Edward 1 . Do u reckon it's a big season for ibe. Regardless of sterling . He's showed enough to be in the squad match days ?. Just hope he's not involved in any stupid loans . He's good enough

Believable7 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he is set to stay and play for the first team, but we have to expect him to struggle to maintain a high level and be inconsistent. The fans need to stick with him and not jump on his back like they have with Sterling when his form dipped. Kids are very rarely consistent.}

22 Jun 2015 22:40:42
I think Ibe will be great for us with a season under his belt. Yes he will be inconsistent and rightly so us fans need to support him. I just hope that Rodgers doesn't get his head down playing him as a wing back.

Baz

22 Jun 2015 23:18:01
To my mind I don't necessarily think people got on sterlings back just about his form, his contract issues were already starting to rear its head, he got sent on a mini holiday ( not entirely his doing) but he was good for about 2 games after that and rarely got dropped or even taken off when he was having bad games ( again not his doing)BR persisted with him when it was abuduntantly clear that he's not a striker and wasn't near consistent enough to be playing 90 mins a game.

Agree5 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 23:18:08
I think he will get supported aslong as he doesn't come out with "wouldn't sign for 900k' "what's to win trophies" etc and also doesn't have an idiot agent :)

Agree5 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 22:38:33
Cool . Just once he's not going to be used as any loan job etc . Get the right players in and around him and he will be superb I reckon . Utilise him correctly but wil Brenda ?

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 00:33:26
Agree we were hard on him but you see kids that are struggling offensively being dropped to the wing or fullback. Rodgers throws a kid staining his shorts anytime he gets in the box up to replace Luis Suarez. Just was a tough time for everyone out there last year especially our kids. I wish all the best to flanno but had he played all last season Rodgers would have probably tried his hardest to ruin him too. Whatever happens with sterling I hope he keeps progressing.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 21:25:03
This is going to be a bit doom and gloom I suspect, but what are people's predictions for next season?
On the down side Rodgers will probably make his usual slow start to the season despite all his honest amd best efforts- and given the tough early away run of games, I think the most likely outcome is that we'll be about tenth by november.
On the plus side for the clubs future, I believe that a very poor start will be enough to persuade the owners to act decisively, in regard to the managers position.
It all means that being under Rodgers management for half the season means there is almost no chance whatsoever of a top four place next season, but by yhe time he is gone we will still have some good players left to make a challenge the following season, providing the owners choose a better manager, and one of the current top four slips up a bit, as utd did this last season.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

22 Jun 2015 22:40:41
Hard to say until we finish making all our signings.
Current squad probably finish up the same as last year between 5-7th.
Add a couple more good signings and who knows?
I think Ings is good and should hit double figures but that's not enough. Would him and Sturridge have the same link up as Sturridge-Suarez? Almost certainly not, but then are they expected to play as a front 2?
I will hold my hands up and say I haven't seen kovacic play so I can't comment on that (if it happens).
Milner I think is a decent signing but like a lot of others was there any need?
Coutinho, Ibe, Lucas, hendo, can and markovic are all easily good enough to give us a very formidable midfield.
So like I said it's hard to say so early but between 5-7th.

Finish 3rd.
Last 8 of Europa league
Win League cup
Win FA cup.

23 Jun 2015 12:04:44
Ron, best we can hope for is last 8 of Europa. Given that we struggled against Besiktas. Basle and ludogrets even that is a long shot. Hopefully by the time the season starts I may be feeling a little more optimistic.

Although clearly a terrific player, I am convinced Carlos Bacca would be a dreadful signing for us.
That's about all.

Believable8 Unbelievable9

22 Jun 2015 21:44:03
My thoughts exactly. I haven't seen him play much, but I doubt he will be suited to a high press system and is 29 this year. I also don't think he will adapt to life in England.

22 Jun 2015 22:01:54
Clearly terrific, yet a dreadful signing.

Is there any pleasing people like you?

Would be really great!

22 Jun 2015 22:58:35
Didn't Brendan ignore the pressing system for half of last season? So who knows what players will suit?? He's would be a great player but as with most of our buys I don't believe we have the manager to make the most of them.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 23:22:43
Bacca is great and plays upfront on his own in a great system concocted by Unai Emery. I wouldn't mind him co he's proven but can't see it happening because Seville has CL footie and we dont

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 05:46:33
If you have seen Bacca play, you will have known that pressing is no problem for him. He is in the Suarez/Tevez mode of players, always running, pressing and pushing opposition players. However, how effective he will be here, I am unsure of. When Kuyt was in Netherlands, I thought he looked great, but lacked in natural talent. I was apprehensive how well Suarez would translate to the PL, and its the same with Bacca, I am not sure if he will be as good as he has been for Sevilla. He is 28 and doesn't rely on his pace, and that shouldn't be reason to not consider him.

23 Jun 2015 07:09:26
Almost all

23 Jun 2015 07:12:01
Almost all of his goals are headers from crosses played from wide or over the top early, that and penalties.
He just doesn't look like he would be a good fit for us at all,
We don't cross the ball for one thing,

Hi eds,

Ilori's father has given an interview today stating that Liverpool have promised Ilori a chance this season? He also hinted that Ilori will stay and fight for his place.

My question is 'do you believe the promises made to him or has the the player been well and truly brendaned? My worry is he will stay and get treated like borini

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect that the promise has not come from Brendan and he will be leaned on to make sure to keep that promise on behalf of the club.}

22 Jun 2015 21:38:59
He will stay get forced to be used as we really don't have many good cbs and be quality. I hope

If Rodgers is to stay I really hope he is taken in hand by the owners and not allowed to continue as the ring master. I do like Rodgers but I will support him as long as he does not continue where he left off. Illori deserves his chance, as does Ibe even if it has to come at the expense of Sterling. Our young players need to see that they can get a game and have a future at Liverpool.

22 Jun 2015 22:59:30
So BR will give him a run as a midfielder?

Agree7 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 23:28:05
If BR is being forced to play youngsters, alter his style, change systems to fit the players' ability, why don't we just get rid and bring in someone who can do all these things without being forced to?

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 22:27:43
Different player Ed but I'm wondering was it the club or Rodgers that gave Emre Can assurances about a midfield role next season?

Both he and the German u21 have quotes attributed to them saying he got assurances for next season

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers has. Liverpool will be stuck with Ilori as they have significantly over priced him.}

22 Jun 2015 20:51:38
Forget Carlos Bacca . Knowing our luck and with Ian Ayre and Brendan Rodgers working I a deal we will end up with his brother Chew ;-)

Hi Ed's

I have been watching the U21 championship and there have been some real standout performers already. The Czech Republic hattrick hero was very impressive, but also Emre Can.

Being played in his preferred Midfield role, he has been the focal point of everything Germany have done.

My question is, will Brendan Rodgers and/or any scouts be there watching our own players to assess their development? If the answer is yes does Can's performances make it more likely he will be given his chance in Liverpools MF next season?

Cheers
YNWA

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Liverpool always have scouts monitoring tournaments like this and videos of the games our players appear in will be available to the coaching staff to look at.}

22 Jun 2015 21:22:32
Roberto Martinez is always at the Everton academy home matches. Never seen The One with the Huge Nose at any of our Academy games

Agree7 Disagree0

22 Jun 2015 17:00:06
Question to ed's if possible. Under the current structure with Rogers in charge and players used continually out of position what would you see as a realistic league position in coming season?
Also with the same squad and imminent changes to coaching do you think a new manager would be able to get more out of the squad and challenge for champions league slot and trophies on regular basis?
Cheers ed's in advance

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - realistic? Top half. Though I hope top 4, as that is a realistic aim with the squad we have. A good manager would do more yes.}

22 Jun 2015 19:32:13
Ed001 you seem to have changed your mind. A few months ago you said Liverpool had a better squad then Man Utd and arsenal and I'd expect them 2 to finish top 4 so if liverpool really have got a better squad than them 2 then realistically they should finish top 4?

As I said at the time Liverpools squad is not as good as arsenals or uniteds

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - you obviously never read the question, I was asked about a realistic finish under Rodgers, not a realistic finish with the quality of squad, which I clearly said was top 4. Try reading properly before spouting off. Our squad is overloaded now, whereas neither Arsenal nor Man Utd have a good back up if their first choice is out injured.}

22 Jun 2015 20:30:20
I think the season finished is the worst we could have done. With a little change here and there we could and should be doing better. Everything that could go wrong last season did go wrong. Bad start, Injured forwards, wrong ones purchased, players played out of position, defence STILL not sorted, i could go one and we finished 6th. We can easily do better.

Agree3 Disagree2

22 Jun 2015 21:03:48
All those things you mentioned could have been rectified with adequate planning and strategy, none of which exists under the current setup and a manager who seems to make things up as he goes along because after three years and a squad he has built, he still doesn`t know his best eleven nor his best system hence, playing players aout of position in order to see what sticks. All clubs have injuries, dips in form and the lot which is why you use the offseason to plan and prepare which we are aweful at. That is not the way to success. Yopu need to plan otherwise you are planning to fail

Agree4 Disagree2

22 Jun 2015 21:54:38
Think you need to take your red tinted specs off ed. Man Utd and arsenals second teams are far ahead of Liverpools. Liverpool do have some great backups if there players are out injured.
Bogdan instead of mignolet
Allen instead of Henderson
Ings instead of Sturridge

Liverpool have a really unbalanced squad. In my opinion they need 4 players for the 1st 11 never mind saying they have the backup required if the first 11 get injured.

Agree2 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - why is it Allen? What about Milner, or Can or Rossiter? You clearly have a blinkered view if you think United, who have been stuck playing a winger as a right back most of the season, have good back ups. Who do they have? Come on, stop talking nonsense and actually name their back ups that are so good. As for Arsenal, what the hell have they to do with anything? We only need to finish above one of the top four, not two. There is nothing unbalanced about the Liverpool squad at all, there are far too many players, not too few. The manager is the issue not the players.}

22 Jun 2015 22:00:50
Isn't it as simple as us having a fit player who can score his fair whack of goals?

With the chances created, a decent striker would have banged in twenty goals.

Naive, maybe, but true.

Agree2 Disagree2

22 Jun 2015 22:34:01
A fit goal scorer would go a long way Davey.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Jun 2015 11:10:50
Indeed the manager is the issue, not the players.

A good manager would get quite a bit more out of the players we have.
Playing them in their natural positions for a start and not imposing a system a certain in-place manager wants to prove.

There are a number of top class managers that could be available.

Over to you FSG.

Lets look at the positives:

- Pepjin Lijnders, will be appointed as first team coach. He is supposed to be great managing young prospects, perhaps he will have some sort of impact bringing through some of the academy players. I have only heard great things about him.

- Johnson and Gerrard will no longer be at LFC. No hate to either of them, I will miss Gerrard, but we need to move on and I will wish both of them the best.

- Milner might have underwhelmed some LFC fans, but he has international experience, and he´s a very consistant player. It will be important to have some experienced players among our young squad.

- Henderson will only be better, and he won´t have to cover for Gerrard. I believe we will see a better Henderson this coming season.

- Can, Ilori and Ibe are players who we can be excited about. Can and Ilori have both done well in the U21, and if we keep on giving them playing time they will be class players. Ibe requested to do some extra training with Dalglish, that´s the mentality we need at the club. let's hope that Lijnders will convince BR that these players are the future.

- We have one of the best academies in the world I suppose. We are great at finding the right talent, now we just have to start playing them - Again I hope Lijnders is the man who can make this happen.

- We have international football! I know it´s only EL, but to be honest I actually enjoyed it this year. There are a lot of great teams playing in it, and getting some experience won´t hurt.

- Sturridge will hopefully be back in January, and I believe he will have a massive impact, if he can stay fit.

- We are being linked with the right kind of quality (Kovacic and Firmino).

I just thought that some positivity was needed. let's not judge BR on things he haven´t done yet like; BR will only play Can as RB next season.

If you have any other positives, please contribute.

Believable8 Unbelievable5

22 Jun 2015 18:50:52
Ings looks great to me. Gomez can only be a positive.

We will probably get want we want for Sterling and it seems the cash will be reinvested.

Also the no.2 I can only see this guy being better then Pascoe.

The only positive is that sooner or later Brendan will move on.

Agree8 Disagree8

22 Jun 2015 21:09:52
Gomez - Don`t know why he`s here? As good as he may be, he will just be another statistic on the endless list of youth we buy and have no plan what to do with if the trend we have seen under BR is to be followed

Ilori: will be sold w/o him having played a single minute for us

Pepin: If he`s the one that should "convince" BR to play who or what, why not give him the job and fire BR?

Agree5 Disagree3

22 Jun 2015 21:16:48
Well, I'm with you redfuzz, I think we are at the start of something really exciting where we are really challenging for honours regularly.
I actually hope we don't buy too many more players as its too disruptive and actually not bothered if we don't add anymore.
I like the fact we are doing our business early as it gives players a chance to settle. I've never understood buying players after the season has started.
Stadium is coming along and will be amazing when completed.
I also think that most teams realise what's happening at Liverpool it's seems that it's our fans that are not convinced.
I think we have a great chance of top 4 as long as the squad is managed properly. Whether that's with or without Rodgers, time will tell.

Players signed to date have been free (I know, not really) so they can't be held to their price tag - I hate seeing people say we could've got so and so for that. Important factor is that the player has to actually want to join us.

I hope we can find another Torres / Suarez in terms of modestly priced striker that becomes brilliant and proves to be a value purchase.

LFC have a core of young (under 23) players, some of whom are well known throughout Europe as among the best at their age, some will leave, some will not make it. But, this is where Rodgers will have no excuse, use them, mix it with quality and get the best.

Coutinho, Sterling, Wisdom, Ilori, Ings, Moreno, Can, Markovic, Ibe, Gomez, Teixeira, Alberto, Yesil, Origi

with his love of media I thought it might go down well with fellow posters. I would suggest similar to what macca had previously. Would not expect him to do replys but maybe a paragraph or two on his workings in the club and reasons to formation taticks etc.

Totally agree we beat off competition to sign him, he is a regular International and a good defender yet we seem to want to sell him without giving him a real chance, Toure & Skrtel are in there 30's now so shouldn't we be trying to bed Ilori in alongside Sakho as our CB partnership?

That is a Dear BR question because only he can tell you why he spent 7m on a player with so much talent yet hasn`t played a minute for us. Who knows, tho because BR could conveniently tell you that he`s uncoachable because anything he can`t fix in the team, is always uncoachable.

Missed the Germany - Denmark U21 game but will watch it tonight. Here's some reviews of one Mr. Can's performance:

Emre Can - 7.5 - Boss

"Completely took control of the midfield as every pass seemed to be made of gold, with the Liverpool man assisting on the first goal due to a delightful through ball."

4/5 - "Superb through-ball laid on Vollan's opener in another impressive performance at the heart of Germany's midfield. One of the tournament's standout players thus far."

You'd almost get the feeling he's not a right-back. :)

Hoping Ings will start against Italy and make a splash.

Sly will have some headlines and then add more headlines and put a headline on how the odds for someone like Ilarremendi have been slashed to 5/4 from 8/1, sucker in some people and shorten the odds a bit more so they feel like it is really happening and they have a good chance but they may not have any real info on the deal.

What do you think we need to do to get these moves through?

And also what is it exacely that were doing wrong when it comes to dealing with other clubs?

{Ed001's Note - we need to make realistic offers. You wouldn't go into a Ferrari dealership and offer £20k for a Ferrari worth £350k, it would just get you thrown out on your ear. You know they might be willing to haggle and come down a bit, but you have to start somewhere they are not just going to be annoyed with you and refuse to discuss it with you.}

22 Jun 2015 14:30:49
Well Irralamendi is likely to go to Bilbao but I'm cautiously optimistic we might stop messin about and actually make acceptable bids for the other two. We got the Moreno deal done eventually despite managing to piss Sevilla off on the way. We're not making any friends but if we land the players I won't mind too much. However, I wouldn't put any of my hard-earned money on it since there's also every chance that we'll upset the wrong person and the plug be pulled.

I think there heads in the right place, trying to get us better deals but it works better when your in a successful period because you have more chance of the player forcing it through and not giving the selling club many cards to hold and therefore having to maybe settle below what they want

Whoever is doing the valuations though need to rework it because I think the clubs puts there own ones on each player and won't go past that, but you look at 23 mil lallana, 25 mil Marko and were assing around with someone of Kovacics calibre. All I can think of is were trying to call their bluff because we know they need to sell with FFP, but were risking them just stopping negotiating with us.

I quite like how they are playing hardball with our players, will hopefully make other clubs think twice before coming in for them and If they do they know they will have to pay top dollar.

Very very very brave to reject 40 mil for Sterling when in a year he's worth about 5 mil!

redman,i don't get your thinking at all and you aren't the only one,the transfer of players between clubs are an essential part of football, without them football is finished, for some reason or another, lfc and a lot of the fans are showing a lot of hostility towards any club who dares enquire/make an offer for one of its players,it almost like the board + fans are taking it as a personal attack, yet are happy to see a player from another club force a move to liverpool as ed001 eluded to regarding the s,hampton players, there is a danger that other clubs may refuse to deal with lfc in the future on a point of principle because of bad blood, raheem stirling is getting a lot of stick lately but a lot of fans would be rubbing their hands with glee if a player from another club was to do the same because he wanted to go to lfc. just food for thought

Just wondered if anyone else was as worried as I was at the time and still now about Balotellis affect on the squad, his work rate on the pitch and positional sense is non existent, I just felt and still feel that having a player like him would have a negative impact on the squad an of course there's more to football then one player but imagine going in to work and trying hard yet getting paid less then a guy who simply can't be arsed, whether he played or not , in my mind things were already against us before he arrived with trying to replace Suarez and his goals but his made it worse so my question is even though we spend beyond our means anyway isn't it a good idea to get rid of Balo at any costs I know you said forget finances but I'd let him go for 8m easy simply for team morale.

Although no one seems to have any info about the Werner - Rodgers end of season review, I'll still ask.

Has Rodgers been in a way forced to use the youth we have over this season? I'm just seeing that Ibe and Jones are doing extra training during the summer, which must mean they have news of an oppertunity. Also wisdom has been told he's getting a chance.

With Rodgers being so quiet, unusually so. I'm seeing that as being told to do so. The coaches changing as well seem an FSG order. One of their big ideas and why Rodgers was hired was towards youth products so I wonder if that's sonething we will see happen and 99% of the transfer news is paper fluff.

Fully aware you guys have to be careful, so won't ask, but are there any auto biographies you'd recommend which give a good insight to goings on behind the scenes at Anfield? Especially during the Benitez years.

Yes this is off the back of a comment about Keane. But anything interesting will be just as good

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - personally I am not a big fan of autobiographies, they tend to just be biographies with a picture on the cover of the player involved, or just be completely self absorbed nonsense. You honestly couldn't write this stuff. In 2014 we threw the league when Henderson got banned because we had no like for like replacement and ended up with Allen/Lucas at the side of the diamond formation.

We now have genuine and quality depth and people are just moaning about players potentially not getting gane time!

I don't care how Rodgers keeps them happy. To be honest I don't care if they're happy or not. They're on enough money anyway. All I care about is our squad being as strong as it possibly can be and midfield options of Hendo, Milner, Lucas, Can, Kovacic and Allen sounds pretty good to me. That's enough quality to make two 3 man midfields of premier leagie quality. Genuine quality depth.

Coutinho, Lallana, Ibe, Ings, Sturridge, Markovic and Origi can have it out over the front 3 positions.

This moaning is getting pathetic though in my opinion.

Thos is shaping up to be a very good transfer window in my opinion. We might even have the squad capabilities to challenge on all 4 fronts next season. Top 4 and 3 decent cup runs would suit me just fine.

Agree2 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - we threw the league because we didn't adjust to suit the loss of Henderson, not because we needed to buy someone to sit on the bench in case he got banned! Lucas is certainly good enough in the position he is used to, the problem was he was misused so Gerrard could be misused playing in the position best suited for Lucas. We didn't need to add squad players, we still do not need to add squad players. I fail to see how you can miss that and instead rave, as you do every season, about all these players coming in, rather than wanting the ones we already have to be used correctly. We already have Can who can cover Hendo now, so we already had that cover in the squad, but we have added Milner as well, it makes no sense.}

22 Jun 2015 13:04:52
I think we needed him - the only true experienced box to box player we had once SG left was Hendo - Can has talent but inexperienced, Allen/Lucas not creative/dangerous enough going forward and Cout/Llalana attacking mids (although I think Llalana could cover). Milner adds another creative engine in midfield who can also defend and has experience when things get tough.

Think back to what happened last season when Hendo got red carded. that's why we need Hendo and why we can afford to sell Allen IMO.

Kovacic on the other hand is a luxury signing although I still hope we get him, just not at the expense of a top FB and striker which we need more.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - how do you figure out we need an experienced box to box player? It doesn't matter where the experience is, we have plenty of it in defence and midfield and up front already. The red card for Hendo is irrelevant, we had more than enough cover, it was badly used, there was only a need to use it properly not add to it.}

22 Jun 2015 13:13:25
Squad players should be just that, squad players. They should be made up of youngsters and players aiming to make the break through, not a 29 year old on a large wage who was probably informed he would be a starter when he signed on. I don't know about you, but I would be pretty cheesed off if I signed for a club who fought off interest from others only to sit on the bench. It can create a negative atmosphere for a start. Everybody knows where we need to strengthen and it certainly isn't midfield.

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 13:15:26
The only way I can see Milner fitting in is if he plays from either wing, or filling in for injuries central. In my opinion he isn't better than Henderson as a box to box midfielder, he isn't a better defensive midfielder than Lucas, and he will not be a better option than Kovacic if we are still to get him. He might be at a better current ability than Can but we can't really judge because he has barely played centre midfield since being at the club. Although I do think he can offer something as a player for he high wages he is apparently on he could hinder the development of players like Can, Rossiter and if played on the wing Ibe and Markovic

Agree8 Disagree1

22 Jun 2015 14:40:46
box to box midfielder?

In his club career, since 2002, Milner has cored grand total of 38 goals.

Last season we struggled particularly because midfield were not weighing in with enough goals.

Coming season we will have a midfield who last year scored:

Milner: 5
Henderson: 6
Lallana: 5
Allen: 1
Lucas: 0
Coutinho: 5
Sterling: 7
Can: 1

So in grand total for last season we scored 24 goals from midfield excluding Gerrard (9)

Likely line up I think would see Hendo, Lallana, Milner, Coutinho and Ibe?? playing if we go 3-4-3 again with arguably 2 maybe 3 of those playing out of favoured position.

I agree with Ed, I am not convinced we needed Milner at all, if he had a proven track record of doing what we miss (banging in loads of goals from midfield) then by all means great signing, however past from suggests he doesn't and is therefore another "creative" midfielder to add to the list who is capable of passing the ball around whilst not under pressure.

Milner brings huge wages and takes a squad place that could have potentially gone to a young prospect. I think he will do fine but the point is the signing is completely unnecessary and doesn't really make much sense - our problem areas are well known yet we still aren't addressing them, it's a massive cause for concern and demonstrates that we, as a club, are still not learning lessons in the transfer market. Hugely concerning.

nothing new just summarising--so in few days we have been linked to firmino, kovacic and now illara. we have signed Milner and there is clear indication that LFC want to sign another midfielder. some links to payet rumours too. now all these signings are very good quality names and if we get any one of them it does improve the squad surely.
But it does put the careers of players already at club in a spot. for eg if we get illara, , emre can looses games. or say if we get kovacic one of milner or hendo looses games. if we get firmino , couts ibe loose games. these are first team players , the academy prospects just won't get a game and the bench players like lucas allen markovic just cost salries.
rodgers is obviously hopeless at managing players and if we collect players there is just going to be unrest and at one point it will burst out.
I for one feel Ibe has to play atleast 30 games next season to do him any good. and so does emre can . Hendo and milner i think will start all games, and we need coutinho every game too.
in just one year it is such a mess at LFC right now that even good signings like firmino kovacic illara really don't make any sense.

I don't have any foundation for this and i am just making a point. And maybe the Ed's could make a comment with there thought's and insight's.

Is it possible that these players (Illori for instance) are NOT BR's choices but the committee's?

Could it be that BR does not pick them to play to try and force them to buy the player's and ONLY the player's he asks for?

I think of his comments on Ballo before he arrived too. Surely that was a committee decision and not a BR choice. (I know he is a lazy player and that could be the reason he does not get chosen)

Seems real strange to me that some good players are being IGNORED even though they are performing at a better level than those that make the team sheet.

{Ed001's Note - even if that was true, which it is not except in the case of Balotelli (though the club did exhaust all other options before ending up with Balotelli), surely the manager should stop being such an arrogant arse and just play the best players from those he has regardless of who chose them? Though that is not the case, he just chooses not to play them because he has his own ideas on who should play, that doesn't include those players and nothing to do with who chose them. If it was the case, and he was refusing to pick players because someone else had chosen them, he would have been out of the door long ago mate. Just ask AVB what happens when you do that, he didn't last a season at Spurs when he tried doing the same thing...}

I am in full agreement with you Ed001.

I have not and cannot understand why he does not put out his best 11 and why he puts players out of there natural position.

I have tried to think of why he does what he does. This was the ONLY thing i could come up with.

Illori is a prime example.

Ignoring this guy, when our defence is a shambles. just smacks of arrogance.

I don't know if he was a committee choice or a BR choice but he should be at least given a chance on current form.

Allen is another. I often wonder if he is BR's love child or something.

Playing Can out of position.

I could go on but i know you, as well as me and most supporter know what i mean.

I am also worried about all these in coming midfield players when were DESPERATE for a quality striker and a decent RB that can cover for our players that are susceptible to injuries.

I'm not trying to be negative here, at my age i have supported the team for over 40 years, but something needs sorting. And it needs doing sooner rather than later.

I have to ask; why has FSG kept faith with Rodgers ?

Rodgers follows a psychological pattern. The more his tactics fail. The more he will employ them. Insisting that he is proven right.
He will focus on Joe Allen. Lots of passing in our own half. Pack the mid-field and use no centre forward. He will continue to install players out of position and ignore those he does not like, however talented and suitable.

The more this system fails, the more he will keep faith with it. He believes that he has improved the Barcelona style of play and just has to prove it to the world come what may.

It doesn't matter what players are brought in, he will ruin them trying to prove a point.

22 Jun 2015 23:43:30
Yuri, only in BR's dreams does Barca play the way he plays. His idea of Barca's possession system has no basis in reality nor fact. As for his playing the same system all the time in order to prove himself right, he did that at Reading and the owner was not as gracious as FSG as that was the main reason he sacked BR. The team was out of control and fading fast yet BR kept saying all was well and the players are you know, "OUSTANDING" after every poor result. The owner got fed up and got rid. Morning Eds, can i ask, why are we ok with selling sterling to Man city when man utd came in and immediately we rebuffed them? last time i checked they were both in Manchester and both are rivals for the top 4!? i know the history of man u and Liverpool but its seems strange we will happily sell him to the better team in Manchester?!

Also how come we can sign this Gomez kid and get him a loan pretty much sorted yet we have hundreds of youngsters who we panic and loan stupidly every season as rodgers wants a 10 man midfield?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - you have answered your own question regarding City and United. As for Gomez, it is simply that he has shown he can play in a first team, whereas our youngsters are unproven kids, so it is difficult to find teams willing to take a chance on them. Once our academy's reputation improves, more clubs will be interested in taking them on loan.}

22 Jun 2015 09:16:52
ah ok cool thanks ed 1 just wasnt sure why we have all these young kids that we keep firing on mad loans so they don't develop at all, i guess the club like everything else are trying to improve the academy rep its just at same time rodgers is trying to destroy it with all his mad buys?!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - unless we stop buying squad players and use the youth as squad fillers, the rep will never really improve, as people need to see them play proper competitive level football to judge them. Once you build a rep, then you will find the club has lots of options for loans, as teams will want our players, knowing they will almost certainly improve the team. Right now, they are still remembering players like Toni Silva, who looked great at youth level but failed to make the step up. Players like Ibe are a different matter, he had shown he was capable before we signed him, so it was not difficult to find him a loan. Same with Wisdom, as he had made a couple of first team appearances, so there were a decent range of clubs to choose from when we decided to send him out on loan.}

22 Jun 2015 09:40:52
cool thanks ed1 totally agree we should be using what we have inhouse instead of buying ready made players that we don't need, that's the point in having an academy in the first place i thought, i just hope the club realise what they have infront of them and start using the youngsters properly!

That's quite harsh Ed. The reason you probably feel we are the worst fans on this site is because the liverpool page is by far the most popular of all the clubs and therefore may have a higher number of negative posts than other clubs.

If we have 100 posts per hour and 10 are negative, compared to for example Tottenham who have 10 posts per hour but 2 are negative, it may seem like a lot of our posts are negative when in fact the percentage is probably on par with most clubs.

And I agree with previous posts, it's due to us being a big club which in recently as 2009 were thrashing Real 4-0 but now could only scrape past Ludogorets. From my view, I'm still not over the terrible reign of Hicks and Gillett and any anger I feel is still an indictment on them.

It's comments like this, that make ed002 sound a bit foolish, this from a chelsea fan! I can name a lot worse in my experience! We have the best fans in the world, none football fans and supporters of other clubs know that, it is just a small minority of liverpool fans that visit this site and most of which, proberbly don't even go to matches! We don't feel the need to pay for banners to be flown over like a certain other club not to far away! Yet we have the worlds worst fans, think about that statement for a second, when you see fans at a certain turkish club etc!!!! Not a clever comment really!

I do feel a lot of our fans are very negative even before we kick a ball . We need to back the club and let's see where we go but it is catch up on the top 4 teams imo . Rogers might not be the right man but he is the manager for now so he has my full support . Onwards and upwards I hope

kiela4,your typically deluded mate, fans at other clubs (manu, chelsea, arsenal,n,castle utd ect, ect) all think they are the most knowledgable fans and how can a non football fan decide to award liverpool fans the moniker as the best fans in the world that is just silly .this is why you see a lot of fans on here complaining regularly of being a laugh stock in the eyes of other fans, living in the past and making silly statements like yours doesn't help

It has been getting worse and worse reading this page this past season, obviously we are not doing well and fans are unhappy. I do think the posts overall are very negative and the Rodgers out brigade is tiresome at this stage. There is hardly ever anything new in Yuri's posts they are all Rodgers this and Rodgers that. He is only one of many. Shez9k mentions the high traffic, I agree with that but 10 negative out of 100 I would think is more like 60 negative out of 100.

Some of the negative posts are well constructive and interesting to read, however the majority are so repetitive that it's painful reading for those who visit the site numerous times a day.

I agree you get some numpty's on here, but as mentioned above, a lot of these people probably don't go to games or even know where liverpool is. During the run in when we came 2nd I think Liverpool fans were amongst the best in the world. I've never seen other fans line the streets to welcome home players to a game with Sunderland. Every fan supported the team unreservedly. There is not a chance in hell that LFC fans are the worst in world football. Maybe we expect too much, but I personally believe we should expect to be challenging for titles, given our history.

Plus, have you ever seen Newcastle fans when things are going wrong?

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - so Liverpool fans are only great when things are going well? That is a sad indictment of them right there, though you have made yourself look a complete tool with your talk about 'probably don't go to games or even know where liverpool is'. What is it with people thinking they are better fans because they are lucky enough to be from Liverpool and be able to go to games? It is not even true, the biggest moaning pricks at the games tend to be Scousers sadly.}

I think the frenzy that we're experiencing right now is down to the perception from many fans is that the club is being mismanaged from top to bottom. That perception, whether right, wrong or somewhere inbetween the two has in some part been contributed to by some of the valuable insight published on this website. We all want the best for the club and watching mistakes, whether at board level or on the pitch, being repeated over and over again is contributing to the general frenzy we see. If FSG people are crawling over these pages (I am sure they have people who do) I would recommend they heed the valuable input from the Eds! We're not asking for a revolution but just some common sense and measure.

Some years ago, I watched a few games from the Shed at Chelsea.

Back in 1973 I was watching Chelsea vs Man Utd. George Best was being hacked to pieces by Harris and his goons. No comment from the Chelsea fans.

Bobby Charlton picked up the ball in his own half and began a mazing run at Chelsea. When he got thirty from goal he unleashed a thunderbolt. The next thing we knew was Bonetti looking at the ball in the back of his net.

"What a goal!"
Silence from the Shed. I was surrounded by manikins.

Chelsea fans have not changed.

Liverpool fans used to applaud great play from the opposition.

Great teams come and go. Remember the mighty Leeds ?

One day we might say: Remember the Mighty Reds ?

For me the interesting thing is WHY there is negativity.

Honestly I don't care whether we are the worst fans in the world or not. Let's focus on something we actually can measure: how well the team does in the league.

Going back to the point, negativity usually can be traced back to something. And it isn't usually results. Results are a symptom of something else. If fans, or employees or soldiers or any given group believe in the leadership to get them where they want to be then they buy into the concept and remain positive.

Here's the issue. We see too many decisions we don't understand. Coaches sacked but the boss stays and no apparent plan to get new coaches. Dirty washing being aired in public. Talk of player unrest. Issues in the playing staff not being addressed. So fans are worried about what's going on.

Would shutting up and watching a decline make us better fans? At the end of the day we can't actually change much I suppose. But I'd rather be a rubbish fan of the best team in Europe than a delightfully charming sort of chap who doesn't mind not winning the league for 20 years.

I will support our team every second of every game until I draw my last breath.

But don't ask me to stay quiet when I see things are going wrong.

Wow. This is depressing.

Dubred68 - I am with you, guy.

I have been a supporter of Rodgers but I am learning why he maybe needs to be moved on. I have very mixed views right now about the man - but I guess we will have to see what manifests on the pitch this season. I think anyone in the manager's seat would have an incredibly difficult job & time will tell how well he does it. I think only history will the judge.

I don't know if the contributors on this site represent a fair cross section of LFC supporters at large but it can make for unfortunate reading. In my circles, Spurs fans would seem to be the biggest moaners, but again that is only a cross section of my particular social circle and not the larger picture.

When the season starts I hope everyone gets behind the club - and manager - and owners - and players (including Sterling and Mario, IF they are still here) - and will put everything else aside at least until a reasonable amount of time has passed and we can see how the season is going to unfold.

It will take a good long while for the club to recover from almost going to the wall - and a lot of what happens behind the scenes is a mystery to me but I have to keep faith that it is all part of a larger plan that we are not privy to.

Perhaps the owners should include fans and give a (even dumbed down) broad sketch of future plans, but it can't be denied that the club is in a better position than it was a few years back. It's a cliché but you have to have solid foundations to build on & I think that is where the club is at right now. The glory days may come back in time, but if the club doesn't adjust on an administrative and executive level then the glory days will certainly not come back at all.

It's painful to see our ups and downs, but we've had a few ups to cherish at least. Look how long it took Chelsea and City to come to the fore after all that cash became available - should we expect to have greater success with fewer funds available?

I think we have to be patient, take the long view and hope the club recovers from it's foundations up. Maybe BR needs to go, maybe he will turn it around. Most LFC supporters in my circles believe he should have one more season.

As it appears he is staying I think we should get behind him and the club. That's not to say we can't ask reasonable questions of him in the meanwhile - and it's right that we do, and we should continue to but the trolling is wrong. We get enough abuse from other clubs' fans, we don't really need to do it to ourselves as well.

For the person who commented about not being from Liverpool I do not know how this makes any difference, I am not from Liverpool and go to games and the worst fans are the ones from Liverpool who are still calling for Dalglish to be in charge or Benitez as soon as Rodgers had a few bad games. Criticising Gerrard during a game this season with my brother almost ended in us being called all sorts of expletives and then later in the season the same fans began to criticise him and because they're from Liverpool it was okay. Anyone who supports the club should be seen as the same so longs they are true fans who support the club through thick and thin not when the going gets tough. Although I am not Rodgers biggest fan I will still support him a long with any player until they are no longer at the club. There is nothing wrong with criticising players but do not trash them such as Danny Ings has been getting before he has even kicked a ball because his name is not something from Spain or abroad

That was particularly disappointing for me TJ, i honestly thought lfc fans would not stoop as low as man u fans but i was clearly wrong.

This lfc worst fans in the world debate is interesting, i can't and won't dispute the evidence the eds site regarding the vitriol. And judging by the posts that get through its hard to find a defending argument.

For me the issue is about frustration and fans sometimes find it hard to strike a balance between reason and the tripe being fed to them by the media.

Also a large proportion of the fan base was picked up after the champs league win and they are typically a younger and oft poorly educated fan base who find it difficult to express themselves adequately.

Having been a supporter of lfc for 30 plus years i am also guilty of airing extreme view points and if i have ever offended i am truly sorry but in my defence it has always come from a love of the club and a desire for it to succeed and do better. I guess some days i forget it is after all just a game of football and my life goes on whether we finish the league as champions or 6th after being demolished by stoke.

The point about not being from liverpool is an exaggeration. As a lot of people call chelsea fans plastic, I think every club has fans like that, who don't necessarily know a lot about football. Or have just chosen that particular club to support because they love a player that plays for them. I have friends that have done that, no problem with it at all, but that kind of fan from my experience can sometimes be quicker to turn on the team. If others' experiences says different then fair enough.

I actually love how many fans we have from outside liverpool I was recently in Asia, and saw hundreds of Thai people in liverpool merchandise. Very little United.

And yeah liverpool fans are great when things are going well, every fan is, but I'd say that season was at a level if not seen by other clubs before. I'd also argue liverpool fans have been great for my 20 years+ of supporting the club, in which time we've not won the league. I wasn't keen on being amongst the 'worst fans in world football' which is why I commented in the first place.

Sorry if any offence was caused with my earlier comment, tough to convey tone.

I have to say in the real world, they are as good as any. Judging them on sites like this is not really fair. If you don't meet them in real life I guess this is the only way to judge. However if you were lucky enough to be the ground for the Liverpool v Chelsea ghost goal match final you may have had a different view. Also you can't the cultural aspect out of it , we are fairly confrontational and sarcastic as a tribe.

Jose mourinho himself has mocked the Chelsea fans. Let alone other people. And don't give the response of 'your a fool for making this about Chelsea'. No what I'm doing is retaliating to a generalised and irrational comment made ironically by a Chelsea fans. Fans that moan if they don't spend barrels of cash on players they don't even know. If you where a UTD fan of so the same thing. I'm just being the 'worst kind of supporters' by defending the club I love. Yeah you must be a women for sure.
