Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

23 Dec 2011 23:39:11
So the dogger and woman beater and the ex-alcoholic who couldn't even give it up to prolong his career at Old Trafford, but conveniently spoke up in favour of Atkinson who said something much more racist than Suarez, have come out of the woodwork to hoist their self righteous opinions on the rest of us. Both afforded their platform by the odious Talksport.

Even though he is employed by the radio station, Collymore calls in at every opportunity as he seems to think he is the definitive voice on every subject. What makes that total under achiever as a player think he is the expert on everything under the Sun?
I often wondered why he refused to make the move from the Midlands to Liverpool but now I think I know - it was obviously too far from Cannock Chase.

I don't condone anyone having a go at him on the grounds of his race, as we should be better than that. I have no qualms about having a go at him on the grounds that he is an idiot.

As for McGrath, we had forgotten all about you. Full marks on spotting the chance to get your name back in the public eye, but that's about all!

redmersey

As much as a tool Collymore is, the abuse was disgusting and way over the top. What makes these people think its ok to write things like that is beyond me. Football 'fans' need to take a step back at times and think before they act. Just look through recent years there was the Rooney situation with threats to him and his family, same with Gerrard when Chelsea came calling and then there was Beckham after the world cup, its embarrassing.

Its supposed to be the season of good will lol, so Merry Christmas.

always a red

Grow Up. As it stands Suarez is guilty on the basis he has used a word without understanding the clarification. That is all we know.

I love Kenny Dalglish but he is clearly the PR mouth piece for LFC as the moment but he is wrong. Our reputation is clearly getting battered. We should have simply said dissapointed with judgement and would have liked to see the evidence at the same time/ No more comment until that arrives

If we dont like listening to Stan Collymore turned it off but racial abuse on twitter is a disgrace.

Bitterness oozing outa every pore

Who gives a rat's behind about reputation? You think that matters in today's football world? When Ryan Giggs' pictures were splashed out in the media not too long ago about his sordid affairs, did that batter manU's reputation? NO!

These thiongs get forgotten further down the rood and things return to business as usual.
So should we worry about our reputation or stick together to battle this till the end? I say we show the entire nation and the world how unites this club is behind any of their own. United do it all the time.

Merry Christmas everyone, a special mention to our armed forces, those who are away from loved ones and those who have lost loved ones. And my thoughts are with Brad Jones and family also. Football is just football, all the best.

KNEE JERK

Disagree? Smart one low life.

Surprised to see Johnson being linked with a move away. Eds is there a particular reason why we are looking to sell him? {Ed001's Note - I have said repeatedly, please just read through rather than asking me a question I have answered numerous times already today.}

My guess would be that Kelly is almost as good but is young and needs to grow to reach his potential.

Johnson could go (my guess) around 15m to a team like Chelsea (boswinga is fair crap). While we have a replacement just as good in Kelly and back up in flanno -McMenemy

"Breaking news... The FA have given Andy Carroll an 8 game run in the team.....Liverpool are likely to appeal"

Fingers crossed big Andy, comes through this unscathed.

Hello ed's I read a previous post asking about the situation on glen johnson, this is the first I've heard of it, personally I think he doesn't fit in with our team attacking he is brilliant but going backwards he is hopeless, if he were to part ways with us do you think martin kelly will take his place or do you know if we are looking to bring someone in? {Ed001's Note - I think Kelly would be the answer if he stays fit, but we are looking to bring in a right back.}

23 Dec 2011 23:10:34
Sir Bob i remember you putting how vile Chelsea fans are on the chelsea page! Your FANS are a disgrace the abuse Stan Collymore got from Liverpool fans for the Suarez debacle is disgusting,hundreds of your fans telling him to Hang himself,How they will do vile things to his mom.And this is an ex player of yours your fans are a disgrace.

A minority of fans mate, like a minority of Man u fans turned up at Rooney's house were his wife and child live! And threatend him with god knows what if he signed for city. Anyone who acts in such a way is a vile human, but who are you to make such a general statement. All the best.

KNEE JERK

Dont tar ALL Liverpool fans with the same brush, this is a minority of people on Twitter... If these so called fans are saying these things they are not a part of Liverpool football club as far as i am concerned, they are not wanted by our club, they are a disgrace... If they can't support Suarez or the club in the correct manner dont do it at all, you people are only making the club look bad

Just a quick word on the recent signing jordan ibe. I am fortunate to have played in a national cup semi final for my district this year in may against jordan ibe and i can what an immense prospect he is for the future. Mark my words he will be a rising star, he has great strength, speed, power and awarness and is a real presense on the pitch. Also like to mention that we did beat his side and it went to penalties and he was the only one to miss. None the less he is a great talent.
Please post would be great if i could see it on the rumours page.

Yea man..I saved his penalty.

23 Dec 2011 22:38:00
Heyy Eds and Macca.

As it stands, who is the most likely notable striker to be signed in January? We lack goals even with Suarez there.

23 Dec 2011 22:22:16

Breaking News:

The FA have handed Andy Carroll an eight-game "run" in the Liverpool first-team.
The club's lawyers have confirmed Liverpool are set to appeal and have labelled it as another conspiracy by Sir Alex Ferguson

Seriously? Someone somewhere found this funny and decided to post it... just amazing...

Thats not a great joke really is it

Hilarious - can't believe how close to the truth it is re the scouse conspiracy theorists

It is pretty funny tbh. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

How?

How is it remotely funny?

this media witch hunt against Luis nd i mean just the media. not the FA or Evra or Fergie or somebody else.
Just the media.
Only in the latter part of the season was Luis applauded for the brilliance of his game. Since the start of this season, its been negative and more negative.
Him being called a diver. Nd then everybody booing him at every single stadia in the league. That's kinda harsh on a person adjusting to a new life in a completely alien country. If i were in his place i would be considering my options right now.
He left Ajax because maybe he just wanted a change. But that biting incident and the subsequent press frenzy might have played some role in his decision.
Let's face it, he doesn't love the club as much as he would in a few year's time. A move to spain where he speaks the language of the country and a a warmer climate would surely be appealing to him right now.
I hope the club do what they can in their power to keep hold of the kid as he has been the only player with some imagination to play for LFC in a long long time.
I surely don't wanna see him go.

S.G.L.

Ive only just got over torres going dont wanna lose suarez now,
we love you luis we do,ynwa

If everybody is booing him in every stadium, do you really think it is in the best interests of either Luis or LFC that he continue playing here? Would you?

23 Dec 2011 21:48:25
ed if the likes of soldado,sissoko,ozil and de jong came available all in january and wanted to come to us could we afford them.DORSET RED {Ed001's Note - I doubt the funds would be available for all of those, unless we sold someone.}

Would you like to see those players in either jan or summer then ed?they are what we need 3 young talents and a proven goalscorer.DORSET RED {Ed001's Note - I would love those players.}

23 Dec 2011 21:44:44
Hi Ed I attempted to post re the written publication of the Suarez verdict from the FA. Did it not get through as I don't think there was anything offensive in my post? Regards ALB. {Ed001's Note - I have no idea, I didn't see the post.}

Hi Ed, If liverpool meed a precedent to help with an appeal..John Mackie Reading 2002.... Bobbinred

Ok cheers Ed, must be the mobile interface. I basically raised the concern that it seems to be taking far to long for the FA to send the written document detailing why a guilty verdict was returned. I'm wondering if they are trying to cover up the real inadequacies of their verdict by using some legal language to prevent any chance of a fair appeal given the rhetoric already issued from LFC in response.
I also think a legal challenge by LFC must be launched should, as anticipated, the FA dismiss an appeal.
Clearly if they charge and ban Evra for the same number of games then we would feel a consistent approach had been applied but Evra seems to have no defense for his admitted racial abuse of Suarez, at least Luis cited cultural differences and naively maybe claimed ignorance as an excuse, it appears Evra admitted the offensive cultural/racist abuse and offered no mitigating circumstances yet still no sign of a charge for him. Hypocrisy and corruption seems rife at the FA and they have the audacity to judge Blatter and FIFA, embarrassing & shameful. All the best to you and all the Eds, ALB - JFT96&LS {Ed001's Note - it always takes ages for a full written report to come out, I doubt it will be released before Xmas.}

23 Dec 2011 21:43:30
Hi eds i am wishing you all a very merry christmas. This is a cracking website and its great to listen to your opinions and info. I hope you guys think its worth while. Thanks.

As Fegurson and the FA know mud sticks and although Luis was not found guilty of racism, the FA statement is carefully worded and states Luis is not racist, the usual suspects and friends of AF are all over the media adding to the perception that he has been found guilty of racism. Luis should take legal action against anyone who connects him with racism in anyway. That'd soon shut them up because bullies hate it when the victim fights back

I think people are being paranoid what has any of it got to do with Sir Alex ? whats your view Ed ?

JEZ YNWA {Ed001's Note - well he did drag Evra to the office to make a complaint.}

And rightly so Ed if he is guilty he should be punished. Dont you agreee Ed?

JEZ YNWA {Ed001's Note - but only if Evra is also punished for an offence which is actually worse. You can't punish one and allow the same offence to go unpunished in the exact same incident.}

I totally agree if its true but I feel we should wait for the FA to release the written documents before making judgements. After all we dont know what evidence there is or there isnt. If you know what I mean Ed?

JEZ YNWA {Ed001's Note - actually we already know that Evra used a racial slur, he states so in his evidence. We also know Suarez admitted using a word that we are all apparently supposed to be offended by. The only difference seems to be that Evra made a complaint, while Suarez just got on with things.}

Hey ed im just wondering why Madrid are selling Ozil?

Making way for a big name or something?

They are indeed making way for a big name, I heard they're signing Julio Rodrigues Fernando Dos Nascimento Hernandes Da Silva Stevenson.

23 Dec 2011 20:43:19
I'm sort of on a footy downer at the mo, but have started to think I need to remember that we are in a major rebuild. We've got new and young players and it took City a few years to get back in the top flight even with players like Tevez in the team. The key is to keep buying, on the whole, quality with a hope that you unearth a few diamonds, good management and coaching with a hope that some don't leave through impatience.

I say on the whole because you never know what is going to happen when you sign a player... every team experiences this.

Positive posting.. I hope it rubs off on some of the tards on here!

hi eds,a very merry xmas and a happy new yr to all you eds and fellow reds,
having read the abuse stan collymore has recieved on twitter i am disgusted no man should have to put up with that especially an ex player,this is just going to alianate lfc,i know we all love luis and will back him to the hilt,and im sure if they had the isps of those racist callers im sure none would come from liverpool,
lets all back luis just keep the slurs out of it,
not in my name,jimmybosun ynwa, {Ed002's Note - The reality remains a need to step back, which we all need. to do.}

I agree it is harsh but Stan has hardly been complimentary of Liverpool. He is still very bitter.

23 Dec 2011 19:58:49
Any updates on what's going on with Rory Donnelly?

23 dec 2011 19:53:58
i would like to see the follwing happen in the january transfer window:
part exchange kuyt + cash for kevin strootman and wijnaldum.
and defo a new striker bt im spoiled for choice if anyone has any realistic idea reply lol

achilles.

KUYT: Aint quick,cant dribble,cant take on a player and cant finish o n cant pass a easy ball not to mention his decision makin CRAP!!

Only compliment i can give dirk is that he always gives 100% n hes actually a decent guy but you cant play for a team like liverpool with jus them qualities.

ACHILLES.

When up front with a strike partner He actually send players through and links up well with especially with Luis and Maxi. On the right all he is good for is steming the oppostions flow.

The lowest any top-flight side has been at Christmas and still gone onto win the title is 12th- Liverpool 1981-82.

23 Dec 2011 19:13:45
we need to get lukas podolski and adam johnson in january.

They would be my two choices if we are to sign players!

Merry Christmas fellow Reds and Eds, have a good one. Remember never ever drink and drive, stay safe.

Cheers

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - not a problem for me, I don't drink, nor do I drive.}

If you do take up one take up drinking at least your misses can drive you home. Merry christmas

Danny

Ed, You must be 17 then fella, or poor behind the wheel, or a bloody cyclist! Bet you voted for Cavandish!

Have a good Xmas.

Dirks Engine Room {Ed001's Note - no mate, just had a falling out with the DVLA because they kept cutting the top off my signature, then, after 3 years of arguing with them, they decided to lose my details and told me I hadn't passed my test. So I gave up on driving as I would have to take my tests all over again.}

Ed, and you stopped fighting DVLA! Disheartening I can imagine but keep at them. The place you passed your test should have records.... If not, then old driving license. This is shocking!

Dirks Engine Room

I read that drinking was bad for you.....so I gave up reading.
Merry Christmas to the Eds and the supporters

Two questions: Any chance of an interest in Gary Hooper of Celtic and is he good enough for us?

23 Dec 2011 18:36:39
As Fegurson and the FA know mud sticks and although Luis was not found guilty of racism, the FA statement is carefully worded and states Luis is not racist, the usual suspects and friends of AF are all over the media adding to the perception that he has been found guilty of racism. Luis should take legal action against anyone who connects him with racism in anyway. That'd soon shut them up because bullies hate it when the victim fights back.

Good post my unnamed friend, totally agree

Tel 1949

People need to be aware that the media have made a distinction (carefully) and have stated that what he said is a racist comment (as per FA statement) nobody is saying that Luis is racist, just that his comment was.

Think we need to leave this issue alone now. Move on.

Rewflo

I think as per FA statesmen they creat there won problem they said he is not racist they not found video or player evidence but come up with huge punishment. they shold warning suarez of ignorance in uk law and with a light punishment 3/4 match ban.

Most of the media I have listened to/read have stated that Luis "racially abused" Evra. Especially D**khead Durham from talkshuyt, LFC fans went on air and explained to him the real charge but he is to busy with his pantomime show to care how it affects people.. I had to turn off (again) because he boils my blood sometimes...

Myk

Rewflo Thank you! This is the argument I've been having with all my work mates, the sooner we move on the sooner all this will go away, as long as we keep biting they will keep on, let's start doing the talking on the pitch! No pun intended!

So wat are the chances of us beating everyone to the signing of xerdan shaquiri(spelling)in january ed?

ACHILLES. {Ed001's Note - unlikely, there are a number of clubs ahead of us in the running.}

How would that change if we secured champs league footy ed? I doubt that Shaquiri will be available until summer anyway and we might be in that position then. Would we be on even footing with the other clubs?

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - hard to say, it really depends on his viewing of the clubs vying for his signature. Both Manchester clubs are very interested in him, for instance, we don't pay anything like the wages either of those would happily offer him.}

Lol he was always MOTD fever according to ed002! Then when clubs get interested the fever subsides because he is in demand and must possess some quality. {Ed001's Note - no, she says MOTD fever because people suddenly start asking about him after seeing him have one good game. Nothing to do with whether or not he is a good player.}

23 Dec 2011 18:20:49
hi eds, can i just ask why we're willing to sell johnson? he's one of the best rb's in the league, and he's still only 27. would be ludicrous to sell him. {Ed001's Note - for one he can't defend. For two he is on extremely high wages, roughly 3 times Adam's wage. For three, I am told he has a must play if fit clause in his contract, which makes it difficult for Kenny if he is off form.}

Forfar 5 East Fife 4..?
The Real KB

What are the odds of selling him ed considering his wages and also the fact he would likely demand the same clause in his contract when negotiating with new teams?

Is there anyone interested?

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - there are always clubs interested, though his wages do put off a lot of clubs, I can see him ending up abroad. I doubt he would find anyone else silly enough to put a clause like that in his contract though. But I do think he will go in the summer, Spurs would have been the most likely until Walker emerged, Harry rates Johnson very highly.}

I would rather let jono go and let martin kelly have his place,jimmybosun,

23 Dec 2011 18:19:36
hey ed's great work. do you know anything what torres is talking about "the truth"? is there really anything about FSG? thanks {Ed001's Note - there is nothing much in it, as was talked about yesterday, it is just a pitiful whine from him to justify what happened.}

23 Dec 2011 18:55:03
I watched the news last night and saw the abuse John Terry got at White Hart Lane.
I have to say the guy is very strong mentally, to face that down and play his game.
However, my main point is that I sincerely hope that Luis Suarez does not get that same level of abuse too.
I have had a go at him on here for causing the club trouble. But what is done is done. It was a mistake and there is no one who can say they don't foul up.
My fear is that if Suarez gets a very bad reception at away grounds he might just pack it in with England altogether.
The Real KB

Receiving abuse from away fans is what footballs all about if he can't handle that then he might aswell retire.

Tom.

23 Dec 2011 18:19:36
Can we encourage people on here to stop abusing journalists, ex platters or opinion formers as we can lose the argument which when is set out in logic with coherence and calling when people are using double standards or hypocrisy - such as McGrath who defended Atkinson - then the likelihood of a successful appeal will increase. Unfortunately at moment The FA are in a strong position as they are undeserved getting support which we are compounding

23 Dec 2011 18:13:51
hi eds,

not much of a rumour just wondering why you are saying it is likely johnson will leave?

cheers
j {Ed001's Note - because his wages are extremely high and, I am told, he has a must play at right back if fit clause in his contract. The fact that we have been seriously looking at right backs made me look into the reasons why, and that is what I have been informed is the reasoning. The club are looking to sell him in the summer, in the hope he will up his value with a good tournament for England.}

Inkoom no one else, young, fast, attacking, defending. like enrique just take away the powerhouse part.

23 Dec 2011 18:08:39
Alright ed 001 Interesting comment you made on ozil their do you think we could actually sign him maybe giving real first refusal on suarez pushing us to the top of the queue feel he would be just what we need myself

Cheers
Kopman {Ed001's Note - I would love him to sign, he works extremely hard and is excellent on the ball as well, but I would think it would be difficult without Champions League football. It is likely he will leave in the summer, if not in January, so maybe we will be better placed then to get him.}

I havent heard anything inside the Madrid hierarchy about Oezil. Which is strange because everybody knows information out of madrid is usually easy to come by. Nothing regarding this.

From a personal standpoint I think that he would be willing to come and while I think Champs league will influence him dont think it would be a deal breaker if we couldnt offer it. I think first team place is more important to Oezil. His wages are quite high at madrid which may be a sticking point, but I think for a fairly modest 20-24m madrid would be willing to deal.

I'll keep checking with my source at Real and if I hear anything further I'll post it up.

Rewflo

hi ed,
anychance of a return for seb leto or cheyrou, both doing well

Why would you want them back? there were awful. Don't want to bring the crap back.

Luis Suarez has been announced as the winner of the Sky 2011 Player poll

www.skysports.com/tv_show/story/0,20144,12384_7393506_12384,00.html

Unbelievable that that sky had luis ahead in the poll then tried to carry it on till 7.30am so nani won it,but had to backtrack till midnight when luis won it,
they really dont want a lfc player to win it,

23 Dec 2011 17:15:14
Not posted before and this isn't a rumour, but a though. Cahill looks like he is on his way to Chelsea, whats the chances of loaning Danny Wilson to Bolton, would make all round sense, he gets good prem experience at CB and Bolton get a short term replacement as buying in January would be tricky for them.

Chelsea need him as terry looks 10 match for sure.

Bolton bought David Wheater in the Summer, he was bought as the Cahill replacement way back then as the ed has said many times.

Bolton also have Knight, Boyata, Wheater and I am sure Coyle is looking for a strong experienced centre back because young and for the future isn't working for them.

However I believe there is a chance of the Chelsea-Cahill deal them getting Mceachran in the deal on loan and they are also looking at Macheda, Diouf, Sterling and Chemberlain. This shows that the are clearly looking at frontmen and attackers. Unsure on this but Chelsea may also include Lukaku in the deal on loan again.

23 Dec 2011 16:54:08
British player? Foreign Players? Come on guys, we did draw with Wigan but should've won by a mile, guys! Be fair, we are playing better than we've done for a few years. And we have Carroll to come in although I wanted him earlier than the 85th minute (appearance bonus,hey!) So, don't despair, even with Suarez and with what we're adding to the squad we'll be ok.

23 Dec 2011 16:31:45
I would like to say that I am embarrassed and ashamed at some of the abuse that Stan Collymore and Patrice Evra has been getting from some Liverpool 'fans'. Some of the words posted on Stan's twitter account is truly disgusting and I hope these people never set foot in Anfield again in their lives.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Somebody that batters women can never recieve enough abuse!!

Collymore wants to keep his thoughts to himself he is only well informed on dogging and assaulting women.As for Evra his area of expertise seems to be carrying a chip on his shoulder and manufacturing tales of racist abuse.

These clowns should shut up and consider why they think they have lived such saintly lives.

Derek

People like Collymore should not be criticising other players actions when he has done a lot worse than utter ambiguous comments. He should accept criticism of his own actions if he's going to throw stones in glass houses.

23 Dec 2011 16:26:30
Not a user of twitter myself but a friend of mine told me to check out Tony Barrett's account or page or whatever you call the bloody thing lol,

Anyone in any doubt that the Suarez fallout is now out of control need only look at the spat between Paul McGrath & Glen Johnson. Not good.

Someone needs to defuse the situation because it's certainly not healthy right now.

He's absolutely right i personally blame the media what they have written on the subject is a complete lie as usual, for instance both the FA and Evra have said Suarez is not a racist yet the morning after the verdict back page of the mirror (i think it was the mirror) a picture of Luis and racist in big block capitals.

The situation has escalated way out of hand maybe the FA could have been clearer with their statement, then again it seems no one has bothered to read it anyway.
Far to many people, including many on here have chipped in with their opinions without looking at the facts.
Apparently Adrian Durham has waded in with his big mouth talking about Johnson, nice to see Glen give him some stick back, Hope Carra give him a call again, now that would be worth listening too.
Unfortunately this is going to get even uglier before it ends.

always a red

Anybody else spot this on the Sky Spurs website:

"Liverpool fans will be pleased to hear that Luis Suarez topped the poll at midnight on Thursday night when voting was due to close.

Due to an error the poll remained open until 7.30am and in these hours a surge of votes came in for Manchester United winger Nani, which saw him overtake the Liverpool striker.
But as you'll see when you tune in to Goals on Sunday, we have recognised Suarez as the winner of the poll as he was top at midnight when the vote was due to close.

We'll also make it clear that Nani had overtaken him by the time the poll was taken down."

What are your thoughts Ed's & Reds?

Stedz 11 {Ed001's Note - I don't find these polls of any interest personally, they are far too easy to fix.}

Its a trics of sky sports . suarez win it but they want to change it to other person and find out liverpool fan all over the world protest it so they sty with suarez.

hi ed, have you heard anything about the new stadium? {Ed001's Note - nothing new yet. The best thing to do with that is just wait for the official announcement, the club have been fully investigating every option, so no one can be entirely sure which way they will finally go for certain.}

23 Dec 2011 16:17:16
is there any chances for suso, sterlng, morgan and coady play in first team next year?

Coady may be given a chance this year in the first team or on loan. But I don't think that the others would make it this year. Hope, they'd make it soon for LFC. YNWA

Suso for me he is 19. and he is master in cross my God like a young David Beckham may be Carroll will like it.

Any truth to the rumors that we're watching Brighton's Shamir Goodwin? I doubt Ed002 will be interested because he's pretty young, but does anyone have any information on whether we are scouting him?

In addition, are we interested in Hooper or Jelavic?

I think Hooper would be an ideal player for us, but I didn't think he was too interested in leaving Celtic.

Jelavic would be good too, but he seems similar to Carroll; I'm not sure how much he would add to what we already have.

Any updates on Donnelly? It sounds like he wants to move to Swansea for playing time. I figured he would have announced his decision by this time.

Thanks!

I dont one to see liverpool go for england players...! They acts alot, no performance,always full with dramas...! Only few england born players are good ... most of them out!! Hope someone from Spain , Uruguay netherland French or wherever it is...! But not british players anymore please.....

Fz

You are right. If a player has a fancy sounding surname he is better and guaranteed being class in the epl.

Chuck Norris

Mascherno and Xabi alonso here . ha ha

fz

Don't forget: Babel, Cheyrou (the next Zidane), Voronin, Dossena, Le Tallec, Xavier, Biscan, Smicer, Riera off the top of my head. All brilliant players that would have got us top 4 hey? A fancy name and doing well in a weaker league doesn't guarantee success. I do hate the over paying for local lads though.

Chuck Norris

Tell me one British player who was brilliant that we bought in the last 10 years. Don't say Stevie Carra Owen Fowler etc. because we didn't buy any of them

Heskey Lol

Gary mac
The Real KB

Adam and those British players are good and they still played for us and what about Steve mcmanhon

Ah yes, Bruno Cheyrou. The next Zindane, & the funniest thing is that we beleived it. Those pesky newspaper guys, or was it Houllier that bigged him up? A lot to answer for.

The Irish Rover

Dossena have so many match for napoli last year. and they are in CL football. Smicer is better then any midfielder we have now. Riera done well too just his temure with rafa not work for him and by the way did any of them cost £20m hell no. u can't compare with £8m player to £20m player.

Dossena = carp
Smicer = avg
Riera = carp

Where are the prices you referring to? How much would an overhyped spanish winger from a mid-table la liga club like Riera cost now? 15-20m? So why complain about Downing's price for example. Henderson 16m, J. Martinez 35m... Is he twice as good as Hendo?

Muniain 40m? Lmfao

Ha he's got you on Gary mac. He was absolutely fantastic and even at 36 was one of our best midfielders by far when we signed him. Outstanding player.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - he was worth buying for that goal in the Derby alone! I loved Gary Mac, he was an outstanding player, we could have done with him years before we bought him.}

I think saying Smicer was average is a bit harsh, always liked the guy even before the miracle of Istanbul.

Come on lads lets be realistic here, we are 6th in the premierleague just drew with wigan lets be realistic about our targets, we are not going to persuade these top players to join us. We are going to struggle to get champions league footy. Lets go for proven premier league players come on lads. Id be happy with S.Fletcher of wolverhampton. Think hes brill. Victor Moses of Wigan. I even like diame of wigan think hes a good player. We dont need to go for these big world class footballers lads, we just need some good players to increase them depth of the squad.

We are LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB not a middle table, lets just settle with ok kinda club.....If you would be happy with Steven Fletcher then you my friend need to watch a football game once in a while and figure out that the world class players are going to be the one's that take us up the table

Suarez07

Fletcher, only 24 and has been impressive for some time now.

I also recall Diame (also only 24) destroying our Masch-Alonso-Gerrard midfield singlehandedly in the past - he was just a kid then! He looks quality for sure and has for some time now, he could be a fine signing. Very shrewd, i'd be delighted.

Not sure on Moses yet though, seems raw.... has a touch of the walcotts to him. Not in a good way either, but in a rushed, headless chicken sort of a way.

Suarez07 - Go watch some football. Even some Liverpool games would have shown you the potential some of those players have, outplaying their 'world class' counterparts, who clearly have better stats on FIFA, but thats not much use in real life.

A real match. Then you'd see what these guys can do. Really.

You're the type that would have rejected the suggestion of buying Diarra from Portsmouth a few years back, citing the need for a big star - but now the same person is at Real Madrid (and the FIFA stats are bumped up) he's suddenly a 'great player' as far as you are concerned, and you would clamour to sign him.

'Cos he has a different shirt on - clearly he's far better now?! eh!? Not like it's the same guy or anything.

Is it?

Go play FIFA. You wouldn't know a world class player if he kicked you in the face.

23 Dec 2011 13:26:37
hi ed what is your oppinion on gary hooper.
think he could be the poacher we need right now,
I know not technically world class but great
ability to be in the right place at the right time
an financialy viable {Ed007's Note - I have been really impressed with Hooper, he definitely knows where the goal is if the ball falls to him in the box and has great instincts and awareness when it is a scramble for the ball. CFC will struggle to hold onto him but he has said he is happy enough up here, but that will surely change eventually. Money talks and he does deserve to be in the EPL, just not yet please. I think he would be pushing for a place in the England squad if he was playing in the EPL and not up here, especially when you see the strikers that are in the squad. Defoe as an example.}

Grays Athletic, Southend ( Leyton Orient & Hereford on loan) & Scunthorpe. No England honours whatsoever ( u18 u21 etc). Some players find their level. Hooper has found his.

The Irish Rover

Ian wright was a late developer and had no international caps at u18,u21 level,not sure where he started but arsenal got him from palace who are hardly a massive club so i think to dismiss hooper and say he's reached his level is ridiculous,a goalscorer is a goalscorer and considering we wouldn't have to break the bank to get him i think he'd be worth trying.
paul d

You're picking Ian Wright as the exception! Not the norm. I'd be pretty sure if he was any good he would have been signed by now. If he does end up in the Epl it will be a lower team like Everton etc.

The Irish Rover

Hooper is a good player. Maybe change his surname to something Ronaldo'esque and he will be worth 20m?

I would not be a happy man if Gary Hooper was a Liverpool player. He's a decent finisher, but not a particularly good football player in general, and if we're sticking with pass and move for the foreseeable, he just wouldn't fit. And methinks Ed007's penchant for things green and white may have skewed his views, he's definitely not good enough to play international football... even for a middle of the road team like England.

Rugby Parker {Ed001's Note - you missed out his laziness.}

Gary hooper is exactly what we could do with right now fairly cheap eye for a goal i think he would be a great shrewd signing by kenny no heavy price tag fever/pressure just pressure of playing for LFC but im sure he`d shine a shankly-type signing kenny would do wonders with him..JG.. {Ed001's Note - Shanks liked players who were technically adept, which Hooper is not by any stretch of the imagination.}

23 Dec 2011 13:18:23
Ed - A name the has not been mentioned yet is Steven Fletcher. I am surprised we haven't looked at him because I feel that his finishing is massively underrated.

Steve D

Where you been mate he's been mentioned quite alot on here

We have enough mid table players at the club. For a change, why not sign some decent players?

Ed, at the start of the season, John Henry said it would be a disaster if we couldn't get champions league, do you think that he will give Kenny significant funds for players or be done on a player by player basis, if they are required they will be bought like in the summer? Cheers pal

ToonRed {Ed002's Note - There will not be "significant" funds per se but no doubt enough to address the immediate needs. It will be done player by player as before.}

23 Dec 2011 13:15:14
with the recent witch hunt, rumours ahve all been shifted towards a new frontman, and the lucas cover issue now behind us.

I've heard that a Gerro replacement may not be bought in the form of an impressive young Frenchman, but instead an impressive existing squad member is tipped as future no.8 -

Jonjo Shelvey had an incrodible game as his first start for us, and playing in the 4-2-3-1 formation, enabled the 'front four' flowing play that got us so far at the end of last season. At only 19, he still has a lot to learn, but two years worth of game time will get him where he needs to be, and will mean not having to spend £20mil on Sissoko, and will bring back the confidence in Liverpools ability to develop players into world class.

Jonjo is promising but he's no gerrard, stevie in the day was in the top 5 best player's in the world, don't think we will get a replacement.

We need a player like Sissoko in our midfield, our current midfielders are not as good as sissoko!

Steve

Top Five only?

Gerrard was the best and still can be right up there for the next 5 years, maybe not the best anymore but a lot damm better than 99% of what the premiership has to offer!

3 year will be ok if he fit again .

23 Dec 2011 13:06:50
Few people saying that Bent, Hoilett and Tiote would be terrible signings if what Ive heard is true, so lets compare them with the signings of Adam, Carroll and Downing.

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Hoilett Gerrard Tiote Maxi
Bent Suarez

vs

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Downing Gerrard Adam Maxi
Carroll Suarez

Both have the same benches... Doni, Kelly, Coates, Spearing, Henderson, Bellamy, Kuyt

So who would you choose, Ed and everyone else

Tiote and henderson have nothing in common, Tiote should be compared to Lucas/ Carrol is younger than Bent, he offers more potential in terms of phisique/ hoilett would be a useful squad player, but Downing has more class than him; let's hope he'd show it!

All to all - OUR line up.

Drigan

Bent, Hoilett and Tiote are no better than the players Adam, Carroll and Downing, that you are comparing them too. The 6 of them are not good enough to take LFc back to the top.

Paul McGrath has some cheek going on about Glenn Johnson like he of all people have got the moral high ground when it comes to issues of racism. Ed or someone correct me if i'm wrong but didn't the same Paul McGrath defend a certain Ron Atkinson after calling Marcel Desiey a lazy N word. Outrageous coming from him of all people.

my transfers:

I would go for these players out of the premiership. They would add something extra to the club

Séamus Coleman - Wingback attack, its time for everton to deal.

Adam Johnson is struggling to get a place at man city, Forget the new contract. He should be a lfc player.

If he struggles to get into the man city team why do we want him, if we want to beat the best then we need the best. Our transfer policy should be, if they wouldn't get into our competitors team then we shouldn't sign them. simples!

Strange he scores for city everytime he plays... And then is dropped again.

I listened to the BBC World Football programme on the World Service today and I was very moved.

It featured a story on the American Samoa national football tieam.

They're prob the lowest ranked team in the world and once got thrashed 31-0 by Australia.

The programme followf their world cup qualifxing campaign.

The part that moved me was when they got their 1st ever victory- 2-1 vs Tonga. Imagine never having a victory in ur history!

The pure joy and overwhelming emotion of the players was incredible.

That's football at it's purest. No overpaid players with inflated egos, no greedy and manipulative agents, no hypocritical FAs (couldn't resist putting that in, haha), no simulation, play-acting or inciting behaviour.

Sometimes, the beautiful game is most beautiful when at its simplest.

I love this game.

And that's why I love Liverpool.

Players come and go, trophies are won and lost, but the club, the culture, the history and the fans never change.

Teams with rich benefactors can buy all the players and success in the world, but they can never buy the culture and the best supporters in the world that Liverpool have.

does anyone else thing jordan henderson is better in the centre. he isn't that great at tracking back, but will get better. He isnt a winger. too slow to play anywhere else

I think Henderson will develop in to one of the top central midfielders in the Premiership in the next 3 years.

Hendo has come on enormously
this season since a timid start. Next
season I expect him to be even better.
He's defino a central mid player. At the
moment it looks like Adams is doing more the defensive role and Hendo
more forward role in CM. This is why
people are critical of Adam in the last couple of games. Hopefully Adam can
learn the DM role as well as Lucas has.

Wouldn't say hes slow.... our fastest CM at least...

Being a liverpool fan outside of liverpool.

Does anyone else get abuse for wearing the shirt? including you should support our local team. ect ect.

I say:

1. But my local team is not in the english league.
2. You don't live in that town/city, its like 30minute drive. So why do u live here and not next to ur city club

I get constant abuse 4 wearing my shirt proudly,that said,i do live in manchester but if they dont want to support the best club on earth, then its their problem, it certainly aint mine LFC YNWA

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

I get it all the time mate, I live in Wigan and there is sort of an unwritten rule in Wigan I your a fan of the rugby club you don't support the football club and vice versa kind of a rivalry between the 2. So the football fans give me a lot of abuse but they seem to think they are the bigger more important team in Wigan even though the rugby gets more fans and has far more silver ware. Supported Liverpool before I knew Wigan had a football team lol

we don't need a striker, just a right winger or some kind of wingback player.

Does anything think enrique liverpool isnt that attacking

Rafa was right when he went out to get attacking wingbacks. You always learn how to defend, but can't learn to attack.

A good attacking Wingback would change our style of play for the better, most moden attacks come from the wingbacks.

I don't follow this post at all. Both Johnson and Enrique are attacking full backs.

Enrique - best signing of Kennys reign on par with Suarez for 1/4 of the price. He is attacking but him and Downing are not clicking just yet. He has to come inside alot becase downing is the out and out winger. When Maxi plays on the left you see Enrique as more of an attacking fullback.

To sum up. your wrong

I dont think Enrique is attacking his attacking play has been lacking. His assist rate have been poor. His attacking pass rates have been rubbish.

He is a safe pair of hands. No P Evra,

Some divvys on here=Dont need a striker?!you must be in majority of1%.And Enrique aqint attacking=another arnshair moron

Ofcourse he is no Evra, he is Enrique. and personally, i think Enrique is better. incredible defender, and he does start attack sometimes on the left. great signing.

since being moved into the middle jordan henderson is starting to show why we paid big money for him..maybe we could ease gerrard back on the right & he could supply the airiel ammo carroll thrives on

But Carroll cant get more than 5 minutes a game so Gerrard wont be supplying him with any crosses from out wide.

Happy holidays all just wanted to say that I think the new year is going to be fantastic. The transfer window is always a mystery with kk and were only 3pts off 4th and Liverpool almost always have a better second half to the season. Can't wait for the rovers. If lfc are gonna put 4 or 5 past anyone it must be them but I'm also nervouse because of the points we dropped that we shouldn't. I'm sure well hammer them and to put a cherry on top my brother is a rovers fan

Rovers definately have fans instead of supporters, they have showed that very clearly.

Of All the strikers that we have been linked to only Solardo and Gomez excite me thinking of them playing in Red. I think either of them are a possible for Summer but I just don't know about Jan when we need them ! What do you think Ed's {Ed002's Note - Soldado is possibly an option for January with a number of others that have been mentioned such as Luuk De Jong and Kevin Strootman, and perhaps efforts will be made for the likes of Podolski, Barrios or Lewandowski as they are all available. Gomez, no.}

23 Dec 2011 11:28:03
Pav from Spurs would be a good signing. He can play in Prem and scores goals. Seems to have right attitude and I think he would take more chances then our current strikers.

I have to disagree mate, I think Pavlyuchenko is an awful player.

I'm not going to to come out with all these names everybody else is saying because they are so unrealistic and plus I don't know not does anybody apart from kk comolli and henry.

But editors have you heard anything on the grape vine however small , or do you think it's time to blood the youth {Ed002's Note - We have explained what we know in terms of interest in players or not. As for teh youth, perhaps a cameo or two but don't expect to see much of the 16 or 17 years old kids just yet - I do wonder if Adam Morgan will get a little chance at somepoint though.}

Adam Morgan is one of the younger players though isnt he? Just 17 whereas players like Coady, Adorjan, Suso etc I think atleast are 18? {Ed001's Note - but he does seem to be the furthest forward in his physical development, as well as technical, and so most likely to get a chance.}

Silva and suso is much more advanced than him.

23 Dec 2011 11:17:13
Morning eds, appologise in advance for bringing this isssue to lift again. I have been looking around the old t'internet for the report regarding the Suarez verdict but can't find it. Since the verdict something has been bugging me. the club put out a post verdict statement which kd said that they found it hard to believe that luis could be found guilty on the word of evra alone. This is my issue, I was under the impression that luis had admitted to saying the "n" word but was claiming a cultural misunderstanding. If this is the case then surely the clubs statement contradicts this. The issue for me would be whether the word is deemed to be wrong, clearly it is under the ruling as you simply can not refer to someone by their skin colour, whether friendly or not. If luis has said the word then the charge is correct, although the 8 game ban seems exessive.
If luis has said the word then surely the clubs stance is a dangerous one in that we are a global club and don't want to be seen as accepting that referring to someone in anyway by their skin colour is acceptable.
Just wondering if you can try and clear this up, I have searched the site (as usual) but some of the post are just ludicrous.
Thanks
Andy the red {Ed002's Note - By his own admission Suarez used the word in question. I would advise simply ignoring the club's statement. In terms of the findings by the commission, they were simply that: (1)Mr Suarez used insulting words towards Mr Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3(1); and (2) the insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra's colour within the meaning of Rule E3(2).}

I think the issue is one of criminal law in that Suarez was not being aggressive and the word being used in a hatred type of way. That is what has to be proved in the courts to seal a conviction. Naturally because there are no witnesses it is impossible to prove this was aggressive and with hatred, hence why it would never get to an English court of law. The FA have used their own rule book to say he said black and that is not allowed. Therefore if anyone calls anyone white, coloured, Scottish, French etc during an argument, they would commit the same offence in the FA's eyes off the back of this ruling. Hence why the ruling is so dangerous and frankly insane. {Ed002's Note - It is nothing whatsoever to do with criminal law. It is to do with the FA rules and they are explicit.}

Yes it is the FA rules, but the decision opens the FA up to all sorts of complaints from players, even for someone saying you French i*iot. The ruling means that they would have to agree to take the players word and ban the player for 8 games and that is dangerous. It has opened a big can or worms, wait and see for the next complaint to roll in.

What is not explicit though ed are the punishments. There is so much left open to the F.A.'s discretion. And, in Suarez' case, this has obviously caused the reaction from LFC. If the penalties were clear and transparent, there wouldn't be all this nonsense when their verdicts are delivered. Agreed ?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - I fully agree. Especially when you have one party admitting to a serious racial slur while accusing the other party of one and nothing being done regarding that.}

{Ed002's Note - By his own admission Suarez used the word in question. I would advise simply ignoring the club's statement. In terms of the findings by the commission, they were simply that: (1)Mr Suarez used insulting words towards Mr Evra during the match contrary to FA Rule E3(1); and (2) the insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra's colour within the meaning of Rule E3(2).}

so ed in that sense liverpool could have a similar case against evra purely on the fact that evra (by his own admission) used highly insulting words against suarez during the match contrary to FA Rule E3(1); and (2) the insulting words used by evra included a reference to suarez's colour and/or origin within the meaning of Rule E3(2).

and just because suarez didn't hear it or evra owned up to it doesn't give what he said any less value. because he obviously intended to insult suarez.

and if evra gets the same ban i would be more than happy with suarez also getting it as it makes sense to punish someone within the means of the law. but i just feel it would be fair on suarez if the FA came out and said what they said in the hearing about them not thinking suarez is racist as the media is having too much fun thrashing and descrasing suarez's name and thats why i thing Liverpool (club and players) are sticking up for suarez as they feel the media is out to destroy him.

what are your thoughts...

Safa Haych {Ed001's Note - that is exactly what I have been saying all along, either both are guilty or neither.}

23 Dec 2011 11:15:23
people you do not see that liverpool needs wingers .... Downing and Bellamy and Kuyt likely not create PTR strikers. Suarez has to come to the center to take the ball and try to dribble ... we need two wingers like, Adam jhonson, Jurado, lavezzi. Hulk. we need a striker. so that Suarez will not play 8 matches one of these Strikers, Podolski, Torres, Tevez

100% correct!!

What?

Torres tevez u mad or what. tevez is £200k a week. and torres dont know what to do with football. shaqri, Podolski is much better option.

Shaqiri will be a superstar and have huge re-sale value. Would be right up our alley.

FSG want players like that, they don't want older players who's value (and ability) has peaked. Seems a good plan 2 me.

hey guys...

i am a huge fan but i must temper my goals for lfc..i know we are still in that phase of progression, but sometimes i cant help thinking we should be higher..

anyway...does anyone else get annoyed like me..when for example if we win against wigan..and spurs and chelsea draw..we could make that extra step...but it never seems to happen hehe

so when we win..those teams above us seem to win...

That sums up last 10-20 years mate

Thanks for answering my post guys..i thought i was the only one who gets too excited when we win a few games and then mess up at a crucial game when the other draw that week too

Podolski would be a good buy, we do need an out and out goalscorer. Kuyt has had his time with us, thx, but time for him to move on, hold your head up high son, you did well for us.
I would like to see Hoillett come to Liverpool, he looks a very very good prospect.
Gerrard to return, could get at least 18-24 good months out of him still.
Adam needs to up his game, he has been OK, but needs to do much better.
Hendo - possibly needs more time to develop and needs to be more confident/ballsy.
Current back four is great, back ups also great.
Carrol - stick with him it will be worth it in the end.
Suarez is god - can do no wrong in my eyes. Please stay, I'm sure he will and I think he will sign an extension in a year or so
Target top four this year and next. Its not easy to get back to where we want to be.
The youngsters will come through sometime next season or so - and longer term will be better for us.
Not much wrong with us, just need some lady luck and our mindset needs to be more focused re: scoring goals and being ruthless, we are clearly not at the moment.
We have too many similar players, Hendo, Kuyt, Maxi, Lucas, Spearing , need more variety in their play, they are all fine players but we need more flair from either them, their replacements or the others around them to win games conclusively.
With that elusive luck that all teams need, we could have had an 8-10 points extra this season, things are not all bad. Remember every team that plays us treats it like a cup final, we are still a big scalp.

Merry Xmas to all Liverpool supporters and all the Eds. Thanks, I love this site.

I think that the biggest problem with the S/E situation is that all sorts of strange creatures come crawling out of the woodwork with totally unnecessary and unhelpful comments. Why McGrath is now getting involved is a mystery to me. His remarks about Johnson are in the least a form of inert racism. I am sure that Johnson is his own man and would not have come out in support of Suarez if he didn't think that it was appropriate. What really annoys me is the attack on Liverpool FC. Perhaps it'd time to change the name of the club to Liverpool UNITED (with UNITED in capital letters).

Any truth that fox in the box Owen coming back to Anfield in Jan? I think he would jump at the chance. Lets be honest, he is a RED, not a devil. {Ed002's Note - I suspect there is no truth in it.}

A chanxe of Owen coming back? I would rate that as slightly more improbable than a blizzard in August or lions becoming vegetarian. Apart from which he would be as welcome as a fart in a confessional box. Merry Xmas. RED LENIN

Hi Ed's

What is FA going to do regarding the fan's outburst of booing and racist to players Its difficult to play under these conditions Suarez was not found guilty of being a racist yet the FA and the media are branding both Suarez and Liverpool FC as racists or supporting racism. I would do the same and go to any length to clear my name and would appreciate all support esp my immediate team mates Evra also used insulting and racists remarks yet no charge.

Thanks Ed's
Zorro {Ed002's Note - The FA are not branding Suarez a racist.}

Hi Ed002 - no they haven't but that is how the media and fans etc have seen and reported it so that is how he is seen by the majority of people. I'm afraid that unless he can clear his name, he'll be labelled as such and that is really sad.
Have a good Christmas and Happy New Year!
The Goatherder
JFT96 {Ed002's Note - I cannot help that the fans do not understand the charge that he has been found guilty of, and being a racist is nothing to do with it. As for the media, it seems that there has been some poor reporting - so the fans should raise that with the papers etc. themselves - but in a controlled and rational manner. It is however very clear that many of the fans posting here are not taking the time to read the results of the panel's deliberations but have gotten hold of a copy of their favourite red tops and over-reacted to what they have said. Suarez is not a racist, but he does seem to be particularly stupid.}

But the media is {Ed002's Note - I understand that there has been some poor reporting, but making a racist remark does not make the speaker a racist. Perhaps you need to choose your readiong matter more carefully.}

Ed alot of fans are getting this wrong. It looks like Suarez has used a racial term(this is not acceptable) but no one not even Evra are saying he is a racist.

Let me give an similar example. I am not in any way homophobic. However I still use language that is wrong saying to a friend "oh your so .....". While I am not homophobic the language I sometimes use in jest is simply not acceptable I understand that and offer no defence other than stupidity.

So if he did use a racial term He must sort it out.

The only saint in an LFC shirt was St John we should not be turning this whole saga into a bigger issue than it already is.

Dont Buy The Sun

There is a bit of confusion going on. Nobody thinks Suarez is a racist - not even the FA, not even Evra. What Suarez did was make a remark that involved the colour of Evra's skin that is not acceptable. In future to avoid confusion, Evra (and all the other Man Utd players) should just be referred to the more acceptable term of h***ing Manc ap**holes and other acceptable comment regarding the paternity of their children, the fidelity of their wives and allegations about the part-time activities of their mother. Then there will be no problems. Merry Xmas. RED LENIN

Im afraid Ed/previous poster,a lot of fans,especially Rival ones.And media,either dont understand through ignorance,are being malicious,or as most,inc media=Thick,and are branding Suarez as racist!What agenda they have varies(if they have one)Majority stupid! {Ed002's Note - Aside from a few Manchester United fans, very few fans aside from the Liverpool fans have posted on this subject at all. if the media is not doing a good job of reporting in a fair manner than you have an obligation to write to tell them that.}

I Agree abd have done Ed.Yet talksport wont take call,when know stance.Your tad incorrect re.other fans mate.Wigan awful to Suarez,and vGooner/Man u fans been on here posting rubbish

Ed002, maybe I'm old school but is calling someone a..............

Perhaps the FA should post a list of terms deemed rascist or profanity and be clear on the issue?

Chuck Norris {Ed002's Note - The FA rules are absolute clear. I struggle to see your point.}

My point is Ed002, is there a list with the word 'Negr#to' on it as a banned/not allowed word? I doubt it.

Guess, white, yellow, blue will have to be added too? Lol

Chuck Norris {Ed001's Note - there will be no banned list, they would be hard pressed to get support for the banning of a word which is mainly used as a term of endearment. The suffix 'ito' is usually used in a way similar to the way we use dear here, though it literally means little.}

I wish that the amount of money paid for players wasnt released for us to see because the way people go on about it its like its come out of there own pocket

kenny dalglish is great fact money spent against money brought in left us 30mil down and for the squad we now have i think its fantastic business plus wages for these better players are lower and thats without the eventual sale of cole and aquilani

benitez one of the worst buyers and sellers in history we made a dirty great loss every year with him in charge and ended up with crap most of the time we got it right one year but then he ruined it the year after

dalglish legend rafa not so

Rafa Benitez only had a £21.5million net spend during his 6 years at the club which in my opinion is brilliant.

Do your research in future.

Tom

To be fair to benitez he net spend was only about 20m every season.
He may have bought a lot of players but he also sold a lot too and mostly getting profit.
Managers always become under the spot light on transfers in but never Out.

How much was the Benetez pay-off
when he left? Was it 6 million? I

In My Opinion - If you look at the Liverpool transfer policy, the current situation regarding player attraction and also the possitions we need to strengthen in, which in my opinion are Defensive Midfielder, Winger and Striker. I believe, should we have sufficiant funds that viable options are -

DM - Fabrice Muamba

W - In all honesty there is no-one that stands out for me at the moment that we would be able to attract- suggestions welcome.

I as much as anyone get frustrated when we don't win or don't perform to our best but the negativity surrounding the wigan game was unbelievable. Yes many players didn't perform up to scratch and in the last 10 minutes I was pretty close to smashing nearby objects but ultimately we find ourselves in a pretty decent position going into christmas. The most frustrating part is that it could and should have been a lot better but it isn't. A month or so ago people were saying as long as we are in touching distance of top 4 then we have a chance. With the draw last night we are certainly within touching distance and all the london rivals are to come to anfield in the new year.

There is plenty to look forward to but please can we start taking our chances.

On a lighter note during the spurs chelsea game last night the commentator said that in the calendar year 2011 torres has scored more goals for liverpool than chelsea, brilliant!

Merry Christmas

In my fantasy world without vering off the rails of Possibility I would like us to sign 3 players. 4 players would be the biggest dream.

The 3 players I would like to see are:

Hoilett, Padolski and Luuk De Jong

A 4th if possible would be Sissoko.

Reina
Johnson Agger Skrtel Enrique

Adam Gerrard/Henderson
Hoilett Padolski
De Jong Suarez

Sissoko would be really handy for when Gerrard is injured.

Obviously I do not think we will sign this many players. Just think deals are possible for all and would be good business. Its hope.

Also not comparing henderson to Gerrard. If Gerrards fit I have him there. If not its Henderson.

De jong,not for me would rather see soldado any day of the week

First of all, I'd like to wish all the Eds and fellow Reds a happy Xmas.
I am not going to get bogged down in the whole Suarez debate, but I'd just like to say its a bit farcical that Evra has not been questioned yet.
I am of the believe that racism of any nature cannot be condoned, but you can't sentence a man on evidence of only one solitary witness.

Any ways , any suggestions what I should get the missus for Xmas?

Hi ed,
Just wanted to know what will be the next action taken by LFC on Suarez ban? Will we appeal the ban and what are the consequences? If Suarez misses the 8 games, will be for only BPL or accumulatively for cups games too?

Also would like to wish all the eds and people behind this great website, a merry Xmas and happy new year.

Samsaliva from Malaysia. {Ed002's Note - They will await the full report and have until January 3 to appeal. All competitve first team games are covered by the ban.}

Thanks ed, very helpful

Doesn't the 14 day appeal thingy start from the date the full report is released? {Ed002's Note - Yes, the club will already have the report.}

Ed002 i've read this morning they won't get the written report until the new year so suely this should extend the appeal date

Isn't it time to get Rafael Benitez back at the club. He still lives in liverpool and isn't up to much at the moment.

Kenny looks as if he has aged another 50 years managing the club. Never seen such a long face on man. its killing him slowly, management isn't great for the health. Maybe he should get some more help.

Really, he needs to get John Bishop in to help him with a few interview jokes. It isn't that bad. Laugh a little bit more.

I really couldn't care if LFC where fighting for relegation. Wigan and Martinez role with punches and he always has a smile on his face

Rafa would undermine kenny...would almost act as a co manager..its not in his nature to be number 2 or lower

...Kenny wouldn't want it any other way. They get paid a lot of money for that stress by he way. I'd do it for a year! ;-)

Rafa bought in Kenny, i cant see why rafa cant be figura head for the club and still play golf

Most prem managers drop dead of heart attack. its alot of stress for very little reward.

Alan Hassen has a better time of it with bbc

Very little reward? are you having a laugh. If what they get is "little reward" you must be on 100 mill a year.

Raffa is no longer the gaffa,
Kenny is thank god.
Raffa got a 6 million pay-out
when he left. If he ever comes
back, he should that back to the club.

Chris Boyd has a fantastic scoring record and can't be that expensive if rangers are after him. How much would he cost and do you think kk would be interested

He is rubbish? scotland is like our 3rd division.

He's bought out his contract, so he'd be free. Assuming, of course, that this is the Kris Boyd that couldn't score for M'Boro or Notts Forest when he was playing in the championship. Lazy, unskilled, and nowhere near good enough for any Premiership team... and I should know, I played against him a few times before he signed for Killie. In fact, if Kenny really wants him, i'll let him out my back pocket especially!

Hi all,
I have been watching all of our games very closely this season. It is undoubted that we are playing far better football this season and with a few more goals scored during our periods of dominance we would surely be in a similar position to Spurs. After all, they are the only team I would say have outplayed us this season. Draws have been a massive problem for us in the recent past, with the likes of Wigan, Wolves, Bolton and Blackpool taking points of us at Anfield in recent history, something that cannot be said for our rivals. Obviously Suarez is not scoring enough goals, but I would argue that an out and out goalscorer is not required. His record for Ajax(Dutch league granted) and Uruguay, the 4th best team in the world is very very good. I simply believe that a creative, flair player is all we are lacking, whether its a Silva, Nani, Bale/Modric, Mata/Sturridge etc. Our defense is solid, and our midfield strings passes together very well, however, we often fail to create clear cut chances due to a lack of inspiration. Suarez often creates this, but then who is in the box? This player, whether a winger who glides past people and delivers a great ball, or a tricky player such as Silva/Nasri/Mata etc, would surely bring that bit of culture to our play and give Suarez the chances he deserves and puts away for fun! Simply one moment of magic against Sunderland, Swansea, Fulham, Norwich, Stoke, Wigan and even Both Manchester sides and we could be sitting with over 40 points. Sorry for the long post, but I think we are so close and any doubters must have a short memory, as this side is a million miles ahead of the Hodgson, Konchesky, Kyrgiakos rubbish we had 12 months ago.
Cheers

Should of kept Raul Meireles.

We would of had 10 extra goal this season. He does know how to pick out the right man, and ghost into positons to score goals.

He is a better option than Andy Carrol, Shouldn't of let him leave so early in his lfc career. Players need a season to settle. We would of seen some magical stuff from him this year.

You leave the Greek out of your bile. He never let us down. And he wasn't one of Hodgson's calamity signings either.
ND

Kyrgiakos always did his job, He wasnt ment to play every game. He was a bit-part player, bought cheap to fill a key role if we had injuries.

I really can't understand fans hate for him. He did his job and did the best he could do. I remember when fans where bad mouthing Lucas.

They love him now.

If Aquaman could have settled in L4, he would have been the guy. Looked very good pre season and can open up defences with ease

Does Royal Madrid have the backing of spainish banks to go out and spent good money on Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez is little too good for liverpool and everyone watching knows it. Luis Suarez kills himself on the pitch while the rest of the team watch him.

If we get £80 million offer for Luis Suarez, is it time to deal or no deal. Ronaldo in 2009 when for £81m.

Suarez is something magical and should be playing for manchester utd or real madrid. Reminds me of Eric

Scum or Bitter? Take your pick for this unsigned tripe.
ND

Idiotic to think we could get £80 for Suarez

What do you think a magical player like Luis is worth. I think Fergi will put a bid in for him soon. He has that magical factor about him. He is a player who can make things happen from nothing.

Yeah because Kenny would sell our best player to fergie...

Gabriel Torje: Right Winger

Gabriel Torje Romanian 22 November 1989. Is a Romanian footballer who currently plays for Serie A club Udinese. He is a versatile right winger with the ability to swap onto the left side of the field during games. nicknamed "the porno midget" Wing Wizard‎

Udinese signed him for €10 million, Vauled at £20million by Udi and wanted by Arsenal for £11m.

Liverpool need Right Winger ASAP to save their season. Or we should go for Adam Johnson from Man City. He isnt going to get much game time this season.

Or we should go for Séamus Coleman the everton wing back. Our weakest position. Remember Tottenham game.

Hello all, it's a disgrace the way that people constantly belittle Andy Carroll. He is expected to score even when he has only made one start in seven games and is coming on in the last few minutes. Maybe if the fans would support like they should for all Liverpool players he could build up his confidence and start scoring. I for one can't wait until he does to see all the so called "fans" praising him week in and week out while at the moment they only complain about him. Also ed is luuk de Jong main target for January and do you expect a mid to be signed?
Thanks
Tyrone red

He isnt a LFC player. Never will be.

Just big waste of money. We should of asked for Sergio Aguero instead of that flop.

And we should of patched Gerrard up and sold him on for 50p to Real Madrid. That would of balanced the books on Sergios wages.

He would of been worth the money. We would been in Europe by know, and in to for the title.

You have to admit Andy Carrol is one of the reasons why are flopping at the moment. So off the pace.

We could of kept Crouch, or gotten him back. He was only £10m. Bent was £18m, £35m for someone who only had half a season in Premiership.

We really did get taken in by all the hype. The big White Hype.

It was madness to take that kind of deal. Money in the bank would of been better. Have we even used him since buying him in Jan.

Its been almost a year, He is an offical flop. A big waste of money. Doesnt play.

Yawn...another anonymous troll from somewhere

Its getting really boring. Get over it and move on. Focus on the future.

He wasn't bought for one year, he was bought for AT LEAST FIVE. Also... Does every single player have to be world class by the time they turn 23? I'd rather him struggle for form now, and come good and flourish at 24-27 and benefit from having a big powerful striker who knows how to score.

McSnuggles

I get it,. we bought a 5 year flop

So I can keep posting that he isnt good enough to play our system for another 4 years then? Carroll's problem isnt lack of confidence its a lack of effort on his part and a lack of any idea how to fit into our system.

Steve

2011 review

First i would like to point out that compared to last season we are in a much better place. Suarez have dipped of lately, his attitude looks like the attitude torres had his last days, but suarez is having a rough patch in his liverpool carrer. Downing is does not live up to the price, he need a goal, he is working hard but does not trust himself due to the lack of assists and goals. Carroll can come good, he is working hard the few minutes he gets each game also need goals, Carroll has been unlucky with the shots, in the post and the goalie always gets lucky when the occasionally good shots from him comes. Enrique is fabolous. Henderson is talented, not presenting the price 16 mil, yet.
KK done good buys like Adam, Enrique, Suarez.
players who could come great Carroll, Henderson
the only bad buy is downing so far, ofcourse with some confidence he could come good to but not high class. Liverpool need one can opener and a fox in the box, if carroll dont steps up.
Rafa would done better buys in my opnion, but in KK we trust

I was with you until the last line.

Anyone who listens to Talksport will be aware of the total assassination of Liverpool Football Club today by that clown Adrian Durham. To court controversy and entice callers to his crap show he is willing to ignite the racism problem even more and, even worse, to inflame the hatred between Liverpool and Manchester United.

I think it's about time we gave Talksport and the Ginger Whinger's programme a bit of the S*n treatment. There have been many occasions, even in Courts of law, where people have been hanged and found to be innocent afterwards. That is why Liverpool supporters and players, even the black players, are standing firm together. Everybody knows that, as soon as the FA had a morsel to bite on (Suarez admitting saying a word that is deemed inoffensive in South America) they would come down like a ton of bricks on us. I'm not going to inflame the Liverpool / Man. Utd situation even more but everyone knows that all within the FA are absolutely terrified of offending Comic Relief Nose Ferguson. We were never going to get the verdict.

I urge Liverpool supporters to e-mail or write to Talksport to complain about Durham, don't ring the show (which is what he wants) or, even better, boycott Talksport and leave a listening void on Merseyside. Let them suffer just like the S*n!

redmersey

In fairness we have brought a lot of this onto ourselves. A simple statement at the beginning saying we will continue to support the player but will not make any statement until after the evidence has been presented.

It is has taken years to gain repect but this could be destroyed overnight. Sponsors will not want to be associated with this

My own view is that wearing teeshirts was the wrong idea

How can u say that, we wore the shirts and everyone supported suarez cause he is being accused of being racist wen his isn't , he has the whole world looking at him , loads hating him, all this pressure fans booing him , he is a human being and him and his family are suffering over something that he said and didn't have no Intention it being a racist remark, all because the fa want to seem more anti racist than sepp blatter, and other teams managers and some players also back him which surely shows they no suarez is not a racist. Liverpool r right to wear the suarez shirts and I'm proud of the team , fans and management for helping luis out . I'd also like them to wear a kick fa out of football t. Shirt for the next match lol rant over FACT!! Da da da da da da da luis suarez!!!! {Ed002's Note - There is no suggestion whatsoever from the FA that Suarez is a racist. He has been found guilty of using insulting behaviour and using insulting behaviour related to a player's race, colour, ethnic origin etc.. He has been given a punishment, and if that punishment is too harsh then that is a separate matter. That is it. You are making things out to be a great deal worse than they are. I am told there was poor reporting in a number of the European papers - but I really don't understand why you would wish to read any of them in any case.}

I see wot ur saying ed , but isn't using insulting behaviour to someones race another word for saying he being racist , {Ed002's Note - Not at all. In most cases it would be no more than something said in the heat of the moment. It was a stupid thing to do and now he has to face the consequences of it. The FA, the independent commission and Evra have all made it clear he is not a racist - but he, by his own admission, is guilty as charged. The harshness of the punishment and any discussions about whether or not Evra should be charged or matters surrounding Terry are all separate issues and it is simply clouding the issue bringing them up. The statement from the club was ill-advised to say the least and will not help matters. Bleating about the members of the commission is is hopelessly grasping at straws. What they need to do now is digest the full report from the commission and have the lawyers decide on a stragtegy for appeal. At a guess I suspect that they will not appeal the two findings relating to the rules but will appeal the harshness of the punishment (being suspended for eight matches and fined £40k). The may well need a precendent to be successful, and I am not so sure that one exists.}

Ed ! , i usually have a lot of time for your opinions but to me you seem to have a warped way of looking at this whole thing. semantics.

Ed002, I also agree that you are usually on the money. But no. What you describe is the very definition of racist behaviour, whereas Suarez' behaviour was borne of cultural and language ignorance/miscommunication.

Evra took offence at what he percieved as a racist slur - and Suarez claims he had not intended his words (that word mainly!) as a racist slur. Cultural differences.

For example. Many people call Irish 'paddies', totally unaware that many Irish take offence at the term. These people are just ignorant of this, they did not intended to offend when they used it (not all the time!), they just didn't know it can be seen as offensive.

So even when speaking the same language - this term is still used by people. unaware that its offensive - ignorance is a genuine defence sometimes.

Suarez is a case of that, with additional language and cultural confusion thrown in for good measure.

They (the FA) have said that Suarez is guilty of racially abusing Evra - this makes him a racist.

Suarez is saying he did not - that his language, as used at the time, was not racist, that he was innocently unaware the word was taboo in England (as was much of the rest of the world till this happened!). Which is reasonable.

Suarez is now the only 'outed racist' in football. Well done the FA. Such a serious crime should have concrete proof and explanations for their verdict, the charge is serious, but the implications of being displayed publicly as a racist! This will follow Suarez forever.

I need proof that Suarez' words were actually intended as a racist slur, the language, cultural barrier makes that unclear. In fact, I have seen no proof that it is offensive. To pass a guillty verdict on such spurious grounds is at best unbelievable, at worst - irresponsible and dangerous.

This is not the case with 'JT'. His language was rather more clearcut.

What you are saying just makes no sense ed. Why people cannot understand anger at the verdict is beyond me (not really though - humans aren't the brightest most of the time, a suggestable bunch!).
