Ed1 mate what has changed in modern footy. Coz they are very few strikers and wingers left mate {Ed001's Note - because nobody wants to play that way any more. It is fashion, wingers are no longer fashionable, so no one uses them.}

What a pile of nonsense - no one uses wingers! Our own manager is a massive user of wingers! I think you are confused.

Gazman

22 Aug 2012 22:16:36
End of my tether, are we likley to sign anyone new!? We clearly need a winger and a forward and a week to go.,,..,

...and just how many signings would it take for you to remain tethered to the earth, mate? 15? 20?
We'd hate for you to float away...

In a space of 30 minutes we signed Suarez and Carroll.

Deadline Day is always active for 95% of clubs and Dempsey if we still want him would be done then if at all.

Plus nobody saw Assaidi so maybe no news shows we are quite.

AKA Sig we were public and Tottenham turned his head with silly money and many more

i think we can all agree that a lack of goals was our major downfall last season and a lack of decent attacking options was a big part of that problem, so why have we let 3 of the few players that got goals for us last season go and only bring in 2 attacking players to replace them, up front we are worse off than last season so if money is tight then the 15mill for allen should have been spent on a striker, you can keep the ball for 90 mins but if you dont take your chances its not much good, hopefully a surprise signing or 2 on the way

pd

Okay but you can have one of the great strikers in the game but if you don't give him proper service then you won't win the silverware that you should.
A prime example of this is Alan Shearer at Newcastle. I don't think that anyone will argue that he is the best striker of the Premier League era, and yet he only won silverware with Blackburn.

After seeing Chelsea turn it around against Reading I would just like to say what an amazing job Di Matteo has done for Chelsea, proving that young managers can succeed at big clubs. Hopefully BR can do the something similar for us.

Keeping the Faith,

MikeyRed92

Certainly helps when your owner is splashing the cash left right and centre.

Wish we had the same spendng power

I'm sure but the countless millions at his disposal helps more than anything, as with Mancini.

Having eden hazard in your team makes your job a lot easier.
kopfiend 1978 ynwa

Amezing job? do u know cost of this team ?

I think given time BR will turn things round,as I've said in an earlier post we have owners who have invested money with purchases and paying off players with big contracts etc,now we have another rebuilding period,another new manager who wants new players to implement a new brand of football , let's be patient give him time and support every player who pulls on that red shirt, we are the best supporters in the world so let's prove it and play our part in getting the greatest club in the world back to the glory days of winning titles and European cups etc, this is the only way our owners will get a return on their investment , by success on the pitch as much as off it commercially!

Of course if you have a midfield worth around £100million alone!

Yeah he has done brilliant but look what players he's been able to bring in top players. Even though he did well with what he had last season. Chelsea have backed him big time this transfer window great young midfield and still reckon they will add cavani or hulk

Yep who'd have thought that a coach who has had the financial backing of di matteo could beat a newly promoted club, no disrespect intended to Reading.
derryred

A hobo coming off the street would be seem
A good manager with the money that the owner of Chelsea is splashing out!

What, did RDM teach Torres how to be clearly offside by a yard and still have the goal count? Reading was hard done by in the game.

Liverpool have spent just as much money as Chelsea in the past few years but chelsa signings are actually good. Weve bought hazard, mata, Oscar, Marin all quality players and your spending the same amount of money on the likes of Carroll, henderson, Adam, borini, Allen, downing who's just a joke, and suarez who is brilliant on the pitch but has a disgracfull personality
TRout

It is very good for him having hundreds of millions of pounds wortth of talent and then getting an offside goal to get ahead in the game.

Just watched fabrice olinga play for malaga- if they can play a lad at 16 in their most important game for ages why cant we try the likes of sterling- it is no point having a youth set up if you dont give them a game

We have jordon ibe

They were cleary stuck for players.
derryred

You have to be careful with young, talented, quick players, look at Owen for example, peaked at 22 and is now scraping round for a club when he should have had a trophy cabinet half the size of his house. I want Sterling to be playing for us until he is the same age as John Barnes was when he left us.

Bit of advice for BR got llorente on FIFA on the vita he awesome and he was cheap! Let's just back the team, manager and see where we are in 9 months. YNWA

I bet you have Messi and Ronaldo in your team as well. Get real!

I bet you had Messi and Ronaldo in that team to.

Football has gone mental, £12 mill for Fletcher, the tail is defo wagging the dog!!!!

Another example of overpriced British players.

Another example of an overpriced British player.

Football alredy Mad my friend Carroll £35m did you forget that ?

And you paid 35 million for Carroll !!

If he had've gone to Real Madrid a few years ago, and not even played a match, you'd all be saying "bargain".

before dismissing jordan rhodes as not good enough go on youtube and look at his goals,i realise they are at a lower level but the type of chances he scores are exactly the type of chance we have been missing over the last season or so,for 6 million definately worth a punt,rob b

Everyone looks good on you tube my friend
GAM

Yep bring in rhodes plus hooper

Totally agree plenty of talent in lower leagues but just because they play at that level there not good enough for some ppl.6m is better than wasting 15-20m on an unproven player from abroad who may not cut it.DORSET RED

Rushie came fromthelower leagues

Rather have Gary Hooper if I had to choose between the two. Although I don't reckon there is much between them to be fair.
Jonson

Its not that simple. in the premiership he will get less space in the box. he will be under more exposure and pressure. he will have less time to pick his spot and of course the top defenders in the premiership are very cunning and sneaky which can lead to him possibly getting bullied easier. Look mate its never that simple.
derryred

Rhodes is NOT a Rodgers type player. Good finisher but brings nothing else to the team.

In the not-too-distant future many clubs will regret not having taken a punt on Rhodes...it's interesting that even though he's affordable and we have serious problems scoring goals that we are not willing to take a chance on him...we must clearly not rate the player

I think Rhodes will be good enough. He certainly shows a good amount of potential. It's just whether it's worth the gamble, i think it would be.

If we sell carrol & agger ( don't want agger to go & get 17-18 mill for carrol an 15-16 mill + a Johnson I think we should sign Diego godin an try and sign llorente/dzeko or A Schlurre ( spelling ) just my opinion may be good may be bad who knows aye lol

Guys,bit of a reality check on all the rumours and inside information from Melwood etc.Most employees at LFC especially those at Melwood sign NDA's as part of contracts of employment.Therefore most of what is posted on here is absolute garbage.Very few are actually told anything as Board members and Managers excluding most of the playing staff and especially those employees such as staff at Melwood no nothing of player approaches.So on that note please refrain from posting stupid recycled gutter press rumours.

If we think of things logically, it's pretty simple.

In ANY large organisation, business, whatever, how often to the 'pawns' have direct communication with board level, CEO level or director level employees? The answer is never, and certainly not to the detail some people post on here - it's utter nonsense.

Wow who'd have thought Gary Cahill would be the reason Chelsea are zoo much better than Liverpool,
reading 2-2.

What are you going on about?

I thought it was the 700 odd million pumped into the team regarding transfers plus the extra 200 million in player wages.

Liverpool have spent more in the past few years but no one wants to come to Liverpool who haven't been in the champions league for 3 years and have an expensive but useless squad bar a couple of players

So it looks likely Sturridge is the next arrival. Not a huge fan of his as i think he is a very greedy player but there is no denying he gets in the box and has an eye to finish. Back in the day we'd call a player like that a goal hanger. Wages needs to be ironed out first though.

Chi-Paul

How does it "look likely" we'll be signing Sturridge ?

lewandowski or Llorente or a player of their ilk is in desperate need. Now I know we may not get these names due to the need for CL football but we need goalscorers (plural).

If we want CL so we can attract the big name players we need Dempsey, Defoe, Nolito, and a lewandowski or Llorente we also need some creativity from midfiled and promote the yougsters (Robinson, Sterling, Suso, Morgan & wisdon).

As BR mentions we have a small squad so even Pacheco may need giving a chance if he wiorks hard.

With a few player still to leave we must be looking at 4 more at least!

More importantly (whoever we buy) when we attack we need 3 or 4 in the box when the shot is fired, to often it from outside the box from the most advanced up the pitch hence a lack of goals.

Eds. Wot u reckon chances of Michael Owen coming back {Ed001's Note - anyone even asking needs help.}

Great response Ed! Why would a fan of Liverpool even contemplate it? He sh*t on the club going to Madrid for next to nothing when he was in his prime. And most recently played for United. He has no ties with Liverpool no longer. Madness even thinking about him returning!

BillShanks

Why would you want him back? he was finished when he was 27.

He is only only way I would have him back in Liverpool is if he is cleaning the muck of the end of the true Liverpool players boots

PhouKa

You mean the same Michael Owen who tweeted how much he loved Man United, 30 minutes after Kenny was sacked ?

Hes a money grabbing, soulless, has been, I dont want him anywhere near our club...EVER !

He was booed every time he touched the ball during Carraghers testimonial, which really says it all.

hes finished ......

no more signings, all our targets want cl football
and told lfc to come back next year if we get cl football, these are not the players we want, we want players that want to play any football for lfc
alonso wants to come back, madrid not willing to do business as they see xabi as integral part of the team, shame rafa never saw what we all saw.
drenthe maybe on cards 2yr deal.

22 Aug 2012 20:45:31
hey guys

i just wanna say 1 thing................

i think lfc will be in trouble this year....DEFENSIVELY this season........
your manager will have you playing so open to spread the play...........and the better teams will pick you off so easily.
(you saw with west brom even with 11 men)

i watch chelsea..and they play similar.......and they will get hurt at the back alot of the time.

but remember........LFC were a top team..when they were COMPACT...AND counter attacked alot....it was hard to break lfc down.

so you will lose your strength.....

just try and notice in your first 10 games......how easy it is to create and score against your team..

ok guys?

no offence here..just mentioning 1 thing.

roland

Seems a bit rash. makes more sense to judge our defense after we have played together for a while. of course there will be hiccups in the first 10!

I think the system relies on Lucas a lot and he had 1 bad game on saturday which left us open but he should be back in form next week.

Hi Roland, no mention here of who you support so we cant pick holes back in any system they play however in any walk of life you sometimes have to take 2 steps backwards then 1 step forward to make progress .
Marco

We never saw it with 11 men so that alone makes your post nonesense! If we had been more clinical we could have been 3 up at half time.

MR EM

With 11 men? You did see the first half didn't you? Gera (great goal) scored against the run of play! The sending off totally changed the game..

BillShanks

I totally agree. West brom should of beat us 4-5 nil. We are to open at the back and really hope we sort it quick. Think we should play a 4.1.2.3 with lucas the dm

Gezza1982

I worry about the way our defence is set up - it is fine when we have possession - the FBs push out to the touchline , the CBs are too far apart from each other leaving a gap for the DM to fill in to help play the ball out but if any of the players slip / get closed down by the opposition / receive a bad pass we are in trouble and the opposition are guaranteed an opportunity on goal

This system takes time and needs good ball players comfortable with ball - worry about Skrtel / Enrique / kelly / Carra in this type of formation all prone to errors

Leam

Well if roland says it, thats it, it's a fact. No point in continuing now, roland says we are going to be easy to score against. Time to give up, no point in going on anymore. roland says we will be in trouble. Thanks roland, won't have to bother watching this season now.

Oh what utter bunkum, i'll never get those fleeting seconds spent reading that drivel back. What a waste.

Presuming that Rodgers is looking at having a fluid front three this season, if Carroll goes that'll leave us with Borini, Assaidi, Suarez and Downing. Ideally a top four team should have two-strong depth in every position, so I'd personally like to see a couple more forwards arrive at the club (wingers or strikers). Not sure why some people are being so negative, there's a chance of top four this season with spurs and Arsenal having problems of their own.

Walt White

Remember Assaidi too. You are right though, we need more depth. I believe that our formation (if not style) will be similar to Uniteds this year. With 2 deep lying midfielders, a creative midfielder and three forwards. But just look at the depth and options they have for the front 3. They have 4 legit strikers in Rooney, RVP, Welbeck and Hernandez. They could play 3 of those 4 at any time and have them be fluid and interchange. Then they also have Nani, Valencia and Young as wingers who can play in the front 3 if they want to stretch the defense wider in certain situations. Obviously Young can also be used as the attacking mid but thats 7 guys for 3 spots.

We simply cannot match that now. As for strikers we really only have Suarez and Borini. For wigers we have Downing and Assaidi. We need to add to this, without any doubt.

almost £30m been used by BR , but did we buy what we missing ?

I don't think so, we missing a top quality goal scorer . money matter ? then BR go for Nene of PSG so many star player there and Nene want to leave. £5m can be done the deal.

red-don

Borini was signed to score the goals. You're giving up on him after one game? Jeeeeez

Mantis

Wasn t nene top scorer in ligue 1 last season, he scored a lot anyway,i d have him

Trust me guys he is a very fast and he just 29. psg have unlimited money they bring all the star now team player is not in starting 11. he want to leave PSG and psg don't let him go free. Borini is still young we need an experiance like Villa , Raul type . nene can do a good job hope the mnagement saw this post.

Hi Ed, do you forsee any possibilities of signing Keisukhe Honda now or in the future? I think he could add flair and creation to our side. Limitations are that he would never be classed as a finisher (probably what's required). Thanks {Ed023's Note - I'm afraid we missed our chance few seasons back}

I actually think Honda could be got cheaper now than ever before ($10m). Almost a year left on his contract, he wants to play in the PL and not abroad (after falied move to Roma), and CSKA Moscow are not in the CL this year. He isn't just searching for a CL football team (like Suarez), and he would fit in with our system perfectly.

RC

Keisuke Honda would be a shrewd buy.
I said it two years ago !

any one think royston drenthe worth a punt could be a rebel with a cause after everton got rid of him . hes a box of tricks and signing him on loan would defo rub the everton noses up.

alan waddle {Ed023's Note - So you would sign a player who would obviously disrupt the dressing room just to annoy Everton? As if they would care..}

More like a rebel without a cause.

hai ed..watching readin laying away to chelsea..

excellent..
they are playing miles better than we played whole last seaosn... {Ed023's Note - Even when we beat Chelsea three times? 2-1, 4-1 and 2-0?}

I'm hearing lots of people slating Kenny about fee for Carroll, but please remember that Kenny said that fee for FT was 15 mill plus whatever they had to pay for Carroll, hence 50 Million. So anything over the 15 Million mark should be great for LFC.

Or we could have keep the money
for the summer transfer window.
Kenny F**ked up.
Stu

If that was the case then credit goes to benitez too..bought torres for 20 mill and sold for 50 mill..he was once bid for 70 mill..but did not sold..
KK used someone else money?????

And then actually...torrest worth 25 mill?
i am sure carool worth only 10 mill for me now and after 10 years..

I know im too sick of it been mentioned. carrolls price was irrevilent as we only stood to make 15m regardless of what we paid for andy

eire red

Atletico sold aguero, and who they got from that money surprise falcais, so stop talkin rubish, if fsg went 4 some 1 better than kenny its shouldve been BENITEZ, i dont think rodgers its any where near dalglish, and far far far away from RAFA THE REDONE.

There is no logic in this statement at all.

FT

Rubbish, Liverpool got fooled by Newcastle. Should have made a 20 mil take it or leave it offer. Bet Newcastle would have took it too. And then signing Downing to supply the bullets...turning a 35 mil disaster into 55mil Armageddon!!! 55million! That would buy almost any player in the world bar three or four obvious superstars! It would have covered Agueros transfer and covered most of his wages. And nobody can deny that if we'd had Aguero last year we'd have strolled into the Champions League. And Kenny would still be in charge.

I love Kenny but looking back, the Carroll deal was insanity. The worst transfers of all time.

Mantis

He in turn was let down by failure to invest in forwards by Rafa. Once Torres left we only had Ngog as our main striker!

Nine days, two in, three out. One by this coming Monday, and one on deadline day.
Leaving: Adam, Carroll & Spearing
Coming In: A. Johnson & Dempsey

Reina
G. Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique
Lucas, Allen
Dempsey, Gerrard, A. Johnson
Suarez

Bench: Jones, Coates, Carra, Shelvey, Hendo, Downing, Borini

We signed assaidi for nothing?

So Assaidi doesn't even make the bench?

Spoons {Ed023's Note - Cup tied}

I would put assaidi instead of downing.

We need a 20 pl goals a season forward. Not a makeshift or any other position. Play in the 18 yard box and score goals. I cant stress that enough! Its all we lack to really make a push. Dempsey, Johnson, Assaidi, Borini etc all good additions, but we still need a quality goal scorer.

The Irish Rover

If that's the case that Assaidi ain't been named due to being cup tied ,why is half the team that's on their and not even traveling been named?? Explain please!!
Bertie

He's cup tied for tomorrow but not the league

Assaidi is cup tied, people are getting upset over nothing.

A trip to Heart of Midlothian should be a doddle. Take in the sights of Edinburgh (..or Glasgow if you're Hans Solo).
Ninety mins of non too challenging football followed by a pleasant journey home.
Even if we lose, a return to Anfield should be a formality.
However, the squad we have chosen looks pretty weak. I don't mind that we're leaving our best players at home and I know Assaidi is cup-tied. However, I wouldn't gamble too heavily on a Liverpool win.....a draw would be a decent result based on the squad.

22 Aug 2012 20:19:40
Overall, I think we have had a decent transfer window. We have bought good players in Borini and Allen, and hopefully Assaidi will produce the goods. But there are still too many question marks surrounding the squad that BR should have answered weeks before the start of the new season.

Firstly, it should have been clear after last season that we need a proven goalscorer. The problem wasn't creating chaces it was converting them. I would have said up to the West Brom game that last season was a one off season, but after witnessing Suarez miss chance after chance those concerns have re-emerged for me. Surely if BR uses this system, then he knows that for it to work you would need either; someone like Messi, or more realisticly, a target man; if you are playing a lone strike role then 9/10 you are going to need to be capable to hold the ball up. At Swansea he had Graham who did a decent job. So the first question is why is Carroll surplus to BR's requirements, despite being the best striker suited to that role? And if he is surplus to his requirements, it seemed BR had already made up his mind about Carroll without working with him, is he still at the club? If you aren't going to play him then sell him and get someone else in. Otherwise what is the point?

Second question would be why are there still players who are surplus to requirements at the club? Adam, Spearing and Cole for me need to be sold. ASAP. Especially Cole and Adam, seeing as we have a tight wage budget and have seven midfielders in the first team alone.

Thirdly, why, when Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy have departed, three proven wingers at this level, hasn't there been any wingers brought in bar Assaidi? Who afterall isn't a proven player at this level. Downing, Cole and Sterling are the only wingers available. Sterling is still nt quite there yet, Downings crap and Cole is clearly injury prone, and could depart the club. Why has one unproven winger replaced 3 proven wingers.

Also, why is Carra still ahead of Coates? Surely a young, Uruguayan international should be ahead of Carra at this stage of his career?

There are a lot of maybe's and potential surrounding our squad. Maybe he could come good, and he has potential, and that's fine. What this team lacks at the moment, ARE CERTAINTIES.

We aren't certain any of the players we have signed will be good, we can only hope they are, as regardless of quality, haven't played at a high level before. We aren't certain who is going to score the majority of our goals this season. And some of you aren't even certain if Liverpool Football Club is still a big club anymore. Therefore, I shall give some of the things I know are certainties;

-We are one of the richest clubs in the world, 8th on Forbes list.
-We are and will always be one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
-BR, Ian Ayre and FSG, need to work together, to bring in two signings that are going to get this team back into the CL. If you have to spend big then do so.
-Another season without CL football could be disastrous for this football club, as according to Forbes list, we went from being the 4th richest club in 2009, to the 8th in 2012.
-We need a goalscorer capable of guaranteeing 15+ goals a season.
-We need an exciting winger capable of scoring and creating goals.
-Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Joe Cole aren't good enough and should be sold immediatly.
-We need competition for Enrique and for Lucas.
-We have signed too many overpriced, overhyped, underperforming British players.

Only when we have certainties back at the club can we be certain of getting back on track, both in the League and in Europe.

Keeping the Faith,

MikeyRed92

Good post mate

Spot on. Unfortunately the whingers will ignore it.
REDditch

For me we need Dempsey and Lisandro Lopez.

Demspey for the fact that a player of his ability can't be obtained for the price we can get him at. Even if we have to fork over £9m. his diversability makes him a good purchase he is more diverse than kuyt and we loved kuyt for that trait.

then second is Lisandro Lopez for the same reason as Clint. we can't get a player of his experience and talent for less plus he is exactly what we need. not someone that will Oust Borini from the team but someone that will push Borini and be around long enough for Borini to grow as a player.

Lopez is clinical, fast, agile and can also play wide therefore won't upset or interfere with Suarez's position within the team.

At the end of the day it's all about having quality alternatives.

and is agger was sold we would have to get a CB replacement and another option for attack as 4 forwards (suarez, borini, downing, assaidi) are not enough.

22 Aug 2012 20:17:17
Why do people persist in ridiculous transfer rumours? I think we may sign one more player, and he will be under 10 million for sure. Rodgers has no money, and has said as such. Personally, I would use this season to give runout for our young players. We won't get fourth, but who could we sign to rescue 4th anyway? It would take 3 or 4 world class players to compete at top 4 and that is not realistic.

My prediction:

We sign Dempsey.

No further activity, unless Carroll decides to leave or Agger goes to City, and then we are only signing lesser replacements. Don't see that as a way forward in the short term. Really wish Carroll had been given another season.

Rodgers tells the press that we have no money for a reason. The reason is to try and stop other clubs putting up prices for the sake of it coz they think we're gonna pay silly money for players.

5gold stars {Ed052's Note - Maybe, but he has soooooo many options}

Got to be bold in the market now ed, cant see current squad making top 4 , need game changers n a finisher , we pretty much have 2 for every position . Where we lack is that someone behind the strikers with that clever ball and a striker , also a classy winger , hopefully the new lad is good as he looks
5 gold stars {Ed052's Note - Assaidi does look good yes. And we will make moves for people - dont worry}

Hi eds. please post this as a lot of my rumours are
not getting through. Anyway I don't have any real info but I think that whichever ed reads this is a massive

The real deal McNeil {Ed052's Note - Haha, YEY}

22 Aug 2012 20:14:50
Hi eds,
Are we keepin our intrest in Diego godin as agger to city cash plus Johnston deal is gonna happen soon and were going cold on Dempsey deal maybe we'll end up with Ramirez instead?and if Adams and Carroll leave tie up more cash for a centre forward like lewandoski he would complament our midfield alot {Ed052's Note - I dont think Dagger will go - so I doubt a new CB will come oin}

22 Aug 2012 20:09:56
Heard saints are close to agreeing terms for Ramirez. If this is true and he is happy to go there; is he really good enough for lfc? And was we really ever chasing him?

Greg {Ed052's Note - No to all question}

What u mean he isnt good enough for lfc? do you see downing as a better player than Ramirez? people dont know how good he is... and he is 21 years old, he will be even better.

I have to agree. Most eds were raving on about him too, so i am surpirsed you say he's not goog enough for LFC?
I do think his talent has been blown out of proportion but he is very good
gareth

23 Aug 2012 11:44:00
at first commenter
why are you comparing ramirez to downing? Downing could be outstanding in the Seria A where the tempo is much slower.
I really don't get it, how often have you watched him play to judge his performances?

For the first time I'm quite happy for us to now start trusting the young talent in our squad. Over the next few years we could really reap the reward that for all the work that Rafa, Pep and Rodolfo did in developing our academy so well.

We need to become a team that use our young players to replace squad players that have left/are leaving the club.

Realistically in 12 moth these players could all step into players shoes.

Adam - Suso
Bellamy - Sterling (already happened)
Spearing - Coady
Carrgher - Sama
Aurelio - Robinson (already happened)

We've also got others like McLaughlin, Ngoo, Texeira, Ibe and young Jerome Sinclair who all have a shot.

Thats potentially millions saved on transfers, wages, legal fee's and everyones favourite agent fee's. Although sadly they still get their share.

We've purchased some bright talent too in Coates, Henderson, Allen, Shelvey, Kelly and Borini (who mostly class as home grown) and we've got a strong build for he future.

We need to be a club that can sustainable manage our Saudi and develop/intergrate youth successfully to then maybe focus on one or two big signings a year rather than mass reshapes.

That's got to be the goal each year, obviously others may leave and things change. But we should settle down into minor changes, just making them where they're 100% needed and not blocking the progress of our future stars.

Wouldn't it be great to have players like Barca have, that we've produced and are wanted by all the top clubs, yet have loyalty for the club that developed them? Producing good players is one thing but with the current batch we could produce world class players and we haven't produced one of those since Gerrard.

It's a long patient wait for these things but ultimately could be the recipe for long term success both on the pitch and off it.

Papa G

Made for a good read . Thanks papa g

Jamesy

Good Post Papa G, I completely agree, but we do need to be competitive this season too! Those players are only loyal to Barca because of reputation not because they taught them their trade (Messi excluded in that)

22 Aug 2012 20:01:18
I have it on good authority that LFC is not interested in buying Adam Johnson, either permanently or on loan. My same source says that unless we sell, we are unable to buy a top striker or midfielder.

22 Aug 2012 19:58:00
Eds, I have used the search button and I regularly review the posts however what I really need is an Eds opinion on the Dempsey thing. I think he would be perfect for us this season

In your opinion is he still a possibility and perhaps we are just haggling over cash or has there never been enough interest in Dempsey to complete a signing?

Puzzled {Ed052's Note - He's still possible, although I personally think gradually decreasing in chance. Others disagree}

22 Aug 2012 19:22:03
Why do people want aj so bad he has a poor attitude, doesn't work hard, barely plays for city(possible fitness issues), supposedly people saying he's a drunk. Downing last season was so unlucky and because of that lacked confidence so I'd prefer to give him another chance this season rather than buy another english flop.

Hakunamatada

I would not say downin was unluky more like uncappable of takin a player on and beating him and playing a decent ball into the box

Don't kid yourself, downing is talented at being awful. at least aj has some class

Hit the post a lot and had no good poacher to finish. I agree he needs to work on pace and creativity to beat a player but hopefully assaidi has what downing lacks

Hakunamatada

Johnson has class but poor attitude and work ethic makes it worthless.

With better finishing downing would have about 12 assists from the first season and you'd all be singing his praises. It wasn't his fault Suarez or Carroll failed to convert his crosses.
You focus too much on statistics when there is really much more to football than that.
Anyone who plays football at any level appreciates this.

According to Forbes lists of most valuable football clubs we rank 8th on the list, most notably ahead of the likes of Man City, Spurs and Inter. Even more notable is that we rose from 9th from the previous year, despite spending 120m on players, we still recieved an annual turnover of 295m. The club has also signed a kit sponser with Warrior Sports which will see the club recieve a further 25m. Not to mention the money we recieve from TV rights, ticket sales, merchandise and other sponsers.

Could be wrong but the club aren't investing any of that money in any new facilities as our facilities are good, and we won't be redeveloping Anfield or building a new stadium any time soon.

So why taking all that into account, are we not able to spend a considerable amount of that on rebuilding the squad to be capable of getting back into the Champions League THIS YEAR. I mean, am I missing something? How can we be cash strapped with a turnover of that magnitude? especially with most of the clubs debts wiped out. Man City proved that they didn't need CL football to attract the best players i.e. Robinho, Tevez etc. They aren't even a richer institution than us - yet. But their owners are were willing to back the club in the transfer market and 4 years later they are Premier League champions.

I'm sorry, but seeing as the team already has a strong defence, and a good nucleus in midfield, surely a fraction of the money we have generated thus far, could be used to sign 1 - a world class striker, and 2 - a potentially world class winger.

We can either wait 3 years and see what happens or we can spend like the other clubs are doing to fix their problems. United miss out on the league. What do they do? They buy RVP. Spurs missing a striker. What do they do? They sign Adebayor. So what are we doing?

Could be missing something crucial but if I am then what is that money being used for? We own our own Stadium and training grounds, so were is it going?

MikeyRed92 {Ed052's Note - WHAT. Really!! The owners are still bankrolling the club to the tune of around £100 million at the minute. They are making huge losses, not stashing money away.}

We are financialy sound eds! This £100 million they spent u keep bringin up wasnt fully funded by our owners! Fact! £57 mill of that alone was funded through the sale of torres £50 mill n babel £7 mill! £25 mill from warrior shirt sponsor, tv rights money, merchandise sales profit, ticket sales need i go on! We are not running at a loss, we just have tight owners who funded at the beginning but now the foots in the door n profits are flying in there just another hicks n gillete! Fact! Sad times ahead!
HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed001's Note - you really have no idea! Fact my backside, you are completely clueless. How much was spent on agent fees? Paying up contracts of the players' sold? How about paying to offload players such as Cole and Aquilani for a season? Did you not even look at the accounts? They clearly showed a huge loss, if you are not too delusional and have the ability to read.}

I know it doesnt mean much but we were in top 6 for 3years from 2007 /2010 and that was dicks and gullet .

Don't keep banging on about players wanting CL so players won't come.Ask yourself why tevez and robinho chose MC over other's when not playing CL football maybe 200k a week may be the answer?.As you may well see NO robinho,No adebayer,bridge etc etc the list goes on CL NO, 200k a week Yes!

Sorry Ed's I didn't want to start a big thing with this I was just curious as to why we were losing money if we are apparently a 'rich' club.

MikeyRed92 {Ed001's Note - because we never kept up when everyone else jumped on the marketing bandwagon. Moores was a *censored* and left us run like an amateur outfit. It will take time to catch up.}

Touch a nerve there eds? ha! Dont care one little bit about our finances! You should take up fishing cus boy do you bite! Lmfao thats for the club to sort out! I just want development on the pitch, grow up if u really think our clubs on a loss! !
HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed001's Note - have you not read the accounts? Obviously not, or you would realise that you are making a complete fool of yourself talking utter drivel. Grow up child. Take your glory seeking self off to support City, because people like you will just turn us into Portsmouth.}

"we still recieved an annual turnover of 295m."

You must be joking me! Or is my understanding of turnover right (same thing as profit?) ed you said we were making losses in notes, little confused :s {Ed001's Note - your understanding is way off, turnover is basically the same as revenue, it is the total income. The club received 295m, but its outgoings were roughly 100m more, so we lost 100m.}

Oh right thanks bit of a fail lol

22 Aug 2012 19:11:07
Ed how many do u think will come and how many will go out.it seems very quit at mo.thanks {Ed052's Note - 2 in, 1 out. Thats my GUESS. No evidence of that - just what I feel.

22 Aug 2012 19:05:01
(eds) a few questions. why is this sahin saga still ongoing is it the modric deal thats holding the move up. although he looks arsenal bound. also am i the only one thinking that all our deals have been done and thats it for summer movement. it would be a pitty as from what i can see walcott looks like he could be prized away from arsenal and also ramirez, they both look as if they can be prized away at a decent price, also could you tell me if its true that huntelaar is available as he wont sign a new contract also i heard that his buy out clause is 17m is this true and why has there been no activity regarding this player {Ed052's Note - Modric I think would be a good guess as to why there is a hold up.}

22 Aug 2012 19:54:49
Is it me or have Liverpool failed to get a decent winger since Steve Mcmanaman, for years we have cried out for decent wingers and yet we fail in the transfer market, I understand players these days cost far too much money than what they are worth, but I feel that for years our scouting network has failed to pick young, fearful players our club has thrived for down the years. I have every faith in Brendan and I hope he has a fair chance to introduce his philosophies. Thoughts on this would be grateful,

Gaz

I said the exact same thing a few days ago Gaz. We have had to endure the likes of Diouf, Kewell, Nunez, Babel etc. That is why I believe getting a top class winger is more important than getting another forward in. I would only get another striker in if we were to sell Carroll. MikeyRed92

Riera was good and so was kewell, they were just both injury prone. I felt Risse did a decent job of the wing, as did Gerrard (when deployed there)

Here it is .......felt like venting my splein.

1) Everybody knows the team needs a major overhaul and when we get a manager trying to do that he is slagged off before the transfer window closes.why?

2) What have Fsg done to deserve all the stick apart from save the club,balance the books and invest large sums into the playing staff?

3)Why all the noise about Sahin ? One good season in Germany.He never wanted to come yet many people slag Fsg for not taking a punt on a player that has publicly stated that would not go.

4) one bad game and the seasons over?....come on .Things are going to be tough this season lets do our bit as fans and get behind the team as we always do. Anyone remember halftime in the Attaturk stadium........

Things are on the up, keep the faith.

PS rant over

1) We need to replace the players we are overhauling. 7 players have gone and only 3 have come in.

2) Yes but they have invested money in the WRONG players. If they knew anything about football then they would know that the more a player costs doesn't mean he's better than someone who costs less.

3) It's not just Sahin it's pretty much every player we have had an interest in that other clubs want to. We just aren't prepared for fighting another club for who we want.

4) And that one bad game highlighted all the problems that still exist from last season. You can't blame them for the three goals but to not even score one and to give up at 2-0 also was worrying.

22 Aug 2012 19:52:03
eds people around here are saying that a number of our scouts are at the Malaga game tonight and i heard a website mentioned spurs but could you see us moving for isco or toulalon due to their financial trouble? Also would love to see Naxto monreal come in to compete with enrique at left back {Ed022's Note - I cannot see either moving to Liverpool at this time, and I don't know about Naxto.}

Obviously spurs' scouts were there if ours were there considering spurs' scouts are us.

22 Aug 2012 19:43:37
How is it that a club like QPR can sign Ricardo Carvalho on loan and we can't even get Sahin on loan? What's is going on? Seriously. {Ed022's Note - QPR are worrying me at this time, as their wage bill is dramatically going up and if they're relegated, they could be in some serious hot water.}

Well said ed how many clubs fall into that trap & it's supporters who tend to suffer Portsmouth leeds derby & forest have had troubles

Seriously? You are taking the mick I assume. Ricardo Carvalho has been a fine player however his best days are behind him. Sahin wants CL I believe, we cant offer it. Or even if he just wanted to go to Arsenal, either way, does it really matter. I see no connection between the the two to be honest. Move on.

Andy K

I completely agree ED022 I was just making the point that they are able to bring in someone of that calabre and we haven't so far, which is worrying.

22 Aug 2012 19:40:24
Hi eds love the site, don't know if this has been asked already but was wondering about the Carroll situation, namely that if he does go which I know is very possible, then who might his replacement be?
I've heard names like Dempsey mentioned but surely a proper striker would need to come in?
Just wondered if you guys could shed some light on this and any strikers we might be interested in?
Cheers

Matt from Bath {Ed022's Note - I believe Dempsey would be the 'replacement' if he hasn't already been sold. However, Ed002 has speculated over possible interest from Liverpool in Lopez and Negredo - both good players in my opinion.}

22 Aug 2012 19:39:07
would be great to get the eds views on Adam Johnson signing and if he thought lewandowski is realistic? Thanks alot, Langatang {Ed022's Note - Lewandowski has been looked at by Liverpool but there are a fair few clubs interest, and I think he's a massive fan of playing in the CL, but not impossible I guess. I would personally take Johnson, if he sorts out his off-field immaturity.}

22 Aug 2012 19:38:19
Some of Benitez's good signings:

Reina
Johnson
Agger
Skrtel
Alonso
Lucas
Torres
Mascherano
Luis Garcia
Kuyt

Once i heard someone saying,"A manager becomes great from good by the signings he makes."

AliGerrard /-

And what about the 70 other signings made by Rafa that were utter Rubbish

Also some awful signings:
Antonio Nunez
Fernando Morientes
Mark González
Ryan Babel
Pennant
Keane
Dossena
Voranin

Rafa won the European Cup for us and built a strong foundation that was destroyed by the two cowboys.
In Rafa we trust, go back to your manc site! {Ed001's Note - no we don't. Some of us have the sense to see he destroyed the same foundations he built.}

Eds can you give us fans some transfer info regarding our club because to be honest we aren't getting any info from this site.

Neil {Ed022's Note - I do apologise that we are not meeting your needs.}

Leave it Neil the eds are doing the best they can

22 Aug 2012 19:27:39
Echo states there is no interest from Liverpool FC in Adam Johnson.

22 Aug 2012 19:10:36
{Ed022's Note - Player Profile on Fernando Llorente has now been updated to fit current events, and contains a brand new structure within 'The Business End of the Profile' which I'd appreciate feedback on if possible. Top striker, and I'm pretty sure most of us Liverpool fans would die to have him at our club. It probably wont happen, but here's a profile anyway! - www.player-profiles.co.uk - cheers all.}

22 Aug 2012 19:03:23
I ecpect 1 or 2 player to leave the club this summer:

adam
carrol
agger
(downing)

Liverpool will buy 2 or 3 player more this summer:

1 striker ( could be everyone )
1/2 winger (a.johnson possible imo some competition would be good for downing )
1 defender ( if agger leaves )

Dont expect star signings the club will buy cheaper and younger players in order to get back into the CL not this year but in the next 3 years

LFCPhil

Half a winger?

Misschinandlerbong

True downing does need competition however I believe even downing can be better then half of adam Johnson I just wanna know which half it will be ??

Don't think we could sign every striker on the planet or half a winger

22 Aug 2012 18:56:59
Hey Ed just a quick question not Liverpool related but just curious, you said Palermo would spend big have they bought anyone yet or are they expecting a busy last few days.
Thanks

KopEndDannyLFC {Ed022's Note - I'm not sure to be honest, I know they've registered an interest with many individuals but nothing more I don't think.}

22 Aug 2012 18:55:21
when individuals and families are experiencing hardship like kevin sheedy, rhys jones' family, muamba, why do people always feel the need to mention how 'footballing rivalries' are set aside as if that has any relevance whatsoever. if wayne rooney was diagnosed with a serious illness i'm sure loads of liverpool fans would send best wishes 'in spite of footballing allegiances'

Of course why empathise with another human being? Not that it is important but Kevin sheedy was a Liverpool player & justice for the 96 & their families. Paisley's genius

If you do not believe that human life is more important than football rivalaries, then maybe you need to have a good hard look at yourself. I really dont like Rooney but I would never wish anything that serious on him. Poor form, sure, cancer, never. Get a grip, champ.

Andy K

22 Aug 2012 18:51:39
quality quality quality we need quality signings not quality street. STRIKER, CDM at CB urgently required or our season is over before it has even began. Walcott Ramirez Dempsey not LFC standard. Brendan oh Brendan where fore art thou Brendan. Are we waiting for the january window?

Quality = money, of which we are lacking at the moment.

Nothing wrong with the purple one. hazelnut and caramel yummmmmmy. Redevon

22 Aug 2012 18:48:24
I keep reading posts that say for FSG to dig deep and spend big but I was watching ssn and I think we are 5 th or 6 th biggest spenders this summer ( so far ) . I understand some peoples concerns regarding players coming in and the quality they are but Allen looked really good in the first half against WBA I think Borini will score us goals and no one has seen Assaidi play apart from on YouTube so let's just wait and see what the next 9 days bring and support the team whatever . Come on YNWA .

Jamesy

We have already spent close to
30 mill this season but people think its back pocket change. I am very happy with FSG.

Mighty reds {Ed052's Note - Thanks, backing up my arguement. Fans need to be more appreciative. }

Well hes a winger so right away im happy not a striker like kuyt nor a centre mid like henderson and not downing either cant be all bad its a real winger

All the moaning about FSG not spending money is a complete load of nonsense.We are the fourth highest spenders in this transfer window so far,and I am sure we dont have the fourth richest owners.
Maybe the problem might be what the money is being spent on and what it was spent on last season,so give the owners a break.

Derek

Hello People. Just wondering what team everyone would like to be put out tomorrow?!
I'm hoping its something like this:

Reina
Kelly Carragher Coates Robinson
Henderson Lucas Shelvey
Cole Borini Sterling

Although I would hope Carragher, Borini and Lucas don't play more than 60minutes because they'll all probably be playing on Sunday

Maybe Wilson, Carroll and Adam/Spearing on for them later!

AZ {Ed022's Note - Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Coates, Robinson, Lucas (CDM), Shelvey and Henderson (Advanced CM), Sterling, Ibe and Assaidi. Hypothetical I know, but that would be my first choice.}

Assaidi, isnt he cuptied already? {Ed022's Note - Oh I completely forgot about that, you're right. Swap him for Suso.}

Agreed Ibe looks a beast physically for someone so young I would love to see him play more.

Hakunamatada

Don't think Skrtel travelled. Agger should play since he's suspended for Sun. Anyone know if Ibe's in the squad?

Kieran {Ed022's Note - I haven't seen the squad in honesty, but I'm pretty sure Agger travelled?}

Ed022 Skertel is in liverpool, assaidi is cup tied ders serious flaws in your team... id go Reina
kelly agger coates robinson

Henderson Lucas Allen

Sterling Carroll Borini {Ed022's Note - I realise that now, but I said it was hypothetical for a reason.}

Ed Assaidi cant play..

BenO' {Ed022's Note - I know, my mistake.}

Ed002 Assaidi is not eligable (spelling) (not allowed to play due to FIFA rules)

Dear ed assaidi is cup tied {Ed052's Note - Dear Poster. yes. Best wishes, Ed}

Spot the error in eds team
Tommy. {Ed052's Note - He knows}

Why the support 5gold? Is it you? If so, f*ck off

I think it has been the biggest over reaction on the site since Ken Aguero on the original joint web site

22 Aug 2012 18:31:29
Eds if there is indeed transfer funds for us,which so called world class strikers can we realistically get or attract? {Ed022's Note - Darius Vassell I hear is an option.}

Aha brliliant

Ha ha I'm a muppet. I even googled his name, knew it sounded familiar. Lol imagine him an heskey up front. Mouthwatering

22 Aug 2012 18:19:03
I think with the squad we have 4-2-3-1 is the best formation.

And I'm sorry - I'd put Gerrard on the right..

Reina

Johnson - Skrtle - Agger - Enrique

Lucas - Allen

Gerrard - Suarez - Assaidi

Borini

I think we need to buy better players for some positions but this would work... Lucas and Allen would be solid! I'd certainly play this against City!

Good formation

I think Brendan Rodgers wants to use Luis Suarez as a 'False 9' with Borini and another getting goals from either side . But we'll see over the course of the season I suppose .

TheScarf

Decent formation. I wouldn't play Assaidi.

Agree with the back 5, Allen and Lucas. Would play Gerrard in front of them 2

Front 3 of Suarez Borini Downing

Boring I know, but they'll get better.

AZ

Could certainly see this working if we do eventually end up signing a winger, as reports suggest. If that was the case I'd put the new winger on the right and play Gerrard behind Suarez with Borini on the bench.

R-LFC

Aha a false 9 brilliant

Swap Gerrard and Suarez around and yes.

Swap Gerrard over with Suarez

Regarding our team's lack of goals...I'd say we have plenty of 'False 9s' hehe

Hi ed's, A lot of people keep saying that Martin Kelly will become a centre back. At his age, do you think he should be playing that position now when others are rested (Hearts game) or does BR, think that right back is his position, if so, how long can he be back up to Johnson without moving on? Also, games can be won from the subs bench, what is the typical BR numbers per position. I think this will determine what players we are still looking to buy/ship out (GK, Def. Mid, Mid,Fwd,Fwd) V's WBA we had an attack minded bench.Thanks!

Paul.S {Ed052's Note - He's a natural centre back. IMO, where ever he plays he's brilliant. My England right back no question.}

I like Kelly quite a lot, but I would love to see him play CB as I never have before but understand that's really what he was in the past.

To be honest, I don't know that he's quite right as a wingback in this sort of system though. He's amazing defensively, so a good right back, but this sort of a system aligns better with players like Glenn Johnson who are more attacking oriented (other reason I'd like to see him as a CB in a game or two).

But ed...he was awful against WBA...is he better than walker???? {Ed052's Note - yes, and he wasn't awful. He was the best defender for Liverpool}

So when will Kelly ever make it as a centre back with Skrtel signing a new contract, (I assume he would play right side of the two). I expect he'll play right back against Hearts, why not rest Skrtel?
How long will Kelly be happy to be a Johnson backup?
Paul.S

Are we going to sell carroll so we can put an offer in for somone who will acutally help sureaz gets some goals are there any teams that are intrested in him i take it spurs wont want him now they have ade

I think we've been trying pretty hard to do so, but it's pretty hard to sell someone when there is limited interest in taking them and/or they don't want to leave. Same situation for Charlie Adam.

I can't understand why someone would want to stay at a club where they are pretty clearly not wanted, so why you would turn down a reasonable move is well beyond me.

22 Aug 2012 18:00:43
Anyone else think that when Modric is sold that it'll really kick off a nail biting last week of the transfer window?

I love this time of year but can't wait for it to be over at the same time!

Tristan {Ed052's Note - It will I should think. The RVP deal might get things moving too}

For the attn of Bosco and others that are unsure of FSG, please see below "Bayern Munich" another club that are self sufficient,perhaps you will see a likeness with what FSG are doing.

Organization and finance

Professional football at Bayern is run by the spin-off organization FC Bayern München AG. AG is short for Aktiengesellschaft, and Bayern is run like a joint stock company, a company whose stock are not listed on the public stock exchange, but is privately owned. 84.1% of FC Bayern München AG is owned by the club, the FC Bayern München e. V. (e. V. is short for Eingetragener Verein, which translates into "Registered Club") and 9.4% by sports goods manufacturer Adidas and 6.5% by automobile company Audi.[73] Adidas acquired its shares in 2002 for €77m. The money was designated to help finance the Allianz Arena.[74] In 2009 Audi paid €90m for their share. The capital will be used to repay the loan for the Allianz Arena quicker than originally planned.[75]

Bayern's main advertising partner and current holder of the jersey rights is Deutsche Telekom.[76] The main supplier of the club is Adidas.[76] The premium partners include Paulaner Brewery, Audi, Coca-Cola, Lufthansa, Samsung and Yingli Solar. As a result of Bayern's finals appearance in the 2012 UEFA Champions League, the club's brand value has reached $786 million USD which is up 59 percent from the previous year. Among European teams this is ahead of Real Madrid's $600 million USD and behind first place Manchester United whose brand is valued at $853 million USD. While other European clubs have mainly marketed to international audiences, Bayern has focused on Germany.[84]

Ed's correct me if i'm wrong,thx {Ed052's Note - It looks OK, but people wont understand!! }

Liverpool are far from self sufficient. Liverpool are being bankrolled by the owners.

Disney!

Go back to the magic kingdom disney you clown, you havent the slightest notion how Liverpool works.

Could be worse SIDNEY, could have been floated on wall street with the owners pocketing half of what was made from the 10% of shares sold eh? and spending the rest on a 29 year old injury prone crock. Also the club losing value on their shares taking a loss on average of £6 per share! concentrate on your own team mate and leave liverpool alone

Ian the red

I don't think we're 'far' from it, Disney. We've improved considerably from last year and the year before. Will be interesting to see the books for this year, but I suspect with the introduction of increased revenue from Warrior and some of the other commercial deals, plus add'l money from Europa, minus a bit off the wage bill, we'll be pretty close to breaking even to maybe a much smaller loss than previous (unless we spend a bunch more in the transfer window remaining, which could skew things). Regardless, we're certainly in much better shape now than we were two or three years ago.

As I recall, you're a ManU supporter- curious of your take on the IPO? I see it as a negative- being a public company listed in America means that the overriding theme at all times is increased revenue, increased margin every quarter. Anything less is a failure to the Street which will lead to the stock price getting crushed and consequently I think will make things difficult for your club.

I think that's pretty obvious Walt but that's the model they're moving towards. Top
trolling as ever though.

AD

Basically steady the ship, stop leaking money left, right and centre and then build the brand i.e. the club.

This is the approach FSG are taking meaning there is no quick fix but more longer term stability and strength

Crazy Horse

Disney, i did not say they was, i said its the way they want to or are heading..

Lee73

No name, the warrior deal adds £13m extra to your revenue. The wage bill would have been reduced slightly IMO with Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi etc off the wage bill. But Suarez', Agger's & Skrtel's improved deals will soon level that out. Then the youth signing professional deals and the extra salaries of Allen & Borini and that other fella. If there was no more ins and outs for the season Liverpool would still be looking at a sizable loss, which FSG will sweep under the carpet. FSG have taken on a massive gamble and they are relying on UCL money. I do not see Liverpool making the top four anytime soon, so how will FSG deal with these losses? They cannot keep paying your losses.

As for the float, it doesn't really effect the club in any way. There is no dividends coming out from the shares and the club's debt will be reduced down to £350m. The float is certainly not a negative thing, the fans would have preferred more of the proceeds to go towards the debt, but debt has still been reduced nonetheless. Reduced debt is good, but we wanted it reduced more. Perhaps the next 25% floated will see the debt all but gone, it doesn't really matter either way as the debt and interest is manageable. Have you see the size of the sponsorships the club is securing?

I didn't come on here to get into a bitching contest, I was just stating the fact that Liverpool are no longer a self sufficient club.

Disney!

Wasn't really trying to get into any sort of a contest, Disney, was a legitimate question of a ManU supporter and was just wondering how you felt about it. Not taking a dig or anything in the slightest. In general, an organization being public, particularly on the NYSE, lends itself to a lot of distractions and other annoyances that otherwise might not be there- just ask Mark Zuckerburg, so was curious of your thoughts on the matter.

Disagree with you a bit on your evaluation of us in that I think the wage bill has gone down more than you think. We were still paying for a lot of Roy's wonderfulness as of our last public revenue statements and that's finally all gone as well as those you mentioned and we finally wrote off the old 'new stadium' plan debt so that's out of the way. Not saying we'll make money this year, but it should be closer than it has been.

Generally agree with you though- FSG will not be able to sustain losses forever so at some point things could get ugly again if it continues. I don't think we're banking on CL revenue at all, really, in fact I would say they're attempting to right size the business model such that we're cash positive (or thereabouts) even without it. The bigger danger is that our current commercial deals only runs for a set number of years and if we can't get back in the CL before they end we may face a tough time replacing that revenue with for like revenue.

Does Sydney have some sort of app that alerts him about every post made on any site that discusses anything related to football finances? Like a moth to flame - constantly beating his head against a concept he can't seem to understand.

FSG know what they are doing, dont you think they have looked at those questions you posted. Before they bought i am sure they looked over the books etc, Yes we are still losing money, but not as much as previous. It will take a couple of years, not an over night fix. Fans just have to be patient, then things will change.
Lee73

Disney or Sidney, do not worry about LFC mate, we are fine. Its City you should be concerned with.. ;)

According to the LFC website, Henderson reckons 11-12 made him a man. Lets hope he now shows us.

Do you need to get married to become a man?

Boot room blarney - hi what do you think of this as a good idea,we could get rid of caroll and spend 15-20 million buying strikers and attacking midfielders for 1 million each from lower leagues around the world and we may find some hidden gems instead of wasting millions on 1 player

22 Aug 2012 17:43:54
eds i posted about a month ago about cazorla (that he would be a good player to sign) but now arsenal have got him he looks very bright and i cant help thinking it was a wasted oppurtunity for rodgers but me question is did lfc ever show any interest in him please post even a yes or no answer thanks

YNWA {Ed052's Note - no}

If i remember correctly we showed interest when Benitez was at the helm..........

We also had interrest in jovetic, lavezzi, and silva..wen benitez was in charge...and thankfull he had immense money by the owners to buy them

22 Aug 2012 17:42:44
Am I the only one who thinks BR should have taken Suarez with him for the Hearts game? It would have been a great chance for him to end his goal drought for us surely? Could have at least brought him on second half.

Also about the Europa League, who thinks it would be a good idead to award the winners of it with a place in the 1st round of the Champions League? The winners of the CL get a place in the group stage, so surely when you have proven yourself in the the Europa League you should be given the chance to prove yourself in the bigger competition. Otherwise what's the point? It's like if the winners of the Championship not getting promoted. That's what they really want not the trophy.

MikeyRed92

I agree Mikey the winners should have a passage to CL football I've said I for ages o keep the cup interesting for all.

Mike S

Why don't they is a better question I think. Because it does seem like this would be an obvious thing to make happen, but it hasn't.

The point is, if you cannot perform in the league, you don't deserve to be in the champions league, and we didn't so stop the wishful thinking

I think if you win the champions league then you should be in it every year regardless.
Like the masters... Your invited back.

Chelsea didn't either but they got in for winning the CL didn't they. Doesn't matter how you get in it as long as you get in it.

Kaka, who has not yet responded to the offer from Liverpool but who runs out of time, still looking for a way out of Real Madrid desperate: Mano Menezes continued on the sidelines of the World pentacampeona has put its presence in Aramaic Brazil 2014 and know that it could only reach it if his game again look like it was something that you can not achieve at Real Madrid because his role in the white template will be residual. The transfer of Cassano to Inter, now closed, could return you to open the door of Milan, the team he wanted to leave, but to do the Rossoneri also know what to do: put a wad of cash in the tray and pray improve its offer to Liverpool and United, if the latter are decided.

Maybe this could be one of those exciting deadline days for us where our targets are waiting till last minute to decide. Whatever happens I think this will be a positive season and as depressing as the west brom result was it was perhaps a good kick up the arse for the fans, players, management and owners. Patience is required this season.

I'm delighted Gaston Ramirez' transfer has been messed up, the chap showed his true colours and got found out that he's only in the game for the money and i for one am glad he's not going to Liverpool. We need players that are gonna put the effort in not these over-rated fools just in it for the money.

Rocky

Spot on!!!
LeeWils

Why is it either or...why can't he be both??...in it for the $$$$ but, also willing to play hard?

I presume you are the same way at your job; I know I am.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be paid as much as possible especially when your career is so short-lived. The only caveat: wear the shirt with pride and play hard. In other words, steal a page from our very own Suarez.

Ramirez would be just the jump start we need so, I hope he does sign on.

For the last time....
.It's....his....greedy....agent!

Gerrard gives everything for the club......for 120k a week.

It's his greedy agent that's the problem.

The difference is Gerrard has earned that 120k a week over his career, this lad wants big money and has proved nothing!! In my job or any job you dont just ask for money and the boss gives it, it has to be earned and thats the way it works IMO... Forget Ramirez, there are players out there that are better and cost way less.

You are the thickest ,hes on the wind up

Surely we must be looking at some last day activity? Its been a disappointing summer for us im not impressed by any of our players so far, they're good squad players but don't stand out for me. Or it could be we just gotta cut our cloth to suit, or Brendan Rodgers can't draw flies?

Eds another observation if i may. What is the Issue with us scoring Goals?

Is it a Player Mentality thing?
Carroll prolific at another club, comes to Liverpool does not score that often.

Charlie Adam prolific at another club, comes to Liverpool and can't even score from a penalty. With Blackpool he could do it with his eyes closed.

Downing "reasonably prolific at another club" doesn't even have the confidence to shoot and attack teams in PL for Liverpool

Suarez even seems to score more for Uruguay than Liverpool and remember his Tally for Ajax. Still believe he is our best player, just that he could be top league goalscorer

Dempsey may come to us and not a score a Goal based on previous signings

Suso should of been in the squad... Eccleston sorry mate but you aint good enough championship standard.... I think if carrols sold that we will see a striker from madrid come in on loan imo

Suso isnt in the squad to play hearts? {Ed052's Note - no}

I'm gutted to hear Suso is not in the squad. Maybe Rodgers is afraid that someone with a good touch, great vision and passing, who is deadly with set pieces might show up some of the other losers who get picked week after week.

I seriously think that Liverpool's problems are are self inflicted. Poor transfer decisions and team selection have been the norm in recent years. Rodgers doesn't appear to be any different. Who have Carra and SG told you to pick against City on Sunday Bren?

redmersey

You would not find any teams in the premier league right now that would not have already played Suso in a proper game in the premier league or FA Cup or Carling Cup...it will not surprise me at all if he decides to leave us

22 Aug 2012 17:10:47
eds is there any chance at all of the owners allowing BR to spend 20m-25m on a world class striker who will get us goals? {Ed052's Note - Well if Carroll is sold yes - but I see remaining monies splint on 2 players. An attacker (win, CAM) and a striker}

22 Aug 2012 17:07:08
Hi Eds.
I honestly don't see much need for new signings now. The lads i believe are class. What i think is that the lads aren't used to the 4-3-3 formation and will probably take a little time longer to build it up. But if there is any signing needed in my opinion, it should be a natural finisher. Suarez has got the flashes but not the finishes. My question is
With so much uncertainities as to who or who not to sign. In your own opinion, which available player can fit the bill? YNWA

what kit will we wear against hearts ? surely all 3 will be quite similar

I thought that when the draw was made, wouldn't surprise me if Warrior produce another 'one off' strip for tomorrow.

Jimbo

Maybe a mix of 2 kits? Like Red and White or red and Black etc.

AG

I doubt Warrior will make a new strip, Hearts might have to change or we'll just wear the black away kit. I saw this problem back when the 3rd kit was released a bit stupid to have the home and 3rd kit so similiar.

Hi Eds, What do you think of Marco Fabian, the mexican.

Think he would be a superb addition as AM.

Good passer, positioning, creativity and an eye for goal.

at around 7 - 9 mill could be an absolute steal. {Ed052's Note - I heard about him earlier. I know nothing on him sorry}

22 Aug 2012 16:52:07
Let's not forget that players who BR has targeted/ is targeting have got to want to come, I am respectful of other posters comments ,but there is no point in saying "another player we've missed out on" everytime a report comes out that someone has signed for another club. We may not have been in for him, the player may have wanted fortunes that we are not prepared to pay anymore , he may want CL football, etc. What we need to be doing is getting behind every player that wears the red shirt,the owners have invested money not just in purchases but also in releasing players on big contracts, they will want a return on that investment and they know that only success on and off the pitch ®aining champions league football will see that happen,let's act like the best supporters in the world that we claim to be and collectively we will with patience see Liverpool fc as a major force in Europe

I'm from South Africa and I've been supporting Liverpool for 15 years, I ca honestly say that regardless of what everybody say about our beloved team, I am proud to call myself a LFC supporter, not a fan, a supporter. I can understand everybodies frustrations, its tough seeing what we've become in recent times but I know Rodgers is the right man to turn this around. He is realistic and so are the owners, even though supporters don't want to hear it, it is a process. We will bask in the glory once again. Just give it time.

Wish we would wrap up signings sooner rather than later though, seems like the gooners and spuds are in for every player we are. And for whatever reason, they seem more attractive? Really?

Would love to see Dempsey and Johnson, maybe Sturridge. Lets see how it goes. Who seems most likely to you? Also, what do you think about Assaidi? Players from the Dutch League seem to adapt well to the EPL. Then again, there are always a few exceptions.

Do you think Holy Comolli thought... Downing had the most crosses at Aston Villa, Carroll is good in the air, lets by them then?

Because if he did, they can pay me half of what he got and I'd do a better job!

Until someone comes on here saying he would do better than you lol

That is exactly what Damien Comolli did , with Jordan Henderson's assist rate form right midfield in his last Sunderland season being decisive in his purchase and selection on the right side of midfield .

Damien Comolli and Kenny Dalglish worked together on the idea and it failed big time .

TheScarf

Why blame comelli ? most of the buy is kenny's choice. he told it in an interview that he choice the player not comelli.

i just want to know what is going on with our great club, its such a shame to see our decline over the last 10 to 15 years or so. My father and brother are both manc fans so as you can imagine i take a lot of stick when will our club be great again and why cant we buy good playersall the players we have bought in the last 5 years are average at best

All players we bought last 5 years are average at best.... gotta laugh {Ed052's Note - Really? Is Suarez average? Is Coates average? Is raheem Sterling average? Is Jordan Ibe, Suso, etc average?? }

Hi Eds

Im so far happy enough with the players we have bought into the club, but can i ask with the likes of adam, spearing, carroll, and other players that are not suited to liverpools new style how are we going to keep up with other teams like Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Man City when we are already so far behind, we have some very promising youngsters, but they need experience, we badly need a striker i believe dempsey is who they want but do you really think that we can honestly compete for top 4 and trophies with the squad for a 2nd season being totally thin or do you think we will sign some new players before the close of the window? ajh316 {Ed001's Note - I would expect us to compete for the top 4 next season, not this.}

I'm sorry b ut 'next season' isn't good enough. This club should always be looking to finish in the top 4.

First of all, I'd like to say Dempsey would be a most welcome addition to the squad. The perfect CF for me. What do you think of Dempsey in this position?

Secondly, I saw we are in a so called battle with Manchester United for the Mexican Hector Herrara. If that's the case we are in for the wrong mexican. I've seen a bit of this team and the star for sure is Marco Fabian. I think he would be a revalation in Rodgers system as AM and could challenge Gerrard for the start. Probably could be bought for 7-10Million. Can you please advise your thoughts on Marco Fabian and the lieklyhood of his availability and price?

I like macro fabian he's a great little player, but I fear that might be the problem. I'm not sure he'd cut it in the EPL, esp in that AM role, where he would need to boss the midfield. I'm sure he'd suit BR's style of play, but he might get kicked about a bit unless he bulked up and worked on his strength. The beauty of Gerrard is he can switch easily between an attacking and defensive role, he will be harder to replace than we think. Id welcome Fabian as a squad player, but I wouldn't have him down as an automatic starter.

Keep waiting for Sky to announce"Sensational news breaking from LFC and two World class forwards have been signed,ahhhhhhhh {Ed052's Note - Haha, dont worry. Even if we sign no one else, we have enough quality for top 4}

Ed052,

Are you joking, or are you dumb?

No chance in hell, we have more crap in the squad than quality..

Bosco {Ed052's Note - There's no point being negative. That just makes everything worse}

No we dont lol.

If you think we do, you are deluded {Ed052's Note - What is the point of being negative. Its destroyed the club in recent years. We no longer have a 12th man. We have gone from having 100% best fans in the world, to the worst, most fickle, ridiculous and abusive ''fans''. If you want the club to do well, then support it, dont criticse it}

At the moment, I don't think we have enough quality for top 4, or strength in depth. We DO need someone who can put the ball in the net. Borini may be the answer, only time will tell.

Haha top 4? With our current squad? Does any one honestly see us getting that with the squads City United Arsenal and Chelsea have?
DAni

Your confident Ed52. I think we can reach top 4 but beating arsenal and spurs, and even newcastle to lesser extent will be really hard. Spurs shave purchased some good signings and will likely get couple more, and arsenal have got a couple of tasty new players too
gareth {Ed052's Note - I dont see the point complaining, saying we have shitty owners, rubbish players, gunna get relegated. Firstly we have quality players, goo owners, manager etc, but how will we do well if we dont support the club we live and breath?}

Just bar Bosclown from this site, everytime I see its name I feel like giving up on this page entirely. Such a {Ed022's Note -

Just hate to see posts of this sort they are nothing short of personic ramblings of a nincompoop who shouldn't even be on this site let alone call themselves a supporter.Good luck LFC for the rest of the season!

Hellos Ed's, if adam johnson was a serious target would it be possible that Man city are holding back the transfer as late as possible to make him unavailable for when they turn up sunday? cheers in advance {Ed052's Note - No, becuase a ''gentlemans'' agreement could be reached}

It's almost a given that if a club loans out a player, there is an agreement that he doesn't play against his own club.

22 Aug 2012 15:11:18
Hi Eds,

I remember probably 6 months back when all the Marco Bueno links were happening that Hector Herrara was also mentioned (I think there may have even been speculation on some kind of pre agreement back then). I didn't know anything about him back then but remembered his name and noticed he did well in the Olympics and now his name has resurfaced in media links.

Do you have any views as to whether there might be something in it? Has the Rodgers regime continued scouting this player (and/or Bueno for that matter). I'm thinking there is a good chance of the link remaining given we would have been scouting the Olympics closely.

Cheers
MD4 {Ed052's Note - Beuno wont come, and I doubt Herrera will either}

United fan in peace, just food for thought....

Liverpool's defense + Man United's Attack...surely a winner!

AND...the best young Spanish goalkeeper in a generation, just a hint not Reina ;)

What you mean the attack with that over rated english shrek look alike and that dutch one timer. You're crazy.

Bit like the United team at the minute, no midfield ;-)

Given that our defence conceded 3 goals on saturday, and United's attack scored 0 goals on Monday, maybe not!

Even after his dreadful showing at the Olympics ? Is that the same Neymar ?

If Dempsey signs do you think the other signing will be targeted as a winger or striker?

I like Dempsey's hunger and determination to play for use but hope he's not the striker targeted but more of a utility man used mostly out wide. What do others think?

Red Rout

I think he scored 20+ goals as a forward that played everywhere across the front line last year and has been a consistently top performer in the EPL over the last 4 years despite being on an average team.
I also think one of main problems for a lot of posters on here is that the FIFA game designers never gave him an accurate player attribute rating.

I think FSG use good amount of money after they take over the team. people may say a huge amount come in from torres and Mescherano sale. but still they never say no for any player our manager want. but too many change of management make things look bad. I personally like kenny but his Huge invest on Carroll , Hendo and Downing return nothing.

Uselee post how do you know they haven't blocked any moves? Your not on the board.

We seem to be constantly linked with average players in positions where we have plenty of cover. Dempsey, although hes a very good player, is at the wrong side of his twenties and at 7-10 mil is over-valued. walcott and johnson im not too sure if they would improve us and sahin looks to be going to arsenal.

my question is, why are we missing out on younger talent, Ki at 6mil as opposed to Dempsey, Thorgan Hazard was a steal at 800k, even Mirallas for 5.5 mil. surely Rogers would see these guys as the long term future of liverpool fc, and if we were ever to sell them, they would have a much better sell on value. personally i would love to keep carroll as i think he has been improving every week and hope agger stays!

Van Persie is the same age and went for 30m euros. Dempsey at 7-10m is not overrvalued at all as he scored more than our 60 million dollar pair combined last year. So one 6th the price for the same amount of goals. Seems farily obvious decision to me to put up the money. Why do you think the most expensive players in the world are attacking mids and strikers...because goals are so crucial...Dempsey scores, you can't argue that

We're not ....assaidi at 3m, has got to be in that bracket....dont be half pint empty

would rather see more of these than Johnson/Ramirez/Dempsey....etc

how long does it take an Assaidi to become a Ramirez, prob 1 good season and a little luck on how the media circus views you! Thats the diff between 3m and 18m.....just look at Cabaye, Tiote...etc

There has to be value out ther.

Despite the owners clear transfer philosophy, regarding purchasing players within a certain age bracket, what do think the likelihood is that we would sign one of; Kaka, Lopez, Huntellar etc, as they seem to be closing in on their thirties?
Personally, it all depends on cost vs length or quality service to the club. If we could loan Kaka, with partial wages supplemented by RM, or Lopez or Huntellar for around 9-10 million, and get one/two really good seasons from them, then maybe their age/cost ratio is more acceptable. There have been many many players between 28 and 33, who have had tremendously successful seasons, and greatly influenced the clubs success.

Provisional squad fo Europa League.
Reina, Jones, Kelly, Agger, Carragher, Coates, Flanagan, Shelvey, Lucas, Adam, Allen, Henderson, Spearing, Downing, Borini, Carroll, Wilson, Robinson, Sterling, Eccleston.

Where is Suso? he deserve a chance

r-r

Where is suso and ngoo? ngoo has been twice the player eccleston has been so far for the u21's in this pre season.

Hes flying back from Spain, hes been on a short break

Starting line up

reina
kelly, carragher, agger, robinson
spearing, henderson
downing, shelvey, sterling
carroll

Missed the last reserve/U21 game must be injured

And morgan too.

Wasnt put in euro squad

Suso is the last year of his contract, right? Anyone know if he could be leaving? Seems a bit odd he hasn't signed a new contract yet. {Ed052's Note - he wont leave. I'm sure a deal will be sorted}

Ill be gutted if coates dont start , same with shelvey

Suso on a short break you say?
you mean he is not happy with game time and is trying to get a move away, one of those breaks?
sounds about right to me.

Hope you're right Ed052 on him signing a new contract eventually, but think it's a bit worrisome he's not really near the first team squad nor invited to play against Hearts.

He's not getting any younger and I can imagine from his perspective he should at least be vying for a first team bench spot at least since he could likely make the bench at a number of other teams in Spain...

22 Aug 2012 15:24:15
Hopefully Rodgers and FSG get the finger out and splash the cash on dempsey and adam johnson , Adam Johnson is a must .. he is deffo the player that could make a huge difference to our attack, suarez ,dempsey and johnson up front , we,d get loads of goals .. dempseys a good player , plus both johnson and dempsey can play left or right midfield or behind the front two they both create and score goals .. Personally id be looking to sign Dempsey ,a johnson and one more off victor moses/scott sinclair/theo wallcott ..

I't switch it the other way around - Dempsey is a must!

hey ed's.
with the assaidi deal been so quiet would it be possible to keep a "big name" deal that quiet?
for example would it be possible to sign a player like (just to use a random top player that hasnt been mentioned) ozil, and keep that deal that quiet?

I just feel that we need a top class attacking midfielder to make our system work and not a lot of rumours mention a silva/modric type player...slightly worried

cheers
zebone {Ed001's Note - it all comes down to the other side in the deal, if it is someone looking for the best possible deal, then they will make sure to leak something to the media to try and bring in other offers. If it is someone who wants to play for us, they will keep their mouth shut and just get the deal done.}

I get the feeling we will have a new signing by the Man City by the end of the weekend. And I don't think it will be Dempsey (yet)

Just a quick note to MR BASRA in regards to his **** TRANSFER NEWS ****. How is it Bilbao who only take players from Spain's Basque region will buy Damiao and Ramirez neither of which are from Basque??

The only SPANISH players that can play for the club have to be from the Basque region, any other nationatlities can play for the team but any players from Spain have to be from the Basque

Mr.Basra?

Athletic Club would NEVER recruit outside Basque country Fact {Ed001's Note - Amorebieta was recruited from Venezuela (I think). His parents are Basques.}

I'm willing to get slated for these predictions, but I am very confident they will come true.

A Johnson Sunderland(loan)
T Walcott signs new contract at Arsenal
D Agger signs new contract
C. Adam to stay at Anfield
A Carrol 1 year loan (Abroad) I think A.C Milan.
S. Sinclair Liverpool 7M
C Dempsey Liverpool 8.5M

We will struggle to bring anybody else in ( other than above mentioned) before 31st August. we will have
to wait till January 2013.
EJ

With that sort of confidence, and those predictions - don't buy a lottery ticket, you've got no chance.
It's not rocket science that Walcott, Adam and Agger will rpobably be right.

I kind of agree. Execpt that I think we will get Walcott instead of Sincliar.

(eds) whats your take on the transfers from now until the date it shuts do you feel anything will happen with our club as it feels no more transfers will be made, also do you think theo walcott would consider a move to liverpool and isnt this sahin deal long drawn out. and what is your take on ramirez

22 Aug 2012 14:50:26
LFC can't afford to get involved in bidding wars and can't attract certain players due to CL ambitions.

Currently, once LFC show their hand, other offers come in worth more money or offering CL and we're being ousted. Agents are also using LFC interest to tout their players to other clubs.

Therefore, BR will be waiting until the last minute to attempt to secure his top targets. Who they actually target (from his shortlist) will ultimately depend on who's left after richer and/or CL clubs are done with their transfers.

BR has to work smartly. He can only target top talent when the players in question no longer have better options to choose from. Sad but true.

Expect one or two very good signings, but only on or around deadline day.

A lot of you may well moan over our performances, but I look at the big picture and when I see the likes of Lucas, Shelvey, Allen, Henderson, Borini, Assaidi, Sterling, all young players on long-term contracts, that, my friends, is the making of a very classy midfield/attack for years to come. I am very confident that with Rodgers personal coaching, we will challenge for years to come.

Singred

That's the spirit, Singred! there are no short term fixes but we're going in the right direction, just need to be patient for a couple of years before we see the kind of results we want...

22 Aug 2012 14:50:02
why is everyone going on bout why we dont sign him or we missed out again? bottom line is we havnt got the money 2 buy top players and what money we got br got 2 spend it wisely n not waste it like kk did i wud rather liverpool to run proply n spend what we can than be in debt again n end up like rangers. how people go on bout signings n want br 2 spend money on big names just so we can be in debt again? br need time 2 build a squad capable of competing with man u chelsea n man city.it took fergy years 2get his team how he wanted them 2 play n nearly got the sack so lets get behind br n the lads like true lfc fans ynwa

I personally don't think the money is a problem - it's getting people to come without Champions League that's the problem, which to me is abhorrent.
I've never been a fan of the CL, preferred the old European Cup competition - it was about football, not money - last year the Europa competition provided better entertainment football wise.

The worries & negativity surrounding the club continues as we once again is 8 days away from the end of very disappointing Transfer window.

With last years disappointment behind, very sad that there is no real effort form FSG to stabilize the situation and to strengthen the team.

So far the players sold have not been replace by anyone better, Talking about quality we loose in MAXI, Bellamy & Kuyt who was always was reliable when on the pitch, Maxi and Bellers being very much productive in fact our best attacking players after Suarez.

We were not bale to get most of our priority targets, missed out on Sahin, Tello, Affelay, and probably is missing out on Clint Dempsey.

Also no success in getting rid of the deadwood at the club, the likes of Cole, Spearing & Adam.

While at other side of Atlantic FSG splashes over 100M for one baseball player, BR is looking out for left overs and cast offs of other clubs. A real shame a club of Liverpool's status has no cash to get even 10M rated player.

It is not fair to say LFC should compete financially with the likes of City, Chelsea and UTD. But LFC should be financially strong enough to compete with the likes of Spurs and Newcastle.

Got a great manger in BR but with the fact that very little financial support from the owners means the futures not bright enough.

The scenario would be BR Getting the sack before Christmas or LFC finishing a record low. I don't think the TOP players would last for another season if it happens no matter they sign new contracts or not.

Believe me we would loose the likes of Suarez, Pepe, Lucas, Agger and Skirts to UCL clubs if we don't do enough this season.

FGS's ideas would not work, need a real push of cash to reach the UCL from then on they can start implementing what ever they call money ball, what ever.

Henry says he prefer Arsenal model, I say hell no, look at Arsenal selling their best players for every new season, without a trophy for 7 years.

The idea of self sufficient successful clubs is a pure fantasy, it won't happen in real world may be in couple of years time when we play in League One or Sunday League. Money ball would be in place.

I would continue to criticize FSG until they proves me wrong. And the kind words of fellow reds are very much appreciated.

How Sad, would be lucky to achieve last season's 8th place finish this season.

Bosco

Okay bosco, the only other way to go is , get new owners like city etc , or as you seem to think give up after one game, run up the white flag, or as most fans think- back br , give him and the team time and support them , you never know mate, we might just be fine this season.............lfc

Sometimes a little faith and support is whats needed Bosco. Support the manager and FSG. If they fail, then criticise. But you have to give them a little time to implement their ideas and strategy. I hate to bring up the Man City example again but the sheiks millions have taken his summer 2009 to get them where they are now. The first 2 years got them 5th, then third and an FA cup.
8 days of the new managers first transfer window left, one game in, and you seem to know better what the clubs plans are....

BigBadBen

Only one question after such a long post - how do you know there is no money available to BR?
Do you believe everything you read in the press? Because if you do I can only assume you believe in the tooth fairy and Father Christmas too.

John B

How many games did Maxi play last year? I love him & Bellers & Dirk but they were all bench players last year apart from Bellers when his knees were ok but couldn't play 3 consequetive games......we have replaced with 2 starters and will wait to see about Assaidi if he gets himself into regular starting position, oh and all of them are young, all internationals too, let's be honest the players that left werent getting any younger......if I have got this right there is another 9 days of the window left......panic not!!!

CoolhandLFC

I do agree with most of what you said but we bought borini for 10 million and we have been unable to get rid of players which we spent a lot of money on ie carrol cole adam downing etc all of which we squandered 100 million

My god Bosco who let you out of your box :D I really don't feel the way you do, i have faith in our club and im not expecting miracles in BR first season but i think we will do well , you need to cheer up mate your always very negative.
i know RTE have forgotten you but most Irish people really thankful for what you give us growing up, what happened to that little red head who was always so cheerful , you need to knock knock open wide and see whats on the other side mate.
RB

IL'd agree with Bosco cos it aint been just one game!-forgotten last season lads?

"The idea of self sufficient successful clubs is a pure fantasy"

So basically you think the owners should just be willing to dump tons of money into the club with no guarantee of a return. I agree this isn't going to happen and yes it will make things a tad difficult, but what is the alternative? Does anyone happen to know a billionaire looking for a football club? If so, have them contact FSG and offer a buy out (£600M or so should do the trick), otherwise quit complaining that our owners are 'skint' as I don't see a line of Forbes 100 types loitering around Anfield with a briefcase of cash.

I understand what you want to happen Bosco, but I can't figure out how you think it would. Where would this money come from? Who is the 'mystery sugar daddy' you think should own the club instead? You may not like the idea of self-sufficient football clubs, but nothing else is realistic for us at this point in time.

Bosco, we hear what your saying mate, but things will get better. Players like Kuyt,Maxi etc are all over 30's. FSG want under 25's pref,ex the likes of Dempsey(cannot see us buying him to be honest)
In a few seasons we will be self sufficient, the likes of Citeh,CFC will be struggling under new rules etc. Look at Bayern Munich,that will be us soon. Keep the faith mate.
Lee73

Can you imagine going for a pint with this Bosco poster? You'd we opening your wrists by the second pint (AND he'd moan about the ale)

Anyway there are good things about not being in champions league or in the top 4 1- we can watch liverpool live on itv 4 and if we miss it +1 . 2-we can buy cheaper players who still like liverpool even though we cant win big trophies and offer them huge wages ,add ons ,bonus's etc. 3- if a player gets injured it dosent matter they are all average anyway . 4- if we get relegated we at least have a chance of a league trophy. 5- if we do well against any of top 4 or win a competition we can smile now because the pressure is off as no one is expecting it . 6- we will never walk alone, to the best team in the world lets get behind them no matter what it maybe a rollercoaster lets show the world and whoever they put in charge we are the best fans in the world

Would you rather watch liverpool live on itv4 in the europa league rather than itv1 in the champions league? confusing me there dude

We should buy 20 players at 1 million each from lower leagues give them a try we might find some real gems and save millions {Ed052's Note - Er, no}

Hi ed ,can you explain no to me as i dont understand why we can waste 35 million on one player and it wouldnt work the other way- confused fan {Ed022's Note - Welcome to football.}

Hi Ed plz reply to this post. I m bit worried about the transfer activity at lfc. I hope lfc will sign a striker winger and Mf. Can u shed any light will liverpool bring any player for these position. Because i dnt think lfc compete for top 4 without signing the players for these position.
Thanx.
Ur response will be much appreciated. {Ed002's Note - Worldwide only six clubs have so far spent more than Liverpool this summer.}

That figure will probably double by the end of the window though.
Skurks

Ed002 - brilliant answer, it's crazy if you are right, because we've spent about 29 million haven't we? I believe we have spent on good quality players.

John B {Ed002's Note - It will change over the coming ten days with much spending to come from clubs.}

The players we have could easily get us top 4, its the system we need to work on... Suarez will get us loads of goals so dont panic, we need 2 more players (a striker and attacking mid.) but we have to get rid of 2 players first IMO (Carroll & Cole) before we get anymore players. I think we could get Daniel Sturridge if we pushed Chelsea to sell, Adam Johnson isn't great, i think he'll join Sunderland anyway... I'd be happy with Sturridge and Demba Ba/Clint Dempsey joining us cos i think they can improve the squad.

not sure if common knowlegde but cut and posted from yahoo
Liverpool have left Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, Martin Skrtel and Glen Johnson on Merseyside for Thursday night's Europa League play-off first leg at Hearts.

Gareth

It seems to be a positive move as many of the youngsters will be given an oppurtunity.

We need (and deserve) a huge response in the Hearts game - and I think those players should have been given the opportunity to provide it!

22 Aug 2012 14:32:09
Hi Ed's
Can u tell me if we don't sell anybody. Is there a chance of 1 or 2 players signing or does it soley depend on who we sell? {Ed002's Note - It need not be a dependency but I expect one o two to leave still.}

22 Aug 2012 14:29:27
Anyone else think after Sat and the lack of cohesion and fitness trying to bring in a new way of playing and integrate new players it may have been an idea to play our best side against Hearts to give them an extra 60+ mins to gel and sub the big names rather than not take them at all?
Otherwise I can't see how a few more days of training with no competitive action is going prepare our best players and the rest of the team for City. Also I would think the best time to rest players is when the team generally know what they are doing and the squad players know their roles when they step up, atm the 1st team don't fully understand their role in the team.

Simon

Yeah, im voting for you as manager,BR obviously doesn't know what hes doing and Liverpool are doomed,doomed i tell you.....

CarnloughRED

This would be redtastic news but i can't see it happening! he will rot at stamford bridge before moving new LA Galaxy in 3 years

I think this has to be the most unbelievable rumour ever. Chelsea dont need cash , Torres does not ever want to come back and do we have enough money ....nooooooooooooooooo!

Wait a minute ,is that not what king kenny wanted to do .but fsg rocked the boat ,he won't be coming back I'm afraid.

Would be a good move but chavski would never sell him back and i doubt he would come back anyway sturridge will be going before him think he will prob go back to espania he likes to see the sunshine everyday

So Brendan Rodgers returns to his native Scotland, as LFC make the long trip north to Glasgow to play Hearts in the Europa Group qualifier. Yet he shows total disregard for this competition by leaving Gerrard, Johnston, Suarez, Spearing and Cole at home. We need to take all competitions seriously and I feel this is like a personal slap in the face. I hope the Scot shows the cunning and guile of the Scotch in the his transfer dealings as FsG dont seem willing or able to provide funds. He will need to look in the bargin drawer and be a wheeler dealer.

Failure to deliver top 5 good be goodnight venice for the goffer.

Yeah it's thanks to the current owners that this never happened!!

Nahit would have been great fun comingup from the conference, div 3 champions , then div 2, then the championship then backinto the big tiime

what a cool rollercoaster that would have been

Dont even want to think about it.

Why is Jordan Rhodes not interesting Livepool? the lad scores for fun, always in the right place at the right time and will be a reasonable fee. love the site!

22 Aug 2012 14:09:17
Ed please can you post this I am tired of hearing people saying we should splash the cash ,we did that last year on Downing Henderson and Carol total cost £75 mil .I would be happier if we didnt spend another penny and kept our money for specific targets rather than buy players just to keep people on sites like this happy we all knew this would be a long job for BR I just thought that Long was 2-3 years not 1 week into the season or we could go back to Hicks and Gillette

22 Aug 2012 14:08:59
Has Sahin gone to arsenal? {Ed002's Note - Subject to details and paperwork.}

Is ther still the slightest chance he would come now ed if Wenger is looking at alternatives?

Never really think of LFC as a club that spends big money on world class players

With exception of Torres / Suarez / Johnson the rest of our signings are more bagged for their future potential

The other players where we spent in the region of £20m and we thought they were at the top of their game have let us down or we have let them down - keane / aqualani / Carroll / downing

Prefer our traditional method of bringing in our own youth players Gerrard/Fowler/Owen etc or uncovering hidden gems like Alsonso (and then selling them at a profit)

Never really a fan of the transfer policy under Houiller and Benitez where we bought 10-12 mediocre players for £5-10m hoping one would be the star

Then again we can never be like city / utd / Chelsea and spend £20m+ on every startin XI position

Leam

Johnson world class? LOL

22 Aug 2012 14:07:45
im getting frustrated soo many good players available and we get nothing.. kmt

Look at the squad we have... We have Gerrard, Lucas and Joe Allen that will play 90+% of the league games together, Suarez will start almost every game so that leaves, for me that leaves 2 attacking positions up for grabs, a striker and attacking midfielder... We have Downing, Carroll, Borini, Shelvey, Raheem Sterling, Joe Cole & Assaidi as options... For me i think we have too many players, Sahin will not join because of this reason and we dont have CL football, the only chance we'll get him is if we guarantee him playing time which means we'll have to get rid of a couple of players (Carroll & Downing/Joe Cole), then next season Sahin will go back to Real so i dont see the point of that transfer... I'd love Keisuke Honda to join instead, i think he'd fit into the team perfectly and may be available.

Rocky

Yeay for honda

I can see the headline now 'honda DRIVES thru man u's midfield to win it for liverpool.

Lil Red

22 Aug 2012 14:04:51
liverpools defence is poor atm they need to fix up and brendon has to start assaidi instead of downing in my opinion assaidi has more pace more agility and a better shot rodgers needs to give him a chance quite often

He might when he is available

Defence was poor for one game. seriously have you all forgotten how the defence did last year.

Neither Assaidi nor Downing are defenders.

22 Aug 2012 13:57:03
Ed, What is your opinion on Royston Drenthe?

I believe he is on a free at the moment... Any chance of Liverpool looking into the matter? {Ed002's Note - I expect he will go to West Ham.}

Could be going to ac milan instead.

red jay

Half desent talent, terrible attitude.

Hes on a free and we arnt even interested? got to laugh. {Ed001's Note - yes, at anyone stupid enough to want that waster to sign for us!}

Rather have drenthe than adam johnson any day

22 Aug 2012 13:55:22
carroll will not be sold. he will stay and fight for his place. no one will offer what lfc want. plus he wants to stay. i think we need to keep him myself.

22 Aug 2012 13:54:23
I feel Adam Johnson will be a waste. I'd rather promote Raheem and spend £10m on a striker.
And, WHY do our managers persist on playing people out of position?! It not difficult to play a LB at LB and a striker in the middle instead of on ebb wing! It's mental

Playing people out of position has been a Liverpool disease for years - highlighted by buying the most prolific striker in Holland at the time - Dirk Kuyt - and then not playing him as a striker for 6 years - an absolute waste, and I believe very costly mistake by our last 3 managers - and then BR sells him and he scores in his first 4 games for his new club, who play him as a striker.

Johnson at left back, Henderson right wing - dead right - bleeding mental.

John B

John, you do know that Kuyt played as a striker for his first two years here, don't you? Seeing as your supposedly a Liverpool fan and all? He got pilloried for not scoring enough goals when playing there, I believe.

And his new club, need I remind you, is a significantly poorer league than this one. I scored 23 goals playing Sunday League last season, should I be playing as a striker for Liverpool?

- Something Red -

22 Aug 2012 13:52:59
As much as I hate the worry of the final week of the transfer window.

I'd love to have an exciting deadline day from the club.

Just a thought..

Hi Ed's is it true that Southampton are to hijack Gaston Ramirez off Liverpool? {Ed002's Note - No. He may move to Southampton though.}

Gaston Ramirez was never coming to Liverpool.

22 Aug 2012 13:48:25
Brendan Rodgers really needs to start looking defenders rather than attackers!

Yea cos we need all the defenders to get us goals!!
If we just got defenders now we'd struggle big time for goals, hence we'll either draw games of lose, we need attacking options in the squad, we need a proper finisher but they dont come cheap... Agger, Skrtel, Kelly, Carragher and Coates are all very good defenders IMO, we have plenty of cover there, i know we had one poor game in defence but Skrtel and Agger are a brilliant partnership, one of the best in the league.

Rocky

We have an excellent defensive team.we are thin up front.

The best form of defence is attack.

dannyMAC

22 Aug 2012 13:47:33
Another one of our targets have been hijacked! Nuri Sahin that really show that Liverpool aren't really big contenders anymore!

Chill out. Great player but if we'd got him what was going to happen with Allen, Gerrard, Lucas, Shelvey, Henderson? And if he does well he'll be back to Madrid anyway so we'd be back to square one.

Mantis

I kind of agree with you Mantis, but I feel Sahin could have made a difference for us in the short term. He's a top player and will unfortuately make the Arse that much stronger this season. Ulsterpool

22 Aug 2012 13:46:52
Lets all stay positive no matter how hard it is as the minute. If there are no new signings by the 1st September (which is 10 days away) then and only then will i become concerned!

22 Aug 2012 13:43:05
Ed's , are romours about Nolito true ?? , plz answer :D {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

22 Aug 2012 13:38:43
Hello Ed002,

8 days remaining before the window closes. Do you think we will sign anyone before that? We have already missed out on Tello and Sahin and have not bid for Dempsey yet.

Please post!

Regards,

Ashish {Ed002's Note - I expect one or two in and one or two out still.}

22 Aug 2012 13:38:15
Can you clarify or at least who you would prefer out of adam johnson and ramirez. to me it seems that ramirez is the better bargain. while his value is higher, his wage demands are lower. also, ramirez is younger. to me i would think it would be worth spending the 18 million to get him. however, people say johnson is lazy but i think he may just be discontent with his lack of play at city due him not having a "big name". when he does play, he shows signs of brilliance, creativity and speed. with a starting role or a run of games he could be top notch. that's my opinion on the matter and i was wondering what you thought and who was the more likely option at this moment. thanks!

22 Aug 2012 13:38:12
the Times are reporting that Real Madrid would rather send Sahin to Liverpool than Arsenal, as it will be a better deal financially. {Ed002's Note - It is a bit late for that.}

Has he officially gone to Arsenal? I haven't been able to find a 'reliable' source confirming it.

Ketchup + salad cream are reliable.

22 Aug 2012 13:37:35
With LFC struggling for a LB and not a huge amount of funds wouldn't Royston Drenthe who's out of contract at RM and is on a free make a good cheap signing and back up to our main LB.. Can play LB or as a Winger and would fit in with BR new 4-3-3 formation.

I'm with you on this one dude.... Really need someone like him in our team. I say forget Ramirez and Johnson, and go in for Drenthe... he is free.... just the wages to worry about....

His attitude stinks, Rodgers would never sign him.

22 Aug 2012 13:33:36
The truth is we are trying to buy players because they are cheap, we wont even bid for Johnson or Dempsey, ffs, they are too expensive for FSG's tastes, that's beyond sad. We will sign to cheap and comparatively unknown players with so called potential by the end of the window, and will have sold Adam, Carroll and many Agger, I wonder what our net transfer this window will actually be, its going to be interesting to see that's for sure.

FSG keep can only think of resale value, tell that one to City, Chelsea, United, they don't buy their players with the plan to sell them, they buy to build winning teams. We are going nowhere with these type of signings. We need the finished articles, we need top notch players and we need them now.

Is there anyone with some sense at the club than can explain this fact to this bastion of footballing ignorance that is FSG? They need a good smack just for been so damn stupid. How can a so called professional organistion manage to so many vital decisions wrong time and time again, I would get sacked from my job for this level of incompetence, if wasn't for the fact that these clowns are doing so much damage to the club, it would actually make a great episode of the Simpsons.

Gerry

Why are we critsing FSG
1,Remember the state we were in when they Rescued us
2,They backed Comolli and Dalglish (henderson £20m Downing £20m Carol £35m plus others )
3.We have a new manager an I for one would be happy if we kept our money back and spent it wisley rather than spashing out on expensive failures
Please keep the faith and remember the road to recovery will be a long one

Gerry, after reading your post and laughing at the utter incompetence within it, if you could be sacked from this site you would be. FSG saved the club, but when your iq and collar size seemingly match it's probably a difficult thing for you to understand. Dear oh dear, the summer does indeed bring out the nutters.

Flagg

Gerry, the club had to pay 50 million loses this year , lower the wage bill, try to get players at a younger age , the way shanks etc did , plus if you take into account the bad buys that we will lose millions upon millions upon , aquaman being just one name - loss- about 32 million , we all know the rest of the current players in the squad who will cost us too , then you have to know things have to change , if the club wants to run itself on a good and substainable basics, i dont know what job you do mate , but you would not be at the top of the job list for lpool............lfc

Hopefully we won't bid for Johnson for the right reason - he's average at best.

John B

Harsh, but the reason we are in this position now is not because of FSG, but Kenny Dalglish. Rodgers has a big job to do to keep both the fans and the owners happy. We won't make any of the "big" signings we're going on about, but what do you expect after wasted millions resulted in a mid-table finish?

Kenny has a lot to answer for

22 Aug 2012 12:48:41
Our once great club just leaves me shaking my head at times , we pay 35 million for carrol , when he is clearly unfit after an injury , and about half a stone over weight, so we put him on a year plan to get him fit and strong and lookin about two yards faster , and playing well, then we try to sell him at a loss of 15 to twenty million ! ! Just give the boy chance up front for god sake and if not look to move on then!

At least give him another season, he cant score when hes on the bench, he needs to play most games

22 Aug 2012 12:44:27
have faith until the dead line

regards

22 Aug 2012 12:43:11
I belive there will be no more signings untill we sell which now seems unlikely lpool will struggle to make top 10 let alone top 4 ..great site eds.

What are u basing your belief on? Because everyone else including the eds expects 1 or 2 more?!

Thats a bit too pessimistic

22 Aug 2012 12:43:04
eds how is it man u can get work permits for young players so easy, yet we dont seem to be able to do the same ie bueno.

cheggerbalofski {Ed002's Note - Bueno was not a work permit issue. I am not able to explain everything to do with the situation in teh public domain sadly.}

Ahh now i know why, it was kenny who wanted him, new management now so not sure

22 Aug 2012 12:42:41
Hi Eds and Reds,
One for Edd02 really, but open for reponses. I'm in no way having a go at you saying that you were wrong, but just wondered what you think of the Sinclair - City scenario and whether Liverpool are still in the hunt? I know you said that we were likely to have interest after the Olympics, but i've not heard.
Surely he would think a move to Liverpool would be better for him at this stage in his career, or does he want to dissapear with the likes of Rodwell?
Also, with his cloe relationship with Rodgers and Allen, surely that would be tempting. All i'm trying to say is, whether you think we are till in the hunt behind the scenes?
Thanks
Red Viking {Ed002's Note - I am surprised Liverpool has not shown an interest in Sinclair yet. If there is to be a move for him, now would be the time to do it.}

22 Aug 2012 13:31:59
Any interest in Jesus Navas? Names creeping up today

M {Ed002's Note - No.}

You probably just overheard all us Liverpool fans praying that we might sign someone!

22 Aug 2012 13:31:17
Hey Eds, anytime I post froma pc, at home, work or whereever, it never seems to make it through. Any ideas why? I'm trying this on ie instead of firefox to see if that's an issue. Ulsterpool {Ed002's Note - Works just fine. Try sending a test message from each - mark them for my attention and include an email address or name in the email field and we can see what gets through.}

This one got through ed, obviously! Curious...
Cheers. Ulsterpool

22 Aug 2012 13:24:54
hey all edds, first time comment but long time viewer, love the site check it regularly,I have a question to all the edds and readers.
Even if Rodgers wants to play this new style of football ala Barcelona surely the realisation the we need to find a true goalscorer is seen ?
If you look at Barcelona you see messie scoring for fun with others chipping in with theire fair share. But alto not a true centre forward he gets the goals that are needed.
In reality last season was the first season in a long time Barca have not had a striker in a more traditional sense of the word and this is just down to Villas injury since Christmas, i for one believe that barca would have retained La Liga and the Cmp lg if he was fit.
I can understand him seeing Carroll as a dead horse in his style of play but surely he must understand what he has got him self into!
He has come in with a long term plan and i am behind that,we need years to recover and regenerate, but surely the first problem that he should be addressing is to find a striker who fishinesses the moves he wants us to play?
Instead he has brought in a Chelsea reject who has had 5 clubs since 2007. I am not downing the guy, i do think he has potential, a promising winger from Holland and a central midfielder who again has enormous potential.
Surely he has seen over the last number of years we have a shocking conversion rate of chances and are crying out for a striker?
My question for you edds is are we seriously looking for a striker or are we in for more days like we have grown so used to over the last number of years? I realise its a big question but any info or any imput would be great thanks. {Ed002's Note - Borini is not a "Chelsea reject" - you should perhaps find out why he decided to leave. Obviously if you are not happy with Borini I am sure you can start a hate campaign against him and force him out of teh club. Twitter, Facebook, defacing the ground - all are popular and effective means.}

Edd 002, who said i was starting a hate campaign?? yes he may have left Chelsea for other reasons but that dose not discount the fact of having three other clubs in that period. If you read what i said i say "i am not downing the guy has potential", am i wrong to point out possible flaws with a player
?? {Ed002's Note - Find out the reasons for the other clubs.}

The truth is we are short on 2 not 1 top class forwards. look at utd , they have 5, look at city- 6, we need at least 3 for the main role in the box , if we play with a front 3 , it might seem fine , but a couple of injurys and we are caught short , or we might need to play a 442 in some games ,if big andy goes, we will need to replace , hate to say it but maybe getting owen on a years contract is the answer, that would cover us - so it could look like this for the main forward role- luis, owen , clint from fulham , borini , this would give the likes of adam morgan time to go out on loan as hes not ready for the first team yet..............lfc

A little knowledge can be dangerous - Fabio Borini was 18 at Chelsea, at a time when youngsters didn't get a kick at that club, he went on loan to Swansea to get experience, like a lot of players do. He decided he didn't want to return to Chelsea, he then signed for Parma, for about 8 weeks of the summer, then went on loan to Roma and did OK, then BR wanted him and bought him to LFC.
Sounds to me like the lad wants to play football, still young with great potential.
Allen does not have potential - he is already a very accomplished player.

22 Aug 2012 13:24:11
Best wishes to Kevin Sheedy, a true great of the game and a legend to many.

22 Aug 2012 13:24:01
Ed,
with the financial difficulty in La Liga at the moment, is Arda Turan available at a reasonable price, and if so, have you heard of Liverpool looking at him?

Thanks,
Jos {Ed002's Note - There is no interest in Arda from Liverpool but he can be available - the price quoted is 25M euros. It won't happen.}

I dont understand why we didnt snap him up when he was worth around 12m a year back... {Ed022's Note - We can't snap up everyone I'm afraid.}

Thanks Ed! A shame in my opinion, considering he is the sort of technical ability we lack out wide with an additional ability to be just as useful floating in the middle...
I hope we sign someone who can play that role - the Joe Cole role perhaps, and a top forward too.
Jos

22 Aug 2012 13:10:23
Hi Ed.....So, no Sahin....no Tello either after he started for Barca last weekend. Dempsey...will he wont he (yawn) and i doubt Walcott will be coming either. So who exactly are we looking at?

I Bet we are working on a signing behind closed doors, one similar to Assaidi ( who knew about that?! )..

22 Aug 2012 13:07:52
Hello eds, when do you expect us to sign our next player by and will be doing deadline day drama again??
please reply
GAM {Ed002's Note - It is near impossibnle to say the timing of transfers.}

22 Aug 2012 13:07:05
Not so much a rumour but Adam Morgan is travelling to Edinburgh with the team. Do the eds think the younger blokes will feature in game against Hearts? Are we that confident of beating them?

Geoff {Ed002's Note - Yes. Yes.}

22 Aug 2012 13:06:55
Is it just me or have the wheels well and truly come off already. Sahin has gone to Arsenal, Tello doesnt want to come, and the only business we have done so far is two very young players who are far from the finished article. It's never a good sign when no one else is in the race to buy players you're after, as has been the case with Liverpool's two deals.

I can now see Rodgers falling into the same traps as Hodgson. Signing players on cut-price deals and players from his former club. We need players of Sahin's calibre to take the club back into the Champions League. But with 9 days left and nothing on the horizon, it just leaves Liverpool fans feeling really deflated.

If Comolli wasn't the man to scout the players and make the deals, we need someone else back working in this capacity. Because Rodgers can't do everything, no matter how much of a messiah he thinks he is!

Sorry for the negativity, just been 100% honest. Who here thinks Liverpool's current squad can finish above Man United, Man City, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Newcastle, or even dare I say it Everton?!

RedDen

Aren't Sahin and Tello in the same category as Borini and Assaidi - all are young and unproved in the Premier League. I think that over the past few seasons Liverpool have wanted certain players but they have gone to other clubs that they preferred. You and I would jump at the chance to play for Liverpool but not everyone would. We have some excellent young players - the only problem is that they have no been given the chance (YET!). That will change this season. You can say what you want things didn't go our way last Saturday but that is something that we have been experiencing for a long time. What goes around comes around and that circle of good luck must surely be heading our way. I've supported Liverpool through the bad times then the good times, again in the bad times and look forward to the good times again. Let the fans of the wannabees laugh now beu we will be the next ones laughing.

I imagine using the word 'think' and associating it with a post of the level of utter garbage you just posted is a novelty in itself. Well done kiddo, you win today's crayons! Ulsterpool

May I just take a moment to wish Kevin Sheedy, a former Lfc player and Everton legend all the best as he battles bowel cancer. Good luck Kevin, fans of all clubs will surely echo this sentiment.

Paul, Staffs.

Yeap sheedy was a good footballer,all the best kev

Well said mate irish legend too ole ole ole sheedy saved the day was what the irish sang when he scored anainst england in world cup!

22 Aug 2012 12:52:13
Eds, what is the current situation with Huntelaar? In my opinion, he's wasted at Schalke. They wont win Champions League, they wont win the Bundesliga. Why not convince him to give the Prem a go and help LFC to a CL finish? {Ed002's Note - Try the search function - this was dealt with yesterday.}

And you think we will win the premiership or the champions league anytime soon??

22 Aug 2012 12:49:20
Hi Ed, can i get the full response please regarding Royston Drenthe.... {Ed002's Note - It will likely be West Ham, Ajax or AC Milan on a free transfer.}

He's extraordinarily poor

I thought he did really well whilst playing for Everton.... Defo be better than Charlie Adam, Stewie Downing and even Hendorson.... Drenthe can be used as a winger or a left back... he has pace, strenth and skills... What more do you want in a 25yr old free agent?

You want him to turn up for training sober

Really? Didn't know. You serious? {Ed001's Note - it is not just drink he has an issue with.}

22 Aug 2012 12:33:35
Just heard that Ed's 1 and 2 are in talks with LFC about becoming our main strike force for the season. Ed's 3 and 4 wanted to play in midfield but Ed's 1 and 2 laughed at them and scuppered their chances so Ed 3 sulked then started to cry and told the others Ed's that he won't be knocking on their doors again asking them if they want to "come out and play" then he stamped in puddles all the way back home ... but Ed 4 took it all in good spirits and proceeded to get drunk in The Albert ... once again ... as per usual the other Ed's don't expect to see him again for quite some time ... Ed 5 wanted to play in goal but Brendan refused to have a goalkeeper who likes to wear women's clothes while in goal for LFC on match day and to be fair he does have a point. Reluctantly Ed 5 agreed with Brendan and then asked him if he liked his new flowery skirt and blouse. You gotta love those Eds. Keep dreaming lads, miracles do come true sometimes. Istanbul 2005 Glory! ... keep the faith.

Red Dude. {Ed052's Note - Hey, where am I. I play the Lucas/Allen role, defensive, spray the ball around Centre Mid}

With your expertise, Ed052, you will be running the show.
Dutchmal

Sorry Ed52 you arragonce and lack of training has put you on the bench along with sparky. {Ed052's Note - Ok, maybe I go a bit over the top, but atleast I dont attack the club I love and breath like others}

He's obviously seen you play Ed. Then again Downing and Spearing get a game so you never know.

Sorry ed52 we never heard of you so your no good to us :D

22 Aug 2012 12:33:05
Eds,
Do you think the rumours about Nacer Chadli and Omar el Kaddouri.... this is hard to word btw sorry.... Is there are chance its information sources are acquiring too late regarding interest in a young forward with dual, part Morroccan nationality?

I mean if the rumours are true, we could have a frontline of:
Assaidi, Kaddouri, Chadli
Thats a lot of flair and potental.

I just find it weird we have been linked with 3 Morroccans in the last week.. Do they possibly have the same agent, so people are jumping to conclusions? Just a thought. All 3 would be good additions though in my opinion. Assaidi has a real Silva look about him.

YNWA! (Adam) {Ed052's Note - We dont know of any interest in them - but it could be true. I only say this becuase of the Assaidi surprise}

22 Aug 2012 12:28:04
Our two best chances against West Brom were in the air...Suarez fluffed his lines on both. I believe Carroll would have scored at least one of them. AC should be given a chance in this new team. I'm not a huge fan of his but think he causes defenders real problems. No team gets points for technical ability or playing beautifully or keeping possession. It's all about winning and winning is ONLY about which team converts their chances.
Rant over.

The problem is, Caroll would have been on the halfway line playing catch up.

Sure but would carroll have been in the position to score them?
would the space have been created from his movement off the ball to attack?
we can't just say every time we miss a headed chance that carroll would've scored it and should start.
derryred

Couldn't agree more.

Hi Ed, first timer posting....
What is your opinion on Royston Drenthe? I believe he is on a free... Even though he is/was an Everton reject, i think he would be a great addition to our team. He's got strength, pace and skill.... What you think? {Ed052's Note -

Everton reject,would strengthen liverpool blo-dy hell lmao ive heard it all now

He's a very very poor player

22 Aug 2012 12:16:56
whats with soldado,was a link would we go for him if avaliable and cost were right ??

He signed a new contract about 6 weeks ago. Valencia have sold Jordi Alba to cover their debts this summer, so they won't be selling Soldado.

Just heard Chelsea bid of £35m for cavani is expected to pave the way for a return to a field for Torres with £22m being the price, also bid from Newcastle for Carroll of £16m over the weekend.

Dan86

This site is better than the Edinburgh Fringe at times.
However much I would love Torres to come back, don't think it will happen, and Newcastle will not bid that much for AC, I also do not believe LFC are the least bit interested in bringing bench warmer Johnson to Anfield either.

John B

WHY? he wasnt scoring at liverpool when he left and he hasnt broken to much delph at chelsea either,so please tell me again WHY .the fans on this site seem to always want to go back home when the going seems a little tough.so please tell me how liverpool will ever go forward when most want to go back to the comfort zone ( the past) its the past that has put lfc into this predicament.is it any wonder previous liverpool owners let the club live in the past how the hell could they have moved the club out of anfield or changed things so that lfc moved with the times.impossible,most fans would have opposed it tooth and nail,wake up and look around you the world has changed since the 80ies for goodness sake
anon

£22 million for Torres?? more like £12 million.

If Carrolls worth 35 Torres is worth 22m

Thought I'd throw some names out there who will be cheap or free!
Nzonzi - cracking player
Owen - proven goalscorer
Affelay - quality on Loan
Ki Sun - Celtic confirmed he will leave
Also talk of Cissoko, Lisandro Lopez, Gamiero available for loan.
We're a goalscorer, winger (quality one, not Downing) and Possibly some added strength in depth away from becoming a force again. Assandi was a real coup for £3m. Get these scouts out and about cos we need more of that.

When do the school holidays end {Ed052's Note - Hopefully soon}

Hi ed's

Do you know anything on Man Utd and us fighting it out for Hector Herrera.

Simoky {Ed002's Note - I don't, sorry.}

At the start of the Transfer window things were looking up, all the links were really nice to hear but now things have completely gone wrong! No Ramirez, No AJ, No Theo or Sahin! No players want to come. We've rightly got rid of some deadwood but replaced them with more possible deadwoood! What is going on?

Daniel Narciso YNWA

They were only links - not bids, and nothing from the club.
What describes " deadwood " ? - one of which scored again at Spartak Moscow last night.
Big mistake letting deadwood Kuyt go, if our previous 3 managers had played him where he was bought for, he could have broken our PL scoring record.

John B

Exaclty..kuyt scored 5 in 5 games...

Don't call players deadwood then sign off with YNWA.
derryred

Yeah call them crap instead!!

I disagree 100% with Narcisus above, but IF it was true that nobody wanted to join Liverpool it would be down to so-called 'fans' like him whinging and moaning all the time. Imagine being stuck in the pub with him, or Bosclown or RedBurk? How utterly hellish would that be

Flagg

It's bad enough calling established Liverpool players "deadwood" but resorting to labelling new signings as "possible deadwood" makes me angry and you look stupid

The BBC are reporting that West Ham have put in a £10m bid for Matt Jarvis - surely we should table a bid or exchange for Downing!

Matt Jarvis would be a very useful addition to the squad

This is exactly the kind of thinking that got us stuck with Downing in the first place!

AG

Jarvis is not good enough ....would just be downing mk2

Shushyboy

Downing > Jarvis

22 Aug 2012 11:52:57
Hi , I'm told by a friend who works at Anfield , Carroll is contemplating an offer from abroad. He will leave by the end of Aug and Rodgers is after Mirallas!

-Brendon- {Ed002's Note - Let's hope Rodgers doesn't spend more than a few days trying to get Mirallas.}

Why would he be after miralles since he joined Everton this week!

22 Aug 2012 11:49:22
Ed002, are reporting liverpool are to bid £18 million for gaston ramirez as the owners are willing to back the manager. Do you think there is any truth in this also do you think we will buy a striker before the window closes? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I really don't want to open up the weeping sore again. As for a striker, probably - but again much will depend on who leaves.}

22 Aug 2012 12:02:23
Eds I see fields of anfield road reporting we have made a move for LLORENTE could this be true? Hope you can answer

Hey guys, who do u think should be first choice winger between downing and assaidi?personally i think assaidi should be given more gametime as he definitely has quality, unlike downing who is getting worse with each passing day. Still cant figure out why ha has not been transfer listed yet.
Indian Buzzer

Downing has been really disappointing since he has singed and some extra competition in Assaidi and Sterling will do him no harm. Personally, I think a spell on the bench might give him a good kink up the arse he deserves.

AG

Yeh your right, he probably does need a good kink up the a***, he hasnt been good since he singed

Assaidi hasn't been given any game time yet so how can we give him more? I wish all the fans would get behind ALL our players, this is a squad game and i think they all need our support!

CoolhandLFC

He may well like a bit of kink up his ass

Does anyone think isco is the player we need and if michu can be grabbed for 3m. Why can't isco.

Scouse Ben

22 Aug 2012 11:50:01
I don't think our team or squad is good enough to compete for fourth! Spurs and Newcastle are simply too good! Anyone who watched that match seen the quality on show! I believe there are 5 teams better than us in the premier league ATM 6th I reckon
Comments ed or anyone else? No need to get too offended as this is difficult for me as I'm usually very optimistic like most pool fans but tryin to be realistic ATM as its soo early ha

I am still wondering whom to blame? the owners who have so far spoken much and done little, the manager who seem to be running after players in the market like a blind hunter, scouts who seem to be snoring and snoozing, or we the unfortunate fans despite being one of the largest and most passionate groups in the world are deprived of CL and quality football. sorry for being negative. i am absolutely shattered looking at our squad to Hearts, simply not good enough! there is no back up, one injury of an lb results to change in two positions. there is no back up striker never mind any winger, more importantly there is no back up for gerrard. less than 10 days left!!

I completely disagree we create more chances then most teams but can't finish. Give us a cisse and ba players that can score from anywhere and we would be right up there. We have got a much better them then Newcastle we just can't finish. This site has been so depressing I can't wait till we beat man c then everyone will be the opposite

I watched that match and wasnt impressed in either team but why all the panic its only the 1st game of the season those 2 teams will get better and so will we things dont start settling down until october....steve

22 Aug 2012 11:49:56
most liverpool fans posting on here get me down. so much negativity. it's sad really. our clubs mantra is 'you'll never walk alone' yet so called fans on here will rubbish our manager, owners and players one game into the season.

jm

Cos we were s ite last year mate and not much has changed to alter that

22 Aug 2012 11:39:01
Wow ed52 has just sayed that borini is quality rather then young with potential. So fans we should forget about another striker as borini will score 25+ goals !! What a joke ed52 and oh you say we have got money to spend where ed2 says there is no money wow loving it {Ed052's Note - He could mate, if he has chances. He's quality}

It's alright ed 52 school holidays is nearly finished

Not only is Borini quality - he had the most important attribute - the desire to play for Liverpool Football Club.
All the other crazy links on this site, the national press and SSN etc have nearly all been realms of fantasy.
Football transfers should be relatively simple - Scouts/Club identify a player they would want, talk to the club, put a bid in - if bid accepted offer the player terms, if he even hints he is considering other offers from other teams - move on, and identify alternatives.
Ideally do not make any announcements until terms are agreed, although you can't legislate for the selling club revealing the details.

John B

Borini & allen have appetite & ability & are only going to get better,just glad some of you lot were not around when a young players like rush & whelan were finding their feet....... Paisley's genius

Yeah ed052 it must be true if you 'sayed' it .......... another unsigned brainless moron........andy.

22 Aug 2012 11:39:49
Seen something on twitter from a guy saying he supports Manchester United, Real Madrid and Liverpool. That in itself is bad enough. But he was calling for the sacking of Alex Ferguson after they got beat by Everton, saying he is ruining their club. Ha, what an person. Ferguson made their club what it is, and hopefully Brendan will have a similar reign with us. Just reminded me of a lot of people on here so thought I'd share that.

The Liverpool management must have something pretty amazing in the transfer pipeline.I mentioned weeks ago after we lost sig that we can't attract top players what's worrying is that we can't attract average players.Come on BR please give us something positive.

Clee Red

We can attract top players, if you remember we decided NOT to sign Siggurdson because of his wage demands, not the other way round

Carroll going nowhere. Wants to stay and fight for his place despite BR wanting him out. I heard he has very recently purchased the house he was renting. Going nowhere trust me.

It will be hard to get rid of carroll because every one can see he is no good in his all round game

Cisse bought the Mannor of Frogham and got sold a year later.

Just heard that LFC are speaking to representatives of Alan Pulido! Any truth in this ed's? {Ed002's Note - No, sorry.}

22 Aug 2012 11:36:18
Hello to Eds and everyone

One game played and we are doomed? Be optimistic fellow reds. You will be amazed how 2, yes only 2 transfers could transform everything. Almost like a catalyst (spelling). Dempsey and walcott or johnson...I promise you, all the doom and gloom will be like a forgotten bad dream...there are good days coming...just be patient
Redtam in London {Ed052's Note - Morning, good post.}

Sick of you clowns saying 1 game. People are angry cos its a continuation of whole of last season in leauge ffs

22 Aug 2012 11:24:33
Just need a bit of rant. I can't get excited about any of the players we seem to be linked with. It seems for the past few years all our exciting targets get bought up by someone else, and not always for ridiculous fees (i.e. £35m) or wages (numerous i.e.s!). These teams weren't always the obvious choices they now seem. I'm talking about Silva and Mata (apparently keen due to the Spanish connection at the time), Barry would've been a good fit at the time, Aguerro (apparently a Liverpool 'supporter') was linked with us for years, now there's Sigurdssen (apparently keen to link up with his ex-boss), and Hazard (who we never really wanted anyway because of his 'attitude'), the there was Nasri (who we also never really wanted anyway because of his 'attitude'). I'm sure we were even linked with Bale before he went to Spurs (but bought another fabulous prospect instead, who's name escapes me...) Now we've even allowed ourselves to get excited about a guy who can't get into the Real Madrid side, but has in all probability, snubbed us to go to Arsenal on loan.

And then why is it the people we do get turn out to be worse for us than they were for previous teams? They can't all find the pressure of playing for a 'big' club too daunting to kick a ball to a team mate, or into a large net! Why were Chelsea (our rivals at the time) happy to let Joe Cole come up north (is he still on their payroll?!), how can Downing go from being team captain and player of the year at Villa to being a toothless backpasser at Liverpool? How come Adam could put the ball on a sixpence as captain of Blackpool, only to have the ball ricochet of his boot at random angles for Liverpool? How come Carroll was 'banging them in for fun' at Newcastle and now, just as he was becoming 'unplayable' again, we selotape him to the bench and tell him to find somewhere else to be 'unplayable'? And what was that Aquillani thing all about?!

There are obvious exceptions and yes, this is probably a premature knee-jerk as a result of a disappointing result at the weekend. As a supporter for 40 years, I'm not going to stop cheering and crying in the right places, but in the light of all the changes over the past few seasons, it is worrying that it's the things we do wrong are the things that don't seem to change. Why, if we don't talk about transfers, does the manager talk about Dempsey? ...and Sigurdssen? Was there a gentleman's agreement with Swansea? And if there wasn't, why wasn't it denied? Why, if we don't talk about referees, do we talk about referees?

It's time for me to shut up, brace myself for a barracking, and sit back and enjoy the highs and lows of the forthcoming season. Let's hope there are a few more of the former than the later - "good luck everybody"

Raised Eyebrow {Ed052's Note - Good rant!!}

Completely agree. Liverpool has become an enigma at the moment. From owners to managers to players you can just about discuss huge positives about each but in the same sentence counter a negative view at the same time. Highly frustrating as a long time fan that is intelligent enough to understand the general goings on with the club. All the while our rivals seem to be more competitive both on and off the pitch. I think we all know that everyone is working there hardest to rectify the situation but with so many changes in owners,managers and personnel it is not working quick enough. What disappoints me the most though is how our aspirations have lowered. Every team, though unlikely, aims to win the competition it plays in. Our aim now is just to get into the top 4, when did trying to win the league not become the main goal, with top 4 as second choice. Still hopeful and faithful.
Beancounter

Agree mate. I'm very worried about our transfer activity over the last 24 months. But we have to accept we've declined massively since Rafael went. Not saying its due to this but it's massively alarming how we have fallen from top four (and let's not forget second in league in2009).

We need to seriously show some statement of intent. At least challenge the saints to the signing if Ramirez. Sadly though I think he's this seasons Mata.

Jonesred

Links don't mean anything about who the club are actually after, do you know any player Rodgers has come out and said he would want, because I haven't, not even the Sigurdsson debacle.
Even the Dempsey thing was an employee in the states - not Rodgers.

John B

More links then Ratners and wernt they crap also?!

Liverpool targets:

Walcott - I personally think there is no chance. Wenger doesn't give up on young, fast talent that easy. He will clearly resign with Arsenal.

Dempsey - His price tag is 10 million. Liverpool only want to pay 7. I hope and pray Rodgers doesn't pass on this one like he did Gylfi. Will be another mistake.

Ramirez - There never was a chance. Perhaps if someone came in for Carroll in the next couple of days, but that won't happen either. West Ham offered 17 million and he wouldn't go. Think Newcastle will offer more? Not a chance.

Tello - Please. Who came up with this rumour? He starts for Barcelona!!

Sahin - Arsenal bound. No surprise there.

Adam Johnson - Again, this seems more of a fan desire than club target, and one that has been bounced around on this site for 4 years. Not going to happen.

Mystery target - I think this one is most likely, aside from Dempsey. Did anyone expect Assadi?

Just my take. No inside info.

Morning Ed,
Apparently it's being reported this morning that Newcastle have offered £12 million take it or leave it for Andy Carroll. Surely we should tell them to take a hike, because what decent striker could we get with that money? I personally feel he will go, and the fee will be conveniently be undisclosed! This will be unacceptable in my opinion, what do you think? {Ed002's Note - That would be enough for a decent striker (say Lisandro Lopez for example) with perhaps a little top up.}

£12m Is about the correct value right now.

!5m was realistic back when we paid 35 ! What a fook up that was

22 Aug 2012 11:19:12
please relate ed002 I'm really frustrated with how we lose out on our targets and then claim that they want to play CL ! robinho agreed to play in man city without CL , its not about CL we have to face reality if we want to bring back our glory days , right now i believe we have to spend in order to compete . I think we don't have to bring another midfielder and give henderson and suso a chance to develop. We need a top class striker or keep carroll and give him a chance to prove himself , he's dying to stay and fight for his place while on the other hand we can see downing playing without any passion and we still keep him , hes on of the worst wingers in the league and we spent 20million pounds on him ! i don't mind to leave but as a BACKUP for a player like adam johnson/ramirez/muniain/gaitan or even kaka . Please stop getting average players and go for world class ones. Finally, i hope liverpool could get :
llorente / vucinic / falcao / jovetic / lisandro lopez / matias suarez /lewandowski/barrios/cavani( i know its very unlikely but i hope suarez and coates could persuade him if we put a bid )
johnson/arda turan/ramirez/muniain/gaitan/kaka/eriksen ( i know the last two are not wingers but can adapt in rodgers style ) {Ed002's Note - It is not just Champions League that attracts players - sometimes it is money (Robinho to Manchester City is probably a reasonable example). Liverpool really do not have the money to bring in the Aguero, Cavani, etc. players. The owners have invested a considerable amount in the team since they arrived but cannot keep throwing money at players. To date only six teams worldwide have spent more than Liverpool this summer - although this will chjange considerably over the coming ten days. I have said since it happened that it was a really significant mistake giving Dalglish the job full time but the owners were swayed by the fans who could only look back and not forward. Dalglish had been a great choice in the short-term but I felt he was so far removed from the modern day game that it would end in tears. The Champions League provides significant income and remains the clear target for the club.}

I have no problem with huge transfer fees if the club can afford it, but frankly any player asking for Man City size wages is not welcome at Liverpool. We'll do it our way.

Ed052 rodgers has already clearly stated we have no money!! So yes we are at the sell to buy stage! Hence the reason we are trying to force out the likes of carroll n agger! Why are you denying this?

22 Aug 2012 11:12:37
Look folks people are sounding ridiculous. I have followed reds for forty years and can warn all of you that any points we pick up from our next three home matches will be a bonus. The players are developing a new system of playing and it takes time. Stop jumping up and down on the management and give them two years then criticise. What do people want another new man next year. From what ive seen of BR he's no mug and I thouroughly believe he will get it right and he said it might not come to fruition in the next three years. Keep the faith and take the positives from how were playing (even with ten men last week look at the posession stats)
Sorry eds for the rant but some people need to get a reality check great job by the way
hol {Ed052's Note - Its fine mate}

Agreed!some sense there friend Paisley's genius

Agree a thousand times!

Anyone having a go at Rodgers after one game is a disgrace and I hope the people who post garbage on here are just kids who don't know any better. That being said people are understandably concerned.

We are not linked with any top quality players whilst Man united, chelsea, spurs and arsenal have already bought or are allegedly in talks with a number of players.

Sahin and Tello don't want to come to us, Johnson is apparently not happening and Dempsey has been dragging on for months. It seems hoping for a good signing out if the blue is the best we can hope for.

In addition no one wants Cole, Carroll, Downing or Adam mainly because we paid ridiculous fees or gave them massive wages.

Rodgers has got to start from scratch, something I believe he is trying to do, but he is being hindered by past mistakes made by others. The next few weeks could be very dark times considering our fixture list and I would hope there are no knee jerk reactions and childish posts if man city/man united beat us. Somehow, reading the comments after one game, I think I'm hoping for too much.

AJ

If we're not sitting in the relegation zone after our first 5 games I'll be surprised (just look at the fixtures), but in no way does that mean we'll be anywhere near a relegation battle at the end of the season. I don't expect to see the team playing right until November, by which stage we have a good run of games.

Clowns! It aint bout Rodgers or systems.Its 9 outve 11 starters at West brom where here last season(and same carps continued!) and very experienced.They werent good enough last season so wont be now as we aint drastically changed.Did you all see the goals we conceeded-fook all to do with systems(Hodgson and at times Kenny used that two)S ite defending and overall basic play

22 Aug 2012 11:12:31
I see the Geordies have offered a 12m take it or leave it offer for Andy Carroll. Lets face the facts: he is not in Rodgers plans and he is not happy here. He does not want to move anywhere else except back to the north-east so lets cut our huge losses and just get rid. With that 12m we could buy a decent replacement. Agree?

Dailylight robbery. I'd rather keep Carrol as a PLAN B. Why make such a huge loss, I don't think BR will do it, at least not for that amount.

If Carroll really does not want to leave, then it's because he wants to prove himself and make a point. We all saw signs of this at the end of last season. If he continues in the same way, he is worth more than any other 12 Million rated striker. ra1969

Latest Rumours:
A Johnson - QPR to bid in the next 24 hours.
G Ramirez - QPR to bid in the next 24 hours.
C Dempsey - QPR to bid in the next 24 hours.
T Walcott - QPR to bid in the next 24 hours.
Tello - QPR to bid in the next 24 hours.
Llorente - QPR to bid in the next 24 hours.

That should just about cover it. Basically, QPR setting out to buy every available player this summer to take the number of signings in this window to 20. Surely I will get one of these predictions right, won't I Eds?? {Ed052's Note - No, none will happen. Also, every player is linked to West Ham at the minute too}

Now that you've mentioned these two clubs Tottenham Hotspur will jump on the bandwagon followed by Manchester United.

Sturridge is not interested in joining. Dries Merten however is a target and contact has been made.

22 Aug 2012 11:10:12
Depending on sales, hearing it's up to three players coming in. Gaston Ramirez and Adam Johnson are looking very possible if we can shift Spearing, Cole, Adam or Carroll. with Spurs possibly making a move for Willian and Sunderland having made an approach to Spartak about signing McGeady, if Adam Johnson decides not to return home to the north east.

Dempsey and the less unlikely Walcott seems to have listened to his agent and go for the pressure deal with Arsenal after they've lost Song and RVP so he's off of ''the list'' should the above fall through i wouldn't be at all overly surprised to see Dempsey sign with an hour of the dead line to go, drama and then no matter what FSG and co look positive and can maximise the media effect if they needed too with the bank book closed for another season.

Personally i don't think i could stand Theo, we aren't doing great, so why start a charity?! Lastly i think it would be a defender in the case of Agger being sold. He's not playing against City via being banned, so it could be smoke and mirrors or a genuine fire.

Don't shoot, i'm just a repeater for all sake and purposes here.

22 Aug 2012 11:08:52
Why do liverpool leave it so late to do there business. thats when clubs start to up there prices with it been to late for them to get replacements.
hope we still get two more attacking players. i dont read to much into the game last sat.
i might be mad but i think we'll win on sunday...

trebor

Its also when prices drop so they can be sold, if there contract has 1 year left for example, better to get something than have them going on a free

22 Aug 2012 11:07:38
The sooner we play our next game the better, and boy if we win, Brendon R will be the worlds best coach, FSH will be the Lome Rabger riding off in the sunset, and we will need no more transfers...bring on the next game I say.

Well, Hearts are more our level of competition than premier league teams, so here's hoping we win. Ofcourse, we'll be in Scotland, with another match in few days, with Agger out, injury to Cole, Lucas not quite fit, etc. Too many excuses for us to actually win the game so my bet is either 1 - 0 loss or 0 - 0 tie.

Everton beat man u does that make their manager great no it does not and if we win the game v man city that will not make br great we will have to see how things pan out over the season.

great work ed...admired..
i would like to admire the guts of BR taking Liverpool job,Inspite of less funds...and having to win things with some of the rubbish players we have around...
i would be happy if we finish 5th this season.
only 6 players are good in our side..
He is helpless..he wanted to buy..but dont have money..not his fault..
And saw steve clarke saying...they would have taken liverpool to 4th spot this seaosn if both stayed?
got almost 30 months..spend 100 mill and took us to 8th position..and saying we would have achieved...

what you think ed? if KK would have been here would you think we would have made top 4 this season?? {Ed052's Note - Thanks mate. No, if KK was here we wouldn't have made top 4. Brendan is a top class coach and will guide us to the top. What I love about him is he takes the pressure of the players which is fantastic. What I worry about tho, is that he then takes the pressure on himself.}

Ed mate can you tell me plz what has brendan achieve plz coz saying he is top class coach compare to kd plz mate as kd has won 3 league titles 2/3 FA cups 1 carling cup in his 6 years as liverpool manager {Ed052's Note - What he has achieved? Well in his few years of coaching, he gained the proper experience needed. Furthermroe, he then easily got Swansea promoted, built a fantastic and cheap team, then destroyed the Prem in their first year. is dat no enought 4 ma txt spk m8?}

I agree ED and its up to us as fans supporters the 12 man to help him and let him know we are all right behind him,
And we need to stop worrying about other clubs and their signings and stand together as one and we will face anything that is throw at us. COME ON YOU REDS

RB {Ed052's Note - Thanks}

BR is ten times the manager dalglish is in the modern era. Im sure BR would never wasted over 100 million on over hyped and midtable britishers.
Indian Buzzer

Ed how many trophys has brendan won mate and how many times has he managed big clubs and what happen when he was at reading and watford thanks mate {Ed052's Note - Trophies doesn't always matter}

If ur refering to br being sacked by reading i think kk was also sacked by newcastle.it need not work for managers at all clubs.nd also from br's days at reading he has improved vastly.

Hi eds.if modic does go to Madrid will alonso be avaliable {Ed052's Note - No. He's first choice}

eds, just heard that liverpool have jumped ahead of manchester united and ac milan to sign kaka on a permenant deal do you have any confirmation on this? great site guys keep it up! {Ed052's Note - Not happening}

You haven't jumped ahead of us because we don't want him, this is all a stunt to get AC Milan to bid for him.

I doubt very much whether any Premier League side would want Kaka. He wouldn't last five minutes in the Prem - it is far far to physical for him, especially as he is injury prone anyway.

Give your head a shake, get back on the manc page, i wouldnt dream of going on your page.

22 Aug 2012 10:56:03
Victor Moses may be young, but he obviously doesn't fit FSG's transfer profile in other respects. ie, he plays wide, takes men on, beats them, excites the crowd, is available relatively cheaply, and weighs in with his fair share of goals.

Much better to let him go and sit on Chelsea's bench, as does Johnson at City.

So that's Sahin gone to Arsenal then. Another one who looked nailed on to sign for us has made a late U-turn and slapped us in the face. The other player was Sigurdsson in case you were living under a cave. Only about 4 years ago we were enjoying the likes of Torres ,Alonso and Mascherano in our team, knocking out the Barcelonas, Chelseas and Milans in CL semis and finals, playing mind games with Red nose at the top of the table, trashing united 4-1 away and finishing second in the league. Nowadays we are struggling to sign a Madrid bench player. On loan. Oh, where oh where did it all go wrong? I miss those days.
DAni {Ed052's Note - We rejected Sigi, not the other way around.}

We rejected sigi?? for asking 80k a week..wen downing gets the same for rubbishting in the pitch?
are u kidding me???? {Ed052's Note - Downing is not on 80k a week}

We need some 1 like benitez, they came becouse of benitez and they left for the same reazon (alonzo), if he come muniain and javi martinez, will be ours, and not player like joe allen. {Ed052's Note - What they is ridiculous. if Benitez was in charge, Martinez nor Munian would sign. Also your point is failed. You say that he gets players, but then forces them away. thats awful. A ridicuous post Im sorry mate. And, Allen's fantastic, stats show all yopu need to know about Allen}

The dalglish factor has ruined us!! the man has wasted HUGE amounts on 2 transfer windows , pity rogers wasnt in charge with the dalglish purse, im sure we are a bit more cautious now 4 obv reasons , fsg are good and rogers is 4 us , we need cole gone etc , lets hope we mite get one r 2 in if not we will just have to wait n support what we got ,
5 gold stars

"we were enjoying the likes of Torres ,Alonso and Mascherano in our team" We almost went into liquidation because of the H & G clowns and Rafa - have you forgotten that, DAni? Singred

the biggest problem at liverpool at the moment is brendan rodgers.we were a couple of good players away from top four he comes along with his silly tactics brings in three average players and sets us back.now we look possibly a top ten team.he has done nothing in the premier and never will.i have supporting liverpool since 1965 and this will be our worst season since souness
tonywebbo {Ed052's Note - Ridiculous}

Whats wrong with people like you? your not real fans, your couch guessers, your as bad as some of the pundits u write off someones chance based on one defeat, this whole system will take time to mould, we are no longer the force we were get used to it, cheer them when they win and when they loose, BR has a lot of work to do but constant moaning wont help, the fans must stop this constant i want i want and look what u did to the managers confidence. YNWA

Give the man a chance, mate. He's only had ONE game in which we had a couple rubbish decisions against us. I'm no BR fan myself, but fair is fair. 10 games then we will know....

I have been a supporter since 1967, 58 years now, from Sweden. I think Brendan is going to be perfect for Liverpool, play "pass and move", not like the boring football when Benitez and Roy was here. Try to stay calm, wait and give him a chance please, we just played one(!) game.

With views like that you should be supporting United mate. No clear idea about football and just out for the good days.

Support the club through thick in thin or fk away off

Tony - the biggest problem at liverpool at the moment are ridiculous 'fans' like you.

Eds i asede the orbes day about Quintero the colombian but i didnt jet a reply.. I wad just wondering if any of the eds who may have watched him could give me a review on the player? I've watched him several times in the Mexican league he would honestly be as good as Assaidi and probably for the same price! Very quick, clinical and smart technically... But what important points could you as eds make?

Also open to hear readers views if they've heard of him!

Liverpool to move for Scott Sinclair in the next few days as another winger is needed 5m fee he will reject city because he will get game time at liverpool and is rated highly by Brendan Rodgers and would fit flush in our new style as he knows the style so well

We will soon have to change our name to Swanpool fc

Why would we change our name to swanpool? We have only signed joe Allen from Swansea personally think Sinclair is a good player

And why not ? i cant remember the last time we beat anybody 5-0

22 Aug 2012 10:44:24
Eds can you please tell us what is the logic behind selling Carroll? Cutting loses? Hardly. The man can go more than 20 mil if Liverpool keeps on playing him. Doesn't fit in Rodgers style? Ridiculous. If he started him on Saturday we would have not been talking about 3-0 but about a win. Getting a better striker? Unlikely with the money we are splashing recently for unproven players.
I fear H&G were doing better business than the recent Bozos. {Ed052's Note - We might sell him to give the lad a chance. He needs to play, and we cannot offer him that. Therefore we might sell him. Furthermore, if a player wont play, then we might as well get money for him}

The Eds didn't really answer you. What do you mean a player won't play. BR must play him! He is one of the few threathening players we have!!! Sell him and we are truly done for. Buying a replacement with Carroll sold at a loss...WHAT A BLOODY JOKE!! {Ed052's Note - Well if a player is going to sit on the bench all year, wont play, on medium wages, and could fetch a good fee, then might as well be sold. gettit?}

I don't gettit to be fair. Who would offer more wages?

DaveyBootle

But my question Ed implies that I'm puzzled as of why not play Carroll. He is very dangerous inside the box and as I said in the first game if he started with him the game would have been finished from the first 30 minutes. Missed header from Suarez rings a bell? Not fit in BR's style? That's ridiculous. He can accommodate him, Borini and Suarez in the starting eleven. We do not need another striker. We need an attacking midfielder, or a winger who can score goals. {Ed052's Note - Why not play him - because he doesnt fit the style}

Seriously... Use some Commense sense people.
This isn't a matter of skill or anything. He will not play because Brendan Rodgers plays a quick pass a move. That's beside the point. We want to sell him so we can take him off the wage bill. He earns probably like 80k a week. That's around 4.2m a year. The funds from selling him will help buy a quick striker. IT'S NOT HARD.
AnfieldUSA

Ed52 this were u and rogers are stupid a front three of suarez carrol and borini in that order would be miles better just cause u have carrol in the team doesnt mean u have to play route one look at west brom game two glorious headng chances for surarez missed both carrol would of least got one and they were playing the way he wants so i trhink rogers needs to play to his players streths not a 180 page book fool sooner he realise the sooner we start becoming a good team in football u need three ways of playing not just a plan a

mike {Ed052's Note - Fair enough, but I disagree. And I actually never said that Carroll doesn't suit the play, just saying what we know}

22 Aug 2012 10:41:45
So we have missed out on Sahin and tello,I am definitely worried about this season,it looks like now we are hoping to get an over priced old attacker in dempsey,I would much rather get Adam Johnson for 10million considering their skill and price,what is the latest on Johnson eds?have we shown interest? Cheers. Jay

The old attacker? same age as RVP? When did 29 become old as a footballer - was it this year or last?

What's wrong with Dempsey? If he had scored 20+ goals for inter you'd be happy with him! Who cares about his age, if he's gonna bring the goals then we need him. He was awesome for Fulham and perfect for us, he's so versatile in any attacking position and he seems keen to join us. The money the owners spend on him isn't our business. We desperately need fire power, and Dempsey will bring it along with assists and plenty of energy.

If we got David Villa for around the £10m mark no doubt you'd be pleased? I mean he's not proved himself in the EPL, and been out injured for most of last season, and older than Dempsey, but still...Dempsey will be an excellent signing

22 Aug 2012 10:41:41
Signing Walcott and Dempsey would make me very happy - there's still time! Fingers crossed eh {Ed052's Note - And theres a chance too. Well Dempsey at least. I wish there were more people like you willing to give it time!!}

Ed052, you mean you wish there were more over 15's posting here, with some mere semblence of reality, patience and common sense? You and me both my man, you and me both. {Ed052's Note - haha, yep}

22 Aug 2012 10:39:03
Newcastle will pay only 16 million for Andy according to llambias.

Actually only £12m mate.

22 Aug 2012 10:37:39
hey lfc fans

its very sad to see liverpool struggling to attract any decent players.........and the lack of effort from management to try to add top players

this year will be a disaster like last yr..its a real shame

red shambles {Ed052's Note - WE ARE NOT STRUGGLING TO ATTRACT QUALITY PLAYERS!!!!!}

Really Ed? Enlighten us! {Ed052's Note - Allen, quality player, Sigi, everybody said he was amazing. Dempsey wants to desperately come to us. There are other options too, like Lopez, or Negredo etc etc.}

You kind of are ed, adam, henderson and carrol aren't quality... neither is borini. {Ed052's Note - Borini is, and those players were last year, and everybody wanted them too. And they are quality players too}

Well said Ed! People like this aren't true fans. I'm behind Rodgers 100% and I'm very confident he will get it right. {Ed052's Note - Thanks}

If you think they are quality ed then UTD, Chelsea and Arsenal must have bought world class players in, kagawa, Carzola, giroud, oscar and hazard. {Ed052's Note - Hahahahahaha. Giroud. Dont give me that. He missed a sitter!!!! And Cazorla comes from a weak league. And Oscar, he played kiddie footie all his life. You cannot tell if a player is good by their price tag mate.}

Ed, you're wrong this time. We haven't signed quality! Allen has potential I admit. But quality is someone like Iniesta etc. which obviously we won't attract.
Fans, however need to realise we finished 8th last season. This was shocking, so all we have to offer these quality players that's people keep mentioning (Lorente, Cavani, Sahin etc) is Europa League football and a wage reduction to what they're currently on. {Ed052's Note - Im not wrong Im affraid!! Haha}

Well said ed! These players have had good seasons in other leagues but the premier league is the toughest league in the world to come to and be successful and all of these players will have to up their game if theyre going to cut it.

Delboy

Ed I think you live in another planet. Giroud missed a sitter, but do you really think he is not good? Then again Arsenal gets above us the last 3 years we made "quality" signings. And Chelsea. And Tottenham. And I fear this year even Everton made pretty good deals. Allen is good but he is not an all rounder. He can't score goals. Borini is not quality. Borini is just a squad player. Assaidi quality? From where did u get that? Youtube? Why is that almost everyone that Wenger and Tottenham touches turns into gold immediately and our "quality" signings turn out to be complete flops(i.e Downing, Adam, Hendo)? {Ed052's Note - No Giroud aint that good.}

Wat makes u think assaidi cant be quality. his price? give the lad a chance.

Ok Ed let's see where our "quality" signings will take us this year. One of the same is my prediction, just patience doesn't cut it. The owners need to dig deep into their pockets and BR needs to aim higher. We are not Swansea. {Ed052's Note - We will finish 6th or 5th, a fantastic season}

22 Aug 2012 10:35:43
Guy on here keeps saying Dont worry about Spurs etc etc, We aint! Were worried they and others are strengthening with quality and as we aint where that will then leave US !!! Dohhhhh

If you are not happy with the majority of the players at Liverpool you have a choice watch someone else...... Paisley's genius

22 Aug 2012 10:33:52
Are we being strung along? Do FSG intend to fund us buying anyone else? {Ed052's Note - No. FSG want us to sucseed. So does Rodgers. They are doing what they think is best to win. Let them get on with it. No debt, fantastic manager, continued investment, youth, good coaches, the list of good things go on.}

Understrength first team???

Unfortunaltely Ed, there is nothing you can do, to make people understand.
When results start going our way, then everything will be "BR is God", "Borini is World Class".....
Until then, people will moan and groan and groan and moan - its human nature and thankfully sunshine, flowers and a decent beer are enough to offset their depressing effect on me and give me reason to smile each day. {Ed052's Note - I know, I am fighting a losing battle with people who change their tune very second. And they say teenagers have mood swings!!}

Results will not go our way. Its been 4 years results are not going our way and they will not go this year also because we do not make smart moves. Wake up deluded fans.

22 Aug 2012 10:33:35
12 million for Carroll, an absolute insult. We're Liverpool not Lidlpool!

It's not an insult, just his true market value. He was never worth £35m, and if you think he is worth £20m, then you are deluded.
(42 games 6 goals is not £20m worth).

Yep, and Torres is currently worth about 8m

22 Aug 2012 10:32:07
This has to be the worst transfer window in liverpool history. Every other team has signed quality players, players who are proven. Liverpool never signed a player in Jan.Jelavic was 6 million and scores goals. We just watch teams improve with relativley cheap quality players while our owners say top 4 is not a issue this season.
I hate to say it but Gary Neville was right on monday night when he we should be aiming higher. Liverpool should be a team going for the title and our squad has never look so far away.Full of overated average players on large wages.Players like Joe Cole, Adam,Henderson Downing,Spearing they would not look out of place at Reading And yet they are at liverpool picking up over 250 grand a week.
BR needs to sign better players or he will not see out the remainder of the season. The owners will not accept to many moe 3-0 defeats. {Ed052's Note - How is it bad. We've signed three quality player, and a couple more will probably come. And players you class as ''deadwood'' have either gone, or probably going}

I'm getting sick of people knocking our signings, Borini was playing for Roma, not exactly a "micky mouse" team! Allen was a star for the GB team and has a good PL season under his belt, Assaidi is unknown! What's great about them all for me is they wanted to come to us, their was no auction because other teams didn't get a look-in.

Sure we would have loved to have Sahin and Tello, obviously BR wanted them too but they didn't want to come, so we move on and BR coaches our team and we improve over the course of the season. He hasn't come to fail if the right signings become available and WANT to sign for us he'll try to get them, but he was employed to get the best out of our team and club!

I'm just glad that the fans don't make the decisions FSG have given him three years, so settle down and let him do his job! Ged

No one wanted Jelavic, when he was linked everyone was moaning as always, it's only because he scored goals they are now retracting. People will only accept being linked with Messi, Cavani, Iniesta...unfortunately some people confuse real life with a computer game

Up until the match against west brom i bet every1 was happy with the dealings.show how fickle people are.

His eds and reds

Its just been one game and people are back to saying we should get owen back, he is a poacher blabla. If im not mistaken thats the reason we bought borini for? Or is it because he didnt manage to score on his first PL game it means we need to replace him? ( he was played out of position as well ) ...anw what im saying is that we need some patience ..im sure BR will bring another couple of signings in which will help but you cant expect miracles...even the great SAF took 5 years or so to win the title...PATiENCE...!

5 mate not 22...

ManU had not won the title for 23 years...read on it.

To the best of my knowledge BR wasn't in charge for the last 22yrs so I fail to see the relevance of the 2nd posters criticism, Simonpw

That 5 was part of 24 in between titles, you're not the only one who can manipulate figures to make their point! GED

Agree to everything except for great SAF

22 Aug 2012 10:04:26
Morgan fits with BR style of play but big Ngoo can be Carrolls long term replacement for time when we need a big target man against certain team. In time he will be a great player for us. Morgan I htink is slightly ahead in development for the 1st team. He is a class poacher in and around the box.

Personally Id play Morgan through the middle of Suarez and Borini. I remember the times when young fresh faced reserves stepped up early, Fowler and Owen were given chances and by god we miss the excitement that once surrounded a kid becoming an idol. If we get a world class striker then thats great I just remember the days when we made them rather than looked in expensive markets for them.

Good post mate

didnt he bag 20 odd goals in the rerdivisie last season

Didn't he score about 17 penalties though?

22 Aug 2012 10:00:50
To be honest, I will be happy with Liverpool as long as we are never, ever linked with Carlton Cole again. Just think, atleast we haven't signed Poulson, Jovanovic and Konchesky this window. We have a solid midfield, a good defensive partnership, an experienced goalie and an attack that keeps getting bigger and better. We have suarez, Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Agger, Reina, Skrtel and some new talent with a brilliant youth squad coming up.

Its only looking up for Liverpool and I think we so long as we block out that last game we will give the Premier League a great surprise.

Could not agree more players just need to buckle down. Dempsey would be good though as he is versatile player, strong, good finisher and brings some valuable experience to the squad.

I have just had a look at the database being provided by Man City on all footballers in the premiership, extremely interesting !

The data is free to everyone and can be downloaded by request on their website direct to you email address.

Of course a lot of different interpretations can be obtained from the data but it is an extremely interesting read.

Not surprisingly RVP heads the list as the most potent striker, but our own Luis is very near the top. They measure lots of stats such as strength, heading ability, dribbling skills, tackles etc.

A lot of our players are surprisingly near the top of some categories, such as Charlie Adam who has high creativity marks, along with Luis Suarez. Jamie is obviously down the pecking order in this category, but hes good in other areas! Each category can be filtered to allow more anaylsis.

A remarkable strategy by Man City to release this info, some really good free data to be had here guys!

ps In terms of site layout etc we could learn a lot from the Man City website, its format is very good and easily accessible, unlike our own at times which can be a little boring to say the least !

Happy analyzing and Im sure the info will be the subject of many discussions and arguments on here in the future!

What players do eds reckon will NOT be playing for Liverpool once deadline day has gone?

Cheers Mark lfc2012 {Ed052's Note - Oooo, good one. I'm not sure. I'm going to say Spearing and thats it. But it could change after I have seen tomorrows teamsheet}

22 Aug 2012 10:16:14
Seeing how our transfer budget is strict, what young relatively unknown wingers would be worth a punt - in a similar vein to Assaidi (quick skillful dribblers).
I should add that as we are all more aware of British players I'd not include them in this, also not the usual suspects of Ramirez, Tello, etc. I'm keen to see how many players, of whom few of us have heard and would cost modest amounts but have lots of potential, are available. Any suggestions people? (Eds included). {Ed052's Note - I think a young, unknown player, similar to Assaidi will be brought in, along with another, more well known player, e.g. Dempsey, Johnson}

FSG have got no clue how football club is run especially top club like liverpool

They say we need champions league:
How will we get champions league without buying quality players

They say we are running at lose so we can't spend on quality players:
But 80% of clubs in europe are running at lose and still playing in highest level. I don't understand our owners coz if they don't spend then we won't finish in top4 if we don't finish in top4 then losses will get bigger and bigger and we will need to sell our star players in order to survive.

A lot of fans are saying we can't buy the likes of higuain or cavani or falcao or lorente coz they are expensive but a lot of fans are forgeting that these players are going to help us reach top4 and be asset to our club. Whenever we want to sell them We can double their prize and sell them so its a win situation both as a club we will progress and as a bussiness we Will have asset and good chance of champions league which will come with revenue if not(champions league) then we have got asset to make profit

Do you blame FSG for being slightly more wary this summer after the performances of Downing, Carroll and Henderson last season? Despite potential, FSG spent 71 million pounds on those players and they were poor last season.I don't blame them for being more careful. Yet they've still signed three young players who anyone can see have a great deal of quality. We may be lacking in some areas of the squad, but overall I'd say we've had a good summer, thanks to the owners' support

Red Ollie

Not quite as simple as that mate

Say we pay 40M for cavani he will only get older and in 3 years time he may be worth considerably less than 40M

To the person who wrote this

'Say we pay 40M for cavani he will only get older and in 3 years time he may be worth considerably less than 40M'

If his goals won us the league or got us into the champions league, he'd be worth every penny.

Lil Red

Similarly if he scores 6 in 40 his price would fall to propably less than 20 making him a liability

EDS I would be extremely grateful if you could reply please. we have been led to believe that money is available if the right player comes along. However the right type of player we need,when suggested here, is met with the same reply, we don't have the money.Surely the powers to be must realise the cost of attracting such players especially when CL is not a carrot we can dangle. Is it possible FSG under estimated the task they faced and are structuring the club in order to sell. Againi would be grateful for a reply.

Many thanks
dub11 {Ed052's Note - We have money to spend, which will be added to by sales. Rodgers will identify his targets, and we will buy the most suitable players, e.g. not ripped off}

We have been ripped off the last 2 years Ed...If you hadn't notice.

22 Aug 2012 09:54:51
why don't liverpool sign scott sinclair 5m instead of getting man citys adam johnson for 10m and cut out the middle man hes likely to want a move to liverpool as brendan is in charge and he is more suited to our style as we play a 4-3-3 so why not its only 5m for a quality player who wouldnt need much adapting as we play his style of football and he already knows the manager so well

That would make to much sense, lets stick with what we are good at, signing over priced players that cant score!

Rumours of liverpool signing Johnson are wide of the mark according to the Liverpool echo. He ain't coming.

Aldos tash

Why is it that nearly everyone's opinion of Scott Sinclair pretty much a gash one till City fancy the player than its get him he could do a job? You can add Victor Moses too. No one wanted him one iota until Chelsea wanted to sign him now its why we not making a move for that guy. Printable words really do fail me of the intelligence of some fans.
Jonson

I don't personally rate Sinclair. Without penalties he'd have only scored 4 last season. I'd much rather sign Dempsey than compete with City's wage packet.

Red Ollie

Totally agree Jonson, lots of people saying not to get ex Swansea players cos we are LFC but as soon as Man City bid for him he is suddenly a great player, personally I'd take him over A Johnson all day long!!

Sell Downing, Bring in Ramirez.

Sell Carroll, Bring in Rondon.

Sell Adam, Spearing and try off load Cole, bring in Wanyama.

That would leave us with a decent squad. {Ed052's Note - Rondon has already moved clubs this summer}

Not sure about you guys but im getting a bit depressed, all top four clubs and newcastle and spurs have or are about to have upto 4 quality strikers. While these clubs have been busy getting their targets we are dithering and still scouting. Most of the strikers have been bought or in between transfers and here we are still looking. We spent £100 last year and compare that to what Chelsea have bought for about the same amount. I said during the last season that Champs League is vital and some of you were more then happy just to win a little cup. If no good quality strikers are bought in (not many left) before the window shuts then its bye bye champs league again. MrT

First of all - last season's partially-wasted
transfer funds are no reflection on what happens this time. Different people making the choices !
Second - for God's sake stop moaning about lack of signings at least until the window closes. I have said before on this site - we want the right signing rather than the quickest.
In addition - if a player will not come to Liverpool (for ANY reason) there is nothing we can do about.
Let's have a bit of realism here - we cannot force players to sign for us ! We do not have billionaire owners who use the football club as their latest toy so there has to be some common sense on fees and wages. If people cannot see and accept this then what hope is there of ever having a meaningful conversation with them?

Puzzled

I thought we wasted a lot of money last summer & I know we didn't get c/l but as your saying we only spent 100 quid then that's good business ....Steve

Not about spending 100 million last year. Did FSG pull that money out of their own pockets? No a substantial amount of that came from sales. It's not about sacking Kenny and giving BR a chance, what chance does BR have of getting top 4 without the money to fund it properly, there are players out there that will play without champions league football if they believe that the club is on the right path to get it soon, man city did it, FSG have the cash to do this but won't, it's a sad state for such a big club having owners that won't accept that without putting the money in for top players, with out this initial out lay we will constantly be left behind by more and more clubs. If this is what they wanted to do with a club they should have bought a club with out the history and expectations. Our club deserves owners that will put their money where their mouths are, sacked Kenny for not getting top 4, yet they quite happy not to give the new manager the funds to get into the top 4

I gave up on the CL when kenny paid 20 million for downing.

Since NewCastle have bid 12m for Andy Carroll which nothing less than an insult we should reject by saying that he is un-affordable for Newcastle

Sorry KD overpriced Carroll as he was blinded by the £50M for Torres.Dont blame NUFC if they think you payed over the odds.£12M is over the market price for a striker who is rubbish according to most of the comments on this site.
Make your mind up time.

Yeah I agree as that will really show Ashley won't it. I mean just rejecting the offer as too low just isn't good enough is it?

I think we should just sign Dempsey, hopefully shift Cole, and make that it. I think bids for players such as Michael Dawson and a back-up left back would improve on the defensive replacements we have, but I can't see that happening and I'd have no problem with the rest of the team. First-teamers Henderson, Downing and Carroll of last season will be back-ups. The promotion of youngsters such as Sterling will also improve our squad.

Hi edd's great work,

we are a little over a week now to the close of the transfer window and there has been no talk of a striker, apart from dempsey who really is someone who plays behind the striker! we need a real number 9 again, or a micheal owen!

with owen, fowler, torres, riedle even sean dundee we never failed to score. suarez is our playmaker - he's world class but he has no world class striker next to him.

we won the champions league with traore at LB, we can win things again! the key this time round is something similar to gerrard-torres, it needs to be suarez-llorente or huntelaar or anyone who knows where the net is, they cant miss them this season they are red!!!

please post this to see the thoughts of the other reds

We would never lost out on players in the past to spurs or arsenal - but we are sig and sahin.

YNWA

H RED

We didn't lose sig to tottenham we refused to pay the asking price.. Why don't people understand that? {Ed052's Note - Well said. We said no to him, not the other way around}

The day Torres left was the day our high scores stopped bar maxi for that season

22 Aug 2012 09:19:21
Kaka is not coming sahin is not coming,Johnson is not coming. we will sign williams and david villa

I'm still confused why people keep going on about david villa. He plays for probably the best team in the world and he's probably on double the wages of what we can afford

Hi Eds,

Few things in the Irish Media this morning, Rodgers could be looking at Aiden McGeedy, as he is in the last year of his contact and is the cheaper option all round, also the old chestnut of Celtic's Wenyama (spelling) has again been fired around again. Any chance of either of these happening or is it just pie? {Ed052's Note - Maybe}

No thanks,Aiden Mcgeady is extremely frustrating
NAVANRED

Ok, i assume youre irish as you are sourcing irish medi. If we buy McGeady it would be 10 steps backwards, having watched this guy play since he was a teenager and never shine even in a poor Republic team, it would be a terrible signing. We have 2/3 youth team players that would be ahead of him in our squad. I'm f#ckin sick of reading posters going on about spending spending and spending to get in "big name players", these are the same posters who want brendan to give the youth players a go. Ok game #1 didnt go exactly to plan but unlike the "big 4" clubs LFC have a fantaatic youth set up which over the next few years will benefit from greatly. Heads up everyone, a bit of an increase in workrate and effort from the frat gamw ia whats needed and the rest will fall into place. Quit the f#ckin moaning about transfers or pool yer money together and buy the club and yer fantasy football team ( 750m should cover the lot) then keep up silly wage payments on a weeekly basis. Get real and SHUT up. Good years ahead vuys YNWA
BrianG

The enigma that is mcgeady skilful player who can beat a man his crossing can be inconsistent but in Rodgers system I think it would suit him as he could cut the ball back or pass inside (why does British football have an obsession with pumping crosses in non stop? Barca & brazil tend to cut it back as a preference & cross when it is opportune just a thought) Paisley's genius

James Pearce ( from Liverpool Echo) has today clarified the situation with Carroll, Sahin, Tello and Adam John:

Newcastle have made a bid of £12 mill for Andy Caroll, but there is no way LFC are prepared to even consider such an offer.

Rodgers remains hopeful of making another couple of additions to his squad before the transfer window shuts but Manchester City winger Adam Johnson won't be one of them.

Liverpool have distanced themselves from reports linking them with a swoop for the England international and reports they are ready to match City's £10million asking price are wide of the mark.

The Reds are pressing on with other targets but they have given up hope of landing either Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin or Barcelona's Cristian Tello on season-long loans.

Sahin has chosen Arsenal ahead of Liverpool due to the lure of Champions League football, while Tello is no longer available having forced his way into Tito Vilanova's plans at the Nou Camp.

He has also confirmed that Enrique has damaged his knee in training and will miss the trip to Hearts, along with Gerad, Suarez, Skyrtl and Lucas.

If nothing else it helps to clarify some of the issues people have been asking about.

Keep the faith boys !

Tel 1949

Apologies Eds , should have said Johnson not Lucas who misses the trip !

Adam Johnson will NOT be coming to Liverpool FC.

Sahin rumours has it we are back in the game, but difficult to believe.

Walcott will NOT be coming to us either.

So please people, read all the post before you just go on and on and on about the same things that is in the post before you and before that one and even before that one...

There is impossible to guess ( wich most of you do ) who the next one in and out will be. ust wait and see people.

we should offer £1 million for Cisse then seen as players depreciate in value so much, think they have the fog on the tyne in their eyes

Give yourself a shake lad , that's a silly comparison .Cisse scored for fun and Carroll can't score for dear life at the moment. You really need to get away from the whole £35m tag, is it Newcastles thought you bid £35m in your panic on d.day ? ,no is the answer.Plenty of fans said he wasn't worth it at the time .Now you want Newcastle to be mugs like you when his true value is nearer£12m and that's being kind . He will stay with you and you will have less to spend on another srtiker because of it ,sad but true. BR won't swallow the hit on him and Toon won't pay over the odds and I can assure you Ashley won't budge one bit as we already have quality forwards.

22 Aug 2012 09:05:02
What are chances of swallowing pride and signing Owen & Berbatov on pay as you play or short 1 year contract just to buy time. Only cost 3m. They both may be lazy and crocked but could teach some players how to finish. I await backlash.

I d take berbatov for the three million he s being offered to fiorentina for

Hi eds and fellow supporters, been a supporter for over 30 years and I'm great ful to FSG for putting us into a stronger position, however am I the only one who is starting to become worried about the transfers? I no evey one keeps saying that we can't attract the players like we used to and aren't going to pay high wages, but in your opinion eds do you honestly think un less we do start to do this we aren't going to get back into the top 4.

Spurs 5 million for adbeyor, 18 goals last season, talks of them spending on moutino, what a player.

Man city spent big and took a risk b4 they were in the top 4, now they guarenteed top 4 if not title. With out the initial out lay they wouldn't be where they are.

Chelsea massive out lay when abramovich took over, trophies, titles and top 4 follow.

To make the top 4 again and to earn the income from what it brings we need FSG to put the funds into club. They put huge amounts Into their baseball team they need to do the same for LFC.

Fair play isn't going to happen, too many big teams won't make the grade financially so it won't happen.

I love LFC always have always will weather we are fighting relegation or for top 4 I just feel that FSG need to make their minds up if they want us to fight for the top they need to buy the players for us to do this.

Not about the last game but about the last few years we need to move forward, at the moment we not, of hinge carry on can you really see players like sterling and suso turning down moves to city, man u or even spurs I things carry on?

Please post opinions greatly wanted

Totally agree getting top four cant be done on the cheap anymore and if it is its a fluke. the owenrs need to stump up a bt of cash now so that we can get top 4 this season

andbefore people bang on about the 100 million dalglish spent
if you add everything our net spend on transfers since fsg took over is 56-57 million,thats an investment of 14million per transfer window since they arrived

tom1975

Well mediocre players= mediocre team = mediocre results. I do not know why anyone would believe differently. Is is obvious to a blind man on a galloping horse!

Cos arsenal are always spending massivley to get in tht top 4 for wat is it now like 10 years straight

Not FSG apparently, starting to wonder if they've given up on us and have a change of motive {Ed052's Note - Why would they give up on us? DO you listen to anything they actually say?}

Arsenal-i think its more like 14 straight years in the cl

14 straight years without winning cl as well.

{Ed052's Note - Why would they give up on us? DO you listen to anything they actually say?}
Have listened to a lot of what has been said by FSG, but as my wife tells me
It's easy to say things but it's putting things into action that's proves your intent, yes we bough very badly last year, a lot I that money was brought in from sales, not their pockets, they say they want to return us to the top flight of European football, do u honestly think that is goin to happen with things how they are? And they keep talking about the new stadium or redevelopment of anfield, a lot said about that by nothing happening, two years now still no news?
So yeah alot of do listen but unless we their pet project the baseball team we ain't seen the actions to back the words {Ed052's Note - Ridiculous. They mean every world they say. It will all come good. Show faith in them. People wounder why we are investing less, and it wouldn't surprise me that the owners see a lot of you as extremely ungrateful to what they have given us.}

Eds,
I've post lot before but none of them included in this page.

1- we still didnt make any bid for Dempsey like Martin Jol said? we dont have.much time I hope we dont miss another target.

2-do u know any other target besides Nuri Sahin for defensiv midfield to cover Lucas? Jay spearing i hope he will go on loan.

thanks Eds.
ItsJimmyAgain {Ed002's Note - Fulham are aware of what Liverpool wish to pay for Dempsey and it is less than they want. Sahin would not have been considered as simply cover for Lucas. Unless players leave I really don't see a need for further cover in midfield.}

So NUFC have offered a take it or leave it bid of 12mill for AC,well I would tell them very politely where to go,an absolute insult

alan50

LFC did themselves no favours by buying him for 3 times what he was worth. The club will end up taking a big loss on him and they only have themselves to blame, Im afraid. There is nothing they can do about it. They were screwed with this deal from the start and it will cost them now.

BrisbaneLFC

The club is not to blame. Dalglish and Commolli messed up big time. How i wish newcastle had rejected our bid for carroll, n dalglish had never been given the job permanently. We would have been in a much healthier position.

Spurs are close to signing Williams and Damiao according to some media, and we go and waste are money on players that will not take as to the next level.
I just cant beleive how LFC has managed to become a mid table team, how r we suppose to compete with the likes of Manchester teams, Spurs, Arsenal Chelsea and even Newcastle this is so depressing.

22 Aug 2012 08:23:02
Not a liverpool rumour but spurs have signed Adebayor for around £5m. A bargain for a guy that is capable of scoring 20 goals a season.
Also Sahin is in talks with Arsenal over a season long loan. So we can put that one to bed.

Red Lee

And his wages are......?

Still cheap even if his wages are sky high

ED its on ssn that man city are paying 55% of his wages,and thats for the hole of the 5 year deal.now what a deal that is for the spud's.hope we get so sort of luck like that with johnson if we go for him.jay essex red for life red till dead {Ed052's Note - haha, its not fair, but it happens}

22 Aug 2012 08:03:13
If this interest in Adam Johnson is true I just don't get it...city are trying to offload him because he's bottom
of the pile of wingers they have now. So they consider Scott Sinclair better than him. Why are we scouring the floor waiting for City to throw us scraps? We could have gone for Sinclair, who is cheaper and better and worked with BR before! Also, when we were linked with Scott Sinclair, people were saying he's not good enough, yet people are banging on about signing AJ like he's amazing! I'd take him on a free, that's it.

Finally some with some sense.

22 Aug 2012 07:50:20
Sahin has gone to Arsenal, Johnson would prefer Spurs, who also stole Sigursson from us. What is wrong at Liverpool. Top players used to be desperate to play for us. Rumour had it that even Paul Gasgoine had a clause in his Spurs contract that he could leave if Liverpool came calling. How much further can the mighty fall?

Becoz..we dont have stars in our team...and we only have history...not seeing a future...
and we cant pay the money they want...
if we could have pulled sig to join us..story would have been different against WBA...
we missed him...
we dont have a striker...we need an attacking midfielder to replace gerrard..
we also need a winger..
3 signings in 9 days...????

Is that the same siggurdson who BR wouldnt pay over the odds wages to, and who was so instrumental in Spurs opening day victory by many goals. I also dont recall BR saying we were after anyone to be honest, as what he said in the last press conference was" that's who you say wer after" referring to the press, then assaidi signed the next day.Liverpool will sign who Liverpool sign, we will all know soon enough. From what I see we are 3 points off 1st place, hardly the end of the world, level on points with plenty of top four contenders and 1 potential winner according to most, Simonpw

If i remember correctly this is a building process. its not going to happen in one season, what with the players we have shipped out and brought in. id be happy with 5/6th position, then we can really make a push 13/14 season for champions league.
i would settle for that.

All the big guns spending big once again, and as we cry out for a striker LFC splash the cash (couple of bob) on an unknown winger.....
Mid table I suspect this season (or should I say hope)..

Ed is there any news of a top striker arriving at LFC any time soon...?

Thank (1st time post on here)

Buffer {Ed002's Note - "Top" meaning what? Cavani? Aguero?}

Agree that we need a top class striker but with no money to splash its going to be hard,players just dont seem to want to come to are mighty red at the min,we are just not drawing the top player's in anymore,but as alway's im walking on with hope,we could still pull a rabbit out the bag yet.jay essex red for life red till dead

Top could also mean players like Callejon. Can't see us getting those either. So stop the defending of our poor management Eds {Ed052's Note - I'm defending the best management in the Premier league, not the worst}

What about a punt on Michael Owen?
I know the alliance with the isn't good, but I'd of had Ronaldo/Rooney/VanNistlerooy from them if they were available!!
Owen has a fantastic scoring record wherever he's been (in terms of starts for Mancs) and although he's lost his pace, he knows where the net is. After all, we need a poacher. Why not take one for free on a Pay as you Play deal for a year? We have nothing to lose and I believe he'll be good for the dressing room.
Just think about this before slagging the post off. I think if we miss out on him and end up spending what little money we have on an unproven striker in the EPL or an overrated winger, we'll only have ourselves to blame!

Spasmith

Id prefer Defoe to Owen. Id prefer Darren Bent. Heck, Id prefer Djibbil Cisse back.

Im not really bothered who we get as long as they score and they're not a paedophile

No ways on God's green Earth I'd take that man back. Not after his 'all the time I played for Liverpool I hoped Fergie would come in for me' comments when joining the Mancs. Besides, he's too old, too uninterested and too crocked.

Too old? 32yrs old. How olds Stevie? How olds Carra? How olds DiNatale/Forlan? Defoe is 30yr old now also. And will cost money due to form and lack of cover at spurs.

Hi Ed's

I see the anti depressant brigade have been out in force the last few day's.

I dont think we were that bad on Saturday,yes we got beat.It was not as if we were the poorer team we just did not finish our chances. The next few games will show if we are heading in the right direction or yet another season of mediocrity. I for one will allow BR time to mould the team and get them to play his way.There have been signs of this but against the bigger teams we will see how effective we are .The midfield is always the key area in these games and if no help is received from the front men then the danger is they will be over run ......

We still need to add a couple more players in before the window closes.

ED, I wonder why my numerous postings never appear here. Any way, I live in the United States where the the owners live. The fact is looking at how King Kenny spent last year on transfers and our position on the table(8th), the owners don't want to spend much but let's face the fact; if Man U, Chelsea, New Castle, Arsenals, Tottenham and City who were ahead of us are spending and strenthening their squad then why not us? Suarez is a decent player but he squanders most of chances that come his way and he sometimes being selfish. Our talisma Gerrard is getting old so is a hard time the owners sign the cheque book once again even if we need to pay "slightly" above the value of the targets to get us into Champions league. After that, we can attract the stars we used to. Many players don't see Liverpool today as the yester years. We need a good finisher to push us to Top 4. The owners should be aware and I have been written a lot of letters to them. Thanks for your good work. {Ed002's Note - After a while duplicates are just deleted. The money was never going to be available for another spending spree. BR is doing what he can on a tight budget. If Carroll or Agger can be sold then perhaps you will see the more "expensive" signing the fans desire.}

Hopefuly brendan will sell carrol who is our main forward if he isnt going to play, and replace him, we cant play 4-3-3 without a main CF we dont have the ability that spain have to do this, we need suarez playing on the right or left with a CF through the middle personaly id rather have borini through middle than on wing as he is a good finisher, eds if we could sell carrol for around 15 million and with apparently extra funds being given to BR, realisticly which strikers would be an option, baring in mind a striker who wouldnt not need champions league or silly amounts of money, id love us to spend 20 million on adam johnson and adebayor, if adebayor took a pay cut, i think hes proven quality and cheap, and we need a quality winger, then we have borini as back up striker, your thoughts please?

Dude..no one wants to come...its not always money...players need a mindset to play for us...

Clint Dempsey can score goals. He wants to come to our club. If this transfer does not happen, we will have shot ourselves in the foot. I have watched the Sigurdsson guy play for Tottenham, and we did miss out. I applaud Rodgers for his stance, but realistically, he would have fit in well and linked well with Suarez.

Lucas is not ready to be a starting 11 yet. He is not up to fitness and not that sharp just yet. Personally, I would put Hendo in middle with Allen and Gerrard. Suarez/Demsey/winger up front.

Go Reds!

Are u kidding me?? hendo in the middle?
can he tackle? break up the play?
can he score?
what has he donw for 16 mill in one full season for liverpool????
does he need some more time?

Jon Jo in the middle he is cover for Lucas

22 Aug 2012 01:42:49
We should go for Lizandro Lopez yeah sure he is 29 but we need his finishing. he can also play as a wide forward so he isn't just restricted to one position.

I'm guessing be could pick him up for around £13-15m

along with him we should move adam out and get Dempsey in. Dempsey's versatility is rare and needed because lets face it our midfield and forwards have the tendency to not perform for some reason. having more players of the quality of Clint available would only help keep the team fresh throughout the season.

Cavani is our only hope of a top forward to push us to fight with the top 4. city have come in and blew everyone out the water! If FSG were serious they would of at least went after him and matched there offer to show a statment of intent!

100 mill...yes 100 mill..they showed last seaosn..
kk bought ants and mosquitoes with it...
you wnna them to pay another 100?
there are no trees in US who print the money like you do...

It's pretty evident that we need another striker and winger, so my question is Ed's; are we looking at Huntelaar and Afellay? and would they be interested in the move? They both would IMO get us competing for that much desired fourth spot. Huntelaar, who van Gaal once described as 'in the penalty area, the best in the world' only cost FC Shalke €12m when he joined, and is reportedly having trouble negotiating a new contract, so he wouldn't be that much dearer than Dempsey, no? and Ib Afellay is seemingly not in Barcelona's plans, so he would be relatively cheap as well. Both are proven talents, unlike Borini and Assaidi. Please post on the rumours page.

How far do we sink before FSG accept the club is going backwards? Macca last season told us that the owners would buy a higher quality of player once we qualified for champions league. I think the owners need to wake up and realise that you need to buy quality to qualify.

Tello, Sahin Dempsey were targets. What has happened none have arrived. Every Liverpool fan that comes onto this website, fans you speak with at the match, in the pub realise we need a striker who can actually put the ball in the net. What has happened-nothing. Who is actually handling transfer negotiations.

The stadium issue still has not been addressed. We are told that the owners want to make the right decision. It has now taken 2 years and they still can't decide.

We have just been beaten by West Brom 3-0. They beat us at Anfield 1-0 at the end of last season. What is going on. I am sick of the PR crap that comes out of Anfield from players saying dont worry etc, we are in shock blah, blah, blah. Honestly fellow fans if we played Wigan, Fulham, Southampton are you confident we could win?

We have 10 days left of the transfer market. We have games against Man City and Arsenal coming up. Will someone at the club please pull their fingers out of their backsides and sign some quality. Allen, Borini and Assaidi are these the exciting signings Rodgers was referring too? I don't think so.

Everything coming out of the clus is negative. I paid a lot of money for my season ticket and hear the manager telling me to expect more defeats like the West Brom game. If that's your attitude then leave now Rodgers because we won't accept that. Werner tells us we need champions league football. What are you doing about it to qualify then?

Christ..you should maybe sell your season ticket to a real fan....you go on like the club is disarray...are you expecting miracles straight away?

Being at Anfield when the fans were protesting then watching us get beat 2-1 at home to Blackpool, yeah there were a few unhappy fans..do you have the link as to where Rogers mentioned about to expect more defeats like the west brom one?

As for the stadium that isn't something that is going to happen overnight, they want to do their best to keep us at Anfield...its well known there is plenty Red Tape around that with the council etc? they paid of that monkey firm who were designing the "new" stadium but being a season ticket holder and a proper fan you would surely be aware of all this right?

Yeah we do need a bit more depth in our squad with striker as do most teams..but we are not city or Chelsea and wont through stupid wages at players that just want cash.

Al

what's happening with all our transfers we've bought 3 players in and on a personal level only allens got my juices flowing,would any of the other teams in and around us have signed them,why arnt the owner's getting deals finished, dempsey, we've lost out on loan signings sahin, tello didn't want to leave barca (can't blame him) I love lfc with all my heart but feeling very very frustated, and. A bit deflated I'm thinking top 6 will be the best we can hope 4

Sturridge is very selfish. not for me thanks

I have been reading quite a few fans have been saying Liverpool missed on this or that players and no one wants to play for us. My question is how do you know We were or are interested on those player?..let me tell you its media..We have big fan following and each day we are on average linked with one new player and if we last 90 days i have seen around 50-60 players linked with us by media..there is never a day where we don't hear about some player linked to Liverpool, reason behind is this is media s job and our club is not stupid enough to comment on each rumour about players..Lets just look at few names, Kalou, Diame, Moses, Rodellga, McCarthy, Ki, Forrest, Dawson, Lennon, Matt Philips, Cavani, Honda, Lavezzi, Sakho, Godin, Mathias Suarez, Sahin, Tello, Granero, Elm, Merralies, Buena, Sigurdasson, Llorente, Higuain, Classiy, Ericksson, Luke De jong, Quresma, Williams, Sinclair, Adam Johnson, Sturidge, Kjear, Callejon, Dempsey, Ramirez, Ba, Alonso, Isco, Salmon Randon and hundreds more.. you guys think we were interested on all those and have such a massive scouting system to asses that many random names? I don't think so as i believe media and some websites are making up rumours to sell their storyline and we made to believe interest from Lfc. In real world only few were and are targets and rest of them made rubbish.. I would not bother about these rumours and would rather wait and see until end of august to see who we bring in, yes cant wait for signing for us but too many rubbish stories flying around and would be nice to get some random announcement by LFC like Assaidi as there is no debate about player good enough to joining team as was surprise signing..hope more to follow like that...

Harry Oldbury

Honda would be nice. Please.

How is it we continuously get screwed when we buy or sell players, Dawson who doesn't even play goes for 7.5 mill, hats off to tottenham, they always seem to get money back for players, look at crouch last season they got 10mill for him, while we sell first team players like kuyt for 1 mill and aqau for 5.5 mill. Honestly Liverpool wake the **** up and stop letting teams insert into our rear.

Dawson played the Majority of games for spurs!

They never got 10 million for Crouch

If your going to shoot your mouth off
get at least one fact Right!!

Aqua would have stayed if not sold for that kind of money. Kuyt was worth more i agree

gareth

I think the Torres deal more than makes up for the next few years. Bargain.

cozinoz

The thing is the with the kuyt saga it was KD that put that in his contract clause that he could leave for 1 mil {Ed002's Note - Dalglish did not write the contracts.}

Evening, just seen ken aguero, he was asking where everyone's sense of humour had gone to on this site.

ed's, away from transfers can you let us know how readily br would use the youngsters this season ? it depresses me to see all the promising kids at club never truly given a proper crack in the team. and when they are its usually the defensive type players.

i think ken was referring to me.

randy watson {Ed002's Note - He'll use them but remember some are still very young.}

If we're in desperate need of a LB cover I think we should try bring back Riise, he would give good competition to Entiwue and Robinson would learn a lot from our 05 CL winning LB

Irish Redman

Why do we always need to go back and not forward?

Liverpool FC's biggest issue is trying to get back what has gone. History is great but there's no future in it

cozinoz

I'm not going on the sense of past, as we all seen Enrique was poor for the 2nd half of last season due to no competition while Riise could be brought in cheap ( about 1m) and will offer competition to Enrique and probably start ahead of him and the 2 years that he would be here will give our Jack Robinson time to develop fully,

22 Aug 2012 00:11:32
After the last couple of seasons we have had and all the crazy goings on in the transfer window and rumours and failed bids i really feel like LFC shouls set out a 4 year plan. Spend big on one player every window and pumpmore money into youth development. Get our players from the reserves and the odd major signing. Instead of all this crazy spending and rumours.

22 Aug 2012 00:10:59
Liverpool should sell Carroll for 18. Then head straight to Bilbao and offer straight cash after guillem ballgue said Spanish clubs are skintight! That's a real goals corer a class act. Suarez left and assaidi. We would get top four. Cheers

Offer cash for who?
I suspect an offer of 18m for Carroll would result in the offerers hand getting bitten off.

we need hooper a proper goal poacher

Hi ed's, with pep segura leaving. How about a shout of king kenny to take over academy director or what ever position segura had? Do u know if 1. Kenny would be interested? 2. Henry and FSG be interested 3. Brendan feel threatened or uneasy with KK around? Anyway just a shout! Also are we still interested in ally cissokho (or has he already moved) ?
Thanks ED's

Both FSG and Rogers don't want to see sight nor sound of Kenny

With the way FSG treated Kenny how can you comtemplate that they would ever contact him again?

He didn't exactly give loads of them a chance when he was manager did he!

hi eds what do you think of a transfer merry go around.
adam johnson to spurs
aaron lennon to liverpool
stuart downing to sunderland.

its just a rumour i thought of whilst reading this page.

Do you think we will sign anyone else this summer because i belive we still need a goalscorer, winger and a guy that can beef up our midfield like yaya toure for mancity.

21 Aug 2012 23:03:55
Not a rumour, more of a question for the eds.
How are we not in for Sinclair, seems like the type of player we need, we know he plays well in BR's system. Just feel like for only the 5 mil thats been reported as the kind of fee that will take him to city that we're missing out.
Also why do we seem to pay so much more than other clubs for players that aren't really in a different class to players like Sinclair for example? {Ed002's Note - I would have expected interest in Sinclair.}

21 Aug 2012 23:32:37
Is it possible for us to get Gary Hooper (Celtic FC) if Andy leaves?

Eds do you think Assaidi will start on Sunday? Also do you think AJ rumours are true if so what will be happening with Downing? Cheers.

Luke JFT96 {Ed019's Note - I think Assaidi will play a part. Downing will stay

Why is Downing staying?

^^^ would you buy him?

Beat Hearts and the dreamers be dreaming again. Fact in the Leauge we wernt and arent good enough! Hurtful yes, true-facts tell us-yes!

Is that what you were saying when we won the cup last year?! It was one game get over it. There no need to panic just yet.

Imagine I'll get slated for this, but am curious what others think. To me, having the vast majority of clubs losing money every year is not a sustainable proposition for the Premier League.

Some clubs (mainly Chelsea and ManCity) can maybe afford this, but for the others, especially those trying to push into the top half of the table, this will long term end in disaster. I don't think the FFP thing is going to work- there are enough loopholes to drive a bus through and those with the power/money will arguably just use it to keep the smaller clubs out of the top positions baring a ton of luck.

What I think might help even the odds somewhat is a playoff system with the eventual winner being the one who gets the big check. To me, if the Premier League were to institute a single-game elimination tourney at the end of the season (say top 16 or so, seeded 1 v 16, 2 v 15, etc.) this would surely help smaller clubs gain funds over their bigger rivals and help balance the playing field a bit for all? Personally I think that on any given day the worst team in the PL can beat the best one, but over 38 games this isn't likely to happen.

Guess I just think something needs to change as otherwise the majority of the teams in the PL are going to get hurt very badly trying to stay competitive with clubs that don't care if they're financially sound necessarily.

What? the point of playing 38 games is so the best team wins the league. i do admit something has to be done but that is far too extreme.
derryred

I have to say I am surprised that the EPL doesn't have a playoff as it would be a financial windfall. The interest in the tournament would be huge. You could still keep the regular reason important by keeping Champions League qualification based solely on the regular season standings.

16 teams would be way too many though. I think at most you have 10 teams in the tournament and give the top 6 byes. Have the first round be 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9. Then the quarters be 1 vs (winner of 8 vs 9), 2 vs (winner of 7 vs 10), 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5.

I realize it goes against tradition but I am surprised they haven't done it cause like I said it would make a crapload of money.

Already been done! it's called "Super bowl", it's a fair Idea but unfortunately the Turkeys (big clubs) arn't going to vote for Xmas and any PL decisions require the votes of all PL members. Ged

Spot on with your league assessment. I think in the next 10 years or so we will see big clubs go the way of Rangers when the owners decide they have spent too much and either stop putting their hands in their pockets or leave. We can see how hard it is for Liverpool to regain a place at the top table once you miss out for a couple of seasons. 150m spent just to tread water in the league.
The big problem as I see it is that dropping 2 or 3 places in the league is so disastrous to the finances for any club that they can't risk young players and so players aren't being brought through for club or country. A minimum u21 squad requirement on a match day might help or a squad salary cap so you can spend big wages on an aguero but sacrifices need to be made to bring the rest of the sqaud in on budget. Just ideas and there will definitely be downsides to those too.
You would be gutted if your team went through the season unbeaten with a 20 point lead, lost key players to injury and went out in the play offs to a team that squeezed into 16th and ended up with nothing to show for it.
It's easy to moan now because we've been on the good end of this unfairness for many years but currently the league is at its least competitive in my memory. If the fans get fed up and outpriced then the money goes and the game will suffer.
The game will survive though and as long as the fans support the club there will always be a club to support.
That's a cheery one - I've depressed myself.

Simon

The structure of the leagues and cups does not need to change. This sell out post season playoffs business does not work for me at all (outside of the existing promotion piece). Football, being a worldwide sport, is much harder to manage than many of the single/limited country sports e.g. NFL, AFL, where one body can set up rules that work across single leagues. Football has to deal with many different scenarios and therefore things like salary caps, are near impossible to regulate and structure. The other concern is of course that if restrictions get too tight, then there is the threat of a breakaway Champions League and therefore regulators are r******* in the decisioning scope.

Andy K

We know its been 22 years now, but you are going to have to learn to win win the leauge like everybody else. No short cuts

They do it in Australian Rules football and it sucks. A team could win every single game 5-0 and lose their final game 1-0....and come away with nothing for the year.
I agree something needs to be done to level the playing field somewhat but this is not it.

cozinoz

There is no maybe about it Chelsea and Man City can afford it.

FFP rules will be about as successful as Vana White on crimestoppers

To the original poster - this is just about identical to what happens in rugby league.
Originally there were so many teams that it wasn't possible for each team to play all the others twice. Therefore they thought we will have a play-off at the end of the season so that the poor sods who have had to face Warrington twice could have another chance.
'Too many teams' etc etc doesn't apply now of course but the play-offs are a big money-spinner.
BUT the drawback is the one mentioned by other posters. You can finish top of the league (and get the league leaders shield) but NOT win the play offs. So in theory the team finishing eighth at the end of the normal season can end up winning the 'championship'
It can stick in the craw.. but in rugby people are now used to it.
In football it will never be accepted

Puzzled

Not a chance mate ffs imagine they had of brought somthing like this in, in the 80ies lfc supporters would have went on national strike.im not an lfc fan and i sympathise with you in your predicament,but you cant complain about others having roast beef and gravy now when in the past you had it every day,c,mon for goodness sake

Heard tonight lfc have started talks with cfc about the transfer of Daniel Sturridge? Anybody else heard this?

I don't see how Chelsea can logically sell Sturridge. If we do then we only have Torres and perhaps Piazon as back up, although i see Piazon as more of a CF/CAM than an out an out striker. Unless some major activity occurs on the strikers front, i doubt Chelsea will sell.

Rowan {Ed002's Note - If an acceptable bid were made for Sturridge and the kid wanted to go, then Chelsea would not stand in his way. As of Friday, Liverpool had not approached Chelsea about Sturridge.}

Preety sure you'll get either a no or lfc haven't even contacted chelsea from ed002 soon enough :D

Ed's are you confident of us signing clint Dempsey and do you think he's the type of player we really need?? { Ed019's Note - Yep}

21 Aug 2012 23:00:52
eds who exactly are we interested in at the moment?do you know of any deals that are close or do you expect much movment before the end of the window? a lot of fans coming on here just seem to post unrealistic targets and rumours they seem to just make up! {Ed019's Note - I think there will be quite a bit of movement }

21 Aug 2012 22:48:33
Hi eds. Havent posted for a while. Just a couple of questions id like to be cleared up please. What are the chances of us getting johnson and dempsey before the window closes. And do you know of any strikers were after. I really hope we get 3 more signings before the 1st. Much appreciated as always {Ed019's Note - Good chance. And Ed009 has suggested interest in Sturridge. I expect that if Carroll goes, a replacement will be ready right away }

Man have we not signed anyone? Is everything I've reading a lie or am I going crazy?

Just copied and paste this from the bbc site.

Fast forward again and last season we had 'QPR: The Four Year Plan', a film which left you wondering if the people who had bought the famous London club had a clue, let alone a plan.At West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, Liverpool's players were under similar scrutiny. American TV network Fox Sports has had its cameras following Liverpool's every step since the back end of last season.On Saturday they had a camera in the dressing room before the game, at half-time and after the match.The documentary will be shown as a six-part series on both sides of the Atlantic, with screening scheduled to start in the US on 16 September. Details have yet to be confirmed, but it is understood that it will be shown in the UK at a similar time on Channel 5.Presumably the rationale behind the documentary was to heighten awareness of the brand in their owners' home market; to make Stevie G and Co stars Stateside.'This will be an amazing opportunity for our fans to see a new side of the club," said chairman Tom Werner.Nice idea .....on paper.First the cameras captured Liverpool capitulating in the race to qualify for the Champions League, then Liverpool losing the FA Cup Final. They then saw Liverpool sacking Kenny Dalglish and appointing Brendan Rogers before the side were thumped in their opening game of the new campaign.The cameras pack and wrap after the match against Manchester City next weekend - perhaps it's just as well.This from a club which, in its glory days, used to pride itself on doing business behind closed doors, and a club which, in recent years, has been fierce in protecting its players from media requests for access and interviews.No doubt when the film is finished it will make fascinating viewing for us; I am much less certain that it will make comfortable viewing for John Henry and Werner - and it's hard to imagine anyone sanctioning Series Two. ( now tell me if im wrong but dont this show us fans how much stress our players are under. I now know why the big drop in form last season came from. This is putting to much stress on players and im actually quite sickened on how this was ever been aloud to happened. Who agrees.

Gezza1982

They're always in the limelight mate. i would be shoked if this were the reason for our poor results.

Turning L.F.C. into a reality TV show??
please someone tell me this is a joke?

NAVANRED

I wish that was why but I doubt it

Really? Blame the loss of a game like this? How about how Liverpool dominated the gane and brom got that wonder goal, a soft red card and two soft penalties. Stop looking to blame the owners it's sad. It was an unlucky game. See what happens at the end of the season.

JerseyRed

Yonks would do anything for money!

This new "Series" of thiers proves they care more about money than success.

They don't care that players don't like cameras in thier faces, or that it makes the players anxious.

What is the purpose of this "Series"? Money!

They're cheapskates. Thier "football model", is about building a successful team by employing the cheapest (wages) players possible. Same concept with managers.

I even believe they have a salary cap.

Anyone seen the movie Moneyball? You'll understand me if you watch it.

The Irony is John Henry's character is portrayed.

It's all about the commerce!

StrabaneRed

Are you seriously blaming the cameras for a drop in form? Do you not think Lucas' absence, a lack of a clinical striker and the lumbar might have contributed or was it simply that our players were star-struck?

The amount of panic out of liverpool fans after one game is crazy people need to give it time nothing is ever a quick fix no matter how much money is spent there will always be issues liverpool football club is not a club built around money and financial power like the man cities and chelsea's of the world its a club built on quality a footballing dynasty the desire to win and ofcourse the famous 12th man the fans. And right now the fans need to get behind br and the club. Watch and listen to bill shankly the faith he showed in the club and what he exspected by us the fans. We should be right now up with the likes of barcelona madrid competing but realistically right now we are a top 6 premier league club with players who could take us up to fighting for the title again all we need is an out and out goalscorer because we can dominate matches through possession and chances but that doesnt work when the chances are converted its hard to be patient because we know this club should be at the top but we need to be.

Its not just one game. Its 20years of frustration. Saturday was the nail on the coffin. Quite embarrassing really but I know we will eventually put it right once fsg allows us to spend some money on players that have got class and can score

Slow poke

We support the club and the players on the pitch its not our fault that they are not good enough , we did not wasre the torres money or fail to sign top class players we have to trust the manager etc but one thing is for sure managers , players and even owners come and go but we the so called moaners stay loyal. red mick tag
