We really do have a great squad of players! Only the manager could balls it up! Really hoping BR has learned some lessons :))

Time to cut the numbers now and sell a few.

And at all costs get rid of Mario, he's a bad influence I think.

Believable19 Unbelievable2

23 Jul 2015 00:18:44
It might have taken hundreds of millions to get to this point BUT with the money spent this season especially on CB who BR greatly lobbied for, he will have no one else to blame, no Balo no Raheem to use as cover for any blunders he may make and for the first time, the commitee will not be there to cover his butt. Time to deliver, BR!

absolutely redohio, almost the entire squad has been bought under his leadership; its all on him. I hope for the sake of our team he succeeds! perhaps the benteke signing show he's willing to adapt slightly from his possession with no end product philosophy and he seems to have learned not to discuss things with the media which should be kept behind closed doors.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Jul 2015 05:12:32
well the problem is last year when we had a decent squad he had no idea where to play players and ended up playing them out of position. this year we have a great squad and i don't think rodgers has a clue where he will play them. added to the pre season teams we have coutinho firmino and benteke ,those three would be definite first team attacking trio. but then you also have ings ibe and lallana like a replacement to the trio. then we have markovic sturridge(when fit he could be first choice) and origi like the third choice attacking trio.

then for midfield we have hendo milner allen with can lucas and rossister as backups.

the defence is with no real first choice except for RB that would be clyne. we have sakho illori skrtel lovren toure gomez wisdom and moreno.

those are 24 players , 24 really ready first team players. not even including the keepers. add two and its 26 players. we have to select 21 . so i think that is where BR's problem start. then he has to trim is to 16 who make the match day squad and he has to rotate players. if last few seasons are to go by that's is one area he has no clue about player and team management.
all this assuming we sell balo, borini lambert and enrique atleast

Akshit

One of our major problem last year was not scoring goals and we have added 4 players to do the job. Where our defense and midfield remains same meaning we will concede as much as last season.

{Ed001's Note - but out midfield has changed, Gerrard left and he was part of the problem defensively when playing deep.}

Benteke is a total unit in those photos at his unveiling today and I'm delighted we've secured him.

We have real depth all over the team now and our squad is as good as I can remember in many years.

Really looking forward to this season now more than ever.

As long as Rogers just sets the team up correctly and doesn't put square pegs in round holes we can really get in the mix for all competitions were in.

I personally think we are going to have a great season. We have good center backs, one of the best right backs in England, and Moreno, who will get better this season. We defended so badly last year as the midfield was slow ( Gerrard, the greatest, but let's be honest, he was past it for the pl). Once Lucas came in to protect the back 4, all of a sudden transformed into one of the best defense in the pl.

I really don't think any of our rivals have the engen we have in midfield, with the boundless energy of Henderson, Milner and Can. With Lillana(spelling), coutinho, firmino, and ibe, we have excellent creative outlet, and benteke, ings, are strong at finishing. There is still sturidge, and origi.

I think they are actually owned by the same concern. They've just chosen to brand our shirts NB now rather than their warrior brand.

So my guess is that it's the same stuff being made in the same factory and so the sizing will be the same.

But it's just a view and I haven't tried it. I get my boy a new one every year on his birthday with his age and our family name. The year before last had Suarez' number. He left. Then he had Stevie's same thing. Now he's going to be 9 I'm hoping that Lambert hangs on a while and keeps the nine. If Big Ben gets it and the curse strikes him that will be expensive.

I just want to say Rodgers could learn from van gaals blasting of his new player. No matter the score we always pressed and worked well with great intensity at times. Even against bloody stoke all he said was first half we were poor but we improved second half

He should have fined every player who played a week's wages and absolutely rollocked them followed by a end of season tour to teach them a lesson.

My point being although I believe we should back Rodgers he needs to learn from his mistakes and if the team play crap tell them how it is

Accept nothing but the best, ynwa

Believable10 Unbelievable10

22 Jul 2015 21:07:16
You mentioned the stoke game. do you know how many of our players actually played their own positions?. Rogers is the one that should have been fined or better still sacked. You cannot just blame players. If you recall. Rogers said after the united game "top four is going to be very difficult now". he gave up. never seen this in any lfc side in all my days.

But you are right. he is the manager and I hope he turns it round.

22 Jul 2015 21:07:21
Had he done that he would have lost the dressing room which was already, according to some reports, in turmoile at some points last season, definitley twards the end. Players have to feel a degree of awe to their manager before he can do that. BR is not there and I doubt if he will ever be.

I couldn't disagree more,

Lvg is a prick. If you're a manager of a team and publicly slate a new team members performance you're heading for trouble. Everywhere he's gone he's pissed off players and he'll eventually be shown the door once he's alienated himself

To shed a bit of light on the slight administrative problem holding up the Benteke deal. The computer systems at Melwood are prone to getting stuck on 3 or 4 letters. This has been an ongoing problem since Rodgers joined. The scouting search first got stuck on A,B & C which resulted in us signing Allen, Assaidi, Alberto, aspas, borini, continho, cissokho and can. The problem was thought to have been fixed but the signings mignolet, lambert, lallana, markovic, lovren, origi, manquillo, moreno, Mario and Milner highlighted the system had fixed on L,M, N & O. The systems was then reset but bogdan, Clyne and benteke have followed. Could have been worse beasant could have been our new back up keeper.

Hi ed,

Could you take the time to answer a question please?
When Liverpool sign Benteke, will that be the end of they're business in this window? I ask because so many fans seem to think the team is ready, when I believe it is far from and still needs work. I'm sure BR can see it needs more and with our net spend less than 30 mil Nd borini, lambert, balotelli and Enrique likely to leave it'll leave our our net spend around 10 mil. Surely then we could look and the like of Pedro or more urgently illarremndi. I mean lucas simply isn't good enough on the ball. I just feel when you have a midfield player who scores 0 goals every year it's just a disadvantage straight off. With regards Pedro I believe he will add vital goals. I like lallana he chips in with goals, that can be said for coutinho milner hendo and I'd imagine firminho too. But none of these players will exceed 10 league goals. And not all will exceed 7 r 8 it depends on who plays. Origi and ings will be around the same figures with a bit of luck given what will be limited playing time. Sturridge will miss 3 to 4 months standard and he's by far our best striker. Benteke is a good buy and may even get 20 if everything goes well. But that will still leave us well, well short of the numbers needed to challenge. I think Pedro is a proven goal scorer and I think the fact he's available and around the price markovic was, it'd be crazy not to even try.i also believe illarremndi would be a huge improvement on lucas Allen or can holding and could be the difference. He's just a very good passer and not afraid of a challenge, he can get around a lot better than the lads also. 14 mil and available? Just go buy him and give yourself a chance! That's what I think anyway.

what's the EDS opinion on illarremndi?
THANK YOU EDS great site.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - Net spend is far from "below 30". The club has too many players to register for the league and need to sell - already we know that there are problems as three players cannot be sold at the price being asked by the club - lots of decisions to be made.}

22 Jul 2015 17:50:39
I do not think we need more players, certainly not any attackers anyway,
I would have liked a GK, as somebody else mentioned our rivals all have top class keepers (Hart,Cech,Lloris,De Gea and Courtious) but I would rather keep Mignolet than buy for the sake of it.
All in all, fairly happy with the squad.

Agree3 Disagree3

22 Jul 2015 18:03:43
IMO it would be a disaster if we don't reinforce our poor midfield. BR seems convinced the owners on the lack of goals the reason we dropped out from top 4 last season ( only 50 goals ) and added 4 players + sturridge to buckle up this number. We haven't done anything on our defense with the same CB pairs for the next season including GK.

I got no idea what's the plan to stop conceding goals. Dropping skrtel is not the sole answer as there are too many flaws in our midfield. Someone press us high and our midfield buckled under pressure and we either concede a free kick or sit deep conceding a goal.

Lucas has to play consistently close to 50 games next season which in reality never happened and not going to be.

We are weak in midfield, it's a simple math compared to other teams.

I personally was expecting a CM / DM to arrive and would be disappointed if not.

Long season and what if Lucas gets injured? Screwed to bottom as majority of our midfielders are attack minded.

Every team above us have either bought or are linked with a top class DM except Liverpool says a lot.

We need to move players out and that's one stumbling block as majority of our players ( out of favor ) has been so poor last season that finding a new club is a mammooth task. ( else incur massive loss )

Just my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree8

22 Jul 2015 18:38:04
Anyone got an opinion of illarrimendi? I appreciate the situation the club finds itself in (own doing) but they can just not register players that are not wanted and they will need to move on to continue they're career. Borini in particular is acting the maggot. The fact remains our Squad isn't good enough to challenge. Our midfield isn't good enough at all defensively and our back line is weak. Not in terms of numbers but quality. All these far from good enough centre backs taking up space is the problem as is the situation in midfield. The fact remains we have Allen and can who will hardly ever feature in the centre of the park because they are not good enough. We have no wingers! We bought benteke and we have Milner whos better in the centre, markovic who won't feature and Ibe who as promising as he is doesn't release the anall when he should which won't aid the big man. I just think the club should be working harder to get Lucas and Allen off the books Allen hardly plays and lucas is not good enough. And ed our net spend isn't much more than 30.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - our net spend is much much higher. You clearly do not understand all the extra costs involved.}

more negative posts from the usual suspects, but on to pedro i don't think you can call him a prolific scoring midfeilder, since being promoted from barcelona b he's score 58 goals in 204 games not bad but hardly prolific and also he was promoted 7 years ago in 2008

prolific goal scoring midfeilders are hard to find and priced well outta reach

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 20:46:42
None of our centre backs are bad defenders. They just need protection in midfield. Harry's got a point that if Lucas gets injured which is likely, we have no other player that does what he does which is drop deep and pick up the ball from defenders and start the play. As well as defend. I thought Allen might have taken that role on in pre season, but he still doesn't have a clue when to drop deep and make himself an option for the defenders.

Red Rum

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 20:12:30
Sorry danaldinho, but I have to disagree with your comment. The team is in a much better place than it was last season and attack is definitely not what we need any more of. We have spent a lot more than you state. Fees are not the only thing that need to be paid. A lot more costs are involved and are kept more quiet than the asking price. Ings is an example in that although he may come as a free. He is not. With all the hidden costs that come underneath it and with him. He's more likely to be between 5-10mil to pay for. Something that is never mentioned on sports sites. Probably because it is too confusing for everyone to understand.
Buying pedro would be silly move too. It would be another expensive signing that isn't needed no more. I like the player. Good experience and I see your reason. Liked him seasons before too, mind he does tend to be a supersub more than anything else. But we needed him last year or the year before. When we didn't have markovic, lallana, coutinho, Sturridge, lambert, balotelli, borini or even sterling at the time. Now with firmino, Ings, Ibe, origi, Benteke and not mentioning the young boys. We are overcrowded. Pedro is just another space that need to push someone else out. And honestly I think any of our players are capable of everything he offers but at a younger age. You mention that everyone chips in for anything around 5-10 goals a season. With Benteke getting 20 if lucky and our other strikers contributing a few throughout the year. If that's true that looks really good actually pal. Last season explains those kind of things but if you look at other teams in previous years. Most have a standout player to get most goals. Last year being Kane, aguero, Costa. Etc. in past years for us being Suarez and Torres. Normally the next closest is someone with anything between 5-15 goals. That's just fine. Your saying Benteke is that for us. I get your point with Lucas too. But I don't think it's best valid considering his role and style to play. He's not designed to score nor does he look too. His role is simply to clean up any crap that comes at the defence. Which he does do quite well. He's a player who easily gets scapegoated and little attention. But actually helps the team out more than what is shown on TV. I agree Allen is just not up to scratch and I can't defend him since he just isn't as good as versa or best at whatever he's told to do. Just isn't his game and I think Liverpool is a bit too big or demanding for him. He's player that suited Swansea when there and they suited him better. But I don't think illarmendi is the answer to that. Again expensive and where does he play? For me I think the team is good. Being in middle we have 2 amazing engines in hendo and Milner. Can who will mature and hopefully just get better given the right chance. Rossiter and Lucas is there obivously. So the position isn't really needed. The defence is good apart from, Skrtel being the problem, but we all know that story and it won't change until he moves on or changes his game or someone realises this issue. Gk could be improved as mentioned but not sure who with and mig can get better. Come the end of last season. He wasn't too far from golden glove. I find any keeper we sign always begin off shaky but given time they improve loads. Reina and dudek being good examples. Shaky when they began but once in there prime. Nothing was getting last them. Lb is the only thing which hasn't been sorted. Gomez looks a quick fix but not naturally his position, but I just hope Moreno will get better.
Sorry to come across harsh. Not intentional. I just think your dreaming a little too much here. And what we got is currently too much as it stands. With said players potentially leaving. It will help balance the squad out no end.

I am sorry Can is an attack minded defender and would struggle at DM and rosditter is a kid who ll have to play at the highest level with no room for ever. more pressure on the kid is a terrible idea.

DM is one hell of a position and no Milner or Ings could solve this.

Lovren had the protection at Southampton and where is it at Liverpool?

Lucas gets injured early and then we count stars. simple.

We need a player in the middle that would make the game tickle, someone dropping, Collecting the ball fr defense and and move forward. Not afraid to put some tackles when opposition breaks

The reason Benteke and Fellaini eased passed our midfield was we never had a top DM in the middle.

We have only Lucas at the moment and he Cannot play 50 games a season.

Remember Chelsea struggled when Matic was out injured / Suspended.

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 23:08:31
We're in a far far better position than last year but agree a top DM is what our side really needs now - particularly if Lucas gets injured.

I do think we might yet see a Milner/Hendo/Coutinho midfield which will work against the weaker sides, likewise Can will be able to play DM and with experience will be a top player, but a top DM with plenty of experience to shore up defence against the top sides would make a big difference IMO.

Can we just stop it with the negatives for once, everybody is entitled to their opinion, but we can't really give criticism on pre season , we should be looking at it as a fresh start ( hopefully) and should be excited to see how we do, not saying "were not strong enough here , here and there" without a ball being properly kicked! We have to show faith, nobody becomes a good player without being given a fair chance! YNWA

Sorry for the negatives to everyone concerned:) just saying that it's always the wrong places we strengthen because BR is like a 9 year old fan in the transfer windows. United get sneiderlin and schweinsteger in the middle of the park. Chelsea went out and got matic and fabregas last year. Big yaya at city there with fernandinho and they still strengthened with Delph. The fact is I love Benteke I love firmino but the best signings for us so far are most likely Milner and Clyne. Not glamorous but do a great job. We can't COMPETE with the midfields ahead of us and it's a very important area. I mean Gerrard left and we didn't sign a player? If there's anyone who disagrees with me that our deep midfield player(s?) Can compete with the lads ahead of us that I outlined earlier than please just tell me which team we will finish ahead of and why. I mean we proved even in the 13/14 season that we couldn't score enough goals to outdo our terrible defence. That's with sas scoring 55 between them. Since then stevie left and we have signed no holding players and we have signed 1 first team cb that has been underwhelming. I feel that we needed to strengthen there. I mean Ings may go to 10 mil? Could a cb not have come in? A decent one with a bit of xp? Or a holding mid? Let Allen off? Origi was coming, Benteke, stirridge here and one of borini and balotelli probably not moving on means ings wasn't nessesary. I just feel the team is very top heavy with regards QUALITY and the defence will let us down again. How many points over the last 2 years has mignolet been responsible for dropping? So? We buy. bogdan. Ok cool how's begovic? I dunno maybe I'm playing to much Football manager but I just feel we need to a dress the positions that let us down last year.

May not be the most popular of folks byt agents are the real winners in football. What I find interesting is if you are 16 or over you are allowed to have a agent. At 16, 17 18, 19 or even 20 I personally think you are too young to have a high pressured business agent running your future. Kids heads are being turned for all the wrong reasons by these gangsters in the game looking for the quickest buck around. I personally believe you should be over 21 to have a agent, anybody under the age of 21 should be advised by a guardian or a close family member, though I believe that would be a infringement on a person's human rights? (maybe a Ed could clarify this) but something does have to change. Clubs are being held to ransom, have to shift millions each year out to these people just to keep them happy. If your reaching the twilight of your career and are seeking the best possible deal, because after all football is a short career then yes, I can see the benefit but for the children coming up in the game its doing nothing but harming their development and also harming the clubs around them.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with human rights.}

We have like 10 centre backs I know you obviously think there's a lack of quality in that group which I kind of agree with but this summer we've tied down 2 to new contracts 1 will expect to be first choice. We also in the last 2 years spent nearly 40m on 2 others that will want to be played in the other spot. Add to that ilori can Gomez wisdom on top of those that I've named and you'll see why we won't be buying a centre back anytime soon.

I've been unable to follow the youth sides last season, and to be honest I've probably seen him play about 4 times, I saw him in the league cup of course and he played well. So my question is, how highly is he regarded by other coaches do you think, obviously at Liverpool he is highly rated and well our fans definitely tend to completely over rate our youngsters. So I was wondering if anyone knows how he is regarded outside of Liverpool.

Hi Eds, regarding this rumour of Sakho to Roma. I'm not sure I fully understand the FFP Rules but as we've spent about 80M so far this window and have received about 50M (Sterling & Coates), is there a need to sell someone like Sakho as I don't see us getting much for Borini, Enrique, Balotelli. Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - we need to sell people yes.}

22 Jul 2015 15:51:11
We have got to reduce the amount of players we have on our books at senior level. We are overloaded with defenders and midfielders

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 17:45:29
Will be a terrible move selling Mamadou he's a great centre half who will hopefully get better. Agreed we need money in now to balance the books but I'd hope we are looking to recoup this through selling

Lambert.
Balotelli
Borini.
Enrique.

And possibly Allen and Lucas (as I don't think Rodger's wants him). If these all did leave I'd expect a new midfielder (illaramendi or Kovacic) and that would be all the business completed .

Loans a different kettle of fish obviously. I'd say the possible players who could go on loan would be between.

Rossiter.
Teixera.
Wisdom.
Gomez.
Yesil
Ojo.
Sinclair (if still with us).

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying all these will be loaned but I do think it will be out of these who are loaned.

Ed02 totally agree with you there has been a total change in our supporters atitude.i do not subscribe to blindly following my team and the players are their to be shot at but not before they kicked a ball and not at some of the levels.

The wealth of media has made us all to over analytical on our teams and our players .I do also think lack of success for 20+ years for the title has made us slightly bitter and over critical. However I do believe that players are also not helping themselves with increase of exposure words do get twisted and used against them.

Liverpool has spent stupid sums to close the gap so excuse of man City and Chelsea billionaire sugar daddies has somewhat faded. I have my reservation on some players and get angry with others but new season new start will get behind them and judge them as the season unfolds. Good luck to benteke and some of the new signings as I remember the abuse Henderson/ lucus got and now one is the captain and the other is an integral part of the team.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has a billionaire sugar daddy remember - but if the club are spending just for the sake of it (surely not) perhaps they should think about the players they are buying. How many games did ยฃ22M buy the club with Aspas, Ilori and Alberto? How successful were the expensive loans of Victor Moses, Nuri Sahin and Aly Cissokh? Markovic was a major mistake. Balotelli was a major mistake. Borini has been around for 3 years and hardly played. Assaidi and Yesil?

If they are simply spending money to catch up - maybe some kid who plays fantasy football games on his computer would be better.}

Has his drop in form the past 2 years been due to sulking or injury's ?

Has he lost any pace? Can he get back to that first season Benteke if be gets his attitude sorted?

In fairness, ed, the injury question is a fair one, mostly because us fans are not well aware of the different types of injuries and how they impact a player.
From what I've seen, Benteke has recovered well from his injury, and I wouldn't think he has lost any of his physicality. As for the attitude, browsing through the Villa forums I do not see many complaints. He does have dips in form throughout the season, but this is entirely different, and the reason we have a rotational squad. So again, I do not think we will have any problem there.
Let us just hope that the system and the tactics are well sorted for this season, and we might just see a surprising number of goals from Benteke - ultimately, I think it is the diversity of his skills that has won Rogers over, and which might be deciding factor in him establishing himself as a top name, provided the midfield behind him live up to their creative potential which is rather substantial.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Tell us about this attitude problem that needs to be "sorted" then?}

Goal scoring ratio isn't a measure of his form tbh.

What I mean by that is in his first season he was incredible and the goals came because of his level of play.

The other 2 seasons seem to be more getting the ball tl him more directly to get the goals.

First season villa played counter attack, direct play etc they played really well but for the past few seasons they seem to have had to play more direct to christian.

I was curious as wether this was because maybe be slowed down through injurys or he wasn't putting himself about as much because of his attitude. Tbh I'm more worried about Torres and his injurys and wondering wether that has happened to benteke.

Sorry for bothering you ed2.

The way the moronic questions like this could be avoided is by actually searching and reading the posts. His injuries and apparent sulking has all been covered in great depth over the last few weeks. The fact the original poster has no idea about bentekes form the last few months of the season really shows a total lack of football interest. If I was checking the league table every 6 months and watching 3 games a year i'd probably be asking the same questions.

22 Jul 2015 14:59:36

Some supporters will gain knowledge from this site and may be just starting to show a interest in football, i'd advise anybody who falls into that bracket to not listen to people like Swish.

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 15:26:51
Anfield Apple that's not what I'm saying. But If people took time to read some posts - any posts they would see the eds repeated responses of 'read the posts or try the search engine' as a first point of call. If the eds were to spend all their time actually responding to each and everyone one of these then it wouldn't leave much time or effort to respond to unusual or genuinely valid questions or pride general opinion. That to me is what makes the site valuble, interactive and enjoyable. I'm by no means the ' question police' but if people put so little effort into reading the site surely they can only expect a similar level of response?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 13:22:09
But Ed002 this is also by far the most active page on this forum, which is probably why there is a staggering level of abuse towards, well, everyone connected with the club.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It is but the other sites have near none. After most games 90% is abuse. Look at the abuse the likes of Benteke, Milner etc. have had.}

22 Jul 2015 13:33:29
In fairness a lot is abuse, but personally don't think it is wrong if you think a player isn't good enough if you explain or debate it as long you don't abuse the player (is a fine line) as is something most people pay good money for - if you paid for food and it was terrible have a right to complain but similarly isn't on the shout or abuse the staff - not saying I'm innocent of it but try my best.

Worry about how he fits in as we don't cross the ball or play it long (not that I believe we should swap to that but think mixing it up is good and is an option he offers - see drogba) but if you ignore him and studge playing together can see how it could work well! Just a toss up to if he fits in against having an out an out striker which i remember nearly everyone complaining about us lacking last season!

As for form, villa have struggled massively over the past 2-3 seasons and imagine that makes thinks a lot harder especially when your the player expected to win every game. Will be pressure on him at Liverpool but will have Milner, Henderson, sturridge, lallana, firmino, coutinho etc who will be expected to win games where at villa they didn't have those other players to rely on. Can argue agbonglahor but never been a big scorer, though produced the odd winner.

Interesting Ed002, I wasn't trolling you by the way I just don't quite understand why the original poster warranted the 'Liverpool fans are this that and what ever' rant as it was a question to do with a previous injury on a player we are signing? previously operating a reasonably successful football site myself, I personally haven't come across the individual issues you have had with Liverpool supporters, that's all I am saying.

To be fair swish I haven't seen a post were the eds have said the injurys have or haven't affected him. So how do I search that ?

I come on here everyday so I know pretty much all the posts on here, if I ask something its because I don't feel its been addressed previous !!

The sane goes for if 2 weeks ago the eds said something about Benteke, then its fair to be able to ask the same question 2 weeks later to see if there have been any developments.

Granted not with questions that dint have changing outcomes but if its a case of are we going to for reus and the eds say I haven't heard anything then for 2 weeks the papers are blabbering on about it then its fair to come on and see if the eds have hears anything in the 2 weeks since it last got asked

You need to stop acting like a milk monitor on this page though, if you are only here to make yourself feel better by putting people down and trolling then there's no point tbh pal.

I still haven't had an answer foe my question but I don't suppose I will but ill ask again in shorter terns.

I know Hernanes was mentioned as being a good option in past posts but unless the squad is trimmed substantially (mainly midfield) then no one else would bought to give us that option. Yeah our stingy owners need to dig up another hundred million so we don't miss out on all our Top Targets. Then we can have an unstoppable team with our new 0-0-10-0 formation.
Mignolet, Ibe, Gotze, Menez, Firmino, Markovic, Pedro, Couthinho, Turan, Lallana, Reus. Magic! :)

Higgins are you referring to my formation? It's perfect!
Mignolet with his awesome distribution picking out any one of the 10 attacking midfielders who will all then do cartwheels and somersaults before banging in the goals. We can't lose!

Hey,

I was wondering after browsing through the online papers this morning, if it's true regarding the pedro and digne rumours and if so what would happen with ibe and moreno. Personnel I think we are going to end up unbalanced if rodgers keeps buying number attacking players. I'd have a look at illarramendi to steady the ship.

Hi all

Just watched a YouTube clip of Firmino vs Depay. I know those sort of clips can be very misleading, but if you aren't sure about Firmino's quality I'd encourage you to check it out.

Anyway it got me thinking and I was wondering who you guys think will have a better first season? Firmino has the advantage of being a bit older and has played in a harder league ( no disrespect to the Dutch league). I personally think that Depay will turn out to be the better buy, but Firmino may have a better first season.

Thoughts?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

22 Jul 2015 04:27:45
I think depay was the better purchase, but who knows. We will be in the position to judge pretty soon.

Agree1 Disagree4

22 Jul 2015 04:59:30
Depay is better I think, he has everything to succeed. Firmino also has a lot a quality, of course, but he lacks the physical aspect and the power of Depay

Agree0 Disagree10

22 Jul 2015 06:09:01
Liverpool's concrete interest in DEPAY shows he is an excellent player.

Agree0 Disagree7

22 Jul 2015 06:14:34
Think Firmino will have a better debut season but expect Depay to make a bigger impact over a long period of time - nothing about him being "better", just that his style is more sorted to the premier league (pace, power).

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 07:10:41
Depay seems to score many more goals (including his first for ManU in their recent friendly).

Agree1 Disagree5

22 Jul 2015 08:50:12
If wishes were horses, we'd have both.

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 09:09:29
In 2014 Firmino was ranked as the 4th best player on earth behind just Messi, Ronaldo and Reus.

Depay is still a kid. What a silly question. Firmino is on another level entirely right now.

Agree5 Disagree5

22 Jul 2015 09:35:33
Ems ranked according to who?

Agree6 Disagree2

22 Jul 2015 10:01:28
According to EMS mate, if Liverpool would have signed him u can bet your bottom dollar he would of posted a post about how Depay was a far better pick etc.

Agree6 Disagree2

22 Jul 2015 10:01:50
Neither Reus or Firmino are in the top 4 in the world, or even the top 20 hardly.

Agree1 Disagree2

22 Jul 2015 10:06:24
You cannot really answer this, as much is dependent upon how the team around them plays. We could quite easily make Firmino look bad or good. and the same can be said of Man Utd and Depay. Firmino is our player and so I hope that his strengths will shine through this coming season.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 10:24:34
Not seen enough of either to be fair.
Both have good reputations and are obviously talented.
If your going to push me for an answer I would say firmino will have the better season, older, currently better, already moved country once so it won't be much of a culture shock, especially coming from Germany, he also links up well with coutinho so there is already one player at the club who knows his game and can link up well.
United have a good player there though.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 11:09:15
for me it has to be firmino because he is a brazilian and he is a liverpool player

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 11:30:21
According to Who Scored.

Hence why Firmino and Reus have been linked with Barcelona and Depay has been linked with Man United and Newcastle.

I can only assume none of you claiming Depay is better have ever seen either play, because it's not even open for debate.

Agree0 Disagree5

22 Jul 2015 12:23:27
Ah the stats are out again.

They have firmino 9th, They also have James Rodriguez 7th over all.
Says everything you need to know. I thought you were a sqwaka man any way.You were 2 years ago

I love how when stats go your way, they are the most relevant information, yet when they don't you put in little caveats and say to other who use stats,''stats are only reliable when used in conjuction with other factors'' or ''stats aren't everything''

It's kinds cute really.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 12:56:41
I'm with ems here! People tho king otherwise are judging it on hopes and dreams!

Agree0 Disagree1

22 Jul 2015 13:55:44
EMS where are you making this up from? Whoscored has Firmino as 9th followed by Naldo! Says a lot about those ratings.

Not saying that Firmino isn't better, but that is awful justification. For the record, I think Firmino is better now but Depay will be better

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 14:53:10
Stats mean NOTHING on the field of play which is the true reality of the game. Nobody knows who will be better btw the two because only time will tell so what`s the point asking especially if bias is involved in such a prediction as it clearly is here?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2015 15:32:36
Adam with a shocker, Depay was linked with LIVERPOOL, BAYERN AND PSG. says a lot about Liverpool then?
