Eds

Just came across some thing interesting but not 100% on its validity.

If man city manage to win the champions league ( Highly unlikely ) and we beat Dortmund there's a probability that there won't be a 4th champions league spot for a premier league side next season.

Any truth in this or can you shed any light on what I'm saying?

Thanks in advance 😀

Ps
heads up everyone after today just look past it as a lesson learned and not to be repeated, onwards and upwards.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Beating Dortmund does not win the Europa League.}

21 Mar 2016 06:43:54
Don't get this question at all!

4th place will only miss out on a CL place if Man City win the CL and finish outside the top 4.

It's got nothing to do with us and the Europa league.

21 Mar 2016 08:39:29
If (big If) Man city and Liverpool win their europe competitions and are not in the top 4 then the top 3 + Man City + Liverpool will be the only english representation in the Champions league next year - due to a maximum of 5 teams from the same country being allowed in the Champs League.

$th spot drops into europa.

I believe this is what the OP was trying to get accross.

{Ed002's Note - That is not what he said. My answer was correct.}

21 Mar 2016 08:22:22
Ron if city win the champions league and finish outside the top 4 then all the top 4 and city enter next seasons champs league (5 teams allowed)

If we win the Europa and city win the cl and both finish outside the top 4 then whoever finished 4 gets the boot as only 5 teams will be allowed in cl. So we want to win Europa and city win cl and united to finish 4th. That well would be to good haha.

21 Mar 2016 19:40:27
Can I just clarify:

A few years ago 'Arry Redknapps Spurs finished 4th and Chelsea finished 5th but they won the champions league.

Only 4 teams qualified and Spurs missed out.

Regardless of the Europa, if City win the CL and finish out of the top 4, will 4th place still go into the CL?

I thought not but would be interested in opinions, especially Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, the rules have been changed to allow for that.}

21 Mar 2016 20:03:18
Not suggesting you was incorrect Ed - was just implying what the poster was trying to say not what they did say - enjoy your day :o)

{Ed002's Note - I can only answer the questions put in front of me. If they mean something else or contain secret messages I may well miss them as I simply don't have the time to figure that out.}

20 Mar 2016 19:35:13
Ed001 do you think Henderson is good enough to get into the top teams were competing with in the PL

As in starting 11.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

{Ed001's Note - he would walk in ahead of Fernando and Fernandinho in City's midfield, and Yaya 99% of the time. Arsenal's Elneny is still an unknown, but he is better than Coquelin and, on present form, light years ahead of Ramsey. Spurs have a system that suits Dembele and Dier more, so probably not ahead of them, though I would take him over Dier as an overall player. He is better than Drinkwater, though Drinkwater is playing brilliantly this season.}

20 Mar 2016 19:55:42
City has struggled in midfield over the years. Yaya scores goals and only reason he has been at the club ( This season has been terrible ) . UTD wouldn't need him as they have their own Henderson in Herrerra. Dembele is a class player who gets enormous protection from Dier. Ramsey is not a CM and more a CAM, While Carzola is their first choice player in that midfield. There is no place of Henderson at Arsenal.
Leicester wouldn't need him and I not sure which club actually need himTBH. Chelsea may be yes atm.

Hendeson best season came an year ago under Brendan when he was basically playing as a typical B2B player who had no responsibilty to sit back or dictate the game. Gerrard too care if it and that allowed Hendeson to press very high and run at opposition defenders.

He is a decent player who looks fantastic in a 3 men midfield with him acting as the third advance midfielder.

He is not a Pjanic type player nor a typical Deep defensive minded midfielder.

My observation on the player in last 4 years.

20 Mar 2016 20:28:29
Better than Ramsey? That's a shout, let alone light years ahead of him.

Rose tinted me thinks.

20 Mar 2016 21:53:10
I think when he's fit he's a tireless worker, who can pass, although no sure his vision is as good, he's good at picking players in space but doesn't offer the defence splitting pass. He's strong and not bad in the air. Wouldn't sell him, think we have much bigger problems, especially with Lucas coming back and gruijic adding more depth.

20 Mar 2016 22:16:41
No chance. He isn't even the best midfielder in OUR club and were mid table.

20 Mar 2016 22:19:42
Henderson is splitting fans down the middle who would take £25 million pound for him trusting Klopp to get someone in with the return.

20 Mar 2016 23:19:29
Skirts, benteke have to go in summer skirts can't stop giving goals away an benteke can't stop missing goals.

20 Mar 2016 21:05:30
Read it again JH. He was referring to elneny.

20 Mar 2016 23:53:13
There is a lack of top cm's in the league. Kante is the best. Ramsey will struggle to get back In. If we signed Henderson I'd be gutted.

The best business Liverpool can do is pay up sakhos contract. He is awful. And I think klopp sees it to.

21 Mar 2016 01:58:37
What?! Sakho has been the pick of the CBs at LFC this season, and was building a decent partnership with Lovren until Skrtel was put back in today.

21 Mar 2016 02:13:16
How you can say Sakho is awful is beyond me. He doesn't play so well with Skrtel, and I'm sure some of the Eds, more specifically Ed001 can explain why that is.

{Ed001's Note - I can't believe people are questioning that he is ahead of Ramsey this season. Have they not watched Ramsey play this season? He has been awful and the Arsenal fans are more on his back than the boo boys are on Hendo's (and that is saying something!).

As for Sakho, not sure what people expect, he defends as he should, but there is no partnership with the useless lump alongside him Skrtel. His constant dropping off provided Saints with acres of space to either side of him, while leaving the rest of the defenders in no man's land. They know if they drop off that Skrtel will then choose that moment to charge forward leaving the whole backline exposed, which is what led to one of their goals. Skrtel is weak as well, he gets stuck in but it is by pulling shirts, rather than trying to use strength, because he has none and got bullied, as usual. Sakho was excellent until Skrtel threw the game away.}

21 Mar 2016 02:14:27
i think comparison with yaya is abit unfair as we know yaya was spent force currently. Henderson is no match for yaya 2 seasons ago when henderson was supposedly in top form. Yaya score 15 goals a season from midfield and his fk alone kick henderson's arse big time.

{Ed001's Note - seriously? This is what I mean. People only see the goals and forget the other 99.9% of the match when the team has to carry lumps like Yaya. On the other hand Hendo contributes for 99.9% of the game and also scores sometimes. Yaya was overrated.}

21 Mar 2016 06:35:50
Leekuanyew, do you even watch football? i'm sure your just a wind up merchant with every post you post.
Yaya is just a pre madonna, who can only be arsed when something is in it for him. Personally, i don't think he's fit enough to lace hendersons boots.

21 Mar 2016 09:09:24
is skirtel defends no idea what he was doing for mane goals.

ramsey has been terrible but i wouldn't want hendo at arsenal neither are upto it right now.

20 Mar 2016 17:59:08
League is Gone anyway. Went ages ago.
Our entire season comes down to Europa League now and I hope Firmino is back for Dortmund.

20 Mar 2016 18:06:03
Looks like both Pep and Klopp would be playing in Thursday night Footie. who saw that coming?

20 Mar 2016 18:22:27
Today was a great opportunity to put pressure on the top four, unfortunately the intro suction of Skrtel cost us, why our managers have confidence in him I will never know.

20 Mar 2016 18:22:27
Today was a great opportunity to put pressure on the top four, unfortunately the intro suction of Skrtel cost us, why our managers have confidence in him I will never know.

20 Mar 2016 18:45:02
That was an "intro suction" from Skrtel alright.

20 Mar 2016 18:46:32
In reality we are no further away from top 4 than we were before the game.

20 Mar 2016 18:51:47
I don't think it matters who we play at the back, they are all useless at defending. How anyone rates Sakho is beyond me, and Lovren definitely hasn't improved under Klopp. I suppose you have to make allowances for Flannigan, due to his absence through injury. But all in all the back 4 was a shambles second half. Why in gods name didn't Klopp strengthen the midfield when it was obvious we were being overrun there. Rant over.

20 Mar 2016 19:04:30
1st goal, wtf are Flanno and Can doing to give possession away? This cost us the goal. That said, Migs was not set when the shot came in, he should not have been beaten so easily from that angle.
2nd goal: All about Pelle really, and our complete failure to deal with the knockdown.
3rd goal - never ever back pass it to Migs when we're under pressure- fatal mistake. Migs kick - worse than useless. Skrtel misses the header and then he and Allen make a total shambles of the clearance. Sakho has to get closer to Mane especially after the first goal.

The goals were down to poor individual errors and stupid decisons but the team looked knackered to me after halftime and didn't compete well enough in every position.

20 Mar 2016 18:19:04
Looking unlikely for us to qualify now. Dortmund's attack is too strong for us unless we start both Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho with Lucas Leiva sitting in just front of them.

20 Mar 2016 18:58:54
More no sakho has been phenomenal the past few games next to lovren, and down to no coincidence the reintroduction of skrtel put him back to a completely different player.

Ed001 constantly told us it was skrtel and today proves it.

20 Mar 2016 14:28:16
We haven't won this match yet and could capitulate second half. I must say though the longer the squad works with Klopp the better as a team we seem to be. Hopefully we carry this momentum on for the rest of the season, but as for next season o have high hopes. I understand other teams haven't been at their best but surely we have to be confident of challenging on all fronts the way it's going .

I just hope that we win the Europa or qualify Top 4.

Believable8 Unbelievable6

20 Mar 2016 15:42:27
You jinxed it Taffy.

Skrtel needs to get the hell out of this club. Got sent off in the U21's, gave away a penalty, and was involved in all 3 goals conceded.

20 Mar 2016 16:01:29
let that be a lesson to klopp. never play him again, soon as his back his pulling shirts again he should have a pen against him every game he plays for it.

20 Mar 2016 16:04:04
1st half klopps liverpool

2nd half - Rodgers liverpool

And this came from 1 substitute (Not inc ben/ hendo) as too late

Didn't think 1 person could do so much damage in 45 minutes.

20 Mar 2016 16:31:43
Was Lovren injured?

20 Mar 2016 16:41:01
Klopp was at complete fault in the second half. He saw the game drifting away from him near the touch line and did nothing. Absolute Naivety.

20 Mar 2016 16:44:38
@ Hem b.

I don't think so. Lovren struggled with Long's pace, was on a booking, and a lot of the people now hammering Klopp's tactical subs were giving him a right amount of stick in the Live Chat.

Careful what you wish for boys.

20 Mar 2016 16:52:14
This game was lost by Klopp definitely. He should man up and owned it.

20 Mar 2016 16:54:15
I'll rest the temptation to be too smart arsed and just ask a simple question:

If Benteke puts his chance to make it 3-1 in the net like he bloody well should have and it kills the game (which it probably would have) is Klopp still naive?

20 Mar 2016 17:06:23
If I could answer Something,
That's another assumption just like had Migs not saved the penalty it would have been 4-2 to Southdmpton. Liverpool at the point of time needed a body in the midfield to see out the game / Control the game. There was no need for another goal at all. 2-0 is a very good Scoreline away from home against a team who is sitting above you.
I was confident had we bought Henderson in, We would have still made chances to score for any other player.

20 Mar 2016 17:48:30
I agree, when DS was coming off it should've been for a midfielder to stop the supply to their front men, even Kolo to come on was an option, watching the 1st half we were all over them! Movement was impressive but Koeman won the battle with his change of formation and subs, Skertl? Tough week for him!

20 Mar 2016 18:25:19
DGeneration

Not necessarily. @ 0-2 to us, Migs saved the pen. Had that of gone in. The process of play wouldn't of continued the way it did and for every action there after would of been different. We would of had a centre pitch kick off and a completely different pattern of play would of emerged.
The same consequence if Benteke had of scored or if Joe Allen had buried his or had his allowed.
All completely different circumstances if one action is different to what has happened.

20 Mar 2016 19:16:46
Gazza

So where does that lead to? Are you trying to say we were destined to loose because we did not score that third goal? How did Southampton who were non existent in the first half suddenly outplayed us in the second?
We were sitting so deep that the whole second half was happening inside our 6 yard box. Someone was supposed to make a mistake and a goal was coming in. It was Skrtel today. Lovren did not look great either in the first half.

20 Mar 2016 20:46:20
You can make some of your own destiny. In terms of football the officials can play a major part. With the linesman flagging for offside we had a potentially winning or drawing score line taken from us. Again. Either one of Allens shots stood to be a goal. The whole game would of been completely different.

20 Mar 2016 13:16:32
Hey Eds and reds . Silly season fast approaching all I can say to some of the stories is i believe for a long time maybe since Rafa we have a manager that will address the problems in the squad rather than sign a player because the player is good and available . We need to address the problem areas in the squad and selling Henderson is not 1 of them. In klopp we trust . Wide player and keeper the main 2 in the summer for me.

Believable5 Unbelievable6

20 Mar 2016 13:29:42
If selling Henderson helps fund said areas I'd be all for it. As much as I have no I'll feeling towards the man I feel he is completely replaceable and wouldn't be disappointed at all to see him leave.

20 Mar 2016 14:24:48
Agree with 'kopite', Henderson has proven himself 'nowt special', always preferred Allen who i think is now coming to the fore and what with Gruic we should take the money!

20 Mar 2016 14:32:11
Great loyalty there lads to a player who has given 100% every time he has put on the shirt and who has shown he has plenty of quality as well as the right mental attitude. How has Joe Allen shown he is better? Brainless.

20 Mar 2016 14:35:35
I wouldn't entirely agree eith that, rafa was one of the worst managers i have ever seen for transfers.

The guy signed so many players on frees and small money for no reason it nearly bankrupted us, and don't point to alonso or mascherano because they were just a couple of a transfer record that nearly reached 100 players brought in in total.

20 Mar 2016 15:28:14
If interest follows with Xhaka would you sell Henderson

You can always improve tho Henderson earned the right to be in the team.

20 Mar 2016 15:55:58
Seano nothing to do with loyalty. If its a good offer for the club and the player why not then.

20 Mar 2016 15:59:55
Southampton just proved what nonsense this is - Seano hit it on the head. Allen can sometimes do a very good job but he's not capable of playing in a 2 man midfield or a 4-4-2 against many sides in the PL, he was anonymous in the second half and got pushed around by the pace and physicality of Wanyama, Mane etc.

20 Mar 2016 16:53:25
Selling Henderson has definitely be the way to go, no 2 ways about it. The fact that flanno wss tried out for captain tells a lot about what klopp gg to do this summer.

20 Mar 2016 16:59:01
Today proved that Allen is too lightweight to be a regular centre midfielder. Priorities for me this summer are a top class keeper, Mignolet again proved that the basics are beyond him, a top class centre midfielder (Xhaka would improve our central midfield 110%), a winger and maybe a left back.

20 Mar 2016 17:08:10
Allen was brilliant in the first half thanks to Saints poor approach and weak midfield. He was up against a 3 men midfield in the second half all alone. Got bullied.

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't brilliant, he got forward well but gave no protection to the defence, which was why Lovren was exposed. Second half we didn't get enough of the ball, so his lack of defensive positioning was shown up. At one point their entire midfield were in behind him and Can and neither of them did anything to drop back to fill in spaces. Hendo would never have allowed that to happen. Allen is simply not good enough to be anything more than a sub. We need Henderson in there or we struggle, as was shown again.}

20 Mar 2016 17:51:10
We need 3 CM else we struggle and we have been struggling a lot lately. Out creative skillful players in Firmino and Coutinho doesn't help midfielders defensively.
Can-Allen-Henderson could have won the game today hands down.

20 Mar 2016 17:59:38
Ed you are very quick to blame Allen but wasn't Can playing in more of a DM position? Didn't see him do much to protect.

{Ed001's Note - Can has been playing a box to box role, but he at least gets involved in breaking up play, and does at least as much when getting forward. I was not absolving him of blame, I pointed out they were both caught out, was just that I was pointing out that Allen was the issue as Hendo would not have let Can get so far out of place.}

20 Mar 2016 18:09:53
Henderson and allen should both be sold. I'm praying for the day when i don't have to argue with fellow liverpool fans over bang average players.

{Ed001's Note - bang average? I long for the day when people can see qualities other than a glory seeker shooting for goal from 40 yards 20 times a game and appreciate players who fill a role in the team.}

20 Mar 2016 18:32:51
Hendo has come on leaps and bounds under Klopp with more to come. Carrying a persistent heel injury which is deemed incurable or untreatable but he carries on. Gives his all for the club and team. A role model for the youngsters and not least our CAPTAIN!
If we can't get behind our own captain and support him through any troubles he has then why would he want to stay?

Some real synical posters on here. Lovren out, Sakho out. Allen out. Now Allen stay. Sturridge out, Hendo out.

We're LFC. We're not supposed to walk alone?

20 Mar 2016 18:28:30
ED001 you are referring to?

{Ed001's Note - isn't it obvious?}

20 Mar 2016 18:31:23
Ed00: They're bang average to me mate. the only people that rate them are some liverpool fans. I've never meet a none liverpool fan who rates them. we need much better.

{Ed001's Note - who cares? Other fans only see them when they face them and then they are busy looking at their own team. Unless they get hyped in the media, no one will notice them. Makalele was not rated by anyone until he left Madrid and they fell apart without him. Every time Hendo is missing we struggle, that should be enough to tell you he is far from bang average. You might want to show some respect for a player that is playing through pain for the club, instead of jumping on his back.}

20 Mar 2016 19:06:44
You're not a Coutinho fan then?

{Ed001's Note - that sounds nothing like Coutinho, or I would have said jinked past players in there too.}

20 Mar 2016 19:12:04
No ed001 many people watch a lot of football and have seen them play many times - they just don't rate them. and everyone i know rated makelele. on another planet to hendo and allen. Me not rating hendo is not a lack of respect, its just my opinion. i'm sure there's liverpool players you don't rate.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so. You are just another boo boy on the back of a player for the sake of it. He is still one of our better players, whether you or these whoever they are you are discussing it with are able to see it or not.}

20 Mar 2016 19:19:38
This breaking up play has been a problem since Lucas or Masch. We have tried every midfielder with us.

20 Mar 2016 19:24:11
C'mon ed001 your always on here criticizing players lol.

{Ed001's Note - yes but I explain why, not just whine about them being average.}

20 Mar 2016 19:36:52
Sorry then Ed you have me as I don't know of any player we have bar cuots who actually shoots from outside the box.

{Ed001's Note - I was not talking about this season mate, I was talking about in general over history. People worship anyone who does that, no matter how lacking the rest of their game is, but no one notices the dirty work done by others to allow them to break forward.}

20 Mar 2016 20:34:10
Ed was saying in general but to be honest i actually do think coutinho is guilty of that and the people do overrate him because of it.

20 Mar 2016 22:19:06
Mcgoveb Iv'e just come back from work and am tired as hell and even I know who Ed001 is referring to.

20 Mar 2016 23:49:15
Sithy am with u. It hurts so much to see that fans have drop their standards of Liverpool players to accept Hendo as good. No way is he good enough. Henderson has to go and give us Pogba like midfielder.

21 Mar 2016 01:27:57
ed, i agree about allen. but he should have milner and lallanas roles. far better than those two, unless you feel their headless chicken workrate matters more. its a shame lucas and hendo are unfit.

{Ed001's Note - you think Allen should play a wide role? I have heard it all now! Allen's only use is coming on from the bench, he is as much of a headless chicken as those two, but with less pace.}

21 Mar 2016 04:41:55
not exactly a wide role is it. the whole team interchanges, and lallana and milner are not exactly wide players. the aim of the game is to score goals, and allen could have easily had two today. he's looked dangerous ever since klopps arrived. he has a knack for being in the right places, he see's danger. I'm not saying he's messi but he's deserves a place ahead of milner and lallana, in the attacking roles. anyway, where people are moaning at hendo. looks like youve targeted allen who doesn't really deserve it. he's shown plenty of quality, he just won't do us any good in a 2 man midfield.

{Ed001's Note - he was awful yesterday, missing an absolute sitter and being totally absent in the second half. He is not good enough and would offer nothing in that role, he wouldn't even know how to play it. By the way, there is a huge difference between playing wide and drifting inside when your team is in possession and being a central player. Allen is a central player, Milner and Lallana drift inside from wide. I am not targeting Allen, he simply is not good enough and a couple of decent sub performances do not change that, no matter how much MOTD fever has got to you. Your name must be the most ironic username ever.}

21 Mar 2016 04:44:25
You could perhaps argue Milner or Llalana should have more central roles, but Allen a wide role? Seriously?

21 Mar 2016 05:13:39
"he wouldn't even know how to play it" and milner and lallana do? anyway I wouldn't play him wide. i would preferably stick him in a 3 man midfeild. all I know is I would like him on the pitch. yes I knew this name would come back to haunt me but it also tells me people have not much worth saying when they point it out in a closing argument.

{Ed001's Note - or perhaps it just tells you how ridiculous your suggestions are? Milner and Lallana have been doing well lately over 90 minutes, while Allen has only performed well for a few minutes a game. Upgrades over them are defo needed, Lallana reverted back to holding on to possession too long yesterday, which is frustrating, but Allen is not an upgrade over either. He would be lost out there, bit like he was in central midfield yesterday. The guy has no positional sense, at all. Playing him wider is not going to change that. That is why he has been coming on to play in front of the midfield, where his lack of positioning is not so much of an issue.}

20 Mar 2016 12:54:10
Hi Eds
Why is Ibe not making bench for recent games?
He was benched in Europa game. But recent premier league games he is gone missing.
Any updates or any fall down with Klopp?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - he is just being given the chance to get his form and confidence back up away from the first team spotlight.}

20 Mar 2016 15:30:18
He needed this break ed001 been a hard season for the lad been quite poor but i believe he will grow and improve has the talent just needs to use it been go at players show no fear.

Is there any truth in the rumour, we're going to sell Henderson?

Believable4 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Liverpool making Henderson available (e.g. telling his agent to find another club) but if an offer were made to the club that was acceptable then it would I am sure be given consideration - be it for Henderson or anyone else.}

20 Mar 2016 12:02:44
Right now can is offering more, klopp is clearly going to want more than can-hendo to take the club to the top.

Just my 2 cents worth, could be wrong.

Just for the record I love Hendo but is he really good enough?

Ed01/ 02 if you are around mate. At this point of time who do you think will win the title this season mate?
I am not giving a green light for Leicester yet.

{Ed001's Note - they are in pole position so you have to favour them. If it was Man City chasing them down, they have the experience to put pressure on them, but Arsenal and Spurs are as likely to fold under pressure as anyone.}

Leicester remaining fixtures are pretty tough. Spurs must win it as they deliberately fielded a weakened team in th EL to prioritize the league. Agree with you on Arsenal and City.

I think we'll finish above Spurs.

Leicester have it IMO, I thought they'd drop more points over the last 3 games but they keep digging out results.

Tottenham have us, Stoke and Chelsea away, Southampton, United at home, Newcastle away will be difficult too. I think it's Leicesters.

Arsenal looks to be a bit too far away and was looking down more than up. But a look at their fixtures shows it is not the most difficult run in. In fact Leicester's final games are not easy. West Ham is on fire, Everton would not be easy, a trip to Old Trafford (who knows which MU team will show up and they have done well away at the big clubs), Chelsea can turn it on if they want.

I would love to see Leicester win it. What a season the would be, if both Leicester and West Ham end up in the top 4!

Leicester will win it hands down. Arsenal will somehow grab 2 nd spot and Spurs will blow it i'm sure of that. City will finish 4th and West Ham get 5th. Liverpool 6th and Utd 7th.

After today's results, I don't think we'll catch Spurs.

I live in Taiwan so get no footy - I do miss match of the day, does anyone know where you can watch/ stream match of the day from online? Obviously I can't use the BBC website but does anybody know of any other source that provides a highlights package of the PL? I have barely seen anything except ourselves this season, would like to see how everyone else is getting in like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm fairly sure playerxtreme app on iPad has a bunch of free channels, many of which are uk and can watch them live. Not sure off BBC is one of them - you'd have to check.

20 Mar 2016 12:56:09
You might have to change your IP address to download apps for uk tv channels though.
