Hi

I'm really worried about the way which we just stock pile and throw money at forward players and take the approach 'if we throw enough mud at the wall some will stick'. I think if Brendan was as clever as he tries to make out he would realise that we need players who can both win playing pretty football but also if we need to fight and battle we would be able to do that too. I think brendan is very naive and I for one don't want to be a club that just sacks managers willy nilly but I'm finding it hard to defend what is going on. We need leaders and players that show there metal when needed. We need a winning mentality back at this club. I just worry this isn't the direction we are heading to. Thanks for your work eds

Apparently we are where we should be! 5th!

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2015 11:09:02
As Macca said we have the 5th highest wage bill in the league, so 9 out of 10 times we will finish 5th or there abouts. With no CL football next season the only thing that will attract players is going to be big wages competitive with the top four. So we need to sell the dead wood, including Sterling who plainly has no interest in being a Liverpool player any more, and Ballotelli etc, and when they as well as the big wage earners who are out of contract in Gerrard and Johnson are off the books then the wage bill should have more room for maneuver. In comparative terms if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I think you will find that the league is decided on points won as a result of the games that are played - and not the wage bill. "Dead wood" is an offensive term that no decent supporter would use about players at their own club - but hey, it is the New Liverpool way. Idiot.}

01 May 2015 19:59:18
Will Liverpool's interest in signing Depay depend on Sterling leaving this summer?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

01 May 2015 20:37:09
I asked this earlier mate, ed002 reply was that we seem to be looking at alternatives to Sterling and not just in Depay. So a bit inconclusive really mate as I was thinking same thing as you.

IMO They are not dependent on each other but I'm not sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2015 20:58:02
It will mainly depend on Depay's interest to join us, which will mainly depend on ManU' interest in him. If United wants him, I honestly cannot see any reason whatsoever for him to come to us. They can pay PSV what we can plus 5M , they can pay him what we can pay him, they offer him CL football and based on the past 10 years much more trophies including titles. They also have a better Manager, whho happen to be Dutch, as well as some of the players. The only thing is he will have slightly more competition there, but if he is as good I am sure he believes he is, he will not be scared by that.

If United don't want him and he will come to us we will find the money to bring him. Same story with Benteke. If both of them mirculasly want to come to us and not to United (cannot see this happening) we may have to sell Sterling to fund this. But the big 'if' is if both of them will not have better options. As I said earlier today, I just hope we don't sell Sterling first and then find out they are not coming.

Agree5 Disagree0

01 May 2015 21:06:05
Be a good deal in terms of money . I'm sure you get a inflated fat check for Lennon mark2 . And depay would cost 20million and sure we would pay the wage we've offered Lennon mark2 . Depay has great shooting technique n accuracy . He can pass cross dribble . So it's an upgrade .

Agree5 Disagree2

01 May 2015 20:30:23

We can also offer depay game time, especially if Sterling leaves. United won't player him over the godlike Di maria surely. Sarcasm in case you're wondering.

{Ed007's Note - Utd are trying to swap Di Maria + £20 million for James McCarthy.}

Ed02, what is your opinion with regards to Reina? Do you think he was released too early? I think he would have been good competition for Mignolet for at least a few more seasons. Was it a case he didn't want to be challenged for the No 1 spot or did he do something wrong to upset Rogers Lol. I have always had an uncomfortable feeling about the way he left. He was a strong personality and was in my eyes committed to Liverpool. What happened? Do you have any knowledge as to why he was blackballed? Many Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No, it was time to go.}

So what do we do next, discuss the reasons why every player who has ever left Liverpool did so.Reina made his bed when he courted a move to Spain, but none of the big clubs wanted him

01 May 2015 20:39:08
Did he take Wonderdog Sparky with him tho ???!!!!!

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 21:01:11
May be corrected by the Eds on this, but I think Reina had more or less told the club he was leaving to join Barcelona, but then Valdez signed up for another year, so Barca had no need for Reina. But by that point he and the management had burned their bridges. We may have also completed or nearly completed a deal for Migs by this stage.

Agree5 Disagree0

01 May 2015 18:01:56
Lambert, Balotelli and Borini scored 46 goals between them last season. So aren't we scoring goals?

Rodgers isn't setting up the team to play to the current strikeforce's strenghts, in addition to playing more than half the first team behind them out of their natural positions. It's that simple. Analyze the season from a managerial POW and Rodgers has been an absolute disaster.

Believable13 Unbelievable1

01 May 2015 18:27:50
I don't necessarily disagree with the premise, but they had 34 league goals between them and 9 of those were from penalties and 6 from free kicks. Balotelli had 7 from open play last year in league play, Lambert 8, and Borini 4, so it's not like any of them were scoring open play goals at near the rate of Sturridge or Suarez last season.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 May 2015 18:47:51
Great post mate and think the answer is obvious, they played in systems that suited them (and in fairness took pens).

Was initially wxcited with players signed this summer but they don't fit together. Have a lot of players j don't think we need who are actually really good players, just have no clue where they're meant to play or what their role is.

Hate to say it but look at chelsea, can look at their team sheet and know exactly what is expected if each player and their role, look at ours and are wondering why a talented young CM is a CB, a great box to box player is at right back, a great pacey number 10 is at LWB, an legend AM is playing DM, and a great back up striker is starting 10 games is trying to break on the counter despite being into his 30s!

Agree5 Disagree0

01 May 2015 19:10:15
RDL, all of them look infinitely better within their teams last season. I think its pretty obvious that Rodgers has been unable to play to their strengths, what we don't know is how that would've changed the rest of the team.

I can imagine setting the team up to play to Balotellis static style of play might have made the season as woeful as it has already been but who knows.

Agree3 Disagree0

01 May 2015 19:44:42
Don't disagree lmred, but in general I think relying on the likes of Balotelli, Lambert, or Borini to score loads from open play (which is what we need) was/is a mistake as none of them have proven especially prolific in recent history.

Again, I do think they all looked better previously though.

Agree4 Disagree0

01 May 2015 20:06:17
I know Balotelli has not been lighting the world ablaze, but how many crosses has he received the last 2 games that were worthy of a goal? 1 maybe? Many of us think he'd be better with a 2nd striker, and many are wanting to sell him. If a new manager comes, I think it would be worth a shout to see if Balotelli, among other players on the fringes, have a future. We should be patient with our sales if we are to can Rodgers, including Mario.

I hope Borini and Lambert are moved, because I don't think they are good enough. I do think Balotelli can come good; we wouldn't, or at least many of us wouldn't, give up on another player after one year.

Agree2 Disagree5

01 May 2015 20:13:12
Imred, RDL, Balotelli was a poison chalice we should have never drank from. As Macca said its been a thorn in our side since day one. I truly believe whoever was responsible for his signing is sick in the head, and MUST BE REMOVED. I don't know who pulled what strings, and I don't think Rogers pulled most of them, but its a sickness within our Club that needs to be cut out like a fucking tumour, or we are going to die a slow painful death. Honestly there is a stench of rottenness pervading our club, and it needs sorting with immediate effect.

Agree1 Disagree3

01 May 2015 20:20:00
Good Grief Tj I can't believe you just said that!!!!!!!
Mario. be patient !!!! I flippin give up I really do.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 21:47:31
Balotelli is not the reason this season has sucked. Many of you would like to believe so, but overall the team just hasn't been good enough. The team, including balotelli.

Agree5 Disagree0

01 May 2015 22:02:00
We don't play two strikers, just a false number nine.

Dead simple reason why we don't score goals BUT

When a class striker like Sturridge is on form and fit (which he hasn't been), he usually takes the half opportunities gifted to him and we get away with it.

Regardless of this opinion being with the benefit of hindsight, a fully fit Sturridge this season would have won us many games with the opportunities presented, any other striker in the squad is simply not good enough or skilled enough to play as a lone striker, therefore aside from Sturridge the rest should be played as a pair, and in my opinion (regardless of my opinion on the Italian), they would present themselves as a handful and would score.

Agree3 Disagree1

01 May 2015 22:56:58
If Mario even chipped in with half a dozen league goals things could certainly been a lot better. A complete and utter disaster. Whoever suggested him as a possibility needs to be collecting their p45

Agree3 Disagree4

01 May 2015 23:43:17
Golden boy sturridge wasnt really lighting the world alight prior to his last injury. Sure he's scored a couple goals but he's familiar with the players and how BR "works." Even he has struggled. I'm just tired of signing on here and seein balotelli bashing when he has been putting in a shift. The main complaint on being purchased was his work rate. He has worked pretty hard every time I've seen him on the pitch. Every player has declined in form this season in our starting lineup, bar mignolet Lucas and henderson. I suppose that's marios fault too.

Agree1 Disagree4

02 May 2015 00:35:31
borini and lambert have not been played enough at LFC to give fair judjement IMO

Im sure if borini had the same playing time as balotelli this season we would have a few more goals

Agree2 Disagree0

02 May 2015 00:48:15
Bali would obviously be more effective as two upfront but we've never played him like that, Lambert best in a 4-2-3-1 to allow others to play off him, but we only played him like that for a short spell, Borini never given a chance. I personally think all the strikers has as much reason to be upset with Rogers as he has with them.

I suspect at the start of the season BR was building for a 4-2-3-1 with all the midfielders he bought but why did he need to change things entirely after last year? I reckon with studge out, we would have done better sticking with the diamond, playing Lucas, Hendo and Coutinho midfield with Balo/Borini upfront and Sterling in just behind them.

Agree3 Disagree0

02 May 2015 13:35:16
My main complaint was he didn't fit with the system or the ethos of the team. Complete waste of £16m. Mourinho couldn't manage him, Mancini couldn't manage him, AC Milan wanted shut of him. What possessed the committee to think it would be a good signing?
Daft as a brush!

Eds with Flanno injury along with Johnson & Enrique likely to leave and the likely hood of Manquillo going back to Spain. This really leaves us with just Moreno as full back. Would you expect the club to sign players to cover these areas?

01 May 2015 17:07:12
Eds if Rodgers doesn't play Kent & Yesil tomorrow even though nobody at the club can score a goal will that indicate further that he isn't the man? Honestly, Borini runs round a lot but does nothing, Mario is basically Mario and Ricky can't run! This leaves Coutinho in no mans land as he has to do everything on his own considering Sterling is now holding on to the ball for far too long trying to impress scouts meaning no outlet and no threat at all! Am still awaiting Sparky to make a comment about El Noseo? Thanks!

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - Sparky is getting his nose polished this afternoon.}

Agree1 Disagree1

01 May 2015 17:28:21
I can't see Yesil being in the squad for QPR as he is only just coming back from a long injury and was not risked for the whole under 21 match against Everton last night, but it would not surprise me if Kent was on the bench tomorrow, he looks an exciting prospect.

Thank got you're not in charge neither will make the matchday squad and when they don't it won't be a reason to add to the long list of reasons he should be sacked. I wonder how much the value of borini and balotelli would drop if we were to do that. Shop window time for them and the other dross

Danny Ings for me is a player who is playing at his level at the moment he won't get any better than he already is also he is prone to injuries, why don't we go for some striker who is not injured all the time then we would get a full season out of them and they will have some very good games and score us the goals we need, it does not matter how good sturridge is he can't score from the treatment table, i do feel bad for him and us because like all fans i was looking forward to watching him this season and him doing his celebration dance and with all that we would have won more games and finished in the top 4 maybe or at least we would have had a better chance of getting in the top 4, if only BR would have bought more wisely and got a decent back up to sturridge, we all know he is injury prone he has suffered most of his time as a player with injuries, for me Ballo was not the answer instead of getting a hard working player who would have come in and scored more goals than all our other strikers but no we got Ballo who was never going to get us 10 to 15 goals a season, but no matter who we got in they would have had to be played but BR instead started to change players positions and because of this our performance suffer, now i don't know who bought ball but because he is a striker he should have played more games as should of lambert and borini, because he never played them our goal difference suffered let's hope if he is with us next season he does the right thing and play our players in their proper positions as that's all we will have is hope

There's a reason many clubs are interested in Ings. Just because he isn't worth 30 million doesn't mean he isn't a quality talent.

Agree1 Disagree4

01 May 2015 19:33:09
TjRed, Ings is out of contract in the summer hence so many clubs are interested. i'm pretty sure most of the interested clubs see him as a cheap squad player signing rather than an established first team player. He is a decent forward but not someone who is going to fire LFC into the top4.

Agree5 Disagree0

01 May 2015 23:46:20
He still costs money, in wages and signing on fees. Clubs don't sign players just so they have another one

Agree2 Disagree2

02 May 2015 02:41:16
I have no doubt Ings is talented and will improve. The issue is our squad is now full of them. We need a proven ready made goal scorer, not another potential buy that will sit on the bench for most of the season. We already have origi coming in that fits that bill and we don't need to waste money on another.

I have been going across other forums and reading fan insights, so as an arsenal fan i'd just like to say my two pence worth.

the players at liverpool, do not represent liverpool value, or the heritage of the club. however to say all of them are not worthy is also not true.

At arsenal we have had phases where we wanted certain players gone, as they did not integrate or perform, however some players take time and as the saying goes the people in charge know best.

ramsey and coq are examples of how those that seem out of contention seem to suddenly show their worth.

so for the players i rate and who i reckon will come good with game time and the right coaching.

Alberto Moreno, Sakho, lovren, ibe, henderson, markovic, mignolet, sterling, Emre Can, Coutinho, lallan, sturridge (if he can stop being the injured van persie)so to complete the first team, if the likes of Benteke and a RB were to be added this summer i reckon a top 4 challenge is possible. with time and growth of the same players over a given period with the right system can take you guys to where we have developed over time, after out bigger players left us for pastures new.

for what its worth i rate brendon as a tactician, however he seems to put himself under pressure to make drastic changes rather than see a game plan, such as subs during half time. but i do not rate his press comments, makes the club look stupid with his comments, especially on transfers and possible targets.

Klopp, benteke, dephay, Milner, young keeper and persuade Lucas to stay. Sell/release sterling, borini, lambert, balotelli, Enrique, Allen, Gerrard, Johnson, manquillo, skrtel, jones and then give chances to many of the promising players in the academy. I think this is achievable and would lower the wage bill and represent a good summers business?

A bit of the recent subject of Brendan Bashing, but I read yesterday (a very small article hidden away) about the changes to in Spanish football in regards to the TV money and how it is shared. I can't believe this hasn't made bigger news. I'm not certain on the specifics, but this has the capacity to completely change the Spanish league, for the better in my opinion, and bring it more in line with the PL. Personally I think it will open doors for the likes of Valencia, Seville etc to try and bridge the gap. Any info on it Ed's e.g when it will come into effect etc? Cheers

01 May 2015 12:26:08
I was thinking last night and there is only one scenario in which I'm content for Rodgers to stay at the club.

Biesla as Director of Football and a new defensive and goalkeeping coach.

My reasoning for this is that in Rodgers entire tenure, we've had 3 good months of football. Those 3 months were pretty much as a result of Rodgers taking advice from Biesla on how to play.

It's therefore pretty obvious that Rodgers respects Biesla enough to listen to him. So it's not beyond the realms of possibility that he would be willing to work with him. Of course we also need a dedicated defensive coach with some pedigree in the game (so not just a sentimental experiment such as Hyypia or Carragher). John Achterberg being replaced surely goes without saying?

IF we could end up in this sort of scenario where Biesla defines the style of play, picks the transfers (thus dissolving this committee nonsense) and helps Rodgers out with his management issues then I would be content to give Rodgers another season.

It's a complete wildcard to assume a) Biesla would accept a DoF role b) Rodgers would agree to a DoF which would reduce his role to head coach c) Rodgers would agree to a defensive coach. However I'm just playing devils advocate for the Brendan sympathisers and explaining what it would take for me to even consider giving Rodgers another season.

What are your thoughts on this scenario Ed001?

Personally I'd just do whatever it takes to get Klopp in but i accept that may not be realistic.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - What makes you think that someone who doesn't speak English and has zero experience as a Director of Football will help? It also looks like you have a very strange view of what a Director of Football is responsible for.}

01 May 2015 12:41:19
Am i right in thinking Rodgers is fluent in Spanish though Ed002? So communication wouldn't be impossible.

I am well aware of Beisla's lack of experiene in the role, but i think he is one of few people Rodgers would consider working under; hence why i put him forward as a suggestion.

Admittedly I don't know all the ins and outs of a director of football, but those are just a handful of responsibilities that i want taken away from Rodgers. If they aren't possible even with a DoF, then Rodgers simply has to go.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Rodgers does speak Spanish but you are well in to the realms of fantasy now. None of this would be good for the club at all.}

Happy Friday eds and fellow reds,

Haven't posted in a while but I have been checking the site hourly hoping for a ray of sunshine breaking through the black cloud currently sitting over LFC.

First and foremost I think the managerial situation needs dealing with as soon as the final whistle is blown on the last game on the season, but the playing staff is obviously a grave concern too!

With all the names I see us linked with daily, I do not see any real defensive midfielders linked, I know it's all hearsay and paper talk, but surely certain people would get wind of any interest in DM's too.

In my opinion this, along with a 20 goal a season striker and Mr Klopp MUST be a top priority. Having said this, I cannot think of any one player that is realistically attainable that would sufficiently improve us. Would like to here other posters' opinions on this and who they'd like to see brought in, as I really do think it's a position we need to address as soon as we can! I am a fan of Lucas, but he has his injury issues and could well be on his way, which would leave us with Emre Can, who'd still be playing out of position there, and Joe Allen(I like his workrate and effort but he's just not up to te standard required, hoping he moves on). Or, are Rossiter/Williams ready to make the step up on play on a regular basis, I would love for that to be the case but feel we need an established player in that role to help them blossom into the top players they have the potential to be.

I look forward to reading some responses and here's hoping for 3 points tomorrow and a performance to go with it, to lift some of the gloom!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club persuaded Lucas to stay in January so I doubt he will be going anywhere in the summer.}

01 May 2015 12:12:37
That is excellent news Ed! I thought he still had his mind set on Inter Milan.

If he stays, we don't even need a new holding player. Lucas, Can, Williams etc is more than enough.

Agree7 Disagree1

01 May 2015 13:32:01
Great news! Lucas has a good few years in him at the top level, as long as he stays fit! With everything he has been through since arriving, his mental strength and experience along with actually being a very good player will only help nurture the talent of Can, Rossiter, Williams and other young players coming through!

Now let's hope Klopp is at the helm next season and we manage to bring in a proven goalscorer whilst shipping out those that are surplus to requirements. Anything on top of that, for me, is a massive bonus.

Agree0 Disagree0

Things change in football though, and I have a sneaky suspicion that Lucas still has his heart set on a move, just for the sake of a change. Plus, if Rogers is still in charge I would think brining in Milner is to replace an outgoing Lucas, because he's too injury prone. I'm not sure Rogers really rates injury prone players bar sturridge, who is beyond injury prone. I would love to keep Lucas, would save us so many headaches and he is our most important midfielder, but he is annoyingly injury prone. Having said that I would rather Milner or Lucas as back up to eatchother as oppose to Allen. Allen plays well against lesser teams that do not press. If you play a high pressure game then Allen becomes absolutely useless. Decent squad player though.

01 May 2015 16:41:53
I love Lucas to bits, genuinely top lad and actual captain material, but i'm genuinely concerned that he has such bad injury problems that I would sell Allen and bring in a top notch centre midfielder so that we had a decent selection, as this season we have been appalling if Lucas hasn't been available, given that Rodgers doesn't understand that Can is a CM

Apologies for my naivety but would it or does it make a difference on our transfer targets if they decided to get rid of Todgers. I'm aware that a new gaffer would want to acquire some players but are the two things mutually exclusive or separate issues?

Obviously Rodgers has finial say but what if your options are all rubbish? Just a thought.
--------------------------------------------------------

Yet another reason why Rodgers should not be allowed to continue to waste more money.

Like Ed002 said, why buy players when you know they are just going to use up wages?

FSG said from the very start when they appointed Rodgers that the academy was there to be used and that when they make purchases it will not be a short term fix.

Rodgers has gone against all of these principles by agreeing to players like Balotelli, Lallana and Lovren after signing the likes of Alberto, Aspas and Ilori the previous season!

What have Balotelli, Lallana and Lovren done for LFC who have cost the club £40m more and increased the wage bill significantly too compared to the three signings of Aspas, Alberto and Ilori?

But Rodgers should be given another season to waste more of LFC's money?

It will be criminal if FSG allow this to happen!

Believable8 Unbelievable4

01 May 2015 10:59:31
I actually said underneath my other comment that transfer committee and Rodgers are clueless so the blame has to be left with fsg.

If I employed someone to go into one of my clients houses and they tried their best best but the job was done to a awful standard then it's not their fault it's mine for employing a idiot.

Rodgers isn't trying to buy rubbish or play rubbish football. But he can only do what he is capable of doing. The committee aren't trying to waste money they are trying their best.

I'm sorry but fsg have made a lot of mistakes when it comes to hiring, they need some serious help in my opinion ie a dof.

Agree4 Disagree2

01 May 2015 11:40:13
If that worker you employed said he would do a proper job to a professional standard then it's his fault for not delivering what he said he could do, and partly yours for believing him.

we all know Rodgers has been poor and will be gone. the transfer commitee will likely be gone with Rodgers as it was only really set up because Rodgers was useless in the transfer side of things.
Several players will be leaving, some because they are poor, some because they are simply not needed. All these problems Are mostly Rodgers fault but a portion of the blame has to go to the owners for giving him the job in the first place, they will be moving to correct that error (and others) in the summer though.

Agree3 Disagree1

01 May 2015 11:20:18
No, no, no. How can you blame FSG at this point when the plan they put out to Rodgers has not been followed?

We could have signed Remy instead of Balotelli who would have cost less. We did not have to sign Lovren when we already had Sakho. Etc etc.

Why sign Lallana when we had Ibe? Spend £20m on Markovic and let Suso go for a million? Etc etc etc.

Yet Rodgers was like a child in a candy shop with money falling out of his pockets.

FSG last season most probably would have been impressed with the title charge. Would they have made +-£120m available if there were no promises from Rodgers about a return on investment?

FSG do not sign the players and they do not ask Rodgers to play forwards at RB or RWB or have buy loads of strikers and do not make use of them.

If FSG do not get rid of Rodgers by the end of the season then by all means put the blame on them for allowing Rodgers to do further damage.

I think this summer provides us with a good opportunity to see if we have learned anything from last year. Everyone do mistakes in life, but to repeat the same mistake again and again is stupidity.

As more and more rumurs suggest we may sell Sterling in the summer and to a PL rival of course (unlike the other big 4 when they sell a top player it is always abroad?) to fund some big signings, may I suggest we complete the big signings first and only then sell him?

If we repeat the Suarez-Sanchez saga and, say, sell Sterling to City in order to fund a Dephay and Benetke deal, only to then find out they both prefer to go to United (and if United want both of them I cannot see a reason they will prefer us, to be honest), then we are basically stating loud and clear that we are here to be the feeder fo the big teams.

Don't get me wrong, if we sign Dephay and Benteke I personally will be happy with it even if this mean Sterling is going, but I will have to see it to believe it.

sell sterling borini balotelli lambert allen enrique skrtel and few a players out on loan likes of alberto aspas. raise some money through these sales and get a midfielder(parejo) and a striker ( i think even rhodes would do 20+ goals all last three seasons) and a goalkeeper . play players in position. it is pretty simple. but LFC seem to screw it up every time

I agree fano, speed in the market is key. If we stuff about we'll miss all our targets. Unfortunately the reality is most of the funds will have to come from sales. It is quite laughable that there are those who still believe Rodgers should have another season.

Last season Rodgers had an idea whereby he had Gerrard playing as the deepest midfielder knocking balls up to Sturridge and Suarez which lead to us scoring the most goals in League season and putting in a title challenge. Direct, fast paced football was the order of the day but Rodgers lack of defensive know-how has been another downfall every season he has been at the club.

Fast forward and now a season later and three seasons at LFC, Rodgers still has no idea of what playing style he wants for Liverpool Football Club. Surely that is a massive problem?

"Death by Football" was the idea that Rodgers sold to FSG which got him the job. This is a philosophy which has failed Rodgers each and every season since joining LFC.

“When you’ve got the ball 65, 70 percent of the time it’s a football death for the other team. We’re not at that stage yet, but that’s what we’ll get to, it’s death by football”.

Combine the above quote with patient, slow build up football and it immediately is a recipe for disaster in a fast paced, physical English Premier League.

Last season and the return of Luis Suarez after his ban saw Rodgers immediately changing to a direct, counter attacking style of play. It resulted in the club scoring 101 EPL goals and it was exciting to watch but it was never going to be sustainable especially with an defensively inept minded Manager i.e. Brendan Rodgers.

This season we have not had Suarez and Sturridge has been injured majority of the season but there is no way Rodgers would have been able to get as many goals this season without the ability of a player like Suarez who was the most important cog in the direct style of play last season.

Rodgers recent comments of “You can’t hide the fact we’ve lost over 50 goals,” is utterly laughable. as the way he has set up his team this season was never going to score as many goals as we did last season, not even with Suarez in the side.

So what did he do?

Rodgers knew last season already that Suarez would be leaving so what gives him the right to complain that we lost 50 goals when he had +-£120m to spend, finished 2nd in the league and had CL football to offer?

Instead, Rodgers went and spent money on players from Southampton which were never needed. Brought in Balotelli who was never going to fill in for Suarez in any shape or form.

In return, Southampton took that money they got from us and invested it in players who have helped them to 57 points so far this season which is only 1 point less than what we have. This is after LFC spending double what Southampton have.

Back to the comical comments 'loss of 50 goals" from Rodgers. Raheem Sterling is not a striker, yet Rodgers has relied on him to get the goals this season? Meanwhile there are 6 other strikers Rodgers has signed since joining the club i.e. Yesil, Aspas, Balotelli, Borini, Lambert & Sturridge.

Yesil is still young and has had many injury issues, Aspas is on loan but what gives Rodgers the right to complain when he is not making use of Balotelli, Borini and Lambert irrespective of whether they are good enough or not. He signed them and wasted money by doing so. He has no right to complain and then give the fans a reason to rip apart Raheem Sterling who is now expected to produce the goods up top when he is not even a dedicated striker?

"Loss of 50 goals" and some want to still fall for his excuses when he says 'Marquee" players are needed next season and FSG will support that.

Where where the "marquee" players last summer Mr. Brendan Rodgers when we finished 2nd last season, had CL to offer and +-£120m to spend plus the owners are supportive of it?

Mr. Brendan Rodgers, how on earth are you going to sign "marquee" players with less money, no CL football and the fact that you failed miserably in your three season spending more than £200m of Liverpoll Fotball Clubs money and wasted it. Plus the fact that you are the first manager in our history which has failed to win a single trophy in three seasons!

Brendan Rodgers needs to go and hopefully FSG have learned from there mistakes by appointing him as if they do not get rid of him now then the damage could very well end up irreparable.

Believable21 Unbelievable4

01 May 2015 09:37:14

{Ed001's Note - I do not like him at all, his passing is not that good, he is just extremely over physical and is at his level. He has a tendency to lose his head, and will often wander out of position trying to do too much. The moment he is not playing for a little club among the big boys, his tendency to commit nasty vile fouls will be picked up on and he will struggle to stay on the pitch for 90minutes in a single match. If it was way back in the 70s and 80s, his fouls would be considered normal practice, but football has changed and he would be a liability at a team that isn't seen by officials as having to compensate for lack of ability by being physical.}

5th is a bad season no matter what it brings, facts are BR is clueless, FSG as responsible owners must act now and rid the club of this incumbent.
The classic for me was paying 25 plus million for Markovich to then make excuses about being young, bedding in one for the future etc etc.
Id love him to go on and be the next Messi Ronaldo, but when you pay that sort of monies you want a world class player from day one.
Then he makes Lambert who was a half decent striker at Soton a bench warmer, a half decent defender in lovren a liability, A so called great prospect in, a german U21 midfielder Emre Can a total wreck playing out of position week after week, the list of his abject failures go on and on and on i'm afraid.

Anyway, surely young players should be slowly integrated in to a confident team that's winning?

Surely it's a collective opinion on when the players are ready at a younger age, and not just the manager, surely?

Agree1 Disagree0

01 May 2015 01:04:29
How would you sum up this season in one word?? For me I would call it; Underwhelming.

Where has it all gone wrong??

I don't think blame falls solely at Brendan's feet but, having said that, I believe it is time for him to move on.

He has clearly lost the players. The lack of passion or dedication to their role in the team, by the players, has been noticeable. They are not playing like footballers who want to lift the pressure off their managers shoulders.

No, instead they look lethargic and unwilling to put any effort into matches, especially in their movement off the ball. They have all been static, baring Coutinho who is at least trying to create something out of nothing.

Blame should be placed at the players feet as well. Now, don't get me wrong. I know that Brendan has been playing a number of players out of their positions (Which is stupid in my opinion.) but you would at least expect a little effort on their part.

This season has been a huge let down. The transfer committee have dropped the ball in a massive way and should be dissolved. Brendan has wasted hundreds of millions in three years, more than any other Liverpool manager and shown nothing for it. what's more, Brendan has signed Swansea level players, in my personal opinion, and doesn't have the ability to convince big players to join are club.

So many signings have been brought in and very few have proven themselves. In fact, the overall team this year have been poor.

I think a change is needed to inject some new life into the club and its players. Klopp, in my opinion, is a complete pipe dream, never going to happen. He will want assurances over Champions League football, which we are in no position to given, and will want to build a team that he desires. That will take money, something FSG will be reluctant to do considering how much has been wasted.

So who is left??

Frank De Boer??

Has hardly set the Dutch league alight this year has he. Ajax have finished the season 14 points away from the eventual winners PSV. Obviously FDB has won the dutch league on four consecutive occasions but is he really ready for the jump to the premier league??

After FDB who is left??

Rafa Benitez??

No, I don't see that ending well if Liverpool were to bring in Benitez. We've been there and done that in my opinion. We need something new, not to rehash old history. But, seriously, why do people want Benitez back?? To relieve old memories of when we were a force in the Champions League?? Are you all forgetting how badly we wanted him out?? There was a reason for that.

After those two, who else is there??

I don't see a thriving market of experienced and exceptional managers clamoring to be appointed as Liverpool manager. FSG will most likely find that either Brendan stays (with a DOF in charge of affairs etc) or they boot Rodgers and employ a temporary manager; possibly Benitez to appease the fans. Either way, not good.

As a Liverpool fan I am very worried. Players are wanting out or not showing any passion. Fans are becoming unsettled, such as myself, and I honestly can't see a quick, solid solution to this problem.

Fingers crossed FSG figure out a sustainable solution to all this. Although I don't many have faith in FSG now, which boggles my mind as they have been very supportive. Perhaps a little naive to allow Brendan and the committee play around with the clubs money but I don't believe they have done anything wrong.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

01 May 2015 07:59:33
No reason why De Boer couldn't make the change; look at Koeman!! The quality of the Dutch league is lower than the prem but it's a competitive league with 3 or 4 sides realistic title challengers

Agree1 Disagree0

01 May 2015 08:21:55
Give Klopp a great package, a transfer budget and a clear message of ambition to get to CL status next year and why wouldn't he join? That's what ManU gave LVG yet somehow we believe Klopp and top players won't buy into ambition if we don't have CL next year?

I'd guess if he's confident enough in how much we're prepared to give him in budget and quality of his team for next year, I'm sure he wouldn't mind one year out of CL if he felt he could get us back in and be part of a long term project at Liverpool. goodness knows how he'd be idolised by the kop if he succeeded!

I think that's why we probably need to sell Sterling. great asset but not critical for Liverpool and we need the money to fix problems elsewhere.

Eds, am I right that our owners had him as their main target before Rodgers was hired?

Compared to LVG and Arsene around 7mln and Mourinho around 8.5mln, we can easily offer Klopp at big uplift in wages to tempt him and the difference is almost nothing compared to the transfer fees of bringing in even mediocre players (rumours we're willing to pay 18mln for Cheryshev - who the heck is he anyway?)

I'd rather sell Sterling for 40mln, buy Depay, Ings, Milner for less than 30mln (given 2 of these on a "free"), then use the extra money on Klopp than stick with Rogers and sign a whole bunch of expensive players that will then be played out of position.
