Eds would you say then that Tello is a know go now and that Salah is very possible if a fee can be agreed.

Also who are in the driving seat for Rakitic now? I know we have some interest but who else is after him now as it's gone a little quite.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have been telling everyone on here for the last few days that PSG are about to sign Rakitic.

Hi eds,

Heard a few rumours flying around, about jose saying that mata can leave if he wants. Surely he would be open to a nice away from Chelsea seems he's hardly getting any game time!

Do you think there's a chance Liverpool could go in for him as I remember him being linked with us back before Chelsea signed him!

Thanks, JD

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mata would cost 30 mill to us. He is a gem of a player. No doubt, And I don't care If he doesn't track back. he would atleast score 10+ and assist another 15 per seaosn. good at freekick, he is a real good player.
Jose on current form wil never sell to Liverpool.

Hi eds was just wondering if I could get an update on the situation. I know you don't like to get into finances but I see Chelsea published some results yesterday but didn't see many worried with there findings. It's also been mentioned that we were one of the clubs which would be in trouble even though we pushed for the introduction of . When are the structures and punishments taking effect and would the club be confident with falling in line also when will we see liver pools financial results posted. I presume a huge offer for Suarez would help if we were worried

H Eds

What are your thoughts on João Carlos Teixeira. How highly rated is he at Liverpool? can you see him making the grade at Liverpool?

Regards

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He could have a spearing kind of role in the club but obviously in a more attacking position. but it all depends on how long the club is prepared to put in the work to get him to the level needed. I think technically he is ready for a minor role in the first team now but perhaps not in the league as every game is vital at the minute.

We might see what BR thinks of him next game against oldham if he gets on the bench. but he hasn't been training with the first team, well I don't think so anyway & that might knock his chances down. Dunn might get a shout in the FA cup which is good as a rate him highly but not as highly as I rate Teixeira, he makes the U21 tick he is their Coutinho.

Great win today but what's happened to the Hull buses. Apparently some Liverpool lads attacked them. Hopefully it's not true.

Whats everyones thoughts on the poss signing of salah and tello just wondering who everyone would prefer us to sign eds aswell. Me personally would prefer tello the lad is quality loads of pace but never seems out of control with the ball even when running at pace an he can finish which is what we kinda lack from the wide areas is someone coming in from the side an finishing well. what's everyones views?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Both if the chance is there for both!

Agree0 Disagree0

The only trouble I can find in Tello's game is his reluctance to track back and help out his team mates once he loses the ball. If he can add this to his already mighty talents he will be a fantastic player.
It seems BR has gone a little coy on the player though and his preference seems to be with Salah at the minute.

are they allowed to change the added time in a game after its been displayed they put up four first then changed it to five even the commentater said they've gotten another min from somewhere

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes they are. if a substitution happens or an injury, further minutes are added. Most people including pundits seem to forget the 4 minutes is a MINIMUM added time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes you can add time onto additional time. When it is announced, it is always stated that there is 'a minimum of 4 additional minutes' (for example)

I'm all for getting behind the lads but people saying Aspas had a great game are completely wrong. He was struggling big time. IMO our players looked tired. Just glad to have won

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Aspas has improved big time while he has been here and is still learning how to play to his strength's in the EPL.
You may not have thought he had a good game yesterday. That's you opinion. But compared to previous displays he was excellent. One of his best performances for us so far.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree. He's missed a lot of shots in the last 3 games.

Agree0 Disagree0

He`s a very good player w/ one of the softest touches in the league. When he`s able to improve his finishing and add goals to his game, he will be DEADLY.

39 points from 20 games. 18 to go and going by last year's table we need 36 points or 2 points each from our remaining matches to secure a champions league place. Given that we have to play all the big teams except for Manchester United at Anfield I think we're in with a big shout. We are improving as the season goes on and big players to come back fully fit, as well as 1 or 2 improvements in the current transfer window. It's looking good.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We also have to play the likes of West Ham, Fulham, Norwich, Cardiff, Cystal Palace, Stoke and West Brom away from home. Majority of those teams will be fighting to stay in the PL, and no doubt they will be difficult games.

Hi Ed001,

Great win today!

But I still don't get it why BR give opportunity to the lazy Moses instead of our own Alberto. Can't understand why we loan Moses when we already got Assaidi and Suso. just why.

Question for Ed001, how do you rate Assaidi as a player? do you see him still having a future with us? Hope to hear your answer.

Thanks Ed001. Have a nice day.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced Assaidi has a future with us. He has great pace, good trickery, but his crossing and passing are poor. I think he is well suited to a mid-table Prem team, or a good option for the bench, but no more.}

I think the money we would get for selling him won't be worth it, he would be a very good option for the bench. he has more impact on games than moses does and next year with Europe being a possibility we would need a bigger squad, And BR knows this that is why he loaned him out to a premier league side same goes for Borini, Suso and Wisdom.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to agree w/ ed01. We need players who can get us over the hump in the coming seasons and Assaidi is not one of them even if he adds depth to the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely disagree here.I've seen Assaidi play for heerenveen and I have seen his performances for Liverpool, and stoke, I think he's better than any winger we have atm. What make you guy so sure he won't make it. He can clearly contribute goals too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Assaidi is a bit of a Shaun Wright-Phillips. He looks good, even brilliant on MOTD or a highlights package, but watch him over 90 minutes and the mistakes and slackness massively outweigh the occasional highlight.
Borini just doesn't score enough goals for a striker, which is like a keeper who is good at distribution, but let's too many goals in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Watching Rooney's petulance is reminding me of Suarez's admirable restraint. He's been kicked about all season - with scandalous lack of protection, not least today - but just keeps soaking it up. I appreciate he got booked today, but even then he seemed as sinned against as sinner. I think we're very lucky he hasn't picked up an injury yet this season. If he'd got hurt or we hadn't ended up winning today, we'd all be ranting about the referee again.

Should Brendon make a fuss about referees' failure to protect him, or might that be counter-productive?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rooney does that whenever his team isn't winning. That is the kind of behavior that needs to be looked into by the FA, because quite frankly it puts the common thug into shame.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rooney`s behavior is a prooduct of Fergie`s reign and the FA`s powerlessly hopeless approch to doing anything about it. He does that when they`re not winning and gets away w/ ALMOST everything w/ no retroactive action against him. He dives, kicks, punches and elbows players while harassing match refs whenever he feels like it. Worst thing is, he really isn`t that good anymore. I can name btw 5 and 10 forwards who are better than him in the PL. Pathetic really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please try then 'Ohio'. 10?

Agree0 Disagree0

I said btw 5 and 10, molbysmetronome. Hence,

Suarez
Aguero
Van Persie
Negredo
Lukaku
Sturridge
Hazard

Get it? Great!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2014 18:40:31
I always said Assaidi is a good player and just needed time to adjust to the EPL, hope he comes back and is at least in the squad and we send Moses back.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don`t too carried away. Assaidi`s been ok at Stoke because like Shelvey, Adam, Carroll, Downing and so on, that`s kind of his level. Let`s wait and see.

Agree0 Disagree0

He proved in Eredevisie and in his brief appearances for Liverpool he's at our level

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he was awful for us, constantly gave the ball away, how on earth did he prove to be at our level?}

Ed01 is right. He had no end product and was very predictable in his decision-making. Sorry Bobatron, He`s NO LONGER up to our level because we actually have a coach w/ high standards now so get over it, bro. Also, comparing the dutch league w/ the PL alone shows how weak your argument is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Because when He was introduced form the bench he gave us a forward drive in Europe when we'd often looked lethargic.
Far too much emphasis in modern football is given to possession since the Barcelona style became more prevalent from 2005 onwards(especially with pep at the helm) I would much prefer a player to make things happen like assaidi and only complete 75% of their passes than some one like cleverly who retains posession by passing the ball across the field and backwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you say he was awful for us Ed as he played on very little as subs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - because every appearance and during training he was struggling. That is why he was sent out on loan to a team he might get the chance to show what he can do with.}

01 Jan 2014 18:39:16

Good solid win is the way I'd put it. None of the fancy flicks or pirouettes that won us this game, just a moment of sheer brilliance and solidity. What I really liked about todays performance was our solidity at the back. Okay so we weren't against the strongest opposition, but its only our second clean sheet in like fifteen games, and to be honest we never really looked like conceding. The constant pressing high up the pitch along with the brick wall of Skrtel and Agger at the back really worked for us today. Next up is Stoke, we could do with Skrtels physical presence so I'd keep him in along with Agger. Aspas and Moses unfortunately have to either improve or move on. I understand Aspas is trying to adapt to the physicality of the PL but him and the rest of the team just aren't on the same wave length. Moses for me is too consistently ineffective. He doesn't really add anything to the team, and i'd rather see Ibe being given a chance instead. Have to say Cissokho didn't have a bad game either. Not my type of left back but he put a shift in today. Coutinho tried a little too hard today! If he can weight his passes better he will be an unbelievable player. He has a rocket shot though for someone with such small physique. Deserved a goal at the end for that run, if that had of went in we'd be talking about it for months!

Good to see Gerrard back, obviously he's still only getting back on the pitch hence the lack of driven balls across the pitch. Sturridge back soon, same with Enrique, Assaidi earning brownie points out on loan, strangely enough he's turned out to be a key player for us this season!

Well I'm going to leave it there, and since I didn't get the chance to say it last night, Happy New Year to all Ed's, Reds on the page and across the globe! Here's to a great 2014, and hopefully one spent in the Champions League!
Cheers,

after the very poor refereeing over the last two games from supposedly our top refs just like to say well done to todays ref whose name escapes me, anyway well done ref!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was terrible and let them kick lumps out of Suarez and made some Bizarre decisions!

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you joking? The referee was very poor today.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's disgraceful the way the referees are allowing people to kick lumps out of Suarez. Players should have been sent off today, in the Everton and Chelsea games and it will continue unless they start making the correct decision. We cannot afford to lose him through injury

Agree0 Disagree0

Hull should have NEVER finished that game w/ 11 men. Fat Bruce`s son should have been sent of for kicking LS in the chest. The ref was just as inept and spineless as the other two we had last week

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you must have been watching a different game.
I am amazed LS managed to walk off the pitch yesterday. I lost count of the amount of times he was fouled and the Hull players got away with it.
Well done to the lad for keeping his head.
Good 3 points. Nice to see we can win not playing well. Last season we would have struggled to have got anything out of that game playing the way we did. It was obvious the Christmas schedule had caught up with us. Some of the guys looked really tired second half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas was absolutely terrible. Gets pushed off the ball ridiculously easy and doesn't fight for it enough.

Happy with out defence today. Looked very comfortable without the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aspas needs to improve and FAST. But to say that he was useless is a tad harsh. He`s very hardworking and nifty on the ball. That layoff to Henderson was sublime. He had a very good preseason but needs time and confidence. Hendo and Lucas got stick for months if not years (Lucas) and now look what they have become. Like Alberto (who IMO is a very tidy player), Aspas will NEVER improve if he`s not playing.

Just curious if you would say the same if we had a 27 year old gerrard again and he had couple of crap games?

Agree0 Disagree0

Plymouth Red, you must have Irish Rover selective reading syndrome:-

'after bringing in 3 centre halfs, we keep the first clean sheet in a while with the old guard', I.e Skrtle and Agger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Old Big Ears 05, the streak situation ended after Chelsea. I sad out of top 4 come the New Year. At 1 minute past 12 last night we were 5th, as predicted based on the 5 games leading to the new year. Luckily, Sherwood wasn't in charge for the Spurs game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone?

Cissokho did a decent job today. He didn't do much wrong. Was very solid at the back and got into some decent positions.

Maybe you should watch the game again, rather than write your review based on your pre-match opinions on players.

Agree0 Disagree0

The lad is probably tired He is only young and its his first ever time playing true Christmas remember that ozone he iis a talented player only young playing 3 matches in a week over the Christmas holidays for the first time in his life so is he not aloud making a few miss passes

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone, you have little to no credibility when it comes to objective assesment of LFC performances because you`ve shown time and again your outright disgust and disdain for the level of work and progress that BR, the owners, players and staff have accomplished in 18 months. You have an agenda which is to discredit BR and revel in his and LFC`s failure which is quite sad and unfortunate and down right annoying and pathetic. I wonder why you (n your equally useless buddy Waro) never show up when we win and even when you do, all you do is criticise? I stopped caring what you think because it is filled w/ bias and false intentions. Take my advice, rooting for our great club to fail is bad for your health.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone was actually rooting for spurs to beat us which is why he never showed up after the shalacking and outright blood bath at WHL. Buddy, I hope the egg u had on your face wasn`t to rotten after the spurs beat-down. He would rather we fail as a club so he can prove he`s right. Pathetic attitude from a so-called LFC fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Couthinio assisted aggers goal and today he wasnt the best but the kid is lethal

Agree0 Disagree0

So by your understanding Ozone no manager had ever bought dud players?
You have to look back and think. Lucas was knocked when he first came, as was Henderson.
Some players take longer to settle into the PL than others.
It is far to early to give up on these players. And if they don't make the grade I am sure they will have some resale value.
EVERY manager has purchased players that have not gone on to fill there potential.
At the end of the day we are sat 4th in the league. A position I am sure you would have taken at the beginning of the season. We have a easier second half to the season. And we have players to come back from the treatment room.
Add to that whatever we buy in the transfer window and there is a real chance we can finish in a CL position.
I for one am real optimistic and can see the improvement in the squad. Add to that the amount of players BR has got off the wage bill when he first arrived, some on near £100 000 a week some on more (and no one can say they were worth it) and we are looking good.
No one expected us to be title chasing this soon after BR appointment. But were up there.
Lets see where we are come May and then we can decide how good a season we have had.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Real AG,

Because Brendas squandered resources, specifically on a centre half we don't see. Please don't quote the usual tripe about the most promising centre half in Europe. We were told the same about Yesil as a centre forward, Texiria, Suso, Smith blah blah blah, the propaganda keeps rolling. I'm not interested in promising, I'm interested in the here and now. Mignolet aside, none of Brenda's summer buys warrant a place in the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Were you interested in the "here and now" when Kenny was in charge Ozone. Just swap Ilori for Coates. Laughable. Or was he a panic buy also?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone is right. let's re sign Charlie Adam and Downing.

Good result today also good to see oscar from chelsea having a good swimmping pool dive with no contact. Egg on face mourinho . He was clearly awaiting contact. Pity it never came ye suarez gets bull dozed and its a dive lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Glad to see you were watching the Chelsea game instead of Liverpool.}

01 Jan 2014 17:41:20
ha. this poor guy doesn't know whom is he messing with. Its ED02.

Agree0 Disagree0

Point is that it just highlights what a hypocrite that arse moron-ho actually is. Can't wait for him to be sacked, he's already getting his excuses in early about Man City being favourites.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its easy to see clips on the net or see it live seen as it was on BT sport maybe the guy couldn't stream the Liverpool match so watched the chelsea match as all Liverpool fans wanted them to lose so Liverpool can go back above them. No doubt Mourinho ever says he didn't see it or deflects the question by bringing up something about one of his players. Mourinho was good when he first came to the prem. I loved watching him in interviews he made me laugh but now the only reason he makes me laugh is because he is a joke. I streamed the Liverpool game a good 3pts & had the Chelsea game on hoping they would drop points haha. Oscar deserves a Oscar for his dive.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - actually Mourinho said Oscar was in the wrong.}

01 Jan 2014 19:09:23
That Moment when Jose Realist. he said. ". If I don't win anything here. I would walk out myself. "
Forget winning. you ll not finish above us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its not a post about upsetting the eds its a point that mourinho whos so critical of anything Liverpool is a joke. I really hate people who go all out accusing people of cheating when his own players are doing it blatantly! Ah316

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow Mourinho said Oscar was in the wrong! Fair play to him then. though I guess he had to say that otherwise he would have looked stupid after what he said about Suarez. Had Chelsea lost the match or drew 0-0 I bet it would have been a penalty for Mourinho all day its only because Chelsea won 3-0 he didn't go on about it.

Agree0 Disagree0

No he didn`t. Ed01, I love you to death but I disagree. I read his response and frankly, he talked a whole lot but said next to nothing. His jibbrish even got me confused. He commented that Oscar`s a great player and Oscar`s explanation was that he was only thinking about his safety if contacted w/ the keeper . When it did not happen, he then found himself at a crossroads which somehow led to the dive. So in fact, Oscar dived in order to save himself from being smashed (his words) by the keeper. He NEVER said Oscar was wrong. This guy must think we are all as stupid as we look because that is by far the dumbest excuse for a blatant dive I`ve ever heard in football for my 30yrs. He also said that the yellow card was fair. YOU THINK? Mourinho is an arrogant person who only sees things his way and moans about everything before a game. He sees himself as the successor to Fergie in the bullying dept. His ability to be disingenuous and oblivious to the most blatant of facts (like in this case) is quite nauseating. Don`t get me wrong, he`s an expert tactician and great coach. However, his lack of dignity, objectivity and sincerity in some quarters is disheartening and disappointing atimes.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but you are talking utter nonsense. You are putting so much spin on it you should be a journalist! He said what he had to say to back his own guy while also agreeing it was a dive. If you are so bitter and hateful that you want to crucify him for that, it is a sad day.}

02 Jan 2014 07:37:10
ED01, Was Hazzrd not Diving?. I saw him swimming in rain.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed01, I am by no means bitter nor jealous of anyone and contrary to your grossly inaccurate assumptions, I have not one hateful bone in my body. There was no spin in my comment. He said what he had to say to defend his guy and I agree w/ you on that. Where we disagree is the reasons he gave. Regardless of your opinion, his defence was still the DUMBEST excuse for a defence I have ever heard. Period! I am not crucifying him for defending his guy. I am critical of the way he did it which to me, smacked of hypocrisy. In fact if you read my comment closely, I admire him a lot for his self-belief and astute tactical acumen. But he`s still a moaner and always sees things his way which atimes is a turn-off. And him saying the yellow card was fair and that it was a dive is stating the blatantly obvious and even he is smart enough not to contest that decision. Sorry ed01, he gets no points for stating the obvious. On a lighter note, I admire and appreciate all the work you do on this site BUT calling me hateful and bitter w/o any knowledge of what resides in my heart and soul is quite dissapointing and is by no means, the best form of reply to a comment you disagree with. We can objectively disagree on issues w/o all the name-calling and all that. Happy 2014!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - your whole post reeked of hatred and bitterness lad, you might want to stop talking crap rather than trying to deny it. It was a personal attack on Mourinho, which clearly showed you (and you are still doing it) twisting his words to suit your own personal agenda. If you don't want to be seen as hating someone, don't write messages of hate, it is simple.}

Ed again, you fail to see my point. Stop acting like we don`t know who we are dealing with. you see it as a personal attack and I see it as calling him out for being disingenuous and I don`t believe anything he said. We both know if he could have blamed someone else for it he would have. Simple as that. We disagree on it and that`s fine. Calling me hateful and bitter is quite childish but hey, it is what it is. In anyway, whateva bro! I`m off to work.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but you quite clearly made it into a personal attack on 'arrogant' Mourinho, which is a personal attack. You can try and dress it up however you want, but the fact is you made a very personal attack on a man because you don't like him, even though you quite clearly don't know him and judge him on his media soundbites. Jose is a lot of things, but he is only arrogant in the way he is seen through them. There is a very good reason so many players adore him. He takes a lot of time out to help people, people that he has no need to help, such as opposing players, improve their games.}

01 Jan 2014 17:14:37
The Moment Gerrard came in. we revert back to Counter attacking. If you look closely you could see Lucas and Gerrard in the straight line.
Y do we need 2 holding Midfielder at home against Hull?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree totally.

We had them on the ropes before stevie G came on and then like you say, we went to counter attack. Doesn't make sense at home to Hull. that's my opinion anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you for real lad??

Agree0 Disagree0

I've got to wait for the highlights sadly Harry. Do you have any insight as to why the tactics changed? Was it tactical or due to Gerrard dictating the style, or something else?

Happy New Year to you pal

Agree0 Disagree0

Did it not work?

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree with harry although I think the game as a whole had lost abit of zip what I didn't like though was that hendo who has an injury was still pressing yet there were 2 moments I can remeber just off the top off my head were we lost possesion ryt in the centre an stevie just slowly jogged back well I say jogged it looked like he was strolling no urgency to get back or press really pissed me off when lucas hendo have played 3 games in 7 days an he's back in needs to pull his weight an cover more ground esp when tracking back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cant believe what i'm reading here? When gerard came on the game came under control.we didn't need to try and beat them, we needed to retain our lead in a controlled manner. that's exactly what happened

Agree0 Disagree0

Tel 1949 yes we needed to retain our lead but everyone knows 2 nil is a dangerous score line what we needed to do was up the tempo with gerrards range of passing we could of but the game out of reach. in the end we closed the game out in comfort but one goal from hull an it could of be a different story.

Agree0 Disagree0

Stevie came off the bench after a hamstring injury and you want him running around like a chook with its head cut off? he needs to be eased back in

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2014 17:13:17
Real progress today. We played as a team and defended like it was an fa cup final. Rogers is now starting to learn that when you have a lead you shut up shop and see the game out. He didn't do that against everton and let them back in the game.
All in all a tricky game today following two defeats. Were looking good boys. Sitting comfortably near the top, they will all drop points, we just have to be ready.
A very happy new year to everyone, brilliant site eds!

not too bad back the top4, thought cissokho had a good game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The whole back four was solid (at last). Cissokho did well again - nothing spectacular, but solid and calm. Maybe he's the answer at left-back after all, at least in the short term. Thought Kolo did a similarly decent job on the right after replacing GJ.

Is it just me oor has sterling beefed up and starting to looked settled in the premiership?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. He looks a lot stronger mate. He's playing with great confidence at the minute as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest there has been times when I have thought he is to weak to play in the premier league and his defending and passing was awful but I am so glad he has proved me wrong

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he has bulked up a bit. Not quite up to his recent excellent form today, but worked hard.

Aspas needs to follow Raheem's diet/fitness routine, as still far too lightweight, though made a nice lay-off for Hendo in the first half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think sterling has been playing really well lately.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, he seems comfortable doing the so called dirty parts of the game .

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm just hoping he gets a few more goals to help his confidence. I'm sure he's got the ability to finish a lot better than he does and with a little more confidence in front of goal he could really step up yet another level

Agree0 Disagree0

It's the only part of his game he could do better but i'm sure a good decent effort going in would do him a world of good or just follow Luis round the training ground because that boy can finish

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with this one, at last I not feel alone in the world.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. His passing needs improvement too.

Can Someone explains to me. what's Countinho's actual problem. Is he desperate to score.
No.10 doesn't score enough. they create it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have no problem whatsoever in Coutinho shooting, I would prefer he got more on target though. In all the teams I ever coached, I always preached if there was a shot on, then have a crack and take it. Its never a bad thing for your number 10 to be shooting.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2014 16:34:40
How good could Coutinho be if he could shoot on target?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Jan 2014 17:02:19
Probably he would become the best striker.
He should pass more than shoot.

Agree0 Disagree0

How good will he be when he is a complete player?

He's young with plenty to learn so it will come with time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Davey, give him a little Tim lads as he's still only 21 which really is pretty young in footballing terms

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2014 20:30:16
Felt sorry for him after that amazing solo effort in the 90 minutes or so from the halfway line. Skips past three/four players with ease, skill and grace then seems to not be able to score.

He knows he has missed a few recently so probably just feels he needs to score - thus taking more chances. Still, he is only 21 and will undoubtedly improve.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What game were you watching? We were winning 1-0 without Suarez's brilliance. It was a great team performance; such a naive statement.

Liverpool always won the games because we scored plenty to give that brilliant confidence to our midfielders and Defenders.
Lets be honest. untill the second goal it was pretty much an equal tie. and we weren't scoring. they were pretty good in the middle and back.
That free-kick. actually hit their confidence.

Mixed opinions on the first half. Positives are we are 1-0 up despite playing quite poor and we are creating a few chances. Negatives are we are not taking them chances. I'm really hoping we get a goal early in the second half, otherwise them missed chances could come back to haunt us. Aspas has been poor, similarly Coutinho who I don't think has completed a pass yet. Agger playing well which is nice to see and Johnson is playing slightly better (and I mean the slightest improvement possible) and we haven't really been troubled. Again one or two refereeing decisions are poor, the yellow card for Suarez was purely because the ref felt he was getting frustrated. And then Meyler goes in with a leg breaker and gets a talking to. This is the kind of stuff that gets on my nerves! Anyway enough blaming the ref, we have been quite poor in the first half, hopefully Hull are feeling the fatigue too, otherwise this could get really ugly.
Cheers,
ROI.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Jan 2014 15:57:08
I hope this doesn't turn out to be another case of wasted opportunities for Liverpool. Should be 3 - 0 up at half time, and Hull should be down to ten men. If Bruce's first challenge was yellow then how a kick to the chest isn't a second yellow I will never understand. it seems referee's are reluctant to send players off nowadays.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have some questions for Ed001 when he's back but firstly, Happy New Year to all the Reds and Eds out there and a sincere thank you to all the Eds who out in the time and enough to make this the best football site on the web. Despite what some critics might say, we'd be lost without it!

My questions for Ed001 are:

1) How far away do you think the likes of McLaughran and Smith are from first team or bench places?
2) Do you have any idea how Ibe is getting on?
3) Finally, any news as to when Flannagan should be back?

Many thanks as always

Believable0 Unbelievable0

2. He has an injury which kept him out of the last game.
3. Not sure, it depends on who you talk to as to the severity of his injury. I am not sure who is just telling me the truth, and who is trying to keep opposition managers guessing regarding who they will be facing.}

Its a no win game. I can see it already.
If we win. well its only Hull and we should be putting these teams to the sword.
Anything else and these boards are going to be full with the knockers who will spew there vile about how BR is not up to the job and we should get rid.
Lets put it in perspective.
Hull are a decent team. They played well over xmas and come here off the back of a 6-0 win over Fulham.
We have an injury list that is, to say the least, astronomical. Gerrard looks set to return but will he have the edge so soon after injury?
YES. Were at home. And that is a big advantage if the crowd get behind the team. But let's not go into the game thinking it is a home banker. Its far from it.
100% concentration is going to be needed and all the team are going to need to give it there all.
Lets just hope, that come 5 o'clock were not reading all the doom mongers on here slating this fantastic club of ours.

Ed,, what's your say, If spurs don't make it to Top4, are they going to fail the FFP?. what's the financial situation over there?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Spurs have no financial problems and they balance the books eah year. Only two EPL clubs have a major issue.}

I'm still waiting for the first big team to be denied European football due to breach of the "break even" rule.

I don't think UEFA have any chance of enforcing that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 02 are we one of the clubs? Which ones are in danger of not complying with the set rules?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool and Manchester City.}

Liverpool and City? 3 years of running at a lossand a strongly worded letter? What next after that ed? i'm sure you have aswered this before.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I suspect the strongly worded letter as a final warning there has been talk of an initial sanction may be to switch places with a Europa League club but that seems unlikely to me.}

Which clubs are they ed002? i'm guessing one is Chelsea with the 50 million loss they made.

Ed002, please could u give us an idea who those two clubs are? Grateful and happy new year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is Liverpool one of those two clubs?

Agree0 Disagree0

Who are the 2 clubs?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The clubs are Liverpool and Manchester City - there is nothing new in this.}

A single agent has already got the ball rolling, I don't think the "break even" rule has any chance of being permissible under EU legislation. What's your opinion ED002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no "break even" rule and the FFP rules are no using the full accounts for the clubs as the calculations are very different.}

I meant regulations covered by art. 58-63 of the FFP regs.

I skimmed through the annex relating to the calculations so I can't comment on it.

Essentially my point is that if UEFA decide to impose a sanction on a club for failing to break even and the disciplinary action is something like withholding UEFA competition revenue or exclusion from UEFA competition, then they are going to have a very hard time convincing a higher court that their rules are not in breach of many EU laws.

I have this feeling that BR is going to pull a rabbit out of the bag and sign a player that is completely OFF the radar. Someone nobody has even mentioned.
I don't know what makes me feel like this. Especially as we are linked with almost a dozen players. Most of which would be good additions to the team.
I just feel it. No explanation. In information. No gossip. Just a gut feeling. And its going to be a big one too. A real marquee signing.

I'd go for centre mid where we seem a bit light now Allen's out for a few weeks again. Rakitic looks useful - we could do with a Lampard type midfielder getting 10 goals per season.

Lots of people are suggesting we make a fair few signings in January. Whilst that would help achieve our top 4 ambition, surely we have to bear in mind Suso, Borini and Wisdom will all be 'joining' in the summer. Perhaps loans or older players might be good options and they'll help in the short term whilst not stifling the development of our promising younger players. Unless they're all surplus to requirements.

So Chelsea make a loss of 50 million but still comply with the financial fair play rules. How? When if you lose 37 million you should be punished. Don't tell me it's complicated and all that tripe. You either comply or you don't. Crooks. Cheats on and off the pitch. Makes me sick

Agree0 Disagree0

FFP is a total nonsense in my opinion. It's a fine ideal to try and enforce everyone to spend according to turnover, but it is impractical and the law is unenforceable.
Is Platini going to stop PSG competing in Europe? No, because they are French. Is he going to block Real Madrid? No, because he doesn't have the guts to take them on and because the sponsors want to see Real in the competition.
FFP is a soundbite of a policy. Platini wants to be head of FIFA and toothless soundbite policies are his modus operandi.
Why shouldn't Chelsea spend their owners money? If LFC were in their financial position, large sections of our fans would be crying for more spending.

Ozone, I don't dispute that Kenny was a legend. Not just for what he did for us as a player, for me it was more the way he led the club and conducted himself in the wake of the Hillsborough tradegy. If he had represented any other club I am sure he would have received a knighthood for it.

However I was firmly of the opinion that has appointment as manager second time was a huge mistake, firstly because he had been out of the game so long but also I am old enough to remember so of his last signings from his first stint in the job. Since you seem to be trying to justify his signings in your posts lately, let's see you make any positives about these two. David Speedie and Jimmy Carter!

Lastly I would like to point out as a Liverpool Supporter your role is to support the team and management, not to sit there bitching constantly despite the fact that we are finally playing attractive football, and looking look we might be in the fight at the end of the season.

Yes we just had two disappointing results, however Chelsea are unbeaten at home in the league this season, that includes the visit of Man City. Whilst Man City not only are unbeaten in the league at home this season, they have a 100% home record in the league at the Etihad. That includes Arsenal, Man Utd, Everton and Spurs visits. Despite both those impressive home records we looked like we could've and in the case of the Man City game should've nicked points.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He won us a trophy! Stop with the Kenny bashing! Your having ago at a lad having ago at Rodgers by having a pop at Kenny. Stupid

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course it was a mistake and I wanted him to stay. Even months after he got the bullet. His signings were poor, which he would have got away with if the results were better. Yet when you finish the way we did then there is no hiding placRodgers has came in and he made a pigs ear of it in the first season. I don't buy into the season of transition Bs like some do. Mourinho won't be getting it at Chelsea. This season has been a lot better and we are competing for top 4. So for some clowns to come on and pick holes in signings or tactics makes no sense to me at all. I want to see how we go the rest of the season. If we finish top 4 then Rodgers has done his job and deserves the applause and his bad signings should not matter as all managers make them. If we end up 6th or 7th then he should go. He will have had 2 seasons and plenty of money. No excuse! This is where I stand. Simple.

A man after my own heart. People don't like the truth. Some have their own weird agendas.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kenny was doing the job with the sword of Damacles hanging over his head.
He was never the board's choice as manager. Unfortunately for FSG, Kenny did a remarkable job as caretaker manager in his first 6 months. He put them in an impossible position, had they said "thanks Kenny, see ya" then the next man was destined to fail as they could not improve on the team's form. So they gave him a 3 year contract. Perhaps that is too long but I think that is what Kenny demanded and had probably deserved.
Now Kenny was the man under pressure and he and Comoli went and overspent on Downing and Adam. They had already taken a huge risk with Carroll. All was well in the first half of the season, comfortably in the top 4. Then the sword fell. The Evra incident and the response. Kenny backed his player. In most circumstances this was right, but not in this case. An allegation of racism is a political hot potato. Kenny needed to let the FA deal with it and focus on football. I realise the media pushed him, but he walked into their trap. The reputation of the club suffered, the team fell apart on the field. The league cup win was not enough to save Kenny. He had given FSG just enough to sack him and they were ruthless.
I'm still gutted about how it all worked out, but that should not detract from judging Rodgers objectively. The fact is, he's done a great job and deserves lots of credit. I hope we get top 4, I think we will, but I'd also love us to win the FA cup, because Rodgers deserves to win something this season.

Happy New year and happy New transfer window to you all!

Just wondering if we have reestablished an interest in Nolan roux or luuk de jong but even saying those two I get a fear that they will turn out just like borini and aspas.

I can't understand why people keep saying that the squad is thin and then back up the comment by using the left back area as an example?

We have Jose Enrique, Flanaghan and Cissokho. 3 players for the 1 position. Then we have Sakho and Agger that are both left footed who can play on the left in a 3-5-2 system if required with the youngster Brad Smith to play as a wing back.

Thin?

When I think of every position in our team I can think of at least 2 players that can cover any position and do a decent job. (i said decent - not great)

Sure, we might need to reinforce DM as Allen cannot cover for Lucas all the time due to his ongoing injury concerns. We also need a little bit of quality on the flanks to allow Coutinho to play more central from the left and provide depth on the right with Sterling also in that position.

By the looks of things BR is looking to these areas to strengthen/improve the squad anyway.

We also have great talent coming through the youth system.

Obviously, if we were to qualify for the Champions League, we will need quality x2 for every position and we are very close to that now.

I feel that when BR has stated that the squad is thin, he really means that - We lack quality in depth. Not that the squad is thin.

So, the question is - When Jose Enrique, Flanaghan and Cissokho are fit and Sakho and Agger also available options. Are we really that thin at left back?

My opinion is that we need to buy a solid DM to provide competition and give Lucas a rest sometimes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Midfield should be our main concern for now. but we also need 1 or 2 attacking players. we need a lb because cissokho hasn't impressed anyone, his loan should be terminated, if possible. flannagan is not a natural lb. but we should address this problem only after sorting out other issues

Agree0 Disagree0

For a start Flanno is a right back. Also, Enrique, Cissoko, Smith, on current ability level how many of City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U, and even spurs or everton would touch any of them? None. They are simply not good enough, neither is Johnson.

Agree0 Disagree0

Almost every squad has named 25 men so each team has the same amount of players, ofcourse he means quality. we had a 16 year old on the bench vs chelsea!
we lack, an attacking minded mid, we haven't had a decent back up keeper since brad friedel, we lack a quality winger and right back cover(kelly is like glass +wisdom on loan)

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we should be focusing on a left back in the immediate term for all of the reasons you've mentioned. But Smith isn't ready for the first team yet (maybe a loan move in the second half of the season would benefit him, as well as staying injury free), as well as he's done, I'm not convinced that Flanagan is ultimately ever going to be more than a squad player at best. Cissokho isn't good enough in my opinion and Enrique is inconsistent. All that said if a good left back became available now, then we should move for them. But priorities should probably be elsewhere!

Agree0 Disagree0

I feel BR and the rest of the personnel have done a good job in bringing good quality and some squad players into the group. We certainly have over-achieved or maybe others around have under-achieved given how tight the league is this term. But we certainly need to improve our squad as there are a lot of players in our squad just adding to the numbers and not quality. I'm sure it will change over the course of BR's tenure. Just think about this, Chelsea had Mata and Schurrle in their bench while we brought on Smith as an attacking sub while trailing 2-1. This may suffice for this season but if we do reach those top 4 spots by the end of the season, then we need some good quality additions to sustain in Europe and most importantly following seasons in the top 4 as just this once will not do for a club like Liverpool's stature. The fans have been good recently, maybe its because of Christmas and I just want all you lot to be patient. I would wait 5 more years for us to reach top 4 if it means us qualifying for the next years after that as well, and not just the 1 year now, with again dropping down because we don't have a good and challenging squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a Jan Molby type midfielder, at least our midfield cover wouldn't be thin then :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not thin in terms of number, just a bit thin on quality.

My Analysis of Kenny Dalglish's second term as Liverpool Manager.

I have heard many fans saying that "Kenny ruined our club", "Rodgers had to clean up Kenny's mess", etc, etc. Therefore, I felt the need to add my thoughts on the topic. Firstly, I don't believe that Kenny ruined our club, and secondly, I don't believe he was the right man to take the club forward, and here's why.

Signings under KD:
Luis Suarez - £22, 800,000
Andy Carroll - £35,000,000
Jordan Henderson - £16,000,000
Charlie Adam - £6, 750,000
Alexander Doni - Free
Stewart Downing - £18, 500,000
Jose Enrique - £6,000,000
Sebastian Coates - £4, 900,000
Craig Bellamy - Free
Jordon Ibe - £500,000

Why Carroll, Downing and Adam were targeted by Kenny.

1) Andy Carroll - The 2009/10 season saw him tally up 17 goals and 12 assists in the championship helping newcastle to the championship title. He then went on to prove he had the ability to perform at the same level in the premiership. In the first half of the 2010/11 season he scored 11 goals and assisted 7 for Newcastle. A very good return for his first half season in the premier league. At the time he was one of England's biggest young prospects and based on ability and potential I can fully understand why Kenny wanted him.

2) Stewart Downing - He scored 7 goals and assisted 9 in the previous season for Aston villa. He was seen as a very good crosser of the ball and I vaguely remember it being said that he made the most successful crosses in the league in his previous season at Villa. He was brought in to compliment Andy Carroll's aerial ability. In my opinion if you want to play that style he was decent transfer target.

3) Charlie Adam - He scored 16 goals and assisted 9 for Blackpool in the season they gained promotion to the premier league. He then went on to tally up 12 goals and 8 assists in his first premier league season with Blackpool. When he was brought to Liverpool the idea was for him to play the Steven Gerrard role as Gerrard himself had been struggling with injuries. At the time I remember there was also interest from Manchester United and personally, I thought he was a decent squad player.

At the time, all three players were very good transfer targets by Kenny for the style he wanted to play. The main concern is obviously the amount of money that was spent on the players. Particularly Carroll, Downing and Henderson. As we are fully aware almost £70m was spent on these 3 players. Now whoever negotiated the transfer fees ought to be shot, but ultimately the owners had to authorise the deals to go ahead and they are to blame. I very much doubt that Kenny had anything to do with the cost of the players and in my opinion it was the owners' inexperience in the football business that was a major factor in them authorising the transfers to go ahead.

After Kenny's first full season in charge it was clear that the overall team performance did not warrant the money spent, but regardless of cost, if the players don't perform and the season objectives are not met then in any case it is usually the manager that is sacrificed.

In Kenny's time as manager the owners had time to analyse the club's situation and draw up a long term plan for the club. They felt a transition was needed and they wanted to rebuild the club around a different playing style to that of Kenny Dalglish, and that's where Brendan Rodgers came into it.

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Jan 2014 02:23:45
Whilst I agree a transition period was needed the buys were both expensive and poor for the club with exception to Henderson I believe most will agree on. All other buys were excessivly over priced and with zero effect on the team resulting on them being bad buys you can dress it up whichever way you like but kenny wanted them the club bought them they didn't work out and that's the managers fault. Just as some people are bitching about some of brendans buys. Are you also saying brendans buys are the clubs fault as well?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2014 02:28:26
Ps I still see it as a cheap shot at the owner's to try and blame them for supplying someone the tools to do their job just because kenny bought the wrong tools it isn't their fault

Agree0 Disagree0

Red rum, blaming the owners is another excuse for daglishs incompetentence in the transfer market. He knew and the so called fans would back him that theses were the players to make Liverpool great. All have proven to be failures, Suarez was scouted before Dalglishs time.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've spoke with Kenny and he did confirm that Carroll, Adam and Downing were the work of Commolli. He Said Suarez was bought to pair up with Torres. Kenny also wanted Aguero and Hazard instead of Adam but apparently Commolli insisted that Adam came out of the econometric model more favourable. Same can be said for Messi who he wanted over Downing.
Kenny also hooked Sterling and Flanno out of the academy to give them their first taste of first team football, clearly showing his eye for talent. So as you can see from the aforementioned, that period of poor form isn't technically down to Kenny. If Commoli had listened to him rather than place trust in an econometric model, we'd be world beaters now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kenny won us a trophy. I'd kill for that right now

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the point was missed. I am not having a go at the owners, in fact quite the opposite. I am very happy with them as they have proven to be very supportive for both Kenny and Brendan. I do believe it was down to their lack of experience in football that they signed off such deals to go through, but it is not about finding a scapegoat, and I am not here to defend Kenny.

Even if the players cost £5m each I still agree that Kenny should have been sacked. He chose the players and changed the playing style, but ultimately it didn't work out and as I said, in football, if the players don't perform then the manager is usually the one who is sacrificed, and quite rightly so.

As for Brendan's buys I am saying exactly the same. He chooses the players and if the team doesn't perform then it is his fault. I don't judge Brendan on the price paid for his transfers as he is not responsible. I judge Brendan on overall team performance and progress, and as we all know Brendan is doing a fantastic job in that respect.

I hope you can see the point I am trying to make. Nothing is being "dressed up" here.

KK did some weird things.
He bought a great crossser of the ball in Downing and a striker who can head in Carrol(I think they started 1 match together? often downing replacing carrol as a sub) This was quite frankly bemusing.

Weren't 75% of adam's goals penalties?

On the purhcase of Carroll. We knew he was out for 8-10 weeks with a (knee?) injury, still bought him knowing he wouldn't feature till our last few games and paid £35 million. he made a difference in 1 game that season(when we beat city 3-1 scoring 2 goals) we could have EASILY waited till summer and spent cash on a player who offered the squad more.

Kenny also had a flaw that he thought the squad HAD to be British based. Yes it's good to see UK youngsters coming through and playing, but should we suffer financially for that sake?NO
