Who else have seen the big Liverpool FC banner just behind Hugo Lloris goal in the second half? This makes us really proud to see LFC fans supporting their player during a world cup game.

20 Jun 2014 21:37:16
Question for everybody really - what player you hadn't previously heard of/seen much of have you been impressed with in the world cup so far?

For me Joel Campbell has been very impressive. Also thought James Rodriquez of Colombia has been very good - I know he's very well known I just haven't seen much of him till the WC.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Valbuena, Cuadrado (although I rated him already he's proving he can do it when it counts), Griezzman, Cabaye (same as Cuadrado), Blind

Already loved Vidal + Sanchez

Agree0 Disagree0

Valbuena is coming to the end of his contract with iom this season and is due to leave them could be got for around the 10mil mark would be a great signing for us and you would get 3 good years out of him

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah we need to put in a £7m bid for Valbuena. We can save £23m

Agree0 Disagree0

Has to be James Rodriguez
knew he was good but never really watched him have been immensely impressed with him has theppotential to be better than ronaldo

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 21:31:13
Valbuena is an excellent player. Pace, technique and lovely passer. Far superior player to the ongoing average shaquiri

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2014 21:37:59
Whose behind?. Matuidi?. Pogba?. Greizman?.
They have the best midfeild. In fact a complete midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

He was outstanding in both matches we have seen and he is way better than Shaquiri.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 21:44:36
Whats his age?. seems on the edge?.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was Sissoko Harry not Griezmann in midfield but 'whose behind' is nothing to do with the excellent performance of Valbuena.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 22:29:55
I mean all the players were equally good, None were poor

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, all work hard, in the centre they are quick and strong, matuidi good defensively and on the ball, Pogba excellent on the ball, and can defend too, allowing the 3 in front to do what they can do, and creating chances for benzema who I don't rate that highly but is playign well to be fair to him

Agree0 Disagree0

France have played 10-Man Honduras and blitzed a Switzerland side who made numerous tactical errors. I'd like to see France play someone competent before getting excited by them. Most impressed so far (overall) by Chile & Germany. Look to have a good a balance between attack and defence as do Colombia although their group isn't the toughest either like France's.

Personally I don't think Suarez will be with us still at the start of the season.
I also think it is not neccessarily a bad thing. Yes. He probably is the best player in the world at the moment. But if we can get the equivalent of £80+ million or a player with mobey. It gives us a great chance to build a team rather than build it on one player.
Yes, he will be missed. But if we could get Sanchez in and 3 more quality players in other positions with the money I think we will be in a better position. He is a fantastic player but it may be the right tine to move on. He has given us a fantastic season and we can not argue if he decides to leave now.
I think it makes sense for us to sell now as long as we getvthe right price

Believable0 Unbelievable1

He's the best player in the world,,, let's sell him?

20 Jun 2014 20:49:46
There is interest but no bid has been made and their certainly isn't a deal in place. If he goes I very much doubt it'll be for £52M as he is on current form the best player in the world. No question.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe its 52 million plus Sanchez

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he'll go myself, and I doubt it would be to barca if he did. messi hates anyone who might challenge his status in the team and Suarez would certainly do that, what gets to me is all this crap about an exit clause this surely only allows the club to talk to him they would still have to negotiate a price with LFC if Bale's worth 95 mil Louis got to be 100

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - So even the players hate Suarez as well. Interesting.}

These figures being quoted for Suarez if RM or Barca come in for him. Surely they cannot be true?

His value is double what is being reported across the web.

If this IS correct, whomever drew up this contract Luis signed should seriously consider his/her position as it would cost LFC an awful amount of money.

Ok, so now we know that LFC have agreed terms with Moreno's representatives which to me suggests that the player is more than happy to join LFC and all that needs to be taken care will be Sevilla's payment terms.

Clearly Moreno is our number one target for the LB position.

Based on this, why the hell are people moaning when the transfer window has not even bloody opened yet? Yes other offers for Moreno will come but LFC know exactly what needs to be done to do to meet Sevilla's demands.

My only take on this is that LFC have been assured that Moreno wants to come to LFC, now LFC have to sell a few player to make the deal happen and once the World Cup is over, you may see quite a few LFC players who are surplus to requirements being moved on.

Please have some patience people!

Please forgive me for sounding pessimistic however the inability of the Liverpool hierarchy of closing out transfer deals is rearing its head again!

This happened during previous transfer windows when both Tottenham and Chelsea nipped in before us when it appeared we were going to secure a player.

We are in a similar situation with at least 2 deals - Adam Lallana (appreciate the word is Southampton are now asking for more) and also Alberto Moreno (the same reason given - parent club now asking for more money)

We don't hear these sort of lingering transfer issues with other clubs?

Should something be done at the top exec level? Just had to air my view as I'm worried we'll be short changed with 2nd choice players for next season.

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Neither Southampton nor Sevilla are asking for "more" money. Liverpool have not offered enough for Southampton to sell Lallana. Liverpool does not right now have the money to complete the Moreno deal in a manner acceptable to Sevilla. Liverpool has agreed to the transfer of two players already - How many are agreed by Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Spurs? You don't hear this from other clubs because they don't whine as much.}

20 Jun 2014 17:09:17
Ed002,

1. do you know whether we have agreed terms with Moreno though?

and

2. Are LFC trying to move on a few surplus to requirement players to get the the deal for Moreno done and dusted?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - (1) Liverpool will not have spoken to the player but agreement was reached with his representative. (2) That would not appear to be the case.}

Surely it is about cash flow and money available - i.e. if you have £4m to make as an upfront payment and 3 further payments in the 3 following years of £4m and the selling club want £12m then £4m next year then this is more difficult to complete.

Also if selling a player rarely are they going to give you the money all upfront (unless your taking a big loss or the player is in demand (something that the players we probably want to move on are going to get).

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jun 2014 06:01:03
Ed002, with regards to the Moreno situation, do you know if Liverpool are planning on selling a few players (e.g. Reina, Agger) and coming back to Sevilla with more cash up front? Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2014 15:41:59
Should Gerrard be played in the holding role again next season?

I have said this before but one main reason our defence struggled last season was due to the lack of protection from midfield. There was always too much space between the centre backs and midfield which meant that the centre backs were constantly left exposed and often punished. What we missed the most was a strong, tough tackling, pacey defensive midfielder.

Maybe Emre Can is what we missed last season. Personally, I haven't seen much of him so I cannot comment on his ability, but hopefully he will fit the bill.

The dilemma is, what do we do with Gerrard? He hasn't got the legs nor the qualities needed to be a defensive midfielder. He hasn't the legs to do box to box and he can no longer play as an attacking midfielder. He has always been an excellent passer of the ball and that is something I wouldn't want to lose from the team, but what changes need to be made to ensure Gerrard remains in the squad?

My suggestion would be to continue with the 4-4-2 diamond. Play Can CDM, with Gerrard and Henderson either side of the diamond. Sterling at the point of the diamond with SAS up front. We would need to upgrade both fullbacks to provide the width as they will be key to providing the pace especially at Gerrard's side.

That would be one way to accommodate Gerrard in the squad.

Any other suggestions or opinions?

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2014 16:09:01
I think the reason Gerrard was drop into CDM position was his lack of pace. Playing in a diamond, You need to work very hard, and don't see Gerrard lasting 90 mts.
He should be rotated with Can

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he can have a guaranteed first team by the end of next season
as you say he does not offer the required protection for a defensive midfielder
although if played as you say he should be then it will be like a alonsoesque role
although this formation might be too defensive for a home game
I would play him in the first half of the season until can finds his feet and then shift to a can Henderson partnership which for me is the future

Agree0 Disagree0

I think, simply, that Gerrard shouldn'tbe first choice next season. He's had a glittering career, been nothing short of superb for us and deserves the respect of every LFC fan around the world. The truth is that he doesn't have the legs to get up and down the pitch anymore and doesn't really have the discipline to play the defensive part of the CDM role. I think he needs to be used far less next season but be given more chances to come of the bench and have an impact - with 20 minutes to go, in a tough away game, him coming onto the pitch could make the difference.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jun 2014 00:13:43
Honestly think Gerrard really excelled in that role as the season went on - have him with Hendo and Coutinho or Sterling etc, players that have the legs and he does a great job, his range of passing is fantastic and that can make the difference esp on the counter - wouldn't write him off just yet

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jun 2014 09:49:09
Yes, but with Emre Can now in the team, he should be slowly integrated into the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

From what I have seen I think you will find Can is more of a Gerrard MK1, not a direct replacement for Gerrard MK2.

A few Gerrard haters now writing his obituary, now Gerrard is to blame for Englands defensive deficiencies as a well as Liverpools hey! how has this guy ever played for club and country?

Fair play to a few posters who have
in the past criticised Gerrard but have so far resisted taking a dig at him for admittedly below par performance against Uruguay.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - personally I don't care if Gerrard (or any other player for that matter) is out of this world or the worst player in the world when playing for someone else. I only care how they get on when they are wearing the Liverbird on their chest. International competitions are a complete irrelevance to me. But to judge anyone by their performance under Woy, who has shown how inept he was when managing us to disaster after disaster, is insane! The guy spends the build up to the game firing up the opposition's best player, then puts shackles on a midfielder whose best attribute is the ability to charge up and down the pitch all day. Hardly fair to judge Gerrard on those kind of performances, especially when his big 'mistake' was just as much the fault of the defence, who made the criminal error of not tracking a runner. First rule of defending, always expect a mistake by your own players and position yourself accordingly.}

Me niether Ed01, my inability to care about England goes back to a kid waiting patiently and staying up late for wednesday nights to watch sportsnight only to be let down by another abject display, that was in the 70's and nothing has happened since to change my thoughts on England.
I must admit they played better than expected against Italy and I got a little (just a little) sucked into thinking hey you never know, but do you know what I should have known better.
I did say at the start of the tournament that the only way England would do anything was unleashing the young attacking talent (Sterling, Barkley, Shaw) and go out and have a go but with Hodgson in charge it was silly to think would happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 15:40:50
I hope to God Suarez stays, I really do and in my honest opinion he really does love the club.

IF, IF. He does go. I really don't see it as the end of the world. I don't think Rodgers is as stupid enough to do what Spurs did and buy 9 players.

Last season our attack was far greater than defence, infact, at times our defense was not top half standard. E.G we condeded 3 against Cardiff, Stoke and Palace. We can buy a striker, a really, really high quality striker that fits in to our system IF Suarez goes. Furthermore, we can go from looking to buying good players like Lovren, to really high quality defenders giving us that defensive stability we craved last season. This would give us a very good balance to the team as what we lose in attack we would gain in defence and concede less goals. This is all hypothetical of course IF Suarez leaves.

Look, of course he is WORLD CLASS, a term thrown losely around these days, and of course he WILL be detrimental to our team, but not as detrimental as some are claiming. I trust Brendan I really do.

I hope Suarez stays aslong as he can in the world cup, remains concentrated and come back t us at full fitness raring to go for preseason:)

Players will ALWAYS come and go but Liverpool will always remain.

The is NO buy out clause in Suarez' contract!
He has said himself he is very happy and feels loved by the fans, he also said himself that there is no special release clause in his contract with ties to barca or Madrid!
This has come out of his own mouth.
Forlan said he's spoken to Luis and he's told him he will snub interest from barca and Madrid because he's very happy at Liverpool.

U think the club are stupid enough to put a 62m release clause in his contract? FFS guys he won't be going anywhere!

The papers are guessing, just like if a LB scores a hatrick today at some point there will huge interest from Liverpool because we need a left back, all the papers do is guess and hope one comes off.

You are right till this moment. you can't predict what happens in future. If he goes, It would be a world record fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Let me get this right, you think it is not possible to predict what will happen in the future but you predict it will be a world record fee if he goes?}

From a LFC perspective it would be incredible dumb to make a clause that will only affect Barcelona and Madrid (making it cheaper to buy Suarez). These clubs have plenty of money to burn, so why insert a clause that will most likely reduce the amount of money LFC will receive? I´m not buying it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You should all move on from speculating about the contract conditions that Suarez has.}

ohhh yes. that's a valid point. you caught me yet again ed002.

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe LS will be staying at LFC for the long term. Additionally, I just feel RM and Barca are not the big draw that they used to be + both teams have the biggest egos in the game (Ronaldo and Messi), and surely would'nt want the spotlight taken away from them.

Done Deal! Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer for 52million his buyout clause is 68million to any club apart from real an barca who only have to pay 52million but barca fended off Real Madrid this will happen

Dude that was funny. You really should start writing for the metro.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's so laughable that Suarez has a good game against England and now Barcelona have agreed to sign him for a lower fee than everybody else and that he also has a buyout clause which nobody even knows exists or not.

Seriously guys give me a break Suarez will be playing for Liverpool next season.

Hi Ed, I am a Liverpool fan and don't get me wrong I would love for Suarez to still be at Liverpool this coming season. However, If Barcelona or Real Madrid do come in with a bid of around 80Mil and if I was BR I would sell him and use the money to expand and improve the team by going for Lazar Marković, Alexis Sanchez, Shaqiri, Max Meyer, Alberto Moreno, Lallana and Lovren. Liverpool is just not about 1 individual (Suarez). We have a excellent squad of youngsters but if BRs backroom staff are trying to penny pinch again with lack of funds i.e with the Moreno deal then sell Suarez if a huge fee comes in and pay what teams are asking for if reasonable. What do you think Ed:

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool cannot afford to do anything like that at all. Sorry.}

20 Jun 2014 13:10:04
look how well that worked out for spurs.

imo it needs to be a crazy amount for us to consider. he is in top3 players in the world with the work ethic & attitude to go with it. if we do sell we need to buy no more than 3 players with the cash. not 8/9 10mil players

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 13:29:01
I'm not an Ed - but if it means anything, I think it's crazy to contemplate the idea of selling our only true world class player, whatever the price.
The lad is priceless to us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats like 5 attacking players to replace one? One of shaqiri/Sanchez one of Meyer/lallana type players a left back and centre back will do! Maybe another forward/winger at a push. If he left we would probably go 4-3-3 with sturridge central and sterling plus another one side!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 13:46:13
But you could field only 1 every game. don't forget that.

Agree0 Disagree0

MF - When Spurs sold Bale they brought in x mount of players and it has simply not worked out for them, we need 2 maybe 3 first team players to go one step further, if Suarez was sold for £80M than the targets we were to go for would be overlay inflated and we would pay over the odds to get them, Suarez will stay at Liverpool next season i'm sure of it.

Big D

I kinda in a delamma mate, Selling him is a huge gamble, As there aren't any player who could make an impact as he does. But the money is another obsession.

One thing for sure, He is going to have a cracking world cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry I agree that there is no one out there right now that could replace Suarez and do what he has done for us that's why I would not sell him.

As I said in a earlier post Liverpool have already got the core/base of the team and with the hopeful arrivals of Moreno, Lovren & Lallana for the first team, along with Can, Lambert & possibly loan returns of Suso & Borini, I feel we should be able to maintain a title challenge again but this time go the extra step and win it.

i wonder where are all the fans on here who want to sell suarez are today, last night we seen an half fit saurez knock england out of the world cup on his own, the man is the best player on the planet, and some on here are willing to let him go to get sanchez, well everyone has their own opinions, its a pity some times their opinions are very very wrong, we should keep saurez and build the team around him and add quality players to make our team much stroonger and better

Believable0 Unbelievable0

None of us want suarez sold
it is just that a group of the fans (including me) realize that there is a good possibility that suarez might be sold and are prepared for something like this instead of abusing him if he does move

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jun 2014 13:12:19
being prepared for it and thinking we will be fine as long as we buy sanchez are 2 different things. I wouldn't begrudge him the move now as he gave us another great year which he owed to the club after we stood by him. I am also under no illusion that the loss of him would be massive

Hi eds quick question?
I've just been told that barca are trying to sign Suarez, which I gathered would happen!. But the source seems to think that Suarez has a release clause in his contract? I thought there was a release clause but only if we didn't make champion league then it would be activated?
Sorry if this has been done to death!
Thanks in advance eds.

{Ed002's Note - Like money, release clauses are not a matter for discussion - nor is the date at which his contract revisions become active.}

Morning Eds

I guess you must be getting sick of the lallana / lovren / moreno / suarez questions as they get done to death, and its pretty clear where the 'situations' are now

So, my question is this

'IF' Suraez was to leave.do you know what BR / The clubs targets would then be post the sale?.

Has interest / awareness been registered with players / clubs representitives / agents in the wake of any such sale?. putting aside the above mentioned

Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of what the club plan on doing, but it will certainly have been discussed.}

If Suarez leaves which I hope not then I would like Pogba and Sanchez to replace him.
