Jus got back from anfield and I must say champion league nights bring the best out if the crowd. Atmosphere was electric tonight, and a performance that got us all on the edge if our seat. Don't wanna talk about the 2 goals let's talk jus positive. none more so than manè, boy that lad is amazing. I know Barcelona are looking at coutinho for a iniesta replacement but manè should be the Neymar replacement. That lad us a future balon d'or winner. QUALITY.

Don't be giving them ideas now.

23 Aug 2017 23:06:57
Breathtaking going forward, what a third goal!

But once again - the defence was exposed. Lovren and Moreno, sorry we will not win anything with those two.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

23 Aug 2017 23:36:28
We won this game with those two.

23 Aug 2017 23:49:04
The more I look at the third goal, the better it gets.

Firmino shows for the ball on the halfway line, and lays it off perfectly, whilst under pressure, for Wijnaldum. Mane's right on the shoulder of the defender, times his run well, and Wij picks him out first time with a perfect pass. Look at how much he has to put on that ball to take the fullback out, that's very easily overhit. Firmino's also on the move, immediately trying to get back with the play after the layoff. Mane realises he only has Salah in the box, so instead of just driving full pace at the defender and hoping to get lucky, he has the intelligence to slow down enough for Firmino to arrive and picks him out with the backheel. Salah moves towards the penalty spot attracting the attention of two defenders, leaving a giant hole at the back post. Emre Can started his run from center circle roughly when Mane reached the pass, so I reckon he makes up 50 yards or so in about 6 or 7 seconds, and Firmino has the vision and technique to pick him out first time.

As good a team goal as I've seen us score in a long time.

24 Aug 2017 00:03:08
Qualifying matches?

24 Aug 2017 02:54:07
Great goal. Gini's through ball for Mane is mouth-watering.

24 Aug 2017 06:06:16
Firminos was even better!

23 Aug 2017 23:06:07
Shaktar, Porto, and Qarabag tomorrow please.

23 Aug 2017 23:42:02
More like Real Madrid, Dortmund and Celtic. Bring em on!

23 Aug 2017 23:48:39
I'd rather this

Monaco - totally decimated this year, will be amazed if they are as good again
Porto - Not far to travel, poor record away from home
Maribor - Very poor team, also not far to travel

I fully expect the following

Real Madrid
PSG
RBL

And that would be awful.

24 Aug 2017 01:07:14
Not being funny but why wouldn't you want to play the best teams that you can. Not only does it prove to the players, fans and opposing teams that we are quality when we beat them, it builds momentum when you beat big teams and if you do slip up so what you were playing against a quality team! Plus this is the Champions league, we are Liverpool and we can beat ANYONE! COME ON REDMEN!

24 Aug 2017 01:08:16
RedDawn let me dream. 😂😂.

24 Aug 2017 01:10:50
Barcelona will be in our group.

24 Aug 2017 01:51:27
And what's the betting united get an easy draw yet again? Something like spartak, anderlecht and Maribor.

24 Aug 2017 08:19:48
I want Barcelona in our group even tho, I may come to regret it.

23 Aug 2017 23:04:45
Great win tonight I thought mane, salah, can were brilliant. But firmino was just different gravy.
I don't need to say anything about lovren apart from klopp sort it out asap.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

24 Aug 2017 08:20:28
What did Lovren actually do wrong?

23 Aug 2017 23:01:01
Job done tonight boys, PC doesn't worry me to much, 100 mil plus other sales should be more than enough to cover him, VVD, Kieta and Mahrez would do me with Ward in goals. Love Klopp but Benitez had built a spine of a team by now, we can be the new up and coming force in Europe.
This next week is essential, get it right and we're on our way, get it wrong and I fear we may drop to far behind the big boys, with ridiculous money being spent we need to be involved.

23 Aug 2017 22:50:47
Eds any chance with Baumann? He looked a decent keeper tonight confident, controlled his box well and made some good saves?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - About zero}

23 Aug 2017 23:03:15
forgot about how he was beaten by can at near post?

23 Aug 2017 23:03:30
Funniest thing jus heard hoffenheim manager " we can't put a propeller and engine on our players its illegal on pitch " in reference too how good mane was an is, move over phil its all about Mane!

23 Aug 2017 22:43:40
I see Gerrard on BT sports, when asked who should Liverpool sign, he defensively said "I Can't name any players"

Do you think the club know their mistakes and are coaching people who interact with media or just the persons themselves realising it's not good to mention names?

Believable8 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 23:01:02
Think he's enough sense not to give names out.

24 Aug 2017 01:52:53
He also said a central defender and central midfielder - he didn't name names, but it seemed obvious who he was talking about.

23 Aug 2017 22:41:34
I think we need to all take our hats off to Bobby F tonight. What a performance! What we also need to understand is, he was not only playing against his old club, but one of his closest LFC companions is caught up in one of the biggest stories of the 2017 transfers. He was BRILLIANT tonight and I have a lot of respect for the guy.

Believable18 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 22:54:17
Dont say that mate Barcelona might b listening, he will b next on the wanted list he is amazin though an hopefully loyal.

23 Aug 2017 23:09:02
Just another reason why we can allow Couts to leave. Need to keep Bobby happy.

What was his dropping the shorts goal celebration all about?

23 Aug 2017 23:10:16
If we stand firm on Phil, who's to say we can't be the next top team in Europe and the rest will want to come to Liverpool!

23 Aug 2017 23:27:29
Great post. Bobby proved himself a great pro and integral to LFC.

24 Aug 2017 03:53:08
for a moment i thought he was going to take off his pants :d.

23 Aug 2017 22:29:24
managed to bag some decent tickets for tonight, good game, Mane run them ragged.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 23:09:22
not only great on attack. mane was there to cover moreno when needed as well.

23 Aug 2017 23:39:40
Moreno was poor and bloody rash with them challenges, just frustrates me so much, he was getting called alsorts by some members of the crowd sadly.

23 Aug 2017 23:42:28
Good man Mike. Mane looked superb on the telly. So did TAA.

23 Aug 2017 22:18:41
Great great result tonight

2 glaring things that stood out for me today,

1: we now have numerous marquee players, with another one or two additions we look very very strong. Big well done to klopp for this considering how we looked when he took over

2: we cannot afford to lose emre can on a free, he is class and still young, offer him whatever he wants to get him to stay.

Believable13 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 22:56:32
Totally agree I really like can future captain german beast we should chant his name loud as ever too let him know he is seriously appreciated fans can play a big part plus a fat wad of dosh.

23 Aug 2017 23:22:38
I have a feeling that Can are playing his heat out to earn himself a shiny top contract with our club. I really hope he'll achieve what he deserves!

24 Aug 2017 00:53:08
We need to sign him up.

24 Aug 2017 02:27:01
He's been offered a contract, he wants guarantees he'll be starting. We can't do that.

24 Aug 2017 03:12:09
But if we get Keita, do we need him, and is it good for his career to stay with us?

23 Aug 2017 22:22:16
Really excited. if couts goes it will be a blow but we can live without him. if mane gets a injury we are screwed lol.
Is it just me. are we the only team that's fans worry even when we are 6.3 up. lolol.

Believable13 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 23:20:43
I was worried too.

23 Aug 2017 22:20:23
Sorry for the long post but bare with me and let me know ed01 and fans if u agree or disagree (its all about opinions at the end of the day with football) A few things on tonight's game.

Brilliant play for the goals could have had more but hoffenhim were a mess at the back and surprisingly for them really let themselves down defensively! Regardless, mane firmino and can in particular were outstanding!

I still maintain I'd like to see us with a striker in the Torres/ drogba/ costa/ van persie mould, someone who stays in the box and that all those teams who win the premiership have! Firmino could do a great job from a deeper free role, too often tonight when I looked up there was no one in the box and the players who were were mostly mane or salah who aren't the biggest and with Robertson delivery in the future a better target man and more traditional striker would be great to have in there who can reach 20+ goals.

Henderson had a great captains performance getting stuck in plenty, tidying up a lot of loose balls, and good passing range both long and short!

Taa excellent again both in defence and delivery into the box (again just wishing a traditional striker was in there more often)

Finally to end on a low unfortunately our defence is just a joke, I always feel like we are going to concede and that's not good enough! I've always given lovren the benefit of the doubt but tonight against really poor opposition who fortunately couldn't take all the chances they were presented, particular that gnarby lad, he was really poor and sloppy along with moreno. It's like they don't realise the importance of being solid at the back and what's at stake at times regardless of the scoreline! Those performances would stand for a conte, or pochetino or mourinho or most coaches at the top of the league or bottom for that matter!

However I still don't know if new defensive recruitment this summer will make a big difference! Not all the problems will be sorted and to be honest I'm not entirely sure what the problem is cos I'm not a manager or coach being paid top money! But the problem has been there for years now under klopp Rodgers Dalglish and Hodgson, the last manager to have put just as much effort into defense as the rest of the team was benetiz and that worked out well for a good while under him! We need to adapt our overall play aswell as some personnel in the team.

Anyway great to be back in the champions league really hope some depth is added now to that squad which is going to face a minimum extra 6 games now this season and hopefully more!

Believable6 Unbelievable3

23 Aug 2017 22:58:28
You speak a lot of sense, but I am not sure if there is a better Number 9 for our system than Bobby F. The more static likes of Sturridge and Benteke cannot make it work. In terms of defence, Lovren has to be the most disappointing signing since Phil Babb - both were big money signings, and both proved to be seriously underpar.

23 Aug 2017 23:29:36
The one that springs to my mind is Harry Kane. He grinds all the time, and works really hard for his team. And, bare the month of August, he is lethal.

Is that realistic? Nah.

24 Aug 2017 00:55:36
I actually like the look of Solanke - works hard upfront and a useful CF, but for now Firmino every time. We're not struggling to score and he was involved in most of our best moves and goals today.

24 Aug 2017 03:20:11
Benitez was lucky enough to have Carragher already at the club. Sami, Agger and Skrtel were all decent, but I think Carra's leadership and organizational qualities helped solidify the defense under Rafa's reign. Pepe Reina was brilliant also - nearly forgot about him. So Rafa deserves some credit, definitely, but I wonder if we'd have been so solid for such a long time without Carra?

23 Aug 2017 22:19:17
Just a quick word on Alexander-Arnold. The thing that strikes out to me about him is his desire to get past his man and attack the opposition with such confidence. I've noticed in the recent past how our academy products tend to get to their man and then hesitate and either go backwards or sideways. Trent just ran at them instead, and although not always successful, which was refreshing to see. He reminded me of a young Dani Alves tonight (ok maybe overstretching it a little) and who knows, if he continues to kick on and put the graft in he could sort out our right back position for a long time to come and become a top quality player.

A. C. I couldn't agree more.

23 Aug 2017 23:00:48
Great post we have a real gem on our hands what do you think his best position will be he has played more advanced.

23 Aug 2017 23:00:54
here here.

23 Aug 2017 23:06:29
He is absolutely destined to make it at the highest level. I am convinced.

I went to the Watford game and he was practicing crosses in the pre match warm up. I noticed that none of them went above head level. Aside from the free kick which was at head level I've also noticed his corners and crosses are not clearing the front man. I don't think it's technique. I have the feeling he is trying to whip them in at that height rather than float them in. .

I'm relatively clueless about Tactics so I'm curious if this is what he is being asked to do.

23 Aug 2017 23:44:47
Its about abilty and confidence also. Several of recent young players had that "take on" attitude. Jordon Ibe was a bright prospect, but his take ons went all so predictable, and into the defenders legs. Jordons main problem was the lack of natural football feeling. I belive TAAs strongpoint compared to Ibe, is his ability to take the right decitions. When to go, when to stay.

24 Aug 2017 15:20:40
Lads going to be class I think.

People make me laugh on this site talking about Klopp. He will only be a good manager when he starts winning trophies not when we have just qualified for the group stages of a competition against a team that would probably end up towards the bottom of the premier league if they were in it. We need to be realistic.

23 Aug 2017 22:08:23
Firmino was different class tonight, the second goal shows what he offers to this team, dropping deep to create space in behind for mane.

Believable15 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 22:26:01
We were brilliant an so well done to the lads, but this squad seriously needs few more numbers in, lovren such a liability might actually b better as a holding midfielder haha.

23 Aug 2017 22:02:22
Did I just heard Klopp say that with CL now they can sign contracts and fulfill our ambitions, is he implying Can and new players?

Believable17 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 23:38:10
I actually went back and listened to the youtube clip of this 3 times. It's open to interpretation. He could have meant what you said. It can also be taken to mean that being in the Champions League is what he talks about "when extending contracts, signing new players and talking about fulfilling dreams".

I hope it means we have a busy week ahead. Get in a CB, and a defensive midfielder. If Coutinho leaves, he leaves.

23 Aug 2017 22:01:14
Question for any of the eds do you think we will dip into the transfer market now we have champions league football and do you think a cb and dm we will aim for?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - we would have tried to do so regardless of this game.}

23 Aug 2017 22:07:16
Thanks for the quick reply ed001 think wwe need a couple in ed001.

{Ed001's Note - the club have been intending to sign 3 more.}

23 Aug 2017 22:19:29

{Ed001's Note - probably not.}

24 Aug 2017 15:21:53
Keita, Van Dijk and Ox.

23 Aug 2017 22:01:08
I just want to say one thing. Take a bow Bobby! What a player! So intelligent, his movement, his defensive contribution, his ball control in tight areas and his vision to pick a pass! If he had just a bit more pace he would be unplayable. we don't need a striker we need classy midfielder and cb and we are good to go!

Believable13 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 22:07:20
B-b-but he doesn't score enough goals!

j/ k, the guy's absolutely brilliant.

But just for people obsessed with numbers, fairly sure I read something last season that showed in nearly every stat other than goals scored (assists, chance creation, distance dribbled, passes), Firmino was ahead every other center forward in the EPL, La Liga or Bundesliga.

23 Aug 2017 22:12:33
And a keeper, wtf was Migs doing today xD thought he was trying out for the circus juggling 😂.

23 Aug 2017 22:00:32
Henderson high press bring back the memories of 13/ 14. He was a brilliant B2B midfield ball winner and only a dumb would drop him to a deeper role taking out his biggest attribute that's his energy.

Cmon Klopp buy a world class holding midfielder and play in that role and realase the shackles of Hendo. His best attributes lies elsewhere. He is no creator but a pure ball winner and a good one! Play him where he is good at and you get the best from him!

23 Aug 2017 22:07:36
He was always one of the best ball winners in the country. It was someone who dropped him to the DM role that took his natural game out from him.

23 Aug 2017 21:44:24
Now we buy players.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 21:47:52
The payments for CL participation pale into insignificance compared with EPL.
So I, unfortunately, don't buy into that we had to qualify for CL Group stage before purchasing.

Plus we have already brought Robertson, Salah and Solanke in.

23 Aug 2017 21:51:39
I think it's more the prestige of the champions league then the money side agger.

23 Aug 2017 21:53:15
AggerDo, don't know why you or anyone would believe that. We are already flush with cash and we did bid 75m for Keita and was ready to drop mad cash for VVD (had their teams accepted to do business with us) way before the CL playoff so again, I don't understand this idea that we needed CL first to sign players.

{Ed001's Note - we are not flush with cash.}

23 Aug 2017 21:59:23
Interestingly, did anyone hear Klopp mention pre match that every player you talk to to sign or for a new contract talks about champions league?

Might of been nothing but may actually mean that certain deals have been waiting to go tthrough depending on whether we qualify.

24 Aug 2017 06:35:16
My point exactly George. Elite players demand to play with/ against other elite players. To think otherwise is to live in fantasy land.

24 Aug 2017 07:21:57
Bingo, my point is exactly that. We have bid, and bought, before securing CL qualification so those who think we will now sign 5 players off the back of being in group stages will be disappointed.

23 Aug 2017 21:42:50
Does Klopp look like he's aged ten years now?
Does he look like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders?
All the snydey, nasty comments about him recently, where are the owners of those comments now?
Sometimes ya just have to shut up and trust the man who knows better.
Great, great result and now on we go into the group stages. get a player or two in over the next week and all will be looking positive.
C'mon!

Believable9 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 21:58:05
Spot on, Orlish. They keep moaning about Klopp cos well, what else can you do even tho, I think his mistakes have exposed him to some valid criticism. However all in all, he is a very good manager and he has improved us since he walked in the door. We need to build and push on with the momentum we have now and hopefully, there will be better days ahead for our great club.

23 Aug 2017 21:42:12
We seriously need good cb's if klopp can't see that he needs specssavers!

Believable8 Unbelievable3

23 Aug 2017 21:47:02
Stop mourning at least for today, leave room for victory to preveil.

23 Aug 2017 21:54:08
I'm delighted we won but won't go far with that defence it need sorting asap.

23 Aug 2017 21:59:06
Jay, can you just be happy for five minutes? Good Grief!

23 Aug 2017 22:20:00
I am delighted bingo but it's horrible when teams attack that's all I'm saying pal.

23 Aug 2017 23:16:45
Now I can celebrate last season's 4th place job done.

23 Aug 2017 21:41:54
WE IN HERE!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 21:38:07
Just want to say, hats off to Moreno. He's no world beater but he's proved that with hard work, you can find a way back into the team even when everyone thought (myself included) that he would never start again. Well done Alberto. 😢.

Believable11 Unbelievable10

23 Aug 2017 21:43:11
Diving into tackles again he's a liability in defence! Going forward yes but defence he's dirt!

23 Aug 2017 21:43:51
Just wish he could defend cause he seems a great lad.

23 Aug 2017 21:44:03
in listening to the match it sounded as if he was out of position quite a bit, was that the case?

23 Aug 2017 21:48:12
Moreno can't pass cross or defend but yeah amazing *rolls eyes*.

23 Aug 2017 21:48:45
I said he was no world beater. He looked good going forward. Wasn't that bad at the back either (compared to usual) . Was just showing a bit of appreciation for someone who has worked hard and fought his way back into the team.

23 Aug 2017 21:52:06
Moreno's fine until you knock a diagonal ball over him or chip one in behind him. He's more or less guaranteed to let someone run off him or just outright lose the flight of the ball when that happens.

I like the guy and would love him to succeed because he runs himself into the ground every match and we need more players who'll do that, but he is just not good enough defensively and he won't ever be. Once Robertson's up to full fitness, expect Moreno to be clear 2nd choice.

Lovren's been absolutely shocking so far this season, so the left side of our defence is a problem area at the moment.

23 Aug 2017 21:55:22
I'd work hard for 50k a Wk!

23 Aug 2017 21:56:48
What how many times does he get pulled out of position in a game way to many times.

23 Aug 2017 21:56:50
Have anyone seen Kyle Walker play these days. He is a £50 mill professional who can't cross lol!

23 Aug 2017 22:00:19
I think people just remember how bad he was been and automatically ignore how he has quite clearly improved recently. He's still no rock at the back, but he is becoming more positionally aware and has improved drastically at picking the right pass and timing his runs going forward. People will say he was out of position for the first goal against us tonight, but careless play from Lovren led to that whilst Moreno was on his way toward, there's no reason why he should expect Lovren to play such an awful pass. Add into that Lovren lost the aerial battle for the second goal against us I think he has been more of a liability recently than Moreno has been. Would rather see Lovren replaced as at least Moreno is showing visible improvement. Lovren seems to be turning the odd mistake into weekly screw ups. Shame, cus when he's got his heads screwed on he's pretty solid.

23 Aug 2017 22:02:07
Who said he was "amazing " Danielb2103? Certainly not me. I just said he's worked hard to get back into the team. It's like some fans want players to fail.

23 Aug 2017 22:02:24
Moreno was good today cos he was not required cos technically, we had one of the midfield 3 covering for him (which was the plan, I think) . He did what he had to do and caused them probs offensively. If you are looking for him to shut down a winger then, I would not hold my breathe for any of that. BTW, TAA was out of position a bit too but like Moreno, the midfield made it a duty to cover for the FB's.

23 Aug 2017 22:03:58
Ok who else should we rubbish now?

23 Aug 2017 22:17:34
I'm just really happy with the win personally. There are still questions to be asked of certain players but I'm not entertaining that tonight. Great win. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow. 😎.

23 Aug 2017 21:37:26
Man of the match? Firmino! Pure class, played the "false nine" position perfectly. Great team effort lads Y. N. W. A.

Believable11 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 21:43:01
He was outstanding tonight.

23 Aug 2017 22:03:43
If you cannot see how important Bobbie is in our system as the striker esp. in that first half alone, then I cannot help you.

23 Aug 2017 21:36:46
Firmino different class 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

Believable12 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 21:56:37

Well done Liverpool.

23 Aug 2017 21:34:55
Great performance - loved every minute of it!

As an added positive I will now get to go to my first champions league game at Anfield 👍🏼 Win - win

We've been sensational going forward. With that being said, question marks still remain over Lovren. As a pairing, him and Moreno don't work.

Moreno was good tonight but he needs a LCB next to him to cover for his inadequacies - not compound them!

The signing of a CDM would still be my preference too - Krykowiak on a loan to buy, anyone?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 21:41:13
Great performance and result but sorry Moreno was terrible. Like a headless chicken with ADHD.

23 Aug 2017 21:11:32
Firmino has been unreal, making such a nuisance of himself.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

23 Aug 2017 21:32:02
Mane is worth £150m.
£10m per year over 10 years plus the rest made up of ludicrous amounts of bonus payments.

23 Aug 2017 21:58:07
Mane is superb but suarez is great but mane could be if he keeps this form going. How long b4 Barcelona want him?

23 Aug 2017 21:22:05
Can we have him by the weekend?

23 Aug 2017 20:43:22
That should be that and into the group stages proper good 1st half offensive display all round but decision making still in question with Mings and Lovern especially. Mings distribution is the worst I've ever seen from a keeper gives his players hopeless balls which immediately put that player under pressure and us on the back foot . Lovern yet again does not know when it's the right time to pass the ball and when to put your foot through it at fault for the goal yet again! Offensively we are as always superb but as we all know defensively as a unit we are a disaster waiting to happen .

Believable3 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 21:11:27
Amazing display of football, get Can's contract signed!

Mings. hmmm, we need a better keeper.

23 Aug 2017 21:21:51
What did I just say.!

23 Aug 2017 20:42:21
You'll probably all slate me for this but where is this famous anfield atmosphere?! A part from the first 10 minutes it's like watching them play in a museum! We're playing some brilliant attacking football and the atmosphere just seems flat! It might be different being there live but watching on TV it seems dead! Anfield should be bouncing!

Fantastic attacking performance so far! 3rd goal was pure class! Questionable defensively again though, for me Lovern and Moreno are the weak links in the team, although Moreno has been great going forward. More goals to come hopefully!

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - if it is the same live feed that Bein have got, the crowd volume was turned down partway through so that the commentary could be heard more clearly. It has made it sound terrible, no idea if it is anything like as bad at the ground, but it is impossible to judge from the TV pics tonight.}

23 Aug 2017 20:45:55
Same with the Celtic match on BT yesterday. Could hardly hear the fans after about 5 minutes of the game.

23 Aug 2017 22:10:24
Was watching on German TV too (pls, don't ask why) and the volume seemed to be turned down too as it seemed that there was no atmosphere at the ground either.

23 Aug 2017 22:13:30
That's what I hate about UCL coverage, the crowd volume is always turned down - at least in australia when UCL has always been either ESPN or BeIn. It's some shitty american thing.

23 Aug 2017 20:40:46
Can you imagine how good we'd be if our defence was as good as our attack?

Believable5 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 22:13:28

Moreno is slowly turning the time keep going lad and you will convert more and more on the way.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

23 Aug 2017 20:49:28
I think we should all get off his back, he'll be a player As he gets older.

23 Aug 2017 20:51:47
Exactly too many blinded fans listen to the media and don't actually watch a player perform.

23 Aug 2017 20:35:10
Klopp absolutely raced down the tunnel at half time, probably running to get Emre's contract to get him to sign it asap 😂😂😂.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

23 Aug 2017 20:34:38
Brilliant attacking football that half. Need to put this game to bed now and finish of the chances we get.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 20:11:18
Those people saying firmino should not play as a striker, do you see now the space he creates and the passes he plays! This first 20 mins he's been unplayable! "False 9" allowing mane and Salah and Emre Can to exploit spaces.

Before you all say but he could do that playing as a "10" there would be a striker being marked by a centre back filling the spaces that those players are running into!

Up the redmen!

Believable9 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 20:35:56
Yes! Firmino play is outstanding!

23 Aug 2017 20:36:10
Oh yeah cause strikers don't score or create goals at all lol.

23 Aug 2017 20:37:41
Yes his movement is good. All he needs to add is more goals and he'll be fine.

23 Aug 2017 20:41:22
Who needs Phil when you have Bobby!

23 Aug 2017 20:43:48
Does he need to add goals? If we score three at a half time against good modern playing side. others are scoring when firmino is striker and that is fine by me!

23 Aug 2017 21:05:42
Here you go, he just scored :)

23 Aug 2017 22:17:42
He's amazing. But without that Pace the space he creates is pointless
The same as when teams sit it back.

When teams are open we tear them a new one. I thought you all knew that.

It's 80% of games where teams park the bus.

Firmino as ten salah and mane on wins and a striker up front is the way to go.

23 Aug 2017 23:25:48
Of course he needs to add more goals. Not every team is going to play a high line like tonight. When you've in front of 2 lines of 4 Luke many lower teams did last year that's when he needs to shine. For our middle man in the front 3 he needs to score more.

23 Aug 2017 20:11:07

But the left side of our defence is still pants.

23 Aug 2017 20:38:46
Moreno has been class what game are you watching?

23 Aug 2017 20:38:46
Seems that's where all their chances are coming from. Moreno is really trying hard. He's done well going forward but defensively.

23 Aug 2017 20:43:33
The game where they scored from our left channel the first time they tried to play their way in there?

23 Aug 2017 20:44:45
And to be perfectly straight I'm looking more at Lovren today rather than Moreno. But they don't do each other any favours.

23 Aug 2017 20:48:59
Give the lad a break unreal the way he can do no right in some eyes.

23 Aug 2017 20:04:54
If anyone Can, Can can 😁.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

23 Aug 2017 19:50:11
RedOne, that's a really offensive post. Moreno is an LFC player wearing the LFC shirt. That's enough to demand that we support him, regardless of what we think of his ability. Call yourself a fan - jeez!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 19:38:20
Hi Ed01
Can you tell me why we stick with Moreno, again, after getting Robinson?
What is that Klopp see's in him that no one else does?
Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - Robertson is not fit enough, the weekend took it out of him.}

23 Aug 2017 20:40:15
if Robertson is Spanish, i guess bias Liverpool English fans don't want him in the starting XI.

23 Aug 2017 19:15:25
Can't see why he dropped Robertson! Moreno is a liability! Rafa stuff that play a good game and then he drops the player!

Believable4 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - he is not fit enough, the lad hasn't had a proper preseason. I keep telling you all this, he is not ready for two games a week yet. He struggled to get through the game at the weekend.}

23 Aug 2017 19:32:47
Sorry I thought he was good to go! Cheers for the update ed01 👍🏼.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, he is not fully 100% ready yet. It will take a few weeks as he is behind and it is now impossible to do a preseason with him.}

23 Aug 2017 20:39:10
Ed1 are we doing any closed doors games for him to get a bit of match fitness? Remember we used to do that at some point but it didn’t last long iirc xD.

{Ed001's Note - there is no need, we have plenty of games for him to play. I expect him to start at the weekend.}

23 Aug 2017 19:10:03
Well it looks like we're going for it. Sane, Firmino and Salah the front three. Would have liked to see Robertson play LB but it gice Moreno another chance to shine I guess. No shocks anywhere else. TAA to start at RB.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 19:28:55
I wouldn't want sane in the team after his weekends performance.

23 Aug 2017 20:11:17
Well that's one good thing about
Supporting Liverpool, we can't
Park any busses with our defense. It's
Kill or be killed - entertaining stuff.

23 Aug 2017 19:08:44
Does anyone know a site or anything that can watch match tonight if you haven't got bt sport? Any help appreciated.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 19:27:29
Try a live stream on YouTube they usually work for me.

23 Aug 2017 19:33:14
Try Zorrostream mate - quality isn't always the best but fairly consistent and you can watch the game (the whole point of everything! ) . Cric free tv is also very consistent but tends to be slightly less good in terms of quality.

23 Aug 2017 19:33:51
Best site for live stream. navixsport.

Now let's hope I don't need to change my name for until next year 😂.

23 Aug 2017 20:18:50
It's on RTE Player too, but I'm not sure if that works outside Ireland.

A big win needed tonight, on way to ground shortly. Anny upper is were I will be cheering us on.

Ed001 will you be watching mate from home with a few jars?

I need to ask also mate, have you heard anything else within the club as regards to VVD? I remember you explaining the feeling within is that he will arrive. Its getting late on the window now that's all, I guess all the Pipco stuff has put everything else in hold.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I miss going the games! Though I don't miss my stupid superstitions of having to go to the City Centre to walk from there, rather than just walking from home, as we won once when I had to go on an errand before the match!

I don't drink mate, but I will be having lots of ginger tea as my throat gets very sore from swearing at the TV!

Last I heard is they are still hopeful on Saints deciding to let him go, though there has been no sign of Southampton softening their stance yet.}

23 Aug 2017 18:20:52
Lol. Cheers for reply mate. Not sure about the Ginger tea though lol. I have my superstitions also and i've tried everything.

Lets hope for a win mate and then hopefully get a few through the door before close of window.

Enjoy.

{Ed001's Note - ginger tea is great for a sore throat.}

Will definitely tune in for those.

23 Aug 2017 16:49:52
Good luck to the boys tonight I predict 2-1 . mane and firmino. lovren give a penalty away. He looks very dodgy in tackling someone in the box.
I have a feeling lfc are going to sign no one in which would be madness or that players are waiting to see if lfc qualify for champions league before signing.

Apparently any new bid will be turned down as we don't need the money,
So things could very well pick up in the next few days 🤞🏻.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 18:30:46
I know we don't need the money but do u honestly think us fans want him to stay now. He's starting to act like a spoilt child get the money and sign someone who wants to b here ( preferred not to be Brazilian)

23 Aug 2017 22:15:38
No reports that a new bid has actually been submitted.

Report seems to originate from ESPN which has a click bait headline - "Barcelona lodge fourth bid, now worth £138m for Philippe Coutinho" - but when you read the article it starts with "Barcelona are preparing a staggering fourth offer. "

So, they are the same as every other website in predicting that a new offer is "being prepared" - you know, fax machine warming up, chairman's assistant's typing fingers flexing etc.

So basically, some more non-news whilst trying to increase their impressions!

23 Aug 2017 16:19:24

23 Aug 2017 17:21:35
On a other lighter note, due to being too old, slow and over weight I'd like to announce my retirement from international football as well today.

23 Aug 2017 17:36:11
Ha ha I don't look like Klopp, we should probably sign you to replace Couts then 🤣.

23 Aug 2017 23:01:55
I feel I have let you all down, especially you MK!

I shall grab my coat and return once I find my dignity! 😞.

23 Aug 2017 16:16:33
Just had a little thought.

So apparently Naby Kieta's agent is looking for homes near Liverpool, meaning Kieta must be coming.

But he has the same agent as Sadio Mane, could the agent not just be helping Mane with a bit of house hunting? (mane has probs earnt the agent more than any other player on his books so he's gota keep him happy! )

Also thought clubs help out new players with accommodation anyway and a new player wouldn't have to worry about buying a new house straight away perhaps?

Sure i'll get some dislikes for this. Would really like Kieta to sign but not sure about this apparent house hunting thing.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 16:32:19
That's not a bad shout however Macca said he believes the house hunting is for Keita so I'm leaning more towards the Keita house hunting. But that really isn't a bad shout at all George!

23 Aug 2017 16:57:02
House hunting, complete b. s.

23 Aug 2017 17:36:58
Macca certainly has a good enough strike record to be taken seriously boys,

23 Aug 2017 22:16:23
I like that theory George! I guess we'll know in 8 days whether its right.

23 Aug 2017 16:02:38
So kondogbia has moved, strootman looks like moving and we show no interest, we can take it klopp does not see the need for a holding mid then. No wonder our defence struggles looks like it's all about the attack.

Believable0 Unbelievable8

23 Aug 2017 16:06:11
Neither of those are good enough, some of these suggestions are so poor.

23 Aug 2017 16:45:18

If two defensive midfielders aren't wanted by Klopp, does Klopp not like all defensive midfielders?

You failed on your logical deductions test there RNred.

23 Aug 2017 17:44:14
HX if Stootman is good enough for Juve he's good enough for us.

23 Aug 2017 18:50:24
Cobra like borini and aquilani were good enough for Roma but were useless for us? They aren't bad players but it doesn't work like that. Different league, different style, different mangers, different teams.

To good not to say it Ron.

23 Aug 2017 13:47:35
A question for Ed001, seeing as our defence is absolutely woeful, with regards to tonights match, with us holding a 1 goal advantage, would like to see us go and try and blow Hoffeinheim out of the water or try and play it safe and just somehow try to get through?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I think you should always play to win, not to just hold on for dear life. We have a better team than them, we should be able to take the game to them.}

23 Aug 2017 14:05:36
We simply don't know to play safe. We are entertainers and scores goals. Let's score goals!

23 Aug 2017 14:56:12
I think "absolutely woeful" and "somehow try to hang on" are a bit of over statements.
Our defence may not be brilliant, but it's not that bad. Drama queen.

23 Aug 2017 15:26:29
Wid u all the way wires let's not b negative ere we need positivity, an it comes from fans hope we scream the place down tonight give the players a big spring in there step.

23 Aug 2017 15:49:23
I am positive, I believe that we'll beat Hoffenheim, you can't argue that our defence is rubbish. Just look at the watford game or just look at last season games.

23 Aug 2017 15:56:44
Spot on, Wires. OP, dial it down a little bit. Our defence is not great but we did have the 6th best defence in the PL last season so we're not that hopeless as the media will have you believe. Are we annoying error-probe? Yes but let's just calm down a bit.

23 Aug 2017 16:01:59
I think it was 5th best defence in the league Bingo. It's more the manner of the goals we concede that makes our defence look bad. If we cut out the silly errors we'd be just fine.

23 Aug 2017 13:44:48
So the next offer for Coutinho will be £101m guaranteed. This is apparently what Liverpool wanted. Along with a load of maybe clauses being triggered. But would Liverpool be happy with the way the £101m is paid? It'll likely be staggered payments so that could be a stumbling block.

Anyway I think he'll probably leave now as he's willing to go to the lengths of feigning injuries and illnesses, refusing to train etc. But I think it's a good move for Liverpool if he does go. I also said last week that after today when you qualify for pot 3, it'll be a busy week of transfers.

My question is what would be satisfactory transfer business if Coutinho is sold? I mean the general consensus is Keita, VVD, OX and a sorry to use this word, but a "Marquee". Who would be the marquee signing? And would it be a similar position or a striker?

Believable3 Unbelievable7

23 Aug 2017 14:07:13
The question is not his value! The question remains is it worth selling him for any money now? Would the club find a replacement in 8 days now everyone knows we have the money?

23 Aug 2017 14:10:51
Insigne, closest thing to a like for like signing, quick, good passing range, superb free kick taker and can pick a pass as well as being hard to knock off of the ball.

23 Aug 2017 14:13:19
VVD (or alternate), and Keita (or Kovacic) and then yes we can afford to let him go as overall it'll be a good window even if I still hope he stays.

23 Aug 2017 14:16:18
I'm sure the club are working very hard behind the scenes WCD. If he goes there will be sufficient strengthening. And what would he be like as a player if he's forced to stay? His confidence could be shattered. He may get treated differently by other players in the dressing room. Like Ronaldo I think sometimes you have to let them go if the money is right.

23 Aug 2017 14:18:14
If Coutinho is sold (which 175 million dollars is a lot of money so I'd say it's a definite possibility FSG accept) then I would expect a replacement for his position (Meyer, Seri or Kovacic if we're stumping up cash -- Meyer would be my pick, btw -- and VVD or Keita if possible. Ox wouldn't be a bad shout but it might be better to wait for him to run his contract out as its not a position we need while Can, Wiz and Milner are still on the books (not to mention Grujic) . Personally, I still feel letting Coutinho go without a clear replacement available (Lallana being out as well) is a bad decision but I can't moan about it if he's being sold for nearly twice as much money as Suarez was. Reinvesting it in the squad can't be done if the players aren't available (Luan has ownership issues, Keita and VVD's clubs don't want to sell, Seri doesn't like the cold, Kovacic is expensive) . There's really no excellent way out of this. only a best of the worst scenario.

23 Aug 2017 14:30:25
Well what are the real chances to land any of those names?
Real would ask for insane money for Kovacic ( they would need to find a replacement )
Keita - Well we know what's going on
Meyer - He is not an experienced candidate to fill Coutinho boots.
Insigne - The most appropriate. Napoli would squeeze the mill and blood out of us!

And what about the time to settle in for these names!

23 Aug 2017 14:54:04
WCD - I don't look at it that way. I look at it as Saturday's match-day squad with Keita, VVD, Lallana, Clyne, Ox and potentially a marquee signing added to it. Or last season's match-day squad with Salah, Robertson, Sturridge, Keita, VVD, Ox and potentially a star name added.

23 Aug 2017 15:13:28
Really Sydney? VVD, Ox, Keita and another star name just because Coutinho leaves?
Here's how it is going to pan out:
Coutinho stays
VVD signs
Keita stays at RBL
Ox goes to Chelsea.

23 Aug 2017 15:16:19
Got to laugh at Guillem Balague's back tracking. Sometimes it's best to just keep an open mind when the transfer window is still open. Tweeting saying Barcelona concede defeat bla bla is just dumb. It's like he's their puppet.

23 Aug 2017 15:59:03
A good move for the club would be to keep hold of Coutinho. There's a reason Barcelona are willing to spend a fortune on him and that's because he is a world class player approaching his prime. If we want to win trophies we must keep our best players, not sell them and buy young players with potential who will take years to reach the level of Coutinho. Unless we are happy fighting for fourth spot every season of course. It seems to me like some fans don't care who leaves the club as long as we buy buy buy.

23 Aug 2017 16:01:37
I am baffled as to why people are mentioning replacements that clearly we won't get. VVD, Keita, Insigne, Meyer, and Kova will NOT happen cos a) no one will sell their best players to us with 8 days left in the window and b) they will shiv us for all the money we have.

For me, Barcelona can bid till they are blue in the face. Cou has already back-tracked via his camp and cos Barcelona lost Seri, they now want to bid again? If they are incompetent, that is not our problem. If we sell, we will regret it, big time and I don't think we will anyway. Barcelona should leave us alone and stop stalking us and our players cos this is becoming creepy.

23 Aug 2017 16:32:13
BR, It's a simple case of a club wanting to buy a player and that player wanting to join that club.

Stop listening to Balague as the guy is merely guessing. Listen to the editors. Seri this, Seri that.

There was always going to be a 4th bid. Seri may have been a bluff, although probably will sign eventually.

Seri an alternative, using the media to say deal almost done (Balague puppet), saying deal for Coutinho taken off the table. All tactics to try and force Liverpool to consider selling as they know keeping an unhappy player isn't feasible.

23 Aug 2017 13:05:10
So I'm currently lying in a hospital bed with a broken tibia, I can't go to the match tonight because of it, and I'm bored out my brains.

So I just wanted to ask everyone their score predictions for tonight's game. Personally, I'm going for 2-0 to us, Salah to score both.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 13:08:24
Good luck with the recovery mate!

I'm going for a 2-1 with Bobby and Mane scoring.

23 Aug 2017 13:11:15
We don't do easy so I'm going to say 2-2.

23 Aug 2017 13:15:26
A tight affair, Mane with the only goal.

23 Aug 2017 13:33:06
My prediction is we go through after one or two scares, we score in the dying seconds of the match to finally put it to bed, you will be so excited by this you will forget your current predicament, just out of bed and break your other leg 😬🤕.

23 Aug 2017 13:33:20
3-0 Mane hatrick and solid at the back.

23 Aug 2017 13:40:10
2-1. Lovren scores at both ends and Mane with the winner.

23 Aug 2017 13:43:10
Thank you smplfc and Mikey, I don't think there's much chance of that happening though mate don't worry😂.

23 Aug 2017 13:46:02
Wouldn't surprise me IB.

23 Aug 2017 13:47:16
Think we'll sweep them aside.
3-0 for me.

23 Aug 2017 14:13:57
2-1 with Salah and Firmino scoring.

23 Aug 2017 14:17:16
8-0 with coutinho signing a new 5 year deal on a small table in the middle of the pitch at half time.

23 Aug 2017 15:25:36
Honestly though, I'm going for 1-1.

23 Aug 2017 15:44:38
Lose 2-1 on the night, then lose to the Germans on penalties : ( dreamt it last night.

23 Aug 2017 15:57:06
1-1 and Liverpool to survive a late scare.

23 Aug 2017 15:58:09
1 - 0 Bobby with the goal.

23 Aug 2017 12:48:43
Long time reader, 1st time poster. I was just wondering, apart from the Eds and Macca, has anyone on here genuinely predicted a transfer that the rest of us were unaware off? Thanks.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 13:35:01
I think square tomato might have?
I know Waro used to get team reports as well before anyone else.
I used to get little snippets about the club but that's dried up.
The rest of us are here for the banter.

23 Aug 2017 13:58:29
I personally rate Nevada for info relating to Spanish clubs/ players and The Real AG for info on the academy. Chiefscout seems genuine too and tends to get info on the singing of younger players from my memory. Square Tomato is a good insider on the squad morale and players leaving as he knows Joe Gomez. Ed001 gets decent info out of LFC, as does Macca, but Ed002 must be some kind of super agent because he knows everything!

The real god of rumours though is Alansbarnet 😂 he has got it absolutely spot on all 4 times we have signed Keita this summer. I just wish we'd stop selling him back to RBL the next day. Must be some laundering going on there.

23 Aug 2017 14:11:59
Nabby is on Location, Location, Location tonight MK.

23 Aug 2017 14:22:01
And Coutinho is on
Place in the Sun Mr Dennis.

23 Aug 2017 12:13:31
I concur with you Pegleg here. I love Ed2s impact on these pages but sometimes it irritates me to see him constantly shooting us down when it comes to others its business as usual, I see as double standards, just say.

Believable10 Unbelievable8

{Ed002's Note - There are no double standards - clearly you don't understand about the unprofessionalism and illegal activities from Liverpool and Klopp. Do you need it explaining again about the warnings the club has had from other sides who object to their players being tapped up. The ban Liverpool is already serving?, The screwing up of a 12 year old boys career? The lies to the authorities? The systained illegal dealings with players? Idiots like you seem to think it OK. The rest of the football world don't fortunately.}

23 Aug 2017 12:42:12
oh stop it will you. what is the problem if he even shoots us down. he engages with us, we are blatant fools and are shot down by him because we know nothing. other pages don't get that luxury.
How many truly ITK people do you know? Ed 002 calls it weeks before on here. if anything show a little gratitude man.

and i understand your love for the club but do not let it blind you club has been wrong at various levels.
Just enjoy the football my friend and show respect all around.

23 Aug 2017 13:09:51
It must make you feel so weary to read this yet again eds, how do you cope?

23 Aug 2017 13:45:01
Unfortunately ED002 is bang on. We're an embarrassment and have been for a while, just complete incompetence and looking likely we'll miss out on our main targets as a result. Not only that! We have no credible quality plan B, we are still poor at the back and we could lose our best player. So what should be our 'kick on' season challenging on all fronts could be a complete stinker due to incompetence and no plan B. So frustrating.

23 Aug 2017 13:52:26
Agree with you AK. We are truly lucky to have someone in ed02 who is itk and doesn't beat about the bush. Of course he's going to be annoyed when he gets asked the same question 20 times a day when all you have to do is use the search. On top of that people still try and justify our behaviour in transfer dealing this summer.

23 Aug 2017 13:58:08
I actually agree with ed02 about our conduct being embarrassing, and I feel if we hadn't messed our primary targets up so badly by being so unprofessional I think coutinho would of been sold. Also the sad part is that even more embarrassing is we have no other targets to go for so are clutching at straws hoping we still get them. I personally can't see how the club will save face if coutinho is allowed to go and we don't get a quality replacement with the lack of quality in our squad. As much as people don't like what ronnie whelan has said he's spot on about our transfers or lack of. Until something changes with how we conduct ourselves dealing with other clubs and find some decent scouts who find gems like Southampton and Leicester do we'll never challenge, even spurs are ahead of us now.

23 Aug 2017 14:16:41
Ed002, calls it honestly without any partisan sentiment, which is fair enough in my opinion. Plus he's got a savagely brilliant sense of humour. Personally, I don't take any issue with his comments as they can all be justified.

23 Aug 2017 15:09:41
People would have an easier time not taking things to heart and accepting people for who they are, i love the info the eds bring, im a fan of the epl in general and if you ever check other eds rumour sites the overall temprament of responses are same the same not sure eds hate teams but i wouldn't be overly jovial answering the same questions over and over again to some fans who are just ungrateful, 2 teams fans have lost eds002's i do not want the same thing for us. Thanks for all your time eds i and many of us appreciate it.

23 Aug 2017 15:11:43
Ed 002 actually has a soft spot for Liverpool believe it or not and quietly supports them.

23 Aug 2017 15:25:20
Ed 001 and 002 I love you and your word is gospel for me.

23 Aug 2017 15:56:15
In my opinion Liverpool FC needs to take a long hard look in the mirror. We used to set the standards with the way we conducted all our business but we have fallen a long way in this respect.

The club needs to swalllow its pride and learn from the way other clubs operate these days and I include the likes of Chelsea in that generalisation.

23 Aug 2017 16:05:37
OP, if you are going to continue to ask questions about a well-documented and resolved issues, in a bid to deflect and shift the blame from LFC to "insert excuse here" then, you deserve the response you get cos I am sure you have read many of Ed02's responses on this issue and our fans inability to accept the club's blame and utter incompetence on this issue.

23 Aug 2017 12:29:59
I think it's just the way your message is interpreted Ed. The amount of times my ex missus takes my messages the wrong way is unbelievable. A message can be read many different ways. I find using a smiley face here and there makes a difference. 😀.

23 Aug 2017 19:07:17
Don't ask questions from the eds if you do t like the answers. Grow a set of balls and deal with it.

23 Aug 2017 11:35:39
I used to like Barcelona, but this has now dragged on for too long, and the timing and dust they're creating is just unbelievable. I'm thousands of miles away, and I feel unsettled by all of these, so you must be iron-clad if you're Countinho and others directly in the eye of the storm if you're pretending not to be unsettled!

Believable10 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 11:51:48
I bet Southampton fans feel the same about Liverpool 😁.

23 Aug 2017 11:51:48
I bet Southampton fans feel the same about Liverpool 😁.

23 Aug 2017 13:03:18
So true it was posted twice.

23 Aug 2017 13:36:42
Barcelona are well known in Spain for underhand tactics according to my friend in Bilbao. They'd much prefer to sell to Real Madrid or anyone else.
But this is all a bit rich as we are deploying the same tactics ourselves. When it potentially saves several million on transfer fees morals can unfortunately be thrown out of the window.
We can't cry over it until we clean up our own act first. Then we can get back to doing what we do best - complaining.

23 Aug 2017 16:08:28
Every club like to muscle the smaller ones so nothing is new there. Barcelona like us, are very arrogant and they can be cos they have been successful at doing it in the past so why not keep doing it esp. when we have turned the player's head and turned him against his club. Now, they are sad cos they are not getting their way and they are now pouting like a cry-baby who did not get his favorite toy. Cou is not for sale and that is that.

23 Aug 2017 11:30:46
I keep seeing post about how this is the worst transfer window or this is a rubbish transfer window etc. etc. And here I'm just happy to see Liverpool play after the last season ended.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

23 Aug 2017 12:37:22
They just need to get rid of Coutinho now accept the money they are offering let him have his dream move (whatever the liar) then get a few targets in b4 the end of this transfer window otherwise we are just the same as last season if not we will b worse.

23 Aug 2017 16:12:15
Why should we get rid of Cou, Fowler? Cos he whined or cos Barcelona are desperate? What is the use of the money if you can't replace him cos no one will sell us their best players 8 days before the TW ends w/ o milking us dry esp. for an average player? If we sell him now, won't we be worse than las t season esp. wiht no adequate replacement out there right now? Did you think about all that?
We don't even know the structure of the bid and FSG have said he is not for sale so right now, he is staying and that is that.

23 Aug 2017 10:56:17
With only a short amount of time left in the transfer window I think we're still short 3 players especially if big Phil goes I'd love to see a cb come in and with the vvd deal looking unlikely I'd love us to test Spurs resolve with a bid for alderwield as it's looking like he won't sign a new contract I'd also like a cm either keita or kovacic and then maybe a player like insigne or Brandt I know I'm dreaming but we're aloud dream aren't we and on a final point best of luck to the lads tonight.

Believable3 Unbelievable6

23 Aug 2017 11:34:50
We need atleast one CB and a CM. Also need a lot of drills in set piece defending.

23 Aug 2017 11:22:09
Alderwireld be a great signing and probly a lot cheaper than vvd. I think we need some cover for the wings aswell can't rely on mane and salah every game especially with the amount of games we will have this season. Think keita balde would be a good signing and like you say kovacic would be a great addition.

23 Aug 2017 11:53:23
Alderweireld would not be a lot cheaper than VVD, Daniel Levy is the same man who robbed City of £50m for Kyle Walker, I can only imagine what he'd want for Spurs' best defender.

23 Aug 2017 11:54:57
Leeboy they sold walker for 50 mil and Toby is a better playes. Levy would not let him go unless it was a lot more than that' so I fail to see how's it's a cheaper option.

23 Aug 2017 11:55:43
Yeah how would Alderweireld be cheaper? He'd cost a ridiculous fee but, unlike Walker, would at least be worth it (relatively speaking) .

23 Aug 2017 13:42:19
I'd happily see us pay 60m+ for Alderweireld.

23 Aug 2017 16:13:49
Good grief! If you think Alderweireld (who is much better than VVD) is cheaper than VVD then I fear for you.

23 Aug 2017 10:49:42
Coutinhos been working on this for a year, he clearly doesn't want to play for us we aren't southampton we shouldn't force players to pull on the shirt, im not happy with the timing at all but the club knew what he was doing and yes the neymar thing caused Barcelona to bid at a an unfortunate time but im over Phil and his antics, we are in all comps and don't have enough players now what's one less going to do, we messed up our own transfer dealings, and others won't sell its all a bit rubbish really but im still a red no matter what but we are reaping what we've sewn.

Believable7 Unbelievable11

23 Aug 2017 11:24:17
Coutinho wanted to go and the Neymar thing only upped his price. They would come regardless with a significantly lower offer and Coutinho would have still handed a TR. the board is at fault not planning his departure or convincing him to stay!

23 Aug 2017 12:59:12
The board is at fault?
They gave him a juicy pay rise 7 months ago no?
What would you have them do?

23 Aug 2017 14:48:46
But then you'd be back on here slating the club for accepting 80mill staggered over 5 years = 16mill up front (if all reports are correct)

23 Aug 2017 14:49:35
Build a statue for him near shankly's own and give him half of the club share also including a pack of doughnut and nivea men.

23 Aug 2017 16:21:13
harry, you talking crap. Who signed the 5 year deal 6 months ago? Cou. Who took the bonus and raise that came with the new deal as well as the agent fee? Cou and his agent. Did FSG force them to do that? No.

Barca and his agent sold him damaged goods and even they don't wanna pay what is required to get him cos they know that he came to them, not the other way around so why should we accept the pathetic bid from there? Cos Cou cried about it after taking all the money associated with the new contract? Thank goodness you don't run the club.

23 Aug 2017 10:37:12
Did I just read this right on Sky? Apparently Barcelona are struggling to sign Dembele because they think Klopp is interfering!

Does that mean;
1) we are trying to line up Dembele to replace couts perhaps? Or
2) Barcelona are willing to try anything to make Liverpool/ Klopp look bad to get Couts?

Either that or it's terrible journalism!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any intereference in the potential transfer of Dembele, and if there were it would be show stiopping for Klopp on a personal basis. (1) Liverpool has no interest in Ousmane Dembele. (2) Barcelona don't need to do anything to get Liverpool and Klopp to look bad.

I would suggest it would be more likely that a recent note from Dortmund that they would ensure that Klopp's home which is let to Dembele is in the condition it should be would be issue here.}

23 Aug 2017 12:05:01
I heard Klopp had let himself in with his spare key and was leaving post it notes all over the house saying "i'd love to have you at LFC"

23 Aug 2017 12:47:23
🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's why I love this site. Thanks Ed002 and for the splendid work you do. I know some of us cheese you off at times but we love you 😘.

23 Aug 2017 10:35:09
Hi ed's,

i don't have a question or a dog that knows a guy who once walked past VVD.

but this window has me feeling like a game of monopoly when it gets to a point where all the cards are brought up and for the game to continue people have to trade, but they all know in the long run it will ruin them so everyone refuses to trade with each other.

Just some light hearted analogy to lighten the mood.

He is the best we've been linked with all summer. Leader, reads the game well, strong in the air, good on the ball etc.

He is a little bit slower than he once was but still quicker than Matip or Klavan.

23 Aug 2017 16:23:32
MK, not in a million years. If you think Howedes is quicker than Matip then, I fear for you. He's slower than Harry MacGuire. Even Klavan has more pace than Howedes. No thanks.

23 Aug 2017 09:10:25
Good morning everyone, big night tonight I really hope the defensive side of our game holds out tonight, get the win and we might just see a flurry of activity this transfer window. Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 10:26:52
I hope we play the way we are deadly at playing and that is high press offensive football. Defending or defensive style is not our cup of tea and this would backfire. Score an early goal and make it impossible for them to chase. We can't defend, so what's the point in setting up for it?

23 Aug 2017 11:20:43
I never said to set up defensive, I said I hope that side of our game holds out. Everyone knows how we play going forward. Hoffenheim are no slouches and are more than capable of taking our defence to the cleaners. Have a great day :)

23 Aug 2017 13:51:58
I don't mind an offensive game but don't want to see a high press with this team. Last time they simply either played it around our forwards/ midfield via the wingbacks, or else pushed an extra body forward, double teamed one of our fullbacks and then banged it straight over Hendo and co.

23 Aug 2017 16:24:57
To be fair we set up to counter and let hoffenheim have possession and I think it was the right decision for us in Germany. Seeing as they have to put two by us I could easily see us playing the same style at home perhaps with a bit more confidence in the final third.

23 Aug 2017 06:19:29
Eds when a source quotes/ reports "Club xxx" is preparing a bid for "player y" . what exactly does that entail?

I imagine some bean counters in a back room piling coins into swag bags.?

Surely compiling of a wordy legal offer is a frivolous activity if a deal in principle is not agreed?

{Ed002's Note - It means nothing Triangle.}

23 Aug 2017 10:00:48
so it's a rubbish transfer window (so far) . We tied for VVDi, Southampton don't want to sell. We tried for Kiera his club don't want to sell, that is the bottom line no matter what went on. We are the same with PC. So what should we do run around buying players who are little or no improvement on what we have, I don't think so. We have to rely on the people in the club who are responsible for these matters, and if they fail us and our developement of young players is not good enough, the we will struggle. We have for quite some time bought many players who didn't fit, I don't think we should be buying for buying sake.

23 Aug 2017 15:07:21
exactly, i hope we don't buy just for the sake of buying which a lot of posters on here are eluding to with comments like "we've bought noone" (my opinion) buying for the sake of buying has us ending up with overpaid crap we can't get rid of a year later.

23 Aug 2017 09:54:08
Getting away from the transfer saga I want to remind people we got a massive game tonight? If you at home supporting or at the game let's make some noise for the red men tonight. Hoffenheim are no pushovers and will be an extremely difficult game tonight, they a good side with excellent dead ball situations so im expecting a nervy atmosphere tonight. let's get behind them and drag lfc back to where they belong. THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

23 Aug 2017 09:41:34
People need to remember how we got to fourth place last season. It was with the help of one PipCo. He's been told he's not being sold at any price so why not just believe the club. Barcelona may come back with a bigger bid with more cash up front but me personally I'd rather have the player. He's brilliant and the more n more we sell our stars the further away from a title, cup etc we will get. We will be seen as a "selling club" because we haven't won anything in ages so it becomes a vicious circle.
It's time to hold these players to their contracts. Even it means reintegration back into the squad for him.
That goes for VVD and Southampton. They should do the same. He's got a long contract so they should hold him to it. Keita is different as he only has a year to run on his so I think bidding for him is a wise move. Surely there's other defenders we can target.

23 Aug 2017 11:01:30
It's Mel C from the Spice Girls.

23 Aug 2017 13:56:15
That's brave of you Robin. not many on this site would turn down Melissa.

23 Aug 2017 08:36:11

Reds for a good win tonight.

Ed1, are Barcelona deliberately bidding for Coutinho on match days? If so, why? Surely that's just more likely to piss the club off?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - how would I know that? I very much doubt they would want to do anything unless it is in their interests to do so.}

23 Aug 2017 08:37:13
Sorry mate, just assumed you'd maybe have inside knowledge on their bidding tactics.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, Barca are run by a group who are elected on a regular basis. Each group has their own ideas and so it really comes down to the current president who is, quite frankly, a bit of a divvy without a clue what he is doing. So it is anyone's guess.}

23 Aug 2017 10:09:50
It's very disruptive. All the focus on Couts and not the match, annoying really.

23 Aug 2017 10:24:46
We're so lucky that we haven't any elected divvies looking after our transfer business!
Ourz are carefully selected from the highest echelons of ths Keystone cops.

23 Aug 2017 11:30:09
Seems to me that Barcelona is in a state of complete disarray. Our problems seem to be miniscule compared to theirs. If there's a 4th bid, then it reeks of nothing but desperation. The Eds will correct me if I am wrong, but 4 bids in a short span of 2 months is unheard of. (But I'm not naive, and know that Barcelona would not be bidding without some hope or enticement) . An ex-president who's in jail, a president who has no clue, the future best player jumping ship and the current best player continuing to have undue say on and off the pitch. A royal mess. Our situation looks completely bright in comparison.

23 Aug 2017 08:00:52
It seems to me that we need to get this CL qualifier out of the way tonight (with us qualifying of course) before we start the process of formally bidding for targets. If we have been in contact with the likes of VVD and Keita, I believe these players coming to the club wholly depends on us reaching the Champions League proper.

Believable5 Unbelievable6

23 Aug 2017 08:08:26
What part of "their respective clubs do not want to sell" is so hard to take on board?

23 Aug 2017 08:25:23
So We have already qualified and this is a two legged knock out before a group stage! You do realize the difference between 4th place and 5th place! Don't you? How did we sign Salah!

23 Aug 2017 08:42:53
Of course "the respective clubs do not want to sell". These are good players we are talking about. In the same way Liverpool do not want to sell Coutinho.

This is the crucial point. Each club, whether through historical success, reputation and financial strength fall naturally into a hierarchical pyramid. Real Madrid and Barcelona are at the top of the pyramid with the other large clubs in Europe just underneath them. The best players obviously want to play for the top clubs.

As a result, clubs below them have to issue statements like this for their coveted players to show intent and commitment, in short to appease their own fans. These statements I believe are merely public relation tools. It makes the club appear steadfast and resolute in the face of a situation they can't really control.

It goes without saying that it also drives the price up. Just simple economics. I believe most of the smaller clubs are resigned to the fact that eventually their best players will move on to bigger better things and these statements are all that they have, when the situation arises.

23 Aug 2017 08:44:16
Salah may have just been happy to sign for Liverpool in any case.

{Ed001's Note - Salah certainly was, he has always wanted to play for us.}

23 Aug 2017 08:50:54
We haven't qualified, that's why we're playing a qualifying playoff.

23 Aug 2017 09:58:54
WCD- It's a qualifier so no we haven't qualified yet.

23 Aug 2017 09:04:51
only in response to your statement harry, not to the topic, you do realize the difference between 1st to 3rd place and 4th place, in relation to UCL, don't you?

23 Aug 2017 10:23:58
Well I do Kaizer
They don't get to play this two legged knock out games! But could certainly get knocked out by December!

23 Aug 2017 11:03:59
You make no sense whatsoever.

23 Aug 2017 11:12:13
It's a fair point. Liverpool could easily be knocked out of the competition by Christmas, however by qualifying tonight, they are guaranteed at least six more high profile games. This I believe is vitally important for the club. The sponsorship and worldwide exposure is so much greater in the group stages. From a player's point of view, these are the nights where they can really make a name for themselves. From a fan's point of view it's always good to see Liverpool being drawn in the same group as one of the big clubs in Europe which is highly likely. And, I don't doubt with this team that we can compete with these clubs.

The cynic in me knows that the Liverpool brand, (a term I'm not fond of but have to accept) is only strengthened when they are in the hat for the group stages. That is why tonight is so important.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool will be in Pot 3 and will be drawn with two name sides plus one from pot four.

So from Pot 1: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Shakhtar Donetsk, Monaco, Spartak Moscow, Benfica.
From Pot 2: Porto, Barcelona, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain.
From Pot 4: Celtic, Maribor, CSKA Moscow or Young Boys, Copenhagen or Qarabaq, Sporting Lisbon or Steaua Bucharest, APOEL Nicosia or Slavia Prague, Feyenoord, RB Leipzig

No doubt by tomorrow evening will be hearing "conspiracy", "group of death", "can Mane play against us for Bayern Munich" etc..}

23 Aug 2017 12:06:18
😱😱😱

Ed you just released the hounds, in regards that Bayern comment.

23 Aug 2017 12:12:26
Thanks Ed. Let's hope they can do the business tonight! Was in Liverpool town centre yesterday and the place had a real buzz about it with the first Hoffenheim fans arriving and having a beer. Scousers were as hospitable and good humoured as ever.

23 Aug 2017 13:03:52
Has to be Monaco, Barcelona and RBL if we get through.
#Fix #conspiracy.

23 Aug 2017 15:50:20
Harry, Unless we win tonight a) a big chunk of the fees for participating in the CL will not be paid to the club and b) the club will not have 6/ 8 group games which will be a huge disappointment for the club, the fans and the players (current and potential) .

You do know the difference between finishing top 3 and 4th right?

23 Aug 2017 07:46:34
I just want to say I've just joined but followed this site for years I've heard so. e cracking rumours and stories and some shockers. but I want to say on this season alone I want to say I'm embarrassed of our club I'm not fickle and expect money spent but last season was blamed on lack squad. ignore Barcelona situation why hasn't Liverpool one of the biggest clubs in the world prepared for this. we have money klopp knows his targets why are we waiting till last minute . we haven't been the most successful club lately but we are still Liverpool get all our business done players signed stop this stupid foolish tapping and get the players klopp wants and worst comes to worse if he meaning coutinhio is leaving surely klopp can move forward. he is world class but in the bracket with the best. in my eyes do our business and then if he goes let him if not out squad is stronger but Liverpool comes first.

U need to look at urself saying u followed this site and never posted till now. It is u and other types of fans on here that's embarrassing to our great club.
we have a game tonight to take care of first. Then if its possible will will do what we can to sign who we need over the next week.
If we don't sign another player abet the coach full of lads i travel with every week won't bitch on like you.
you are the embarrassment here not the club.

23 Aug 2017 15:51:25
If the manager only wants to pursue deals for specific players and then he jeopardises those deals before dialogue begins you end up in our situation. There is little the board can do about it.

I remember Lord Howe's resignation speech which brought down Maggie Thatcher (his PM at the time) "It is rather like sending your opening batsmen to the crease only for them to find, the moment the first balls are bowled, that their bats have been broken before the game by the team captain". This is very similar in my opinion.

If Saints and RBL don't change their position then there are only 2 possibilities : the manager picks alternative targets or we don't sign anyone. It's simple logic.

23 Aug 2017 07:37:24

So a new bid has gone in for couts. When's the dead line for this one 7pm tonight, tomorrow or the 31st. 😂😂
On a serious note eds 1. Your a well respected Liverpool fan what's your opinion on this what do you think we should do. Sell him or keep him.
Sorry if this has been asked before.
As always thanks.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - for the right price, let him make his dream move.}

23 Aug 2017 07:34:39
The club would lose what little credibility it had by backing down now, especially after publicly stating he's not for sale at any price.

It would also send out the wrong singnals to the rest of the squad, U18's, 23's etc. Push hard enough and you'll get your way.

It's a dream move absolutely but he has been interested in the move for over a year and with this in mind, the contract should not have been signed in January.

Sorry I don't buy all this nonsense about him not thinking Barcelona wouldn't come in for him.

23 Aug 2017 07:50:52
Is this the right price though ed001 or will this be rejected and hold out for the £150m offer?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, there are too many factors involved fro me to know that without knowing any of those factors.}

23 Aug 2017 07:52:19
Thanks for the reply eds
Not getting into money to much but you think the right price has been offered yet.

{Ed001's Note - no idea sorry.}

23 Aug 2017 08:00:15
Every player has his price. The right price yes. The wrong price and three magic beans. No.

23 Aug 2017 08:04:18
Thanks mate.

23 Aug 2017 08:18:06
Ok ed, let him make his dream move, but then what? Who replaces him in the next week? It doesn't matter how much money we're offered, this deal has no upside unless a great replacement is realistically lined up, and we are yet to see any evidence of that.

{Ed001's Note - we have already replaced him from where he played last season, so you are talking about replacing him where he could potentially play.}

23 Aug 2017 08:28:57
Of course I am, but what difference does it make? Whether he was meant to play CM or AM, someone needs to fill the hole he leaves if he goes to Barcelona.

{Ed001's Note - because the hole from last year has already been filled. So there is no 'hole' to fill.}

23 Aug 2017 08:30:42
Definitely a midfielder needs to come in if Coutinho goes. We replaced the left winger Coutinho with Salah but Klopp wanted Coutinho in midfield for this season so a creative midfielder would be a suitable replacement now. Seems Real will let Kovacic move on at the right price so I say we give them and Southampton what they want for VVD and Kovacic before selling Coutinho to Barca.

23 Aug 2017 08:38:36
Eds its crazy too think we have replaced him but we still in same spot position as last year wid no cover for salah an mane an we know wat appened last year without them, surely we can't b stupid enough too make same mistake twice, an I haven't even mentioned defence yet which blatantly needs quality cover.

{Ed001's Note - but we aren't in the same position at all. That is incorrect. We now have two wingers, rather than one.}

23 Aug 2017 08:45:19
We have already seen Salah or Mane push over to the left. We havnt struggled to score goals so far, even without Coutinho.
The struggle against Palace was the amount of changes.

23 Aug 2017 10:14:12
Ed I think you're being pedantic. At the end of the day, we need players like him if we want to progress.

{Ed001's Note - I am not being pedantic. Everyone is being pathetic about it. We replaced him already, so what is the issue? We knew this situation could arise, hence the attempts to buy more midfielders. If he goes, he goes. If he stays and performs great. At the end of the day, it really is unimportant, he is just one player and it is a team game.}

23 Aug 2017 09:22:12
Come on ed mate I think he means that he was expected to play in the middle infront of 2 CM's pulling the strings taking our freekicks, Corners, play making and picking out passes on the wings, our go to man. We are all thinking/ panicking who does all these things if he moves mate as one thing us certain we don't have anyone else on the same level as him to play centrally. ?

23 Aug 2017 10:15:20
The plan was to inject creativity into midfield by virtue of Coutinho. If Coutinho leaves, a creative hole in midfield is left behind.

{Ed001's Note - how is there a hole? We managed last season without him there. We have managed so far this season without him there. You are speculating about a possibility there may be a gap that doesn't actually exist until it has been made for him.}

23 Aug 2017 10:25:12
So the Eds have been telling us all this time that Keita has nothing to do with Coutinho yet now you're implying that it does?

{Ed001's Note - what? No, now who is being pedantic. I was implying that the club would not need him in midfield either if they signed Keita.}

23 Aug 2017 10:27:13
And that's nonsense Ed, you must have a short memory because we didn't manage that well against the deep-lying defences. There was no one in midfield creative enough to help unlock defences, Coutinho was instead stuck out wide helpless.

How about the consideration we need a bigger squad for UCL? Assuming we qualify.

{Ed001's Note - nonsense? If you say so. No point you carry on with this I am bored now.}

23 Aug 2017 10:30:59
I think it basically comes down to the difference between Salah and Coutinho, with all due respect to Salah he isn't remotely as creative an influence on the team as Cout and is certainly not a direct replacement. It's like ripping the creative heart out of the team and replacing it with pace.

23 Aug 2017 10:44:12
I don't know why you get so narky ed, it's just a debate.

{Ed001's Note - it is not a debate, and I wasn't narky, just can't be arsed with someone trying to be an arse and put words in my mouth. You twist what I said to mean completely different things, so it is pointless. I can't be arsed with that.}

23 Aug 2017 10:45:28
You're basically saying that it's not a big deal losing the team's best player with a week left until the window closes.

{Ed002's Note - Team's need to make provisions and Liverpool has had more than a year to prepare for this potentially happening. Klopp should be well prepared. He has a liking for Oxlade-Chamberlin who he could bring in.}

23 Aug 2017 11:12:05
Lallana being injured doesn't help. He is the creative player to play in that midfield and WANTS to play for us! We do need one creative player in the midfield 3 in my opinion.

23 Aug 2017 15:54:59
If you're not being narky then you're just overreacting to what I said. I didn't put words in your mouth - it has been said all along that Keita is not a Coutinho replacement, hence why I questioned your statement that LFC trying to players like Keita has to do with Coutinho departing.

Yes it may be a team game, but the best teams have some of the best players to give them a competitive advantage. You're acting like it's not a big deal because he's not leaving a particular position threadbare, which is a completely wrong viewpoint.

23 Aug 2017 15:55:11
Yes Welsh, exactly. Lallana out, Coutinho off, who would we have in midfield that is creative? Grujic perhaps. Problem is he's a pretty unknown quantity.

23 Aug 2017 06:47:56
Morning all

Well i've woken this morning to reports that Barcelona have put another bid on for Pipco.

I wasnt totally convinced we had heard the last from them tbh, eds can you confirm the new offer at this stage please?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not totallt, only that one was expected.}

23 Aug 2017 06:58:51
Ok mate. I guess we wait and see what develops over the remaining days. We shouldn't accept now imo as we don't have a replacement lined up.

23 Aug 2017 07:07:07
Kloppsred You sure we don't, or maybe we already got the replacement in the squad. To me defensive reinforcement must still be you priority. We still produce chances and goals without Cou, but the rate of goals against won't change unless we act.

23 Aug 2017 07:03:59
Remaining days? 🙄🙄🙄.

23 Aug 2017 08:02:03
Smedegaard, the weekend was proof that we've got no one else in the squad that has Coutinho's ability to pick a killer pass.

23 Aug 2017 08:26:11
So we've never played a bad game with coutinho in the team then? Never struggled to break down defensive team with him in the team?
Sorry this is getting ridiculous, pipco isn't the messiah, the world will not end if he leaves.
Player we should be worried about leaving is mane. But even then tomorrow still happens, just with a different player.
Take the money and run.

23 Aug 2017 11:13:06
Our creative replacement is injured until December.

23 Aug 2017 11:46:59
All this without ever seeing little Phil play a full season in his proper position for Liverpool?

23 Aug 2017 06:42:18
If Coutinho wanted to go and was aware from an year. Why did we not say Barcelona a price and time-limit? I am not sure what do you gain dragging this to the final day?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

23 Aug 2017 06:58:02
That doesn't mean the club wanted to let him go or that Barcelona would play ball rather than try to under offer, delay to put pressure on to force the sale etc. I would have thought the nature of the last offer and the amount of stuff being thrown at the press shows they wouldn't have just gone ok there you go if LFC had quoted a date and price. Plus LFC did quote a price previously (to PSG) and that would appear to be dead and buried in the current market.

23 Aug 2017 07:06:10
Aren't the selling club that has the power over the buying club! Liverpool don't care what Barcelona thinks. If they come in between so and so date then Yes we could talk as we would need to find a replacement. Else sorry not welcomed! How many days have we got to find a replacement? 8 days!

23 Aug 2017 07:09:20
I don't think Barcelona did plan to lose Neymar this window, or this late in the window. I think they are about to panic.

23 Aug 2017 07:33:39
We can't defend, Neymar thing proved that actually the player and then the buying club if they have money and appeal, are the ones with the power. If you're Barcelona you have the ability to turn a player's head and that can create all sorts of situations that put the selling club on the back foot. Time is less of an issue to them and more of an ally. They will believe they can get someone else late in the day, they will know LFC will struggle to do that. They possibly have misread and believe we'd have to sign a direct replacement but it would seem they believe time suits them. Also they have the benefit of knowing their current squad would still guarantee ECL qualification in La Liga so they can afford to wait. Judging by previous issues they probably also believe (not unfairly) that they have better people handling transfers than LFC. Also if the club quoted a price to PSG last year they would have viewed that as willing to sell. Everything says they have the upper hand in pretty much any deal bar a few.

It just may happen in this case they've got it wrong and the club isn't willing to sell. Or maybe LFC board understand that to sign top players one of the first things to do is make a statement that says we aren't here to be bullied. Only thing to top that would be make a counter bid for Suarez.

23 Aug 2017 08:07:02
Fresht

There are only two reason they are repeatedly bidding in for Coutinho.

1. He is the best out there in that position.

2. They just can't find another similar player for less or more money outside.

23 Aug 2017 09:48:34
There will be no more signings by lfc this summer, this window has been well abd truly cocked up.

23 Aug 2017 10:45:33
I agree that it shows he is the best around I think it also shows that they believe he is unsettled enough to push through that move. It might be they are just in for a surprise here. I think they'd struggle to find someone as good as Coutinho this late but I think the lure of Barcelona means it will be easier for them than for us.

23 Aug 2017 06:24:48
Lets go there boys, qualify for Champions league, sell Couts, buy VVD and Keita and let's have a ball.

Believable8 Unbelievable6

23 Aug 2017 05:36:51
So, multiple media outlets are reporting yet another Barcelona bid for Coutinho. 100 million with 36 million in ad-ons. One or two have a slightly different figure. And the night before/ day of an important Champions League game. I wonder how different the whole picture is going to look this time next week?

23 Aug 2017 05:45:23
I swear, if Phil's injury isn't genuine he'd better hope we get through tonight. Otherwise I'd hang him out to dry.

23 Aug 2017 06:17:15
Even if genuine, he could have come out to refute .

23 Aug 2017 06:49:32
Apparently he's also ill now!
It's called spoilt bratitis.
Hopefully we will get through tonight but it'll no thanks to Coutinho.

23 Aug 2017 07:06:31
Itis is for swelling😂.

23 Aug 2017 07:03:54
Or maybe the injury/ illness is something the club has put together since his head is going to be all over the place and they want to cover him not playing. The club has medical staff who attend and the club is the one stating his condition. But hey let's just believe everything we read on BS spreading social media and press and assume someone who has been here 4 years (and been a model pro during that time), is actually a total scumbag. Why would anyone want to leave a club with such wonderful fans.

{Ed025's Note - he might just want to win things freshst..

23 Aug 2017 07:37:48
Ed025 I wouldn't blame him if that was the reason. We all move jobs for better prospects. Club is still a few players away from being consistent winners and has blown the last couple of chances so I can understand a player of his ability considering going to one of the top clubs in the world.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that mate..

23 Aug 2017 04:48:55
What we have to remember about the last two windows is we haven't actually sold anyone we wanted to keep, so every addition becomes a player to strengthen the squad which was already in pretty good shape.

Yes other sides have bought more, but arguably needed to with Man Utd a mess last year and then losing Ibra, City having an ageing squad and unconvincing last year, and Everton needed an overhaul but hardly buying in the types of players we'd want.

Let's hope for a couple more incomings to strengthen further (particularly in defence) but also try keep things in perspective when we complain about signings, particularly when we've tried but our first choices aren't for sale. A bit of patience, and quality over quantity will win out every time.

Believable3 Unbelievable7

23 Aug 2017 06:34:19
Everton have signed a quality Keeper, a CB who is improving year on year and one of the top scoring midfielders from the past few seasons. They are all positions we have been linked with, bar Kepler where Klopp says were sorted.
We need progression just as much as any of the other teams, but there is still a week left.

23 Aug 2017 07:02:32
Agree Andy, Keane and Pickford would get into our team imo.

{Ed025's Note - most of the everton side would nicky..

23 Aug 2017 07:12:33
Everton have signed a keeper on a par with the one LFC signed just over a year ago. People need to stop applying hindsight to say he is better Karius, he is at best on a par with the keeper we signed. The biggest issue here is defence and again there is no evidence Keane is good enough for a team aiming for top 3 every year. In fact such a team released him. Everton needed those players to progress from where they were and age profile in those positions. LFC needs a higher level to guarantee moving on from scraping top 4 and neither of those is a sure thing to do that. Panic buying to keep fans happy now will just become another stick for those same fans to use during the season to beat Klopp.

Easy Ed25.

I've been up since 5.30 am with my 3 year son ( I remember the days I could sleep in when one had a week off work ) but even my brain is not that cloudy ❤️❤️.

{Ed025's Note - put him in nursery nicky and go back to bed mate, your not thinking straight ..

23 Aug 2017 07:13:53
Pickford was crap against City. His kicks are worse than Mignolet and a I am a fan of Ed025!

{Ed025's Note - his kicking was a bit poor harry but dont compare him to coco the clown between your sticks mate..

23 Aug 2017 07:28:11
In keeping with many of the knee jerk posts on this site re the most of Everton players would get in our side post above. having watched mondays game I wouldn't touch Keane. He looked slow, overly rash at times and overly hesitant at others. Gave the ball away too much as well.
Pickford nearly cost his team a goal palming an easy save into the path of aguero.
Only player I'd take based on Monday would be Calvert-Lewis. Skilful, powerful, calm and great link up play. Negative of course was getting walker sent off with some play acting.
Not sure who the goal scoring midfielder Everton signed is but if it's klassen he didn't start and when he came on a 10 man Manchester City were over running the Everton midfield 🤷🏻‍♂️.

{Ed025's Note - we are a work in progress LTV..

23 Aug 2017 08:09:14
Never have been a fan of Pickford tbh. His kicking isn't great, he's a bit on the short side for a keeper and is quite easily dominated on crosses. He's a decent shot stopper and has good reactions, but that's about it for me.

23 Aug 2017 08:51:56
Let's get real, I wouldn't take any of the Everton team. Bang average, gylfi half decent and should do well, as we know he couldn't make the grade at a bigger club, now he's surrounded by mediocre players he will shine again. Rooney is looking ok, bound to have a couple of good games but will still fade. 8th for the blue noses this year and we will do the double over them.

23 Aug 2017 08:19:56
That bitter blue mob will like every other season fail, usual procedure and all that. 👍.

{Ed025's Note - your hoping there MR, and i tell you why...you are frightened to death of the mighty blue army coming good and being up there with the big boys, we are assembling a really good team while FSG sit counting their money like scrooge while the once mighty reds stagnate and will wither like an old prune...you are right to be afraid mate...be very afraid..

23 Aug 2017 04:17:14
I think this is it. Bye Coutinho.

23 Aug 2017 02:18:26
Ed1 if I may.

I'm certainly at peace with the unlikelihood of VVD coming, however, i'd be very interested to know your general opinion of the player. All this will he/ won't he has inflated (in my opinion) people's opinion of him, into some messiah that will solve all our defensive woes for us.

Is he really that good, or are there in your opinion obvious, potentially available alternatives out there that are better options we are having a look at?

Cheers!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - as I have said all along VVD is the perfect physical specimen for a footballer, technically excellent but mentally is very poor. Too laid back and strolls through games, leaving himself constantly out of position and not making the effort to get back.}

23 Aug 2017 06:19:56
Physically and technically excellent, but mentally poor. Well as long as he he is willing to adapt and listen to the coaches instruction, he has my vote.
I remember what was said about Mane, although i personally have issues with his style of play, he does get the job done.

{Ed001's Note - Mane's issue was not that kind of mental issue. It was things such as his tendency to not bother to try for his previous clubs, after his first season. He would then just pick and choose the games he showed up for. Also there was his refusal to play or train with the team at both Salzberg and Southampton in order to get the move he wanted. Obviously Liverpool fans only care when it is a player trying to get out of LFC, otherwise they seem to not give a toss because there are so many hypocrites out there.}

23 Aug 2017 06:49:15
Ed1 that’s one of my favorite things on here! (/ sarcasm) seeing people slating Couts for handing in a TR and not training or being available, yet love the "passion" to play for Liverpool the likes of Mane/ Keita/ VVD by doing the same thing 😂.

{Ed001's Note - amazing how they fail to see the double standards!}

23 Aug 2017 07:03:49
ED001, would you not be too fussed if we didn't sign VVD at this stage?

{Ed001's Note - I have never been fussed.}

23 Aug 2017 07:40:05
Ed001 is there any defender out there you firmly believe would be a key part in the team winning things and would be available?

{Ed001's Note - I think we should have gone firmer on Koulibaly. Not perfect by any means, but well suited to our system, he loves a high line.}

23 Aug 2017 08:21:32
I think VVD has more upside than Koulibaly, VVD's problem is fixable. Plus, playing in a compact defensive unit can only make you more susceptible to being laid back, because you expect a team mate to be there covering for you. On the other hand in LFC's defensive unit, one needs to be much more alert.

{Ed001's Note - Kouolibaly has more upside actually. It is much easier to improve technique than it is to change mentality. VVD has always been a stroller, that is not something you can fix easily. It is a personality trait, he is laid back, you can't just 'fix' that at all.}

23 Aug 2017 11:57:49
Thanks Ed1. Let's hope if CB is seen as a priority to the club, there are alternatives in the pipeline, regardless of VVD. And let's hope with VVD if that happens, that making a move to a bigger club, like Liverpool provides enough external pressure to assist with that mentality change to focus more.

24 Aug 2017 07:42:56
Thanks Ed001 is there any sign this is a priority now?

{Ed001's Note - nothing has changed. Klopp still wants VVD and he stills wants Liverpool, so it is an impasse.}

24 Aug 2017 09:44:51
Thanks for the answer. At least not long to go now until be done with for a few months.

23 Aug 2017 01:20:58
I'm not being funny but have Barcelona ever actually watched Coutinho play or is this just a flexing of muscles? No way on this earth is he worth £137mil he's a good player but come on there are a lot of better players in the world than him. It seems they can't be seen to lose face now they've had 3 bids rejected. People are giving us grief for our transfer dealings but they are an absolute joke. I say take it he'll be on his way out as soon as they realise just how inconsistent he is.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

23 Aug 2017 04:36:08
Well this post sums up you have no grasp on football. Barcelona has never spend any amount close to this on any player let alone Coutinho. They are not stupid at least when it comes to money. Coutinho is easily in top 3 in his position ( something you don't ente know what his position is ) an out of position Coutinho ( Left winger ) took us to CL. If you play him exactly in Iniesta's role then there is none better than him! If there was one single playmaker who had the nous of Coutinho they would have signed him months ago!

Now coming to his inconsistency! Coutinho is never inconsistent! He is physically taken out by opposition players or being man marked completely by the manager.
I don't remember a single game where he was given freedom to express himself and he had a stinker.

Salah's future depends up on coutinho's exceptional vision in picking his runs! The man bypass the entire midfield with one single pass! And that is exactly what he will do at Barcelona feeding Messi, Suarez and Dembele with his sublime passing! He will make things happen at Barca!

You can now possibly dislike him or even hate him for the way he has conducted himself! But he is the best I have seen in a long long time.

It's been 3 weeks I am trying myself to find anyone closer to him that would slot immediately and been unsuccessful

You could probably buy a winger or an attacking midfielder. Coutinho is a mix of both! when others dribble past defenders using pace, Phil just fool them to get past. The funny thing is he doesn't even have pace!

Phipps Coutinho is world class! And a genuine one! He doesn't even have a fixed position in the team!

Cheers.

23 Aug 2017 05:30:46
Coutinho is a brilliant player on his day.
Coutinho is also very consistent and disappears in many games.
Coutinho is not worth £137 million.

23 Aug 2017 07:16:54
Barcelona aren't signing him to play in the EPL or with the LFC squad or against EPL teams. He will suit them far more and look a better player than people here have generally seen.

23 Aug 2017 07:37:31
lol I am sorry the question is not his value, The question is, is it worth selling him for that money! No player is worth anything that's been paid in this window!

23 Aug 2017 09:31:56
Harry how can you possibly say he's the best you've seen in a long long time? Have you been stuck in a cupboard for the last 10 years? He doesn't come close to Suarez or Gerrard. He's not even as good as Mane! I love Couts but he is not the be all end all and Barcelona would regret spending all of that money on him he won't bridge the gap to Madrid,

23 Aug 2017 00:51:59
Eds, do you think there is a possibility that when couts signed his contract in January there was anything in it to say if we didn't get Champions league he could leave? Obviously for the right price as we all know there is no release clause.
Maybe this is why Barcelona are trying again now before we do actually qualify tomorrow! That's my theory anyway.
Also for years I've wanted us to do late business in the window as we all know fun it is watching SSN on the 31st of August, but my god I don't want this anymore! Pleas sign some players! Lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - no.}

22 Aug 2017 23:52:53
on sky sports apparently Barcelona are making a fourth bid for Couts! £101 million upfront and £37million in bonuses.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I thought they said on Twitter that they had officially ended their interest - they can't do this.}

23 Aug 2017 00:37:10
If Liverpool have someone lined up behind the scenes I'd take it with both fists.

23 Aug 2017 00:46:38
More than Barca, playing with Messi is once in life time opportunity.

We should let him go and the deal is also sweet if it's true.

Good luck to Couts.

Cheers.

23 Aug 2017 00:53:37
If we were to accept that, even Liverpool surely couldn't struggle to get some deals over the line with the cash they'd have to play with.

23 Aug 2017 01:13:32
And so it rumbles on.

23 Aug 2017 01:45:01
Unless we have both VVD and Keita signed up then any sale of Coutinho materially weakens the side so no thanks. I would like to see a season of him playing behind Mane, Firmino and Salah.

23 Aug 2017 01:48:50
Like who A2? There's no one ability available, that seri guy we were looking at was atrocious in the games I've seen him in, couthino can't be sold,

23 Aug 2017 01:56:22
If he goes now it'll be just like when we sold Torres.
Did somebody say panic buy?

23 Aug 2017 02:21:54
SKY? Would take it with pinch of salt .
But wouldn't be surprise if it really happen, cause i foresee us doing same thing after Wed till 31st Sept.

***all Eds thks for bearing with our nonsense and have a good one. Cheers.

23 Aug 2017 02:43:04
News coming from Sky Sports about this new bid. Not very reliable though are they?
What do u think Eds? Have Barcelona given up or do u actually expect them to get so desperate?

{Ed001's Note - they had not given up.}

23 Aug 2017 05:37:41
Crunch time. Will FSG stick to their guns or has this all been a ploy to get as much out of Barcelona as possible following the Neymar sale? Barcelona are obviously desperate to prove they still have the muscle and a part of me wants us to stand firm just because of that, but £138m!?!? If the add ons are achievable and we have a replacement lined up then as much as I love Phil, I think I would take it. Any predictions/ thoughts Ed001? Not asking for inside info I just like discussing people opinions on stuff like this.

23 Aug 2017 06:56:13
This story broke through last night via the S*n and a reporter on sky sports - via twitter.

If it's believed, £100m up front with achievable add ons, it's a lot of cash but. Barcelona have been playing games with ridiculous bids, we've not had enough time as it is to try and replace him. Bidding just before our CL game as well? I'd stick to my guns and tell them to F off.

I'm sticking by feelings on this - Selling PC when the club have catagorically said he's not for sale makes us look incredibly weak and shows to other players in the club that we will eventually crumble if they decide to leave.

Selling PC and not landing our two top targets will be disasterous both on and off the pitch imo

The board need to dig their heels in and say no.

23 Aug 2017 07:20:09
If the add ins are the same as before then they're by no means guaranteed so the deal should be looked at as 101m. Also correct me if I'm wrong Eds but the money in (especially if in stages) has no bearing on whether or not LFC buys or can afford to buy right now?

23 Aug 2017 00:44:09
Absolutely shocking behaviour! 😂😂.

23 Aug 2017 00:45:40
your right the offer is 138m 101m up front heard it on the radio so the the saga continues.

23 Aug 2017 01:02:11
Ed002 can you confirm if this includes a Happy Meal with the toy or not?

{Ed002's Note - It almost certainly does.}

22 Aug 2017 23:40:25
Hi Eds I've only just signed up for this site I'm just looking for some information as I'm late to the site are we still looking at VVD or will we sign him to your knowledge and is there anyone else we are. close to signing

MUtd signed 3 players like we have and they bought top players and look at how they are performing with these 3 players, if only we had bought similar type players who are proven we would look a much better side

Thanks for any replies and so sorry if you have already given these answer's.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

23 Aug 2017 01:43:19
No. just no!

23 Aug 2017 02:22:05
Macca said we are going to sign keita, van dijk and maybe oxlade chamberlain and that maybe the owners are waiting if we qualify for the champions league to make it happen.

23 Aug 2017 04:30:54
Welcome and to prevent an RTFP response I'll try summarise for you

VVD we're keen on but obviously post the statement from FSG unlikely to be bidding unless the situation changes and Southampton say they're looking to sell him. We took a look at Koulibaly and bid low but nothing since.

Keita we're still keen on but RBL still saying not for sale. We enquired after Seri as alternative but nothing since, might be an emergency backup plan.

Only other serious interest we seem to have is Oxlade Chamberlain but again Arsenal trying to keep him.

Seems with our main targets keen to move but clubs not willing to sell, we're likely to stick to our guns on Coutinho unless the dominos start to fall and situation changes.

We've likely moved on from some of the other names we looked at like Malcolm or Luan.

Various rumours around Lanzini, Insigne, Kovacic, Rakitic seem to be just that. rumours.

Eds feel free to correct if I've missed anything.

23 Aug 2017 06:54:37
"look at how they are performing with these 3 players"

Cant really put it down to the 3 signings they made because they already had some top quality players but couldn't gel at all last season. So far they appear to be gelling well, Hopefully it doesn't last too long😂.

23 Aug 2017 07:27:22
Who cares about Manchester united. They have money and spend big every year. Get used to it.

23 Aug 2017 11:35:51
