r kid has just said in one of the pappers saurez has said he wouldnt leave liverpool for madrid or barca after the support he got from the fans apparently in tomorows papper

Do you meen mine are your kid? but i personnally still say he will stay BostonRedBlox

I hope your right , it would be criminal if we lost him to another team , we need to build the team around him , and a few more uraguians would not go amiss , they are very good , and they did win the copa america , wich had argentina , and brazil , in it , suarez got voted best player and seb coates got voted best young player , beating the likes of neymar from brazil who was nailed on to get it , i dont know why kenny never played him more last season , especialy when agger was injured , the goal he scored was a very good goal by a young center back

20 May 2012 23:47:08
Eds you couldnt be doing a better job here. May I ask, with suarez watching the juve game tonight, would it be reasonable to assume that the suarez/juve deal is as good as done? Not only that, with interest for skrtel from fiorentina, how much interest (granted we have no dof/manager) is there for us bringing Stefan Jovetic back the other way? Cheers lads wonderful job
Fraaaazr {Ed001's Note - because he is watching a game of football? Oh come on!}

Alonso comes back regularly to watch Liverpool but he hasn't signed for us has he?

FSG's business plan has lost the fans. Young rookie managers considered and Kenny sacked.
These alleged businessman's arrogance will come back and bite them. The fans are not the masses who can be manipulated. They are knowledgeable supporters that are the heartbeat of the club. They also pay the wages.
Away with these Yankee fools. Let them stick to baseball, whatever that is ?

What a fool you are , just because they sacked a manager , does not mean they have lost the plot , they paid of a debt that could have finished us as a club , when kenny got the money he would have agreed to get 4th spot , but he bought bad and he has paid the price , one thing you should remember is that the way they sacked both camolli and kenny shows they are ruthless and want the best , they are not satisfied with 2nd best , they want the best , and thats ok with me because it means they want us back at the top , but if you and anyone else that questions the sacking of kenny then look at were we finished , if thats good enough for you and kenny then so be it , but its not good enough for me , i want us to win the prem more than any other competition , if we aim for the top we will get champs league football aswell , but if it was any other manager who left us in 8th after spending stupid money on the likes of downing then you would all call for the manager to be sacked , kenny is a legend at liverpool but i think the job was too big for him , and 8th place showed us that , if we never had a good start we would have been fighting relegation , finishing on the same points as fulham is just not good enough for a club of our status

I would say if they lost fans ...they were not real LFC fans anyway, get a grip and support for christs sake !

Most fans are clueless. Most of them want Rafa back, or Kenny installed forever. What does that tell you?

I'm a fan and I certainly don't know who we should hire, or what will make us successful.

The best people to make these decisions are owners, because they have put their money on the line, and have access to information we don't have.

Wow - it would appear that ignorance is not always bliss.

LIVERPRES

Guys Lets support the club, JW came and rescued us from debts...... lets trust them and trust the manager who is gng to take charge. Lets trust.

Sad for kenny the man that he got finished up as manager but he had to ,in reality if he stayed we would have got worse and i have looked at every possible way of giving him credit , but the home record alone says it all and the then players he bought , the games away at bolton , swansea etc etc , so a big thank you from me to kenny for doing good things for lfc over the years and best wishes to him but he has gone lets look to the future in a positive way , give fsg a chance be sensible do you think they do not want the best mutual benefits they can arrange and we can move on.
red mick tag , ynwa.

If they've lost fans after this long
They were not really fans anyway!!

I know it may be a move that fsg aren't looking at but what would the possibility of getting lucien favre he's worked wonders at monchengladbach

Everybody... relax...RELAX... FSG are doing everything by the book. Let the press run on with their invented headlines. They simply HAD to remove Kenny. Remember what Bill Shankly once said: "First is first, second is nowhere" Christ knows where 8th was on his chart? Our mighty club will grow stronger through all of this, have patience. AVB for LFC.

In kennys FIRST season back.... get a life will you please. NO MANAGER IN HISTORY has won the league in his first season with a club

ps Kenny won it for Blackburn in his SECOND season....plus he had also won it with LFC ......a UK record methinks

Kenny should not have been sacked. FSG have made a hunongous mistake that could ultimately do HUGE damage to our club.

If the new manager doesnt get results FAS...the fans will leave in drones.... and that will be the end of FSG and our club

Sleep well John Henry..... you could just have made the biggest mistake of your life Im afraid

Tel 1949

Step away from the window . . .

Tel , Do you have a KENNY shrine in your home? Because you are doing my head in with constant negativity? It was much better when you posted mostly on the UNited site to wind them up?

Did'nt Mourinho win the BPL in his first season?

Carb

Didn't ancelotti win the league in his first season with chelsea

Arsene Wenger in his first full season !

Tel 1949 here....maybe some of the posters on here are right, I have become a little moaner lately, and for that I apologise.

In my defence your honour, I genuinely do feel that I am in mourning with the loss of kenny... but hopefully with the passage of time I can become the scourge of the united page again....... oh how I miss winding them up.

Onwards and upwards boys... lets wait to see who FSG appoint and lets get 100% behind him. I will now always have one eye open on FSG but rest assured I will try and post some more positive thoughts when Im over the loss of Kenny

20 May 2012 23:24:33
I have just been told by a fairly reliable source that AVB will NOT be the new Liverpool manager. Precise information is proving very hard to obtain and to that end the best he can provide is that the new DoF will be Spanish and that the new manager will have an Ajax connection.

I can only imagine that he means Rafa or Txiki Beguiristain with Van Gaal, De Boer or Laudrup for the manager's role.

As I said it is very hard to get any reliable info from inside Anfield and was wondering if anyone else has heard similar rumours?

20 May 2012 23:23:09
The amount of negativity on this site is sickening , I just only hope none of the potential managers or players get wind of the so called best fans in the world un-educated and un called for slating of anybody linked with a move , I would be surprised if anybody would touch us with the preverbial barge pole . Thank god fans back in the day never treated Bill Shankly to this kind of support .

mc

Amen! The majority of things on this forum now are negative towards potential players and managers. Also current players, Suarez has gone to watch a game! Juventus haven't made an approach no one has. Who are they to deal with? Suarez is an assets for any potential manager!

DontDrink&Type

Couldn't agree more mate, it has been ridiculous the amount of negativity on here lately. People are slating FSG and there haven't even been any developments yet, just sit tight and keep the faith people. We're known as the best fans in the world for a reason, now lets live up to that and get behind our team.

AVB to named new pool manager within 4days and carra to be his number 2 source works at anfield ticket office.

20 May 2012 23:12:39
AVB is now 8/13 and Martinez gone out to 4/1 Rafa has gone out to 8/1 and Laudrup has gone from 10/1 to 28/1 in the last hour . Oh well that my £10 gone lol

The betting odd's always change! not that the bookie's know anything just people putting money on!

20 May 2012 23:11:36
Oh how people's views change, this time last year people on this site were saying how much they would love avb to manage us, now because of an ill fated spell at Chelsea that would never work , he is a bad manager?
Wouldn't mind seeing him appointed tbh, better than Martinez
Jbplfc

Has no one seen the football martinez has got poor players playing at wigan I know they was fighting relegation blah blah blah! but towards the end they was awesome, He could do a job at liverpool its just he would need time.

ACHILLES.

Achilles mate any manager given time will do good job but liverpool fc and the owners don't have time coz we need champions league money in oder to build new ground we are already behined compare to our rivals and time is money to our owners. Let's say martinez takes 3/4 years to bring champions league football in 3/4 will lose a lot of money due to champions league damage our reputation as mid table and lose sponsorship money due to mid table ed1 your opinion is welcome

20 May 2012 23:11:28
right lads, there's definitely some heavy heavy things happening behind the scenes like.

No way would we even begin the process of interviewing managers without a Director of Football involved, as he will be responsible for and have to work closely with the head coach. So surely we have one lined up?

And an interesting thing Ian Ayre said in his last interview was that even his job would be divided up and someone would be helping him.

He also said the owners are being advised by some experienced, knowledgable football people [plural], so presumably both these positions have been sorted and we're just waiting for the announcement.

We've all seen the pictures of David Dein with Ian Ayre, so i'm guessing he's the one who's helping him out. And the only experienced and knowledgable DoF out there is Txiki Begiristain..

Sorry for the long post lads and if i'm wrong and wrong. But just using the info we have and reading between the lines I think this could be the scenario.

Anyway if it is these two coming in then i'd be made up! The men who saw the potential in Wenger and Guardiola surely won't go too far wrong!

Thanks.

Meant available DoF out there sorry lads. obviously there are some pretty good ones who are already employed.. haha

It is a massive time for the club , The whole background structure is being reshaped ( CEO / DOF) then we have a new manager and maybe assistant / coaches. I am Mr impatient ( according to the wife ) but i understand that patience is called for . Get these people in place ,some new signings and go again as a Team. Keep the Faith YNWA

AVB looks a done deal lads. Announced this week I would expect.

Hearing he wants to raid Porto and bring in Moutinho, and wants to sign Falcao from Atletico

Whats he using for payment the Drachma

20 May 2012 23:05:49
When the dust Settles and Liverpool appoint a manager, where to then?

According to Steve McManaman FSG Liverpool's owners are going to impose Austerity on the team

How will that work?

The ponderer

Out of every dark dawn comes a bright morning however its hard to see that morning coming unless FSG f*ck off?

Is that the same McManaman who ripped the club off so he could have bigger pay day... the Everton fan! What does he know!?

He did not rip the club off and its not always the players fault that they leave, ie torres.

Mcmanaman is a money grabbing T**T just like Owen and Torres! they all got in the same boat!

20 May 2012 23:04:05
Looks like there will be lots of lfc news in the papers tomorrow avb to be named as manager shortly and Suarez to make a move to Italy before the euros

20 May 2012 23:02:52
First of all, we need to keep the faith in Suarez. Remember lads, he's said he's happy here. Us fans are 110% with him and who would let that go? Also, he's got 3 years left in contract. 20m would be the cost if he would have 1 yr left, but 3 years would require atleast 10m buy out. And as he's not prolific (hate to say it lads but he isn't) who would pay 30-40 million for a non prolific striker?

Okay, I've had my rant. I reckon Ramirez, A Johnson and Luuk De Jong must be at the top of priority list (except for manager of course). If Skrtel is sold, we should try for Lugano (if Suarez stays it seems that we can have any Uruguayan we want) or maybe Naldo (sounds rediculous but he would work well) as we can't seem to convert from corners and he's a massive lad.

You've heard it here first
LFCharlie

You say suarez is not prolific , well for a start look at his goal scoring stats at his other clubs , he has missed 9 games on the bounce , he should have been the top scorer in the copa america , wich had in the likes of messi , and aguero and other top players , then look at how many times he has hit the bar or post or the goalies have made great saves from him , add the fact he never really had a break in the summer , and you will see a player who was tired and had to make his own chances and had missed a lot of games , so he lost his match sharpness , ffs give the man a chance , if he gets decent service instead of making having to make the chances himself then you will see a player who can and will score a lot of goals , with the right players to help him and create a few chances for him , i can see him being the top scorer or near to the top of the goals scoring chart next season , why dont you mention the chances he has made for other players , or say when he is one on one with the goalie he usually scores , or do you just want to look at the bad parts of his game this season , his record in goal scoring speaks for itself , try googleing it before you come out with utter rubbish , no one at our club had a decent season this season , even skertal who was very good stiill had a few bad games ,

Lugano's too old mate he's pushing 32.

20 May 2012 23:00:30
ok liverpool fc are a company run by fsg, so are we the fans the customers. ie we buy the product. shirts, merchandise, gate sales etc.. any other company especially the one i work for have to listen to the customers and do everything in their interest to keep the customer happy, just basic business really.. customer always right and that.. just food for thought..

Yes but if they let the fans often differ in opinion and by this they will never make all the fans happy ( New manager) and if by listening to the fans they make a wrong decision then the fans will have a go at them for being so stupid to give into fans that can only see whats happening from an outside view and don't know all the facts. -McMenemy

The problem is, many of these customers are only happy when they're angry.

JB

The customer is always right? Ask that question of anybody that has a job in sales, whether it be cars, houses, fake dog poo, or anything. The customer is NOT always right.

suarez is going, but looking back how many prem games did we win when he came back from suspension, not many.luis was pleasing to the eye for many reds but life will go on and we could make a few bob on his original transfer fee,he was always gonna go in the end most south americans get itchy feet when the big guns in italy and spain start calling so lets get on with it....WE'LL BE BACK

Hello ed(s) was wondering if anyone is tracking Thorgan Hazard? Eden's little brother. looks like a decent prospect

South African YNWA {Ed022's Note - I will try and find out for you mate.}

Thank u
much appreciated

South African YNWA {Ed001's Note - Spurs have been tracking Thorgan for years mate.}

20 May 2012 22:53:59
Somebody posted about ian holloway before i commented on the original post but was wondering if the eds or any reds know if he is actually on fsg long-shortlist as i would prefer him to the likes of martinez cheers CRAIG {Ed022's Note - I suspect he is not on the list unfortunately.}

20 May 2012 22:53:25
Hi eds,
do you think we would be better off with AVB over Martinez in the sense of attracting players? {Ed022's Note - AVB all day long.}

20 May 2012 22:51:26
Just got a text off my bro. He heard avb will be appointed next manager tues or Wednesday, hope to god he's wrong!

So the 10 who disagreed you want a Chelsea reject to take over at Anfield? who only lasted 6 month's at the bridge? some people are easily pleased! In Rafa we trust!

20 may 2012 22:45:28
most liverpool fans just like create worries for themselves.a player has come out and said he is happy at the club just a few days ago.now you see him in another teams stadium watching a match and then u make up rumours about him leaving. why not wait till we have a manager before you start doing the selling? seriously am getting sick of all this.he is a player,so should he lock himself up because if he goes to a restaurant in manchester someone will spot him and start a rumour he is signing for united.the most annoying thing is when they act like they are so sure or have some inside info.dont worry the ed"s with your made up stories

20 May 2012 22:44:48
Hi all,

From the cryptic message I received from my source at the Liverpool fan shop , our next manager will indeed be Alex Mcleish, having recently been released from Aston Villa.

Heard it here first.

If true I will gauge my eyes out

Well, with every cryptic message you need something called a cypher to the coded message... I suggest yours is broken!

20 May 2012 22:38:51
the fact of the matter is that if luis suarez leaves we are well and truly finsihed in terms of attempt to gain trophies, hes our main source of goals and seeing as we are lacking in those we would be hit quite bad hopefully a new manager would be appointed just in time to quash any exits from any of our top player, but in thinking about things if the owners want to generate money why dont they get rid of the dead weight like joe cole,aquilani,adam,kuyt,d wilson,doni /all those with high wages which could generate money from their sale,thus generating income to buy 1 or two good quality players, whats your opinion eds {Ed022's Note - My opinion is Suarez would never be sold if it were based on ability.}

{Ed022's Note - My opinion is Suarez would never be sold if it were based on ability.}
==============================================
So what you saying he might be sold based on attitude and reputation.

What would I do if I was in FSG's skin?..
1. Sing AVB
2. as ridicilous as is sounds: sell 2-3 key players (most likely Suarez and Skrtel, maybe Agger) for ''big money''
3. Sell all those who disapointet: Downing, Adam, Spearing...
4. give an extra 40min buget + money from singings to AVB (that he can make his ideas true); I belive he'll buy atleast 2 star players, around which we'll build our team + some young prospects
5. belive in AVB's project, not like in chelsea

I think he'll know what to do ;)

regards Luka {Ed022's Note - Why would you 'Sing AVB'? How would that help?}

I'm sure it would be a catchy little number!!

Lyndon

Very Simple

If you sing something you are more likely to get it the law of attraction {Ed022's Note - *starts singing* French Maid, French Maid.}

We wanna keep our best players not sell them you tool.

I believe the above post is a busker every little penny counts

gee man

{Ed022's Note - Why would you 'Sing AVB'? How would that help?}
==========================

Maybe by singing for AVB can make him a better manager , you never know !?
Altogether now
AVB its easy as
443 , as simple as
do re mi, AVB, 443
Charlie Stevie and Carroll

Ed1 in your honest opinion(real world) do you think it will take time to challenge top4 even with fsg as our owners coz when they bought us my hops were sky high but looking from outside it looks tough may be its not easy as we fans think {Ed001's Note - of course it will do, it was stupid of them to expect it this season, we are light years away from having a squad to challenge for the top 4.}

AVB Fa So La Ti Do....

Risby.

AVB? Wasnt that the Jackson 5?

AK

20 May 2012 22:42:54
The club appears to losing its focus and is in danger of drifting to a mid table team,no manager or structure in the backroom, senior players rumoured to be leaving and owners who are showing inexperience in the English game. Can things get any worse? Boys i need some positive news please.macca or ed have you got anything good.

I think it's the posters on here who are losing their focus

And not FSG ??...get a grip... Kenny should NOT have been sacked after his first season...end of!

That one act alone demonstrates their inexperience. Christ even Kean kept his job at Blackburn and they went down !!

Tel 1949

So Tel you were waiting for us to get relegated before you asked for Kenny to leave?

And Blackburn is going to suffer for it horribly, Tel. I used to love your posts, but since Kenny has left you've been nothing but a downer and a moaner - buck up, we have positions to fill and football to watch, and a team to support!

McSnuggles

20 May 2012 22:30:53
Hi ED's

I understand FSG's philosophy on the financial side of the game eg: why buy 1 striker for £35million that can only get u 6 goals for the season when u can buy 3 strikers at £10million each and they can get u 30 goals between the 3 of them. I think Pardew showed the EPL that buying smart instead of buying big can still work out. I hope our next manager, whoever it may be, is a master tactician and pulls the team together.

20 May 2012 22:29:34
Yes Suarez may have been at the Juventus game and yes he most probably will leave but has anyone thought he could be there to see his close mate Edinson Cavani win a trophy?

20 May 2012 22:29:31
Wud love avb or pep and bring in cavini alffey and munian then we wud be back in top four do u reckon anychance ed or am i dreaming

Wake up!!

20 May 2012 22:29:30
Suarez was at Juve Napoli game because Cavani is his BEST friend.

Please post eds.

20 May 2012 22:27:28
Honestly. I'll take anybody over AVB, just don't want him anywhere near LFC I get it that good players are not necessarily good managers but i would like my club manager to at least have played the game at a reasonable level this guy hasn't, how can a guy whose never played the game have the tactical guile and understand premier league players, if they install him we'll be doing this again 2 yrs max.
stevieH

Look at Jose Mourinho. Not played at a reasonable level. Usefull manager.

The games constantly changing, i honestly wouldn't be suprised if they're more managers in the future who've never played pro ball.

Well said stevieH! In Rafa we trust!

20 May 2012 22:27:06
Eds,
Im wondering is the protocol installed by fsg with regards to the new manager situation is common? I mean asking a bunch of managers to be "interviewed" and wait for a decision afterwrds! I dont think any self respecting top class manager would accept that! Even other managers who are contracted to other clubs have a major risk to there reputation among there fans specially if they dont get the american "okay" ... And bad rep infront of media if there turned down....is this way of hiring a manager a correct one! Doesnt it damage our chances in getting the best manager out there?! Ur thoughts eds plz!
Thanx {Ed001's Note - normally there is a proper shortlist and only a few get an interview. This situation is ridiculous, they should have some kind of idea of who they want and only interview those. Instead they seem to just be interviewing anyone and everyone, it is embarrassing.}

To be honest ed the amount of rejections etc. must of narrowed the list down ? so you have any new updates etc. on it ? {Ed001's Note - no sorry, nothing new on it today at all.}

20 May 2012 22:17:56
How is a footballer can never go watch a game of football without all this. If he goes let him go if he is at the juve game they're not just going to ignore him f they're interested. Our club is far bigger than one player fed up of everyone claiming we're doomed without him.

Fsg need to sort manager out ASAP before it gets out of hand. Not the liverpool way they have gone about getting a new manager the press is having a bearing on who chooses in because of the situation we find ourselves in.

Lets go for Zidane as DOF and Deschamps as manager. kendoddsdadsdog.

Zizu is at real madrid

20 May 2012 22:13:01
Over the last 3 days I have thought about every candidate. They are either too old or risky. Only one stands out who can stabilise the club. A safe pair of hands who wants to be there. Too many questions about the others. Far less about one.
Rafael Benitez. {Ed001's Note - what is safe about Rafa? People live in a fantasy world and forget just how bad he was.}

Agreed ed rafa was a liability which people seem to forget

Stop with the bring bk rafa .... yes he got us the CL buts that all we need a fresh new and positive approach bring in some young blood or a unknown like wenger was

RAFA is about as safe as TNT

Ed 001 you are completely right, really don't understand the want for Rafa.
MIKEYRED

Stop with the bring bk rafa .... yes he got us the CL buts that all we need a fresh new and positive approach bring in some young blood or a unknown like wenger was
====================================================

I dont want Rafa back, the past is the past, but for me his legacy is not winning the CL with less than half decent squad , or winning the FA cup , its 86 points , our highest number of points in the premier league years, under different owners , probably Alonso would've stayed another year and god knows what could've happened.
Roy

You have another ally on that issue here ed001. The

BJH YNWA

And you eds seem to forget how good he was

20 May 2012 22:09:49
By the time a new manager joins, all our best players will have been approached by other teams, and be submitting transfer requests.

Thanks a lot FSG for turning our beloved club into nothing more than a joke, you really are a clueless bunch.

Has anybody submitted any transfer request?

20 May 2012 22:06:16
Rafa and Carra anyone?

Total nightmare.

Is that like for a date dude?

20 May 2012 22:05:35
Suarez is at Juve/Napoli game to....support his international teammates Cavani and Gargano (hopefully).

Why can't Juve just stick with Higuain?

SLURed

20 May 2012 22:05:27
If Suarez want to go, Que Sera, Sera... as long as it's not after a statment saying he loves Liverpool and wiht a picture of him sleepign with a liverpool duvet! That's what does my head in... say it how it is!

If the Ozil thing is true... he's a prospect - It's always good to have a few Germans in your team!

20 May 2012 22:05:17
Hi ed's Is Luis Suarez defo at juventus game? If so I think he is on his way out...... GUTTED!

Matt {Ed001's Note - who cares? He is on his holidays, he is watching football, what difference does it make?}

Hi ed's
Was'nt Alonso and Cavani at Anfield earlier last season watching their mates playing. THEY never came and signed for us,so why would Suarez sign for somebody else. Until the news is posted on the official LFC site of any movement regarding players--just dismiss rumours as what they are--rumours.

Tafred {Ed022's Note - Why are you telling us? We aren't stupid mate.}

20 May 2012 22:04:11
If luis Suarez does leave I will not travel over 200 miles to come and watch this club anymore sick to death of paying my hard earned money I love Liverpool football club and followed em since 78 but this is it enough is enough first Torres and I don't care what anyone says if they wanted Torres to stay they could have done a bit more. Then king kenny after 18 months they sack him yes SACK him if that is how u treat a man that has done more for lfc than anyone at our club then good help us. I know fsg got us out the s**t but I have no faith I this COMPANY? . I hate turning on sly sports and waiting to hear more crap about our once biggest club in

if luis is not there to support a fellow uruguayan in cavani obv he there for a wee move , but lets face it we stood behind him big time!!! he shud honour that, but south americans are the worst 4 itchy feet ,We dont stand to gain a thing! we would receive 25-30mil for him but would cost that to replace him as he is such a class footballer, imagine quality players around him, ( i mean up top n midfield apart from stevie g) , i for one would be gutted if he went

go to be honest here lads I remember the days of watching the internet non stop hoping and waiting for Rafa to be removed, I respect him for what he did in the champions league and I respect him for the help he gives to the Hillsborough fund but another one coming back?...Really?..........does everyone forget the bad substitutions, the players constantly played out of position, the meddling with the side every other week, the negativity, the losing out of mind games to Fergie not to mention going to a side in Inter Milan who at the time were as good as anyone in the world and completely horlicksing the job up??..........Well i do and unless hes learnt a lot of lessons im saying we dont need to go back...oh i forgot no wingers, never any wingers grrrr!..............
I know he loves the club but please lets get this sorted sharpish and get behind whoever comes in now........Personally i dont trust that snake Ayre....he needs taking out of the club for me hes bad news.........just my own opinion........

Ed 001, who would you like to get the manager's job realistically, and do you honestly think that fsg have shown us their hand now. Thanks, Red Man. {Ed001's Note - Borrell and no, I think they are still unsure what they are going to do to be honest.}

Ok thanks for your input, i was just feeling a a bit worried that these americans aren't all they seem. {Ed001's Note - they just need better advice.}

20 May 2012 14:09:45
ed001 this ones for you.. if you had the power to employ a 'realistic' manager for lfc, who would it be and why?
thanks {Ed001's Note - Borrell, because there is no one out there, realistically, who offers any more than he does.}

Ed001 you want him to bring through the youth don't you. your mouth is watering.

Just wanted to ask ed01 since he is a lfc fan. Now that klopp is out of the running who do you think.is the most likely. And most importantly who would you prfer. Would be nice if you replied. Thanks
Great site and great job you lot do.

Simon hill {Ed001's Note - I don't think Klopp was ever likely, I have no idea who is likely to get it though. Personally I would prefer Bielsa, but that's not going to happen, so I would like to see Borrell given the chance.}

Right for the record!

Rafa in his first season finish 5th then 3rd then 3rd then 4th then 2nd and his last season 7th not forgetting what we did in CL!

If he had been givin the money in 2009 /10 I think we could have won the prem!

Yes he got to big for his boots! Yes we played some boring football at times!! But he was still a great great Liverpool Gaffa and we was winning!

They say never go bad ( my a@@ ) if we want to get back to the top we need him!

Stop thinking of all the Mourinho want to be! Remember Mourinho "the special one" ok! he had 5 times the money Rafa had and we beat chelsea time and time again!!

SOS RAFA
Thanks ed

OMG shut up already about Rafa!!

Hes not coming back!!!!

The second coming of RAFA

It will be like some religious expereince - no doubt

A man casting an imposing figure against a black shadowy sunset

Next his goatee apears

And a big soothed smile

But wait
What about those hoofed feet and what about those horns

I always knew it Rafa is bloody Satan

20 May 2012 21:36:17
Why are you all in a flap that Suarez is at the Juventus V Napoli game? He is very close to Cavani and has previously gone to the Chelsea V Napoli game so why is this different? He is on his holidays and has obviously chose to do that with his time. SUAREZ IS GOING NOWHERE!

Very very well said pal :)

If reports are true, Fsg are reverting back to buying cheap young players with a sell on value. If Surez dosen't see an improvement in the squad ie challenging for CL he will be off.
We will win nothing the way FSG are setting their stall out. I think at the start of the season Kennny looked at the possibility of gaing a CL spot, and decided to go for the domestic cups. This pass and move game will win us nothing, we need to mix it, it works sometimes but not all of the time. Bayern, Barcelona, two of the best pass and move teams in Europe failed, Man City just scrapped the Title against a lowly QPR. All these teams have class players, but when you have 11 men behind the ball it makes things very difficult. The game has change the last couple of years, the top 5 or 6 teams are fighting for CL football the rest are fighting the possibility of relegation, I think next season will see more of back against the wall tactics (not being deragative) of the lesser teams
We have had one of our best seasons for years, by that I mean in context of entertaining attacking football, but where did it gets us, 8th and Kenny the sack. I agree most of Rafa's teams were boring, but it got results .

Martinez to be next manager. Suarez will leave to play champions league football, Juventus is an option but it is obvious he wants to play for Real/Barca. We are not a top
team anymore and won't be for years/if ever. We can't compete with the top 5 anymore financially and the
Americans will not spend their own money. Gutted but are glory days are well and truly over.

I think FSG has just realised they have bitten off more than they can chew, they can't compete with the likes of City, Utd and Arsenal. I also think this cost cutting is to show aprofit next season,To make it more attractive in a sell off or part sell off

For what it's worth I doubt the owners are going to go backwards again. They went with Kenny as he could unite fans and was a popular choice, it seems clear the owners made the choice for Kenny to placate fans and try build some good feeling again. It went wrong for them when he did so well as it was hard to move him on last year. These people will not make that mistake again, Rafa does not have the same backing Kenny had and having been taken off track by popular support for Kenny, the owners will go the way they feel is right. I expect AVB, young and keen, he comes across well and the Chelsea situation will have given him the opportunity to reflect and develop as a professional, Lets just hope whatever happens it works out if it fails we are screwed. Keep the faith and support whoever they put in, and remember the newspapers are full of lies to sell papers, lets wait and see.

Sorry Ed. But I had atwitch when Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee came to town. Now I've got another one. We should have gone with the Chinese investment arm. These pair obviously know nothing about our club, our history, our passion for LFC. If we don't get rid now, we'll be looking at mid-table at best. Relegation at worst. Don't say it will never happen to us? Look at Leeds Utd. MASSIVE,HUGE club. Doesn't mean jack at the end of the day. WE NEED MAJOR CASH INJECTION. Not what they're proposing. It has to be Pep. Please. Nobody else with enough heart,passion,desire, out there. WE WANT PEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {Ed002's Note - There was no Chinese investment arm.}

If Suarez wants to leave then so be it. He's a wonderful footballer and has potential to be one of the best in the world. But if he doesn't show any appreciation for the club that stuck by him during his constant attitude problems, his lengthy ban and the hand shake incident then he can go. We'll struggle to replace his guile and devilish dribbles, but his finishing and greed can be very frustrating.

We could be in for a turbulent summer given what's happened so far, but so be it that's football. We're LFC and we never do anything the easy way.

Papa G

Spot on mate. We could receive about £30m+ for him, and use that money to sign two quality players (e.g. Luuk De Jong & Markel Susaeta).

Why do you guys want Rafa back? I am 18 so my memory of the glory days under rafa are very limited due to being about 12 when we won the champions league, and not as many sites to watch the game online from the states. What I do remember were his negative tactics at the end of his regime where he played to not lose, instead of playing to win. I also remember most of Liverpool wanting his head. Guys is my memory faulty or has time made you guys forget. p.s. I want AVB

hey macca, do u think that it will be rafa?
Rafa's been very quiet on the subject....nothing on his web site. he usually responds to fans emails with "kenny is manager, lets support him & the team" though he has not responded to any emails sent since kenny's sacking.
i've also heard that rafa's chief scout & g/keeper coach have been re-hired.
kenny also came out a few weeks ago praising rafa for the academy etc...
and now i read that reina has hinted that he will be working with rafa again??

probably wishful thinking on my part, but surely his cv compares favouribly compared to martinez and dare i say AVB

20 May 2012 20:54:33
I reckon the Eds should make a prospective manager list in the menu and move people from 'still possible' to 'ruled out'.

I've constructed a core:

STILL POSSIBLE
Allegri, Deschamps, Benitez, Capello, Ancellotti, Nicol, Laudrup, Bielsa, Klinsman, Villas-Boas, Martinez, Rijkard, Pardew.

RULED OUT
Kean, Rodgers, Klopp, Guardiola, Mourinho, Lambert, Redknapp, O'Neill, de Boer.

RED LENIN

Why has steve kean been ruled out lol he maybe the only one prepared to give it a go

We'll be looking at the cheaper end I think - Klinsman, Nicol, Laudrup, Nicol, Martinez, Benitez, Villas-Boas. Low compensation to current club or currently unemployed.

You haven't "constructed a core" you've just listed some names, some of which are ridiculous by the way

Lets see your list of possible candidtes then.

Actually these are the most commonly mentioned names in the newspapers. If you care to spend 2-3 hours going through all the archived newspaper, BBC, ITV, Sky Sports stories since Dalglish was sacked (as I did) you will end up constructing a similar list. Good luck - it's very tedious and I doubt you have the stamina. RED LENIN {Ed001's Note - Rijkaard ruled himself out did he not? Plus he has already been rejected once by FSG, why would they want him this time around?}

Anyone in a tracksuit is still a possible.
Don't think them Yankees! Know what their doing.
kidmillions

Ancelloti if that lists correct

Here are a few of my thoughts on AVB.

I don't think AVB is exactly a manager on the lower end of the targeted managers, or a 'cheap option' as some have suggested. Didn't Chelsea pay £15m to get him?

He could demand an excellent wage and many teams would love him to manage them - he's a manager in demand - the others are not so much.

AVB is looking a frontrunner for the job - Whilst he is not my first choice - I'd be very happy with his appointment.

(My other favourites, such as deBoer and Klopp - were always pretty unrealistic tbh, though I still hold a little glimmer of hope for de Boer, silly as it may be.)

We all have our little preferences.

For my sins, I'm a 442 lover - I will defend it's merits to the death.

The best team I ever saw were Ajax 94/95 though. There are arguments for many systems.

For example - Capello's Milan. 442.
Take that Cruyff!

See.

I recognise that many of our playing staff were brought up playing 442 and their natural positions as a result are in a 442. (Downing in the 'Messi' role in a 433 being one example of a man totally unsure of himself, or what his role is... the thought of Adam deployed as our 'Busquets' - as happened on occasion this year - is also enough to make me wince.)

But, forget all that - if AVB arrives, I will learn to trust in his ways - it would be refreshing to have a set philosophy, especially an attack-minded one...

Chopping and changing systems does not allow a player to grow into a role in the team - or to build relationships on the pitch - I found this frustrating this season.

I've always believed in the old adage - 'Don't worry about the opposition, let the opposition worry about you'.

I reckon the likes of Borrell, Segura etc will surely identify with his methods too.

Imo, the Academy/U18's/Reserves should all play the system the first team play, so the transition to the first XI is easier.

This approach should be the norm, as with Ajax & Barca.

Not having a fixed system for the first XI in recent times has not allowed this to be the case.

With a young manager like AVB in it for the long-haul - and a fixed/set system from top to bottom - it could be of great benefit to the youngsters to know what will be expected of them when they get their chance to shine.

It certainly won't do any harm.

Don't expect me to be here screaming for a 442 if AVB arrives. It won't happen.

My point is that quite a few of our current squad may not fit into his vision (of an attacking 433) - so if he is employed, he should not be overencumbered by unrealistic expectations of an 'instant top 4' nature.

AVB can either mould a player to fit his system - or get rid of those who do not/cannot adapt to fit his system, they were not his signings after all - it is only natural he will scrutinize which of our current personnel fit in his vision, or if they fit at all.

This will take time, which brings me to my final point.

Improving on 52 points will likely be the lowest (and entirely achievable) objective for the coming season.

If AVB were to succeed at that - I will go out on a limb and say he will continue beyond the coming season. (the same for whoever comes in)

Whoever it is, he will be given time to implement his philosophy - no doubt in AVB's case, his Chelsea experience will have made him wary of the prospect of being replaced on a whim if he doesn't hit the ground running...

(I'm sure Chelsea fans don't mind after last night. I hate Chelsea, so it pains me to say well done ed002)

I'd say in any interview AVB had with LFC, he would have stressed this point
(That such transitions - the implementation of a philosophy in all levels of the club - take time.)

FSG originally intended for a younger boss - the reason being to build to a long term plan.

If it's AVB, he's a very young man - be gentle and give him time. I feel he could do great things.

I love that he has a fixed, attacking philosophy, as will Liverpool fans.

They demand it.

He could build an Empire.

BJH YNWA (long and rambling, sorry)

ps - As for a high defensive line -

Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique.

You'd struggle to find a quicker back 4 in the league, or a better suited goalkeeper to play this system.

If he does arrive - Carra should be worried though.

ED001 - They are the core candidates in the papers. Rijkard therefore can be moved from one list to the other. Over the coming days the list of people still speculated willl shrink and by the end of the week will probably consist of no more than 2-3 names.

I'm not sure where these stories about budget cuts etc have come from, but so far the owners have been true to their word.Don't belive the bdaily rags they report utter nonsense 99.9 % of the time. There's no way there will be an 'exodus' of players and small funds for transfers. These guys want to win first make money second. Martinez is interview fodder AVB is most likely. He will be given money and time as Kenny was.Just my thoughts......

Totally right, far too much made up rubbish coming out lately. If we believed all the press nonsense then we're totally skint and are ruined for the next ten years at least.

To all of these people saying and worring that Suarez is going to leave (which is more than likely) dont need to worry because I am sure whoever the manager will be, they will realise that all that they have up front is Carroll, and so they will get a replacement, just like we did with Torres two Janruary's ago and we will have around thirty million pounds to spend on a player who can score goals, and that is what Suarez isn't, a goalscorer

MegaMelwood

Sure he's not a goal scorer! 159 goals in 282 games with 53 assists and 26 goals in 52 games for uruguay. He's only 25 find me someone better for the same money.

And here's the proof that Luis isn't a goalscorer.

2005“2006 Nacional 27 (10)
2006“2007 Groningen 29 (10)
2007“2011 Ajax 110 (81)
2011“Liverpool 44 (15)

Uruguay 52 (26)

martinez is good or bad i dont care, how he saves wigan from the drop every time i dont care, JUST TELL ME HAVE WIGAN MOVED FORWARD EVEN A STEP OR 2?
im not talking abt them in top 6, they have their problems, limited sources ,yup but within it , WHAT WORK MARTINEZ HAS DONE THERE IN PAST 2 N HALF YEARS?

the scenario has been same, they struggled whole season, n had to some how claw their way back . had he been a good manager (if not great) history wouldn't have repeated it self this year. neither technically not mentally or position wise there is any remarkable work martinez has done.

may be there have been some positive approach, or good tactics some times...but 2 years with a club n there isnt anything to show only that he managed to avoid the drop but wasnt he the manager when they struggled their way to bottom?
a team like aston villa, was tipped for the drop beginning of the season, some how managed it can take him ,yup would be a good thing for villa but aren't we were talking abt winning n top 4 ?

is martinez really the man then? mr. henry r u listening ?

mayurr

Wigan were an established mid-table club before Matinez arrived. In his three seasons they always ended up scrapping to get out of the drop zone.

Martinez is a great manager because he keeps Wigan in the prem despite having to reorganise his squad every window because they lose their best players. He replaces these players with upcoming talent on a budget and brings the best out of them. What could he do with some money to spend and some established quality to work with, and some squad stability?

Again the same no money no sources crap, man in not talking abt them fighting for league or top 4 finish , its abt improvement abt moving forward footballing wise.

foe eg. look at Newcastle, swansea or WBA they didnt fought for title , but you can see that manager has done some work.
wigan was no where ,if de santos had not peaked at right time , the would have been dead , n point is not that he is not good or not, POINT IS ,
HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR LIVERPOOL.

ed whats your opinion of nigel adkins of southampton got them playing some good football.used to play for us as a youth player.DORSET RED {Ed022's Note - Adkins has done well with Southampton, but we will see his true ability next season in the Premier League.}

20 May 2012 19:47:41
looks like capello and ABV is the 2 name in the net now.

20 May 2012 19:44:05
Hi ed (s) there seems to be 2 schools of thought surrounding AVB.1) he's a great manager because of the job he did at Porto or 2) he's tactically inept. Poor training sessions and a bad man manager. What do you think? {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

20 May 2012 19:42:15
We need a Manager who work better with young player. we have very good young talent in Academy don't waste it.Pep have the brave to play young player Capello do that for england too. Van Gaal can be the one. AVB is rocking in porto but he fall in politics in chelsea. so hard to say about him.

hi just a quick question all the talk on kenny spending over 100 million?? with the sale of torres,meireles and all the players that was on high wage going how much has come back into the club and what has actually gone out? {Ed002's Note - There are gross and net figures I am sure you can Google but don't forget the other costs the owners have paid.}

You wont be spending big money for a long time,i said the other day fsg will do the same as Randy Learner has done at villa tighten the purse strings read todays mirror its all there in black and white exactly what i said, transfer budget slashed wage bill to be slashed bye bye saurez skirtel.

Yea cos everything the news papers report is gospel and must be taken so they have never ever lied or made up stories to sell papers i repeat never

The reason the mirror print these stories is because they trawl these sites where halfwits post bulls**t and they are so stupid they beleive it. If everyone could differentiate between football manager and real life we might get rid of bone idle journalists and get some real news.

20 May 2012 19:38:03
Torres left Liverpool because he wanted to win the CL. Now that he achieved his ambition he wants to leave. Juventus might come in for him.

He didnt say he wanted to leave Chelsea, He said he wants to have talks and see if he will be guaranteed more starts next season

Give his agent a copy of Glen Johnson's contract... ;-)

20 May 2012 23:27:07
Ambition acheived? hardly mate, one unhappy bunny I would say.

Chelsea may tell Fernando Torres to go

Hey Eds, is it possible for Roma to go back in for AVB? According to an Italian newspaper, theyre having trouble with Montella's wage demands and Catania actually letting him go?

Thanks

i have posted this question over 6 times now and has not been posted for some strange reason i wonder why ??? ok well my question is why o why are the eds so anti-liverpool as it really seems this way to me ? {Ed002's Note - You can't be referring to me. I am the Ed who has been explaining that Liverpool have good responsible owners who should have the support of the fans. The posters here are the ones who come on week after week demanding all the players are sold, then demanding Dalglish is sacked, then complaining when he is and now saying they don't trust the owners. So who is "anti-Liverpool"?}

When u didn't do well no one support you. Byarn play good football but lost CL final so Muller Robben all is not a hero now. Liverpool have do well in epl.

I agree with Ed, If you came on here at the end of the season it was "sack Dalglish and move on" now its " why did we sack Dalglish?" It is almost as if were never happy -McMenemy

I'm with Ed002 on this one.

Haha how are any of the eds anti-liverpool. Are you failing to read what the fans are posting?

Well said ED002, i don't know why people slate him.. he is a very straight forward and honest guy. just cut him some slack ffs

Can someone explain Macca's last post? It doesn't make any sort of sense to me...

BthekingB

Pretty obvious really, he was clearly watching the final last night and had memories of Istanbul, hence the comment "makes you want rafa back"

He was talking about the champions league final game yesterday...saying that it makes him want rafa back

He was referring to Chelsea winning the Champions League, making you wish Rafa was back, i think

KoPeNdFaN

20 May 2012 18:56:01
This is just a hunch ....Rafa back as manager and he brings Fernando Torres back with him

20 May 2012 18:55:37
Have to be realistic Jose or Pep aren't going to come to Liverpool, finished mid-table, don't have loads of cash to spend this summer either.
Looking at the likes of Martinez etc is right, not been in the Champions League for a few years now so why the fans think Liverpool have a god given right to be in there and expect the likes of Jose and Pep just to automatically want to come to Anfield is beyond me!!
Let's get real and start to build again.

Mate there is a difference in a player signing in and a manager signing in .

when a player signs he looks for the clubs form position standing , where are they going forward or not, etc etc

but its not that same with manager , its common knowledge that when a club wants a new manager most probably they are not doing great..as we .thats y new manager is wanted.

when a manager comes in he looks at the proposal not the way a fan or player looks, he wants investment, support, big salary, and power over the team affairs ...n manny good things yup the club value is there in mind but still ..we are not that bad not to have any top manger.

but that doesn't mean im saying jose or pep are coming (or it may happen if we get a proper proposal ).

20 May 2012 18:49:54
Is it true that FSG have decided to speed up the search for a new manager & rather than interview 12 people are looking to appoint AVB by the end of the week?

I hope so mate, we need this sorted A.S.A.P.

No its obviously not true although i would love avb as coach

20 May 2012 18:44:41
Hi ed. first im still gutted KK has gone! Ed I can't understand why we would want AVB? He come to Chelsea and lost the all dressing room in two months!! If we want to get somewhere I really think its Rafa, now he knows he is not the bee's knee's.

Rafa back. Torres back ( same again, knows what he had at liverpool ) and Alonso back.

This happens we are back it top 4 next season and maybe win a cup. Happy day are back for us and build from there..

Great job ed and what u think?
Thanks
Jim7sky

What on earth is this constant obsession with the past..For gawds sake, let's move on . Rome 77

What people have to remember is we arn't chelsea, if AVB was appointed he'd have the support he didn't get at chelsea as he stated he couldn't do the job on his own and at liverpool he won't

What about Ian Rush he could come back and play upfront with Robbie Fowler with Beardsley playing just behind them!!

Chelseas team was built by mourinho to play a certain way, similar to how rdm has the team playing now. avb tried to play an almost contrasting way. the low lying defense became a high line defense, this didn't suit terry and luiz is luiz. mikel isn't able to play avb's way so merieles and romeu often got started, i believe and that is a pretty weak partnership if it did happen? then of course you had the whole players uprising because of ther egos and due to the fact that he wasn't doing what they wanted. he then never got the oppertunity to offload them and build a team of his players. had he had the time i think he would've had chelsea firing. on the other hand, skretl and agger are better defenders and confortable on the ball to join the midfield in attacks. our fullbacks are both confortable on the ball. lucas can both play football and tackle, and so can hendo. gerrard is gerrard and suarez is suarez. i think that the youth will prosper under him. he will probobly buy a rw and maybe a lw and they will be his players. suarez is suarez so that is sorted. the only problem is i don't see carroll fitting into that system unless he alters his game and improves his confidence to be ruthless in front of goal. we also need depth as i don't think adam will fit his system. he is very attacking and his football is easy on the eye i remember at times chelsea played some good stuff. i don't see a players revolt against him. i do think he will have the time and backing to get us to the top 4. also please note kenny's football isn't 1 million miles away from his so our squad will be more ready for it than chelsea was. as well the average age of our squad is low and have now had a season togather so we don't need an overhaul like chelsea needed. bringing our 2009 team back will not solve anyting as man city spurs and newcastle weren't challengers like they are now. i believe in avb if we can get him.
derryred

Someone above has said that we are not Chelsea and that AVB would get the support he didnt get there, do you mean like all the support that our greatest ever player and last title winning manager got?

After 2 Wembley heroics in 8 days I would like to throw the name Gary Mills (York City) into the mix for our new manager!
Young, Dynamic and has the minstermen playing some lovely football...

Just thought its worth a mention as we seem to be getting rejected by everybody else.

What garbage...For a start he's 50.. Do your research. He played for Forest in the 81 European Cup final..Not exactly a young, up-coming manager...And are we going to go for the York boss??......NO

Sorry, meant to say 1980 final...I know who won 81 final...

20 May 2012 18:41:31
Yes Torres has won the CL and he seems to be a popular topic today, but think of this. Do you think he'd rather win the CL and not really play a part in final besides a cameo or actually be a part of a team where he is really supported? His interview with Balague says it all, he is upset that he hasn't played a large role at chelsea like he did at Liverpool. I loved Torres when he played for us and I was very upset when he decided to leave. But with the way he is talking lately he seems to be regretting the move because yes he has won trophies and medals that lots of players would love to have but has he really won them or has the team that he has not really been a part of won them? He has been on somewhat good form lately but wasn't a starter in the semis or both finals and the player who was probably one of the best strikers in the world about two years ago was not even picked to be a PK taker and Cahill admitted he was next in the order if it went further. I feel bad for him because he was a legend with us and now he is just another name.

In choosing the next manager, I hope FSG do not pay too much attention to fans' wishes.

It sounds like a good idea, but actually it is not a good way to run the club.

For instance, the most vocal fans appear to want to reinstate either Rafa or Kenny. Says it all, really.

Fans are backward looking; owners need to be forward-looking.

Bloody hell, a poster with sense!

Why has Fergie been allowed to post on here ?

So red men if a new manager comes in and doesn't change the team that much for next season and we are a banging the goals in, What would youse think? I myself would be even more annoyed that Kenny didn't get another season.

gee man

Wouldn't that be deemed as a manager coming in and getting confidence and composure into the players. Wouldn't that deem the new manager more of a success and Kenny as having failed.

Papa G

I think our confidence was fine Papa g it was more bad luck than anything.

gee man

Me personally i would think its just theluck has changed thats it pure and simple half the chances had gone in good chance he would still be here

Look at chelsea avbb got no luck whilst rdm got stacks, never have i seen a team that wins the champions league less deserving

Rafa to be the Manager.

Rafa to bring back the unsettled ladyboy from Chelsea.

Said Ladyboy attempts to rebuild bridges with the Kop.

It just looks painfully obvious. You know, just one of THEM things.

Torres will never ever come back to LFC.

Ok! So far in the Liverpool saga/cock up. Pep, Klopp and Rodgers are definite no. Ed002 says Avb might not be ready and Capello might be too old. That might 5 we can rule out. So we have Rafa, Martinez, Laudrup! Who else? My minds gone to mush!

20 May 2012 18:05:39
All the fans slating our choices for manager, like unproven men such as Martinez, should remember what Bill Shankly was doing when we hired him. Not saying that Martinez is my choice, but it is horses for courses, we never know what any manager, experienced or not, will bring to us, we just have to see how their teams style of play is what we want, and then hope it all falls into place for them. Same as AVB may have failed at chelsea, but then he had the dressing room ego's to contend with as well as an owner that likes to involve himself in every decision. Rafa was a disaster in his last season with us, but we no longer have the same idiots in charge at the top. It is simple really, whoever comes in will have a clean slate from which to formulate what they think will bring us success. Sorry for the moan, but I am tired of seeing fans slating whoever will be coming in before they have even had a chance to open the door, lets give whoever FSG our full support until January at least, at last then we will have something to either praise or criticize.

Red4Ever

Well said, whoever we get in we all HAVE to give the guy a break and support him 100%, if we don't then it will prove to be detrimental for the whole club.

I agree with you. when it comes to martinez people say what has he won, martinez won league 1 with swansea. now how many people have won a trophy and became a premiership manager before their even 40. he has had next to no funds compared to other clubs and he has still built a good team with up and coming stars that play good football. whose to say with bigger funds and better players he can't win trophies.

thanks {Ed002's Note - I have no preference.}

Well ABV have been manager in top label. he was rocking with porto. I don't want to judge him for chelsea as no one did well in chelsea.

Is it just me or is fernsndo torres regretting the move away i would say so, he has a lot of pressure for a young guy its not nice to see anybody going thriugh that i for one think he should just pack up and go home back to spain were the spotlight and media wont just be as bad he was nevet going to get a fair shot at chelsea any time he misses a shot a header everyones going to say 50m? Iv got a feelong if liverpool gave him a shot snd more inportantly the fans gave him another go hed bite your hand off. He didnt realise how much it ment to ve adored by your supporters. Everyone said at chelsea hes not going to be loved like chelsea. He left because he wanted glory and all this though be true to say be careful what u wish for...

Torres is not wanted at Liverpool, and it is clear he is not wanted at Chelsea. Apparently, Athletico Madrid feel the same way about him.

I guess this is why we are taught at a young age to learn to play with others, and not be selfish.

He will doubtless go to some nouveau riche club in the summer - PSG/Anzi/Malaga, etc.

Load of tripe.

Seriously, Fernando Torres, has burnt his bridges at Anfield. Get on with life he's been gone 18 months now. He is getting older, why would we want him back.

Can nobody remember his last year at LFC. He was injured or poor. With the injuries we all thought we'd be lucky to get 25m for him.

He reminds me alot of Owen. Relies on pace and injuries will catch up on him. Esp in the premiership.

He will move to Italy, slower paced league, because he is too fragile for England

Ye am sure hes regreting moving to chelsea because he could of had a carling cup medal instead of an fa cup and champs league medal,ha ha ha i forgot liverpool won the carling cup that for a season makes it the biggest cup ever, why are fans like you so daft.Terry

Eds, I cant read site anymore, some people are really showing thier apse's, It's so embarrasing, Do fans really expect FSG to publish daily updates on how the search for a new manager is going. I think they deserve credit. they set target and acted when they were not met. it makes me feel bad for kenny, but had to question some of his decisions were questionable at best. like the way he treated Andy Carroll, Ex players all say striker play on confidence, as soon as Carroll got a run in the team and seemed to be coming into form, next game he was on the bench.T
there was no european football and that for me was a great excuss to play the same team week in week out like Paisley and Fagan did in the 70's/80's the only changes thay made were for injuries.
So Kenny had to go for me and FSG acted, they are now picking a new man, for all we know it may be someone managing at the euro's so we wont hear until July.
Some say they have only spent a net £40m, however forgett they paid most of the debt down, they have not made any false promises re new stadium, no spade in the ground claims etc.
I also think that they will have a CEO DOF in place and a whole new management team will be announced in one go.
I will start reading the site when a new man is named so I can read a possitve comment again as it make my blood boil when so called fans start slagging people off before they know what the plans are.

What a good post , instead of thinking with your heart you have used your head , and i agree they might have someone already and are waiting for all the leagues around the world to finish , plus they wont get pulled for tapping up any managers , you make a lot of sense ,,,,,,,,,mickey b

20 May 2012 17:37:23
any chance of capello eds? Said he wants to lead an epl club to sucess {Ed002's Note - I really don't know - but would age be an issue?}

Does Cappello have to retire at 65?

Kenny was 61 {Ed002's Note - No.}

Both Capello and Kenny in their sixties, and both effectively fired.

The world moves on, and what worked twenty-five years ago may not work anymore.

Otherwise, you could just hire Trapattoni, Lippi and Sacchi and keep winning things.

20 May 2012 17:36:56
It gets my goat the way people who are into baseball cite the way FSG transformed the red socks and use that as a reason they will succeed with LFC. In Baseball the only team they had to chase was the Yankees. Not a team like city with unlimited resources or Chelsea- same or Man Utd with massive turnover. Secondly, FSG are baseball fans, they openly admitted they knew nothing about football when they bought us 20 months ago. Please don't equate baseball with football it is completely different in every respect.

There's many similarities being that they are both professional sports teams with massive fanbases, and while I agree you can't compare Baseball and Football(obviously) you can compare how to successfully takeover a club and return it to where it belongs. JWH didn't buy LFC to be mediocre, we'll be back next year with a new focus,players,managers....Have some faith everyone.

PhillyRED

I mostly agree, but they had to chase more than just the Yankees.

Past performance would seem to be a better indicator of future success than, say, your imagination. Also, the Yankees are exactly like City.

You obviously know nothing about baseball dude, the yankies arent that good any more there are several major teams, the philies, rangers, giants, st louis are other examples. money spent in baseball is insane, not much is spent in transfer fees but the money is in the wages, Albert Pujols as an example he signed a ten-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, worth around $254 million, so there is more money in baseball than the EPL so to say baseball people and FSG dont know what they are doing is stupid

Yankee's I believe are one of the richest Sporting clubs in the World. Google their wage bill and see there is many reasons why its worth comparing {Ed002's Note - The average Yankee player wage is £72k per week and the Red Sox £59k. Liverpools is £61k.}

The three major American spectator sports - NFL, MLB, and NBA - are incredibly competitive professional sports leagues. The skills you learn in these environments - how to manage a club, increase revenues, attract the best players - are entirely transferable to the EPL.

The owners paid of our debts and gave kenny a lot of money , they got involved and left him to it , the owners and kenny st a target for 4th place thats why they gave him so much money to go out and buy the players to get him there , as they did not know much about football they left it to camolli and kenny , they failed with the signings and failed in getting 4th , to be successful you have to be ruthless , which they have shown when they sacked kenny and camolli , they have done a lot for our club and some fans are calling them already , give them a chance and they will prove to us that they keep their word , but only time will tell

They have 10/12 year contracts
Makes it sound alot more when it's a 50million dollar contract

Lyndon

I try not to reply negatively to any comments, as I believe every opinion is valid and worth thinking about, even if I disagree.
This original comment is ridiculous however. Both sports are similar. Similar fan bases, league competitiveness, revenue streams, media coverage, contracts, agents. And both very tactical.
You need to research more before you write comments like this. You obviously know nothing about baseball or the red sox, or the yankees for that matter.

Hi eds, theres been a lot of talk about Redknapp any of this true? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea at all.}

20 May 2012 17:26:27
Makes perfect sense to go for a manager who is out of contract so we don't have to compensate anyone. 2 that spring to mind are avb and rafa. Rafa knows the squad well... But avb I think would have more to prove after his stint at Chelsea and is far less likely to make excuses for not achieving goals etc. Martinez would be ok but only if we are looking at building for the future. He would need at least 3 years to mount a decent challenge. So avb it is for me

I agree, but having seen his Chelsea side devoid of imagination worries me. Ok, the senior players were against his tactics but, even so, they weren't pretty to watch.
solidair

we,re getting to dillusional redmen, lets remember were we are i.e NOWHERE.we've got no right to question who the next boss will be ,all the people mentioned like martinez avb etc will get us higher than 8th next season, stop being over emotional about kenny,it was an abysmal season,we need someone abit more media friendly and certainly not rafa.I live by the ground and you usually get the rumours in the alehouses, you know whos in the know and i've three strong and reliable ones.its avb, suarez is defo going and the new stadium will be announced shortly with coca cola being the main sponsor.

As supporters of Liverpool FC, we have ploughed money into the club through going to the matches, following the team around Europe, buying merchandise, Sky Sports subscription etc.

Without the supporters cold hard cash there would be no Liverpool FC. That gives us every right to question who the new manager will be.

Why bother with a stadium if the owners appoint an inadequate replacement and sell the club's best players. How on earth would Martinez bring in world class replacements?

Aurelio ,spearing,Maxi,Kyut,Skrtel,Carragher,Bellamy Should all be replaced by better players this summer ..Downing ,henderson and Adam need to dramatically improve between now and the end of next season or they can go too , Steven Gerrad aint going to get any younger and he,s already struggling with fitness and form over the last few seasons and he has to much influence too, too much revovles around Gerrard and now he,s past his best this is bad news ,same with Carra .. Time for them to touch on and let a new manager come in and do his job without certain players saying who should be signed and who should be the manager , time to get realistic my friends ...We have way to many under preforming and aging stars ..The proof is in the pudden .. look where we,v finished in the league last two years .. look at all our defeats to low league teams.. look at our terrible home form this year ,look at all the missed chances , sloppy passes ..and terrible defending .. It has to stop Sick of looking at Liverpool doing nothing in games until they go 1 nil down..then they start playing .. Norwich or Swansea would of gave Chelsea a better game in the FA Cup Final ,getting sick of it now , .. Bring in a total football manager , back him with funds for top quality players , get rid of the deadwood .. and start playing some nice attacking football and stop sitting back and hoofing balls all over the place and losing to lowly placed teams .. it used to be we,d lose away to all these teams ..now its where losing at home to them too .. cant even score against half of them .. and no manager sends his players out and tell them to play crap football ,Right lads ... its all down to bad players .. Massive clear out needed in all positions

I think this is why AVB is being considered. He will have same mandate as at Chelsea: big clear-out.

So you'd replace Skrtel then, player of the year. You need to have a word with yourself mate.

Sooty

Player of the year ..in a team that was brutal all year .. suarez was good apart from his incident

Why not REVERT TO FACTORY SETTINGS - someone owns a football club called LFC - let's see what sort of manager they employ - what sort of football they play - and then decide if we want to support them?

Bit late mate when its been running throught your blood for 40years , just have to take it on the chin cheers psv

20 May 2012 17:07:17
If Newspapers are true,Re.Fenway cut backs. And clubs circling for Suarez and Skrtel were fooked.Fenway seemingly asking on Twitter who we want as Manager too.I thought these guys were genuine and knew what they were doing.Starting to look like i was wrong on both scores.Scared as fook for future of our beloved club!

Asking on twitter is nothing new
i know clubs check sites like this one for example to find out public opinion

FSG did not ask who we wanted as the new manager. There was a poll running on the LFC website, the LFC twitter had a link to it. They may or may not source that as fans opinions, but FSG certainly didn't ask.

We all know the bookies are running for cover as they dont have a clue who is coming in but.....keep an eye on Laudrup, his price has dropped dramatically from around 40/1 to 16/1 this morning to around 12's this afternoon maybe something in it may not be something in it,
I did speak with a chap today though down the bookies who id never seen before in my life which is something considering i spend half my time in this particular shop.....I was talking about the manager betting and he claimed to have been at Notts Forest in the players lounge over 2 weeks ago where one of the players and one of the coaching staff was apparently adamant Martinez was already lined up to take over from Kenny, he showed me two betting slips one with Martinez at 28/1 and one with him at 16's........I told him no chance in my own honest opinion and he offered to take me up on a 50 quid personal bet that hed get the job!...I declined!.......I still dont think Martinez will get the job personally but interesting stuff anyway.....
The Guv 81-9 YNWA JFT96

I hope this guy was wrong the guv iv nothing personally against martinez but in my heart and head i just dont feel he,s the man for the job i would rather have borrell put in charge plays the game right know,s the youth players better than any one else wigan were eleventh the season before martinez took over relegation battle ever since doesnt exactly instill confidence

Hi ed's, why don't we all just give in now? I admire fans of clubs like everton, newcatsle, stoke, fulham and even to a certain extent arsenal, take arsenal, they have sold players. Year after year, anelka, pires, petit, overmars, henry, nasri and fabregas, yet never break the bank on players and wages, but still get champions league, yet no cup, but we won a cup this year! But champions league football is the all and end all, the other clubs always have full stadiums yet sell their big stars, but yet we are going through a stage of rebuilding and some of are fans are acting like its the end of the world, even if we don't meet the very high expectations in the next few years, were we are going to have to rebuild the team, wage structure and the new stadium or refurbishment of anfield issue, things could turn out good quick, or in most probally take a few years, just try and back what fsg are trying to do, the david dein approach is most certain about the new stadim issue, and what he did at arsenal! And if certain players want or do get sold, as long as the money goes back in the team, then whats the problem, we are competing with super rich city and chelsea, the mancs who are paying back debt, but can still attract and pay big money, and that debt will soon be gone, and just think the revenue that they will have then, then u have arsenal and spurs, 2 excellent run clubs, who will only improve, everton will surely get bought by some1 soon, and newcastle, stoke others are building bit by bit, well in their means! But what we want. Is are club to spend, spend , spend, look what happened to leeds! Fsg aren't the mega rich oil tycoons we all wish and wanted! But they were the best of what was on offer, to get rid of hicks and gillet! They're cv is a successful 1 at sports, but tom werner is from t.v, so his ideas are probally for liverpool to make from tv in asia and other areas of the world! And j w henry is a money man, money ball and all that, make £ into ££££, so why don't we all just calm down (no pun meant), and let them do what they've done every where else they've been, a success! And if the worst comes to it, well I,m sure they'll be another set of oil rich/chinese money men out there to buy out fsg! But I honestly think, given time and patience, and left to do what they thinks best! We will come good, at least be challenging up the top 1-5, because competition is hard! Give it to avb, he could of won what di matteo did, if the players backed him the same way they did di matteo, and what was di matteo doing when assistant, keeping all is thoughts to himself? Not 1 mention I heard from di matteo or any chelski player after last nights win of avb ! Player power is so unreal these days! Sorry 4 going on, just don't see the need for the gloom and doom! Patience was once said to be a virtue! Ha lol Y...N...W...A jft96 * * * * * thanks ED's DH 1980!

I was out riding to hounds this morning - what a glorious day. I was conversing with the Master of Hounds at the end over a cup of warmed wine and the Master pointed something out - Chelsea have spent nigh on a Billion poubds to get where they are and likewise Manchester City and that both will spend the same again to remain there. Maybe Mr Dalglish's 110M or so (gross on) transfers is a piddling amount. Lord Lyver of Byrd

Can everyone on here stop being so negative. We are turning into a load of chappies who are always winging.

FACT we were a day away from administration 18 months ago.
FACT FSG bailed us out, have spent a fortune in reducing the club debt.
FACT- If Kenny was not such a iconic figure he would have gone months ago.
FACT- It is their club, they do not want to destroy it, they want do hat they did with Red Sox.
FACT- Net spend is low because they were never sure Kenny was long term answer.

Just calm down, the media are trying to make this a bigger story than it is. FSG are making a long term appointment and want to take time on this. (personally I think they already have one decided on, and the list is a smoke screen)

Stop slagging FSG off and be greatful, just remeber what it was like with Gillet and Hicks.

to all the people who say the americans clearly don't care about 'trophies' because they sacked kenny, you don't know what you're talking about. they've sacked kenny in order to give the club a chance of winning CL and PL in the coming years. the carling cup is nothing

Liverpool always took the League Cup seriously when Hansen, Dalglish, Souness, Whelan, Rush and company were in the team. If our greatest teams, greatest managers, and greatest players took the tournament seriously, so should we. As for the assumption that candidates such as Martinez are likely to win the Champions League, the best I can say is that I remain to be convinced.

Hey ed ..loving the site ..im in Dublin ireland and im supporting Liverpool 30 years ... apart from the Treble year under Houllier and The Champions league win under Benitez ,and the odd carling and Fa cup win over the last 20 years ..its been pretty painful to watch Liverpool play in the League .. it amazes me it been so long since our last Title win ...I hope we get Someone like Dider deschamps , Frank rijkaard ,Frank de Boer ,Luis Van Gaal or Gus Hiddink ,Hiddink would be my favoured choice anyway ..Martin Jol got Spurs playing good football a few seasons ago .. i think we could benefit from a dutch Manager who likes to play nice free flowing football . Give him some funds and let him get some quality players and get rid of the deadwood .. We could turn things around very quickly .. look how quick Arsene wenger got Arsenal playing nice football .. it can be done ..with the right appiontments and signings .. To many defensive managers and poor signings .. has to stop

Totally agree Dublin Red.

Maybe a Dane with some Spanish influence? Free flowing football philosophy, nows how to manage with a limited budget, Liverpool supporter?

Hi eds just an observation.
All the talk about a new manager does it not make sense to have the rest in order first ie. ceo and dof before any manager will even consider entering into a club in a bit of a mess at the moment.
also i fully believe fsg are to be supported in what they are trying to do with us i have never heard so many impatient people alleged fans whining so much.
1.kenny had to go 14 league wins is not acceptable any other manager would have been out long ago. also i think kd being given the job ft was a sentimental job to please the fans.
2.the season is only over 1 week and fans are writing off next year already crazy dont do what all english fans do to a national manager so whoever is hired give them a chance i personally would favour rafa back at the moment as we can not attract the bigger names everyone seems to want.
Your views on this eds or macca?
Cheers wayne. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea why the fans have turned now on the owners to be honest.}

Because alot of them are

The fact that FSG sacked a trophy-winning manager with minimal respect for the wishes of the club's hard core fans, and for the trophy-winning exploits of our greatest managers and players of the club's past might ring a bell or two. Ed 002, this is not your club, and you will never understand what it is that makes our club so important to those of us who have grown up living and breathing a real football club. This is not a criticism of you, so much as an objective observation. We have more than enough reasons to be critical of the owners. Liverpool Football Club existed long before FSG, and we will continue to do so after FSG have gone.

Red Owl

{Ed002's Note - Dalglish went for very specific reasons - like it or not. I can only suggest that it is critical you drive these owners out and hope they find what? A sugar daddy owner from an oil rich nation? A wealthy Far Eastern business man willing to pour hundreds of millions in to the club? Institutional buyers who will look to reduce costs and sell on? What is it you want when you drive the decent owners out?}

Some of yous are like kids crying on xmas eve thinking that santa will not come to yous kenny dalglish has gone yes hes still a legend and always will be. but for crying out loud let it go.
2 yrs ago fsg were our saviour the best owners anyone could ask for now they are terrible owners for sacking "forget his name" an under achieving manager.
I for ine am happy that the owners of our club are not willing to let sentiment in the way of pushing our team and club forward. as kenny himself said there is no one man bigger than the club.
Im sure half the same muppets will be on here in jan saying how good a decision it was by the owners..

Torres will be available in Summer due to misconceptions of his role at the club since signing last year...

Once Liverpool complete their management structure and potential signings are scouted I fully expect Torres to be considered by Liverpool...

GuBa {Ed002's Note -

Torres will not come anywhere near Anfield ever again whilst Gerrard and Carragher are there.

He has just won the champions league with chelsea, why would he return. get a brain.
huddz red

Haha no

It does seem that Torres is unhappy especially in his interview with guillem balague
I'd expect him to go to juve if he leaves Chelsea
Jbplfc {Ed002's Note - It is perhaps an option - as well as Spain.}

I see why he would leave Chelsea - lack of playing time (his role was basically a cameo in both Final and Semis) - but not why he or we would want him back at Liverpool.

Thoughtful Red

Eds,
I'm a little bit confused now...
everybody is saying something different...
Does Liverpool have to enter the Europa League in the qualifying stages or have they already qualified for the group stages now as Chelsea won the CL?

Cheers

Phil {Ed002's Note - UEFA have said that Liverpool must enter the third qualifying round as Carling Cup winners which is the reason for the misked messages as previously everyone expected them to enter as FA Cup runners up.}

All I ever hear is doing it the Liverpool way,and I hear fans saying they don't want to buy trophies like city or Chelsea, get a grip off yourselfs would ya,the top 4 or so teams go out and spend huge money on players and wages it's the way football has gone and we clearly have to follow as fans we want success and to be chasing the big name players and managers, it's so annoying seeing united city Chelsea and spurs chasing your big players and we are chasing the likes of players not good enough to keep the bench of Chelsea or city warm,Chelsea were linked with guadiola and we are linked with Martinez!! Come on like,Torres even left to win trophies we should be able to compete with all the top teams but we don't, all I ever hear is we can't afford the transfer fee or wages,it's a fecking joke it feels like we are always behind the rest in every aspect Chelsea can go and sign Torres for 50 mil and chase some top players we sign Adam or downing these players are not good enough and sadly I don't think I will ever see Liverpool win a league because we can never afford the kind of players that would add the quality to our team to be success we gotta be able to chase the likes of player that are world class, and when we get good players they end up leavin to win trophys mascherano Torres alonso owen maybe Suarez and reina all left or could leave just to win trophies we won't win the league or even qualify for the champions league if we don't compete with the rest in the transfer Market if fsg spend the money and make us successful in the league and Europe surely succes would bring in more revenue, sorry for this rant but we always seem to be out of the running or can't afford the players the rest are after, we can't even chase the managers that are world class like guadiola mourhino or klopp even Brendan Rodgers won't talk to us not that I want him, I may accept while we can't attract the big players the rest seem to, we can look forward to signing players from the lower league teams and hope we can maybe win another a carling cup while the rest challenge for the league and champions league I know what I'd rather be chasing but it's not gona happen.
Cheers

20 May 2012 15:53:58
Someone posted here that "Capello is a terrible manager".
He is stubborn, demanding, inflexible and on the wrong side of 60. He is also an extremely successful manager.

Capello has won the league title with every single club he has managed.
He has won Serie A (7 times), La Liga (2 times), Supercoppa Italiana (4 times), European Super Cup and the Champions League. Milan's 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League final has often been called one of the best performances by a club side ever.

Capello has a win record of 57%, which is just below Ferguson's 57.9%. However his teams have lost just 14% of games played, which is far better than SAF (19%). This places him above Fergusson (and just about everyone else) in terms of average points per game:
Managers career average points per game
Mouriniho – 2.27
Capello – 2.0
Ferguson – 1.97
Dalglish – 1.88
Deschamps – 1.86
Wengner – 1.83
Benitez – 1.81
Klopp – 1.61

When Capello took over England they were rated 12th in the world. By the time he left they were rated 5th, having won 66% of games with him as manager (losing just 6 in 42).

There are a number of valid reasons to question whether he is the right manager for Liverpool, but being a "terrible manager" is not one of them.

Red Steve

Never mastered English, mate, and for that reason, it's a no. Unless we buy a squad full of Italians. That was one of his downfalls as the England boss. Four million a year and he couldn't learn the language.Unforgiveable

Good post mate.

the betting has just changed Martinez has gone out to 3-1 from favourite , the new favourite is AVB at 5/6 but Laudrup is down to 10-1 as well .

Betting odds are based on the amount of money being staked by punters ie the lower the odds the more people are betting on that being the winner. Punters don't get it right too often though

20 May 2012 15:41:14
i cant understand why liverpool fans believe everything they read in the media .
first of all they slag rafa of for the last 12 months of time but ignore all the good times we had with him .they ignore all the stuff he had to put up with from the two cowboys and purslow. they ignore that he made a profit in his last two seasons on his time.
when we were second thats when we should have kept the squad and added to it instead
we had to make money to pay the interest.
then youve got fans who want martinez or avb
who are decent but is the liverpool job to big for them at this time i think so.

Listen those of you who are against FSG and questioning them now, how much do you actually know about them? As an American and a baseball fan, I know these people and how they changed the fortune of Boston Red Sox. They were in a worse situation than us, had passionate fans, no money, no players. Then Henry took over and started to invest and changed the things around.
Everyone knows they won the World Series after 88 years. Yankees fan like me hated them, they were on toe to toe with us competing after half a century or so for the major titles and players. People started to view Red Sox, like the English fans view Man City. But there was one exception, the club was financially and comercially healthy; all due to FSG's policy.

Jack D.

As a Boston fan then you would know they just implemented another persons ideology into their own before someone else did the same.

Kopping a feel

Doesn't matter it worked

Perhaps they should stick to baseball then.

Let's be honest here. No one can say Liverpool want to sign such a player and Liverpool are going to sell so and so. Look at it realistically, how can and why would Liverpool sign a player without having a manager in place? Only FSG have an idea of who they would want as our manager and that manager will identify possible signings and current players who suit the style of play the manager wants. Why would Liverpool spend money now on players our new manager potentially doesn't want or doesn't fit the new system? I think the only player who FSG may decide to cash in on is Suarez and that's down to the Evra case. I think Luis is happy at Liverpool as it was he who stated he wanted to discuss a new contract in close-season. But on the other hand, he has caused huge problems for the club this season (despite pleading his innocence) and with clubs like PSG, Palermo, Malaga, Real, City, Chelsea and Anzhi all set to splash the cash this summer, Suarez is the type of player who would improve their squad no matter how much he'd cost. With some fans, the owners have put themselves in a precarious position in regards to trust after sacking Dalglish, and if they were to sell our best player, they are going to diminish that trust even further. I would hate to see Suarez leave however. When was the last time we had a player with so much attacking flair and ability?

If Skrtel does want to leave then I say let him go. He's not exactly one of the best players in the world and there are better defenders out there than him. It is more important for us to keep hold of Agger than Skrtel. Yes he's had a fantastic season and you don't win Player of the Year at a club for no reason but do we really want to keep someone who's heart isn't at Anfield? I would love him to stay don't get me wrong, but only if he wants to be here and fight for the cause.

Onto the new manager. This is the biggest decision that FSG will make for years to come. I think it will turn out to be AVB more than any other manager. He ticks more of FSG's boxes than anyone else, particularly the 'young and ambitious' part. He shares the same ideas as them in developing youth for the long term. He tried to do the same at Chelsea, sacrificing the short term for the long term but wasn't backed. I know Di Matteo has since led them to 2 trophies, one being the biggest in club football but if you look at their record in the league, AVB's Chelsea were better. More points, more goals, more posession and he left Chelsea in a higher league position. I would prefer an older and more experienced manager who would come in, command the players who would instantly respect him and his decisions and get us going. However, I feel that it is going to be AVB.

JT.

Suarez cant be sold. even if it happens(just a thought ) it wont be before new manage arrives . liverpool trying for managers like kloop, deschams, avb, pep(may be just a rumour) n all cant sell their best player , and go to a good manager for his services .

now suarez isnt a robbie keane that could be sent back just after a year?

suarez is crowd favorite.
suarez is one of the most current popular players.(yup like it or not.)
best performer from current lot,

can you imagine how important is he to us? not just on the ground but also from business point of view? it would effect on the sell of merchandise, tickets.

in this rough patch after sacking kenny, would FSG do the biggest mistake of selling suarez?

Hello Eds
Ed002 congrats on CL win
Ed you said yesterday now liverpool will not have to play EL qualifiers. But a few ESPN journos are claiming otherwise. According to them Spurs-Group stage Newcastle-1 Qualifier to play Liverpool-2 Qualifiers to play
Also is it true ManU have signed Nick Powell
{Ed002's Note - ESPN have picked up on the statement from UEFA that changes previous thinking. This was discussed earlier.}

Why did Kenny not don a suit for the cup finals? Maybe a reflection on his retro style?

just an observation...

Fairplay some managers don't like wearing suits but when youre at wembley or any cup final, you should be smart throughout not just before the match

The important fact is he got us to Wembley in the first place, those of us who went that is.

its not really looking good is it with a manager. i will back who've we get but not really my cup of tea some of the names not good enough for our great club i have narrow our realistic chances down and i would prob chose rafa not something i would really like but wouldn't mind has mutch lets hope dow that the fsg pull some think special out of the hat

How about Rafa as DOF and Martinez as manager, he can always step in if the manager is out of his depth, Benitez can act as Martinez big brother ;)

Yeh they have a lot in common;
Both Spanish, both know the Spanish market well and they are both short :)))

Benitez can never be let near the club again he is a disgrace

What an absolutely ridiculous post, how can you call Rafa a disgrace unless you are one of Fergies mates.

FSG are rich but there not city, chelsea rich. Kenny has spent the best part of 130million in 18months so lets not get our hopes up cos u cant blame them if they give the new man a small budget

Get your facts right !! kenny spent 38 million nett.

You are talking rubbish my keyboard warrior friend, why dont you look out your window at the man city open top buses ?

Hey everybody give FSG a break, they were spot on to get rid of KD, his handling of the media alone was in my view sufficient to get rid of him. Look at the point tally and what was spent, the two don't add up.

He is a legend and always will be but he had to go.

In the meantime let's just sit tight and see who they bring in.

YNWA

This from a guy who outed Benitez and backed Hodgson

Kenny handled the media no differently to Ferguson, and you my friend are talking tripe

Do me a favour NEVER use our symbol YNWA when you have just typed so much rubbish about our greatest footballer, a man your not fit to tie his shoeleaces

The symbol stands for never letting our own stand alone, not stating that kenny was a poor manager

All managers start at smaller clubs. they are stepping stones for moves to larger clubs. Rafa started at smaller Spanish clubs before moving to Valencia. Jose M failed before going to Porto. If Martinez is appointed we must give him a chance with a larger transfer budget. He is bright, forward thinking, likes to play good attacking football and is media friendly. Our present squad only needs tweeking here and there and I believe we can be challenging for the top 4 next year. Look what Pardew did with Newcastle.

Manager should go from relegation threaten teams to mid table team before taking job at a team that wants to challenge for honours.
So Martinez should take Villa job if he does well and we are looking for a manager in few years time then we can employ him, otherwise it could be a big mistake on both parts.

If we get Aquilani back that would be so much better in terms of the funds we have to spend in key areas as we wouldn't need another CM.

Lodeiro is also free on bosman in the 1st July and at 23 still a good buy for squad player as he is fast and got good technique and is built for his size and might be playing football for Uruguay in the Olympics. he would be with Suarez, Coates and other South Americans.

next season i'd give the carling up to the up and coming player including back up players like Doni.

Doni
kelly, Sama, Coates, Mendy
Henderson, Shelvey
Silva, Suso, Teixeira
Carroll/Ngoo

Agree but same thing could justify hOdgsons appointment.

see media n few pips are going gaga abt martinez that how always he saves them wigan in last 5-6 matches

but isnt he the same manager who is in charge whole season when they struggle n have to claw their way back?

another thing, its been same old story abt martinez that he managed to keep wigan in top league but...after 2 season DO YOU SEE ANY PROGRESS IN WIGAN? one can say abt money problem ,,ohh yah but im not expecting them to be top 6 but..have they moved ahead even a step or 2? say in the top 12- 15 NO.

WIGAN have martinez 2 seasons now, and on the footballing FRONT or even in standings WIGAN HAVE NOT PROGRESSES ANYWHERE. how can such manager be at our great club

see again martinez, hodgson are type of managers who work in limited money n sources for clubs WHO JUST WANT TO BE THERE. i.e. prevention from falling down. not FOR A CLUB WHO WANT TO BE A CHAMPION.

SIGNING MARTINEZ would be a stupidity when you have a spanish league winner, champions league winner manager , who is a tactical mastermind when it comes to grinding out results, benitez must come ahead of martinez on the list.

How can you say that it would be a 'STUPIDITY' signing Martinez and how he only does well with limited money, when you've never seen him at a club with a good budget or with the chance to have or to buy quality players.

Jamo

Even though I think looking and interviewing managers is the right thing to do I am concerned that the current situation is not doing the club any favours right now and the image is one of a club that lacks strong leadership [ personally don't think that is true] and backs up the impression created after the Suarez affair where we did not act quickly or decisively. Hope we sort in the next couple of days and that current and targeted players can start to focus on the club rather than seeing a vacuum and looking elsewhere.

Would like some experience at moment but do not Villas-Boas as I was one who thought we should target him after Hodgson.

20 May 2012 15:14:59
Can I just say that we haven't even appointed a manager yet and you are slagging FSG off. Give them a chance. To be honest I would like AVB but will back the club whatever.

To be honest I really don't want rafa back wasn't he the Liverpool manager who as spent the most out of anybody and won the CL with Houlliers squad.

Anyway as long as FSG employ who impresses theost then I am happy.

Capello is a terrible manager

Why would anyone want him?

Please God don't inflict Capello on LFC and keep AVB away too
---------------
Do you even know football? Capello is a world class manager who has won title with every club he has been to.
One of best managers of average england team with top win%.

Problem will be his wages,he will be very expensive.
But I will take him over others anyday.

Red indian

Yeah Red Indian. He done well in the World Cup with England, didnt he? When it really counts!

The Irish Rover

I wouldn't mind AVB think he had it hard at chelsea which is why it didn't work out

His experiance is a key. and he like to work with young player. look at team england. I will wel come him.

Capello is an excellent club manager, his CV speaks for itself, managing England was a mistake but I would not want his to be our next manager because of his age, we need someone that can manage for a long time, we don't want to change manager in 3 or 4 years time, capello can be a quick fix or a good DOF.

Capello is now how old maybe 65 years old

He was not a terribly successful manager for England or do you think he was?

If Kenny was too old for FSG at 60 (when he first took on the job of LFC manager) where would that leave Capello?

Here's a thought maybe Capello is looking for some money for his nice little retirement scheme and maybe he could snare a few people who know nothing about Football?

What doya think?

Red Indian is one of the keyboard warriors responsible for Kenny losing his job, wants instant success now and any views he may have are of no interest to me

He certainly knows nothing about the history of this club and the ethos of our loyal supporters
Tel 1949

Coppello has a great CV.
You can't base him on a poor England squad because whoever is England coach will fail because the England hype isn't reality. I love my country and hope and support us when we play but we arnt the world class team the media portray us to be every tournament.
Coppello is a good tactician and a natural winner with a no nonse approach.
I still don't believe he will be manager of Liverpool though.

Capello's won the league with every club he's been at, international management is completely different to club level and how someone can accuse another poster of knowing nothing about football when their only knowledge of Capello is his stint as manager of the England shambles is embarrassing. Capello's a very smart tactician and football man, any club would be lucky to have him. He won't be coming to Liverpool so it's a moot point but some people really need to learn about football

Red Ollie

I Love you too Tel 1949..

Red Indian
Ps:According to you it is mark of loyal supporters to doubt other supporters and question their love.It also their ethos to place them above others who love LFC. You are one hell of a Loyal supporter my friend.wish you well in life.

Hello Ed002,
is it true that Benitez is coming back to LFC as a manager? That would be in contadiction to the owners plan to hire a young manager like AVB, Guardiola or Martinez. Could please make a comment? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I really don't know who the manager will be - but there has been an indirect approach made to Benitez.}

No way not benitez again

Why not, as you can see on this forum one man's meat is another man's poison. It's not as if we have droves of managers banging at the Shankley gates to take the managers job. Whoever gets the job should get the support of all Liverpool Fans. YNWA

Care to see what Liverpool will look like in the not too distant future? Look no further than Randy Lerner's Aston Villa.

The biggest club in the city, well respected with a great history. Not so long ago Villa were playing good football and were gunning for a Champions League place under Martin O'Neill. The future of the club looked great.

Then came the belt tightening and cost cutting. Villa dispensed with O'Neill's services and the managerial merry-go-round began.

Villa gave the well respected Gerard Houllier a shot at restoring past glories. The job was too much for Gerard and he left a few months later after mixed fortunes.

The following summer Randy Lerner flogged the clubs best players, instead focusing on youth to take the club forward.

Big Eck was hired and Villa dropped down the league table like a lead baloon, supporters revolted demanding change.

Villa survived relegation by the skin of their teeth and sacked Big Eck the following day.

What happens at Villa next is anybody's guess? The future doesn't look too rosy though.

Milner, barry, downing, young, bent

they had such a great english spine at one point

Please can people stop being so negative about the American owners, if anyone has any doubt about where the club is heading I suggest you look at what they have done with the Boston Red Sox, it's all about being the top of the respective sports, they aren't here to balance the books and they wouldnt be happy with a mid table team.
All of the rumours about selling all stars and no budget for new players is all media talk, otherwise what would be the sense of getting rid of King Kenny? They would have just stuck with him and gave him no budget if this was the case. I think we need to judge them from their actions, not from rumours / newspapers.
IOM Red

I wonder if IOM Red will still be singing FSG's praises when Luis Suarez is sold this summer?

To be honest I wouldn't know what to think, I would obviously prefer to keep him but it would depend on who would replace him, we'll have to wait and see mate
IOM Red

The situation at Villa is and was completely different. The OP is like saying 'the UK and Greece are both European countries so the UK will end up like Greece'. Villa refused to spend money for years, but built a really good team under O'Neill thanks to a smart transfer policy and solid youth foundations. The owners were unwilling to invest to take the squad to the next level, ie. CL football. The club's good form, failure to move to the next level, and relative 'small club' reputation compared to the bigger clubs meant that many of their top players left over a short period; Barry, Milner, Friedel, Young, Downing. After O'Neill left there was no unity, especially with so many players gone. The owners made a couple of signings but didn't re-invest half the money that the sales had recouped, meaning they had to rely on their youth players with a very trim squad. There's no way that teams can take our best players like they took Villa's, and there's no indication so far that the owners are unwilling to spend. So a silly post really

Hi Macca - Always very interested in your opinions/ITK's.

My question is the following: With the new way of structuring the club and the manager being predominantly being a coach as opposed to a manager (i.e transfers etc), will this deter potential candidates who would want to mould there own team? Also Txiki Begiristain was massively influential for Barcelona, any chance of him actually being interested in the Liverpool Project.

20 May 2012 14:17:26
As a younger liverpool fan I dnt really remember them in there pomp.the best times I've had as a fan is the rafa era,yes there were some bad buys but there were some world class ones too, some of witch are still our strongest players ie.skrtel,agger,reina,Lucas.it would be easy to say bring rafa back but I would really like to see avb or laudrup get offered the job first, both young and play great football.rafa would still be above Martinez and most of the other realistic names mentioned though but that's just my opinion.
I would also not be sad to see Suarez go.world class he might be but the way Liverpool were dragged through gutter because of him is wrong,

20 May 2012 14:21:22
Is anybody else getting increasingly annoyed with the owners continuing to leave us fans in the dark? Cheers

ToonRed

No because that is the liverpool way!

clm96p

We can't have it both ways. We say we're happy that things are back to the Liverpool way by keeping everything in house until the time is right to make an announcement, and then people complain that they're keeping us in the dark. It's impossible to tell the fans things, without the press and everyone else finding out as well. We just need to trust them, hope that they're taking advice from the right people, and wait for what will hopefully be good news when official announcements are made.

Hi Ed002 sorry if you have answered this but would just like to know your opinion on AVB.
Was he a decent manager? Did he find it hard with so many experienced players the same age around him and that's why it didn't work out due to respect?
Given time do you think he would of been a quality manager as his record at Porto proved?
Just curious as I have a feeling he will become our new manager,
cheers
Skurks {Ed002's Note - He is a really nice and knowledgable guy - he was simply not ready for a job like Chelsea - nor I suspect Liverpool. There is more learning to do in terms of recognising the need to adapt and change.}

If he is knowledgeable as a bloke/manager then he would've learnt much more from his time at chelsea than he has at any other time in his short managerial career.

Cheers for the insight Ed.

I've been reading posts from people slamming FSG because they might be wary of shelling out big bucks. FSG are not scared to spend big; they did for KD, but most of it was flushed down the pan on dodgy transfers. These people should ask themselves if they would be happy for someone to waste millions of pounds of their own money, even if that someone was KD. Calm down everyone, wait and see what happens before sharpening your knives!

What are you talking about, they spent £20 mill, less than Stoke. They have reduced the wage bill considerably by selling high earners and bringing in younger players on lower wages. Notwithstanding the fact that Kenny didn't cost them a great deal as a manager.

Ozone

My bet is that FSG will not even own LFC in 3yrs time and once again, we'll be left in the debris. Just hope I'm wrong? Really finding hard to be optimisic about American owners that know nothing about football. Knowledge of introvert American sports don't mean jack s**t!
kidmillions

Kenny might have spent £110 milliin on players.Fsg's outlay is approx £36 milliin ( approx) on transfer dealings. Over 3 windows it is hardly excessive.

They want the maximum achievement for the minimum investment, it's the Yankee Way!

AVB to be manager by end of week with Louis Van Gaal as director of football

Not Bad at all .

What would be the point of employing half of the names mentioned on here as Manager then constraining any ideas they had with an unrealistically low doesn't make sense? Martinez makes sense with our owners? Try to read between the lines. They want maximum achievement for minimum outlay. It's the Yankee Way!!

Anyone see Falcao's goal yesterday? Incredible talent, hate to say it, but that's a £35million striker. Hopefully Andy will be just as good when he reaches his peak.

Would love him at LFC maybe if Avb takes the reigns he can take him from Madrid.

He'd cost only £26m right now. if we had 30m to spend plus player sales I'd want him and Elia £7m, Lodeiro Free, Granero £6m, Jackson Martinez £5m. that would cost around £40m

sell
Aquilani 5m
Cole £3m
Amoo £1m
Eccleston £1m
Darby £750k
Spearing £3m
Adam £4m

= £17m
a net spending of 23m

reina, doni, gulacsi
skrtel, carra, sama
agger, coates, Wisdom
Johnson, Kelly, Flanagan
Enrique, Robinson, Mendy, Smith
lucas, henderson, shelvey

Downing, Sterling,
Suarez, kuyt, pacheco
Falcao, Carrol, Martinez

I honestly believe that, if the owners want serious success next season then I think they need to appoint a new manager by the end of the week (friday latest) and then give them a serious budget and let them, and the dof, buy who thay want with it. I think that for me Rafa would be a good signing and also laudrup and rijkaard any of these would do for me! but lets see

What's the latest on André Villas-Boas ? If we forget the time he had at Chelsea and look at his Porto record and the fact he is young, get's his team'sto play attractive football and would cost nothing in my eye's he should be given the chance.

I really do hope the 'get Kenny out' bas****s are happy with themselves. You should hang your heads in shame.

Ere, ere. I second that.

We support the club not one man, you should think about doing the same, hang your head in shame

I don't think the owners listened to fans to relieve Kenny of his duties, if that was the case they would have signed Benitez by now, they have set a target for Kenny and that target was not achieved they are businessmen 1 +1 always = 2 for them if 1+1 = 1.5 that is bad business so the person in charged had to go.

The club first always we did not do well enough last year we are not bar stewards we want our club to progress kd fantastic player sad but need better performances

Would love to see Rafa back in charge albeit with his wings clipped. Given the other names being bandied about then he is head and shoulders above them. Would have had Klopp but thats not to be, so in my opinion Rafa is the man for the job. If he is given serious money to spend too then its a no-brainer for me. I cant help but remember having the likes of Barca and Real Madrid dreading getting us in the Champions League draws... Im not into rose tinted nostalgia, he had his faults and hr could be frustratingly defensive when we had some awesome players about disposal. Two champions League FINALS and you dont want him back ! Tell me we are better for him leaving ! !

To all with no patiance. If you run a business and you need to hire new staff you don't just find the ones with the best stats. You interview a short list of candidates and see who you think bests suits the club. I'm not sayin I know what's goin on this is just what I've read. The owners have narrowed the short list because the fans are moaning about it taking too long. Also to you moaning about Rodgers turning us down. I'm sure it has nothing to do with our position he probably just has the comman seance to realise that this job is too big for him right now and if it goes bad could damage his rep. And finally to all the we're amid table team now get used to it people just look at spurs there players are average with the exception of a few it's just a case of the right manager for the right team. There players fit well with his style. I just hope who ever gets the job gets time not just from the owners but from the fans who like nothing more than slating people at the club that they deem not good enough and in many cases you deem them not good enough befor they even come to the club. How do we know mick McCarthy not the man to lead us forward. I'm not sayin I want him for a second I'm saying even if we get a manager most people don't want please just give him a chance. If he knows he has support then it might give him the confidence to really go for it instead of playing it safe trying to avoid mistakes.
Have patiance and give the new man a chance.

Do you mean tom ince i cant see how selling paul all them years ago is really relevant but ill indulge you it was terrible lol should never have happened why did we sell paul incei know he,s probably in his early forties but he could still do a job in our midfiled

You mean Tom Ince right?

Paul or Tom? In either case it was the right call

I think Paul Ince is much too old for Premiership football now, the game would pass him by. however his son Tom looks a prospect

He wanted to leave and refused the contract offer. Nothing we could do.

Should have paid the lad a little more to stay. Instead we bought Downing for 20m. Ince couldn't have done any worse.

Ozone, you are completely full of it. You are one of the ones I most reguarly seeing slagging off the team when we draw or lose. Again, you just want something to have a winge about. Cheer up mate!

Fowler99

I think ozone has eventually to put away the 'I love kenny' poster and get on board the liverpool train

Puzzled

Come on guys Rafa take us 2 CL final and its a great job.

What did nice football get us, 8th and the carling cup. What did defensive football get Chelsea, fa cup and champions league. These are facts I am talking about.

Ozone is partly right...3 wembley appearances and brilliant football at times. Unfinished project scuppered by impatient no named and no brained keyboard warriors. Real LFC supporters knew it was going to be an uphill struggle after the epic cockup craeted by Hicks and Gillete.

I for one would support RAFA if he was given the job. he will have learnt from his past mistakes and could be the reaal deal now

I got it, i have a brilliant idea!

So, now we are basically the only club in the league without debt problems. Thats great.

So why dont we get debt problems.....youre thinking im crazy but hear me out!

Roman loaned chelsea 200 mill, fairs, obviously the apr wouldnt of compared to what a banks would be.

Why dont we just take out a 150 mill loan? and spend it all on top quality. When we used to have debt problems at least we was succeeding on the pitch!

And if the new company (naming rights) are building the stadium, with their own money, what have we got to lose?

Ben the red {Ed002's Note - Sadly your knowledge of football finance is a little off kilter Ben.}

Thank f... You're not our new CEO

Your insane

Guys if you failed to see the sarcasm in it then i apologise. I will use a different keyboard next time.

However even with it being a joke, theres a little method to the madness. The owners want to stabilize which is good, but it means lower wages, and transfer funds. How are we going to compete? We are going to sink into a mid table team if we are not willing to take risks.

Ben the red

What have we to lose? You mean besides the stadium, squad, global brand, pl status, not to mention all the non playing staffs jobs, but hey, what does that matter if we get 4th. I hope you are very young Ben and simply naive, because if yo are over 25 I fear for your personal finances. One word, Leeds

Andy H

How? The same way Dortmund competed - no dominated - after being in financial crisis. The same way Juventus competed - no dominated - after being relegated.

It's called being smart. It's why humans rule the planet even though many animals are much stronger.

Im 21 and im pretty sure my finances would out weigh yours pal....if you want to get personal that is :)

Hi guys, Chelsea fan here in peace. Just want to say thanks to the many of you who have posted on the Chelsea page offering your congratulations. As we all know football is a game and the friendly banter is enjoyed as part of it. Good luck with your search for a manager, i hope you find someone suitable to take you back to the top 4. Lets hope next season is better for us both in the league.

He will have a transfer budget of 15 mill + all money from sales. Say bye to cole, Saurez , skirtle, Adams & carra, who will be taking on a coaching role. We will be welcoming Carlton Cole, Adam Johnson Hangaaland and some 18 year old turkish wonderkid not sure of name , meant to be new Fowler . & how do i know this well my mum sleeps with one of Chris best friends and he explained all over dinner. Oh and a side note if he gets champions leauge place owners will pay for any and all transfer targets the following season

Anybody else getting an awful feeling of deja-vu?

Penny pinching American owners sacking managers on a whim, expecting miracles on a shoestring budget, PR disasters a plenty...ring a bell anyone?

Americans for you pal. I said it when they first took over, it was predictable and not hard to see through the spin. I got shot down in flames by some of the Ed's because like many others, they interpreted their acquisition as saving the club.

Ozone

Are you for real??

Ash

Shoe string budget what over 100 million some shoe string that mate.Terry

100 million is Shoestring. Must be hell of a big shoe!

Do the maths Terry. A net spend of £35m isn't going to turn Liverpool into a top 4 club anytime soon is it?

Tottenham and arsenal never spent that much, enough said so you do your maths soft lad.Terry

How odd, Ash, the man who has never posted a single positive comment about a Liverpool player or manager, is questioning anyone who dares to criticise FSG. Have no fear Ash, you will have someone else to moan about eventually. I echo the concerns of the original poster regarding FSG.

Red Owl

Still trolling my posts Red Owl? I thought you stopped supporting Liverpool after Kenny left?

Funny how it's been you that has been complaining non-stop recently. There's questioning FSG, and then there's simply telling lies. A budget of £113 million is quite simply, NOT a shoestring budget. The statement is a lie.

We finished 8th in the league and I saw it coming, which is why I was quite negative. Or are you happy with that?

Great site.
Can you name any possible transfer targets for the summer that we have a real good chance of singing.
YNWA

None. There's no one to do the deal. We haven't even got he personally to make the phone call to enquire. Joke yonks. We should all take a lead from the French. Celebrate the croissant, get rid of the free market principle once and for all. Tax them to the hilt.

Ozone

Jesus it's only half one and Ozone's already half cut

Funny how we are conducting a search for manager and DOF without anyone to answer the phones? Funny how we spent 110 milllion on players, largely wasted by Kenny.

Let's get rid of the free market. Great idea. I hear they have a lot of great football clubs in North Korea. And life is great, too.

Kneejerk anti-American.

Football clubs are like the economy - do you grow by reduce deficit through austerity or through investment?

I think the choice of manager will determine which route FSG are going on with Liverpool as one of their assets.

But will the fans, the source of their profits, buy in to their choice if is is austerity?

Yes and it's a joke. Football clubs should be Associations like they are in Argentina. Owners come and go, us fans are their for life. Foreign investors landing on our club and using it as a vehicle to enhance other aspects of there business community. It's a joke.

Ok i'll get slated for this but oh well.
Yes we have finished outside of the top 6 for a few seasons. Yes we don't have the spending capabilities of city or chelsea etc. And yes we might not be able to attract the top players. But we are still Liverpool F.C and we still do have some top players! If we can keep hold of Suarez, Skrtel and Agger...they are TOP players. And then you look at the likes of Carroll who could potentially become a TOP player, Lucas when he returns and we still have Stevie (even if he is at the latter stages of his career). My point being that if we can carry on gelling next year, we won't be far off the top 4. And if we can get a few bargains in the window to add more pieces to the jigsaw, i'm quietly confident. Look at how well Newcastle have done (they didn't have much money).
If you look at some of the football we've played over the past season, it's been some quality stuff and we've not got what we deserved. So let's get behind our team. If we finish 10th next season, i'll still support us all the same! I think we're better than that which is why i'm not saying we're 'a midtable team'.
As for the manager situation, admit i have no idea what FSG are going and am concerned but let's just see how it maps out. And take it from there.
All this doom and gloom is depressing me. We can get back to where we once were. We all need to stick together (players, owners and most of all us fans)!

Guys, there is going to be a lot of crap written in the press. They just love it when the garden at LFC isn't rosy as it gives them the chance to stick the knife in further. Let's be patient n see who FSG bring in as manager and also in other positions. Last season was a disaster for LFC on so many levels. If players want to leave then they can go, they will be replaced. Don't believe all the nonsense you read about players being sold, slashed transfer budgets etc

I'd say there is some truth in whats written

You know the oul saying

No Smoke without Fire

And we certainty seem to have a big probelm

The only question is can
FSG stop the contagion?

You know about Lemmings and all that, don't you?

I don't 'know about Lemmings' who does he play for

eds, really hope this gets posted, today the daily mail (I know not very reliable, but that's where this is from) have reported that fabio capello is not interested in taking over chelsea, but does have an interest in taking over liverpool, from what's written in the report, it doesn't look like fabio capello actually publicly proclaimed an interest in liverpool, so my questions are, do you know if capello does have an interest in taking over at anfield? and also, if he is interested, do you think there's a chance FSG will interview him?
YNWA {Ed002's Note - If he has said he is interested I would believe him. I have no idea if he will be interviewed.}

Capello is a terrible manager

Why would anyone want him?

Please God don't inflict Capello on LFC and keep AVB away too

He is a good manager, check his trophy cabinet, his style of play may not be to your liking but he wins games

How many years ago was Capello a good manager

10 years ago I was amonst the best software engineers but not any more

I don't think FSG have what it takes to make LFC a football powerhouse again.
The owners don't seem to be able to make the very real changes that are required, due to a lack of funds and need I say vision, and a true understanding of football.
I for one hope they figure this out soon, and sell up to owners with real ambition.
Sorry FSG, you just do not inspire any confidence, your approach is wrong, this is football not baseball.
No Manager.
A legend sacked.
No stadium or plans.
Budgets slashed.
Players wanting to leave.
Sacking numerous top executives.

FSG = Haven't a clue!.

They are sacking people because they aren't doing theeir jobs well which shows they want the club to succeed

Don't believe everything you read in the tabloids or on their websites.
How do you know there are no plans for the stadium?
Yes we have no manager, but I'm sure I've seen somewhere that we are currently looking at various candidates.
Why shouldn't the budgets be slashed? It's their money.
How do you know there are players wanting to leave. Even if there are, let them go. I don't want anyone to be at LFC that doesn't want to be there.
So what that they've sacked a few people. if they've underperformed or no longer fit in with the way they want to move the club forward then that's fair enough.
I think I even saw mentioned that we were looking for replacement for most if not all the positions made vacant by people leaving.

Just get over yourself.

Tis the American way of Business

Everyone should just chill out.It takes time and FSG are not stupid were their money goes. so i think they will pick the right man in the end. Would you rather them get the wrong manager now and things get worse or wait till the right man. I know what i would go for. Rome was not built in a day.

To 'just get over yourself', that's all well and done. If they arrived and outlined a brief of that nature from the outset, so be it but we've had to endure the 'we're winners' Yankee doodle big mouth clap trap. They're cheap con artists out to bolster other aspects of their business community. They can afford to tamper with Liverpool as a business because they acquired us on the cheap through a distressed sale. They'll get their money back all day long when the economy improves whilst in the meantime hey have used us to give their other brands such as 'Warrior' global coverage.

Ozone

I'm sorry - don't like to get into personal stuff but I can only take so much of the rubbish that pours from Ozone's keyboard.
All we hear is left wing,anti-American ( to coin a phrase) clap-trap. Just take some time off kid and just READ the posts for a while.Give us all a rest

Puzzled {Ed002's Note - He has gone for a little wander in teh woods after getting carried away. He'll be back in a few days refreshed no doubt.}

FSG are just plain wrong.

Red Owl

How do you not grasp the fact that football is now more than ever, big commercial business. They need to try and put Liverpool up there competing financially. You have to have a business model in any business.

They want to win, football is changing Ozone, get over it and cheer up fella! Although I'm sure you will be able to come up with a few more whines in regards to the manager, the DOF and all players signed all just not being good enough this summer ;)

As we all wait eagerly in anticipation of the managerial appointment, I thought it a good time to look back on the career of Kenny Dalglish.

For the older supporters with short memories who have slated him on here and for the younger supporters who never had the pleasure of seeing him play or manage first time round, I have written a poem which explains why he is such a legend.

KENNETH MATHIESON DALGLISH

He came here from Scotland in Seventy Seven,
With a smile as wide as the Mersey,
Playing like a footballer sent down from heaven,
He was so proud to wear the red jersey.

In no time at all, the goals they soon flowed,
The shots, the headers and the chips,
Rustling the nets at the Kop and Annie Road,
Every one brought a smile to our lips.

In May Seventy Eight, with his delicate finish,
We beat Bruges to retain the European Cup,
Our pursuit of the silverware didn't diminish,
The count of titles won went up and up.

After violence at Heysel, lives lost for no reason,
It was Kenny who stepped up to the plate.
He delivered the Double in his very first season.
To score the winner at The Bridge, it was fate.

When Rush and Souness departed, to play overseas,
King Kenny knew it was time to rebuild,
With Aldo, Beardo and Barnes, won titles with ease,
Playing stylish football that kept the Kop thrilled.

When Hillsborough ripped the heart from our City,
Kenny was hurting and crying just like us.
Comforting families and condemning the guilty.
Despite the toll on his health, he made no fuss.

In January last year, he answered the call,
And we gloried in the return of King Kenny,
He banished relegation worries in no time at all,
But needed more time and he didn't get any.

John Henry, at Wembley, showed his true colours,
With ignorance, he didn't shake the King's hand.
He may be a successful businessman,
But Liverpool FC, he will never understand.

If he did, he'd have known, we look after our own,
When times are tough we just become stronger,
That's why Kenny Dalglish will never walk alone,
And he'll remain in Scouse hearts for much longer.

I am getting so tired of all the so called supporters suddenly having a go at the owners, because they are not willing to shell out hundreds of millions on transfer fees and they are taking their time picking the right manager.

When are people going to realise we are not in a position to spend loads of money. The owners are being sensible. They are not looking to put loads of debt onto the club (ala Glaziers), they are not looking to spend beyond the clubs means (ala Leeds - Borrowed loads of money to bring in players, expecting to get into the CL, didn't make it so had to sell best players to pay back money borrowed.)

I have a feeling teams like Man City and Chelsea who spend tons of money are going to be in for a nasty shock in the future, owners getting bored or deciding to put debt on to the club.

Before multi-millionaires took over football clubs and used them as play things, clubs spent within their means or some took out loans, but spent sensible money. Its heading back that way.

I expect us to be run like Arsenal, spend within our means, wage caps etc. Maybe that's what Dein is advising the club on.

We want success, we want immediate success, but don't we all want sustained success as well?

All I'm saying is lets give them a chance, they have been in charge what 18 months, made a managerial change when they brought in KK, he did better than anyone expected. So they gave us what we wanted and made him permanent, things didn't work out the best, so they have moved KK on (I was gutted about that.) Now they are looking to run the club the way they see it should be run.

I would like either AVB or Laudrup (I dont think Guardiola is going to happen), but I will support whoever they employ to my last breath, whether I agree with it or not. That's what it means to be LFC, that is why so many past players (whoever have played for LFC or not ala Klinnsman, Henry) and managers have such a great affection for the club and that is why we are the greatest club in the world, lets start acting like it again.

YNWA
SA

Man city an chelsea won't be in shock get real.

If we spend like Arsenal what will we get?

What has arsenal won in the last 6-7 years?

The answer I am sure you know is nothing

Without money in football you can buy success

Money might not be able to buy love butit can buy pl;ayers of the highest quality

Arsenal are highly financial in theitr own right, play quality football, are in the CL every year. We did win something and nearly a second and the manager's head was called for. I prefer the Arsenal model to any other in PL.

Interesting to read in the sun website with roy keane that the owners want instant success though they have a policy of buying young players with bigger sell on value and with that we could spend another 100m wed stil not be any closer. They meed to realise young peoples great for future but if thry want instant success like top4 we need proven talent wither they are 29 or so forget sell on value everything seems to be in future there not adopting the right approach and if they continue to implement this this summer then this aint going to get any better they want young players and they blame manager for not setting workd a light well good cgance they wont for years. Then u read storys about fsg refusing to finance jelavic with 5! Million. Another set of yanks who are doing no good to make up for the faith thats been lost in them in last few months. Buy huge prices but dont pay 5m for a topgoalscorer nobody new he was going to be great in PL but worth the risk considering what wev spent with risking downing. Dont forget liverpool did try to get young and jones so not like kenny didnt want quality players

As a Liverpool fan, why are you reading that rags website?

AD

Areyou saying your a liverpool fan who reads the first paper you mentioned no self respecting reds fan would ever read that paper or web site never mind come on a liverpool web site quoting it unless your from abroad and dont know better but if your not shame on you for reading the drivel it comes out with

What I'd like to know is why a Liverpool supporter is reading the Sun website?

Hang your head in shame lad.

Well I think it is an indictment of our education system that ANYONE would read the Sun. Not for the reason the people on here say, but I have always thought it was for people who cannot read a paper without mouthing the words at the same time

Anybody who's saying definitively who the next manager is talking bull. Some haven't even been approached about the interview process, and it's quite clear the owners don't have a clue as to who theyre going to hire yet, so how could you possibly know?!

20 May 2012 12:51:53
I sadly think that we LFC fans (myself included), still see our team as 'something' we are no longer.
Yes, we have a great history, success etc, but we are not part of the 'super elite' of Europe anymore. We are on the outside looking in, and our own 'reflection' in the glass (as we peer through the window) is confusing us, as we see LFC among those on display, whereas truthfully we are just a reflection.

Yes finally..someone else can say exccept me all the time
i hate to see it...but i know its reality
i see liverpool as a team like juventus..who won countless trophies many yrs ago..and faded away
and juventus jus won the title this yr after many yrs in the wilderness not competing in europe or the league and lfc need time to be amongst the top teams again.

Spot on.
The first step in any recovery process, is actually recognising you 'have a problem', then addressing it.
I see many similarities between LFC and Juve.
Sadly LFC are still out in the wilderness.
We are like a 'antique', precious and irreplacable to some, but in truth 'the market' (in this case the football establishment) will ultimately decide its true value.
Forbes values the club at 1/4 or 1/5 than that of Man U, so there's the reality, hard to swallow but its the truth.
Antiques are somewhat pretty and beautiful, but spend most of their time 'on display' and are hardly functional and durable!.

20 May 2012 12:34:42
Please dont tell me this story is true in sunday express. I see we are making huge losses but we cant afcord to slash transfer budgets the only wan to keep up in modern day is spending doesent need to be in scale of man coty especially when we havent already got the talent of a top 4 side. The owners want champs league football but arent prepared to part with the cash to do so.we say thev spent 120m they havent ther net spend is like 60/70m after torres. That simply isnt good wnough for what we need. Is it me or are the owners doing everything they can to get on the wrong side of the liverpool fans theve got a lot of questions to answer. Funny also that ayre keeps saying wel keep improving but yet newspaper reports are stating slashing budgets and so on. Storys without substance without quotes or not?

Cash,...David moyse does not get bundels

Firstly the owners don't have large amounts of cash to spend

And secondly Moyes does not get top 4

Moyes also keeps his job and is revered in the Premier after ten years of winning nothing.

Been to anfield for many years,I've even been for the tour around the stadium.i will be honest it is a s#%t hole,we have wooden seats in some sections of the ground.the stadium is out of date.we need to move out and build a 65k-80k stadium.im not bothered about what the stadium is called, football is all about money now,the longer we leave it the further we get left behind.all the big teams like man u,barca, real Madrid, bayern,ac Milan etc have big stadiums

Wats wrong with wooden seats,my toilet has a wood seat, don't you think there's other things to worry about

Yeah like you said, "all the big teams"...Liverpool....not a big club anymore. Not a big club in Europe, not in Britain, England, the north and not even the biggest club in Liverpool anymore

Anfield is a antique, beautiful but still old and outdated.

Fully agree sacking kk and new manager search a smokescreen created by yonks so people forget about new stadium . another summer gone by no stadium plans . the search for manager should be second to new stadium. now not in the future . the new stadium is our future. as quoted these yanks want it like arsenal where you make a profit every year and winning anything is second to profit.

we want a stadium now

20 May 2012 12:26:00
I think LFC as a major force in English and European football are finished,I can't see us attracting top class players anymore as we do not have the money or the status of Cl football, and we have already become a team in the middle tier of premiership football

alan50

Your positive :S

I`m sorry , but have to disagree, we played some fantastic football and out played most teams, our problem was infront of goal, we missed so many chances and if we had scored 15-20 goals more , these goals could of killed of games for the 3 points, or got us a point at least, infact it could of amounted to another 15-20 points, which would of given us champions league.
Now I dont think what I have said was unrealistic, if we had bought a striker in jan then I do think we would not be in this situation right now.
As for attracting the worlds best players, no we don`t have a lot of chance when they are demanding £250000 a week after all taxes, stupid wages.
So look at the whole picture, our league position , although not good did not really reflect our play.
2-3 good players this summer, 1 must be an out and out striker and this time next season you`ll be wondering what the fuss was about.
So why is everyone looking on the negative and why not biuld on the positives.
FSG will get a good manager, you should thank them for not just rushing it, as we could of ended up with Souness again!!
Lets just get behind our team and look forward and not backward.

out spoken as ever
kevc

I'm with you on that Alan, I am in fact starting to think like a mid table fan. It is what it is, us fans will never change. My heart will always feel like its jumping out of my chest when the reds score irrespective of where we are. The start of the problem in football ownership and the perils it brings start with the birth of Sky and global media networks.

Ozone

What a shining light of reality in a mire of pessimism! Your post kevc is spot on and I couldn't have said it better myself.

I love Kenny to bits for everything he's done for the club but it was time for change. The owners have invested and will continue to invest plenty of their own money, and the only way for them to get this back is from success on the pitch, which by coincidence is exactly what we as supporters also want. It doesn't take a whole lot of thought to see that their aims are the same as ours, however they as owners may see a different way of achieving that goal.

I posted last nite bout alot of money going on harry redknapp being next manager hes now 7/1 same as rafa?what u recon ed?anychance? I cant see it. I really wouldnt be suprised if we go for di mateo tho as i think capello will take over at chelsea tho i think that would be beyond after di matteo has won CL i just got a feeling a deals already in place for capello.

Why would we want a fair weathered spiv like Rednapp at Anfield Lee?

Hi Eds (prob Ed002 mainly)

Just catching up on the posts from yesterday and noticed your comments in relation to it being a good night for LFC because we now don't have to go through the 3rd qualifying stage of Europa.

However, I have seen a few sources elsewhere (including dalejohnsonespn) commenting that because of the circumstances of Chelsea taking the 4th champions league spot that the FA cup position that had been won by Chelsea now reverts to the Premier League position and therefore Spurs. Therefore, nothing would have changed for us in relation to Europa qualifying and our need to start earlier and play more games.

Have you any further clarification on this situation?
Cheers
MD4

{Ed002's Note - Yes - this has all be dealt with elsewhere.}

I've heard through a friend of journalist (who's been reliable in the past) that Roberto Martinez is going to be our new manager. Leow is number 1 Chelsea target too (before last night.) hope he's wrong.

Ash

Be careful what you wish for! Eh Ash? Kenny out brigade!

Rafa Benitez is available and wants to come. Wanting Kenny out does not mean I want Martinez in. We have a ready made quality replacement as far as I'm concerned.

Ash

I would prefer benitez over martinez for sure. benitez has the experience of managing big clubs unlike martinez.

How many more posts are there going to be about Rafa and the sale of Alonso?????

Rafa wanted Barry (who had formed an excellent partnership with Gerrard for England), but H&G would not make any money available.

Alonso had come off a season (maybe even a season and a half) of playing pretty poorly. Therefore was deemeds as a saleable asset 9especially as Juventus and Arsenal were sniffing around for about the £15m-£16m mark.

For whatever reason, the sale didn't happen and it set about the chain of events that meant Alonso wanted to leave. He didn't feel wanted after he had been put up for sale.

The fact he went on to have his best season ever for was good (as we finally saw the player he was going to be when we bought him), but at the same time bad (as it would show us what we were going to miss).

Now imagine if H&G had put the money up for Barry and Alonso had stayed. That would have been quite a midfield. With loads of options and quality back-up (Gerrard, Alonso, Barry, Mascherano, Lucas).

Try to look at the whole picture and get the whole information before just putting a post up that will make you look silly.

I recommend you read the Epic Swindle book. Makes for quite an interesting read.

He wanted to swap alonso for Barry

That's like wanting to swap Suarez for Darren bent

Re-read the first post and you will see that it isn't

20 May 2012 11:59:01
Ed's can you explain to me how we are in debt when FEG took over they paid all the debts off which saved millions in interest payments,so why have we not got a wealthy sum for new signings

alann50 {Ed002's Note - Put aside the concept of debt and consider that their first year of ownership saw £50M or so in losses and this second year will see at least the same. You can search the archives for details if you want but there seems little point in explaining further here.}

20 May 2012 11:29:16
Ed's is Capello an option for the mangers role, reports claim he has distanced himself from the Chelsea job but has not denied rumours about being interested in the Liverpool gaffa seat ? imo knows the english game by now through the national team also is undoubtedly one of the best club managers still active in the world of football, would be mad not to consider it if were looking to get back to the peak of european football surley. thanks {Ed002's Note - I don't know if he is or not. Would age be an issue?}

Thanks Connor

The problem with fans on here is that they are putting all of their energies worrying about other teams, I couldnt give a s**t that Chelsea won the European Cup or not who cares ! It doesnt affect my team. We should be concentrating on who our next manager will be and what players we can bring in. We have an obsession about bringing in ex players to manage, granted that they understand the history about the club etc but so does every other footballing person, we need to build for the future and create history not go on about our past all the time !

I personally would like to see a top manager i.e. Capello at the helm with someone like Martinez as the assistant.

LondonRed86

Chelsea winning the ''Champions league'' does indeed affect our club,in as much as the initial stages of the ''Europa league''.Also fellow ''top four spot'' contenders Spurs will be financially weaker next season as a result. Two positives from LFC's point of view !! B

I rest my case.... more fans agree than not

How many of the people wanting Rafa back were calling for his head before he left.

Loads of people i know wanted him out and are now denying it saying he never should of left.

It's the same as with King Kenny.

I did to be honest, but now I realize I was rash. It's a case of "You don't know what you've got till it's gone".

Agree to some extent but Rafa was architect of his own downfall and made his position untenable himself

I think all the people that are asking for rafa to come back really need to take some time and think hard.yes he loves the club but he had his time we went back to kenny and he loves The club but was not the man to take us forward over 100m spent and finishing 8th in the league just beating Cardiff in the cup and getting the tatitics wrong for the fa cup then saying that he would not change winning the carling cup for anything not for 4th in the league? well I would! We as a club and as fans need to move on! No don't we wont Torres back,no we don't won't Owen back no we don't want rafa back He had his time! Push forward and move up. P.s think before you try and rip in to the post!

Alfiedean

I've thought - and you're wrong! Rafa was nothing like KD. How long would KD have lasted working with the cowboys? KD was ALL poor Rafa, like most managers, had his ups and downs.

Rafa is a backwards step he wasted so much money on poor players and the fact he will not have full control which he does not like even tho he has done it at other clubs and yes we all no the of the hand full of good players he bought but when you buy that many your gonna get some right and bad man manager all I have to say is Alonso and every one knows what you are talking about. Please get over it and move on!

Alfiedean.

20 May 2012 11:41:10
Just to be a downer, I think we've 'missed the boat'. We're no longer the force we were. We can't compete in the market. Top players no longer want to come to us, we're shopping for over priced decent players and not world class. Even Suarez has come at a massive price, making the club look so stupid. I can't see us challenging for the title, ever! Hope I'm wrong.

Sadsack

Its sad, but its true.

A decent manager would start to change all that

20 May 2012 11:40:44
please post, been trying for ages, quick question.. who eds do you personally think will be given the liverpool job? {Ed002's Note - I don't know who will get it.}

I personally have a sneaky suspicion that Laudrup will get it, definitely can't see it being Rafa to be honest

Laudrup's teams play attractive football but he seems to have a history of walking out early under a cloud

Squirrel

Walking out early seems perfect for FSG they won't have to sack him when he does not achieve top 4

20 May 2012 11:38:17
Hey eds. not a rumour but a clarification request please. Does the chavs win last night mean that Liverpool are now straight in the Wafer cup group stages or do Spurs get that and Liverpool still have to do the qualifying rounds?
Cheers {Ed002's Note - Please see other answers.}

20 May 2012 11:35:08
I'm all for clever investment and money management to a point. However I'm shocked to hear from a few sources (one inside the Anfield staff) that ground renaming will be the only way forward. Are FSG that out of touch?

I don't care as long as they get some good money for it.
We need to move with the times.
Football is evolving and we are being left behind.

You put £350 million in then mate then you can call it anfield

20 May 2012 11:34:59
Marcelo Bielsa is the only candidate that excites me. Come on FSG, make it happen.

Laudrup as manager and Txiki Bergristain as director of football would be my choice.

Chris

Why cant people understand that bielsa, whilst being a brilliant tactition an man manager, wont be considered because he isnt fluent in english..

Ed002, last season Stoke City had to play in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League as they qualified as losing FA Cup finalists. Birmingham City came in at the play off stage as League Cup winners. Therefore I'm thinking Liverpool will be in the play off stage next season. I believe that the winners of the FA Cup would have entered at the Group Stage.

Apologies in advance if I've got my wires crossed!

Macca,I think your spot on regards rafa, think he was under enormous pressure trying to balance the books by the yanks, people forget the quality players he brought in Alonso, agger, skrtel Lucas Reina maschers Torres,I know there's being few dodgy 1s to,but he set up the academy to be one of the best in Europe with the scouts getting likes of suso sterling etc,2nd in the league wit our highest points total,be careful what ye wish for looking for the likes of de boer Martinez laudrop etc wat have they really ever done!!

20 May 2012 11:10:12
Well done Torres you have joined the likes of Djimi Traore in players who didn't deserve to win a Champions League -McMenemy

Hey Djimi Traore played more mins in the final

Djimi Traore is a saint!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe Cole move to the Hammers after his loan has finished. Also, Suarez being sold or part of a swap deal is an interesting option.
On the managerial front, to be interested in the likes of Guardiola even though its doubtful, goes to show how serious the owners are because those sort of wages for a top manager isn't cheap

Ian Ayre the club's managing director has spoken to key members of the squad following the departure of Kenny Dalglish - and has now dismissed any talk of high-profile exits.

"I spoke to all our senior players and I don't think that will happen," said Ayre (Liverpool fc.tv).

I know things can change in football everyday but lets hope this is true. We need to add quality not sell.

I don't care for Chelsea at all, but haven't we won cup campaigns where we've clung on with superhuman determination in the same way? Mad comebacks in the last moments of a game? Who on here hasn't fantasized about some sugar-daddy coming along and buying us the best players available? Don't be hypocrites, have some class and be a real LFC supporter who knows football.
All I take from the final last night, was that it was enjoyable enough, as far as finals go, and that their win will more than likely weaken Tottenham considerably next season. That'll do for me.

20 May 2012 11:07:26
Im looking at the German football and how its grown i think lfc should go for German based players to bulk up the squad. Kagawa bender. Spurs out so i think man Utd go for modric

BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO TORRES AND MIERELES...

why?

cos they are right to leave..........whether they have played alot for chelsea or not

1 season............2 trophies!

simple as that

cant argue

eye opener!

Yes i can argue, they dont deserve anything, just proves chelsea were wrong to buy them, as individual players they have been poor, chelsea didnt need them

They kept pressure on the players in the team.

Sour grapes much? How can Chelsea be wrong to buy them? They have both won and FA CUp and Champions League, regardless of how well they have played or not, they are still part of their team.

Steve

20 May 2012 10:56:28
Rafa is a good manager. BUT je needs te funds to buy those first chioce on his shortlist. During H&G, he had no chioce but to buy sh*t player instead of player he wanted like Mata, silva and aguero. since FSG has better financial capability, why not let Rafa try? im sure hes pumped up to sign some quality players. (he failed at inter due to a similar reason)

Well then u have sort of answered your own question there mate, he's obviously not a great manager without money, let's move on from all this past nonsense, I like rafa and what he's achieved but now is the time to move on with new and fresh ideas, if we can't get pep, then I would love to see laudrup, if it doesn't work out with the new manager then we always know rafa will be there waiting but that said as Liverpool fans we need to 100% get behind the new manager, who ever that maybe, patience is what's needed now lads ynwa

Rediculous who wins anything in the premier league without money and what has laudrup won anywhere of any importance might as well have martinez, laudrup was a great player, doesn't make him a great manager!

20 May 2012 10:55:04
hey eds is there any truth in that suarezs agent is pep guardiolas brother and they are trying to aproach him through him? {Ed002's Note - Think more of it being a case of Suarez having a number of representatives, one of which is Guardiola's brother. I don't know that there are efforts being made to contact Guardiola via his brother though.}

20 May 2012 10:52:56
question for ed002, i have just read that you have just been told we still have to do the qualifying route for the europa league can we take this as gospel or is it not confirmed officially yet. thanks
huddz red {Ed002's Note - I would not take it as gospel yet and tomorrow being a working day for most folk would seem to be better. However, the statement regarding the FA being responsible for assignment did come from UEFA and it seems likely that it is actually true.}

Ok thanks for answering my question. congrats for last night mate.

Just relaying what I read, my opinion is I wanted him or Laudrup personally.

God help us

Google aston villa or chelsea manager and see who is in charge then.
tis odd? but kinda funny tho..

Congratulations Ed002 on Chelsea winning the Champions League. I think most Liverpool supporters can stomach Chelsea winning the FA Cup and Old Big Ears inda the bargain... If it had been Man'ure, well... lets just say, how many expletive's do you reckon one person can fit onto a page? Anyways, my main point is, I'm getting sick to the back teach with the amount of blatant anti Liverpool press out there. Words like 'Farce' 'Shambles' 'Embarressing' 'Botched' are ablaze across the papers, simply because Liverpool want to make sure they get the right man for the job. Yet, Villa and Chelsea are also in the market for a manager, but i have yet to to find ONE SINGLE NEGETIVE STORY about their search? Just today the Mirror prints a story about our American owners allegedly wanting to cut costs which means SELLING Skrtle and Suarez? Really? Headlines designed to put off any potential Manager or Players?? These kind of stories are either lazy journalism, or as I suspect, I deep seeded hatred of Liverpool FC for some unknown reason. Anyways, rant over. Congrats again...

The media have always been anti LFC and Liverpool in general. It's been going on for as long as i can remember.

The Crow

Good post , your spot on mate .
redforever

And only half a column on the alleged sacking of steve kean the press are a joke they wont be happy until were in the blue sqaure premier

Take the good with the bad peoples...it basically means the media still consider us a big club...

20 May 2012 10:42:01
I have been following the whole manager search saga and the one thing that seems to come out is that there seems to be a lot of negativity toward LFC from the newspapers and even Sky.

I stay in South Africa and don't know the a lot of the history between LFC and the media and would like to know has it always been like this or is it a more modern occurrence?

Prelen

It's been going on for years mate. Most LFC fans fell out with the press when the S*N printed a story about Hillsborough. Shocking. However they have put us down at any given opportunity since.

The Crow

UK press tends to come out of London or Manchester. This biases them. And Liverpool - the city and the fans - have taken an adversarial attitude toward them ever since their Hillsborough coverage e.g. Dalglish's interviews.

20 May 2012 10:40:25
Hi eds great site! thank you for your efforts! just wanted to ask is it true that AVB is the leading candidate to be our next manager? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea if he is the "leading" candidate, sorry.}

20 May 2012 10:39:50
NOT LFC RELATED.

The funny thing is that RDM breifed the chelsea team during extra time, whereas Ribery, robben and muller were the one talking the most, breifing bayern.Hecknes was just silent as hell.

20 May 2012 10:29:19
A simple way for FSG to pick the new manager is that they should put all managers names in a hat and pull out the winner as IMO they are on a hiding to nothing as some fans won't be happy with any of their decision and will say we will back the manager until the first loss and then the sniping will begin, this is how I see it,let's to a manager v's rafa match by the way I'm no rafa fan just a realist.

Martinez is a good up and coming and but it's to early,so rafa wins this round but would love to see Martinez as his No 2.

AvB his Chelsea reign worries me but when he was at Porto people were calling for him to be our new boss but I would still go for rafa over him.

M laudrup is another good up and coming manager who has great connections around Europe, likes to play attacking football if picked who deffo need time to adapt but would he get so rafa wins again for me.

Klopp we have no chance of getting him.

De boer the same as laudrup would need time to adapt to our league and decent investment but don't think the fickle fans would give him enough time.

Rafa would be the perfect fit if given proper funds but he comes all baggage up,he splits the fans and players down the middle with his attitude and his stubbornness and would want total control but he's not going to get it,would like him to appoint Martinez as his No 2 to groom him to be the next manager but that won't happen, my opinion is that we won't go backwards to appoint rafa so for me it's between de boer and laudrup and I would pick M Luadrup cheers pk

Nope, he'll go and spend huge amounts to achieve it again.

The RAF chap from Culdrose on the rumours page who claims he met Beckham. He sounds genuine to me. He said that Beckham claimed he did not know who the manager will be, but it will be a big surprise !
One does not have to be Sherlock Holmes.
David Beckham lives in L A.
Jurgen Klinsmann lives somewhere near there.
Next Liverpool manager = Jurgen Klinsmann !

Mate - go back to the post, it's not an RAF base its Royal Navy Fleet air arm. The fact that the guy doesn't know what armed force he is in, leads me to believe he was making the entire thing up!!
Luke

Your logic is impeccable, however Beckham also has a home in London ergo Harry Redknapp is the obvious choice. Mind you he went Spain for his holidays once so is Rafa also the obvious choice then Sherlock ?

Tel 1949

Is that why it's called RAF Culdrose?

Klinnsman lives 45 minutes or so outside of la in a small city known as mission vejo. He lives in a massive beach side house worth around 10m U.s. dollars. The beach he lives next to is unknown by me!

It is called RNAS culdrose, I work there - Royal Naval Air Station. It has nothing at all to do with the RAF!

you have pointed out about the potential of nick powell and max clayton as well for that matter at crewe.
surely with the bond we have with crewe a deal to buy and loan back both players for a season will be perfect for all parties.

Or they would snub LFC for a bigger club?

20 May 2012 09:45:47
Ed002...congrats for yesterday but winning the CL is a replica of the disaster Europe is at the moment. A club like Bayern is run to make it a profit whereas Chelsea with its billionaire oligarch can accumulate losses like there's no tomorrow and have untold resources. Something's not right. You could see Bayern have no strenght in depth. There's no level playing field until some sanity is restored in the way clubs are run. {Ed002's Note - Bayern are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world. Chelsea will spend a lot of money this year because the team has been together a long time and has gotten old. You may want to look to the ameteur game for satisfaction as whatever way you look at it, football is very much big business now - like it or not.}

20 May 2012 09:42:26
I have been a Liverpool Fan for years and have seen many highs & lows!! I am starting to lose interest as we are becoming a laughing stock! Sacking Kenny is wrong he should of been given another year, the football was good we just needed a natural finisher. Anyway we are going to get AVB who will ruin us, the Yonks are already ruining us and the whole football community no longer likes us after what happened with Suarez...............I really fear we will be a mid table team for a long, long time.....Not that that bothers me, I just want the club to go back to how it was, Classy, private and famous for all the right reasons!

Chin up lad

"I just want the club to go back to how it was"

What - the also rans we have been for the last twenty years? I don't.

Drogba has been an immense player for them.
Abramovitch also you could see last night was more than just the money man. Looked like he really really cared.

He has always cared but spurs was the club he was going to buy , but chelsea had a hotel next to the ground.

Thank God. The spurs fans would have been insufferable.

Spot on. You want to see the blue print- take a look at Randy Lerner's Aston Villa. Hope they prove us wrong.

I honestly think we've already lined up our new manager, just don't want to admit we were talking behind Kennys back for fear of the backlash it would cause. You don't leave a job before finding a new one and this is kind of the same principle isn't it. Just a thought

Just want to clarify the situation as people seem to have confused themselves on what our standing is in next seasons Europa League:

This is taken directly from the Premier League site:

"There are three places in the UEFA Europa League available: the FA Cup winners will enter at the Group Stage; the fifth place team in the Barclays Premier League will enter at the Play-Off stage; and the Football League Cup winners will enter at the Q3 stage.

In the event the FA Cup winners are qualified for the UEFA Champions League the FA Cup runners-up will qualify, but in the place reserved for the lowest ranking Barclays Premier League representative. The place with direct access to the Group Stage will be given to the club that finishes in the highest position in the Barclays Premier League of the clubs qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

English winners of the UEFA Europa League will enter at the Group Stage, gaining an extra domestic place only if they fail to qualify through other means for the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League. If the holders of the UEFA Europa League have already qualified for Europe, no extra domestic place will be gained.

Should the FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the Football League Cup winners already have qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the Premier League."

This to us means that whether we were to use the FA Cup runner-up spot, or the League Cup winner spot we will still be the lowest ranking team of the three and thus we will still enter at Qualifying Round 3. So we will not have four games less, and our season will begin on August 2nd.

Nothing ever goes our way seems like every thing is against us?

The interesting point to the Chelsea win is that we remain the 3rd team in Europe with 5 European cups and Bayern is stuck with 4 cups. Thanks Chelsea.

When Rafa Benitez left the club it was understood that Didier was approached but he had to turn down the job having just signed players for his current club, he also made promises to remain there that season.

I'm hearing that he has been contacted again, this time by FSG.

Regards,

Daniel Hanwell

Morning All...

Just read this article on football 365

www.football365.com/f365-says/7764083/Lambert-s-Euro-Education-An-Example

And I've got to say after reading it, and knowing & watching them over the season, I would say as a club we couldn't do any worse than go for Paul Lambert.

My preferred choice is Rafa, especially after watching the plastics last night.

However knowing lambert's background - only British player to win CL at non-British club, taught & mentored by the mighty ottmar Hitzfeld (der general), did his coaching badges in Getmany where they are far more into detail and preparation than we'll ever be over here, a man who went to watch Barca train at la masia to see how it's done at the best, has to be the kind of guy we would want in charge.

Granted we won them quite easily at theirs but at anfield they were good, even outplayed us at times. And they have shown over the season against all teams, they can adapt and play good football.

out of Martinez/Rodgers/lambert, for me there is only one choice - the scot!

My preference is Rafa. Right now he is what we need...experienced, knowledge of the league and Europe and above all a fans favourite (most). He will make us believe.

All this talk of politics etc. I think he'll have learnt plus wont be allowed to get involved in any of that with the new set-up.

As for the defensive footy...he's a pragmatist, as in he'll do per game what is needed. And to be quite honest we need to start winning before can be fussy about the style! Afterall Kk played nice footy but the league don't lie.

Lambert, out of the 3 mentioned....I'd certainly give him a chance

Sinner21

What about mcmanaman, he won the champions league with real madrid

Morning eds congrats on the champions league ed02 do you think roberto will get the fulltime job? after all its all roman has ever really wanted. and do chelsea fans want him as full time manager? and if he dosnt get the chelsea job do you think fsg will be interested in him becoming lfc manager? 1 more question i promise lol is it true about the owners offering suarez a 25% pay increase to stay i read it a couple of days ago either in the liverpool echo or on the bbc cheers CRAIG {Ed002's Note - No decision has been taken over the Chelsea job just yet but there would be nothing stopping Liverpool approaching him. I don't know what Liverpool are planning contract wise with Suarez.}

Do you really want liverpool playing that way. throughout the champions league and premiership season since he became in charge chelsea seemed to play a 9-0-1 formation. he make benitez seem attacking. i was shocked that he didn't ask the referee to sacrafice a penalty taker in exchange for having a player on the line last night

Morning Eds

Why oh Why do people want Rafa back.He took us as far as he could. The last straw for me was the signing of Aquilani who was injured for nearly 1/2 the season,He forced Alonso out the club and wanted Barry.

We should be looking to the future not the past.

AVB or Martinez for me .

Yesterdays post regarding Martinez below

What is the big deal from supporters regarding Martinez,Yes Wigan are down the wrong end of the table every year, but every year they survive. You have to give credit where it is due,He has a shoe string budget but still manages to surprise the so called big teams in the league

24/03 beat us 2-1
11/04 beat UTD 1-0
16/04 beat Gooners 2-1
28/04 beat NCL 4-0

He has a set philosophy on the way the game should be played and he should be applauded for that.

I for one are of the opinion this guy has the potential to be one of the great managers.

REDFORLIFE

Agree he is gonna be a great manager one day and your post is a great read but have a gut feeling its a bit to early in his career for us I maybe wrong just a gut feeling.

Alfiedean

You really need to read the Epic Swindle book.
Don't take stuff you read in the press as gospel and give Rafa the respect he deserves.

Martinez or AVB. No Rafa please. We cant wait another 6 years watching dros.

Got to agree with you there , martinez will def go to a big club at some stage , his style of play would be so good for us , cant understand why so many fans want to go backwards with rafa , It was so boring at times watching his team play , him writing stuff down on a very litte pad , and ffs , not a sniff of emotion , when we scored .
redforever

I never said I had a problem with Rafa .I stated I thought he had taken us s far as he could . Again we should be moving forwards not backwards

REDFORLIFE

How about when martinez took over from steve bruce at wigan wigan finished eleventh with bruce in charge then relegation battle ever since martinez took over by that logic steve bruce is the better manager he did better with wigan but wouldnt want him any where near either

20 May 2012 09:18:24
Ed do you know if laurent blanc or jochim low are being considered for the lfc job? {Ed002's Note - I would doubt it but that is simply an opinion.}

20 May 2012 09:18:15
I am amazed as to how many people are calling for rafa to come back. There is no denying that he loves all things that are Liverpool and the pictures of him breaking down at the hillsborough memorial service were moving enough to bring a tear to my eye. As a man I have the utmost respect for him, but in no way do I want him back. People seem to have forgotten the slow, negative football we played and zonal marking would make me s**t scared at every corner. I don't think I could handle all the drama that rafa brings, I think we've all had enough of that the last 3 yrs to last a lifetime. all I want is to see Liverpool playing attractive, attacking footy and where teams are s**t scared of playing us. there is no way we would get that under rafa. cheers, big steve177.

Have you ever considered that the football played related to the players he had at his disposal? - when the shakles came off in the season we finished 2nd we were awesome going forward and Babbel looked a world beater - but he was s**t the following season - gerrard scored 22 goals - is that negative football for a right midfielder.....you have your opinion on Rafa, but dont make generalisations about the teams he set out - we beat Utd 1-4 and RM 4-0, doesnt sound too boring to me, yes they are stand out fixtures, but they werent boring games - likewise the 4-4 semi v Chelsea. Woulkd you rather he had gone for the throat at 1-0 after GArcia's goal or sat back and broke down everything Chelski threw at us? I know what I prefer and that is the result! I'd welcome him back in a heartbeat !

The dust is starting to settle on the sacking of Kenny, but Im still in shock. I am so dissapointed that he has left us and my heart is with him and his family. He must be heartbroken at the way he was removed, although being Kenny, he will never show it or admit it to anyone.

He knows he is our most universally loved football manager ever, adored by fans and respected by all decent non supporters, including Evertonians.

The pain and hurt he went through over Hillsborough has been evident to everyone and his continued support for our 96 brothers and sisters has been nothing short of immense.

He has given everything to our club, who can possibly ask for more?

I was starting to get a little worried for Kenny in the weeks preceding his sacking, the visible stress on his face was evident. He was let down by the players on the pitch, nothing more nothing less. I sincerely hope he has a nice holiday and comes back refreshed, as the Kenny we all know.

I witnessed at first hand the famous Kenny smile every time we scored and it will remain with me forever.

Personally I hope he comes back in some role, be it with the kids, ambassadorial or whatever. He is an icon of this club and we still needs his influence to help us through the dark days ahead.

He will be back, but not yet.

He is hurting and needs a little time.

The door will always be open to our very own Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish, our King, our finest player and in my mind the greatest human being a football club could have within its ranks.

I make no secret of the fact that I idolised him as a player, a human being and a manager, and I long for the day that our King returns, in whatever role he chooses.

I think you speak for about 80% of Liverpool fans Macca.
There are the Rafa doubters out there too, but surely anyone could see how frustrated he was with the owners. He made a couple of blunders - ie Alonso, but then again was there more to it?
Rafa loves our club like a true fan, and he has the technical ability to get us back to top four.
With respect to Rodgers and Martinez (who are good managers and probably very nice people too) If LFC decide to employ one of them over Rafa then they are mad.

More like 50%. Lets actually get Benitez back, when he flops again, starts his politics and is chased away, it will fit nicely with our 'live in the past' creed.

Til you lot get Benitez out of your system - like Torres etc - any new manager has no chance.

20 May 2012 09:10:05
I reckon if the club was sold to DIC then we would not be in the mess we are in now. The current owners have not the money needed to compete at the top level. I dont care what anyone says money talks man city would not win s**t without the shiek. Chelsea would not win s**t without Roman. Liverpool win never even get in the champions league with a transfer budget of 25 million we would not get in to europa league next season. People can say what you want if we had rich owners we would win things we should have sold the club to a sugar daddy not a dumb bunch of y**ks who know nothing about football. All they care about is selling our best players and buying young s**t players on lower money. They asked the fans who we should get as manager are they born in a barn. If Henry sells suarez for 30 million euros i will sell my season ticket.

Mate, DIC went bust (or close to it). Am I correct Eds? {Ed001's Note - yes.}

I will have your season tickets please mate! DIC and Dubai nearly went under mate they needed bailing out by Abu Dhabi !

Would you like to be like City of Chelski? I wouldnt. I at least respect Arsenal and they seem to get top 4 with youngsters every year.

When a team wins something without buying success it is all the sweeter.

On one hand i would love for us to have rich owners so we could compete with the others but its not the way things should be done and its not the liverpool way and if eventually the olligarch,s get bored of there new playthings then they will be in massive trouble i trust fsg they have done a marvelous job with the redsox the management decision is the most important they have had to make so far

20 May 2012 09:06:49
i really dont understand, so many name appeared, and today LFC and finally agreed to bring a failure of this prestige club. Villlas Boas as LFC manager, does the american ever follow the footbal scence. AVB failed, and he is lfc choice. i rather walk alone, thanks to the americans.

Well h**k you plastic fan, i'll be behind whoever we get, hoping for AVB but whoever comes in will have my support 110%

Rafa had 6 years and failed. Scolari failed at Chelski, does that make him a bad manager even though he won a WC? AVB would be a good choice, we are not Chelski and Gerrard and Carra shouldnt run our club.

Your right there 3rd poster! Gerrard and carragher should get the apse just like Kenny did! Its time to move on from those two!

Steve

20 May 2012 09:03:54
I bet if Chelsea decide to get rid of Di Matteo they will have a harder task than LFC. Who in their right mind would want to follow that? Talk about pressure!
The new Barca boss will have even more pressure and expectation.
The relevance of this point is - LFC is a great challenge to any manager - and it would be fairly easy to improve on last season's results. This is why I think a real top drawer manager is on the cards peeps.

Mate, couldnt agree with you more.

Goobz

----------------------------

I know what you mean mate, however my one worry about Rafa is that he didn't seem to like pace. He went with work rate and I know work rate is a great attribute to have but I don't think I could put up with having another player on the wing who can't put the ball past a player and beat them. Dirk's great squad player but for me he's not the kind of player that's going to open teams up and that's what we need. Was it s case of Rafa signing them because he was on a budget and had to stretch the money further than he would under fsg or did he genuinely think that the signings were good enough. Not just rafa either houlier and kk don't seem to have spent to wisely either, in my opinion and I know we signed some gods players under each manager and not all signings work out but we do seem to make the worst signings out of any team in the prem. I have genuinely list faith in our scouting department bit maybe it will change under new regime.

Bl

Work rate gets us through the season, pace doesn't

Rafa for me for sure, been bangin on here about it for ages tbh. The lad really deserves a chance under a management that are interested in success. He might be a flop, but realistically, what have we got to lose here? And to all the anti-Rafa brigade, if he crashes you never have to hear about him again. And if he doesn't we never have to hear from you again. Win Win (also I hear Chelsea are handing out free plastic flags, can I not tempt you?)

ferd

If Houllier had stayed an extra year and won a CL then you would all want him back. Houllier & Benitez are the reason we are where we are.

Every manager makes bad buys, Whiskey nose has made some bad buys. LFC should reinvigorate the Rafalution. YNWA

Surely Abramovich has to retain RDM as manager next season which means he can be ruled out for the managerial position Singred

Drogba, Lampard and co won the CL not RDM. When they all go RDM will be found out as an avg manager. AVB was looking towards Chelski's future, RDM groomed some ego's and got a last hurrah. Next season RDM frist PL manager to get bulleted. Ancelotti anyone?

20 may 2012 08:42:50
hi this is my first post so i would love if it gets up.word coming out of my mole is that the new #lfc manager will be a total surprise for fans. i am still tryna hussle a name out of him but am not there yet. his a really realiable source but can be a prat and keep things to himself.
ynwa (eds i love what your doing with the site)

20 May 2012 08:37:00
I was on a bus in London the other day when to my utter surprise Gerrard was behind me and told me Zeus will be our next manager!

No, but seriously is anyone else out there depressed by the idea that AVB sounds at least fairly likely to get shout at managers job?

He is the last person we need. Lifeless and with no connection to the club, no passion for it, which would be okay if he was an amazing manager like a certain Dortmund manager Klopp (though he obviously won't be coming to us).

The idea from our owners i hear is that AVB is young so can build team around him over many many years....the only problem is its very rare to find a manger in England who can keep his job long term, so the idea of buying young for the sake of it seems stupid to me. Harry redknapp isn't young but i think most of us would jump at the chance of netting him at LFC (i realise it will never happen)

Anyway, eds opinion would be appreciated about value of AVB

I would hate harry redknapp at lfc its due to his lack of interest at spurs while he thought he was getting the england job that cost them third an subsequently champions league

20 May 2012 08:28:42
Liverpool Manager shortlist down to 5 now I believe
Martinez
AVB
Rafa
Deschamps
Laudrup

Is it true that Guus Hiddink has an out clause at Anzhi? If so that's one man I'd love to see become our manager!!

Theres a lot of chelsea stuff giving the fact its a liverpool rumour sight cant u keep the chelsea stuff on the chelsea website?

I promise im not mentally out of balance but a hell of alot of money is going on harry redknapp being our next manager.

Lee

Don't be silly Lee...it is far too far North of Watford Gap for him!

iggypop

He is 9-1 for liverpool and 8-1 for chelsea on sky bet
Guinnessred8

Its true he wasn't even on sky bet list yesterday, I looked this morning and he's at 9/1

20 May 2012 08:14:47
Congrats Chelsea for winning the Champion League and thanks for defeating Bayern and so LFC remain 3rd in the Europe hiearchy with 5 Champions league whereas Bayern is stuck with 4.

20 May 2012 08:14:32
The teams with the most money win the trophies - how dull. I'm sick of football.

20 May 2012 08:13:29
Believe me, you will regret it 100% if AVB is made manager.

Does it matter? If Rafa is not given another 6 years to play carp football and buy rubbish then you lot will undermine any new manager that comes in. Prob with LFC imo. Stop living in the past.

20 May 2012 07:56:16
If I'm honest I didn't want Chelsea to win last night but on reflection I think it will of helped us in the managerial stakes...any manager considering a job at a premier league club will surely be looking at Liverpool because after last nights win Abramovich would be a fool not to give the job to DiMatteo. My preference would be AVB or the Gaffa but whoever it is will need financial backing!
T Bone.

20 May 2012 07:55:58
Hello Ed002,
can you please explain how Chelsea win in CL changes Liverpool EL campaigne? Does it make it easier or shorter? Thanks. {Ed002's Note - It appears that UEFA have blocked to move for Liverpool to qualify as FA Cup runners up and are forcing qualification to be via the Carling Cup route. I have just been told that they claim this is nothing to do with them but because the FA assign the League Cup as a qualifying competition, their hands are tied.}

Would they be doing this to make sure Cardiff aren't in the EL {Ed002's Note - No - the runners up in the FA Cup qualify but the runners up in the League Cup don't. They seem to just be being difficult.}

20 May 2012 07:47:30
Ed002's Note - Yes - this is a successful night for Liverpool - four games less, a later start and straight in to the group stage.}

Ed you should be liverpool PR team putting positive spins and all.
Did you take off your shirt when you won and run in streets.lol.

I wanna know your thoughts on RDM because surely you must realise terry is the manager behind the picture.
Surely chelsea fans must pinch themselves and ask how did they got that double.

Red indian {Ed002's Note - Firstly, it appears that UEFA have blocked to move for Liverpool to qualify as FA Cup runners up and are forcing qualification to be via the Carling Cup route. I have just been told that they claim this is nothing to do with them but because the FA assign the League Cup as a qualifying competition, their hands are tied. Di Matteo is a really nice guy but your views on Terry are very wide of the mark.}

20 May 2012 07:46:41
After watching the pre match interviews by Lampard etc. last night about life under AVB earlier in the season, I am very worried if FSG go ahead and appoint him new manager of Liverpool.

Also did anybody see Houllier joining in the backslapping of Chelsea players at the end of the UEFA VIP line. Right over the top in my opinion.

20 May 2012 07:33:56
Guys we all know what lfc 'WERE' but many of us dont really understand what exactly we are NOW.We are a club that was very successfull lllllloooooonnnnng back and we are proud of it but how does it really matter to an upcoming talented player, what every one wats is MONEY! am saying all this because all of you guys come out calling random names of stars and wish to see them at lfc but for a reality check let me give you some info of the salaries other clubs offer to their players for a week :
Liverpool ; Gerrard 110k
Man Utd ; Rooney - 210k
Chels**t ; Terry - 220k
Assenal ; RVP - 120k
Citey ; aguero, tevez - 250k
spurs ; adebayor - 150k
Barca ; Messi - 270k
Madrid ; Ronaldo 200k
Juve ; Buffon 150k
Milan ; Ibra 150k
Munich ; Robben 160k
And we all know that the clubs wont give any more than the highest paid player as it is the limit they set for the wages to be in control so tell me now do you think big players will come up to lfc to get a pay lesser than Stevie's ? Take Torres for instance he had an increased pay equalling to Stevie's but he felt he should be gettin more so he left? And now Suarez gets 80k a week and honestly he is better than SteveG, so do you feel suarez does'nt wants more for his talent??
And as far as manager is concerned some of you really think people like Pep and Mourinho will come to Lfc? come on guys be reallistic whats the attraction in Lfc now? A sugar daddy? top class players ? Big stadium? what? So please dont wish for what you cant get and be realistic. Martinez over AVB for me and it was really funny to see torres celebrating as if he contributed a lot to the team. TBH i feel whenever he doesn't contributes to his team they win the cup. Really gutted they let kenny go.
Long live the KING...YNWA

So you are saying "How is the hunt for richer owners going?" lol

20 May 2012 07:25:31
No chance Liverpool will go to Rafa for manager. Fell out with previous heirarchy + same at Valencia & Inter. He's too much hassle. Never mind he also got a multi million payoff last time which seems to be forgotten.

KD fell because of his media presence as much as results. FSG want a young, progressive, media savvy coach. I think we should try AVB (brilliant at Porto - forgot Chelsea experience - his intent was right, just tried to make the changes one season too early). Carra as his no 2 would get players & fans on side. Bring in 3 good calibre attacking players and get rid of some of the guys who are getting on now: Kuyt, Maxi etc

Rafa gave his comp to charities in Liverpool which seens to be forgotten.

20 May 2012 07:18:18
I believe one of the eds is a Chelsea fan. Congrats to you ed. Chelsea have been on the verge of this for the best part of a decade, and I believe as liverpool fans we could learn a few things from Chelsea.

I know we don't have as much money to pay, or as some would put it, play on a different 'philosophy', but at the end of the day, I think we have well and truly been lacking in desire. Both the players and the fans. King Kenny seemed to be the only one around with true desire and he paid with his job for not being able to pass that on to the players. I have no idea of who is coming in, or who may be leaving, but what I do know is that we are a great club, capable of pushing every player to great heights. For those in doubt, try and recall Neil Mellor's goal against Olympiakos, or Dossena getting goals in back to back games against Real and United. Not too many would have put their money on these two of all people. And yesterday, as they have shown at crucial moments throughout this season, Chelsea showed that desire. And I believe we definitely have it within us, we just need to remind ourselves of something.

We are Liverpool, and we never walk alone.

That is who we are, that is who we will always be.

Keep the faith.

Ray.

We never walk alone but we always walk in the past...

20 May 2012 07:03:57
This is for people saying torres has done more in 1 season with chelsea than his whole time with us.

Can torres look at them medals with pride?

The answer is no , he's done nothing what so ever to contribute towards winning them.

LAVERS

Dont really think that will bother him.

I so wanted Chelsea to lose last night, but get a grip mate. I also was enjoying Torres's misery at Chelsea. But he has been playing well of late the goal at Barca would have done wonders for him. He also played well after he came on last night. So give him a break. Reg

They wouldn't even let him take a penalty after him saying he wanted to. He could've been a hero but chose to be a mercenary.

Torres was not a born and bread scouser, why should he have stayed and let his career go down with the sinking ship that is lfc. Plus we dont pay well enough to keep top players. For Torres LFC was a job. Have none of you left a job for more money with a bigger firm? Not bigger in the past I might add.

Hey Ed's/macca , i have an interesting suggestion i'd like to say , seeing how tottenham won't be in the champions league , do use reckon we could tempt harry redknapp to anfield? with FSG holding there cards so close to there chest they could be talking to him , who knows :/ .

thanks {Ed002's Note - I'll leave this one for Macca.}

ive woke up the day feeling really sad about everything and nothing

Cheer up buddy I'm sure we will get back to the elite of football soon it's not all bad.i actually feel bad for the Blackpool fans that's something to be sad about.

Square tomato

Think you meant to post on the menopausal mens talk page lol

Hard reality is that football is money driven. Unless we get a Shiek we have no chance of being top 4 regulary. Only one-off's like Nufc just did to look fwd too.

Financial Fair Play is nonsense and many clubs will prove again this summer.

20 May 2012 04:46:35
Just got in from a night Out and the question of who our new manager will be is still on my mind. Maybe that says something about the night life in my town. Anyway personally I think we should give borrell a shot he to me seems to be a winner and a perfectionist even at reserve level. Give the guy a go it might turn out to be a genius move. Either way whoever comes In will have my support

I think we should give borrell a shot
if we get his brother..
we could give it a shot with both Borrells..

AVB will be the next West Brom manager! so I think we can rule him out of LFC

Now that was funny! lol

Harry rednapp is know one of the favorites to become our next manager anyone know whats going on ?

Sure why not we are linked with every other manager under the sun. highly unlikely fsg will want a man with tax issues i believe they want a manager with a clean background redknapp doesn't fit that bill anymore...

I must say despite a huge dislike for Drogba, that this season he seems to have developed some class and he was the.first to consolidate the bayern players and the same at the fa final. he's always been a diving person in the past but credit due on this showing

20 May 2012 02:35:46
i have a very strange feeling after chelsea took tottenhams spot in the CL.....we can lure harry redknapp to liverpool....as most of his players will want to jump the ship and we are much bigger club with good owners and hopefully a good project....eds what do u think the chances are ?

What has Harry won? PL? CL? Get real. We will maybe get another Carling Cup with him in charge and when he leaves we will be broke.

Personnally.... my top choice would have been klopp all day long. but i assume that he is not an option. my second choice AVB. and im going to get some people saying no here but i believe he should be a true contender for our manager posistion. i am not one to bet but i have a sneaky feeling its AVB.... id be open to rafa back. but he would seriously need to look at what he did wrong last time and change it. i am behind FSG and whoever they choose 100% BostonRedBlox

As a Liverpool fan, I am delighted by Chelsea's victory.

Not only does it take us straight into the Europa League, and not only does it ensure 4th place will remain CL qualifier, but now the Arsenal and Spurs fans, the most arrogant in the EPL, can look forward to being put in their place by Chelsea fans for a good few years.

{Ed002's Note - Eveybody thought that was the case but I am told that UEFA have said no on the basis that the League is a qualifying competition and that over-rides the runner up slot. I am trying to find out how this was comminicated.}

just wondering, does this mean liverpool now enter into the europa league at a later stage? any info would be very much appreciated,
YNWA {Ed002's Note - Eveybody thought that was the case but I am told that UEFA have said no on the basis that the League is a qualifying competition and that over-rides the runner up slot. I am trying to find out how this was comminicated.}

whats your opinion of Lucien Favre of mönchengladbach? (ie has he been linked to us/do you think he'd be up to the job?)

20 May 2012 01:23:23

Villas Boas is the leading candidate for FSG... Clarke will stay, not sure about Keen atm... Segura and possibly Borrell will get promoted into more senior positions at the club, Begiristain or Van Gaal have been lined up for the DoF position. The new manager will get a nice kitty to put his stamp on the squad. De Boer, Deschamps, Rijkaard are a few others who have been looked at by FSG, who are currently being advised by Barwick and Baldini, along with Dein who is set to be appointed. Benitez hasnt been approached yet because they have been told bad things about him from staff at Liverpool but also because Ayre has told them that he would be looking for full control, and their plan is to have different people for roles, spreading the workload out between them - instead of having two people e.g Comolli and Kenny.

Cheers

LS7

Hasnt Clarke gone already?? NGibo

As a anfield born life long supporter only 2 canditates come to mind No1 AVB best young manger in the world forget chelsea time it was the big egos (Terry,Lampard)who questioned his tactics and caused a mutinty he is a class act. No2 for me and maybe a suprise Ian Hollaway reminds of lfc managers of the past strong and loyal personality dont expect him to get a interview but in my eyes should be up there! Theres no one else out there that i would like what you think ed 002. Thanks NGibo> {Ed002's Note - The players did not help but the reason for his dismissal was obviously the results, but critically an "independent" review of his training techniques.}

U really think that terry and lampard have any bigger egos than stevie and carra? I think AVB would crash and burn at liver I want rafa back

Food for thought? Roberto di Matteo MK Dons manager 2008-2009. Then West Bromwich Albion 2009-2010 promotion to the Premier League. 2010-2011 sacked by the Baggies due too poor results only to be replaced by one Roy Hodgson (now England manager). 2011-2012 Roberto di Matteo wins FA Cup (albeit narrowly) and Champions League (jammy). Not bad for someone not deemed to be fit to be a manager of a relegation fighting side. Look how Hodgson's star is shining, he's got one of the supposed most prestigious jobs in the world.

My point is that yes, we might be interested in Martinez or unproven managers with European Cup experience. But sometimes they need the rub of the green, a lucky break etc. And more importantly time, and backing from us fans. Hodgson was always to a hiding to nothing. Wherever he has been the players talk highly of him... Maybe the problem lies closer to home, we have to accept that we are work in progress. We cannot live in the past the sooner we realise this the quicker we can.

We've been turned down by nobodys such as Brendan Rodgers, Klopp etc. This job is a poisoned chalice. However, who ever embraces it and gives it their whole and with the fans support, just maybe, maybe be The Chosen One!

MidlandRed

Jurgen Klopp a nobody!! - wake up and smell the roses - he has just set records for Dortmund, playing entertaiining football - I'm sure most fans would want that sort of nobody.

Sorry Klopp was not be in that sentence!

Congratulations to Chelsea.

Congrats to Chelsea, well done and welcome to the Champions League club.

Eds, was just wondering what the situation is with Stuart Pearce, would he be someone the owners would look at.
A great player in his day, and a competitive and resiliant character.
Would be interested to know your thoughts.
Food for thought. {Ed002's Note - I don't know if he would or not. Obviously he is young but has experience and know the players.}

I'm sure the true feelings of many LFC fans regarding the CFC win tonight are being edited out by non scousers. Justice for the 96. Some of us have morals.

EVO YNWA {Ed002's Note - Actually no, the vast majority of the fans have been appreciative and supportive of the Chelsea win. Obviously there are always a small minority - and I think you are the first we have seen.}

20 May 2012 00:40:02
Hi Ed(s),

There are a lot of rumours that we have contacted Rafa, Laudrup etc for the manager's job.

From what you know, who have FSG actually made contact with? (apart from Martinez & Rodgers).

Cheers,
Stone YNWA.

P.S - David Price is doing the club and the city proud. Best British Heavyweight since Lennox Lewis. Incredible. {Ed002's Note - As has been previously explained, an approach is expected to be made to AVB and a tentative approach has been made to Benitez.}

The price is always right

20 May 2012 00:39:02
hey eds this might sound weird but do u think theres any chances of benitez being dof and martinez being manager ? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know. Sorry.}

20 May 2012 00:44:19
anyone else notice torres bottle taking a penalty?
then had the audacity to dance around like he had just won the cup for chelsea.
he is a whining selfish ?????
well done chelsea was really happy for RDM.
As some have said on here puts AVB tenure into perspective if he hadnt alienated the chelsea pensioners

True. Even Neuer had the guts to take the penalty...and score. Anyway congratz chelsea :)

20 May 2012 00:41:32
Torres's first full season and he has won a double = FA Cup/Champions League
I think it's fair to say he made the right decision

Still gutted he left us though........

Oh my word, get over it - Who cares. Would you swap him for suarez ?

No didnt think so..

He's been a passenger!!!
Wel done to him. Get yourself off supporting Chelsea!

Lyndon

Ye he has done notting bearly comes of the bench he likes been the main man .well he wont be that ever agin chelsea will sell him if rdm gets the job

You have a point, but the guys barely played and he can't feel his contributed greatly to either cup.

Yeah as a benchwarmer. Gazman

Yes, so he won a couple of medals...good luck to him. But he, nor Mereiles were really part of that team...just bit parts. A bit of a hollow victory for them both. Chelsea won with fantastic team spirit and belief and he will know as much as any of us he is on the periphary of all that.
Pleased for RDM, though I wonder if Abramovich will have the decency to give him a chance.
KJS

'Won' is the wrong word really isn't it.

What he has done is burn his bridges, play terrible football, destroy his confidence, score less goals than Emile Heskey has scored for Villa, and look like a t**t the whole time.

At what point has he contributed towards either of these accomplishments in the slightest. Almost ever goal he has scored was unneeded - even the one at Barcelona.

In my view he deserves a medal from Chelsea as much as Michael Owen does from United.

Concerned Red

But how much of a part did he play in any of
Chelsea's success?

Puzzled

Don't be stupid!? A bench warming, non-scoring has been, who hardly figured in either final. Would you be laughing?

20 May 2012 00:31:24
Sorry not a rumour, just had to get this out there. If anybody now asks if Torres is coming back to Liverpool is truly an idiot.

20 May 2012 00:31:12
Maybe, just maybe FSG are much smarter then we think. Martinez, Rodgers with all due respect to them, were bound to be rejected by majority of fans, not down to potential or style, but simply that they are not proven ?
Maybe, just maybe FSG know that Rafa divides the fans so him ahead of less experienced candidates seems like a blessing ?
Maybe, just maybe FSG people are reading this and thinking the plan was that AVB would look like a blessing ?
The old smokescreen theory
Maybe, just maybe I've had too many bevvies tonight.

Lisen mate all we ever do is talk about smoke screens when something happens but we are always wrong...its common sense there interviewing a few candidates who ever is succesful wil becum our new manager...NO smoke screens wake up lad

20 May 2012 00:28:08
All these rafa bashers why not mention who you would rather have over benitez keeping in mind the ones who have rejected us or are totally out of our reach i.e klopp e.t.c because with the likes of martinez we will be battling relegation.

IBIMO

P.S if martinez does get the job or whoever i will back them 100% even in the championship.... although it will never happen.

{Ed001's Note - Borrell. If the alternative is Rafa, I would rather give the job to me mam, at least she won't wash the club's dirty linen in public.}

I won't second guess who our next manager will be, but I suspect it's AVB.
No disrespect to Rafa - he's done a great job when he was manager (CL, FA cup and all) but you'd think that if the owners wanted him, they would have given it to him by now. At the end, if he's deemed the most suitable candidate for the position, I'll give my support. Singred

20 May 2012 00:26:12
Several papers saying FSG to interview AVB. express says 'liverpool to give kop job to villas-boas' what u reckon eds?

Why are people disagreeing when it is quite obvious on the back of the express, are you disagreeing to say u dont want him

Not a rumour when Torres left it made me feel sick like I been cheated on worse lol ! But watching him tonite running around with hie chelsea scarf round his head I hope people think long and hard players managers come and go sum deserve are love support for life sum don't if they give 110% for the club don't harm the club ( mean to) then great the point is the most important thing is the club no matter who is captain ov the ship legends will all ways be legands gods will be gods and kings will be kings and backstabbing will always be a backstabber keep your medals and I'll keep my pride rough with the smooth . Congrats to any/all Chelsea supporters. Ed002?

Also, I'd just like to say that all tonight does is make me wish Liverpool were back as a team to do this sort of thing. When we last won the UCL I was too young (I'm 19 now) to really understand what it was and how big it was to win it, and I'd love for us to win it now so I could celebrate it properly. I really do hope FSG appoint a decent manager to push us up into top 4 and return us to a top flight club.

Come on Liverpool!
Thanks, Ell.

That isn't too young at all.

7 years ago I would've been 12 and I didn't fully understood the concept of football, as well as many other things. I've been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but there comes an age when you begin to understand things better, such as the amazing achievement of winning the UCL. I obviously celebrated when we won, but not in the same way as I would now. I don't think that's too hard to understand, is it?

Ell.

You were too young at 12 to know how big the CL is? I'm 18 now and I went to every home game we played in Europe that year, the victory over Chelsea is one of my treasured memories. I was in tears at half-time in 05, I'm sure you were old enough to appreciate what it meant even if you weren't old enough to have a proper celebration ;)

Red Ollie

20 May 2012 00:02:00
Forget Torres, is he much happier gettin 5 mins? Bertrand in front of him? He could have been a legend! Now he's a spare part. We need to concentrate on the future, and that includes not going back to the past with rafa or a manager who's turned a relegation team to a medium table club! We need someone young and bold, someone who always plays for the win

And not only that...but a £50m striker did not take one of the penalties! It would be interesting to see where he would have been on the list if it had been all square after 5 apiece.. 10th? 11th?

Tonight's win is good for us

1 straight in group stage of Europa league, no qualifiers in august.

2 stopped bayern equaling our 5 times.

3 stopped the spuds qualifying & consolidating their standing. Bye bye modric & bale.

4 shallow win for bit parts Torres & merieles.

So well done Chelsea

19 May 2012 23:56:51
Now that Chelsea won the CL, Di Matteo should be confirmed at Chelsea for next season. That should close the door for Capello and perhaps FSG could now make serious move for him. I think he would be a good appointment for us flanked with a young coaching team Borrell & Carragher. We can give him a 3 year contract and then promote Borrell and Carragher in 3 years time.

Balls to that!

19 May 2012 23:55:35
i wonder if its possible we could offload Joe Cole back to the 'Ammers

19 May 2012 23:47:00
So Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal are automatically through to the group stages of UEFA Champions League. Are Chelsea through to the group stages or will they have to go through the qualifying rounds?

So Liverpool and Tottenham go through to the group stages of the UEFA Europa League yes? Who else qualifies?

The Third Wise-man YNWA

Chelski automatically through to the group stages as well.

No - Chelski take the place of the team that finish fourth.
They have to qualify like Spurs would have had to.

Newcastle, I think.

19 May 2012 23:46:23
same feeling macca....we need rafa bck and need CL

19 May 2012 23:45:42
poor auld 'Arry

No England Job
No Champions League

Thats cold....we may aswell recruit him for liverpool hel have a better future

19 May 2012 23:42:58
The Chelsea win, sort of puts AVB tenure a little more into perspective. I could see what he was trying to achieve but alienating his older, most experienced players cost him. Yes long term that may have been the better move, but short term it was managerial suicide.

Perhaps we're a club waiting to move forward with a new era and a younger crop of players coming through, but that decision makes me worried, if he joined us.

Papa G

If it meant that our long term success is more likely then its worth it. Chelsea might have their first Champs league trophy but Di Matteo has set their long term furture back a year by not giving the likes of Lukkaku more playing time.

I would welcome AVB, not my first choice but given time he would be an astute manager. You dont acheive what he did at porto without being good at your job.

EDS, This one is for you, what beef has Mcmannaman got with LFC? He is so negative towards the club even when he's on TV he is putting us down he's such a prat. Anyway whoever the club bring in it has to be a manager that can attract decent players. FSG need to put their money where their mouth is, because I truly believe if we don't spend big we are doomed to mid table mediocracey.

Elmo96
LFC Forever {Ed001's Note - he did dump the club for money, what do you expect?}

Lfc tried to sell him to barcelona , when he did not want to go because his mum was very ill , he looked at that and used it to his advantage , if you ever meet the man , he is a good egg.

When there was speculation about owen leaving Macca was quoted in spanish press as saying that liverpool "are just a feeder club." So its not the first time he's took a swipe at us.

Nevada

I have met him twice and both times he was an absolute gentleman

...& Macca is wrong because??

The truth hurts--I get that--but, I defy anyone to refute his points based on our performances over the past several seasons. Our lack of trophies on a consistent basis (yes, I realize we won something this year) and our mid-table form doesn't lie. Can we really consider ourselves a big time club anymore?

That's the problem with this site...too many people sticking their heads in the sand with the 'stand by your club no matter what' nonsense even when reality is staring them in the face.

When the club is underperforming--and it has been people...give your head a shake and come to that realization--there is no point sugar coating it. It needs to be acknowledged or else we can never turn the corner. That was one of the issues with KK. He was terrible with the media--made us look bad with his 'chip on the shoulder', 'everyone is against us', 'I'd take the Carling Cup over 4th spot', 'we were unlucky and didn't really play that badly' attitude. We lost 14 games....what the hell is that?? We look Mickey Mouse compared even to teams like Spurs and Newcastle.

Why are you getting on Macca's case for speaking the truth?

Anyway, after today's game...so bummed. Hate the fact Chelsea scum won it. Hate even more the fact that we look so far removed from even being part of the CL conversation. We should be an automatic in the CL every year...end of!

Disgraceful and unforgiveable for a team of the stature of LFC.

FSG let's get this season right because if we don't, I fear we will be reduced to a mid-table team for a very, very long time.

Seriously bummed out!

Red (Not Blue) Lenses

So we can rule our macmoneyman as Macca then!
