we will back any of our players till the end .luis is not a racist simple as that.as for torres he cant stop himself talking about liverpool cos he soon realised he should,nt of left and he did so for the money simple as that.a.johnson and luuk dejong are our jan buys probably a few young uns 2.have a very mery chrimbo fellow fans and hope the new year brings us our justice,s god bless

Adam Johnson signed a new contract at City so we wont be getting him anytime soon... All we need is a striker to get us Champions League football next season, Soldado, Higuain, Mario Gomes, Cavani or Torres back (highly unlikely)

Rocky

Torres is the only highly unlikely one?

Cavani would cost more than £40m, Higauin would go to a CL team, not a gamble. Gomez is not going to leave the 3rd best team in the world for a team who won't even be in the CL at this rate. Soldado has a high chance of CL next year with Valencia but obviously Lpool is a bigger club.

Only one who stands a chance and he isn't suited to the prem.

Hi eds and fans Merry christmas and happy new year to all!
question please, does the 8 match ban include any first team match or just prem matches?
That stupid, superficial liar Torres just looks worse every time he opens his mouth, it just shows how much he regrets going.
Gear up eds transfer window frenzy coming up,can we have a countdown clock please it makes it all more exciting, like in the corner somewhere and if a club sign someone then it comes up in a flash or something. What do you think?
hibsylfc {Ed002's Note - All first team matches. Most fans wanted Torres back a few days ago.}

hi i am a 15 year old and i am wondering how much tickets cost for my age at a home game i understand that different stands mean different prices but the pricing looks alott more difficult compared to hudderfield town matches (my home team)
thanks in advance ynwa

You need a season ticket to go

No you dont, get a fan card and pick up the phone

You need to sign up on the lfc.tv site for a membership which then gives you a bit of a priority or you can just buy them of the black market.

Everton have emerged as favourites to sign Cliftonville striker Rory Donnelly after making a formal offer for the Northern Ireland U21 international.

Taken from the BBC website

Does anyone know of any further interest from LFC?

Everton couldnt sign an autograph never mind a player

Just read that Torres has scored more goals for Liverpool in 2011 than Chelski !! How good is that ?
Tel 1949

Haha love it

cozinoz

Ha, ha.
And to think some folks want him back.
Really, he is past it now.
Was always "overshadowed" by David Villa when playing for Spain, remember the 2010 WC!.

As an away fan spending a fortune Ed I'm wondering if the kop is going to start surpporting the team again? or are they happy these days to tell there mates they heve stood on the KOP. Get up and sing! This is not a trend, this is a belief.

Just watched video of Gerrards goal against middlesborough a few years ago. What a screamer, if only we could get that Gerrard back on the pitch.

He will be on the bench on Boxing Day. After a few games we will have him back to his best (fingers crossed).

3 points off 4th place. What's the problem?

Spot on.

Problem is in players heads,They cannot win easy games ,also we can try and sign player who can score from 11 m.Serbian Red

Lack of goals... be annoying if we miss out on 4th due to goal difference

No problem and don't forget, it's Blackburn next and that has to be a game to get Big Andy up and running, isn't it?

Keith

Wow, some seriously half-empty glasses here. This isnt Coronation St - cheer the f*ck up - its Xmas and we're 3 pts off 4th place. Not a bad recovery year at all. It's all coming together for a big end-of-season run and we'll be in the cL. Happy Christmas all.

cozinoz

The problem (though its more frustration) lies in that our league position doesn't reflect how we have dominated most of our games. Just think of where we could be had we not drawn the very winnable games we have done so far

22 Dec 2011 21:56:50
Ed's, with all the talk of the new Ronaldo or the new messi.. My question to you guys is.. Who do you think is the new john Barnes? And why?

Raheem Sterling of course.

maka YNWA JFT96

I can't think of anyone else like JB,
a very complete player, he could
run down the wing, cut in and run
at defenders, he could cross, he could
score. He created many many goals for
Liverpool. I can't think of anyone close
to him. Maybe Maradona.

Raheen Sterling is John Barnes recreated, simular style of play and a wicked left peg

Why do some footballers constantly spit? Cole just spat about 10 times in 10 seconds. I used to play at a crap level but only spat water out at half time.
Just don't see the need?

"summut do innit..!"

Myk

Bit of a stupid thing to complain about... Why drink the water at half time if you were gonna just spit it back out then? Defeats the purpose really

No! If you swallow the water then you are bloated & can't run. Did you ever do sport?

22 Dec 2011 21:45:50
Chelski fans stealing our Torres song and changing one word. I just don't know how they come up with these genius lyrics. Such thought, creativity and style.

Suppose they have to find something to sing about. Let's be honest they can keep the song, it will not improve FT's game.
Read that AC Milan are tracking him.

22 Dec 2011 21:21:56
Anyone else getting tired of hearing Fernando (wish I never left Liverpool) Torres whinge? every interview he does ends up being about us " oh the fans don't know the club treated me badly" last time I checked it was him that left on the last day of the window "but I don't know why the fans hate me" rant over. For now anyway

Mat lfc

Fernando Torres? Who is he? Is he any good?

Plays alot like Sean Dundee apparently

I think Liverpool were right to get rid of him, for months he was complaining and seemed dis-interested in playing for us... He wanted out he got his wish, he was giving out about Hicks and Gillett i feel, he could've stayed but chose to leave... Liverpool got £50m for a player that has never got his form back since early 2010

Agreed. All downhill since the 2010 WC.

22 Dec 2011 21:07:57
question to eds or anyone who knows,is the 8 game ban on suarez only on prem games or all games? cheers in advance..JG.. {Ed001's Note - ALL first team matches, he could still play for the reserves.}

Thanks ed for clearing that up,so with the blessings of god if ban goes ahead he`ll be back for utd game to ram evra`s accusations where the sun doesn`t shine..JG..

Lol Carroll should be playing with the resrves to get confidence and match fit, just like they would of bk in the day.

BigD

When you're short of confidence, going to play with the players deemed not good enough for the first team doesnt boost your confidence.

He needs a few games of full 90 mins in the starting team, this will show some faith in him from the management.

ed do you think its possible ozil could move in january cheers! {Ed001's Note - it is possible, but unlikely due to his popularity from last season.}

Would be very surprised if he joined and also his fee would be upwards of £20m never mind his wage.

22 Dec 2011 20:46:29
not sure there was much difference in the Spearing challenge to that i've just seen Ramirez make on Bale, apart from Spearing got the ball

Thought the same myself and all we want from the refs is CONSISTENCY! It's not rocket science is it?

Keith

Spearing went straight through the player, bale went side on into the player

Were you watching the game? Spearing got all of the ball and the follow through got the player>>>

22 Dec 2011 16:15:25
Hi Ed, do you have any idea how David Moli is doing? saw him in a few times for the u18s in pre season and looked the real deal. I know he is only young but I was wondering if he is still doing well and if he could be one for the futre? {Ed001's Note - last I heard they were pleased with his progress and had high hopes for him.}

22 Dec 2011 20:39:28
Liverpool should move for Victor Moses for around 7million.

Why is it that if a fooking player plays well against us everyone sugests we buy them

big red john

Because that way they won't play well against us again....

We are not chelsea

Agree with you mate. Moses has looked sharp all season, a lone bright spot on Wigan, aside from McCarthy. He is obviously strong and fast, however, not sure how he'd fit in with Suarez or Carroll. Touch to call, and Wigan would ask for ridiculous fee being their top player.

We need goal scorers not near misses

The trend started with Michael Thomas (Am I showing my age?)

My mate, with age comes wisdom. Good on you!.

22 Dec 2011 20:38:57
A question to all the readers, i am a massive LFC fan but the way we have been playing do we deserve a top 4 finish. i know there has been a lot of improvement from last year but are we not dependent on one or two players again. Suarez is an absolutely brilliant player but how long before the workload becomes too much for him. dont we need better players than jonjo or even henderson and downing at times? how come we never find players like sturridge or walker(only examples) who are not only young but also talented and hardworking and more than capable or scoring and assisting consistently.

Top four maybe out of reach this season. A trophy would be a great achievement this season. Hendo and jonjo will come good it's all part of the kings master plan. I'm convinced in three years time we'll have the squad similar to man citys but without such a large outlay. That's my opinion xx

Thanks for the reply mate. i too trust the kings plan. but do u guys think when we r struggling to get past the likes of wigan we would be able to get past man city in the semis. i was a little hopefull when we played chelsea but watching how the players got frustrated with the lack of passing in the wigan game(2nd half mainly), just creates a doubt. i dont think top 4 would be possible but we should atleast get back to the team which would be a constant threat to the top 4. at the moment we are playing worse than aresenal who was written off beginning of the season.

Nothin like blind faith lol

I think we have made huge strides since last Christmas - the majority of moaners on here expect us to be top of the league after 12 months of change. We are 3 pts off the top 4; we rarely lose; and when playing ManU, ManC and Chelsea and Arsenal we were transparently the better team.
I'd suggest you haven't been watching the games if you're doubting the quality of Jonjo and Hendo. They have both been solid especially in the absence of the more experienced Stevie and Lucas.
Yes, we are deserving of top 4 finish because only ManC and Tottenham (and very occasionally ManU) have looked like better teams than us this season

cozinoz

What work load? he hardly scores, yes his creates and has individual moments of sheer class but so does gerrard.

Doesn't matter if we deserve it at the end of the day, the simple fact is if we dont get the points we wont make top 4.

Rocky

I think you are missing the point here cozinoz. we havent been able to brush away the lesser teams(no disrespect). against the top 4 we play differently, better and much more effective. but to be in the top 4 we need to win the more important games which end in draws. And if u remember the draws did cost us the title a few years back.

Regarding the workload. being our best player since he arrived there is constantly immense pressure and if you watch the games carefully the man runs his socks off and definitely creates a lot of chances. is he not our top scorer(if i am not mistaken). so yes a lot of workload which could be shared.

To be in the top 4 we needed to have won one more game than we have. Simple as that.
Hey, I've got an idea.....stop moaning about players and leave the negativity until we see how the season ends up. With the support of the Liverpool fans we have more chance of reaching the top 4 in May and some of you lot will look like a bunch of whinging brats.

22 Dec 2011 20:23:19
I think that the no.10 shirt is vacant...

No.7 Suarez...Supreme magician in flair, pace & guile to unlock defences...

No.8 Gerrard...World class experienced playmaker with vision and great passing....

No.9 Carroll...Strong, powerful target man with excellent aerial ability...

No.10 ???...Brilliant finisher, very quick, deadly & accurate...

Come on KK & Comolli...spend big on a world class finisher this january and we will have an attacking quartet amongst the best in the PL and Europe.

The only good player there is stevie

The return of Emile Heskey is imminent.

Eriksen.

22 Dec 2011 20:00:48
now should the suarez appeal go against us, and by the time he's back we are only playing for interest (i hope this won't be the case but you never know) then please kenny, a full team against united and a reserve squad against city

22 Dec 2011 19:21:26
Liverpool needs a striker to partner Suarez and a fast right winger Liverpool should try and get Hazard from Lille and Villa from Barca or Zaha from Palace

Hmmmm not much of a difference between Villa and Zaha is there?

Zaha? what ballcocks!

I agree , we have been quite weak on the right flank for far too long , so a good post .redforever

What about griezmann super fast and a joe cole type. a future Les Bleus international

Evening eds , everyone all though we are playing well i think we are missing a out right goal scorer, poacher.why if kenny wont buy one dont they pull adam morgan up from reserves .he got the quality just needs experience think of owen at 17,18 any thoughts cheers psv
{Ed002's Note - I would not be surprised to see Morgan have a chance from the bench at some point this season.}

I really think we should give some reserve players a shout in the FA cup

GK: Reina or doni or hansen
RB: Kelly/Flanagan
CBR: Coates/Sama
CBL: Cara/wisdom
LB: Wilson
CM: Spearing
CM: Shelvey
AM: Suso
RM: Silva
LM: Sterling
CF: Carroll

just realised that i named 5 players with S in midfield, they already have something in common future of liverpool

A man like no other will be arriving soon, dressed in red with a hint of white. He will come bearing gifts of influence, goals and defence splitting passes. Ho ho ho the return of the legend STEVIE STEVIE GERRARD

Game over

DJJAZZYJEFF

Hope he comes in time , and its happy days again , only he is not the stevie g of 5 years ago , he could play 2 games and pick up another injury , look at carra , another true Liverpool Legand , only when he come on late in the Villa game , he looked way too slow . redforever

Hey Ed!
2 questions for you:-
1. Am i right in saying Suarez's ban could be extended even further ? If so by about how long ?
2. Is John Terry going to be banned as well ?

Cheers mate.
0000. {Ed002's Note - (1) Conceptually yes, but it is very unlikely. (2) Terry has not been charged with anything by the FA but I suspect he will be later in 2012 and if found guilty I would expect a ban and a fine.}

22 Dec 2011 18:24:46
Ed is the Russian season over?
If it is would it be possible to make a loan move for Eto?
He has always talked fondly of LFC.

Pipe dream perhaps

Dont Buy The Sun {Ed002's Note - It is over and no. Would Liverpool lend Suarez to Anzhi over the summer?}

Isn't his weekly wage in excess of £300k p/w at Anzhi?
Somehow I get the feeling Eto'o is motivated by his salary cheque more than the prestige and history of the club (if he was prepared to move to Russia for such a grotesque amount), and in light of such point, would not move to a club who would/could not offer him HALF of such salary.

Mr Controversy

Hard to take.

I have to question the line adopted by the club.
The statement released by the club was poorly concieved and makes the issue more entrenched. We should not be seeking to inflame the situation. The wearing of Suarez t shirts before the Wigan game again whips up the circus and media storm furhter.

Is Suarez a racist? I dont think so but he is at least stupid and lacking sensitivity he therefore should be rightly disciplined.

Supporters should not bombard the FA with ill concieved emails, the ownership battle was a one off we cant become a group of moaners and whiners.

We demand the TRUTH regarding Hillsborough so people on here saying Suarez should not have admitted saying anything or we are "at war" or time to close ranks are wrong.

The management, yes Kenny must also control Suarez behavior. His cultural niaviety was bad enough but to gesture the FULHAM fans while under an FA charge was stupidity and shows zero respect for Kenny who is ultimately responsible for on field discipline.

The defence that the club is offering is poor, his comments were admitted to and were wrong! Evra Terry etc are all other issues that dont concern LFC or the fans base. We should concern ourselves with our own players conduct not whine about other teams.

The key to this is that Suarez learns his lesson. He is the most exciting player at our club in a decade and can be the best in the world but he must grow as a man.

I think the ban was harsh but we should accept it, our defence should have been the he was culturally niave and the club was disappointed in his actions and we should have had an internal review of conduct.

Refering to someones race in banter or to rile is WRONG wether it be by my enemy or my friend.
We as fans should support Suarez but also make it clear that we as a club have high principles.

My main worry is the advice the club is taking in its response to this issue, it seems ill advised inflamatory and half baked, my fears about our current ownership is slowly growing.

Dont Buy The Sun

Dont jump in to conclusions. Ed001 told that it was newspaper which believed Saurez used the 'N' word. We must stand by the club and look for the FA answers.
st
YNWA

TV is playing the incident over and over again. Forget about what the media and fans say or think. Look at the body language of Luis and Evra. Luis puts his hands out palms upwards in a concilliatry gesture. Evra pushes Luis away after talking to ref.

I hope then that Luis is found innocent on appeal but I still take issue with the clubs response. John Henry and Tom Werner are meant to be clever, serious astue individuals but I see little evidence of that in their handling of this situation.

We should be calm and doing are best to defuse and bring down the tempeture of this issue.

Brian Reade said after the H&G debacle he would be cautious of the new owners. I totally agree.

Are we in better shape in financial terms YES. Are we showing all out ambition to be the best in England and then dominate Europe NOT SO SURE.

I like Suarez he is a great player but that does not excuse him his many flaws.

Dont Buy The Sun

Kenny and Liverpool Football Club are in receipt of the facts. They are publicly supporting Suarez and putting themselves on the line with statements of support from players and wearing tshirts, etc. That should be good enough for fans of the football club who are not in receipt of the fact. If LFC have decided that the FA are incorrect with their judgement then I stand by Liverpool.
In the absence of evidence and facts being made public.....why would you not SUPPORT Liverpool, Keenny and Luis Suarez?

cozinoz

I do support them! My problem is the tactics I think their actions are esculating the problem not solving it.

Hi Eds. I'm sorry that you deemed my comments regarding Suarez' handball not suitable to print. Or did you regard my comments on English culture as racist?
They are not meant to be but that are an illustration of life in England these days.
Dutchmal {Ed002's Note - The comments on English culture were well wide of the mrk I am afraid.}

I disagree with you Ed 002 (as does most of the Netherlands!). Never mind.
However the comments about the handball are acceptable I think. Happy Christmas.

Would like to know what the Eds thought of this aswell?

Thanks
Robbo
(YNWA) {Ed002's Note - We are not going to go there Robbo. WE need to get back to the transfer rumours.}

Ok, I understand. I do see this as part of the problem though. As it is such a sensitive subject that people are almost afraid to talk about it in any way for fear of reprisals, legal or other. I think it is also indicative of where we are in society. Blame and apology culture. Another example is the fact Darren Bent had to come out and apologise for doing a little Christmas shopping a week before Christmas when he could not affect the game in any way. Whilst Steven Gerrard did and does watch many of the matches while he is injured he does not watch them all, certainly not in the stands, (publicly). Thankyou for the response to my last message. Keep up the good work Eds.

Thanks
Robbo
(YNWA)

Tranfers rumours?! there are none for this page just news of possible interest hear and there - nothing solid. I know the ships tight at anfield but its bloody frustrating not knowing whether a decent striker will be brought in. Decent being in my opinion of course which means a striker that is in good form and has scored 15 plus goals this season already in either the dutch, italian, germany or french top league and is under 27.

22 Dec 2011 16:49:19
Liverpool football club and supporters are getting a lot of stick in the press from Paul McGrath ,Olivier Bernard and Jason Roberts all three of whom should get a few simple facts right
1. LFC has always been leader in any campaign against racism which is recognised by FIFA
2.Even Patrice Evra stated that Suarez is not a racist
3.As a Country Uruguay cannot understand the fuss as they have been an multi cultural society for decades and had black players playing for their national team before we had anyone in the first division
4.Howard Gayle was one of the first black players in the english league
5.In all of this Evra is not being questioned about his role WHY
6.We are LFC and we will support our club come what may
So please every Liverpool fan do not take a backward step on this but give100% support for our club

They are all crawling out of the woodwork to have their say.{Ed002's Note - I am sorry to say but we must draw a line under much of this discussion. The fans had a chance to vent yesterday and did so. Many of the posts are now inflammatory and are stepping over the mark a little. This is really not the forum for getting too far in to such issues.

OZIL 23 years old. Clearly class. why not bust the bank to get him.

BENT. English, prem experience. used to score 20 plus a season, why not take a punt if the price is right.

HOILETT. NO, IMO not good enough.

A.JOHNSON. If possible id love to sign this guy. what a credit, although looks highly unlikely

S.Fletcher. Good striker, prem experience and would relish the opportunity, however i think i would prefer Bent.

I wish we would have signed Shane Long, think he is a really good player.

Other than the above i cant see any more players being linked that are possible, this talk of lucas ocampos, according to the eds its clear he is not willing, same for eriksen.

LTP The Red

Ozil: I'm game, but we have to consider whether he'd fit into our system!
Bent: "used to" is the key word here mate. He's not in the best of forms, and personally I lost all fate in him during his spell at Spurs.
Hoilett: on a free transfer might be worth a shot as a squad player.
Adam: I'd take him anytime, with downing on the other wing we will be very explosive. It's a question of patience though - his price will be affordabel only if he "goes Tevez" on the Manc.
Fletcher - actually, I believe he could be a better squad option than bent - but he's a player worth 4-5 mln, and we ain't getting him for that price.

Drigan

Agree with the latter of Fletcher, we would probably be given a quote of upwards 10m.
Would love to see A.Johnson.
Also i think ozil could fill the creative void we seem to lack.
good post drigan mate

Can you at least name the position that will most likely be filled in Jan. I know that a Striker is being sought after and that you can not mention names of target.

Coz when he is given the chance he doesn't play well enough to deserve a starting place,IMO he should be dropped from the 1st team for a couple of games and made to play with the reserves to give him a kick up the backside

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has claimed that fans of former club Liverpool "don't know the truth" behind his move to Stamford Bridge and has accused the Reds' owners, Fenway Sports Group, of breaking promises.

Torres left Anfield in a £50 million deal in January, a move that has made him an unpopular figure amongst the supporters that idolised him during his time at the Merseyside club.
The Spain international claims there was more to the transfer than meets the eye, however, saying Reds fans "don't know" what their club's owners are like.
"The Liverpool fans don't know the truth about why I signed for Chelsea," he told Spanish television station Canal+ Liga.
"The fans don't even know half of what happened. They don't know what the people in charge at Liverpool are like - they have a completely different perception of what they are like."
"They made promises that they didn't keep and I left because I realised I didn't have time to be part of a project that would take years."
"I have nothing against the Liverpool fans. I didn't want to leave Liverpool the way I did but the club lied. I was let down and I don't understand why the fans hate me."

It's because they aren't going to be throwing mooney around like Abromovich and Shiek Mansour.

Ed(s) and fellow Reds...........
Yesterday I vented my anger in an email to the FA and posted on here the process if others wanted to.
Today I had a reply which I thought I would share with you. It doesn't say anything we didn't already know but does state the written reasons for their decision will be provided in due course but. I hope they make them public

Ye,sham result and second half not the best half were likely to play this season. What really makes me pissed off is all these psychics who knew Adam yas gonna miss it and Suarez should of taken it. What a load of s**te,couldn't believe all tho agrees to some mon who posted that. Adam had scored 3 out of 3 pen attempts since he joined if you include the retaken one in pre season, stuck the one away convincingly eenough against West Brom. Not to mention his record for Blackpool last year. If Suarez would've missed it would've been his head wasn't right or some other bull. It's not like the second half has been the norm this season is it. Let's not go on like we need a new team ,Gerrard back soon,a couple of additions in Can,a little bit of luck and i've no doubt that the top 4 is more then in our capabilities. Not blind faith but how we've been playing for 90 % of the season so far. Get behind the team, this site truly is painful to read when we've not got a win.
Jonson.

I've discovered the solution to reading the painful posts - put on your favourite music at the same time. Got Alison Limerick "Where Love Lives", old house track, on at the minute. Not half as bad.

People saying Suarez will leave as a result of the 'witch hunt' are being a TAD over the top , and a little bit sensitive.

22 Dec 2011 15:16:23
I find it shameful that the clubs official site has a place for Transfer gossip. thought they would have more class. not 'the liverpool way'

If so many people are coming on sites like this for gossip why wouldnt they channel it through it gets the site more hits etc...

¦as in disgraceful, reprehensible, shocking, appalling, discreditable, dishonorable¦

I know, Paisley and Shanks never used the internet ;-)

Yeah but maybe Paisley did his scouting on Football Manager

Afternoon all,

Went to game last night and the main problem that we had was a severe lack of pace in the final third. I go to Wigan regularly as I organise school trips through their excellent junior ticket scheme. Their back four are not quick and have been exposed regularly this year. Therefore, to leave Bellamy on the bench was puzzling.

In the first half, Kuyt received the ball and there the fast break ended. Slow and ponderous before passing sideways. Similar with Maxi. Adam looked out on his a***. Enrique offered our attacking threat regularly taking on his full back.

Downing was frustrating as he wanted to come inside all the time. Also, in the first half he had to swap with Dirk as he wasn't tracking back.

Rumours linking us with Moses are worrying. The guy is not a great player. Quick and strong but is inconsistent and lazy. McCarthy is no better than what we currently have. Player who has impressed me this year is Diame. Have reservations whether he could step up but he is Wigans best player.

Wigan are slow starters in the game and we should have taken advantage of this. Two points dropped... But last season that was one point gained.

On plus side, found out having a little boy in April... Although not sure Maxi would have cared this morning as trying to wave at him in the car I almost drove in to him. Ha ha ha....

Merry Xmas all,

Dirks Engine Room

Bellamy has chronic knee problems and cannot play two games in a week.

congratulations on your news.

JRG

Moses is great for a team that play on the counter, his pace amd power allows him to carry the ball a long way.
He wouldn't fit into our set-up i don't think.

Hoilett would be a player i'd be looking at in January.

KT!

Think one of the eds had stated that spurs are due to open negotiations with hoiletts & blackburn's reps

I agree, I'd be more than happy with Hoilett and Adam Johnson. They have pace, bags of ability and pop up with goals. I think any striker would be happy to have them around them. Who knows? Andy Carroll may even start scoring...or running...or smiling...anyway yes SIGN THEM UP!

Looks like Hoillet is in talks with Spurs

hey eds this isnt liverpool related and just a generall question. Are there any other rumour websites as reliable as this one regarding Liverpool rumours i'm just curious. Love the site by the way and keep up the good work.

A little perspective.

This year began like every other year for Liverpool fans: lofty expectations. I think each and every one of us expects the title every year, even if it is not realistic.

If you look at our position right now, sitting 6th, it is not at all unexpected. I think the key is that we are really only a win out of the top 4 which is impressive if you consider that we have a new coach, almost an entire new starting 11 and have been missing our captain.

Sure, not everyone is firing on all cylinders all the time, and for sure Carroll hasn't been the saviour we hoped he'd be. However, in the end, if we can turn it up a notch after xmas, we have a deep enough squad to pull out a top 4.

I think we have to purchase in January, but not for primary need, but due to the injury to Lucas and the banning of Suarez (not to mention the question mark of Gerrard). I think we need a quick forward (no need to give another wish list) and a mobile midfielder. No need for a holding midfield as Henderson and Adam can track back quickly (as evidenced by our string of shutouts....it can't be all due to back 4....or Reina).

There is no point comparing our record this year to last. The league is far more competitive this year, and more importantly, we are controlling almost every game, if not taking our chances. Last year we were outplayed by Wigan, Wolves, Blackpool and others. We've been dominating the lesser teams this year, but just not converting.

Looking forward to us destroying Blackburn on boxing day.

Coop

Well said mate.

hi eds do you think there is a possibility suarez will reconsider staying at the club after being constantly victimized. it is unlikely that he will want to stay in this country if he continues to get abuse from fans every week.
thanks
Thekop1 {Ed002's Note - I really don't know. To be fair the bird at Fulham was crass on his part and will see another couple of game ban and leave him open to taunts. But for me he should ride it out and stick with the club.}

22 Dec 2011 13:57:47
HEY ed, am i right in saying if liverpool appeal to the suarez ban then he could be elegible for both carling cup games? and the whole of january {Ed002's Note - If he appeals he remains available until the appeal is heard.}

22 Dec 2011 13:32:43
Ok altho I think we need two/three signings in january to freshen it up a bit I still think lets not forget the young lads in the squad that could come in who would be like a new signing. After all when Kenny came back to the club I thought some more of the academy were meant to be getting a chance?! Players who I think are ready for a chance, or another go, are: Jon Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Andre Wisdom, Conor Coady (altho he's had a bit of an injury), Suso, Jonjo Shelvey and most certainly Raheem Sterling! They are all now in the 17-20 bracket and are worth giving a try at some point soon. Merrry Christmas : )

22 Dec 2011 13:23:55
Let's get one thing straight. A pretty miserable second half showing, too many players on the night didn't perform like they can and again we missed an unacceptable amount of chances.

Therefore the result mirrored what we put into it. We have to accept that players will have bad phrases in games, or bad games or a run of bad games whereby performance is down and/or confidence takes a hit.

It shouldn't be surprise to anyone on here that we currently do not possess the art of winning when playing badly as a unit or when having 4 or 5 players off form and playing badly. This is the stuff of Champions. Whether we like it or not United have been absolutely class in this department.

Add into the ingredients the now all too familiar missed, gilt edged chances and sooner or later you are going to get what you deserve, which in our case is dropped points. I have to say I cannot remember having a run for so long whereby we create so many chances and fail with so many. It will not be long before it starts taking effect on things like morale and results if it hasn't done already.

Yes last night was a disappointing result and a below par performance to boot (not disgraceful, not the worst I've ever seen either you knee jerk's) but we still had the quality of chances to have won that match. If we weren't going through a rich vein of excellent defending we would be losing these games and not drawing.

I watched with interest in the second half when we started to fizzle out of ideas and became a little too rushed and frantic to get a goal. I just don't think Suarez is the type of striker who can play up top on his own. He is our version of David Silva, the only issue is he plays 20 yards further upfront than Silva. Yet when we started to struggle and Suarez was getting isolated, he started dropping back into the hole and picking the ball up. The problem was he was 50 yards from goal, surrounded by four defenders and his only option was to go backwards, literary. He was left with too much to do and the threat was snuffed out time and time again.

Calls for an out and out striker may or may not be needed. Get Gerrard back in the hole and Suarez can be allowed to push further up top. Problem we have is injury and suspensions.

Adam, Downing, Maxi, Johnson and Kuyt didn't have their best nights for different reasons. Adam and Johnson in particular are capable of producing real school boy errors at times, which they both proved again last night. Downing was bitterly disappointing considering his recent improvement in form and was toothless and gave us nothing going forward, poor crossing and never got past Figuroa once last night. I expected Kuyt and Maxi to give Suarez more support but both were listless.

Henderson I thought was very good in the middle worked harder than Adam and used the ball well when all around him second half were giving it away for fun. Srktel and Agger were excellent and for me Srktel is back on song. Enrique got past more players in one run than Downing did the entire night and that was purely down to absolutely no movement off the ball from the likes of Adam, Maxi, Kuyt and dare I say it Suarez in the second half.

We, as fans, are going to have to accept these performances from time to time will raise their heads. Wigan are a poor side, playing poorly yet by the end of the game were comfortably holding us.

We still have much to improve upon. That said, 4th place is by no means out of the equation. The amount of dropped points though is making it difficult for us to challenge for 3rd and thereby reducing our chances of a champions league spot.

When you drop so many points, especially when you know you should take all on offer, it puts even more pressure on the team. This is felt all around and the one thing that takes pressure off is taking the first good chance that comes around in a game. Guess what happens when you spurn it? Last night's second half performance happens.

I found when playing football that frustration is the single, biggest enemy you have that affects your form, even bigger than confidence. We're frustrated, imagine what the players are going through trying to rectify it?

Bob the Red

Nice post Bob.

I have said for sometime that Suarez cannot play up front on his own. The stats show that most of his goals come when he has Carroll or another up front with him. I honestly thought last night Suarez looked knackered and he looks like he could do with a rest (but not an imposed one). In the second half he tried so many flicks and deft touches which didn't come off, just lost us possession - he reminded me in many ways of Luis Garcia - very frustrating.

I think Adam has missed Lucas being beside him - his last two performances have been really below par for him and I think it is due to the extra defensive work he has to do when he's with Henderson. When he played with Lucas he could go forward and create chances but he seems to be playing deeper and making less forward passes. Hopefully the return of Spearing or a new DM in January will take some of the defensive responsibility of Adam.

All that aside, it is still a game we could and should have won comfortably if we had taken our chances.

JRG

Great post Bob.

Dara D

I said it a month ago, us missing these chances going to cost us .. It has become a habit, its not bad luck any more, its a problem need fixing, taking Henderson and Kuyt shots yesterday, they had the whole goal at their mercy, but they aimed at the Keeper and made it easy for him to stick his hands out and do the save. Sad to say it but I think they need to go back to basics and do target practice.
I was surprised not see Carroll at the starting line up, we need to start preparing for life without Suarez and Wigan I would 've thought to be the perfect team to play Carroll against, he would've caused them problems.

Roy

I agree, and also agree with Roy that lastnight would have been a good game for Carroll. Downing is playing really badly and we need a winger who can take players on and cross with consistenc. Kuyt and Maxi were poor. I didnt think Adam was too bad though. Ideally I would like a winger and a striker in January!

"Look away now if you care about how football portrays itself because a great institution is falling on its irresponsible sword. There is no opprobrium too great to be levelled at Liverpool because at the heart of this sorry episode - bad enough to begin with, worsening by the day because of the club's not-sorry sorry response to a shame of their own escalation - is their absolute refusal to remember who they are.

Remove the tribalism for a moment and all football fans should be able to agree that Liverpool are a great institution within the game. Now put those blinkers back on because it's all that Liverpool - a great institution turned blind by their own one-eyed irresponsibility - deserve. If they don't want to see the wider responsibilities a great institution is beholden to uphold then nobody else ought to adjudge them from a neutral perspective. If they want to see everyone out to get them then let them see it.

There's a 'hear no evil, see no evil' line in here somewhere because the first pitiful retort to the playing staff's misguided show of support for Luis Suarez before the game at Wigan is the reminder that, as per the club's own statement, not one of them heard the exchange between Suarez and Patrice Evra. No matter. He's one of them and the other isn't. Case closed.

Truly, did nobody at the club stop to consider what sort of message their Suarez shirts sent out? Can it really be true that nobody at Liverpool Football Club remembered that their name lists Football as well as Club? Was it really so hard to spot the benefits which would have been accrued for all concerned - including the club, including Suarez himself, including the game - if the entire playing staff had lined up in anti-racism shirts?

Apparently not. And here's the message that Liverpool, a great institution turned in on itself without a single dissenting thought for a wider perspective, spelt out last night: English football has turned absolutely tribal."

This lovely piece was included when our football club was mentioned in the "losers" section of football website football365.

The bias against Liverpool is summed up perfectly in these few paragraphs. Are we expected to just lay down and take what we believe is an unjust decision just because of our history? The article mentions we have forgotten who we are, I believe the opposite has been shown.

We have demonstrated our fighting spirit, we have demonstrated that the manangement, players and fans are united as one. We have demonstrated that we are LFC, the greatest club in England and we will not be pushed around.

Now is the time for every true fan to pull together, noatyer the reults, and show the world that we will do things our way, the Liverpool way.

We are LFC, and we are at war!

Peeps

Absolute nonsense. For once, I agree with F365. Liverpool missed a trick last night. And unfortunately, the t-shirts episode has left us looking sour.

Please stop this unswerving and misguided loyalty.

The original poster is so true.

Torres say's
The fans don't even know half of what happened. They don't know what the people in charge at Liverpool are like - they have a completely different perception of what they are like.
"They made promises that they didn't keep and I left because I realised I didn't have time to be part of a project that would take year.

Red-Fan say's
so what u win under chelsea ? how many goal do u score ? Liverpool project will take years and u can't wait. ok can't u wait until summer. 3 days to close the window and u want to go ?
and they brake promises ? what is that whice player to by who to sale and who will be the boss ? but who the hell u are to tell liverpool woner and official about buying player and taking coach ? u just a striker who injured most of the season and Liverpool still pay you salary. and give you 1st team football. now u warming bench that what u deserve.

22 Dec 2011 13:06:45
Ed why doesn't Torres just come out and say what he was lied to about by the owners or would he have signed something when he left Liverpool that is stopping him? Is it all over money or what? {Ed001's Note - if he came out and told the truth he would get no sympathy from anyone.}

Nice one ED and very true I expect!

When Cantona karate kicked the guy in the crowd and Ferdinand 'missed' the drugs test, everyone at Utd stuck together - in fact it seemed to make them stronger and more determined.

What we all need to do now is stick together through this sorry event, support each other and we will come out of it the stronger.

I hope Luis doesn't get disillusioned by this and wants to leave. He needs to be strong , bide his time and then when the dust settles really get his head down and prove everyone wrong – particularly everyone at Man U.

When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high.

FT

To be honest after hearing even the Wigan fans last night if i was Suarez i would leave as soon as i could, probably off to sunny Spain. I really hope the lad stays but i just wouldn't blame him if he didn't.

The whole thing reminds me a bit of last year when Fergie called Torres a diver and Roy kept his mouth shut. But now with Kenny in charge we have a fantastic manager with a strong personality backing our number 7 till the end. Looking forward to the King's press conference.

always a red

The taunts are part and parcel of a pro footballers life. Look at the grief fat Frank gets re his kids and Terry about his low life family, and cashly Cole. After a while it will die down as will this episode, we just have to ride it out. All the best.

22 Dec 2011 12:57:22
At game last night and I think our main problem was crossing or to be precise lack of. It was a game complete of running down the wings having no one in the box and cutting inside and looking for a pass.

Suarez like to operate around the box and as such there was never a man inside. When Carroll came on I thought we seemed for happy to stick the ball in the box -McMenemy

22 Dec 2011 12:55:55
So were Liverpool always looking to make more signings in January or not? Or has it been influenced by certain events?

Not LFC related, but I heard that Blackburn manager Steve Kean will be sacked, he will be offered a 2 million chicken nuggets payoff, and a lifetime supply of chicken wings courtesy of Venky's, as they are currently have a cashflow problem.

I would take that i love chicken wings

How many people think we are still competing for the top 4. with suarez out for 8 games, maybe more on appeal, where are the goals coming from. we'll be lucky to get top 6... kev..

I think Lucas being out dents our chances of top 4 more than the ban.
I am hoping we bring in a striker and maybe a defensive midfielder on a 6 month loan.
Top 4 is still very realistic, we just need to keep playing great football. The goals will come.

MIKEY

That's the spirit Kev - keep clucking so all the fans from other sites can see what a bunch of fragile, defeatist, no hopers we are... Glad I'm not in the trenches with you!

This goalpoacher/goalscorer everybody is screaming for, who realistically could we go for because I can't think of one decent goalscorer who is available/would (with the exception of Thiery Henry) be available in Jan. We are going to have to go with what we have, accept it.

Waro

What??

I think Ba would be a good signing

I dnt no how so many have disagreed with on on this demba ba, i thought he was class at west ham and think the folks who disagreed havent seen him play.he had a bad time beginning of season with his religion but has provedtime and time agen at the toon, tht 1 he scores goals 2 is quick and 3 is good with the ball.ad take him he would score more than kuyt maxi and carroll put together

T-shirts last night were farcial. Is everyone forgetting that LS admitted he made this remarks and has pleaded 'cultural differences'...ignorance is not a excuse and given the reaction to Seb B's comments in the English press he must have been living in a bunker to not realise that it is not acceptable. Why doesn't he just man up, admit the error, explain it was said in the heat of battle, take the ban and put it behind him. Kenny saying he wouldnt talk about it and then drip feeding stuff to the media is ridicolous.

So it's wrong to support a player who has been wrongly accused of being rascist?

Adam

I suspect your are a manc......

Defending an England player for ABH is farcial.....

Calling someone a South American piece of Sh*t (this is what Evra is meant to have said to Suarez) is also not right but guess what the mancs are supporting thier player!

Double standards!

Is that a racist comment?

GGK

Look dude you left no name so il call you ridicolous,
we are liverpool we are one we stand together as one coming on here spouting crap will only make us pull together.

after watching the game yesterday, we need 2 more world class strikers depending on the Suarez problem (i am supporting Suarez all the way and i believe he has done nothing wrong, also the fa and evra are cheats). we got to sell kuyt, maxi, Aurelio and Carroll as they are useless and wont score goals. any news on possible strikers in January?.

Agree mate. I have always loved kuyt but he has got to move on now.Everything has already been said about carroll ok he only played for about 5 minutes but he will never fit into are play. For kuyt's replacement I think luuk de jong would be great and I think we also need another striker that is a reliable and consistent scorer. It won't happen though.

Morning Ed002 I don't have any opinions to give or questions to ask this morning (there'll be plenty of time for that in January!) I just want to wish yourself, the other Ed's and my fellow posters a very merry Christmas and hopefully a happy and prosperous new year

Chris in Tamworth {Ed001's Note - cheers Chris, I will pass your message on to her.}

Same to you Chris in Tamworth, have a good one. Although I'm not sure Ed002 will appreciate your wishes, my guess is she's a bit of a scrooge..

All the best

22 Dec 2011 12:03:05
I honestly believe we should give young Raheem Stirling a chance on the right wing and keep downing to the left. This boy may be young but if you are good enough play - can't be any worse than Kuyt he's not a winger let's be honest about this. Bellamy should be pushed up top with Suarez as there is never no one in the box to make a darting "rushie esq" run - Bellamy can do this.
Center Mid is definately an issue with Lucas & Stevie missing but with Stevie back soon I would play him alongside either Charlie or Hendo. Charlie did look slow yesterday but I think he could do with a rest as he is playing every game and trying to give his all. I believe he is in the top 5 of km covered in the premiership this season. Hendo just runs and runs after distributes the ball well - he's still young and the england under 21 captain so he will get better and better with time.
Downing we think may not be playing well but if you watch the games close he often looks up to cross and only sees perhaps one or two in the box (ie suarex and maxi) who are not going to outjump some of the giants of the premier league. He is a class act and needs targets for his crosses.
Kenny keeps saying we are a work in progress which we are - I think we should dip into the transfer market and buy a creative midfielder such as Hazard but do we have the money i'm not sure.
As for Carroll - I do like him but I watched him warm up before the Wigan game and his touch has totally deserted him. His confidence is rock bottom and it's a shame for all.

I agree with the Raheem Sterling shout but I'd play Downing on the right and Sterling on the left. Downing was great on the right hand side in his last season at villa and I think Sterling would add a freshness and pace to the team, would be like a new signing.

22 Dec 2011 11:45:34
Are Liverpool in for Huntelaar. This could be a good signing as Suarez and Huntelaar played together at Ajax.
Strootman would also fit in well or Eriksen.
At the moment LFC will find it hard to attract the bigger stars, however players like the ones mentioned above could come to Liverpool because they might not get playing time at other clubs that are having better current success.
Choosing Liverpool would be a good choice for such players because Liverpool have a great tradition, great supporters and are never too far away from success.

22 Dec 2011 11:29:40
Ed, just 2 questions,
1) What is the accutual likely hood of Suarez
Leaving to Real Madrid?

2) Do you know who is the most likely player to sign in January?

Thanks!
Merry Christmas! YNWA {Ed002's Note - (1) It is impossible to say at the moment. (2) We really don't know.}

Ed what is the likelihood of Benzema or Higuain going in the other direction if Suarez did leave? Would Liverpool fans be happy with Benzema or Higuain?

Sydney! {Ed001's Note - Higuain could be possible, they have already offered him to Chelsea, though I very much doubt he would want to join a team that doesn't have Champions League football. I would take him over Suarez myself.}

Both would be a dream thought wouldn't it? I think Real Madrid can pretty much force a player to do what they want, so I wouldn't completely rule out a move for Higuain. He is a better finisher than Suarez, but I do not think you will get the energy that you get with Suarez. If RM offered £35m or so for Suarez and he forced a move out of the club and Higuain refused to go the other way, who would you use the £35m to bring in? Or would you sign a couple players?

Disney! {Ed001's Note - I would look for a couple myself, right winger for one, that is the weakest area of the pitch for me.}

22 Dec 2011 11:18:01
some players i want to see in January. Sheamus Coleman. Clint Dempsey. Scott Sinclear. realistic, affordable and can hit the ground running. people can call for the FIFA12 list all they like but people need to be realistic. the likes of Cavani and co, will not come cheap, will need to bed into any side and usually those type of players dont move in January. Thoughts, KOS

Coleman can't even start for Everton

So just like saurez didn't hit the ground running , and just like downing has hit the floor running.

People need to remember we want champs league football , so we need players capable of playing in it.

Ahhhh!! Another frustrating draw in which we dominated and should've been out of sight after 30 minutes...but this has been the story so far and it's repeating itself like a bad re-run on late television. Can I ask, why bring Carroll on for the last 5 minutes? We've become like Chelsea and Torres...we couldn't score yet Carroll was there waiting to come on and pose and arial threat that we didn't have...Sorry, everyone, I'm just frustrated because these little dropped points might cost us dear come the end of season....
And please KK, give Carroll a chance, he will score!!

No he wont score! he doesnt look likely to score at any time when he is on the pitch

Steve

Poor Dalglish,
If he play Carroll half the supporters on this site slag him for bringing on a donkey and saying no wonder we don't score. If he brings him on the field, the other half complain why does he bring him on for only 5 minutes no wonder we don't score. Hope Dalglish does not read this site.

EDS is suarez really dissilutioned or is it rubbish? i wouldnt blame him this is a total witch hunt!

Great site {Ed001's Note - he is upset right now, but right now the club expect him to stay, despite Madrid's interest.}

It is all a big conspiracy, everyone is anti-Liverpool.

If Suarez played for United and Evra was a Liverpool player I strongly believe this would all have been swept under the carpet.

I'm so annoyed right now.

Good morning all.

A bad day at the office, I think is a fair summation of last nights game. They are not all bad players, just had a bad game. As bad as we played though, I think we still had more than enough chances to win the game, again. Although it wasn't Hendersons best game for us, with every match he is going searching for the ball more and more, and Enrique is Superb. Everyone else lost their composure at the vital moments.
I really would like to see Carroll given a run in the team now, and if say after 6 games he still isn't doing it then we can start moaning, because Kuyt is being given chance after chance and not doing it. His running is aimless and left Johnson exposed every time Wigan got the ball. He runs all day but to no effect. I would like to see Carroll as the lone striker with Suarez given a free role.
Thought Moses kept our defence on the back foot all game

Tommy Walsh

I would like to see us play a sort of 4-3-3 with Carroll up top and Bellemy and Suarez either side just behind

Ed002,
Forgive me asking on the John Terry situation but the Police case was as a result of an anonymous complaint right.
I presume Mr/s Public Spirited would have had to give a witness statement. So, if it goes to court and JT pleads not guilty, that person would have to appear and give evidence ?
Also, if it was a member of the crowd, did JT yell this supposed racial insult cos it was a good 10 yards away from the stands. Or is the anonymous complainant another player maybe..?
The Real KB {Ed002's Note - It was a member of the public and Terry was yelling. The case when heard will be dealt with as a simple public order matter and will be dealt with via a magistrates court unless he opts for trial by jury, which I suspect would be ill-advised.}

If JT is found not guilty, say because the
the person who made the complaint turns out not to be a credible witness, could the
FA still charge Terry, after having being found not guilty? I'm no expert in English law but you cannot be tried twice for the same offence?

I would assume that he would be charged with bringing the game into disrepute.

I think our game last night summed up our season so far. We play some good possession football, tight at the back, pretty decent to watch, but we can't put it in the net! We started well, then, and this is no disrespect to wigan, what always happens against lesser sides if you're not careful, is you come down to their level. It ended up being similar to an FA Cup match. I like our defence, Agger having a decent run, and enrique must be the bargain of the season, still not 100% on johnsons defending, but he's getting better. I just think we struggle in the final third. Downing could be a little more inciscive, going for goal, seeing that he has no one to cross to, and I think it's in the games like last night that we are missing gerrards 'something different'. whats good is we ar'nt relying on him but we do miss him. I thought last night that we had a massive incentive to win by knowing that had other results gone our way we could have been level on points with chelsea. Just didnt happen. We are going the right way, still think we are a couple of players short, mainly support for suarez, but its so much better than last season, hope it gets better

DAR

I think the pitch didn't help, it really cut up towards the end of the first half and the second half the pitch was poor.

No excuses because we should have put the game to bed early like the villa game.

As the game went on the quality of the play went down.

Still not a terrible performance, we just miss a leader on the pitch who is going to drag us through when we are searching for a goal........Stevie will be back soon and even a half fit SG is a fantastic footballer and leader.

Two questions here

1) With Jay Spearing eligible to play on Monday, will he stroll back into the team?

2) Why aren't we starting Martin Kelly?

I don't have an opinion on the first question but a strong one for the second. Johnson has been very inconsistent this season. One match he can be top class, the other a disaster. Last night against Wigan, Chelsea in the league, Swansea, he has produced poor performances. On the other hand, we all rate Kelly very highly and we've never seen him produce a below par performance have we?

Keith YNWA

Leave the selection to the true pros, mate.

BooDaBooze

Spearing isn't good enough to stroll back into the team IMO. He got into the team at Fulham for two reason; Lucas injury and because he deserved the start.

He got suspended in that game so he will have to work hard again. Henderson and Adam will start again in a 442 formation at home to Blackburn where I expect Bellamy and Carroll to come in for Maxi and Kuyt.

22 Dec 2011 10:24:26
it was another typical performance from liverpool last night. We dominated them during the opening 20-25 minutes. We cut through them as if they were butter but if u dont score from that kind of domination then the opposition will grow in confidence as did wigan when they started playing very well on the counter attacks. Their keeper was on top form saving so many and the penalty too which i thought was well struck from adam. I thought kenny should have brought carrol earlier. Another frustrating thing was when downing gets a chance to cross he dosent he starts cutting inside or tries running past the defender and then loses the ball, he should cross it when he gets the chance.
the game was good, it was fast and open and wigan deserved their point in the end. We r playing very good football but we just dont have that luck which all the good teams have. i think there's a piece missing in the puzzle hope kenny solves it.

amar

A good sensible and simple post - totally agree with Amar but will also add, Johnson shouldn't be starting. His performance last night was dire

Is it just me or are the press going more easy on terry then suarez.With Terry it was quite clear to see what was said yet its ok for avb to back terry but when kenny done it for suarez wearing the t-shirt Oliver Bernard comes on skysports and says he was WRONG. {Ed002's Note - Terry has not be found guilty of anything yet. No doubt later in 2012 when the FA eventually deal with him the press will mention it.}

22 Dec 2011 10:16:46
If Suarez was to look for a transfer, lets say to Utd for example, I'm pretty sure his appeal would be successful. He chose the wrong club to join - always followed by controversy where ever they go.

Ryan

Is this the same United that got bombarded with fines, bans and warnings by the FA last season? The same FA that forced Lee Mason to word his statement the way they wanted it worded, so that they could give Rooney a two-game ban for swearing? Something that has never been punishable by ban before Rooney done it?

Disney!

Controversy follows him because he is a person - if you bite a player on the neck, handball on the line in the world cup and then laugh about it, give opposition fans the finger and roll about when you fouled or dive then suprise suprise your gonna become a marked man. ls is a great player but his behaviour and temprement are questionable and its clear daglish isnt managing him strongly enough after the incident at fulham

Everyone can say what they like about the biting incident - he started it and the is no excuse for his action. While all the fans in England are up in arms about it the fans in the Netherlands thought that it was hilarious but that he was given the correct punishment.
What gets my goat is the handball incident. Has it never happened in England? Of course it has on many occasions. It's probably already happened this season. As far Suarez laughing when the penalty was missed - so were all his team-mates and coaches and the entire population of Uruguay. Liverpool have won twelve (I think it's twelve) penalty shoot-outs through opposing players missing penalties. I think that if anyone took the trouble to look at the results of these shoot-outs that the Liverpool players and the coaches and every Liverpool fan was also laughing. This, of course, applies to EVERY team that has won a penalty shoot-out. If you look again at the handball you will see that there is another player in front of Suarez who attempted to stop the ball with his hand but missed. The extremely fast reaction of Suarez shows how quick that he is. As I have said before Suarez is not a diver he goes down too easily when fouled by a player. A quick look at the rules of professional Football would show that the player committing the foul is the cheat and not the player he fouls.

P.S. To the Eds. A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Thanks and thanks for a lot of interesting points throughout the year.

Yes we can't get a 30 mil striker like the eds say because they won't want to come to us at this point of time. But I think our scouting network should be good enough to find a 20 mil attacker/winger like hulk(some1 like him who would want to come to us). Because with the team we have now we surely won't do better than 5th that to if van persie gets injured for arsenal.

From our best starting 11 with everyone fit only Lucas,Suarez, reina, gerrard and maybe agger can get in the teams who are above us. Five players from our team good enough to play for the teams who we r competing against is NOT good enough.

Now regarding Kenny's policy of buying British players. People who r going about blaming him for not buying mata and instead buying downing....please watch some soccer.
Who would mata want to go? To a team who finished 6th not in Europe or to a team who came 3rd and r in champs league.
I m not disappointed he didnt buy mata but I'm disappointed why he bought Adam and downing. Yes mata and eriksen etc were not possible but there r many players out there better than them who want to play for lfc cost the same as them but not in the epl.

Regarding Andy carrol. Some people r angry why we bought him for 35mil when he nowhere wasn't worth that much and then the so called optimists say that Chelsea paid
the money and we got ac+15 mil for Torres. 1 person last
week really made a good point that it doesn't mean that if u have money u have to spend it. There is a thing called a bank. We knew ac was injured and he wouldn't come anywhere near match fitness before April. So we paid 35mil so that he plays for us April instead we could have easily have got him for 15 mil in this summer.

And finally to those people who think we fans should be patient. It's not easy when u see ur team paying 100mil excluding the outgoings and still not being able to win against relegation fighting teams week in week out. It's not easy and we have to admit benetiz would have done work with that money like he did with Lucas, Torres, mascherano, reina, Alonso. And if u say most of them were no brainers I can bet if kk was in rafas place he would have gone for Adam instead of Alonso because English players are Able to adapt easily.

Just wanna say I'm proud of our fans who were at the game yesterday the suport they gave suarez was amazing ,i just think people moaning need to chill out a bit , the footie we have been playing has been exciting , attacking flowing football and we have made so much progress this season , and look at how the club has come togeva as a unit,I think the only mistake was andy caroll but Its not the end of the world, if we dnt get top 4 yes I will be a bit dissapointed, but I we still feel we are heading in the right direction , ynwa

Really hating how the media are playing around with the Suarez verdict. I live in Norway and the channel that has the PL tv2 were going over last nights games. The line for the Wigan-Liverpool game: Ali Al Habsi closes the goal for racist convicted Suarez. Is it like this all over the world now? Just curious.

Liverpool need to sort out the reasons why they cant win against teams like wigan etc. Otherwise quality players will never sign as they wont view the club as somewhere they can win silverware. Liverpool based on present form will be lucky to have european football next season. Worrying times ahead.

It would be the complete lack of class players to break down opposition defences. We simply dont have good enough players. We need better quality than Charlie Adam , Stuart Downing , Andy Carroll, Dirk Kuyt. They simply are not performing to the standards required to compete for top 4. IMO I should add.

Steve

Andy carroll is not the problem he needs game time. charlie adam hasnt put in a decent cross/free kick/penalty/corner since we signed him. i dont know whats happened to downing his touch has deserted him he looks slower and more out of control. and kuyt is struggling to do what he used to, too much work for one his age

22 Dec 2011 10:00:57
Morning All, see the usual Liverpool / Dalglish bashers are back this morning, do feel free to leave at any time!! Ok I was a little upset last night with a draw but look at the game, missed penalty, Johnson missed a sitter and kuyt missed a chance the only thing we are missing is a finisher and Wigan have always been our bogey side.
Eds if I am wrong please correct me but we have more points than this time last year 8/9, were in a higher league position, already more away wins than the entire of last season and creating alot of chances, so thats progress as far as I am concerned, Rome was'nt built in a day get behind the team and manager and see the bonuses out of draws, wins and loses, we are a FAR BETTER team and squad than this time last year, keep the faith LFC Fans

If we can buy a finisher in January that would be great

Jim

We may be a far better team than last year, but the fact remains it still isnt good enough for top 4. As far as buying a finisher in january, we need far more than one player to continue to pushy up the table. The quicker kenny sees this the better for LFC.

Steve

As a fan for many years i would like to say that our aim has never to be a top 4 side - our aim has always been to be no 1.

i've a question for the eds and anyone else out there, except for torres and suarez why is it whenever we spend big in the transfer market they always turn out to be a flop, you can go back as far as collymore £8.5m british transfer record and what a waste of space he turned out to be and more recently we've had robbie keane £20m,downing £18-20m,henderson £16-20m,carroll £35m,cisse £14m there's probably more,i know all teams make mistakes regarding transfers but ours always seem to be our big money purchases,do we blame the scouts or the managers, whoever it is we need to rectify this ASAP as i believe january's transfer window is a massive one for us with suarez ban looming, lucas out for the season and gerrards ongoing fitness problems that's 3 massive players to replace/get cover for, just a potential deal i'd like to see happen and before someone says it NO it's not MOTD fever but i'd like to see us offer carroll and maybe £5-10m for tiote and ba from newcastle, all thoughts welcome.
paul d

Pretty strange fact, innit?

BooDaBooze

If im not mistaken, doesnt Demba Ba have a degnerative knee problem? he wouldnt pass the medical here.

Steve

I suggested Demba Ba as a potential transfer target whilst he was still at West Ham. Remember being shot down by everyone.
Degenerative knee condition or not should offer him a high salary and a rolling short-term (2yr) contract. Hes a natural finisher, two-footed, strong physique, quick and scores with head or foot. Above all else - showed at WestHam that he can poach goals in around the 6yd box.

I think that we all accept that appeal or no appeal Suarez is going to be suspended for 8+ matches. The F.A will not back down on this. I am extremely disappointed with the outcome and the excessive punishment but what disappoints me most of all is the fact that the instigator is getting off scott-free (readers from North of the Border no offence meant!). Not only did evra use the first racist slur but he had called for a yellow card for Downing and told the referee that hes was only being booked because he was black. This implies that the referee was also racist. These facts have been conveniently forgotten (or ignored) by the F.A., the Press, and the P.F.A. Suarez will serve his sentence and come back to us and we must show hime the support that we traditionall show to all our players.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you.

Stayed off this site last night.
Can guess what was said though;
Kenny out, Maxi out, Downing out, Kuyt out and Carroll out.

Some fans are just idiots, we are 2 points behind 4th, we create a hatful of chances each game and have now had 3 clean sheets in a row.

You may not like some players but guess what? you support Liverpool FC and those players play for us, so, do us a favour and get behind them instead of all this negative bulls***.

KT!

Couldn't agree more

Irish red dog

Well said KT!

Every game apart from Spurs we could and should have won. We're playing great football, creating numerous chances every game and have the best defensive record in the league.

But what do you get from some 'fans' after a draw - Kenny is too old and his tactics are wrong! We were one penalty save away from winning that game!

JRG

In the last three games you have played a Wigan side without a striker, a Villa side without a striker and QPR who are also in desperate need for a striker. I would expect you to keep cleansheets against these three teams.

Disney!

Disney, we also played both Manchester clubs off the park. They were the unluckiest
draws we had this season. The film the great escape springs to mind - was that a Disney production?

Is that the game where Liverpool didn't have a single goalscoring chance until the Adam dive on 66 minutes? Isn't that the game where we rested Rooney, Nani, Vidic, Hernandez & Valencia for our midweek CL game?

You have to expect Liverpool to play well against United, after all it is your cup final.

Disney!

Sorry to inform you KT, JRG and Irish Red Dog, but woulda, coulda, shoulda doesnt get you a top 4 spot. Only better players will do that.

Steve

Didn't help Man City stay in the CL did it Steve!?

'Steve'

You say that Kenny is too old and his tactics outdated for modern football but the fact we have dominated almost every game and should have won far more but for bad luck and missed penalties shows you're wrong. We just need a couple of quality additions to the squad including a goal scorer and we will be there.

Sydney!

Of course we struggled to create any chances against you as you came to Anfield playing a 4-6-0 formation - that would be hard for any team to break down. But once you went a goal down and were forced to play with some strikers on the pitch we created numerous chances and should have gone on to win that game.

JRG

Your right! it didnt help Man City stay in the CL. But that hardly makes my point less relevant does it. We need better players for a top 4 push.

Steve

Steve

Where in my post do i say we shoulda, woulda, coulda won?
That's right nowhere.

I could go into detail about the things we did wrong after watching the game again this morning to do some analysis to learn from but there is no point as cretins like you will jump on it talking bull.

Poor Disney, the 5-5-0 was a real master plan, football the way it's supposed to be. Hey it got the draw what Fergie came looking for though so well done you.
Even many of the United fans now think you're an idiot, so go back there unless you have a decent bit of banter.

KT!

Disney
How did resting players for CL game work out for you? Who've you got in the next round?
Yeh we're not in europe blah blah blah,

And when rooney came on he looked well up for it didnt he? Get one over on the red side of liverpool? He did come on right, im sure i saw his number on the board just dont recall seeing him on the pitch, wonder where he went?
Andy C

'JRG'

I was under the impression Welbeck was a lone striker in a 4-5-1, the same formation you played against Villa.

'KT'

5-5-0? Jones played in midfield like he is doing now. If we were so worried about your attack then why did we play Evans ahead of Vidic? Or why didn't we play Carrick instead of Giggs? We played a 4-5-1 and shut you out for the game, an Adam dive and a Giggs swerve was the only reason you scored. Before that dive Nani, Rooney & Hernandez were warming up and was ready to come on to finish you off.

Disney!

You mean the same Vidic that was just coming back from injury? The same Vidic that nearly always has a mare against us.

Adam did not dive Disney, ask Rio, if he's able to arrive on time though.

Ever thought Giggs played because Carrick was in horrible form? Giggs normally does well against us too.
Don't say you would of had Carrick starting back then, you all wanted him out two weeks ago haha.

KT!

EDS please post
No rumour but I would like to commend KK and the lads for their complete support of Saurez, wearing the T-Shirts pure class and for the supporters who chanted his name well done
Regards

I Hope i can buy one of the tee shirts on boxing day that the lads wore last nite to support suarez....

I would like to say that as a neutral i am disgusted with how liverpool has handled the whole affair. from the start a thorough internal investigation should have been done by liverpool before they made any comment. How can you defend someone without finding out the facts first.
Then i can understand standing by your player but when someone has been found guilty you should show some class not wear tee shirts gloryfying the player.

I am not saying he is racist but he used a racist term.thats wrong and he should be punished.
if i went abroad and did something that was against their laws i would be punished i can get away with it because im foreign n thats what we do at home.

if this wasnt a manchester united player that had made the accusation Kenny Dalgleish wouldnt be making such a fuss.It stinks of a personal feud with Fergie.Which from the reaction of all other fans he is losing again due to lack of class.

And beofre you start i am a wigan fan but just wanted to come on here and see if there was any fan with a bit of class who would be ashamed of their club

PIEMAN {Ed001's Note - but you don't know what you are talking about. If the term he used is racist and that is the issue, how come Evra's extremely offensive racial slur is going unpunished? This despite him fully admitting using it to upset Suarez prior to the incident. Evra should take a long, hard look at himself, he is guilty of KNOWINGLY using a highly offensive racial term to talk to Suarez, then throws his toys out of his pram at a word that is not even usually associated with racism or racial abuse. In fact it is the same term his Spanish speaking team mates call him by.}

Well said ED.
The FA has it's own agenda.

The problem that will always haint Kenny is the mis-investment of most of the money spent in the last two tranfer windows. £55 million (Carroll and Downing) has been flushed down the toilet on player who don't really add anything which is a crying shame.

Enrique is the buy of the decade though.

Think that maybe Hyppia!!

Not commenting about the performance, but have to really commend suarez for his attitude last night. Never let the abuse he got from the home crowd affect him. Did not contest decisions, played with a smile on his face, even when a decision went against him just picked himself up and got on with it.

Says a lot about the character of the man. So all the mancs slating him can just shove it.

the thing i admire about chelseas owner is that he is very tough on getting results...that getting 3rd place is not good enough type

i wish we had that at liverpool.

my only real problem with liverpool............is that we dont seem to have a manager who can tell the players.....WIGAN IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS PLAYING AGAINST MAN UTD...

because how many years and how much money has been spent and this problem has not been sorted.

mourinho mentality...is the type we need as he drills it into the players...that every game is important not just the big games.

also i agree with a post about quality.......... the quality players are the ones who deliver when it matters

gerrard would of scored that pen, rooney, aguero bla bla

Agree but shouldnt Mr.Downing be raising his game?

Kenny would probably buy a crap player for 30 million and leave him on the bench

Dalglish needs to go im sorry he is the worst manager this club has had for 10 years. Lacks any tactical knowledge he has made RUBBISH signings wasted our transfer budgets and needs to go.I never wanted him to become manager but he did steady the ship now he has shown he needs to go back upstairs.

Are you a man u or everton supporter? Do you know anything about football....how can you make a statement like that? You must be thick as 2 short planks....sorry planks for degrading you....go back to school child.....

Hey speedy, back off, that guy clearly didnt watch any of our matches last season, he would realise how much of a diffrence kenny has made if he actually watched the matches...

walk on

Totally agree, sack Dalglish with immediate effect. Lets stop all this fairying around with pass and move football. The Big hoof, that's what's needed from center-half to center forward. All that money wasted on a midfield, no need for midfield play these days. Couple of Yards dogs at center back and a good old hob-nailed boots centre forward, instead of all that poncing around from that Uraguyian 20million waste of space. Lets get rid of all that future talent nonesence. We need a few of those mercenary players like Tevez and Torrres, they understand the real values in football. Turn Liverpool into a ManCity or Chelsea football club. Lets face it, if you can't create success, lets just buy it. Dalglish-Out!

I'm not a team/player basher, but here's my thoughts on last night.

The first 10 minutes we had them penned in and I thought we were going to get a couple of goals at least.

In our enthusiasm to get forward there was suddenly these gaping gap between our defence and midfield.

Wigan just kept getting the ball in this gap and running at our defence, which was then in disarray. Victor Moses especially was a threat. Clearly missed Lucas in there.

I think ultimately we got all we deserved from the game, and at the end of the season pundits and critics alike will loook back and say "same old Liverpool", unable to get 3 points at the lesser teams to force ourselves up the table.

We have to accept there is some truth in this.

My 2 real gripes from the game are:

1. Adam's penalty...red areas....come on...he is one of the best dead ball strikers at the club...pick a corner...off centre chest high is not good.
2. 5-6 minutes for Carroll. Needed at least 25. Clearly shows a lack of faith in the big lad.

I still think we are a million times better than last year, expectation is high but a top four finish is achievable but we have to be more consistent as there are a lot of good teams fighting for realistically 4th and 5th place.

Kez

Maybe this team is playing to its best potential and its just no good enough?

How to fix it?

I think this team just needs the confidence that comes with banging in some goals.

Kez

^6th aint good enough, but it aint mid-table.Disney,take a characters name from oneve your productions-DUMBO!

Disney, we are doing fine, we are rebuilding and the signs are good.

Solid defence, good midfield, creating chances we are just not putting our chances away. A couple of players coming in in Jan and we will turn the draws into wins.

All long term sucess comes from building from the back.

Top 4 would be great but I am enjoying watching our team for the first time in years and as long as they play good football I will be happy supporter!

Oh and snidey (L*) net spend is approx. 30-35m over past 12 months.

GGK

Fair play, and I agree with you that it's good watching the team you love in transition. I am enjoying our transition, Liverpool fans delude themselves calling it decline, but it is just a transition, probably the hardest transition of SAF's managerial career.

Net spends are only important from a club's point of view, if a manager sells players for £100m, then spends that £100m on players, he has still spent £100m, the club haven't spent anything, but the manager has had £100m to spend.

Not sure if you've heard this before but one of the more creative moans from the fans last night was to call Kuyt "Pot Noodle Head"

Any good new ED's? Anything looking likely.

Christmas looks likely soon.

22 Dec 2011 08:34:12
Hi ed, I was just trying to say that we had a tall front man before but he did score a few goals for us. He might not have been the best header of the ball but he still scored more goals than Carroll has in his first 12 months with us.

Admittedly it took crouch 19 games to score but he ended up banging in 13 goals in his first season.

Also crouch has an excellent scoring record for England (using both head and feet), despite coming in as sub most times.

Basically we have had big men up front before who have forged good partnerships with smaller skilful forwards, however with Carroll, that's no happening. I know he has been coming in as sub a lot this season but when he has started, he's been shocking!

What we need up front is someone that can read what suarez is thinking, not some 6'+ lumbering striket with no pace or vision. kos

22 Dec 2011 08:14:18
so where does everyone think Andy Carroll will be on Jan 30th. Coz he wont be at Anfield. We needed a goal last night and the donkey Daglish left him on the bench and brought on Shelvy. When he did come on he was a swap for Suarez. I thought we needed the win but he must have been happy with the point. KOS

Dalglish is the WORST manager out off all the top 6 clubs. He has no tactical knowledge knows nothing about players having rejected the chance to buy mata and bought Henderson instead, wastes our transfer budget adam= CRAP, downing=crap,Carroll= CRAP,Hendo = CRAP,our best signings have been enrique, and bellamy and suarez. He has no players in the box for corners and has wasted chances to win matches by not making subs when he should have.He was a great player but as a manager he is championship standard. DALGLISH OUT before he wastes more money in jan

22 Dec 2011 08:08:32
Well, well, well.
It's business as usual, in true LFC fashion.

*tactical ineptitude by our manager Kenny "He knows" Dalglish
*Downing mediocre as usual
*Adam AGAIN demonstrating why he'll NEVER be a high-calibre, class player required at this level; back-up material at best
*Johnson typically hit-and-miss
*limited sources of genuine creative

Can't say am surprised, though. I expected this all along.
After August 31st, it was crystal clear, to the discerning and perceptive eye at least, that there's one place this team is going to finish, and that's not in the CL places.
It was equipped for anything but top 4.

The blind loyalists, suckers and a*selickers alike may not like to hear it, but it's GOTTA be said: Kenny's dealings have rendered us the sixth best team in the league, as reflected by our current position.

This team was (as it still is) crying out for pace, flair, guile, trickery, imagination and ingenuity.
This would've broaden our options in terms of genuine creative outlets.
It would, in any case, have remedied our underbelly that is matches against your Stokes, Wigans etc.

Apart from Suarez, there's such player in our team.
It is when we have Suarez and he is playing well that we seem a good team.
Out Suarez, we our lethargic, dull, unimaginative selves.
And I FULLY blame our manager for putting us in such a perilous position.
He could and SHOULD have addressed in summer.
Instead, he goes blows a whopping £20m of our money on Stewart Downing, a second-rate, not-too-bad at best bottom to midtable club player who's never shown any potential of being a top calibre footballer; wastes £6m on Adam, a terribly poor mans Alonso with neither the talent nor fitness and mentality to be an important player at a big club.

This on top of having frittered away £35m on the generally but acutely inadequate Andy Carroll.
So circa £60m on players who'll never be A grade.

None of Adam, Downing and Henderson would start at Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Utd and Spurs.
Yet, they are regulars in our first eleven.
Pathetic.

And don't tell me that I "should support" Carroll.
His own manager, the man who defied logic by shelled out £35m for him, appears to have lost faith in him.
So why should I believe in him if Kenny, who brought him here, doesn't?
Don't bulls**t me!

I'll conclude by reiterating my point that I don't expect us to finish in the top 4.
The teams who properly equipped to do so will.

Don't fool yourselves thinking that failure to attain CL "won't be the end of the world".
It WILL be.
2 years out of Europe has seen our stock fall.
A third will be the killer blow.

We won't attract top calibre talent (in fact we may lose our own), Spurs and Arsenal- already better placed than us- will pull clear and widen the gap even further, the stadium issue, running at loss etc.
The implications for failure to get CL couldn't be more ghastly.
We may well start becoming a genuine midtable team.

CL is a make or break for us. Sadly, I don't see us getting in there. The quality just isn't there.

Melville

As much as i hate to say it melville, ur right. We need atleast 3 WORLD CLASS players to get back into the top4. This squad is only good enough for 6th place.
Indian Buzzer

A bit harsh!

Once again Melville, you are an empty headed fool

Do you go to the games?

DaveyBootle

Sir, I share some of your concerns. We have to remember the teams above us have a mature/experienced style of play than we do as they've payed together for longer. Our 2 most experienced players Gerrard/Lucas are injured. No disrespect to Adam or Henderson it would be unfair to put all our hopes on them. The standards of the teams above us are much higher simple as that. There is still hope for 4th place as we are no more than 5 points behind Chelsea with 5 months of the season left.

Sam armchair

Whats that got to do with anything. lfc have a fan base worldwide. its nothing to do woth going to games... people can see the obvious, tactics are ok when sides come on to liverpool, but when it comes to breaking down a side daglish is clueless.

What we need in the squad is a clinical forward to team up with luis suarez up front! the lad can do everything for the team but for some reason he doesn't score that much... anyone like soldado, cavani or higuain would fill the gap and bolster our attack massively...

Dreamland.... you lot better realise that without champions league football any player worth their salt like the ones above will never sign for liverpool, unless they are just after a pay day... i'm more worried about keeping the little quality we have in the side next summer ......kos

22 Dec 2011 06:32:23
liverpool need a proven striker. otherwise forget a top four finish. simple as that. kenny should teach the players how to score goals. the amount of clear cut chances we are missing is sickening. performance last night was very poor. this is liverpool being inconsistent as usual. i am frustrated. sa red

Scoring is a natural instinct, Kennt had it, Fowler had it, Rush had it

Unfortunately it can't be thought!

Maybe it can be taught though

22 Dec 2011 06:30:55
it really is strange, barring roy, he was just s**t. rafa was said to have to many draws now kenny is doing the same. i just cant figure it out, ok we buy a prolific stiker, problems solved some say on here. he gets injured.....what then ?? we just seem to be so unlucky !! we go to fulham play well and loose one nil, utd play them and win five nil.....says it all really. the whole thing just takes time, we have got rid of the players we wanted rid of and bought some new ones with abit of quality but they just havent shown it in abundance yet......im hopin top four bit if not then we try again next time. keep the faith it will come good just have abit of patience.

Was prob our 3rd Worst performance
1) spurs away
2) Swansea Home
3)Wigan Away ..

Enrique was only 1 +ve from Match and another clean sheet.

Downing + Henderson + caroll ..
Cost us a lot, but they are part of team so we should support them

Few things that can change..
Caroll to start few games, he hasnt really had a good run in the team..
Can you change the game in 6 mins ..surely i cant ..
Downing needs to be played atleast for 45 mins to see if he can get some good crosses in ..
Kuyt , Maxi shud play more as Subs ..
Bellamy shud start games and we can finish teams off in fist half..
Johnson RW (amend his contract) and Kelly RB
Downing LW and Enrique LB

Adam and Coates in Middle..
Suarez/Bellamy and Caroll up front ..

We played well and got a draw. Idiot. Couldve won but didnt lose. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM. Idiot

22 Dec 2011 06:11:18
yet again we have blown a chance to move up the table , if we cant even beat wigan then what chance have we got in getting into top 4!!
i think its time for kuyt to move on when he plays he slows us down and does not give us anything no more, dalglish got the team wrong and even the subs wrong, why bring caroll on with 4 mins to go, top 4 is vital for lfc this season if we want to push on next year and getting better players

Agree mate, kuyt has to move on. He is not doing himself n the club any favours by staying. MLS wud be a good option for him.
Indian Buzzer

Chelsea did not beat them either, mate. I guess chelsea ain't top 4 club too.

Like many i too am dissapointed with the result. I was happy with a few performances (Enrique obviously, Reina was class as usual) many players looked jaded as mentioned. Perhaps the short rest from the weekend. You have to give credit to Wigan though, they played extremely well; pressured us on the ball and often forced us into making mistakes and losing possession. Agree with another post, Adam and Hendo were too advanced and left us exposed and there was a lack of urgency in many cases for them to track back when Wigan were on the counter. I think we definately need another DM (to support the squad not replace Lucas) as the fore-mentioned CM players, Shelvey and in my opinion Spearing are not good enough in that role.

22 Dec 2011 05:31:41
My opinion guys/gals is that.....yes we never played brilliantly and some players were shockingly bad today but last season we would have lost today 1 nil. They could have scored and we would have been worse off. We gained a point considering how poor we were. Yes we created a few chances and should have scored but thats how this season is going. We are consistently bad this year in front of goal.
Yes certain players were awful but lets not get on ther back....I am sure Kenny is smart enough to see this. As for the Suarez scenario....As bad as it is it might change our fortune in the short term as it means we definetely will buy another forward (hopefully a striker not an attacker- if you understand football you will know what I mean) and it will also mean that Carrol may get the run he needs and this might change his fortune and luck and hopefully start producing the goods. We can all hope but with all the silky football we are playing we are not scoring so a change in style might help us to ground out 3 pointers instead of 1.
Yes, we should have won but I for one am glad we vame away with the point after the way the game was going. We looked like we could have scored 6 goals in the first 20 minutes then faded away and then missed the penalty....to me that signalled a last minute goal to Wigan to rub our noses in it and send us packing. Dont forget Chelsea only got a draw there and they are in my opinion ahead of us at this stage even though we beat them twice. I have faith in the squad against the big boys I just have a lack of faith when we play against the little teams (no offence to them about calling them little). I think its a mental thing and a lack of motivation that maybe the staff/management are at fault. But you couldnt fault the first 20 minutes because we were up for the game and we should have scored. I think the confidence of not being able to hit the net must be getting to the players and starting to show..... sorry if you dont agree with my thoughts.... but I just dont think we should be slating our players right now....we need them to concentrate on playing not trying to impress the fans....if you know what I mean

Only now getting in after a dreadful 4hr drive back to sunny Wales, after what can only be described as a shocking performance from all bar Enrique.
So here goes,
I'm not sure what has happened to Downing recently but his confidence seems to be at rock bottom. Whatever side of the pitch he played on as soon as we broke instead of bombing on and hugging the touchline he just wandered infield offering no width what so ever. The one time he actually got wide and drove at his man he beat him and created a goal scoring chance. Adam just looked he was running on empty from the start, and gave away possesion nearly every time he had it. Maxi didn't get into the game at all and looked a very poor player, he just wandered around in no mans land not looking for the ball or marking anyone (reminded me of Poulsen). And Kuyt is no longer good enough to get anywhere near our starting 11. Carroll couldn't have done any worse than Kuyt or Maxi, so I just hope that at some point Kenny will give Carroll the same chances that he is affording to Dirk and Maxi.
We played so deep that in possesion we struggled to get out of our half because we were all on top of each other, and when not in possesion we allowed Wigan so much time and space they could do what they wanted. The only plus was Enrique, barring a few miss controls, he was excellent as usual.

Come on the Red men, we are better than this!

All I have seen is this magic comment, we need a 25+ goal poacher no matter what.
They are not as easily uncovered as you might think. And what do we do if he is having a dip in form? Look at Torres, he may be a traitor in mine and many peoples eyes, but when he was here and in form he was banging them in like crazy. Did that win us the league? No, so obviously the magic CF goal machine we want is not enough. We need quality and consistency throughout the team and squad. Not all players have to be superstars, they just need to fulfill their roles so that the star men can do their stuff. I personally have never liked our Captain to be a goalkeeper, I have always preferred our centre midfielder to have that because they are obviously in the centre of the action all the time. I cannot see how our GK being Captain can aid our strikeforce as well and SG can from midfield. I have no idea about who I want the club to bring in, I do not see enough of foreign leagues to speculate, I see a lot of names suggested, but just because they are a star in the league they play now does not guarantee success in the EPL. Look at Morientes, he was quality in Spain and on loan in France, but what did he do for us? I hink we need to show faith in our scouts to find us the talent we need and just get behind the team no matter who is playing for us. It will take at least 2-3 seasons in my opinion for everything to be in place to challenge for the title, but if we can bloody a few noses while we make that journey, then I am more than satisfied.

Red4Ever

Reina is one of the best keepers in the league, if not the world. Personally, i havent any problems with him wearing our armband. Anyway, his role as captain shouldnt deter the likes of agger and adam to be leaders on the pitch. I, like most supporters, was dissapointed with todays match, but remember where we were at this point last year. Happy holidays everyone. -Hutchinson

The problem with Morientes was that he was sitting on the bench for 6 months prior to us getting him which meant his fitness was all out....something that Carrol and Adam at one point has suffered with.
Speedy

Yea but when we had Torres scoring 25,other aeeas of the team needed strenghthening!Thats the problem,we sort one area at a time.Always 3/4 players short.WE DO NEED THAT PROLIFIC STRIKER AT THE MOMENT!!

Bet F- all- A-ssholiation let Terry off,and say cival CPS issue.Cant punirh twice-same offence,or other bull. For the so called England Captain. Also media, and Black guy from panel missing fact that if indeed Manc u players DO call Evra the nickname in question, when will they ALL be answering panels questions?Think that lower leauge Racism spokesman(forgot name, was on countdown)needs to get lot of his facts right before his continual spouting.Suarez is pawn in F.A v Blatter dispute over same issue

Ed, just thinking out loud, but do you think there is a possibility that the reason why nobody (Eds and Macca) hearing anything, is because, Kenny is once again keeping his cards very close to his chest in regards to January signings (if any)? Cheers pal

ToonRed {Ed001's Note - yes, that is why we editors have to get stuff from other places and have to wait until we make our move.}

So you guys only hear once we've actually made an official move for them? The Rafa days are very much gone then

ToonRed {Ed001's Note - not official, just any kind of move or we can often find out which teams we are looking at. It is certainly changed from the Rafa days thankfully, I hated seeing it all out in the open as a fan.}

22 Dec 2011 01:25:26
Hope we get some players in January. Preferably a striker and get rid of that waste of space and breath Andy Carroll. God help us with Suarez out for eight games.

Skrtels' centre parting

He just needs a run of games, this is his time to shine

Rubbish. Carroll isnt good enough, 20 minutes last game, 5 minutes this game seems to show what the coaching staff think of him at the moment. He obviously isnt doing the work required to get more minutes or a starting place.

Steve

22 Dec 2011 01:24:40
{Ed001's Note - I doubt there is any real point in appealing to the FA, but you have to show willingness to work within the laws of the game before you can take things further.}

sry ed001 but i dont understand what u mean by willingness to work within the laws of the game? care to explain?

Kaizer {Ed001's Note - I mean you have to take it one step at a time, you can't just jump straight to the high courts.}

22 Dec 2011 01:24:36
no point getting your hopes up about villa having surgery out for the season, not a rumour just an opinion nige de jong must be frustrated with lack of games at city? I think it would be a good deal if we were to get him on loan till the end of the season! need a right winger will balance the team and a poacher who can score 20+ a season! Any rumours or names of a striker coming in? {Ed001's Note - De Jong is in dispute over his wages at City, apparently 133k a week + bonuses etc is not enough for him.}

Man City idiots should pay him 3 times that amount :)

This is what happens when u have too many mercenaries in a squad. Why cant citeh understand dat 5-6 world class players r more than enough to win u the bpl?

If someone new jumps into the frame, we will tell you.}
