here's hoping after tonight's game were 12 points clear of arsenal if we beat Newcastle and city Beat Chelsea we go 7 points clear of them.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

01 Mar 2018 21:23:27
If only it were that simple!

We can’t take Saturday for granted. Benitez has never lost to Liverpool. Klopp has never beaten Newcastle in the Premier League and they are the side he has the worst points per game record against in England.

We must NOT be complacent.

01 Mar 2018 21:35:24
Regadless of stats, I think we'll destroy them on Saturday, I said the other day 5-0, I stand by it, with Mane, Salah and Firmino on the form they're on, we'll deal with them quite comfortably imo.

Klopp has never beaten Newcastle - Until Saturday.
Benitez has never lost to Liverpool - Until Saturday.

Going on them stats I don't think the team will be complacent and will be ready for them.

01 Mar 2018 21:44:30
I hope you’re right Salah! I just don’t want us to perform like against Swansea away or West Brom/ Everton at home and don’t win when we really need to is all.

It’s a must win game on Saturday - I’m right behind the Reds! Come on boys! YNWA.

01 Mar 2018 22:01:40
Yeah I know what you mean Reid mate that Swansea game haunts me too.

01 Mar 2018 23:54:07
there are always those games which come to haunt you. 2014 when we finished 2nd the chelsea game and the palace game. when benitez team came second it was the game against pompy wherw we had a draw and the draw againt arsenal at home.

02 Mar 2018 07:44:25
We owe Rafa and Newcastle one from earlier in the season, 4-1 to Liverpool. We don't do clean sheets😉.

01 Mar 2018 20:18:38
I really think we should try and go for Xhaka this summer, Wenger just doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of him, his quality is undoubted.

Joke! Just kidding, he's dross. But, it does seem like there is death in the air at the Emirates, I fear this might actually finally be the beginning of the end for Wenger. They look cataclysmically bad.

Believable12 Unbelievable20

01 Mar 2018 20:35:36
I hope Wenger stays for as long as he wants to.

01 Mar 2018 21:10:30
I genuinely feel sorry for Arsenal fans. Out of the top teams I have a lot of time for Arsenal, Spurs and a grudging respect even for Utd. With Arsenal it’s not a case of a cataclysmic failure over a season or two leading to a struggle to reach the top again, such as with us. Their slow and steady downfall began years ago, pretty much everyone could see it and yet the same bloke is in charge. It seems unreal to me that a manager so clearly out of touch (IMO anyway) with the modern game is both allowed and persists with his current role. For me it’s a sorry sight to see what is a genuinely a great footballing club getting dragged down by a stubborn manager and made to look silly by a team that, let face it, is only where it is because of rich owners.

{Ed001's Note - I feel sorry for City's players personally, they must be bloody freezing out there. They have been strolling around in freezing cold air all night.}

01 Mar 2018 22:16:05
Ha brilliant.

02 Mar 2018 08:37:03
dragged down by a stubborn manager
=================
Yeah they should sack him and get Roy Hodgson in . All am saying is anyone sure its the manager's fault, considering they have a well publicised division within their own board .

01 Mar 2018 18:50:43
Hey ed's appreciate you don't talk money and this may be a stupid question but can a player's individual sponsors affect what team they may sign for?
I remember a story saying Rory Mcilroy wouldn't have been permitted to represent Ireland at the Olympics (If he'd chosen to) as his Nike contract wouldn't have allowed him to wear the NB ireland kit.
Just wondering mate. Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - At the very highest level I have known of a couple or three occasions where it has happened.}

01 Mar 2018 19:08:52
He chose not to represent Ireland. Wasn't about sponsorship. Very disappointing.

01 Mar 2018 19:14:43
Thanks mate!

01 Mar 2018 20:14:34
I know Cruyff only had two stripes on his Dutch shirt because of his deal with Puma?

02 Mar 2018 12:57:27
He's from northern ireland; not ireland lol maybe that had something to do with it? Could of went with team GB.

01 Mar 2018 12:38:41
Question for mk. Would you consider doing podcasts?

Believable12 Unbelievable25

01 Mar 2018 13:42:19
Good shout I’d listen to it.

01 Mar 2018 13:43:37
If i had time, but i have a 1 year old son who i have to watch every night. He'd just scream down the mic, or try and eat a candle 😂

I'd certainly be open to it when he's a bit older though and i don't have to watch him like a hawk or duct tape his mouth shut.

01 Mar 2018 13:49:45
Think you would be brilliant at it mate give it a go.

01 Mar 2018 14:14:21
I definitely think it's something you'd be excellent at. Sure you could always make the baba an adorable part of the cast as they wreck the place in the background. I'm fairly certain you'd find an audience in the pool podcasts let alone the footballing podcasts world. For one thing, very few have any clue what exactly are going on in the world beyond the last war media drivel. I would imagine you would have the beginnings of a listenership already. Even those who love to hit the disagree button. I adore the sharkopod and obviously the benny and tris magic hour is gold. Thing is, they're so rare for many reasons. Not saying you have plenty time on your hands but if you attacked the world of podcasts like you do with your posts, I really believe it would be a great listen. Anyway buddy, keep up the posts, they're appreciated greatly.

01 Mar 2018 14:18:33
I'd love to do one if it was about one of; Liverpool FC, the Premier league, certain players, the current season, styles of play etc. Things like that, that i feel i know enough about to at least not be boring, even if i was controversial and everyone disagreed! I wouldn't do one focused on transfers either, because I'm not in the know at all!

I've done public speaking before in front of 300 people, but this site gets a lot more hits than that! No pressure, right? 😂 i also have a minor speech impediment caused by an accident when i was 15, that might annoy some people. I can't say any words that use a "th" which sounds like a "f". For example i say "fink" instead of "think", and i struggle with the letter "S". I was smashed in the face and it gave me nerve damage, broke my nose and i had to have a few months of dentistry to repair the damage 😂 If nobody minds any of that, then I'm up for it!

I'd have to pre-plan it in advance and then i could probably get someone to watch my lad.

01 Mar 2018 14:26:48
I wouldn't mind that at all MK, would be great to listen to a podcast of yours mate regardless of your speech impediment and I'm sure the majority would appreciate it if you did do one. Maybe get Betty from next door to join in? she could do a singalong when you have a break or something like that lol give her a wooden spoon and a frying pan to use as a drum and you'll be sorted mate :)

01 Mar 2018 14:29:41
I'd listen to the podcast mate. Always good to hear the opinions of others, especially someone as knowledgable as MK.

01 Mar 2018 14:45:20
Cheers lads. Would people want me to do them with someone, or just by myself with a topic to discuss?

01 Mar 2018 14:49:22
Agree with everyone. It's not half obvious you have a big passion for all things football and LFC MK and you also put your points across in a well thought out manner. Don't fret over the speech impediments mate, all us decent folk wouldn't even give it a second thought.

I hear ya about no time tho as I have an 11 month old and finding time to commit to anything other than work, the missus and keeping the house running is a massive task.

01 Mar 2018 14:55:11
I'm from bray mk. To anyone in Ireland the accent is a speech impediment. 🤣 I don't think anybody on this site would have an issue at all and really, if they did I think that just says more about them as humans. I think what you have to say is far more important than how you say it. Hey you never know, you may just have an amazing asmr voice locked in there. I know it's not the same but look at Johnathon Ross. It's all about personality and delivery. I think the majority of posters, lurkers and indeed eds would very much enjoy your input. (Regardless of whether or not some of us agree on all of the topics) .

01 Mar 2018 14:59:22
The world is your oyster. Start with whatever you are comfortable with mate. Might avoid the whole xabi and gerrard thing though.

01 Mar 2018 14:59:38
First of all get it done old boy sounds like a good idea. Don't worry about speech dude I am sure it's not that bad.
2nd I'd nominate Harry as a guest as I love him. I think you two could have one top notch podcast.

01 Mar 2018 15:24:25
Great idea. Things can get misunderstood easily through text, so it could allow MK to to expand and explain certain points easier.

01 Mar 2018 15:32:05
You could call it "get it right" or "mk gets it right"

01 Mar 2018 15:56:48
I'd call it "Liverpool Fan TV" and just tear into Klopp after every defeat 😂 I'd love Harry as a guest one day if it took off.

Aoe, I'm sure the bray accent isn't that bad. I used to work with a guy from Dublin and he never shut up about how he was great at hurling, and he smoked like a chimney. With the accent, the smokers cough and the constant hurling references, i don't think anybody had a clue what he was on about. Lovely bloke. Man United fan though sadly.

Okay though lads, thank you for the request. No promises on a time scale, but i will try and throw something together. I'll have to create a YouTube account first! Never done this computer stuff in my life, but my brother is a genius!

01 Mar 2018 16:25:30
Brilliant stuff mk. Fair dues to you. It's always great to hear of someone stepping out of their comfort zone. It's also far braver than hitting the dislike button anonymously. I'd imagine ed1 and benny might have some sage advice for you with your endeavours. Prepare for a backlash at the start regardless. As for me, I'm really looking forward to listening. I doubt I'm alone. Ynwa.

01 Mar 2018 16:36:23
Cheers aoe! I'll see what i can do.

01 Mar 2018 16:40:10
Nice one mk just make sure u let us know in advance so you get the best audience. In all seriousness please get Harry on if he was up for it. I'd also be interested to hear Ron's opinions.

01 Mar 2018 18:15:13
Negative

You are already a legend in my book along with Ed025. What a lovely display picture you have got mate! He looks so cute 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗.

01 Mar 2018 18:27:35
Harry v mk- why kovacic was never needed at club. That's box office right there.

01 Mar 2018 20:25:22
This is a great idea. I know I constantly play devils advocate with some of your words MK but I think we have quite a unique community on here and it would be good to take advantage of the collective knowledge and opinions everyone shares! 'Kopcast'
So long as it didn't become a laughing stock like AFTV 😂.

01 Mar 2018 12:21:01
Hi! I was very sceptical about Alisson but this guy has really good reactions close range and he seems to be very smart positional sense. Here you can see some saves!

Believable8 Unbelievable3

01 Mar 2018 13:36:30
A few catches wouldn't go a miss.

01 Mar 2018 14:52:36
I know Ed01 said he could be as good as DDG. But. Just bear in mind that that as far as getting a young keeper who has had one good season in another league goes, we did that already. Alisson does seem a slight waste of money when we don’t even know how VVD will help Karius develop and there are other areas we need to strengthen.

01 Mar 2018 15:03:59
Some really good saves but as vakpa said can he catch a ball?

01 Mar 2018 15:06:14
Well Buffons recent comments about Allison are pretty impressive and coming from one of the all time goal keeping greats.

01 Mar 2018 16:04:32
If he got Buffon's approval, he gets mine. Buffon is one of if not the best keeper of my lifetime.

01 Mar 2018 16:52:37
Allison is top quality and will be one of the top ten keepers in the world. If we prioritise anything this summer it should be to get him in if he is interested. If we don't get a keeper we should then prioritise a defensive partner for vvd and cover for full back and see how karius develops. Oh and i guess we need a midfielder to cover for cans departure.

01 Mar 2018 18:06:11
I feel many are setting them self up for disappointment! I would love Alisson to come but can you really see us, 1. Paying way over his market value to make Roma happy just because we got Salah on the ''cheap''? 2. That Alisson would pick us over f. eks Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG who are all interested? I'm just being realistic.

01 Mar 2018 18:24:12
Spot on, Nostradamus. Not to forget that Ed02 has said Allison is for now, a non starter, would cost a pot of gold, and that Klopp really wants Navas while at the same time open to keeping Karius if he impresses which he is actually doing. IMO, I would let this whole Allison stuff go as we have other pressing issues in midfield and out wide, to deal with.

01 Mar 2018 19:30:13
I won't judge on a video clip, but i'd be quite worried about how many shots he parried right into the danger area of the 6 yard box.

Looks very agile and quick though.

01 Mar 2018 20:20:15
He’s been the best keeper in Serie A this season and he’s Brazil’s first choice ahead of Man City’s keeper. Watch any of Roma’s games and you’ll see why he’s ok course to be one of the best in Europe. £60m for him represents better value for money than Navas at half the price. If we can’t or aren’t going for Becker. Don’t waste £30m on Navas, spend that elsewhere and keep Ward and let him and Karius fight for number one.

01 Mar 2018 21:00:13
Cafu once gave Flanagan his approval! I'm absolutely sure Alisson will carry on his upwards trajectory but not every quality player knows another quality player 😉.

01 Mar 2018 21:26:36
30 million for Navas, now that's bloody hilarious.

01 Mar 2018 22:00:28
Madness really, Nostradamus.

01 Mar 2018 22:03:07
I like a keeper that can stand his ground and doesn't fall backwards to make a save.

02 Mar 2018 02:24:40
Has anyone asked Buffon about Karius?

01 Mar 2018 12:10:15
Ed001
Was chatting about players and goal scorers with my u13 team and the Kane's and shearers got mentioned. Being Liverpool Owen, Torres and the god that is Fowler got mentioned.
Van Nistlerooy and Mccoist was to that got mentioned and some of the boys were unaware of them.

Van Nistlerooy I know off but mcCoist.

How good was he mate? Any info would be much appreciated.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - struggled in English footie but went back and scored for fun in Scotland. An average player who found his level.}

01 Mar 2018 15:34:30
Saying that ed01, he had a decent record at international level. If fowler is our God, mCcoist is rangers God.

{Ed001's Note - against who? He is nothing like Fowler, you should wash your mouth out with soap and water for that disgusting statement. McCoist is a money-obsessed sell out, who went to England for the money and then scammed the Rangers fans for more money when the club folded. He was only there because he was not good enough to go anywhere else. Fowler had numerous offers to leave and never had any interest until Houllier forced him out of the club. That's as well as being that Fowler was quality and McCoist was average.}

01 Mar 2018 18:27:11
I it harsh on SS there, Ed01 BUT I get your point and the passion behind it due to your knowledge of the whole story about both players. As for me, I saw McCoist play and he is simply not fit to carry Fowler's boots, talk less of lacing them. That comparison was ill-thought of, IMO.

01 Mar 2018 23:14:34
'He is nothing like Fowler, you should wash your mouth out with soap and water for that disgusting statement. '

I almost choked on my kronenbourg then Ed1 mate. Exactly my thoughts mate, McCoist shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as god, it's sinful.

01 Mar 2018 12:10:15

{Ed001's Note - he was not good enough in England but top class in Scotland. Very average striker but found his level in the SPL.}

01 Mar 2018 11:11:13
I'd like to start a debate which encourages your own opinion. I don't want to know who you think is best because nobody will ever agree fully.

Who are your 5 favourite players of the Premier League era and why? Don't have to be the best, just your personal favourites, not including players still playing in the Prem. Your reason doesn't even have to make sense to anyone but you, as this is purely asking what you feel in your heart. Remember, only include players who've retired or at least moved abroad.

Mine is:

1. Torres - my first childhood hero
2. Kuyt - for his work rate
3. Agger - for how much he loved LFC
4. Carragher - for his passion
5. Gerrard - for his moments of magic.

Believable7 Unbelievable8

01 Mar 2018 11:19:56
It's a real difficult one this but I'll go with the following.

1. Thierry Henry
2. Gerrard
3. Alonso
4. Lampard
5. Carragher

You maybe should of upped this to 10 mate it's hard to pick 5 :) lol.

01 Mar 2018 11:24:36
1 Gerrard for obvious reasons
2 Alonso, he was what a lpool CM should be

3 Barnes passed his best in premier era but what a player
4Fowler he was lethal
5 Macca very underrated but class act.

01 Mar 2018 11:24:54
Gerrard
Fowler
Carra
Mcmanaman
Hyypia

Tough to narrow it down as so many miss out (Babbel, hamann, xabi, Torres, Gary Mac, Berger) but I’d go with those 5 as they gave me the most special moments in this prem era. (Barring Mcmanaman who was just one of the most exciting players in the 90s)

01 Mar 2018 11:25:01
1. Hyypia - My first childhood hero.
2. Agger - Will always love this guy. As someone who has always played in defence growing up, these 2 will always be at the top of my list.
3. Alonso - I once sat in the Kop end and just watched him, no one else for a about 10 minutes. It was the best lesson in football I’ve ever received. Awareness and intelligence on another level in my opinion.
4. Carragher - Same as MK.
5. Gerrard - Same as MK.

Kuyt (For his determination), Torres (First few seasons) and Hamman all honourable mentions. God’s peak was before my time, otherwise he’d have been in.

01 Mar 2018 11:27:58
In no particular order:

Robbie - simply the best and cheekiest
Gerrard - what else to say?
Macca - his runs
Grobellar - nuts!
Riise - power left foot.

01 Mar 2018 11:29:45
Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick, if it's for Liverpool players only it'd be -

1. Hyypia
2. Gerrard
3. Alonso
4. Carragher
5. Fowler.

01 Mar 2018 11:36:00
Alonso
Mascerano.
Hyypia.
Litmanen but not so much or us but the rest of his career.
Babbel. Marcus not Ryan.

01 Mar 2018 11:34:14
Doesn't have to be Liverpool players only, Salah. Henry nearly made my list too. Some great replies. Fascinating to see who the fan favourites were and why!

{Ed025's Note - shearer, henry, bergkamp, zola, schmichael(snr)..

01 Mar 2018 11:39:48
Hyypia is a great shout to everyone who mentioned him. Treble winning captain! I loved how composed he was. Nothing phased him. Maybe i should've done top 10 😂 I'll also put a name out there, my favourite non LFC player; Dennis Bergkamp! C'mon Eds. Ed025 be interested to hear yours especially, as you're not a red so will have sone much different picks!

01 Mar 2018 11:43:44
Luis garcia x5.

01 Mar 2018 12:03:53
1) King Kenny, for his play and everything about the man.

2) Peter Beardsley, he played in the most exciting Liverpool team.

3) John Barnes, at his peak unplayable.

4) Bergkamp, his touch and vision, second to none.

5) Big Sami, bargain buy of the century.

01 Mar 2018 12:04:34
Zola, bergkamp, makelele, Henry, hyypia.

01 Mar 2018 12:04:53
Fowler. That good my son was named Robbie Too

Shearer. An absolute legend

Ryan Giggs. Unbelievable how good he was.

Hyypia. Best centre back I have seen in a Red shirt

Carragher (just edges Agger) . Never seen a love and passion for a club like him. Gave everything every time. Left it all on the pitch.

01 Mar 2018 12:08:38
Fowler, okocha, henry, zola and suarez!

01 Mar 2018 12:10:36
Fowler . Gerrard . Suarez . Torres . Salah
I've put salah infront of Coutinho out of respect on how good he's been for the reds this season. Amazing footballer.

01 Mar 2018 12:10:36
Fowler . Gerrard . Suarez . Torres . Salah
I've put salah infront of Coutinho out of respect on how good he's been for the reds this season. Amazing footballer.

01 Mar 2018 12:29:25
zola: delight on and off the pitch
bergkamp: absolute genius footballer
fowler: God
mcmanaman: first love as a young fan
gerrard: captain fantastic.

01 Mar 2018 12:22:04
The two that set my heart on fire -
Macca,
God.

Two that kept the flame burning -
Hyypia,
Gerrard.

One stupid love affair -
The Uruguayan one gave me some unrivalled joy, but I really should know better.

Honorable mention, secret admirer -
Henrik Larsson.

01 Mar 2018 12:23:34
For Liverpool players during the Premier League era only, I would have to say :

Suarez
Gerrard
Hyypia
Alonso
Fowler

(With Agger, Torres, McManaman, Coutinho and Jones in the next 5)

01 Mar 2018 12:34:23
Aurelio - i love left footed players.
Riera - he's left footed too
Thierry Henry - well, he's a left footed too, right?
Giggs- he's definitely left-footed
Hitzlsperger - well, u know why.

01 Mar 2018 12:39:14
Torres - loved him, hated him, don't care about him anymore :)
Le Tissier - audacious
Suarez - consistently brilliant ON the pitch
Fowler - a real footballer
Shearer - put his beautiful calves behind every shot on goal.

01 Mar 2018 12:46:10
Premier league only?

Barnes
Fowler
Gerrard
Torres
Henry.

01 Mar 2018 12:46:39
Haizan you killed me with that left foot stuff 😂 no Djimi Traore, Emiliano Insua, Andrea Dossena, Paul Konchesky or Jose Enrique though? Booo!

On a side note, i really liked Hitzlesperger. His left foot was a cannon! A lot of my mates support West Ham and he was their favourite player for his time at the club. Whilst we're discussing him, huge respect for him having the courage to come out as openly homosexual. That was brave and I hope he inspires others to openly be themselves in our game.

01 Mar 2018 13:02:39
Lol. I didn't read the post! 🤔.

01 Mar 2018 13:11:42
Well I for one loved two players.

1. John Arne Riise
2. Harry Kewell.

01 Mar 2018 13:43:01
in no particular order

1. Kolo Toure
2. Steven Gerrard
3. Xabi
4. Diego Costa
5. Luis Suarez.

01 Mar 2018 13:48:59
Barnes
Bergkamp (my fave non liverpool ever in prem)
Rob Jones
Fowler
Gerrard.

01 Mar 2018 13:49:37
Bergkamp: straight up genius with or without the ball and made the most ridiculous turn on a defender I’ve ever seen.
Le tissier: one club man (at a relegation riddled period for Southampton, had most the big guns after him but showed his talent where it mattered most to him (home) .
Steven Gerrard: in my opinion the most all rounded footballer the premier league has seen and above all who could forget Istanbul?
Thierry Henry: made the rugged English game look beautiful most weeks, footballing brain and elegance second to none.
Luis Suarez: the man had everything, was never in the treatment despite being kicked left right and centre, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more determined player, he would run through brick walls if he could and the quality the man showed through his short time in the prem had me on the edge of my seat whenever he received the ball.
Could of done with a bigger list than 5 but never the less that’s my 5 who I would pick.

01 Mar 2018 14:03:57
Henry has to me my non lfc player pick, he was just a master at the game and made it look easy, very intelligent man on the pitch, all round top player.

01 Mar 2018 14:31:25
On a purely emotional level, Fowler, Camara, Hyppia, Kuyt and Studge.

01 Mar 2018 14:34:10
SpionKlopp, but of trivia regarding Suarez; he is one of only two players in premier league history to score over 30 premier league goals in a single season without taking a single penalty in that 13/ 14 season, and some of you may remember that he didn't even start playing until about 5 games in due to suspension.

If anybody can give me the other player, I'm impressed as until recently i thought Suarez was the only player who did it. Hint: They scored 34 goals for Newcastle, without a single one being a penalty.

01 Mar 2018 14:54:56
Michael Essien
Papa Bouba Diop
Didier Drogba
Patrick Viera
Jay Jay Okocha for an outside 5 I loved.

01 Mar 2018 15:08:01
Fully agree MK but like most great strikers past and present the aggression needed to make it to the top is what caused his trivia. I will concede though that he had a bit too much aggression or couldn’t control it.

01 Mar 2018 15:10:18
Sorry MK miss read your post, it wasn’t and Cole was it?

01 Mar 2018 15:11:44
Asprilla, MK?

01 Mar 2018 15:19:36
Mk was it Andy Cole.

01 Mar 2018 15:26:25
Owen - explosive exciting kid
Suarez - the meg master, always looked like he'd score
Stevie G - the greatest prem player
Bergkamp - sheer class
Scholes - best passer the prem has seen.

01 Mar 2018 15:42:01
Gerrard
Fowler
Mcmanaman
Alonso
Owen (loved him as a kid)

01 Mar 2018 15:45:46
In no particular order

Agger. Love for the club
Riise. One of my first memories of lfc was him sliding around like a mad man
Lucas. Great guy, great player, Unlucky.
Gerrard. Nuff said
Suarez. Magic/ Numpty

Shoutout to Owen for making me fall in love with the club, even though I've since found out he's maybe not the best Idol, without him who knows who I would support.

01 Mar 2018 15:57:20
Steven Gerrard
John Barnes
Steve Mcmanaman
Robbie Fowler
Luis Garcia.

01 Mar 2018 16:01:33
1. Bergkamp - for his intelligence and vision, he was the sort of player that, if I could choose to be like one, it would've been him.

2. Gerrard - for his seemingly endless heroics and the fact he was our captain.

3. Torres - for basically being a beast and giving me the feeling for the first time in many a season that we were on an upward trajectory in terms of our transfer business.

4. Hasselbaink - don't know why but always liked watching him, had an excellent scoring rate and an insanely hard shot that had virtually no backlift.

5. Crouch - always looked like he was enjoying himself, had excellent technique and ability to bring others into play and when he scores he always looks like he is buzzing.

Know a few of these aren't the best players but they are ones I liked watching the most, if its BEST then of course the names change but in terms of favourites? This would be it for me.

01 Mar 2018 16:02:18
Fowler- He is God afterall
Henry- Exuded class on the pitch, one of the few players I always dreamed might one day come to us.
Alonso- One of the best midfielders I have ever seen.
Bergkamp- Like Henry was just awesome to watch him play
Torres- Man crush when he first arrived lol.

If we are talking about football that existed prior to 1992 (I know hard to believe it did) then it would be much much harder as a lot of my all time favs played at their peak before the prem.

01 Mar 2018 16:14:39
Gerrard
Thierry Henry
Bergkamp
Alonso
Okocha/ Vieira

Big shout for momo sissoko as well, on his day he bosses the midfield against anyone. As a limited footballer I tried to play the 'hard lad' role in school lol.

01 Mar 2018 16:14:46
Bergkamp - favorite player ever. Highly intelligent
Henry - there was a period where he was simply unplayable
Agger - composed, brilliant timing when defending, scored some nice goals
Okocha - I'm a Nigerian, being patriotic. But he was fun to watch
P. Schmeichel - one of the best keepers ever. For me, the best of the premier league era.

01 Mar 2018 16:49:27
gerrard;
alonso: very good midfielders obviously, no need to decide who is better;)
luis garcia;
agger;
lucas:
they love liverpool just as much as i do.

01 Mar 2018 19:40:44
In no particular order
Rush- legend
Fowler- god
Scholes- would have loved him at LFC
Aguero- would love him at LFC
Gerrard- “what a hit, son, what a hit”.

01 Mar 2018 20:56:21

02 Mar 2018 00:37:41
I only started following this wonderful game and club in 2005/ 2006, so my memories are very recent:

1 - Torres, by a mile - he was the first footballer that I actually was excited to watch.

2 - Gerrard - had it all, and could do something out of nothing. FA Cup v West Ham my earliest memory of his magic.

3 - Firmino - if I played, he is who I would want to play like.

4 - Drogba - I thought he was immense. Always feared him when we played Chelsea.

5 - Adebayor - for his full length of the field run to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans. Funniest moment I have seen on the field. Brilliant.

02 Mar 2018 03:12:46
1. Torres - Literally wanted a Torres haircut when i was about 13.

2. Gerrard - Mr Liverpool. loved watching him and Torres together.

3. Carragher - Oh how i wish that 30 yarder against QPR had gone in. I also believe we would have won the title in 13/ 14 if he had stayed for that last year.

4. Alonso - It just all fell apart when he left. plus he probably had the best beard of the premier league era for Liverpool (Unless Alisson does end up in Liverpool)

5. Juninho Paulista - being from Middlesbrough i watched my fair share of Boro games, cracking little player, i think he might even have been linked to Liverpool in the nineties after his first spell on Teesside.

04 Mar 2018 09:17:33
MK was it Les Ferdinand?

01 Mar 2018 09:05:24
If I gave my answer to the question who my favourite premier league player is of all time, you'd think I was a teenager. I'm 45 years old and saw my first game at anfield in 1979. I've seen some amazing players and characters. That said, I'm all gaga over one Roberto firmino. Passion, desire, skill, Ability and most important from a scouse point of view, a cracking sense of humour. DO NOT SELL!

01 Mar 2018 09:58:42
I completely agree mate Firmino for me too.

01 Mar 2018 10:01:54
I read earlier that Firmino has completed twice as many tackles (36) as Paul Pogba has (18) this season! His defensive contribution is often forgotten because of his flair and magic. He is my favourite player too mate. Probably not the best in the Premier League as you'd have to give that to Giggs i think for what he achieved in the competition as much as his ability, but Firmino is definitely my personal favourite. He could retire as a Liverpool legend one day in my opinion. He's got everything.

01 Mar 2018 10:07:15
Has to be fowler for me. Bobby is doing really well tho this season which is a pleasant surprise as he has already out scored my season prediction.

01 Mar 2018 10:21:18
Another few seasons and he will become a great. I imagine the World Cup could make a huge impact on his value, especially when he outshines neymar and coutinho. Let's hope he's more a Lucas/ xabi to a Suarez/ coutinho.

01 Mar 2018 10:39:11
Giggs played for a side at the top end of his whole career, rather than being any sort of stand out player, imo.

01 Mar 2018 10:54:35
will be tough to outshine Neymar and Coutinho from the bench though! He is not first choice, Gabriel Jesus is.

01 Mar 2018 11:00:45
I see your point JT, but Giggs was arguably the best player at Man United during that time too. The only better individuals to play alongside him were Cantona, Ronaldo and Ferdinand in my opinion. They couldn't match his longevity remotely though.

It goes without saying though, Giggs was very fortunate to play in a great team for so long. But then don't you have to credit the player for never looking remotely out of place there across two decades? It's a tough argument that can go either way really. Did he help make United great, or did United help make him great. I think it was a mutual partnership if I'm honest. Still hate Giggs though because he constantly turned his back on my ancestral country to blow Fergie's trumpet.

{Ed001's Note - Scholes?? Keane?}

01 Mar 2018 10:49:28
Giggs? I was referring to ability plus character etc. Not just a list of titles as part of a pretty impressive squad it pains me to say. Giggs was a top player no doubt. But Bobby makes me shake my head in disbelief and admiration almost every game. He is the one player we have that I would put a not for sale sign on. I would also really miss his goal. celebrations. he's also ridiculously unselfish.

01 Mar 2018 11:16:25
Not for me Ed001. Scholes couldn't tackle, and Keane was a better leader than player. If you think about what a winger needs, Giggs had it all, as did Ronaldo Think about what a centre back needs and Ferdinand had it all. Think about what an attacking midfielder/ second striker needs and Contona had it all. That's why i have them as the best individuals. As players, they had no weaknesses that i ever saw.

Keane lacked technical ability which is vital for any footballer, and Scholes lacked tackling which is critical in midfield and why he got sent off so much. Giggs lacked nothing he needed to be a good winger though. He could dribble, he could cross, he could shoot, he could pass and he had pace to burn.

That's my logic anyway. No worries if you don't agree!

{Ed001's Note - Scholes could tackle but he got away with nasty fouls by pretending not to be able to. Keane was a far better player than you give him credit for. He certainly did not lack technical ability at all, he was also an excellent centre back. Giggs was not in the same league imo. He struggled with his passing and crossing, particularly in his early days.}

01 Mar 2018 11:32:37
I forgot about Schmiechal actually. I think it's fair to say he had every attribute a keeper needs, would you agree Ed001?

If i tell you who i thought Man United's best midfielder was of the last 20 years, I'm sure I'll be laughed at again, but i thought Carrick was better than Scholes or Keane. United were good with Scholes and Keane, but didn't really compete in Europe regularly despite it being quite weak aside from the Italian teams. Carrick took them up a level though and with him they were the strongest rivals to the great Barcelona team in a period where Inter Milan, Chelsea, Bayern Munich etc were also very strong. I don't even think Man United fans appreciate how good Carrick has been for them in the last 10 years. He would've made the difference for England if they'd let go of trying to put Lampard and Gerrard in the same team. Carrick played against Germany in Berlin when England beat them 2-1 around 2008-ish and he was Man of the Match. Then he barely got picked again inexplicably, until he refused call up after Capello didn't even play him once in the 2010 WC. I don't think anyone except Ferguson knew how good he was. He could do everything Scholes could, but he could read the game and tackle as well!

Pelters in 3, 2, 1-.

{Ed001's Note - Scmeichel was certainly excellent and the backbone to their team. Carrick was good but not Scholes or Keane good.}

01 Mar 2018 12:09:54
Every time i watched Carrick he was like a Rolls Royce, Ed. I think that might just be why i rate highest in a player; somebody who can make things look easy. That would explain why i rate the likes of Alonso and Carrick so highly. I've never really been an advicate of midfielders flying around the pitch jumping into tackles and being all action, but it is much more exciting to watch. I guess this is why football is a beautiful game. There are so many great players and everyone has their own preferences and opinions, which make discussion so interesting.

Look at other sports. Golf? Tiger Woods. Tennis? Roger Federer. Darts? Phil Taylor. F1? Michael Schumacher.

Only in football do you get so much debate. In other sports there always seems to be a clear stand out performer, but football can be interpreted in so many different ways because it is the most complex, popular team sport and there are so many ways to play the game.

Thanks for not just rubbishing my view on Carrick though Ed. If Scholes could tackle but just wanted to be nasty that is a shame, because he's done himself a disservice because history will remember him as a world class player who was rash in the tackle and got too many suspension's. I checked the figures and he is 5th most booked player in Premier League history with 97, 1st most booked in the Champions league with 32, and also got 4 red cards too! It's my only thing against him or else I'd say he was better than Carrick because his passing range was better and he couldn't half catch a volley on the sweet spot. I only had Carrick ahead because he offered more protection to his defenders than Scholes, and could pass better than Keane.

01 Mar 2018 12:19:49
We need to challenge the title next season or else they will move to another club, who will do it!

01 Mar 2018 12:37:13
I think Roy Keane is exactly what a lot of teams are missing now. He had the ability to do pretty much everything well, whilst driving his team and making sure they knew if they let the team down. Maybe over the top sometimes, but his ability to lead and make players want to give everything is what I think seems to be missing from the top premiership teams now. There’s not many real leaders left.

I think the whole show around his personality blinds people to how good a player he was. I read that Kenny saw how good he was before he moved to Utd as he desperately tried to sign him for Blackburn.

I would love a prime Keane in our midfield right now. Would you Ed?

01 Mar 2018 12:43:02
Cantona and Giggs were fantastic footballers but To say there were no weaknesses in those players games is being a bit easy on them. Cantonas weakness was that he was a hothead, he was a red card waiting to happen if things didn't go his way, and im not just referring to his kung fu kick.
Giggs is remembered in such a biased fashion, he had at least four or five years of average output at what should have been his peak years, it wasnt until he reached his 30's and adapted his game to play deeper that all this kudos came his way, i mean the guy won player of the year 2009 despite starting 11 games in the league which just smacked of him being rewarded for being ryan giggs rather than what he produced on a football pitch.

01 Mar 2018 12:48:10
Harry, next year is our year mate! I'm sure of it 👀.

01 Mar 2018 13:00:37
I agree with you smplfc. Although i think Keane was a touch over rated as an individual, I have always argued that he is the best captain of the Premier League Era for what he git out of his team mates. He is exactly what we are missing, for a start! He might be a total buffoon on the tele, and really bitter towards Liverpool, but he was the perfect leader and excellent at game management.

Semi by the sea, i think overall you were a little bit harsh on Giggs (when you play 20 years at the top, you have to expect the odd blip) but you are spot on about that 2009 award. It was a bit of a sham to be quite honest. He was well past his best by then and it was a bit like an early retirement present wasn't it 🤔.

01 Mar 2018 15:45:50
Gigs played for united. What are you talking about! Could never, will never pick a utd player. Gigs wasn't even their best player, Scholes was.

I wish to revise my list as I focused my attention on past players and forgot about Firmino.

Gerrard
Fowler
mcmanaman
Firmino
Owen.

01 Mar 2018 17:23:16
It was almost a lifetime achievement award for services rendered to football and manchester united, but i do concede that despite a few blemishes giggs was for the most part a great footballer and one of the best the premier league has seen.

01 Mar 2018 23:27:28
SS funny you just said AND I quote ;)
'What are you talking about! Could never, will never pick a utd player' yet you went and picked Owen! lol did he not play for utd?! You put 'him' over Torres? over Alonso (your favourite player out of him and Gerrard), Hyypia, Carragher, Suarez, Sturridge, Risse, Kuyt, Agger, Coutinho the list goes on. You go on about never picking a utd player and you just did, over Liverpool players who did some great things for us.

For ed001. What are your thoughts on parish? I allwsys thought he was a bit of tool but saw him on sly sports debate once and actuslly thought he had some good points to make. Changed my perception of him. Maybe im wrong. thoughts?

{Ed001's Note - he is a dick but that doesn't mean he has nothing relevant to say. Sometimes he does make good points.}

01 Mar 2018 13:02:54
So pleased for Charlton. Duchatelet has been terrible for them. A club that churns out talent like Shelvey, Gomez, Konsa and Lookman should not be struggling to get into and stay in the Championship. They are a brilliant club and i hope one day they are back in the top flight.

01 Mar 2018 14:43:28
some interesting points there especially regarding Gordon taylors salary, however the main question should be why does he get paid so much? I don't blame him personally as we would all love to get a big fat wage for doing very little, whoever decided to give him that wage should be answerable imo.
