A guy I work with, who use to manage non league footie down south, told me over lunch that he knows one of the physios at LFC. He said he was with him at Reading and Swansea, so brought him to Pool. Of course, I asked if he had any info, he replied not on individual players. But he did say that Brendan is obsessed with La Liga and wants to emulate the style as much as possible. He said we are scouting Spain like no man's business, so not to be surprised if we sign more players from that league. Obviously I know this is fairly well documented, but its honest gossip, from a credible source.

Peace.

Just watched Rodgers latest press conference . Hats off to him for staying professional but from the body language I'm 100 Perct sure Suarez is going. Just please god not to another prem team

Barneswasbest

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why does it matter to you who he goes to. Don't understand the logic there

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez going to another prem team would be like your ex girlfriend (who you're still in love with) going out with your best mate!
No logic about it! {Ed002's Note - She dumped you because of your spots and that nasty little habbit you have with ball poit pens. Get over it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To the second poster in response to my first post.

It matters because Arsenal are realistically the team we need tosurpass to get top 4. I think Suarez needs to go given his attitude but he's a fantastic player and would strengthen them / weaken us. Thus his move would be a 'classic 6 pointer'

I struggle to see your logic in asking why does it matter?

I think BR has made some top signings and if suarez stays we have a good shout at top 4

One thing that struck me when I looked at the squad that went on the tour. It's been a while that I've looked at a LFC squad without seeing at LEAST a handful of players on big wages that should never have been signed. The squad now is really moving in the right direction. BR has only been there a year.

A lot of good work done IMO and a lot of players (and big wages) moved on before he could really build his squad. A few more quality additions and BR and his team now have a year under their belt on the training ground with the squad and I think we're in great shape.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes we have archived so much by saving money, wow, I'm confident now

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree to the OP, to the 2nd though, would you rather see Poulsen, Jovetic, N'gog, etc. wasting space or would your rather see our current squad which is all on the same page. Up and coming players with a lot more to offer.

"I am very strong on the values of the club, where we are and how we operate.

"Football and society is different nowadays, the [transfer] market is totally different and players can create different ways to open it up.

"But I have always said that there is no player bigger than Liverpool Football Club and that is something we are very strong on.

Comments made by Brendan at the press conference regarding LS. Good on you Brendan.

Ed you said earlier you want Bernard or Turan to replace Suarez so obviously you don't want a main striker? Do you really expect either of these two to have the impact if Suarez and the goals seeming as they are both new to the Keague and one is 20 years old? See some sense with Sturridge aspas and Borini leading the line we will be battling with Sunderland are you an person? {Ed052's Note - I don't expect us to sign either at all. So it's a pointless question. Sorry}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Jul 2013 22:32:17
Hi ed's
Obviously a lot of cissokho rumours flying around today. Not sure how true these are in regard to Liverpool but I'd imagine its quite likely? However my north east contact is sure Sunderland are also tracking the player. He seems to think things are still at an early stage so unless Liverpool are well ahead of Sunderland in the negotiation process don't expect anything to happen quickly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just to change the subject from the nonstop Suarez posts, I'd like to gauge opinion on Daniel Agger.

Whilst a lot on here are very quick to slate Johnson for his poor defending, no one ever seems to mention that Agger isn't great in the air and is prone to an error or two himself. I'll admit, technically he's a gifted player and perhaps that's why his inadequacies get overlooked.

Also, if we aspire to play Champions League, I doubt very much whether his body could handle the 2 games every week that is necessary.

So whilst I love his commitment, rate him as a player, I wouldn't be as gutted as some on here if he was sold. But only on the premise that the fee was decent and we signed a proven replacement.

Thoughts?

Raoul

Believable0 Unbelievable0

For a centre half I think Agger is very weak, I believe the signing of Toure was vital and he'll show Agger AND sKyrtl up this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to agree with you. In the Champions League etc, what a player. But against Stoke, Everton, West Ham etc tends to struggle. Too many headed goals against him from set pieces last season. That's the EPL for ya.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't be happy or sad unless you know who is being brought in to replace him!if it was Bramble, I think you'd be pretty upset!

Nick

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with this 100%. I am by no means saying I WANT him to go, but like you said he is prone to some errors and is not irreplaceable. I think we ALL love Agger for a number of different reasons, but if a GOOD offer were to come in it should be considered.

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely agree. This is why it is necessary to have a dominant CB alongside Agger to "go with the opposition number 9".

Agger is very good at reading the game and intercepting through balls and good at tackling and bringing out the ball from the back. He is susceptible from corners too.

But at the moment, he remains our best CB though I have high hopes for Wisdom, who I think could turn out to be one of the best CB in Europe.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

I kind of agree with this post although I think in open play he's as good as any centre back in the league. Where he does fall down is set pieces. He has cost is numerous goals just by not concentrating and losing his man at set pieces. If he tightens that up I'll have no complaints with him.
Skillo

Agree0 Disagree0

So he's weak and not the best in the air. Strong men don't win matches technically gifted players do, look at Barcelona. Agger is technically great and he's been our best centre half for some seasons now. Pointless critique.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would honestly consider Wisdom for CB on a regular basis, give him a chance and I think although young, will shine like an absolute star for us! He's ready!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol our best defender for the past 4 seasons is now not that good and prone to headed goals - how stupid are you all? Here's the skinny: no team never concedes goals (although Bayern had a pretty good stab at that record last season), we've conceded goals for a number of reasons. Agger may have been caught out once or twice but that happens to every defender - to say he is weak in the air and that we should consider bids for him is so moronic is makes me have flashes of rage. Thank god none of you have any say in how the club is run. Consider offers for Agger? LOL awful suggestion, would put the club back seasons selling our best, most technically gifted centre back - who would be replace him with!? And if you say Papa just crawl under a rock

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I just went though banter 2 and 3 and it was on more of todays banter so ed if I see u I get to smack u haha just to save other posters the job

{Ed052's Note - Basically 1) the club want to sell LS. 2) The club want him to hand in a TR, so 3) they can keep his £2m.
BUT, 1) LS wants his £2m, so 2)wont want to hand in a TR, but 3) has taken legal advice and so could say he will waive the bonues, so that 4) he gets a move. It means LS wont, 1) hand in a TR, 2) hand in a TR, and still not get a move. Does that clear it up?} {Ed052's Note - hey thanks bud}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not the OP but can you give a search term I could use to find it? I couldn't find it in banter 2 {Ed052's Note - it's just been found by a lovely poster!! My favourite poster of the day!}

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not so much as suing but challenging LFC's position on him. Suarez and his representatives believe 40 million pounds is enough for him to leave while LFC maintain it's only a clause that allows bidders who match this clause to talk to the player, while LFC don't have to accept the bid.

Suarez has asked for outside legal help to challenge or assess this.

Did you have someone in mind when you said this, 52?

Sj {Ed052's Note - I've had this question twice now. Simply, no. But of 4 summer signings, 3 are over 24 already. So, in the next 10 weeks of transfer window (this summer and January) I think its extremely likely we'll get more. Cissokho, par example}

I have it on good authority that Liverpool have contacted the representatives of Scottish born Irish international James McCarthy, however Wigan are playing hard ball over the fee and clubs such as Tottenham, Everton and Fulham are also sniffing around. Have you heard this ed? Also if Suarez were to leave which is looking likely who in your opinion should be Liverpools top 3 targets to replace him? Damiao? Higuain? Soldado?

JohnO {Ed052's Note - We had interest ages ago. Not anymore, he is overpriced and not kicked on. None of those three are reasonable. I want Bernard or Turan}

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes he signed {Ed052's Note -

Agree0 Disagree0

He has signed on a "kids contract" I think. I don't expect LFC to announce this as he is going to play for the U-18's.

The real AG {Ed052's Note - he'd be reserves}

Agree0 Disagree0

He'll be U18 initially, moving up to U21 as soon as he's deemed good enough - could be a year, could be a week! Neither U18 or U21 have a strictly defined squad as players develop at completely diferent rates when that young. Look at Sinclair, who played for the first team when still an U16. Things change so rapidly where youth players are concerned but it's good to know they all have a chance if they perform.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2013 19:29:04
I think the fact that there's been no news from LFC about Suarez suggests to me that the conversations have been bad news, seems like all that they're waiting on is a reasonable offer. If he wanted to stay they would have been crowing very loudly about it by now, for me I can't wait to get rid, far too much trouble, good player yes but NOT irreplaceable and the sooner this is settled and our squad is ready to go the better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Proper talks yet to take place with LS and BR/LFC, although unlikely that LS has changes his mind from what he told BR at the end of last season. Wants CL. Wants to move abroad. Real Madrid will likely bid next week, but seeing as it will likely be a pittance i'm hopeful it will trigger PSG or Monaco to bid £50m and we get rid. If he's staying, he needs to announce it pdq, but i'd be amazed.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2013 19:13:51
I would find it extremely funny if Suarez is sold to Arsenal and we finish above them in the league and they miss out on CL!

Lets be honest they are unlikely to win the league or the CL!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But they always finish above us

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2013 19:43:26
they finished ahead with a good 12-15 points above us from past 4 seasons.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been thinking the same thing mate! Would be epic!

Ryanwhittington

Agree0 Disagree0

So they finished above us if we want CL football we going to have to finish above a few teams that have been better than us for the last few seasons!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes and arsenal have won what in the last 8 years? Oh yes nothing

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly think we will win something before Arsenal do
Arsenal, 8 Years nothing whilst we have won the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
Also been in the Champion League final and Super Cup final
Suarez should stay and become a legend, if he leaves he will join the Owen, Torres failures
RM I can understand, Arsenal = mistake

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently we are negotiating a new contract extension with Suarez increased money and exit clause for next summer - probably to allow him to leave if CL football isn't achieved!

He may not accept the renewed contract but shows intent from us to keep him.

Interesting times yet again for Liverpool.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks ed19. Read my question again it wasn't clear. Sorry. I meant do you think there is a list of targets A (stays) list B (he's sold).
Think we've done good business so far and not being greedy but we wanted all targets done early but it's clear we still need/ want more. Just think nothing will happen until they know which list to use.

hi eds, the fans on here who want us to sell assidi, and coates and even borini make me laugh, these players have not had the game time for any fan to make their minds up, to see coates play to his top level is by watching the copa america when uragauy won it, the lad was making his debut and he won the young player of the competiton beating the likes of neymar, every time I see assaidi play I've like what I've seen, and with borini he has been injured plus having the like of suarez and sturridge ahead of you then its going to tough for him as he is only young, let's be fans and support all the players who have not had a chance to shine a game here and there does not give us the whole picture

mickey b

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It is not about having game time. They are not needed in the team. We have far better players in their position, so why keep paying salaries to players they won't have a playing time?

Hello Eds, do you know of Liverpool making any academy signings this summer or are we showing any interest in any?

Thanks. {Ed052's Note - Its almost impossible to find out as theres no point blurting out about them. Canos maybe?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The Academy is pretty packed atm so only Canos signed with Chirivella on the way. Yan Dhanda and Herbie Kane joined the 14-15 age group. Some talk that we might consider taking on Connor Hunte, whom Chelsea got rid of for bad behaviour, but reckon that's why we won't bother! Former Liverpool player John Aldridge has slammed Arsene Wenger for making a 'derisory' bid of £30 million.

He says if Arsene really wants Luis Suarez he should come back with a deal of Jack Wilshere plus £15 million plus.

Sure, Arsene is taking note of that right now. Or wait how about £15 million plus "ARSENAL LEGEND" Maruone Chamakh?

lolssssss

Hi Eds, is it possible that Suarez started this transfer saga to get a higher weekly wage. Since he signed a contract extension last season, the only way would be for LFC to offer a new contract however by stating he wants to leave, I'm sure he knew LFC will try keep him at the club and have new discussions with his demands? Could that also be the reason Reina's wage bill had to be offloaded so Suarez can get an increase?

Redman 4Life {Ed052's Note - No, he started the sage to move}

I just cannot see us bidding for Soldado.
It doesn't make sense, he's good but at 28 it would be against our policy to pay 25m for him.
Sounds like the press are just bored and trying to drum up a transfer rivalry between Spurs and us.
Can easily see him joining Spurs and the press trying to let on we lost out on a player again.
I'd be amazed and astounded if Rodgers has been given the go ahead on this.

We need to replace downing allen borini johnson with top quality players they aren't really good enough {Ed052's Note - I agree with Johnson there}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I personally feel the club will have a gem of a squad when we have finally removed the following players from our squad and replaced them with better quality : Brad Jones, Coates, Spearing, Assaidi, Pacheco, Downing and possibly Skrtel.
All cannot be removed this window but I hope all these are gone by next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

True but u need to remember just because downing and skrtle don't fit in to system very well we still need a strong squad yes sell skrtle and downing IF we can sign better players for the starting 11 but I'd keep them right now as aspas will be downings replacement on the right and unless we sign a top CB I'd keep skrtle to

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson is class. I can forgive him a few bad games now and then. So many people are quick to write players off for one or two mistakes. Bizarre. He'll be one of the best FBs in the league this season. Yet again. {Ed052's Note - Johnson is terrible}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed are you being sarcastic about Johnson?, because I think he's one of the best attack minded right backs in the league. {Ed052's Note - No, he really is, well, rubbish}

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson is lazy, disinterested, prone to error and lacks the brains to improve these things. So many times last season he made runs into the opposition half only to give the ball away. Almost every run he makes ends up with the opposition getting the ball back. Very very frustrating to watch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Johnson is sh. e till he pulls on an England shirt. then cld be 1 of the best right backs in England

As I have posted previously - the MAIN function of a full back is the

Agree0 Disagree0

Think a lot of people won't realise how good glen is till he's gone would love kelly to prove me wrong but don't think he has the legs for bombing down the line more a future cb i'd say just my opinion

mayhem 1981

Agree0 Disagree0

Glen is an awful defender, truly awful. But if he were willing to move forward into a midfield position would be a much better player. His attributes are speed, crossing, willingness to get forward and willingness to shoot.

His bad points are, lackof concentration, poor positional awareness, and terrible marking.

This all points to wide midifeld if you ask me.

Nevada

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no way Johnson is terrible. He may not be great either though. He does somethings well and some inconsistently but he pretty much epitomises a modern FB.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's an attacking fullback and good at attacking, but not defending at all! He loses concentration and just seems disinterested 90% of the time. Hopefully this is the last season he is in the starting 11. Getting a young, powerful cb should be our priority this year and next year hopefully find a rb replacement. Don't want too much change.

Hello Eds,
a question to Ed052
any idea why Joao Texeira wasn't taken on the tour when the likes of Spearing and Assaidi who have no future at LFC have travelled.
Is he with the U-21's?
I really rate the lad and it would have been nice to give him a chance to challenge Coutinho for the AM role especially with Suso on loan. {Ed052's Note - The reason Spearing and Assaidi went is for exactly the reason you say - so that teams can have a look at them, and know that they will be ready to play when they sign them. I was disappointed that more youngsters didn't go on the tour, but we have so many now, that we just forget who is actually a youngster. At United, Cleverly is seen as a youngster, and he's what, 23 or 24. We have Hendo, who is only 22, Ibe, 17 ffs, we sometimes forget actually how young our players are. Texeira is very highly rated by the club though, and is available for loan.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good to hear that Ed.
I thought maybe the club didn't rate him that highly. I reckon he is another one that can really come leaps and bounds given the chance at AM. That is why I hope the club rather buys a LW than an AM. {Ed052's Note - He needs to go on a loan move]

Agree0 Disagree0

Nacho, Sama, Smith, Yesil and Pelosi would all benefit from a loan as well, especially Yesil from whom i'm expecting big things. Morgan could use a loan again too.

Quick question if we sign Aly Cissokho is he likely to start ahead of Enrique, or do we think Enrique maybe pushed forward.

Whats peoples thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not much in it. Both will push each other to better form, but likely that Enrique will begin the season as first choice til Aly settles in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed052 who's better in your opinion? {Ed052's Note - I haven't seen enough of Aly to compare, but he is a very good signing, who I know is a good player. But Enrique is poor. I will tell you after pre season}

You haven't seen enough of Aly Sissoko to middle a reasonable comparison but I'm paraphrasing here's bit you seem to think Enrique ain't much kop and the highlights you have seem of Aly put him in the team straight office the batt if we signed him.
I think you're wrong about Enrique being poor but you're more than entitled to your opinion. And this he's a French international he must be the dogs b's.
In my opinion Enrique bar a lapse in his first season has been one of the more consistent players, and had also been one of the few players to Crack Rodgers system from the get go.
He does have his faults but I'd love Sissoko to come in for strength in depth. The player in form gets the Jersey not just the bare eleven it more or less has been going in in most positions last season. Theirs nowt like a motivation then a me signin in your spot. Plenty to be excited about next season.
JohnBoy {Ed052's Note - I Knew that someone would pick me up on this. What I mean is that I haven’t seen much of Cissokho, so cannot detail all his attributes, so therefore cannot compare him like for like with Enrique. @JohnBoy

Enrique is a donkey. He constantly gives away possession, is caught out of position regularly, makes mistakes which are guaranteed to cost us goals and on top of all that blows very hot and cold. He needs replacing - not sure Cissokho is the right answer at left back however if it only a loan deal the risk really is minimal. providing this deal isn't a figment of someones imagination.

Please remember people! Liverpool have a budget to follow this summer, and we are looking to spend our money responsibly, unlike other years before.

This is being shown with our first four summer signings, have some what corresponded with the players going out, resulting us to break even with players like carroll, shelvey, generating cash.

We are being sensible with our money and this is shown with pepe on his way out, on a loan deal, freeing up 100k on wages, BR today was quoted saying we are in for a LB, as this position is lacking the quality, in back-up. I don't have an inside of our transfers, but I've heard of a possible move for Aly cissokho, on a loan with an option to buy, at the end of the season, thus not spending any money this summer, and it gives him the pressure to show his talents, getting the most out of the player. This is Good idea in my opinion, we don't want players who are happy to sit on their huge wage bill.

The attacking option BR wants, for me, looks to be Ben Arfa, at the price of under 10m, could be a great signing, I know he has his Problem with injuries but our medical team is one of the best and can get the best out of him, but I think he is the 2nd option behind Erikson, but we are having trouble generating the money, and are put off with him talking himself up to other clubs.

This is my opinion of what will happen, if it does, I'd be happy, and if one of our defenders go out (Coates), expect Illori to come in, with the cash.

Great site Eds! I read up everyday

Bowed with compulsory purchase option. This is how he will leave Liverpool target Aly Cissokho with an operation that seems on track as pointed Esportiva Taula Radio Nou. A footballer, Aly Cissokho, who leaves with more pain than glory without profitable the nearly seven million it cost to Valencia last season from Olympique Lyon.

In this triad is Cissokho, who has not caught a good season and go away to Liverpool on loan for a million euros with a purchase obligation that would be around between 3 and 5 million euros. With an agreement in principle between the parties, it appears that the last hurdle is the form of payment and paperwork, which could accelerate in the coming days for the french defense Valencia to leave as soon as possible and put under the command of Brendan Rodgers soon.

Sorry for copy paste, but this is what Deporte Valenciano is reporting.

After arriving in Australia, Luis Suarez has been told he is staying at the football club unless a 'very appealing offer' is received. The owners, in particular, have put their foot down and see no feasible reason to let the Uruguayan go for anything less than Fernando Torres' £50m. Due to the amount of negative media attention Suarez has catalysed during his time in Liverpool, they know that this would be a potential bargaining chip for potential suitors. Therefore, rather than let Suarez go for less than £50m, we are to keep him and give him a chance to redeem himself on the pitch to increase his market value. Once his profile improves, which they believe it will, they may consider a sale and in turn, improve the team's chances of qualifying for the Champions League 2014/15. They see Suarez as an investment and the 'shares' right now aren't worth taking out of the market, their asset has yet to reach its full potential on the field and off it. Subsequently, over the course of the next few days, Liverpool are to offer him an improved contract, matching Steven Gerrard's wages, and therefore higher the £40m release clause that allows the player to talk to clubs directly to £50m, due to the player's improvement last season on the pitch and enabling the club to go for a 'world class' price tag.

Hope this makes things clearer for people out there.

Positions to strengthen;

Left back : Cissokho (loan + to sign after the end of the season is the only linked player)

Attacking midfielder - I don't know any name other than Eriksen unless we buy a left winger and push countinhio to the centre.

central defender - Alderwield or Ilori

I think the biggest weakness of our team is that we are extremely vulnerable to crosses and set pieces. How many times last season did we had our hearts in our mouth when a cross was whipped in? I really hope that we address this situation as soon as possible. Even though agger and toure are good players they are not dominant in the air. We need some one in the vidic, hyypia mould who would really attack the ball when in the air. And apparently Mignolet is also susceptible to crossing. If we are to have a good season and finish in the top 4 we certainly need to work on this area. I am sure Brendan and his staff have identified and are working hard to solve this particular problem. Any opinion from the eds and fellow kopites would be appreciated.
cheers!
YNWA {Ed052's Note - I agree with all you say basically. Toure will help the situation a lot, if and when he plays. He is very good in the air, and strong. Aslo, that is one of Migs weak points, flapping, which you point out.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Toure's stats may be skewed because of the limited games he played last year (~12) but I believe his aerial duel % wins is around 40 and most if not all CBs are pushing 60%. Skrtel for example has a 70% aerial duel win rate. Toures stats for interceptions and mins per tackle are better than Skrtel/Agger/Carraghers though.

I rate Toure highly, but I disagree with comment that he is strong in the air. I saw him lose a few headers against PNE as well.

Similarily, Mignolet's successful catches/punches are much higher as a percentage than Reina's over the last 3 seasons. His missed crosses are considerably lower as well.

All he does is throw names out to make it LOOK like we're after quality players, when the fact is we don't have the cash. Laughable. I'll guarantee, no BIG signings. Another disappointing transfer window. {Ed052's Note - haha, the window hasn't finished and your complaining. Whats a big signing to you? 40m, 50m? Aspas is a big signing, so is Migs, and Toure, o, and Alberto. Every signing is big, because they can all make a huge impact. Him being 'Down Under' make sno difference to transfers}

We are not signing any more attacking players as Suarez is staying for this season.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Are you sure about that? I feel we might go for Soldado

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if Suarez stays we will still look to sign one more attacking player. Rodgers has said he wants a left-back (Cissokho) and one attacking player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Roberto Soldado is been touted but he is 28 and will cost about £25m not sure FSG will go for that but you never know.

I just want the whole Suarez thing to be resolved soon rather than just before the season starts proper.

I wouldn't mind getting an experienced striker (without massive cost) to come in for a couple of seasons until we are firmly entreched in the top 4.

With Harnik committing and Abdelloue joining Stuggart Ibisevic is one I think worth taking. Scored 15 goals last year and has a great Bundesliga scoring record and although nearly 29 has a few great years in front of him.

Or maybe a longshot Pazzini of AC? With Robinho and Mad Mario committing to club and El Sharaarawy all competing for spots not only with the club but for spots for the Azzurri for the World Cup as well his best bet would be to impress elsewhere (us)

And with Schelotto joining Inter surely Alvarez or Guarin are ripe for the picking but wouldn't be cheap (10-15 million) as attacking mids (both versatile)

Loved the noise in Indonesia but Wednesday night we will amp it up further in Melbourne!

Ed052, you should give up on trying to convince people Lucas is good. Unfortunately, he is only rated 78/80 on FIFA, which means people thick enough to rate a player based on a video game will never realise he is good.

In reality he isn't the best in his position. However there are seriously only a hand full of players I'd trade for him: Javi Martinez, Sami Khedeira, Lars Bender and Sergio Busquets (Note the 4 teams they all come from and which 4 made the CL semis). Lucas is more than just a hard tackling midfield destroyer. He plays the ball out from the back, something many fail to notice. He retains possession which is a very unique trait. Sure you have your Nigel De Jong, Javier Mascherano, Danielle De Rossi and Gary Medel's who are better at breaking up play. But all of those players also need a deep lying playmaker alongside them so they can tap it 5 yards to Alonso etc. then wait 5 minutes till they have to make another tackle.

At what he does, Lucas is the 5th best in the world in my opinion. Laugh at me if you want, but seriously, not many players are hard tackling, and technically capable. Mascherano might look better flying into a 5ft lunge, but he only has to do that because he is not as tactically aware. Lucas gets there for the easy tackle more often than not. He then has the ability to play it out to feet. That capability is so un-appreciated. Other players in the EPL who perform similar roles and never receive plaudits are Gareth Barry and Michael Carrick; although they are not as good as Lucas at the job.

So to all you un-educated trolls, push Lucas out if you want. But there are only 4 players in the game who could replace him right now, and they are all no gos. I agree we need a back-up who is of a different ilk. I would like a 'Medel like' brute, to come in against rougher opposition (eg West Ham, Stoke) but they must be able to accept they are merely back up, or occasionally a tactical alternative.
Bayern Munich were the best team in Europe last season along with Barcelona because they have these two options. Martinez and Busquets as the tacticians, Gustavo and Mascherano as the destroyers. That is why Barca ran away with la liga, and Bayern ran away with everything! Defensive midfield is the basis from which you build your entire team. It protects you defence, initiates attacks, and is the engine room of the team.

Long post short, Ed052 is right, and you nameless trolls need to watch a game of football.

On a side note, are people seriously shocked at Reina going out on loan? I said only last week he will leave, and explained why I knew for 100% despite having no inside scoop. Cassillas is in a rough patch (mainly due to Mourinho), Valdes is very below par, and De Gea is just not good enough yet. This is potentially Reinas best chance in a decade to get into the national team, and he will not play second fiddle, or share game time in the lead up to the world cup. Rodgers only said they (Mingolet and Reina) would compete for No.1 spot to drive up Reinas price. When a loan came around, it was perfect. We sign a statistically better keeper, but if he flops under the pressure, we still have a sound back up option on the books, so that next summer, teams don't sting us because they know we are desperate. Chelsea are doing the exact same thing with Courtois. They have 2 top keepers, both playing 40 games a season, both very happy in their situation, and will not be held to ransom for Cechs replacement in a year or two.

Lets all just take a deep breath please! Things are going well. Please stop believing Suarez will stay though, you are only setting yourselves up for dissapointment. {Ed052's Note - Thanks bud}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm a big fan of Lucas too and I think with a summer's break he'll hopefully be back to his best again! Totally agree on Reina too like he played Confederations Cup against Tahiti as they used their backup players but now is his best chance to grab hold of the Spanish No 1 shirt! (I would have preferred to have kept him myself though)

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Adam

Agree0 Disagree0

Mascherano was and is miles better than Lucas.
What you fail to see is Mascherano was really impacting the game with his hardstyle game.
Let me remind you that we have now the same defenders as before and we were having one of the best defenses in the PL. The big difference from before is that we had Mascherano, not Lucas.
Of course we are having an issue when Lucas is missing. After all we don't have anyone better in his position. But that doesn't make him a superstar. Lucas is just an average player and better from players like Carrick. But he is far from the best ones in his position.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with what you said there adam and I do believe it echoes the statistical analysis I did on lucas not too long ago. I also think his professionalism and determination are big factors often over looked by many fans.

Not many players are willing to stay at a club for 3 years when everyone from ex professionals to fans says he's not fit for the shirt. some players moan about it, some players move clubs. Lucas proved them wrong. That's the type of steel and grit that teams need in midfield.

Canos has now signed and will be in U18 squad this year. Plays as AML/FL.

Still trying to sort a fee for Chirivella (MC). Will end up around £2m. Also a first year but likely to feature for U21 sooner than Canos if he signs.

Coady and Adorjan joining Mukendi, Suso, Ngoo and Hodzic on loan. Coady just 6 months. Reina loan still likely.

We may not try to sign another CB if BR thinks Kelly and Wisdom capable enough as cover, i.e. 1st choice: Johnson/Toure/Agger/Enrique, 2nd choice: Kelly/Wisdom/Skrtel/New LB.

Sterling will be in the squad all year - not going out on loan.

-Nibbits

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I hope you're right about CB and I hope they both get a chance on tour to prove they can cover.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry, Canos plays right not left.

-Nibbits

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom won't be a first choice so makes far more sense to go on loan and play 35-40 games at a good standard. Johnson and Toure will need replacing in 2 yrs so that's how long he's got to build experience. I believe he has the attributes to be a starter for LFC in 1/2 yrs. Kelly too injury prone and Skrtel not mobile enough so we will buy at at least one CB before the window closes (possibly two).

Ed 052- given Rodgers has said we are looking at signing a quality attacker and covering left back.

1) Who do you know that we are interested in?
2) Who would you personally like us to target?

Cheers
Jay {Ed052's Note - 1) For attacker, I am not sure at the minute. It was Mickey, but that has fallen through, obviously. For LB, Ed001 has mentioned a few we have scouted, and Aly Cissokho is possible too. 2) I would like Bernard and Cissokho}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hello Ed,

I really want the lad for LW position for LFC. {Ed052's Note - I know L'Equipe were reporting talks, but not a fee agreed. I will go and read the article now (the L'Equipe App is one of the best around for people who can speak French, I highly recommend it). I don't really think he is, and really was an option for us. Your happy to tell everyone who won't replace Suarez, but as of yet not even the remotest sign you know who will come in as your so adamant he will leave I would have expected that you know of his replacement? If not why are you so quick to dismiss everyone? {Ed052's Note - I think you are having a go at the Eds. Well, we continuously explained the Mickey situation to you, who was a sort of replacement. Anyway, the club don't know who they are getting in yet.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really appreciate the job the Ed's are doing. However, not having a go at the Ed's or anything but the OP has got a point there. I don't seem to recall the Ed's being the first telling us about which player we're being interested in.

Sorry Ed's if u feel offended but I was just expressing what I thought. {Ed052's Note - This year has been worse than any, with the club in lock down. In previous years its been easier to bring you stuff, like Damiao last year, etc.}

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed052's Note - However, I would argue that Ed002 brings you everything about any player you ask about, whos scouted them etc etc. He also brings huge amounts of information about Suarez, the situation and such like. You don't get that information anywhere else. We do our best, but most of the time we act as a 'reality filter' telling people when we don't want to sign player x and y who was just found on FIFA. Moreover, you say we don't tell you about who we are going to sign, well, arguably we did tell you of interest in Mignolet 6 months back, interest in Aspas in January and Alberto when we enquired into Navas.}

I love how some of our fans are saying "look at the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham - they're strengthening more than us! They are spending more than us"

Are we forgetting it isn't 5 teams in the premier league - its 20!

Who cares what they are doing, we just need to make sure we try and win every game we play. 15 teams played twice make a potential 90points - that would win us the league even if we lost against all of "the top 4" from last year.

I am not saying that we will win all of those games nor that we will lose against the teams that finished ahead of of last season. but come on!.

We have a team that is no longer gelling - in fact plays very well together!
We have potentially a great start to the year in terms of fixtures.
Some new additions to the squad including a great keeper (lets face it Pepe has been proper shakey since Xavi Valero left with Rafa), a commanding CD with tonnes of experience, a fantastic prospect and a tireless striker and still with more to come!

Everyone goes on about loosing Suarez "he won us so many games last year". but what about the 1-0 games we lost due to Pepe's shoddy keeping, bad decisions or just not being arsed to even go for the ball!. Games we lost because we tried to play everything through the one player on the pitch who was closed down tighter than a crabs backside.

A £20m+ price tag, or a big name does not guarantee instant success. look at Michu, benteke, Ba and going back even further. Ronaldo! Modest prices and set the stage on fire. then look at shevchenko, carroll, Torres to chelsea, kaka to Real Madrid, Ibrahimovic to Barca! All flops!

Now is the time to get behind our team and be optimistic. Not ignorant, closed minded and pessimistic!. negativity breed negativity!. We should be aiming to win the league and only settle for top 4!

Aim for the Moon and if you miss. at least your amongst the stars!

Danski

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All very well but I think you have forgotten a couple of important points.

1. We have been abysmal against so called smaller clubs for years. So your logic of if we can win those games we can win the league is flawed as so can the top 4 also.

You say who cares if the top 4/5 strengthen?. Well most stupid comment I have heard, The whole league is getting tighter with a lot of clubs strengthening as well as the top clubs.

All the while we at this moment are offloading our best players and bringing in more gap fillers as we have for over a decade. Reina on loan to a cash rich club without any buy next summer agreement is a shocking indication of how totally rudderless Lpool are atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Quality post, I couldn't agree more, forget what other teams do and support your own!

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually last season I thought we done alright against the lesser teams with the exception of the odd game!. read the post! I didn't say we will win the league! I was making a point that there are more than 5 teams in the league and a lot of points to pick up elsewhere!

All teams are strengthening - us included in my opinion! But the fact is were only as good as our result on the day! - which last year the start of season wasnt fantastic because we were still getting used to Brendans style!. this year we aren't!

And your Reina comment is laughable! fact is we went and got a better replacement before we let him go, and sent him back to the goal keeping coach that bought the best out in him! we'll be able to sell him next year for a lot more than we would have if we had agreed a deal for next year, now!. yeah sounds completely rudderless!

My point is that isn't all doom and gloom and there are a lot of positives that some people just don't see! My first post was aimed at supporters like you that regardless of how or what were doing to move forward will only see the negative and look for a reason to winge!

Danski

Agree0 Disagree0

And which best players are you talking about?
Pepe hasn't been one of our best players for 3 years! - Mignolet is by no means a gap filler!
Aspas has all the qualities to be a great striker for us, and works tirelessly in the same way suarez does!

Brendan is building a team of players that don't sit back and take a loss in the 65th minute when the chips are down, but dig their heels in fight for their lives to get us back in the game!. money can't buy that!

Maybe because some of us are older and have seen just how truly far our great club has fallen.

They have a right to moan and not just accept mediocrity like most of you daytrippers. The atmosphere at Anfield was very good last season but nothing really to get excited about under these owners.

FSG have done a good job but don't understand football, they are treating it like Baseball, buy young talent and sell on. They don't have the cash to make us compete, we need Anfield upgraded asap to bring in more income.

FSG I feel are nothing like the other 2 persons but they will never make us great again.

As a fan I will always support Lpool no matter what, but I have seen great Lpool teams and with a few experienced quality players we can be again.

Dont take all supporters as just moaning for the sake of it, Lpool FC is at an important junction in its life, one more wrong move and we will be a mediocre club desperate for CL place for the money and not for challenging for trophies.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate people who say we are not real fans because we complain about decisions. It's my my complaining and passion that makes me a true fan and want the utmost best for our great club. Not fans who say just get behind the team even when we are tenth. {Ed052's Note - You should get behind the team whoever plays for them, wherever they play, against whoever, winning, losing, drawing, playing like Stoke, or like Barca}

To avoid a lot of arguments could someone, maybe one if the Eds, actually post the transcripts of all of the Suarez interviews in which he referes to Liverpool and/or leaving. If these could be verbatim then it would stop all confusion because I have to admit I'm not sure what he's actually said and what the press have accused him of saying (let's face it they won't be the same) {Ed052's Note - Chris, the problem is, they're translated, so will be different. From what I have read, he has said he wants to leave, due to CL and the press. He has subsequently said that he isn't happy, the club knows what he want, and that the team isn't goo enough. If people are trying to kid themselves that actually he wants to stay, they are wrong. You don't get your agents to go to speak to every half decent CL to ask if they will buy you if your happy}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Ed I'm sure he wants away but some will never believe it until it happens.
Is it your opinion that he's definitely off this summer? {Ed052's Note -Yes, it is Chris, I believe that the club are actively looking to let him go, but to avoid a ufss/publicity, if possibly, and to keep the 2m too}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok sorry to bother you again but what chance do you think he'll stay in this country?
Do you think we would take less money from a team outside the prem to make sure he goes abroad or do the club not care about selling him to a rival club {Ed052's Note - No problem Chris. I think its 50/50ish to wether he will stay or go. There was a big reason why he would almost certainly go abroad (I know it, but don't understand it, so we wont go into it - its nothing basically), but it hasn't stopped Arsenal, seemingly. I think we will just take the best offer/the offer which reaches our asking value, which ever club it is. However, is, say Arsenal offer 40m then we will I guess, look to RM to see if they will offer that/players and cash. If not, we would probably accept. the bigger issue, however, is probably not, where will he go, the fee etc. but the problems between Suarez and the club, which Ed002 has explained. LS wants his £2m, but may waive it just to leave. That will be the problem which makes it a saga. Sorry for the long drawn out answer lol}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if Suarez was definitely staying the club would have made an official statement to that effect by now.Liverpool are a better team with Suarez than without him and if I were a player considering a move to Liverpool, that move would be a much more attractive proposition if I knew Suarez was in the team.BR must be aware of the leverage offered by Saurez staying when speaking to potential targets/agents.Therefore i'm going to assume his off! Agree0 Disagree0

You actually don't know that ED.

You have just said transcripts are all a mismash of bs.

If you think LS is not putting in a transfer request just so he gets 2m pound then your just being silly and pedantic.

In one interview he actually was asked certain questions to which he answered that he loves the club and city, he was flattered by interest from top clubs including Madrid, he wanted out because he felt the UK media don't ever get off his back and finally . Its all irrelevant because he is contracted to Lpool and is still a lpool player.

From all that if he wanted to desperately leave he could have handed in a request, i'm sure a club could easily compensate him 2m if he was that desperate for the money.

To make it sound he won't put in a request just so he gets 2m is ridiculous. {Ed052's Note - I don't know what bud? The simple reason is, Suarez wants his 5% contractual bonus, which he will only get if he doesn't hand in a TR. The interview you refer to was one of the first he did this summer, since, he has said a lot more, some that hasn't been reported in the UK, such at the Suarez made up story. He isn't 'desperate' for money, the club don't want to be throwing away £2m, so they ain't going to give him a refund for the shit he has brought to the club. Suarez wants the money, and, now looks like he will use it against the club to get a move}

Agree0 Disagree0

If Liverpool don't agree to sell Suarez, how can he get the 5% fee to use against the club?
The Juicer {Ed052's Note - Basically 1) the club want to sell LS. 2) The club want him to hand in a TR, so 3) they can keep his £2m.
BUT, 1) LS wants his £2m, so 2)wont want to hand in a TR, but 3) has taken legal advice and so could say he will waive the bonues, so that 4) he gets a move. It means LS wont, 1) hand in a TR, 2) hand in a TR, and still not get a move. Does that clear it up?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Errr, so what you're saying is that Liverpool won't sell unless he hands in a transfer request.
But Suarez has taken legal advice and thinks that, at a certain figure, Liverpool has to sell regardless of any TR or not?

Just because Italian clubs rate him doesn't mean we should. So every 20-30 million player that bombed in the Italian league must still mean we should rate them.

If you can't see Borini is not going to make it at Lpool then your a fool, he contributes hardly anything and we keep hearing give the lad a chance. Others at this club haven't had half the chances he has hadso we should be biting their hands off at 10m, otherwise in a year or 2 we will end up loaning him out and selling for 2-3m like we always do.

Hi Eds & Reds,

I was just wondering could I have your opinion on a couple of things, given Pepe's impending loan move to Napoli anf that Carra's retired, who do you think will be made vice capatain(s)?
I think its between Toure, Agger & Lucas. Personally i'd like to see Lucas get it. Toure possesses the experience required and he's captained both Arsenal and citeh previously and his country. Agger also would be a good candidate and possesses the required characteristics.

Just in relation to Agger, would you agree that this season is pivotal in his Liverpool career, if he can mantain the same level of fitness and keep injury free, well will have a centre back in his prime, capable of going on for a number of years and finally get rid of the sicknote tag. Personally i'd start Toure and Agger.

Finally, we have an abundance of young talent coming through, do you think we could possibly do like Arsenal have done through the tears and use the League Cup to give the the likes of Ward, Ibe, Coady, Yesil, Robinson etc some valuable game time

Thanks in advance {Ed052's Note - It'll be Agger if he stays. I want it to be Lucas. we'll play youths when needed, and when we can. Coady is on loan, and I expect a lot of players to go on loan this year. Players who play well on loan this year will be first team next season, aor sold if they have poor moves}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wow Lucas vice captain? We really have fallen. {Ed052's Note - The same Lucas, who, for years has been identified as a future Brazilian captain to lead the future, hardly falling is it?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas identified as a future Brazilian captain? You must be joking surely? He won't get near Brazil's first team in centre mid. Paulinho, Gustavo, both the Fernando's, Jucilei all ahead of him in the pecking order. {Ed052's Note - Lucas has played a lot of games for Brazil, and will once more, when fit. He will also be captain I have no doubts}

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and Jucilei. Come on Ed Lucas Leiva is an awful player. He just fouls people. His job is to do his best to not get sent off whilst fouling the opposition.

Disney! {Ed052's Note - Disney, the United fan, having a go at Liverpools midifielders. Bit rich, when United have the awful midfield they do}

Lucas before serious injury was 1 of the first names on Brazil's team sheet. He is very highly reguarded in his country.

After Lucas was injured Lpool were run through by everyone and that's when we started leaking goals.

If you actually watched him play you would realise just how good he is, but you persons watch youtube clips and think every player should be scoring lots of goals and dribbling entire teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

Walked into what? We won the league comfortably.

Can you imagine how good we will be with a better midfield?

Paulinho, Sandro, Fernandinho, Fernando x 2, Jucilei, Ramires & Gustavo are ALL better than Lucas Leiva.

Armchair fan? I've had a season ticket for over twelve years and it's hard when we've gone from the likes of Didi, Mascherano, Alonso hell even Momo to Lucas and people rave on like he's a world beater. He's not, he's good but not that good. The players I've mentioned now they were good for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Armchair supporters? The ones that watch week in week out will be able to tell you Lucas is an average DM. He's no where near the likes of Sandro, Matuidi, Gonalons, Busquets etc. All who understand how to play defensive mid. Also bare in mind the previous DM's we had - Hamann, Mascherano, even Momo for a while! There's a huge drop in quality from the likes to Lucas. Fans get carried away because of how he turned things round from the 'boo days'. Credit to him for improving but he's still not good enough for DM. Put the sentiment to one side and compare him to the top DM's around Europe - long way behind.

Suarez has never said he wanted to leave Liverpool.

He has implied that he was open to leave but has never said he wanted to go.

Perhaps if you fools translated his interviews properly you would know that everything he has said has been twisted and manipulated to sell the idea that he has said he wants out.

He does want to go but he has never publicly said this. {Ed052's Note - He has said loads of times that he wants to leave, and that the team isn't good enough for him}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

However, most papers, albeit one or two, carry disgusting stories, often, hack phones etc. But away from that, he has done it in press conferences, yep}

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, I have not seen a quote that you can defo say he wants to move.
If 'a club like RM come calling', yes but not 'I want to leave Liverpool'
'Liverpool know what I want' is the closest. He wants Champions League football, we have to convince him he can get it at Liverpool. Hey we have FIVE stars on our shirts
The British media are doing their dirty work again
What is their problem?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Jul 2013 12:13:22
ED052, Do you have a problem If he stays here? {Ed052's Note - Yes}

Agree0 Disagree0

I tend to agree with ed52 and Ed001 on most things, but I tend to disagree with them on this - or at least on the degree with which he has stated his desire to leave. LS tends to wear his heart on his sleeve (one of the reasons that I like the lad - he might be a PR mans worst nightmare, but he seems to say what he feels!) and the press just eat it up, chew it up, and print whatever slant on it they want to. There are huge problems translating directly from Spanish to English (I know because I live in Spain), there is no direct translation for many things, and a lot of subtleties that can change stresses on meanings. Personally, I think if Madrid put in an acceptable offer he will go (I can't blame him for that, it's the pinnacle of any South American footballers career), but if Madrid don't put in an acceptable offer I think he will say. Again, just my opinion, I think that the reason he said that he was flattered by the interest in Arsenal, it is because he really felt like everyone hated him in England - to the extent that he got booed by his fellow professionals at the PFA awards (which I thought was a bit out of order). And because he felt like that is why he said he was flattered by the fact that another prem team still wanted him.
He said he was bothered by the fact that Liverpool wasn't in the CL, which again is just speaking his mind. He also loves the club and the fans - in most of his interviews he has given he usually says so, he also says he know he screwed up biting Ivanovich.

If he stays I will be delighted, I really will. If he leaves to RM, or Barca or even BM, I will wish him the best. I honestly don't think he would go to Arsenal or City or Man U, I know there have been talks with Arsenal, but his agent has to do something for his wages, but I will be very surprised if he does.
If he does go to another prem team, I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong about him, but I just don't think he will. I guess time will tell if I have to be force fed a big slice of humble pie, but I hope I am right. He is a great player, and we don't really need to be shipping out great players - simple as that. Obviously just my opinion, but I don't really understand the level of hate that our fans are giving him.

i think we will add 3 more players or at least try to. my guess is that we will bring in 1 cb and left back and another midfielder. I think robinson/wisdom/flanagan will go out on loan.
assaidi/quates/skrtl we would like to sell and generate some funds to buy these 3 players. we are not in europe and we have to many players, this season is just perfect to kick on in every sence. we added alberto and aspas br believes they will had to what we already have. assaidi we need to sell and we do not need to replace him we have ibe/sterling for the left wing and suarez can play there too. aspas/suarez/sturridge/ibe/sterling/borini/downing should be ok this season. at the back we need players if br last season did not trust skrtl/quates he be a fool not too invest. and for some reason I think enrique is not br type.
midfield we need another player. I would not buy another striker unless suarez would leave, we have a great prospect in sinclair but he needs time. let's sell players that are in the squad for no reason and buy quality. next season we have a real chance to get into top 4.and move on from there.malta

I don't expect us to buy a striker as long as suarez stays, We are definitely in for an attacking midfielder and a centre half and possibly a left back cover.

Up to know we are ahead of spurs and arsenal in the transfer market at the moment.

Arsenal have said they will spend £70m this summer but Jovetic(city), higuain(Napoli), rooney(Chelsea), suarez(Staying). so who the hell are they really going to buy?

Spurs are linked with a lot of players and I think they need a centre back and a top striker because defoe is not season long. If bale stays they do have one of the best midfields in the prem.

So imo it will be Liverpool and spurs for 4th place unless arsenal do get 3 top players for £70m.

Agree0 Disagree0

Navas would have been a great addition to our RW very dangerous player

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the spaniard is under priced when city got him. Less than £15m! He is a game changer. His pace and trickery can turn a match in his teams favour. His work rate is exceptional and he never seems to tire. A player like this is exactly what Liverpool need, and if they knew he was only £14.9m before city got him, I'd say he would be a great help when pushing for a top 4 spot. If we get a winger like him, or perhaps two, a RW and LW, I would consider us genuine title contenders.

The ones that understand that Rodgers is doing a superb job, the ones that understand why Reina had to leave on loan and the ones that don't moan because we're not throwing money at any player like City and Chelsea are?

Portsmouth! Etc! I under stand 100% behind the club 100% sooner FFP and prem try and bring in there own FFP the better don't want clubs going under not even Man U! I don't sit and relax and accept that a 7th place finish is good enough - and I'll gaurantee neither does Brendan or anyone else at Liverpool. What they are doing is putting the future of the club first - why be plunged into debt for a short term fix? At least we know we will have stability and the chance to challenge for honours for years to come - especially if our young squad stays together and grows. Would love to see the faces of the plastic Chavski fans when Abramovic does one! As for the Chavski fan - you can only dream of our History. It might not pay wages, but it keeps our club as the greatest in England. So go back to your own page and talk about Shrek coming to save you

Its not that we don't care, it's that we channel our frustration into supporting as opposed to complaining. The more self-belief we can channel into our players, the more positive our outlook and our mannerisms, the more confident our team becomes. At this moment in time, our team is borderline. If and when Suarez departs, that is going to change one way or another to some extent. But that is an extent to which we do not know. Personally, I think the effect will be minimal because Suarez, whilst adding a lot, takes away from the players around him, but all that is is an opinion. If that is the case, or another signing bridges the gap, our support could very well be the difference between top 4 and missing out. If we miss out because that support was not fully there, then some people will certainly be walking on their own.

any truth in the Aly Cissokho rumours?

Judging by BR's interview we are looking at 3 more incomings : a LB, a CB (4th choice) and an attacker.

Also fellow kopites,
I am really sorry I have been on a rant on this site for a few days now but guess it will still take a couple more windows to get BR the entire squad he wants. Just got to trust the scouting department completely. {Ed052's Note - I've just answered it bud :)}

I don't believe at all.
He is a superb player though and should ahev been bought 3 years back to anfield. he is an out and out CF, which we already have got in Sturridge?

Morning Ed I think we are all realists to know, we have to get the wage bill down, my point as from yesterday, is Rogers is losing credibility and people won't believe a word he will say, it's embarrassing when one minute he's saying Pepe and Mignolet will compete with each other, when we all knew it wasn't going to happen and now he is going on about Suarez, its cheap and tacky and not the Liverpool way, Ayre and Rogers need to be up front and tell the Truth as supporters we deserve that at least! the actual truth is he himself don't have a clue what's going on inside.
I don't think he would want to send reina on a loan, that's pure clubs decision.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this guy on another planet! Brendan is doing a great job. The press ask loaded questions. And when they asked about Pepe what was Brendan supposed to say? "No. I want him out. He's not committed anymore?" Brendan needed to offload a player on 100k a week so as he can now use the wages to improve the team. We all knew Pepe was on his way. Brendan merely protected the team by bringing in Mig - then ditching Pepe. We all knew it would happen, yes. But Brendan had to be diplomatic about it. Seriously dude!

Agree0 Disagree0

They can't tell the truth as this will decrease prices for players. BR says - we will let Pepe go - Napoli would be in offering to only pay half his wage.

But with Hendo and gerrard filling the proper CM position and Lucas sitting as the DM suso should have been given time to play alongside countinho.
both looks terriffic in skills and clever moment.
what happened to coady?. we should also promote texeria as he is the real star for me. {Ed052's Note - 'I am aware that both play different positions' so a) how can you compare them, b) loaning a CM would leave us should in the CM position, because we've kept a CAM. Man city. our competition.
Not in another 10 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Man City have made two great signings! Jovetic and Navas. Negredo and Fernandinho are not going to get a game. I would go as far to say Fernandinho is the stupidest signing since Andy Carroll in the premier league! They have also lost Tevez too! There manager is first class though!

Spurs have signed a great player in Paulinho but he going to a side who were already great in that area. Sandro and Dembele are probably the best deep midfield partnership in the league so the signing of Paulinho is a strange one. However Spurs are crying out for a striker! Levy will never pay the money to buy a quality one and until he does Spurs won't challenge for the league!

If no more signings are made I think the league stands like:
1. Man City
2. Chelsea
3. Man United
4. Spurs
5. Liverpool
6. Arsenal {Ed052's Note - Fernandinho is a good signing. It is Negredo, who I don't rate, which I don't understand.}

Love this site, but all the moaners are starting to do my head in. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, so was spoilt in regard to the team and it's success. Those days have gone for now, we are not the force we once were. That's a given. But we are still Liverpool. Still the greatest football club in the world, even if it doesn't translate to the pitch at the minute. We've been poorly managed at times during the last 15/20 years and I have been as frustrated as everyone else. However, I can't help but see the current situation as positive and the beginnings of our return to the top. Have a look at last season. How many games were we clearly second best? I can't think of many. How many games did you walk away from thinking 'how come we didn't win that?!' or 'we should have scored 6!'. loads. BR has been impressive for me. He talks sense. He's a true Liverpool manager. I haven't got Rose tinted specs on, i'm not convinced yet by Allen and Borini myself, but I'm hopeful that they'll improve given more time. but look what else we have. For me, Couthino is world class and will prove it this season. sturridge will get you 20 a season easily. hendo was improving by the week at the end of last season, Aspas looks very promising, Sterling?. Ibe? Then there's Stevie and Lucas. honestly, am I just deluded?! As far as the Suarez situation goes, one thing is clear, he's one of the best strikers in the world and for a club not currently in the Champions League, irreplaceable. That leaves us with 2 options, sell him for top price (over 40 mil), or tell him to repay our loyalty to him on the pitch (which he would, because he is an outstanding player). I trust BR and the club to do what's best for LFC. I'm really positive this year. As far as I'm concerned we are on the up, and have been showing signs of that since Couthino and Sturridge arrived in Jan. Hate it when people slag players off, or say they're not good enough before they've even played a competitive match! Just because they didn't cost 20 million! Cmon, let's give the team, and the management a chance. Top 4 is the target. I can't see any reason why we can't do it this season. DaveDee

I too grew up with mid 70's, 80's Paisley/Fagen/Dalglish era.
I too have had my doubts about Rodgers credentials to run this great club of ours. but slowly, slowly I am warming to this guy. We are no longer at the moment a major force in attracting the best players, which is natural considering we are not even in the Europa Cup, never mind CL!
All I can say and Re-iterate what Stevie G said last season, Rodgers is brave to take on LFC at this stage. Give him his due, he has worked under strict budgets and still shown the motivation to bring back success. Buying young talent such as Coutinho has given me hope. Maybe not immediatly but I see the LFC Liver Bird rising from the flames to be the torment of every club soon.
Building a team would give me much more pleasure in success than say a Man City where money just rules, and can't have longevity.
Lets see what this team can do in what will be Rodgers 1st true season in his set-up with his team & players.
Whether you like or dis-like Rodgers, all I ask is for you to get behind your club, to give them the best, most positve start we can give them as fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm the same as you Dave and totally agree. 70's, 80's were great times but even the rest up til now have been great too.

Don't think we have ever been too far away from winning things and added quite a bit of silver in that time as well.

So proud that the club has grown from them days to what it is today. Watching the Indonesian fans reminded me of what it was like on the Kop every week, away from home, or in Europe back then. We need to bring that back to Anfield.

The past is great and I still love singing about it. But this is now and tomorrow is the future. We have some great players, a great squad that is very young and will grow into something special.

So as a fan let's stop living in the past and look at making Liverpool a force in the future. That's what Shanks and Paisley would have done and that is the Liverpool way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reina will be at Napoli this season. Discussions are taking place to see if a permanent deal can be sorted instead of a loan. If not, a loan it will be. Reina still wants to go to Barca but realises that won't happen now until possibly next season.
Rodgers is happy for either a loan deal or permanent as it would A) get Reina's £110,000 a week wage off the bill and B) help Reina's chances of going to the world cup as he needs to be playing. He is not guaranteed first team football if he stays with us.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, sorry man but I'd suspect you're wrong on everything you've said here. Rodgers picks the players, not 100% himself but he still picks them. He would have told the staff I want a new GK to replace Reina and they'd have done their scout reports, etc and reported them back to him, group discussion I would suspect, etc. Then Rodgers would go my number 1, 2, 3 for GK is so and so and see if deals could be negotiated at fair prices starting at the number 1 target.

Toure ticks all the boxes for replacing Carragher and Alberto is a promising player who has done well in the Segunda league and can add to our squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry Scousser,
BR knows all the movements within the club regarding players. BR rubber stamps all transfers in and out. If you think Alberto and Toure were signed without him agreeing to it, then you have no grasp on reality.
As for Reina going, I'm sure BR meant what he said. Once Reina had expressed his desire for first team football though, which BR could not guarantee, and the fact that we would save approx £4m in wages then what other option is there?

He would hit 100+. You can't take out the skill from any player. especially one with suarez. the lad is a machine. I don't care what he blufffs outside the pitch, But he gives 200% on the pitch, which is worth more than he is.

Also, if you have time, would anyone be able to explain to me why Liverpool are missing out on players like Gomez and David Villa? I know we don't have champions league but surely Liverpool would be of greater attraction than Fiontenia and Alteti. Just puzzles me.

To everyone slating Rodgers, you don't know his plans day to day. It's as simple as that. Perhaps, the day Mignolet was signed, the intention was to have both keepers and then Napoli made an offer we couldn't possibly refuse. A few people have reasoned that the loan would take 100% of Pepe's wages off the weekly bill, and that may be true. Let's not forget that unless an upfront fee is paid, the loaned out player can normally be recalled without a problem. This means we basically have two keepers, getting first team football, at a high level. Should Mignolet pick up an injury, it seems we'd be able to have Reina in time for the next game, fit and ready to go. I'm not saying I know the ins and outs of the deal because I don't. I'm just offering some reassurances to fellow fans that Brendan probably wasn't flat-out lying, and has good intentions with this deal.

Recalls don't work like that. It only works if it's an under 23 player in a lower league I believe, they mentioned it during the Real vs. Bournemouth commentary. So if he leaves it'll be for good. Atleast we won't have the constant speculation.

Ed BR said that he has added to the squad and is now looking to improve the first team.
Now BR is saying this assuming Suarez stays. My question Ed is, assuming Suarez leaves do you think even more money will be spent to improve the squad to replace the goals he's scored? Cheers.
ROI. {Ed001's Note - I am sorry but that makes no sense. More money than what? More than has already been spent? Because that was always going to happen anyway.}

Ed's, any truth to Suarez signing a new contract? If so it would be our biggest and best signing of the summer. Regardless of his antics the lad is world class and with the likes of gerrard Lucas and Rodgers guiding him, he may become a class act yet. And with us winning the league this season (blind Liverpool optimism, but that's what Liverpool is about) it could be the best thing going forward

World class but yet to be a class act?

You don't need to stick to Liverpool to be a world class.
Luis figo moved from barca to their arch rival. yet he was a world class player.

Why on earth would we give suarez a new contract that allows him to leave? He is cottacted for another 3 years an ant go without us accepting an offer

Make sense please

It means one season of 110% rather than 3 seasons of not trying

Agree0 Disagree0

Probably to do with his agent seeking legal action over the "40m pound release clause" it probably just clarifies that and gives him more money to make him happier. Going far out on a limb here but maybe that's why Reina is leaving, to give Suarez a little more money to keep him happy?

jesus christ, why don't people understand, If it was higher money, he would never go to Arsneal.
he is on 120k. You honestly believe Arsneal would double that?
they are better than us in maintaining Wages.
wwnger won't pay randsom to anyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

Saurez would never be accused of not trying, once the lad crosses the white line he is fully committed to whatever team he is playing for.
Can someone explain to me what 110% is - I may be a bit ignorant, but to give everything is to give it 100%, isn't it?

John B.
sometimes 100 % isn't enough to get the desired results. its just your effort. 150% means you always have 2 solutions for every given probelm. Litreally means. 9/10 times you win the game.

Really hope Liverpool get some more business done! Think we need at least another 3! New signings look decent early on but we still don't have enough to challenge the top 4! Iv worked offshore in the likes of Germany, holland and Belgium and have been lucky enough to watch some football whilst over there particularly Ajax! If its true that Liverpool are keen on eriksen I can only say get the deal done! This lad is a quality footballer with bags of ability! a lot of guys I know in Germany also rave on about the lad papadopoulos ( spelling )! Not seen him play yet but from what I'm told he has a big future in the game! Quality centre half that plays as if he got 15 years experience behind him! Great mentality and very physical I'm told! Personally I think we could use something else in the middle! Bit of experience would help alongside Lucas and Gerrard! Alonso or barry r the only names that springs to mind! Just don't think we have much else In the middle to help Gerrard and Lucas! Joe Allen for me is not good enough for Liverpool and struggles whenever I see him play! Sloppy In possession and doesn't really contribute!
