If Andy Carroll scores an equaliser in the last minute of the season to win Liverpool the title, will the £20m hit we took on him have been worth it?
For me it would.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Never mind Carroll ken, what price your under crackers for services to the cause if we win? I'm not bidding just saying lol!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd have to agree ken, even more so if downing crossed it ha ha

Agree0 Disagree0

It's well worth £20m of someone else's money yeah haha
Car rolls best game for us was against city. Let's hope he murders them again.

Yes it would for sure

Anyone else think it coincidence that our meteoric rise in confidence levels as a whole could be down to the agree dust signing BR gas made since he's been our gaffer? Of course I'm talking about Dr Steve Peters our club psychologist? I don't believe in coincidences myself, no one should under estimate the power of PMA aswell as ways of dealing with knock backs defeats for example, as long as we have him aswell as the other coaches at our club we appear to bein some safe hands. There's reasons to be cheerful boys, league win or not here's a list of a few massive positives to dwell on:
New developed stadium edging closer;
An academy of talented, excellently coached youth academy that is the envy of many a club on these shores and foreign;
An excellent manager who is approximately half way through a plan for our great club, an I'm no psychic but to me we look well ahead of schedule for this;
Our club is slowly improving financially, we all kno we have debts but surely to god with the onfield inprovements it stands to reason the off field side of things is on the up to?;
FSG have never come across as daft business men and or scared to make commercial avenues open and as much stick as Ayre gets and rightly so at times, possibly as no one really knows the facts, remember them ha, he is a shrewd dealer when it comes to incoming revenue;
We have probably one of the youngest average aged teams in the league
We are no longer that "one man club" teams fans used to love to slang at us, no part is greater than the sum of it's whole parts in our side, it's obviously helps that we have world class talent on our books to
How many clubs would love Suarez in their team? Sturridge? Sterling? Henderson? Gerrard?
Plenty if reasons to stay positive fellas whether we win the league or not, the only way we appear to bd going is up! YNWA
Sorry for the rambling lads, been threatening a proper post for a while now ha, thoughts if any lads? Anything I've glaringly missed?

I agree, I said the same thing some months ago when chatting to Ed2. Better late than never though ;-)

I know some may not agree with me, but I think we have a lot to learn from Atletico Madrid if we are to be successful next year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can also argue that Atletico could learn a thing or two from us.

It is also worth noting that Atletico are a year ahead of LFC with their Manager in a slightly less competitive league in terms of overall strength.

But, what they have done is nothing sort of phenomenal IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

And they sold their best player

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 22:19:31
Not only did they sell their best player, they replaced with with a younger striker already at th club.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Atletico are the most balanced team currently, it would take special individual performances from Real to beat them. Costa…I feel your pain Brazil.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not trying to play Devil's advocate, but people sai the same about Dortmund last year. Yes, they are still good team, but nowhere near last year's level. Consistency over several seasons would mean more.

Also, while Atletico are the 'second' team in madrid, I think they still offer big wages and their squad isn't solely homegrown. They are certainly punching above their weight, but they have always been able to attract top talent (and earn a ton of cash when they sell).

I don't think we need to model ourselves around orher clubs. We are setting our own example

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The wages they pay are far less than the likes of Liverpool.}

The PL team pay more wages don't they?

QPR have spend more money this year in wages than Atletico; I heard somewhere.

Hi Eds

Do you think it will be a very busy summer this year?, I expect with CL football next season we would have to invest a fair bit but do you think it would likely to be 2-3 big signings, by big signings I mean proven CL or top end quality Premier League players & then promote a load of the youngster to bolster the squad or do you think it maybe 1-2 big players & maybe a few more squad players. Personally I'd let Agger, Johnston & Coates go & try to bring in Richards & Lescott in from City, Sagna from Arsenal & possibly Cole from Chelsea if it wasn't silly money, with the returning Enrique, Wisdom & fully fit Kelly the defence would have vast experience & promise. I'd love us to try & keep Reina, I feel with him in goal this season the defence would have been more confident & the league may have been won by now, but I if the issues can't be resolved I'd sell him & Jones & bring in either Ruddy or Vorm to give Mignolott serious competition. Midfield I'd let Allen go & try & bring in Lallana & Diame in & Menez if his signing on fee isn't too high, I'd love to see Ibe & Suso to come back into the squad to add an extra bit of width with Sterling. Forward like I expect Aspas will go & I'd like to see Borini come back, his work rate is great & I think the loan move has done him the world of good .
Again this is just an opinion of players we've been linked with & could actually do a good job, add depth & wouldn't cost Man City size transfer fees.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am sure others will have a view on this.}

I think we will see more outs than ins this summer. I expect the ins to be experienced players at or entering their prime.

I don't agree with pretty much most of what you say in terms of incoming.

Reina is on huge wages and he needs to leave. I don't see Vorm or Rudy coming into be a back-up to Mignolet; that kind of thing never happens.

Richards has missed pretty much the entire last 2 years through injury, why would you ever want him? Lescott is average and why would you want him to replace Agger?

Sagna and Cole would be good players, but neither are viable options, particularly Cole due to his wages.

Diame, another poor player and Menez is temperamental. Lallana would an excellent signing but I wouldn't let Allen go.

Suso don't provide "width"; he is more of a attacking midfielder who plays wide like Nasri or Silva.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty much all those signings run counter to our policy. Richards ticks boxes but the injuries have to be a concern. Allen is a crucial member of the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dis agree with nearly everything you said. I'd keep Agger definitely, I am undecided about Johnson. I'd sell Reina and don't think he is much of an upgrade on Mignolet. He made some terrible errors in his last 2 seasons with us, and wanted to leave anyway. I don't see the point in forking out fir Vorm, would certainly keep Allen and wouldn't go near Menez. I used to think Diame could be a good player but he hasn't really developed his game and is overreliant on power. Anyway that's why I love this site, we all have opinions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lallana, Shaqiri, Caulker, Bertrand for something like 65m combined with Ilori, Wisdom, Suso & Borini returning making it eight players in. Agger, Skrtel, Enrique (all 2 years on contracts), Reina, Coates, Robinson, Aspas, Assaidi, Adorjan and Cissokho & Moses leaving netting upto 50m (6 of this years squad leaving) Also saving around 15m on wages. Skrtel the one we'd most likely keep but Agger, Enrique & Aspas have only 30 PL starts between them. I reckon we'd be stronger without spending much at all. All the ins are Rodgers type signings and with 3 having PL experience they should slot straight in.

How many points from their possible last 9 do you think Manc City will get and who will they slip up playing against?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They will drop points to Everton draw most Likley but Liverpool don't do nothing easy I can see us on the same points last game of the season with west ham parking the buss at the etihad and us winning in the last min

Agree0 Disagree0

Or Carroll to bang in a bullet nut best 35 million we ever spent!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope not
I would think the players will go all out to win against Palace if City do drop points.
City will be wary going into their game considering their recent run of games at Goodison so I too am hopeful they will lose or draw that one.
As the others are at home I can't see them dropping points there. But stranger things have happened.

Agree0 Disagree0

Our percentage chance of the title is hard to work out. Everton v City is the defining game for me. Everton win and Liverpool have 2 ways to win title - with 4 or 6 more points. A draw means the pressure is on us and stats suggest we draw a lot of games away against teams in and around Palace. Newcastle, Swansea & WBA. City win and our prospects look bleak. Chelsea need both City and Liverpool to drop at least 3 pts each. Winning on goal difference from Chelsea isn't out of the question.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think They'll win em all now Toure's back. Sadly IMO I feel we blew our chance. But what a great effort from everyone at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be realistic lads, city will smash West Ham and Aston Villa, we MUST win both our games, our only hope is Everton taking something off city.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think City if they are going to drop points then it will be when no-one expects them too. My guess for the game where they may drop points might be villa.
Villa have a decent front three with a lot of pace and the fans will turn up expecting City to batter them.
having said that I hope they lose all three!
While there's Dimechelis there's hope!

Agree0 Disagree0

Who are a Villa's decent front 3? Benteke is injured and ask any Villa fan and they'll tell you Agbonlahor and Weimann have been shocking this season. Afraid it's only Everton who can save the day. the Hammers have shipped about 27 against City this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Love the idea of City dropping points against Everton, but despite their history there, I think they are firing on all cylinders now and Everton are losing form and momentum (since Crystal Palace loss). I really think Villa or West Ham are more likely bets. Aside frim the losses to Chelsea, they only seem to lose to bottom teams (and ofcourse, the mighty men in red!). No matter what, it will come down to final day of season. Possibly final minutes. My heart tells me we will win.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only way liverpool are going to win the title this year is by scoring 12+ goals in their remaining 2 games hoping city don't score many in their wins.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really surprised people think it will be so easy for City. They have lost 4 of last 5 at Goodison with equally good teams. City's *^%# fell out 2 years ago when they had to beat QPR at home. They scraped past them with the last kick. Admittedly their chances are improved as Everton are without Barry, Jags & Distin. Bobby Martinez wants 5th though so they will be motivated.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just going to say that same thing we need two 7 nil wins and I reckon we'll win it with that! I know, I know.

Agree0 Disagree0

Although the Toffees did lose against Palace and Southampton they have an excellent record against the big sides at home.

hi ads and fellow Liverpool fans,

just wanted to enquire over the FFP and the punishment to man city and psg. can the punishment be deducted point within the league? maybe this seasons, or the next. or if the punishment is exclusion out of the champions league next season, will that mean 5 place take there position?

kind regards

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They will not lose points and will not be expelled from the CL next season.}

It's a financial penalty isn't it? Oh the irony.

Can Liverpool stop hemorrhaging money and sustain a team which is competitive in the League and Champions League with transfers and wages for good to top players being so expensive.

Seems a catch 22 that to break even or make profit we need to cut back on wages, transfers or stadium plans but to remain competitive we need to spend on all 3. It's no coincidence that pundits, media and fans are saying United need a £200m splurge to compete for top honours again. Developing youth is perhaps an answer but look where that's got Wenger.

Answer on a postcard.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - When the next set of financial results are released in March 2015 there will be an improvement. And again, in March 2016 you will see a further improvement.}

The club seem to be doing a lot on the marketing front to further promote the brand globally and positively effect revenues. Slowly but purposeful.

hi eds

when does glen johnsons contract run out, are we trying to get him to sign a new one, I hope not because at his best he is a very good plater but he has not shown that this season and when we played man city in the 2nd half they attacked his side and got a lot of joy from it so I think he not be given a new contract,, he has been good for the club but it think he is feeling his age now and he seems to get beat too easily now, we have flanno to play there and with another season under his belt like the season he has had in this one he will become a top right back, it his time now because of the progress he has made with playing at left back shows to me that all he needs is more game time at right back,, and then we can get a young left back with potential or ability already

is luke shaw definately out of the question, I've read we are looking a lallana, and I remember a picture of the england players training and with stevie and sturridge lallana and shaw was traing with them, maybe i'm looking into the picture too much but what a coup it would be to get both of them

ynwa

mickey b

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Johnson's contract runs until 2015. I have answered about Shaw before.}

To spend 30m on a raw left back, however much promise he shows, is madness. Most teams don't spend that on their star striker. Shaw always looks athletic and full of purpose but he does get caught out positionally quite a lot. At 20m it's still a lot but about right.

Agree0 Disagree0

Someone will probably spend 30 million on shaw, and then sell him on to Real Madrid for 50 million if he progresses like bale

Agree0 Disagree0

Shaw will sign for Chelsea. I would not be surprised if this is the first signing of the window either.
For the future England left back I think 30 Million is a little over priced but how old is he 19? that's 10-13 yrs at about 3 million per year.
That for me is good business.
I would love the lad at Liverpool.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea has no interest in Shaw at the price being asked and are talking to another team about a left back.}

What is that price Ed?
I think he is a chelsea fan so I put two and two together and came out with 22!
I must admit I was surprised that Cole signed a new contract as I thought he(shaw) would be nailed on for Chelsea considering he supports them.
Again I would love him at Anfield I think he has an old head on young shoulders and would be brilliant for us.
I would not mind Taylor at Swansea either.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not interested in discussing money and Ashley Cole has not signed a new contract.}

Never quite understand all the Shaw stuff. He's good for his age, but not really all that special otherwise so it's a purchase made on the hope of future potential rather than actual current ability.

He's got what, one assist and no goals this season? Flanagan (in 1,000 minutes less playtime than Shaw) has one of each, as well as the same number of tackles, more interceptions, and a not dissimilar number of chances created per minute played.

Not really super impressive to me for a very much attack minded LWB whose often one of the furthest players up the pitch for Soton.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke Shaw is quicker and runs and passes like a "technical" European player. That is all what people care about these days.

Well, I know who to blame for the loss on the weekend. My cousin received a season ticket this year and he has only missed 2 home games this season. The first game was Southampton and the 2nd game was Chelsea. He has officially ruined us by going on holiday. He changed his holiday to miss this game and make it back for the game against Newcastle.

Hi eds

There seemed to be a lot of away fans at Stamford bridge yesterday,
Is it Uefa rules that you have to allocate a large number of away tickets or was that Chelsea's decision?

Just wondering

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - UEFA has a minimum allocation of 5% for away fans. Chelsea rounded it up to 2,500 or so and allocated them in the same block.}

01 May 2014 11:18:42
Seeing rumours of cavani going to Man U, if we can't get him with CL football, a top 3 (minimum) finish and his best bud suarez playing for us can someone tell me why he would go to Man Utd? Not saying we should go for him its unrealistic but surely its even more unlikely for him to go somewhere else in premier league other than chelski or Man City

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - are you really this dense? We can't afford him, they can! When are some of you going to understand the losses the club is sustaining???}

I meant in terms of the player himself I know we can't afford him but if you were at a club that had rich owners paying you a fortune would you move to the premier league to play for Man U who aren't in CL finishing 6/7th and don't know who their manager is. If I were a player out of the clubs who could afford i'd only go chelsea or Man U. If we could afford him then us as well obviously, I don't think I made it clear I meant in a players view rather than financially viable.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - how can that be relevant. We can't afford him, so it is not a question of choosing between us, we aren't in the running at all. So it is a choice of going to United, and playing regularly, or staying in PSG where he is unhappy and has already made it clear he wants to leave.}

I hope they blow 50 million on him, don't rate him

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi ed001

i did not know we were making big losses what's the ball park figure are we losing, I know we will have money for being in the champs league and also that the owners was only going to give BR a medium sum of money every bit helps, so what type of player or players could we afford in the summer, I trust BR because he has shown with a little amount of money he can find very good players who are not over the top price wise, any way we have taken our 1st step towards the glory years to come, that's all it needs one step at a time

mickey b

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - £1M a week since the owners arrived.}

I don't think you are dense for asking, but he will surely be stuck going to one of the richest clubs after playing at PSG. Wouldn't be surprised to see either of City, United, Chelsea, Bayern, or Madrid signing him. His stock has fallen since last year, but he will still command 45 milllion, with 200/week wages. Also, we don't need him. Borini coming back!

Wouldnt it been better had Chelsea reached the final for England as a country? I mean ranking wise?
Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Yes but the fact is this season
'England' was only really bettered by Spanish clubs. So it's not a massive difference.

What a lesson of football from Athletico yesterday and what a lesson of tactics from Simeone to Mou. The face of Mou after the third goal was priceless, I loved it. The player who impressed me yesterday was Juanfran. He was awesome with his frequent moving forward and coming back to defend and his crosses was immense especially the two assists he made. I would love to see him at LFC next season to replace Johnson. I know some of you will tell me we have Kelly and Wisdom but to move form a good to an excellent team you should have a RB like Juanfran.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Probably the first time you have seen Juanfran. He is a solid player, having being converted to a RB by Atletico, but IMO, he is not a whole lot better than Johnson.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you'll find Johnson would be snapped up by a massive club if we didn't agree a new contract. He looks laid back but he's asked to get forward so when we lose it and teams break he can get caught high up the pitch. Doesn't mean he isn't a fine player. Kelly and Wisdom are light years behind, trust me. He's a top level player and they are back ups.

Agree0 Disagree0

The events of Sunday and last night are now in the past. The important games now take place on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Wednesday. The only thing I will say about last night's match is that there was a referee who did recognise that the foul by Eto'o was deserving of a penalty. If only something similar had happened in December we might all be breathing a little easier at the moment. Another annoying thing is the fact that many journalists suddenly realise now that Ferguson is gone that there are other candidates for Manager of the Season. I find it sad that they would choose Tony Pulis(!) over Brendan Rodgers. It is unfortunately the British way of selecting the underdog rather than a successful person. Whatever happens we owe Brendan a lot of thanks and I hope that he wins that award (many times) in the near future

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Exactly what I was thinking. Eto'o foul on Suarex was a clear penalty in December.

As for the Manger of the Year award, I find it quite hilarious that a manager who has taken the club from 7th to almost winning the league, while at the same time playing attractive football, breaking records along the way, improving his players massively and with a very young and small squad, is looked upon as only second best to Tony Pulis, whose team play football most of these very Journalists disprove of and have just been in charge for about half a season.

Agree0 Disagree0

About manager of the year award, even if BR did win the prem I still think he would not win it, because the mediadont like Liverpool as a team or a city, if we tear a team apart it has nothing to do with the way we played and the way we stopped the other team playing its always how poor or bad the other team played, like when we played arsenal, all the talk was about how bad they were, not how good we were and that we never let them play their game because our player work very hard to win the ball back and to score, so there's an answer as to why tony pullis will get the manager of the year award, has other manager who saved clubs from relegation won the manager award when Manchester United won the prem, I can't remember any

mickey b

Agree0 Disagree0

Who really cares about manager of the year? I doubt BR cares. Do you remember who won manager of the year in 1998, say? Or 2003? Or three years ago? Thought not.

We will finish in the top 2 and be in the CL. And BR will doubtless get a pay raise.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if Liverpool finish 2nd I would argue that taking a team from 7th to that position is harder than taking a team at the bottom to a few points above relegation. Not to say Pulis hasn't done an unbelievable job. It is harder to coach our style of football to his. The level of competition at the top and bottom is poles apart. If we'd taken average footy fans predictions by points and finishing positions at the start of the season the chances are we'd have been 5th or 6th on 66-70 pts and Palace would have been 19/20 on 32-36 pts. By that yardstick it's close.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't worry about it we all know Rodgers was the best manager this season, also if we win or lose the league we do it over 38 games and not one incident.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 01:05:45
Removing thoughts of wins and league/cl qualification, what's the biggest positive from the season?
I like the fact that gerrard no longer is being talked about being replaced, he hasn't been the dynamic force of old, but our new shape midfield, (gerrard hendo +1/2) is shaping up nicely, and, as much as it pains me to say it, we could build a team without him! Few seasons ago, I'd have thought we would have to buy in big to do so!
Any other thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brendan Rodgers (the manager/coach, not the media whore). What he has achieved with certain players (an unhappy and often unhinged Suarez, Sterling, Flanagan, Gerrard, Henderson, Skrtel etc) has been unbelievable. Of course he doesn't deserve all of the credit as said players and other coaching staff can take credit also, but he has worked wonders with the squad. Rodgers is also tactically brave experimental. At his age and experience now, boy am I looking forward to what he can achieve with a few years at LFC under his belt.

Hard to pick one thing to focus on Conbicks so godd question mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

The biggest positive for me was that we successfully challenged and yet, could win the tittle in only BR's 2nd year in charge.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 08:22:14
Personally, the best thing for me this season has been our fluent attack.
In the last few years we have struggled to kill teams off and score enough goals, and yet this year we have been in full flow.
At the start of the season Rodgers said he wanted to make coming to Anfield the longest 90 minutes of an opponents season, by choking possession. This didn't happen, because we stumbled upon a front 3 that could make those 90 minutes the longest of the opponents season by completely tearing them apart.
This is thanks to the emergence of Sterling and Flanagan along with a step up from Henderson and Coutinho. You also have to look at Rodgers' ability to make the most of this with his tactical set up. Pulling Gerrard back into a back 3 when attacking, so that he can pick out runs from deep, whilst also allowing Johnson and Flanagan to get forward has been superb. This allows Henderson Sterling and Coutinho to play through the middle without us losing any width, meaning we end up with a front 5.

Negatives, defense. However, a lot of our defensive issues have been individual error and so would. It expect as many problems next season. I believe that we need to look at trying Sakho and Agger together, regardless of them both being left footed. They are the most mobile and comfortable on the ball, fitting our style of play at the back. Skrtel has had brilliant season, but his man handling tactics in our box and lack of composure on the ball are a real issue for me.

Never thought I'd say this but COYB. May our closest neighbours and fiercest rivals ironically give us the means to clinch the title from the very grasp of City.

Agree0 Disagree0

That we have a real team with spirit and belief.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it has to be the mental attitude and resillience of the players. Bodes well for seasons to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling for me.

Turned himself from a decent prospect who might get the odd game into a quality player who is a certain starter when fit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anfield Andy Skrtel has been our best center half by miles this season hate seen him get a hard time

Agree0 Disagree0

01 May 2014 14:10:12
He has been best yes, but that does not detract from the fact that he has more mistakes in him than the others, and does not fit our play from the back attitude.
I like the fella but if one of him Sakho or Agger had to leave then it would be him for me, although I'd rather have all 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it's been Anfield looking a lot more like, well, Anfield. Obviously results have had a fair amount to do with that but it's been great seeing home games look and sound more like what I remember from years gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me its the way BR has made the players believe in themselves, young texeria said BR made him feel 10 feet tall, he came and BR told him to play is normal game and to try and score, his pass led to a penalty that gave us the win, I think it was the fulham game, not sure though, he has given the players and us fans the belief we can win the prem,

mickey b

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah mickey b was the Fulham game! Then gerrard pops over to him and says something like 'that was f'ing brilliant' lol!

Another thing I like is the British domination of our teams! Sturridge sterling Gerrard hendo Allen Johnson Flanagan etc, I think it helps team bonding!
