Ed 02 if you are about. I was just wondering with the window set to open. With all the mess Platini is in do you see ffp going anywhere or being replaced by a salary cap?
Thanks
Happy New Year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I remains and what happens with Platini is irrelevant. It certainly won't be replaced with a salary cap.}

01 Jan 2016 21:58:17
Eds do you no if we have approached Ter Stegans reps about the possibility of him joining us? I've just read it somewhere and it's probably rubbish but thought I would ask please?

Many thanks.

I think Klopp will give Ward a fair shot before bringing in a GK. Maybe that is why Migs may be offered a new contract, to allow Ward time to develop as our first choice GK instead of spending more money on a new one.

02 Jan 2016 07:21:12
Cheers Ed

Nothing on the search engine since June mate which is why I asked.

01 Jan 2016 20:15:35
Just seen Bournemouth have signed Iturbe from Roma on loan with an option to buy, Good signing for them that, I know its not LFC related but I thought i'd heard his name mentioned on here a time or two so thought it relevant ish.

Yet another player we were linked with somehow who probably isn't that good - I haven't seen him play in the flesh but even from his stats I can see that he's another lightweight forward who has scored just 11 goals over 72 appearances for his last 2 clubs.

He may well come good and leave me eating my words, however I'm glad that the links to us turned out to be nonsense and I'll hazard a guess that this is a massive gamble for Bournemouth and I'll wager that the deal doesn't get made permanent.

{Ed001's Note - it is not that he is a lightweight forward, his issue is the way he plays. He likes to dribble, which is not a bad thing if it wasn't that he has become selfish about the ball. He is like Cristiano Ronaldo when he first joined the Prem, where it was all about getting the ball and doing stuff with it, rather than about the end product of what he did with the ball.}

02 Jan 2016 08:42:42
Thanks Ed001 - you've obvioulsy had the benefit of seeing him play so I'll add that to my stats and stick with my 'not for us' view ;-)

Joking aside, he doesn't sound like the sort of player Bournemouth need - I'd have thought they'd have gone for some proven solidity to make sure they stay up, especially as they're only 3 points ahead of a relegation spot - perhaps we could have tried to sell them Milner ;-)

{Ed001's Note - I do find myself worrying about this move for them, he does not fit the way they play.}

02 Jan 2016 10:50:36
Maybe that could be a good thing?

That one of player who will be selfish. I know its not the greatest, but if the rest of the team all play the way they do. maybe he could be that cherry on the cake for them. Take a shot that bit earlier, or drive with it because he wants it about him.

We could do with that player. All the times we pass around. Suarez was tbag, about himself. His stats were like 100 something shots with 30 goals, he was a fablous team player (absolutely no critism) but he would ass around with it. Now we don't have they player we pass to much.

Could be a good thing for Bournemouth.

And so it begins.
The month of madness.
Happy new year to all the EDs for their hard work, knowledge, keeping us informed of latest developments and educating us all on how the system works (in certain cases) . Good luck in what will be a hectic month.

Happy New year to everyone on this site.

{Ed002's Note - Any to you.}

01 Jan 2016 12:27:05
Tricky game tomorrow. West Ham had more time to prepare, not playing since Monday, and Bilic showed several times on the last year that he can get under the skin of LFC. And he should have Payet, at least on the bench, though we should have Sturridge.

I will be quite impressed if we can get a third consecutive win there. We will need to score more than one goal though because I don't see us keeping another clean sheet.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Jan 2016 12:49:08
I agree but hopefully they will come at us being at home and we can hit them on the break.
Bilic is quite astute IMO.

I'm going for 1-3 to the Reds, shame we'll let a goal in.

01 Jan 2016 13:48:14
I hope you're right, Ron because the way we played vs Sunderland will defo not cut it, that much is clear.

01 Jan 2016 16:07:53
We were ok against sunderland they are fightin for their lives always a difficult game in them circumstances.

01 Jan 2016 17:58:26
1 - 0 would be a great result for us tomorrow and that is as much as I can hope for based on the majority of our performances and finishing. I fear its more hope than actually expectation.

01 Jan 2016 19:40:50
Yes we will try to impress you fanobip. then maybe you start supporting us. at least until we stop being impressive again :)

02 Jan 2016 02:15:08
We weren't that bad v Sunderland. If we'd put away the sitters it would have been 3 at least, surely?

02 Jan 2016 04:06:49
I am actually expecting us to drop this game. Its just got that type of game written all over it.

01 Jan 2016 11:34:51
Ed2 is transfermarkt reliable in the sense of transfer fees paid by clubs and player contracts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They get their information from a third party at the start of the season (and it is completely accurate at that time) - and that third party provides their database to clubs and media organizations. After that Transfermarkt update it themselves. You cannot rely on any figures given in Sterling - you need to use euros as that is what is provided to UEFA (the source of the information). As for contract dates they should be pretty accurate.}

01 Jan 2016 12:16:44
Brilliant ed thanks for that.

01 Jan 2016 11:33:35
Ed1 happy new year buddy. My question too you is on Markovic. what's your opinion on him and any idea what the clubs thoughts are? Keep him next summer or sell on? Personally i'd like too keep him.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - happy new year to you too mate. Last I heard they were just going to keep tabs on him and make a decision during this transfer window whether to recall him or not. That is the first step, the summer is a long way off, they have not made a decision about January yet! I would think a lot depends on offloading players to make space for him.}

01 Jan 2016 11:55:42
I would like to see him back IF he is going to be at least on the bench, this would require allan, millner and maybe lallana to move on imo which I can't see. If our central mid can be manned by Can, Hendo, Lucas and Rossiter. Attacking 3 would be from Couts, Firminho, Ibe, Kent, Markovic. If lallana and Milner are still here then a recall makes no sense unless the club are willing to let them sit out games and there value diminish accordingly for a summer sale.

01 Jan 2016 13:51:58
Exactly, North. Keep Marko on loan as he seems to be getting some game time while we finish out the season and hopefully in the summer, Allen, Lallana, Milner and a few more can be shown the door because they bring very little if anything at all, to the team.

{Ed002's Note - Fenerbahce will look to sign Lazar Markovic in the summer. His time at Liverpool has done nothing but disrupt his career.}

01 Jan 2016 18:18:58
If that is the case Ed, then good luck to him in his career. Very good kid who gave his all whenever he got a chance even tho, many of us knew he wasn't ready and Ed had said he should never have been bought. Another "feather" to add to BR's hat of incompetence.

01 Jan 2016 11:31:00
This is Jurgen Klopp’s journey to the Kop.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

01 Jan 2016 16:23:52
WOW! Can we have some of that please.

01 Jan 2016 18:41:54
Brilliant documentary. One would never know that Klopp had experienced several disappointments in his career but he never gave up and always believed that tmrw is a better day. That is why he is so positive and cheerful. Tomorrow wifi be a better day and we will learn from today's disappointments and use it to prepare for the next day. Great guy, great mentality.

{Ed023's Note - You planning on improving wi-fi for us all?? Please say yes}

01 Jan 2016 20:17:13
Auto correct did not work for me there Ed, sorry.

{Ed001's Note - shame as my wifi is awful, I thought you were going to help us out.}

01 Jan 2016 21:44:38
I knew I should've never rejected that job offer at the Geek Squad, lol.

01 Jan 2016 11:18:53
Is it true klopp is recalling ryan kent to be part of the first team?

And what's going to happen with ilori now.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

01 Jan 2016 10:12:19
Tiago Ilori and Ryan Kent are both returning to Liverpool from there loan spells!

Believable9 Unbelievable2

01 Jan 2016 06:37:02
It looks like Villa want to send Ilori back to us, if he can't improve a bottom of the table defence then can't see him cutting the mustard with us, even though people through a wobbly when he went to the Villa. It just seems though that was more money wasted by Rodgers, hopefully the lad can get some sort of decent career out of the game.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

01 Jan 2016 08:56:14
I honestly wouldn't take notice of what Villa have done with Ilori, they still have Agbonlahor playing (and as a captain) which is farcical enough. They have limped on for 3 several years after O'neill left hopefully this year they go down.

{Ed001's Note - O'Neill is the reason they are in a mess, he left them with ancient players on big money, so they had no one to sell to raise funds to rebuild.}

01 Jan 2016 09:14:52
Well that's what tends to happen when the owners put in a plan of buying young and selling them off for a profit. They are unproven and it is always going to be a risk, some make it like Coutinho, but unfortunately others don't like maybe ilori.

01 Jan 2016 09:23:42
Red if he wasnt talented then why star in a great portugal under 21 side in the summer.

01 Jan 2016 09:43:46
Given our injury record at CB I would be delighted if Ilori returned in January. I am still amazed Sahko got up from that challenge and Toure seems to pull something every time he plays.

01 Jan 2016 09:44:47
Which were the ancient players ed? Maybe heskey? at 31. Most others I don't personally consider to have been old when transferred in, though maybe not the required ability, Collins, Warnock, Dunne, Sidwell, Milner.

I know it's basic, but he got them from relegation/ mid table to challenging top 4 every year, and in the final year of his tenure when he should have been pushing for champions league with LFC in disarray and Spurs their only rivals, Lerner refused more funds.

{Ed001's Note - the whole team was on the decline mate, I remember well someone from the club telling me about how the wages were ridiculous for players O'Neill never had any intention of playing as well. He had a bunch of players on the bench and in the reserves being paid like first team players, then never used them. There was a lot going on there, the style of football was awful too. O'Neill is a lower league manager, who has no clue about quality of play, but can improve crap players. So he continues to pick crap over quality, while the higher paid quality rots on the bench.}

01 Jan 2016 10:12:09
Dorset wasn't Coates player of the tournament at the copa America?

01 Jan 2016 10:43:42
And isn't Coates at Sunderland? We are talkimg about villa here.

01 Jan 2016 10:51:41
Fair enough ed001,I'm not clued in on wages at villa in 09 haha.
I didn't think the overall team was bad though, when he left and really should have pushed on/ continued it's good run under a new manager but it just never happened. I think a lot of managers (in 2010) would have like friedel, young, milner, downing, petrov and Bent.

But to get it back on topic, and Ilori I just wouldn't take notice of a club ending a loan spell of a player. I don't particularly rate connor wickham but palace seem to prefer him to Bamford.

You only have to look at LFC dealings, we loaned in Manquillo, loaned out Wisdom, and continued to playu Jonhson last year, if that doesn't tell you loan systems can be a horrible business I don't know what does.

{Ed001's Note - I don't rate either Bamford or Wickham personally, Bamford was lucky to play for a good Boro side, rather than being a particularly outstanding player.

I do agree though, loans are a pure lottery and it is difficult to judge players through them. Personally I would like to see the whole loan system scrapped, it is open to abuse and is being abused.}

01 Jan 2016 14:04:57
Typical Red 64 post, blame the owners for BR's blunders. The Ed's have mentioned here countless times that the owners never had that policy but you seem to keep bleating on about it in a bid to absorb BR of blame which is so 2015. BR bought him and was never bothered about him because for some reason afterwards, he didn't rate him so why was he bought? As for Ilori, I want him to get a chance because if he's that good for a talented Portuguese youth side, why can't he be a decent back up here or is football suddenly different at LFC? As for Coates, he was too slow to play in our system but is still a good player and a starter for Uruguay, a much better team than England will ever be so your point makes no sense, Mighty. As for Villa, they're a basket case with no end in sight to their probs hence, loaning him there was a stupid idea and IMO, just a way for BR to see the back of him, just like he has done to other players he dislikes. I and many of us want the boy to be given a chance, that's all. Judge him then instead judging him based on the rank incompetence of dinosaur managers and pointless loan spells.

01 Jan 2016 04:34:53
Wishing everyone a very happy new year.

Just saw news of ryan kent being recalled from his loan spell. we do seem to have a number of exciting wingers (kent, canos, ojo, wilson and sorry if i miss out any) .

Is it possible to rank them in terms of who is most ready for first team football for liverpool?

And who have the highest ceiling in terms of potential?

Thank you.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

01 Jan 2016 08:50:12
I would say kent and canos look higher up the pecking order. Which is a surprise fir me considering i always thought it would be ojo and Wilson who will truly emerge. Wilson's loan was badly chosen and he needs a talk with the manager and a proper loan otherwise there is a possibility of him getting lost in the shuffle. Then there's Ojo who keeps displaying odd moments of brilliance at wigan but hasn't been able to solidify himself like canos. Still there's enough talent there to breal out.

01 Jan 2016 08:51:06
Sorry that should have been. Wolves. near ojo.

{Ed001's Note - he was at Wigan last season.}

01 Jan 2016 09:30:34
I have been watching these lads for years and all 4 you mentioned will have a career in the game. The one player who has developed the most in the stage from boy to man is Serge Canos. He will get better and better. Ojo has always been ahead of his age group and another player who will benefit from playing games against men. Harry Wilson isn't ready yet physically, and Ryan Kent will be given opportunities now he's been recalled, always liked this lads will to win and forward play. I can see 3 of the 4 being crowd pleasers in years to come.

01 Jan 2016 09:32:56
Yeah i realized my mistake afterwards. Btw happy new year ed001 and all the other eds and posters.

{Ed001's Note - I know mate, I was just pointing out it was not that bad a mistake as he did spend time at Wigan. Happy new year Reet, I hope it is a good one for you.}

01 Jan 2016 12:06:57
I would say ward has benefited from his loan and will come back a better player. Happy new year all.

01 Jan 2016 02:56:16
Eds and fellow reds and football fans everywhere. Please have a safe and wonderful New Year. I wish everyone health and happiness. I turn 36 on the 1st all I want is a trophy and top 4.

Ed001,
You've said in the past that the club's loaning system has been really bad. Do you think the loans this year have been successful as a whole?
Canos, Kent and Ward have shone and benefited greatly from their time away so I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Also what would you do differently next time?
I imagine Huddersfield will be a club that will loan some of our players in the future as well as the manager there has links with the club so would Huddersfield be a good club to be loaned to? (that's a very difficult question sorry! )

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it was better this season, but still not ideal, for instance Harry Wilson's loan was badly chosen. Managers do come and go, which makes it difficult, but most of our loans were simply chosen for the sake of it, rather than picked to be the right loan. I would expect there to be a lot more thought put into it now, as there is a chance of first team football if they stay.}

01 Jan 2016 10:23:25
Cheers Ed, much appreciated.
