I know everyone is a fan of the old deadline day signing but personally think we'll be alright until the summer then we can move people on and buy properly, the only thing that's a
Worry for me now is Sturridge staying fit but getting a top striker now with next to no money seems impossible.

Liverpool have a press conference later today. The inexperienced will assume it's for the Bolton game but really (as everyone on here knows) it's to unveil our new lethal strike force - Arthur Scargill and Derek Robinson.

Looks like we'll be right in the top 4 mix after next weekend I can't see spurs beating arsenal and i really don't see utd wining away to west ham, really tough place to go.
We never loose the darby and Everton are weak this season,
I predict 1-3 Liverpool.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

I hope so because them beating us would be like winning the PL for them so we need to be ready for a battle. If ever we are to make the season interesting, the Everton and Spurs games wil be critical.

Agree2 Disagree0

There gunna be right up for it seen as they have Chelsea after us and if they loose both games they could be 18 points behind and in a right relagation scrap two weeks from now.
On a sour note we have two really tough games and could be right in the mix for a top 4 spot or right out if it.

Agree2 Disagree0

We have to win against Everton, no matter what, its not even about the derby. it about our season. a win gives us a platform to go into the spurs game, where a draw would not be a bad result for us. given on form i most likely believe we can beat everton as opposed to spurs. though winning both games would be a treat and surely puts us in driving seat for the much coveted fourth spot. But practically speaking spurs game won't just be easy, they are not just winning but playing some pretty direct football . however our 3 at the back system can put their game to bed, but still i am not yet too convinced of our defence. we can beat spurs but they can beat us too. it will be that type of game

Agree1 Disagree0

Last 14 games last season we won 12 drew 1 and lost 1.
We need something similar to finish this season.

Agree1 Disagree0

Spot on, Narnes. Will lightning strike twice? We will find out.

I know there's no guarantee, but I hope borini and balotelli if he stays at least gets a couple chances playing in a front two. Does seem very difficult to do in our current formation, guess it would include playing sterling/coutinho/lallana in the free no 10 role! Not every week maybe, but we can't just leave them on the bench.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

02 Feb 2015 07:51:43
I'd like them both to get a chance as a front two but when you realise it means them appearing ahead of one or two of Coutinho, Sterling and Lallana.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2015 21:17:25
Have or will the EPL change and increase the amount of subs allowed on the bench during league games?
Notice Serie A have 11 subs. With bigger squads and maybe a push for clubs to include youth products, could we see that here anytime soon?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It has been considered to increase it to seven and require x Under 21s. The fear is that clubs will just sit the youngsters on the bench and they won't be available to play for the reserves etc.. I think perhaps it will get figured out.}

Thanks. Would you think with the squad sizes these days 11 on the bench is the way forward or does it make it more competitive to leave it as is?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - It needs fixing but the French considered seven on the bench but it 5 must be "home grown". Spain has had similar discussions. It can be tough.}

Is there a different ruling if for example liverpool could have sturridge sterling ibe lallana gerrard Henderson Flanagan etc in the starting lineup, but maybe couldn't have 5 homegrown on the bench if you have the likes of Jones moreno coutinho Borini balotelli lucas available?
Just using liverpool as a reference as I don't know many other teams squads!

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 07:53:12
If I remember correctly, it is an increase in the number of homegrown in the matchday squad rather than specifically on the bench - you don't get punished for including more in the starting XI

Ed2 I'm booking a trip here , have flights booked, would it be safe to buy match tickets from the viagogo site? I'm not sure in this sort of thing!
Thanks for the help

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not the best person to ask as I don't normally buy tickets to go to football matches. I have heard of Viagogo but have not used them - perhaps others have?}

01 Feb 2015 16:51:24
Viagogo do not do LFC I don't think.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tom is it reliable in general?

Agree0 Disagree0

How much were the tickets out of interest? Most resold tickets are £100+ and if its not a Cat A game there is usually hospitality tickets for around that (you get a lunch etc and the seat).

Use your local supporters club. I got mine through them.

Hi eds, just a quick question if possible. Might be an obvious one but just wondered what constitutes tapping up. I read Ed002's reply to a question recently concerning Danny ings and that he can signship a pre contract with a foreign team now but would have to wait til June 1st to sign for a premiership team. If Liverpool wanted ings or anyone in that contractual position but wanted him on the free, what level of interest are they allowed to show the player to possibly delay them signing with a foreign club before its classed as tapping up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not allowed to make any direct approach to the player. They can of course speak with his agent and could suggest that they would pay a certain amount to the player in the summer. But nothing can be contracted for. Taking such an approach as this is unusual.}

Eds have you a link on a video in America 2014 where Brendan Rodgers categorically denies Balloteli will be at Lfc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - best I could find at short notice was this: http://www.thescore.com/epl/news/548813 I will keep searching though.}

I read that in the Daily Fail. IMO, he did say that.

Agree1 Disagree1

Maybe some of BR's BS can't be helped as decisions are made by people other than himself on transfers. Obviously he can help how his team plays, but no one at the club is qualified in making good purchases. BR has done well to turn things around. let's see how long this lasts.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed002's Note - If Rodgers had wanted to reject Balotelli, as he did with Remy, there was nothing to stop him.}

Thanks Edoo1's, Have been on the link, however it is just an article in the paper and not the actual press conference to which I am looking for

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd rather have taken Remy.

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Feb 2015 15:18:16
Ed002, Maybe the board did not want another rejection so took over. It was a bargain at the time and probably still is.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not how it works.}

01 Feb 2015 15:25:05
Bought him simply because he's a bigger name. Nobody can honestly tell me that he's a natural goalscorer. Replacing a chunk of Suarez goals was what we needed to address as soon as he was sold. The first signing,,, it should've used a massive amount of the money available to replace him with a world class goalscorer. Instead we just spent the lot on average/potentially good squad players and blew the entire season before a ball was barely kicked

Agree14 Disagree3

How was Mario a bargain? He moved to Milan for £17.6M, has a decent half season, then a poor full one and we pay them £17.6M for him. Milan got a great deal, not us, and I doubt very much we'll be as lucky as they were when we sell him.

So Ed00'2, Is it your understanding that after BR categorically denied Balotelli was to sign for LFC, he had a change of heart after the Remy deal fell through and decided to sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No. I have warned you repeatedly to ignore everything he says - he suffers from foot and mouth.}

So Ed00'2, BR did sign him then as he has the final say and as you said yourself if he did not want him he would not sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You seem very keen to try and put words in my mouth. I have explained the workings of the transfer process at Liverpool on many occasions.}

Why do the Italian teams, take us for mugs in the transfer market?
We have really bad history.

Agree5 Disagree0

I don't care who signed Balotelli the club signed a player with the attitude of "who could care less" a big child with too much money, well he has been found out now and no club in their right mind would buy him unless he is very cheap! and meanwhile our club loses millions! the person(s) responsible should be sacked.

Agree1 Disagree0

BR blocked the move for every striker that was offerred him including Bony (who was affordable) and Remy and if we ended up w/ Balo, it is because BR could also have blocked it BUT did not meaning, he wanted him here in some sort hence, BR is to blame. ED01 mentioned this piece of info last week therefore, people should stop making excuses and suppositions for BR for the Balo fiasco. Balo is here because BR chose NOT to block the deal as he did for the other strikers proposed hence, HIS FAULT.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2015 22:22:26
People keep bagning on about that Rodgers failed to go for that big signing first.

Let's not forget that we tried at the start of the window to buy Alexis Sanchez! He was the closest type of player available to replace Luis Suarez, but HE did not want to come. He wanted the move to London!

Now if there are people out there who can name many more players like him, who could have come close to replacing Suarez, that were available in the summer, please tell me, 'cos I can't think of many more.

I never wanted Balotelli, but as you see from my previous posts I'm not convinced Rodgers ever wanted him either.

And I'm not stating that the rest of the signings have been a success, but can all the BR haters at least consider both sides of the arguement first.

A lot of people were happy with the majority of the signings as they happened in the summer, these same people who, back then were probably on the BR bandwagon.

Now i'm sure there are some who have never been convinced and that's fair enough, but whilst he is our manager I'll continue to support him and the team.

He's young enough to learn from his mistakes. Man Utd and Arsenal dominated that 10-15 years before the foreign owners came to the premier league and i'm convinced it had something to do with them sticking by their managers for a long time.

I'm hoping we do the same.

Keep the Faith.

Agree2 Disagree0

Smplfc, firstly likely none of us are getting paid quite handsomely to find players. Secondly, I think the likes of Jackson Martinez, Lacazette, Huntelaar, Mandzukic, Son, Okazaki, and Immobile might have been obtainable in the summer and others can probably name more.

Personally I might have gone for Martinez instead of Balotelli and Markovic, Huntelaar instead of Lambert, and maybe Lacazette instead of Origi. Don't buy Lovren, keep Agger, don't loan in Manquillo, keep Wisdom. Moreno's alright. Don't buy Lallana, give Suso and Teixeira a chance, buy a goal keeper instead.

Regardless of how you look at it, there were lots of options, it certainly wasn't Balotelli or nothing as some seem to think.

Agree1 Disagree0

Smp contrary to what you may believe, I am not a BR hater and because I point out his mistakes (that many seem eager to make excuses for or flat out ignore so they are not labelled BR haters) which are costing us big time in the TW and adding to the debt, doesn`t make me one. I like BR because he is a damn good coach. However, his errors in the TW are costing us and that is a fact. Worse, he never learns, never changes and refuses to get help from a DOF which we all know we need. This is defo unsustainable. Even Chelsea and City don`t blow money like we are anymore because they have to balance their books which they have done hence, helsea is within FFP. To boot, even the owners don`t trust him w/ funds hence, the commitee of which he is a member. We will never know whether he really wanted Balo or not BUT we do know that he had the power to stop it because he stopped the Remy and Bony deals.So why didn`t he? Only BR can answer that and until he does, it will forever be his fault, IMO.

Agree1 Disagree0

Agreed! .

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 05:59:34
RDL, if you watch those players week in week out and say they are good enough then I'll take your word for it and assume your not someone who takes their ratings from FIFA 15 or youtube videos as a mark of a good striker.

I never stated that the signings were right signings and trust me there was no bigger lover of Agger than me and I was devastated when he left.

As for Suso, I rated him highly, but was BR the only Liverpool manager who didn't really give him chances?

Again, I'm not looking to cause an arguement, as we all ultimately, support the greatest team there is, but whappens if we sack him?

Who do we get in?

What happens if they don't get the second place that Rodgers got us to?

Keep the Faith!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair points, smplfc. I do watch a lot of Bundesliga, so am more familiar with those playing there (Son, Okazaki, etc.) then say Martinez who I typically only see highlights and the European games for. I don't know if any of them might have worked out or not, my real point was there were other options and we choose who we did for whatever reasons that seem unfathomable to me.

As for the part about the manager, I don't really care who it is specifically as my personal thought is to get a proper DoF and let them choose someone they can work with moving forward. It seems to me the club needs a senior, experienced figure of that sort to help move us forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 07:35:30
The only reason I raised the last points is because a lot of people seem quick to call for his head without thinking about the consequences.

I'm sure there are better managers out there, but I'm still confident that given time to learn from his mistakes, BR can be top class as well.

He must have something about him to have got Swansea up and to safety and then us to 2nd within 2 years.

I take on and agree with a lot of your points.

I by no means think he's the perfect manager, but there were a few times in Fergie's early career when he was on the brink but by sticking by him look what they achieved. Maybe I am being too optimistic, but in my opinion I just hope we give him time.

But at least we agree on the sooner Mario goes the better ey?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If Rodgers had wanted to reject Balotelli, as he did with Remy, there was nothing to stop him.}

Ed002 this is an earlier reply from yourself to one of my posts, what I am trying to establish is did BR sign Mario, this is to settle a difference of opinion within the family.

I actually don't think he did however if he has the final say I can only assume that he did sign him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I don't know if you understand the transfer process - what do you mean by "did Rodgers sign"?}

02 Feb 2015 17:29:12
Ed002's, Did BR agree to the signing of Mario or not, I know it was a consensus of opinion by the committee as you have said before

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If he did not block the transfer (as he did with Remy), the implication is that he agreed with it.}

Thanks Ed002, That's all I wanted, got there in the end

Yes playing in a pretty poor team the 3 lads are doing well. Dunn in particular is their only scoring outlet really

Well a few months in league 2 won't hurt him his confidence will be high and next season a loan to a championship side for a real test would be great
Hopefully in the summer we look at the futures of our youths different and properly this time

Y'allright Eds.
Last year LFC were going all out to sign Konoplyanka.
This year the player has admitted that he would love to join us.
Are we no longer interested in getting a proven world clsss player now on the cheap or in summer for free?
Seems like a no brainer to me.
Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - we bought Markovic instead, there is not really the space for him, nor is he proven to be world class, in my opinion.}

Where exactly would Kono play? It would career suicide for him to join LFC now that the club has already signed Lallana and Markovic. Would be another pointless signing when its obvious the team needs a striker, CM and a GK.

Agree3 Disagree0

Don't forget Ibe as well, who looked very good when he came on. Hopefully he will at least come on with 20 mins left for the rest of the season. I can't see a lot of defenders being happy to see him coming on with his pace and direct running, just as they are starting to get tired.

Agree10 Disagree0

Sounds like a shoe in to be signed then ed!

Agree6 Disagree0

01 Feb 2015 08:59:41
Ed1 I think that's a cracking appraisal of the new signings and its great to see Ibe back as well. My question is where do you see Ibe fitting into the system and is there a chance he could play as a striker like Sterling if needed for one reason or another?

Believable8 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I think Ibe is more suited to the striker role than Sterling. Sterling has a better range of passing, he is much better playing a bit deeper and running at defences from behind a forward. Ibe is more of a bull, someone who charges through, through he is skilful too, not just a brute, but doesn't need the space Raheem needs to pick a pass, as he is more of a finisher and looking for a strike.}

Ibe is a wonderful prospect and to me, needs games and minutes just like Sterling had and if he works hard and is well-managed, we WILL have a player on our hands, for sure.

Agree2 Disagree0

Can't wait til some other big club comes a knocking. :/

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2015 10:54:56
If only Coutinho could add goals to his game. what a player he would be.

Believable16 Unbelievable0

Every time I watch him I think this. His conversion rate is abysmal. However, with the absence of a decent striker he has been relied on too much. Our final third tactics consisted of Moreno and Markovic crossing it to nobody or giving the ball the Sterling/Coutinho and hoping they'd jink round a few players and score a screamer from 20+ yards.

He seems to be hitting the target much more often lately though so he is showing signs of improvement.

Agree6 Disagree13

It is the only difference for Coutinho to be up with Silva although a big difference. At least the last couple of games the keeper has saved a few of his and hasn't just been sticking them over the bar.

Agree2 Disagree2

Ems
He was the same last year when we had Danny and Luis.

Agree9 Disagree0

I know Rover, but last season his shooting wasn't scrutinised as much because we had strikers scoring goals from his passes.

Agree4 Disagree8

Bit of a basic look at the stats, but I don't think countinho is that far off, the number 10's in the prem Every one else loves.
His converion rate to games really isn't that far off Silvas or Matas in the prem.
It's not just that though, for me Coutinho picks up the ball a lot deeper than those 2 players and drives forward.
Last season probably was his chance to chip in an improve those stats, but when you have Studge and Suarez, do you really want him taking pot shots?

This year has seen is as an entire team struggle to break down the opposition going forward and being reduced to 20 yarders, I think once we get 2 natural strikers on it will create more space for pipco to work with.

Agree3 Disagree0

Agreed bob. There is no denying Coutinho is a class act. Age considered, I think the only player In the world I'd trade him for is Isco. Aside from him, I genuinely believe Coutinho is the best in the world in his position and in his age bracket.

As the OP says, when he adds goals to his game he will be absolutely world class.

Agree3 Disagree9

Coutinho, for me, is the most technically gifted player in our squad. He is the player you want on the ball that will make things happen and as the playmaker he thrives on having runners who he can feed balls through to. The only problem this season has been the lack of pace and mobility up front, which I feel is why he tries to do a lot by himself. He has struck up a good partnership with Sterling lately and now with Sturridge and Ibe available, I'm sure he will be in his element for the remainder of the season. For me, goals are not an issue with him, if he scores goals happy days, as long as he is creating chances then he his doing his job sufficiently. There is no doubt he will be a world class player in a few years time, and there isn't one player in his position that I would swap him for.

Pip was an absolute bargain at 8m. He's definitely up there with Silva, don't think he's at Hazard's level however. Better than Oscar for me also.

Agree3 Disagree3

Nothing against Coutinho, but his finishing is nowhere near to Mata or Silva's.

Coutinho has scored 2 with 50 shots.

Silva has 7 with 28 shots.

Mata has 5 with 19 shots.

All 3 have played roughly the same amount of time (1400-1450 minutes).

I think he's jolly fine. Exciting footballer that needs goals,, if he adds goals we're looking at one of the best attacking midfielders in the world In a few seasons.

Agree3 Disagree0

Isco isn't all that great

Agree0 Disagree5

For me his weakness is not only his poor shooting. He also lose the ball a lot when he dribblles into defenders or just poor passing and decision making in the final third (great skills in getting there with the ball, I admit). I am fully aware he gave two great assists on Saturday - well done for him, if he does that every game or every other game, I will happily say I was wrong abotu him (though still worth mentioning that Gerrad at his best used to give these wonderful 'between the lines' assists and also score and not lose the ball, but I am probably demand too much here). It is worth mentioning that he got only four assists this season and this include the two on Saturday. For me he is still not at the level of Silva and the others mentioned here. He is better than Markovich tough.

Agree0 Disagree4

Mata plays for United these days, Miltown. Any way you look at it, a 4% conversion rate is pretty poor, although I suppose it is better than Balotelli's.

Agree1 Disagree0

Dezy, Isco is a beast of a player, IMO. As for Couts, he`s still learning and will get better as long as he improves where he is weak which is to ad more goals. To me, Couts is an old school no.10 who is a playmaker behind two strikers and feeds on their movement ahead him. HE will improve. Comparing him to players like Mata and Silva who are older and more experienced and more developed than him is unfair and makes no sense, IMO.

Agree4 Disagree0

02 Feb 2015 07:57:12
Losing the ball when dribbling into players is just a hazard of the job. Every top n.10 losing the ball by running it into defenders a lot, just like every top CDM picks up a lot of fouls - because that's what they're trying to avoid all match and it doesn't always work. Silva probably loses the ball more than anyone else in your average match for City because it's his just to get it behind the most defensive players.

Morning All.
Just updating my profile and got to the question "favourite team moment". There are of course a plethora to choose from but my personal one was back in 88 when we annihilated a then excellent Nottingham Forest side 5-0. The Redmen's passing and movement was a joy to behold. A perfect synchronicity between attack and erm ATTACK.
For those that don't recollect this game, I am not joking when I say It could so easily have been 15-0!!
We have seen some excellent keeper displays against us over the years, but Mark Crosseley's heroic performance was one of the best individual goalkeeping displays I've ever witnessed. . . . and he conceded five!!
Anyway thought I'd ask you all what your favourite Reds performance was and why?

ps although I don't post often Eds, still clocking in for my daily fix! Loving the site and like the way you keep constantly tweaking it. Kudos.

I don't think I'm unique in naming Istanbul, however, I also have a very, very fond memory of the 86 cup final. From hating brucie for what I saw as an error for letting the bitters go one up, to the elation as Rushie put the game beyond them, although it still wish he'd finished off the chance to become the first player ever to score an FA cup hattrick. My first cup final following the reds, happy days :)

Apparently the club have applied to have a higher fence at Melwood to stop the team being leaked.

Benny you are going to have to get some bigger ladders 😉

Believable11 Unbelievable0

I don't see the council granting that, it would be a light issue to the houses behind melwood, and the press would then just pay someone to sit in one of the bedrooms to see over it.

{Ed002's Note - He can raise funds by selling players.}

I was thinking about that last night Ed002.
To be honest if we got rid of a few players in my opinion the 3 positions you mentioned are the only ones that need to be filled.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They look like the priorities. The club do need to make some decisions ahead of next season. The need to comply with FFP going forward will be critical. There will be at the very least a slap on the wrist and a strongly worded letter to Liverpool if they qualify for Europe. And if they don't they still need to comply with the future in mind. Fortunately they have a bunch of decent youngsters waiting for a chance and a Origi to arrive. Whilst decisions need to be made over Teixeira and Ilori, most of the rest of the loanees seem surplus to requirements (Coates, Aspas, Paez, Alberto etc.) and some money can be recouped by selling them. I would think the plan would be to bring Wisdom in to the squad - that may spell the end for Manquillo. The likes of Balotelli, Lambert etc. can again be sold. So I think that sensibly a GK, MF and a striker will be the priority.}

Amen.

Ed002, I think you may have taken my light hearted comment the wrong way. I wasn't being xenophobic. I was merely stating a pet hate about pronunciations from American commentators. It's not like I have an agenda against America or anything.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Few people use the word "hate" when making "light hearted" comments.}

01 Feb 2015 10:11:15
Ed002, do you mean like your own Jason cundy ! ?

Agree1 Disagree6

{Ed002's Note - Christ the vegetables are out today. What has any of this got to do with Jason Cundy, me, Chelsea or indeed you. This must be so incredibly embarrassing for the Liverpool fans to keep having to read.}

01 Feb 2015 07:38:01
I think the system we're playing would be perfect for two of our defenders which are out on loan: Wisdom and Ilori. I don't see Can's future at RCB, so Wisdom could slot seamlessly in there. He has the technical ability (he also plays RB) and could be an English Sakho on the right for us. Ilori would I think be perfect for Skrtel's place. He has impressive pace to be the covering defender and has the aerial ability too.

What do all of you think about this? And I would much appreciate your opinion too ed001.

Believable11 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - I agree, especially on Wisdom. I think a back 3 would be the best fit for him. Having those two alongside Sakho would give us so much pace at the back, allowing for a higher line and a higher press.}

I agree with that fella.

Agree0 Disagree6

Zpecialzone, keep on dreaming. As much as every LFC fan would love to see a back 3 of Wisdom, sakho and Ilori, it will not happen because our manager apparently does not rate any of them enough to guarantee a first team place. Wisdom and Ilori were unceremoniously shipped out on pointless loans while Sakho only made the team after Lovren's shocking performances. It will simply will not happen, especially with Skrtel still at the club who is a guaranteed starter.

Agree3 Disagree11

Ed001 what is your opinion of Ilori do you think he has a future at Liverpool is he good enough?

Agree0 Disagree6

{Ed001's Note - potentially he is good enough, right now he is not quite, but then neither is Can really in the centre back role. If you have the right set up, you can cover for their deficiencies and allow them to grow into the role. I think Ilori could well do so, given the chance. Sadly, I think his time might have passed him by while on loan.}

Thanks Ed. What are your thoughts in regard to Lovren. I mean if we are playing Can in defense which I thought wasn't his natural position the signs don't seem good as to his future at the club.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - no signs are not good, but he should be given time to prove himself, Hendo looked on his way out not so long ago and now look at him!}

Ed, do you actually rate Sakho? Personally I am scared every time I see him with the ball at his feet. He seems to like the easy pass and sometimes even that seems to faze him and he passing to the opposition. I do think Lovren has a lack of confidence at the minute but you don't turn into a bad player over night. He played well in his first few matches for the club. I would love to see Illori given his chance to.

Baz

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - I am scared for anyone that thinks that! The problem is that he doesn't always take the easy pass, he is so busy looking for the right ball that he ends up getting caught. If he would just take the easy ball, he would never get caught out, but it would not help us build from the back. His heading is the problem, not his passing. He played some very good signings.}

Ed001, is Lovren moving on in the summer a possibility? Personally i think that would be a horrendous decision on the club's part. We paid 20 million GBP for this guy and giving up on a player who cost so much after just one season is just ridiculous. The likes of Kompany, koscielny did not pull up any trees in their first seasons at their clubs and a defenders usually take time to adapt to a new club. I think Lovren would do well in th current system in Skrtel's position as the last defender just behind Sakho and Can.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - right now it is too early to say mate.}

Lovren would do fine in the back 3 should start vs bolton

Agree2 Disagree1

Every time I watch wisdom he's awful. West brom fans don't rate him and even yesterday watching MOTD he was so easily turned for the Spurs goal he is not close to good enough in my opinion

Agree2 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - sorry but West Brom fans don't rate him? Is this a poll you have conducted amongst them all? Or is this just one Baggies fan that you know that has told you he doesn't like him?}

That's true it is only the one person but that said he's always at fault for goals always under a cross or getting caught between himself and the center back and last night when Kane tore him a new one very very easily because wisdom didn't have the ability to shift his feet he's so poor positionanly and he can't antisipate danger at all

Agree0 Disagree1

Lovren likes to leave gaps in the back four but is too slow to cover them when they are exploited. No thanks.

To be fair on Lovren all our defenders looked poor without Lucas in front of them. Lovren will be fine I'm sure now that we're playing with a proper DM. Sakho looked poor last season and earlier this season too.

What an attacking young vibrant team we have.
The future is really bright in my opinion.
I think Coutinho is turning into world class right in front of our eyes.
Brilliant player. Simply magical.
Lallana is just unfit. His influence will return with game time.
Sturridge is still what 24/25. Wow.
Sterling looks fresh as a daisy (good call BR) and Henderson is making me forget Gerrard, a higher compliment I don't think I could give him.
Real future potential in Ibe and Markovic as well.
5 of those players are English as well.
I can't help but think what this team may do over the coming years!!
My question is, how much of it is down to our manager?
Is our future brighter under Rodgers or under someone else.
I think its a case of better the devil you know at this moment.
Keep Rodgers.
I would welcome some thoughts on this.

Believable12 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am surprised no one is mentioning the cross field pass Hendo hit in the first half - Gerrardesque if ever I have seen one!}

Henderson has more influence when Gerrard is not on the pitch.
He assumes responsibilty but when Gerrard plays he defers that responsibilty to Gerrard, or he did when Gerrard was playing in the CDM role.
I think the average age of that team yesterday was 23 yrs old.
You can't help but get excited about this team.
I also like the way that this team has improved against the odds, This team has had to fight it's way up the league.
And it is fighting.
Fighting with real quality.

I'd keep Rogers. A lot of the summer signings starting to fit in with the team from last year. can markovic moreno and lallana will all prove good buys. We always needed to buy a good few players to increase squad size and common sense tells you they not all going to be a good fit. Onwards and upwards my fellow reds

Agree10 Disagree1

Nail on the head Jonnyb couldn't agree more. Henderson is one of the top professionals in the game. He loves his football gets his head down and works his socks off every minute of every game or training session. He may never quite get to the level of Gerard but for me he could be just as influential for the team.

Agree3 Disagree0

Superreds, his signings may have started to bare fruit, but what will happen in the summer when he wants to sign more? Will we have to wait another half season to see good football and results again?

Agree1 Disagree3

I was thinking that myself as everyone can see we tried sign costa sanchez ect didn't come we lost Sturrdige for 5 months ! ! ! Suarez gone was huge I think if we sign a quality striker keeper and a DM or CB (a good organiser) we can challenge for the league again thanks to Rogers whi we should support

01 Feb 2015 13:28:10
What an engine Hendo has! He still needs to work on his shooting and freekicks though. But he's improved so much over a short period of time that it is only a matter of time before he ticks those boxes as well. How criminal was it to waste him on the right!!

Rodgers needs to lose his arrogance, learn quickly from mistakes and stop being adamant, and manage 'everyone' in the team better while not talking himself up in every presser. Apart from that he's a good coach imo

Agree0 Disagree2

We have a great basis to go into next year, quality in all positions plus quality backup in all but keeper and striker roles.
Most signings settling in now, and by next year will be that wee bit older, more experienced and set in our style of play.

Get in a top experienced (Benzema) striker, keeper to challenge Migs and we are set for years, only buying one top quality player each year and letting the youth filter into the team.

Agree3 Disagree0

Ed001, that was a sublime pass, Henderson is a good player and an extremely hard worker.

Not sure what people disagree with? That he had a good game or that we should sort out his contract? Elaborate if you think if he played poorly or that we should sell him.

How many times did Sakho head the ball away? He must have concussion!
Another magic display by Cout, Sterling was also very sharp, Hendo/Lukas both solid.
The one thing i'm not going to do is give the coach any credit, he gives himself enough. Plus it should have been Lalana to come off not Markovic.

We win comfortably and people still find pointless things to b***h about. Lallana and markovic both had fairly average games. Ever think Rodgers wanted just wanted to see how lallana played at rwb??
Some of these anti Rodgers posts just sound petty.

If Rodgers wanted a right wing back he should have bought one instead of spending 25 mil on an attacking midfielder.

Do you not think as a young player, the experience Markovic will gain could prove invaluable?
That's the position just behind his natural position, so he will gain much knowledge of how much defensive work needs doing.
Especially as he's pretty much running the entire flank on his own.

Didn't do Sterling any harm playing fullback for LFC

Hi ed01 was wondering if you could give an appraisal of how you think each of the new signings have done or are settling in after going through spell earlier on in the season when if I remember correctly none of the new signings were starting. Can for me has really impressed recently considering his age and where he is being played.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - ok mate:

Adam Lallana - looks good on the ball, though he didn't have the best of games yesterday, works extremely hard but sometimes looks like he is trying too hard to impress. Not sure he was what we need but he is a good player, on good days he runs games, he just hasn't been fit enough to do so yet this season.

Lazar Markovic - struggled early, but is now starting to look better and better. Another one who works hard, quick and tricky, but needs to settle down properly and boost his confidence in front of goal. I like him though, he is not afraid to get involved, starting to build an understanding with Can as well.

Dejan Lovren - I really rate him, but he has been awful. He has been unable to build any kind of partnership with any of our other defenders. Very disappointing.

Mario Balotelli - just doesn't care about anything, even when he makes an effort it is still half-arsed. Shoots from ridiculous areas and loses possession constantly. So far an awful signing.

Alberto Moreno - struggled early to find his feet, not helped by struggling to work with Lovren. Now he has Sakho behind him, he is beginning to look much more comfortable as he can concentrate on getting forward. Still not convinced by him defensively, but he is quick and so can get back when caught out.

Divock Origi - not played for us yet so won't appraise him, but still think it is odd to sign him and leave him out on loan when strikers were what we desperately needed in the summer.

Emre Can - looking better and better. Comfortable on the ball, looks imperious when striding forward with the ball from the defensive line but he struggles when under pressure defensively. He needs to work on his defending, but he has got a good understanding with Markovic.

Rickie Lambert - just hasn't been able to get the chances he needs to settle down and show what he can do. He tries far too hard though when he is in the team.

Javier Manquillo - the Spanish Glenn Johnson. Technically excellent but lazy and tends to stroll about the pitch far too much when defending is needed. Not convinced by him at all, which is why he finds Markovic at right wing back, when he should be completely suited to it.}

01 Feb 2015 09:17:21
Probably the only one I disagree with is Manquillo. Works much, much harder than Johnson and is a better defender. He lacks attacking quality but can't be faulted for effort.

Agree13 Disagree4

Agree w/ Essex there. Manquillo is works hard and gives effort even tho he is a bit rough around the edges. Comparing him to GJ is doing him a great disservice because GJ does nothing and shows no effort or commitment and hasn`t on a consistent level for years.

Agree1 Disagree0

I can't disagree with that edd!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am surprised by people thinking Manquillo works hard, he strolls back into defensive every single time now. He worked hard in his first couple of games, then became lazy. That is why he is a back up now.}

02 Feb 2015 08:05:53
Manquillo doesn't work hard. What he does do is put in a lot of 'bluster' when he does run so it looks like he's been throwing himself up and down the pitch all night, when really it's just the second time he's run in 45mins

At a little over half way I've been thinking about the roller coaster that has been this season.

Suarez going and the decision to replace him with a few players to bolster the squad I thought was sensible. Everyone still expected that striker though, Mario hasn't worked, we'd should move on and move him on.

We didn't play the high pressing game as last year and for whatever reason Brendan just set us up different.

Brendan was under pressure and I personally think a lesser man would have given up.

Instead he stumbles across a 3-5-2 and wow, look at how this team is playing, we matched Chelsea over two legs and with a striker would be in the final, Brendan never signed that Sturridge backup though did he.

Where are we now? 17 out of a possible 21? Summer signings looking good? Clean sheets?

Credit where it's due, he has turned it around, I pray he had learnt from the first half of this season.

I think Liverpool are in top 4 and pushing championship winning form.

For the record I have never hoped the manager would be sacked, sure he talks pish sometimes but he has something about him.

Shoot me down or agree, I don't care, just fancied a post and hopefully a pro Liverpool one will be published for once.

Atb

Believable17 Unbelievable2

The issue is he played the high press last season and we were sublime, beginning of this season he decided to go back to his old stubborn 433 tactics of possession with no pressing and it backfired big time.
We wouldn't have been in this situation if he didn't change what wasn't broken in the first place.

What's gets me is the posters who hate Rodgers no matter what. We were abysmal for most of the season up to Christmas and BR and the team was rightly criticised. Now we're playing a lot better and we should support the team and enjoy the way we're playing, at least see where we are at the end of the season.

Agree10 Disagree0

The guy still botched our season and while its all good losing gloriously to chelsea and emphatically beating teams such as burnley 1-0, the season has been ruined based solely on his errors. So, so many things he could have done differently that would have seen us play better this year, and achieve more success.

What i worry about is that the same arrogance that has ruined our season has showed no signs of being eradicated. He stil seems as far up his own arse as he was when we were losing games. what's to say he won't revert back to a 433, that he won't try and get us to play passing football again? Because i think he will. I think he will continue to make mistakes and never learn from them.

So just because we are playing well now, look around at the bigger picture. Is it as good as last year? No. Can we really see this starting line up being sustainable in the future? No. Are players still played out of position? Yes. Are players still wasting away in the reserves, on loan or out of position? Yes. Do we still have surplus players? Yes.

Agree5 Disagree11

Spot on Woolback. Did you know, Liverpool are the 5th highest spenders in the world since 2012?! Higher than City and Monaco even!

Rodgers inabikity to utilise the academy is putting our club into so much debt and ultimately, that cannot be sustained. People on here have very short memories. A few dignified draws and defeats against good teams and a good winning run against teams we should be beating and all is Rosy for some!

Not for me. If we take points off of Everton, Southampton, Tottenham, United, City and Arsenal in our next 8 or so Premier League games then fair enough. I might start to consider Rodgers deserving another season. All we've done is beat relegation fodder and nearly get knocked out of both cups in a week.

The team definitely looks stronger now Rodgers has changed the style, tried a new formation and dropped under performing players but I am not that fickle that I will start loving the manager after 1 semi-good month.

For me, he needs to finish at least 4th, win a trophy and start to integrate players like Ibe, Rossiter, Smith etc into the first team. Even then I'm not sure I would trust him to touch another transfer budget and I severely doubt he'll accept a Director of Football.

He is learning to swim, but he isn't out of the water just yet!

Agree4 Disagree9

Essex, I agree that those who use the word "hate" or truely hate BR should go fly a kite because there is no place for language like that. Now IMO, those who criticize BR like myself, defo don`t hate him neither do we questiong his coaching ability (he had us smashing teams for fun due to a system that mad Suarez an 80m pound striker so he can coach). It is all the other unforced errors, media and TW bunders (even the owners don`t trust him w/ money hence, the commitee of which he is a member and not that the commitee is ruling/standing over him), and trying to shove a failed pass-pass system on players that don`t thrive on it just to prove he is a genius (wasting a half season in the process for the 3rd season in a row), fix the defence, and freezing players out because he likes his faves playing every game as well as NEVER giving our youth a sniff, is what many of us cannot stand. The worst crime to me, is that he refuses to learn and change for the better ONLY until he is under the cosh and his job is on the line. What type of manager does that? He has turned it around for sure BUT did we need to be in this position if he had just swallowed his pride and arrogance and stuck to a successful system, accepted help with transfers? These errors happened and due to them, we are now playing catchup for the 3rd season in a row. We will never win the PL with these types of shambles. The manager needs to show he knows what he is doing ALL the time, not HALF the time. FSG will not tolerate this type of mismanageent and I don`t blame them because I defo wouldn`t. Do I like BR, Of course! But we cannot just sit back and act like these unwarranted and unforced (IMO) blunders did not happen because they are why we are not in a much better position in the league (could have had at most, 10 more points on the board right now). Just my opinion.
