Are you aware of any real interest in Darren Bent from liverpool, as I have heard this rumour from many sources.
Great site keep up the good work.

Recycled story.

Brendan ;
"Definately, one or two players may join us(Liverpool). We're in talks with many players thirsty for trophies"

i love the man, looks like them 2 are allen and dempsey.

So far so good with BR ... I for one will be backing to our new manager to the hilt..

anybody seen the being liverpool trailer ?
proper american cheese, i find myself intrigued, because every man wants to know what exactly goes on behind the scenes at a football club, i just hope it doent make a mockery or a joke out of our great football club

what does everybody else think ?

Maybe a little cheesy but I for one would like an insight to how things are run. Plus if it increases are drive for more advertising revenue and extends are fan base well it will have worked well. We need to catch up with the times our great club has been left behind over the last 20 years and that's a bigger mockery!

Mike S

As an American, I'm really excited about it. We don't get to normally see post match interviews or see players on the talk shows and the like, so while I know how they play, I know very little about their personalities and how they are off the pitch. Looking forward to it!

Heelo Eds it is being reported in loads of websites that lfc are after gerard of Barcelona . I actually think this may be true for some reason. He seems like the type of plyer fsg would want to bring in. websites say 7.5 mill , but I would expect we would have to pay about 12 -15 mill to get him . this kid could really be the next big thing. Have you heard anything on it? If we can spend 20 mill on downing then we can defo spend 15 mill on this guy.

If your trying to class him as downing he must be as good as heskey.

Have you ever actually seen him play or are you assuming that he's the 'next big thing' because he's at barcelona?!

Are you joking. it is a huge risk to spend 15 million on a player with only 1 senior start, i do concede he could be class but we already have a few wingers who can be class in sterling, ibe and tino silva etc.

Just interested in who anyone thinks should be moved on by Brendan Rodgers this summer

Andy The Red

I'm underwhelmed by Aquilani, Cole, Downing and Adam. Not going to slag them off just think they should all be moved on and money generated and saved on wages reinvested in 2 class new players.

YNWA jns

Spearing, Aquilani and Downing

Adam and Spearing to start with.

Personally, I'd like us to replace both Fullback too. Or merge the 2 together. Enrique defensivly with Johnsons attacking attribute. lol

redphil

Aquilani, not because he isn't good but because he doesn't want to play for us. Skrtel if the rumours are true then 20m for him would present great business and a decent replacement could easily be bought for half that figure.Adam, because he wont fit in the style of play, spearing, even though I love his commitment he doesn't have the ability. Jurys out on joe cole for me
Everyone else Id like to see given another chance
Andy H

Spearing, Adam, Downing, Carol, Aqualani

GK: Doni and Jones. Neither are sweeper keepers. Think we should go for someone slightly younger.

CB: I think Coates has potential but in a team with a high defensive line I dont know how well he'd do. I wouldnt write him off just yet, but I don't think he'll be in our long term plans. I hope I'm wrong

CM: Adam. Spearing: I dont mind whether we keep or sell

AM: Cole

ST: Carrolls not going to be in long term plans so if we get a decent offer I'd sell. Though he is talented and will become an extremely good player in the right team

Just my opinion :)

AZ

Any player who is not fully dedicated to the club.

Spearing,joe cole and carroll.
also,if he could get howard webb moved on from the ref panel that would be great too.
red jay

Rodgers said all the players have a price and if an offer comes in they will look at it.

I recorded last night's match and watched it earlier. Adam and Spearing played ok but I won't change my mind...not LFC quality!
Ecclestone and Cole were woeful and I can't see either being a part of BR's plans.
Negativity over.
Suso, Pacheco,Sterling, Robinson, Ibeh, Shelvey and Wisdom were very good...Pacheco surprised me 'cos I'd almost written him off. He was M.O.M. with the brilliant Sterling a close second.
Aquilani looked as though he was going through the motions but, even as his biggest critic, I'd like Big Bren to sort his head out because his composure and passing ability are assets we could use. Suso is tailor-made for our new style of football.
I couldn't help thinking that Carroll would've destroyed Toronto if he'd been playing.
It was only a friendly but I'm quite excited by what we've got in reserve....Toronto were fully match-fit and up for it. So a 1-1 with mainly kids was a good result.
ANFIELDPETE

Yeah the result isn't important but it is a good omen for things to come. all of our youngsters played well. sama (after a shakey first 10) looked very composed. the worst thing that could've happened was we went out and won 6-0 and thought we were gods but a very promising overall performance.
derryred

Paccheo was brilliant, did you see all those crosses that didnt connect? or how about those times he kept getting tackled. Brilliant player

Agree with everything you said.
I would just add that Sama and Wilson were also positives from last night's game.
From what I saw Adam has to go.. Cole has to go.... and Eccleston (had loads of chances and moans too much). Ed, do you think that the team in the first half could be the players we are more likely to sell?
Thanks
jonnybarnes89-90 {Ed049's Note - Looks likely}

His crosses were to the right place. ecclesone just didn't read the play at all.

All liverpool have to do is to invest s***loads of cash in a prolific goal scorer and get him close to Suarez. A Striker in the ilk of RVP, Cavani, Torres in his hay day, We don't need Dempsey(2close2-30), we don't need Carroll (clumsy), we don't need Allen(poor price/quality ratio), we don't need Walcot (fairy), we don't need Ba (crock), we don't need more defenders(we have a great defense), we don't need another keeper, We don't need other top 4 clubs castoffs, we definitely don't need Joe Coal or Aqualani (no passion), we need some good squad players for cover e.g Lucas role, We could do with a rightwinger come striker. That's it. Play Gerrard forward in 433, Trade Adam for a proper CM and we're Top4!

Simples!

Isnt fifa great

Get RVP but not Dempsey as he's too close to 30.
As someone else pointed out, Dempsey is only 5 months older than RVP.

The Booter

Totally agree glad other fans can see we are turning into joke and selling are best players to invest in Average players such as Joe Allen.

This is why you are not a football manager.

Oh and by the way RVP is the same age as Dempsey so your argument is pointless

Hi Eds

Anything in the 'report' on Caught Offside that the money raised from selling Carroll will be used to buy Bent from Villa? I know caught Offside are usually just recycling Twitter and other, not so reliable sources, but thought I'd ask?

Mark the Selby Red

I hope your joking pal, I thought we were moving forward, bent, ffs

Agreed, that"s why I asked! Wanted to make sure it's just twitter rumours and there's nothing more to it. We can do much better than Bent IMO.

Great site im now addicted . Just like to point out lots of posts saying dempsey is too old if im not mistaken Hes the same age as van persie and no one has mentioned his age . Maybe differant class but same principle SteveL

I post the other day about age . Am I right in thinking we signed a player in his 30s and he was outstanding Mcallister didn't he score and make some very important goals and many of us still think he was a legend . If dempsy can do the same I think we will all be happy .

Brendan Rodgers has offered Jay Spearing along with £8m in exchange for Joe Allen. Charlie Adam could be set for a shock £7m move across the mersey to Everton. Liverpool are willing to listen to loan offers for Jonjo Shelvey,Raheem Sterling,Connor Coady,Jordan Ibe and Jon Flanagan while Rodgers is planning on adding Suso and Adam Morgan into the first team squad. Brendan Rodgers is considering letting Joe Cole leave after Liverpool received a £4m bid from an unnamed PL club{believed to be Aston Villa}. Theo Walcott is Liverpool's prime target after they secure the signature of Joe Allen. Liverpool made an enquiry for Dempsey but it has been made clear that Fulham will not sell for less than £12m which FSG are not willing to pay. Possible squad for the year ahead GK-Reina/Doni/Jones CB-Skrtel/Agger/Carragher/Coates/Wilson/Wisdom RB-Johnson/Kelly LB-Enrique/Robinson CM-Gerrard/Lucas/Allen/Henderson/Aquilani/ RW-Walcott/Suso LW-Downing/Bellamy ST-Suarez/Carroll/Borini/Morgan On paper it looks a decent squad with a few intelligent midfielders that should work in Rodgers 4-3-3 pass and move. Liverpool will challenge for the top 4 this year and with our two main rivals losing their best players, RVP leaving Arsenal and Modric leaving Spurs then I think this could be the year Liverpool regain their Champoins League status. Manchester City, Manchester United and even Chelsea this year are looking nailed on for the top four the last spot will be fought out between Liverpool,Arsenal,Tottenham and possibly Newcastle but I think Liverpool for once look a better shout.

How on earth do you come to the conclusion that you are in better shape now than last season to finish fourth? There are at least 7 sides with better first 11, and at least 6 with better squads. Deluded.

Mate ibe and sterling are too young to go on loan, sterling can go in january i think.
derryred

Mate united nearly beat city to the title when their squad comes no where near city's in terms of class in the first 11 or squad. it is about playing the right system and having the right coach to build a good team. however i do agree that it will be a tremendous achievement to get in the top 4. oh and no way does 7 teams have a better first 11's than liverpool mate. thats deluded.

Acording to SSN Ryan Babel is coming back for 2.5 Million i hope its true great player on his day

Agree. However, it often isn't his day sadly.. Seriously though, so long as he was prepared to work hard, for that price it could be worth it.

Isn't babel a free agent im sure i read somewhere he was released

PLEASE NO!! It took us long enough to get rid of him!!

Babel is a good player he is not a winger but i think he is a striker who would score many goals for the reds. {Ed029's Note - I can't see it happening}

22 Jul 2012 20:54:25
Rodgers said himself that there was depth lacking in the squad so expect a few more signings after the pre season when he has assessed all the squad and shifts the dead weight! When he first came he said he knew more or less what we had! hopefully exciting times

Taster123

Please dont say "dead weight". its insulting our teams own players. i do share your optimism but.

Hi eds, everybody

Is the swap Carroll for bent rumour true?

I hope not I'd prefer Carroll any day

Thanks

Sponge Bob

Quite simply anybody who would have Carroll ahead of Bent is clueless

Chris in Tamworth

I cannot, for the life of me, work Bent out as a footballer. He scores goals, yet every time I see him he looks terrible.

So not sure if I want this or not.

- Something Red -

Why? Bent seems to be injured more often than not these days and although he's good against average, he isn't against good opposition. Carroll is a beast who is starting to show his class. Unplayable on his day, and I'm not exactly a carroll fan

Just like you Chris

DaveyBootle.

Please can people stop mentioning Darren Bent's name. It's making me sad.

Then I'm clueless... Carroll everyday

sly - Reporting that Ryan Babel could be back to Anfield for €2.5m.
great site keep up the good work.
what are your thought on this

Are you sure????

Is this true? Ive not heard anything

Neilp

I might get some stick for this but for 2.3m if true I would be happy . He has all the attributes but we never really saw them . Speed strength power , very attack minded player the kind BR likes . Plus I think we will start to see sterling have more chances next season so this might make some sense . What do others think ?

Cheers
Jamesy

Needs to play every week to be in the right frame of mind, imo. It looked to me like he started sulking when Riera arrived to challenge him for his place.

He won't be guaranteed a place anymore than the last time he was here. Pointless.

- Something Red -

Babel was a complete failure!! Why on earth would anyone want him back?? Let's move on...

He has to improve his link up play and such. i remember he always tried to beat the man even with better options on. he was found out, but if he can improve on that then i'd welcomehim back.

Is there any interest from any clubs for Keisuke Honda?? I honestly cant understand why no big clubs are looking at him. Not only is he a world class player, he wud surely be a great asset to promote the club in the asian market aswell.

Maybe wages or transfer fee or perhaps an attitude issue or knee problems and such. maybe big clubs already have a good midfield and dont need to add to it. i'm just guessing i don't have a clue but there can be many factors

Eds,Sky reporting possible swap deal between Dempsey and Adam! This seems sensible and points at the fact Allen is coming in. Would you think this is likely to happen? Also let's all stop talking about Sinclair and Dyer and let's start talking about Suso and Sterling! These boys are stars of the future.

It seems charlie adam doesnt want the move to fulham. maybe the move across the park would have more appeal. steviep62.

Honestly I real want to think we have some mega signings but we are so far of the mark of Chelsea and united on player Ambitions it's unreal expect Dempsey and Allen by Tuesday and some one out of the blue no one expected I hope he who ever he is give us hope

22 Jul 2012 19:42:35
A question for the eds, all the talk of Sinclair being a target, in my oPionion he ain't any better than what we've already got, also,do you think pool will pay silly money for him like we are going to do with Allen ? {Ed002's Note - I have no real interest in discussing the money, but he is possibly a future target.}

If rodgers keeps going for players he has worked with , he will have a problem as this proves no one who has not worked with him is interested in coming?

22 Jul 2012 19:41:05
A midfield of Lucas, Allen and Henderson will have so much energy we will overpower the opposition in most games. Playing Gerrard as part of a front 3 will do for me

There's a few concerns out there that we arent signing many players. At the moment, not many teams have. Pre-season training is 2 weeks in at most clubs, euros players coming back next week, then your olympics players later again so most teams are in limbo i suppose. I think its even worse/harder for us and other clubs like villa, spurs and norwich etc who have new managers, needing to see the whole squad and so on. Man utd, who have a long term manager, and knows which of the youth is going to make it makes it easier for them to, similar to us in the 80's to just go out and strengthen one or two positions by spending big because they dont need to sign 5 and 6. arsenal are similar, whereas i dont really know about chelsea who does the signings but lucky for them and man city ,they have the finances to compete for the superstars, and we know that its not just a difference of a million now but they will come in at 3 or 4 million higher. I think thats their good luck. Hopefully BR will get us playing good football over the next few seasons that will have us back competing for the league and champions league, keeping our own superstars here and building for the future, making us a force again

Adam for Dempsey would be a good swap deal for all concerned, Adam hasn't the pace for the pressing game we will play and will be good replacemnt for Murphy at fulham, and Dempsey will give us some steal and heart and some much needed goals from midfield. Hopefully if theres not too much cash involved it may mean we have some cash left to get a wide player and Joe Allen.

Hi Ed's.

I was just wondering where Red Routs transfer round up was posted to? I haven't been able to check the site for a few days. I've tried the search and archives for yesterday and 20th but to no avail.

I was hoping to give it a read and copy it as a template incase he added any players that I missed two weeks ago.

I'll post another round up (if it's wanted) on Friday 3rd August.

I saw a post from Jonson saying Red Rout got a bit of stick for doing it which is ridiculous!

Thanks,
Curtiss {Ed002's Note - You will need to posts another.}

I think we should keep Adam and give him at least 1 more season. He was our highest assister last season with being injured for a large amount of games, again with lucas next to him i thought he played very well and just think if he played as bad as all you think and still assisted more than anyone else think of what he can do if he plays well next year.

Luke

I'm tried and am still trying pretty hard to be optimistic about Charlie but unfortunately it's just not working out for me.

His corners/set pieces have been worse than abysmal (which is supposedly what he is, or at least was, good at) since he came over, his movement and defensive ability are pretty poor, he far too often tries for the amazing rather than the solid, his shots from range are nearly always well off target, and to top it off he looks like he's a put on a few more pounds over the break. I just can't see him being around come September, but if he is then I hope he proves me wrong!

RDL

Dont think so mate...saw him yesterday against toronto..he recievs the ball...pass to rb, then recieves again..pass to lb...then recieves again...noting..output actually...and with allen coming..why we need him? already have 12 midfielders...need to cut the wage and if we get some money...kool enough

22 Jul 2012 19:00:02
I am so jackyl and hyde. Hate tranfer window, and still over a month of it left. One minute I am thinking, we are being left behind and oh its going to be another long old season next year.

And then I I'm excited again. BR will play agressive attacking football and also

GK Reina - World Class, Gulacsi - real potential

CB - Skyrtl/ Agger - World Class - Coates/Carra/Kelly great back up, with young players like Wilson/Coady

FB- Johnson/Enrique - OK not great but really could be alot worse, plus great young prospects Flanno/Robbo

MID- Gerrard- Lucas World Class - Aqualani (if we keep) Great midfield prospects- Hendo/Shelvey/Allan(if he signed)/Suso- if these player are developed correctly LFC will not need to buy another for next 5 years or so.

Wide/Att Mid - This is where we are short IMO, but have Cole/ Downing (i know i know), but Dempsey should help out there. but great young prospects like Pacheco and Sterling. If we don't buy i prefer we just use the younger players

ST- Saurez World Class, Bellemy - Quality and 2 young players with bags of potential in Borini and Carrol (If we keep)

Even if Carroll and Aqualani go, I beleive they will be replaced.

So my fellow LFC fans you will see we aint a million miles away.

2-3 signings away from challenging for that top 4 again.....

redphil

Good post pal, the players who under performed last season will surely not play as bad this season,I think we might surprise a few people this year

Beautiful dreamer

The definition of world class is an interesting one. For me,for it to mean anything, it means if we picked a 23 man squad from planet earth to play the Martians who would get in.? That gives Gerrard and Suarez a sniff....

You know coady isnt a CB right

Top 6 will feel like a win this year

But will you win the premiership with that squad....ermmmm.....NO!! Time to take your rose tinted glasses off me thinks!

Coady can play CB and as per Carragher, who intially was more a Defensive midfielder,I beleive Coady will end up in the back 4.

Definition of world class is someone who would not look out of place in any other team on the planet. Whilst not the best player would not look out of place.

Would it win the premiership. No not yet but our youth set up could IMO be set to produce something akin to Man Utd in the 90's. Rose tinted glasses, no realistic top 4 yes.

redphil

You say reina is world class and then our two fullbacks who are excellent modern day attacking fullbacks "probably the best in the league?" when we have the right cover in dm ie lucas.
Johnson and Enrique are both excellent and Pepe Reina is not world class.
kidmillions

Why say aquilani is world class and put enrique and johnson as okay. not saying they are world class but they are better in their position for liverpool than aquilani is in his.

this is about last nights stand out individual performances. the players that really made an impression myself are as follows..jordan ibe, jonjo shelvey, joe cole, raheem sterling, and i thought suso looked a threat! i no its only the 1st game of pre season and fitness and sharpness is an issue. but these players really stood out for me. and if you notice apart from joe cole, they are all very young in footballing terms.. it would be interesting to see what BR does with these players in terms of really introducing them to the 1st team. i no there are talks ongoing about sending raheem out on loan, but for me personally i feel he would be a great option to introduce from the bench for a couple of games, then see how he performs from there, all i can say in that regard is that he as a fantastic future in front of him..
from a transfer perspective. i would love to see theo walcott and gaston ramirez, there is a strong link with them both at the moment, they both fit the BR style quick and very attack minded.. ive also heard a rumour flying about that we are interested in mario gotze dont no how true that is. but what a fantastic addition to the squad he would be! but whoever we decide to buy this summer, i still have a really good feeling about this season!!
CMON YOU RED MEN!!

How are so many people missing out spearing i thought he was pretty stand out last night. even though he wasnt great in the season you cant take away his performance.

Luke

I don't Gotze moving anywhere anytime soon. He would (rightfully) cost an absolute fortune and a) he's playing for the club he grew up with and b) they're 2x champions of the Bundesliga.

I ll go on a dream holiday if we get ramirez...walcott...no..he dont have brains..ramirez and i am also happy with dempsy..if we sell caroll...and bring a striker....would love the name..matias suarez...what a combo that will be...suarez..boroni and surez/dempsy..excellent

I thought all defenders (apart from wilson) hadsolid enough performances. once sama started getting the ball to the midfield we played well. aquilani, spearing, suso, shelvey played well. adorjan was okay as was lucas. he still need time to get back to his best. then pacheco played well as did ibe however ecclestone was poor. joe cole wasn't great either and his delivery was crap. sterling played well and of course morgan got the goal to cap off a decent performance.

Please don't bite my head off but is anyone worried that Gerrard will find it difficult to play this so called 'tika-taka' football? Yes, he is an absolutely outstanding talent but in recent years he hasn't exactly been the most mobile of players. Also, his touch and short passing are one of the weaker parts of his game, he's powerful and direct. I personally see both him and Adam struggling to play in this new system. For me, I'd have him in the 'free role' like Benitez had him in. You only want him on the ball in the final third. Just interested to see people's thoughts on this?
ShelveyTheNextGerrard.

Gerrard is a world class player he may be getting old but I think hel do just fine. Now Adam might struggle IMO just because tphe has the pace of a tortoise and sprays long balls alot.

Not mobile? At 32 he's still one of our fastest players. Didnt you see against norwich when he made that lung bursting run to nick the ball and then set up suarez?

Hounsred

Gerrard struggle with passing? Do your eyes work??

Dont worry about stevie g fitting in with br tika- taka footy, class players can play and adapt to any kind of system, didn't you watch the euro's , he was England's best player.

Yes your right mate. Gerrards more suited to the Real Madrid/ Man Utd surge forward counter attacking style and not the Barca ball retention patient possession game. Rogers has a problem.

Yeah a middle 3 of Lucas and Allen, with Gerrard ahead in a 'free' role.

Actually, Gerrard does have a habit of being impatient in possession and going for a killer ball too early. But even he does occassionally do that, he's still a very good one and two touch passer, and probably the best attacking player at the club, so he'll make up for it.

I remember when he came back from injury last year, and it was absurd how much more assured in possession than the rest of the team he was. I think he'll be okay.

Hey Eds

In the Europa League do you think we will see some or most of the youngsters on show v Toronto getting a chance?

Thanks

Hi eds it's my first post and I think I speak for the majority when I say I think your all fantastic and do a great job .

Have any of you heard of any new names that we are strongly being linked too ?

Thanks

Mo new names then ? Cheers {Ed002's Note - You mean like "Today's Targets"? No, but I have said I think Sinclair might become a taget after the Olympics.}

Sorry I put mo instead of no in the last post . I have had a few sherbets . Thanks for the feedback though

We should just buy swansea

I know we are turning into an average Swansea side with Allen and Sinclair coming.

You weren't in Europe last season come to think of it you weren't in any cups for long last season. I've noticed no one knocking at the door for Ba and he's only 7mil. At least Andy won a medal last year what do your boys have? 5th wow.

5th for a club who only recently returned to the EPL. Pretty good going when all the so called experts had us down for relegation..Where did you finish again after spending millions? That's right below Newcastle and miles behind at that for a team you think should be title challenging every year. As for Ba and 7 million, that is only for Champions League clubs. So that rules you out at that price.

Yes busted, I am red through and through but this sort of arrogance annoys me lets face it Newcastle were brilliant last season why try and belittle another team.
In a war of words when you have little ammo.

Newcastle are only big in Newcastle mate, finish ahead of Liverpool for a few seasons and qualify for European football for a few seasons on the trott and then you can brag buddy.Finishing below the toon one season doesn't make us a bad team and for the toon to finish above us does not make Newcastle a great team, one off wonders mate.Check the record books for trophies won and you will get the picture...

Allen and Dempsey look like the most probable signings this summer, but with us being linked with Walcott recently, and with his current contract situation, we have a good chance of signing him.
Also, Rodgers has expressed his admiration for Sinclair. If he could manage to sign these four players, which in my opinion are very realistic, then our team will be much improved this summer.
Walcott and Sinclair down the flanks, Dempsey just behind Suarez, Gerrard & Allen or Lucas in the middle of the park. With Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique solid at the back.

Champions League wouldn't be too far away!

hi eds all reds i read on here maybe 2 weeks ago , a post which i agreed with , but havent read anyone else say the same thing. i cant remember the posters name , if they read this , im sorry about that , just wanted to know what the eds and reds thought. if skretel were to leave , instead of spending a lot of money on a replacement , what about playing stevie g there? he can pass , long and short , tackle , head the ball , has pace , readsv the game and could bring the ball out of defence and get the team playing from the back. plus , he and agger would great together in my opinion. it would also spare stevie the box to box all action style we are all so used to. hes approaching 32 and it may help prolong his career. we do have other midfielders and it looks this mat be added to even more. im not saying br would consider this but thought it was a very good idea when i first saw it. godbless 96 all reds steviep62.

Hes not the best player in the air.

If Stevie's playin cb that decreases his chances of hittin game winning screamers from 30+ unless he starts practicing scoring from the halfway line

Yep, he could be the next Lothar Mattheus in my opinion. It would add five years to his career. And great players like Stevie can adapt to any position.

Mantis

Oh God no.

I know it's near sacrilege to say that any part of Stevie's game isn't perfect, but he struggles with his positioning and picking up the danger when he plays as a a DM (The only reason why it wasn't obvious in the Euros is because England were playing so defensively). He'd be destroyed because of it at CB. Even if he could play there, it'd still be a waste of his attacking talent anyway.

He's still got the ability to remain a world class attacking midfielder or second striker. So he should move further forward as he gets older, imo, and end up as a pure second striker in the style of Totti or del Piero.

- Something Red -

Would have to agree with Something Red on this one. Stevie is no doubt a great player and, although he's a decent defender, he's not really suited to doing so full time I don't think.

This year he could also play on the right of a front three. Or stay in midfield. I remember when he was young he was an amazing right back. Rampaging forward, crunching tackles, great crossing, the lot. Just shows you what a truly special, once in a lifetime player he was - and still is!!!!

Mantis

Didnt he start of as a CB.Not in my oppinion will it ever happen but too say he cant do it is a bit naive of you lot.

Question for the Eds and fellow posters- thus far, we obviously haven't been super active in terms of transfers and I think the general consensus was that we wouldn't do a whole lot this window (2-3 in being mentioned quite often). Now, though, we're hearing some substantiated (and many less so) rumors of the possibility of many first teamers being on the way out (Carroll, Suarez, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Adam, Downing, etc). At the end of the window, do others think it more or less likely that it'll just be a few players in/out, a mass upheaval, or something in between?

RDL

I think it will be very little or a lot mate . if carroll then suarez go , maybe johnson for reasons said many times , skretel and so on , whole sale! if we can hold on to them all really and add one or two , especially up top , we could be going places , but worrying mate. steviep62.

I personally think its quiet at the mo due to a combo of u.s tour and BR preferred targets playing in the olympics. Frustrating, but makes sense based on a few of Ed 001 & 002 responses ive seen.

Red G

Agreed, steviep- for me I think it'll either be not much more than what is already being speculated (e.g. Dempsey and Allen in, couple out) or more like a nearly completely new 11 come September.

I'm not sure which I prefer as on one hand I'm mostly happy with what we have with a few smaller changes (and hopefully an improvement in finishing, like not hitting the woodwork so much and maybe making a much higher percentage of penalties) but on the other seeing what BR would do with like £60-70M in new players could be pretty interesting. A bit worrisome though on that front as their wouldn't be a lot of time left to sell and bring in players before the start of the season proper.

Either way, think it will be a pretty interesting August!

All the young ones played some fine football last night. I was impressed with everyone considering it was the first tome they played first team football. If they are given chances in the future to play for even fifteen minutes on every game they will turn to some serious football force that will destroy defenses

I personally think Joe Allen is a great buy providing we can offload some of the other midfielders we have that aren't up to scratch. Personally I'd sell aqua, Adam, cole and spearing, leaving us with gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Lucas and possible chances for the likes of suso

Totally agree with the outs, pal. I have heard that Steve Clarke adores Spearing,so with a bit of luck he might come in for him

Just another average player added to the squad.
He isn't called average joe for nothing.

Don't be a pessimist Chris. Think happy thoughts!

Nick.

Van Persies going to Man U tho so that blows that theory out the window! I reclon Juve will get Dzeko.

If RvP goes to either of the Manchester clubs, I think that'll make the odds of Suarez going to Juve even higher than they already are, honestly.

hi eds and fellow reds.. i know im just probably stating the obvious and repeating one of the many posts on the site but the question is if were willing to pay 10-12m on dempsey im fine with that ( even tho he is on last year of contract and aged 29, prices in the EPL seem to have gone out of control past couple of years ) its just my opinion that we can easily splash that wee bit more and try get in m.suarez. ive been looking at this kid over the past 6 months since we last showed interest in january, and its amazing how much hes progressed the last 3 years. Hes got great vision, pace, finishing, he is young, and a lot of flare which sums up really all liverpool are looking in a winger right now and i rate this kid greatly. I know im not a professional scouter or pretend to know whats best for the team, ill leave that to BR, but its just my opinion and hes worth a shot. Yet, whatever happens, come the end of the transfer window we should all accept the boss's decisions and back the team 100%. YNWA

Who else enjoyed watching Shelvey tackle that tiny winger? Jonjo doesn't care if its a friendly apparently...That and Suso's little turn out of traffic in the box for a shot were my two favorite moments of the game.

phillyred

Shelvey will develop into a fine attaching midfielder. He just needs game time continuously to keep it up

Agree Shelvey will be a top player thats why i don't get why we are after average joe allen.

I think Shelvey is a different kind of player from Allen, so comparing the two isn't really fair to either. Do think they're both quite good though with a lot of potential.

One thing I've wondered is if Shelvey might not make a decent forward on either the right or left of a 4-3-3.

Shelvey will be great once he deflates his ego.

In regards to many fans not warming to the idea of Allen. I wonder if you put an o on the end of his name and change his passport to spainish if that would change your minds. I think Demsey would be a great buy and even though he is not getting any younger he scores the goals we need. I still think we are way off the big boys at the top but if we spend wisely protect the kids and bring them in at the right time we will be up there in a few years. Rodgers has made big changes at the club i think 433 is the way forward in the modern game. People have been critical of his dealing with Carroll but i say it might be more cruel to the lad if he just sits on the bench watching. Instead if we sell him we can improve other parts of the team that have needed to be addressed for years. I think the owners want to take a different approach this year in terms of spending large ammounts. If Rodgers makes some great buys who prove to be a sucess then i think the owners will trust him even more with transfers, but people on this site need to be more realistic in terms of how quickly Rodgers is going to take to implement his style.

Red raj

Read an interesting point about Dempsey online which was that, whilst many players in England burn out once they get over 30, Dempsey has been playing high tempo football for a much shorter time than most. He made his first-team debut at 21 and that was in the MLS, which was at that point a much slower league. He's not been playing high-intensity football for very long so there's no reason he should have injury troubles as he gets older, he could keep going for years

Red Ollie

This point has been made many of times mate. Maybe just accept that some of us have watched the lad play and have not been too impressed. I for one think he is a decent player with a good work ethic, good control and decent passing. My concerns are that his vision for a defence splitting pass is not so good that he is worth the money that is being quoted. I also feel that we fans have known for about 5 years that we need a wide right player, we lack pace and a little flair. In no way does Allen fill any of these glaring holes in our team. So Maybe give some of us a little credit- js because we may have a differing view from u doesn't mean we're wrong or ignorant because Allen isn't foreign!

To start with let's all forget wallcott joining us, as soon as rvp leaves arsenal wallcotts price will rocket up just to stop a rot at arsenal! That will stop us going in for him, and all this is before we even know if he is interested in a move?! Anyway on with positives and it's only a matter of time before Allen and Dempsey or part of the squad so there is two good additions, I'm also confident of another "decent" singing but I can't be 100% sure who it will be. Stay positive reds YNWA

Where did I compare Allen to xavi or iniesta? I said that both of them play sideways and backwards passes to keep possession to that negates that theory about that being the only reason that Allen was the 6th most accurate passer in Europe last season.

Anybody who thinks Allen wouldnt be a good signing is deluded, only gerrard and possibly Lucas are better players and remember how much stick he got when he 1st signed. A midfield of Allen, Lucas, shelvey and Henderson has masses of potential and would be a main stey over the next few seasons

Andy

If Liverpool keep buying average players the likes of Allen, Henderson, Downing they will remain an average side whilst the likes of Spurs, Newcastle will continue to pull away from them. Liverpool are already some distance behind the top 4 sides. Stevie G isn't getting any younger. Can't carry you lot forever.

I disagree strongly, Henderson is young and will develop into a very solid player, has an great attitude in a day and age of diving cry babies. Allen has shown this year he has a lot of quality and has good knowledge of BR's System, for 10 mil (or around there) he could be a very good buy.

Downing I never understood the decision to buy him tbh but as he is a Liverpool player I support him.

Ska-oop

Look at Man United's midfield. Carrick, Anderson and an Ageing scholes still seem to dominated midfield. I'd say Gerrard, Lucas and Allen is a way better midfield than that, wouldn't you?

BthekingB

Joe Allen would walk into Man Utds midfield. He'd get into Arsenals and Tottenhams aswell.

No I wouldn't say that midfield is better than Man U. Scholes is still the best English midfielder in the country and Allen would not walk into that side. He is very average tidy player no more.

Parker,Modric....Scholes,Carrick....Wiltshire, Song...Tiote, Cabeye. He wouldn't get into any of those CM midfield slots. FACT.

Hmmmmmm what did people think of Bale 3 years ago, and what about Ramsey at Arsenal. Morons.

Henderson was played out of position last year. Allan has fantastic potential, That added to Lucas, Gerrard, Aqualani (if he stayed) It's a midfield that can more than compete, has youth and LFC (with the first 3) could have the mainstay of their midfield for the next 10 years.

Sterling, Suso and maybe Ibe/Morgan but not on a regular basis. Robinson probably already counts.

How is that a change its asked everyday

If Morgan continues scoring in these warm-up friendly's do people think he maybe given a shot, his ability to be in the right place at the right time is amazing imo, other parts need a fair bit of work in his game but he certainly has a lot of talent overall.

Sterling, Suso, Wisdom, Eccleston, Coady

Ed002 you seem to be in the know regarding our scouting in Brazil. So can please tell me is there any truth in this.

According to Globoesporte, 15-year-old William Oliveira Souza, nicknamed William McLaren because of his pace, could be on his way to Liverpool. The teenage midfielder was spotted after taking part in the Pnera “ an online competition that allows young players to submit videos of themselves and the winner gets a trial at a top Brazilian club.
McLaren says he's been offered a three-year deal by the Merseysiders but that other sides had taken a look at him. A representative from Liverpool watched me play. He liked me and offered me a contract. Other clubs like Manchester, Chelsea and Arsenal were also interested said the youngster who is trying to get a European passport. McLaren is expected to travel to England this weekend {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

Go play Fifa and you can sign whoever you want. I for one am not envious of these other clubs.

The plan for the club is to bring the lads through into the first team.Watching a lot of the Youth and reserve team games last season we really are buying some top youngsters.I honestly believe that we are going to have some team.without buying every year.Rodgers in charge and his ability, and track record with youngsters all leads me to think we are heading in the right direction. We can't compete in the transfer market with City and Chelsea,so it makes sense to try and by them young.

Yeah, fourth highest goal scorer last season who can play both as main striker and supporting striker as well as attacking midfield. 'Average' isn't a word I'd use - I suppose if he came from Real Madrid's B Team you'd be wetting yourself in excitement though. It's starting to get really tedious listening to so-called 'fans' be so unsatisfied with signings that haven't even happened yet - show a little bit of positivity for God's sake!

Brendan Rodgers is planning to offer Sterling, Morgan and Suso on loan to Swansea next season and hoping it may reduce the price of Allen as well as giving them experience. He rates all 3 very highly. {Ed002's Note - No, that is not possible at all.}

You can only take two players from the same club on loan at the one time. It's to stop bigger teams from giving small ones a few quid to act as their "B" teams. So they can't take all three.

And if Swansea have sense, they won't knock a lot off Allen's price for teenage loanees who've not played 90 minutes of senior football.

I've posted a couple of times but not displayed.

Quite honestly, Brendan Rodger won't wanna miss out on Kevin Mirallas. From what i see, he's got pace, trickery, technical abilities and a good eye for goal.

Dat guy is a genius with so much capabilities. For the clause i heard of in his contract. It says he's got a 6million release clause which is just a perfect buy. Olypiakos would miss a gem if LFC take adv of the clause and buy. Eds, what do you reckon?

In defensive of Ibe, Toronto were good enough to get two over against him on many occasions where as Pacheco found himself 1 on 1 far more often. Both showed good signs though.

Is it just me or does anyone else think we are acting like a mid-table team when it comes to the transfer market , here we are Less than four weeks away from the season ,only one player in and he's not trained with the team yet ,plus we surely have to bring in at least three more players ,and above all this change the style of football to tiki taka ,we must by now know our targets we would like to bring in ,but no lets wait and try and bring the price down (clint dempsey) (Sigurdsson)one of these players I mentioned could be training and getting to know the style but no lets try and save half a million and take chance someone else could step in (tottenham)do the owners have any idea that our first three games at home are City, arsenal, Manu ,it's looking to me like it's going to be same old story premier league over by Xmas no chance of champions league ,press on brendans back come october sorry for the rant on a Sunday morning but when you read this ,think about last years top five teams in the league and at this moment in time would you place Liverpool Fc in the mix with them .answer not a chance we are to indecisive in the transfer market !!

Couldn't agree more, just hope that BR has a magic wand

Last season, early in the transfer window we bought Adam, Downing and henderson. That worked out brilliantly, didn't it ?

Kev.

Yes but last season we did did not undertake a change of football style did we ?

Just thought id post who i thought played well against Toronto FC....
1st Half:
- Aquilani
- Ibe
- Pacheco
2nd Half:
- Shelvey
- Sterling
- Suso
- Cole

Why do people always forget defenders

Red Raw

Sorry mate I think I was watching a different game. Cole did nothing but slow the ball down with small touches and no penetration (like rubbish sex) he couldn't deliver a ball into the box even when he had no pressure on him.

Aside from that I do agree with most of that. Aqualani seemed a bit off the pace but his touch was pretty decent. In my opinion, Shelvey needs to be in the team more, definitely ahead of Adam in terms of tackling and Spearing with his passing and movement!

Canadian Red

I didnt rate Aquilani for effectiveness. He is very neat and looks good on the ball but didnt really achieve too much. Cole was non-existent for patches and his end product was poor on too many occasions. Both will have to do a lot more to justify keeping them on their wages in my opinion.

Rodgers has explained he only had one training session before the game he arrived late due to his participation in the euros with Denmark and will be involved against Roma. I can't see how you immediately assumed he was leaving?

He was on the sideline with the rest of the team. You can see him in the background when Morgan went to celebrate with carragher when he scored. He wasn't a sub just spectating.

Expect a late bid to be made for Gaston Ramirez, closing days of the transfer window, LFC don't want to get into a bidding war which is what Bologna prefers. So far non of the interested parties are willing to meet Bologna's valuation.

We 'll strike at the last minute.
No doubt Ramirez prefers a move.

Bit of a random question but why have so many premier league clubs gone to America for preseason? {Ed002's Note - Clubs will go to where their expanding market is and where they are looking for sponsorship. They will also look to training facilities available (which are good in the States) and where they can generate good income from games. The larger clubs will look to alternating years between North America and the Far East. In the future you will likely see a lot more happening with teh Middle East.}

Actually Man Utd, were here in South Africa, played two games one in Durban and one in Cape Town.
Both games attended by more than 50K fans.

Liverpool should definitely come to India. India is huge market with a lot of football fans and the popularity of the sport only grows every year. With the second largest population in the world they can really exploit the market over here. Now that adidas is no longer making our shirts how am i going the buy the new jersey since there is no warrior over here.

amar {Ed002's Note - The problem Amar is that right now India does not have the clubs and venues able to afford to pay a major side the amount that they need to play a game. Perhaps in a few years this will change with if India's Premier Soccer League does finally happen. As for the shirt, try an on line search from India for the kit. I am sure that there is either a distributor in India or a supplier willing to ship locally. If not, maybe one of the other Indian folks would know.}

To Amar,

I also live in India. I ordered the new Warrior home kit online from the official LFC store and got it in a week. You shouldn't have any problems getting it wherever you are in India.

Cheers

A lot of talk about incomings but this is the players I see leaving.

Aquilani - Nees his wages and ego away from the club. May impress in pre-season but don't be fooled, he's likely to have stubbed his little toe in Decemeber and miss most of the season until it slightly warns up in April.

Joe Cole - I like Joe, he's a fighter and does want to suceed. But I just can't see him fitting in, he's a player that likes to retain the ball, take lots of touches and often slows the play. He's also on astronomical wages for a squad player.

Adam - Similar to Cole for me, I just can't see him conforming to BR's style of football. He's never tracks, plays Hollywood through balls and just doesn't keep things simple and effective. Would be a great deal as a straight swap fr Dempsey.

One of the above three may stay and if they do I see Shelvey going on loan, or perhaps Spearing leaving ons permanant deal.

Bellamy - Would be gutted if he left, but he may feel its his last shot at helping push Cardiff to promotion. Ideally he doesn't go, as I don't think Sterling is quite ready to step into his role for another 12 months.

Carroll - Seems inevitable now, given BR's approach to the situation and the interest from various clubs. Personally I understand why BR wouldn't want Carroll, as a good few games shouldn't hide a lot of bad ones. If he goes hopefully replaced with someone more suitable.

With these departures and the obvious two arrivals of Dempsey and Allen, I see a little more needed. A midfield six of Spearing (purely back up), Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson and Shelvey seems good to me. You've got experience in Lucas and Gerrard, composure in Henderson and Allen, fight in Spearing and an unpredictable all rounder in Shelvey.

Up top you've got Downing, who is flexible in terms of playing either side in a three. Yes he's more of a winger, but I'm hoping BR can get the most out of him. Suarez, Dempsey and Borini are all likely to start. With hopefully one more to join and then being backed up by Pacheco, Sterling and Suso, although he may play a little deeper.

The defense I expect not to change, as I hope Skrtel and Agger will commit to new contracts. Enrique should be backed by Robinson and Johnson by Kelly or Flannagan if Kelly moves to CB. Carra has one more year and Coates will hopefully play more now he's settled. Youth may be called on if required in the shape of Sama or Wisdom, but I can't see a place for Wilson.

The goal keeping places I four will change. If Doni leaves then Galucsi may take his place.

Papa G

I can really see that team go far, if we beat the smaller teams then we'll easily get top four. We all know how even last year we dominated the top teams for most games and if anything we're just going to get stronger.

We did buy Downing after he excelled in a front 3 at Villa, hopefully he can replicate that form for Liverpool next season

22 Jul 2012 10:48:17
Anything on Walcott or Gaston Ramirez? all the rumours have gone quiet, we must be looking for a winger to replace maxi and kuyt?

LJH {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed with either.}

22 Jul 2012 10:35:11
He ed do you know if the rumours about us looking at Deulofeu are true?

Sort of signing that would make sense young with big potential and plays for Barca so the whole fitting Rogers' system wouldn't be a problem either. {Ed002's Note - I would have thought a loan move within Spain to be more likely than a permanent move to England. Would he get in the Liverpool team? If not, would he be interested in the move? I don't know.}

Barca don't sell their best kids anymore so would take a very big bid to get him, more than he's proved he's worth anyways.

22 Jul 2012 10:32:31
Hi eds, firstly a sincere thank you for all the hard work you all put in and for your patience with some of the posters, don't know how you do it.
Not a rumour as such, more of an observation. In the lead up to the signing of Borini, there were many articles on the official website in relation to his move. However, two days before he signed, these stories were removed. Have been keeping an eye on this and I've noticed that articles about Dempsey have been removed. Now this could just be coincidence but i have a feeling he will be signing very soon and would not be surprised if he is at the Liverpool v Roma game in Boston. Just a hunch, what you think eds, fellow posters.
Cheers,
Ballina Red {Ed002's Note - I can't answer as I have no idea what they do with the main club site. There has certainly been a lot of interest in Dempsey and I do expect a deal to go through at some point.}

22 Jul 2012 10:28:43
Pacheco was decent yesterday.
I was impressed with Sama, Wisdom and Ibe.
Sterling did ok.
Morgan looks like a predator type of forward that we haven't really had since Rush.
Shelvey looked good (some strong tackles too ;-) ).
Wilson looked composed on the ball in defence.
Cole looked quite sharp.

Best player by far for me was Suso. We have to tie him down to a long term contract now.
It won't be long before he is in the Spain first team - he is that good!!

He's going to be the next Iniesta/Silva imo. Great control of the ball and can always find a pass

Disagree , Raheem and Morgan doing better then pesacho and ibe.

What about fowler??

Morgan the only predator-type since Rush? Forget Fowler did we? :D

Didn't forget Fowler. scored from everywhere whereas as Rush seemed to score more inside the 6 yard box just like Morgan last night

liverpool deals 2012/13

out
with kuyt, doni and rodriguez allready gone expect aqualani and carroll to go as well rodgers will also look to offload adam and downing if right offer comes in as neither are deemed mobile enough for this formation.

ins

bolini...£11 million deal.................( agreed)
sinclair ..£6 million
dempsey..£8.5 million
allen..£12 million
ramierez..£15 million

One of either Adam or aqua will be kept as an experience back up for Allen. I see either shelvey or spearing going out on loan. I doubt rogers is looking to bring in five players as I think he'll keep downing. I expect Bellamy Carroll and either Adam or aqua to be moved on (dempsy replacing Carroll) and a winger as a replacement for Bellamy. Preferred options are Kevin mirralas, affelly or ramirez but I see us going for either sinclaire, Walcott or Sturridge.

Take Allen and Sinclair out of them ins and i'm happy with the rest.

Good game last night. It shows that Liverpool have some real gems in the youth side. Credit must go to rafa for helping setting it all up and the youth managers for training them.

Just a small note on sterling. Yesterday he was average for him. He can do much better then that. Can't wait till he really outs in a performance .

I would like to see Pacheco,Morgan and Suso given chances in and around the first team squad this season. I like Sterling but a loan would be great for him.

Mighty reds

Morgan is talented but not ready yet. Sterling and Suso will get chances, but they're likely to be from the bench or in Carling Cup/early Europa games.

I think the same can be said for a few others such as Robinson, maybe Ibe and Sama.

Papa G

The way I see Morgan is that he can easily be the next Robbie Fowler or Neil Mellor. It depends on how much effort he wants to put in.

If they bought Clint Dempsey for the American part of the tour surely shirt sales would rocket, I mean isn't that what fsg is all about.....money? {Ed002's Note - FSG don't get the money from shirt sales - Warrior do.}

Why didn't they go to the far east then were they get to keep the revenue from the shirt sales not my words but them of Ian ayre. {Ed002's Note - They don't get to keep the revenue of the shirts in the Far EAst - I think you misunderstood something Ayre said. Why do you think Warrior give all of that sponsorship money to Liverpool?.}

What about online orders from America for dempsey top and number? That would make loads of more money for them. {Ed002's Note - If there are a few online orders made from the US they will likely be to American distributors of the shirts.

The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Warrior, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

Warrior make money on the sales of our shirts we tour pre seasons to expand our fan base thus creating a better base to sell more shirts etc and makes us more attractive for future sponsors. Football clubs sign contracts with shirt sponsors and makers and get monies over the period of the contract. Ed002 is correct so hope this clears it up for fellow supporters
Up the pool
Redan

Yes but Warrior pay FSG for the rights to manufacture the shirts, enhancing the volume would only serve to bolsters FSGs position as and when the contract comes up for renewal. All part of the business cycle.

Ozone {Ed002's Note - The contract has only just started. Buying Dempsey to sell a few shirts in the States to facilitate FSG being in a better position to negotiate a deal with Warrior in a few years time is not a consideration.}

if we sign allen, dempsey, affellay, and with everyone fit again ie;gerrard, lucas, adam plus the return of j.cole n aquaman frm their loans we have a strong team to compete.i also think players like downing, adam, henderson will have a better season this year and carroll if he stays .i like the way BR gets his teams to play good passing football great to watch n well win mre games.

22 Jul 2012 09:38:56
hi ive also heard a rumour involving a swap deal for ramirez,aquaman + 10m,also i the joe allen deal will be completed next week along with dempsey n affellay.another rumour thats keeps coming up is the sale of carroll + downing to raise the cash for cavani is this true? {Ed002's Note - No.}

Carroll is meeting up with the squad on Monday.

22 Jul 2012 09:35:39
Adam Morgan is a theif he stole that goal from Raheem Sterling. Suso blew me away second half what a player we have. Just hope FSG dont sell because it seems every other player has a price on his head.

He got in front of the defender to score that goal. if he hadnt, the defender would have cleared it.

The ball would of been cleared off the line but i shared the same thought at 1st. STEMLOCC1

Shows great positioning to be right there to help the ball into the goal. I'd happily see him score a hatrick against the mancs all from within 6 yards.

The star take a pop at Luis today. Ed is right that he will just get to the point where he says he will never be treated fairly by the press and fa and he will request a transfer. Yeah we have a much worse team. We are definately going to be starting the season with Ibe, Sama, and Flanagan. Gerrard wont play, either will Suarez, or Johnson, or Reina, or Borini, or Agger.

It was great to see a live game again it feels like forever since we last played! I think the desire(and quality) was so much better in the second half you could see the players really trying to move the ball quickly and trying to use two touch. As everyone has been saying I think our future looks bright, I absolutely loved Suso anyway(that double drag back) but yesterday he was awesome(although a shakey start) I really hope he along with sterling see some minutes next season, and perhaps a cameo from Morgan. Is it selfish to say I don't want sterling to be loaned? I think he can really play a part this year! Some of the players out there I really wouldn't lose any sleep over selling them like aquilani who couldn't be arsed, like Adam, cole, spearing. Finally I really hope Brendan sticks by his statement "if your old enough your good enough" because I know 99% of us think sterling should play and would you rather have Suso or Cole playing?(no need to answer that one) overall this will take time but looks like we have a good foundation with a few more additions we can be a real force under Rodgers. Well done lads YNWA

Square tomato

It's really strange as most of the posts I have seen agree with you about the second half performance being better but to be honest I thought the first half was better.

We seemed to control the possession much bette first half and the closing down seemed better. I thought second half we were a bit sloppy in possession and lost the ball easily.

Interesting game though, I'm sure most of us will agree it looked promising.

JRG

I agree I thought we were tighter in the first half and looked more professional. Just goes to show how footy is base on personal opinions :-)

I suppose your right about the first half being tighter but I just felt the second half wanted to impress more but like you say it's down to opinion at the end of the day also great to see Lucas back(future captain)

Hello Eds, I have 2 Questions
1. Any update on Allen or Dempsey deal ?
Is it true fulham want Adam as part of deal ?
2. Did you watch the game yesterday ?
What was your take on the game ? I thought spearing did really well.(surprisingly)

I think the club really needs to start moving on a few players : Brad Jones (since its time we made Gulcasi the 3rd choice and give him games in cup matches) , Charlie Adam , Joe Cole , Bellamy , Carroll (only since the manager wants to) , Ecclestone , Aquilani (if he does stay loan out shelvey).
And then Just HOPE Suarez , Agger , Skrtel STAY. {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new in respect of transfers this morning. I did not watch the friendly.}

Isn't that 4 questions?

i m a bit annoying with everyone fawning over our supposed tika taka football last night
nonsense, it was an enjoyable pre season friendly where the kids did well especially second half

wish people would stop getting carried away as if brendan rodgers is the messiah after one pre season friendly game against a canadian side

tom1975

Mate that was our reserves and youth players against a team who albeit aren't that good but who are way ahead of us in fitness and sharpness so it was better than you think.

22 Jul 2012 08:49:41
Was impressed with, Sama, Wisdom, Aqualani & Pacheco first half, and Sterling, Suso, Robinson, Shelvey & the return of Lucas in the second. Adam and Spearing look like they don't understand pass and move, Wilson I thought looked championship class at best as did Adorjan, and apart from his goal Morgan did zip, not enough movement and did not find space. Still first game, and more positives than negatives.

22 Jul 2012 08:48:28
hoping we hold off on clint dempsey and go the extra yard to sign matias suarez if carroll leaves.

he can do it all really, mobile goodin the air, skilful on the deck

and have a suarez borini suarez frontline

could get him for 16 million i reckon, better striker than big andy, reallythink we should be jumping in to nab himnow before he goes totally global and is beyond us

1-1 - loads of possession - de ja vu?

Until the day we spend some money on a top attackingidfielder with

......................a big giant 'S' on his chest?

This was mainly our reserve team so don't get carried away. We haven't played a match since may, Toronto are still playing their season. First match of BR's philosophy so of course we were not favourites to win.

The first pre-season friendly with mostly young players and many first-teamers missing, including all of our first choice forward line, and you're complaining?! Jeez, my heart sinks when I read these posts, we actually played some decent football, but most of all, it helped our fitness levels ahead of the season. Get a grip...

22 Jul 2012 06:50:10
Last season I posted that our players seem to lose the ball too often, no control. Last night was totally opposite, their passes, headers and ball control looked good. I was very impressed at how they kept possession. What a difference. I can't wait for the season to start.

I was amazed at the amount of supporters there, and the commentators were saying how they were singing YNWA before the game. Fantastic I tell you!!

So proud of the youngsters, nice game.

All the negative posters need to find a new club to support quickly, before the season starts....

Craig Forrest was commentating on Sportsnet Canada. I was looking out for the Liverpool players he was mentioning, namely Pacheeko and Flan gin. Yep, he's defiinitely lost touch with the premier league since leaving West Ham.

Good Morning Reds,

Watched last nights match and the young lads made me proud, Adam Morgan, Raheem Sterling, Suso.

We should give them more runs in first XI.

This trio could very well be our future front three.

Morgan looks like the next big thing we might see after Fowler, Owen.

I think the more wise decision would be to keep these three and slowly introduced them into first XI. Forget loan moves, THEY ARE GOOD ENOUGH SO THEY ARE READY.

Joe Cole was crap last night once again, and Charlie Adam was slow as a snail. I am afraid he can't make it in BR's style of football. Better ship him out.

Bosco

Hey Brendon, Bosco says they are ready, ok?

22 Jul 2012 06:25:39
Having read reports this week that the Liverpool players are working hard on regaining the ball within 7 seconds, it reminded me off the fact that last season on the few occasions we did play near our best, that was how we played.
Admittedly we did not play that well that often but against united and city in the cups and against Arsenal & Chelsea in the league we closed down the opposition and retained possession well.
Therefore BR won't be making any radical changes only attempting to achieve what Rafe,Roy and Kenny failed to acheive and that's playing to our potential More often then not and making It count in terms of goals scored.
It counts for nothing when you hit the bar but if you had got half a goal for each time you did hit the frame of the goal we would have finished much higher up the league. Should BR manage to unlock that ability to convert a higher percentage of chances we are top for contenders for sure.
Andy Carroll and Stevie G both lacked pace and movement in the summer, and could both be found wanting in a team that has to work hard for 90 minutes, which is the model BR is looking at. Stevie will hopefully be given licence to roam and get involved when and where He see's fit.
Carroll is better with the ball then he's given credit for but he does plod back and wander around aimlessly when we don't have the ball, not sure that fits into BR plan.
I do hope AC can win BR Over though and find a roll that suits him. I would hate to see him leave and full fill his potential next season, he really is a 20+ goal scorer which we will need maybe 2 off if we are going to be involved near the very top of the table next season.

I've followed Liverpool for 35 years. It has been a long time since we've shown the level of interest in retaining possession and regaining possession that we did last night. Think you are being either unfair to BR or rewriting the style of our play under Rafa, Roy and Kenny. Last night in the first half particularly our players all moved to receive possession and when we lost it they fought hard to get it back asap. That is down to BR.

Im sorry but the football played under rafa was nitching like the football played under hodgson or daglish, it was class. We genuinely were a 1 touch team and we got to two champions league finals with it. Came second in the 08-09 season and the first team we had at the peak of rafa is miles better than the we had ever since. rafa brought a Spanish side to Liverpool with the likes of alonso, Garcia, riena, Torres, arbeloa etc and look what is happening with Spain now. You can't put rafa's football in the same league as hodgson or daglish because I don't remember us beating real Madrid 4-0 with ease with either of them two.

We played fantastic football for the first half of last season and then Carra started getting the nod, Gerrard returned after Xmas and we lost Lucas. Downhill there onwards. As much as I think Gerrards a class act and up there with the legends of LFC, sometimes it's the Gerrard show and I don't think he's a good team player. He certainly doesn't fit into the zrodgers pass and move concept, Gerrards more your Real Madrid, Man Utd type of player, fast counter attacking football, he does not fit into a patient ball retention/ work ethic style of football. Big dilemma for Rodgers.

Ozone

I think your wrong Ozone, sure he's not patient but his movements is exactly whats required. We need someone to always pass to and with his passing range and movement we can walk through the other teams defence/midfield.

Sorry mate, yes there were some great nights played under rafa, your right we made real Madrid look ordinary but that's because at that time they where, I will always be great full to rafa for some outstanding nights but I'm afraid the football we played under kenny was much more entertaining and intense it was bAd luck and poor finishing that stopped us from gaining about 15-20 more points on the board, I will always look back with great memories on rafa and kennys reign but now let's back Brendan cos he's a young man at a massive club with the best supporters in the world so let's give him that support cos we all want the same thing

Ozone, you obviously did not watch one England game at the Euro's this summer then?! Gerrard's work ethic as captain was through the roof for his team mates. he is an all round player capable of passing short or long depending on the requirements of what each manager puts in front of him in games. at every position and particular style of manager he's played under he has adapted, so why wouldn't he be able to adapt back to the basic fundamentals he was taught as a kid. 'get the ball, give the ball'.
he'll thrive once he realises his team mates have their own confidence on the ball

{Ed022's Note - Morning everyone. I just thought I'd say that the 'Upload Your Own Profiles' section has really taken off, and there are several profiles that will be of interest to you Liverpool fans. There is (to name but a few) a profile on Joe Allen, Kevin Mirallas and now there is TWO profiles on Clint Dempsey, both done by different fans. There are also several other profiles, so feel free to come on over to the site and check them out, as fans like yourself have worked very hard on them. www.player-profiles.co.uk - thanks all.}

The picture of morgan celebrating and running towards carragher is brilliant, from that picture carra looks like a coach, and noy just any coach, a coach with pure passion, something this club has lacked at times (other then kenny and sammy lee) and hopefully we will see him in that role soon

RedPJ

Lets just hope jamie hasnt given morgan the carra curse, he scored on his debut too! lets hope he's slightly more prolific then the nr.23

Did anyone else notice in the pregame interview with BR he stated something to the effect of, "how many big players Liverpool has had in the past and that was something that we would like to carry into the future". I may have read too much into it but I think he may have been hinting at a "big name" signing. I do think that BR listen's to the fans "the statement he made about AC after everybody started freaking out about it"' and he has already stated that a new manager should respect the past of the organization that he is taking over.

He may not have meant to sign a "big name" player when he arrived he may very well have thought that he could do the job by filling in the gaps and improving the current squad. However, he made this pregame statement about the "big players" that Liverpool has had in the past after he talked with the fans in Toronto. I thought it was interesting and the connection made sense to me but I maybe misreading it.

Also I wanted to state that Suarez is a great player and a good family man he is absolutely NOT the person that the media is trying to portray him as. For those talking on here about replacing him seriously who in the world with? Please I seriously want to know what player in the world that you know of and would be even remotely possible for us to get could replace him. The only player that I can even think of possibly filling his shoes that would be possible for us in this window would be Thomas Muller but even he does not give us the same impact Suarez has though the two together would be absolutely amazing to see. Please those who would consider selling him put some names down as possible replacements that would be obtainable in this window.

Coley SHA
{Ed022's Note - Gaston Ramirez, Matias Suarez.}

Ed022 thank you for the response and putting some names out there. I have not seen much of Ramirez or M. Suarez in full games but I have of course seen their youtube videos and from what I have seen of M. Suarez I really think he is a special talent. However, Luis Suarez has been with the team for over a 1 1/2 years now and generally speaking you only get better when you know your team mates well. I know what we will get from Luis Suarez next year but I would have to say that the others would be a bit of a risk being new to the team and to the EPL. There are certain players that you can feel very confident that they will adapt well to just about any team or league but with Ramirez and Suarez's youth, do either of them speak english?, and possible issues with the physical side of the EPL I would be nervous about that trade off. Would you disagree with my assertion? Thanks.

Coley SHA {Ed022's Note - I've profiled both Ramirez and M.Suarez if it helps with assessing their talents etc etc. The thing is, you can't think about the small things too much. If we think of someone like Messi (who's English is very poor) replacing Suarez, would you have the same concerns? A player must speak through his game. Physicality is much more of an issue, but I believe both players could probably adapt to that quickly. However, it all depends on how they settle into the country/area, and that will reflect onto the pitch.}

M .Suarez is not an option as you have stated he can not get a work permit ,cheers ant

Thought I'd give my opinion of the game against TFC... As we all should know it's not so much about the result as it is about individuals performance. The first half to me seemed like it was mostly fringe players and the decent youth and reserve players(aside from Jamie who was his usual and Jose who was a little sluggish). None showed really well. The top performances in the opening half for me were from spearing and aquilani but neither did anything too special. The second half was more of the young lads who we expect big things from as well as skyrtle and cole who both looked pretty good aside from cole's set peices. Everyone looked promising. The three that had the best showing for me were shelvey, stearling and suso. All look very promising. I for one am very excited about a few of our youngsters and hope they get their chances this season!

Red Panda

In the first half Danny Pachiao was quality on the left wing. Aqua man and Adam should have bossed midfield and went missing too much for me - confirming their departure. Second good agree joe Coles set pieces were rusty - hopefully. Suso on right, Stirling on left were v good.

eds just wanted to say that you do an amazing job whatever day or a night you are there and i have looked at old posted and i have to say that i dont think ive seen a post that is wrong from eds so for that,thank you, and now iam going to be serious i kow that liverpool havent got alot of money to spend and from my reasearch we have about 20 million to spend plus money we get from transfer, so we have spent around about 12 milloin on borini including everthing and that would leave 8 milloin and with carroll leaving for good or on loan even though brendan rodgers has said that he wouldent consider sending him on loan for about 15 possibly 18 million which would add up to too 23-25 milloin and with liverpools season we cant be spending that much on one player so eds iam a liverpool fan and if i was manager i would sign dempsey kjaer allen and adam johnson at a push and would bring suso sterling and adorjan into first team squad and cup games at a push what do u think eds? {Ed022's Note - I believe you have a very realistic post, but I would advice not to post all in capitals as the post usually gets deleted. I'll say that if Skrtel is sold then Kjaer may be an option, and I also believe Rodgers will certainly work on bringing in the likes of Suso, Raheem and possibly Morgan into the first team next season, however much depends on incomings/outgoings. As Ed002 has said, things will become clearer after the tour.}

22 Jul 2012 02:08:53
it would be safe to say joe allen will be indeed lining out in the red of liverpool next season..Clint dempsey also seems as if hes on the way..now heres my question..when carroll goes (as i am sure he will) would dempsey be his replacement as he can play as a striker or would it be implied that an out and out striker would be brought in?

22 Jul 2012 02:07:44
do people agree that we still need a replacement right winger? with kuyt gone, and sterling, arguably, not quite there yet, i sense a gap. that being said, if dempsey signs, that may be filled.

im sick to death of hearing how bad a state my beloved club is in how badly the club is run when in fact financially we are in the best state we have been in for years! you may not like to hear it but kk cocked it up royally last season spending over 100 mill on garbage so no owner in the world would risk it again in only there second yaer in charge! you havent got a clue how much money is available for all we now we could be negotiating with messi (just an example not really happening)! so please let BR do his job an let see who he has at the start of the season! the players who we are getting rid off im i for one are delighted to see go!

kuyt! great servant but he just wasnt up to the level of playin anymore!
maxi! just not gud enough but thank you for all your service!
carroll! cost 35 mill 8 goals in nearly 2 years! i think hypia had a better record so im sorry thats pethetic!

so please can someone tell me what bad job BR is doing? we wer not a bad side last season an wer not now! we just had a very tactically inept manager who totally refused to drop players who just wernt up to scratch because he bought them an persisted with weak players like shelvey adam downing an spearing!
the owners are not running the club badly theyr just making sure that another 100 mill isnt wasted again on garbage! coz at the end of the day they own the club so wether its cash out ther own pockets or from player sales its ther cash! so they say at the end of the day they say yay or nay over evry single penny!

i for one am looking forwad to next season with a better and much more exiting team to watch than last season

I tried saying the same thing about Kenny a while ago a.d was told I wasn't a true fan. Regardless of what Kenny has done for the club people have to realize he was out of his depth last season hence the owners chopping him. No disrespect to the man he probably loves the club most but we need to admit the shortcomings and move onwards and upwards.

just watched liverpool vs toronto and wanted to say adjorgen played decent sterling and suso played abaloust amazing i would reward them by playint them in next pre season match on wednesday vs roma and if them perform as they did today i would consider them next season iam not saying first team football but cup football because they deserve it and i think they are ready and are liverpools future in the writing ! what do u think eds ? hope we dont sell them to barca and real madrid in 5 or 6 years when they are world class footballers!

22 Jul 2012 00:53:57
i like all the positive posts tonight, my motm is shelvey i really think he wanted to take the game over, mostly in that deeper role before lucas came on. i think we need to sell aqualani and adam who just doesn't have an athletic bone in his body and tends to make passing errors that you'd expect from one of the kids. i feel bad saying that because he has a great attitude and wants to play for us unlike aqualani who i think doesn't want anything to do with hard work. i don't feel bad about saying that.

Joe Cole to go anywhere after tonight performance

Fingers crossed. I hate talking negatively about any of our players but he has never shown a thing in a red shirt and he continued last night.

cozinoz

Unfair to judge on the game last night but Cole is not going to start and do we really need to spend that much in wages for someone to sit on the bench. Thought Suso looked class and Stirling too.

Let him go and bring on Suso .ant

Tonight the boys didnt play tiki taka, rodgers mustve been cringing each time adam and shelvey hit it long. They seriously need to get that out of their system as those long balls were lucky if they had a 60% success rate an just gave away possesion which is completely anti-tiki taka. Adam needs to go. He's one of them old dogs who u can't teach anything new to... U slaters will be singing aquilani's name by october. The man is class. Adam just kept him out the game by punting it over his head all half(perhaps he knows aquilani's a threat to his place in the team) aquilani is twice the player adam will ever be. So much time on the ball. Similar to kaka.

Remove the final 'a' from your last sentence and I'll agree with you

Hate to say it but Aqualani has got quality but only when he wants to show it. But BR wants the whole thing not half and not sure Aqualani can work hard enough to win the ball back. BR needs Joe Allen to show the rest exactly how the system works. Hopefully if he comes some of the others will understand what is requuired!

Now then, been a while since I posted but thought I'd offer my opinion on a couple of things. Is it me,or maybe its the hot weather everyone's obviously not used to but i've noticed an awful lot of. moaning about a lot of s***e folks. From Red Rout who had taken quite a bit of time and effort to do his weekly transfer summary and not only people not grateful, but he got some crap for doing it,unreal. We've also got those who dint really rate Joe Allen and have judged and written him off after one game for team GB. I see Allen's pedagree has been questioned, but folks are over the moon to to give a guy who was loaned out to a mediocre Spanish team and has hardly been a hit himself but people are including myself want to see do well at our club and succeed. If we can root for and back Pacheo, surely we can have some faith in B.R and his obvious number one target in Allen, come on. FSG have been questioned but i'm right behind them, like it or not we've got responsible owners. Have I got to mention that old cheggy the regime before them,or can we not at least give them and what their trying to achive a bit more time. Personally I reckon we'll all be lauding them and B.R in a season or two. Finally I'd like to thank the Ed's who make this site worthwhile answering endless questions all day long.

"cant wait for first pre season game tonight also off to see new batman movie today. Carlsberg don't do Saturdays but if they did...... :)"

i posted that this morning and its the first time i have actually posted anything that hasn't had at least 1 "disagree"

maybe my faith in the liverpool fans is being restored :)

although ironically the likes of bosco and red turk will now press disagree on this post :P

I think if the likes of Bosco and RedTurk are disagreeing with you, it probably means you're speaking sense ;-)

IF and it is a huge if, this is our first team this year how would everyone feel we would do:

GK-Pepe Reina
LB-Jose Enrique
CB-Daniel Agger
CB-Martin Skrtl
RB-Glenn Johnson
DM-Lucas
CM-Steven Gerrard
CM-Joe Allen
LF-Clint Dempsey
CF-Fabio Borini
RF-Luis Suarez

Depends on the bench too.

Sj

If they remain fit and adapt to the style quickly, Top 4 is certainly a possibility.

Corvin

Personally, I'd be fine with this and think this team would do pretty well.

The only one I disagree with is Enrique. I'm sure you're right that he'll be in the side but he just doesn't look good enough for me. Gives the ball away too often. Just an opinion

Borini ahead of Andy Caroll? Absolute Bolox mate - he hasn't kicked a ball for us yet. And don't tell me he might not be playing for Liverpool cos half your team might not be yet.

Gazman

Gazman let's face it Andy Carroll only turned up in March last season. Were was he for the rest?

Mighty reds

I'd be happy for one, think Borini will play right and Suarez central though

Is it me or does suso look like much more composed and
Technically better than sterling....

Totally different players mate . But do think we need to involve them both more this season as we could lose them in the next couple of years . Any one think Adam Morgan could be the next Robbia Fowler / Owen they were both 17 when they broke into the first team . Come on boys . YNWA
