Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

Early Christmas present from London there lads. :)

I still think there is much more to come from this team, we're clearly short of a player or two and like a poster pointed out below, SAS and coutinho are still to get a decent run of games together and Allen, sakho and Henderson are really starting to show form.
Lots to look forward to there for the new year.
We shouldn't fear city, in recent games against them we have more than stood our ground so let's hope we smash them to bits as well.

Alright Liverpool fans, we have two days to act as stuck up as Arsenal fans have been all season. We're top!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bit harsh that Zaki
But hope you get a fantastic result boxing day, be a real test but do it there and all will sit up and more than take notice

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Gunner62. Zaki is getting a wee bit carried away there. More like a Manchester United fan. A bit more class would be better.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, that was not nice Zaki but its xmas so bless you lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't want anyone to take notice, we want to go about our business quietly

I wish Arsenal all the best. They are a classy club with a great team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken, you Sir are a gentleman.

Sorry for being mean but I have so many friends that are Arsenal fans and they've been teasing me about being top of the lwague. You guys are good people and well done for being calm about being at the top

Opts joe says: "3 - The last three times Liverpool have been top at Christmas they have failed to win the title (90-91, 96-97, 08-09). Fade."

Not a nice stat to read!

Will history repeat itself or can we do it reds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Maybe another stats that you'll like to read is, for the last 4 seasons the team who was top at christmas went onto win the league.

Of course we can win the league, we'll smash City on boxing day ;)

90/91 - Kenny quit.
96/97 - We made a balls of it despite having the best team.
08/09 - A nothing of a player spawned a spawny goal in a crucial game for United. Here's a fun game, without googling, tell me where Macheda is now? You can't can you?

So it has to be fourth time lucky?

Right?

In all seriousness my brain will probably not accept the possibility that we can win this unless we're top in March. My money's on Man City.

Merry Xmas to all my fellow reds and the eds. have a good one and hopefully we will all be waking up to the best present we could all wish for and seeing us sat on the top of the pile. My question is, just for a bit of fun, if you could swap any Liverpool player from the starting squad against cardiff for any other premierleague player, who would it be? I personally would change Johnson and replace him with Azpilicueta who seems more defensively sound. Also looking to go to my first match at anfield towards the end of the season so any advice on how to get tickets would be very much appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sure Coleman is better than him any player would be hazard for sterling I think he will be good I like sterling but any player would be crazy to turn up a higher class player

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson for aguero.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok then I'll say it. Barkley for Gerrard. Even carragher mentioned them in the same sentence tonight! Don't get me wrong - I would be happy with 4th this season but I WANT 1st for gerrard's sake alone. But we got to look to the future dudes. Peace. Happy yuletide everyone.

Just to say Merry Xmas to all the ED's, posters and readers - stay safe and.

If you have not seen the new Kolo interview - it is a must - what a signing and on a free as well - I think he may be at the club long after his playing days are over

If we do get in the top 4 - what a transfer window we could have next summer - I think it is obvious as good as the squad has been performing this year it is quite thin and to even enter in to the CL we will have to buy - the amount of names we will be linked with will be great fun for us to read and it is going to drive the Ed's mad

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Dec 2013 15:51:10
Just a thought.

How many more goals does Suarez have to score MORE than Aguero for it to be tooo ridiculous for him not to win player of the year?
It seems that the powers that be have been trying not let someone who does not fit their idea of "role Model" to win this prize. he was blatently overlooked last year. What would be regarded as too blatent this year . ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well what chance has he got of winning it lad when his own fans on this site vilified and spewed hatred towards him only a few months ago? Mind you, they have probably turned the other way again and are saying how great he is!

Funny how certain people on here were quick to slag the media about the bad press he received and then turned on him with even more venom than the press. This isn't aimed at you fella because from memory I don't recall you being one of the names who turned on him( could be wrong, I'm sure you will say in reply to my post, )but the others who did, you know who you are and what you are!

Agree0 Disagree0

Waro,

Thought you'd been hibernating, but good to see you've latched on to a post you can sprinkle your own unique festive cheer to.

Whilst you have a point about some posters being fickle (as is always the way), most posters on here criticised Suarez' antics whilst recognising what a technically brilliant player he is. That to me was fair enough given his behaviour. I think most posters recognise he has deserved a second chance and he and the club and reaping the reward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez has a 1.58 goals per game ratio when compared to Aguero's 0.86 goals to game ratio.

Which means Suarez has been 0.72 goals per a game more productive than Aguero has been, on current statistics.

To put that into some perspective, Daniel Sturridge is on a 0.75 goals per game ratio, which is near to identical in the gulf of productivity between Suarez's goals ratio and Aguero's, at present.

Which just says it all, Suarez in 13 games has been producing as much as Aguero and Sturridge have combined. Plus Suarez has a few assists as well.

Ronaldo's goal to game ratio is 1.13 and Diego Costa's is 1.09 Just to give the best ratio's from La Liga and they both take penalties! Suarez is currently the most productive (best at his job) striker in the World!

Agree0 Disagree0

Good to see you back Waro. Your banter is always welcome.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers Chaki, your in a minority of one there I think though mate ( ha ha ), I'm surprised this thread hasn't vanished, they don't normally last more then 10 minutes!

Agree0 Disagree0

It's Christmas Waro! Perhaps that is a reason?

Anyway, welcome back buddy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez has really grown up Waro and has earned back the respect and support of most fans, by buckling down and doing his job to absolute perfection, without whining and cheating like past years. He has surprised me, but full respect to the young man. He is class. I don't find it unreasonable that fans were unhappy with him, nor is it unreasonable that those same fans now cheer and support him. It was all down to Suarez, and he has stepped up and won the fans back the best way possible imo. Merry Christmas everyone.

I think one of our weakest position is RB. Maybe I'm a bit biased been Irish but I think Coleman is a great player. Now I'm not asking are Liverpool interested. Just wondering what you think of him and how you rate him.

Hey Eds.

Merry Christmas to you all.

How much does a prospective player value a teams league position when considering a move to the club?

The reason I ask is that I wonder if players like Salah will consider Liverpool's possibility of Champions league Football next season before a move in comparison to other clubs that may have shown interest that may not be able to offer the same prospect?

Is it a big consideration or does it generally just come down to the money being offered in the contract for most players?

Will our current position in the league make us more attractive to players during the upcoming window?

I'm just interested to find out what is normally important to the players upon making the decision to move.

Thanks in advance Eds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Players will want to be playing in the CL so it will be a consideration.}

23 Dec 2013 05:30:42
Hey eds, just wondering if you had any insight as to Jack Robinson's future after his loan spell? There is talk about purchasing a left back (not to mention Enrique and Flanno's good form), but where would that leave Robinson?

I suppose he could go out on loan again, but that would be his 3rd in a row. Flanno is the same age I believe, but he's forced himself into the first team. I haven't really seen Robinson play this season and didn't know how his progress was coming along.

Happy holidays to all!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You will need to wait until Ed001 is around - so save the question RedRum.}

Robinson looked promising when he first broke in, but looked poor later. However, he is doing a good job on loan, may be BR would give him one more year as understudy before deciding whether to sell or make him first team player.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Dec 2013 14:37:32
Hi all.

Regarding the January Transfer window. I feel BR should rather go for loans or buy under 21 yr old players than try to secure any so called "big signings" for Starting places in the team
The reason for this is that the amount of "world class" players willing to make a transfer to us is not as many as there would be in the summer after we have Champions League qualification.
So instead of blowing a huge amount on a 3 or 4 star player in January rather hold off and sign a 5 star player at the same price in the summer.
Unless we can find top top player players in jan to buy, we should not waste money and settle for less quality. Rather invest in a bit of depth that can pull us through the season so we have a huge pot to spend then.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - That's not going to happen. Sorry.}

Whats not going to happen?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The loans.}

Adding to what Ed has said, a club can only have 2 players on loan. We have cissokho and Moses, unless either of them is sent back, we cannot have any more loan players unless it is a loan to buy.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Dec 2013 14:02:24
Afternoon eds just something on the Fox website has made me laugh thought I'd share it with you all Pedro of Barcelona papers are saying his buy out clause is £125 mil so does that mean Suarez must be worth £250 on a buy out clause. People argue he is only worth £60 mil max but on the form he is in he is the best player in the world by far just glad he has signed message to the big guns now leave Suarez alone or pay a whopping fee for him ent insult the lfc as we're no mugs merry Christmas to all toughness and reds have a good 1 people

Hi everyone, goodwill to all my fellow reds

If we get decent results against city and chelsea, should Gerrard sit on the bench when fit or automatically be selected. It's giving me grief, Stevie G is a king among footballers and men. I don't envy BR the decision.

Happy Holidays, and true goodwill to all of us, whatever color/team/creed or country we are from. and also m not that any of us needs reminding. Remember the 96. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gerrard should only play when one of ll ja or jh get injured. Then it's down to him to cement a place. Just as skrtle has done, as well as Allen and sterling.

Agree0 Disagree0

Benny,
Injuries? Surely must, for example, day form, or Melwood progress, or opposition matter? So far, I think Mr Rodgers show some skill in selecting the match day team and squad. As opposed to having players firmly unchallenged in their position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stick Gerrard at right back, and leave Allen & Henderson in the middle. Johnson plays better on the left so let him fight it out with Flannagan. Merry Crimbo!

Camborne, Cornwall

Gerrard right back randon!?!?!?

The only time Gerrard should be on the bench is against Spurs, Southampton, Hull, West Brom and Arsenal as we need dynamic players in the team for those games.

Hi Ed,
Hope your well.

Just wondering how much you believe each of these players would cost, please put a cost next to each one.

I think we should just go out and get all of these players personally if we can. It would strengthen and deepen the team massively:

I also think we need to start looking at which players make lives hell for defenders and players in general games. Costa, Cabaye mata, Salah are perfect examples of this and in my opinion these are the players we should be bringing in if we can obviously.

Salah:
Another skilful playmaker, winger.

Xabi Alonso:
Awesome defensive midfielder.

Mata:
Awesome attacking midfielder, play mAker and play play on the wing.

Cabaye:
Awesome box to box midfielder, never stops amazing control and can score and create great goals.
Awesome
Ashley Cole: FREE
Experienced left back.
Diego Costa:
We should just bite the bullet and pay what they want for this man just imagine him playing with Suarez. The 2 deadliest strikers about right now. He looks horrible to play against which is perfect.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't want to get in to the costs but Salah is a player that Liverpool can afford and will be looking to do a deal for.}

Expectations:

Few weeks ago I posted time to step up! and Henderson, Allen, Lucas & Sterling who I had picked out specifically as my biggest concerns but wow they have delivered.
Without Stevie we have more fluidity and play at a higher tempo, Lucas and Henderson are not being overworked chasing back and have more defined roles. I am not bagging Stevie he is still one of the best players in the EPL but clearly without him we are currently playing with much more creativity.

Our current injuries have been more of a blessing than a hinderance enabling Flanno and Allen to shine, on current performance only Sturridge would be put back in to the squad. My point is that at times out bench has looked pretty thin and only our first team regulars can mount any serious threat for top 4 but now that our fringe players have had time to shine we certainly have more depth than first thought.

Will we win the league? probably not as BR has stated MC have more depth and deeper pockets as do Chelsea but better players and more money does not guarantee success. On current form I believe we could beat anyone in the EPL, as with all fans at the start of the campaign I would settle for top 4 but their is no harm in dreaming of winning the league.

What will we achieve over the next few games? will we win against MC and Chelsea, I don't know but we are certainly in better form and have more team solidarity now than at any time in the last few seasons.

I have always been a fan of BR and believe as performance shows we are moving in the right direction, were by far not the finished article but were at last moving in the right direction. If we add players of the quality of Sturridge and Countinho like we did last January you maybe can start dreaming of the league! the next couple of games will not decide the season we are only half way through, but if we come out of the festive season with the upper hand we will be ideally placed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gday Jules, good to find an Australian who does not want to talk Cricket these days. I'm also dreaming of winning the premier league, will be one hell of a party in Liverpool the day they parade that cup through the streets. But for the moment there's only 8 points between 1st and 8th place and enough games to turn everything upside down. I happy for now Liverpool are marching forward.

Eds, how much attention is paid by referees to replays of games? I'm asking as Skrtel's penchant for shirt swapping is drawing a fair bit of attention. Would Mike Riley or someone be pointing out issues for refs to watch out for? Or is this just one of many things that goes on week in week out and refs are too busy just trying to keep up? That said, I'd punt on Sakho's aggression paired with Agger's ball ability for City, though can see why BR would stick with Skrtel's current form.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They try and go in to games with an open mind. However pushing and pulling shirts in the penalty area is an area clubs are warned about when they are briefed by referees every few months.}

Skirtle's shirt tugging in the penalty area was very concerning but even more worrying for me was that even with this he was still second to the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be better if he concentrates more on winning the header/clearing the ball. That is another way of defending which Sakho does well.

Banter please Ed,

Evening Gents,
Ok, I have had enough about me praising Suarez, you can bloody keep him(smiles).

Another of your boys who has really impressed me is Courtinho. When we turned you over at the Emirates we pretty much dominated the first half but when he came on in the 2nd half, wow, what a difference.

Very very good player IMO. Brilliant passer of the ball and i'm going to assume Suarez must love playing in front of him?

Any chance of him coming to Arsenal? lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This is how I remember . we started better than you and the goal was against the run of play

Agree0 Disagree0

We got a lesson in football in that game in Emerites, I think that's been the turning point in our current form. Now we are moving the ball much quicker in midfield and from last third to final third since that game. What would you say to a rematch?

Agree0 Disagree0

You have Ozil and Carzorla who play in the roles that Coutinho plays at Liverpool(LW and CAM to put it in FIFA terms). So why would you want to sacrifice one of them in order to have Coutinho? Alright Coutinho's got age on his side, but Ozil and Carzorla are top play makers.

Perhaps you should concentrate on your own players, rather than drooling over others.
I can understand you drooling over strikers though, Giroud on his own is not enough, even if he is performing well.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Perhaps you should concenrate on your own players"? Wow, chill out HSF.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I know Puzzled, I posted last week what a wonderful player Suarez is and HSF threw his toys out of the pram and said "why are Arsenal supporters coming onto our site and mentioning our players".
HSF, chill buddy, do you not know what banter is? there's nothing wrong with me coming on here and praising your players, its not as if i'm saying stupid things about your boys is it?
I find all the Liverpool posters on here fair and very level headed. You on the other hand are very much full of yourself and think that Liverpool are way way ahead of Arsenal. Sorry my friend, but there's very little difference between Liverpool and Arsenal, the only obvious difference is you have the best striker in world football, apart from that, there's not a lot in it.

Apologies if this post offends any of you other Liverpool supporters, that's not my intention, this is just directed at HSF.
Mate, grow up and look up the word banter.

Hoping for an Arsenal win tomorrow. Their inevitable collapse in the later half of the season can wait a week to start.

Chelsea seem more likely to sustain a good run over the course of a season, so a gap between them and us would be nice.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id rather be top of the league on christmas morning and am hoping its a draw. Would take Everton out of the top 4 too.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with chiefscout too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal have been poor in the first half and great in the second half of the season the past few seasons. So, idk what this inevitable collapse is.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are Liverpool fc we should look upwards not downwards let the chavs beat the gunners or a draw will do

Agree0 Disagree0

Id take a draw. we would still be top and then beat chelsea :)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think having Everton in the top 4 would be good for Liverpool. Would add a bit more spice to it and help revive the rivalry between the two clubs. Let's be honest, it has gone kinda stale recently and seems to have faded a little with the exception of the last game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not quite sure what lfc vs efc games youve been watching in recent seasons hsf. The ones I've been watching have been some of the best games of the season. Both teams always step up a level or two and the intensity has been there in plenty of recent games
