Hi ed... ive had a little look around but cant really find anything.. obviously a striker is needed and through the year we have been linked to a couple such as De Jong etc, but with him looking likely to go to Germany and new management at Liverpool etc do you know who look like might be targets this summer?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - We will perhaps know better after the manager has assessed the players.}

Thanks ed

By the time brendan rodgers has assessed the squad, the only player left for lfc to buy are the scraps. Its very clever play by the owners to long it out as much as possible, really making the lfc fans look like fools, some will say man city havent bought anyone, true but did man city finish 8th? Are we really scrapping for sygurrdson, all this delaying we should have a better target ready to pick up and leave the guy thinking until end of the window, anyone sick
Of average players playing the waiting game with us? I can say unless lfc put in bids for top players, there is no top 4 hopes. If were goin for sygurdson, moses, and adam johnson, these owners have fooled you all. Ofcourse time will tell, i truly hope im wrong. Everything is in my favour tho, all us fans getting desperate on here becos we havent even attempted a bid for a top player, instead we get the same
Relly, br is assessing squad. Most fans could of assessed the squad for the last 3 years within a day.RedTurk

I for 1 hope we replace some (related to poor recomendations), expand and recruit more in our scouting department as we desperatley need to look at alot of our players in over the years. We can not compete with many of the rich clubs year in year out as we do not have that spending/wage power. I only hope we can unearth the next stars who are ready to play in the first team, there has been plenty over the years who have cost no where near the Carroll, downing and henderson fees (not a dig at the above lads just scouting), like hypia, anelka, Chikirito (man u lad), Hart, alonso, henry, viera, van persie (may be the arsenal team LOL), lampard, bale, agger, chamberlain, Fabregas the list is endless as I'm sure many people could add more.

I know we have suso and sterling etc coming through and I have no doubt they will be stars but I hope we could unearth those young stars that are 18-23 years old and don't hold a 20-30m price tag already. Hazard, Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez (Liverpool), Silva, Iniesta etc etc all came from some where before they were house hold names.

Fook it I say spend this year transfer budget on signing the Arsenal scouts LOL and throw some of those Newcastle ones in too.

How would I get a coach as a scout?

We have a deal in place with a Uruguayan team that enables us to have first dibs on talented youngsters. The scouting system are not doing badly at all hence our good youths, it is Damien Comolli mixed with Kenny Dalglish that didn't work.

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - Internacional. No quite "first dibs" on their youngsters, but an agreement the should benefit both sides.}

Isn't it a problem getting work permits from those countries. They always end up in spain because of the language and easy work-permit rules {Ed002's Note - There are, regardless of language, much stronger links with Italy interestingly.}

Same with Argentina i believe ed002, i'm not sure whether it's to do with past immigration from Italy to South American countries or what(lots of ARG and URU players with Italian names), but that would obviously mean a migration system would have been in place for quite a few decades, and it is apparently a slightly more relaxed one.

Also, Italian and Spanish people seem to understand each other just fine, on the language basis, that was Aquilani's one saving grace he said, was the spanish guys in the team helped him through the language barrier as he spoke very very little english.

"How would I get a coach as a scout?"

Thats a tad niave to think that Arsene Venger does the scouting for Arsenal. I'm sure they have a scouting department the same as every pro club and then he makes decisions from that after. So yes would still like some of those Arsenal scouts.

Leave jay spearing alone, he may not be the most gifted player in the world but he plays his heart out every game and he did have some excellent games last season, granted poor ones too but he in no way deserves the grief I have read on here. Support the lad.....
FowlerisGod

Jay Spearing has the wrong body type to be a player for us in that position. The last guy to be that short in our team was Micheal Owen.

Normally people like spearing are wingers or very fast forwards, but he ended up becoming a poor d/m in our team. His passing isn't world class so midfield would be the wrong place for him. I would of put him in carra old position, but he is too small to be a cbk. Its small man discrimination.

He doesn't pass the ball well enough to play in midfield, he isn't tricky/fast enough to play on the wings, he isn't fast goal scorer so can play up front. He isn't big enough to keep strikers out. He might be able to play as a Fullback and might not suck so much. I don't think height wold be such an issue or passing and he can already tackle and has a engine on him. I think he packs on too much muscle as a way to compensate for his height issues which makes him smaller

He is a nice guy and I hope the best for him. Sadly he is just not good enough and there is no hiding about that. Still an amicable professional though.

Jay plays for the shirt , and wears it with pride , its a pity that a certain icelandic player is not of jays calibre

To the first replier, who said, "I think he packs on too much muscle as a way to compensate for his height issues which makes him smaller".
That is one of the stupiedest things i've heard on here, and theres some pretty stupid people on this site so thats saying something. You obviously dont know much, Makelele, Mascherano and Deschamps are all as small as Spearing and have probably been 3 of the best in that postion in the last 15 years.

To the OP, i think the level of abuse Spearing has got has been outrageous, for a club whose motto is 'you'll never walk alone', some of the fans on here just dont get it. I dont think he showed a lot last year but he gave a lot more than most and surely that must count for something. When Spearing first came on the scene I thought he looked a good little player and was impressed with his passing. And he's tenacious. I personally would like to see go out on loan to a bottom half club and see him play with less pressure and reevaluate next summer.

Forgot to sign that last post.

He's not good enough, effort just isn't enough -fact

Can't get over how short sighted our fans our! Here on a night probably the greatest team ever have made history and shown a stunning example of football there idiots calling for Ramirez etc. yes the English players we've bought are questionable but it's the right direction. Xavi iniesta piqué the likes were given time to develop not shipped off after a season of game time. The English game is so short sighted, ever wondered why we are leagues behind the Germans and spaniards? Because we but foreign talent over our own, and the same thing goes for clubs the double European
Cup Ajax side of the 80s were all through there youth academy as are Barcelona and as were holland in the 70s the 'right' way to play takes years and that's what are fans need to realise.

Agree with a lot your saying mate. Although Pique was shipped off prematurely by Old honking purple nose before he turned into what he is today.

Chi-Paul

You wanna know why we are light years behind Spain and Germany? Because of the terrible training systems that basically teach people to hoof it up the pitch to a fast striker to run on to. Do Spain and Germany do that? Definitely not. In addition to this the youngsters get shouted at if they try a trick or if they try and dribble past someone. Do you think Messi or Iniesta or Ronaldo were ever shouted at for trying to take someone on? No they definitely weren't but in England they get shouted at and tell defenders to either hoof it out of play or smash it up the field.

English players from young ages aren't actually taught how to keep hold of the ball and how to actually pass to someone in space. Hell, they aren't even taught how to move into space. They are taught one way and one way only... ROUTE 1.

Also, these academy teams don't actually go for talent they prefer the physicality. I know a young kid who is extremely good at football but he was released from his academy team because he was too small. How ridiculous is that? Do you think that'd happen in Spain or Germany? Hell no.

The training and managing systems for young kids in this country are shockingly bad and until we fix all this we will continue to be behind all these passing and moving teams.

BthekingB

BthekingB, it all comes from the "win at all costs" attitude that's drilled into these guys(british) from a young age. When people come on here and say "they should be learning how to win from a young age", then in the next breath they say "England are hopeless, we need to play like Barca or the Spanish national team". Just contradicting themselves.

Pique was never "shipped off"! He was homesick and asked to leave.

Jamesmack8

Spot on m8. I was speaking with a guy in Holland (NAC fan) and he tells me that the kids at his club are there from the age of 5. They have over 40 youth teams of various ages.

They learn more kicking a ball about in the street than they do from "coaching" over here...

I know everyone says how much of a waste the money was on British talent last season but the owners are in the right direction how on earth do you think Spain and Barcelona are that good?! All they're or the majority of there players are home grown and are given time the English game is far too short sighted- to play football like the spaniards and Ajax and the holland team of the 70s the passing way is about focusing at home not spending extravagant money on foreigners. Yes the ability of downing and Henderson and co is at least questionable but Its the right direction so all you lot calling for massive money and on foreign players are just plain blind, xavi and iniesta were not bought for 100 of millions of pounds and given a few months to gel. Simples.

Buddy this is LFC not england national team

LFC have the backbone of a decent team and needed it in order to be on-going concern for the future.

That squad was full of 30 somethings, had been asset stripped by the time the americans turned up.

Konchesky 1981>Jose Enrique 1986
Milan Jovanovic 1981>Stewart Downing 1984
Ryan Babel 1986>Luis Suarez 1987
Fernando Torres 1984>Andy Carroll 1989
{Ed002's Note - I assume you don't know what "asset strpped" means.}

There is still two hours left so forgive me if this ends up as wrong but the Mirror put out an article on how to day was "D-Day" for Sigi and that he'll choose today.

This is a thing done by Papers which annoy me, If there right " we told you". If there wrong " we never said he would sign, we said he would DECIDE". These people know nothing but by making up crap it sells.

Tomorrow if I was a journalist I could put 2 and 2 together and get 17. Liverpool need a Winger name any striker in the world who had a decent season and hey presto. Headline. Liverpool in shock ___ move.

-McMenemy

Well we are all here because of that need to know something and the newspaper has been feeding that need for many years with roumours in a way websites like this have taken their role in our lives and provided the online banter over liverpool so called roumours doing the rounds. Now the paper has very little to say for themselves apart from the biggest roumours flying around. Honestly no ones anything apart from the management team at anfield, unless someone has decided to bug their phones again. I don't think the papers will tell us anything new

Don't bother getting annoyed by what some clueless hack pads the back pages out with.

I would just accept that Sigurdsson is joining Spurs. Whether we like it or not finishing 8th has harmed Liverpool just like our positions in the 2 previous seasons. We really need to show on the field for us to become a force again and not the history books. Spurs are currently better placed than us because they have a better style of play and more importantly better players. The question is can BR change this? I am sure he can with better purchases than Kenny.

They are also reporting we are to make a bid for Sinclair... Haven't we got a 12 month agreement with Swansea about no buying from them...

G BOX

Doesn't it all come down to wages and location. How much spurs are willing to pay a football player of his standard who hasn't done it week in and week out.

If they are over paying then let them and move on as a football club. Everyone forgets that Swansea are the true club that have been taken advantage of this summer. They lost their manager to us and now they will lose their star player to spurs.

If I was sig and here in England taking a english mans jobs from english person. Then I would of moved to London too. I heard London is full of foreign people in the region of 35% foreign. So he made his decision and moved to London Tottenham. It's a decent capital city with lots to do and he'll enjoy the bars, women and shopping. Plus more money in his back pocket. So everyone is happy. {Ed002's Note - It depends how far back you go but much of the English are full of foreign blood. We have to all live within a multi-cultural society. Many of the Eds, including me, are not English. Although I would like to get one of your nice passports. And a few of those nice English women - that would be cool.}

LOL, What does it mean to be English? Will Sig's children play for England in the world cup final? I was just wondering about this the other day. England is a rock positioned in a very poor location and has only become such a powerful country on the back of Empire (eg Slavery and integration of other races and resources ) poorly positioned rock

But now we get to a stage in Britain history where we import people as a resource base. Since the premiership started the country has decided to set a strategy of importing skilled labour/resources in a hope to improve the country. But does it?

The natural result is disadvantages of people who lived here before eg people that thought they might be able to play for their local football team one day. EG liverpool football club in the city of liverpool, but when they are importing talented people from around the world it looks like very poor odds. The same with jobs and other services which people born 3rd, 4th, 5th generations here.

So I wonder about integration of these people. I saw Peter Schmeichel Son Kasper at the Euro's with Denmark. Peter Schmeichel made his money with Manchester Utd for 20 years and still lives in Manchester. His son was conceived in the uk and he forced his wife to give birth in denmark before they came back to uk.

So Kasper could play for Denmark at international level. So how many of these great players have really integrated into the uk. Will we ever see Cantina's son in a England shirt or any of these great foreign imports.

Im not BNP english, but was born here and I am 4th generation of people that where born here in England, but I have roots to another country and we still marry people from that country and have traditions and cultures from that country. But I live here in England so I would play for the English national team if asked to.

But I don't think any of the foriegn imports would ever live here and think of this country as home. Its a pay cheque for them and I don't think that is being racist. The football of being a footballer in 1889 was one that would get you out of the ship yards or coal mines and help the common man live a live that was better. It was social hope for the working classes that one day their son could become a footballer and make it out of the coal mine. A social Lottery and not just a sporting event.

Answer questions with questions.

If you went to Italy as a 19yr old to play football, when you retired and had children while still living in Italy, also regardless of your wife's nationality, who would you like your children to play for? England, or Italy?

01 Jul 2012 22:24:31
What's happening with tello and affley ? I heard we already gave barca the money a long time ago ! {Ed002's Note - I am sure they will arrive any day now.}

Ibrahim Afellay has a lot of work to do on his game. From what i'v seen of him at the Euro's he is the best of a bad bunch in that Holland team. The question is if we will get him for 7million. He is able to beat a player but his crossing and shooting do need work and you have to wonder about his tracking back, stamina 90mins. Plus he had a very real and serious injury with his knee that has set him back years. He is at Baracelona but will he make it into that baracelona team. Well not really he has gotten to a stage where he needs to move on and he is a good player what I seen, but needs a stage to perform on. We he has hit 26 and hasn't made it with bara so they will sell him on and someone will benefit from his skills.

I do like him as a player and he has 4 seasons in him. Is he worth the money and the wages well I don't think so. We have two very good wingers on that side of the pitch. So why get a third.

I personally would get him, but then have a issue with placing him in the first team over downing and sterling. I on the other hand think sterling will be something special and has to allowed to step up that next level. I don't think downing is that great on the right.

Last I heard, they took a wrong turn at Toulouse and ended up in Khazakhstan. They did send a postcard before they entered Germany though. Apparently the view from the Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg is to die for.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Yeah, Barca packaged them up and sent them to us by cargo ship. Last I heard they'd been held hostage by pirates, but FSG wouldn't pay up as they couldn't agree on the pirates' valuation of the players. Expect to receive them piece by piece in the post between now and the start of the season...

I heard they got caught at imagination and can't get out of airport jail

Totally made up for Xabi, Pepe, Arbeloa and I suppose Torres. Fantastic performance and a joy to watch. We can play like that any time Brendan feels like it; pass and move, didn't we used to do that?
ND

Must be the most hollow medal pepe has ever won cos he's done nothing to deserve it. {Ed002's Note - You want to make sure your fag telling Reina that is ready for next season. Why not try to force him to give it back through some FAcebook campaign. I truly feel sorry for the Liverpool players.}

Hush up muppet, everyone in the squad plays there part, not just in the tourney but the qualifiers too... I read some were Spanish players said Pepe is a massive influence in the dressing room... See the support he gave torres when he scored, maybe you should try it... Clueless mug

G BOX

West ham Green could of gotten a medical if england where good enough. But the point he is trying to make is that Renia would of been first team choice is he was playing for Real Madrid or Bara which are both Spainish teams. I remember Fabregas sitting on bench because he was a Arsenal player and now at this torment he is played as striker. He is now in the spain and people expect him to play.

Renia is good enough to play in any team and is best offensive goal keeper in the game. If they play a high line, renia would be great at being a sweeper.

So you have to wonder how much he is hurting himself and his career by being out of champions leauge and away from spain.

Don't think it would matter. Casillas isn't going anywhere for a while. Valdez suffers from the same thing. Spain are just lucky that they have three outstanding goalies with one in the driving seat, and probably correctly. Love Pepe and think he's fantastic but the Spanish are probably right in playing the captain is almost every game. What a great position to be in from their point if view. Tough for Pepe but being with us makes no odds as far as the nation team goes, in this particular case anyway. Agree about Fabregas though.

I'm happy for these 4 ex-Liverpool.Torres should have scored not pass.Anyway who's the top scorer at euro12?

"4" ex Liverpool players ?

Arbola?!

1) Xabi
2) Torres
3) Arbeloa
4) Reina ?

Reina isnt an ex player as far as i know

JW

Several players with 3 goals each incl Torres and Balotelli. If Torres had gone and scored the 4th instead of passing to Mata, he'd have been the leading scorer.
Faro08

Torres gets the golden boot thanks tp his 3 goals and one assist,same record as germanys gommes but torres spent less tim on the pitch.
if you had a bet on ,most bookies will pay on golden boot winner,rather then splitting the odds on three or four players that got three goals.

I think Torres will be back to the player he was at Liverpool next season at Chelsea - sadly.

Somehow Liverpool need too get back into the champions league so we can attract a better quality of player.

We need to dump this 'British' player model because its ineffective

Agree about the British player part.

The amount we spent on British players last season was phenomenal. It just hurts me to think of the foreign talent we could have bought with the money.

Wrong, wrong & wrong again...

Torres will never be back... He won't lose his finishing, but he will never get his pace back... Put my upfront for Spain I would have scored in the euros lol

Torres will be a great player in Bara's team...lol {Ed049's Note - you mean Boro?}

Out of curiosity, anyone know the pre-tournament odds for Torres winning the Golden Boot? {Ed042's Note - 16-1}

Thanks for the response, Ed. Surprised it was that low, honestly.

Any chance of us signing that Fernando Torres fella Eds? Never heard of him before, but he looks like a class act.

Did anyone see Reina kiss Torres when he scored?
It could be a return! Lol!

The only thing that's returning is torres's form

Does anyone know if there is any chance someone will take Spearing off our hands. If he gets £200 a week its way too much. There are better footballers on signing on i'd say

Always good to hear from a 'supporter' I must be old school or something, but I actually get behind the people in my team. {Ed002's Note - We should have you stuffed and put on display.}

Jovetic rumour is a message to Gylfi about our offer - take it or leave

All rumours are around a second striker / no 10 / CAM or whatever you want call it nowadays

Jovetic / Gylfi / Sturridge / Moses / Davies / Muniain / Ramirez and so on

All are the same type of player ? Why when we have one of the Top 5 second strikers in the world - Suarez

Everyone knows we lack a finisher - we don't have an issue in creating chances

After losing Kuyt and Ngog you can have a squad with just 2 strikers / goal scorers

Leam Red
I don't think BR is going to play the pure Spanish style tika-taka {Ed042's Note - how many strikers/goal scorers have spain got playing tonight in their Tika-Taka style play?}

Didn't finish the post - I don't think BR is going to play the pure Spanish style tika-taka without the out and out finisher
It will take 2-3 years to perfect that style

But I hope you appreciate the point that we may only sign one off these players not all like some suggest
In answer to the eds question - 1 and he just scored

To be fair Ed, you can only get away without a striker when your other players are that good

Thanks {Ed016's Note - It's funny, I would bet not today.)

question for the eds :)

will we tie up all our signings (for once) before we go on tour? i think its really important so our team can at least start to gel and get some sort of team chemistry going? just seems daft waiting to the end of the trasfer window. cheers

LFC WOOZ28 {Ed016's Note - Of course I believe it is always a goal to get business done fast, but you need the best deal so it can drag on for a while. We're talking about massively intricate contracts and deals.}

And let's not forget he is going to need some time to assess the players at the way he wants to play, so in reallity mate we could be looking at the next transfer window before we really see big changes made. the Euros and olympics are going to cause problems for him and the then our euro games start early.
RNred

Cheers ed16 :) just hope to see some exciting signings an not free transfers that we are getting linked to! if we want to attract top class players we need to keep hold of the likes of suarez, i just hopw we are setting our sights a little bit higher than some of the names getting dished out on here! personally if we could offload the obvious players aqua, cole and pacheco, i would be more than happy with a young promasing young right winger and a top young striker who knows where the net is. Brendon rodgers needs time to analyise all his players so if a striker an a right winger was brought in i would be more than happy :)

01 Jul 2012 19:50:53
Hi eds, just a quick question, I've been reading your answers about Stevan jovetic, you seem unsure over him, your normally quick to rule people out if we have no chance. Is it me or are you holding back? Is there interest?

Lee the red {Ed016's Note - I believe it is just a Twitter rumour. Unfortunately that leads me to believe that it is just a recycled rumour from way back when Rafa was in charge and he was interested in him.}

Does rodgers want to keep Glen Johnson eds?

Thanks

Ed do you think that we haven't signed any players yet because we were waiting for the international transfer market to open and also what area do you think needs the most reinforcements on our team. {Ed049's Note - Possible,Well I think we need an attacking midfielder,striker and 1 winger}

What about another Left back Ed? Dagger had to play there last season,maybe some cover?
RNred {Ed042's Note - it is possible}

01 Jul 2012 19:44:38
Just wondering eds would there be any strikers out there that would actually look at the way Liverpool played last season.I mean to say any striker worth his salt would realize that the amount of chances created and if they know there own strengths they would know that they could become a legend.Well this will help them 1 Get more wages bonuses etc
2 Get more recognised get to go to the euros/world cup etc.
Just a thought hope we dont get rid of suarez though and sign up a striker like higuan

01 Jul 2012 19:40:31
I hope we dont loose out on Ramirez because we've wasted this much time trying to sign Sigurdsson. He is many many levels above him and I dont think anyone can argue (if youve seen Ramirez play).

01 Jul 2012 19:18:53
Hi Eds and Reds,

Please post!
Got this from a good source:

BR is waiting for assessing the squad before letting anyone leave the project...

The only player who can arrive before the assessment is Gylfi.(of course if he chooses us...).

My source also told me,that BR boosted Sigurðsson wage demand,but he didn't match what Spurs are offering...
Only Sig knows who he'll choose,so some posters can STOP BS!

The source also told me,that BR isn't a fan of slow and lazy players.(mainly forwards)...
This is the reason why,he(BR) never pushed for getting L.De Jong also this may be a stumbing block for getting Ramirez as he does'nt work too much when off the ball...
He really rate PACEY forwards who work hard off and with the ball...

Suárez is likely staying,
also very very strong interest in Victor Moses...

A.Johnson,Sturridge,Jovetic,etc... rumours, aren't true...

I love this group. And I come here almost every day. I love the Ed's responses too, sort of like Comedy Central.

But judging by what I've seen lately, it's going to be a long summer.

People on this site live in dreamland. My dads mate knows BR and he's told him were getting ronaldo and messi etc. Please just post what you think you would like to happen not what you know cos along with 99% ofeople on here just post fantasy football teams, no one knows who are targets are not even the eds so stop posting bull **** . Rant over

----------------

1.It is a rumour site
2.Dont think i remember the Eds stating definite targets, quite the opposite, from the point of view that they "put out" what they know but even they cant predict an outcome from that.No one can.
3.I think its fair to say that the Eds info is not crystal ball prediction materials, but more what they believe, and if your honest the info they provide (and the cryptic banter) is more accurate than the 99% of us you refer to,
4. As an avid fan of this site, (rated No1 and the viewing figures must reflect it) and i look at most sites, and foreign papers believe me this site contains the "better contents".
5. We need to remember the actual number of topics and other team sites here also. There is a big job being done here and I for one certainly appreciate it.
6, Lastly, I know know one who knows anything and thats why i always pop in here, like most of us i assume.
7, My rant over (keep smiling)

Just for fun, my best 11 of the Euros so far, played as a 4-3-3 is:
Casillas
Debuchy
Hummels
Agger
Coentrao
Modric
Pirlo
Moutinho
Ronaldo
Iniesta
Dzagoev

Chris in Tamworth {Ed049's Note - I would put Gerrard in place of Modric and Alba in place of Coentrao}

I would have abate at RB top player.

Mighty reds

Montilivo's looked quality, swap him for Mountiho.

What Chris ? No Rooney ? :-)

Red Derry

Sorry, I wanted to do it originally and I didn't but after the final Xavi must be in any team. Take out whoever you like

Chris in Tamworth

Xabi Alonso has to be in there. Phenomenal.

I'd just have the Spain team - no changes required. Maybe Stevie G for Fabragas, but that's it.
ND

I've read loads of Euro dream teams, and nobody has any Spanish defenders. Can't understand why. They've won the tournament, conceding just the one goal. And I can't remember them getting found out. Ramos and Piqué have both been immense. Arbeloa and Alba brilliant modern fullbacks.
Spain are so good going forward that it seems people forget how good they are at the back!
Joe

Debuchy? Abate has been 10x better. Debuchy is pretty average. Dzagoev shouldn't be there either. He didn't actually play well he was just in the right place at the right time.

BthekingB

You have got to be kidding right, how has jordi alba not been in anyones? easily player of the tournament for me. looks like hes going to be a world class wing back. can defend. is quick. can cross and create goals. and as showed last night can score. another player barca are going to get surprisingly. {Ed049's Note - I had Alba in my team.}

does anyone have the feeling that gylfi is heading our way :/ strange !! {Ed049's Note - me}

Just seems strange if he had a medical and fee agreed a few days ago for spuds what's the hold up? Maybe it's the Sunday thing but something funny going on

I think that's why thing's are still quiet, if he chose tottenham the news would have been plastered everywhere by now.

Tell you what is strange, the fact that nothing has been announced today about Spurs. I thought that if he was going there then we would have heard something by now, I'm not saying that he is coming to us but I do find it a bit weird.

I don't reckon AVB is as nailed on as the press would have everyone believe. It was "he could be announced in 48 hours", then Le Blanc quits France and its all quiet. I read somewhere that AVB would lose £10m (or something like that) if he took the Spurs job. Presuming he'd want to ensure his package covered that cost, would 'skint' Spurs want to cough up that much if they could get Le Blanc for less? If true, it might also explain FSG's reluctance to even interview him for the Liverpool job...

Hi Eds and fellow readers, what a great site. There is some real interesting posts on here. I must check around 20 times a day! Anychance just a thought really. I know that we were interested in Erik Lamela before he joined Roma..would he be of interest now?

When does pre-season start Ed when do all the players report back for training. {Ed049's Note - I'm not too sure maybe this coming week}

Adam Morgan on twitter said this Thursday is when they start training. Assuming he is with the first team squad for pre-season, or all will be due in on the same day, perhaps extended leave will be given to those who competed at the Euros? I realise it is tw*tter, but still from Morgo. Hope he gets a run about in preseason games like Raheem and Conor did last year.

01 Jul 2012 18:25:58
So from what i can tell we have jovetic on the way from fiorentina 22m and ramirez 19.4m from bologna and possibly sigurddson for 8.5m If this is the case and we sign all three do you think there will be many more signings

Jovetic is about as far away from joining Liverpool as humanity is landing on Neptune

Your very gullible mate. We may get Sigurdsson but no bid has been made fro Ramirez or Jovetic.

If we got all three we're set attacking wise. I'd still hope for a defensive midfielder and lots of outs including Cole, Aqilani, Spearing, Adam and maybe a couple others.

Papa G

That's going to happen eventually

We won't be getting any of them sadly!

01 Jul 2012 18:24:22
I know that there has been this supposed gentlemen's agreement with Swansea but had it not been for that do you think brendon rodgers would have brought some of the swansea players with him and if so who? {Ed049's Note - Allen and Sinclair would of been an upgrade on what we have at the moment,add Dyer as well}

Imo Dyer,Sinclair and Allen would be good buys for you and maybe Vorm if Reina left {Ed049's Note - Matter of opinion}

No way would sinclair be an upgrade. not good enough in my opinion. maybe dyer and allen. im actually glad we have that agreement with swansea. we need top 4, not top 10. come on br bring back the glory days

Wow....

I don't believe anyone has said we are getting Messi or Ronaldo...... and I believe you are clearly missing the point of a RUMOURS site.... it is where rumours get posted. Maybe you need to find a website called Liverpool facts?

Just saying

It's a rumours site, not a preferences site.

01 Jul 2012 18:12:19
Hello Eds,
I know it's early days in the transfer window but have you heard that any of Johnson, Pepe, Charlie, Luis or Martin Skrtel actually want to leave Anfield? And will Rogers want to get his targets ASAP (this month?) or the deals will go on right to the wire? thanks. {Ed049's Note - It's impossible to predict the timing of the deals}

01 Jul 2012 18:01:41
Sick and tired of people making this Sigurdsson ,Siggy, the Sig a souch a big deal . Its becoming like the idiotic Hazard saga.

Totally agree mate,he is a good player but nothing special and some fans are making him out to be messi or something its mad.

01 Jul 2012 17:48:28
Hi Eds and fellow reds... Im willing to bet nothing will be resolved with Sig'son today (sunday), ala all the already confirmed transfers ie Hazard, Marin, Podolski etc etc not going through cos its Sunday. Monday will be the day of reckoning. Also although I am a little frustrated that 'targets' are slipping away or have gone, people should not be so quick to slag off the people we are linked with, and be a little more realistic. After all look what happened last time we spent big, thus far they have all failed to deliver anything near what we paid for them, so maybe buying players at 6-7 million and a couple of freebies might work out well. Van der Vaart didnt cost the earth, nor Demba Ba, Cabaye or P. Cisse. Plus I think Rogers will maybe be more able to control and get the best out of players that are not over hyped and maybe up their own ar*e. That said it would be nice to get a top player or 2. Fingers crossed, and lets hope this all quiet front from LFC is just how we do things under FSG. I can remember LFC signing players and they would drag on for weeks in the public/ press eye, that was one of Rafa's gripes we didnt move quick enough. Keep things under wraps and then boom announcement targets in the bag... Well hopefully.

a view from the otherside, its been said that most spurs fans dont want gylfi sigurdsson seems to be true! it could be that the club may also be of the same oppinion as the fans? as reports are that the father of cska moscow's alan dzagoev has confirmed reports that his son's reps & club are in tentative talks with spurs over the purchase of his son? also with avb arriving and wanting moutinho would there be room for sigurdsson?

Spurs are slating liverpool fans on sly web i never hated them but i do now saying how we r going downwards and they r on the up its their time and s**te like that. like what have they won f--k all wouldnt like to c them win something they r big heads the southern Man Utd without the trophys.

Lol you akways have to drag United in to your own little problems how are we big headed if anything you are still thinking you can sign the likes of Jovetic and muniain

"southern man utd without the trophies"
That's exactly how I've been describing spurs for years.

Hi eds great site.i just want to bring up Moses I don't get all the haters if Liverpool did sign him I'd be happy the kids still only 22 and already has pl experience and most of all pace fair enough he doesn't score many goals but like I said he's 22 and lots of potential give him a chance thanks.db

But scoring goals is our problem, and Moses won't solve that.

Fair point but would he be the main cf striker id see him more of a wide man myself

Let me start like this most of the fans on this site are MUGS and not the sort with handles pisses me off most of time when i come on the site i know edd 002 has a shrink to keep him sane and how many of you edds have developed grey hair since running the site i know i gave edd 001 a couple haha anyway my point is evrybody saying we need this player and that player sort it out lads last season we lost gerrard for half a season lucas for half the season and suarez for a long period hit the woodwork so many times and missed so many penaltys i have a feeling 1 or 2 will be bought in but not the sort evrybody wanting somebody young and exiting will be bought in and if rogers can break this woodwork hoodoo kenny bought to the club and keep the team fit for full season then i KNOW we will be ok and other teams know this and thats why there scrambiling trying to sort out there problems i really do think rodgers will bring a young and exiting winger and sort out what needs sorting CANT Wait FOR SEASON TO KICK OFF CMON LIVERPOOL. STEMLOCC1 {Ed049's Note -

So what your saying is all other teams are signing players and improving there teams just because we hit the woodwork and were unlucky in a couple of games,if thats what your saying you need to sort your head out lad and get a realitty check. Every team gets injured players and goes through unlucky spells,last season we finished 8th because we were crap in lots of games and the sooner fans like you realise were not the team we once are the better. SAV

Your in the mug club too matey!

I agree with your point here mate

Haha you nameless posters are the MUGS listen lad we were sooooo unlucky last season like i said ya clown if rodgers can keep the team fit stop the woodwork bull cr1p and add 1 or 2 younger talents then we will be a force Edd plz post it just a question he can answer. STEMLOCC1 {Ed049's Note - There was no need of that insult, I hope you know what I'm referring to.}

I had a feeling when Brendan Rodgers took over that he was gonna be bad news for us.

When Kenny was in charge we were linked with Llorente, Soldado, Munian, Tello, M Suarez etc. Top players.

Now we are being linked with De Jong, Sigurdsson, Diame, Traore, Davies, Davis, Bendtner etc. Its a joke.

And of those shockingly average players we've lost out on Diame to West Ham, Sigurdsson to Spurs. Traore to Anzhii.

rodgers couldnt even convince 3 of his former players to come to us. Borini, Sig and Caulker.

Next season is gonna be the hardest season weve ever faced in the premiership.

We are stuck with Adam, Downing, Henderson and Carroll. Spearing and Shelvey are not even Championship quality. It looks like Reina, suarez, Johnson, Agger and Skrtel could be off. Kuyt is gone, Maxi and Bellamy will follow.

Im honestly dreading next season, We could easily be in a relegation fight if we dont sort things out fast

Rodgers need to either sort it out or get out

Michael YNWA {Ed049's Note - sigh...}

You condridicted your self by bigging up kenny then slating his signings and have we got any of them players you mentioned? Which is also newspaper crap man up and stop moaning

I had exactly the same feeling and unfortunately: I think we are right.

Oh Christ, you really are a moron.

Phukkit

Michael YNWA if you are not happy and not going to support the team go and be a city or chelsea glory hunter. SAV

Absolute sh*te. Although the guy above's post isnt the most literate, i think the point he is trying to get across is something you and alot of other "fans" on this site should read.

Strabs {Ed049's Note - he is just panicking}

He will find it hard to please the likes of you, with all of 18 hours of the transfer window gone! What did you expect to be done by now? Personally, I am happy to give BR a fair crack of the whip, as I am FSG - and that means longer than 1 day of the transfer window being open. Relax a bit fella, you'll need medication if you keep on like this.

Nick {Ed049's Note - exactly my point}

Michael, please, please, PLEASE walk alone...we don't need such negative people supporting our great club. Not a ball has been kicked in training or in anger, and yet you have the insight that everything BR does is wrong already. Thanks, but no thanks.

Jog-on and support a team more suited to your style of team following.........Man City........Chelsea.......or the next club to be taken over by billionaires that don't live in the real world.

Sort what out??

Pre-season hasn't started yet - he'll assess the squad over the next few weeks and dip into the transfer market accordingly.

It's the first day of the transfer window, did you expect him to have broken records before the first day is out?

If so you're an idiot.

If not you're still an person for posting that rubbish.

Joe

No matter who you were linked with only M.Suarez would join Liverpool the rest are far fetched to say the least

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, Michael... Michael, Michael, Michael... Glad to have you as a supporter, NOT.

And on the first official day of the transfer window opening you get to start reading b****cks like this. It will be a long summer if all Liverpool fans behaved like you. Have some bloody patience and faith.

Jay92

We are only linked with these players according to papers, no bids have been made.

Same way we were only linked to those players with Kenny. However, if you wish to abuse our manager before he makes any impact in the squad remember this, he inherited all those players you don't like from Kenny.

Fair play to Ed049. My 'sigh' would have included a fair few expletives. Like - 'sigh, what a k#%b jockey...' {Ed049's Note - haha}

Yes agree it's amazing how far Kenny has took the club backwards in just 12 month's with his signings, and by the way don't believe all the roumers you read most of them are cr@p.

Red1

Good to c your willing to give the man a chance, the club would be better off without ur negative vibe so piss off go support city they have plenty of money to spend on the fanasy football you want the window is just open by the way.

So your point is whaT?? who signed the players were stuck with!! being linked and actually getting are two different things. he is the best signing the club has made in years... its only the 1st of july and people complaining.. get a grip!!!!

Ed's can't you add the category of Bellend and I suspect the posters would get the most hits on this when they talk such negative drivel.

Evo YNWA {Ed049's Note - I wish I could}

no liverpool fan would ever post this.

This guy put exactly the same post on a couple of days ago under the name Mikey B. Got the same response then as he has now, so I don't think he's worth the effort of talking to as he's obviously terminally depressed. Are you really Marvin the Paranoid Android?

"Life, don't talk to me about life...." lol

01 Jul 2012 16:50:49
To the posters talking about the Sigurdsson apparent turn around. Don't make out its your own info, it's from an Icelandic Journalist called Brynjar Ingi Erluson and yes he has posted it on twitter. He has said it is coming from "someone close to Gylfi" I personally think he's Spurs bound now but to see what he has been saying from him and not the posters below, take a look at @brynjarerluson.

There is a lot of rubbish on Twitter as the Ed's point out but there are a few journalists worth following (I have no idea about this guy I was thinking more of the Echo, Times, Guardian, Independent and BBC ones) and not all of it is wrong/bad.

Teejay

Ok, I checked out the Twitter page and did some digging & Brynjar Ingi Erluson does appear to be an Icelandic journo with Fotbolti.net. His tweets are a bit confusing and even conflicting, but he seems to believe more info will be revealed tonight / tomorrow. He reckons the Agent (Barnett) is the one pushing for the bigger pay deal (with Spurs), but Sigs wants to team up with BR. One way of corroborating his claims would be to see if Sigurdsson really was playing in a golf tournament in Iceland yesterday (which is where he claims he was)

Just in case anyone is wondering why LFC today is so far behind the likes of Man Utd, Arsenal etc, here is an apt paragraph that puts it all into context:

Currently reading Brian Reade's book: Epic Swindle, 44 months with a pair of cowboys.

Interesting bit about David Moores when he was chairman at LFC:

"As a senior Anfield source put it: 'With David it was all about having an easy life. Not because he was a bad person, and certainly not because he didn't care about Liverpool. But because all he wanted to do was turn up, park his car, have a smoke in the boardroom, go to the match, be around the players and the club, and go back home. If you confronted him with a problem he'd wave you away with the words 'see Rick'...

I'm not having a go at David Moores, he is a very decent guy who always had the best interests of LFC at heart, but I feel today with FSG, realistically it will be another 5-7 years before we are truly challenging for the title year in, year out, and thats being very realistic. DM could and should have got some more commercial minded people in alongside Rick Parry, but I guess he was laid back and wanted an easy life.

The two cowboys put us even further back.

And the 88m he got to sell his soul to the devil went down well to. did he even check them out r could he notwait to get his money best interest in the club aye. Tommy Irish Red,

Tell us what we dont know,old news albeit true

01 Jul 2012 16:58:08
So everyone is spreading the rumour originating from Iceland that we have upped the wages on offer to match Spurs for Sigurdsson.

The reason Spurs are splashing the cash is that they are expecting investment from somewhere in the middle east. That is also the reason why Gareth Bale is still there and his new contract has broken the wage cap they had in place.

If they've got money burning a hole in their pocket that's fine, we don't need to match them. I hope Liverpool make a stand on these issues - we are Liverpool, it's a privilege to play here, we'll pay you what you're worth and if you do well then your wages will match that. If you want a big pay day before you've earned it go elsewhere.

That's the reason we get lumbered with useless players earning a high wage.

Also is no one else concerned that Sigurdsson is only 22 and has been at a load of clubs already?

I don't think many people realise how rich the owners of Spurs are - they aren't skint!

Nick

01 Jul 2012 16:57:23
Will fans please stop being so unrealistic we will not get Jovetic 20+million he is out of our league same goes for Muniain are you joking around 30+million and he will end up at Barca probably no chance for us why do we persist in thinking we are a great club atm yes in the past we were but now our pulling in the transfer market is none existent we have no champions league football and we probably wont get it for a bit yet

is it true that sigudson will be revealing wich team he is signing for today out of either us or tottenham??
keep it up eds great job

We have matched his wage demands and matched tottenham price there were going to pay,so he has decided to join us,. I hope all the fuss is worth it. Lee

Maybe if we are really lucky he will do it via twitter

01 Jul 2012 15:55:37
hi eds. ive been reading a lot of rumours about lfc wanting jovetic. i think he is very talented but i dont see him hacking premierleague football, also they want too much for him. y take the risk for someone who is worth 25million apparently when you can risk 6-8 million on someone like afellay or elia. thank your doing a brilliant job:) {Ed005's Note - Personally think Jovetic is a level above Afellay or Elia.}

Why not get him and affelay, they play different positions dont they?

01 Jul 2012 15:52:14
Think its quite simple regarding Siggurdson, he wants to come to Liverpool and we are using that as a means to keep the transfer fee down with Hoffenheim. This tactic was used successfully to bring Morientes to the club even though Monaco were prepared to pay Madrid a higher transfer fee, the player said he would only sign for Liverpool. I think it saved the club £2 miilion pounds. Hoffenheim might not be bullied in the same way but if he was going to Spurs he would already be there. Liverpool are working in the background to make the signing happen.

If he does arrive , let's hope he is as good as Morientes then .........

01 Jul 2012 15:39:38
Finally now the REAL transfer window is open

01 Jul 2012 15:37:44
i wish that Sigurdsson would hurry up and chose which team he wants to play for next season so we can move on if picks us or if he doesn't. pre season training needs to come quick so Rodgers can access what he has at the club and what else he needs at the club.

Confirmed from a very good source!
Liverpools main targets:
Jovetic
Sturridge
Adam Johnson
Sigg
expect just one from Adam Johnson/sturridge.
I for one would prefer sturridge.
Rodgers' plan is to have jovetic up front with Suarez moving to a wider striker role.

My source also comfirmed that a bid for munien is being put together. L,pool are stalling on the asking price.

Pls post!

Roman must be financier?

There is no chance that Muniain would ever join Liverpool ...... End of discussion

Eds, I genuinely have a feeling that Pepe will leave, although Lloris would be an amazing replacement

Reina is desperate to leave ............

IMO, Lloris is better than Reina so hopefully we can get him in!

Reina should leave he needs champions league football

Reina loves living in Liverpool fools

01 Jul 2012 14:42:07
I have never had any doubts over the issues surrounding GS.....As it now appears, he will choose which club he wants to join, and i have always suspected all along he would join Liverpool

BR knows him well and would have spoken to him a few times. People slating him for going to spurs for money are about as bright as a 1 watt light bulb

When it is finaly made known where he will be going, i think you will find it be Liverpool. I might be wrong but i think he would have had some good dialogue with BR and the club

Leave the lad alone and lets see what happens

Well said mate!

The fact is reina has not been good enough the past couple of seasons,he doesn't save shots that are not straight at him,I believe he should go and we should make a move for mandanda

The last couple of seasons? Bit of an over exaggeration ?

I'm sorry to shatter peoples illusions here, but this Jovetic nonsense came from a guy on twitter claiming that a (real) Italian journo had confirmed our bid of 22 million. The owner of the twitter page then went on to admit it was a fake and laugh at how gullible people are. THAT, my friends, is how easy it is to whip people into a frenzy via twitter.
Don't shoot the messenger, just trying to spare you all a little heartache.

Yep , but people are still believing it :-)

Steven Davis (Rangers) and Mark Davis (Bolton) Both linked with LFC. BR please go for better. We need quality not this dross, run of the mill players.

I agree up to a point but who had heard of Gylfi Siggurdson before last season and would we be interested if it wasnt for 2+2 meaning the manager is familiar with him. It seems that signing him has become an obsession with some people. We should be looking at players who will put us back at the big boys table I agree but lots of good players move to big clubs and dont perform. Liverpools recent history is littered with them.

Well personally I think Mark Davies would be a decent Super-sub for us, very good dribbler and a lovely shot!

Lol! Every player is good quality as long as they do not come from the british isles.

Actually pretty much everyone had heard of Gylffi Siggurdson as he played for Reading before moving to Hoffenheim and was linked to top clubs in the Premiership then

01 Jul 2012 13:58:15
when can we expect to hear sigurdssons decision?

I reckon he's waiting for AVB to be confirmed as Spurs boss and perhaps speak with him first and see if he's really in his plans. Otherwise, why not make your mind up when you wake up first thing in the morning? What else is going to change before the end of the day?

eds and reds
My beloved Liverpool football club is going through a bit of a rough patch at the moment, and it hurts me to say this. But we have some really F****** up supporters.. So much hate in them and no love.
Week in week out we sing a song called YOU"LL NEVER WALK ALONE. We are loved by millions and ENVYED by alot of other clubs. yet the haters are killing us. what happened to YNWA sticking together. all i read everyday on this site is FSG is S*** this Player is S*** .Example ...sig should sign with spurs coz if he comes to us .. he will just get abused by the so called plastic supporters of this awesome club ..
i might get some abuse for this post but if i got u to read it all . i have given u hope

Dman

Mate all that you say is true

But as supporters we must have the freedom to question the direction the club is going in and the motives of the owners.

Support another team then Dman

Personally I love this site also, but the views of a lot of people on here, especially the 'no named' internet pilots who have a go at our club, our players and dare I say it 'Our Eds'............are DEFINITELY not real supporters.

They troll the internet to cause mayhem and offer sometimes slanderous comments about anyone.

They are not true LFC supporters.

True LFC supporters show passion, pride, common sense, razor sharp wit, humour ... but most of all ...respect for everyone.

The qualities you refer to are not the qualities I would define as being inherent in real LFC supporters.

Maybe its just the society we live in these days.....

Fans of every club believe themselves the best most loyal fans in the world. But all clubs have their fair share of in-house hecklers.

Liverpool fans are not immune from been t**ts, we have plenty of plastics in our ranks and there always has been. We have always moaned, always criticised, we can be unreasonable just like any other set of fans, we can demand too much, we can be impatient, frustrated, we can be obnoxious, abusive, ignorant and intolerant, truth is we are just typical football fans, except for some reason our idealist found a higher horse to ride.

Supporting Liverpool or any football is not privilege, it is a right made by choice, some self exalted supporters may deems other not worthy, but their self inflation has no say in the matter!

Is it true that Sigurdsson still hasnt decided who he will join? are Liverpool still in the frame?

He will go to a club that has bid for him

01 Jul 2012 13:35:37
Hi EDs,
just a quick question RE Sigurdsson, (I know you're sick to death of them at this stage!)
Since LFC haven't agreed a fee with Hoffenheim, how would it be possible for Sigurdsson to "choose" us above spurs? Surely, the fact that LFC are not willing to meet the players perceived valuation would count us out of the running for him?
Thanks
Pat the Baker {Ed002's Note - Obviously if no fee has been agreed Liverpool is not an option for him.}

Could a fee being agreed, but both clubs have decided to keep it quiet

JW

Where has it been stated that Liverpool won't meet his valuation? I thought we just wouldn't agree to his wage demands?

We dont know anything because we dont need to enough of the speculation he will sign or he wont.lets just spend the next two days talking up rodgers because my god if he could read half of this crap he would probably rather of stayed where he was

01 Jul 2012 13:35:08
Could the ed's please clarify is it Twitter that they have issues with or just certain people on Twitter? I only ask because I follow various people for news, transfers etc. And have very few issues. Some are even quicker breaking stories than the likes of sly sports or the BBC. Surely it is still a form of social media that we need to sift through & chose to believe those that can substantiate their story (not unlike this site) TNC saying sources in Italy have reported lfc agreed fee for jovetic

M15rk {Ed002's Note - I have never looked at Twitter.}

01 Jul 2012 13:21:11
Summer actually looks ambitious so far with Gaston, Jovetic, Vargas linked! Quite frankly I'd be happy with just those three!

I'd be happy with one but, I'll guarantee we end up with players prepared to except a wage lower than the combined average of the top six clubs.

Eds, do you think that Danny Wilson will be seeing more 1st team action next season or is he likely to be loaned out again?

How did he do while out on loan?

Not too great at Blackpool, barely played towards the end of the season, ed001/007? may be able to give a better review on his performances when played...
Personally I think he'll be sold/loaned as Wisdom and Sama are better IMO.

I get so stressed with fans now days. When did we become a club that felt sorry for other clubs. If gylfie signs for spurs so what, we should respect people more to many arm chair fans with a FIFA attitude.

Scouse ben

01 Jul 2012 12:54:53
Personally I'm glad this Glyfi saga is going to be finished. No way to predict what he may decide but for me it's a matter of integrity. As I'm sure his father advised, he would be wise to build on his relationship with BR and progress to build a fan base where he will be adored..but sadly those sorta characters-the ones with heart if you may Gerra, Xabi, Torres- are rare and money talks with some and they'll choose to chase it until they realize that's all they have left at the end. Some with heart and integrity lose their way like el nino and I can forgive it bc he gave his all to the Reds for a while, and some have integrity but express that by being an a-hole like Suarez but still respect it bc it's consistent and heck we enjoy a bad boy here once in a while. If GS chooses Spurs I'll just feel sorry for him bc he'll piss away his integrity and it's not like he even followed his heart initially so bottom line he doesn't have 'it' and we don't want him.

My worst fear is that we are turning into chelsea with this flavor of the week musical chairs circus dance. Don't mind switching up strikers to keep defenses guessing but core players we have to identify those who have the character I mentioned above and let them grow into the role.

Hate to admit it, but that's one manner in which Utd has always done well and what has put them in the position to contend every year. Heck even with Macheda picking up the slack up front they got the pts to top our allstar team. Point is a squad has to have quality, but in the right places, and the manager has to understand where that is and which positions don't warrant ridiculous investments which could stall us if those players are out of form. Strikers are the most on/off ones in the bunch so why not leave that for last, build a team from the back, and then polish out the finishing touch. Man I just realized why I win all my fantasy leagues lol Macca I have more if you get me a corner office at Melwood! Azkop

Why do you have to lash a guy's character who hasn't even signed yet ?
By all means we can have debates on LFC players (Carroll, Adam, Downing etc) or footballing ability of potential signings.
But to start writing off people who haven't even come ?
If he wants to go to Spurs, so what ?
How does that make him a bad person or without integrity ?
What if he does sign for us after all, what do you say then ? Back him all the way ?
The Real KB

Sigh! thats time i will never get back

How do you know what his motives for moving are? Why should he not consider all offers, especially from clubs which finished above Liverpool this season? What has any of this to do with integrity? He is a Hoff'heim player not a Liverpool player

Gav

True or not, if you had a choice of jobs you would got for the one with the best salary? If sig chooses spurs then so be it. Don't forget he is not a Liverpool fan so he doesn't see the club like we do. I still believe we r one of the biggest in the world but I am biased, other people don't see us that light anymore.

01 Jul 2012 12:46:22
Right can we get one thing straight.I dont care who we sign to be perfectly honest I only care about who leaves lets face it our PL performance was average against mid table teams at Anfield if we can shore up against these we can grab fourth spot.

The team we have, can and has beaten the best in the league over and over, so why change it we just need to work on the harder nuts to crack and thats it.
We missed Lucas and Adam(dont want to hear how rubbish he is I like him) we have a very balanced team when it comes down to it.
5 of our players were included in the England squad who looked the best ive seen them since Sven left.If they had left out Young (Downing maybe but wouldve had the Ox really) and Overrated Rooney for Carroll (if playing that formation) I could have seen us going far, lets face it Italy seem to be the team to beat and we nearly did it.

So just relax personally if we can keep the good squad players ship out Aquilani,Cole and Spearing maybe add some youth which we have an abundance of and make one decent signing(not necessarily big money just decent) then we will improve.

If I have left soemthing out or spelt someones name wrong I am sure the overwhelming whingers, moaners, self righteous pompous b*nts who seem to troll this page with their bile will reply loudly up high on their pedestals but I dont care its what I personally think.

Am I the only one who is tired of people slating Rodgers? The man has had the job for a month now and all people do is complain and say he is an average manager who will bring average talent. Get behind the man and support him the transfer window just opened few hours ago and it's open for another 59 days I believe? Patience is key I know it's aggravating with all of our competition buying players, but most of you know the Liverpool way.
red lad

I agree with you on this one , the man has not even been in charge of a game for us yet , just because he is not coming out and giving everyone all the LFC buisness dealings , then people are calling him , we don't know who is targets are but some people on here are saying he is mediocre and will buy mediocre players , i cant wait for us to sign a top player then maybe the ones slating him will get off his back ,

what some fans on here seem to forget is , if BR says he is looking to sign a player then the price will go up and other teams will go in for the player so there will be a bidding war ,

let the man make mistakes first before slating him , thats what i say , but for some reason i think he will get us playing some great football and with the right signings we will be a top 4 side again , his c.v. shows you were he is coming from , if he can get swansea playing in the barca way imagine what he can do with better players ,

I personally feel he was the right choice, when kenny was getting battered on here myself and many mentioned Rodgers and he got battered too, these are the people that want Mourinho. I feel its a stroke of genius in Rodgers appointment and we'll soon realise that from the off. Bring on the new season.

Yeah and let's be honest he already has won as much trophees as David Moyes has with Everton

I think Raheem Sterling will be in the frame a lot more next season. Brendan Rodgers tried to sign him on loan at Swansea last season, so he obviously holds him in high regard. {Ed002's Note - He did not try and sign him on loan last year - he is not old enough to go on loan before this coming Christmas.}

...what's wrong with 35k?!?! That's more than A LOT of people earn in one year

The whole things been distorted by the ridiculous wages paid by the 'plaything' clubs of Chavski and Citeh. Thirty five grand a week - why does anyone need more than that.
ND

Erm if sport franchises make A LOT of money a year then why should the players not get there reward for earning those franchises their income? and if those clubs want to pay then they will if they don't then they won't

If you applied for 3 jobs and got offers from all, are you not going to look at all of them and take the one with the most positives? money is a "Necessity" it's how the hunters of today's world earn their way for a better living.

yh 35m is better than what most make in a year But footballer don't play football forever they are thinking long term.

To the poster above, Asda and Tesco are multi billion pound companies, if i remember correctly when i worked for Asda in 2007 they had profit of 800 million for the tax yr, 800 million. They may employee more staff than a individual football club, but u cant tell me that those employess dont deserve a little more than minimum wage when the company profit that amount of money, help a brother out and add £1 an hour to the wage at least?

And 35k a week? Thats 140k a month. If you can't save money out of that to make you last a life time, then you need a financial advisor.

Money actually grows on tree's for players, i can understand why they get paid a lot of money, but in all fairness, when you compare what they actually do with the rest of the working world, the amount they get paid is disgraceful.

Hi Eds

John Aldridge in his column in the Sunday world has issued a statement telling all us hopeful of top signings for Liverpool to forget it as we cant attract top players at the moment,that buck has only 20m to spend. that wont go far if as reported ramirez is worth near that figure alone do you think this is true and should we just except we arent a top 4 team anymore, shanks must be very dissapointed how far we have fallen.Tommy Irish red. {Ed002's Note - I cannot say if what he has said is true or not as I have not read it.}

Aldridge is a clown. . He said Torres was a waste of money when he signed and that he would not make it at Liverpool. . He also slated Lucas so much it bordered on bullying and is now doing the same to Henderson .

Pretty much got it right then oul jonny aldridge

Henderson was a waste at 20m though
as was Downing at 20m
and Carroll at 35m

their true value would be
Henderson 10m = over paid 10m
Downing 12m = over paid 8m
Carroll 15m = over paid 20m

That's 38m

And the only reason Downing and Henderson were acquired was to supply Carroll because Kenny got Henderson for the Right to replace Kuyt and Downing to replace Babel. Adam to replace Meireles & Aquilani.

the only players that worked from the summer tranfers was Coates (he played every game of the Carling cup until the Chelsea game) and Enrique (who burned out in the last 6-8 weeks, due to no back up) and Bellamy who also burned out after the carling cup victory (just drop in form).

So seeing that £22m for jovetic wouldn't be bad at all and £17m (21m euros) for Ramirez wouldn't be bad at all. But the fact is that we lost soooo much funds last summer we will only be able to get one unless Suarez is to be sold to make room for spending and if Suarez goes then we can scratch Ramirez of our list.

According to the many online sources the current asking prices for 3 rumoured targets are De Jong (12m), M'villa (7.) and G. Ramirez (16m). That's less than we paid for Carrol (who I rate), I'm sure it's all paper rubbish guessing prices but potentially great summer for Liverpool got any updated on these 3. Eds. thanks

Redjay

M'vila for £7m .... absolute fantasy !

I think he means 17m

Would love it if we got them three but de jong is all but a Gladbach player. so i'd say

1. ST; Jovetic £22m / 27m euros
2. Winger; Ramirez £16.5m / 20m euros
3. DM; Gago £6.5m / 8m euros

LB; Then just use Robinson or Wilson as LB cover and get a proper Full back Cover in January when Jorge Fucile (Uruguayan) of porto is back from his loan spell at Santos.

That is £45m in the summer for 2 first team players and 1 DM backup (who can play first team if Lucas needs time to ease back or play along side Lucas if Gerrard is out)

and £6m in January for Fucile who can play at RB or LB to then allow Kelly to go back to CB.

======-==Reina==-======
glen=-=martin==dan==Jose=-=
=====Lucas=-==GAGO=====
========Gerrard========
RAMIREZ====-=====JOVETIC
========Suarez========

The need for pure wingers would not be there due to the formation as the aim is to keep the ball. Jovetic and Ramirez and Gago all have very good ball control and the two Forwards have very good movement as well as a eye for a killer pass to non other than Mr El Pistolero.

Gerrard is a plus on the counter attack an will be VITAL were are on the defense as he likes to press high as does Lucas.

Gago's game is similar to lucas's with the difference that he likes to have a shot every now and then, i would say the he also like to venture forward up the pitch but Lucas is also known to do that when he feels comfortable & has confidence in his midfield partner.

Then options for the bench;
You have carroll who will be needed for teams like chelsea, stoke, sunderland etc.

Cole who hasn't go the legs but is technically good and comes into the box at the right times (kind of like maxi but in my option not as good, but one that i feel if utilised right would be a valuable squad member, also another reason I don't think he is vital is because we'd jovetic, downing as left side options with sterling and he'd pull rank over sterling from a managers perspective as the manager would want to use someone who would give a more mature performance)

and bellamy, henderson, shelvey, coates, kelly, carragher, doni, sterling.......

That would get us into fourth i think. Although we finished 8th last season surely our luck in front of the goal next season won't be as bad as hitting the woodwork 29 times in the Premier league.

01 Jul 2012 11:44:56
To be honest, whether Sigurdsson signs or not is immaterial - good prospect but no guarantee he will progress to become a great player. My problem is why would any footballer sign for a side with no current manager, not knowing if the incoming manager actually wants the player. The Chairman thinks he's a good signing, but we all know what most Chairman know about football.
It just seems a strange football decision to me, if he signs for Spurs then there must be no other reason than money.

John B

I think it is simply recent form and money , Spurs record over the last 3 years looks more likely to produce a title challenge and champions league qualification than the LFC project is at the moment .

I reckon we simply have to rebuild under Brendan Rogers and be open minded about players reasons for signing with us from now on , be it to progress & mature at a great club they could finish their careers at if they're good enough , or only to play in the champions league and compete for titles when LFC are ready for that , being a high paying football club .

I'm giving Brendan Rogers time and support to put something new together at a football club that can offer a new manager a bigger and better opportunity than 99.9% of football clubs in the world .

EdWood

Maybe he has been told AVB is going to be new manager. I think that would have been discussed with Sig at time

Over the years I don't know how many players I've bought and sold for LFC in the close season and transfer window! LOL. I've made some quality signings, sold some right donkeys and my squads were well equipped for the seasons ahead. I think if we were all given an unlimited amount to spend we would all end up with a different team and sell different players. We, on here, and out are all football managers, we all love the game, and our team, but I suppose its not that easy. There are a million reasons why players dont sign, or want to leave I suppose, so its a matter of waiting and seeing what will happen again and hopefully we will find players that at long last will be the final pieces in that jigsaw

And I quote " let's put it this way , hoffenheim are the Everton of german football and he can't even get in that team .. " enough said

He is not average mate, far from it. Whoever he signs for even if it is for £10mil will have got a real bargin. 22 years old and already better than Vander Vaart and look what impact he had !!

Buddy im a hard core pool fan and have to say with the money they have they have brought in some great talent and are actually a very smart good team under moyes been like them is no insult tell your german mate he should watch the epl more before he belittles everton and manager changes is what kept sig out of that team i think

And better than Van der Vaart (world cup,Champions league,leagues winner who has played at the highest level his entire career) yes lad course he is.

I'd be sad to see reina leave but maybe it's his time? I would quite like lloris! Also personnely I can see sig choosing tottenham, some players seem to only care for money nowadays, but if I'm wrong I apologise to him.

99% of players chose the money or succes prospects, the two go hand in hand. The 1% that don't is Steven Gerrard and we already got him

If he signs for us all the posters gonna have to change from hes average to utterly butterly its great

Sig should sign with spurs coz if he comes to us .. he will just get abused by the so called plastic supporters of this awesome club just like the same people who hated lucas and now hate hendo

Eds just been on the skysports website and was reading the Gerrard story asking for England fans to lay off Rooney anyway as I read on I was mortified to see the words "Gerrard told The S*n"...just asking with his captaincy is Gerrard obliged to give interviews to this rag coz I know he had personal hurt from Hillsborough and would of thought he hates the rag as much as any of us...would it be a 1-1 interview or could they just quote him from a press conference? Thanks please post I hope someone could clear this up. {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what obligations he has.}

Interesting Sunday Express comment this morning.
"Daniel Levy is understood to be stepping up efforts to bring in Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghan WHETHER AVB WANTS THEM OR NOT!"
Perhaps this will explain matters to those posters who keep asking how Spurs might sign a player we want whan Spurs don't have a manager.

From what I've heard, that's how he's worked on most transfers when Redknapp was there. How did that work out for Dos Santos? Levy can sign them, but he can't guarantee them playing time and if AVB or whoever takes over and doesn't want them, it could be a long wait on the bench.

Still, so long as they're earning the silly money Spurs want to pay them, I'm sure that will make it worthwhile...

A lot like adam then

01 Jul 2012 09:59:47
Eds, have we any interest in joao moutinho one of the stand out performers at the Euros? His and Lucas could be brilliant together in the middle. If we could get Ramirez as well we'd be in for a great season? Line up could be something like this:-
Reina
Johnson skrtel agger Enrique
Moutinho Lucas
Suarez Gerrard. Ramirez
Carroll

Thoughts? {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any confirmed interest from Liverpool. Rumours persist of Moutinho moving to Chelsea if they would pay the 30M euros required but realistically it is unlikely to happen. If AVB takes the Spurs job and they lose Modric, I would expect that they will look to Moutinho.}

You have to feel for Fabio Aurelio,another 6 months out is a cruel blow.
I remember when Rafa was in charge,he said that technically he thought Aurelio was as skilled as Gerrard or Alonso. I must say,during the rare occasions he was fit enough to get a decent run in the side,I thought he was quality! I did think it strange that Woy brought him back in,after he was released,and I guess he shouldn't have. Hindsights brilliant,I suppose! WelshBoyDave

Yip, i loved Aurelio, quality footballer when fit. Really feel for him that his career is getting taken away from him with all these injuries. I suppose Roy took him back due to lack of funds for another player. Although, i feel an unfit Aurelio would still have been better than a fit Konchesky lol.

The Irish Rover

I thought Rover he was kept on to train the youth as he has ability and skill in abundance.
So even though he was injured he still has a role as a sort of coach but could be wrong.

Does anyone know if Moses can play anywhere other than on the left of a 3 e.g where he plays for Wigan. He's young, powerful and had a great engine. He also has a trick or two, but his final ball and finishing are lacking.

I think a good signing at under 8 mil, but I don't want him to block Sterling's route to the first team. I know it's a squad game, but if it's Moses, Sigurdsson (all but gone) or Ranirez then I'd prefer the latter. I know he'd be more expensive but his ability to play in multiple roles and play more with his head than all drive and power makes him a great option.

I hear what Ed02 and 22 are saying about him potentially replacing Suarez, but I can see him joining regardless if Juve's mind and money is fixed on Van Persie or others.

Papa G

Just wondered eds if any any particular team still after Suarez? I wouldn't doubt there are a few still as he is quality but haven't heard much lately.

Personally if we got offered £30 million i think we should take it and buy 1 or 2 players they may not be quite as talented but that would be 1st team starters and offer more combined in way of goals

gareth {Ed049's Note - Juventus and PSG off the top of my head, please use the search function mate it has already been discussed over here.}

KiwiRed

At LEAST 40 million. I would like 50 million though and if they are not interested that is great. Look at the prices we seem to pay for players they are hilarious eg downing carrol Henderson and even Adam so in my opinion this is a fair price.

He is going folks. Get used to it. If he keeps his attitude right for his next team he could be a world beater, but he is no good to anyone watching from the sidelines.

The Irish Rover

He signed a 5 year contract 18 months ago and regardless of disciplinary problems is a much better player than say cavani! He's never injured (touch wood) and knowing Liverpool we'll sell for around half his true value and buy some complete tosh for the same money. Makes me laugh how seriously bad we are at transfers. All other teams with good players make sure if they have to sell them, they seriously sting other teams for them- eg hulk but app we Shud sell a far far far better player for less. Outrageous!!
Jason

Guys your kidding-£45-50 MILLION! aRE YOU CRAZY! Those days are largely gone (thank god) when players would be purchaed for stupid money. Yes chelsea and other such teams have payed over the ods for players but even man city have stopped dont that now
Yes FT went for lots of money but Suarez much as i rate him would never sell for that money
gareth

I don't think he's going anywhere...

Lee YNWA

Players who fetch £40-50m plus are generally those who are thought of as the best in their position and are coming off the back of a prolific season. I don't think of Suarez as the best forward around (Aguero, Rooney, RVP all better reputation form the PL) and last year although he played well his scoring rate was average and he showed ongoing disciplinary issues. £30m MAX I would have thought, if you just apply common sense

Gav

RedTurk seems to be taking a dig at FSG too often for my liking. Didnt they give us 100 million plus to spend on players? Didnt they save the club from administration? Didnt they sack the clueless dalglish and hodgson? The people responsible for this mess r dalglish and commolli. Mancini used a 100 million to buy silva, balotelli, toure albeit on high wages. If only we had spent the money better, we wud have got top4. The owners r helpless if the manager n scouting team r clueless. Im confident BR will get us back to the top though it will take time, n its highly unlikely we will get top4 next season coz we r behind arsenal in terms of squad quality. Patience is the key, n if we can hold on to suarez and sign a ramirez n a couple of decent players, we will definitely improve on our performances from last season.
Indian Buzzer

We can't afford the wages man city pay mate. So it's not a valid argument.

MIKEY

Yea and if he doesn't you can come back on here and call him clueless like you just have a liverpool legend and a man who has forgot more about liverpool than you have or will ever know about liverpool have some respect

They are useless in everything they have done.

Mikey im not saying we should have gone for silva or toure. We should have signed players who were worth the fee we were willing to pay for them. Trust me, if we had gone for better players, we would be pretty close to challenging citeh. We all blame citeh for inflating the prices of players in the market, but if u take a long hard look at their transfer policy, u can see all the players they bought r worth the money citeh paid for them. U cannot say the same about us, chelski or man utd. As for the wages, im sure many players out there would consider us without champions league football if our project for the future was going in the right direction, but unfortunately u cannot blame players for rejecting us coz we are in a mess. If u look closely, the squad quality is pretty poor. Sell Suarez n it will appear to many we r fighting for a top10 finish. BR is a good manager who can work wonders, but the job in hand is gonna be much more difficult than he thinks it is. U cannot blame Sig for choosing spurs over us(if he does). If only the 100 million had been well spent.....
Indian Buzzer

Please don't dig too much at daglish or even hodgson for that matter. Hodgson didn't really get any support from day one and just didnt fit our club but he is a very good manager that can work with little-sometimes a manager just does not suit a club, end of.
As for Daglish, the idea of buying english talent is hardly something we should knock! In prinicple its a good idea and im sorry to say it but half the players that man city got wouldnt want to come to us and 2: we couldn't afford their wages at all!
I agree that daglish didn't buy brilliantly but we have to many foolish supporters that believed we would win the title etc etc, and it was never going to happen at all. Daglish for all his mistakes Loves This Club and put his heart into it so show some respect please! He has put more into this club than most as previous manager and player and that is why i get annoyed by comments like yours

gareth

Indian Buzzer,

Your argument that "if we bought better players we'd be challenging Man City" is completely ridiculous.

Of course it's true, but how can anyone know this?

Almost the same as saying, "if we had won the games we drew in a few years ago, we'd have won the league"

It's completely null and void because "if" is the most pointless word when trying to make an objective statement.

Also, have some respect regarding Dalglish and Hodgson.

Joe

We played some fantastic football last season exept the last 7 week's when every thing had all ready gone away but some of the football was sublime and we weren't always rewarded and that was with the 100 million pound of rubbish as you put it there good players if people like you decided to back them instead of knock them then maybe just maybe they can show every 1 what they can do

Don't know if its been reported, but Soldado has signed a new contract that will keep him at Valencia until 2017. Are Valencia looking to keep him, or do you think its to get more money for him? I am of the opinion that if one was to wave a nice £20m cheque under Valencia's noses, they, or more importantly the banks, would find it very difficult to resist.

I'm sorry Ed 49 and Graham but I'm not having people think we behind spurs and newcastle just coz spurs had good few seasons but wot they won in last 10/12 years !!! And Newcastle !!! The man that took spurs from being very bad to good they just got the sack !! I am not saying by all means so called world class players are falling over them selfs to cum here , no not by long shot but please think wot we done over last 10/12 years yes we ant won prem but steve g got good few medals to be proud ov !!!!! Not living in past but just trying to show these so called plastic fans they not plastic fans just short scited , keep ye head held high all lfc supporters just coz teams have little run don't mean anything let's c wot spurs win and newcastle in next 10 years or will they say we ant won anything but we fin 3/4/5/8/7/6/4/5 well done that go down as great history you lot got ,sorry for rant but Liverpool fans got a lot to be proud ov And look forward to !!!!
Keep the faith YNWA lfc linc {Ed049's Note - I get where you're coming from mate but there can be no denying that overall Spurs and Newcastle have a better squad than Liverpool.}

I expect both spurs and Newcastle to be leapfrogged by Liverpool next season though.
Spurs and Newcastle have better squads but only because they are more complete and don't have the gaping holes Liverpool have, right mid and striker anyone?
But Liverpool have much more potential and better players. I know I say it every year but we are only a couple of players away from really competing.
We always seem to get so far then buy someone awful and cheap to plug a gap.
Just look at our LB position for the last few years, we have bought and sold many when just buying 1 quality player would have solved the problem and probably saved a load of money.
If you buy cheap, you buy twice.

MIKEY

Thanks Ed 49 sorry for bit ov rant , lfc linc

I would agree that Spurs maybe just have a better squad than Liverpool but certainly not Newcastle. People really need to look at Liverpool's games last season and look at all the good things they done. How they played teams of the park constantly and had 20 plus chances yet failed to win. We certainly were no where near as bad as our league position suggested. We need a goal scorer at least, and 2 if Suarez goes (which he will), replace Kuyt and hopefully replace Adam. That is the bare minimum required. Oh, and a lot more luck than last season.

Hi eds great site just want to say do some people not read the posts the person who said that sig will make his mind up tomorrow who he joins. He will not be joining us the choice is between spurs or Swansea Liverpool have not agreed a fee with a Hoffenheim so therefore cannot sign him until a fee is agreed. Stop moaning about lack of transfers reds back the players that are there until they are gone back the new manager see what he can do first before making judgements. Why is everyone slagging off Downing he did have some bad games i agree but he hit the woodwork six times last year and could have had the same amount of assists but for for poor finishing if he had six and six figures we would be praising him i for one think the likes of Carrol Downing and Henderson will be very good next season. Come on the team is not that bad who would have thought that two seasons ago we would have been saying we missed Lucas give the lad a chance

Cumbrian Red

Sorry, but despite what has been misconstrued on here by posters (and some EDs), agreeing a fee isn't the issue. There is no evidence in any article I've read in the broadsheets that Liverpool are unwilling to match Hoffenheim's valuation of the player. The only sticking point that has been reported has been the player's wage demands. Consequently, whilst we may not have formally bid for Sigurdsson, that doesn't mean we wouldn't or couldn't.

Sig's Dad seems to make it clear it IS between us and Spurs, as he wants to play in England at the highest level {Ed005's Note - So you come on and say wage demands is the issue and that everything people say about transfer fee is rubbish and no evidence for it, YET, you quote from the statement Sigurdsson's dad made about him wanting the PL, where in the same statement he also said Sigurdsson's wage demands aren't high? Smart.}

No, what I'm saying is 'it has been reported (by the Liverpool Echo for example) that the player's wage demands have been the issue. Obviously, his Dad is trying to set the record straight on that. The point I'm trying to make is, where is the evidence (written or otherwise) that Liverpool are unwilling to meet Hoffenheim's valuation, as I have not seen it. Happy to accept I'm wrong if someone can link me to an article / report in a creditable news source {Ed005's Note - What I'm saying it, you are talking about credible sources and using credible sources, yea? Then you say there is no evidence that the transfer fee is the issue, then you say there is plenty of evidence that wages are the issue, then you use a quote from his dad's recent statement, where his dad also said that wages aren't an issue at all. So obviously you look a touch silly at the moment mate if I'm being honest and you yourself have failed to read what everyone has said over recent days that both wages and fee may be an issue, and you have also failed to provide any "source or link" with your wage claim however those "reliable sources" you talk about seem not to be reliable thus far, as his father has put the wage issue to bed it seems. Between the loan deal with Swansea and Hoffenheim the £6.7m fee was agreed upon but obviously that doesn't mean Hoffenheim can't ask more from other clubs. That's all I'm saying.}

I think its generally accepted that the Swansea price was a 'one-off' due to the loan and the actual valuation is reported at around £8m.

All I'm saying is, regardless of whether his wages were, or were not an issue, I haven't seen anything in the broadsheets or press agencies (which I presume everyone would accept are credible sources) that Liverpool would not pay his actual valuation (of circa £8m). The only place this has been stated is on this rumour site and I believe because its been stated as fact by many posters, everyone on here now believes it to be true. All I want to find is the source of that rumour, which doesn't appear to be in any of the major news agencies or broadsheets.

I'm not having a pop at anyone (I think this site is fantastic and I hope you can appreciate that I'm having an intelligent debate about this and not mouthing off for the sake of it), but I genuinely wanted to understand if I've missed something that proves the valuation was the issue.

Sorry if I've offended you or anyone else with my comments - that wasn't my intention

It looks as though Brendan will play tiki-taka next season and this is my view of the situation

4-3-3

Reina: As good as Valdes with his feet but unlike Valdes is actually good with his hands. Has said in interviews since Brendan Rodgers has been appointed that he likes the idea of playing as a 'sweeper keeper' very much.

Johnson: Perfect for this system with his overlapping nous.

Skrtel: The 'bad cop' of the centreback partnership, massive, good arial ability and throws himself into tackles.

Agger: One of the best centrebacks in the world in my opinion and is a great ball playing defender.

Enrique: Cracking first half of the season but faded afterwards. Which is why the acquisition of Juan-Manuel Vargas is a good one as it will kick Jose up the backside and is better going forward and keeping balance with Johnson down the other side.

Gerrard: I think this style of football suits Stevie now in his career as he is no longer the gut-busting box-to-box midfielder he once was, it's let him settle into a 4-3-3 where his passing ability will be shown off.

Lucas: A player to fill the 'Busquets' role is now a necessity to modern day midfields. A combative, defensive minded player who's job it is to distribute the ball through from defence to the more forward thinking players.

Aquilani/Henderson: It all depends on whether Aqua stays or not but I believe both are ideally suited to be the deep-lying playmaker. Henderson was bought supposedly to play in the middle but didn't, but when played there has impressed greatly.

Suarez: Hovering about dangerously on the right of a front three is everyone's favourite Uruguayan. He played here when he got his hattrick and is Messi-esque the way he drifts around up front and interchanges with other forwards.

Carroll: I don't believe he'll be deployed as the traditional massive English battering ram, but as the Mario Gomez/Ibrahimović style player he has started to resemble of late, being awesome in the air, but also holding the ball up well, as well as having good technical ability and finishing.

Gaston Ramirez: Attacking Midfielder by trade, but he reminds me of David Silva on how he can play almost anywhere in a creative position, pacey, excellent dribbling and good crossing abilty.

Bench can be chosen from; Doni, Jones, Gulacsi, Kelly, Flanagan, Coates, Carragher, Wilson, Vargas, Robinson, Spearing, Suso, Sigurdsson, Sterling, Downing, Pacheco, another backup striker, Bellamy

I do agree up to a point and that's Aquilani, they guys got to go!
In his place I'd put Shelvey to fight for a place with Henderson

Agree with the last poster that aquilani has to go and shelvey deserves a chance.
It's a very positive post though and I like your optimism.
After seeing Swansea reach dizzy heights with Brendan it's going to be intresting to see how far Liverpool can climb the table.

Good read in most. However, I think Gerrard will be are deep lying playmaker making the odd run forward and every now and then interchanging with Henderson.

Henderson and shelvey as are box-to-box work horses. Both are young and can do the running for Gerrard. I believe shelvey (like at Blackpool) in this role can get a far few goals.

If some remember I was not too keen on Rodgers but it was mainly due to his name to pull players in. Having time to think and watch highlights of Swansea season I really do think his 4-3-3 system will get the best out of every player in our squad and could help the likes of suso and sterling to push for games.

Time to wake the mrs up for you know what ................ I ment breakfast guys

Red Rout

I think Hendo an Shelvey must compete for Gerrard's successor and a more creative AM bought (Ramirez ideal) with Suso and Adorjan given chances behind him. Then a new WF to play in a front 3 with Suarez and AC.

sigurdsson to choose between Liverpool and Tottenham in next 24 hours, where do you think he will go, Liverpool = believable, spurs = unbelievable, personally after his dad saying he isn't interested in the money just about his football and making the right move i think he will choose Liverpool, he will get more first team football and will be used more effectively under Rodgers than villas boas. also there are rumours linking us with moutinho and lloris this has got to be rubbish as they would never leave there clubs for a team not in the champion league encase they are fans, eds any solid information on new realistic targets? personally with squad we have id be happy with one more holding midfielder two wingers at least and a striker, maybe one of the wingers could also play striker like luuk de jong or that type of player. any news on Bellamy? heard he will find it hard to quit pool as he has a contract under warrior sport which he could lose alot of money if he quits Liverpool. great site keep it up!

Ed, could you put up a 'couldn't care less' button mate?

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - I tend to find skipping past a post and not clicking anything suffices when I couldn't care less.....}

I think he's going to Spurs and his dad is trying to pave the way and take some pressure off him by saying where ever he goes it's for football reasons. Lets be honest we're all p****d off because he chose spurs over us but if someone offered you an extra 20-30 grand a week you would follow the money and I wouldn't blame him at all. Personally I'm not bothered about losing him but what's bothering me is the fact that we're losing our appeal, this wouldn't have happened 5-6 years ago.

Liverpool have yet to agree a fee with hoffenheim. it's nothing to do with what he chooses

I believe spurs as If is father did say this then maybe he is trying to make it sound like he is joining spurs for football reasons. Just a cover up by his father in my opinion to make it seem like it is less about money. Cheers Chris

Jesus christ the guy never even got an offer from liverpool, let it go ffs

This is just a thought about the Liverpool team for next year - just a proposition of what I would like to see

Buy:
Edison Cavani - proven goal scorer - good friends with Suarez and Coates. Could be a small chance - maybe
Gaston Ramirez - wonderful playmaker and would link up with Cavani and Suarez
Xabi Alonso - loved his time at Anfield and would also be the key in midfield!

Sell:
Glen Johnson
Andy Carroll - not a big hit with BR anyway
Adam
Skrtel
Henderson
Downing
Aqualini
Cole
- these would fund a move for the players above -

Loan: shelvey, spearing, Flanagan etc.

This could lead back to 4th place which is a wonderful thought as a Liverpool fan!

Cheers - great site!

This would be catastrophic, losing most of squad to buy 3 players. 4 of them represented England at the Euro's and another was our player of the season last year. We need to let BR assess our players during pre-season and back him. I think that 4th will be a big ask as our players need to adapt to a new system.

Hopeful!

Why sell henderson. do you not recognise a decent young player when you see one. as well lets sell half of our defence that played so well last season, without replacing them. good stuff. lets also sell our 35 million pound investment because when you sign a 23 year old it isn't for the future. lets sell a winger without buying a replacement. i thought we were frail enough in that position without selling one. honestly if we got what you wanted we'd be a bottom half side with players on huge wages. we haven't a hope in cavani too. i'm all for people having an opinion but this is ridiculous.

Haha i like the way you'd sell johnson and loan out flaningan, leaving us one injury prone rightback. And selling Skytel? and most of our central midfield? It would be pretty funny if you were our manager. Who would be your number 2? Mike Bassett?

Eds your patience with having to put with all the bull and very hard work is very much appreciated by many and I applaud you all 1 by 1 from agent 001 till the last. I dont know if it's just me Iam missing something or player rumours and speculation madness took its toll on fans, because Its realy gone very very quiet on the DoF front, is there any news or any speculation at least so far?

SudaReD {Ed002's Note - I am by no means sure they are looking for a DoF.}

what a load of rubbish again in the mirror about Sig. He has already agreed a deal with Spurs and passed his medical. If was joining LFC Macca would have told us. Its very quiet from you Macca lately. Are your contacts not givin anything away or is nothing happening which would be a worry.

Maybe he is waiting for something solid to avaoid ar*e hole posters from cutting him down if the move weren't to materialize for any reason.

Classic mate just classic!!

That lad should have been given a chance on the left wing under benitez he would have bounced balls off toress head all season and would have helped other lads get goals another player totally wasted under benny {Ed049's Note - You realize he was injured most of the time even under Kenny?}
