Why are people on this site so eager to se the back of Reina? When Torres, Mascherano etc jumped ship he stayed loyal when he could have gone pretty much anywhere at the time. How about we show him some loyalty back and show the respect he shows to us fans.
Jamie red. {Ed001's Note - actually he came close to joining Arsenal, only for Arsenal to let the deal fall through when he was happy to sign for them.}

When was this please Eds? {Ed001's Note - a couple of years back now. I can't remember the dates, but it was after Rafa left and before Torres went.}

I would normally say if a player wasnt world class but comitted, iwould be more than happy to see them at liverpool fc. But when it comes down to goalkeepers, you cannot afford to have somone as bad as reina in the most important position on the pitch
AnonymousWoolback

His overall clean sheet record is intimidating he has been a great servant to lfc giv credit where its due id rather have him than de gee lets get some strikers and leave reina where hes at

01 Jan 2013 23:13:06
iff liverpool where to splash some cash on 2 world class attacking players like Turan and Hulk top 4 would be a certain? what do you think Eds {Ed001's Note - I don't think two players would be enough to change anything. What if those two got injured?}

Ed001's - What if they don't get injured? {Ed001's Note - Turan always does pick up knocks and Hulk is just not a good player, never understood the hype around him. The word average sums him up! Plus we need a defensive midfielder more than anything right now, neither of those cover that hole at all.}

I highly doubt Sturridge will be playing tomorrow(although i think he will hit the ground running)I think it's just to soon maybe, in the F.A cup

Square tomato

Depends what kind of nick he's in. I've read a few things saying he's been at Melwood for a few days now. If correct, he's probably been involved in match preparation training for the Sunderland game otherwise there would be no point to an early arrival. I would also add that an Anfield debut is a difficult thing to get through, maybe he'll play the last 20 mins or so to get it out of the way. All speculation of course but at least we have some positives to discuss ;)

As for the game, I'm going 3-1 Liverpool with Sturridge to get a goal after coming on as 2nd half sub.

Let me dream,

Len

who r u eds???
ali g

They are everyone and no one

They are the past, the present, the future. They are, were and will be. They are love, they are hate. For them time, space and dimension are meaningless. RED LENIN

They are aliens who visit our galaxy once every zillion secs

They are a gestalt entity utilising the combined brainpower of all football supporters in the northern hemisphere.

They feed on your mind. {Ed001's Note - which is why we are always bloody hungry these days!}

I like to think of the eds all meeting in a flat of an evening, answering questions and eating takeaways.......I picture them as like a sportier version of the 'BIG BANG THEORY' Sheldon C'002'PER is the whipsmart génius lol

People need to realize that fixing this team was never, ever going to be a 1 year thing. This isn't a team that finished 1 point out of 4th the last few years. The last 3 years we've finished 8th, 6th, 7th. We've gone from 7 pts to 10 pts to 17 pts behind the top 4. We weren't even close. Throwing money at the problem to bring in one or 2 established star players (if any were even willing to come) wasn't going to truly fix the problems.

This is very much a bottom up rebuild. It would be great if we could somehow sneak into 4th this year. It would sort of jump start things a bit, but it was always not likely.

01 Jan 2013 23:11:15
Mate fixing liverpool is to bring liverpool standard players not mediocore players and thinking yeah with some luck will sneak top4 that is never going to happen unless your playing American soccer then Real football.

Just look some difference

We have

Suarez
Borini
Sturridge(if we sign him)
Ince(if we sign him)
Sterling

Compare to our rivals

United have

Rooney
Persie
Chicarito
Wellback

City have

Aguero
Dzeko
Balloteli
Tevez

Chelsea have

Hazard
Torres
Mata
And will buy another striker

Arsenal have

Giround
Walcot
Podoski
Carzola

Only Suarez can be compared with them interms of Quality so we deserve where we are and many many years untill we start to buy liverpool standard players.

Great post mate, bit of sence for a change

Billynwa

Well man city only have the squad that they do because of the stupied amount of money they have continuasly spent since 2008 with how much money there owners have no one can compete with that. Also ince cant be that bad as united are fighting with us for his signiture. Arsenal could lose walcott in january and personaly i think what we have is better than Giround, Podolski and Carzola.

Carzola??????

Yes city have spent, but at least they got a title and play some quality football

If sturridge is announced tomorrow does anyone think he might be on the bench against sunderland?
Kopite94

01 Jan 2013 22:07:08
Kevin Gameiro 25 yrs striker
2005-2008 Strasbourg 58 (10)
2008-2011 Lorient 108 (5 0)
2011- Paris Saint-Germain 46 (16)

french international, bought by psg for 8 mil but kept out of the team by none other than ZLATAN

Good buy or loan???
a strong target suposedly
ali g

Good loan I would say. If we had an option to buy if he was successful then even better.

MIKEY

Not going to happen. hed rather stay at psg and be on the bench than come to us and sit on the bench.

He is quality...i have seen him play..
skillfull and decent finish...better than borini any day., ..

He will not sit on the bench if he comes to us. He's very effective.

01 Jan 2013 21:58:39
The sunderland game already looks like a draw or loss..cos anytime results go our way, we tend not to keep our side of the bargain

01 Jan 2013 23:04:46
Typically that is how it happens...however, hopefully it will be different this time :-)

I have travelled to 6 games in Anfield over my life and we have always won each game, do not fear for I am travelling tomorrow to the match and I know we'll keep this streak going. Fear not!

Irish Redman

The sunderland game looks like a win u t*t, same as every other game the night before, sort ur head out.

I think we should all chip in and buy you a season ticket, Irish Redman :)

01 Jan 2013 21:49:01
Is it true that we're interested in signing Pancho Villa?

Thats a revolutionary idea

cozinoz

No - it's Pancho Gonzalez! (You have to be over sixty to get this joke!)
DM2013

Not heard that but there was rumors of David villa on loan although they have now been rubbished.

Pancho Villa aye, now there's a fella that knows how to shoot !! Beardsley's Boot's

BR is at it again! 'Judge us on the second half of the season.' Apparently the business end of the season consists of the last 10 games of the season when things are decided??

I have wanted to give BR the benefit of the doubt but this is worrying talk -Talk of a manager who's aspirations are not those of winning the premiership or getting in the top four - more of a manager who puts importance on the last ten games to get them out of trouble.

I understand the point to a certain degree in that you need to be in a challenging position towards the last third of the season then push on. However, what message does this send out to the squad about consistency of performances and results over the period of a full season? Also have a look at the last 10 league fixtures - they are not as difficult as the preceding ones bar one or two matches - is BR 'setting the scene' for this?

What other manager of a big team in the EPL would be saying this? I doubt if Ferguson, Manchini or Rafa are?

It's a cliche but concentrate on winning the next game and take it game by game. Points are built up over a season and if you have aspirations you want consistency from the outset. Some may say BR means this in the context of this season but why oh why not just keep your mouth shut and say we will try our best to win our next match.

I hope the transfer window works out well for us we do have a great second half of the season and we kick on in 2013 but I still think FSG need to look a getting an experienced man in as a director of football to give some direction while BR gains experience.

RedDoc

BR coming in and winning the PL with a team that has finished mid table for last 4 seasons is the equivelant of Michael Laudrup winning the PL with Swansea this season

Try ur best to give BR a fair chancr man we can keep Going into the start of a new transition every season

Soon to be followed by "just us next season"

Can the man say anything without you jumping on his back about it. Do you hear united fans cry about what ferguson say's to the media? No.
derryred

02 Jan 2013 00:31:12
Derryred mate are you kid? Why would united fans cry when they have got manager who is winning trophys and have made them one of the most succesful club in england at the sametime he is one of the successful manager the british has everseen. Fergie can talk whatever he wants and united fans won't complain as far as trophys are in cabinet.

01 Jan 2013 21:46:17
Who's a more likely loan signing, jeffren or gameiro?

Fingers crossed Gameiro

01 Jan 2013 21:43:19
top 4 will be difficult this season, tottenham are playing to well and are 8 points ahead with 18 matches left.
lets say we win 12 draw 3 and lose 3 tottenham will have to lose 23 points from their last 18 matches 5 draws 5 loses.
we lost too many points already, we will need a great run.
the next 5 matches we have sunderland man u man c arsenal norwich 10/11 points needed to have a chance.

If BR got top 4 this season he would deserve a statue outside Anfield

LFC were mid table WITH kuyt maxi bellamy carroll let alone without them and without replacements

None of them players you mentioned apart from bellamy really set our team alight last season i do agree that top 4 is unlikely, i think it more or less went out the window when dempsey wasn't signed, not that it would've been easy had we signed him.
derryred

01 Jan 2013 23:27:28
Then Harry Redknapp should definitely get statue after taking spurs from relegation team to champions league team

I hate how people call that Tottenham side a relegation side!!

the same tottenham side had finished in the top 10 comfortably for the last few seasons, they had a bad start that was it

The scenario was exactly the same as Roy, and would any of you have considered us a relegation side??

Hey all,

I think the key fixture for LIVERPOOL to finish in top 4 is Man Utd and Man City. If we manage to beat either of the 2, it would be virtually 6 points on our rivals Tottenham and Arsenal because I do not see them being able to beat Man Utd or Man City. Off course, we have to beat our rivals for 4th also - Everton, Arsenal and Tottenahm.

We can only afford to drop a maximum of 9 points from here on. That could be any 3 teams, luckily for us our bogey team Stoke city is out of the way.

Lets rock Anfield in 2013.

mgz

01 Jan 2013 21:38:19
love this site but how people can come on here and say players wont be signing for us and giving percentages etc is their own opinion...its not facts...we all read papers and other media outlets and come to our own conclusions, then we post them on here making out we are ITK.
villa and sneijder arent out of the question, i personally think their wages will drop considerably if they decide to move and when you take into account we are trying to offload cole and downing...thats around 150k a week and i personally would swap either even with our poor strength in depth.

01 Jan 2013 21:32:47
can we presume that Strurridge will be announced after the Sunderland game tomorrow? {Ed002's Note - If you want.}

01 Jan 2013 21:20:38
Eds .. Will Sturridge feature tomorrow? .. The deal should be announced tomorrow right?

01 Jan 2013 21:14:19
For what it's worth I think the we will see the emergence of a brilliant striker later this season when Yesil starts to make an appearance.

Chris in Tamworth

Now he's back from injury hopefully he'll get a few runs as a sub for the last 15 mins.

Couldn't agree more.

phillyred

01 Jan 2013 22:20:52
if he's given a chance!! Although BR only gives youngsters a chance when he has no other choice...again, why did we buy him (£1M) if he was to play in the reserves only...The mind buggles, as well as other things!!

Hope so chris.
If we get gameiro on loan though then he might not get a chance.
I really want him to get a couple of games this year to see if he can live up to the hype.

MIKEY

I rate the lad, just can't see it happening this season.

02 Jan 2013 11:21:03
I really doubt it Chris mate.

By his own admission when he signed he said he wanted to be in the first team with 2 years.

We took 2 forwards from the ressies in Suso and Sterling so they needed to be replaced.

For sure he looks a great young talent mate, and i hope he continues to improve as he has done, but i think it's a little early for him, and i dount he'd have made his debut yet if we had more striking options.

01 Jan 2013 20:40:14
Eds, my friend and I were discussing Liverpool's season so far and he thinks that there may be a problem at board level. Perhaps a disagreement within the board room which has left a few sour apples behind. Its just just purely speculation on his part but I was just wondering if this is the case? He also went on to say that he thinks it started around the time Kenny did the T-shirt thing for Suarez. And that Tom Werner was the man to pull the plug on Kenny, against John Henry's wishes.

It does kind of make sense as there has been a lot of PR blunders and also with the transfer kerfuffle at the end of the summer window. And also with Damien Comolli's interview saying that John Henry agreed that Kenny was the right man for the job.

Do you or could you shed some light on this(if there is any light to shed of course)?

As I said, it's purely speculation. {Ed002's Note - It is all nonsense. The reasons for Dalglish leaving are clear and have been dealt with.}

01 Jan 2013 21:10:25
This is more geared towards the Summer Window now:
But, I believe that Isco and Muniain would be ideal fits for BR's system. Isco would be the tactician in the middle that this team lacks, and Muniain would give depth to our wingers and make Sterling fight for a spot. This would drastically improve the side for present and for the future helping mold young Suso and Sterling. The help is needed and i think after getting a few forwards this window (Sturridge, and possibly Gameiro and Ince) that width and a #10 are the next necessary steps for the club. After these purchases, this club will truly be strong. Thoughts? Hopeful for a great window for the club! YNWA -Jordan

Why would two of the world brightest young stars want to join liverpool? a mid table team without champions league.

I doubt we would spend that sort of money to buy competition for sterling.
derryred

01 Jan 2013 21:04:48
David Villa will not be joining LFC 100%

Mike B

If he's not going to be 100% we don't want him!

Walcott to sign new arsenal deal ( ) {Ed052's Note - this is the Liverpool rumour site ate}

01 Jan 2013 20:59:07
Hi eds do u no of any interest in Taarabt eveytime I see him he really impresses me young, dynamic full of energy and really skillful I'm sure he could make the step up.many thanks and happy new year to u all great site great work thanks for ur continued hard work {Ed052's Note - I highly doubt any interest. Overpayed, over expensive, over rated}

Fancy an LFC fan being taken in by a couple of stepovers. tsk tsk.

01 Jan 2013 20:56:34
Hey eds heard the rumours of David Villa and understand the asking price is 16million, really don't understand us paying that amount for a proven goal scorer and world cup winner {Ed052's Note - we are not going to pay that much for him because we are not going to sign him. Why believe stupid made up stories that are only to ssll newspapers}

01 Jan 2013 20:51:23
In:

Sturridge (ST/MF)

Ince (MF/ST)

Gamiero (ST)

Coentraou (LB)

First 3 are actual targets...coentrou? No chance.

01 Jan 2013 20:46:26
Moose on says J Cole is on his way to West Ham. Moose is generally unreliable however he is a Hammers Fan so could be something in it.

Moose is a buffoon, cant even speak never mind predict somthing right!

01 Jan 2013 20:44:33
Hi eds, I'm the "options" guy. What I mean is, who is available that would be good for liverpool, preferably outside of the BPL. {Ed052's Note - thete are hundereds of people. We dont have time to go through every player in the world. We have told you where interest lies}

01 Jan 2013 20:38:02
Noticed a few posters on here today have stated that buying an experienced player in this window would be better for the squad. I couldn't agree more with this.

We have just signed Sturridge and he can be classed as still a young player, and possibly the arrival of Ince is another. This gives us Sturridge, Suso, Sterling, Kelly, Ince, Shelvey, Henderson and Borini. This totals 8 players from the first team squad. You could even add Wisdom and Coates to that list which makes it 10.

We do lack a quality experienced player in mould of say an Sneijder or Sanchez. Whether we sign either of these is anyone's guess, but someone of this calibure would be a huge lift to the team in such an hectic and vital period.

This next run of 5 games is vital to us, and we could possibly be propelled into a position to mount some kind of challenge to the European places. I do really hope we go all out for that quality player who represents good value for the present rather than just a future profit. A truly top class striker or attacking midfielder is what we've been crying out for this season.

Admittedly we can't any longer attract any player like we used to due to our current position, but there is players who have true quality out there and available to us. The clubs such as City, United, Chelsea etc won't be able to sign all of them. Coming to Liverpool would give a top player more assurances of playing regular football week in week out.

We are still (depending on upcoming games) capable of qualifying for the CL, but we need a top class signing to come in and aid the squad. We can still offer players a good salary, European football, and the honour of playing for our club.

I'm certain there are still players out there that would welcome the chance of coming to our club in its current position.

Everyone has their views on whether the Sneijder story is true or not and I have to admit its pretty hard to believe. I do doubt us signing him as his preferred choice is United. Although do United have the money to sign him?

If we do believe the report that we have offered him a three year deal, and whatever the wages would is this so far fetched? Would FSG show this kind of intent? You have to agree signing Sneijder for roughly 9-10 million at 28 is still a good piece of business.

People say "his wages would be 200k a week". Couldn't this be offered in form of I.e. 125-150k a week and the rest in form of goal related of position related performances.

I really don't see Gerrard spitting his dummy out if Sneijder came in on the same wages as him. Gerrard is 32 and reaching the end of his carrier whilst Sneijder is a top performer also but younger. At 10 million I really don't see why we shouldn't propose an offer to the player. Even offering a package to Sanchez would make sense to me they are quality players who could be available. We are still a world famous club who can attract top players, so I'd be glad (even if rejected or not) be going in for these world class talents.

Jonesred

For all we know we could've been in for these world class players and got rejected instantly i agree about an experienced player coming in.
derryred

Sometimes we all seem to take our talisman for granted. Steven Gerrard was and still is a better player than Wesley Sneider will ever hope to be. Yes Steven hasn't been at is best but keep him fit and then watch him go from strength to strength. Just look at the last few games, passing is better he is covering more ground and is scoring again.

Gerrard still better than Sneijder? No wonder you left no name!

seriously the window opens soon, why isnt there a barrage of new and exciting rumours??

its so slow, whats going on...sturridge gameiro?? ince? anyone else on the radar that we havent heard of yet?

tom1975

Mate its half 8 on day 1. Get a grip.

Could we possibly get cabaye/ are we looking for any centre mids. Happy New Year!

Well some big rumours are as follows ...messi, ronaldo , falco, alonso.nemar all in in by the end of the week .from a top source THE ANFIELD CAT.

Sturridge will sign tomorrow at 09:02:56
Gamerio(?) will sign once he can get on a plane to England , and P ince will sing once the time machine is invented and he can book a ticket taking him back to 1997 .. (there is a queue so he may have to wait for a bit) .. but its a sure thing.
There is also an up the sleeve smoke screen signing that will be unveiled when the planets are in near perfect formation -- I can't give more details than that for now .. will keep you updated once few things happened around the world involving a butterfly or 2

01 Jan 2013 19:58:25
Hi eds, I love the work you's do here. I'm wondering if liverpool could sign a Barcelona attacker in this window. Messi is obviously not an option, but Pedro, Sanchez, Villa, Cuenca and Tello can't all play. Pedro, in my opinion, is highly under-rated and I think Barcelona won't let him go because they see his class. But the other four players are fighting for the last place in the 3-man front line. My question is, would liverpool consider one or two of these, and if so, which ones? Thanks and replies would be appreciated. {Ed002's Note - Sanchez and Villa will be leaving, probably in the summer in order to raise funds.}

01 Jan 2013 19:54:17
Was wondering whether this rumour of FSG giving BR £40 mill is true? I personally can't see it and can never see them spending big again.

Fsg have given a decent amount to spend per window, it has however been spent all wrong for the last three seasons.
suarez and enrique were that last two decent signings ..both not british by the way

this summer they spent 30 million, they ll likely spend 20 in january thats 50 million. rodgers bought allen who was overpriced borini who was also overpriced, sahin who isnt used likewise assaidi. now sturridge for 12 million who i personally believe is a good addition finally.
we spend more money per window than most clubs with the exception of city chelsea united yet we are still falling short because the money is being wasted. arsenal and spurs spent heavily because they sold their best players in rvp and modric.

i dont understand this need to constantly buy british or in constantly buying unproven talent.

i am hoping we bring in sturridge and gameiro. give us more options up front , the more comeptition for places the better

Borini, 5 games played in the wrong position and he was overpriced? Let them all have a season at least, before passing judgement

01 Jan 2013 20:37:36
They have never spent big and never will they gave Dalglish 30M as they gave Rodgers 30-35M to spend. Our net spend in two and a half years under FSG is 60-65M in transfer market which is not good enough to compete with big boys at the sametime is not their fault coz they didn't know how expensive is to run Epl club forget Liverpool fc. We just have to hope players who Rodgers brings they make difference or else things are going to get worst. {Ed002's Note - Four teams spent more than Liverpool this summer, three of which are above Liverpool in the league. Two teams spent more than Liverpool last season. This constant whining about lack of spending really is pretty embarrassing.}

40 mill aint a lot of backing these days....

Agreed. Any money that has been spent this season was not spent wisely. The majority went on Borini and Allen. Allen has so far shown himself to be no better than Spearing who he replaced; personally I think Spearing is a better tackler. And who can say that Borini has had more impact than any of Kuyt, Bellamy or Maxi who have all left. The really key thing this window is that whoever is brought in improves the side and has an impact on results. We cannot afford to keep spending big money on second rate players.

G

01 Jan 2013 22:30:49
Ed2 mate you don't count the wages when your quick to defend Fsg they have made us hadicape when comes to buy players everyone knows including 3-4years kid what takes to challange in highest level. They have cut massive wages which its taking its toll and making huge difference. When FSG came in we needed to buy worldclass players but they were quick to cut the wages so we had to settle for young/pontential players which has backfired. If Rodgers brings sturridge and ince and doesn't work then we are doomed for another 3/4 years coz they don't have resources which takes to challange big boys neither have money like chelsea or city or united who can offer decent wages to get class or world class players which we badly need {Ed002's Note - The wages that were cut were from players such as El Zhar, Degen, Konchesky, Insua, Jovanovic, Pulsen, Aquilani et al.. The most recent figures available show Liverpool with the fourth highest wage bill after Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. I really don't think that the owners have handicapped the club.}

FSG have not given out any of their own money for players. They have let managers and football directors spend the money very poorly. The only outlay FSG have done is the purchase of the club. So you can't really moan. To be fair Roy Hodgson spent the least. Kenny and Comoli were the ones who wasted the most money. They wasted a £100m spent on players worth no more than £40m.

01 Jan 2013 19:52:51
In retrospect, is anyone happy we did not get Dempsey in the summer? Or is it just me again?

Billy Nomates

And johnson

And johnson and sigurdsson

And Ramirez...oh wait :(

Cant wait to see Sturridge play for us. Lets give the lad a chance and lets get behind him.

01 Jan 2013 19:51:03
Rumors. Round anfield/melwood of an early hours medical tomorrow straight from airport foreign arrival who cud it be....

Barcelona player......

Alexi lalas

Excuse me! I haven't posted in a long while but nice to see I haven't been forgotten though, thanks posters.
ALB.

Obviously not a highly rated player otherwise there would be hints of who where in for. Plus a medical already? What happened to agreeing fees and personal terms?

01 Jan 2013 19:47:36
We should sell Downing while he is in good form. If his form dips between now and the summer we will most likely be stuck with him for another season.

Also it is nice to see we have gained some interest in Cole from QPR, as he had a good couple of games when Rodgers played him.

Hopefully we will find replacements for them in this window.

IMO Honda and Sanchez would fit the bill. We have enough youngsters and future stars, and we need players who will go straight into the starting line-up.

Red Lee

Honda and sanchez...someone is living in dreamland. these are the types of players we should be buying but wont be buying

sanchez cost barca 32 million, they wouldnt let him go for less than 25, honda maybe a little more doable but we kinda let that boat sail already and rodgers has said he will be in the market for a no 10 in summer not this window

tom1975

We can afford both quite easily! We paid £20m each for Downing and Henderson, we paid £35m for Carroll.

The owners have the cash, but they are being very cautious due to how much we wasted under KD.

Red Lee

01 Jan 2013 19:44:36
Wow wow how good was Theo Walcott tonight?

world beater my ass!

Dave-LFC

Lets judge a player on one bad performance. By that logic Messi against chelsea last year isnt a world beater.

He was saving himself for the fa cup next weekend away to Mansfield ...ha ha ha

Always going to happen he had his one good game in five against Newcastle.

Hi eds, I was just reading the transfer odds on '' and they have strange things going on there, including low odds of Fernando Torres leaving chelsea this January. As a lifelong liverpool fan, I would love nothing more than to see people like him back at our club. Liverpool are currently second favourite to sign him, behind Atletico Madrid. If chelsea sign Demba Ba and Radamel Falcao, do you think they would let him go? And if so, do you think he would return to the kop to try and rediscover his old self? I'd like your view on this, and replies from anyone would be great. Thanks, YNWA {Ed002's Note - Torres to Liverpool is something you should have no problem tracking down in the search engine.}

sturridge will sign 2moz an will be at the liverpool sunderland match

Can't wait for that!

Yawn!

01 Jan 2013 19:21:44
a win tomorrow and we are right back in the mix, we d be 8th 31 points in a good position for the second half of the campaign. we can go and do united too

The truth is out there and this aint it!

But we won't win, we'll draw. You know that, I know that and rogers knows that.

01 Jan 2013 19:13:08
Hi eds, i posted earlier today just wanted to add to it, alot of speculation at the min regarding Pepe Reina, He is not going to be leaving liverpool, he loves the club, yes he wants Champions League football but he believes in the project at liverpool, and the Jack Butland speculation which is true is just because we want him as our number 2, obviously he is young and he will be reina's successor.

So young Jack will spend the next 9 years waiting for Reina to retire at 40?

Can't see it myself, but stranger things have been know to happen, not very often but there is hope

I think Reina will leave at the end of this season, so it make sense to get someone in now and have half a season to get into the role. He might not be considered experiened enough to just walk into the starting line-up if he joined in the summer.

Square Red

I doubt we will sign Butland we dont have a good trackrecord with no.2 GKs in recent years behind Reina Brad was clinically depressed and Doni is currently clinically depressed not the best of advertisement for a future England no.1 is it?

01 Jan 2013 19:08:24
Are we really expecting FSG to back Rodgers this window? I believe we will add Sturridge plus another on loan but the owners will and should invest heavy in the summer. Interesting to hear Paul Ince doesn't know if its the right move for him? The side is being built on youth and with Sturridge, shelves, Henderson, sterling and suso etc now is the best time to join. I can see him joining in Jan.

Hooper has been bandied about, he is the type if finisher we need, an Aldo type. Any truth that this is likely?

Great site ...

Im not sure if it would be a good move for paul ince, hes in his 40s after all.

01 Jan 2013 18:56:52
Personally I'm very happy with the Sturridge deal! We need a striker who knows where the goal is and he is that lad.. People say he's a bit selfish but the selfish ones are the ones winning golden boots! Besides the last selfish player we bought (suarez) didn't turn out too bad.

Happy new year to everyone

01 Jan 2013 19:29:42
Mate we will know when sturridge will play for us coz till now I don't think he is right signing for us but everything will be clear once he starts playing for us

01 Jan 2013 18:51:01
Utd.will probably win league this season because they spent on 20million on an experienced world class player.

If they had spent 6 million on Tom Ince they would probably not win the league... I agree with FSGs transfer policy on the whole but if you want results immediately, you've got to buy well proven class players and they are not normally out of kindergarten and ready to be paid 20K a week to win you the league!

Yes but we lfc are not in any position to attract top cless players atm!!!

Still think (and hope of course!) city will win it, united were clear last season much later and city caught them up. Chelsea with rafa wont be too far behind. Its too early to say really... Jdog

Yes we can attract top class players, that's the media brain washing you. If a " top class " player joined us tomorrow they should be confident that their contribution would guarantee CL football. If not are they top class?

I'm sick of people suggesting that you can't do this, you can't attract them. Arsenal haven't won f..k all for god knows how long, did spurs last win
anything. Man city attracted many top players ( granted daft wages) when they had wine 1FA cup in 50 years!

We've been in decline for 20 years yet we still sone more than most

We are bigger that any player, always have been, always will be

Go Rafa Go

Hopefully Chelsea as the other two are just mercenaries

01 Jan 2013 18:30:05
I think we'll sign Sturbridge ince and maybe a surprise like Walcott or alonso or I hope anyway .... Happy new year every1

01 Jan 2013 18:28:37
Anyone else really lookin forward to seeing what sturridge can bring to us when he gets a run of 5 or 6 game's ?? I love when a player isn't over hyped when he sign's and is tryin to prove people , all too often we hear and see on here" the missing piece of the puzzle " phrase , carrol , downing , Cole etc and they never seem to work out for us, ! But here's hoping from one red here that the lad puts his head down and shows his true potential and prove the doubters wrong , johnny d

He s not the best in the world but he has goals in him, he adds to what we have got. i hope he starts scoring for fun

Strurridge is quick as well will add much needed pace to the front line

Suarez gameiro sturridge is a good frontline.

sturridge and gameiro would give us many options up front with bornin coming back maybe ince downing and sterling . thats a lot of options for the front three positions. and this is something we need. sterling has been poor of late , he needs competition for his spot

01 Jan 2013 18:06:38
I tell you what, that Gaston Ramires looks a good player doesn't he ;)

Disney!

He is a good player. Bearing in mind he's in a new culture playing a much different style of football than in Italy with Bologna.

At Liverpool he's be a lot more productive working through the middle than he has been at Southampton but he's done himself no harm at all by moving to the Premier League and going to a minnow proving himself fearlessly.

He's one of the few who obviously didn't care about Champions League as a condition prior to moving to one of the toughest leagues in the World. He's brave and glory favours the bold.

And we should have purchased him over Allen any day of the week. Luke loads of the fans were saying, but some oddly thought he was overhyped and overrated. Allen had no other clubs after him apart from us, Ramirez had a whole host.

Bored Sydney?

The Irish Rover

1 or 2 good games a season isnt good enough he's a decent player not amazing

If you bought him instead of allen we would be conceding alot more goals just have to watch the aston villa game to see what happens when allen doesnt play

I tell you what Disney. That Bebe looks a player. PMSL.

Club is working hard to get the Tom Ince deal wrapped up. It nearly done.

Alexis Sanchez is a name that will be cropping up over the next few days. We are talking with them.

We are talking with a few clubs regarding players, I am told BR wants 4 players, all attacking. Coates will not be leaving,

DB9

Sanchez sweet feet good brain would love him but think it unlikely hope you are right though...

a forward line of

Wondering how much sanchez would cost us though..likely 20 million too much

Sneijder salary 6m

Gerrard £7.28m, Suarez £6.24m

Joe Cole £6.74m

So would sneijder salary be such an issue? Especially if we offloaded Cole?

Jimbob

Is that jumbo from LFC accounts department ....... Thought so

{Ed002's Note - The Sneijder salary is NET of tax and other deduction in euros.}

Haha we ain't getting him mate its all rubbish

I would get back on that juice from last night if I was you. It might relax you a little.

Mighty reds

Liverpool would need to pay £12m a year to equal his current wage.

Why do we seem to have such a problem with Stoke? The other top teams manage to dispose of them well enough. We let them worry us too much, we give them too much respect! Not suggesting they are a bad side, they aren't at all, but we don't seem to treat games against west ham or Norwich or even Everton with as much caution!

PS before people start the 'we're not a top team anymore' garbage, it's plain to see our results have not reflected the quality of our thin, but still great squad.

Nothing to do we played them at Stoke and they played away today? Look at their home stats thus season its a fortress!

Because we let them bully us!

We got battered by three try's to one. Suarez missed a conversion or two.

01 Jan 2013 17:06:35
Results have gone for us again today and we have a chance tomorrow of overtaking a few teams above us. Let's also hope for Southampton and Newcastle wins.

hi eds what are our possibilities of signing gameiro what with sturridge all but done. is he an alternative to ince or an addition? also are coates and pacheco out of the club. seems unfair as they havent had a good chance.
p.s heard there is a good chance messi is coming but keep it hush hush yeah? ;) {Ed052's Note - if there is truth in the Gameiro rumour, it would no doubt be an alternative to Ince.}

01 Jan 2013 16:58:26
We could do with a van Persie type of player, hate united but got to respect quality players.

So a world class striker?

We have Suaréz

01 Jan 2013 16:55:39
ed's if we sold coates do you reckon that would pee suarez off? He recommended him didnt he? {Ed002's Note - Sure if he were a complete flake.}

Suarez has many friends in Liverpool and there is nothing to worry about. Suarez is a top professional and stuff like that is just for weak characters.
Suarez definatelly is a strong lad.

Stoffe

Coates is tall and physical but really looks very slow. Won't make it in EPL imo. Think he would be brilliant in Italy.

A cadbury flake?

Does anybody else have a deep deep hatred for spurs?? why the hell do they get so many good players?

Lionred

London club and challenging for top 4 past 3 seasons

It does my nut too mate. We are so much bigger of a club and have a bigger income than Spurs but Levy has ambition to bring in quality superstars and we don't. That's why they are always around top 4/5 and we are sitting in 10th. No balls our club

Because there owner will pay what it takes to get them {Ed002's Note - It should be pointed out that Liverpool has spent nearly double the net Spurs spend over the past 5 years.}

So many? Not convinced they have more than 4 or 5... Bale, Lloris, Dembele, Vertonghen, Walker.

phillyred

God, i just cant stand them

indian scouser ynwa

Levy > Ayre. Pretty much the difference, in my opinion...

I completely agree. I think they are really just a flash in the pan that has lasted too long. They've managed to recruit good players who could certainly play in the UCL but I feel like they neither have lasting value, nor the same dignity of top class clubs that, despite our rebuilding and drop in footballing status in the last few years, we still have because of our strange ability to be able to dominate and beat even the best team in the world, on our day. Unfortunately, our staple has become inconsistency and this means we can also lose to the worst teams in our own (slightly less impregnable) fortress, Anfield. With someone of Rogers intelligence, enthusiasm for football and calm and respectable confidence, not to mention his charm and knack of also coming off sounding like we can agree with him when he speaks about anything. The stable and responsible maintaining of this huge business by our inexperienced but resourceful owners, who are willing to learn quickly from mistakes and from everyone involved at all levels, is going to make sure that we are going to be built up efficiently and able to operate at the best level for years. Our academy has truly lived up to some of the previous claims of being one of the best in the world, and this season, despite losing 3 of their very best players to the first team (Suso, Sterling and Wisdom, all of whom have been playing quite wonderfully and adapting very well, while also learning very quickly and keeping a level head about themselves)the u21s are still undefeated and looking ripe with even more wonderful talent, all backed by the unquestionably brilliant Rodolfo Borrell. Add to this that we're always expecting more of ourselves. No matter how we do, it is not only fans and the club who feel disappointed with our underachieving (despite being labelled a mid-table team by some), but critics, rivals, other managers and pundits all over who always think we can do better and this should go to show just how much we can achieve and just how good we are pretty much just because we are Liverpool Football Club. Everyone is aware that we will succeed soon and we will once again be feared on the battlegrounds of Europe as we always were when we did play in the UCL. Let's all give it everything but also remember that it takes a lot of time to do it the way we're doing and it'll be tough to achieve but we will do it and we will be looking forward to every match, expectant that our Reds will play quickly, technically, shooting till the keepers' need to change their gloves and scoring goals in the bucket-loads. I love the players at our club, many for their excellence on the pitch, most of them for the good-natured, respectful manner off the field and all of them for their passion and love and determination for their club.
Y.N.W.A
Red Sid

Lets be honest, Our club has been awful in the market for the last 4 years or so especially since Rafa left and spurs have improved ever since harry took over ..
Plus a lot to do with ambition I suppose, I strongly believe if we want we could still get an awful lot of quality players within our budget..the logic behind our business atleast up until last summer was rather weird..

Spurs were more than willing to steal West Ham's Olympic Stadium bid and move the Club to Stratford. Just imagine if Liverpool F.C were to move to Crosby or Kirby, which is about half the distance, they'd be huge up roar from the heart of the Liverpool fans.

That's what Spurs were/are willing to do, also they are willing to pay a top striker (Adebayor) top money to ensure he's playing for them. They offer more wagers to players than we do (Sigurdsson). Also to ensure players prior to the close of the window, they pay the asking price instead of fluffing around and leaving the fans, the players and the new manager under resourced for players, even loaning out are most expensive player.

According to you Spurs seem to be better run than LFC

What an embarrassing post. So because Spurs are doing well and we are not at the moment we should all hate Spurs. Grow up. Its called Jealousy. Its like when ppl say that results have gone for us today. The only result that I want to go our way is our result. Would results have gone our way if we lose? When Liverpool were top of the league do you think we cared about anyone else? Fair play to Spurs and good luck to them but I support Liverpool and that's all I care about! Jonnybarnes89-90

Hi Eds, Happy New Year. I know you have been asked before but having tried and failed with the search function I thought I'd ask again; I know that most newspapers are completely unreliable but if there were one or two 'more' reliable ones which would they be?

Andreas Weimann. He is young and talented, and ran rings around us but doesn't seem to always play. Is there any interest from any clubs? Perhaps in the summer?
Puzzled Red

Weimann looks a good prospect. I also like the look of Kerim Frei over at Fulham. Lots of good young talent around the league these days.

{Ed002's Note - Aside from an offer from Young Boys being turned down in the summer, there has been no interest I am aware of in Andreas Weimann.}

I too think Weimann will turn out to be a quality player

hi eds, all this talk of sturridge signing and hewill be confirmed soon as a lfc player, but has there actually been a fee agreed for him yet as ive heard no new anywhere not even on sky? {Ed052's Note - yes, about12m.}

01 Jan 2013 15:29:05
i heard downing might be leaving please tell me if he is or not because he is class and we bought him for 20mil and were gonna sell him for about 5mil most probably and sturridge is the only person that liverpool have confirmed that hes coming also whats going on with assaidi hes amazing didnt he get voted bundesliga player of the year thanks

I think you're confused. Downing is not 'class' and it was sahin who was bundesliga player of the year. Assaidi was signed from the erediverse.
Puzzled Red

Least Downing has 1 fan...

Downing has been consistent for the last 6-8 games.
he should be kept for now and if he continues playing well kept beyond the summer, if he lapses again flog him in summer. we need strength right now and he adds that

happy new year. more drinks for the anfield.

01 Jan 2013 14:39:11
Have to admit, Sturridge was never my first choice striker for us to sign, but really looking forward to seeing what he can do and what impact he will have on the way we play.

Would really love Sneijder to sign for us, however unlikely it may seem - we need a striker, but we also need a deadly accurate attacking mid to provide service for our front three, alongside Gerrard. Fingers crossed its possible eh

Happy new year eds and reds

01 Jan 2013 14:02:33
i know we are unlikely to do a deal for him at this moment in time

but do the club..still have a interest in adam matthews of celtic....i recall last year we were supposedly looking at him..but obviously with the change in management this change

We don't need a right back and looking at the reserves and under 18's we may not need to buy one for the next 10 years.

BthekingB

Yeah with the influx of young defenders we have at te club i really don't get why we would be looking for fullbacks.
derryred

Wisdom is our 3rd choice right back and he's better than him. I know both Kelly and Wisdom are CBs but this is possibly our strongest position on the pitch for numbers as well even flanagan and that's without any of the u18s....

I'd leave left back as well time to man up and either play robinson while enrique's injured or else loan him out to the championship to the end of the season.

Could do with another centre back not backup but i think both skrtel and agger are both too comfortable there and standards have slipped. Coates must not be fancied or else he'd have another 10 appearances so far this season and carragher is a legend but he knows himself his legs and his head are running at different speeds!

01 Jan 2013 13:47:15
Is it true that we can't officially sign anyone today because it's a bank holiday? Anyhow these are the players I expect us to sign, not that I'm "ITK" or anything..

- Sturridge
- Ince
- Gameiro (loan)
- Butland

01 Jan 2013 13:38:47
Not really bothered about Ince if he doesnt sign. Dont think he would get into the starting 11 anway. We have Suarez, Sturridge, Borini, Sterling, Downing, Suso and Assaidi to play upfront and on the wings.

Suso will drop back to try and play in his favored mid position, albeit attacking mid. also downing should be said as LB cover now. therefore there is a need for one more forward. the question is will it be ince or gameiro
lfc77

For me I see ince as a player that will develop really quickly but will have one or 2 good seasons then completely loose form. I see a similar pattern for sterling also. Ince is 20 years of age whereas sterling is 18. We have just bought a young England international in daniel sturridge. So it's almost a no brainer to go for someone like Kevin gamerio or off similar quality. Gamerio is currently being held back at psg (just like sturridge at Chelsea) and clearly he wants to be playing for France. Tom ince is not being held back at Blackpool and is the main man if you like. So why would you get two of the same players that are not first team (ince and sterling).

We have borini, Assaidi and suso who can play these positions. Personally suso shouldn't even be playing as a forward because he hasn't got the pace for it. He's a CAM no doubt. Your left with Suarez, sterling, sturridge, Assaidi, borini. Why get another prospect? Especially when you don't even use Assaidi for unknown reasons.

First team:
Suarez--gamerio--sturridge

Prospects:
Sterling--borini--Assaidi

Makes more sense IMO.

I wold not classify Borini as a prospect

01 Jan 2013 13:27:09
Is Wisdom injured Eds? {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

He will play tomorrow, with Johnson moved to left back.

Downing will play LB.

01 Jan 2013 13:22:05
Some of the fans on here are a joke. If I was to believe half of them and their sources we will be signing the following players in this window

Ba
Walcott
Villa
Ince
Lampard
Sneijder
Sturidge

And many more.....

The fans need to be realistic as we will be lucky if we sign 1 of these players. Do they forget the summer window already as it was all the same and we didn't even get Dempsey

eire red

Well you know how the song goes.. 2 out of 7 aint bad.

BthekingB

I fail to see how any of them are unrealistic signings with the exception of Villa and Sneijder but thats not because they are above us just their wages are unrealistic really.

Kopping a feel

We almost certainly won't take the risk on ba, vill and sneijder are unlikely as you said, lampard will stay at chelsea or move abroad probably, i think sturridge is more or less done, i'm more hopeful than expectant of walcott although it isn't likely and ince could be done.
derryred

What do you mean we'll be lucky to sign 1 of these players, Sturridge is done, just needs faxing threw lol

01 Jan 2013 13:16:06
Just read the quite amazing story about Jordan Henderson being quarantined from the rest of the team just prior to QPR match. He clearly wasnt well but also showed remarkable talent and determination to play as well as he did for 60 minutes.

Its so refreshing to find that we have a young man who appreciates the importance of pulling the shirt on his back for the club he clearly has grown to love. You have proven that you have the right attributes to be a Liverpool player, your still young and learning, but your a top man in my books.

How refreshing in this day and age, when cash appears to be king to modern footballers.

Well done Jordan, if only the rest of the UK players showed your courage and will to improve, instead of counting their money at every opportunity.

Bill Shankly would be proud of you ! YNWA

Tel 1949

I read the same article, and was equally impressed.

He clearly loves playing for Liverpool, because the easy option would have been to cry off. He was up all night being sick, so he was at risk of fatigue and lethargy.

People should forget his price tag and just pretend he came through the academy because he's a very good player, obviously has a great attitude and will only get better.

Joe

Totally agree Tel . We as fans should maybe look back at how Lucas was treated in his first couple of seasons so perhaps Henderson can be the same .
YNWA
Jamesy

Think he defo wants to prove his worth at liverpool, his confidence took a huge knock when offered to fulham as part of dempsey deal, if the fans really got behind him i really believe he can be a top player

Lets not get carried away, Joe, Jamesy, it was the only way he would of got a game. By the way are ye 2 characters out of Thomas and friends?
Percy1892

Why would anyone (if a real Liverpool fan) disagree with this post or the comments. Some people just can't find it in themselves to be positive about anything. I would hate to be you guys. Your life must suck baws.

Yeah many posters on this site are a joke. Its a fact he played for 60 odd minutes and its a fact that he was ill, why not give credit where its due ? They seem much more eager to take it away.

morning eds happy new year to you all.with the small group of 1st team player's we have, i can only see j, cole leaving for good, and maybe 1 or 2 young lads out on loan, we need all the player's we have got till the summer then we could let some go eds.we need more coming in than player's moving on that's for sure.i still think we will see 3 or 4 come in this window, sturridge is nailed on im happy with that, i like the kid and when he went out to bolton on loan he was on fire i hope he hits the ground running for us.he has it all and with load's to prove, im hoping we get butland he would be a great signing for us the 6ft 4in monster keeper only 19 year's of age 5m would get the job done.there could be a chance of theo walcott a slight chance that is you never know.but i would love us to try a bid for adrian lopez 12m to 14m for the striker from atletico madrid top class player 24 year old just right for us.and why not a bid for wilfried zaha only 20 year's old 9m would get the lad in the door.player's there that are young, not over priced, and for this window (bargin's) in the jan sale's ed lol.jay essex red for life red till dead.as alway's walking on with hope, cheer's ed's {Ed002's Note - Happy new year Jay. im sure none of us have hardly seen him at all seeing as though hes never played for us yet....
give the man a chance, a greedy pacey striker is what weve been craving...good signing in my book
Faircloughs twin

The last greedy pacey striker we signed was quality.

Why can't we play in our RED colours away from home anymore ? I get the clashing colours part, but aginst QPR ?

Please fill me in {Ed002's Note - In addition to clashes, the club are allowed to choose to wear the away strip as long as it is not worn on more than 8 occasions. Typically it is for commercial reasons.}

Bad this, i hate it when we wear the away kit for no reason, we should wear red whenever we can {Ed002's Note - It is simply a football kit - get over it.}

QPR insist on wearing traditional red numbers so it was thought the black would be less likely to cause confusion to the player in the heat of the moment.

01 Jan 2013 12:37:33
It seems strange that talks about takers for Scneider has been more or less limited to LFC the last couple of days. And now with an official denial (Like BR definatly staying at Swansea) I hardly ever believe there is something in a rumour untill it's denied :-)

Also wondering about the London clubs. Cole to QPR, with maybe Lampard following ? And maybe a Beckham ?

Based on the laters statement: I have 1 major thing I want to try in club football: Could this be a "Reverse Owen" or would he really sign for a QPR or even West Ham and play in London ?

01 Jan 2013 12:51:22
I always really liked David Villa, from the times he played for Zaragoza. I think he could be our RvP, if he signed, just the difference between a win and draw or draw and loss. Even if he had 3 seasons in him, he could help LFC immensely to get back where it belongs.

HK

Nobody is doubting his quality but it really is unlikely.
derryred

£10m to £15m for David Villa is fine as you will find 2 world class striker Suarez Villa will rock for us.

15 million is ridiculous as he is 31 years old and has has 2 very serious injuries during his career. Including one within the last eighteen months. He is unquestionably world class but how would his knees react in the Prem.

P.S.
Happy New Year

01 Jan 2013 12:23:55
I ask FSG for one thing this year. Please don't sack BR as we will be back to square one again. It costs a lot of money to sack a manager which could be invested elsewhere. However I think someone should be helping with transfer targets as BR isn't going after the top players.

01 Jan 2013 12:19:10
hi everyone, happy new year. now im not in the know, i just follow my beloved lfc and each year hope for something better than the year before. i also hope that the manager uses the transfer windows to get in players that will improve us, sometimes it happens other times we wonder why has he bought that donkey, so now its that time again i believe sturridge is all but done, however with all the remaining names being bandied around all i ask is BR buys a striker that is eligible to play in the europa league and cup matches (sturridge is eligible for fa cup) suarez needs help in europe just as much as the premier.
billy
ps thankyou eds and Macca for all the hard work you put in

01 Jan 2013 12:16:58
Hey eds
When do you expect Sturridge deal to be made official/public {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

When the deal is completed

They've tattood the announcement onto Aggers left buttock and it will be revealed during a sliding tackle tomorrow evening.

01 Jan 2013 11:58:39
Hi eds and posters.
This is not certain to happen - as BR will more than happily make a u-turn on the decision to sell a player ala Henderson, Enrique - however at present I have it on good authority that he is very much wanting to cancel the sahib loan deal.
Now I believe he is a highly talented player but no one can argue that he's set the place alight. BR signed him as a creative player and if the loan is terminated I have been told he will certainly be in the market for a similar player, whom this may be is not known but he already has a number of players being scouted in Europe for this position and he would look to sign these most probably on a permanent transfer.
This is all the info I have right now but as I said it could all very much change depending on his performances after returning from injury.
Thanks
Puzzled Red

01 Jan 2013 11:54:27
All this talk of Sturridge being too greedy isn't really a bad thing guys. Ian Rush was told by Bob Paisley to be more selfish in front of goal. Being greedy isn't a problem. The only thing I can see wrong with Sturridge is that he messes up the simple things and does the hard things really well.

He wont be the only current player to do this ?
That is one of our biggest problems.

01 Jan 2013 11:53:34
David Villa (Loan)
Wesley Sneijder
Xabi Alonso

I think Liverpool making bids for Villa and Sneijder is believable and if it is the case then good on Brendan. You'll never know if you don't try and it's nice being linked with world class players. I hope we're in for a good surprise this window even if it is unlikely. Roll on the New Year and Transfer window. £12M for D.Sturridge is a good start.

AsianRed

I think the tooth fairy is believable

Hey Eds, happy new year.

A couple of papers reporting that Liverpool are looking into cancelling Nuri Sahin's loan to save on his wages.

This wouldn't surprise me. Is this a possibility, legally? {Ed052's Note - there will be a way for us to cancel his loan I am sure, although I cannot see usdoing it}

01 Jan 2013 11:35:40
LFC targets

Sturridge
Walcott
Butland( he'd not be at anfield though hed stay in birmingham until summer)
Ince
Holtby (weve had discussions with him/his club)
Charlie austin
David villa/Gamerio (loan)

There's also a winger based in the Dutch league (not errikssen) that we've been looking at.

Also heard a Arshavin loan whisper

01 Jan 2013 11:30:39
Eds what is the current sittuation of walcott to liverpook?
Is BR seriously interested in Gamerio or this rumor has no legs?
Indian Red {Ed052's Note - I doubt TW will sign. Gamerio has been done to death}

Really would love Walcott at liverpool. He would suit us so well as he could rotate around the front three similar to what Suarez does. I rate the lad really highly but wenger had wasted him out wide for years.

01 Jan 2013 11:20:53
Hi Eds, with Enrique out for 6 weeks. Do you think Rogers would still sell Downing? and would we be looking at a left back for back up if Downing is sold? {Ed052's Note - I dont think Downing will leave, and dont think Enriques injury will effect our transfer dealings}

This Norovirus that is making everybody sick has gotten into the Spurs camp...its reported that Gareth Bale has gone down with it.....so the ref booked him.

Sooty

On closer examination, it never touched him

The virus was on the other side of the pitch but somehow Gareth still went down with it

cozinoz

I wish the Mrs would go down as easy as Bale......

KNEE JERK.

Some say he 'baled' out of the tackle.

The virus was in scotland, but he still went down with it....just in case he got caught

I was watching spurs on sly sports the other day and got up to make a cupa tea and accidently bumped in to my tv and bale fell over

Sturridge's signing will be confirmed this week, but it will be too soon for the £12 million purchase from Chelsea to make his debut against Sunderland on Wednesday. He has already completed a medical and agreed personal terms, but he will not be registered in time.

We need experiance why not Villa £15m. David Villa Suarez up front best in the world .

hhh

Sturridge is a decent player with the protentialto be a great player. My only probalem is that hes jot yet prolific and can be greedy. If he wants to be a great then he needs to remember his roots and descover the love of the game rather than be a businessman footballer. Footballl is about passion and desire and produces the faith of that like a religion buut he has to be humble and count his blessings before he can get the desire to be a legend

We need experiance striker we creat many chance but not finish. and Villa can do it for us.

01 Jan 2013 10:51:08
Any young players due to go loan? Brendan mentioned Robinson going out on loan but wonder is that going to happen with Jose Enriques injury?

01 Jan 2013 10:41:52
Happy new year everyone, but can I just say I'm tired of these post about 22-23 years rebuilding! I was not around to see us in our prime but I do know that now the premier league is a much more competitive league than it was. To finish 2nd in 09 4pts off first was an incredible achievement given chelsea and man u's dominance! We were a force i'n European football, granted not what we were but something to be proud of.

How come that wasn't us rebuilt, ready to keep progressing? I think the rebuilding ended then. Now we are rebuilding from what h+g left u's with and Rafa's signings (although I rate and respect him as a manager). This is our 4th season of rebuilding! So can 2013 be the year of positivity or even just constructive criticism. have a great night everyone (or morning!) Sam

01 Jan 2013 10:37:44
Happy new year to everyone.

Once again a big thanks to the tireless work of the Eds on here and Macca for his priceless inside info. Without you guys the world would be a very boring place

01 Jan 2013 10:37:14
Hey eds what's the chances of gameiro always liked him as a player a very good finisher I seen somewhere we had lined him up as a loan signing if sturridge didn't happen

Red Thriller {Ed052's Note - search function. Read through the posts. Repeated questions will be deleted. At present, I know nothing of interestin him. He still plays fro PSG so im not toosure they would want to let him go on loan. The rumour all stems from Tony Barret}

01 Jan 2013 10:36:07
And so it begins. Eds, I will pray for your sanity. My fellow reds, eds and Macca, have a safe and happy new year.
NGF1 {Ed052's Note - thanks mate. Alreadyweve been asked about 40times about Grameiro}

01 Jan 2013 10:34:19
hi any chance that suarez might be tempted to leave this january to bigger club if offer comes? or Agger? I hear rumours of Coates joining on loan, i hope not, i see him as a beter player than Skrtel for sure

Just the way he stands at the end of the line and touches that "This is Anfield" sign in the dug-out whilst heading for the pitch is enough indication for me that he will not leave this window.

hi lads would just like to make a point which i think is valid.theres been alot of negativity towards the sturridge deal.mainly ppl are saying hes to greedy doesnt pass poor decision making.but also alot of fans are saying and i agree we need a plan b.perhaps sturridge is a plan b?when we have them games where the lads just keep passing sideways and back at least when the ball gets played to sturridge he will go for it try beat the man and crack 1.plenty of goals are got from keeper spilling it and bad deflections.we can all agree he wont single handidly fix the club but its prob a move in the right direction.cheers redness

I really doubt he will move here to be a plan-b mate.

Hi guys, I live in Mansfield, obviously the game on Sunday is on everybody lips around here, I have a few friends within 'the stags' namely mez and Colin (groundsmen) amongst others, speaking with these over the past few days they have told me that they have been told to do the obvious, let the pitch be as poor as possible, they have even held training on it a couple of times to cut it up! This has cost them a league game against Grimsby but they hope the pitch will be a 'leveller' and are hoping to get a very lucrative draw and a visit to anfield. They are a big physical side and I expect they will kick lumps, expect an injury or 2.

A draw, how you going to manage that? We were going to let you win!
Enjoy the game and may the best team win.
Rigsby.

Or hope for a win, but I don't believe anybody is deluded enough to believe that will happen.

01 Jan 2013 10:12:25
Lads, a flat finish to the year. I thought we were improving gradually but it has been a lacklustre first half of the year.

For all the tempering expectations, I am sure BR would have like to have a few more points than we enter 2013.

With games coming up against Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal, January is a tough month and if we do not get a couple of players that are first 11 starters (no squad improvers) we will finish somewhere between 8th and 11th..

I hope that this is not the case and that we really do get some quality and show some resolve to compete for that open 4th champion's league spot and improve on last years finish.

Alright, look at our points tally from the first 10 games, and then from the second 10 games. That should give you an indication of the improvement.

Hi eds, i was wondering if we'll get an official announcement from either of the clubs regarding Sturridge today?

01 Jan 2013 09:52:20
Hi eds, is it true that demba ba's agents are meeting liverpools representitives later today or might be tomorrow to see if they can agree a deal

LFC Jordan {Ed052's Note - no}

01 Jan 2013 09:50:51
Liverpool have failed in an attempt to sign David Villa on loan. Barcelona are willing to listen to offers of around £12m. Liverpool's owners FSG are surprisingly ready to sanction a bid of £9m for Villa. Rodgers has told the owners he needs a top quality player with experience who can influence the younger players coming through. Liverpool will tomorrow confirm the £12m signing of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, Villa is the only other target this January. Tom Ince will be staying at Blackpool for a bit longer, collapsed negotiations coupled with the improvement in Stewart Downing's form has made another move extremely unlikely this January. Joe Cole has opened talks with Harry Redknapp's QPR.

01 Jan 2013 09:25:43
Reports say ba deal would set any club back 15m. With agents and signing on fees. Once again the eds were first out of the blocks with the rite information.
Well done eds and happy new year.hope the eds heads are ok this morning .

hi EDs just curious would Sturridge be able to play in Europa League for us?

redman4ever {Ed052's Note - no, I dont think he will, becuase Chelsea are now in the Europa league, and DS played in the Champions League}

01 Jan 2013 09:18:07
Morning all and a happy new year, just wondering what ppls thoughts are on signing buckland ? I don't believe we should waste money on an unproven GK when we could get someone like Paul Robinson for less than a mill if we do want to sell reina. I am in agreement with other posters that reina is not the force he was for us and am unsure if this is his form or his heart so a bid of 8mill up would interest me.

I remember that we bought a young Kirkland and then Loaned him out and I'm sure we did this with another young keep so it's a waste of money for me besides Gk's get better with age and young keepers always make mistakes (look at man u's de gea)

Let's use the money wisely in this window BR

hi eds whats the possibility of trying to sign scott sinclair on loan til end of the season? his not bein played and would jump at the chance to work with br again {Ed052's Note - no chance}

Bugger..think he would have done well for us

01 Jan 2013 06:52:38
hi eds the guardian is reporting that we are in for a loan deal for kevin gameiro i think he is the exactly the type of player we need . i actually think that guardian is very reliable .wot do u think? {Ed052's Note - they are usually a reliable source}

01 Jan 2013 06:12:59
Liverpool have rejected SWAP offer from Lille.
J.Cole S.Kalou..

Ed's any truth in this info ?

ITK Red.. {Ed052's Note - I would highly doubt it}

Poor quality for the same

01 Jan 2013 03:54:06
In case Ince move falls through for want of Blackpool wanting more money than 5m, I feel we should either move to secure Kevin Gameiro, on loan with view to buy in summer. And if that doesn't happen, we can look at Iago Aspas from Celta, good goalscorer at around a couple of more than Ince. What are the chances of these two Eds?

Gogol {Ed052's Note - I haven't heard anythung on Aspas, so unlikely. Gamiero, again unlikely I think}

01 Jan 2013 03:04:48
Ed since you said that we looked at Hoarau isn't there a chance we looked at gamiero to and that's why we are looking to loan him in? {Ed052's Note - we could have looked at Gamiero yes}

01 Jan 2013 08:26:12
Have we ever shown any interest in Franco di santo?

He would fit the system well.

01 Jan 2013 05:53:02
when will sturridge transfer become official?

01 Jan 2013 03:25:31
So three definant targets have been identified daniel sturridge (done deal), tom ince (seems to be a few problems with the deal on both sides) and jack butland (probably more of an enquiry more than a potential purchase but you never know). Then there is The David villa speculation which bbc are suggesting we had a loan bid rejected (which I do believe). Now there is strong speculation that we are in for Kevin gamerio on loan from psg (which I also believe). Now actually acquiring him is a different story, but if we did manage to get him on loan then that would complete a puzzle that's been empty for some time.

Suarez--gamerio--sturridge

Very strong attacking like up. All versitile, all can score goals and all can take on players rather than pass it on. We never seem to have two strikers that are world class and can play off eachother and score goals equally. Robbie fowler and ?, Michael Owen and ?, fernando Torres and ?, Suarez and ?. With gamerio and sturridge I think that question mark would disappear.

01 Jan 2013 02:36:55
Why have we not bought anyone yet?

Ratty888

There not going to announce anything 8 hours in

01 Jan 2013 02:33:54
People are saying here we need this player and that player. What we need is a group of players willing to die for the lfc jersey.we play a game here in Ireland that's amature called hurling and if you play for your local club or county you risk geting your hand fingers arms shins broke every game.but always you go out and give 100 percent for the love of your club or county. This is what we need at Liverpool a never say die attitude and a team that's willing to die for each other. Anyone who doesn't know what I'm on about look up hurling on the internet. Irish ben.

Two different games buddy cant really compare you could say the same about rugby, horse riding etc etc

01 Jan 2013 10:54:25
They may be two different games but its all about how much you want to win and the respect you have for your club and the people you represent. You have to lay your body on the line which alot of the Liverpool players haven't been doing. You can't just sit on your fat wage and enjoy the ride. These things will all have to change if Liverpool are to move forward. The players will have to start respecting the the club and the fans. How many of us would give our right arm to play for lfc. Its time they pulled the finger out. Fight for the club or get out.

01 Jan 2013 02:12:07

Happy new year everyone, but can I just say I'm tired if these comments 'oh yeah 22-23 years rebuilding' now I'm not old enough to remember when we were the dominant force of English football but times have changed and the premier league is a much more competitive league than it was. To finish 2nd i'n 09 by 4pts was an incredible achievement given chelsea and man u's dominance and so i think we did rebuild, we were a massive force i'n European football still. So Now it's 3 years rebuilding not 22/23 since we finished 7th under rafa. So please can 2013 be the year of positivity or at least constructive criticism rather than he's 'sh!t' all the time? Liverpool football club will prosper in 2013. Massively.

01 Jan 2013 00:38:24
hi eds was thinkin about our strikeforce and thought i come up with abit of a good idea if we do get sturridge and keep carroll we could play carroll down the middle and suarez and sturridge could play either side but with a free range in their game then we have both height and strength plus speed and creativity. your thoughts on this? {Ed001's Note - awful, Carroll is not suited to our game.}

Edoo1 happy new year mate!
have to say i agree with ac in the team felt he should never of gone last 3 months of last season unplayable and u look at all the crosses we put in now he would be ideal and i no u say he is never there to be on end of it but we play so slow in our build up he cant fail to be there still think he has something to offer liverpool fc and it is well known he wants to prove that!

gregp

Why do people want a striker who, 1. is injured and, 2. who simply cant score goals? His goalscoring ratio this season for West Ham is worse than it was for LFC last season.

Who does everyone think will come to the club this January? Out of players potentially available to us and by saying that I mean us as in Liverpool. I have put some down who are available, players id like or would be interested in signing for us.

Strikers.

Fernando Llorente. Just saying 6 months left on deal. Wouldn't we at least try and sign him for summer if not January?

Wesley Sneijder. Rumoured to be interested and if available for the reported 10 million he would still be good business at 28 years old. We would face tough competition to sign him from a host of clubs who can also offer CL football to him. We still could have an outside chance of signing him and I really hope we do try and sign him.

Ander Hererra. Quality centre mid who would be a great addition in my opinion. Has all the attributes to succeed in the premiership. Would command a fee of roughly 10-15 million in my opinion.

Arda Turan. Liverpool fan and skillful winger who's adapted to La Liga well. If we showed an interest with or without CL football I still think he'd be interested. Fee may be an issue as would be roughly 20 million.

K. Honda. Excellent skillful attacking midfielder who would be available from CSKA. We showed interest previously and could still be rekindled by BR ala Tom nice situation.

M. Zarate. Skillful striker currently employed by Lazio. Not wanted by them and available for a modest 7 million. At 25 could still do a job for us and still possibly sell on for a higher fee. In my opinion we should take a punt in this player.

I. Munian. Exceptional midfielder with bags of energy. Would be a big ask as he'd be wanted by a host of clubs. His fee would also be high for a player so young, but still a coup if we could pull it off.

C. Eriksen. Much sought after attacking midfielder who also has a choice of team to pick from. Favours Spain and would cost in region of 20 million. Highly unlikely but would like to think we would offer him a package when time comes.

L. Holtby. Available in the summer and would be a good addition. Confessed Arsenal fan so would expect him to move there in summer.

Does anyone think any of these will sign for us in January or summer?

Jonesred
