An interesting day coming up for us fans with rumors flying about over Suarez to Madrid. Should Madrid bid an acceptable amount and we have a replacement lined up I would be more than glad to see him go. I just hope that we end the day in no worse a situation than we started.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't need a replacement. we have sturridge who is finally being given a chance to prove he is a quality central striker but we would need a decent back up

Agree0 Disagree0

You are mad, we defo need a replacement if Suarez go to Real. You imagine what will happen if Sturridge and Aspas gets injured

An good performance. We pushed our luck at times but the game is about goals and points at the end of the day. I am hoping that Aspas and Alberto are still settling in because they certainly looked out of place today. Henderson is going from strength to strength.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Give them time, mate. That is about as quick and intense as it gets. Hendo has played in the EPL before and it still took him a season and a half at Liverpool.

Just a quick question eds.

If RM were too come in with a serious bid for Suarez tomorrow(which there's obviously a good chance they will)who is there that we have enquired about that could possibly take his place in such a short amount of time? Would we take the deal?

Probably the most annoying question ever but iv only got one more day to annoy you lot ;)

Appreciate everything you do eds. {Ed002's Note - I have given you a summer of responses to this. They still stand.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2013 21:54:43
Eds do u think Liverpool will let Suarez leave without having a replacement a lot of rumours going around that an offer from Madrid will be made {Ed002's Note - I suspect Liverpool are aware that there will possibly be a bid en route. We will see what happens.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We should probably reject any Madrid bid as a matter of principle. They chased Bale for months before signing him and should have bid for Suarez weeks ago, giving us a suitable time frame to possibly hash out a deal for a replacement.
Especially when Suarez went public with his desire to go there since June. A bid now would seem slightly disrespectful as you ask the club to part with arguably their best player with only a matter of hours to replace him. {Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with respect. Do you think Liverpool are being disrespectful about Moses, Sakho and Ilori?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah, but Ed, our pursuits of Sakho and Ilori have both gone on for a while, we have reportedly tabled bids, had them knocked back and gone again. Moses is a completely different case as he's been made available by his club, and only in the past few days since the arrival of Willian. Chelsea won't be looking to replace him.
In my humble opinion, a deadline day bid gives us very little leeway in terms of finding a replacement, but then my opinion is bound to be slightly biased. If I were a Madrid fan I'd be saying "Now, let's go get Suarez".

{Ed002's Note - Real Madrid has a sustained interest and has made a bid that has already been rejected. Liverpool know another bid is likely and know the player wishes to leave. You seem to expect different rules for Liverpool from everyone else.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Ed02 here. Too many fans expect different rules for Liverpool.

Evening eds, a very happy red here. how do you guys see tomorrow panning out? I don't seem to think it going 2 b as hectic at usual, I mean I can see a few deals going through & think it b arsenal who b the big spenders tomorrow but do you guys think it going 2 b a bit of a slow one tomorrow with a few big deals going through(hopefully lfc will pull a big one out of the bag with sakho ilori & moses) or u think we going 2 c deals galore? Cheers guys have a good one. {Ed002's Note - Torrow will see a flurry of activity, some depression, some joy.}

Ed002. In your honest opinion, do you think Sakho, Ilori and moses will wrap up Liverpools transfer dealings this window or in your opinion is there the possibility of one more? Replies would be much appreciated. {Ed002's Note - I expect there is a chance that there will be other "transfer dealings" Luke.}

Eds not lfc related as we are not in for him but whoever lands Ozil they are going to be getting a superb player. Highest assists in Europe 86 if can remember correctly. What do you think of him as a player ed02 pls {Ed002's Note - A decent player.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2013 20:09:19
Ed002 just wondering if the moses, sakho and llori deals are near to being completed and also if there is any interest for any other players from us

Cheers {Ed002's Note - There is every probability all three will complete tomorrow. As for anyone else arriving, perhaps it will depend on someone leaving.}

I friggin love lfc. today was just awesome. obviously I want us to finish top 4, but the way the season has started and the way the team is playing, I just can't be more proud. I don't care about who Spurs is signing, who is managing MU, or how much MC is spending, or how little Arsenal are spending. Top 4 or not, I love this club and we are on the right track. YNWA!

Just a general question Eds?
How many games does a player have to play to qualify for a Premier League Medal if the team wins?
Which leads me on to. (I don't suppose it happens too often) if a loan player plays 6 months or a month and doesn't finish the season with the winning team, do they still get a medal? {Ed001's Note - 10 to qualify, but clubs can apply for one for a player who plays less than that. It doesn't matter if the player leaves in January, if they made 10 first team appearances prior to going, for the team that win the league, they get a medal.}

Hi editors & red army,
Its been said 20 times today but I have to say it again.
Thank you Martin, can't be easy to go from player of the year to outside looking in, in little over a season.
So thank you Martin, for today, for the lsdt 6? Seasons.

Eds the Ozil to Arsenal rumours are sprouting everywhere and after Arsene's hint that there is a big name possibly arriving, could it really be true? {Ed001's Note - I don't know, the only offer for him I know of was from PSG.}

Hello eds, just wondering about yesil as he was on fire pre injure last year but I haven't heard anything since? Cheers! {Ed001's Note - that's because he was only back for pre season training after the injury! Give him time to recover his level, it can take a while after a long layoff like he had.}

can we show some appreciation for mike marsh aswell. he's clearly doing a great job in his first season as first team coach.

this follows on from his success in the youth set up

good to have a scouser right at the heart of the coaching team

mmmmmmmmmmmmm so the have bale now there looking at suarez for a late 45 mill bid . I say say give us the money and benzema that will do!!

I'd be far happier with just the money. Then use it to buy what we really need, which isn't Benzema (in my opinion).

Madrid it seems will make another bid for LS. Whilst agreeing to sell Orzil to Arsenal for 42m.

Missing a trick surely, let them have LS for 20m plus Orzil, I'd be happy with that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Arsenal is offering 45m+5m for him. Why would they not take that.

Agree0 Disagree0

No way.they are the ones who want him let's make them pay up.86m for bale 60m for suarez

Agree0 Disagree0

Who? I think a bid of £20m + Orville the duck will tempt Liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal value a 30 goal a season goal scorer around the same as someone who's been struggling for the past 6 months at Real Madrid. That's the Real story here. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2013 22:12:08
Watching tv arsenal 42 million for ozil wow if that's true they value ozil at 42 million but offer only 40million and 1 pound for saurez I rate ozil but if I had a choice I'd take saurez over ozil any day in this climate saurez must be a 60 million player makes the 40 million offer for him look even more insulting now

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Give me a choice between Oezil and Suarez and I'd take Oezil every time. He's a very, very good player and much less of a selfish jerk.

It is great to see us sitting top of the table. Way to early to think anything of it. Look at westbrom last year, flying for a while until there bubble burst. Still think top four is out of reach. The quality some of the other clubs will tell come the end of the season. We need to offer a lot more in the second half of matches as we are riding our luck abit in the 3 league matches this season, long may that luck be with us you do need it to win anything, but it tends to even out over a season. I am 100% behind the team and the management just not sure about BR or not yet. This season will tell. One thing is for sure, either Venger, Rogers or Boas will be sacked at the end of this season. let's just hope it's not BR. Hoping for 4th no excuses.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

. awful post. Completely disagree with you. Rodgers in my opinion is doing a fantastic job! Absolutely fantastic!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2013 21:13:07

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2013 20:31:01
Eds, it's a bit early but do you think we can win the title? {Ed001's Note - no.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Top 4 is what we need to focus on achieving, although to finish high you need to aim high and there is no higher than winning the league. If we could get top 4 this season, add a few quality signings at RB, LB, CDM and maybe up front (to replace Suarez), then I feel we may have a chance of winning the league next season. But for this season no. Cheers.

Why not? Shanks would say yes

If and when Borini goes out on loan, it leaves us short up front. We'd have DS and LS. IA for RM and Coutinho/Moses Ledt wing. Surely then, if
Borini goes we have to get in another striker. Have any of the Eds heard a rumour of a striker coming in tomorrow?

Cheers {Ed001's Note - Moses can play there, Ibe, Sinclair, etc. Then we have Sterling providing extra cover out wide. Not sure how you figure out we are short up front, unless you mean in height?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Ed001. What I mean is for the central ST, we only really have DS and Borini - so if FB leaves were short for that central striker position. {Ed001's Note - Moses can play as a striker, as does Aspas, Yesil, Morgan, Ibe and Sinclair, just off the top off my head.}

Agree0 Disagree0

But as 2nd striker can we rely on youngsters, a new signing who is new to the league and a winger come forward? With an injury prone LS I see us needing one more - IF Borini goes.

Hi guys

Last year we made our worst start to a season in something like 50 years. This year we have made our best start to a season in something like 20 years. That's some turnaround in the space of 12 months!

I was just wondering what are the thoughts on our play over the last few games?

We seem to come and try to hit our opponents with a sucker punch. Once we have the goal in the bag we sit back and resolutely defend what we have, hopefully hitting the opposition on the break.

Is BR trying to implement a similar model to what he worked under whilst at Chelsea? It reminds me a bit of JM's team tactics first time round where they would do something similar.

Here's hoping the lads get through the international break injury free and continue their winning ways!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Its funny because last year we deserved to get points from our first 3 games we've not played as well in the first 3 this year but have full points but we've been much improved in defense this year lot more resolute hopefully with moses coming in coutinho can move into the middle he seems more effective there and with saurez to return hopefully our offense will match our defense and we can make a real push for top 4

Sturridge has been presented the opportunity at LFC to show the footballing world exactly just how good he is when he is a regular starter. He is taking this opportunity and is excelling effortlessly. If he can keep this up throughout the season there is no reason why can't become one of the top scorers in the Premier League.

Fantastic result today, there seems to be a real steel in the team mentality that is being projected onto the pitch. The spirit seems to be higher. Really exciting stuff.

Forgot to mention Lucas, 3 cheers!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That shows how well he did. His role is not to be the 'star' or the goal scorer. In a game like this, especially the second half, his role is to protect the back 4 as much as possible.

Have you seen how there has been little mention of him and Gerrard? That's how well they did.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lucas was immense today! Wish he shot on goal when he had the chance today. Ed's why doesn't the club work on Lucas to shoot, he usually has a couple chances a game? {Ed002's Note - You don't seriously expect an answer?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ronillz I agree he finds himself in a position to shoot at least twice a match yet opts to pass it into a player who has his back to the goal + is being tightly marked! its frustrating to know when he was playing in brazil he would have taken a shot a likely scored.

BR needs to tell him to open up a little, being a DM doesn't mean not to contribute to the goals when opportunities come about.

May I just say, Jordan Henderson- what a player!
At the game again today and he was my man of the match.
Good in the first half allowing coutinho and sturridge the chance to impress, but the second half he was immense! Breaking down attacks, judging the times to counter and to just keep the ball perfectly. Such a good run of form from him I got his name on my back!
Tell you what eds, fulham should be kicking themselves for opting to sell dempsey to spurs for £6m, rather than to us for Hendo & £4m

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Henderson was my man of the match too. I think he only gave the ball away once, pressed well and ran his legs off himself.

Agree0 Disagree0

'Hendo' is fast becoming one of my favourite players in the team. I love knowing he's starting a match. His work rate and desire to press and also get forward is immense. A fantastic attitude but also has understated technical ability (his goal against Notts County).

In my opinion if he continues to develop as he is now he will be a top box to box midfielder by 25, an England regular and potentially a future LFC captain not to dissimilar to our legendary number 8! If he can get 6-10 goals this season it would be a perfect benchmark to push on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Now we get down to the final few hours of the transfer window we will see whether any big surprises come out. Latest information seems to be that Ozil will be coming to EPL maybe to Man U or maybe to Arsenal.

No doubt some other big names could be moving as well but there is nothing that we can do about that and we should not really be too jealous. Instead we should take a deep breath and say thank you to John Henry for backing Brendan and allowing us to bring in some pretty astute signings.

We look to have done really good business with Mignolet and Kolo Toure. Very impressive.

Aspas works really hard and give him time to settle and he could be really useful this season.

From what Ed002 has said Sakho seems to be the real deal and if he can play LB as well as CB then that is a bonus.

Would like Brendan to arrange a 100 metre race between Ibe Sterling and Lloris to see who is quickest.

Great credit to Brendan. Apart from the fact that we are top of the league with a 100 per cent record he sounds and acts like a proper Liverpool manager. Given that we are celebrating Bill Shankly's 100 birthday it is fitting that we have left the Hicks Gillett era well behind and we are beginning to look like a proper club again.

Happy days.

You just know Real Madrid are going to bid for Suarez tomorrow. It'd be interesting to see what we do?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree0 Disagree0

If they offer 50-60 I would take it.

our results without him are better.

i'd rather let the young lads play than have him wanting to leave all the time

we might even be able to pick up yarmalenko AND turan tomorrow for that money! two players who would love to play for the team at the top of the prem!!

Ed#2 I've been tryin to keep away from asking you questions at this stressful time! But could you see RM bidding for LS tomorrow? {Ed002's Note - Absolutely.}

Hi everyone,

I am by no means getting carried away but I'd like to think the doom Sayers are feeling pretty silly right now.

It's great to see sakho, illori and Moses in the crowd, this answers the fog have no ambition critics.

I don't think we need to splurge 20mil on yarmalenko in this window. We have Suarez to come back who will clearly occupy the lw position.

I think Moses is a wise move too, he is certainly good enough to plug a gap on rw and provide depth. I like Ibe and sterling a lot but they are not much more than pure potential at the moment. I think Moses will out score the 2 of them put together.

Top of the league for the international break, who would of thought it!?

I take no game is a given in this league espec looking at the games away to swansea then home to southampton . but 6points from those 2 games will show were we are with the free flowing counter attack football they play. I mention arsenal because they could be 2nd to us at that time noting their interim games

Wisdom will move on loan tomorrow. A few clubs interested

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Either Fulham or Wigan.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really like Wisdom. He will be some player for us in the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would keep Wisdom- he is versatile and can fill in at right back as well as CB - if GJ is injured we don't have too much cover there as Kelly seems to be quite unlucky on the injury front

Agree0 Disagree0

Probably to the championship I think so we have an option to recall but I wonder if Johnno injury is bad will he move?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom isn't technicaly good for rb and to small for cb. championship is his level

Agree0 Disagree0

Really? Who will be rb cover? {Ed008's Note - Flanagan?

Agree0 Disagree0

Possibly Guy but I'm informed that its still very likely. What I was told is BR is very keen for him to play consistently for a season in prem or championship so keeping him may knock back his development for a season. I would have thought with Kelly and Flannagan plus the new lads that Wisdom may still be loaned out and effectively be a new signing next summer hopefully along with the likes of suso, robbo etc that are already out on loan.

To be fair to harry I'm sure he would be chuffed if he was around he only seems to be not impressed with allen and borini and as neither played today he would have no reason to eat humble pie steak and kidney maybe but no humble

I am here mate. Well played. I always had difference in the opinion about some players. especially borini and Allen. so proved again. without them.we looks real good and disaster to send borini on loan after spending 11 mill last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Waro would only be complaining that there isn't enough humble in the pie.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Holt, what are you chattin! Explain yourself, if you can! If you want a literal answer then I'm just about to watch M.O.T.D. with more beer! But I will be checking in on here every 10 minutes to see if you have explained yourself!

It's not having Suarez that is the big plus this year Harry

After this early form and also the way Sturridge is playing, I just hope Rodgers now has the balls to play Susrez on the left, arguably his most effective position where he will still score goals but his creative ability would be immense for Sturridge to tuck away.
Lets be honest, Suarez is fantastic but he has 10 shots game and scores 1, Sturridge has a much better knack for those killer goals and would thrive off Suarez' creative ability and also following shots in, its where Suarez plays for Uruguay and where he would do best for us, Rodgers needs to go for it and back Sturridge.

Anfield Andy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Honestly think he'll play him behind Sturridge more than on the left. With Coutinho and Henderson on either side of both of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow, suarez is certainly the player with the most shots in the world then, because suarez did score some hattrick last season, lol. I do agree that we'll be better with suarez on the left wing with sturridge as our striker

Agree0 Disagree0

I do think Sturridge will be leading the line with Suarez off the flanks. I really hope so anyway!

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree. suarez himself has always said that the front man is not his natural position

we'll get far more from him as a left sided attacker

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2013 18:56:10
Hello Eds,
with Borini going out on loan, do you see another attacker coming in?
We would defo need another attacker in as Aspas is yet to really set the league alight. {Ed002's Note - Moses.}

So anyone think Rodgers was right about the Fergie factor thing? I do. Thought we were very good today but still worried about falling off the pace in the second half, other than that absolutely ecstatic about the result; can't wait for work tomorrow, I live in Manchester so its going to be great!

great Result!

Finally people have woken up! Henderson is a class act and is getting better all the time! scored some terrific goals last season and looks like he has kicked on further. By far and wide the best 'athlete' at the club. could run all day this boy and with a bit more work can be a very good player!

Heard a Man United fan say 'I hope Henderson is playing we will hammer them '! Just a quick mention, Did Henderson crumble under the pressure? No, but Cleverley did! where is this 'great player' Kagawa they go on about? I don't know if or if not he was injured but really not as good as think he is.

Hi all,

I've been digging since my post yesterday on the Skrtel situation. I'm now told that he is not expected to leave tomorrow, but will instead stay until January to let the new boys settle in. He will then likely move to Russia if there is still interest or Napoli if they still need him.

Are you hearing this as well Eds, or is my information false?

Cheers in advance {Ed002's Note - Nobody plans for January transfers in the summer. And players don't just hang out for a few months to help others settle in on the off chance that a previously interested club might still be interested.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What I meant was that he would be allowed to leave in January if there was still interest (which at the moment is mainly from Russia and Napoli), but you have to admit hoping the new guys will settle straight away is a little bit of a risk, if Dagger or Toure get a serious injury they would be thrown in at the deep end a little. Skrtel is an experienced premier league player and I don't think we will sell him tomorrow unless we feel we need to.

So in your opinion he will leave tomorrow Ed2? {Ed002's Note - I got a bunch of abuse by explaining about the CB situation, so you can now wait to see what happens.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry about the abuse Ed, what's the point in abusing the few people here to make the site as god as it is? Stupidity!

Anyway, I hope Skrtel stays, at least till January, he showed today how solid he can be and always plays his heart out whenever he gets on. I think this would take the pressure off Sakho to perform straight away and would benefit us in the long run.

That being said, if he does go, then I wish him all the best, I don't think we could have asked for any more from him!

An amazing match in terms of discipline, concentration and assurance. A bow to all of the defense - Jonson and Enrique really stepped up after a lot of critiques and were amazing, Skrtel returned with a smile, and in all honesty our defensive play suited his strengths perfectly, and THAT shot from Agger, and beating Rio Ferdinand to the ball like a real viking, do you see how tired he was?
Also, great work from Brendan, a masterful tactical game, and I do believe the goal was the result of his idea!
Sturridge, nothing said, he is aiming for 38 goals this season :D
Cou, sadly, disappointed me today, but then again he is still developing.
And last but not least - Henderson. Another coming of age match for him, a really underapreciated player who did so much work - I think in the second half he stepped up his gear around the 60th minute, and we effectively pushed united back and held till the end of the game! Future star hendo!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2013 18:29:42
Absolutely brilliant result today! The team has developed a winning mentality and it now makes narrow games wins, unlike the first half of lady season. I do worry about Aspas though. He's seemed like quite a passenger so far. Clearly he needs game time to adapt to the league but his influence so far has been very limited. Eds, any opinion on the player? Hope he can step up!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What a joke Pieboy - Nice to see you giving a new player the chance to settle in. The lad has ran his socks off in our last 3 games, he creates space for others - the boy's work ethic is brilliant - still no pleasing some folk!

Really enjoyed watching the game today, although my baby daughter fell asleep in my arms just before kickoff so had to keep the celebrations pretty muted!

Thought the defence was tremendous all match. Big Skrtel had a blinder in his first game of the season, will be a shame to see him leave if he is off before the window shuts, but definitely signed off on a high if it is his last match. Have to say though that defensively, Enrique was my MOTM. He intercepted numerous balls through, hardly ever got beaten one on one and looked strong as an ox all game.

Finally, visiting this site is a joy when we're winning, all the genuine posters are so full of optimism and the doom and gloom mongers struggle to find anything to moan about, let's hope it lasts all season!

Seems Moyes has been paying attention to all the videos of Ferguson as a manager - he is already complaining about this, that and the other.

"I thought it was a penalty" - had a quick peek and Moyes must be the only person who thought Welbeck deserved a penalty for his laughable fall.

At least he has his excuses in early.

As a Chelsea supporter I feel that all these favours are completely one sided. Come on lads We gave you £50m for practically nothing in return, we let you have Sturridge for practically nothing, we are lending you a future star for practically nothing, we trained your manager, and now you are top of the league. It about time you gave us something in return, how about letting us up Suarez. Seriously well done for being top of the league. Having supported Chelsea for 50 years and watching the great Liverpool teams under shanks and bob paisley, and always losing to you, it's good to think that you might be on the verge of something big again. Because of my age Liverpool will always be the biggest team in English history and not Man U. Well done

johnson surely did put in his A-game defensively.
now I wonder why he doesn't do it everytime?.
anyways massive 3 points. mignolet is a very composed.
aspas had a down game. it was lovely to see us scoring from a setpiece and defending it. though I must say united never threw the kitchen sink at us. they are a very average team without rooney.

Anybody slagging of and critizising Jordan Henderson, go and boil your heads. the lad was today, and has been all season magnificent, really come of age. Well done Martin, sign of class when you can come in and give a man of the match performance like he did. Massive, Massive win today without being overly impressive going forward.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was immense today - ran his socks off but has plenty of quality too. Getting better all the time

Agree0 Disagree0

Great match for him, an amazingly versatile player!

Agree0 Disagree0

The lad reminds me of Ronnie Whelan and that's high praise.

Agree0 Disagree0

You can list individual players and worry about Spurs signings all day but in football nothing is achieved without working as a TEAM. Henderson epitomises what a team player is. If you ain't having a great day, work your socks off. Today he was immense, especially late on seeing the game out. It wasn't really set up for Aspas & Coutinho. When it got aggressive they started to snatch at things and the ball was getting away from them. It was tye right call by BR to sub them. But winning and losing as a team is what gets you rewards. We seem to have something extra this year compared to last and long may it continue.

Well done Brendan and the team, this was the first massive test of the season and we did brilliantly.

Great win, not so great performance but at the end of the day its the result that matters. I would love for us to sign a top attacker. Moses is a decent.acquisition but if we were to sign another match winner into the starti ng 11 imo we could be challenging for tue title.

Great result today. Defended extremely well as a team. Think we still need to improve up front, didn't seem to click. although not sure if that is that is because we were set up to defend the lead?

Now we have added pace with moses would like someone such as turan to give us more quality and options, allowing us to change things about depending on opposition.

What a fantastic win today, a really big three points I think, even at this stage of the season!

Was just wondering if anybody thinks we may see BR play 3 at the back at all this season. It seems that we are holding a lot of centre backs atm (Agger, Kolo, Skrtel, Sakho, Ilori, Wisdom, Kelly) and although 1 or 2 may leave tomorrow, I think it could suit us with Johnson and Enrique as wingbacks, especially as we lack a lot of real wingers.

Thoughts?

We'll play 3 5 2 with Enrique/sissokho down the left so coutinho can play 10 with Daniel & Luis up top

Di Marzio says Sunderland are close to a Borini loan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am watching the arsenal-spurs game. And I am wondering what was all the fuss about some of the spurs players?

Has Erik Lamela even touched the ball yet? Oh now he just took a wimpy shot.
Difficult to judge their players but I think their quality is a bit overstated.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they have top four quality no doubt. It might take a bit of time for they're squad to gel. For our sake I hope they never do!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh didn't see much at that game but think lamela was a good buy. Only question is when it'll pay off, not been overly impressed with Soldado but meant to be a quality player and could take time to adjust (though ATM Sturridge looks much better). Midfielders they have are amazing in my opinion, may lack flair to unlock teams but great in every other area. Though of I was a spurs fan would be worried with defenders! If they lose vertonghan or Dawson could be in massive trouble (dunno what their new guys like!) and don't rate any of their full backs! Also if he stays we do have Saurez he as much as would rather he left early in the window could work massively in our favour

Agree0 Disagree0

Said the same thing about Spurs signings not impressing me and got "Harry'd".

I think they'll miss Bale.

Ive heard from a reliable source that Liverpool will put in an emergency bid on deadline day for Ince if they cannot agree a fee with yarmelenko. Eds do you think this is possible? Ince scored a fantastic goal against Watford yesterday won the game for them even though they should have lost. I hope we sign him I think we were stupid to let him go in the 1st place because he was 1 of our best academy players. Plus do you see Agger and sakho playing together in defence? both are left footed. Cheers eds {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what an "emergency bid" is.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2013 17:47:42
Is it like a cheeky bid, but for someone you actually want/have a chance of getting, but the offers are generally more ridiculous.

"Arsenal have put in an 'emergency bid' on transfer deadline day for Benzema, which is £20 million + 46 pence, Rosicky, Kev the Cafeteria cook and 17 copies of a pre-release of Arsene Wenger's autobiography 'Tall, Handsome and Devilishly Clever: A Frenchman's Tale' (film to follow shortly)"

Better add this to the dictionary, along with "Cheeky Bid", "Smokescreen", "RTP/RTFP" and "Person".

All the Tottenham lovers watch this game. Arsenal are literally ripping Tottenham midfield to shreds one ball through and they are off. And that is why you guys ain't manager!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be frank, you can't judge this Spurs team till January.

However a part of me thinks they have assembled a youtube playlist of players. I just feel that a lot of their self-assurance and confidence comes from their price tags.

If they lose 2 games in a row, things may go really bad for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

And Soldado is SolDoodoo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ofcourse not gud but I'm just saying it because of all the Liverpool fans getting "happy" over Tottenhams signings. Although when they gel they could still have an amazing squad. Wish we could play them now!

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't judge the Spurs team until January? £100 million spent and you think they will get let off until January? Total nonsense.

Been a fan since the championship winning days of the 80's.
We used to win ugly sometimes then, nothing wrong with it.

Sturridge is fast becoming a goalscoring superstar for us.
He would have made it big at Chelsea if he was a foreign player, thanks Carlo and Di Matteo but especially Rafa for selling him to us so cheap :)

Skrtel was superb today as was Henderson for his graft.
Not sure about Moses on loan, would rather buy him or find another permanent incoming target such as Ince (just an example).

Well done today lads, lost a stone in sweat I must admit :)
Against the odds wins are easily the best ones.

Hi ed's, just a simple question, can you see any surprise signings on deadline day tomorrow, not counting the three obvious ones? Obviously with moses now in the squad our need for a left winger is less prominent, but surely I can't be the only fan disappointed that we made a £30 million bid for a quality player only to have the back up of a loan move for a chelsea failure? Fantastic result today, YNWA

Cissoko and Moses = 2.

Great job today guys. Happy birthday Sturridge and Happy Birthday to Bill Shankly for tomorrow.

And if anyone suggests we are struggling (not playing well at the moment), in Shankly's immortal words.
"Ay, here we are struggling at the top of the league."

TO ALL EDS (Even Ed 01) AND FELLOW FANS!

I am eating humble pie! I salute the boys and BR for getting the result today. I dreaded the worst and had butterflies (Eagles, more like) for the last 20 minutes.

I have criticised FSG for not investing and BR for not finishing deals!

Our boys were men today. If Suarez had played today we would've won with comfort!

I was worried we won't sign anyone but seeing Sakho, Ilema (spelling) and Moses sitting and watching made me realise we are going to have a very balanced team. Suarez will be the icing on the cake!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm certainly not a GJ hater Red Vinny but you can't ignor that in most games he's not a great defender. I could live with that if his attacking play more than made up for it BUT again, in most matches he actually does not produce enough which is a shame because I like his power on the ball when he's on his game.

I have to say i'm loving winning 1-0 and "winning ugly" Although it ain't good for the nerves but I firmly believe that its something we have lacked for years in grinding a result out without playing that well. Long may it last. Its also good to see the 3 new additions watching us today. Maybe a surprise tomorrow? Maybe only if Suarez leaves I would guess. Well done today boys, one game at a time. Oh, by the way! Van Persie should have been sent of in my opinion. There was no elbow in his direction and you can't go raising your hands. He's a very lucky man. Typical of Utd to get such a decision tho. ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am really happy with the win but a long way to go, great to see new players as well, can't say I know much about them but I trust our club to buy the right ones. actually i'm chuffed to bits .

Hello Ed002,
very happy with today`s result, not with the way the game went, esp in the second half. With this result in the bag do you think it`ll be easier to convince Suarez to stay for few more years?thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Suarez wants to leave Tom, the result today won't change that. But as he has said, he understands that he might need to be held hostage another year until someone pays the ransom. He has said he will leave regardless then.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Eds
Was just wondering with you saying that Suarez will leave regardless what do you think his genuine reason for wanting to leave is? Surely if it was champions league then surely if we got this then he would stay? And clearly isn't media as he was keen on arsenal, so what do you believe is the real driving force
Thanks {Ed002's Note - This has been beaten to a pulp already - try reading the hundreds of posts on the matter.}

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair ed002 suarez says a lot of things. Suarez is a complete fool. i'm dreading him coming back it's like a big dark cloud. Hopefully I'm wrong though and he improves us but I can just see his ego taking us down. He's an amazing player but after his comments it will not be good for the dressing room.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will leave and go where? Doesn't he have 2 years on his contract after this season? {Ed002's Note - He was happy to leave to Arsenal so finding a home for him won't be difficult.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He's very moody and I'm not sure he himself has said he's leavin next year for sure. That being said, who cares? I'd sell him tomorrow if we could get yarmolenko

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd happily sell him to RM for Di Maria, Kaka, £7m + Morata on loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

But my point was, we have to consent to him leaving. The buying club has to meet our valuation (granted it might be lower next year). A player (with the remaining length of his contract) can't just say he is leaving. {Ed002's Note - He has already said he is leaving. He has spent the summer trying to get out. It is an enormous distraction to the club and has been explained at length before.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish someone would hold me to ransom on £100k plus a week. What a silly thing to say.

01 Sep 2013 16:19:04
That's probably the worst I've watched us play in ages. but I sit through it again and again for the rest of the season if it meant we went top every time!

Journalists, media and Manchester United fans have always called it 'the sign of champions' went you can grind out 1-0 wins. Well, they better believe it. Good things are coming our way.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It wasn't, you know the other 50% of the game involves defending right? Best we have defended in the first three. Always comfortable. Stoke and Villa pushed us further.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is good. It shows how far we have come when people can't remember the turgid salads served up during the Hodgson era.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2013 17:41:59
I thought that the few chances United had which troubled us came more from 'lucky' passages of play - i.e. Welbeck, Evra and Ashley 'Goldfish' Young being tackled three/four times and somehow keeping the ball - rather than bad defending or magical play from United.

Johnson and Enrique where much improved, with great discipline and defending today.

Anyone else think we will be dark horses this year? All the focus is on newboys Moyes, Mourinho and Manuel P and Tottenham's improval/Arsenal's lack off. Seems like there is altogether less pressure on us.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2013 18:16:38
P.S. I'm not saying dark horses for winning the league, for top 4.

01 Sep 2013 16:16:08
Last few seasons we would have ended up with a player sent off, Utd equalising, then maybe them getting the winner with 5-10 mins left, great to see us grind out a result today. Similarly would have dropped points against Stoke, then Villa away. Hendo really starting to look the part, Sturridge, what a buy! Some work still to do in the final 3rd but with genuine competition for places emerging for all the outfield positions, players are really going to have to fight to keep their place which is a real positive. 3 more to come in, (if Skrtel does move on now, great game today, thanks for the service mate and best of luck), 9 points on the board already, a massive, massive congratulation to the lads, keep it going, next up a return to Brendan's old stomping ground, bring it on!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Great post mate, my thoughts exactly. I know some people will not like grinding out 1-0 wins but at the start of the season the points are important. When we get settled I am sure we will start winning more convincingly.

Not that this means anything, but I am sure Chelsea won their first 4-5 games 1-0 in Jose's first season in charge.

I am not getting ahead of myself and there is a lot of football still to play, but I have to say.

WHAT A START!!

Moyes has turned them into Everton already. Like playing the dogs of war. Pulling us back deliberate fouls on the counter attack. Loads of yellow cards. They won't like that in the theatre of dreams haha

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They just need that big cart-horse Fellaini and the transformation is complete.

Thought Wisdom's little cameo was excellent. He is first team ready, not sure a loan would be in our interests, better to keep him here I would have thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He is good. But he needs games at this level. You could see he was nervous. I would be delighted if we could get a loan deal (with play time) for him at Cardiff/Crystal palace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed he looks solid. Keep him here
He can fill in for johnson

Agree0 Disagree0

He was amazing for d 15 odd mins

he should still go on loan tho

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah we needed a Tank to come in and dominate when Johnson went off.

Man U, you gone learn today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah needs more experience to be a top player besides we got 8 CB's

Agree0 Disagree0

He is much better at RB than CB. A loan would be great for his experience, but it may be a good idea to keep him until Kelly is match fit. Maybe send him on loan in Jan if all is well with Jonno and Kelly.

Agger waved several times after the match and I am fearing that Barcelona will get the man they want. Skrtel played well and suspect he is may be staying as looked pumped.

The 3 Amigos in the stand.

Maybe one more surprise DM to enter the fray.

Rodgers wanted winners and we now have something to defend - self motivation.

With European competition around the corner we are - 'are ' contenders.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Excellent! call me sad but does a win against Manchester United always seem sweeter then any other?

Shakebur, I didn't actually see Agger waving to the crowd, hopefully he was simply thanking the crowd for their support, and not because the "books are being balanced" and he is being sold.

Couldn't fault the effort put in by any of the players, not a criticism, but I think Aspas, if he was in any doubt, is learning fast that the Premiership is a completely different beast to that of La Liga.

If I have any concerns re the squad is that we don't seem to have a mobile midfielder, who if not a first choice regular, could come on as a replacement and boost the midfield.

Again today I thought we sat back in the second half (with Stevie playing deeper) and looked slightly vulnerable when Utd increased the pressure.

Anyway, we are top of the League albeit very early on, and when was the last time I could say that.

Finally, while I truly hate to say it but I'm so glad we are not in the Europa League this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nonsense about Agger!

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't need another DM mate, Toure can cover that, I have a feeling that is why we have bought more defenders, freeing Toure to cover/start DM positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't you think Momo Sissoko would be a logical choice for DM?

Big imposing guy, technically adapt enough to play this way, cheap, knows LFC & at 28 still very young. He could be our Vieira.

and with Toure, Cissokho & Sakho here who are all french speakers he would be comfortable in the squad.

I had quite a vivid dream on Friday night that we would beat United 2 - 0, with Sturridge first scorer and Sterling last scorer. I meant to put a tenner on it but forgot to do it this morning. When Sterling cut in and unleashed that shot in injury time I thought I was going to be happy and gutted at the same time.

PS/ I had a dream about Holly Willoughby the night before and that never came true either.

As for Victor Moses, I'm fairly happy with him and think he could fit in quite well. His goal record in the Premiership is good for a wide player and he will certainly outscore Downing, as well as actually beat a man. Like Sturridge, he has something to prove so we should give him a chance and may be pleasantly surprised. Sterling and Ibe are not ready for regular games yet and need to be eased in over the next couple of seasons. Moses is ready, and will bridge that gap.

Sturridge was fantastic today. Always slowed the game down when we needed it. Hardly ever lost possession. Aspas and Henderson are work horses. It's unreal. I'm wondering which defenders are going to play, if Skrtel gets sold after that performance, if he stays then Wisdom loan and perhaps ilori loaned back? Idk. Interesting day ahead.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Winning mentality, we just beat the champions, why not try and aim for top spot? Winning is all about attitude, BR knows this, the aim will be to win it and convince the group that by being together they can achieve greatness. IMO it is way too early for us but you never know. i'm just happy with the improvements we have made and the squad has a good balance. In BR I will always trust. YNWA JFT96 GOD BLESS SHANKLY

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like Moses, Sakho, Ilori in which will max out BR's budget for this window.

Get off his back, the whole team played excellently against the Champions today!

I love Lucas, he gave Cleverly and Carrick little time in midfield. The odd soft freekick is expected by defensive midfielder's, he looked knackered at the whistle but he worked like a trooper.

Nani's free kick was woeful and RVP's was cleared by the first man in the box, no worries this time, but Lucas was a top performer for us today and deserves a big pat on the back for his efforts. Despite your squeaky bum times. :) YNWA

fabio borini. the most wasted 10 miliion we have ever purchased.not his fault.but why buy him as one of your first signings . if you have no intention of playing him ever.

if he does go out on loan. ask yourselves guys. why the hell did brendan buy him. 10 million quid. its so annoying because we can't buy people who are worth it . yet we can waste 10 million on someone who won't play.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I like aspas think he looks a good player I think he will get better as he gets used to his new team mates but to say he's a waste of 7 million after 4 competitive games is a joke joke supporting way to get behind the players in that case sakhi an ilori were rubbish not once did they make a decent tackle from the stands but seriously I think you should give players more than 4 games

Agree0 Disagree0

Alan
I doubt this will make it past the Eds

"But you are without doubt a dick"

Agree0 Disagree0

Well Rodgers knows him from previous and wanted to sign him at Swansea but finances wouldn't permit it. When Rodgers joined Liverpool he wanted to bring in bright young players with great futures and are hungry. Borini had a horrific injury plagued season last year, after a great Summer getting into the Italian national side for the summer tournament, from his awesome displays for Roma.

I think we need to be patient with players, especially ones who are foreign and get blighted by injury before they've had much a chance to bed in. Borini is still really young and it's taken Sturridge until he's 23 to really come of age, it's similar with Jordan Henderson and these are born in England players. So we must be fair and look at the situation holistically. Alberto Aquilani cost us a lot more, as did Stewart Downing, they were considered prime seasoned players with International experience, even Carroll cost three and a half times more than Borini. So Borini isn't as expensive in comparison and if we were to sell him, i'm sure we'd get most of the outlay back, he's still rated highly in Italy and only needs a run of games to remind us why. Patience (just my opinion though.)

Just remember Borini Can Do It. :)

Looks like llori, sahko, and Moses should be sorted tomorrow morning all at Liverpool game can't wait to see them in the team. If things go to plan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Only one of them can be in the first team. I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

After Skrtel's display today, maybe Rodgers has more to think about. Agger and Skrtel make their mistakes when paired up, but today were both brilliant at the back and with an in form quality keeper behind them, it really does make the difference. Respect to Pepe Reina all the way, but he did go off the boil sadly and Rodgers could see that changes were needed.

But that is the standard for Liverpool's defence and keeper. Consistent clean sheets are so important to any side that wants to dominate matches and win points as we do.

just watching the match on TV and the camera panned to the stands showing Ilori, Sakho AND Moses. 3 great additions with perhaps one more attacking player tomorrow?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the 8 new recruits: Mignolet, Toure, Illori, Sakho, Cissokho, Alberto, Moses and Aspas is all we'll get, maybe Given (not sure if true, but he's experienced). But all in all that is great that Rodgers now has a squad of players, instead of 11 players and no squad.

We have needed depth for a long time and the squad is in better shape moving forward now than when Rodgers took over last Summer. That is a huge positive for the club we all love. :) YNWA

Souness gets on my wick. He says that there 'has to be something wrong' with Sturridge - either his attitude or his behaviour - and he comes to this conclusion not by talking to coaches who he has worked with, or his old managers, but because he wasn't getting picked as first choice centre forward. What planet is this guy on. You can't dirty a players character by basing it on that half cocked theory. He really is a divvy - a good example of someone who shouldn't have their thoughts broadcast around the globe.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At Man City Daniel Sturridge was a under 21 reserve player.
Very unlikely to even get Carling or FA cup games back then.

At Chelsea they had Drogba, Anelka, Torres as the first choice options upfront of him.
When Chelsea keep buying top talents he is unlikely to get much game time.

Now he is at Liverpool, he is our main man and the focal point of our attack.
He will get games, he will get goals and he will get our love.

If Luis Suarez left in January for a team still in E/L or C/L competition can he play in those competitions seeing we aren't involved in any?

I have the LFC FA Cup DVD collection - do you ever think they'll produce a League Cup DVD set for the 8 times we have won it?

Been following in silence, but the one thing I seem to hate. Why are so many fixated on the fee of a player, just because its high that does not mean the play will work out. Willian could turn out to be a flop. But Moses may just need that chance, remember a certain striker we just bought, Chelsea and many off our fans thought it was a mistake. But look at him now, all he needed was a chance.

The fee is regardless, if BR thinks he will work for us then let get him. I would rather have a group of players that don't cost the world and together are a great team. One or two superstars don't make a great team. But eleven players that fit our system could be great.

The other thing I don't get, when people just say its only 3 million or its just 20 million what is BR thinking we should just get him etc. At 1 million its still lots of money people should open there eyes the money has to come from somewhere, someone has had to earn it. Always sounds to me that people think we have a printing machine hidden away.

I don't think we need to spend big to be great, there are players out there that don't cost the world and I get the feeling BR has that idea as well and has shown this with the players he bought in. let's just have faith that he will bring the best player in, price should not matter.

Cheers for reading. 2-1 today, good win for us

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I have to say that considering the targets around he isn't the player I would have wanted, but he wants to come here and a player who wants to play rather sit on a bench and collect a salary is the kind of guy you want.

So welcome Victor Moses, hope you prove the doubters wrong, me included, and I look forward to seeing what you can bring to our club.

Enough with the theories, hope its Flanagan last game as an LFC player. The lad is seriously not going to make it at LFC. He should definately move on.

Good Afternoon Eds and Fellow Reds! The first big day of the new EPL season has arrived and I for one cannot wait! My prediction is a positive result for BR regardless of the score today with the expected arrival of three more players in key positions (good business this weekend once complete) - The competition for places we now have can only give us strength in depth and aid us this season with more consistent results. The current squad assembled appears to be a much hungrier group of players all keen to prove themselves in a red shirt! 1-1 would be my logical first choice of result but an early Liverpool goal may well give us renewed vigour and belief and take us on to a 3 -1 Victory! What a day it could turn out to be and whatever happens today I for one still feel very upbeat about the potential of this team this season and the demise of MUFC after they suffer a few more losses! let's once again get behind BR and the boys and hope that this may well be the next step of progress to put us back in the mix in what is now a very competitive league! Just a final note to thank all the Eds for there tireless work/responses and opinions on this site over the past few months and always seeing the positives two days left boys to hold on to Suarez and then hopefully the Eds can have a breather!

So we went from Willian to Moses. real statement of intent.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Sep 2013 10:31:03
Was honestly just about to write the exact same.

Agree0 Disagree0

No, we went from Suarez going to Suarez staying. None of the players we were linked with are remotely as good as LS. Let's hope he keeps his nose clean, he scores lots, we get top 4 and (as Gerrard says) he goes to one of the biggest clubs in world football in another country for a decent fee next summer as there will be a parting of the ways make no mistake.

Agree0 Disagree0

We haven't signed Moses and if we do give him a chance u nvr know he could just be the one?

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I didn't really want Moses, but Willian hardly set the Russian or Ukrainian leagues alight, so 32m for someone unproven in the league or 1m for someone who can play at premier league level who wants to kick his career on.
Plus tag on to that we have signed two of the best up and coming defenders in Europe and you have to be slightly pleased?

Agree0 Disagree0

Your real statement of intent comes on a football field not in the transfer market. 6 out of 6 points cheers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Willian would probably have been a replacement for suarez IMO so the not signing of a gazebo type player surely indicates that suarez is now staying?

Agree0 Disagree0

So we went from the best fans in the world to you, real show of decline.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lionred willian chose another club over us so what do u want the club to do? go and spend the 30mil set aside for him just for the sake of spending it before the window shuts? does that sound familiar e.g andy carroll. obviously willian would have been better than moses but if the club feel their real targets ar not available before monday there's no point in blowing the money just for the sake of it. we've made that mistake b4.im not sure about moses but its a yr loan so we've nothing really to lose and u have to ask will he improve our current squad I would say yes. when we have a full strength 11 on the field we don't have to many attacking options spring off the bench wit 20 or 25 to go if we need something different to change the game. harsh comment by u questioning the clubs intent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope i'm not sat next to you at the game today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not a big fan of moses but while he wears the shirt I will give him my full support and hope other fans do the same.

Agree0 Disagree0

Willian? who?

not a case of sour grapes, and also won't deny that we wanted him but, at 32miln?

this guy is 25 yo, a 30miln prospect gets heard or identified at age as early as 20,
he is not part of the national setup yet, I know even coutinho isn't but coutinho is 5-6yrs younger to willian,,
not making you to read too much between the lines but a 25yo 30miln star should be playing national team alot, he has just 2 seniour caps, anyways

bigger picture is moses is experienced with epl, both with pressure (relegation at wigan) and expectations (big money move to chevesky) so he should be handy and don't forget we just have him on lone, so its more like a shrewd biz for me.

for me, atlest for this season, moses performance won't be that bad compared to willian for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

You should go support spurs this year. Then if lfc crack top 4 you could come back if you wanted too

Agree0 Disagree0

After spending 23 million on two cbs

quit whingeing ffs

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't get carried away with the idea that if you spend big money you get a superstar. It's about getting a player who fits into your system in such a way that it helps not only the team but the player aswell. Sturridge couldn't get a regular game at Chelsea, Torres has gone downhill at Chelsea.They're not bad players they just weren't right for the style of play at Chelsea.same with Moses. Some playres thrive when they get regular football, not in one minute out the next, it effects their confidence and consistency. I personally think £30m for Willian would have been wasteful when we have far more important areas on the pitch to improve ie CB which we appear to be doing. Moses would be a clever addition in my opinion, just like Toure. costing very little. He needs to improve his goal return, but the way BR plays him he will.

Agree0 Disagree0

Glass is always half empty for some isn't it?

Don't you think the goal posts might have moved slightly with the injuries to toure, cissokho and coates?

Personally I think BR will have done excellent necessary surgery to club in bringing in the two CB's. Sakho and Illori are both excellent additions, particularly Sakho who can play on the left aswell.

Perhaps without the injuries we could have gone for this divine marquee signing that everyone is turning Japanese over but needs must and we had to cover the injuries ASAP.
Getting Moses on loan maybe a smart move, do you not think BR has talked to Sturridge and asked him about his link up play with moses and the understanding they both have?
And Given is just a given really, excellent cover and experience to add for years to come in a coaching ro, who wouldn't want Given amongst the ranks.

Give credit where credit is due, BR has spent the cash wisely and improved the squad greatly in my opinion. Get behind him and the team and look at the positives for once.

Let's go tear the Moye's manc's a new one :D

Been rooting for the lad from the minute he arrived at Anfield, and now we are starting to see his dedication transform into solid performances.

Agree0 Disagree0

Feel bad being harsh on a player but spent the last England game with an Everton mate going over how baffled we are he plays for England and more-so united. Average player at best, what annoyed me more about that game (England vs Scotland) was everyone praising his assist when during the first half the ball was cut-back for him twice and even if they weren't easy chances he scuffed them entirely!
Henderson is miles better! More goals, more assist, better chance creation:minutes played, better work rate, better passing, better feet & touch, bigger, younger, faster, and stronger! Sorry for rating by really annoys me how the media and united fans going on about how good cleverly is and just saying hendo is "improving"! Though knowing my luck cleverly will score today

"We have

JESUS Fernández "Suso" Saez

All we need is IBRAHIM afellay."

Not that funny but raises and interesting point. With the need of a technically gifted LW, why haven't we thought of Afellay.

He is behind so many wingers and attackers at Barca now, one would think his name would have come up even if it was from those people who put 2+2 and get 5.

Now maybe I've just embarrassed myself and there is some well-known thing that I have missed. But can someone please enlighten me on what the situation is with Ibrahim Afellay?

{Ed002's Note - An easy one. Liverpool has no interest in Afellay. If the club suddenly becomes interested today, perhaps they could hire an air ambulance to rush him to Anfield?}

My own personal message to our players:

As supporters we all wish we were talented enough to play for our historic club, but let's face it, were not. You are the chosen ones, the heroes we adore, the players who are representing this wonderful club. The eyes of the world will be watching today. from Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. With modern day TV coverage now shown in every continent, this particular game will be the largest audience you have played against in your whole footballing life. Take strength from this, its what you have been dreaming about all your footballing life.

And make no mistake, to date, this is the most important game we've played under Brendan Rogers. He has assembled his team, his skillful warriors, and you need to show the world that his judgement and our trust in you, is justified. You have grown as a team and you have what it takes to win. Last season was a building phase, this season we need to win these games.

Enjoy every minute of the day boys, sweat real blood and fight for your lives, but most of all, show your skill to the world and enjoy the battle that is about to unfold. When you leave the pitch, leave everything on it and walk off with the biggest smile of your life.

Today will be a war against our biggest adversary, the enemy that is United, but the game will be won with cool heads and real skill. Play hard and good luck boys!

Can ed001 and the posters tell me a little bit about the playing days of Dalglish, Souness and Barnes as I never could see them play and want to know how good these players were in their prime.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Go on youtube you ll find loads!

Agree0 Disagree0

Awesome simply awesome. I was a kid growing up watching these guys in the 80's. Dalglish - Class above anyone. Souness - hard B~~tard but classy as well. Barnes, unstoppable when in full swing. Different times now but it wouldn't be too hard to imagine them adapting to todays football. They were that good!

Agree0 Disagree0

Those three, together with Rush and Stevie G are our five best ever players. Barnes was an utter joy to watch, even when he slowed down and worked the midfield. Souey ran the midfield, he could pass, tackle and score goals. KK was sublime; vision, goal scoring ability and goal maker. Get on Utube and watch the videos. They were also surrounded by excellent players, who were skilful, knew their jobs and always, always played for the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kenny had a great football brain and wonderful nous and vision in the final third. arguably the greatest to ever wear the red shirt. Souness was a tough nut no BS general with one of the fiercest shots i've seen. Barnesy fully fit!00% was as it was quoted "More Brazilian than the Brazilians"

Hi Eds, if Juan Mata submits a transfer request as is suggested by some media outlets, is it likely we will make a bid? I know arsenal are interested and can offer CL football however we could sign on the premise that should we fail to qualify this season he will be allowed to leave for an arranged fee. {Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Holding your breath can be dangerous.Take the Eds advice

Is anyone else worried about Agger's form at the moment? To me, he seems to have lost a yard of pace (not that he was the fastest before) and his positioning can be suspect at times.

He's ok when bringing out the ball from the back, but I would rather he made sure he locks the door first.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have said this before agger was sluggish last season and I was hoping for a improvement especially on the set pieces from agger. kolo did cover his a$$ couple of times for me agger is not what everybody makes of him as a defender.

Brendan Rodgers has just under 2 years left on his contract. So to come away from transfers and talk of spurs, I ask you all, including whichever ed is on duty. If BR contract ran out this evening, would you offer him a new deal?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Of course!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would definitely I think he's made some very astute signings and were playing some nice football I think he's done very well.i hope it continues today against Man Utd!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes yes yes. Rodgers has/is doing a fantastic job in my eyes the squad is 10x stronger that last year and his abillity on bringing the youth on aswell for me is second to none. Very happy with brendon. Could he be the new shankly!?! What do fella reds think!?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2013 09:51:10
considering how much change that needed to be done, players that were simply not good enough for top 4 to get rid of and those that were having to get used to brendans way of playing, I would like to see br getting that appraisal done at the end of this season. imo we haven't enough powerful players in midfield, we have two very good strikers in suarez and sturridge but if 1 gets another ban for letting himself down again and dan gets injured we are in trouble.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its a bit soon to be talking about whether he would get a new contract or not, as a lot of football is played in 2 years. But I personally would offer him a new contract. I think he has done well with us so far. We seem to be making slow, but steady progress, the football we are playing is taking us back to our roots. He has proven he can manage big egos with the Suarez affair and he can bring out the best in players.

Also we have had what? 4 managers in 4 years how. Changing again, isn't going to help anybody, we need stability to bring success and I think we can do that through BR.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes if we keep progressing as we are.

Agree0 Disagree0

With out doubt the easiest answer ever, I'd give him another 5 years at least. At last we back to playing the Liverpool way, pass and move, been too long coming, now it's back and he has made huge improvements in his first year alone. Just needs to work on his press conference skills or stop talking some times

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely

Does anyone think a new goalkeeper, this transfer window, is a Given?
I'd be happy with the three more mentioned- Sakho, Ilori and Moses. Moses has more experience and strength than Sterling and Ibe. And maybe Sakho and Toure could do a job as a defensive midfielder if really needed. (I don't know enough about Ilori in that respect).

I'm a bit surprised that we're favourites to win today. There's not much in it but I still expected United to be slight favourites. But we've nowt to fear and let's hope the bookies are right.

Morning Eds,
Im really crossing my fingers here, Do we have any serious interest in Yarmalenko? I really like the guy, I personally think he's a better investment than willian . Any info will be highly appreciated . Oh and did we really sign moses on loan? {Ed002's Note - Search engine and previous posts please.}

hi eds/reds is the sakho deal 100%done caue I see city saying they are now wanting a defender, and I would be worried they could easily hijack the deal if the wanted, also some fans on here dying to see the back of skrtel this guy was are player of the season 2 seasons ago, you just don't become a bad player overnight, all well he has made of a few mistakes of late, but if we do sign the other 2 defenders, who knows how well and how long if so they will adapt to the epl.so I think letting skrtel go would be a big mistake, especially if we don't need the money r rid of his wages. {Ed002's Note - Sakho was already offered to Manchester City as has been explained. They have a different target.}

I'm really happy with the Moses deal. I asked in a post during the early part of the window why we do not just go get him. I rate him quite well. Bias? Maybe, as I'm Nigerian, but truth be told, he is strong, direct, fast and willing to learn. He can also score a few goals. Himself and Fernabache's Emenike were instrumental in Nigeria's ACON win.
Ps: Here's hoping for another three points today.
Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post. I think he would do well with us. What is he like at corners? Does he score many? Does he get put on one of the danger men on defensive ones?

Hi Eds just reading the Guardian that we sign Victor Moses to season long loan {Ed002's Note - Not yet but it is likely.}

Fairly happy with the signings and opening games so far. Think we still have a few problems which need addressing. Firstly, we need to start killing games off. Could have won the previous games fairly easily based on first half performances, instead we let teams get back into the game. Against better opposition this could easily cost us.
The imminent defensive signings look good. Should improve the first team and the bench. Still think we are an short of a quality attacking wide player, to play across a front three with suarez and stirrings. This would add quality in the final third and also provide quality in depth as I think we are still quite thin up front.
Would also like to see another dm to provide cover and competition for lucas. Expecting a draw tomorrow but hoping for the win!

hi ed's thanks for all the hard work you guys are putting in in these last days of the window

Hi eds, do you think we'll get our "marquee" signing this window? Thanks :* {Ed002's Note - You mean Cavani?}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Poor Sahko.

France international.
Young.
Talented.
Vice captain at PSG.
Champions league quality.
Relatively high fee of 15-20m.
Big reputation across Europe.

Maybe if he was a 'flair' winger from Brazil people would appreciate him as a marquee signing.

I certainly do, and in a more desired position than LW.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know what you mean I think its because he's a defender that no one's arsed. I think he's a very, very good signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our guys can be really duds,

i when fisrt heard abt sakho I think it was just a rumour nothing much but . as it looks imminent, sakho and ilori

i thing we have the strongest defense in epl, if it works out.

for me that's already 10 points gained on last years points tally.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was he not psg captain when we looked at him a few seasons ago? Think he was 19 then

Wide Players:
Manchester United - Young, Valencia, Giggs, Nani, Zaha
Manchester City - Navas, Milner, Silva, Nasri
Chelsea - Hazard, Schurrle, Willian, De Bruyne, Mata, Moses
Arsenal - Walcott, Podolski, Ox,
Tottenham Hotspur - Bale?, Lamela, Chadli, Lennon, Townsend
Liverpool - Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe, Aspas

If Rodgers would prefer Coutinho to play a central role then that leaves us with 3 wide players. An 18 year old, a 17 year old and Aspas. Now as far as I am concerned Sterling and Ibe should be back-up for 2 first team experienced players. They should be eased into their careers not thrown into the deep end with heaps of pressure piled on them.

I feel that this is an area which needs strengthening immediately. Aspas looks to be a replacement for Downing therefore a left winger is needed. Moses looks certain to join, but I hope we sign a more established wide player as well.
Mata would be my choice. He wants to regain his place in the spain squad for the world cup and he would get plenty of game time at Liverpool to do so. We may not be able to offer CL football but how often will he feature in the CL for Chelsea?

Could we not use Skrtle in any deal for Yarmalenko? Say 15 million and Skrtle. Not sure if Kiev need any centre backs or if Skrtle would move there, but certainly something to explore before the window shuts.

In the centre back area we now have Sakho, Illori, Agger, Toure and Wisdom. Coates is out injured so I'd say Skrtle is likely to go before Monday. Whether Kiev is an attractive option to him I don't know, but maybe for the sake of playing and being in Europe may appeal to him.

If we could pull this off I'd be very happy with the summers dealings and the squad we have assembled.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Never going to happen. Agger is more likely to leave than Martin.

Lol 15m + skrtel for a guy who would cost £20m. that's like offering £27m for him.

Hi Eds/fellow rumourites,

I know you have said in the past that should we sign Ilori and Sakho then Skrtel will move on, do you still hold this view?

Is there enough interest for a deal to be concluded on Monday, are Napoli still interested?

In my opinion, if it makes financial sense to keep him it might be worth it. Ilori and Sakho are going to need a bit of time to settle, with Kolo injured and Dagger's injury past (i know this seems to have passed but is still a worry) it will be good to have someone to parachute in if we really need it and then let him go in January.

Cheers in advance {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

A quick question for ed002, with Liverpool having had an interest in Atsu, and him subsequently signing for Chelsea
I recall you having mentioned that a contact had remarked
That at best he was a Fulham standard of player!
Would you agree that Liverpool if they take Moses on loan
Will have signed the better of the 2 players?
Many thanks for a great site, I have not posted since
Last year when I got some stick for my support of
The owners and the manager
Boofs bro {Ed002's Note - Atsu has gone straight out on loan and Chelsea will look at him next summer in terms of making a decision. He is certainly at least two or three years behind Moses in terms of "readiness".}

happy with the sakho and llori signings don't get me wrong I think moses is a good player but he isn't a massive improvement on sterling and ibe i'm still holding onto the hope that we sign turan although it looks very doubtful now really don't understand why we haven't attempted to buy him at only 26 he has plenty of good years left he scores and creates goals almost every game is capable with both feet and skillful c'mon brendan get him signed

Hey Ed002.

I know that we'd been expecting 2 bids for LS but then Arsenal moved to other targets - but a bid from RM was still unlikely. With time running out, do you think that RM will bid, or have RM moved on?

More importantly ed, why the hell would anyone want a player to come into such a disciplined and organised role having signed the evening before, especially against a top side who are one of our greatest rivals?
What a bizarre notion, and judging by your response ed it seems that youv had to answer this numerous times.
This is not Fifa or Champ Man where a player just slots in immediately, Ilori and Sakho will both need atleast a week to train and adjust and get setlled with our systems of play before you even comtemplate putting them in. A striker could maybe be thrown straight in but not a CB.
Were really not that desperate guys, we will resort to a partnership that although didn't work last season has a good underdtanding of playing together and playing in our new system of passing.
