can any liverpool fan tell me who is the leading scorer in the prem , we all know the answer so why do you keep on going on about this striker and that striker , if it aint broke dont fix it , maybe you want a big name in and he could upset suarez and not score himself , so what will you all say then , we need an attacking midfielder like silva , to but balls through for suarez , a bit like enrique did for suarez's 2nd goal , it was an easy finish for him, so all we need is some one to supply suarez at the moment , then maybe our defence will get better and stop conceding goals , because i dont mind if the team won 1 -0 all the time

And if Luis gets injured we have...........oh hang on!

cozinoz

And if Suarez gets injured or banned.......?
you need another (quality) striker....Luis
was supposed to be playing with Torres so one assume he is not averse to another person scoring goals in the team

Puzzled

Suarez doesn't just score goals he creates space and goal scoring opportunities for others. We need a player or players to capitilise on that. Also Suarez can't play and score in every game.

I don't understand how so many fans wanted Dempsey but don't want Sturridge?

Dempsey has had little impact at Spuds.

Sturridge fits our system perfectly. (front 3) leave it to BR to iron out any attitude issues with him. Trust in BR. He knows what he's doing. Sturridge will be passing and tracking runners in no time.

I just hope that if he comes in, it is for a reasonable price, not 15 million.

Levans.

Please no more underrated british player. 15 m too much for selfish player.

Dempsey was playing the second striker role at Fulham, at Tottenham he's played for part of games as a midfielder.

It's not the same role, so don't expect a player to do the same job and get the same chances, etc.

Dempesy at Liverpool off Suarez would score, how could he not when Suarez does offer chances and assists to his team mates by drawing defenders out.

21 Nov 2012 01:48:30
Dempsey might have a different role at Spurs then the one he had at Fulham, but that doesn't stop him from rippin it up and having rave review's week after week.
He isn't and he doesn't., believe me the Spurs fans would be on this page telling is how he and Sig chose a club on the up, blah blah blah. They really would cause I know for sure that if they had been doing the business for us, one or two of us would've surely found their way onto their banter page to let them know the top players their poxy club missed out on.
Things happen for a reason and who knows what would've happened to the young players who broke into first team more or less because our squad was also thin in those areas?

Instead of spending 15 million on Sturridge why not make cheeky bid for Shane Long? Surely Steve Clarke doesnt mind helping us out!

Ahh, the infamous cheeky bid.

"We'll give you 6mil for Shane Long..."

"Done..."

"Just kidding - it was a cheeky bid"

'Surely Steve Clarke doesnt mind helping us out'
Im sure he'd love to give up Top 4 and his manager job to sell his best striker to his ex-club

No Henry only sacked clarke last summer I am sure he'll be in the mood to help us out!

All this talk of Torres returning to LFC, In my view i think LFC and Torres need each other right now. I know lots of fans hate the way he left but in my view he has been the best Number 9 for last 10 yrs at LFC....
Now with luis firing and Torres joining it could be magic!. Fans please remember that MR OWEN left with giving Rafa a chance and where did he end up M.UTD....
In my view walcott, huntalaar and sturridge are not LFC class MR TORRES IS.....

Stop looking to the past will you , its time to move on ,

Yet another Torres groupie refusing to put a name to the post. Understandable though, its pretty embarrassing to keep publicly swooning over the the guy.

cozinoz

...leaving aside how he left... and comments made afterwards... Why not try to remember how he was in the 18 months BEFORE he left
The Torres period is over- please move on

Sturridge has raw talent but a bad attitude. If he can do for us what he did for Bolton theh he will be worth it.

20 Nov 2012 23:11:11
Hi Macca. Personally i think huntelaar would be good along side suarez who is in superb form. however, like you Macca, he wouldny be my first choice. My first choice of striker, given his current contract would be llorente. i think he is a brilliamt forward and natural finisher. I think we will sign two attacking players in january, one of which i do believe will be walcott. although some dont rate him, i think he could be brilliant over the years. If the other one is huntelaar then excellent. but like i said, llorente would be my first choice! Eds, Macca, whats ur opinion?
Rab JFT96

Llorente is an unrealistic target. He will want to play for a champions league club at his age (27) he hasn't played at a prestigious club yet as oppose to hunterlaar who has. Hunterlaar is a lot more realistic, but I think our real target might be either Wilfred bony or Daniel sturridge

20 Nov 2012 22:57:41
Ok, so Torres hasnt cut it at Chelsea....
Well I remember Rushie having a poor time abroad before he came back and scored for fun.....
Everyone has an opinion on him and i appreciate the circumstances of him leaving but really...people make mistakes and to be fair if you gave me the chance of him back or Sturridge or Walcott i know who id take because a Torres at 75% of what he was for us before would be an asset.....
So many Torres posts i know but i genuinely like the lad and i think hes been badly advised somewhere...Bring him home!

Hey, what's it like living in 2010?

Bring hi, home, i assume you live in spain then.

20 Nov 2012 23:50:36
Look, he could've left with dignity and kept shtum about us when he left, he didn't. Regardless of how aggrieved he felt with things that went on behind the scenes, he had more then one dig at Liverpool in the media which he must've known that it would've been like a knife through the heart to all us fans who were seriously hurting from him leaving. I know it hurt me more then any other player that's left Liverpool before him or since he's left come to that. I'm sure many people felt the same and remember how much he hurt us with those digs he had at us. No other player has ever been given the leeway he was in the months leading upto his departure for lack of form, effort and attitude. I know I made up exscuse after exscuse to not just my mates but to myself. Na, as seen by his goal celebration or lack of it at the weekend his team ethos is as rubbishty as ever. He doesn't strike me as someone who''ll shoulder any blame for what he did so let bygone's be bygone's. We all need to look to the future not the past, that's my opinion anyhow. And before anyone says what about Ian Rush and his second coming, one word I'll use to say why he was freely accepted, 'attitude'
JohnBoy

If you're looking at previous players re-joining, Id take Rushie over Torres thanks

cozinoz

Torres allegedly said bad things but was he pushed out ed002 says he did not have to sign for chelsea but who knows , if he came back he would be our player so i would support him but if he does not the manager and owners should be looking at stars like him to sign and not mr average player who you hope will be good at some time in the future because the future is always the future we need to get in there now. come on you reds ynwa

Ah but is he available?

Mancs lost in Turkey but saying they played the youngsters but the average age was higher than what we've been fielding in the Premier. Watch the Media believe all manc youngsters nonsense.
kidmillions

No offence but I'd the media offends you that much, don't read the papers or watch any media type programmes. Simplest thing to do.
JohnBoy

They didn't play that many youngsters, other than those on the bench i think there was only 3 on the pitch who wouldn't normally start in the EPL.

20 Nov 2012 22:31:49
I agree with most that I don't really see Sturridge fitting in with our system. However he is a decent young, albeit very greedy, player. He's quick, can beat a man and shoot. Now if he learnt to pass and track back he could be a very good player, maybe never world class but definitely up there. I also see Rodgers as the perfect man to help educate him. I would love to hear what other Reds think of this

Fully agree. Sturridge wouldnt be my first choice to buy but there's no doubting his pace and finishing ability plus he has his best years ahead. BR seems like a good man-manager who could turn Sturridge's attitude around. Just think how good Sturridge could be if he WASN'T selfish and tunnel-visioned. I think Brendon Rogers is one of the few managers who could sort him out.

cozinoz

20 Nov 2012 23:26:21
Mate buying sturridge will cause big problems in our team coz he won't change and has got big attitude problem. When our youngster don't pass or do mistakes in game Suarez pokes at them despite being 17 what will happen with sturridge only God knows and don't forget thise kind of signings lead to KK sacking at the same time January signing is ver,very crucial to liverpool coz if thise time we get wrong then owners won't pay for another striker as Borini hasn't prove to be success. Serious questions will be asked to Rodgers by fans owners media etc etc if thise time we buy another inefective striker. Need to be very careful mate.

20 Nov 2012 22:27:53
Daniel Sturidge? BR it was these kind of targets that got Kenny sacked.

We won't be paying 35m. So relax.

BR may not spend 35M but the result will be the same only Henry won't be able to sack BR as he won't be able to afford it

20 Nov 2012 22:23:08
Just a thought and would love yer view on this , but has anyone noticed liverpools next league games are so called winnable games ,with this in mind do you think if we are lucky enough to win them all lets say most of them ,we will be knocking on the door of 4th place and the holy grail of champs league ,do you think this will change our transfer plan for example not the £15 mil Sturridge but maybe a £30 mil rated forward

If we finish there or close to fourth then the owners might be willing to free up funds for that extra push but only in the summer mate, not january because alot could go wrong and then you'll have people moaning yet again that money has been wasted.

20 Nov 2012 22:20:09
I'm sick of people saying that everyone linked with Liverpool aren't good enough as stated above in the comments. I'm not personally sold on Sturridge but Walcott and Huntalaar would both improve the squad quite a lot. Liverpool can't buy a world class player with every transfer. The idea at Liverpool now is to grow world class players in the academy not have to buy them. Some football fans are just completely irrational.

20 Nov 2012 22:12:24

Its pathetic how some people keep banging on about torres he had one and a bit good seasons with us and after that he was sh#t and still is sh#t, i would much rather have someone who WANTS to be at liverpool in the team rather than a bloke who when the going gets tough, quits

20 Nov 2012 21:30:11
Don't understand why people want Torres back, he's been shocking in the past 3 years, he's 28, would cost a fair bit, must be on a huge salary and he burnt his bridges with Liverpool.

He is not the answer to our goal scoring problems, he's scored about the same amount of goals in his Chelsea career than Suarez has this season.

Move on, the Torres of old is long gone.

Stanz

Form is temporary class is permanent

What happened to Michael Owen then? I he still just out of form?

Ashy

Well Torrres has proved he has no class

20 Nov 2012 21:31:56
Eds, How much would Sturridge cost to buy, many rumours quote around 15 million but surely we could find someone better for less money than Sturridge if we are genuinely interested. Great site, thanks. {Ed002's Note - All I can say is that there is interest in him.}

Watching Chelsea game and must say glad we didn't get Gary Cahill he is shocking .not even in the same class as Martin an Danny

Yeah just been thinking this myself I no fans like to see signings and then there's uproar when we don't sign them but there's no point signing a player for the sake of it I remember alot of fans wanting Scott dann aswell who's been awful. But yeah Cahill has been dreadful this season.

I really like this post! A signing for the sake of a signing. That has been the problem. Wait til Jan 7th 2013 & no signing yet. Some fans go apes**t because Citeh or Chelski have already spent 50 kazillion in the window. We need another striker in case Luis gets a card or an injury or a ban. We also need to offload Stewie & cole and replace them with a (1) wide player that can play up front or wide and give us an option. That's all we need IMO. 140K in wages swapped for whatever it takes within reason to pay the 2 new guys. Buy reasonably or go all in on a stud for the system. We'll have Borini back in Jan/Feb and I think he will grow into a great role player within the team/squad. He's only 21. I was thinking or maybe even posted that if Borini/Saurez get 25 goals combined for the season it would be good. Luis may get that on his own. I just hope we can reign in the reckless spending that went on on crazy salaries for the last 4-5 years on bit part players. We have to live within our means and make smarter decisions on players and salaries with an eye on the next 5 years or so. We have so many good prospects on the verge and I'd like us to buy smart with a piece or two that will bring us forward not only short term but help us long term either in their play or sell on value.

20 Nov 2012 21:05:45
We are looking for an attacker but our priority is an attacking midfielder.This i think will be the big signing in January.I think we,ll get Sturridge plus Jeffren on loan but the big buy maybe Eriksen(could help Agger and Suarez are at anfield)

Maybe wishful thinking, but Gerrard isnt playing that role anymore and we need a link player for suarez

I'd love eriksen and Walcott. That would leave us with nothing to do in the summer in my opinion. Let downing and cole go and promote a couple of kids too.

You're right.. It's not like we have 10 other CAM's fighting for that spot... Oh wait.

The only attacking midfielder we have is suso.

Striker is number one in January, attacking mid is not on the cards imo. at the moment we are playing with 2 holding and 1 attacking, but when lucas gets back we will play more with 1 holding and 2 more advanced players like we did against wigan.
we have gerrard,allen,suso,sahin,shelvey and henderson all fighting for 2 places. so we are in need of a holding midfielder because after lucas there is no one but allen trying his best in a position he is not born to play,

lfc need to bring in a big player if they got any chance of moving forward. buying half decent players is not going to get the club back up there. we dont need to buy 3 or 4 players just 1 or 2 top players to give us the push we need.

In the jan window and no champs league to offer!
I would love to hear your opinion on who we should buy!messi, ronaldo or even a cheeky bid for naymar!

Hate this idea of a BIG player, what is that? No guarantees that a player will be a success no matter who they are

Andy Carroll was pretty BIG

Big name player! are you talking about up and coming or established players for 50 or so million.

big up and coming players like carroll or henderson yes we paid over the value but they were prob the best young players in the league available, say what you want but carroll was a monster for newcastle every thing he done in a toon shirt seemed to work, and henderson was on and off playing some great stuff in the middle for sunderland got an england call up because of it.

then you have the established players like torres, shevchenko, veron, robinho all big money signings but failed or failing at there english club.

handing out 50million on a player does not mean he will bag more goals than say borrini

who were carvani or lavezzi before napoli
who was falco before porto.

just because we have never heard of someone does not mean they wont be our carvani,lavezzi or falco.

even borrini could turn out to be our guy, only with time and patience will we get to the top.

kumber

Yeah lets buy no name players they are always better!

20 Nov 2012 20:39:57
can we all stop talking about torres please?
lets post on the future.

Agree about looking to the future , but never slate the past .because that is what made us the club we are and everyone who played there part in our great history deserves respect.

Heard we are preparing a 25mil bid for Soldado? You heard this eds? I would be happy :D {Ed002's Note - Some one is having you on, sorry.}

20 Nov 2012 20:19:49
Ed002 - as a Chelsea fan and having contacts who know about Chelsea what is your opinion on Torres, is it that way Chelsea play that's not getting the best out of him or has he just lost it! Plus do you expect him to leave in January and if so where do you think he will end up!?

NS {Ed002's Note - He is not the player he was three years ago. There are no offers for Torres on the table right now.}

20 Nov 2012 20:14:26
I just dont get ithe interest with Sturridge. To me he would be well short of the mark of what we need. He looks slow and even disinterested at times

20 Nov 2012 20:09:55
Expect Spurs to come in a with a last-minute offer for Sturridge and gazump us.

With a bit of luck, they will!

I don't regard him as good enough for us. He's just another average English player. Aren't we still trying to get rid of some of those?

redmersey

Hope so

Puzzled

Hey generally do that whenever they hear we have interest in a player

Jak

They saved us from sugardson and Dempsey so hopefully they could save us from Sturbridge too.

I'd even pay tottenham to take him in order to save liverpool.

20 Nov 2012 19:45:45
Doesn't surprise me to hear all the talk in relation to the return of Torres. I was told a while back (from a good source) that he had 2 seasons left at the very top level - Bones, they said....

JJ42

When will he return to the top level ..........
the Torres we knew no longer exists .

20 Nov 2012 19:22:12
I said in the summer that I though either Dempsey or Huntelaar would be perfect for us and I still believe that. Dempsey as we all know is no chance but getting Huntelaar for a price under 10million for me is a steal. He is a proven goal scorer who has played for some of the biggest teams around Europe. And I know 29 is a little more seasoned but please most good strikers play into their early 30's. For me a 2-3 year deal for him is exactly what we need. With Lucas back and Hendo playing better our central midfield has immense depth. Our defense is very solid and our youth back there is very talented. One striker like him and this team which is very pleasing on the eye this year, will give a good run for top four down the stretch.
Would love to hear everyones thoughts

Much as I dislike answering a no-name post
I agree with every word

Puzzled

20 Nov 2012 22:49:04
Agreed for me Huntelaar (at his present contract state and fee wise) is perfect business for us. Think he would be the player to finally be in the right place at the right time to put our chances away.

He's played alongside Suarez before and they had a successful partnership so hopefully this will be a factor in hintelaars thinking. Macca confirmed the other night he was a definite target, so fingers crossed he will sign in January.

20 Nov 2012 18:54:27
Ed fellow reds, I know this is LFC page ,but if the rumours about Torres going back to Spain are true ,I will feel a bit upset really .i know he left us on unsteady ground but he was the best finisher in the prem and its been a great loss to the league that he can't settle at Chelsea .another great player going and they don't come around very often .but we have king Luis now so chin up .

Once he took off the red shirt I ceased to care.....
Paisley's genius

We got the best of him, And I'm glad he absolutely sucks now. We can let Ed002 and those Chelsea folks deal with him now

Wont have 'king luis' for long, soon be in the blue of city

Got more chance of blue of toffee's .never happen mate if and when he leaves us it will be for barca or real possibly psg .

Torres was never given a chance at Chelsea, Drogba sucked the confidence out of him and he never settled after that. The love he had from the Liverpool fans disappeared and his desire soon left him.
I am sure that if he does go to a team that he feels wants him he will regain his form and start scoring again, however its maybe a too big a gamble for many teams to take.

Evered

Evered...You forgot that he was pretty poor for us the last season he played, i don't understand why people cannot just accept that he's a shadow of the player he once was.

MR EM

He had been having a bad season but remember so was our whole team, trying to play hodgson football. i thought in the last few games under kenny he looked a whole lot sharper and i think he got at least 2 goals in his last 2 games for us.

that's why i was so surprised he even wanted to go, we were playing well again and just got suarez in, madness, and i'm sure he kicks himself now.

However, he just doesn't seem to look like he can ever be the devestating player he was for us, and whilst getting his form back is unlikely, him coming back to Liverpool is DEFINITELY not going to happen. Let go. rightly or wrongly half our fanbase now hates him and that is enough to stop the transfer ever being successful.

personally i think we are holding a bit too much of a grudge though. the lad came here, banged in a load of goals, and then left us with bags of money when he was in decline. Can't ask for much more from a player than that

x

20 Nov 2012 18:49:47
Ed002 I dont think anybody ever asked you you're personal opinion on Sturridge. Do you think he has the talent and quality to play for Liverpool or Chelsea? {Ed002's Note - He is a decent player and his ratio of goals to playing time is of course very good.}

Thats his problem, he may well score plenty of goals for Liverpool but others like Suarez would see the goal tally significantly reduced because the guy will shoot at half chances and take snatched shots rather than look for possible key passes and assists. Liverpool would find themselves in the position of finally having two strikers but the goals scored column won't improve.

Merc

Suarez was the same last season.

I don't really rate sturridge as a player I hope he never wears our famous shirt, regarding who scores the goals that should not matter much as long as Liverpool win games.

Liverpool won't win any more games by scoring roughly the same amount of goals as they with Suarez slotting them in. Sturridge will hinder rather than complement Suarez.

I would take Walcott before Sturridge, though to be honest I don't really want either

Puzzled

His goal to game ratio isn't that great, in 130 games he's scored 38 goals, Suarez can manage that in half those games so it's obvious to me anyway that he isn't worth even half of what we paid for Suarez and deduct some more due to the fact he's the greediest player in the EPL. 5-8 mill not 15, if we pay 15 we'd have been robbed just like we was with Carroll & Downing.

20 Nov 2012 18:40:42
eds, so from you've all said and what Macca's said we have confirmed interest in Huntelaar, Jeffren, Walcott and Sturridge.

Do you know who else we're watching and how many of these we'll be looking to bring in? {Ed002's Note - I would expext a couple of players to arrive in January and there is certainly interest in the likes of Huntelaar, Sturridge and Jeffren.}

None are good enough. Well maybe huntellar.

Totally disagree with last post. I'd happily take all three of the players mentioned, but not 15 million for Sturridge far too high.

Jonesred

Walcott & Huntelaar would be my choice
they both have 6 months on contract come Jan and should they choose not to sign a new contract will most likely be sold at around £8m each. Both score goals, Huntelaar is our Van Nisterlooy type of player that scores the ugly goals that we badly miss and Walcott has skill and pace that scares opposition defenses.

BigD

I'd be happy with them three.ed02 would you think Walcott and 2 of them three could happen even cheers.MATTYLFC {Ed002's Note - No Matty.}

20 Nov 2012 18:35:22
here we go again ,were been linked with another average english player (sturridge)& more than likely pay way over the odds for him ,hope not ,when will we learn that every english player is priced way to high,heres an example,the last world cup ozil for germany scored goals &plenty of assits& was one of the players of the tornament,real madrid payed 13mil for him,,then there was milner for england played only acouple of games,didnt score or create any but because he was english man city payed 25mil for him ,&then sure look wat we did last season under kenny we payed 75mil on 3players who come end of jan none of them will be at the club,& we,ll be be lucky if we get 30mil back on them 3players,just need to be more effective with the buys this window,im hoping for astriker like dzeko not sturridge IRISH RED

Sturridge better than what u have, not counting suarez, who will be gone in january anyway. one man team comes to mind, and dont bring up gerrard, he's past it

20 Nov 2012 22:06:36
Where's Suarez goin then??

20 Nov 2012 18:31:04
I don't get all this clamor to get Torres back. We need to look forward and not back. He has had his day. He is not a shadow of the striker he was before he left. If it wasn't for his reputation he wouldn't be valued at 20 million. Personally think it'd be a waste of money.

The way we are playing under Brendan we need the 3 front men to be able to interchange with each other, so 3 strikers/wingers that can all move about and pop up in different positions. That's why I can see both Sturridge and Walcott are being spoken about and can see Sterling being moulded into the same sort of forward. Neither Sturridge or Walcott will come if they are being asked to play wingers all the time. Rigid front man is not the way I think we are playing. I know Suarez is the main striker but he is all over the front line. Fluidity is the key and to keep the defenders occupied and on the edge.

Gazza

Rather have Torres than Sturridge=head down,greedy and arrogant by all accounts

Head down,greedy and arrogant...versus sulky, ineffectual and past it.

20 Nov 2012 18:29:05
Anyone else noticed how good Suso's delivery is from corner kicks?

Yeap let him take them

Yep! Absolutely boss! An area we have been lacking for a long time....early days for suso & don't want to put to much expectation on the lad,but what a brain & technique,feet like iniesta & passes like alonso....
Paisley's genius

Yeah that's why on saturday after his first 2 didn't beat the first man , Gerrard took them from the right !

No, I notice they always hit the first defender's feet.

He is young give him time to grow eh?

I honestly think with the right development this guy could be unplayable in the future.

With January looming we have been linked with a lot of strikers since the end of August. This January window is to me a different window than usual.

In January there is a lot of quality forward players who can be signed for nominal fees due to their contracts running down or other reasons.

Out of the below who would be the two signings you'd prefer?

1. T. Walcott. Nearing last sox onths of deal, and at 24 would represent value for money at 8-10 million.

2. D. Sturridge. Same as Walcott in contract situation and age. Fee for Sturridge would also e similar to Walcott's.

3. K. J. Huntelaar. Contract situation the same as above but older at 29. For me a better finisher than the two above. I would love him to sign for us.

4. F. Llorente. Another player nearing the end of his deal. Would be a big ask to get him, but woud be a major coup of we did, especially for a low fee due to contract length.

5. G. Rossi. Has had two major ligament injuries in last few seasons but could still be a quality player if he recovers. Rossi could be available ate reduced fee. May be worth a punt depending on his fee.

6. Jeffren. The former Barca winger could be sold in January by his club. A loan may also be a possibility. From what I remember of him he is quick and has skill, and would be a useful addition. Depending on the fee another who may be worth a punt.

I think all of the above are being seriously considered by the club. These are potential bargain signings if we can pull any of them off. Macca confirmed on Sunday that the club were definitely chasing Huntelaar. So we do know he is in the mix.

For me if I were to pick two I would pick Huntelaar and Jeffren. As I think Walcott will sign a new deal. Sturridge will be denied a move due to atorres returning to Spain. I also think Llorente will sign for a CL club, and with Rossi still not fit I think that knackers his chances.

I'd be very happy with any of these two players but I think Huntelaar and Jeffren are the more attainable ones to us.

Who would you think two of our signings would be (even players not on the list).

Jonesred

No to Sturridge i.m.o

A german pal of mine told me that in a recent copy of the german mag 11freunde it claimed that van der vaart has told hunterlaar to join spurs if he goes to england! {Ed002's Note - Schalke certainly do not want to sell Huntelaar as it is going very well for him in Gelsenkirchen and they want him to sign a two year extension to his contract - and he wants to only sign for a further year. This is the reason for the impasse not him waiting on someone to make an offer. However, Schalke said that they would likely sell if he refuses to agree any contract extension, and he hasn't - although that threat was there in the summer and they didn't sell. Fiorentina, Juventus, CSKA and Atletico Madrid have shown an interest with Napoli and Lazio appearing the most likely destinations if he were to move in January, but several EPL sides are still looking for a striker: Arsenal although they have other clear targets I would not be surprised to see him being considered), Chelsea (again he is by no means near the top of the shopping list but could be attractive to the club as a second striker) Spurs and Liverpool - both of which are interested at the right price, but I fear not the most attractive of options that Huntelaar has available. There is a valuation based on a buy out clause of 20M euros that Schalke might want to try and exercise, but even with several interested parties it might not be possible to attain such a fee. The player himself could opt to run down his contract and seek a hefty signing on fee in the summer.}

Unless its BS it looks like Walcott will not be allowed to leave in January regardless of whether he signs a new contract - but there's nothing stopping us signing a pre-contract agreement with him.

As we are looking to offload Downing but maybe can't find a buyer why not offer to loan him to villa and take Bent on loan in return - ok might not want to sign Bent permanently but he does score goals wherever he goes. As he is not getting a game it gives us a goal scorer with no risk & would give us a better option than Downing is at the moment.

Huntelaar would be the realistic choice out of the options there as I believe Llorente would not want to move to a club without CL.

Depending on money we have to spend and how much they want Sturridge may be an option.......

Hi mate . To be honest I like most of the strikers on the list but not to sure on Sturridge looks very good but seems to be a bit arrogant . For some reason BR seems to like small quick busy players so I think lorrente is ruled out . My guess is jeffren + Walcott but I like the thought of Huntelaar back with Suarez IMO . What formation did Ajax play when they were there ?

We will get players in that will fit with the system.

Jeffren Suarez, 24, RWF - £1m loan with view to buy
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, 29, ST - £6m on a 3.5yr deal worth £18m
Giuliano, 22, AM/CM - £12m

3 players exiting
Cole - the club will allow him to move on a free transfer, to free up wages for Huntelaar
Downing - £8m
Pacheco - out on loan

net spending £11m {Ed002's Note - There is an option to buy Jeffren in his contract from another side, so there will not be another one.}

Jeffren's goal tally is abysmal, he's erratic and inconsistent that's why he's out of favour at Barca and then Porto.

Word going round that Theo Walcott's house has gone up for sale

Might not mean anything but could mean something take it as you will

Shak Attack

It does mean something - it means he's moving house.

Oh sorry let me make it more clear for slow people like yourself

Walcott has put his house up for sale this could hint at a move out of London and even maybe a move to Liverpool

Of course it may just mean hes moving to another house in London but he only had it built 5 years ago so that would strike me as odd

Anyways, i hope that makes more sense to you nameless slow poster

This is a Liverpool rumours site right? Would be a bit shabby if no one posted rumours

Shak Attack

Might be a FLAT move !!

steve peplow

There is another way to look at this, if it's true, and that is to help him in negotiations with the Arsenal and taking him seriously and paying him what he wants, as a flip side to the scenario.

I don't think he's leaving Arsenal, i think he wants to stay there for as long as he can whilst getting the ''grown up'' contract he is looking for.

Wow shak attack really took that first reply badly. Defo can't be a scouser he's got no sense of humour, lighten up mate!

bring torres back

If we could get Torres for 15-20 Million i would take him back. I think their was more behind the scenes to his departure and fact the old regime had got to him as well with lack of funding and getting us into crippling debt. I think anyone in his position would have left too. He just needs his confidence back and no better fans in world to give him that boost.

For me, Torres instead of Sturridge; any time, any day!!

Why? Hes a striker who cant score

Torres can score, he doesn't get the service he did at Liverpool from Gerrard. Like anyone in sport confidence is massive and i don,t think Torres gets that from the management system at Chelsea and the fans don't back him like we did.

Baz

No better options available for the price and wages.
derryred

Each to their own and all that but for gods sake forget Torres, He's finished! Has everyone forgotten how poor his was for us in the last 18 months at our club. He is a sulky has been, don't want him anywhere near the club. There are better options.
You say anyone would have left, well they didn't. He did, whilst others stayed for the love of the club. I prey he goes to Althetico in jan so we can not see or hear of him again.

Remind yourselves of when Torres was a top class striker. Not at Chelsea. Not for the last 18 months at Liverpool. He has lost all form for over three years and has no potential. He needs to retire to Spain.

Torres was at Liverpool when we failed to qualify for Champions League football, his injuries and lack of goals were a huge part of the problem. Not blaming him, but i'm not letting him hide from the bad and only be remembered for capping of the great midfield he had working tirelessly to create chances for him.

He didn't stick around for long to help us get back there either, he was a rat fleeing from a sinking ship, he may claim what he did was ''the best for the club'' he said similar things when he left his beloved boyhood club, Atletico and came to us.

The period of time with the Spanish influx of quality was totally fresh air and just what the club needed. But we are going in a different direction with different methods and we must be supportive of that.

A soon to be 29 year old Fernando Torres on £120,000+ a week isn't where we are at. Irrelevant IF he regains form. We simply can't afford to make money not an option again. We almost lost the club last time spending big and , for some of you maybe that isn't the wake up call it should have been.

question for ed002. Sitting at lunch hour watching old Fernando Torres highlights when he was lighting it up with Liverpool. As a Chelsea fan who watches him game in and game out, what happened to him? At 28 he should be in his prime. Has he lost pace, injuries, confidence, has he been utilized incorrectly? What is the deal? he used to be the ultimate finisher.

Lee {Ed002's Note - I don't watch many of the games actually. But certainly he is not the player he was three years ago.}

An injury too many about a year in, from his final days at liverpool killed him mate. not unlike owen and fowler- an eye for a finish still there in o+f case, but the hamstrings or whatever it was jsut went a time too many...

like a greyhound pulling up and never the same again.

without having a dig at ya, why didn't abramovich spot that a full year with us before you signed him? his sole good game pretty much was the home win v your lot where he scored twice in a 2-0 win. but by then he had gone in reality.

Simple..he regrets joining Chelsea..If you're not happy it will show in your performances. Whether we are in the champions league or not Liverpool FC is a club to believe in.. Albino Penguin

Dnt worry ed i dnt think many chelsea fans watch the games they just know they won something so its fashionable to say u support chelsea

#Banter :P

Spain played him when he was injured and he wasn't the same player. He began to hit a bit of form for us in january but then left for chelsea, where he hasn't impressed at all. We moved him on at the right time and got 50 million for him. We should move on.

And he was very good at the euro...though he was mostly on bench.

Macca,
if what u say is right about huntelaar, do u think it would be a good move?
the only reason i ask is because everyone knows that when u sign for liverpool straight away there is a massive amount of pressure on you and alot of big names havent handled it at all. now huntelaar has made big moves too real madrid and ac milan and things didnt work out for him, i for one would be in two minds about signing him and would rather we looked a bit closer too home. but if we do and he does well would be the first too say how wrong i was.
would love too know what you guys, Macca and the eds think.
cheers

He's the only player who we have been linked with to have fanstastic stats and pedigree compared to others or will you be happy with Sturridge playing for our mighty club. We already have lots of potential players but now we need something special to drive us foward as I said, his statistics are brilliant.

20 Nov 2012 16:40:08
Rodgers style of play is turgid. Passing the ball endlessly in our own half.

The players he likes or wants, are a disaster.
Sturridge - please no
Jeffren, not sure if he is any good.
Borini - average at best.
Allen - good workaday player.
di Rossi - always injured.
Dempsey- done nothing at Spurs.
Siggurdson - good workaday player.
Assaidi - clever but lightweight
etc etc etc

"Rodgers: No major signings for Liverpool in January -
Brendan Rodgers says he is not looking to make big changes to his Liverpool squad when the transfer window opens in January, but admits he does want to bring another striker to Anfield."
(source: )

Redken02

Yep that's right just keep listening to what the media tells you..

AsianRed

This strikes me as unfair on so many levels I hardly know where to start. There was nothing turgid about Liverpool's second-half performance against Wigan. Dempsey has struggled at Spurs, he may not have done at Liverpool. Is there any evidence to suggest that di Rossi is a target at all? Sturridge is a young player and would need to be given time before being judged, as of course does Borini. Joe Allen has proven to be far more effective than the term 'work-a-day' indicates. Assaidi has hardly had a chance yet to prove himself. I suggest you think again.

Red Owl

Well how many major signings will we make with reduced funds and half a window, besides how can you be so sure that none of these boys will improve. Borini and allen are around 21,22

Hi eds. just question.

I was wondering if your had info regarding Assaidi, i.e why he has not really played in prem.

Is he not deemed good enough for the first team and will be used as a squad player or is he just not fit enough and upto speed with the league yet?

Thanks for your time,

Mr T {Ed002's Note - He is a squad player and I am sure opportunities will come. I don't think there is anything to worry about.}

20 Nov 2012 16:29:30
I tell u all now a front 3 of Walcott sturridge and suarez looks pretty tasty to me!

Sturidge isn't good enough. Walcott is. Our team after next summer should look like:
.........Reina
Kelly skrtel Agger Johnson
.........Lucus Allen
..........eriksen
Walcott Suarez sterling

Subs: gerrard
Suso
Hend
Butland
Shelvey
Coates
Wisdom
Enrique
Borini
And obviously acedemy players who have made the step up but I won't put names as it can be hard to predict.

Love to hear people's thoughts on that.

Liverpool are crying out for a second prolific striker, they have been for years now, and every transfer window ends the same, they don't sign the kind of striker that is needed, Walcott, Sturridge and Suarez may seem tasty on paper, but I guarantee it won't be answer to Liverpools lack of goals

Sid

Walcot doesnt wanna play right...
if so..he wont move away from arsenal..

Would love erikson.....but no chance.

I've read a few comments of not particularly wanting Walcott hooper or sturridge so who u think wud strengthen our current squad? {Ed002's Note - I would expect a couple of players to come in during January. Whether people like it or not, there has been interest shown in the likes of Hooper, Sturridge and Huntelaar.}

If thats the case i seriously hope Sturridge is at the bottom of that pile. Surely he is not the answer. Dont do it Brendan.

Honestly if we sign sturridge I will stop support....... na seriously he is poor. there is so much more out there for the kind of money he would cost. He's a bit lazy, very greedy and just vanishes when things ain't going his way. Imo we don't need him. I'd much rather stick with what we have than stick him in our team

Cudge

Stop support? Disgraceful.

Honestly. If you read it properly I stopped saying it and said.. NA SERIOUSLY.... I was mocking the people who say such things everyday. you would see from every other post i ever put up I support the club 100% as I would Sturridge if he came here. It doesn't mean I want him to come but if he did I would hope he proved me wrong and I would be behind him everyday he wears red. so read before you comment NO NAME ;)

Cudge

So you saying borini and the acedemy strikers are better than sturridge? Come on now let's think about this logically. Sturridge scores almost everytime he comes on as a sub for Chelsea, meaning he's hardly featured in any games for Chelsea let alone started. He was brilliant on loan at Bolton. He returned to Chelsea and was excellent at the beggining which got him his England place but then AVB got sacked and all this rotation started. The older players got their places back (drogba, malouda etc) and sturridge was left mainly out of the team. He's a great talent but he has some attitude problems. He's greedy on the ball, tries to much dribbling and always tries to go for goal himself...but isn't that what we need right now. A player that wants to take people on and go for goal instead of pass it back or sideways. If he starts giving the ball away to much we would then have instant replacements (borini, Assaidi, suso). If any team can change a player it's liverpool. If we do go for him and end up purchasing him in jan then IMO it will be a risk but a risk that pays off.

20 Nov 2012 18:27:13
Sturridge and Suarez can't play togeather sturridge is selfish and his ego is big. Buying sturridge will cause big problems in dressing room. Sry can't see sturridge and suarez working togeather

Hey another Mr no name who loves Mr 62appearances and 13 goals for Chelsea. Na he's rubbish and the complete opposite of what we need.

Cudge

Oh and yes I would Much prefer borini and the academy strikers. Clearly you don't watch the academy games and the academy players that are in the first team, because they are outstanding and they have a long time until there the same age as sturridge by the time they are 23 they will be much better. Personally I think a huntelaar type player would be perfect. Just the right age to give us what we need immediately but not to young that it will sideline the youth for to long. You get me?

Cudge

20 Nov 2012 15:18:04
Hi EDs, Great site you have here. I'm just curious why we're still targetting over rated English players? Didn't we pay the price for Carroll (35mil), Downing (20mil) and Henderson (20mil)? Home grown talent is not cheap + they are overrated and people always say that Prem League experience is essential. However, look at the foreign players who were/are the major names who did so well in the prem league. Namely Torres when he was with Liverpool, Drogba, Van Persie, Suarez, Hazard, Ba, Mata, Aguero, Tevez and the list goes on...they are all NOT English Players.

Now we are linked with Walcott and Sturridge...althought they might not cost as much as Downing or Carroll but I would think looking for foreign talent, though its a risk but a risk worth taking. Do you agree? PukiMak {Ed002's Note - No, I don't.}

Walcott and Sturridge are over rated, there isnt an English player in the league that is value for money, but hopefully we will be too stingy to meet that asking price for either.

20 Nov 2012 14:48:43
hai ed great site and excellent work..
Huntelar wont be coming..as schalke still in CL...
walcot..no chance either..wenegr will tie him donw for a contract somehow and he will stay there..

sturridge is the option available for BR..
I personally dont rate him at all..
but if we are to play 4-3-3
with suarez in the middle and sterling /assaidi on the left...sturridge fits perfectly in the right with borini..
Thnk BR is thinking the same..
he thinks suarez is getting goals from center..
he needs to strenghtne the right side..and sturridge plays there for chelsea...

but 15 mill for this man..is another risk...

no other strikers are priority as BR needs proven players who could make an impact immediatly..rather than giving 15 games for setling down to the team if
bought from outside the legue..

Torres wont be coming coz he doesnt fir into the system...
there would be huge bust up with torres and suarez..
as suarez wont play behind him...

So that leave ssturridge the only option...
infact we can say we replaced andy caroll with sturridge without any payment...

YNWA {Ed002's Note - Liverpool paid a little over £36M for Andy Carroll so I rather doubt any such claims will be made.}

Ed2, I believe what the poster meant in a round about way was, if we buy Sturridge for 15m then we'll have gotten Sturridge and Carroll for the money we got for Torres. So, whatever we sell Carroll for plus Sturridge will be what we sold Torres for. Fuzzy math, and doesn't take in to account the wages we saved by paying Carroll less than Torres but could be put on to a balance sheet.

SpudRed {Ed002's Note - Fortunately accounts don't work that way. If Liverpool buy Sturridge then he will cost £x and that is it. Nothing to do with Torres or Carroll or anyone else.}

Still plugging that "if we subtract the value of a player we sold years ago from the value of a player we bought, we got him for free" line?

Carroll was a complete waste of money and we had our pants pulled down big time.

Ash

If his shoe laces required a new contract Wegner wouldn't be able to tie them either!

Are transfers now paid in instalments which run over the course of the new contract signed with a new club? so in that world it dose make sense {Ed002's Note - No they are not.}

So every transfer is paid up front and in full by every football team in the world? {Ed002's Note - No, I didn't say that.}

So presumably their would be some of the fee left over on a 50 million and a 36 million transfer? unless the instalments are in the region of around 2.1mill a month on the 50mill fee and 1.5 a month on the 36mill fee, running from jan 2011 untill jan 2013, so in that world it dose make sense, no? {Ed002's Note - What are you talking about? There are no installments. There is no money left over.}

I am saying that if Chelsea owed Liverpool 50 million for Torres in jan 2011, and if they did not pay it up front and unless they have been paying 2.1 million a month to pay it in full, by jan 2013, or have even been paying 15 million or higher over the last two years then some of the transfer still needs to be paid to Liverpool. and this would run in similar circumstances for the 36 million owed by Liverpool to Newcastle, so in that case the first poster has logic to what he said, no? {Ed002's Note - No - it is all rubbish and makes no sense at all. It is not how transfers are paid for. Chelsea don't owe Liverpool anything.}

20 Nov 2012 14:46:08
What I saw against Wigan was that our left flank was unpenetratable. Everytime they tried to attack our spine they were snuffed out before getting in the 18 yard box. They resorted to wild long range shots down the centre because that's the only option we gave them. They felt their best option was to attack our right flank. That's where they made the mistake that lead to our opening goal, we all know what Sterling does best. Once we opened the scoring it meant they would have to open up more & try to get at least a goal back. That gave us an opportunity to put our stamp on the game, which we did. A lot of people think that Enrique & Johnson together on the left flank is only temporary. I'm of the "if it isn't broken, then why fix it" philosophy. I don't know if people realized it was the same pairing that we used late in the Everton game & it worked just as well against them. Either men at left back alone looks shaky to me. But with Enrique playing in front of Johnson is a completely different ball game because the opposing winger can't get cross Enrique's left side & hug the flank & expose Johnson left foot which he can't tackle with as good as his right foot. So the opposing winger/mid cuts into the midfield where it is dealt with by our defensive midfielders (Gerrar/Allen) or Skrtel & Agger our attack builds again from there. That's why Allen plays short balls back to defenders or the appropriate ball forward to players that BR has given the license to attack. Allen's role is to sit, clean up & rebuild. Both Enrique & Johnson can attack well also. I think Suso is better in possession than Henderson but Henderson releases it faster, so that was the best tactic for a team like Wigan. Suso would have gave them more time to organize their defense as he likes to hold it up & trick somebody to create space & then play the thru ball to whoever takes the created space. That will work against some teams & its good for us to be able to change according to what we need on the day. Then there's Suarez. I'm happy & confident about this starting 11. No need to pay crippling trandfer fees in January. Just a striker & an attacking player but only for the right price. Then build again in the summer but responsibly & give players like Texiera, Ibe, Nacho, Robinson, Yesil, Ngoo, etc. a chance to prove they can make the grade. slodge

Hi guys/gals/eds,I think this transfare window is very important in the respect that we dont waste the money availablle on prospects like borini henderson allen etc,I would be happy to hold off untill the summer and buy one top class player and stick with our own youth who seem to be much more advance than the above mentioned.(godin)

eds reds it semms that huntelaar will stay at shalke, especially if they are still in cl? walcott staying at aresnal at least till summer , so thats him ? so unless someone like bony makes the move , eds would you then say that sturridge would seem the most likley? if suarez is going to stay as the central striker i think someone who can play in the channels would be better any ideas eds? thanks , godblees 96 steviep62. {Ed002's Note - Would you be happy with Sturridge and Jeffren coming in?}

Ed2, Being happy with the transfer is not entirely the point. All that matters is that we push for 4th place in the 2nd half of the season. Of course, we'd prefer to sign Cavani and Falcao in Jan but all said and done all I care about is bringing in some striker depth to the squad and finishing 4th or damn close, without ruining our transfer budget for the summer when I think we will truly be looking to buy quality players and push on. Everyone with half a brain knows that the winter window is notoriously bad for getting quality players in. I'd be happy with buying a young stringer and maybe getting an experienced striker on loan.

hi eds i really wasnt saying what or who id be happy with , just asking if , with your inside information,if you think sturridge is looking the most likley at the moment? i dont think hes the answer myself but if the manager belives he can make him suit our system then thats that. jeffren? i really dont know too much about him to be honest, but you were saying there seems to be interest again, would you say we could get both or just one? thanks godbless96 steviep62. {Ed002's Note - "Most likely" is a tough one to answer Stevie. I can say that an approach has been made to Chelsea, at this point via his agent, to see if he would be available for sale in January. There has also been an enquiry, again via an agent, to see if Jeffren would be available to be loaned out for the rest of the season. Getting both is perfectly possible.}

20 Nov 2012 17:21:31
ed02 thanks for the reply. if you had a choice who would you sign to play with, or around suarez? i am confused as to were suarez is best played , where he is as main striker , as 1 of 2 strikers , in the left and right channels , or in the "tevez" role , behind the main striker in the centre of 3? hes so good he can play all of them!! unfortunatley not all at once!! would be interested in your chioice and opinion. thanks again , love this site steviep62 {Ed002's Note - If possible, I think Huntelaar would be the best solution.}

20 Nov 2012 21:30:51
thanks again ed02 huntelaar? would he come to liverpool though? so suarez behind him with one either side of suarez? it would be great!!! thanks for your time its appreciated godbless96 stevip62 {Ed002's Note - Schalke certainly do not want to sell Huntelaar as it is going very well for him in Gelsenkirchen and they want him to sign a two year extension to his contract - and he wants to only sign for a further year. This is the reason for the impasse not him waiting on someone to make an offer. However, Schalke said that they would likely sell if he refuses to agree any contract extension, and he hasn't - although that threat was there in the summer and they didn't sell. Fiorentina, Juventus, CSKA and Atletico Madrid have shown an interest with Napoli and Lazio appearing the most likely destinations if he were to move in January, but several EPL sides are still looking for a striker: Arsenal although they have other clear targets I would not be surprised to see him being considered), Chelsea (again he is by no means near the top of the shopping list but could be attractive to the club as a second striker) Spurs and Liverpool - both of which are interested at the right price, but I fear not the most attractive of options that Huntelaar has available. There is a valuation based on a buy out clause of 20M euros that Schalke might want to try and exercise, but even with several interested parties it might not be possible to attain such a fee. The player himself could opt to run down his contract and seek a hefty signing on fee in the summer.}

Lets walk back to the January transfer window. Torres has just rolled a hand grenade into the Liverpool board room,in the form of a transfer request. We manage to pull off some lovely business in getting £50 million for him,only to blow most of it on Carroll.
Anyway,if we could go back in time,i wonder does anybody think both Carroll and Torres would change their minds,that is,not to go through with the transfer?
I'd bet my bottom doller that both players would remain at their respective clubs,or at the very least,move to different clubs than Chelski and Liverpool.
Discuss?
WelshBoyDave

I've often wished that both deals had been done on a sale or return basis within a six month period? I think both players would have with out doubt returned to their Spiritual Homes.
Having said that, it's now too late for Torres in my opinion and we need to move on.

Don't get me wrong mate,i'm not suggesting we should re-sign him by any means. It's just a conversation me and a buddy were having the other day and i wanted to get everybodys opinion on it!
WelshBoyDave

What happens many times is a player is happy and doing well where he is ,along comes another team tempts him away and he never reaches expectations again the list is quite big kaka etc etc.

I dont think Torres would because with us he would have been in a dog fight for that duration whereas with Chelsea he won the champions League. I dont think he would give that up too quick.

Jelavic from everton i would go for, they allways need to sell a player so put a 12 million bid in for him.

Risking being shot down, I actually agree with you totally. His first touch shooting ability is superb, which I feel is something we lack - we seem to be a bit slow in attack at times.

In my view it will be a pity if we give up on Dani Pacheco and he is allowed to leave Liverpool in the coming months. He may just need time and confidence in making the leap from U21 to senior level.

I agree i think like most players he just needs a run in the team, he has no doubt got potential weather or not he fulfills it is another matter.

A mate of mine was on Irish TV last week and Aldo plus Hartson were the main guests. After the show they went for a few beers and the guys questioned Aldo on our transfer targets. He strongly hinted at Zaha (£15 million), Walcott (£6 million) and Huntaler (initial loan with option to buy). Carroll will be sold for £15 million, Cole for free and Pancheo for £2 million. {Ed002's Note - They were pulling his leg - sorry. A loan with an option to buy for a player with 6 months left on his contract is not going to happen.}

Liverpool will be seeing some old faces back in the near future, thats for sure.

Out will be Downing (£8m) Cole (£2m) and Carroll (£18m).

The new signings for the first team will be 3 fold, Hunterlaar (£8m) and Torres (£20m) to give experience to the attack. These are seen as the strongest contenders that Liverpool can attract without CL football. Sturrdge rumour is just that, rumour, and will hide negotiation for torres from press.

Rodgers also looks to strengthen the midfield as he has been disappointed with Cole, Henderson. Sahin isnt producing the results that had been hoped and wont be signed permanently. Alonso will return for around £10m. Again, LFC can attaract him without CL football and he will be able to coach Allen / Shelvey et al to become even better players.

There will be other additions, but these will mainly be youth/young players to support the 1st team.

The team will set up something like below: the strength in depth will not come from the traditional journey men (Cole, Poulson, Smicer etc) who are end of career on high wage. But will be supported by the youth players, low wages and high propects, thus giving them many chances to develop in the first team.

Reina,
Johnson Skertl Agger Enrique
Lucas Alonso Gerrard
Torres Huntelaar Suarez

Signed:Jambon

You were doing well untill you said Alonso for £10m.

U want Torres back??
Madrid must be pretty stupid to let alonso go for 10million. Huntelaar would b a great addition though. U though sir are another big person who simply cant let go off the past.

"Being Liverpool"

When is it being cancelled

Its an embarassment

Rogers comes accross as sooooo Cheesy

At least with Kenny we had class

The Bells

It ended weeks ago. Don't know what you are moaning about really.

20 Nov 2012 13:12:33
Kenny was the one who agreed to the series.. it was already planned by the time Rodgers was hired!

And class? Like the media outbursts he had last year? Dalglish was being laughed at!

I love Dalglish, and he's a hero (should be accademy director imo) but he lost the plot last year. He went the same way as Rafa, lost focus on the league trying to play politics with Ferguson.. Rafa and Kenny are two of my Heros. and arguably neither should've have been sacked, but for christ sakes, leave Rodgers alone and support the team will you?

YNWA! (Adam)

LET GO OF THE PAST! Kenny didn't have class he wasted £100 million on Carroll, Downing and others and he made a fool out of himself and us during the Suarez scandal. Rodgers has 10x more class than Kenny. Even though Kenny is still a legend amongst us fans, he had no class and no idea how to run this football club!

RedSpud

Kenny's team in his first 12 months was second to only Man U on points ( thats title winning form ), and we were still in the mix comming into the Xmas period last year, then Lucas got injured, Enrique got injured and lost form and Suarez got Suspended twice including the 8 match ban ( we fell to pieces ). People just see the last 6 months not the full 18.
I'm not pro anyone or anti anyone, but let's have a bit of sence.

KK is a legend..
But noting to take away from wasting 100 mill for 3 players.....

"Title winning form" you say?
He didnt win the title though did he? as some of the others have said, Kenny lost his focus and was definatly out of his depth as manager. This club needs to forget the past and what could have been stories......drives me nuts!

Anyone who slags off Kenny does not know what it means to be a LFC fan. He transcends points tallys and transfer fees. End of story.
On a point of fact, Comolli was director of football and Ayre was CEO when Kenny was manager. Anyone who thinks Kenny signed the cheques is a complete tool and you'd get more sense out of a drunken chimp chewing a keyboard.

King kenny is a legend no doubt but he does not transcend points tally.liverpool doing well is the most important thing.

Sturridge is not a good choice, 15m is way too much for a striker who is not prolific and never will be either. Sturridge only gets games at Chelsea because Torres is so poor otherwise he would just warming the bench or not even making it. There is far more value out there. Rodgers needs to look beyond the players he has coached before,he seems very one dimensional in his knowledge of football players and markets.

Mako {Ed002's Note - Rodgers has never coached Sturridge.}

22 goals in 40 games is very good and that was from playing on the right

Walcott is obviously 1st choice but Sturridge is a very good player just needs games, hes a forward that scores GOALS.

I dnt get it people complain when we pass too much, complain when we go for a player thats a but more direct and goal hungry, moan when we dnt buy players n moan when we do target players

Sturridge will get 15-20 goals a season just trust Rodgers, anyways who else can play on the left right n centre and score that much saurez is staying in the middle

But he should be cheaper though i admit that more around the 10-12 mill mar

Sturridge is better than any one we have up front at the moment bar LS. If the price is right get him. I'm not sure I like the fella though, he seems to have that sulky teenager body language sometimes.

On the subject of Sturridge, there is a possibility that his sefish play is borne out always trying to establish and prove his worth for a run in the team.
If he had a good Manager and coaching staff behind him and not the Managerial merry-go-round that is Chelsea.
Then perhaps with a run in the team he would improve dramatically. You can't deny he's got an eye for goal, good pace, quick feet to get a shot away in a crowded penalty area and can beat a man. So do we take a chance? If Brendan decides we do? Then it's our job as supporters to give him a chance.
kidmillions {Ed002's Note - Liverpool has had more managers than Chelsea since Sturridge arrived.}

He may as well stay at Chelsea as Di Matteo will be sacked soon anyway.

Ed002 - I normally love your responses they are often classics, but you do have to stop always comparing Chelsea with Liverpool. The fact we have more managers since Sturridge arrived at Chelsea is irrelevant, the post was just saying that the reason sturridge might be deemed selvish is because he is constantly trying to impress new managers - nothing to do with the number of managers liverpool have had.

RedChris {Ed002's Note - The post used the phrase the "managerial merry-go-round that is Chelsea" and I was pointing out a factual point regarding Liverpool.}

Di Matteo is the only manager to give him a decent run for Chelsea and Sturridge scored about 11 goals in the first half of the season.

I honestly reckon we could be better served bringing back Tom Ince instead of possibly signing Sturridge and Walcott , I would like to see Ince get a chance like Sterling has either side of Suarez .

To be honest I think we have to respect Tom Ince' decision to take his career elsewhere at 18 years of age and thus prove himself a superb young player with BFC .

At 20 years of age with his whole career ahead of him , in form and determined to suceed , I think he is just what we need in the squad and would look forward to seeing him develop with our young 1st team players .

What do you reckon ?

Jargon .

He's a young English player that's played under 3 different foriegn Managers all with their own different ideas and coaching methods in his time at Chelsea.
kidmillions

Paul Ince needs to let go of the reigns a little bit of Tom if his potential is to be realised. Tom is an exceptional talent with a lot of ability and Paul is trying to be a good father and get the best financial security for him. The problem is that Paul is trying to get Tom the money before he has truly earned it. One day Tom will play for England and will also play in the CL but rit now it s in his best interests to stay at Blackpool for a few more years and then make the step up to the big boys as a first team regular and not a squad player with the will come the contract that makes mega money. I would prefer Phillips over Ince if we are going for a Blackpool winger as he offers more to the team at present but I would rather go after a foreign winger who is in his peak to be honest.
Scouse_Pride

Liverpool do not hire fire managers at will ed2 like chelsea do,there were only 2 managers who got sacked in a hurry roy and kenny.rodgers is here for the long haul. {Ed002's Note - If you cannot grasp the point that Liverpool has had more managers than Cheslea since Sturridge arrived at Chelsea there is no hope for you at all. It is simple and correct factually.}

20 Nov 2012 11:33:43
I wouldn't mind Sturridge as long as we get Huntelaar too.

Levans.

Won't be getting Huntelaar and Sturridge, we are not going to spend more than 15m on our attack, just hope that this Sturridge rumor is just that.

Mako

I have only one thing against signing Sturridge , that he is a dreadful player .

20 Nov 2012 10:07:51
I am glad that the post I put up a week ago regarding Sturridge is coming close to being signed. Had it on very good authority. To be honest though, £15 million up front with £3 million in add ons is way too much for him.

If we really end up paying 15 m+ for him I'll be very disappointed..True he is much younger than downing and has more potential obviously, and we would probably recoup a lot from sales ,and he would have decent sale on value but still for me he is max a 10 million player and that would be if he isn't being a selfish ball hog..

there is a lot of contradictions in there , ignore any literal price, If you think he is not worth the price tag, why would you think he would have a sale on value ? being young does not necessary mean his value with increase with age ?(Carroll, Henderson 2 examples) .. And if you think he is a selfish ball hog, why would you spend a single penny?

Roy

No chance! I hope he's at least 3rd choice come January. Would like to think the likes of Huntelaar and Walcott will be thought of well before he's even contemplated. The guy just doesn't seem to grasp the concept of football being a team game. Lacina Traore even?

Eds your opinions on Sturridge please.

Personally, I have always thought him to be selfish and greedy when he has the ball. This is especially true when he plays wide and should be creating chances instead he seems to just cut in and take a strike at goal.

£15m is also alot of cash for someone who has never been a first team regular for his club.

Better value elsewhere or trust Brendan to coach him right?

Long live the king {Ed001's Note - I don't like him, he has gone beyond selfish, Suarez is selfish, but Sturridge is a whole new level. Someone needs to explain to him that football is a team game, that passing is a good thing at times. He is like that annoying kid in the playground who thinks he is the only player on the team and tries to beat everyone else.}

Messi was like that at school :)
kidmillions

Ed maybe the reason he dont pass is cos he dont like his team m8s

To kidmillions

you are not comparing sturridge to messi surely.
sturridge is over rated IMO dont like his attitude,dont like the egotistical side of him and when he learns it is a team game and the ability to look up , spot a team mate in a better position and play him in is much better end result than trying to score a worldy

Steven Fletcher went to Sunderland for £12m. I think the going rate for a decent young striker with a couple of years left on his contract has to be at least £12m based on that deal. Personally I think Sturridge is better than Fletcher and would think that £15m is about right. Who else could you get for £15m? Jelovic maybe - can't think of anyone else.

We all know we need a striker but Daniel Sturridge would be a truly awful signing! If Brendan Rodgers wants to stick with his philosophy of playing pass and move football then he is the last player we need. I'm not even sure the word "pass" is in his vocabulary. If Sturridge comes in then Suarez's goal rate will decrease dramatically, he just won't get the service. Please Mr. Rodgers, don't ruin our style of play by signing one of the most overrated players in the country. Walcott may be cheaper and if u stick him down the middle, the lad can finish. ANYONE BUT STURRIDGE!!!

Harty.

Let's hope we don't sign him! I can see the knives are already out!!

Not a rumour at all but was wondring on the eds opinion, there is a lot of talk of torres wanting to come back, and on your site there is a lot of mixed reviews on this, even on other LFC web pages, what is your honest opinion on torres coming back, and also would you have him back? I don't think he will return I think he going back to spain, but I'd take him back any day, tho his wages would be an issue, also what do you think his current market value would be to re buy him? Great site and many thanks.

Up to a couple of days ago, I would 've dismissed this Torres rumour as nonsense, but I have seen and heard this loan story in many different places now which starting to make me wonder. it does n't make sense to me particularly from Chelsea POV he is their only experienced striker, even if they buy one , they'll still need cover. But I do remember both of us initially thought the Suarez to Liverpool was made up nonsense and turned out to be true ? so you never know ..(By the way I am not fussed either way, I agree he is not the same player he was for us and will take him months to get back to how he used to be).

Roy

Always rememebr the more your hear something the more you think it is true. Torres will not be returning.

kenny

Roy it has took him 18monts to get back the level he is playing at now the only way we will seehim score 20+ now is on fifa :)

A European championship winners medal, A champions league winners medal and an FA cup winners medal. Not bad for a player who went down hill after leaving us?
Maybe at Chelsea the whole team does not just play to him and his style so he does'nt look as good?
Just a thought, he will be going back to Madrid anyway, and we will pay for Sturridge who does'nt even make the starting eleven.

20 Nov 2012 14:05:26
How much did he contribute to any of those medals/wins? Anybody trying to argue that Torres is now better is blind. Based on every single Chelski performance,they wouldnt send £15 million quid on hi let alone £50.

To the last postet he won them sittin on the bench hardly taking part n even said himself it was as if he never won those medals because he hardly played

He gave up all the love and admiration for those medals hole it was worth it coz it certainly doesnt look like it was worth it judging by his glum face

huntelaar will not cost 20 mil,has only 6 mounths left on his contract.
cavani is a great player but a drifter like suarez,we need a hernandez/higain/huntelaar/inzaghi kind of striker.
very hard to find that type.
we are playing good football +no team will play 1 on 1 against suarez and sterling thats why we need that stiker for the tap ins.the striker i wont will have space in the box because suarez sterling are good in passing there opponent and a defender will have to cover and leave space in the box.
huntelaar would be my choice the situaion we are in.
why should we spend 25/30 mil on a striker when we have yesil/sinclair(the real deal in 2/3 years time).
if we have 20mil to spend i rather spend it on erikson can play the gerrard role or from the left side cutting inside.
gerrard has a few years left in him but cannot play 2 matches a week we need to take care of him.

we are short in attack
huntelaar
borini
suarez
sterling
assaidi
thats enough lets give yesil/morgan/ngoo a chance maybe 1 will take it.
midfield
henderson
gerrard
lucas
shelvey
allen
sahin
erikson
roddan/coady/adjorjan same story.

carra
flanagan/sama/robinson.

sell cole buy erikson januari
sell carroll buy huntelaar januari
sell downing no replacement just yet maybe in summer.
carra no replacement just yet maybe in summer.
i believe 4th spot is possible this season,if in jabuari we are 4/5 points behind we have a chance.
lets keep the money for summer cl spot will make a differnce to the players we might wont + FSG will spend more wanting to stay up there so they can concentrate on the ground.
future looks bright

Tend to agree with most of this, but if suarez gets injured or banned we are definately short. If we got Huntelaar and Walcott we would suddenly look like we have depth.

Has anyone actually looked at the table? If we assumed WBA wont stay where they are (and I'm sure event they dont beklieve this) we are only 5 point off 4th place right now! We have a run of games from now to Xmas which gives us a fantastic chance of being 4th going into the new year - before we get reinforcements. If I had to put a bet on it, this is exactly what I would go for! {Ed002's Note - Liverpool are 9 points off fourth place right now.}

Ed with the speculation in the press that we are looking at the Spurs under 21 coach, does this mean Borrel could be following Seguera?
Given the impact the young players are having now, after so long with so few coming through this has to be looked at as mistake? be very interested in your opinion in the matter.
RNred {Ed001's Note - I believe the idea is for the new guy to work as a coach under Borrell.}

Thanks Ed. Spurs and City, have had some success in recent times with the youth teams and scouting so if there going to help our acadamy teams, it might be good news.

Laudrup is rebuilding at Swansea the same as us and will also need funds, do not be surprissed if BR brings in Dyer and Graham. Swansea would be open to the idea, in our budget, they are use to the BR system and are 2 positions we need to fill.
We would all like the Munian's and Cavani's but we have to be realistic. These 2 add to a small squad and in areas we are really short.

Sturridge will NOT be joining. Just the media trying to stir up a story.

20 Nov 2012 07:20:01
The lack of forwards has had the unexpected bonus of finding a style, formation and position, that has turned Suarez into a consitant goal scorer, does BR now change this when he brings in more forward players? or are we looking at back up players for what we have?

Suare has a better goals to game ratio than Cavani, Falcao, Ronaldo, van Persie and a better international ratio than Messi

And he done that playing with downing, henderson, carroll & spearing

Suarez up there with Messi? U betchya

Suarez isn't fit to clean Messi's boots.

He might be fit for one boot.

For mine, Ronaldo and Messi are in a category of their own right, while Suarez is right up top at the next tier. If he can keep this up and improve a couple of aspects then who knows.

Cavani
100 goals in 215 league games and 13 goals in 45 international caps

Falcao
109 goals in 184 league games and 15 goals in 41 caps

Van persie
119 goals in 265 games and 31 goals in 71 caps

Cristiano ronaldo
211 goals in 334 games and 37 goals in 100 caps

Luis Suarez
126 goals in 222 games and 30 goals in 60 caps

All im going to say is thank the heaven we have Suarez his goals to games ratio is better than all the above

Even better than Ronaldo!

Only player to have a better goal rate is Lionel Messi and even then Messi has 31 goals in 75 caps for Argentina so Suarez has a better international record than the best player in the world

Suarez is arguably the 2nd best player in the world and at the very least 3rd best

Suarez has scored 172 goals in 298 games at club level in all competitions.

Ah now lets get real suarez is no bleedin

Messi

On his worst day Messi is 100 times better than suarez is on his best day

And Falcao is the world's best striker not the best player thats Gerrard.

Messi is in a different stratos sphere altogether

The above doesnt include europe as its unfair to compare and not every player plays in europe every season

It is only league games and international which all player play in every season so its easier to compare

But the figures are correct Suarez is up there with the best he's in the top 3 easy

Ed, do you think the board could give us 50 mil this January? That plus sales of downing cole hendo and Carroll could raise 90 mil altogether and I think Rodgers could put more of a mark on our squad with players that fit the system with that kind of money! I'd it possible?
Please post and reply {Ed001's Note - nope.}
