I think it should be quite obvious by now that suarez is staying! Well atleast till jan. He seems to be smiling again in training and had a good old chat with br while being gerrard been apart of them meetings. I think they have come up with a compromise that is "see what position lfc are come jan and if we are well amongst the top 4 then we expect u to stay. But if we are well outside the top 4 then we won't stand in your way and you can move" that's what I think has happened and suarez has agreed. I think he truly does love lfc and if he thinks we have improved and we are amongst the top 4 jan time, he would love to stay and hopefully win things with lfc than any other club. His got a temper but more than that he has a winning mentality so high that if his current club (lfc) ain't challenging for honours, of course his wanna go to a team that can give him that chance. Its now up to lfc and him to push hard this season and hopefully we will win a cup and make top 4 and I truly believe we can :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I must have missed the part where it was obvious. And if you 'loved' the club, you don't treat it like he has. Suarez loves Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez doesn't love the club. Liverpool FC has never been important to him. We have to be happy if he stays as he's a top class player and we don't have a replacement this late in the window. So he will put in his usual 110% and we will cheer when he scores and hopefully he will sod off for 50m+ next year when we have someone equally as good to replace him. Anyone who plays for LFC should get our support. but hopefully we won't have to support him much longer

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol, saurez doesn't love the club and doesn't want to be there, I don't know what part of that statment people don't understand

Agree0 Disagree0

If Real come up with 50 million for Luis, we should get rid. I do not want to see another soap opera involving my club in January again. It would just demoralise the whole squad if he forced his way out mid season. There are still some players out there who would fit better into BR's system like Damiao and Turan (my personal favorites to replace Suarez and fill the left wing position). I don't want to see us taking any more s**t from Suarez, we are LFC and we deserve better.

Just read the Guardian article and it is clear that ROdgers is a very frustrated manager at the minute. He obviously realises we are on the verge of becoming a very good side with the addition of 1 or 2 top quality 1st teamers and the purchase of Willian would, no doubt, have been a major step in this direction. There is no doubt that some of the quotes are a message to the owners. Most probably grievances he has aired to them in private, though releasing them in an article is a way to get the fans onside. Well played Mr Rodgers, much more subtle than Rafa and hopefully this exerts the required pressure on the hierarchy!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Willian played us and now he's playing spurs, let him go to chelsea, he's not worth 32 million pounds . {Ed002's Note - He was no more than a player Liverpool were interested in, that they did not offer enough money to buy. If Liverpool were to offer sufficient money even now perhaps a deal could be done. If he is after a commitment on game time he won't get that from Chelsea. Nothing is finalised yet.}

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO, the problem is that the players we are after are those that for some reason are not interested in playing for us or we are just unlucky in the market at the moment. I don`t think BR is frustrated at FSG BUT more at the fact that we are not getting the players period. FSG put up the money for HM (who`s not marquee because nobody really knew who he was), Costa (who has CL and and will be the guy along w/ Villa) and Willian (based on what we know is nothing but a money-grabbing merc). I will call that bad luck. BR is doing a decent job and the owners are trying to stop the financial mess we`re in (that nobody seems to care about). If buying mercs like Willian is what some people want and not care about the whole it blows into our wage structure or by how much we get mugged by agents and players` wages, then the owners have my support to stick to their guns. We have struck cold w/ Cout, Studg, Migs, Kolo, Aspas, and maybe Alberto at decent fees all in one year. How many teams can boast that in this day and age of over-priced flops? some clubs haven`t bought a soul and we`ve bought 5 players since july and we`re the ones panicking? BR, FSG, and Ayre will get us what we NEED and at the right price. Stay strong and keep the faith lads and don`t let the media (some of which are bent on putting us down regardless of what we achieve) sway your belief in our great club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dubred68, you are so wrong! What has he got to do with anything! Its everywhere! We did not meet his 32M evaluation, right or wrong. But he did mention only our club's name in public. Not getting ahead of myself but we're still attractive to good players is all that I wanted to say.

Just on Guardian website: Liverpool expecting a bid for Suarez from Real before window closes. Any bid will be rebuffed by the club, due to the difficulty of getting a quality replacement striker.
Arsenal are hoping Real bid for Suarez, to enable them to in turn bid for Benzema. However, Benzema is a favourite of club president Perez, and Benzema has no desire to leave Real.
Obviously a good deal of speculation involved here, but I feel that we may still have major movement ahead, a domino effect in late stages of the window. Suarez would spit the dummy big time if Real come in.
On a happier note, Willian is now considering his options: even though he's agreed terms with Spurs, Chelsea have entered the race and turned his head. Karma's a bitch ain't it? {Ed002's Note - Nothing we didn't know then.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 22:48:55
All this talk about a marque signing. does anyone else feel that keeping Suarez would be akin to a marque signing? surely one of the top 5 players in the world? I think if Brendan pulls it off, then that is good enough for me!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sakho and Turan. They would feel like we've completed the squad

Both available so it's now up to FSG to prove they want to take us forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nowhere near one of the top 5 players in the world in my opinion, but that's just an opinion. I have no interest in him remaining at the club, personally.

Agree0 Disagree0

Professional football is a business. If Suarez stays and gives the kind of effort we know he can like a pro should, he will be like a new signing at least till Jan and will destroy teams along w/ cout and studge.

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL that is just silly. I can understand your frustration with him but that doesn't change his ability.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is it silly? Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie, Iniesta, and Lewandowski. All better than Suarez, in my opinion, and I could easily name probably 10 more without thinking too hard about it. He's good, but he's not top 5 or even top 10 in my opinion.

Just curious to know your thoughts on this.

If it was Sturridge who picked up a major injury instead of Coates do you think.
a) Borini would be ready to step up?
b) Aspas will be the one to lead the line?
c) We would look to the transfer market?

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suspect it would be Borini, Aspas Coutinho front 3, possibly Sterling/Ibe instead of Borini.

Interesting question for sure.

I think if Sturridge did get a major injury we would indeed look to bring someone in though.

Agree0 Disagree0

We've needed C all summer and its not looking good is it?

Aspas, Borini and Suarrez. Plus Yesil could break into the first team if really short.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cough suarez cough

Agree0 Disagree0

Probs Aspas

Agree0 Disagree0

Since you got it going Red-Rum, what would happen if Cou got injured? DISASTER!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 22:36:05
BR saying it was not football reasons which mean FSG did not back him with enough money to get the player he feels would have fitted the jigsaw. That is terrible. Who do they expect us to get now, Freddie adu?!

The only way to restore some faith with us fans who breathe this club and take everything personally is to get sakho and turan who are both excellent additions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wrong! What that meant was that lfc wanted the player but wouldn`t pay what they felt was excessive fees (especially if the 5m for agent fees is true). That`s what is called a non-footballing reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Greedy agents
LFC not mugs anymore

Agree0 Disagree0

Not footballing reasons = Kia Joorabchian. apparently he wanted a fee of £5m? Quite frankly he can foxtrot Oscar!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whatever the reason, we will know by the end of the window what FSG's long term intentions are.

If we fill the gaps in the squad that are obvious to everyone, (whether they be marquee signings or not) I would accept that they have the clubs best interests at heart.

If the window closes and these positions are not filled, and the window shows a profit on sales and buys, we will all know what they are trying to achieve, ie obtain success on the cheap with the Manager's hands tied behind his back.

Please don't reply about them saving the club, they bought it at a knockdown price and are guaranteed to make profit if they sell. Someone posted earlier about £60m television money and it was stated that we haven't received it yet. Come on - it's not like waiting for a lottery win, this is guaranteed money that will defintely coming. If they can't back a bridging loan to bring in who we need before the window shuts, they just don't get the picture. Making top 4 this season could be make or break for Liverpool.

We will only know on 2nd September but, pessimistically, I envisiage sitting up late on deadline day only to go to bed deflated (and no - I'm not a blow up doll!)

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 23:43:54
Mate I was shocked by what Rodgers said, infact he put all blame on owners by saying, his job is to identify right players who will improve/help us but the owners are the ones who have last say, he even added Quality will cost you money, he was so gutted that it was showing all over his face!

Agree0 Disagree0

Worrying re situation, we were all happy with early transfer deals, 4 good buys. and comments about enlarging the squad. But if you take into account out goings the squad is smaller. and we have spent minus £1,000,000 . and lowered the wage bill . Owner must be very happy business wise, BUT do they have the ambition to move the club forward, only time will tell, they just cannot take to long deciding

Agree0 Disagree0

Spend within our means and spend ethically. what is this agent doing for £5M? If the player really wants to join us he'll pay his agent himself or make him lower his fees to secure the move.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am 100% behind FSG to start before I take to much flack .
But its all well and good JoK saying we are not mugs any more when the teams we are competing with still are . if all our main competitors were taking the same stand we would be ok but there not . they instead pay what they have to to get the players they feel will drasticley help the team. we have had a good summer in the market but FSG need to loosen there stance just a little and get some of the guys we need .

Agree0 Disagree0

I think some people are reading too many "hidden messages".

In the Guardian quote, Rodgers

said:"(FSG) will finance a project we are trying to develop and what we have to make sure of is we get the right players and the value and worth of the player is right."

Not sure how this constitutes a "pop" by Rodgers at FSG.

If the problem is that FSG don't want to pay an additional 5m to the agent, I support them.

It's past time that the football authorities do something to regulate and cap agent fees. It appears out of control.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously don`t know where you got that tom but good job.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has every right to blame them. Who'll get sacked if we don't get top four?

Agree0 Disagree0

The worst situation will be when suarez goes to madrid next week and we can't get a replacement in. Dameio? would he come last minute to england?

i just hope we can get a few more signings in {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool made an acceptable offer to Damaio and his club, then a transfer can be completed in the next 10 days - or are Liverpool hindered by a shorter transfer window than everyone else?}

Evening Eds,

Is there any remote chance of us going for Ben Arfa, I know he's injury prone but he was like a jewel in a box of marbles the other night for newcastle

Appreciate if ye guys have anything on his availabilty {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any interest from Liverpool Bob.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Luis suarez will be off to madrid in my opinion benzema looks like arsenal bound

Abbas lfc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And replacement for suarez is any ideas

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree, think he will go last week of window, we should put a bid in for Joan mata and may need to get through till next window a striker short, better that than a panic buy

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas

Agree0 Disagree0

Any Ideas scored 25 in the Hungarian top division last season as well assisting a further 20. My first choice would South Korean striker Fuq No's as he is both footed and is a footballing genius.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 23:43:17
My opinion benteke brilliant player and in time will be one of the best as he has everything
Pace
Power
Good in air
Touch is good
And
GOALS!

Abbas lfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez will go no where if BR and FG don`t have a good replacement which they don`t. I`ll be shocked if they let last summer`s debacle repeat itself.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2013 12:20:09
A post from Ed02 yesterday mentioned that Suarez agent, when asked who we would look to replace him with, mentioned daimio and vela as probable targets

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 22:12:18
Moses eh?

1 goal in 23 league appearances last season
22 key passes(less than 1 a game)
Won 41% of his take ons.

Considering we created more chances than any team in europe last year i'd confidently say that we ain't interested. If we did end up signing him it would be a panic buy and a mistake

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Waste of a wage. No improvement in what we already have. If Chelsea want to sell someone we'll have Lukaku

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree, can't be compared to a player like Sturridge who was criminally ignored by Chelsea, Moses just isn't very good, not an improvement on Downing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ken we can agree there but no doubt he'll be left to rot on the bench. Such a waste

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather give the playing time Moses would get to Ibe

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 21:48:57
Can you tell us more on eriksen and stupidly why we haven't gone for him?taking into account our policy of youth but wanting quality for the starting 11 and at a not so ridiculous cost and with his skills technique and winning mentality even at 20 million would be a bargain? {Ed002's Note - Eriksen continues to talk to the press, which generally makes clubs nervous. There are no acceptable offers on the table at all, but interest remains from AC Milan (who have agreed terms with his agent). Spurs may well push harder as Pjanic is no longer an option.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can`t wait till the window`s over so this Eriksen obsession can be over and done with. He`s not good enough, period.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 21:44:47
Sorry eds but you keep mentioning an upcoming bid for suarez from Madrid likely, but I'd like to ask if anything's changed regarding what you'd expect the offer to consist of?
100% cash or part exchange?
I'd prefer the latter as I believe we would be far less troubled in tempting a top talent like Ozil or Di Maria if they felt like they were being forced out by the club, as is sort of the case in a player exchange.
Do you think either of these two could be tempted to come to anfield in a said deal? {Ed002's Note - If they could find a player they want to leave who would be interested in a move to Liverpool they will do that.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 21:43:25
Hi eds if Madrid come in for Suarez would 40 m plus morata on season long loan be possible, as we're not going to replace Suarez with so little time left in the window but it could work out if we sign another attacking player for the left wing and push coutinho in the centre behind sturridge,
Thanks
Jeff {Ed002's Note - I have no real idea Jeff. Perhaps they would be interested in such a deal..}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

40 million and moratta ON LOAN? That's as bad as 40 million plus one quid, glad you aren't negotiating for us!

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 23:09:20
Just a ball park figure mark relax, but in reality if Madrid did offer say even 45 mil and morata on loan for a season if day Suarez will be off,
Thanks
Jeff

ssn reporting Chelski now the likely home for Willian. Any eds know anything about this? Funny everyone moaning we'd been hijacked and now it might have happened to Spurs. {Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So much for Spurs getting one over us. This just shows that you can`t count your chickens b4 they`re hatched. There`s a reason lfc walked away from this deal and now you can see why. He and his agent are quite pathetic.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:53:11
i still think a cheeky thomas ince bid may still be on the cards

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope not, not good enough IMHO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's be honest, Raheem Sterling and Jordan Ibe are better than Ince .

Agree0 Disagree0

Does frustrate me when I see some of the players that some of my fellow supporters want to see wear the red shirt.

For example Victor Moses, Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair, Tom Ince, Carlos Vela just to name a few, surely we have had enough mediocrity over the last few years to last a lifetime!

Although looking at that list of dross, you could be forgiven for thinking it was a list of players Damien Comolli had recommended!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark it's the same fans who hope for fourth not first.
But when players like Turan and Sakho are wanting moves and we've not bid isn't a wonder why we are straw clutching.
If FSG brought these in we wouldn't be posting about players like Richards etc and we would not be HOPING for fourth but talking up this being our year.

Unfortunately it's a case of owning a Ferrari but not affording the petrol yet still expecting to be in the race.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carlos Vela torn apart teams last year, very much an improvement from his Araenal days. Would be lucky to sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Add Victor Moses to that list too.

Though i'm not sure on reflection that Willian would ever have been a good signing either, from a weak league, not an international regular and no great end product, maybe a bullet dodged?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:47:57
im going to tenerife tomorrow for two weeks anybody know of any good bars near the adaje area I can go to watch the matches

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The sun and the moon bar right on the sea front, big white building with a round front .they show about two or thre games at once.right above a excellent live music bar with a live band on Sundays called the lizard kings

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:46:17
i think we all need to calm a bit, forget the willians, mkrtchyan, ericksons and let the scouting team do their jobs i'd much rather have 3 players like coutinho and sturridge than 1 30m random that's had a good season in a relatively poor leauge.
i think were going to have a much better season than last with the squad we already had now they have had chance to adjust to Rodgers style of play, toure is an immense signing as is mignolet, I also think aspas is going to be a real gem, if he gets game time i'm certain he will outscore soldado negredo and jovetic, all 20m+ signings and we payed 7

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, Sturridge and Countinho are inspired signings and the additions of Toure, Aspas and Mignolet looks like superb business .

Who knows what will become of Alberto and Cissokho this season, however I have total confidence in Rodgers and 'the RT' to find the right players based on their work thus far .

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed. Let the experts who got us Toure, Cout, Sturridge, Aspas Migs, etc do their job, PLEASE!

Agree0 Disagree0

I have complete faith in Rodgers and his staff to find quality targets right for us - I have no faith in FSG actually spending the money required to bring them to the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:28:16
I saw you say Ljajic is of interest to Atleti, is that in case Arda goes ED?

Cheers {Ed002's Note - I would not try and over complicate anything.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 20:26:11
with benzema surplus at real and guna be sold, do the edds reckon they'll go 4 suarez? after all its late in the window and henry and rodgers said d can't replace him . would it be d case Liverpool would inform real that any potential sale to them would depend on us getting someone in b4 the sale of suarez? {Ed002's Note - RTP.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 20:26:04
You know if Chelsea sign Willian then LFC will probably make a move for Victor Moses - 10 goals in 43 appearances last season .

What do you reckon, is this a good shout as back up with Ibe & Sterling to our strongest front 4 of Sturridge, Aspas, Countinho & Suarez?

Whatever happens I expect a good season this year .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moses would be a good call in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

I`m Nigerian and Moses plays for the national team and when he does, he and Ahmed Musa of CSKA are electrifying with pace and power on the flanks. Wouldn`t be a bad idea BUT I worry about his end product, tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rather we didn't sign Moses and just took a look at Musa, he is going to be special.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:14:13
So no Scott Sinclair now, thank godddddd! I'm hoping for ilori or sakho. Papa is a little price heavy.

Arda Turan has got to happen! If we do sell Suarez last minute I can see us then getting damieo which I would be very happy. I do think Suarez will stay for the season.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Papa injured his knee again in training

Agree0 Disagree0

Has he really injured the knee again. Hope we make a solid move for Sakho now.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:10:35
Ive been thinking and was wondering if saurez hadnt been such a knob again last season and got banned for the last 6 games, if he had scored another 4/5 goals it could be real madrid that were offering 95 for saurez and not bale.
youve got to admire levy at spurs the guy is a total animal and everybody who deals with him knows he is no tool and won't be mugged off, the team spurs are putting together with AVB to be honest is frightening.
im very optimistic with the way things are going at Liverpool and I think BR is the real deal, now i'm not asking for marquee signings but we really need some experience, I think were 3 players away from really mounting a serious challenge but as Rodgers says they need to be the right players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think two Turan and Sakho.

I guess it would be great to have decent cover for Mignolet. But two above would give us an awesome squad. Without it feels very ok nothing more.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:04:17
surely if chelsea sign willian someone willbe leaving

they ll have oscar hazard mata schurrle de bryune willian and moses for three positions

i quite like victor moses, I think he d be a decent signing for us and he offers a goal threat

thanks {Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What are the chances of getting De Bryune off chelsea? If Willian signs he would surely have Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Willian and arguably Schurlle in front of him for a spot in the team. {Ed002's Note - None.}

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:01:39
one of the eds here say that willian wasn t along term target for us we just went for him because he became available

would this sugget we still have option for the wide left attcking position

if so who?

thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Turan

Ive seen people mention diego capel so I thought I would check some videos. Within 3seconds he reminded me of assaidi. Runs exactly like him and gets kicked about a lot. He doesn't look very tidy at all.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 19:47:27
Hi eds is Cissokho available for Villa? As the paper work been passed completed? {Ed002's Note - He should be.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 19:41:50
if its a case of turan and sakho wanting a move to lfc let's just try 4 that . all these eriksens and willians are a joke . too much drama associated with them . like chelsea don't even need willian . willing to pay 30mill for mourinhos games and ego . fact is he would have got game time at anfield in an important world cup year and fair enuf his club wants d most cash . if your talking 20 mil for turan 8 for sakho and I heard lazio are doing business with yilmaz at 8 m . they're the 3 buys i'd like . well within the structre i'd imagine at a stretch but atleast 2 show a desire to play for lfc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would love to see them all but surely yilmaz would cost 25+, not 8.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 19:39:55
If Real Madrid get Bale what will happen to Di Maria?
Could be our downing replacement ;) {Ed002's Note - He is a target for Arsenal.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well, right now, everyone are Arsenal targets now aren't they! Pity those Eds at the Arsenal page right now. BTW why do you think Arsenal couldn't get a proper player in? Financial or negotiation?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 19:35:37
Spuds aha chelski hijacked the move right before he signed for spuds. And they have lost bale now too. Hopefully we get some lamela and arda, and get top 4. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Some lamela and arda, their arms maybee?

Shelvey absolutely bossing the game for Swansea. His range of passing spot on his tackling fierce not to mention good possitional sense. Looks like he's found his comfort zone just a pitty he didn't really do it for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He never got the chance pal

Agree0 Disagree0

He should of been loaned out for a season

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 20:51:12
This has probably happened because finding out he was thought surplus here and has been allowed to leave has been a kick up the backside, one that he needed. He was not good enough at all last season; if he makes it in the end, fair play to the lad.

Agree0 Disagree0

The people we have now are better than him so no worries there. I wish him well tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 19:31:37
Ok. Imagine this.
*willian ends up moving to chelski for money
*tottenham are now loath to sell bale and reject the offer RM thought would be accepted.
*unwilling to negotiate further, RM sign suarez for £55m
*Liverpool snatch Lamela from tottenham who have ended their action in the market and also sign sakho for £10m, Ilori for £6m and will Hughes for £10m. Everyone's thrilled! :)
Possible eds? {Ed002's Note - Sure, nailed on.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And then I wake up!

kidding aside:

any one from Lamela, Konoplyanka or Yarmolenko would be great.

not sure if Sakho would be given the amount of playing time he wants with us

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 19:17:11
Willian to Chelsea could work out well,

I would hope BR tries for MATA. I think he would bring goals and guile and we could potentially get him for 20m

Also if RM want Suarez, let's ask for Di maria plus 20m.

A possibility? Imagine Mata and Di Maria for Suarez and 20m banked. {Ed002's Note - You are living in a dream world.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If we got Di Maria and £20m for Suarez and bought Mata for £20m. How would we have Mata, Di Maria and £20m banked for Suarez?

Agree0 Disagree0

When you mentioned Mata I was smiling, when you mentioned Di Maria I laughed, but when you said we're going to bank 20M after that, my jaws just dropped out of my mouth!

Agree0 Disagree0

I really feel for Coates, according to BR he was going to have game time this season and was expected to be main cover but this injury might even ruin his chances of playing for uruguay in the world cup.
The moment Kelly comes back this happens.
ACL(Anterior cruciate ligament) - 6 months out

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think he meant loan out for game time if not sold.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he meant game time at another club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great article on John Barnes on LFC website, well worth a read. He was my favourite player after the King retired.
Shame about Coates

Agree0 Disagree0

Coates is to slow, weak in the tackle, has no spring, no leadership skills and his positional play is woefull, and will never make it at Liverpool. has the frame to be a sammi hyppia type of player but lacks everything a good center half needs. he was the last player to be shipped out with the other rubbish we've sold. just allen, henderson, borini, assaidi and enrique with 1 season to prove their worth. i'm undecided with assaidi andborini?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he was saying that it was world cup year and he should be playing more often, even though if it were not for us, on loan or possibly sold.

just a quick one for the eds or anyone else, with this years winner of the europa league getting a place in the champions league, will that count as one of the prem places, or is it extra?

could we only have two vacant places to qualify from the prem by the end of the season? {Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the Premier League. It is not this season's competition but will start from the 15-16 season. If an English club were to win next season's EL but not finish in a CL place, then there will be an extra place. If English clubs were to win the CL and the EL but both outside the top four, then the fourth placed team would drop out - so top three and two winners.}

Hi eds
Just wondering about centr back options after the statement from Rodgers today. I see he was talking about experience and possibly loaning out wisdom. If he wants more experience than wisdom and Coates would this make ilori an option? I must admit I don't know a lot about him and was wondering if he has the experience that Rodgers is looking for or if he would more be looking to papa/alderweid/sakho for the experienced centre back role.
Could be good to loan out wisdom as Kelly is good rb cover and would have skrtel, toure, agger and new cb for centre back position
Cheers {Ed002's Note - There remains interest in Ilori. I would advise, yet again, not to hang off the words of the tubby one. They are like Bob Dylan songs - sometimes there is hidden meaning, but most of the time they mean nothing at all.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Right, so you believe the only message is that we are in the market for a centre back and to ignore the rest of the comments?
Really think a quality centre back in and wisdom out on loan would be a perfect bit of business

Hi eds/ reds
This is not transfer relevant, but I'm attending my first match at anfield on Tuesday v notts county, sitting lower centenary and have a few questions.
1. Where is the best and safest place to park my car?I don't mind walking (max 10 -15minutes ) and I do t mind paying, but want it to be in a safe area.
2. Is the area where I'm sitting good?
3.what's the atmosphere like at league cup matches?
Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nowhere is safe!

It depends what seat number you have - odd numbers a very uncomfortable but the even number rant bolted down that well.

There is atmosphere in cup games, it's not allowed as the Anfield resident have to get up early the next day.

You should have asked before buying a ticket.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bus it in to Anfield. Then walk to the ground with the crowd. Have a pint in a local. There are two goods one close by. Soak up the atmosphere before the game it's part of it. Plenty of banter in the pubs and history.
Always good inside cup league pre season whatever
They'll be a small pocket in the corner of away fans and I'd they've got good voice we'll no doubt applaud. It can be right friendly when it's against a small team

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't park within spitting distance to the ground like I did the 1st time I visited its a nightmare to get out, park a good 10 minute walk away I've never ever had any trouble with my vehicle being touched(BMW X5).

Agree0 Disagree0

Park at Goodison (safe and secure!) and stroll across Stanley Park. Easier for getting away afterwards and you'll have all your wheels still!

Park at the Asda. About a 20 min walk.

23 Aug 2013 09:24:28
There is a school (primary I think) literally right next to goodison Park. Its a 15 minute walk from Anfield maximum. You just cut through Stanley park and come out behind Anfield. You do have to cross a 6 lane (if my memory serves me correctly) road mind. The school grounds are opened every match day and when full they lock the gates meaning your X5 is 100% secure. Best to get there about an hour or two before kick off. If you are very early, there's a pretty decent pub about 50 yards from the stadium. I forget the name every time. You can sneak in a cheeky pint (not to be confused with a cheeky bid) The school gates stay closed until full time though so if we are losing 8-0 with half an hour to go, don't walk out!

PS I'll be pretty peed off if Lamela goes to Spurs, don't really mind that we missed out on Willian, but I think Lamela is class and will do really well in the prem. {Ed002's Note - (a) I am still expecting a bid for Suarez. Hi Eds & all

Good news on Aly signing should be a strong addition to the squad.

Not sure what the EDs think but I just want to say that I for one am glad that the club is not spending 25-30 mil just for the sake of it .I am glad that we are not being held to ransom by agents etc and have a limit.Yes its frustrating but short term thinking financially has almost destroyed this club not too long ago.I hope that the days of spending 35mil panic buying are done .

The club has said all along that there is money available if the right player becomes available. The right player means a player that will add to the squad and usually have a decent resale value .

I don't mind the club living within its means, we have short memories, the club is still loosing money albeit performing much better financially .The last thing I want is the club to throw money away like we did with Commoli & KD .

Things have changed and there will be no easy way back to the top people . I believe the ONLY way we could make it back to the top is by building the club from the bottom up and that takes more than money.

We will probably never have the money City do, the attendance united have or a suggar daddy like Chelski . So we should stop thinking like them and simply looking to to the easy option of spending our way back (not going to happen)

We should try and be more patient and realistic, for long as we keep improving we will be back at the top .

Keep the Faith

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with everything you say my friend it's great to see the academy looking so strong and a long term goal in place to develop these talents. Hopefully they will lead us back to the top takes time but it can be done without splashing cash around taking already established stars

Stop all this Spurs envy. Who in our team would any of their new signings displace? I'd prefer Sturridge to Soldado any day, Lucas over Paulinho, Gerrard over Caboue, and was never that sold on Willian. Plus, we have Coutinho, they don't. If Suarez is still about, they have nobody in his league. Stop drooling just because they are spending big, and appreciate what we already have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I totally agree, which other top C Lge teams were chasing these players?
I'm sure they're good players in their own right but Paulinho has never played out side of S America to my knowledge, also what effect on the team e.g. Dembele will these signings have?
Full backs and strikers are where Spurs need major surgery to really push on {Ed002's Note - If allowed to play in his preferred position, Paulinho is expected to do very well indeed.}

Liverpool are hopeful of pulling off the signing of defender Mamadou Sakho after he told PSG he is desperate to move to Anfield this summer.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to add another centre back to his squad before the transfer window shuts on September 2, and Sakho is a key target.

The Reds have already approached PSG to discuss a deal, but their opening offer of £8million was rejected, with the French club speaking to other clubs about the player.

However, Sakho has made it clear to PSG this week that Liverpool is the only club he is interested in joining, and had ordered them to let him move to Merseyside.

Sakho currently scoops around £60,000-a-week at PSG, which is topped up further with large performance related bonuses.

It's a giant salary that Liverpool would be uncomfortable with paying, but Sakho is believed to be so keen to make the move, he would be consider lowering it.

No excuses now FSG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

£8m bid for Sakho is just disrespectful even if they were just testing waters.

Hi eds

Just watched Rodgers press con.

He seemed a bit low a down when taking about transfers. Do u think he realized that we just can't bring in these 20+m willian, costa type of players? Bit disappointing I think, because if we could find a top left sided player we could have really pushed on! Judging by his attitude, I think it's safe to say we won't be seeing a top attacker bought in now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not seen the interview yet, but what gets me is if the owners are lying to Rodgers about funds, would he still off bought the players he did.

Last summer he really wanted Dempsey and sigurdsson, but would he off bought borini knowing he wasn't going to get anymore money?

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems like all the body language experts are back on

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact the owners aren't releasing the funds is absolutely disgusting. They've had huge increases in revenues from TV rights but haven't spent a penny so far this transfer window (speaking in net terms).

Get your wallets out or sell up- there are plenty of better options than you anyway FSG. We're being left behind at the moment and the worst thing is that BR is identifying the right targets, they want to come to us, but owners won't sanction the move. DISGRACE

{Ed002's Note - This is one of the reasons we used to try to avoid discussing finances. (a) The TV money has not been given to the clubs at this time. (b) The spending this summer taking account of all money received and money spent related to the transfers leaves the club in the black still. (c) The owner's wallets have been open continuously since the took over the club - to the tune of about £1M per week. (d) Why not share these "better options" you mention - Kenny Huang is it?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Bottom line is the squad is now quite fragile again and if we get a few injuries our form will suffer. A 'big' signing was talked about but so far it has failed to materialise - if we lose Suarez and only end up bringing in another centre back then you can chalk this window up as an abject failure and certainly not one that makes a Champions League spot likely.

The big question is were the owners ever really committed to bringing in a player with a hefty transfer fee? Only they know but the sub-par bids for Mickey and Willian tell there own story.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also he didn't mention 1 thing about an attacking signing either. Just said we shouldn't get down about loosing willian!

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe the penny has dropped, e.g. no RM interest in saurez = no money for transfers, put that in your pipe and smoke it brenda

Agree0 Disagree0

So because we did not waste our money on a mercenary and an agent who tried to jam us up for 5m means we have no money? Big joke, really. But we had money for the complicated deal for HM and Costa (we even triggered his release clause by all accounts). No problems there, right? You need to choose what side of your conspiracy you`re on.

Hello eds i'd just like to ask a question of opinion if anyone is willing to answer please do. I'm just wondering if people think we'll be able to sign 2 players before the window closes cause its clear we need a CB and a Winger. At the moment there doesn't seem to be that many options for either of those positions either because they aren't quality or simply not worth the money the club is willing to spend so my question is do you think we can sign a winger and CB before the window closes? or do you think its more likely we see a CB and that's all. I can't be the only one to have noticed we have got rid of 4 midfielders this summer, and brought in none, which leaves us with only 7. (Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Coutinho, Henderson, Sterling and Ibe). Getting a bit thread bare.

So eds, who is our most realistic midfield target?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Remember Luis Alberto?

Agree0 Disagree0

Spearing left, nobody cares.
Shelvey left, replaced with Alberto.
Coady has gone on loan, needs experience.
If you think you know how to run Lfc better than Rodgers, apply for the job?

Agree0 Disagree0

We only play 3 or 4 and have 7 to choose from. Not threadbare just yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alberto can play their.

Agree0 Disagree0

How many do you want?

Agree0 Disagree0

We typically only play with 3 midfielders at a time so I'd say Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Coutinho, and Alberto is pretty sufficient coverage. Technically Pacheco is still around as well who can play CAM.

Agree0 Disagree0

37 midfielders obviously. That will show the other clubs, we are LFC

In regards to Rodgers coming out and saying we are in for another centre back after Coates injury. He talked about getting someone in with experience to support the group and possibly letting Wisdom go on loan to get some game time. Looking at the amount of experience Llori, which is probably less than Wisdom, surely this means he isn't the top target for cb and if so are we looking at Papadopoulos again or someone else, as he might be deemed too expensive and injury prone? {Ed002's Note - Ashley Williams? Was thinking willian and lamela in and assaidi and suarez out would have been ok. Given the stance on illori, cissoko on loan, I'm thinking money may be a bit tight at the moment. And to be realistic no European income.
My worry is we have left downing go and assaidi will probably leave ( not given a chance anyway ). Suarez will leave, he'll end up getting another long ban if we keep him to force a move.
After the Dempsey situation I hope we get this right ( remember BR was going to let Henderson go in that deal to ). Come on Reds find the cash, get them in and get rid of future trouble.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really feel this window could have been a lot better if we had started acting a little bit earlier. After missing out on Mkhitryan it was kind of like we went into hibernation.

Firstly, feel the Luis Alberto money could be better spent on Fernando Reges (the DM). We really didn't need an AM as we had Coutinho, Suso and Texeira. This is the first place we did bad.
Secondly, we should have (still time) gone in head over heals to get Lamela and Konoplyanka especially if the club expected a bid for Suarez from Real Madrid.
Thirdly by now, Skrtel & Coates (had he not been injured) should have been out and we should have brought in Sakho and Illori.
I am happy with Mignolet, Aspas, Toure and Cissokho though. People may bark support the club and the players don't bitch etc. but this window has been really disappointing. We could actually have built a top 3 team and have instead created a solid 6th place finishing squad. {Ed002's Note - All just fantasy football to you.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't understand why people are so down on Alberto? His record at Barca B last seasom is far superior to that of say Tello when he played there the year prior. If we had signed Tello last year would you have been so disappointed?

11 goals, 18 assists in 38 matches for a 19 year old kid in Segunda is very, very impressive. Give the kid a chance already.

Agree0 Disagree0

You are getting me wrong RDL. Its not that I don't rate Luis Alberto but just feel watching him play that his best position is AM. And we really didn't need an AM as we had Suso, Texeira and even the young Derby lad coming through from the acadamy who are all as good as him. So do you reckon we should not give them a chance and rather buy a Barca B?
At the same time we have a total of 0 Quality DM's coming through the acadamy so would it not be better for us to buy a player in the position we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gotcha, Navjyot. I think he was more a target of opportunity than anything, but I could be wrong. He was available at a reasonable price, so, while we didn't necessarily need him, went for it anyway. He's also very flexible positionally which is pretty handy. Agreed that having another Coady-type wouldn't break my heart.

Wouldnt it be so good i'd florentino Perez, knowing Spurs have actually spent all the BALE CASH now reduces the Real offer for BALE to around 50m.

Spurs would be stuck knowing they have taken on huge player wages recently and that Bale would be staying unless they accepted the lower offer.

Spurs would not want to keep him now bearing in mind the players they have taken on.

Would be so good if that happened, Levy would be stumped.

I was thinking the same yesterday. If I was in charge at Madrid that's exactly what I would do as well. I would be like yeah you mugged us once before (modric) so here's £30m for bale on deadline day. Take it or leave it, we already have ronaldo and Suarez (hopefully). Levy has a little cry then smashes a window when the bills start coming through. Bale has a little cry and has to change himself on FIFA back to spurs after changing himself to Madrid haha

Agree0 Disagree0

Bottom line is both Spurs and us have good teams with good players. Geez, sounds like my house when the kids are over around here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool and Tottenham are trying to get to the same level using different aproaches.
Tottenham are going to sell their best player and replace him with 3 or 4 players who can improve the squad.
Liverpool are going to keep their best player and try to add to what we already have by being thrifty :)
Who knows which way is best?

Hey Eds, excuse the pessimism but Brendan seemed quite negative during his press conference in regards of getting quality players in.

Ed I was thinking about the Willian situation and had a question. 2 clubs A and B offered to buy a player from club X, however B's offer is lower than A can the player force a move to B if that is were he want's to go? I'm not saying this is the situation with Willian it just got me thinking. I assume the club in that instance would just refuse to sell. {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

If Willian wanted the move to Liverpool, is it just his agents valuation and THEM wanting their player to play in the Champions League that has meant the move didn't happen? How much does the players intent actually matter?

Mike {Ed002's Note - It is what an acceptable fee to his club is.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Eds at this late stage surely William will sign now. I'm hanging onto a hope that we might still be in with a chance, that's wishfull thinking I no but you never know. BR has also just said we are looking at a defender to cover for injured SC. {Ed002's Note - Ilori remains of interest but there is still the difference in valuation.}

Good day Ed's! Maybe I haven't really got it but if Willian really wish to play for Liverpool more than Tottenham is there anything he can do to "force" the matter? {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool fail to make an acceptable bid for the player, no. Is Suarez playing for Arsenal now?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

22 Aug 2013 14:23:44
Do we still have an interest in Tom Ince after our enquiry in January? He could be an alternative to our left wing problem. BR has said he wants someone quick who can score goals which Ince fits, plus he is young, wouldn't be too expensive and would be on lower wages than the likes of Willian.

Nice one RedViking. Don't know why so many are anti Spurs. They are showing us you can be canny and close the gap on the top 4. A top 4 that will change each season for next 5 yrs as opposed to the closed shop when we were in it.like us when they got in it they punched above their weight. Unlike City. Said it before and will say it again. If you have a strategy stick to it. We can't get sucked in to reacting to what others do. So much in football is luck and timing. Cheers lads,

Puzzled Red {Ed030's Note - Assits,Turan would offer Liverpool what we don't really have at the moment,He fits is with Rodgers liking his players to close down after losing the ball and to me seems the perfect "Rodgers player".As a players he's skillful,Loves beating his man,Very good dribbler,Very good on the ball and a decent end product. }

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Similar to Juan Mata?

Agree0 Disagree0

He has everything you would want in a left-sided forward other than lots of pace, although he isn't exactly slow. He easily makes up for it by wriggling past everyone anyway, often just for fun. A joy to watch. Haven't had high hopes at all throughout the close season but this rumour has me dreaming. Couldn't care less about what changes with the CD positions as we're sorted whatever happens. Turan as our final signing would complete and incredible transfer window for Ayre and co.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me better than Mata in every department. I think I am the only one but I actually think Mata is overrated.
I know people will say he was Chelsea's best player last year but I do not think he is the world beater some say he is. His passing is neat and tidy and vision very good. He will not win Ariel battles, tackle well, play a lovely 40 yard ball or IMO dribble past players with ease.

He is very good but Arda I think is much better

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks ed and posters. I appreciate it.

Puzzled Red

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed030, I agree with your summary of him as a player, he's very good. What is your opinion on his goalscoring ability however? If this was a reason some were concerned about Willian, Turan's record seems to be even worse? Surely if he was one of the forward players he'd need to add goals? {Ed030's Note - He doesn't score many goals but he more then makes up for it with the chances he creates. }

i was just wandering is there any interest in a double swoop for city's duo milner and richards? I think they would both provide a lot of depth for the squad with milner capable of playing pretty much anywhere and richards also able to play across the whole back line. it seems to me they are both forgotten at man city and in a world cup year would relish the opportunity of first team football

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And they are English. Would have been nice.

But neither one of them is good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

Richards would be a good signing if his medical showed no problems. Him and Toure is half the City defence that won the title and he'd have a point to prove. Also much more competition for Glen. I'm hoping they're still interested in Skrtel and we could trade.

So ready for this transfer window to end, it's been exhausting. I'm sure much worse for the Eds.

If Liverpool want Willian, and weren't just interested and asking about him, now is the time to act. If they don't think he's worth more than offered, then good. Just hopin we get someone. Watched Arda last night and got to say he looked good on the counter. Also watched Ben Arfa for Newcastle and he looked like the only player who belonged vs City, but still don't think he's what Liverpool needed.

Also hoping we don't sign Hughes. There's really nowhere for him. Except U-21.

Also, just when I thought the Suarez saga was over, Arsenal look at Benzema, which would fund a Suarez purchase for Real. Don't think that'll happen because for one, it's Arsenal, and two, I don't think the owners would let Suarez go this late.

Here's to hoping we finish the window strong and keep stacking up W's.

Would take Sahko and Turan, in a heartbeat. Would be over joyed with the summer window and squad.

Would feel like top four IS possible.

Top players want to come, Turan + Sahko total around £30m (plus fees etc), seems after all the outgoings this should be affordable.

And finally, do you see Ibe and Sterling featuring much this season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unfortunately people don't see it like this. If Ince goes to Newcastle (or similar team) and scores 15 Prem goals, makes the England WC squad and is valued at 20m the cries of we could have bought him or 6-7m and Ayre is an person would be deafening. Likewise if United got Will Hughes for 9m and Moyes said he wants him to be the next Paul Scholes we'd have wailing and gnashing of teeth that we missed out, he was a Liverpool fan and it should have been obvious he's the next big thing. Instead let's spend 20m now on players from foreign countries who are equally not the finished article but feature in silly lists of the 50 hottest teens in global soccer. Les trust he people who do the scouting and place a value to LIVERPOOL on these players.

Moving away from Tottenham planning to rule the world, buying Uranium from dodgy ex-KGB agents and having Messi run MI5, did anyone watch the Chelsea v Villa game last night? What a player Benteke is. How anyone can say he is one dimensional is beyond me. Lovely turn when he collected the ball and a great goal. He showed his crossing too when he collected it just past the half way line and laid a superb ball straight across from Agbonlahor to break, completely split Chelsea's defence open. I can see some top teams scrambling for his signature next year if he carries on playing as well as he has done since his move. Villa put up a great fight last night, I really can see them doing well this season.

Morning eds.
I think I seen on a earlier post that we have interest in young will Hughes, just wondered do you see this as a realistic option before the window closes? Was also wondering if we did manage to cut a deal with derby could you see us loaning him back to them for the rest of season? Personally would like to see us get him & keep him on till at least January & let him train along the likes of Steve & co & see him make some first team appearances, basically get used to lfc plays & how city works. We've seen a lot of players move to Liverpool but not really grasp what changes involved moving from a "smaller" club (no disrespect) to a "bigger" club.
Keep up your hard wrk guys, this site is like a drug, can't get off it. {Ed002's Note - There is certainly interest and a loan back would be sensible.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brilliant player that will defiantly get the goals and with us having £25M+ to spend the fee wouldn't be a problem, only problem I can see is that his best position is the No.9 as main ST which Sturridge is currently occupying, would Sturridge be happy to be pushed out wide. The answer is a resounding NO, do we change out formation to fit in both Damiao & Sturridge probably NO.

Fellow Reds,

I for one, love and had tears in my eyes after the way the lads played, the unity and cohesion on the Stoke game. It really felt like a Cup Final win and if we keep it up, even without Willian and/or some other marquee signing/s, The Reds will dominate and demolish other teams!

Get in, will ya!~!
YNWA!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That's how we should be. Was it Houllier who always said it was about will and skill. So true. We help build the will.

Also when we spent a lot on players people said we would be better for it - but not always true. People thought Carrol was great to start with and Sahin and Downing etc. etc. etc.

Spuds do not have a guarantee. If our will is greater we will be better and finish higher.

Agree0 Disagree0

With reports suggesting Arsenal may be looking to benzema of Madrid I cannot help but think this will result in Luis getting his wish and leaving very late this window.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If Suarez were to go who do we buy, do we go for a player that can play across the front 3/4 in Turan, Lamela, Muriel, Di Maria or Sanchez or do we go for a ST in Michu, Damiao or Benzema.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a tricky one. First of all, our pursuit of Willian was out of the blue and personally I think he was being considered as an extra attacking option alongside Luis. If this were the case, were Luis to leave it would leave the squad short of a top striker and still short of quality on the left wing. Ideally I would prefer to see the money from the Suarez sale used to fund both these positions but considering how late we are in the window and the options left to us I feel we will be better off going for an attacking winger and depending on Borini to provide adequate cover for Sturridge because in terms of actual goalscorers I don't think there is much value out there at this time (in the words of G Nev, ''there's more money than talent right now''.). As for the options available it seems that Turan is the most likely bet although I would love to see Lamela in the red shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the Willan transfer was more about opportunity than anything else, after all who knew that Anzhi would put all their best players up for sale.
If I was FSG I'd take a little a bit of gamble and sign samuel eto, ok he's not young but he is still lightning quick and I'd be amazed if he didn't get 20 league goals in the prem, he'd tear defences like west ham and stoke part with his pace alone.
I also think he could be got for 15 million, of course there is no resale value, but if his goals fire us into europe does that really matter? Also we don't seem to have spent any of our TV money yet ( is it 80m per club?) I think Eto would present good value in an overinflated market with as close to a guarnteed goal return as you can get. Thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't doubt the obvious quality and top flight experience Eto'o has but the guy is on astronomical wages at his current club and I cannot see him being willing to drop them too much at his age. As such he is a non starter.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 10:26:18
Turan, no thanks. Lamela yes please. Doubt we will get another attacking player now though. i'm happy either way.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why? While I agree Lamela is an excellent player, he is also, very close to joining Spurs.

Turan is available for the right price, a price we can afford, is a huge LFC fan, would be willing to come to us as a result and would improve our first team massively. That is if, we get on our bike and try and get him soon before Arsenal does!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry AG but turan just isn't the player for me at the price he's at considering what type of player we are looking for. but I will support anyone who wears the shirt even though I don't think he's the right man. I won't complain either way, would love lamela though I think he fits the bill in my eyes and would be a wonderful asset to both Liverpool and spurs

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Lamela would have been a great signing, but he is not an option now, though we made an inquiry. If Spurs sign him for the reported 30 million Euros, cheaper than Willian, it would be excellent business.

Turan is one of the best available and affordable players we could get, at the right quality IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be happy with either Turan or lamela to be honest. Both good players that will improve us.
If we get Turan it's unlikely he will be pushing for a move elsewhere in a few years. Not sure you can say the same with lamela, but we won't know until he's here I suppose. At least if he did move his value will probably have increased.

Agree0 Disagree0

Turan doesn't have the pace I think lfc are looking for. technically he's more then good enough but still if he signs ill back the club no mstter what

Hey Eds, any ideas as to why we rejected a bid for Skrtel? I thought we wanted to get rid? Plus his sale would certainly fund a purchase of Papa/Sakho wouldn't it? Or was it rejected as the club felt 10mil was too low and are holding out for a higher offer? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - With Coates injured I imagine the club would look to hold on to Skrtel, at least until a replacement arrived. Napoli have taken the hint and have started work on an alternative.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shame because that would have been a fair offer, plus I'm sure skrtle would have liked a move.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have thought Wisdom would take Coates' place in the squad, but we clearly want Ilori.

I cannot see how it would impact Skrtel's position.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see how Coates getting injured makes much difference ed. Both players were top of the list to be moved on this Summer. So unless we can't get the players we were looking to replace Skrtel? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has made little effort aside from Ilori to address this situation so far. My opinion is as stated above. So why do you think Liverpool turned down the offer?}

Can anyone please tell me what this Willian guy has done at 25 years of age to be worth the £30m.

He looks good on YouTube lol.
His manager of all of 2 weeks (former Utd coach Muelensteen) said he's good from his many erm minutes of working with him lol.

Come on guys, LFC are right to not be held to ransom if that's what happened.
Remember Carroll, Downing and Adam incidents -they cost a combined £62m with only £23m recouped after only 2 years.

For the love of god why can't you doom mongers understand?!
Not sure half of you even support LFC to be honest.

Now look at Coutinho and Sturridge, if we had to sell them tomorrow after just 6 months we'd possibly get about £20m for each of them.
I know which policy I'd prefer to follow.
We're in good hands.
I'd like to get Lamela now though, younger and far more potential than Willian.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What has Lamela done to be worth £30m?

Agree0 Disagree0

If you go further down the page and read, you will see an excellent review by "YNWAdam". It's worth a read and all will be clear!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamela is 21 and got 15 goals and 5 assists in Seria A.
It's more like what has Hughes done to worth 10m, I have my doubts about that one, I mean is he any better than Jonjo?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 10:04:17
Honestly I truly hope that the rumor we are in for Will Hughes is a joke- Jonjo was better!
10mil for another over priced, low skilled, head less chicken will be a complete disgrace and will clearly indicate the way LFC are heading.
I just pray that this is nothing more than a cruel joke. {Ed002's Note - As I say, pitiful.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

People like you are why are young English players are in there shell the amount of abuse give to a 20 year old is incredible.

I've not watched will Hughes much but from what I hear he has fabulous awareness and a end product, wheras jonjo missed so many chances and had poor awareness.

10 million is a lot of money but gerrard didn't start out a genius so maybe it could be a steal, plus Barcelona never watched jonjo shelvey lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair Scouse Ben a lot of British players are vastly overated and we have purchased a few stinkers in our day but I certainly wouldn't be abusing a player that hasn't even joined us or showed us what he's about. I agree with the ed! It is pitiful. Oh, also, Gerrard was always going to be a genius from the first game I saw him play. He was a rare British gem. Few and far between. Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you serious mate? Hughes will be a much better player

Agree0 Disagree0

I very much doubt you've bothered to watch Will Hughes play before typing such a pathetic post. And if you bother to read the article - it clearly says £10m rated - nothing about us paying that amount up front.

Agree0 Disagree0

Watched Hughes in the U21 game against Scotland, looks good. Think £10m is way to much, should be around £7m like Shelvey was.

Agree0 Disagree0

Crunch

We bought Shelvey for £1.3 million.

I agree irish rover but for a individual to call names on young player from england is appaling. If he was 20 and called willandinho Hughes Borges from brazil a wonderkid. We would be like omg sign him 35 million he's a genius. But because he is will hughes and plays for derby he's a donkey. I think we have such small faith in our english talent and to think we habe the best set of youngsters around.

If turan is a bigger lfc fan as been claimed then he meets criteria of wanting to play for the shirt. I would rather him than somebody who is just interested in money. Okay he may not be the quickest but is skillful and could play left or right. Although creation of chances not been a problem putting chances away is what's hurt us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So we don't sell Suarez to Arsenal as that would be strengthening "a close rival for top 4 spot". Understandable. However we then, according to Macca, walk away from Willian who wants to join us but costs a few extra million than we wanted to pay, leaving him with the only other viable option to join "a close rival for a top 4 spot" in Spurs. If we spot a player that can add to the team then surely he is worth the extra few million once you start playing silly money. Remember we wouldn't pay the extra few million for Ronaldo all those years ago.

Ed's, we've been linked to a fair few players this summer and anything high profile seems to have gone tits up. Would you suggest we'll just wait till January to strengthen rather than going for our 99th choice target?

{Ed002's Note - The vast majority of the players "linked" with Liverpool has been as the result of people playing their fantasy football manager games or teasing from people on Twitter. I have spent the past nine months explaining the financial situation and what would be happening so that can hardly be a shock to anyone. There will remain a willingness fund and to bring players in at the right price. No one will be planning for transfers in the January window.}

I was just thinking that the club refusing to pay the extra £3m for Willian reminds me of the Dempsey situation last year. When you consider the far larger sum of money we were offering for Willian against Dempsey then surely an extra £3m for a player who wanted to sign for us over Spurs is not too bad. Fair enough if an extra £3m would be doubling a player's valuation but it was only a tenth of what was being asked. If there are other circumstances which meant the transfer fell through then fine but I just thought I'd raise the point and see how people felt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You should have contacted the club and given them the 3million. It's easy to spend other people's money.

Agree0 Disagree0

How do you know it's just a £3 million extra for the player? It could have been anything! It could have been in his agent wanting extra cash for example.

So please, stop with this "similar to Dempsey" situation thing. We didn't think he was worth paying a significant amount over, an amount that would have been closer to our transfer record!

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I have seen it was agent fees £5m that we were not prepared to deal with.

How true it is I do not know, but its nice to see us not being taken to the cleaner regarding agents which used to happen far too often in the past.

Tottenham are being very clever.

Consider this - they are going to build a new stadium which willl tie up funds for several years - ALA Arsenal. So their transfer dealings will be restricted.

They have an opprtunity right now to splash the cash based on Bale moving. This will enable them to create a team that can not only be a consistent top 4 finisher, but actually challenge for the title.

The players they have / will bring in will enable them to bridge the stadium build time, until they have free cash again.

Levy is a wise man it seems.

I think this is also one of the reasons they are paying 'full' asking prices for their targets to make sure they give themselves the required breathing time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I saw him play at Crystal palace last season and he was the best player on the pitch. I really hope we get him but loan him back to Derby because he will only get better playing every week.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will be a great u21 player for us but rossiter will overtake him and will will turn out to be a huge waste of money but we'll only find out in 4 years time! We should be buying players for now, now! We have enough 'potential future stars'

Why are we getting so worked up about Spurs?
They are buying well but all these players are going to take time to Gel. I didn't see anything especially great about them at Palace.
We will bring a couple of good players in to add to those already here and are going to right up their in the top 6.
BR is buying particular players that specifically fit his system. Its not a question about money. Its the sum of all the parts that will make us successful.
Lets face it the mancs squad on paper doesn't look like they could run away with the league last year but the all fitted fergie's style of play. (Aside frim RVP I might add).
So whether its is Papa, Toby, Arda or another player we are after i'm sure it will be move us back to where we want to be.

Also, would just like to say to all the moaners/negative people to get behind the team! We are 1 game into a long season and started in the best possible way.

1 player doesn't make a team. Still a week and half of the transfer window left, so let's get behind whoever comes in. This team is only getting better.

Have a few thoughts I would like to share, I don`t believe there was ever going to be a "marquee" signing as there simply is no money available to make one. The reason I believe this is because last summerwe spent roughly £25 million on Borini and Allen, we then spent another £20 miliion on Coutinho and Sturridge in January. The money spent in January was this summers transfer fund and hence why we have only been able to spend money that has been generated by sales.

Also the 3 "marquee" signings that we have supposedly missed out on, well according to the clubs no formal bid was ever received for any of them from Liverpool. I believe there has been a lot of smoke and mirrors going on this summer to keep us fans happy. Now I know some will say how is missing out on targets keeping us happy but imagine the uproar if we were told 6 weeks ago that the 4 signings we made that was it, cissokho doesn't coun t really as he is a loan signing, which again tells you there is little or no money left because I can't remember the last loan signing we have made.

I hope I am wrong and we do get a couple of quality signings to improve the team.

Just wondering other people views on what I have said?

The problem the club had was Willian's agent wanting £5m - which we were not going to pay.

I am tired of reading all the doomsday negativety about us failing to sign marguee signings. We don`t need to rely on big signing to acheive our objectives, our players only need to gel as a team and play their part and our goals will be acheived.Spending obscene amounts of money will not help if the player does not mix well with the players we have.I am confident we will be in the champions league next season.Lets get behind the team and Brendan Rodgers and push them foreward. If all the fans stand up together and support the team going forward we can push for 3rd or even win the league.I for one don`t fear any team.Which ever player we get and have I will support the team no matter what.

I hear all this stuff about Spurs guaranteed 4th, but does everyone remember they where a one man team last year and that one man is going.
Yes they have bought well, but have they bought too much, all the new additions have to gel.
We have a real world class player, they don't any more. Suarez may be the difference. I hope so

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. Just because half of their team is new, with lots of mysterious sounding foreign names, means jack. I can assure you that the Liverpool fans that are complaining that Spurs have spent £90 odd million and we have spent barely anything are the same people that sat at home crying to their mum and dad that all the other kids had toys that they didn't have, and cried and cried until mummy and daddy finally gave in and bought them what they wanted. They are essentially whingy spoiled fickle fools. Who cares if we don't have a brand new pair of Nike Airs (probably showing my age there!) - we will play them off the park with our Slazenger Green Flash. Spurs are often our bogey team but I bet that we take at least 4 points off them this year.

Instead of looking what other people have got, why not take a look at what we have. A great young and hungry squad who want to work together to win. Who cares what anyone else has, we are LFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs by no means are guaranteed 4th place, but there signings put them in a significantly better position than us. They did what we were suppose to do when we sold Torres, they bought players with the potential to be as good if not even better than Bale with the money they'll get from Bale (If he's sold). That's why I question the people in charge at LFC. We all know who would improve our team but then we end up buying randoms from who knows where while our direct competition purchases the talent we at LFC so desperately desire. I fear this window will determine the fate of LFC for many years to come. unless were purchased by rich oil owners or something drastic like that. Hopefully we get really really good 1st team (not squad) additions before September

Agree0 Disagree0

How much did bale cost spurs? Was he any more a house hold name then countinho, Alberto or yesil? Bet buy the end of the season at least half of spurs new players will be deamed flops on here.

Agree0 Disagree0

Their squad is better than ours however, it was last season and they have again added to it. Arsenal will add to they have to so again we will be behind both even though some are trying to make Aspas and Alberto out to be the new messiah they're good but by no means the signings made are going to win us the extra points we need to leapfrog Arsenal and Spurs

WHY OH WHY!

I don't understand the views of the fans criticising FSG & BR for not paying over inflated price's for players, it is sound business practice to work within a budget and not over spend on unproven EPL players. FSG have obviously thrown money at the squad previously and learnt from their mistake. BR does have funds available to spend but obviously he is looking to bring in specific types of players and will not pay over the odds.

We have improved the squad already with our additions and I am not saying we don't need additional players to further strengthen the squad but I would prefer to work within our budget and trust the club to do their job in bringing in the right players at the right price. We do not need mercenaries here for the money only!

We are not the only club looking to add to the squad and realistically clubs that are in the CL will attract the higher priced players, Point I said higher priced not better players as just because someone costs the earth it does not make them better for our club then say players of the price we paid for Sturridge/Coutinho. We are 1 week in to the season their is a long way to go and over the next few games we will see how far we have come as a squad, Villa proved they are a hard team to beat and then we have the Mancs, let's see where were at after the first month.

My firm belief is we are moving in the right direction but as I have said before this is a long road and fans will have to learn to be patient and trust in the management.

But in my opinion, from the stick in the ground I have highlighted we are heading in a positive direction, with a clear focus on inproving our football club, both on and off the park.
Consistancy(picking up points) in recent seasons has been the playing teams undoing, if we can sort that, we will be there, or there abouts.

I'm happy with the players we've brought in so far, no question. That said, I think we need a CB and a LW to strengthen the first XI, and give us that extra confidence that we can handle any team. I don't think we're quite there yet.

Essentially would like to see a couple of first XI types / gamechangers available on the bench. I'm not sure Borini, Henderson and Allen qualify as that just yet (they may well in the future though).

I could live with the current squad (assuming LS stays and is as effective as last year) but would really feel confident of a top 4 spot with the additions (regardless of anyone else's spending).

I think all we need is a left sided attacking/forward player, defensive midfield cover for lucas, and perhaps another central defender.

Happy with the signings so far, i'm not too bothered about Willian not signing, as good as he is, I only think he would be signed if Suarez left. I think Luis will be staying for another season and then be off. we can then hopefully sign a marquee player next summer. At the moment we have Alan Hansen's favourite words 'strength in depth'.

Providing we stay injury free and are consistent, we can challenge for top 4. Lucas being injured at the start of last season cost us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We need 3 players 2 of them are necessity.

1. a center back.

we need a strong imposing beast of a center back with speed.

right now I actually rate toure as our best cb (he looks too young and fast for his age, ), we need one more here

2. replacement/option for cautinho.

what if coutinho gets a knock? and add to that suarez suspended (he prefers suspension than injury )?
point is without suarez-coutinho all the flair and trickery is gone.

3. up grade on lucas.

instead of going for lamela or turan (wigers) what if a defensive destroyer in the mode of yaya toure-viera is signed? i'm not talking abt signing them but some one like them .

add these three and we have got a strong team.
we have lots of goals in us we need to tighten up the defense.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Aug 2013 09:54:30
I agree with you 12_ka_4 on the first point, but the point of this post is that I think that on Saturday, instead of watching the game, you need to concentrate wholly on Lucas, because that is the only way you'll realize that it isn't a replacement we need to make. Our play sets up around and quite often because of him. He very rarely chooses a wrong option whilst on the ball, but he also rarely gets caught out of position. He hassles and harries in such a way that it slows down opposition counter attacks, allowing our full-backs a chance to get back into position. He can push forward into the attack, or drop back into defense both easily and assuredly. Cover. yes (we don't look anywhere near as solid without him) but replacing? There aren't many out there who could pull that off.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Aug 2013 23:07:17
For those of you saying we have a chance to get 4th because we only play spurs twice a year you miss the point! It's not about those 2 games it's about the other 36 games where we need a squad strong enough to cope. Spurs were ahead of us and now bought 90m worth of players to our 23m. It actually makes it worse that Willian wanted to come to us and we wouldn't pay a extra 5m. If spurs get champions league because of it who's made the better decision! We are fighting for 5th and 6th at best because spurs have gone the extra mile to get the players they want

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So we bid an extra 5m then Spurs top our bid, then what? Where do we stop. I think its sensible that the club have a certain valuation of a player in their heads and stop at that. I mean it was only a few years back we were facing administration.

Agree0 Disagree0

Although I can't deny your point I think it is better to judge Liverpools form with Spurs or any other team from after Christmas. There is no doubt that we were a little light in players before Christmas. The same excuse cannot be used this year of course but Liverpools form post Christmas does give me a small bit of optimism for the coming season. Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Talk about myopic. Let's expand the discussion beyond this summer (which isn't over yet), shall we?

- LFC 13/14 season transfers (to date): £24.4M
- LFC 12/13 season transfers: £59.5M
- LFC 11/12 season transfers: £57.5M
- LFC 10/11 season transfers: £85.8M

Total over last 4 seasons of £227.2M spent on player transfer fees, net spend of £81.4M

- Spurs 13/14 season transfers (to date): £60.6M
- Spurs 12/13 season transfers: £64.5M
- Spurs 11/12 season transfers: £8.3M
- Spurs 10/11 season transfers: £22.9M

Total over last 4 seasons of £156.3M spent on player transfer fees, net spend of £32.8M.

If you include Willian/Lamela at let's say £30M each then they've spent ~£216.3M over the last four seasons and, say they then sell Bale for £80M, with a net spend of ~£12.8M.

So, to recap, LFC spent £227M, net spend of £81M. Spurs spent £216M over the same time frame, net spend of £13M. We've spent more than them over the last 4 seasons and our net spend is much higher than theirs thanks to the support of FSG, yet people complain it's not enough.

It's not the spend that's the issue, it's the quality the money was spent on was simply not there.

Semi-related trivia question just for kicks. From the 4 seasons above, we've only made £1M+ (fees paid vs. what we sold for) on three players that have left (all others have been losses or less than £1M made, more than a dozen people in this category). Guesses who they are?

Meanwhile Spurs somehow managed to buy a player and sell him back to the same club they bought him from for a £2M gain.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have also spent another £30M in agent fees alone in this period in addition to signing on fees (Toure, Cole ...), payments for players leaving (Aquilani, El Zhar, Degen ...) in addition to Solidarity contributions, taxes etc..}

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot being said and made abt spurs spending. yup impressive.

but don't forget they r loosing bale, he's the reason they r at that position for last 2-3 years.

simple fact is, even if they r getting 100miln and bringing in 10 players, not many of them would score 25 goals and dozen assists. are they? not every one of them going to succeed and not every one of them going to play every match they can only field 11 players.

for eg. last year arsenal signed carzola, arteta, podlosky and rest. but barring carzola all the other buys were duds.

now I don't wanna say that every one of them would fail, they have bought class players but still loosing bale is too much of the loss for them.

abt world class players? well avb had many more like them at chevesky but it didn't worked .

we need to look abt our self more.

They sold van persie who'd scored 30 goals for them that season, and then replaced him with Carzola podolski and giroud who each scored 10, replacing the 30 van persie scored. The problem was that if 30 goals from van persie wasn't enough to win them the league, how was the same 30 goals going to do anything for them the next season?

One advantage of a single player getting 30 is he only takes up one spot at a time and I assume wouldn't take as much as three wages. The risk being if he gets injured, there is a big gap where ss if you have three and one gets injured.
