Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

If we could bring in Ince, Sturridge and turan I would be very happy with them additions to the squad! I know arda is doubtful but he's a liverpool fan and very good friends with nuri, surly if we made a move for him we would be in with a shout, as for Sturridge I personally think he would be a good addition, got an eye for goal something we have lacked and ince looks sharp in the championship and I think he can cut it in premier league!
(Merry Christmas and happy new year to all:)
Cheers

Turan is not going to happen. This rumour has been floating around since Rafa first joined, just like Navas, Banega ad infinitum.

Hi folks, by the end of the transfer window our club will be stronger with at least 3 new players. One being Sturridge, who I personally dislike (I don't even know why)but he will average about 15 goals every season. He is 23 has premiership experience and Is a goal scorer. Brendan is doing a good job, but his hands are tied by FSG policy on transfers and lack of sugar daddy funds. If we get Sturridge, Ince, Walcott/Gamerio it would give us a chance to get up the table and who knows, we could get 4th!! Then come summer we will get our long awaited Attacking Midfielder to replace Gerrard!

Keep the faith!

redRUM

We already Gerrard's replacement - he's called Shelvey. And anyway, in a 4-3-3 there is no attacking-mid in the sense Gerrard was under Rafa.

And were the only team that will be strengthening!!

Trust me if we sign 2 strikers who will get "15 goals a season" in the league then i will be over the moon.
derryred

We already Gerrard's replacement - he's called Shelvey.
========================

Sorry but I have seen nothing in Shelvey's game that even remotely resembles Gerrard at the same age. Shelvey has no pace or stamina and as for finishing, anyone who has actually seen him play will tell you that.

The next S. Gerrard, definitely not, possibly the next Igor Biscan/Paul Stewart.

Red Flag Flyer

Players like Gerrard come around once in a lifetime. We will never 'replace' him. But someone like Shelvey can play that central midfield attacking role. He's committed and scores goals and can pick a pass. He'll only get better and will do in my opinion to take the No. 8 shirt when SG finally hangs it up

Congratulations to Jose Enrique on his little boy.

King luis

I bet he can teach his dad a thing or two about dribbling.

21 Dec 2012 22:39:29
Sturridge and Ince will be the only signings in January. FSG looking to strengthen more in the summer with money from the sale of Carroll. Downing will be gone in January.

How much money will we get for Carroll?

HI Anyone know what the story is with Teixeira, Adorjan, Jordan Ibe, Nacho etc? Are they in the running to get a match anytime soon?

Doubt Nacho will make it, a bit too lazy. Adorjan has a lot of quality but he also has a lot of competition with Suso and Teixeira. Ibe is the most likely to get a chance but he's a bit young. Imo he's just another Sterling but he is more physical which means "he's more suited to the prem" in some people's minds.

How good is benat extebarria? He looks pure class, mould of xavi what a talent. Anything below his 16m buyout clause is a steal only get better, fit right in alongside lucas gerrard with allen roatating. And being gerrard replacement its about time we consider his replacement and spend money to get it. a website says we are interested have we any genuine interest to buy eds? Or would this be more likely a summer move?

21 Dec 2012 22:10:21
Gameiro has been lined up on loan, currently out of favour at PSG. Sturridge is almost done, just a few things to iron which should be no problem. Gameiro interest being used to pressure the agents to reduce their cut as we have been spending too much on agent fees in recent years, we definitely want both. Ince we have agreed terms with, it's just about agreeing a fee but as we all know after the Adam saga, Karl Oyston isn't the ideal person to negotiate with. We are confident of thrashing out a deal. A left back is possible, and what Rodgers would love in an perfect world but it depends on if we have the funds, are there any available options etc.

Macca made a good point about Sturridge. I recall that he had been touted as one of the best prospects of English football when he still at City. Let's give the lad our support if he does join. As Macca says we're not in a position to attract the best at the moment.

Yiu're right The real AG,

There is no point arguing with the likes of pacman, liverbird, ozone, waro etc they will always have an answer even when theyre stonewall wrong theyll argue till theyre blue in the face

Therefor i will only be replying to the rational and constructive posters from now on

I admit i used to wonder why Ed02 was so harsh on some of u lot but this week has shown me why, deffinately some of the most fickle and unreasonable fans

Such a shame they cant see the bigger picture and that BR is in the process of building foundations of a strong, exciting young team and come summer the owners will invest again and we'll be going from strength to strength

More importantly, I hope everyone has downloaded the Hillsborough tributr song so we can help it go no.1 i got my copy

P.S completely agree with you Macca, but trust me but ive tried for over a week to get some rationale drilled into some of these lot but i dont think its poss!

Will be interesting to see what excuses they'll come up with if BR takes us nearer the CL spots this season

Cheers

Shak Attack

I agree with you shak, its ok for their opinion but not yours, sounds like the missus that does. lol. even if he doesnt i will still back him till at least the end of next season as thats when i think we will relly start seeing what BR is trying to achieve with this team. in my humble opinion whenever a manger takes over they should get a decent amount of time to implement their ideas and tactics onto the team.

Fact is, most of the dross posted by the aforementioned doesn't deserve a reply, but the site is for all of us, not just the 'Brenda out' brigade. I'm sure much of my views will be labelled 'blind faith', but this is far from the truth. I find it embarrassing the opinion that Ed002 has of sections of our fans. 'knowledgeable and respectful' is something we should adhere to - its part of who we are.
In the meantime, don't get sucked in by the ozones of this world, but don't worry if I get reduced to their level - its kinda fun. ;)
Happy Christmas shak. And to ozone, and the rest of our family.

There are no 'if's' or 'but's' because people will always look for an excuse to hate poor Brendan

Well Shak Attack,

How can you count yourself as a fan respecting others' opinion when you yourself come out and name call them and even post appropriate comments...

Your posts are pointed to other fans, not to their opinion....So Stop posting non sense

Mr BigBadBen,

I hope you stand on your own comments...When you stand with a group then their views become yours as well.....

And please do some reading before posting anything...

Read my posts and I would like to know where I have asked for Brendan Rodgers' ouster....

Macca has got another right with Sterling signing a deal, Blackpool have told how they have rejected our bid so once a fee is sorted Ince could sign and as for Sturridge I for one do not like him as a player, but as for a improving our current squad he does and if he chips in with 10 goals like the start of last season for Chelsea that puts us closer to the top four instead of relying upon Suso, Sterling and Assaidi to chip in with goals, which at the moment they haven't. He is young and has a lot of potential and as shown at Bolton and when played through the centre at Chelsea he can score, we must support the manager and Sturridge and Ince if signed until they show a reason not to.

Sorry, but how did he get it right? Most would have told you he would have signed!

I said ages ago that it didn't make sense for him to sign before he was 18. It's hardly rocket surgery.

21 Dec 2012 21:27:43
Honda for Gerrards replacement anyone?

Wish i could press the agree button a thousand time's! i would sign him before any player we're interested now! He is truly world class!

21 Dec 2012 21:26:23
So looks like Sturridge is likely to come early on in the window then? Personally I don't think it'll be a bad signing unless he comes for 12m+, because in my opinion he is worth no more (12's pushing it). At one stage when playing for Bolton I really rated highly and even when first coming back to Chelsea, but now hes just not the same and I dont really think he'll be the best player to sign to score a ton of goals, but atleast it's another attacking option.
Just saw something on the LFC page mentioning Turan as a possibility, for me, that would be a great signing! Always rated him and was hoping we'd take him from Galatasary when he declared his admiration for us, but if theres any chance of him, then i'd be very pleased. Those two along with maybe another cheapish back up striker and the sales of downing and maybe henderson shouldnt be too expensive.

RDR

I don't care how much of somebody elses money he costs.

That's Euro's Ed002 not pounds.

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - No, it is pounds. The Borini fee was 13.3M euros. You should perhaps take a look at your own post of 17 Jul 2012 13:20:29.}

------------------------------------

That is £10.8m for Borini

BthekingB

{Ed002's Note - Why is this so difficult to grasp. The fee was paid in euros. If you wish to translate it in to £GB then it will vary depending on the exchange rate at the time. AT the time it was rather more than £10.8M.}

any body think if we bought arda turan he could possibly be gerrards replacment as he cant play ever game now make agger the captain buy these players turan sahin wilson ince and sturridge because he can play all 3 forward postions and is still young out would be downing enricue cole henderson and a few fringe players and that would be a great january for me dont think it would make a difference this season in terms of getting into the champions league but defintly top 6 bring in honda and butland in the summer in the summer and we would be in the champions league in a season and halfs time

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the potential arrivals of Tom Ince and Daniel Sturridge? I personally am not convinced by Sturridge but I do like Ince.

Kam

...and Butland and then add on to that Dowing, Carroll (who will be gone), Stirling, Henderson, Gerrard, Johnson it's and England team fest!

Have you seen how poor england are?

Sturridge and ince are actually very different players compared to the players listed above. Both have superior skill, speed and agility. That's the system we are trying adopt. Downing, Carroll, Adam, henderson etc where all bought to build a very traditional English way of playing. Sturridge and ince are similar players to sterling. Those are the types of players that score goals, not assist. That's what we need right now.

21 Dec 2012 18:48:51
It seems that Arsenal are debating money... Theo is talking about playing down the middle?

We all are aware that his father who is a big Liverpool supporter so if there was interest... there must have been some type of discussion?

My question is... Theo Walcott.... is he just finding it very hard to make that move because he feels alittle indebted to Arsenal... so is just listening to what they say until the end of the season.

Brendan Rodgers did say that all our targets would not be easily available in January.. and then Wenger comes out with Theo not leaving in January.

It just seems like Liverpool is the move that could more likely happen... but on Arsenals terms.

What do you guys think?

21 Dec 2012 13:32:07
I cant understand the negativity with regards Sturridge, if he does sign the question we have to ask ourselves is does he improve the squad and the answer is yes..

We have to realise that until we qualify for the champions league we will not be able to attract the players like Cavani etc...

Thoughts please

Cheers

21 Dec 2012 19:30:04
Yet again , a voice of reason.Sturridge would not be my first choice but he would add to the squad.I see him as a young man with a lot of room for improvement.
He has got an attitude but , he did the business for Bolton when they were in a real scrap .I believe if he is willing to learn he could be a real star in the future, but he can also hit the ground running as he knows the league .

Kobi

Pretty obvious that its a done deal, and how much people whine and moan it wont change anything as the club see him as what they are looking for. personally i would have rather seen them go for a out and out goalscorer, as its alot of money to spend on someone who rarely plays when fit.

km

That won't be for a while then.

Much love

Looking forward to him coming, was a bit disappointed we didn't get him in the last transfer window.
Redfox.

Not being negative, just thought our scouts could have been a bit more imaginative in their targets especially with english players being so expensive. Look at newcastle with cisse and ba or swansea with michu. Money for liverpool is at a premium yet we continue to buy expensive english players. if he signs he will have my total support, but he is a gamble and an expensive one at that.

Totally agree. And to be honest, whenever I have seen Sturridge play, he always looks like a goal threat. I would be pretty happy if he came to us, and I think he needs us as much as we need him, which will hopefully keep him keen. The only thing which concerns me a bit is he does seem a bit injury prone. I might get shot down, but I think it would be a good bit of business, and shows good support from the owners. I'd rather have Sturridge than Dempsey in our team.

Nick

I like the idea of him cutting in onto his left foot from the right side of our front three.

phillyred

I think most agree he has talent, but others understand that his attitude and ego may stop him fulfilling this, therefore proving another expensive English mistake.

Papa G

Everyone knows that, but i feel there are better average players out there for that kind of money

Pacman

21 Dec 2012 20:13:49
Yeah he might improve our squad but the question should be will he improve our league position, will he take us to next level, will he achieve us champions league, is he going to solve our goal problems, is he the best option there the anwer is simply NO. We need players who are going to make big, big difference and its really hurting to see clubs like Newcastle going for quality players like Remy or Bony thise are players who atleast will make differnce. In my opinion Remy is head and shoulders above sturridge from any angle. Thanks

Im with you on this. Made the same argument last week.

Piledriver

Cavani would earn more with liverpool than with Napoli

Absolutely a wide forward that can fill in for Suarez in the middle when needed gives the front 3 flexibility, he is young and pacey the pace of him and Sterling as attacking wide forwards will be an option we havent had for yrs. no need for such negativity.

Andy the Red

Personally think he is talented just terrible decision making, not idle but adds pace, goals, height, and a directness at goal which is needed. Also watching blackpool tonight and everything good seems to be coming from Ince

There are plenty of proven strikers in other leages, that will love to play for us, why we have to pay £12 mil for chealsea reject?

21 Dec 2012 20:38:30
llorente would be my choice !

dannybhoy

Macca, if I may...

Regarding whether Sturridge would improve the squad or not, yes, yes it he would. But is it squad or start 11 improvement we're looking for? We need a proven goal scorer, someone who doesn't hit the post 10 times a season and a player who doesn't lose his composure when one on one with the keeper.

I know the big names are out of reach, but there are still players who fit the bill and are cheap.

Macca,

Did Borini improve our squad? No. Would he? I don't know that. We don't know that.

The problem is we constantly are buying wrong players. Last year it was the question "Is Downing improving our squad?" One and a half years later the answer is no.

CL qualification is not an excuse. If our scouters do their job better then we can unearth bargains and gems. The major issue it that we constantly overpay for players who are not really improving us.

I see Sturrigde as a player who will waste a crucial position in which we need a far better player. Yes he will help but in the long term I believe he will be a waste of a crucial position in which we need a player who will constantly put the ball in.

Macca,
Personally i rate Sturridge, and i agree he will improve the starting line up and squad in general. My only worry is that we need a middle man, someone who rarely strays from the box and puts his toe on the end of everything. Players similar to Van Nistlerooy, Jelavic, Larsson, Di Natale all differing standards but similar in the respect that they have that lethal potency, does Sturridge have finishing ability such as this?
Our best finisher is Suarez but hes more like a forward than a striker, creating space for a Defoeish type.
I will gladly take Sturridge, but would say were still short a poacher, although hopefully Sturridge will prove he is that man.

Anfield Andy

Macca: If we would like to get top players it's just to open our wallet, like man city did or malaga or PSG? It's not impossible to buy top players if you can't give em Cl Football

21 Dec 2012 21:36:18
I can understand the negativity Macca, although it may be mis-placed.

£12M for another unproven British player is a substantial risk, and nay-sayers can easily point to his tenures at two top PL clubs (our aspiration) without significant impact.

For myself, I think the lad has lots of raw talent and I worry he hasn't turned it into consistant selection/performance. But with the past BR connection and bursts of inspiration (not to mention the obvious needs of the squad) I think it's a good signing.

What's your breakdown?

21 Dec 2012 21:36:33
Evening Macca. Too many fans seem to get hung up on 'marquee' signings. I believe he will add goals to our team, which must be a good thing. I just hope everyone gives him time to settle in. Every new signing shouldn't have to go through the abuse that Lucas received in his early days in order to prove himself. When Sturridge pulls on the red shirt, he should know that he has our support.

BigBadBen

21 Dec 2012 21:36:55
Thanks for keeping us updated Macca, you´re the ONE :)
Sturidge can play right side or centre forward, there is nobody better in current squad then him to cover right side and if needed swaping positioning with Suarez and let say Borini may by very fluent and full of technique.Hopefully he signs and prove that he is one of players that will take ball at bad times and try take responsibility even selfishly but at least looking for ball to do something with it...that is what we missing especialy infront. If Borini hits a good form on return these three could be very creative and efective.
Ritmicak

21 Dec 2012 21:37:11
Of course you are right Macca and the lad deserves a fair chance, he may even turn out to be a great signing. Our options are very limited at the moment and its a shame some can't see that or see that it's not BRs fault

Chris in Tamworth

21 Dec 2012 21:37:23
I'm with you on that Macca, another striker, one that's been around good players, has to improve our squad. If he does come, we will see if it's a mistake or not, but let's support him this time unlike some didn't when Downing came! I don't think that helped Stewart one bit and Sturridge is better.

Keith

21 Dec 2012 21:37:36
Macca i totally agree with you mate, as a poster said somewhere below, with all the passing around the box maybe a bit of greediness is what we need and he does finish most of his chances. him on the left suarez through the middle maybe gerrard, sterling or shelvey on right of a front 3. just out of curiosity what would your team with the current players including stuuridge be.
huddz red

21 Dec 2012 21:38:03
The issue for me is that there are a lot of ways to find talent. you can pay tons for established talent (your Cavani example), or you can go out and look around the world, for undiscovered talent or undervalued talent. Two different schools of thought, eg. Real Madrid pays a ton for established players, Borussia Dortmund looks for undiscovered talent.

My problem with the Sturridge option is that is he a combo of both. he is English and heavily scouted and followed. While not what you would call established talent, he is also not undiscovered. If Sturridge played outside the BPL he would more than likely not cost 12MM. The real issue is what else could you get for 12MM pounds? If you tell me I can get Wilfried Bony for 12MM, then I'll take him over Sturridge. To me he is more proven than Sturridge, despite the fact it was not in the BPL. All Sturridge has proven is that he isn't good enough to dislodge who is in front of him. There could be a lot of reasons for that, some of them in his favor such as they paid so much for Torres that Sturridge is never given a chance.

So my thoughts to your question are I am okay with Sturridge if Rodgers believes that he will shine for him and the team. But I would feel more comfortable if the team would look outside the country, because i think it has been proven that if you don't have tons to spend, you better get value when you buy, and value is most likely to be found in other countries where the talent is less thought of or not yet discovered.

Thanks for all your work Macca and eds. Let's hope whatever happens Rodgers can get the team back where we all want it.

Lee

21 Dec 2012 21:38:21
Exactly Macca, lot of people seem to think we are not getting Cavani, etc because we are not bidding for them, BR and FSG not interested in them, not making funds available.

I think most would have to agree with you Macca. Sturridge is clearly better than what we are dealing with right now ie downing, and to an extent assaidi hendo and shelvey. Thanks for the info.

Macca I think sturridge and ince would both be great signings mate and would fit our system more importantly.

21 Dec 2012 21:40:17
Macca,
we have bought Carroll, Allen, downing, Henderson, Adam, Borini to name a few in the last few windows. These players are not good enough for lfc. We have to aim for better quality players than sturridge. Ince would be a good signing though as he is not overly expensive. If we are looking for a striker then we should be targeting llorente, lewandowski, damioa, Higuain or a cheaper option like huntellar. With the exception of Higuain and possibly damioa none of these players would cost in excess of 20 million.

Thanks Johnny.

Thing is Macca will we get into the champs league with these signings?

If not, a bit of a catch 22

I'll back him like every other player who sticks on that shirt but will his ego be trouble for us?

Crowman.

21 Dec 2012 21:42:25
Common sense post from Macca and I agree - not the standard of player Utd, Chelsea, City are buying but to buy them the wages we'd have to pay out would be ridiculous - Sturridge provide an incremental step in the right direction!

To be fair, getting Andy Carroll (who I don't rate at all and would be happy to see leave permanently) back would 'improve the squad' so that's not a particularly high bar to set.

I like Sturridge and think he'll do okay for us, but others on here that think there are perhaps better values available for the money may have a fair point as well. Time will tell but whoever comes in will have my backing.

RDL

Whos cares if Sturridge is british, spanish, mexican or a frikin alien! Does he score?... yes!
Is he prem proven?.. yes!
Do we lack goals?.. yes!
Does he fit FSG policy?.. yes!
Is 12mil a fair price for a player who WILL score 15+ goals a season?... yes!
Will he move without Champs L?.. yes!
Does he have an attitude problem?.. YES!

But have some Faith in BR! Its always easy to criticise when YOUR not in the hot seat!

OredZ

I'll say it again. The idea is to have an interchangeable front 3. Sturridge is ideal for that system.

Len

22 Dec 2012 10:12:01
@Lee I absolutely agree with that theory, I have been dwelling on it for about 2 weeks. It is not hard to spot very promising talent and develop it over 2-3 years. Arsenal have done it for years, ajax are masters of it and barcelona and dortmund have recently learned how astonishingly and how much success it can bring. Unfortunately, most LFC fans are impatient persons who only want short term fixes and don't appreciate the power of patience.

The worry about Sturridge is why are the chavs willing to let him go ? Same with Borini, they knew he wasn't good enough. With Sturridge, yes he's got ability, but has he got the commitment, does he put the effort in training ? I reckon that's why they are prepared to let him go and brought in Moses ahead of him in the summer.
G

{Ed002's Note - You could apply that worry to any transfer, but just to be clear, Chelsea will not stand in the way of a player who wants to move if an acceptable offer is made. Moses did not arrive to replace Sturridge.}

Any chance Demba Ba gonna be our 3rd and last signing in january? (I take Ince and Sturridge as done deals)

Stevie g should retire doesn't fit with fsg policy I.e old and high wage and is not quality

{Ed006's Note - But is a class leader and can still do a job, remember you never win anything with Kids.}

Ed006 you're full of it!! If you look at the U16 league it's consitantly being dominated by young sides!

I would like to think that this post re stevie g is pitched sarcastically however i have read a number of posts over the past months saying something similar and feel the following needs to be said.
1. Stevie is 31 not an elderly 37/38 as per Giggs and Scholes
2. He has been without doubt the most consistent and influencial LFC player that I have seen in 41 years of supporting the reds
3. His leadership quality is 2nd to none
4. We have witnessed him single handedly carry the club on many important occasions
5. Although we have seen a drop in performances to some extent this year the nature of his game will adapt to reduction in pace and the ageing process
6. He should be given the time to adapt to new our style of play and perhaps used more wisely

Stevie g deserves respect from lfc fans and I think he will play albeit in a different way than what we have become accustomed to for another 3-4 years or so.
Rant over

colred

I agree to an extent, SG needs to be benched, impact sub. He cannot play in BR style. We need another Midfielder to play in his place, Jonjo still has to learn. Perhaps this will be looked at in the summer?

Lee73

If the kids are good enough you will.

Champions League is going to be a long way off. With much else. We need serious owners and a serious manager.
If you lot disagree, wait till the end of the season.

Chorro

He's a great player. Truly great. He is a terrible captain. We seriously lack leadership.

Len

Len, I think you've been in a time-warp over the last 10 years. He leads by example. Have you not heard what players like Alonso have said - they view Gerrard as the ultimate pro and admired the way he helped younger players coming through. He's not only one of the greats but has also been a great captain.

Not to be the bearer of bad ideas, but if mismanaged sterling might turn out like Walcott. Underachieving his full potential. The progress of sterling will be a reflection of brendans coaching ability

The progress of Sterling will be a reflection of Sterling.

That's the christmas spirit look on the positives of the new deal being signed

Normally when our academy produces world class talent they always perform for liverpool but fail elsewhere. Michael Owen, robbie fowler, if carra and gerrard left they most probably wouldn't have been as good as they where at liverpool. So my advice to sterling is stay at liverpool unless you want to sit on the bench.

Sterling is going to end up like messi if worst case scenario he ends up as Walcott. Walcott is a very good player.

Hey Eds

In any of your humble opinions, how do you think Allen has actually played this season? And do you rate him as a player?

Merry Christmas to everyone on the site

LFC93 {Ed001's Note - he started off well, his form dipped for a bit, but now Lucas is back it has begun to pick up. Though I do think he needs a rest, he does look a little jaded.}

His acceleration is woeful

21 Dec 2012 13:01:59
Ed, in your opinion, once Jamie Carragher retires, who is the most likey target to replace him? Cheers {Ed001's Note - Coates.}

Sama and wisdom will also be top players.

21 Dec 2012 17:15:27
Sahin is playing vs fulham and luckily Allen is not.we might have a chance now that Allen is not playing

The good news about this is that sahin is finally getting a game and Allen gets a rest. Bad news is gerrard continues to play. Love the guy, but shelvey and especially Henderson deserves a shot.

21 Dec 2012 16:49:29
Well done Raheem pleased for you and Liverpool FC.

It will not belong before we are fighting for premier league titles and more champions league success.

Happy Christmas to all on this great site.

regards Steve068

What substances are you on? It'll be a long time before we challenge for the Premier League or Champions League again...

21 Dec 2012 17:08:17
Get big Andy back! Aston villa we has 40+ crosses. 4231 formation. Glen skrts agger Enrique, Lucas Henderson , susu Suarez sterling, Carroll. We accommodate to many midfielders. Rotate Lucas Henderson Allen Gerrard and shelvey Carroll and suare z! No money spend . Sturrige rotate wings with borini. Get cover at LB

Someone's found nans Xmas sherry then. Lol

MIKEY

Downing who put most of those crosses in will hopefully not be at LFC come end of Jan...

We do not need Carroll!

Where did that get us last season? To eighth... Yes two cup finals but honestly fans would rather be playing in the champions league against Real, Barca, and Bayern. He's not coming back just get used to it

Unfortunately, I expect he will in fact be coming back either this summer or sooner. I don't see West Ham paying 17M for an unfit tall pony-tailed kid with 0 motivation.

He's going to be a bit like Cole (no offense to Joe as at least he's a proper pro) and not someone we'll be able to move on easily.

21 Dec 2012 16:57:37
hi eds do you why liverpool are not interested in the 16 year old alen halivic? he is the best prospect in europe and prospects is something we are always going for. {Ed002's Note - That is a "Dear Brendan" question.}

21 Dec 2012 16:57:33
Looks like Loic remy is going to newcastle..that front 3 of ben arfa,cisse/ba and remy would be lethal..Wish we could sign quality players for cheap instead of overpaying for someone again..

I think he might be a replacement for Ba.

MIKEY

Remy will probably be a replacement for Ba, and he is not that good, has been in poor form of late and apart from 1 good season with Marseille, has done nothing.

21 Dec 2012 15:55:43
Pointless question but I'm curious- now that Sterling is under a 5 year contract, how much of a transfer fee will he command if someone comes calling in the summer?

Mrpjd

25m +, he's young English and extremely talented.

BthekingB

21 Dec 2012 17:51:00
Baseline figure for age, potential and position is probably in the £10 - £12 million range - add £6M for being english and another £6M for cracking the National Senior side. Liverpool don't want to release so add another £8M - I reckon a bid of around £30 -£32M would be "an offer that couldn't be refused". Between £20M and £30M and we'd probably have a board agenda item. A bid under £20M is not likely to either be accepted or negotiated. We know we have a gem - whether we can polish it up to "World Class" status is yet to be seen.

I'd be intereseted to know what the Utds, Chelseas and Arsenals of the world were thinking of as a price to dislodge him in January, or what the PL tribunal fee would have been if his contract had been run down....

More then before

21 Dec 2012 18:41:46
Cazorla, Mata cost less than 25.

Just Like RVP he will run down his contract, by the time he is 23 and if he proves he is any good, he will be ready to move a big club like United.

If someone comes calling, we will tell'em where to go.

I believe suso is starting on the weekend

LFC93

21 Dec 2012 17:55:34
Hope it comes good for Suso, I've always rated his potential above Raheems. But so far he seems to choke for the first team, and hr looks tentative in any sort of 50-50/physical element of the game, that's never going to get fans behind him. I could imagine him running riot in La Liga in the Barca team - hope we can bring out the best in him.

21 Dec 2012 15:59:50
Would like to pass on seasons greetings to all the LFC Fans that come on here and a special mention to Ed052, Ed02 and Ed01 who monitor and oversee our page. Thanks for your guys input, answers and replies to all the banter and rants. I hope you all have a safe holiday and a great 2013.

Chi-Paul {Ed002's Note - Have a nifty holiday.}

I for one would like to see sturridge come to liverpool

However 2 things that would worry me would be the price we are been charged and the wages he would be looking for.

We need to learn lessons from the english players bought in the past.

We are a mid league table team, still been charged for players as though we were in the champions league

Ed002, nifty should be dead and buried. Never repeat that phrase. Thanks in advance.

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - Fine words butter no parsnips.}

eds i read on espn.com that the sturridge deal is close too being finalised and he will sign in the early days off januray with ince can u confirm this, thanks for all the hard work :) {Ed019's Note - Yes they are looking likely to sign early on if things go to plan}

21 Dec 2012 14:53:17
Hi eds and LFC fans. Why dont Liverpool go for Wesley Sneijder that is told he can leave Inter in january because of they dont want to give him higher salary, we can provide him with the money and he will do great as gerrard replacment / Robin Sweden {Ed002's Note - His cost might be rather high.}

Too expensive and too old he'll probably go to city or united

21 Dec 2012 14:35:48
Hi eds great news.to see Stirling sign new long term contract that's agger skrtle suso jonjo and now Stirling if u don't be live in the philosophy of the todge and the direction of the club u don't sign! So let's be patient and.support the man well done Stirling and LFC great news

Now let's get Martin Kelly to sign a new contract.

Fantastic news!! Now all that's needed is for Martin Tyler to record some voice-overs so that we can actually hear Sterling's name when playing FIFA!

21 Dec 2012 14:31:35
We apparently tried to sign Dusac Tadic on the last day of the transfer window which would have been a good signing imo. Ex Groningen teammate David Teixeira Torres had also been an apparent target last January.

Any chance of us going for these players again in the near future? {Ed002's Note - Doubtful.}

21 Dec 2012 14:27:07
Just did predictor on bbc football unbiased honestly Liverpool ended up 4th with 71 points

If you were a united supporter I would believe it was unbias.

MIKEY

I did it and I had City winning by 3 points, Chelsea third us forth Everton 5th and Arsenal 6th. If only it was that easy

Have you seen the table that shows where we would be if we had Man Utds shots to goal conversion rate? Top !! Think only 3 teams have had more shots than us in a game and West Brom was one when we were down to 10 for more than half the game. Against Norwich they had as many shots as us and the game when replayed using the Utd formula ends 2-2!

Everyone would be top if they had Man Utd's shot to goal conversion rate...Think about it

Are you serious? We are not finishing 4th. Any logical football fan knows this is common knowledge. Until liverpool show phases of conisistency we will just be picking up points after dropping them the week before. It's been this way for several seasons now. It's mostly to do with the squad being so unbalanced and all the changes occurring in such little time. We've always seemed to have a good defence and a reasonably good midfield but never a full force up front. There's always a missing piece in this position whatever formation we tend to play. My hounest prediction for this season is a 9th place finish with 51pts (estimate) at a minimum. Maximum I see us finishing 7th position (which is an achievement with a squad like ours). Still January is going to be exciting and I'm sure there going to be a lot of twists in the premier league. Not only do I love lfc but I love the EPL as well so even if liverpool aren't yet where there supposed to be, the epl never fails to entertain me. Long live football

21 Dec 2012 14:26:03
I'm a big Joe Allen fan, and if I were manager my three centre mids based on form this season would be Joe, Nuri and Lucas, however, it is obvious that he needs a rest, I've been to every home game this season and he seems to progressively have had less impact with each game, he was awesome against city, just needs a break so he can regain his form. We have a real good player for the future here...

Apologies eds, haven't followed Ince at Blackpool. Would you say he is looking promising? I always felt he had skill when he was with the youth squad, but certainly not the finished product. Has he developed that much in 1.5 years?

21 Dec 2012 13:16:55
Just for playful discussion: does anyone think we will win on saturday? Fulham always give us a tough game. I personally think we'll tie 1 - 1. In reality, we all need a 4 - 0 thumping to get optimistic again. Transfer window just doesn't seem the holy grail that many are hoping for. And before everyone starts ripping me apart as a non-fan, I am only implying that the additions in January aren't going to give us automatic goals and automatic wins. Still quite alot of work to do.

Coop

21 Dec 2012 13:38:21
Co op. I am hopefully of a decent win, 4-0 4-1. Norwich was a while back now so were due to score a few. Fingers crossed.

Waro

I think it'll be a win, although our back line needs to be incredibly wary of Berbatov - we all know he has a pretty solid track record against Liverpool. I can see a win though, which would be a good boost.

I agree as far as the Jan transfer window - I can't see it being a window for enormous change, more just a push in the right direction, inflated prices will make it hard especially considering the current financial restraints. The 2013 summer window will be crucial, and then we'll see just how Rodgers is shaping the team.

Fingers crossed for a couple of forwards though, it'll help ease the pressure on Suarez and Sterling (and give him some competition which is always healthy) and will also mean we can get a few more netted.

JFT 96

JP

I se a 1-0 or a 2-1 win for us. Fulham are a decent side and it will be a difficult match for us but I am confident of a win.
Huddz red

The reason are players are so tired is every team we seem to play just sit back let us do all the running about getting nowhere missing our chances we dont seem to do any easy games anymore every match is close and played like a cup match that imo is not something we can keep up all the time.Tommy Irish Red

That on your letter to Santa.

21 Dec 2012 18:04:55
Fulham are definitley a side that could concede 4/5 in a game at anfield.

They are also a side that could easily score twice at ours.

That's a lot of variables, especially when Mr Clatenberg could be a large influence.

I think we win comfortably with 2 goals in the first half, the earlier the better. If we get to half time one up it will be one of those nervy quiet evenings at the ground.

Strange to say but I think if they get one early it may be the best thing for us - with the pressure around BR I think the team will really react, especially Luis.

There's defintiley going to be a lot of psychology around the game, we have the better team by far but we need to hammer the advantages home.

21 Dec 2012 12:59:00
what is going on with br. why o why would you come out say things like he has about sterling. let the kid sign the contract. he has done nothing wrong and the manger is on his back. what is br problem with him. theres more players in the squad that need a kick up the backside than sterling. maybe he should start showing what he can do before he start on anyone. things are not going that well for him at the moment. you would of thought he would want players on side not aganist him.
sjc

What was so bad with what he said, he is an 18 year old who is getting a nice little pay bump and he is saying that he deserves the new contract but not to rest and work harder for an even better one. he is just saying he needs to work hard and keep learning.

Micah Richards broke through a few years back was winning plaudits & arsenal Chelsea & utd were being told he would cost 30/35 million, had a renewed contract then seemed to fade & get distracted & apparently was being offered around for 7 million, seems to have regained a bit of form & consistency in the last couple of seasons, but shows how a young player needs the right guidance to keep him grounded & willing to learn, must be difficult, give most 17 year olds £50.000 a week & think they would have difficulty staying grounded, glad he has signed & hope he fulfils his potential with us.....jft96 y.n.w.a

Would you sign Sahin permanently

Bel - Yes
Un - No

BigD

To soon to say, right now you'll get a lot disagreeing mate.

Papa G

I don't think we've seen enough of him, nor gotten the best out of him yet. I watched him at Dortmund and he was fantastic. His tenure with Madrid has affected his confidence, but not his ability. Bigger question for me, is he in BR's plans? If not, then I would not sign him. He doesn't seem the type to make the most of a squad position.

Hard to have a clean cut 'yes' or 'no' at the moment I'd say. It's clear he isn't happy being played the way he has been played so far, and has needed time adjusting to the PL. Maybe the second half of the season will show more what of he's capable of. If he can replicate the form he showed at Dortmund then I'd have him in a heartbeat, it's obvious the guy is hugely talented, otherwise the giants that are Real Madrid wouldn't have signed him.

Also, as a previous poster pointed out, 3 goals and 3 assists isn't a bad return, especially when compared to what our other midfielders have chipped in with so far this season.

JFT 96

JP

Ask me again at the end of the season, it's far too early to tell.
he seems to be chomping at the bit right now and looks like he will get a few chances soon. so we might see the quality he obviously has.

MIKEY

I would sign him, pair him with a fully fit Lucas in midfield with either Allen, shelvey or Hendo just above them.

I have just seen Sturridge and Tom Ince in the McDonalds in Liverpool City Centre.
So I went over and asked them,
"Alright lads why are you are here.?"

Apparently it is because Sturridge wanted a Big mac and Tom Ince loves the strawberry milkshakes.

Remember where you heard it first.

How do you like those apples

I've heard conflicting reports i'm afraid, there's been strong indications from many papers its the vanilla milkshakes Ince favours..

Aye i had seen sturridge as well, he was talking to me briefly actually. I asked him about the prospect of playing for Liverpool and he replied,
" Get out of my house or I'll phone the police."
Nice Guy.

21 Dec 2012 12:33:04
Just a few thoughts on the Tom Ince deal,

Obviously if it does go through the media will have a frenzy on us selling and buying back, I understand that the club wanted to keep him, made several offers which he turned down, Ince wanted first team action so he then moved to get this (proven to be correct decision on his part) and a compo agreement was made, between the clubs without the need of a tribunal (Correct me if i am wrong here) which as i look at it was LFC helping Ince out to get what he wanted even tho they wanted to keep him, they could have demanded more compo from a tribunal, but as a gesture to player and Blackpool agreed to let him go cheaper than they could have got from a tribunal, but did include a sell on fee.

This leads me onto my anger..... Blackpool are digging their heals in over a fee, totally Ignoring the fact LFC did them a huge favour by not being aggressive and demanding stupid money, It just annoys me when small clubs like this forget the favours they get from the likes of LFC and just get far too greedy ....Rant over !! {Ed002's Note - Blackpool have done absolutely nothing wrong at all. They can put any fee they wish on their players and if someone wishes to pay it then it may be possible to agree a transfer. The world does not revolve around Liverpool FC.}

I hope Blackpool increase there fee so liverpool move on. There are better options out there available in january.

I would not sell blackpool a virus whoo hoo as a bitter old man once said.Tommy Irish Red

21 Dec 2012 18:17:54
Blackpool hold a special place in my hatred for the January they wouldn't pick up the phone to negotiate a deal for Charlie Adam, it was really poor form.

But in real terms, they're local, since that debacle they've been open back and forth on transfers and they're willing to give youth a run. They're a perfect feeder club and good ties will benefit us both. Yes we can all scream and shout about them making 3/4M on Tom Ince when we could have loaned, but they're also a good customer for our academy players that don't cut the mustard, if we just loaned everyone we'd never get fees for players we've nurtured for years.

I can't begrudge them making money on Tom Ince - solid business from both clubs so far.

21 Dec 2012 12:16:51
Sahin is confident to score goals for Liverpool and is moving permanently after this season {Ed002's Note - There is no agreement for such a move.}

21 Dec 2012 12:11:03
hi, eds first timer, but what is it with players agents and fees, i have been told it is all part of the players wage demands and the agent get a percentage of that, could you give me an idea how it roughly works. thanks doing a cracking job, and merry Christmas to you all. {Ed002's Note - What is paid would typically include:

(a) Transfer fee - the big number.
(b) Tax due on the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(c) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents.
(d) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(e) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches.
(f) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(g) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered)
(h) Variables and tax on variables which may or may not be reclaimable) – these would typically include legal fees, moving/relocation costs, paying up insurance costs on the player, association fees etc..

I may well have forgotten something. The big numbers are the transfer fee, agent fees (assume about 8% plus VAT nowadays) and possibly intermediary fees (what do you mean you have a super agent?}

I was just about to ask the same question ed002 after reading about the potential sturridge transfer. Thanks for the detailed answer you gave him.
I have a question for you now, how do you become an agent? Haha
Seriously though I don't see any real reason why a player would need one, if your signing a new contract just get in a solicitor to go through it. The rest of the time between contracts just answer your own phone and make your own decisions.
These leeches are sucking too much money out of clubs and the players themselves.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - There are plenty of good agents around. They do there job and get commercial deals for players, negotiate reasonably, sort out logistics. At the other extreme I have known an agent to have to go show a player how to run a washer/dryer. But as you say, there are a number who can be manipulative and a number of clubs who will not tolerate that sort of approach.}

Would you have an agent if you where a footballer Ed002?
I personally wouldn't, I see your point that they can sort out deals etc but I would rather be independent and learn how to operate a washing machine and keep myself grounded and not do any commercial deals anyway.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - I would have to Mikey as sending the laundry out got real expensive for me.}

Must be all that specialist leather gear ed002.
It can't be cheap getting the stains off all that. Haha

MIKEY

Was the player who needed to be shown how to use the washer/dryer a certain Mr Balotelli

This is what I have heard...

Sturidge - done deal due to sign early jan
Ince - BR wants him but will not be held to ransom by Blackpool
Jeffren (loan) IF ince doesnt come
Biliga is of interest but only as BR has some concerns over Lucas long term fitness
Walcott is still high interest but doubts are growng
Bastos - bid will be made as BR sees as versatile & better suited than Downing

OUT - Downing, Cole & Pacheco

I would go for germio over sturridge..
versatile..can play up alone and also on the front 3...

Its Gameiro, hes not a germ nor the club gremio

Bastos. Wow.

Hi eds is tom ince and daniel sturridge done deals? {Ed002's Note - No.}

21 Dec 2012 12:01:18
I'm glad to see that we are (hopefully) looking to crack on in the January window and get some business done early. With luck there will be some more ins and outs through the window other than the usual suspects that have been named.

I always wonder why so many transfers seem to happen on deadline day....surely doing such late deals suits nobody. If you are the club selling then yes, you can push the price up significantly but you have little or no time to buy a replacement. If you are buying you will pay well over the normal asking price (Carroll).

Ed's - just wondered, typically leading into the last days of the window do clubs have some idea that other teams are interested in their player(s), either by registered interest or by agent talk and therefore be prepared should a bid be made, Having prior knowledge would give the team time to set what the deadline day price for their player will be plus also have a player in mind to try to sign should the offer be excepted? Or can an offer literally come 'out of the blue' on the last day? {Ed002's Note - It is more common to know who is interested than not.}

Sahin slashed br because he is not starting him regularly instead he starts Allen. In all honesty he has 3 goals and 3 assists compared to allens 0 gOals and 0 assists.at the end of the day a team such as Liverpool who lack goals require players such as sahin instead Of Allen who provide assists and goals for the team

While i believe sahin deserves to play in the first team, it does not mean allen is a bad player. He is simply tired out and needs a rest.
Indian Buzzer

Tired out??
dude..if he would have been in swansea or any other club..he would have played the same no of games...
his performance is awful...and thats not coz..he is tired..

The guy has also got married recently (I think), had his first child come into the world, played out of position for pretty much every game whilst trying to fit in with a new team and that's not even accounting for the fact he played the Olympics and so had no summer break...

I must admit it's quite funny all the ITK's and Journo's saying Sturridge and Ince to Liverpool are done deals when we haven't even had a bid accepted for Ince and Sturridge move is hitched due to the players agents

matty w

I find it funny that people such as you wait in the wings for other people to almost be wrong before you pounce for some bizarre pleasure. Then, when you're wrong you disappear or reappear with a new name!

Ironic you never left a name... I'm talking about the people saying the deals done now, yes they may sign for us but as it's stands a deal is not done matty w

Ed do u think reina is likely to be sold in the summer? He is a big earner and would command a decent fee to carry on the building process and reduce the wage bill. I think it would be a big loss, he is a huge influence in the dressing room, but think his time maybe coming to an end. I would prefer fraser forster over butland. Also think wengers comments this morning about theo are a little desperate, maybe a deal could be struck with reina going to arsenal in the summer and theo coming in jan.

Matt28 {Ed001's Note - Reina is a possibility, he believes he should be playing Champions League footie. Personally, I think he need to play a bit better and then we might have had Champions League footie anyway!}

I agree with you ED01. He is living on his past image

21 Dec 2012 05:17:47
Ed's---- Would it be correct to say we're looking at Sturridge, Ince and Butland coming in? I love Pepe but he's clearly lost confidence and seems very on edge all the time. Also, does anyone else feel that Coates should get a few starts? Skrtel is solid but his mental mistakes make me wanna pull my hair out. {Ed001's Note - no, it would be correct to say we are interested in Sturridge and Ince, with speculation of Butland interest as well.}

Skrtel's mistakes make him tear his hair out as well, that's why he's bald.

Did we not think to put a buy back clause in Ince's contract and does anyone else share my view that it makes perfect sence to do that with our young players we let go.
Tizer red

We didn't sell Ince, he hadn't signed a contract - he left, and because of his age we received compensation for his development.

John B

Errrrrm yeah we did we get 35% of any sell on same fee, thing isn't it!

Definitely agree assuming all parties are agreeable

We used to be very, very proficient and shrewd regarding our dealing with transfers, but the over past decade we seem to have become very inadequate.

I believe he left at the end of his youth team contract thus unabling us to insert a buy clause as technically we didn't 'sell' him.

eds and fans of liverpool not the moners and cryers IF walcott came to liverpool do u think he could play the striker roll i think with the right training and with his pace he could be as good as player as micheal owen well not at finishing but his movement and pace the finishing would come with enough chanches he gets the more shots he and they starting going in wen you watch him play his goals are good goals just my thoughts some feedback would be nice but the way things are going these days ill prob be ripped apart .

Don't think Walcott is physically strong enough to hold the line, the big defenders would 'steal his pocket money'.

I read this site every day, normally at least twice. I love the work the eds do, and appreciate everyones opinions, even our negative friends..ozone etc.
I personally feel that we need another CB, as our best formation is 3-5-2 (3-1-4-2), Skrts and Agger are immense, but I think Coates is still short of being good enough for regular games. We are getting caught on the counter attack, so with 3 CB's this risk of this would be reduced, still allowing Johnno and Jose to do what they are probably the best in the league at doing (IMO). Let Lucas hold in front of them, then we have an abundance of talent to play in those 4 forward positions (Gerrard, Suarez, Sahin, Allen, shelvey, sterling, suso, assaidi). We get rid of cole and downing, and bring in another holding midfielder(to cover lucas). Add one or 2 forward players ala Walcott, and we are as good as anyone in this league.

For all Liverpool fans coming on the united page, trying to wind us up by saying that we dont stand a chance against Real Madrid, I say :

1- we are the only representatives of English football that stand half a chance of winning the champions league ( even if we are not favourites ).

2- Until Liverpool fans are able to watch their teams playinf on tuesday or wednesday night, try to keep bantering with your actual rivals Swansea, Norwich and Stoke.

As for me I am proud to sing along the words
" Die Meister
Die Besten
Les grandes équipes
The champions! "
while waiting for my team to go toe to toe with European heavyweights such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munchen, and knowing we stand a pretty good chance of beating them and keep proving we are champions.

Cheers,

Mick

Mick,

The decent Liverpool fans and posters on here don't waste their time trolling the United page. In the same way your message on here probably won't be read by the same trolls who went on there as they're too busy being persons on other clubs pages. I assure you the majority of us on here aren't that childish.

Enjoy the Champions League, I should probably want English teams to win being English and all, but in actual fact I want Real Madrid to make you look like a bunch of crying little girls, with Ronaldo getting a hat trick.

"Toe to toe" is a bit of an exaggeration mate. Last year you went out in the widely credited "easiest group" and this year (in a group of similar quality) you had to scrap wins a few times to get through.

Your last final was god awful too. More "Toe to Forehead" than "Toe to Toe".

BTW how was the Mickey Mouse European Cup last year? A right breeze yeah!

P.S. I agree, knickers too thoroughly twisted.

I've had a good search through the posts, but can't seem to find anyone twitching a bit at resigning Ince for 16X the price after letting him go for a token fee just 18mths ago...

Surely, at best, that makes us look effin' stupid?

Particularly since there was rumoured to be a certain amount of attitudinal problem at the time of departure...

I could understand if he were the next Messi, but...

Dr S. Atire.

Although it is warranted to be cautious and a little hesitant in regards to this Tom Ince thing, I think a lot of people are looking at this purely from a 'what will other people think of us' viewpoint.

On the flip side, we will all be praising Rodgers if Ince comes into the team, starts banging in goals and getting a good few assists for us. Then it will be, 'we got a bargain there for 'x' million.'

Also, if you look through the responses re: Ince, you'll see it seems he left due to wanting first team football, something he wasn't going to get at Liverpool. I think that's fair for any young player who loves the game - no point him sitting on the bench.

I reckon, if we manage to meet Blackpool's valuation of Ince, we'll get a youngster who has grown exponentially into a fine winger since leaving Liverpool, who now has much more experience and a more level head. IF this is the case, then it's a win for us, and a win for Ince as he'll have playing time in the Prem.

Also, he's made an absolute mockery of Championship defences, it'll be good to see if he can bring that to the PL (whole different ball game, but who knows?)

Thanks for your measured analysis, JP - just on the face of it it looks a little odd. If he comes, I'll be egging him on, naturally...!

Wtf is up with all theese brittish players? look at city chelsea, united and arsenal. You need players abroad to be a top team. Brittish players are so overrated. sturridge not top player, walcott is but not the rubbishty signings we've done earlier like downing, carroll, henderson etc. Just get it right from start instead

YNWA Chris {Ed001's Note - so you say look at those clubs, then moan about us getting players from those clubs. Bizarre nonsense.}

Ohhh what a terrible post..

To be fair to those signings, most if not all of them had had a good season before they came to us, it just didn't work out the way we wanted! I was looking forward to Lucas breaking up attacks, passing to Gerrard or Adam who would send his pass to Downing, who'd place it on Andy's head to slot home. Suarez would have done all the rest!
It didn't work for whatever reason and we now need to sort it out, which I'm sure we eventually will.

Come on Reds, so much negative comments.....

If any one really believed at the end of Kenny's time that we had a top four squad, get a grip, if any believed that any manager could come in and make us title challengers in year one, wake up!

THIS IS REALITY - THE CLUB HAS BEEN MISMANAGED FOR A LONG TIME, AND SUFFERED DIRE FINANCIAL TROUBLES. FSG ARE SORTING IT OUT - IT DOES TAKE TIME. WHEN MONEY WAS RELEASED THE MANAGEMENT AT THE TIME OVERSEPNT ON THE WRONG PLAYERS, FSG SORTED THIS OUT AND CLEARED OUT THE PROBLEMS, BUT THEY NEED TIME.

Brendan Rodgers is a yound manager, he is rebuilding a hige institution, yes; some of his methods may seem strange, yes; some of his decisions may show inexperience, but let's get behind him, he is our Manager. I for one don't want to swap and change like Chelsea.

This season was always going to be mediocre, but some of the play on the pitch and the way the young lads have come through is very encouraging indeed.

If some of the transfer rumours are true, how many would really complain if we did get rid of Cole and Downing and BR actually did sign Butland, Walcott, Sturridge and Ince.

If you're a reds supporter -

LET'S BE AT ONE, BE A TRUE RED AND GET BEHIND THE TEAM!

Here here , good post please eds only posts like this one over xmas !........andy.

Which are you guys looking forward to most - Christmas or the January transfer window opening? I wish that someone had marketed a transfer advent calendar, counting down the days till we can get that much needed boost to the team and push for the highest we can get in the league. Hey Waro how are you mate? I wasn't cherry picking what I didn't like about your posts - I didn't like any of them so I was being general, not specific.

I do, however, appreciate the response from you regarding a future solution for the clubs. Pacman, LiverBird and Ozone simply got defensive, started to argue and forgot about answering the question directed at them but at least you managed to understand the initial paragraph.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know the consequences and ramifications of your idea to float LFC and sell 5K of shares to fans, or if its feasible - maybe the Eds and more financial-savvy posters could explain the pros and cons and whether it could actually work as a long term business model for Liverpool FC and, if so, why haven't other PL clubs implemented this idea.

You might find you get a better response to your ideas if you stop trying to portray yourself as the best fan Lfc has. You're fortunate to be able to go to games but it doesn't give you any more right to an opinion than anyone else. I don't go to the matches because its a 54 hour round trip and it would cost over 2 grand a game but I get up at 3 in the morning twice a week and pay for LFC membership as well as supporting the club for over 35 years. We're all fans on here. Some of us support the club, manager and players too (until they give us good reason to withdraw that support). Have FSG and BR honestly done enough wrong over a long enough period to merit the constant criticism that you aim at them? Do you really think we should be slamming the owners and manager after such short time periods or would you agree it comes across as impatient, petulant and infantile?

cozinoz

There are some positives to take from the manager (Liverbirds summary). FSG no, just a bunch of venture capitalists typical of an American business model of squeezing overheads and expanding income steams with little or no investment of their own. I wouldn't be surprised if the tea lady has had a pay freeze.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - how is it typical of that model? Talking out your backside. That model is one of pumping in funds initially, then running the business on a shoestring to raise profits for a quick sale. Unless they are looking to run a long term strategy, which would involve making the business pay for itself, which is what they are in fact doing. Isn't that just how the club was always run in the past? Isn't a self-sustaining club a good thing? You need to get that chip on your shoulder removed.}

Sorry to differ but I think we have got good owners and a good manager.

The only issue I see is whether our current manager is good enough to become a very good manager.....

On the points which I believe are correct, I am never defensive......

LiverBird

I would take Dries Mertens over Sturridge any day. Would be cheaper and the Dutch produce some great wing/forwards. He plays well on the lw move sterling/Ince on the Rw if we can get Ince for a decent price only. Then go all out for a striker Bony/Llorente and sign some Youth talent for the future (strikers,CAMS) and wait till the summer for any other dealings. Get rid of cole and end the window. Just my 2 cents.

Red American

Here is the thing mate, have you considered the possibility that Dries Mertens may NOT want to move to LFC? It's the same for Bony, Llorente, Huntelaar, etc. They have options of moving to Champions league teams who will offer a bigger package.

I like him too but he will be expensive and will likely have better options in front of him.

Can u lot stop talking about price tags and wages

Ur meant to be football supporters not accountants

But cant support downing and caroll...

Are accountants banned from being football supporters

People want to know the price of everything mate but few value anything,

For example all the slagging on here of Kenny is very foolish. It makes those who do it look very siily despite their perceived justifications.

Take Kenny out of the club and a big part of LFC would be vanquished.

Yes Kenny bought players who did not work out and they had a price but what manager has not bought players that have not worked out? Down the M62 a certain mnager has spent more on pleyers that did not work out than Kenny yet does anyone see any supporter there with more than 1 brain cell attacking their manager - NO it just does not happen.

And added to that problem Kenny was given little time to implement his new players into the team.

Prices mean little when the team is well financed and taking a surgical view of transfer prices and cutting them down and saying joe bloggs aint worth 10M or Joe Bloggs was always average is a nonsense.

Managers will buy who they think will fit their blueprint for success.

Watch and see what our manager does in Janauary will the majority agree highly unlikely!

Liberias31

Most people on here are football managers. They can make all the decisions BR makes and condense a whole season into a couple of nights managing via their little box in their room. They've done more deals than Ian Ayre has had hot dinners. They can always attract the big names to their club so if old-fashioned football fans like you would wind their neck in it would be very much appreciated. Most only post on here in between tying up six deals and playing a vital CL tie against Barcelona. Gotta dash....I'm trading Messi for 4 hot young things. I've become soooooo bored of little Leo. He's been in my team 5 days now and has only scored 234 goals.

So ozones saying martinez is to thank for swanseas success

Forgetting the fact there was another manager before BR in charge at Swansea who failed

Ignoring the fact he made Swansea a respectable PL team an finished above Martinez last season and the team he built is currently above us in the league now (Michu was being scouted during BR's reign)

And u guys wonder why I go in on these types of posters

How are they fans? They want to see BR, his signings anD thus Liverpool FC fail

There are some rational posters on here keeping up the reputation of our once great fan base

And its not about being against people having negative opinions its the abusive posters an the ill informed posters who take a rumour or something and use it against the team/manager

Shak Attack

I also think Martinez was largely responsible for Swansea's success.

Obviously someone had to come in and finish the job he left, and that man was Rodgers.
But there is no doubt, the man who turned Swansea around is Martinez.

M.Aurelius

Shak mate, I agree with your posts, most of them. But, for every argument you make, Ozone and co. will have a counter argument, mostly incomprehensible. Leave them be. I trust in BR and FSG!

The real AG

Well didn't that man souza do a decent job before martinez started ? i can't remember that far back but nonetheless they both deserve credit but if martinez was appointed as liverpool manager i bet lots of people would be complaining that rodgers took his idea to the next level, likewise i'd be argueing that martinez set the platform for rodgers success, hwever to take away rodgers achievements at swansea is quite unfair.
derryred

The man who started all the passing at Swansea was Paola Sousa .

L.B.

If Martinez was responsible for Swansea's success then he is also responsible for Wigan. 10th, 17th, 14th and 11th under Bruce. Then 16th,16th, 15th, 18th under Martinez.

Why didn't he do the same trick at Wigan?

Progression of a club in a tough laegue is far more than just the manager.

Simon

Such unwillingess to give credit where its due

Roberto Martinez was the architect for the swansea blueprint of football BR came along later.

And really what does it matter?

Swansea have won nothing with either manager so copying a failed concept and arguing over who's responsible for it as if it was any good is nuts.

Liberias31

Shak Attack, Smc has got your number. He had you off big time further down the page. This argument about who got Swansea to where they are is pointless. If you think this now and Rodgers brings success with liverpool then will you all be saying the man that started this off was Roy? No you won't! Also, why are you so bothered about Swansea and Martinez? If you like Swansea, support Swansea. If you like Martinez, support Wigan.
I'm going to keep supporting Liverpool and the manager in place, Brendan Rodgers

Walcott is my preferred option too but Sturridge does have a better goals to games started ratio than walcott

Walcott also lacks things sturridge has i.e technique, crossing, power

Its out of order u guys slate Allen but he's actually been our hardest working and stand out performer other than suarez

His stats show hes doing the job he was bought for which is the "controller" but if the attacking players loke gerrard etc dont do their jobs people like u lot come on here and blame young joe allen.

Ur forgetting hes played more ames than any other player and most of those covering for lucas out of position an still won fans player of the month in his first month

All the silly goals which costs us points this season have come from ur skrtels gerrards joe coles downings etc

Downing stats? LOL what stats were those? When we bought players last season apart from enrique and suarez i was saying to my mate i dnt know why on earth we are buying them hardly no assists, no goals for crazy money...carroll i admit i was excited but i was still saying it was over 25 mill too much

Carry on slating the manager and the new players

So saying that maybe BR couldve got a cheaper version of Allen but 15 mill or so is very reasonable for the Welsh Player of the Year (won it ahead of Bale) and has only recently turned 22

Seriously u ozone and co are entitled to ur opinions but they are ill informed and hold no grounds

Shak Attack

This post is bang out of order and is twisting what I said. I have not criticised Rodgers, in fact I said in my previous post that my gripe was with transfer policy only and that I like the way we play and hope it continues. I know we have a young team and are going through a transition, I think Rodgers is doing alrite and I think he will grow into the role as time goes on - most importantly he does need time, we will not turn our club around in the space of a season or 2. Please don't lie about what i said when I made it perfectly clear in my earlier post and don't associate me with other fans as i have no idea what they have said.

Sturridge might have a better goals to games ratio but I do not think he is going to drastically alter our goal scoring rate and, as I said, stats mean nothing. Will Sturridge fit in with our style of play? I think Walcott will far more, in spite of the stats you speak of.

I think it's ridiculous that fans like you pretend a player is doing well when he isn't. Player of the year for Wales ahead of Bale? lol I know who I'd prefer at Liverpool. He is young so what if he has played a lot of games, it means he should be putting in consistently good performances. He isn't. He's bullied in midfield, he makes poor tackles, his passing range is minimal and the vision and craft in his passing isn't there. Gerrard has been another poor performer this season but his passing is on another planet to Allens. I want the lad to do well but face facts, he is playing badly and he needs dropping for a few games - bad performances should not be rewarded with extended spells in the first team.

Ahhh silly goals.... hit the woodwork so much.... etc etc no excuses lad, be realistic with yourself. We have played well in most games (notable exceptions being Arsenal and Villa - both at Anfield) and dictated play for long periods. We've also had zero luck with referees which smacks of an agenda by the FA.. but thats for another posting.... ultimately we have simply not created enough clear goal scoring opportunties or taken the ones we have made enough. Will Thomas Ince and Daniel Sturridge solve this problem? I don't see how. January is a difficult month to purchase players (as I said in my previous post) - I'd rather wait until summer rather than buying for the sake of it, which is what the potential transfers of both Ince and Sturridge seem like to me.

Comolli was banging on about Downings stats before he signed (i.e. cross % success, assist ratio, dribble success ratio, etc etc) and they mean nothing. Carroll had me worried from the outset, not as a player but the fee - he has never, in his entire career, looked at £35m player, so why were we the mugs who paid that daft price? We've been badly run in the past (and i'm talking decades now) - I don't want another transfer window that does more harm than good, if we can't bring in the desired quality then I prefer us to bring in no one and wait until summer.

You might not like what i say but I speak out of passion and love for my club and I try to speak with a sense of realism. Things ain't perfect, but I always support the club, manager, players, etc etc - but that doesn't mean I just blindly accept that everything is ok - we are the fans, we should scrutinise our club, its owners, its operations, etc etc: if we don't, who will??

SMc {Ed001's Note - being young means a player is inconsistent, that is one of the minuses of youth. So why on earth you suggest being young means he should be on form every game is beyond me! Experience teaches a player how to work through bad games.}

P.s. have to bring this up but Allen our stand out performer after Suarez? Are you having a laugh? He's done nothing, name me the positive things he has done, that he has contributed on the pitch, in the past 3 months? Working hard is not enough at Liverpool - that is the very minimum we expect from our players - Allens form has been bad for way too long now, he should be dropped for a couple of games at least. Controller? lol any player can drop back in line with his centre backs, control a 5 yard pass before looking up and playing a similar 5 yard pass to a player in space - a midfielder has to do more than that! He was touted as the 'Welsh Xavi' - well watch Xavi play and you tell me if thats true, Allen needs to improve as, at this moment in time, he is not performing well enough or doing enough in the team. I'll support him everytime he is on the pitch, but once he's off it the analysis and scrutiny begins - which is what is supposed to happen.

Charlie adam and joe allen had better ratios than any other player we purchased...look now..
pls dont go all behind ratio..
I would prefer germio over sturridge...if u look the ratio..

Shak Attack..... carry on slating our former manager ( who is a legend and in our top three managers ever ) and his players he bought and some of the older players. Do you not see the irony there, your doing the exact same thing that your attacking other people for doing. Everyone has there opinion lad just except it, I pretty much disagree with everything I have seen you post but I either stop reading after a few sentences or hit the disagree button and move on, the reason you can't do that is your needy, in your head your 1000000% right and you can't stand it when people have a differn't viewpoint to yours which in most cases is a better point than you've made and normally more factually correct! When you reply to this ( which you will because your needy ) try to keep your focus and use FACTS not name calling etc to make your point o.k. lad. Laters.

SMc - I agree that Allen isn't playing as well as he did in the opening 8 games or so when he was outstanding. However the fact that you acknowledge we have controlled most games this season and dominated possession stats underlines how much Allen is doing his job. The under-performers are the wasteful forwards and mistake-making defenders. By focussing on the fetcher-carrier (as most fans did with Lucas, remember) you let the other culprits off the hook. Bale over Allen is a silly argument because you are comparing apples and pairs. Allen was bought to provide the same sort of platform as Michael Carrick does at United. MC don't win you many games with his brilliance but he keeps it moving allowing the matchwinners to do their bit. That said, a little rest would do Allen the world of good.

Sorry but Allen is not the reason we have controlled games, our style of play is.

@ Ed001 - sorry but Sterling is 18 tears old, that is young and that is an excuse for inconsistency and less than stellar performances from time to time. 22 is totally different, Allen has been playing at a high level regularly for a few seasons now. I don't expect him to play amazing every time but the fact is he is playing amazing none of the time - he is consistently bad. I'm not saying he is the worst player ever, what I am saying is that he needs to be dropped for a few games. Giving players an almost guaranteed starting berth is a bad idea, it doesn't work and certainly doesn't encourage competition. Allen, despite what you and others say, has been nowhere near good enough so far this season. If we keep playing him in midfield then expect the midfield to get overrun and dominated on regular occasions, I think my criticisms of him are fair and accurate - but please editor enlighten me and tell me what he has done so well do far this season...

SMc {Ed001's Note - totally different? If you say so it must be true, because you know so much you can't even tell what Allen brings to the side. Your criticisms are utter nonsense, he has yet to be dominated or overrun in midfield, even when not playing well out of position. He may not have been as creative as we would like, but a lot of that is down to lack of movement and options in front of him and the usual covering for Gerrard that the rest of the team has to do every game. You need to try watching football and learning about the game and stop looking for things to whine about. You do know that the reason the youth teams go up to 23 is because it is felt by experts, that 23 is still young, in terms of footballers, don't you? That would be why your utter nonsense about 22 not being young is just that.}

Well Shak Attack,

The problem with you is you refer to Kenny Dalglish in most of your posts while defending Brendan Rodgers........

If you are unable to support previous managers who have done very well for the club, what is the guarantee that you will not slate Brendan Rodgers come the next opportunity?

Your idea of support to a manager is diabolical to say the least...

As far as players and clubs are concerned, no club ever buys a player hoping that he will be a FLOP....

So slating players like Henderson, Adam, Carroll, Downing, etc is utterly disrespectful and throws at your face your idea of being a football fan...

And do remember that they are still LFC players (Adam apart)....So what kind of a fan are you? Get behind them and show your support instead of referring them with terms like deadwood, flop, useless etc

Grow up.

Hi Eds, could I have your opinion on the impact you think Sturridge would have? Do you think he'll be a good signing. I'm not sure he's what we need.

Thanks

rikdangerous {Ed001's Note - I am not convinced, but I think he will be an improvement over our current options, at least he can put the ball in the back of the net. I just don't think he is a long term answer.}

For the money and being the Jan window, it's well worth a punt. I do worry we already have a greedy forward (as much as I love him). Suarez could/should have at least five more assists this season. Nothing wrong with greedy forwards mind, the best always are, but we need a balance. Ince would fall into a similar category for me, leaving sterling and suso our only attackers who play with their head up. A fit Assaidi would be a welcome addition too.

JF

I would be pleased will sturridge , yes he is not perfect but shelvey (who i rate) or sturridge up front , its a no brainer , and IF we could get walcott too i would be chuffed as punch that would be a great january window for us ...........andy.
