Just seen SSN report on Rafa outside his house on Mersyside. I might not want him back but i absolutely love the man.

We need to look for a young manager who plays good attractive football (Joacham Leow) and i don't think Rafa or Roy are the right people.

Not sure we anyone would want rafa back. 451 is crap and roy has been changing to a 442. Rafa is so defensive and played to get 1 chance 1 goal. I believe his rotation system in the early years cost us the league. Not saying i like roy i want a manager that has the philosophy we are going to out score you atleast if you lose it was a good attacking game.

I think it's fair to say the majority of us don't want Rafa back. I think the reason that some do want him back is because of the situation/ position we are in now. And things surely couldn't get any worse even under Rafa?

We all need to get back to reality and the problem at hand (Roy Hodgson).

I would only be up for rafa returning if he takes a break from football for 2-3yrs. The man is seriously losing it. His outbursts have become embarrassing and his paranoia knows no limits. Look at how his health has suffered since 2005, he looks shocking. Do yourself a favour rafa, enjoy your money, enjoy your kids growing up and come back in 5 yrs or so refreshed and re-focussed. There are dozens of better candidates out there right now, rafa 2010 is a pale shadow of rafa 2005. I'd take rafa 05 but definitely not rafa 10.

Why are people hoping we get rafa back , you are all saying that it would be differant with nesv giving him financial backing , HOWEVER when h+g were in charge , When he did get money HE WASTED it , And nearly ruined our beloved club, so don't get him back i would rather hodgson. He turned inter from a treble winning team , to now 7th in the league in just 6 months.
Seriously Think about it Why want him?

Liverpool Rumours
Roy hasnt shown us exactly what he is made of on when it comes to transfers yet to my mind he has made 3

Poulson - flop but to be fair someone who should have the calibre when you look at where he has played and the level he has played at in the past i.e champs league bundesliga, seira a, champs league and international should have done better

Konsch - not been that bad, english so a big box ticked (remember when rafa left we had something like 5 players which counted as home grown on the prem rules), Premier league proven, delivers a good ball and hasnt really let us down baring one error against spurs (im sure i will get slated over this comment but would people rather have insua, dossena or djimi traore? )

Meirles - no one saw this coming and so far the guy looks quality surely a pat on the back for Roy.

Comolli is touted as finding hiddden gems but im pretty sure the players he has found in the past are not that under the radar but he has had the bottle / foresight to make the signings when others have waited. (Bale - at saints everyone knew the kid was gonna go to a prem side / dos santos - was touted as the next ronaldinho at barca no suprise someone wnt in for him tbh what happend to him / modric - was being chased by many some say spuyrs payed over the top to get him proving his worth now though / Berbs - well known champs league standard striker before the move to spurs)

my point by all this is lets not count our chickens and lets use sense to see who we MAY sign or bid for. The guess is that all players will be younger with potential some who maybe havent achieved the potential that they should / could be capable of. Players signed will be of international standard and it wouldn't suprise me if they featured / caught the eyes of the "comitee" at the world cup. I think a buy british or english policy will be in place especially when signing the younger players 17 / 18 yr olds and I think there may be a few suprises i.e miereles before Jan is out.

And on a serious note people really need to remeber Roy knows he is potentially buying for his career and reputation I really don't think he will buy the likes of David Bently (or at least i hope not anyway! )

Barely 5months ago, all the posts were. Sack Rafa - get Roy!
Now it's Sack Roy - get Rafa! You fickle 'fans?'! We do need to sack Roy, but Rafa isn't coming back, he hated not having control, and now we have Comolli, to control transfers, so forget it! We will probably get a young British manager, or someone cheap, but decent like a Villas Boas?
Ed? Do you agree? On both points? {ed's note - I fully agree mate, time to move on and remember Rafa for what he did in the past.}

As much as a love and respect Rafa for the trophies that he did bring to us and for making us believe. I don't think he would be the right man for the job now. He always demands 100% control over transfers and we know that that is not possible now with transfers decided by a comittee. I think we all know Rafa is a better manager than Roy but, would you all not rather have a new manager, someone we can fall in love with again and worship someone new. I say refresh things, make them new, get a likable manager in, someone who defends their club, players and fans. On to January, for now we can only speculate, lets all keep our fingers crossed and hope.

Happy Christmas Red Bretherin

Did Liverpool win the league? The answer is no and it was down to negative tactics and poor substitutions, it doesn't matter if we had points that would have won the league in previous seasons. Don't know who you are mate, but I endorse this post 100%.

Just to clarify, I am more than happy, ecstatic, to move on. Rafa wasn't Jesus, but it hasn't stopped some people trying to crucify him. All I want to do is prevent the skum media narrative gaining koin among LFC fans.

BTW Rafa is the reason the utd team that won the title 2 years ago is not called the Untouchables. 4-1. Touchable :)

The fact that Rafa polarised views says it all really. Now you will never change the views of people who rated him and didn't want him gone and likewise the people who didn't want him a moment longer are not going to change their minds.

I thought it was a little more in favour of Rafa? I was under the impression the season ticket holders were the main core of fans that supported him?

Anyway enjoyed reading the views. We didn't generate into a verbal brawl.

Onto something else before the ed kicks me out of the right back slot in the top tier, cause he and I are miles apart when it comes to Rafa!

With the transfer window we have to remember the squad can be no greater than 25. I cannot actually remember what number our list was at the end of August. 21?

If so the list of many coming in and none going out won't happen in any event but the squad list of 25 will ensure a couple of moves, if that.

You are a character bob the red, see I think we didn't win the league because of rafas stubborness, poor substitutions and being to defensive at times. I remember coming up to Xmas we were top of the league we had hull at home I think, we went 2-0 down early but brought it back to 2-2 by half time. So I thought plenty of goals second half how wrong could I be. Rafa being negative it finished 2-2, I'm sure we had keane on the bench but he chose to bring on ngog.

It amazes me in a season where we only lost 2 games & got more points that had won the league in previous seasons that some people talk of negative tactics & poor substitutions.

The Irish Rover

to the first post, i think it was lucas that he brought on not ngog.
and to the follow on post, i think what the guy is trying to say is, to bring it back from 2 down to 2-2 at half time was the ideal time to bring on an extra forward and kill the game off. instead rafa was more concerned of them scoring and so brought on a defensive player, that imo is a negative move. we played some of the best football in years the last 10 games of that season when we were trailing united, because we had to win every game to have a chance of winning the title. but in reality it should have been them chasing us had games like hull and stoke been more positive. yes we only lost twice, but we drew quite a few that we could and maybe should have.

Did anyone watch the bilboa/ barca match tonight? San Jose had a great game in a nil/ nil draw, solid, young, quality centre back. We should buy. . oh wait a minute he was ours and we sold him for £2.5m! Another youngster who we let go, there are two more plying their trade in the premiership, and Hamill is getting rave reviews. We can and do produce good youngsters, lets give them a chance and stop wasting money ( and dreams) on foreigners. We have a manager problem Rafa always played safe and RH is worse. And for anyone who doesn't believe the manager makes the difference just look at Spurs and 'appy 'arry.

Let me explain something to you, son. Some of the shareholders in NESV made their money from hedge funds and venture capital, but NESV (Fenway) is a sports investment management business. They see long-term capital appreciation in the club that will come from incleasing ground capacity/ building a new stadium and improving the squad and how it is manged for commercial purposes.

On espn it says this

Benitez is still Inter coach for now, says Moratti
Tue, 21 Dec 20:52:00 2010

Email
Print
Confusion continued to reign over the future of Inter Milan coach Rafael Benitez on Tuesday after club president Massimo Moratti played down widespread speculation that he had been sacked.
Reports said Spaniard Benitez, only at the European and Italian champions since June, was being removed because of his side's poor domestic form and his outburst over what he saw as Inter's lack of ambition following Saturday's World Club Cup win.
"At the moment the coach of Inter is still Benitez, " Moratti told reporters outside his offices where he had held meetings with club officials.
"I haven't been in contact with any other coach."
Brazilian Leonardo, who left as coach of city rivals AC Milan in May after just one season as manager, has become favourite to succeed Benitez after Zenit St Petersburg said their boss Luciano Spalletti would be staying in Russia.
"Let's not joke, " Moratti said when asked about reports he had held talks with Leonardo.
Former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga has also been linked with the job despite Benitez saying on Monday he was surprised by the reports about his imminent sacking.

But Keane was carp because of Rafa. Rafa always played him on the left or the right in the 4-2-3-1 because he liked that system. And if he played up top, it was always as a lone striker and we all know Keane's best position was up front with a strike partner, because he always dropped deep to get the ball. He was played out of position a lot, and often found himself subbed after maybe 60mins, or sitting on the bench. Rafa never wanted him.

I have never rated Keane. Don't get me wrong I love the lad, being a ROI follower, and I have watched his career with interest. I always thought it was difficult to 'take the ball off him' because he never really had it, you didn't tackle him, you merely concentrated a bit more. He works his arse off every game and he tries so hard. But when he came to us, he knew he would have to adapt to our game, and he simply couldn't. I always thought that year, that, in the same position utd or chelski would have gone and bought in the 25-30m range again, to boost their challenge, especially given the success that Torres had proved to be. 19 league appearances and just 5 goals was what lost LFC the league that season, and once again Rafa had to settle for what he was given, second best at best.
I think the last sentence of your post is the most important one. You're right, Rafa didn't want him, but like so many other players, he had to take him, or take what he could get. Wasn't it Parry that brought him in?

Look at what Mourinho did when Abramovich foisted 30m Shevchenko on him.

Look, I don't want to hijack the banter section for another round of Rafa Wars, I just got really annoyed at the vitriol that was aimed at the guy, and he always struck me as a gent. It fairly makes my blood boil to hear so-called fans calling him the manure nickname, and I am old enough to know better.

I can't make the Rafa haters understand that we are LFC and we take care of our own, I guess they will either learn it or move on.

It is being reported that Rafa has been sacked by Inter.

Now is the time Mr Henry to get rid of Roy and put Rafa back where he belongs - at the helm once again of our great club.

Just imagine what he could achieve with the backing of solid owners.

How many of my fellow reds are thinking the same?

BELIEVE for yes and UNBELIEVE for no.

Hi ed, do you or anybody know much about the young winger/ forward Muniain for Bilbao? He came on in the second half against Barca and looked really good - strong, creative and direct. Apparently his contract runs til 2014. Anybody seen much of him? Connor Wickham doesn't seem quite the prospect at £10m after seeing this kid.

Guy's Guy's come on. Barcelona cannot afford Torres without selling. They are 450 Million in debt! Yes they have a new sponsorship deal but the 125 million is not up front it is 25 million a year over 5 years which will help to service the debt. To buy Torres they would have to sell, same with Fabregas or they will just go deeper into the red.

I am not expecting any fireworks this January, but a few squad trimmings/ loans going out and maybe a couple of players coming in. NESV may make a marquee signing but only if we have a new manager and we can get the player we want in the Winter window. If not wait till the summer for major changes. The new manager, (which I think will happen) will determine if Torres stays IMHO. Liverpool are going to have to climb the ladder step by step as NESV are not going to through an open cheque book at us.

I heard from a friend of the familys that Carragher 'has his own agenda' at LFC.

Gerrard is a wonderful player but he is no Captain for me. He just tries doing everything himself. Coupled with the unfortunate incident after beating Newcastle Utd 5-1 in which the club took no disciplinary action you have to wonder if other players think he can do no wrong. The club should come before any player surely.

Any thoughts Ed?

Liam O {ed's note - I do think the pair of them have to much power at the club, especially as neither have many years left as players.}

And Keane was sheep. But I'm sure the Rafa haters will come up with more reasons why it was all Rafa's fault, while conspicuously ignoring the fact that we scored more points than we ever (with 1 exception I think, if you proportion 2 pts for a win into 3) had before, even when winning. Yeah, they'll spout that he attacked other managers, while ignoring that Fergie and Jose do it all the time. They'll probably have a go at him for belittling brave litte Blackburn while they're at it, but hopefully not too much for the mask to slip lads eh?

Santon is far better than Kelly and has far better potential. He could be the best right-back in the world given the right guidance. He's a solid defender but he's good at going forward aswell.

I'm not saying Kelly's bad. I think he's done quite well since coming into the team. But he's a centre-back in all fairness and if we plan to use him as a right-back then it wouldn't help having some squad depth.

One reason. He didn't replace Keane in Jan 09 and then Torres started his 'made of glass' campaign.

Plus Howard Webb gave that awful penalty against Spurs when manure were down and out 0-2 and gave them a lifeline.

Plus they had a world class defender that Parry completely ballsed up that was Rafa's first target but we dallied whilst they signed. (Vidic) I think we eventually signed Rafa's 3rd or 4th pick, Skrtel a year or so later.

My case for Rafa grows with every post! I'm starting to believe my own crap!

Fine lines LAVERS, fine lines stopped us that season. But i doubt we'll be saying anything remotely resembling that phrase for a good few years now :(

Especially after saying "Lfc is not a top club anymore, proven by not getting in the top 4 like Man City". - try and word better so we can all understand.

Also, regarding a previous point you made, because we didn't finish in the top 4 doesn't mean we're not a top club anymore. Real Madrid failed to get the top 4 one year, that didn't mean they were no longer a top club.

21 Dec 2010 19:15:06
Liverpool Rumours
I've heard and read all too often how Rafa "lost the dressing room" last season.Well, I beg to differ.
Two things happened last season:

-the long strained/ not so lovey relationship between Rafa and Gerrard of Carragher came to a head. The Scouse duo, in cahoots with Christian Purslow (who the Spanish born tactician was gunning for), conspired against Rafa.
-the then chairman, Martin Broughton, had a decision to make:Purslow or Benitez.Purslow was important strategy-wise in the Broughton's quest to oust the Messr Hicks&Gillett.Broughton saw and decided that Rafa staying would've resulted in considerable controversy, and indeed, instability. .which could very well have negatively impacted the sale process. So Rafa it was then who's head the axe descended upon.(The horrible we had made the task that lot easier).

Now, on to the Scouse duo of Carragher and Gerrard.
Carra (who we all know was not all pally with Rafa) knew his time was about to be up.(Anyone remember him saying he wouldn't hesitate to move if he wasn't getting games?).Rafa was to give him a one year deal and limit his game time.
Gerrard knew he hadn't performed the past two seasons, and so did Rafa. And having seen how Rafa tried to ship out Alonso when he wasn't performing, he knew he may have been next.

Stevie, on top of being below par, was becoming, Rafa, too much of a big head;too much of a negative influence. He had to sort the situation out, like he did at Valencia.Stevie knew it, Carra knew it.They decided to act, and act they began to.

Neither Gerrard nor Carra came out backing Rafa, whilst the likes of Nando, Kuyt, Pepe, Masch etc were more than happy to do so.
Gerrard didn't bust a gut for us, but did so England at the WC.
Carra always didn't take kindly to being played out of position, but with, he has no problems doing so.

So again, Rafa NEVER lost the players, except that his already strained relationships with captain and vice finally took a turn for the worst.
Had Rafa stayed, I can say 100% that Gerrard would've went, Carra would not have got that two year deal Purslow and Hodgson gave him.
He never lost Torres, Kuyt, Pepe, Masch, Lucas etc.

If you carefully noticed everything that happened and was said last season, and this season, the scales will fall from your eyes. That most of the team wanted Rafa out is a myth. .unless of course "most" is Gerrard and Carragher.

Rafa was NOT sacked for footballing as such.Footballing reasons only made the process that much easier.
Oh, before I go.Those who keep bashing Rafa for "his public moaning", do ever stop and wonder who leaked the news that Rafa will be gone in 48 hours? At a time the emphasis had been on strict confidentiality, a story like this is leaked.
I'll let you get your head around that.

So Long!

I've been running something through my brain that may be stupid but until I hear someone else's view I can't clarify it; now there's these new rules coming into place regarding clubs "living within their means" in terms of only spending what they can afford/ wages makign up % of turnover/ them being profitable etc. . . .

So what if one of the pals of Man Cities owners decide to sponser Man City either shirts or stadium or anything for £100m per year; they have the money so I'm not too sure these "handcuffs" will work and rich owners (providing they want to pay) will have a loop hole.

I'll leave it up to you lot to decide but please respond if you have other thoughts on this. .

Hoola

{Editor's Note: Sponsorship is already dealt with in the new rules. The rules seem pretty airtight - it is really a case of following them or deciding not to follow them and taking the consequences - which would be interesting if a number of clubs do that. In principle, all major clubs have already agreed to follow the fules - but time moves on.}

But how much profit would they get in "a year or two"? Say they decided to sell in a year, I doubt they'd be making £150-200m profit on the club. Maybe £50m or so because we are debt free. That would be a waste of time! £50m wouldn't do much for the Red Sox for example, given the fact that they've handed their players contracts worth like £120m or so was it? If they do want to make a profit on Liverpool they'll need to get us back into the Champions League at the very least, or even make us title challengers and increase the profits that the club are making.

Just wondering folks, what do we think of a winter break?
It appears that these harsh winters are here to stay, would a winter break help us?
We also need to think of how this would affect tournaments, I for one would like to see the break.
Last two seasons have seen numerous games postponed over winter, a 1 month break would get rid of this issue, and would also give a decent break to a country who often sees teams playing in 3-4 competitions at this time of year.

Believe- Agree
Disbelieve - Disagree

Ed, your thoughts?

RE: 5 Stars

Could someone possibly enlighten me as to why liverpool doesn't have the european cup stars on the shirt like all the other teams and was just wondering what the thoughts on other fans were as to whether they think we should have them or not

I believe teams who have won the Champions League 5 times or more now have a "Multiple Winners Badge" which UEFA introduced to replace the wearing of stars on club jerseys. But since we're playing in the Europa League that probably doesn't apply at the moment anyway. .

Ryan
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The addition of 5 stars round the club badge is the choice of the club. Not all teams do that. AC Milan for example just have 2 stars, and I know Madrid don't have 10!

I think we have taken to decision (like other multiple winners Madrid and Milan) that we don't want to appear to be living in the past, or displaying arrogance. We don't need to add 5 stars to our badge to inform people who we are and what we've done. Dont forget, we also have the eternal flames on our badge, so its based on a certain class.

The blue badge to denote 5 or more Euro Cups (LFC, Milan & Madrid) or 3 consecutive Euro Cups (ala Munich and Ajax) should only be worn in European, not domestic competition.

To end, ManUre have no claim on any Euro Blue Badge or badge of any other colour as they are not successful enough.

ha , chin up son! Its not so bad that we'll end up at Stamford Bridge! Agree its been pretty dire though.

We'll have a new Honda in January, and we are still only 9 points behind Chelsea in 4th with half a season to go.

If NESV and Comolli let Woy sign SWP, Bentley, Carlton Cole (would rather Carlton from the Fresh Prince!), they won't be making the kind of statement they say they want to maike.

Im quite optimistic. Lets have it!

But since we're playing in the Europa League that probably doesn't apply at the moment anyway. .

Ed, do you think Carlos Slim Helu will try to become the major shareholder in Liverpool? He already has a small stake as he ownes 20% of the New York Times Company, part of NESV.

{Editor's Note: Are NESV looking to sell up already? I very much doubt it would give the level of return Signor Helu would expect from an investment.}

LAVERS

You are nearly right, except it was worse, he brought on El Zhar and Lucas when he had Babel (who was our only player to have scored against all the other top four teams in the previous two seasons btw)and Keane on the bench, he pushed Hyppia up top then said something about not wanting to play long ball in his post match interview. .he played politics because the board (Parry) wouldn't sign barry so brought on Lucas as a f'''' you and wouldn't bring on Keane for the same reason. He did the same against West Ham, I was at both games and it was those games that cost us the title! That was when he lost a great deal of support from within Anfield, I heard the other fans and what they were saying and I can categorically say that WAS the moment that the groundswell of opinion changed and I go to every Home game and you could sense it. Despite the win at St James's those two games cost us due to Rafa's politics that season and that is why he eventually went, he saw his own agenda over the clubs.

Believe me, those fair play rules will not change a thing. While on paper they sound great the teams that need to will get around the rules with image rights contracts which will negate the transfer spend. And if that doesn't work they will threaten a breakaway euro league. If all the best players play for those clubs who's going to win that battle? Trust me, Mansour has the lawyers all over this one. If NESV have this as their business model then it is doomed to failure. RED77

RE: New Fair Play Rules

{Editor's Note: In broad terms, teams will not be able to spend beyond their means as you say. However, punishment is based upon an initial wrist slapping and then exclusion from European competition which means that teams may well chose to make that hard decision and not play in Europe. It needs to be tested over quite a few years to see how it works - there is no comeback on anything done for three years, so there will undoubtedly be some abuse.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
See your point Ed. Yet more new rules which are grey and open to abuse!

However, surely the best players will only want to play for teams who are in European competition. Citeh could get away with it once or twice, but their whole business model must be based on the exposure brought by European football?

Ditto Chelski or anyone else with minted owners.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I think all this talk of the Qatari's going for Manure and even Sheikh Mo coming back in for LFC or another team is meaningless because of the new Fair Play rules for next year.

If I understand correctly, these rules will reduce Man City's spending power by as much as 90% and restore the equilibrium to the traditional teams with big international fan bases.

Teams won't be able to spend beyond their means - which leaves NESV in a great position and able to compete with anyone, providing they get our market appeal and commercial activities back on track.

LFC are one of the top 5 supported teams in the world, so they should be one of the top 5 spenders inside 5 years.

Ed: Have I got a rough grasp of this, or am I wide of the mark?

RG

Ed, it probably stems from us being second rate in terms of finance for so long. We have been overtaken by the likes of Citeh and now the Yods are pushing ahead of us as well. Finally the Mancs looked vunerable and then all of a sudden untold riches are on offer from some rich benefactor. Unless we are all going to be patient enough to sit and wait while the club is rebuilt from the bottom up which could take ten years or more, then a sugar daddy is the only way to compete in this day and age. Its sad but true. RED77

{Editor's Note: Liverpool have spent no small amount of money over recent years - just not terribly well. Manchester City have a very large squad including players who are not getting a game and are clearly unhappy at that - and I imagine that the drssing room at Eastlands is not the happiest of places. Fans of other clubs do not seem to suffer this obsession.}

All the rumours are attack minded players and i agree that we need them, lets sort out the defence first.once we have that sorted te quality that we already have will make a difference.i believe we need 3 defenders 1 winger and attacker.i understand that everything has to do with finance, but if nesv bought us just to listen and to learn, and come up with the answer that arsenal have there place in order they have bought the wrong club.we are the biggest club in the world with the best supporters.we have just been run badly for a long long time.i am from malta and have been to many places in the world.we have so many supporters its unreal.i just want these americans to realize that listing and learning makes sense.but i am not sure that hodsgen and comolli and the right people for them to learn what liverpool is all about.comolli could leave as fast as he came.we ned rush daglish hansen lawrence on the technical board when they discuss new talented players.and the reasen why i am saying this is, they could step down from any job at liverpool, but there heart will never leave, what do you think ed?

{Editor's Note: I disagree that players should be bought back to the club as a "technical board" - it makes no real sense to me and would likely annoy any new manager - I also disagree that three new defenders are needed. There are younger defenders (Kelly for example) who are beginning to break in to the team; Ayala is out on loan getting experience; Wilson may well come through; Agger is injured etc.. So perhaps one central defender will come in at some point.}

"Red Owl"

Look here, mate, if your only contribution to this site is some inane nitpicking and splitting hairs bordering on petulance, you don't have any business here.Your grammatical correctness would b much appreciated elswhere, NOT here.

This is a football forum. You can banter. You're more than welcome to state your (substantiated) views, mate, just go about that without resorting to this pettiness. The ed indeed branded you arrogant cause that's what he thought of you, and he gave reason for that. He's entitled to that view. .just like you're more than entitled to dispute that.No abuse;no childishness there.

I'd have expected that a man of your "intelligence" and "impeccability" would know that and respond accordingly. But no, you had to be spiteful;you made it your mission to look for and find whatever flaw, perceived or real, in the ed's comments and pick on him.Really petulant, just pathetic.

Now tell me, are you a happy fella now, Owl, huh?Is that what you do. .validate your own points by nitpicking on others'?
Nuff said about.I see that the "Rafa come back/ don't come back" discussion rages on.Well, I've already my two cents on that.
I loved and respected the man.I believed in him and his for our great.

I wanted him to be given a chance to right last season, a chance I believe he deserved. But it didn't happen;he went. The man who'd given me some of the best days and nights of my life had been forced out.
I got on with it.
I've moved on.

As much as I love him, best he doesn't return (yet);that ship has but sailed.Let's not go back there, lads.Let's channel all our energies into making our new era (which will really start probably in May) as best as it can be.

Let's back to the tilt Tom and John, new coach, new players and CEO (once all in place). But that's NOT to say we should forget Rafa. No, no, no.That's impossible, well at least for me.
The man will forever be big part of us.
Each time I see Suso, Pacheco, Ayala strutting their stuff in our new stadia (or redeveloped Anfield), dominating the Prem, I'll look at Rafa, smile, take my hat off to him and say, "good on you, old boy, you did it. .we did. That's a fact, as you'd say.Gracias, amigo".

But now we move on, focus on the future. .and believe me lads, it will be delectably sweet when it starts happening. .so much so that we gonna look at some of our tribulations (like this Woy Comedy) and laugh.

We WILL do it, boys. .the stum knows, Murdoch knows, the bitters know. .but I'm sure if our fellow boys know it.Ed, do you know it?

WE"LL DO IT BOYS

WHY would you want Rafa back. . all you have to do is look at his transfer policy. . shocking. .he got 1 player out of 10 right and flooded our youth system with dross. . over his tenure we resorted to 1, 2, 3, lump it and over his time, he alienated and lost his players confidence. . the current squad is RAFAS fault. .no one elses. .not the owners. not dock parry. .WE came second. .what did he do when you needed to improve for the next season. .he sold his BEST player and replaced him with a lightweight with a busted leg. he sold our right back and replaced him with (18m) a defender that can't defend and left go hyypia and replaced him with £2m greek. .no wonder we came 7th. .I don't question rafas coaching skills. .i sure he is good coach. .be he'll never a top manager. .there is a difference. .he is too stuborn. he has'nt an eye for a player and his people and motivational skills are poor. . we have no idea how lucky HE AND WE are have steven gerrard. .but for HIS superhuman demigod performances in the finals of the two competitons rafa won, rafa would be gone long before he went. All i hope for now is the team can bring in some quality players in january and get us moving in the right direction up the table. .is roy the man. .I for one don't think so but he was handed a pup in the sqaud we have. .i think we need to back him and "SEE" in the summer were we are. .what other option have we have. sack him and replace him with who. .coyle, o neill, rijkaard. . god no

Hi Bob the Red. I know what you mean with Rafa - a bit like my best mates girlfriend. His first choice was Jessica Alba, 2nd was Eva Mendes but in the end he had to settle for Susan Boyle. Did you ever listen to what your actually saying mate. So he could'nt buy his first or second choice which were brilliant "unlike all other managers of course" so he had to settle for rubbish. Yeah Right. Andre Dossena should'nt have been even a 20th choice, as should'nt Voronin, Degan, Nunez, Paletta Insua & Josemi but to name a few of the utter rubbish he brought to the club. It's amazing the lenghts these RAfa heads will go to defend this chancer. Inter will be his last job for a long time.

Rafa fans why didn't we win the league 2 yrs ago?

LAVERS

Ashley young has to be a must! he's decent with the ball and gets passed people. with the love of the fans behind him he should and could be unstoppable. plus he knows the league and he won't be one of them players to take months to settle. also bentley would be a great squad signing.

babel doesn't look intrested anymore just gives the ball away too easy! he needs to move on then we can invest in a youngster with the money.

Still bryan ruiz is quality you can see that from the way he moves and touches the ball . he has a great technical ability. ive seen him alot and i think we should sign him. even if he doesn't score as much. he still delivers

If a striker doesn't score goals, what do you mean by 'he still delivers'? To my mind, and I recall Ian Rush saying this years ago, a striker should be aiming for a goal every other game. Ruiz has a ratio of about that in Holland. The reason we're talking about it is do we think a very poor Dutch league can be used as a benchmark for judging a player's quality? Personally I have very strong doubts, though as evidenced by the two or three examples, there are exceptions, of which Ruiz may be one.

Hazard/ Mata - Lille/ Valencia - £15-£20 Million
Pjanic/ Defour - Lyon/ Liege - £10 -£15 Million
Honda - CSKA - £10 Million
Adam Johnson - £15 - £20 Million
Aly Cissokho - Lyon £15 - £20 Million

To replace

Poulsen
Konchesky
Soto
Jovanovic
Maxi
Kuyt
Babel

Then youth we already have at the club being involved in the first team alot more such as. .

Pacheco
Shelvey
Spearing
Kelly
Ayala
Suso (Not just yet though!)

Obviously this is not all to be done in January but completed by the summer and I feel this overhaul would make the squad competitive on all fronts once again and would be a good solid foundation to start another prelonged sucessful period at Anfield. I know i have listed some top quality youngsters above and the total cost on the top line would be £135 Million if all targets were acquired but i feel this is the only bracket of player we should be looking at if we want to be competitive once again. We could raise roughly £40 Million through sales of the above list and also other fringe players or players out on loan (Aquilani) so NESV would have to spend about £95 Million, the question is would they spend this over the course of 2 transfer windows?

What do you think People, ed?

Hi there,

Been visiting the site for a long time but first time poster.

Re. who should be Liverpool manager, I believe that Roy needs to go - he is not a Liverpool manager in a million years. As to who we replace him with, whilst I think Rafa largely had the best of intentions for Liverpool and had his hands tied by the two muppets, we need to let go of that idea. Rafa has been and gone, and I hope he is successful elsewhere.

Personally I'd like to see us get an Owen Coyle/ Boas from Porto, with someone like Roy Evans brought in alongside to get back to the Liverpool Way (and I loved seeing Roy E's attacking football)

Does anyone on here have any ideas on what type of manager the players want? Do they see a Mourinho/ other big name as the fix or would they be happy with an up and comer? Is there a fear that an up and comer wouldn't help us get the top line/ potential top line players?

Hi Ed

As Liverpool are now debt free and profitable. . .how much do we actual make (profit) per year which could be used to invest in players?

REDNOSE

{Editor's Note: You will need to the year after next to see the accounts for this season - so nobody knows. There may be some additional one off costs to account for as well - if Roy Hodgson's contract is terminated early, if the club sell Jovanovic or anyone else who arrived on a nominal "free" transfer. Don't try and build a pot of transfer money based on profit.}

Thanks Ed, but is this not NESV's theory i.e. the club to be self sufficient, so surely club profits and transfer kitty will be closely linked. . I thought I heard somewhere that LFC make in the region of 50million profit per year.

{Editor's Note: Liverpool's profit for recent years is:

£Millions

2007/08
Turnover 159.052
Profit 10.199

2006/07
Turnover 133.910

2005/06

2004/05

Loss -21.903

2002/03

2001/02
Turnover 98.668
Profit 9.092

2000/01

From memory turnover for 08/09 is around £170M. So nothing even close to a £50M profit.}

Just a thought from left field. With the likely continuance of Arsenal's trophy drought leading to the possibility of the fans and board getting fed up with Arsene, and/ or him getting fed up, how would reds fans feel about him at Anfield? Personally, I think he's a superb manager, but he can also be a complete tit w/ r/ t the media. But could it work at Liverpool? Ed and anyone?

SpanishChris

{Editor's Note: I can't see it at all and I doubt that he would have any interest in the job.}

No, I can't see it either, but just wondered how people felt about him, and more to the point how they felt about playing great footie but not winning much? I mean, the club is very well run (arsenal), perennial CL latter stages, great to watch etc. What are our priorities as a club? How would we feel in a similar position? Dunno, I think it's an interesting situation there is all. I think about Wenger, then I think about our fans calling for Mourinho because he's a winner. Do people really feel we must win at all costs, even if that cost is the very soul of the club?

I don't mean a manager that has won in the past, A manager that is winning now, Roy isn't good enough for us, he was appointed to try n do what he did at fulham, to try n get the best out of our mediocre players till the club can afford someone better. Your missing the point in what i'm saying, i don't want an experienced manager, I want one who has an experience of winning. There is a difference. Roy us under the first brackett.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Let's look at this realistically. Any manager that comes in is going to have to rebuild the team as it is nowhere near good enough. This takes time. A winning manager can not turn things around instantly, he may have a few desent results to start with but then the cracks in the team show. Managers who are winning things now will have taken, and been given, time to do this. There is no quick fix. It took the great Shankly time to get us to winning ways consistently.

My 1st choice to replace Roy would be the 'unbeaten' Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas '33, who many consider to be the Luke Skywalker to Mourinho's Yoda. Jose took him under his tutelage, making Villas-Boas an integral part of his staff, both at Porto, where he won two league titles, the Champions League and the UEFA Cup and later during his successful spells at Chelsea and Inter Milan. While Villas-Boas plays a much more fluidity, he's to be more tactically sophisticated than his mentor. His Porto squad attacks alot more than any of Mourinho's teams ever did, whilst still maintaining an impecable record. It's tempting to call Mr Villas-Boas Liverpool's answer to Theo Epstein.
Owen Coyle could also be a contender.

Yes, let us not forget the behind the scenes fiasco that Plick Parry bestowed upon Rafa. When you have quality first class players as first choice and you have to settle with the 3rd or 4th choice alternative and then have the fans moan that your signings are crap.

And on the the very odd occasion you actually get your first choice (Torres) just look at how successful they were.

When fans actually realise the players that were due to be to signed only for Parry, Hicks, Gillett, Moores to completely cock it all up and Rafa had to accept poor substitutions then they may just start waking up and thinking 'Christ, now we understand'.

Rafa only started moaning in public about the constant lies fed to him and the broken promises regarding signings when he could see the club starting to go tits up.

Thnaks to the bloke who posted about Pennant. I had completely forgot about that one. Rafa wanted Alves, he got Pennant.

"Sometimes I'm frightened as a manager that I might get rid of a player who will be good for the club on the basis that there might be a name out there that looks a bit higher than the player you already have at the club, " he said.

"When that player comes in and you work with them for two months, you realise that the name is great and it rings big bells but, in actual fact,

he is no better than the player you let go. He maybe even worse.

"I don't think this group of players will let the club down. I think they will play plenty of good matches between now and the end of the season.

"Whether we are going to start breaking into the top four or hitting the heights without some additions, I'm not prepared to say. I would like to keep my powder dry."

As said by Roy Hodgson. . . NESV are really starting to annoy me with this one. Anyone else? ?

Its very, very easy to blame uncle Woy. The REAL villain is RAFA. Woy is managing the same side he finished 7th with. Plus a couple of added misfits that he could blag on the cheap whilst the dodgy yanks swindled the money away from the Mascherano transfer. This nightmare started LAST YEAR. I agree, his ridiculous post match comments have not helped him one bit but this ridiculous witch hunt is very un-LFC. We are turning into a run of the mill glory seeking mid table set of fans who are living off a distant past. Whether he is the right man for the job or not is a decision we must take after at least giving the guy a chance to mould his own team. Is that not at least fair? This modern attitude to go for the jugular after no time at all leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. The pecking order of football changes very, very quickly these days and its a crystal clear reality that we are no longer a top four side. Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and now even Spurs can out muscle us financially so why do we deserve to finish above any of them? Some reality is needed and fast! RED77

I for one would love Rafa back, when he was backed with the funds in the transfer market he bought class players. . . alonso, torres, mascherno, reina. . Yes he also had bad buys but so does every manager, even SPN has made bad buys in the market, veron & berbatov come to mind. .

I seem to remember Rafa being interviewed by the spirit of shankley group, and asked about his transfers. Pennant - was his 3rd choice he had to settle for he really wanted dani alves. .even as far as his last season. . he wanted michael turner for 4million, but had to settle for the greek for 1.5 million cos the owners wouldn't back him. . this happened with a few players, and if he was backed properly we wouldn't be sat her now mid table. .

he was the best manager we had for years, and could be as successful as shankly if allowed. .

Rafa - please come home, you belong at our club. i would love you back at this club with money to back you, you wouldn't be the fat spanish waiter for long. . didn't see the mancs singing it when you humilated them 4-1 in there own back yard. .

Harry5:) {ed's note - and a bah humbug to you too mate!}

Hmm, sounds like Harry5 needs a holiday. Meanwhile to the bloke who mentioned Neymar, I'd say his Santos teammate Ganso is a better fit for LFC. So let's have him and Alexis Sanchez to go with Honda and Llorente. That should take care of things going forward. Add them to Gerrard, Torres, Lucas et al and we wouldn't need much of a defence.

Alternatively, we could get real and talk sense about how Woy is going to turn things around and get the best out of Konchesky and Poulsen and secure us that last Europa League berth before the end of the season. If that sounds like sense to anyone I'd hate to know what they consider nonsense.

When Shankly first showed up all those years ago, did he keep it real and talk sense or did he set an impossible goal and then go about achieving it?

Anyone crying out for Rafa's return to LFC needs a brain transplant! Wake up, this guy left our club in total and utter disarray! The senior players hated him. The academy was a joke. Just to jump on the issue over having a manager with experience or someone untried.
We had 'rafa' - well respected in europe and good record in Spain. Turns out he would rather spend more time arguing with the board or other managers than sorting his own failing signings.

Now Roy- I can't say he's a nice chap because I don't know him. What I can say is that he seems to be well respected on the football arena and has an ok record home and abroad. Turns out he's also rubbish at Liverpool. My point being that as the ed has already said, previous success doesn't mean you will be any good, I would not mind a young "wild card" taking the rains and let's see what they can do. I don't know what the board will want but my feeling is they will take the chance.
Looking forward to the activities in the transfer window in jan.

In reply to all the fans blaming rafa for alonso leaving.
alonso asked to leave and wouldn't commit the clup.
yes it was after rafa looked to sell him. if you read what rafas said about it his plan was to play barry on the left with stevie in the centre .so barry wouldn't have replaced alonso.but hey don't let facts get in the way of something to hit rafa with.

I want RAFA back. You see I have all these RAFA flags & Tees* ts etc etc and I don't want them to go to waste. I know deep down that he'll destroy the club further just as he did when he was here but I don't really care because I'm one of those thick Rafa heads. The club doesn't really matter to me at all, I just hated Christian Purslow so much and loved the concept of us having a Spanish manager "RAFA" so much that I'll turn a blind eye to all his failings. I love Rafa, I really do, god he was a class act.

Hmmm looked like my 'I want Rafa back' campaign got off to a frenzied start.

Sorry to all the Ed's. I started something and then peed off to work for 12 hours!

This is just my opinion and i respect all who has a different opinion. It doesn't mean i'm right or wrong and likewise with all.

Rafa made a lot of mistakes i can readily admit but in my viewpoint he did more good than bad.

Roy is proving that Rafa is a better manager than some had given him credit for.

He was on the verge of toppling manure, that there is no doubt. This why everyone non-LFC related slagged him. He was a danger to them as boss of Liverpool.

But i agree with the Ed, he used the fans as a stick to beat the owners with and we were thrown into the limelight for all the LFC hating media to feed upon us. They didn't need a second invitation.

He didn't replace Keane in Jan 09, the treatment of Alonso shocking only because the replacement was fat Garry Barry. Alonso for two years previous was poor.

And the football was poor towards the end of this time. Oh and some shoddy signings, sprinkled inbetween great signings

Other than that. . .Bring Rafa back. . . .I've given the reasons why he was the best we've had since 1990.

A famous manager does not mean success as the ed rightly points out. Take Barcelona for eg, their last 2 managers Rijkaard and Guardiola were untried as managers and look at the success they have brought. Every manager has to start somewhere to become famous. If you look at our past Shankly, Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish, none of these were famous managers before they were LFC managers, but they have brought us the most success.

Because football is not the same now like it was then. Those mangers apart from shanks were all in house, by this i mean they understood how liverpool worked, what the fans wanted etc before they became the manager, they all had something to do with the club before hand. Just like pep and rijkard at barca. As i said I on my last post before this, i just want a manager that has experience of winning trophies not just experience. I'm entitled to my opinion artnt I? I mean tgeres ppl on this site asking for rafa back!

He went public because he knew he had the support of most Liverpool fans and they would back everything he said. A fan revolt against the owners for not supporting him financially (yes they did have to go though) and when the team played badly or players were left out, Benitez had made it so someone else could get the blame. He wanted too much power and in the end it cost both him and our club. In 5 years he won 1xFA cup and 1xChampions league, not much for such a great club.

Houllier 1xFA cup, 1xUEFA cup, 2xLeague cup
Evans 1xFA cup, 1xLeague cup
Souness 1xFA cup
Dalglish 3xChampions, 2xFA cup, 1xLeague cup

So you see, our last successful manager was King Kenny. Runner up spots count for nothing, it's all about silverware.

I loved Rafa the manager, and Rafa the man.He got Liverpool;the fans;the city, he got it all.
He was honest, outspoken and firm.He had the heart of a lion, pandering to no one;giving no monkeys whatsover about being liked by Sky or anyone alike. He knew that his only duty was to Liverpool fans. .not Murdoch, Gray, whisky nose.

He was fought for, and with, the fans.Owing to his "public moaning", the fans the fans became aware of the rot within the management/ board. You can malign Rafa all you like, saying he was a "politician" blah, blah, blah. But he told us what was "really" going behind the scenes;those who understood stood up, mobilised and took action. All the while others were happy to bury their heads in the sand. .mouthing off about how a left back was the main problem.

Rafa did what he had to do, by fair means or foul.Like when he exposed Parry for what he was:an incredibly inept bovine.I shudder to think where worse would things could've been had Rafa kept it "hush-hush";"shut up and just do your job".
Funnily enough, the Man U fans are blasting Ferguson for not doing what Rafa did:take severe stand against the owners and really rock the boat.Hell some have even suggested he might be in cahoots with the Glazers.

The man had a character, brains and courage.I loved him when he was here, and I still love him even now that he's elswhere.

In terms of was he a success here, I'll say that he did well, but could and "should" have done a lot better.Without going into much detail, Rafa didn't compete on an even playing field with Mourihno, Fergusom, that's fair to say. However, he himself didn't do himself any favours with some of his dealings, man-management, tactics etc.A prime example would be the Alonso saga, and the 2008/ 09 season. We should have consummately won the league that year, but for bad decisions/ approachs in some games. So yeah, the man had his flaws, but, for me, the good far outweigh the bad (pity the bad's the only thing the editors on here saw in the man).To be fair, a rating of 7/ 10 is apt.

When he came we were a mess.He worked. We became a force in Europe.A good run in the CL became a formality, when before qualification per se was the bare minimum. He made us dream again, believe.
He revamped the academy, brought the brilliant Borell, and the highly Sterling, Shelvey, Suso, Ayala, Wilson, Pacheco. .players who, should they realise their potential, will be the next generation of our supersters. And he also let the Hammils go, I know. But show me any manager that doesn't make those mistakes.
Folks, unlike the Mourihnos, Klinsmanns, Rafa's a manager who looks to the future;a man of vision, a project. That's what he had for our club. But due to inept, idiotic backstabbing piles liars, he was pushing against the wind.

But with all that said, I don't wish that Rafa returns;that ship has already said.Admittedly, I did want him to be given a chance to right last season's wrong. He, I felt, deserved it.
His quality was self-evident.Despite all the lies, broken promise, backstabbing and undermining he was subjected to by H+G, he stayed on.He was loyal, and the least he deserved was the same from us.

But he went. He's gone.Let's move on with our lives.Get in new manager, new players, and really kickstart our new era.
Senor Rafa had his time, but sadly, it came to an end.So please, folks, let's cease dwelling on the past and look forward to our future. .a future I hope won't include Rafa, but very much his legacy.
Let's get a new man in, and back him, Tom and John, and the players to the hilt. It's gonna be a long journey, lads, but we'll get there.
Right now we're nowhere. Our future really will begin when Roy departs, and a new man comes in.

Lastly, let me ask.Did those who're saying Fernando "should be sold cause he's not been himself" lambast Rafa for trying to move on Alonso?Cause if you did, consider yourselves hypocrites.
Torres' stuck by this team in difficult times;he's always been loyal.
And the past summer, when rumours were rife that he'd be leaving, many were quick to question his loyalty. .calling him a traitor for "wanting to jump ship at a time when the club needs him the most".Fernando stayed. Some six months into the season, he isn't his usual clinical self (largely due to the horribly mediocre Hodgson), and some fans are saying "sell him". .this at the time when Torres needs every support he can get.

So if I get this right, it's not okay for a player to want to leave the club when its in dire straits;but it's acceptable for a club to drop a player just like that, as though he were a hot potato.Pathetic.

By the way, ed, who do ya reckon will be we new CEO.Some folk have mentioned Dein.Well, as immense as he is, I think he's got great an affection for the gooners, so am not sure there.Would be nice to get a fan one.As for Comolli, the only good thing I'm happy about as regards his appointment is that we won't likely be seeing crap like Konchesky. But going forward, I'm not sure. What he did at Spurs I wouldn't deem exceptional in any way, but was not bad either.

Silver Song {ed's note - why is it that people think we only see the bad? We are pointing out that his weaknesses were all in his management of the TEAM, his main job. That is why he is best off remembered as an ex-manager and people need to move on and look to the future.}

Have not weighed in for some time on anything on the site, no real rumours kicking about. Couple of things:
1. No-one knows at all who we are going to sign in Jan (if anyone) - for his many faults RH is being very professional in front of camera (unlike Rafa) and DC and the new owners are doing any business the way most private businesses do - behind closed doors and away from public srutiny
2. Roy is still not a right fit for Liverpool - HOWEVER - as Ed, Blair Mayne and Mushroom have stated the last thing Liverpool need now is a big name manager, we need someone who has desire, focus and hard work at their core something Jose et al do not have. Our history proves that - big name (Mr Souness) is not LFC, Shanks came from the lower leagues, the next 3 managers came from within, we need to look around and see who with the right board etc. . could re-develop LFC
3. We need to have a winning approach to games not once this season has the team really showed that - Stevie G did on his own against Manure but that was personal

Benitez never was and never will be ONE OF US - he's a moaning mercenary who always blames someone else for his failings.

At the end of the day, Benitez made us proud of our team. With Benitez, we beat most of the best teams in Europe, including a 4-0 against Madrid, an away victory against Barcelona, and a record 8-0 against Besiktas.

I've said it once and I'll it again, if Benitez had the financial backing that Mourinho had, we would be so dominant it would be unreal.

Oh well our beloved Roy is yet again spouting BS this morning. Claiming it will take more than months to get back into the CL. This guy is the most negative manager I have ever known, how can you motivate a team with such a downer on life. NESV need to act fast to get rid of this moron who is going to completely destroy us.

{ed's note - rubbish, he constantly went public and carried out arguments with everyone at the club in the public eye. There was no need to do it in the public eye, he did the same at Valencia with his crap about light shades. He was one of the symptoms of the club's problems and he needed to be removed, as does Roy.}

I am afraid that all the Eds of this site are

1. suffering from I-HATE-RAFA syndrome. . . .
2. demean his achievements
3. take away any credit which he deserves
4, acting like Movie Critics when clearly a lot of people(fans) love him at Anfield

I strongly agree that Rafa should not be brought back. . . but we should not dissect his contribution by looking at he did at Valencia or Inter. . .He did give us a reason to smile unlike Roy now. . . .

The sad part is all the Eds are behaving like Sir Alex Fergusson intent on discreting any contribution to the club like he did with Beckham, Yorke, Keane and others. . . . .he only remembers Ronaldo and Cantona. . .

I hope you are objective and not slag Rafa at every given opportunity. . . . .It does not put all the Eds in a good light. . . {ed's note - oh don't be such a child! The guy questioned a point I made about Rafa dragging the club's dirty washing out in public and I was answering it. Only a child thinks that you have to think everything about a person is wonderful or you must hate them. Some of us are capable of looking at a man objectively and see their good AND their bad points. I like Rafa a lot as a man, he did a lot for charities that are close to my heart and for the city that I will always think of as home. BUT that doesn't mean I can't see his weaknesses and reasons why he should never be given the job of Liverpool manager as well.}

Roy love to follow 4-4-2 formation , easy to digest , won't work with liverpool since we don't have quality wingers.:). So even torres seem to be helpless with poor ball distribution. Friends reply how this would look like
3-4-3 , i prefer this since we have more quality in defense. .
Gk - reina
rcb -Skrtel
cb-kyriyagokos/ carra
lcb- konchesky/ agger
rwb-glen johnson
lwb-fabio aurileo
cms- gerrard, raul
cam/ wf- (cole, babel, ngog, kuyt, maxi) as u wish
st- torres team looks strong defensively & both johnson and fabio can have decent through wings and we 3 strike force upfront rather than. . Torres alone steive & raul are more than enough to provide creativity. . Decent balance is kept as well , if roy still need defence he could prefer lucas instead of raul . Lfc fans pls reply:)

Also we most definately need a striker not just to back up torres but to take torres out of the team i think it is time for him to leave and we buy players from the money he is sold for he obviously doesn't want to be at the club and is acting like a spoilt child with no heart or passion to win games! thanks ed!

Fact of the matter is that Hodgson is our manager until the end of the season AT MOST! He is in fact a caretaker manager, NESV will not have to pay any compensation should they decide to sack him, a clause written into his contract (It stated should new owners take over then the manager will receive no compensation should they decide to install their own man). Should Rafa get the sack then he will become our sort-of new manager. For me, good news. We played well under him, got some results and with him having a sizeable budget we can finally get some decent players in (Let's not forget it was H+G fault we sold Alonso because he was the only player worth £18m at Liverpool, Barry, Villa and Mata would probably be here now).

Did you not see the interview with Ayre, Werner and Henry on LFC TV, as well as the numerous other interviews they have given since they purchased the club? They clearly stated that they are in for the long term several times, and I don't think they would blatently lie to fans, they've seen what can happen if fans are lied to. {ed's note - what is with every Rafa lover claiming that you have to want Roy if you don't want Rafa? They are two separate issues, so stop using Roy to make Rafa look better, neither are up to the task.}

I don't think anyone needs to hold Roy up to make Rafa look better, in fact I think you can hold up almost every manager since Paisley to do that. What really gets my arse is the so-called fans on here who obviously have not put a shift in since Dalglish, spouting the skum media narrative without seeing what the big picture was, and they must all bear part of the responsibility for where we are with Roy now. And what happens when Henry bows to pressure from fans, and pulls the trigger on Roy, we get a new guy in, and he fails. should we sack him too? Are we Spurs, slagging off our old managers like a bunch of old women? For all Rafa's faults, and of course he had some, we all do, you cannot argue with where he took us. Some of the fans on here (quite a few it seems) do not remember what it was like when we were the best team in Europe year in year out. They have no idea what it is like to win metronomically week in week out almost to the point of boredom! They must measure success in FA cup, league cup and Europa league. The older hands remember when we were just h*cking awesome, and they were reminded year in year out how far we had fallen from that. And when Benitez pulls the club out of the mediocrity, within touching distance of the glory of the past, we appreciate what that is, they do not.
So next time someone refers to Benitez as a waiter they should consider this: We will never be forgiven for being great, not by the skum, not by the sky media, we will never be forgiven for being the team the skum and everybody else wanted to be, so if they want to buy into that, then go ahead, do the skum media's work for them, but do not call yourself a fan. That involves a state of mind, not just a love of football.
