22 Apr 2017 18:12:12
Ed what's your thoughts on gerrard at the academy, everyone's presuming it's a progression until he's first team manager but what if he's not a good coach do you think Liverpool will have the balls to sack him.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not everyone is presuming that. Gerrard has been doing well so far, inspiring the kids. If he turns out to only be able to do that, then he will not progress all the way with Liverpool. The club don't need to sack him, just not promote him until he gets frustrated and takes a job elsewhere.}

23 Apr 2017 12:25:22
At the moment in coaching terms he's like an academy player.

In my opinion it's better that he's with us than with somebody else.

What a player and deserves his opportunity to learn.

Maybe he will progress with the youngsters that he will be coaching next season.

22 Apr 2017 16:57:41
Hi Eds. seen a few rumours of Real madrid .....

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - This is the Liverpool page Craig. Try the Real Madrid page.}

22 Apr 2017 16:28:42
Ed01 is there no chance for markovic under klopp I've watched a few Hull games and he seems to be finally getting consistent games under his belt scored a few goals and looks the player he was at benfica fast direct great and a great touch be a shame if he didn't one more thing what's your opinion on Marco silva he looks like a very good manager doing wonders at Hull.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Markovic didn't want to come back, as he knew he would struggle to get in the team with Mane ahead of him. It is unlikely he will want to now.

Silva is excellent, working wonders there. So impressed with him.}

22 Apr 2017 19:34:45
Hilarious how many ex-pros in the media wrote Silva off as A) he's not British and B) they'd never heard of him.

Such a shrewd appointment.

23 Apr 2017 04:48:51
Very well taken goal by Markovic against Watford after a brilliant counter attack by Hull. If we cannot get our hands on our preferred targets for the wide positions, rather give Markovic another shot than buy someone just for the sake of it. Could be a able backup to Mane.

23 Apr 2017 07:35:30
Agree Indian, buy to improve the side, but if we don't find someone then I'd be happy to see him given another shot.

Always felt he wasn't really given a proper chance under Rogers, seemed to be given very little time to adapt, then played out of position then dismissed far to quickly.

23 Apr 2017 08:05:24
Eds point is he doesn't want to be back up and on the periphery of things he wants and needs game time like he's getting at Hull. Much as I'd like to see him get a chance not sure it's the right move. How long is left on his contract? Would another loan be a good move even staying with Hull if they stay up for another season. The more time he gets in the premiership the more we can see what his potential might be. Ideally in a side that plays similar ish to us.

23 Apr 2017 09:04:19
His mind might change if we finish in the champions league spots 4 competitions to compete more games for everybody actual chance to play in his correct position for the club people do change there minds on occasions and I hope he does,

Anyway thanks for reply ed01.

{Ed001's Note - more games, but not more games for him than he is getting now....

You are very welcome Kloppers.}

22 Apr 2017 15:48:26
Liverpool echo reporting sturridge injured again, you've got to feel for him.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

22 Apr 2017 17:45:28
No surprise at all. Why can't we put him in a different training program?

23 Apr 2017 06:16:25
When was he not injured?

23 Apr 2017 12:26:44
different training program for toddlers.

22 Apr 2017 12:23:01
Rumour has it we are no longer in for Southamptons VVD instead we are waiting to see who they go for to replace him and buy them instead 👍🏻😂.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

22 Apr 2017 12:25:44
Actually makes sense. Would show the football men at LFC have at least learnt some of their lessons. 50 million for VVD is just plain ridiculous.

22 Apr 2017 12:36:43
That would be weird Higgins as apparently they are looking at Sakho.

22 Apr 2017 13:16:23
LOl! Thread of the month! 😄.

22 Apr 2017 16:57:45
Lol. Great thread. I will say that VVD for 50m is madness. Other clubs are welcome to him.

22 Apr 2017 17:00:55
I heard they are looking at Pontous Jansen (Leeds) when VVD leaves.

22 Apr 2017 10:37:14
Hi Eds reading what klopp has said in his interview before the palace game we have already started talking and negotiating with players for next season. Could you give any insight on who these players potentially are? Or if they are the same ones from the sharkopod. Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained what we know.}

22 Apr 2017 12:35:01
Sharkopod RedTed21, give it a listen but I am pretty sure Klopp has other targets in mind which nobody knows about.

It is not to say that the players we are interested in now will even sign for us so best wait for the start of next season as things in the transfer market change on a regular basis but thank heavens we have someone of Ed002's knowledge to keep us in the loop with current targets.

22 Apr 2017 16:58:44
I would propose that Klopp put a lid on it and stop talking about transfers until they are actually done.

22 Apr 2017 11:34:40
Just reading Pearce in the Echo he is saying our targets are the likes of VVD, Brandt, Kieta etc. I don't understand Kieta links though as he seems to be another CM player of which we already have Hendo Can Wijnaldum Lallana Lucas and a few other fringe players. Ed can you explain to me were another CM would fit into the squad please and if we are genuinly looking at Kieta as an option?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - Lucas may well leave, Lallana is fine against the big boys but goes missing against the rest (usually after mouthing off to the press about how he won't), and we have a lot more games next season, hopefully.}

22 Apr 2017 12:22:32
From what I have seen of Keita, he is an absolute beast of a midfielder, a class above anyone we have. If there is an opportunity to upgrade a position in the squad regardless of the numbers already in the squad, then why not? Like Ed001 said, Lucas and Stewart are probably gone and Hendo's injury problems unlikely to go away plus additional European games coming up, Keita would not only shore up the numbers in midfield but also represent an upgrade in quality on both Gini and Lallana.

22 Apr 2017 12:17:13
I'd rather we bought Keita for centre midfield than Oxlade as Keita is a proper centre midfielder not a square peg in a round hole.

22 Apr 2017 12:16:05
Not just Lallana ed, you always use him as an example. Never once seen you use Hendo as an example and for a captain sometimes he's abysmal.

You have your favs.

{Ed001's Note - or perhaps its because he never goes missing. Never once has he been abysmal. Anyway there are enough moronic boo boys like you having a go at Hendo, why should I join in with the stupidity? I use Lallana as an example because he is the main culprit. Always shouting his mouth off and then failing to live up to it. He should learn to shut his mouth and do his talking on the pitch.}

22 Apr 2017 12:41:09
Ox is of no interest to us Mr Dennis and not sure we would be first choice for Keita either.

22 Apr 2017 12:48:56
It seems that some posters dismiss players abilities just because they don't like them. Henderson abysmal? He may not be as effective as he should be in some games (all players get that), but abysmal?
When did slagging your own players off become "the Liverpool way"?

22 Apr 2017 12:50:05
Henderson is not the type which needs his ego to be massaged. He gets onto the pitch and does his talking there, not off of it. That is the resemblance of a true captain.

Milner and Lucas two other players who have enough professionalism about them to wear the armband.

22 Apr 2017 12:53:37
Cheers for reply ed I do appreciate all of your replys. Am I right in thinking Kieta would want CL and assured game time?

{Ed001's Note - it would be more a case of wanting to know what role the manager has in mind for him and CL.}

22 Apr 2017 13:24:50
Henderson has limitations and anyone disagrees are big time fan of the player. You are not going win a tea cup with professionals like Milner and Lucas. The club has been under mediocrity from ages and the fans are used to utter failures. Except the odd Couts and Mane we have nothing to show.

A deep lying playmaker who can't turn the ball from his feet towards the opposition in his own half is called Average. A CM is generally supposed to do a lot more than what he does. Doesn't score enough goals for all the running hence he was shipped to DLP role by Klopp and brought a CM in Wijnaldum ( eveb he doesn't score ) .

His passing is so conservative that we relies heavily up on Matip to bring the ball forward or Coutinho dropping into the middle. Now you know why we are linked with Kiera ( CM ) who scores and assists regularly unlike our midfielders!

Hypothetically would you buy Henderson again for £30 mill from Sunderland if you are in CL and need a CM?

Absolutely Not!

Cheers.

22 Apr 2017 14:55:03
Cool down Harry. No one said we are going to win everything with Hendo in the side. But at the moment he is one of the few players in the squad that will bust his gut in every game he plays and his leadership and consistency levels are to be admired. Keita would be a fantastic signing but he will need a partner in midfield and the likes of Gini, Can and Hendo provide solid options.

22 Apr 2017 17:41:01
The Baby face Mr Klopp will soon turn into Mr Ruthless Klopp once the pressure starts to mount on his head. I am looking for a record number of players to be shipped this summer. Keita is just one of the names. The entire midfield will be Re-shaped in an year or two. Wijnaldum would be the only survivor according to me!

{Ed033's Note - What! you mean Dr Jurgen will turn into Mr Klopp after drinking the Kool-Aid?

22 Apr 2017 17:43:23
Harry you really need to brush up on the facts.

Keita has 8 goals and 8 assists this season. Lallana has 7 and 7. Wijnaldum has 5 and 8.

Keita plays as far more advanced role than Henderson normally. Henderson the last season he played higher up got 7 goals and 15 assists.

So in terms of goals and assists, Keita is not streets ahead of our current players. But more importantly Henderson was not dropped deep because he lacked ability in the finally third! He was moved back because he is our best player for the position. 15 assists puts him in the same sort of bracket as players like Ozil, Fabregas, De Bruyne etc in terms of creating goals!

Keita would be a great player, and would play in our team easily. Not because our current midfielders lack an attacking threat though. That is a myth you have fabricated in your head.

22 Apr 2017 19:52:04
Great post, MK. The myth that Hendo is a poor player only exists in people's heads, not in reality especially to those who use their eyes to watch the games closely instead of just spouting alternative and made up facts like Donald Trump.

As for Keita, I'll be surprised if he signed here if we don't stump up the cash. Why? He just moved to RBL this season and RBL have SEVERELY deep pockets and can match any wages being offered for their players (their words exactly) hence, don't need to sell. If he comes, great. If he doesn't, don't be surprised BUT I'm sure many fans will come on here spouting nonsense about how FSG are stingy with money.

22 Apr 2017 19:25:40
He would become the dark knight Ed033 😎.

22 Apr 2017 21:38:44
This midfield has won nothing for ages and if you persists with the same people you will nothing ever going forward and thank heavens Klopp knows it. He's ill wipe out the average bunches with proper quality footballers. Henderson will be phased out in an year or two. Mark my words. The team has fallen short by a good 12 points of the top.

He is not a CM, not a DM or not even a DLP. We don't eve knows what he is after 5 good years. He has 20 goals in over 180 appearances with Liverpool.

23 Apr 2017 00:46:52
Keita, or his type, is another technical and infatiguable player that we can slot in to the rotation. We don't lack depth of quantity, but definitely a lack of depth in quality. I'd love this signing!

{Ed007's Note - That infatiguable better not be a sweary word and I get up to a row from Ed001.}

23 Apr 2017 07:58:07
Geez Harry you need a reality check. Hendo was one of the reasons why we almost won the league in 13-14, as was immediately demonstrated when he was suspended late in the season - all our energy and our creativity went missing. His move deeper has been a major factor in our improved performances in the last 12 months, it's just very unfortunate he's got an ongoing injury issue.

I do think Keita would be a great signing because we do need improved depth if he's going to continue to struggle with his heel, but there's no reason to slam our midfield, which in my opinion is right up there with the best. We've rarely been bettered in a midfield battle against the top 6, but as Ed says we need to improve against bottom sides and that isn't down to Hendo IMO.

23 Apr 2017 08:02:12
Slanging off Lallana is okay, especially when done by Ed11. But when we do for Hendo we are boo boiz got and okay to be called moronic.

{Ed001's Note - not what I said at all and I was not just mindlessly slagging off Lallana, I was complaining about his weaknesses which are there for all to see. The complaints about Henderson are always moronic lies with no basis in reality, like your post.}

23 Apr 2017 13:21:35
Omg harry, you will persist with this hendo slagging. To say he cannot pass from midfield is so disingenuous and thank you MK for bringing some facts to the discussion. However this site is about opinions and i respect that you have your own and don't follow the crowd.

I agree with the sentiment of bringing in quality now but only demonstrably better players that will come into the first team. I don't see kieta as that but with hopefully extra games next season he would be a welcome addition especially if lucas leaves.

Personally i feel we need to bring in two to three max top quality winners who have strong temperaments. Players that will not go missing and be leaders on the pitch. Who those players are i don't know, that's klopps job to identify. I know i know nothing, i was against the mane signing and look how that turned out.

22 Apr 2017 11:32:43
Lorenzo Insigne has just signed a new contract with Napoli. Now we know why Harry changed his username well in advance before someone called him out on it. He is definitely in the know when it comes to Insigne.
Don't worry buddy. I am sure Klopp will sign one of your secret footballer crushes sooner rather than later.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

22 Apr 2017 12:20:16
Harry is just going through the motions. He probably has had a word with Klopp and made his anger and frustrations known about why LFC did not attempt to lure Insigne and now changed his name to something which cannot be explained yet still leaves him under the category of attention seeker ;-)

22 Apr 2017 14:11:56
Should start taking bets for his next user name! It will depend who's having a good game in Europe at the time I suppose mind. I'll tell you who it won't be though, it won't be a Liverpool player. Harry doesn't do Liverpool and positivity together!

22 Apr 2017 14:16:26
Ha Ha. I called Mr Klopp and he wasn't impressed with my running! Apparently he is looking at Ussain Bolt's brother!

22 Apr 2017 14:44:17
Welsh

Lol. I'll give you a tip. This lad is a young player and actually released from City and joined the youth at the club "X". Linked to Spurs in the past. He has shabby hair and is tall. One of the brightest deep lying midfielder. 😎 Coming soon ❤️.

22 Apr 2017 14:56:37
My money is on 'My name is Naby Keita and I am the best central midfielder alive'.
Go for it Harry.

22 Apr 2017 17:11:10
Indian, or better yet "My name is David Silva" or "Santi Carzola" as he always compares our mids to these two.

22 Apr 2017 20:45:34
Give it to us harry mate. Go on, change your name (again)

22 Apr 2017 11:21:23
Will be interesting to see what everyone's expectations were for Liverpool start of the season.

Mine was one of the cups and 4th spot. Obviously our cup run ended in disaster.

Having no Europe made things a little bit lighter for us but let's face it, we would not have had a squad to compete game in and out in Europe and locally.

For that reason I am extremely happy with how we have improved in the EPL this season. We only managed 60 points last season and 6 points improvement at this stage might not seem much but is the difference between making the top 4 and not.

We really need to get things right in the summer window and pressure on Klopp to deliver silverware will be make or break for him next season.

Two finals, our first European final since 2007 and came close to another final.

Klopp has been here under two years so progress has been there and next season I am expecting further improvement under Klopp.

Interesting stats compared to the manager he took over from.

Rodgers was here for just over 3 years.
Total of 166 matches all competitions, 1.77 point per game, 1.89 goals per game, 1.33 goals conceded per game
. Won 85, drew 39 and lost 42.

Klopp total of 94 matches all competitions, 1.79 point per game, 1.88 goals per game, 1.18 goals conceded per game, won 47, drew 27 and lost 20.

Make of that what you will but under two years with Klopp in charge I reckon there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

If Klopp had done worse in his first full season (which is this season) compared to Rodgers in his first season then I would have been extremely worried.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

22 Apr 2017 14:14:58
I thought we'd challenge for the title but I'm still happy. That poor run aside we'd have been up there. Klopp will learn and so will the players so next year wewill
Hopefully be up there challenging. Champions league football next season will ease some if we can just get over the line now so no doubt there will be some exciting European nights under the lights again!

22 Apr 2017 14:19:34
Another trophy less campaign and I am not actually very excited as some here are. All these comparisons are bull! Brendan had Suarez and even a blind man could guranteee a second place finish with him in the side. He failed miserably when we sold the star man and bought duds who couldn't hit a barn door.
Klopp is not a success either. He needs to win PL title.

22 Apr 2017 14:57:18
I genuinely thought this could have been the year. But a very bad January cost us mainly due to missing keys players but others just didn't step up in their place. We probably just have tried to sign someone but if the right player isn't there then I'd rather no one than just anyone. Hopefully over the next few games we can cement top 4 and all look forward to next season.

22 Apr 2017 16:04:56
I said 7th or lower which is still a big possibility.

22 Apr 2017 19:15:29
No, it's not Walter. Check those facts 🤝.

22 Apr 2017 20:32:01
Harry anybody except KK it seems.

22 Apr 2017 23:35:20
I think I was backing top 6 but possibly just outside so they should exceed my expectations.

22 Apr 2017 09:41:17
Palace going to be a tough test but believe Anfield will be up for the challenge tomorrow.

Burnley, City, Arsenal and Spurs all away in their next 5 EPL fixtures for UTD. Far too much on their plate including the EL fixtures in and between.

Win for us tomorrow and I believe we will secure a top 4 spot.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

22 Apr 2017 09:54:53
A win tomorrow does all but confirm CL for next season, six or seven points will be more than enough from our last 5 games.

22 Apr 2017 10:20:02
Have we already qualified for the europa league already.

22 Apr 2017 10:50:43
The top 4 and permutation talk is becoming tedious, end of the day its redundant as it stands we need to win every game if with two games to go 2/ 3 points is enough then fine that's the situation then, but at the moment we just need to win every game.

22 Apr 2017 11:58:11
Yes winning every game would definitely secure top 4 but looking at it in context, with UTD's remaining fixture list, we are in the driving seat.

It is possible for us to win every game but this is the EPL we are talking about. Who would have thought Spurs would have caught up with Chelsea who were in cruise control?

UTD have a very difficult game tomorrow and if we end up 9 points ahead of them by tomorrow it might just be good night for them. All ifs and buts but I am looking at it in context.

22 Apr 2017 12:12:16
UTD could win the EL easily and get into group stages of the CL next season.

22 Apr 2017 12:36:43
We are having a discussion regarding a top 4 finish Harry.

22 Apr 2017 14:22:22
Max

The OP was comparing the remaining fixtures of Liverpool and UTD. And how it will reflect the Top 4 places. UTD could actually give up the remaining PL games and concentrate on EL for a guaranteed Group entry into CL next season with a trophy in style!

22 Apr 2017 05:57:07
{Ed's Note - We have posted a new article entitled, Weekend Match Previews

Believable2 Unbelievable0

22 Apr 2017 08:48:53
With Matip, Klavan and Lucas doubts surely will be a chance for Gomez and Grujic to stretch their legs?

22 Apr 2017 08:58:19
Sounds like Matip n Lucss should be fit.

22 Apr 2017 14:23:23
Cheers ed, good read!

{Ed001's Note - thanks B-r.}

22 Apr 2017 02:20:24
Fabuck it.

Liverpool fans hate him, Chelsea have other ideas, Liverpool need experience in Europe, Liverpool will have to sign big in anticipation of Champions league football, Ed 1 dislikes him, I still rate him (as does carra, but who cares? ) .

Sign Terry.

Keep Lucas.

We need them otherwise it's an embarrassment.

Believable1 Unbelievable14

{Ed001's Note - an embarrassment is people wanting to sign a slow centre back whose legs have gone! People live so far in the past they fail to see how ridiculous their suggestions are. He is only good for Chelsea because of how he plays for them, put him in any other team and he will be half the player.}

22 Apr 2017 05:11:40
Agree - we play a very different game and our CBs are put under a lot more pressure and one-on-one situations, often against pace. Klavan has shown how exposed a CB without pace is in our system, why anyone would think a slow, aging CB who doesn't exactly have a pillar of the community character should play for us is beyond me.

Lucas I can get, he's shown that he can still bring experience and a cool head to the side, and he is Liverpool through and through, yet even for him we need to set up to account for his pace as he would be badly exposed if trying to play a Hendo type role. At least it seems Klopp seems to be catering for that based on the last few games IMO, Lucas has rarely been exposed one-on-one and has been extremely solid as a result.

22 Apr 2017 05:53:51
Sign Terry? Are you joking or being serious Davey becuase seriously he is very old, long past his best and could not hack playing in our team what=so-ever. On top of that he is a less than savoury character off the field. I mean he brings literally nothing good to the table - astonishingly awful suggestion.

22 Apr 2017 08:39:20
That's why we have Klavan.

22 Apr 2017 08:53:12
36 years old and would want a very healthy retirement package. This would be one of the worst, if not the worst transfer deal Liverpool ever make.

The guy is so far past his best and Mignolet will look even worse with Terry playing ahead of him at CB.

Luckily we have no interest in Terry :-)

22 Apr 2017 09:03:16
Pretty sure Maldini is without a club too. Sign him up. He can cover both LB and CB 👍🏻😂.

22 Apr 2017 09:07:49
im not sure i could support a team with Terry init! even Liverpool!

22 Apr 2017 09:30:30
Liverpool Fc should allow Lucas Leiva to be in control of his immediate future.
If he wants to stay, we should extend his contract for a reasonable length. If he wants to leave for more playing time or other non-football reasons the club should wish him well and allow him to leave with our blessing.

As for Terry, his experience and knowledge of the game domestically and in Europe is invaluable.
On the other hand, he is old and slow to play regularly in the premier league, he is a divisive character who can upset the dressing room and can undermine the manager. He would also command very high wages.
I do see Davey's point but we need to bear in mind that squad numbers are limited and the risks outweigh the potential benefits in my opinion.
If our scouts can not do better than John Terry then we need better scouts.

22 Apr 2017 09:55:27
I would rather stick with Klavan than have Terry sitting on our bench. The thought of some having Terry in our squad is completely and utterly bizarre.

How on earth will he improve our defensive performances on the pitch?

Laughable to say the least.

Even if we make a friendly call to Terry, he would show up next day in full liverpool kit and try to photoshop himself in all the photos when the trophies are being won and collected. :-p #stayawayfromterry.
