Hi Eds. Just a quick one. With Macca saying there will be a few sales this summer, is there anyone beyond the obvious who is likely to be in line for an exit, i. e. other than Reina, Skrtel, Downing and Carroll? My fear is that we could see someone like Enrique, Henderson or Shelvey move on just to get some cash in when we would be better off keeping them, or even bigger names like Agger and Johnson. I know others will likely be off (Jones, Gulacsi, Coates, Wilson, Spearing, Assaidi, Pacheco etc. ) but doubt they'll bring in much cash. Thanks for your time!

Hi Ed`s can you tell me any info on Jordan Ibe. I thought he had a promising game against a relegated Q. P. R. Is he going to be part of the team for next season or may he be a loan option.
> My other question is related to jonjo shelvey, do you think he will be handed another season to establish himself. I feel at the moment that he is under a lot of pressure and is capable of becoming that steven gerrard mould we use to know. He needs more belief and I would hope to see more of hime next season.

Thanks {Ed002's Note - There will be no loan in September.}

Give me Toure on a free over 10-12m Williams anyday. Toure obviously not a starter, but it's someone who's not only been around the block, but knows what winning the league is all about. No risk signing imo, as long as we get in 2 decent, youngish centre backs as well.

Gotta love that Mirror.

they have a new name heading to Liverpool every single day.

I swear they have every players name in a giant drum.

Spin that baby!

Today it's Kolo Toure.

When you say sales. what sort of players do you think are going to generate the sort of funds to compete for the top 4? I mean we can not hide the fact that the players we sell will be fringe cut players at the club. I hope all the transfers this summer are exclusive from the press. again we make a humilation with finalising deals after we say we want a player. so frustrating.

Kolo Toure. please please no

Agree0 Disagree0

Relax ffa he will be a back up it says in the same article that papadopoulos is our main target and alderweireld is an alternative with Digne as a possible left back

Toure papadopoulos and digne would be a very good window in regards to defence

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2013 22:31:24
Seeing now that Toure is being linked with us and I personally would welcome him. I always thought him to be like Carragher, even though he has aged he is a proven leader and a great defender.

Looks like there will be a lot of sales in the summer to generate a healthy war chest.

Cheers

Macca

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't suppose you have any idea who the players leaving are do you Macca?

I'd be bitterly disappointed if Henderson was sold, I think he's a great box-box type player, he's no Stevie G but he's certain decent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Macca any clues on who'll be leaving?

Agree0 Disagree0

I expect Reina, Skrtel, Carroll, Shelvey, Downing and Coates just off the top of my head should bring some decent money for Rodgers to add to the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the players who will be leaving will be the fringe, loan and players who the club feel wouldn't make it at LFC.

Skrtel, Coates, Flanagan, Gulacsi, Wilson (on a free), Spearing, Assaidi, Carroll and Pacheco are all probably going to leave.

From the reserves and academy, Sama, Coady, Robinson, Adorjan, Morgan, Belford, Ngoo and Roddan.

The only thing I know is that CB's from the academy will be leaving and new ones bought in.

Hey Macca,

Thanks for the Info.

Judging by what has been said it would be reasonable to assume;

Reina, Skrtel, Spearing, Carroll, Downing, Shelvey, Coates, Wilson? Flanagan? Pacheco? Ngoo?

not sure who else! Hopefully not Hendo!

If these were Replaced by signings of the ilk Rodgers has already made a top four place could be within reach. Especially because only Reina is in the 1st team.

Any truth we are after Diego Capel from Lisbon eds? {Ed019's Note - Marseille, Swansea and Braga have shown an interest Diego Capel who will likely be available after what has been a pretty torrid time this season - although Marseille have no found another withe player to step in for Ayew. His agent has been instructed by Sporting to find him a new club with an asking price in the region of €6M. His agent has spoken with a number of clubs in England, including Spurs, Liverpool, West Ham and Sunderland.}

BR has way more points in his first than Rafa. Dalglish, houllier and hodgson did

That along with title contending goals scored, conceding less

All with half a season with only 1 striker and a 17 year old sterling behind him

Imagine a full season with studge and cou + new signings

Thank you BR

Credit where it's due

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But he won nothing

Could any of the eds do a brief description or comparison on young Sinclair sterling and Ibe if you could it would be grate to see there strong points so on so on
Would be really appreciated grate site and work guys

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sterling is smallest. He's already got kids. The others don't so he may have more leadership quailities due to his experiences of being a father. He is rumoured to like reggae music although I happen to know for a fact that disco is his favourite.

Ibe is in the middle in terms of hieght. As previously stated, he has no kids. So he differs from Sterling in that way. His favourite sweets are Jellies although he is only allowed one a day due to a strict diet.

Sinclair is the tallest. He has no kids so he is similar to Ibe in that way but differs from Sterling. He does like reggae music FACT and he has a funky haircut.

Hope this helps.

Davey Sulls

Agree0 Disagree0

All of them are excellent young talents. We probably won't see them regularly in the first team for the next 2 year or so, though Sterling might well be the squad winger next year.

Raheem Sterling, 18, is very fast, lots of skill and is not afraid to use them! He is a hard working player too and for such a small frame, doesn't get bullied off, largely because of excellent agility. He has terrific acceleration and with good coaching, could go on to be our version of Walcott or even better. He will be primarily a winger.

Jordon Ibe, at 17 is more direct, and has a better developed body, and hence has that little bit extra natural strength. He has better speed than acceleration as opposed to Sterling, who is faster off the blocks. Not as fancy as Sterling, he could become better than Sterling and is already a better finisher.

Jerome Sinclair, I have not seen much of, but from what I have seen, he is very agile and seems to have that 'knack' for scoring. He is fast, tries his hand at dribbling when he doesn't need to in my opinion, but is the better team player.

Hope this helps.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

So an 18 y/o Sterling could have more leadership qualities because he has babies by 2 different girls? or maybe he's just another overpaid person who behaves like a rapper

So last season it was Ramirez that everyone's "sources" were telling them was nailed on to sign. before that Turan, Honda and countless others. wonder who this summers "certain to sign" rumour will be. obviously before he joins Port Vale or Dagenham & Redbridge in a last minute swoop!
Andy

Believable1 Unbelievable0

It's Eriksen ofcourse!

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. Eriksen will be the red herring this window. Although we need to bring in a few more faces (CB, out wide and up front), I still think the priority is centre midfield in the holding position. As good as Lucas is, we need an Alonso type player with his quality of distribution. That type of player is central to our playing style. Hope BR addresses this over the summer
G

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen the big red herring and, judging by recent posts, Papadoupolous as well. We have no chance (in terms of money or our current status in Europea in competition i. e we are in none) of either yet fans already developing quite a fervour over both.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2013 21:53:09
Just to add my opinion if you do not mind.

This season has been very similar to last season in my opinion, however slightly better. We've seen goals spread across the team, not just Suarez and Gerrard (although yeah, Suarez has scored a lot of our goals), we've also seen a lot of players that weren't at their best last season step up their game. I'm not sure if it's Rodgers or the players or the coaches or what, but am I the only one who thinks Downing and Henderson have been really good this year? They've really stepped up and improved their game, I understand they're no Ronaldo's but they've both provided a lot to the team this season, and I'm genuinely looking forward to see how they do next season (especially Henderson). I think they deserve credit for stepping up their game. Some of Downing's assists this year have been absolutely amazing I think, and the work rate and goals scored by Henderson have been equally as good.

I think the future looks bright. I hope we keep hold of Suarez for this season (I think he'll go after this season coming), and with the money raised from sales; this is Rodgers' big opportunity to create his squad and get us into that fourth spot. This is his chance, and we're giving him a fantastic opportunity providing FSG supply him with the money to do so.

I'm feeling really optimistic about next season and although I've always said that I didn't think we'd get top 4 this year, I think we can definitely at least challenge for it next, and I'm predicting we either get it or come very close like Tottenham did this year. Providing we get top 4 the year after that, I'll be happy.

I really hope Rodgers can take our team back to the top, we're a club that should be winning the premier league not aiming for fourth, so let's hope Rodgers is the man to do it!

Thanks, YNWA.

Probable summer
Ins
Xabi Alonso 10m
Callum McManaman 7m
Alex McCarthy 3m
Kolo Toure free
Luke Shaw 10m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Guarantee none of them will sign.

Xabi too old and plays where Gerrard plays
McManaman has played well for 2 months
McCarthy worth more than 3m to his club but not nough PL experience for us
Toure - old, high salary, best days behind him
Shaw - too risky for us at the price and Chelsea bound when he moves

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2013 21:47:17
Ed, or those in know.
Having never seen Papadopoulos play, I don't understand how a 21 year old could demand such a reputation.

Is he considered a great talent for his age, cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is an excellent defender mate. Not the tallest, but very strong, excellent in the air, good pace and good positional sense. He never gets bullied and is an excellent leader, not afraid to have a go at his senior team mates if they are arsing around.

Probably made him look like the perfect defender there, but he reminds me of Vidic when he was his best fro Manchester United but with that calmness with which Thiago Silva plays.

In my opinion, LFC have no chance of getting him, as Ed002 points out, Man City and Chelsea have already made their interest known to Schalke 04. Plus he will be very expensive, over 15 million pounds at the very least.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

Honest have only seen him play a few matches but overall I have been highly impressed with his play for one so young, but honestly not enough to give an in depth review of the player I am afraid.

Agree0 Disagree0

From what i've seen he's not the best on the ball in terms of distribution, but a no nonsense pure defender; mmmm, haven't we just lost someone like that?

Hi ed's,
Just a name I thought worth mentioning as we are obviously going to be looking at CB's. I know of no interest, jut wondering if anyone did or if anyone thinks it would be someone we look at? Thomas Vermaelen. Can't get a game at Arsenal yet arguably one of the best CB's in premiership over last few seasons and would suit us in my opinion (ball playing centre back). Thoughts?

Hey eds,
Is there anyone yous reckon we have a chance of getting in the window? and do you think we will improve our forward line? Do you think that borini, suarez and sturridge are enough to push for europe next year? Personally I think that sturridge has been excellent since joining and suarez (obviously) has, and I think that borini could be decent enough if he deosnt get injured? And what about the young striker Samed Yesil we bought last year? Is he ready for first team yet? I know we are primarily targeting a centre back, winger and centre mid and maybe a goalkeeper, and even a left back for enrique cover, but I would still definitely welcome a new striker. Do you think we have a chance with the likes of remy or roberto soldado? Or even dzeko if he wants to leave? Personally I think we might just be alright up front, but is there anyone we have shown serious interest in? {Ed052's Note - of course there are some players we will sign. I belive we have enouth strike power for top4, but need to improve defensively to get there. Yesil is highly rated, and needs to get a run of matches when he comes back from injury. A striker is a long way down priorities, and, if we do sign one will be a Suarez replacement or a 4th striker. We woht be signings Remy, Soldado or Dzeko.}

hi Ed what position do you feel Liverpool need to strengthen to be prem contenders and who can you see coming {Ed052's Note - CB, LB, RB, GK, RM to be title contenders. I expect us to get 4 of those, so am very positive for next season.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

CB - Papa
LB - Digne, i'd love Shaw
RB - promote McLaughlin
GK - McCarthy
RM - Mertens/Ince

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need a rb we have glen Kelly wisdom and more

Agree0 Disagree0

McLaughlin is already our right back as well. Kelly might be tried as centre back - which might put less stress on his body hopefully enabling him to stay fit for longer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom is no right back and I would go out on the limb and say neither is kelly. that said both can be top class cb both can play football. kelly seems way to injury prone and worse again is out for a long time when he gets injured. so this has knocked back his development. 1 more injury and he will be sold i'd say. wisdom at his age looks like a great credit to the under age system so strong for his age

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt we will sign a LB or a RB Ed052. Those positions will probably be looked into after next season.

The real AG {Ed052's Note - I think its possible we will get a LB}

i hope we buy eriksen, erikson from the left lucas gerrard next to him and coutinho the most attacking midf. with henderson allen as back up. eriksen can play in coutinho role and visa versa. gerrard can play all 4 positions. henderson can play all roles in midfield. 6 midfielders that are up to standard. we need a worldclass cb and another left back and winger. I would keep skrtl as a back up. sell cuates clearly no future at the club. sell carroll not in br plans. sell assaidi no future, ibe sterling. with the money from sales we should be able to buy a left back and eriksen. that leaves fsg to fund a cb and winger/attacker. fsg have to be fools not to spend a little extra, 4 class signings and the squad we already have we will be in the top 4 next season, cl will follow and money will be made. maybe I am crazy but I think 4 class singning we don't need to fear anyone in th pl malta

Seems realistic to me

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Downing, Borini Shelvey out and no forward?Dont think that is the plan thoug. Rest of incoming players you mentioned I would be very very happy with. Maybe Tello and Ince or one striker instead or Borini?Forward is a must even if them two stay with us.

disappointed whenever I watch Shelvey now

Used to love it when he came on/or started because he showed so much passion, particularly last season when things weren't going our way he was the only player that seemed to make an effort

But now I don't know. He's extremely clumsy and a bit too headstrong. To me it seems like he's got complacent with himself, ever since he played for England he hasn't produced what we know he's capable of

Think he has the potential to be outstanding but unfortunately don't think he will reach it unless he gets his head into gear!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hope we keep him and Rogers is the main man to do so what ever happens I wish him unexceptional he is quite young with talent come on get your confidence up

Agree0 Disagree0

Not good enough I'm afraid, those who think he's the next Stevie g r way Off track.

Agree0 Disagree0

Shelvey has potential, sometimes I think he has a attitude problem. could be me

Agree0 Disagree0

It's unfair to compare him to Stevie G.
Yes Gerrard sets the benchmark but there have been many a good Liverpool player who weren't half the player as Gerrard.
derryred

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope he stays, it annoys me sometimes people slate him and yet he is still only a baby in the game, he will defiantly get better there's no doubt about that, I think a full seasons loan could do him the world of good if he is not going to get much game time next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know what has happened to Shelvy this season, with all that potential he just seems to be treading water at the mo. Is it his head? I would go for Diame myself and maybe another loan for Jonjo as I still believe he's got the talent and still so young, which a lot of people tend to overlook.

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesn't matter if he is young, he's got into the squad because he is, for his age, big physically. The truth of the matter is he has no technique, a poor first touch and I don't think will be anything better than a peripheral player for us. Also flies into tackles and looks like a red card waiting to happen - not the answer to our long term centre midfield solution and, if he goes, won't be a difficult void to fill.

Agree0 Disagree0

With the summer here and the transfer market about to go manic. What is everyone's opinion on new additions and departures?

For me I see the following happening.

Keepers.
I can't even think of a keeper to come in so I will leave this one. I wouldn't mind Reina going but if we are going to sell him to Barca why aren't we going for Sanchez instead of Tello as part of the swap?

I think in Reina we have a player Barca really want and are looking to to fill the keeper role. Barca don't want Sanchez so why not offer them 5-6 million plus Reina and see if they will accept it? Seems a win win situation to me, we get a more experienced player (who is still only 24) who can play on either wing plus up front, and they get a keeper they desperately need.

Defence.
I can see Coates certainly leaving this summer and we have just lost Carragher so that's two gone. I can see Tiago Illori being Coates' replacement and I'd like to see us sign T. Alderweireld to replace Carragher. Both seem reasonably priced and Alderweireld can play right back as well as centre back. I can also see another youngster coming in to compete with Enrique for the left back role.

Midfield.
Even though he's had a good season I will still move on Downing this summer. His improved form can only help us get a better fee than we would have last summer. Like most of us I would love to see us sign Eriksen for the left. Brilliant prospect and having two wingers in form of Sanchez and Eriksen in the side could only be good.
I could see another midfielder arrive but couldn't even guess on who it will be. It will probably depend on the fees we receive for the likes of Carroll, Downing, Pacheco, Spearing and Coates.

If we could afford another high value midfielder I would like us to test Bilboa's resolve with a cheeky 15 million bid for Munian. Still young and would provide excellent cover for the wings.

Just my preference and we all have them.

Jonesred

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alderweireld can play cb right back but he is too slow. we need a dominating cb next agger a worldbeater. kelly wisdom mclaughlin can play right back enough options there.

Hi Ed's, which newspapers/journalists are supposed to be the more reliable ones when it comes to transfers? {Ed002's Note - There is no easy answer as it changes club by club. Sometimes national paper journalists buid a relationship - sometimes provincials do better.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

On Downing this season.

I'm not sure, but Coutinho has the exact same stats for 12/13 in prem league with 3 goals, 5 assists but only played 12 games where downing has played 29. but

Fill your team with Coutinho's and we'll lose in some defensive areas, it is about balance. Not sure? Good squad player? Expensive one if so.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Muller would fit in with what your saying but we couldn't and wouldn't get him

Agree0 Disagree0

What! that's like saying, if u fill the team. of carraghers, we lose out in attck. he's an outstanding talent. have a good bavk 4 and a good midfielder who can protect aswell as 4ward. then u let coutinho express himself!
5 gold stars

Agree0 Disagree0

Coutinho has 3 goals and 7 assists in 13 appearance this season for LFC.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here. I'm not saying we don't need Coutinho, he's our most promising player in my opinion.

Just thinking about downing and do we get rid. I'm thinking maybe downing offers some defensive options so offers another dimension but we so desperately need Coutinho and another one like him as well!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes we should get rid of Downing asap - he is inconsistent, doesn't provide this great balance for defensive cover that your imagining and contributes so little to the team that it is painful. Plus if I see him cut inside and smash a shot 5 yards over the bar again i'm going to put me foot through the TV. He is not good enough and never has been - he was a bad, expensive purchase which we should never have even considered, Dalglish made a big mistake and one we should try to fix by getting rid.

Listening to Reina on LFC TV (free on the website) he doesn't sound like someone who's leaving -

"it'll be quieter in the dressing room (w/out Carra), we'll miss him a lot"

"I think we're building. We've been improving a little bit, especially in the second part of the season. We have to keep that in mind and build on that second half. I think we are not far away from the top four spots and hopefully we'll only be better next season. "

failure

4 out of 10 at best.

we have failed in every objective this season.
it's astonishing that people on here are lauding the 'achievements' of br.

what exactly are those?

qualification for cl - failure
fa cup - failure
europa league - failure
any blooming cup - failure
league table/points - failure

oh but you say season of transition, played some young players. wow haven't most lfc managers blooded young players? how do you think they got in the team previously!

oh but we played some great football the season --- really?
how consistent were we!
did we beat a team in the top 4.?

we have been poor - fact!

season review. failure --br had money - but we have been woeful.

m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Woeful is a tad harsh, the kids never let us down, seasoned professionals let us down, Skrtel, Downing, Enrique, Lucas all dipped in an out of form. Allen and Borini must improve, but Sturridge and Coutinho obviously will help us move forward

Agree0 Disagree0

My my aren't you a ray of sunshine!

And here's me thinking we got more points than last season whilst cutting the wage bill drastically and having to rely heavily on youth players, especially in the early part of the season.

And i'm not suggesting the season was a huge success, but think you need to gain some perspective.

The last few seasons have been a mess and I see real signs that the tide is turning!

Whats wrong with your brain? the man took on a huge task. the board didn't actually help in leaving him with one striker. a non fit lucas and gerard until the season was at xmas. he's gave suso wisdom sterling all game time at the same period. brought in an amazing talent in coutinho and a not so shabby sturridge in jan.

For me Carra will be up there with the best defenders who as played for the club if not the best. Hello Eds,
a Question to Ed001
how many signings do you reckon the club would be looking to make now with the possible departure of Reina, Skrtel, Carroll, Coates, Assaidi, Spearing, Shelvey etc.?

I personally reckon now we need to make atleast 5 signings.

A GK- looking likely to be Mignolet or Begovic

2 CBs - would like kyriakos papadopoulos or Lovren + a young CB (Zouma would be dream buy) but would take Illori.

A CM - a defensive midfielder or someone good at tackling. Would like Capoue but would be happy with McCarthy.

A Winger - would really like Tello

Additionally possibly a LB - Digne (dream buy) or Alex Sandro. {Ed001's Note - depends on who does leave. Until that is certain, it is impossible to say. We need a cb, cm with bite in the tackle and a lb anyway. The replace those others that go with better quality, though some could come from the youth team, rather than being bought.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't we also need a winger atleast Ed. {Ed001's Note - not sure we actually need one desperately, with a few bright sparks in the kids and Suarez and Coutinho capable of playing out there.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a winger badly - if coutinho or surez get injured what have we got? Downing and Assaidi? Suicidal squad depth, we need another winger whilst Sterling, Ibe et al are finding their feet - not fair on the youngsters to be potentially launched into the first team with all the pressure and expectation on their shoulders when so young and not fair on the fans to have to keep suffering Downings rank ability (in spite of his improvement) and Assaidi's abject performances. Think CM position is a less of a priority but obviously if we could strengthen it as well then that'd be good.

Hi eds what days the trasfer window open? {Ed001's Note - the actual domestic window is open now.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So does that mean teams in the UK can now start transferring players? And international players as from 1st July?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2013 13:02:59
Ed001 if you are around, who do you think would be good buys for the CB? Obviously we have been linked with Botia, Gardos, Zambrano, Ilori, Lovren and Papadapoulous, while the likes of Williams have been mentioned too (De Vriej and Alterweireld now unlikey to be pursued)

Based on interest and affordability, who do you see us moving for?

An answer would be much appreciated as I value your thoughts and opinions on footy in general very highly.

Thanks,

The real AG {Ed001's Note - I haven't seen anyone I really like myself as an option, but, going on what people who have seen him have told me about him, plus the fact that Sevilla are in serious monetary difficulties and need to sell, I would say Botia. I haven't seen him play much, but I am told that he likes to play from the back, rather than just welly it, which fits in with our system. I also know we have had him looked at, hence why I was asking people about him as a player. I would like to see Kelly, when fit, given a chance to impress there as well.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks Ed001. Do you see us only signing 1 CB? I think we might get in 2, one who can immediately go into the team and 1 versatile defender who could possibly play as a full-back/defensive mid, which is why we have shown interest in Gardos, Zambrano and Ilori in my opinion.

I agree we have Kelly who could do this and will most probably be used majorly as a CB next season, but Kelly and Agger are as you know very injury prone. While our medical team has done a fantastic job looking after the likes of Agger, Gerrard and Johnson this year, we surely cannot put all our trust in Kelly and Agger's well-being for the lack of a better word.

The real AG {Ed001's Note - I do think it is likely we will get 2, if we can find the right man for a good price.}

who according to u has been most disappointing player of the season (with a reason!)?
for me its coates he was fit all season, with this being his second season I thought he would be well settled in england and when skrtel lost his place he would step up. but performance against oldham showed his lack of positioning and pace. must be this bad at training cause of not being picked and BR does not rate him. only way for him is out!
LIVERBIRD

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would say downing, yes he has improved but he adds nothing to the team. He should have assited more goals at least yet he always chooses the wrong option.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel, downing, shelvy, and brad jones. for obvious reasons. brad jones wow what a horrible horrible "young" keeper, he is older than reina!

Shelvy is soooooo slooooooooooooow, every thing he does needs 10 hours before it gets done!

Downing, statisticly has 1 goal each 10 games and 1 assist from 6 games. horrible horrible record and that's him having a " great" season

skrtel, every big game we have played him we got F***** by him, even vs OLDHAM the giant club§

coates, assaidi, adorjan, morgan and flanagan need to be shipped out asap!

Reina leaving is horrendous news

Agree0 Disagree0

Shelvey for me. He as talent I think its just a case of getting it out of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Skrtel for me, considering we were talking about him leaving for 18 million in august.

Downing's been hailed as a massive improvement this season yet he is still massively inconsistent and has a limited contribution to the team - he needs selling and replacing sharpish.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry lads but I think Liverpools most dissapointing player this year has been joe allen "by far"he knows br style of play better than anyone else in the squad. skrtel has a tough job and done ok coates hasn't had a chance and even if he played well against oldham still would be benched. downing although not great contributed way more than allen both defending and attacking

observation-

Brendan Rodgers finishes with more points and a higher goal difference than any of Houllier, Benitez or Dalglish had in their first season.

only bad thing this term was the cup runs. but hey we had no squad this season, suso, wisdom, jonjo, sterling can win u a cup at this level.

and add to that the defensive blunders against city, disallowed goal against everton, and 2-0 lead blown up against gooners. some 8 pts.

we r just fraction short of top 4, with much limited squad compared to our rivals chevesky, spurs and gooners.

Why do some people think that we will spend big this summer. think again.
LFC are £80million+ in debt, money has and is being assigned to stadium development. this will cost £150million+ in total.

BR will only be given approx £20million for transfers, any more will have to come from player sales.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And that is exactly what people are assuming copled with the possible sales of Carroll (12M), Skrtel (10M), Reina (10M), Spearing (2M), Assaidi, Pacheco, Wilson and possibly Shelvey it is bound to be around 50-55 million.

I am sure some will disagree with me, but I think that next season Suarez should be played out on the left, with Sturridge playing through the middle, and Coutinho as a CAM. Although Suarez scored a rake of goals playing centrally, I think that by playing him on the left that he will still score plenty, but more importantly the rest of the team won't be trying to do everything through Suarez. I think it will make us play more as a team overall. He will still be able to terrorise defences playing there - we know he has a great footballing brain, and he plays there for Uraguay. It might be a bit of a luxury having him play wide, but what an attacking force we would have. As I say, I can understand why people would want him to play more centrally, but personally I would like to see him playing out wide.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll have Suarez and Sturridge upfront with Coutinho tucked in behind them in a 4-3-1-2 formation

I actually see the trend of the transfer policy:
Buying a weak club's star is more risky, than buying strong club's bench player/underachiever.

Coutinho and Sturridge are good examples of that.
Liverpool underachievers - Caroll, Spearing, Ince, Kuyt - also do great in their clubs.

I would live to see some youth given a chance at the back, Kelly and Wisdom could potentially fill JC boots. Unless they are given a chance we won't find out, we have Agger and Skirts already.

I would like us to get another defensive MF to cover and give Lucas some competition. Also a good LB.

In MF we need to start thinking ahead for SG replacement, we won't have a chance of finding a better player but we have to start.

Continuo has been an absolute revelation for us and our good form has been predominately down to his flair and ability to create chances, if we could find another for the right side we would have a formidable lineup (don't rate downing still despite better performances).

Glen Johnson seems like is heading to Spain this summer. Coates is still hanging in the balance. Downing's future depends on a good offer. While we came out of the season empty handed, which has to be seen as one step backward, we have taken some forward as well. A lot of the high earners have been removed from the books, youngsters blooded and our overall play has improved as the season went on. The worrying thing is that we are still relying too heavily on one player, Suarez, when he is in the team. If he has an off day, then you can pretty much guarantee we won't score. That needs to be fixed, as we have shown we don't need to rely on him. We definitely look more of a threat now, but the defence needs to be tightened up, as that looks dodgy this season.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not sure ed I agree on the if suarez doesn't play we struggle to score. I think it's just the team playing poorly, look how many we scored since he been banned? But I get what your saying if we take away his 25+ goals then we would be so much worse off but so would any team.

Macca said £25m plus sales. tello may come if pepe goes. West Ham and NUFC plus Monaco now 3 way bidding for Caroll.
Assuming the above I think the budget would reach close to 40-50 M.

as coutinho looks brilliant there and seems his best
Position?

Yea - I was wondering: Do we need Eriksen since we already have Coutinho for the CAM position? A wide forward looks more logical

since Reina is pretty sure to leave now, I think if we don't go to Germany for a keeper, Begovic would do nicely. I know Man U, Chelsea ect are after him, but we can guarantee 1st team football, they can't.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chelsea are not after him and his move to Man U looks unlikely as Ed002 points out. he would cost around 15 million pounds and we considered him too expensive, which is why we moved attention to Mignolet and Al Habsi.

Liverpool F. C 2012-2013 Season Evaluation

Hey guys been a while since I posted so I figured I post a evaluation of Liverpool’s season of Rodgers Reign as manager.

Coaching

For me this has been Rodgers biggest asset for us. The massive disappointment of last year's over priced average players that were brought in were transformed under Rodgers. Henderson has started to for-fill his potential especially in 2013 playing in a central role and has even started to score goals. Downing went from one of the worst signings of the season to a starting XI player under Rodgers. Still hasn’t hit the heights he has at villa but has significantly improved. And without a shadow of a doubt Luis Suarez, putting aside non footballing issues has had a brilliant season from being classed as not a natural finisher to a world class player this year and could have won player of the season.

Mentality

Rodgers focuses on youth which surprisingly has been criticised by not only fans but players including Gerrard. In a lot of areas experience has cost Liverpool on and off the pitch not having another natural leader but that is the mentality of the owners and should really benefit in a few years time with suso sterling wisdom kelly all likely to become starting XI players and given the fact we have a very low average wage the future is bright.

Transfers

Ins: Fabio Borini £10,000,000
Joe Allen £15,000,000
Oussama Assaidi £2, 500,000
Daniel Sturridge £12,000,000
Philippe Coutinho £8, 500,000
Sahin

Outs: Fábio Aurélio 0
Dirk Kuyt 1m
Maxi Rodríguez 0
Alberto Aquilani £5,000,000
Craig Bellamy 0
Charlie Adam £4,000,000
Joe Cole 0
Nuri Şahin
Doni 0

I don't know the exact transfer fees so I'm sorry if they’re wrong. Rodgers lack of experience and somewhat naivety was shown in the summer transfer window desperate to get rid of Carroll and failure to capture a striker was a embarrassment so much so the owner had to explain his actions. Rodgers got rid of a lot of players we've been wanting to get of our wage bill for a while cole aquilani especially he's also developed a very young squad out with the old kuyt bellamy in with the new. His signings have done well no question Borini has been unlucky a poor start to the season filled with an injury in the middle and a decent finish to the end its hard to judge how well he will do only time will tell.
Allen started off brilliantly his form has dipped mainly due to fatigue but a good signing if a tad expensive. Assaidi young cheap and has lacked match fitness we haven’t seen much of him hopefully we will next season. Sturridge has been a great signings his selfishness is something he needs to work on but he is a striker and is exactly what we needed great signing. Finally countinho young cheap and talented to say the least hasn’t had a bad game yet could easily be a world beater one day brilliant signing.

Cup Competitions
Early exits across the board disappointing even with the priority on the league and although a few of the youngsters got to play our starting line ups were often strong and we should have gone further in all three competitions.
4th Round Fa Cup Last 32 Europa League 4th Round League Cup
League Performance

Position 7th Wins 16 Draws 13 Losses 9 Goals 71 GC 43 Points 61 A disappointing position 4th was the dream 6th the target 7th not good enough. That being said we earned 9 more points then last season and have solved last years problem of not scoring enough goals. Although were sick of hearing a transitional season that's exactly what this was Rodgers shows promise but will have to deliver next season and make a real push for top 4 to have a long term future with the club he so desires.
Conclusion
Rodgers season has been far from perfect he has made mistakes and some of his tactical decisions were somewhat baffling at the start of the season and credit to him saying that he will be a better manager next season due to the added experience. Overall our results have been disappointing but are performances good and I think long term he will be a very good appointment however a successful transfer window this year is a must for us to push on. Rodgers bought young quality players puts a focus on young and often home grown players however experience should not be overlooked if reina carragher skrtel and downing all go our average of the squad will be around 22 and they should not all be replaced by young players thanks for reading hope I didn't bore you too much!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Borini has been injured basically all season, he started the season, got injured, came back from injury and got injured again, and is just now coming back to match fitness for the first time in bis Liverpool career.
Assaidi looks like a bargaining chip for the summer and I doubt he will be here next season.
We have no idea whether it is Rodgers coaching that has changed these players fortunes although his man management seems to be brilliant.
In terms of transfers last season, Rodgers was left fuming after 'the club' loaned Carroll out and did not give Rodgers the tike or funds to get a rplacement. He did an interview stating that he would never have let Carroll go if he had known he wouldn't be able to replace him.

Great analysis not boring at all. Seems that BR has learned much this season, second half of season so much better than first. And after dare I say it a disastrous summer transfer window last year, he had a brilliant winter window signing two great players for really good fees. So I look forward to the summer window now and start of new season, really hoping BR can keep on going from strength to strength.
Cheers, Hop

Fabio Borini £10,000,000 = Bad Buy
Joe Allen £15,000,000 = Very Expensive.
Oussama Assaidi £2, 500,000 =Price is good
Daniel Sturridge £12,000,000 = Good
Philippe Coutinho £8, 500,000 = Rocking

Agree0 Disagree0

The biggest plus for me with our new manager has to be the youngsters.
Rafa must take a share of credit for that but if you look at the youngsters who have played this year then the future may not be too bad at all.
Wisdom, Kelly, Sterling, Suso, Coutinho,
Shelvey, Henderson, Ibe, Sinclair are all under 21's while Allen, Sturridge, Borini and even Lucas and Suarez are 25 or younger.
That is the nucleus of a good young team. Who knows what they will achieve for us at this moment but I am optimistic about the future even if there is not much to be optimistic about when you look at the table.
I always felt that this season would be hard for us but in my opinion this is short term pain for long term gain.

weakness and now we know where we are heading
What positions in your opinion should we look at improving.

Hi guys, being told McCarthy is Rodgers' preferred GK this summer, mignolet still a target. Eriksen is a very real possibility but Rodgers is looking at all the options first as it seems we don't value him at there asking price. Also downing is on his way out, and if an offer comes for borini he'll be going to, Rodgers is trying to put the funds together for 2/3 top signings that will take us forward.

Begovic or Vorm are the safe bets. Mignolet possible and as a former outfield player his disk button with his feet is pretty good. McCarthy simply hasn't played enough games at a decent level to be considered. Begovic seems to tick the most boxes and of course Stoke planned ahead by signing Butland.

right before a ball is kicked for next season, we are a season better with a new manager and staff and players and systems the team has played, this gives me real hope for next season, I know we are losing players but we will get new ones in and by BRs last 2 signings they could be good signings, were as chelseas, man utd, and everton and man city have all changed managers which means new players and new systems and new back staff that these team will have to get used to, so with a few good signings and a bit of luck we will be in the top 4 easy maybe higher just for the fact we will have a more settled squad

mickey b

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Optimistic, a change in manage isn't going to make any of those teams suffer, especially if chelseas change is jose, he will only make them better, and pelligrini is a fantastic manager and in my opinion better than mancini so don't write teams off based on this.

Hi,

Was at the match to the very end and stayed until all the players were gone today.
Lucas was talking a lot to reina and a but of a hug session and a hand slap was had and reina have all those thay remained above the tunnel entrance a big wave.

Other notable things. Skyrtel seemed distant from the gang with his wife. Also remember him being pretty uninterested with fans back as far as January when he got into a car with a guy looking like hos agent after a match.

Assaidi didn't clap and stood with arms folded when carragher was receiving his presentation from the club.
Other than that everyone seemed happy and Suarez was second last to leave the pitch and was very pally with teammates.

Cheer,
Bommy

Every time I hear Andy Carroll mentioned I get all perky and think "yes £15m that we can invest in players".

its said when just a few seconds later I think "sigh, that's still a £20m loss. "

Shame really, probably the worst buy of the decade. Veron and Torres (for Chelsea) come close

SR

PS: Good finish to the season, hopefully we find more players like Coutinho in summer and we give them time to develop

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ah yes the flop torres, euro medals x 2 its flops like him we could do with

Agree0 Disagree0

Was there a £4 million loan fee paid by west ham and did they pay all his wages while he's been there?.

Agree0 Disagree0

But we made a 25m profit on Torres. And will make about 20m on Suarez. Transfers aren't a science, there are winners and losers. What FSG want is to stack the cards more in our favour by signing players that we have a better chance of flogging on for a profit or players that have lots of improvement in them so we get all the value on the pitch.

If you look at Fergies success at united over the years you can count the true superstars on one hand. The players that carried him to success were all average players playing to their maximum potential (which can only be proven by their decline once they left, apart from forlan & ronaldo). Stars can always be replaced but what is required is a strong group of players who know the way the manager wants to play, who have heart and have a high workrate. Who know their place in the team is not guaranteed, and that they got to play their socks off week in and week out. That is what sets a dynasty apart from a chelsea or man city who buy immediate success, but have to overhaul the squad every few years because the team is too old. If you want long term domination, you need that squad of workers. Liverpool do not require big spending. They just need a squad of young passionate hard working just above average players, a good defence, and 1 or 2 superstars. We're not too far off. With carra, reina, gerrard and downing being the high wage earners, plenty would be soon freed up to throw into the transfer kitty. Its all unfolding very nicely.
The Pirate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Chelsea have had a spine of Cech, Terry, Lampard and Drogba for about 8/9 years, and its only now they are all being moved on to create for a new set of players, so the idea that they overhaul the squad is a ridiculous statement, they may have had many players come in and out but since roman took over they have kept the heart of there team in tact.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2013 23:23:43
Hi there eds and fans, just a quick question to the eds, do you think that fergie not being at the helm next season will really give a better chance to the other teams to go for the title and for us to fight for fourth?
Thanks {Ed023's Note - You never know, we just need to concentrate on our own house and not theirs}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Of course it does.

They've replaced a proven consistent winner with a man who's never won anything in over a decade and in that time has had his fair share of bottom half finishes.

The effect on the team and players as individuals is a loss of confidence and a lack of belief when the chips are down. Confidence and belief are 2 of the factors which make the difference at the high end of sport. When you feel invincible you often are, when you lose that feeling you lose at least 10% in performance.
