Macherano back for a 6 month loan? If take him, may not be possible but he is a very good DM on England..

Id forgive him for refusing to train if he came back to help LFC out.

Just my opinion

red snake

Sorry was on my phone here -

*i'd take him

I hate Masch more than Torres!

Mascherano !
That's just wrong.

Just got back up on satelite to find Lucas out for rest of season. Gutted. A lot of the names getting mentioned as replacements on here are crazy however! Gerrard is attacking minded and a holding mid is nearly allways picked when he plays, spearing is just a year younger than Lucas but started 22 games in 4 seasons. A foreign player will need time to settle (we dont have time as there are now at least 6 sides gunning for top 4) knowing this I think the formation of the side will change to compensate or someone with prem experience will be bought.. Kenny brought in Prem players this season because he knew they were use to the league and he could not afford a season with a lot of foreign players adapting. I would not be surprised to see the old names of Huddlestone, cattermole and with city looking to reduce there wage bill Barry get looked at.

I dont understand why you say a foreign player will need time to settle, not every single foreign player is unable to adapt to prem football. Why settle for a pretty average player such as catermole when a player like moussa sissoko is of much better quality and better physically built to play that position. We need to stop buying english only players, as im sorry but alot of the names mentioned on here are not players who will help us be sucessful.

Johnny

Cut off before I could sign off. but thinking about it whats the chances of mascherano on loan? dedicated champ league win against the mancs to us and limited playing there? know he left badly but 6 month loan could suit us?

Team I would play against Fulham on Monday.

--------------Reina---------------

-Johnson--Skrtle--Agger--Enrique-

---------Adam--Spearing---------

--Maxi-----Henderson----Bellamy-

-------------Suarez-------------

I think Bellamy has to start because of his good form and Maxi had a blinder here last season. Think Spearing should slot in for Lucas for the 'wee mans' defensive qualities he brings.
I would have the formation free flowing with Bellers and Maxi swapping sides and if we needed to slot into a 4-4-2 then Maxi would slot onto the left side with Hendo on the right and Bellers up top with Suarez.

Thoughts?

Sabian378

Thats exactly my team except I prefer 4-3-3 but 4-2-3-1 works as well

Prob our best team at present.

Carroll for Spearing at home. Spearing for away games or tougher teams, then Carroll bench. Big lad needs to play and find some form.

Carrol in center midfield?

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Henderson Spearing Adam
Bellamy Suarez Maxi

Subs:Doni,Coates,Kelly,Coady,Shelvey,Downing,Carroll

So, leaving out the hardest working player we have? Not even as a sub? Dirk, these muppets are not worthy of your sweat...
ND

Sell Dirk in jan. Doesn't suit pass and move football. Just loses the ball.

This business of who can replace Lucas. An attacking ball playing Central Defender is capable of being a holding/defensive midfielder. Of the Central defenders we have Agger is probably the best suited to switching to this role. HOWEVER, has anyone considered switching formations totally and playing three Central Defenders in a triangle shape with two attacking wing backs? We are more than equipped player-wise to do that. A trio of Skrtel, Agger with Carragher sweeping across them, with Enrique and Johnson playing the wing-back role. We would still have Flanagan, Kelly and Coates in reserve and that would negae the need for a holding/def Mid. RED LENIN

I was thinking that myself but I think a bit to defensive to play against weaker teams and would also allow too much space to shoot from range if we replace a midfielder with a centreback but I guess Carragher would be clever enough to read this?

Hmmm... so much for not playing players out of position. We didnt recall Shelvey from loan for nothing. Agger & Skrtel are currently the best CD patnership in the EPL. Why change it?

Any news on when Suarez hearing will take place. All seems to have gone quiet from our pathetic FA.

At least the positive aspect of Lucas being injured is that nobody is posting ridiculous rumours or questions about strikers.

01 Dec 2011 22:03:36
everybody already mentioning names on WHO should we buy to replace lucas due to his injury!!! why? end of day lucas is at the moment 1 of our most important players and will return next season so why dont we just use a reserve or youth team player? some will say becase they wont have experience but u only get that experience by playing and gaining the experience.. id play either spearing, henderson or look to the reserve side and play conner coady!! also shelvey will be quality in a few years if givern a chance, he is like a young gerrard!!

01 Dec 2011 22:02:50
conor coady is not goin to be in contention what u think ed?? {Ed001's Note - it is always possible, it is not entirely out of the question, we could easily get more injuries yet.}

01 Dec 2011 21:41:44
Hi Ed do you think Ben Arfa would be a good player to look at? He's quick creative and could link up with Suarez well and provide that spark in the midfield. {Ed001's Note - no, he has a terrible attitude and would not be a good signing for a big club.}

01 Dec 2011 21:37:57
Looks like Spearing will get some game time, especially away from home. A defensive midfielder is a specialist position. You can't be throwing any midfielder to do the job properly. You have to have discipline, especially with Adam in the team who, as good as he has been for us, isn't a great defender. Maybe if Gerrard with back & raring to go, we could play Hendo & Gerrard together due to their mobility. It's a pity for Lucas, he has been top quality for the team. A true pro.

The Irish Rover

Kenny doesn't really fancy a DM. He likes 4-4-2 with both CM's getting up and down. Lucas and Adam were doing this, so even Henderson could fill this role - maybe not as good defending as Lucas but will get fwd more.

01 Dec 2011 21:21:27
Is Juan Agudelo signing for liverpool? {Ed002's Note - A trial at this tiem.}

R u sure its a trial ?? {Ed001's Note - well he is training with us, it is more about giving him experience of Premier League level training. The MLS are trying to set up a regular thing where their top young talents come and train in England during their close season. Arsenal have Brek Shea training with them as part of the same operation.}

Quite a few USA under 21 players are training with Prem teams in MLS off season.

The lucas song ( copa cobanna )

Lucas oh Lucas leiva the guy that we all used to give stick !
Lucas oh Lucas leiva is now the first guy that we all pick !
We realised he is pure class, he puts all strikers on there ass
He tackles n battles n grafts an he has got an almighty pass
Lucas oh Lucas leiva the guy that has turned scouse !

needs tweaking what do u think we need a kop lucas song im sick of all the same songs " stevie highway on the wing " we need a lucas song, an agger song, a adam song and deffo a bellamy song

Craig beller is a mad fella
he will boooom the ball in the net
craig beller the class fella
made john terry his pet

what do u think

Henderson song (to the tune of Give it Up by K.c and the Sunshine Band) -

Everybody wants you,
Everybody wants your skills,
We just wanna make you ours, oh ours

Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Lucas, Lucas Leiva, Lucas Leiva,
Lucas, Lucas Leiva
(The second verse repeats again)

This song can work for a few players too

I like the lucas song that goes to tune of Halleieugh(terrible spelling no idea(the one song by Alexandra Burke))

That's a proper insult to call it a Alexandra burke song, Halleluia was originally done by leanard Cohen she murdered it,

BTW I meant to type Lucas song and not Henderson song, sorry.

Hi ed,

Do you think I would be correct in saying we will not buy another DM in january. I think that due to Lucas' quality it would be stupid to buy another DM who will have to go to the bench once Lucas comes back. In addition to this both Spearing and Coady could play this position, although Coady is inexperienced would be a good time to give him a bit.

I dont think we should buy another unless we are going to sell one in Jan, I would hate to think Lucas lost his place because we bought a replacment for him due to injury, or that a new player would be benched just because Lucas is back.

Rewflo {Ed002's Note - Not necessarily. I expecting Spearing and perhaps Shelvy will be given a shot in the first instance.}

Hi ed. I'm not trying to start a rant or anything but its shelvey not shelvy.Just in case you didn't know. thanks

Danny

Eds, I'll probably get slated for this but how about Danny agger to fill in the Lucas spot. We would have to play the right formation but I really believe he would be good. Carra could slot in at cb as usual.
I know we have jay, jonjo and Hendo who could do this but I personally don't know if they would have the discipline to hold the dm spot.
Agger has the defensive capabilities and he can pass the ball as good as the next man.
Don't think kk will be keen to break up the cb pairing which is doing so well at the minute but just food for thought.
Andy the red {Ed002's Note - I guess for me it makes sense to use a midfield player in a midfield role rather than a defender.}

I tend to agree ed but i feel agger could do the job and a better job than spearing he is quicker more confident on the ball pretty good distribution and quite good going forward as a stop gap i think its quite a good shout.
stuart {Ed002's Note - Why do it though. Why play folks out of position. I appreciate you may not like Spearing and want him out.}

Ed, know where your coming from and I am usually of the same opinion on playing players out of position. The reason I say this about agger is that I have always felt that he could play midfield because of his
Passing and he seems to have no
Fear of going forward. Not saying I am right in anyway or that this will happen but just thought I'd put it out there.
Keep up the good work and thanks for the site.
Andy the red {Ed001's Note - we need Agger at the back to create space for the midfield by occupying the opposition's forwards. They can't drop off or Agger will bring it forward, which gives Adam room to play his passes.}

It would disrupt the balance that we've got in defence, would you want that to happen?

KT!

I agree somewhat about agger, but jonjo is more a stevie g type player. playing him in lucas' position would also mean "playing him out of position". So whether its agger or jonjo, its not an ideal situation to be in

01 Dec 2011 20:49:25
I think Hendo can replace Lucas. Look at his attributes 6 ft tall, quick, passing improving, all the perfect attributes for a defensive midfielder. He needs to get stronger in the tackle and try and curb his going forward to often thoughts, but he is definitely best placed for me.

Is he not an attacking midfielder?

Quite amusing how you say perfect attributes for a def mid and then say he needs to learn how to tackle. Surely tackling is more important than those?

Not just that but def mid positioning is vastly different to even Central

Do we actually play with a DM or just 2 CM's where one is more defensive. Mikel at Chelski (4-3-3) is a DM who sits behind two other CM's.

01 Dec 2011 20:42:00
Juan Agudelo is coming for a trial...my mate keeps on going on about him hopefully he will impress.

GuvTOB

01 Dec 2011 20:35:50
I think Conor Coady should be given a fair chance in the first 11 against the weaker teams as cover for lucas. Think is up for it?

Not over spearing mate maybe as a sub

01 Dec 2011 20:23:45
I'll be honest! I was never a great fan of Lucas and intact thought he was one of our week link. But last year he proved he was getting better and better and more consistent. This year he is our most important midfielder.
Benitez brought him.. He had a great reputation. Hodgson stuck by him and yet again I thought he was as bad as ngog. Dalglish plays him and his confidence is now sky high that it shows in his play.
I slap myself for wrongly judging his talent

01 Dec 2011 20:09:08
I'm going to agree with a post I saw earlier...

We have 6 games in December. Obviously we can't bring a player in until January so we will have to make do with the fit CM's we have at the moment- Adam, Spearing, Shelvey and Coady.

I think it's obvious the two who are most likely to start most games are Adam and Spearing.

So this really could be Spearing's time to shine. A player who was brilliant for us towards the end of last season and a player who never does a bad job when he plays for us. Given a run of 6 games in the team, although against arguably not too strong an opposition, he could really make a statement and shine.

If he does, then why waste money on a CDM?

The inclusion of Coady into the first team would be excellent as well as I feel it can only help his development as a senior play by being on the bench and perhaps getting 10mins here or there.

If Spearing can do half a good job as Lucas has been lately, then that is still pretty dam good.

Well we can always play henderson in the middle so we could have:

Downing Adam Hendo Maxi

Manno

Against spurs/city/arsenal? no mate

Then just play 5 man midfield with Spearing in to. Why is this such an issue?

01 Dec 2011 20:06:23
the carrol question was wat youthink is going on with him not starting not playing to his strenths has kk lost faith or was it a panic buy wats your thoughts? personaly i think he can be a great centre forward if we play to his strenths and he needs game time for everyone to get to no how to play with him! seriously something is not right pls eds 001 your thoughts {Ed002's Note - Posting the same message over and over again and requesting a specific editor to answer is a waste of your time in addition to ours.}

It is in fact the definition of madness according to einstein ed.

01 Dec 2011 20:04:22
Lucas news saddens me but I think this time last yeaar if we had lost Lucas and Gerrard we'd be fooked however now we have options

My thoughts on CDM replacment

Adam- could play CDM however he may lack the tackling abillity in the final third however he has improved this area greatly recently

Spearing- the most CDM mould we have and gives passion and blood but not sure if he can stick to a dangerman as I feel he is better running round putting out fires before they start but a great player no the less and should be given his chance

Hendo- can stay back and is intelligent enough and technically sound enough to be the man staying back however would not like him to play there personaly

Shelvey- No! He would be wasted at the back as his main talents lies in picking a pass and creativity

Coady- Would love to see him bought on in the last 15min of a comfortable game but at this point still inexperianced.

Personaly I would play with Hendo and Adam in the middle now both taking responsibility to track back and to play spearing if were playing 5 in the middle and 1 upfront -McMenemy

I would like to see a five man midfield with either Henderson or Spearing alongside with Shelvy playing the advanced midfield role similar to how Gerrard used to play with Torres, especially for away games.

Sorry, 'alongside Adam'

Hi ed's! Who do you recon will step up into Lucas's role? Do you recon dalglish will try and sign someone to cover or stick to what we have got? {Ed001's Note - well he won't be signing anyone before January, but I do think there will be a move for a midfielder in January. Just not sure who right now.}

01 Dec 2011 19:34:26
eds 001 you didnt reply to the carol part of my question would like your toughts pls {Ed001's Note - sorry I must have missed that, what was your question about Carroll?}

01 Dec 2011 19:30:22
Sanchez is not getting enough playing time at Barca and wants to move so he could be on his way to Liverpool. {Ed001's Note - give it up! He has not been playing due to injury.}

Its becoz of the game time afforded to him that Villa is rumoured to be unhappy there plus of course the "Messi" issues.........

they bought him for around 40mil plus euros...

Why should they sell him?

Do you really follow football?

hi eds great site just want your thoughts on couple of things firstly carrol is there deeper things going on to why he is not starting personaly i think he can be a great centre forward but we need to start playing to his strenths witch we are not at the moment so no one can judge him yet! also wat the percentage is there that torres will come back everything liverpool is right for him hence why he was so good for us bar his last season but was injured alot love your thoughts on this cheers also lennon would be great signing {Ed001's Note - Torres is not coming back, thankfully and Lennon (I guess you mean Aaron) is not good enough.}

We tried to play to Carroll strengths earlier in season and it cost us points. Now we are playing on the deck and pass and move like we used to we are much better.

Rewflo

No, our defense cost us points. Now that we have Agger & Skrtel in CD we much more solid. Perhaps if we did supply Carroll a few more decent crosses we would score a few more goals.

01 Dec 2011 18:55:11
He has a good four months within his 4.5 years at Liverpool and he is suddenly World class. He has been their most hated player during the other 4 years and two months. How fickle are some fans. At least Ed001 has noticed his attributes for a while now, the rest of you are thick as pig sh1t.

*************************************

The amazingly retarded blabbering's of united's fan SYDNEY...Some people just cant admit that liverpool players can be/are some of the best in the prem

IMO Lucas is the best CDM in the prem

The best cmd?? Your kidding right {Ed002's Note - I rather think that we are done with this stream of conciousness.}

01 Dec 2011 18:53:45
Crazy how things have evolved. Three years ago most of us thought Lucas was the weak link in the squad, and now he is the best player (arguably more important than Suarez). I think Jay Spearing can do the trick in games where we need defensive midfielder. I think Adam has improved defense dramatically over the past few games, and this will help, and this gives a golden opportunity for Henderson to play his favorite position next to Adam. Shelvey a more than capable backup. I think in the end this will strengthen the club as Spearing and Shelvey have to play now regularly. Steven G would be an obvious boost, but from the lack of info on him I suspect he too is out longterm (atleast til January).

I don't think this is a reason to panic and go buy a new defensive midfielder, though this will obviously affect our January transfer plans. Perhaps buy a defensive mid, and when Stevie comes back put him up front as a support striker.

For the love of God, I hope nobody suggests recalling Aquilani. He is doing well with Milan, and would surely be crushed if he were asked to come back.

Horrible news regarding Lucas and hope he recovers as soon as possible and comes back stronger. He is the heartbeat of our current team and on merit, and he has always given us 100% off and on the field.

So maybe we should have that in mind before we knock some of our other players.

Was just watching videos of suarez and huntelaar together, think huntelaar is a great player, prolific goalscorer, would be great signing in the summer, mayb time for kuyt to move on.

Surely we need someone of Cavanni/Lavezzi standard, Huntelaar was a good player but he is not even half the player he once was

MJ

I would see lavezzi too similar to Suarez, Huntelaar will sit on the last man and give suarez the room he needs to perform, Huntelaar at 28 would give u 3 good seasons taking into account Andy Carroll is der too but needs much improvment

I think I read somewhere that city were linked with a move for Lavezzi although saw it in passing. Not saying it's concrete though.

before lucas got injured i was saying to my mates that we still dont fully appreciate how good he is, and we will only see how important he is if he left (although i doubt he will leave us anytime soon). then the very same night he gets a serious injury. :(
just wanted to say: get well soon lucas, fantastic player, and will be missed.

how can the commentator not see that the number 8 was purely coady? on the reserves match vs wolves?

Yep , I couldn't understand it neither . Particularly as Jon Flanagan was still on the pitch wearing no.6 .

The commentator was calling both players - no.8 & no.6 - Flanagan , even in the same passing move . Ridiculous .

Is there any chance of Daniel De Rossi as his contract runs out in 6 months?

Excellent player. A leader of men in the Roy Keane mould. Are you sure his contract is up? Surprised more clubs aren't after him so. Expect City will want him.

Hugh Pugh.

01 Dec 2011 18:15:37
Its good to back your players and wee Jay who according to Reina trains harder than the rest of the squad. He therefore fully deserves his chance at CDM and he will surely get it with Fulham, QPR, Villa, Wigan, Blackburn and Newcastle all to play this month.

What happens if Jay gets injured or he does an "Insua" - plays well for 5 games and then has a mare for 3, loses confidence and we havn't defensive cover of a high standard?

What happens if Adam gets injured during these games and Gerrard is not match fit until February/March?

Its unfair, naive and not clever to expect Henderson and Shelvey to play most games at a high level. They are still learning.

If we want to finish in the top 4 we need to enter the Jan market and buy/loan a relativley experienced CDM that posses high technical ability and is in good form.

Look what Scotty Parker has given to Spurs - stability and platform of confidence for the rest of the team to play. Lucas did this perfectly well for us and Jay deserves his chance to show that he can do this.

BUT Kenny should IMO be looking to bring in a quality CDM should one be available. We dont want to be going into January with a weak centre midfield, we need a strong midfield 3 in good form to play against City at least one has to be strong defensively.

But what if the players we sign get injured or play good for 5 games then have a mare lose confidence and end up rubbish? Maybe we should sign 2 def mid...wait what if both of them get injured or have a mare and... See where I'm going?

The Economist

We only have 5 or 6 games until jan

01 Dec 2011 18:10:35
Gutted to find out my initial suspicions about Lucas were true. If there is a silver for Lucas it is the timing of the injury. I know not in a football sense but in reality anywhere up to a 9 month recovery from ACL reconstruction would yield better results than rushing for a 6-7 month return. At least Lucas will be able to get a good chunk of pre season under his belt and be ready for the start of next season.

I think after injuries like this we all wonder whether players will return as good as before, but with ligament being a non-contractile structure like muscle or tendon it should have less impact on the individual as long as it heals properly. There is much less chance of re-injury in comparison to hamstrings or groin tears as examples. The biggest thing I would imagine for Lucas would be the psychological aspect to his game given how he plays.

Good luck in the recovery Lucas and don't rush him back, we don't need a repeat of Michael Essen.

Cheers
Greggers

hi ed, as lucas is now out for the whole season. its a downer on our team i believe as i just thought we was coming together nicely again, but do you think now its spearing time to shine? and if not him, do you think we will re-enter trying to get keita from barca to fill the void?
tonkz {Ed001's Note - I doubt Keita is the answer, he is a very average player in my opinion, certainly not a player I would want to see turning out for us. I am sure the players we have will be given December to prove they are up to the job of covering before a decision is made, considering we can't buy until January.}

Mvilla is the lad we should go for.I know we would have to pay lot for him,but it would be a long term investment.

Yeah i believe mvilla will be a major signing for us if we could get him... and thanks ed for replying appreciated it. even tho shelvey already back he could pave the way forward into the side

What do fellow Liverpool supporters think of Danny Wilson.

He is improving alot. i saw him making partnership with Coates against Sunderland reserves and he merely putted a foot wrong. He can become great for us, if he can keep it up. YNWA

He did okay at Wednesday for a while.

He might only become a competitive first team player in a few years time . I can't see him making a first team impact anytime soon .

01 Dec 2011 17:50:43
What about Carragher in d midfield till stevie returns in january. Played there before and will give 110%

Good idea. he did play there so i think he would do well. keep us solid. great back up. j

So when David Silva has the ball Carra can keep up with him? :/

McSnuggles

I couldn't stand seeing him hoof it from midfield. I don;t think Kenny could either.

LIVERPRES

DM isn't about pace. He can sit in front of the back four and let the rest of midfield attack. Lucas isn't the quickest and he did great job against silva

I'm more worried about his absolute lack of passing ability. Great defender in his time but You need at least basic passing skills to play def mid.

Rewflo

What is this fascination with Carragher? Why do some fans think he is always the answer. He has had his time (too much of it, in my opinion) and should be being groomed for the coaching side. He is not good enough to be in this current Liverpool side and with Kelly and Coates showing great promise they should be used and not Carragher. I personally hope that our reserves (who are members of the 1st team squad) get a chance and hat we don't go looking for unnecessary players in January.

Gutted for Lucas, hope he returns to continue the fine progress he has made.

01 Dec 2011 17:30:14
Bad luck for Lucas just as he started to come into his own , but I think spearing is more than capable of filling the void.

Don't really think we should be buying cover for Lucas , if we are going to buy a midfielder then I think we should only be looking at stevie g's replacement.

If there's an area of our team with to many players then its definetly midfield area.

Losing lucas is a massive blow and I hope he gets well soon.

But wee jay (as kenny likes to call him. Haha) will let nobody down.

Rmbr how well he did last season when gerrard was out? He was one of our best players.

If nothing else, once he pulls on the red shirt, jay spearing will run until he cnt run anymore, tackle til he gets the ball and chase a game until the ref blows the final whistle. That's smthimg no amount of money can buy. Juz look at torres and tevez and u will noe what I mean.

We will manage any adversity.

When torres left, we got on with it and became better. When gerrard got injured, we got on with it and became better.

Our squad will deal w/o lucas. Who knows? We may become better.

And that's because we're not juz any team.

We are Liverpool.

C'mon lads, let's get going and welcome lucas back with a champions league campaign nxt season!

Absolutely gutted about Lucas (and no I have never been one of these supporters that didn't like him).

Anyway, in a funny way this could be the thing that finally turns the remaining doubters towards realising how good he actually is and what he brings to and does for the team.

In a similar way to when carragher was out of the team for nearly a year after breaking his leg against Blackburn.

There were a few doubters then and he came back and had arguably the best 3-4 years of his career.

Get well soon Lucas!!

01 Dec 2011 17:04:31
people are forgetting i think in jan or early this month we will have gerrard back as a midfield option so can any of the eds tell me how long he is out roughly {Ed001's Note - no one knows yet, it will be Jan at the earliest though, not latest.}

01 Dec 2011 17:01:35

We will not be signing another CM to replace or cover Lucas. He is out for the season but we will look to play Adam and Spearing/Shelvey/Henderson until January when it is looking like Gerrard will be back. Then Gerrard and Adam will be the 2 CMs we play with until the end of the season. Losing Lucas is a massive blow though, he had to go through hell with all the fickle sh*tstabbers getting on his case when he has always been class and now he is the best Defensive Midfielder in the world.

Get well soon Lucas!

YNWA

RedBlood

Getting tired of all these lucas worshippers, we get it, he has came leaps and bounds but he is not world class, lol but he is becoming a very good player who's heart is with the club unlike other 'world class' players

01 Dec 2011 16:49:54
Lucas get better soon mate you are the best defensive midfielder in the prem. But Kenny always finds solutions and he always says that his focus his the players that are fit.

The options are good with Adam, spearing, hendo, shelvey and coady and there is stevie gerrard to come back. And i have a lot of confidence in the squad. Eds I notice that flanno as been playing as CDM for the reserves do the club see this as a position in the long run for him? Also downing as played in the centre before so thats another option amd thats why you build a squad.

Mighty reds {Ed001's Note - yes, his lack of pace was a problem at full back, but his ability on the ball has meant he has coped well with the change in position.}

01 Dec 2011 16:38:41
Hi ed, now lucas is injured who do u think we will replace him with and could we recall aqualani back? {Ed002's Note - Please RTFPs. Shelvy has been called back. Aquilani won't be - he will stay with Milan subject to the number of games played and join them, or be sold elsewhere.}

Now then fellow reds, i think a song for our number 9 is in order lets get that big man rocking...

To the tune of oh carol (chuck berry)

OOOOOOOOH Carroll
Wont you please score for me

Your our number nine,
You big f*****g hard geordie,

Ooooooooh Carroll,
Your in our red hearts to stay,

So just need a last verse boys then lets rip the KOPs roof off with this and get the beast scoring

Oh Jack, your song is pretty bad.
If you think the kop would sing it.
You must be ffing mad.
I hope your not offended
but this need to be said
you are a lousy songwriter,

ACL is the least of injurys a player would like to face. I just hope Lucas 'll be the same player when he returns, who knows how he might have done if he is not injured with the rate he is developing & his reputation growing. Certainly not the right time for such an injury.
Players who faces these kind of Injury's usually don't make happy returns from it, some takes lots of time to become the player he was before & some didn't make it all.

Absolutely GUTTED.
Lucas YNWA! Come back Stronger!

Nothing like a little optimism before 5Oclock

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

If Lucas can shrug off the abuse of 70% of his own fans and numerous pundits for over two seasons, and still give 110% for the club, then he can come back after this.

He never quits, he's not injury prone, and he's as tough as old boots mentally and physically- AND he's 24.
He'll be back!

Armando,I play rugby mare for a quite good team and I've had both my knees operated on my left was an acl which was completely reconstructed 24 months.The right knee I tore my meniscus when I was 18 years old.I'm back playing week in week out.
There's never a good time for an injury like that.He'll be fine

absolutely gutted for Lucas, been nothing short of amazing this season along with last. i've always supported him right from day one, even when all and sundry were slagging him off, not good enough for liverpool etc.

hell i was even having arguments(big ones) with my own family (massive lfc fans the lot!) as i could see he had the ability, which he has shown these last 2-3 seasons.

having suffered from an ACL injury myself (which made me pack in footy) i know the pain and suffering he must be going through.

my thoughts, prayers and best wishes on a speedy and successful recovery are with you Lucas. look forward to seeing you in a red warrior jersey next season...YNWA

as for what to do in the meantime, well we have spearo, Hendo, adam, gerrard (when fit), jonjo and poss maxi as recognised centre midfielders.

i think Jay will probably get first dibs these next few games, as he did well last season towards the end when stevie was out. he'll do ok but if i had to choose from what we have available (excluding SG) i'd say give it to hendo.

the lad has proved that he is adaptable playing RM and AM, has a great engine plus skill in abundance, i see no reason why he couldn't be disciplined enough to play the DM role.

he's already said he prefers the CM role therefore he just needs a slight tweak in his positional radar. the big plus for me would be the passing range he would bring to the table, as shown in the 1st goal the other night, lovely weighted pass to bellers. i believe he'd do really well there. and as shown by our very own Lucas, it can be done.

after the last 3 games, even though he played on tues and did OK, i still wouldn't start with AC. i prefer the fast fluid movement of maxi and bellamy, which has worked really well the last 2 chelski games.

my team for fulham would be:

pepe;
johnson agger skrtl enrique;
kuyt hendo adam maxi;
suarez bellamy

this team can go 4-4-2,
4-2-3-1 (kuyt right, bellers left, maxi AM)
or 4-3-3 (kuyt rwf, bellers lwf) whenever needed

looking slighty ahead, if there's a chance to buy anyone then my choice for DM would be:

Javi Martinez
Ever Banega

both supremely gifted players with the ability to tackle and pick a pass. won't come cheap (espc Javi) but both young fitting in with the FSG policy and i believe can make a massive difference.

tough luck once again to Lucas, here's to coming back stronger, fitter, faster, better

Sinner21

I forgot about banega actually...he would be a good signing

01 Dec 2011 16:05:37
hey lfc fans

i for one..am extremely gutted about lucas...he really was my favourite player with the amount of tackles he makes and how he hassles any player in his path to protect the back 4

i know we have other cm............but i think this is a major major blow........purely cos he is the number 1 def midfielder and not forgetting excellent at passing......

thats a huge workload taken away from cm..and i cant see adams filling that..or anyone else ..both adam and lucas played well cos one did more than the other in certain aspects.

and hes really comfortable with the ball to spray around.

seriously guys......and eds....do u think a player we have can take that particular role lucas plays? or would u believe that a DM must be bought

Another DM is not needed. Spearing has been excellent when called upon and one only has to remember his performance last year against City when he out-muscled their entire midfield. Kenny will let him develop which is the right way for players to progress

01 Dec 2011 15:51:43
With Lucas out, Hendo will probably switch to CM with Spearo to cover which means we may see more of Maxi and Bellars on the wings...that's not too bad. Gutted for Lucas though

SingRed

01 Dec 2011 15:48:48
Gutted to hear about Lucas. But lets look at the positives, it gives spearing, henderson, shelvey and maybe coady an opportunity they would not of had. You never know, 6 months in the first team for any of these players might bring out the best in them and they might become even better than lucas.
We were all gutted when gerrard was out for so long but it gave Lucas and Adam the opportunity to impress and now I would put gerrard behind both of them in the pecking order.
If it wasn't for injurys and loss of form Kelly would never of made the impact he did.
Injurys are obviously gutting but gives us the opportunity to unearth our next generation of superstars.
Lucas was never going to get dropped so them other players would never have got this kind of opportunity in the team.

01 Dec 2011 15:39:39
Ed- what are the rules/club policy regarding rehabilitation- I'm just thinking that the sunshine and warmth of Brazil will be better for Lucas' recovery than the cold and possibly icy weather in NW England. Just a thought- then when he is ready for physio/treatment to strengthen the knee he can come back. What dya think? {Ed002's Note - There will not be rules or policy. Many clubs use a clinic in Colorado to have such operations performed and there are specialist places for rehabilitation. The best know is in Arizona. He may well take some time in his homeland but then the club will want him back to oversee his recovery.}

I think a lot of teams use Dr Richard Steadman to perform such operations. Lucas may get some time in Brazil immediately after the operation.

RedSG {Ed002's Note - That was who I was referring to, the "Butcher of Vail".}

I was just reading about some of the footballers who have suffered this injury - Van Nistelrooy, Gazza, Roy Keane, Luis Garcia and Michael Owen. Also Brian Clough had his playing career cut short, though that was back in the 50's when Bob The Red was a Teddy Boy !

Another supporter who is gutted about Lucas being out for the rest of the year- Just pray and hope that he comes back as good- my fear is that a lot of players have come back from serious injuries such as this and not shown the same form. Anyway we should not panic and go out and buy as we have some youngsters we can try for tthe rest of December and if they are not up it we can look to fill that position in January.

SingRed {Ed002's Note - Let's assume not before worrying people without cause.}

To try and be a little bit philosophical about it SingRed, it sort of comes with the territory mate. There's not many central midfielders of Lucas' ilk go through their careers without picking up war wounds. He'll maybe have to adapt his game a touch when he returns. Not go charging in as much. Though the incident at Chelsea was pretty innocuous really. Shame for the lad.

Hi Ed's and all was wondering with the sad news of the injury to Lucas and being out for rest of the campaign do you think this will prompt us into making a purchasing in January for for the likes of Moussa Sissoko? I am deeply upset as many fellow reds are at the moment because Lucas has been nothing short of fantastic and deserves all the praise he is getting. Lucas along with Suarez and Reina are the first names on the team sheet and the spine of our team.

LFC4LIFE {Ed002's Note - THis has been addressed in detail already - please read the other posts.}

Okay..... Ed002

To fellow Red's whats are your views on the situation, do you feel we can cover with the players we have available in our squad until the end of the season? or would you like someone to be bought in to give us a fighting chance of securing that coveted top 4 spot and if so who with a realistic view would you like to see bought in?

LFC4LIFE

Give Spearing a go.But hes going to have to be more astute tacically when defending.Got to stay switched on.Lucas had become a good reader of the game.That tends not to develop overnight and thats my worry.Lucas now missing v City x2 games,when bossed park v them,concerns me to.Ed do you think Lfc will work on shape,using current squad,or buy in Jan?Mr.Whinge {Ed002's Note - You really need to read the earlier posts.}

Spearing can be deployed there until January. just seen the fixture list for December & beginning of January...

Mon 5th Dec Fulham vs Liverpool
Sat 10th Dec Liverpool vs QPR
Sun 18th Dec Aston Villa vs Liverpool
Wed 21st Dec Wigan vs Liverpool
Mon 26th Dec Liverpool vs Blackburn
Fri 30th Dec Liverpool vs Newcastle
Tue 3rd Jan Man City vs Liverpool

I feel we can first of all win all of December's fixture, although I see possibly Newcastle and Aston Villa posing a challenge and the Man City match I would be happy with an away draw.

6 games between now and the transfer window opening. 18 points up for grabs. then we will need to be prepared to spend big to get someone that can just walk into the side and pick up from where lucas left off. till then lets just hope Suarez stays fit.

I can't beleive you said that .

The LFC team is bigger than 1 player , the squad will cope without a mega '1st name on the teamsheet' signing .

Look for Spearing to be making a name for himself and Henderson stepping up his LFC career .

Steven Gerrard may be back in January and ready to play more under Kenny Dalglish .

Trust in the squad , believe in the players & respect 'Kenny the Master' .

All will be well in due course , this is only our first setback of the season - show some courage .

Hi Eds, It's now confirmed that Lucas will miss the rest of the season. Its a big blow for liverpools midfield, do you think Liverpool will look for anyone to replace lucas in january? who? {Ed002's Note - Please read the other posts. This has already been addressed.}

01 Dec 2011 15:13:07
Hello Eds,
you were right. Lucas is out for the rest of the season. What a blow!!!With Gerrard out I guess that LFC will have to buy another midfielder in January.....Let's hope it'll be someone outstanding.
greetings

I disagree with you mate, I really don't think we should buy another midfielder. If things don't go to plan then maybe, but who will be available in January?

I know Lucas is the 'defensive midfielder' in the team, but I believe a midfielder should be able to break up play and get forward, which he has shown he can also do, spraying passes across the park Alonso-esque. We have some great players in our squad who could partner Adam in the centre of the field. Spearing, Shelvey, Henderson. At a push, maybe try Coady but with him still being young I think it'll be doubtful. I would like to suggest Suso too, but as much as the kid has talent, I don't think he's physically strong enough for the premier league yet.

I say give some of the younger lads a chance to break through before making hasty decisions that'll slow their development.

Thanks,
Chris

Then what's happens next season when Lucas is fit and we have too many midfielders!?

My thoughts go to Lucas, the guy has worked so hard at his game always giving everything, puts his body on the line every game - so I say thank you Lucas and hope you get well soon.

Mate leave it out. It maked perfect sense to play Lucas v Chelsea he's incredibly fit and is probably the only senior midfielder who could've hacked it straight after the effort v city. Injuries are totally sporadic, doesn't matter which competition its in.

We were in good shape. lucas provided the platform for everyone else to play. who is going to do that now. spearing. shelvey. 18 points till the window. thank god they are against weaker sides. lets just hope we can start picking up picking up wins against them. thats been our problem all season.

After we had got the second goal it may have been wise to take Lucas off...but hindsight is a wonderful thing

And if we hadve got beat,yould have wanted Lucas playing

We played him because unlike the mancs and arsenal we want to win the league cup you major herbet.

Ed's, one midfielder who hasn't been mentioned and I think would do an excellent job not only as cover but to strengthen the team is the midfielder from Valencia Ever Banega, we were linked with him also what about a punt for David bentley right mid and a decent cross might realise his own belief and work hard under Kenny. Anyway just a thought.

Andy R

Lucas out for the season what a nightmare,
but what a great opportunity for sombody else to step up to the mark with gerrard also being out for god knows how long.
Im so dissapointed for lucas he was realy becoming a monster.
step up jonjo,spearing and henderson, i think if these players dont bring it during december we will go for a player on loan come january, mayde lassana diarra from real madrid or maybe try a cheeky bid for Benega, he should be back from his knee injury mid december, hes a great player potentially but he was getting a lot of game time with valencia before his injury so he may not even be interested in coming.
I do think kenny will give hendo spearing and jonjo a decent chance of making an impact before rushing in though, this is the reason for bringing back jonjo.
In kenny we trust, im certain kenny and commoli they will get it right and hopefully gerrard will be back before january, how long can an ankle infection take to heal FFS.

Some thoughts on the 'Lucas role'.

This is a great opportunity for some of our players to show us what they have to offer.

Spearing now has a great opportunity (if the Lucas injury is as bad as feared) to show us if he is good enough. He, like Lucas has revelled in proving the doubters wrong so far.

It is concerning however, that were Spearing to be injured/suspended there is no obvious replacement for him in the squad atm.

I haven't seen enough of Coady to know if he's good enough to play in a DM role -but based on comments about him, and the few games I have seen him play in - he certainly has the potential to be a contender there. He must be the frontrunner for backup to Spearing atm.

I would rather have Spearing on the pitch and Coady on the bench - rather than just throw money at the problem - as some are suggesting.

I don't see the point in splashing out big bucks on a position that Lucas has made his own.

Spearing is already a good player - and has the potential to shine in the weeks ahead - and a new DM signing would effectively end his LFC career, or at least diminish his chances of ever breaking into the side.

I'd imagine he wouldn't fancy being moved further down the pecking order at this stage in his career - In all fairness he has done very little wrong when given the chance to play, and turning in some excellent performances. He also shows fire in the games against lesser teams, I recall him lifting our team and fans with some crunching tackles v Fulham last year.

He treats so-called 'lesser' opposition with respect and gives his all, which is to be admired. He is also a tidy and competent player on the ball and has a great physical presence for such a small guy. He's a little pitbull, a bit like Edgar Davids.

My other concern is that a new signing could eliminate the chance to blood Coady over the next few months. He certainly looked a good player on the pre-season tour.

Finally - dump any ideas of Gerrard, Adam or Shelvey playing the 'Lucas role' - quite simply NO.

I also had to laugh at the idea of Meireles playing in DM as some are suggesting.... some people really don't have a clue! I've noticed it's usually these types who want to throw money at every dilemma.

In my opinion - any ideas of Carra, Coates or Agger as options in DM are also (like bringing up former players) counter-productive.

They are doing a good job in their proper positions. leave them be.

All in all - It's Spearing and Coady for me.

Last year saw good breakout performances from the likes of Kelly, Flanagan, Robinson and Spearing - The Lucas injury could prove a great opportunity for Coady to get some minutes.

And although I have some reservations about his defensive game, I see Henderson as the next most likely candidate (behind Spearing - and competing with Coady) to be given a chance in the Lucas role if injuries/suspensions force Kenny's hand.

Of our other CM's (Shelvey, Gerrard, Adam) - Henderson would seem the best candidate to play as a DM - but as anyone who saw him attempt to play this role for England U21's this summer will testify, he has no proven track record as a DM.

The main reason I do not completely discount the chance that he could play there however, is that in his defence - he was in a Stuart Pearce team - and was hardly encouraged to play the ball on the deck. He has a good engine and is a competent ball player.

I feel however (as I'm sure many will agree) that he does his best work going forward. In this case I see Henderson as a stopgap solution at DM. But his presence (and the possibilty that he could shine in the role if given the chance) certainly lessens the need to panic buy another DM.

Any injury/suspension to Spearing and I reckon it'll be Coady and Henderson competing for a chance to impress.

The season has been very good so far. The entire squad is contributing. I hope Lucas gets well soon.

We have stood toe to toe with, and matched the supposed 'big' sides, such as Chelsea, Man City, Utd and Arsenal - and we can still improve!

(I haven't forgotten Spurs btw - but that was a sick game though, a real one-off. Everything that could go wrong did!)

All is good though. What a difference a year makes. We must improve against the 'lesser' teams. I have faith we can.

I also have faith in the players we have.

If Lucas is out for a few months, watch this space for the 'Spearing for England' camp before the season is out.

And before you say I'm mental.

We now live in a World where Lucas is being touted as one of, if not THE BEST DM on the planet. A World where an injury to him has prompted fear and panic (and lengthy posts such as mine to be composed on the subject of the 'Lucas Role'.

Now THATS mental eh!

I also look forward to seeing what Coady can do in the PL, I hope we can blood him slowly (not in the Rambo sense. You know what I mean. lol) - from the reports I read about him, and based on the few games I've seen - he can be the next academy starlet to break through. The Lucas injury will accelerate this process of transition to the First team.

BJH YNWA (a long post I know. Sorry about that - but the 'Lucas role' deserves no less!)

SOME thoughts? Its bloody War and Peace mate?

If gerrard was fit their is no doubt in my mind he would be playing the dm role, its not that long ago the was also classed as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world along with keane and viera, only under rafa did he move further upfield.

Can anyone recall the team Kenny put out this season when Lucas was suspended?
RNRed

Its was Reina, Johnson, Carra, Skrtel, Enrique, Downing, Adam, Gerrard, Bellamy, Suarez, Kuyt Subs: Henderson, Doni, Maxi, Carroll, Spearing, Agger, Flanno

Downing, Bellamy, Kuyt all subbed for Henderson, Carroll and Agger.

It was 1-1 against Norwich at home - which says it all!

NS

It was against Norwich at Anfield:
Reina
Johnson
Carra
Skirtel
Enrique

Downing
Adam
Gerrard
Bellamy

Suarez
Kuyt

Whilst Lucas may be out for some time, we have plenty of options to cover his absence. Depending on the system whether a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3/4-5-1 we have options.

Gerrard (when fit), Adam, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, Coady are all options we still have available, and at a push Suso could be brought in. I don't think a new signing is needed.

just a word for all the lucas bashers who up until a few weeks ago were still slating him , he has been the main man in our team for nearly 2 years , the covering , the tackles , and hes still getting better when he needs to go into forward play , sometimes i wonder if some fans really know anything about team-play and how important his position for the team is , hope hes not out too long , will be our captain after stevie steps down , enough said............lfc

Reina will, enough said...

STOP!
will all these posters stop slagging off supporters who gave Lucas stick over the last 3-4 years. When he first came to us he wasn't good enough, needed time to adapt and get up to speed with EPL. Then he got more game time the next couple of years and simply wasn't good enough. He was slow, didn't move the ball quick enough and gave away too many fouls.
Last season he got better, but not great, just better than he had been. He was voted our player of the year but meireles(spelling) was voted supporters player of the year after having about 6 good games, enough said on the validity of these awards.
This season he has got better again, for me now at a standard that is acceptable for Liverpool but to say that some supporters knew he would come good and we should trust the manager is ridiculous.
I am one of those supporters that wouldn't of had Lucas in our team over the last few years as I can't remember a player for us that has started poorly and got better, remember Cisse, Kewell, Smicer etc may of had some good games but not good enough for Liverpool FC.
I now agree Lucas deserves a place in our team but by no means is he best in world in that position as some are saying would swap him for Scott Parker

Finisher

Who's some people,your mates down the pub maybe. Their's no way in a million the majority and vast one at that would swap a 24 year old constantly improving Lucas for a player on the wrong side of 30 as good a player Scott Parker is. Lucas is made for Liverpool and vice versa.
Jonson.

What utter rubbish johnson, loads went for parker on here not so long ago

The problem is Finisher he was only 19 so how can 'fans' slag off someone young, talented and developing (how would it help?).... if he didn't have the mental strength and determination to prove his worth his confidence could have been shattered, frankly the stick he got was appalling. He was purely a scapegoat for the inadequacies of the team... he could so easily have been sold to Lazio, etc and we'd have lost an excellent player.

Also... last year in an awful team he was our best player, and the year before (Rafa's last year) he was good as well, far better than the more experienced Mascherano.

Personally, I believe if you can give stick to one of our own you deserve more than"I told you so!"

Richards

The "some people" are on here saying that Lucas is best in world. My "mates in the pub" as you say are football educated fans who, like myself, have followed Liverpool all their lives home and away for 35-45 years each so I think they are entitled to passing judgement on Lucas' ability. We could have got 4 good years out of someone like Scott Parker which would of given us a better chance of the league than Lucas. We have had to put up with poor performances by him over the years and are only just benefitting from it over the last few months.
So before you come on with an attitude, cos you post quite often, think about what you say and respect other supporters opinions cos you're not always right
Finisher

Well if they did go for Parker, that says something about the short-termism of fans these days. Agree 100% with jonson there. Parker is very good, yes. But a 24 year old Lucas is preferable mate. No problem.
The Real KB

Utter rubbish my arse. A few might have mentioned he would've been a good signing,Parker that is but not at the expense of Lucas. I'd say most fan's have appreciated what Lucas has done for us in the last season and a half. Top of the tackling charts last season and same this until his unfortunate injury. Lucas all day over Parker. Their must be a reason why old Scotty has had so many clubs at the tender age of 30.
Jonson.

Parker although a good player has maybe two years left in him,where as, lucas at 24 is in my own opinion just as effective as parker, if not better, you would have to be an absolute person to take parker over lucas,and why is johnson talkin rubbish hes given his opinion wich most LFC supporters would go along with...

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

HONESTY/FINISHER
iv heard its a virtue, well il be honest i did not rate lucas he seemed to get booked every game and did not know how to tackle surely you lot can remember that?
he is now playing like a class midfielder but he is injured and we must move on gerrard has been injured for almost a year and we are coping ok some people seem to have forgotten steven, bob paisleys skids

Richards
I accept his age was an issue mate, but you need to accept he has only been at an acceptable LFC level this season. Also I would never and have never slagged any of our players in public only in discussions after matches like we all do. My kids have been brought up not to boo or slag our players aswell so I'm not a player basher like others on here, I just like to give honest British as and when needed
Finisher

Sorry the end of that post should of said "honest criticism as and when needed" NOT British (don't want to sound like John Terry"
Finisher

Finisher, your entitled to your opinion and I'll always read the thoughts of those that are well put across but... he has not only been an acceptable standard this season. He has been excellent since Daglish returned and was our most consistent player before that. Ok, he will never grab the headlines with goals but his role was vital. Do you remember his performance at Old Trafford when we hammered them under Rafa? His form is not a new phenomena... he has consistently improved season on season, I just hope this injury doesn't ruin that progress.

2 cents on Parker, rejuvinated under Redknapp but would have only been a stop gap solution to a problem that didn't exist! I'd take Lucas, Gerrard, and the potential of some younger players who will be our future.

Does anyone else agree that not only having Shelvey back is a good thing,albeit in sham circumstances? Also is it me or does he,watching highlights of Blackpool he seem's to have picked up a lot of Gerrard's manerism's in the way he play's? The sharp turn's bringing it back onto his right foot,the late runs into the box and even the way he strikes a ball is Gerrard like,not quite but I think he'll turn into one hell of a player.
Jonson.

When he played for Liverpool, I always
thought he was very poor. One think playing
well in championship another being part of
a side going for top 4 finish. The lad just wont make the grade, neither Spearing.

I dont think he's copying though. he's a natural.

Hes only a kid, give him a chance

The Dark Knight

Deffo agree, Shelvey will be a future senior England squad player.

I really don't think you can make a real judgment on weather a player will make it with a few cameo's at the age of 19. I thought he got better as he got a a bit more game time. Re his form at Blackpool,their aren't many player's his age if any doing or was doing in the Championship. He's defo one for the future in my opinion. And how come when you mention Shelvey, Spearing's name is always thrown in when their's quite a big difference,in footballing terms anyhow, age wise and also their completely different type's of midfielder's. To the second person who replied,i agree he's a very gifted footballer but he'd be daft not to be influenced of a player of Gerrard's class and in my opinion its showing as i've said in the way he play's the game.
Jonson.

There is no doubt Shelvey is good. Personally I reckon he will make the grade and will be a big player. However I would caution against over-rating his performances in the Championship. To be brutally frank, a player that is only capable of being a squad player in the Prem top flight is 5 star down in the Championship. I would expect Shelvey to be very very good week-in, week-out at that level at the very least. And all that would show is he would probably be a competent squad player at our level. But I do believe he will make the grade. RED LENIN

Hi all, just a comment on henderson.

I think a lot of people are forgetting about the bloke; his personality, determination and potential.

To be honest, i think he needs to take a little more risks in play but he will get there. Even himself is aware of that.

Every single interview he does he emphasis the privilege to play at LFC and happy to play anywhere for the club, he doesn't complain whilst at RM and is obviously working and training hard. He respects the club and its supporters (even if some don't respect him)

I can't wait to see him in two or three years, dominating the midfield with Lucas.

Cheers

p.s - get well Lucas.

01 Dec 2011 12:27:49
This is all opinion and theory rather than rumour...

I feel that in Jan we need 3 players:

CDM- if Lucas' injury is as serious as I expect it to be, leaving him out for 3-6months, we need to sign someone who can play a similar role to him. Yes, we have Shelvey back which I am very pleased about, but he is more CAM.

ST- Suarez, superb, but he is not what I would call an out and out striker. Suarez is a support striker, someone who creates chances. An out and out striker is someone with that lethal instinct, a natural finisher. The difference between Suarez and Torres is that Suarez works hard, creates chances for others however, he is not a natural finisher. Torres on the other hand, does not work anywhere near as hard but he has (or had!) that lethal instinct. He is a natural finisher. This is what Andy Carroll should be... but isn't...

RW- A player who can light a game up with skills, trickery and flair. Similar to Suarez in a way but more of a wide player than a central player. A player who, when receiving the ball, the fans just think 'YES'. Because they know that when this player gets the ball, he will run at defenders, down the wing, cut inside and he will beat them and produce a delivery for another player or go on to score himself- a Ronaldo'esq player.

Whether we get these players in Jan or the Summer, I'm not sure but I do think that if we had these 3 world class players I described, we would be a complete team.

SMC

CDM - Sissoko, RW - Boudebouz - Striker ?? I cannot see any real top striking talent that can be bought in Jan. Kenny may wait till the summer. There is no point in spending on a mediocre player when a decent one comes available in the summer. Bellamy and Suarez can fire us into the top 4, hopefully Maxi, Johnson, Kuyt etc will add to the goals and then there's always the possibility that Gerrard will come back firing or at least put chances on a plate for the strikers.

01 Dec 2011 12:25:08
Is it true that Steve Clarke was willing to go to Chelski if he was 50k more than what he is paid by LFC during the summer?

Thanks

I reckon Kenny would tell him to h*** off if he caught wind of it. Sounds like r****cks to me.

No kenny wouldn't kenny wanted 3years and not 2 plus full control over transfers, its just something to sweeten the deal if so.

So we are going to loose Lucas now, Its a massive blow to Liverpool. Lucas is as important as Reina is to the team, as important as Suarez to the team. I watch football around the Globe a lot & have to say we can count Lucas among the best DM's in the world at the moment, certainly the best in EPL.

I don't think there is a certain player at the club who can replace Lucas, but a fully fit Stevie Gerrard injured can do a fine Job other than that we need to play a 3 man midfield other wise we 'll be very vulnerable. Adam & Hendo + Spearing/Shelvy/Coady/ when Stevie returns he himself.
Seeen some people suggesting we should try one of our CB as a DM, from what I have seen only AGger is capable of such a Job. Though I would prefer not try it. Leave the CB's where they belong, they are doing now a fine job & lets allow them to do it.

A month till January, something tells me we 'll sign around three players. A striker, a winger & another CM.

So we got Citeh in the Carling Semi's, we all knew it was coming as if UTD made it they would certainly get the easy way, I have my doubts over how these draws are taken. If we can Beat Citeh then It's half the Job done but it won't be easy. The key will be to get away goals & finish them off at Anfield. I can't wait to see Liverpool in Wembly, Kenny & the team lifting the trophy. It 'll give hell lot of confidence, a starting point for the many Glory's to come in the future.

NExt is Fulham, Maxi should be in the starting XI he is such a gifted clever player certainly knows where the net is unlike some newbies at the club. My XI will be Pepe, Glen, Skrts, Agger, Enrique, Hendo, Spearing, Adam, Maxi, Bellars & Suarez. 4-3-3. Kenny needs to stick with a team like this, the recent results certainly tell all of us something.

"On the march with Kenny's Army"

Favourite Lucas moment fellas?

Mine was him winning the 100th minute penalty at the Arsenal last year, not just the winning of the penalty it was the way he jumped up and pumped his fist - really passionate and competitive. Dirk sticking the goal away helped as well.

Grand player is our Lucas - speedy recovery fella.

Joff

I agree with that but remember this was the guy described as Rafa's love child. Consider that folks when you have a go at Carroll. The Manager knows best. If a player is not fit he will go.

Last year when Lucas is when he scored last year in the Europa i think and he smashed one from outside the box. Then the camera focused on stevie in the box and he was on his feet with joy for him.

BUT best memory now is Lucas continuing to run down players and smashing in and stealing ball. Countless times, against arsenal early in year, Yaya on weekend, and Torres on tuesday.

get well Lucas.

Hi Ed's, No rumour as such more to see if there was an update on Lucas's injury as there is nothing on LFC website other than Shelvey being recalled from loan and I can't see that Macca has published anything yet. There are rumours flying around that he is out for the season? Do you have any clue to the injury he picked up or the length of time he'll be out? He will be a bigger loss than I think some people will realise. Cheers in advance. Gouldy {Ed002's Note - Just wait for the club to say something.}

Ok mate thanks.

Hope we give the midfield role to Henderson now Lucas is out, forget buying more players for this position in jan we have a £16mill player crying out to play were he made his name, so an extended run in the team will bring the kid on a bundle. We have got to get away from this throwing more money at a problem and give exsisting players there chance. P.S. if the lad does come in then don't be on his case slagging him off after every game if he doesn't set up 3 goals/score or dosn't get some daft opta stats of tackles completed/miles ran during a game.

Waro

Spearing or Henderson. Happy with either. I hope the doubters can now see the value of signing a young, keen, versatile player in Hendo. The lad has come out and said he's happy to play anywhere that he's picked. I really like him, think he'll be very good for us.

He is probably the only person other than Meireless that I wouldn't want to replace Lucas.

Totally pointless comment JRG. He plays for somebody else now so people should focus on the players we have not the ones we don't!! For the record he was a complete sh**house in the tackle, looked the part with the tats and hair but tackled like an 11 year old girl holding a my little pony!

'Waro'

It was joke post mate at the expense of all those fans who came on here earlier in the season and said we shouldn't have sold Meireless whenever we had an injury.

I am fully aware of his short-comings and I have no problem with him being sold, as I said in my above post he would be the second last person I would want to replace Lucas. Next time I will make the lol at the end of my post bigger so there is no misunderstanding!

Good at taking free kicks on Fifa 11, scored a couple of belter's with him. Real life,i'd take a punt if he cost around 6 to 8 million tops,then again it ain't my coin. A new club could be just what he needs.
Jonson. {Ed002's Note - Fulham, Everton, Fenerbahce and Wolfsburg are possible destinations for Gignac in January. Financially Fenerbahce would be his best option.}

Ed002 is that for him you mean finance wise with a move to Turkey? And are Prem club's really on their arse that much,that clubs you mentioned i mean,not put a financial package together that betters Galatasaray or are they Gala just minted? Thanks.

Do u think that Signing of a New Centre back probably Gary Cahill will stop the progression of Coates. He rarely gets the chance with Agger, Skrtel and Carra ahead of him. Assuming that Carra will be retiring at the end of Next season, Coates will be ready for First team action.
INDIAN RED {Ed002's Note - I don't see Gary Gahill at Liverpool this winter I am afraid. I am also not sure the club need or will look for a centre back with Skrtel, Agger, Coates, Carragher, Kelly and Wilson already looking to play.}

i know i'm going to get bashed for this but i am starting to fill sorry for Torres. its such a shame to see a player of his quality go this way. i feel sorry for the lad playing in a team that jjust dont help. i know alot of people will say justice but sometimes its good to see players at their best regardless of who they play for. ex, everyone loves to see messi play!
cheers j

I don't delight in his present struggles but it was his choice to leave, j mate.
When he was wandering around on the pitch for us, being disinterested..he made it plain that he wanted out. He was disrespectful to Kenny Dalglish as well. It's up to him to sort it out now.
The Real KB

Real KB - I think we all agree that towards the end of Torres' career at Liverpool he wandered around the pitch looking disinterested, putting in little or no effort. We all thought in January that his form was down to him wanting out of the club as soon as Chelsea come in for him.

However, when you look at his form for Chelsea is it any different to when he left us? I am beginning to believe that he wasn't sulking during the last few weeks and months at Liverpool but it was the beginning of the end for him. To me it seems he has lost all of his confidence and that burst of pace last summer and he hasn't got it back.

You are spot-on with the way he disrespected Kenny though - and the ironic thing is that Kenny would be the ideal manager to build his confidence up again and get him playing back to his old standard.

JRG

I know mate. He got his wish to play Champions League football, well, occasionally anyway.
In hindsight, you have to think he'd have been better off partnering Suarez. But he left, end of.
The Real KB

I personally believe that the injuries he had season before last have taken their toll. There was a theory (although how credible I don't know) that his knees are not as strong as they once were due to the ground being harder in England than it is in Spain. Either way, I think he may have lost confidence in his body more than anything else.

Ash

To be very candid, there are times when I imagine how deadly a combo of Suarez & Torres would have been....

Let's be very sincere with ourselves, in his own time, Torres was a god. I just cant say about now. In my heart, Torres will always be 'El Nino'. That was he was, that is what he still is (form or no form) and that's was he will always be for me.

I watch him play for Chelsea and I think: "OMG! I wish this guy would just regain his confidence and win himself some applause" I'm quite sure he would have done that under KK if he had given himself the time he needed, just like Andy is currently doing.

Anyways, rather than slate him, I'd rather wish him and Meireles a good time ahead, against other teams. But against Liverpool, well I can only wish them a hell of a tough time.

O'seunfunmi (Anfield Red)

He chose money over us, i dont feel sorry for him 1 bit.

Adzii

'O'seunfunmi'

I would say Suarez with a Torres from 2 or 3 years ago would be mouth watering but would anyone seriously pay good money for him now? I know I wouldn't. The other night he looked like a youth player who had been promoted to the senior side but looked totally out of his depth.

Your views of Torres and Miereless do you credit, personally and I am loving seeing them and their team struggle especially Torres for the way he left us.

JRG

ADZIL
agreed lad, people really do have short memories he is a self centered sulking child and kenny done well to get shut off him, at the end he was depressing to watch and an insult to the liverpool way, bob paisleys skids

He made his bed, it's him who has to now sleep in it.
He seems to have lost intrest in the game fullstop. Very worrying for Chelsea.
Liverpool can look back and say it was a very good transfer. 50m or 15m plus andy Carroll however you look at it it's the best bit of business I have ever seen. Torres on current form can't be worth more than 10m

RIGHT WING - henderson is good but hes naturally a centre midfielder adam johnson is the top target in this position for kenny he'll have to pay 15m and johnson may leave in january to get some form together aswell as game time in order to push for capellos euro 2012 squad and wages could also factor into this so kenny may switch his attention to junior hoilett as hes younger and also the better option i.e wages will be much lower as will the transfer fee could be half as much as johnson a fee around 9m should see him leave
CENTRE BACK - gary cahilll will be first option as his contract is set to expire in the summer and playing for a bigger club could see him be in capellos squad as a natural leader and a quality centre back he will be kennys top target to add depth to the defence also add a bit more quality as skertl and agger seem pretty solid just now but agger has had trouble in the past with injures we also have 2 young centrebacks who are looking pretty good and kenny will give thm there chance as and when he thinks there ready

Rubbish

The Fact Adam Johnson has just signed a new contract which would only increase the price they would demand for him, I think your chatting out of your @ Hole!

Rushie's Tash

If Gary Cahill goes anywhere it will be Arsenal not Liverpool. I will put my house on him not coming to Liverpool!

Steve {Ed002's Note - There is a good chance he will go to Chelsea.}

Ridiculous. Johnson just signed a new contract at city. And with the form of Maxi at the moment, and a player of Downing's stature also in contention, why would we need Johnson?

Cahill? Are you mad? Some of his positional play is awful, it's remarkable he gets a game for England. He is only highly rated because he scores, which as a defender, is a secondary attribute. Rather have a top defender that seldom scores - ie. Carra.

We have two bright, young stars in Wilson and Coates waiting in the wings, Coates was fantastic vs Chelsea minus the penalty that should've been. On top of having Carra, an indisputable legend, Agger, top top defender when fit, and Skrtel, a meat head.

Kelly can also play CB too. Heck, I'm sure Jay Spearing would play CB just to get on the teamsheet.

Agger and Skrtel both can score goals so it's like having Cahill already, but just better defenders.

Don't need a CB either. Chelsea and Arsenal do though. He is Chelsea bound, they need him. Alex was woeful against us, and Luiz looks less and less like a defender every time I see him play. He is an attacking player. Terry is getting old, and who else do they have? But for Arsenal, I think they have enough depth and quality at the back.

So I woke up this morning (here in singapore) and I read man u 1 palace 2.

Then I read on and saw that we drew citeh for the semis.

It was bound to happen, wasn't it?

But i'm happy we have the 2nd leg at anfield.

It'll be a good test of our progress as a team.

And anyway, if we wana win anything, we hafta be prepared to beat everybody, right?:-)

Oh ya, also read that we've recalled shelvey. Welcome home jonjo!

Good to have him back as cover for CM and I think it's a great chance for jonjo ane spearing to prove themselves.:-)

Mate we r in trouble. Lucas was one of our best players. If he is out for 6 months, we need to bring in someone like sissoko asap. As good a player as shelvey is, he is no dm.
Indian Buzzer

Oh kmon indian buzzer we have enough depth!
kk will sort it out {Ed002's Note - Sissoko is no DM player either.}

If we bring in a player in January, will he/she
be cup tied anyway? Or could they
play in the semi final?

Guy is probably talking of Mohammed - which would be a huge mistake!

Drigan

We've got Jay Spearing at DM lest you forget?

Give him a shot in Lucas' absence!

I believe sissoko can play dm if required. N plus we will have to sign an extra midfielder anyways once we qualify for europe, so why not do the shopping in jan itself?
Indian Buzzer

Moussa sissoko might not be a dm dut he did start out playing as a defensive midfielder and still covers there when needed.He could be fill in for lucas easily before reverting to his natural position when lucas recovers and even as a defensive midfielder he would be sure to break forward more than lucas and would add to forward play

cant agree more, he is only 22 any when he finds form he will be a beast, unplayable! have quite a few newcasle mates who are fans who were gutted to see him go. they have all said just wait and see what he can do!
i love lucas and have backed him from day one and i could see what he had to offer. i believe andy is very similar and i think when him and suarez can start to compliment each other we are on to something very special!
ok i no jack sh but even if im wrong get behind the big man

billynwa

Lucas is very fortunate to have had managers keep the faith with him, it took him three years to become the player he is, Andy Carol was bought into the club to score goals, yet at the moment cannot trap a football. I think Capelo maybe rightwhen he says he has a poor lifestyle. He should be fit and strong as an ox but i fail to see anything in his ability thus far. He is not getting the time on the pitch because he is not producing the goods. He's now been at our club close to twelve months and has had maybe three moments of GOODness and shows no enthusiasm of wanting GREATness.

nar mate no way could you see lucas playing like he has this season 3 or 4 seasons ago not even our lord could of seen that, bob paisleys skids

At Newcastle he was strong, good finisher and dominated CD's. Now he seems to have no touch and spends half the game on the ground. He doesnt look any weaker or skinnier than he was at NUFC? Actually looks fitter. Mystifies me....

I'm glad we got City, in the semi final. I'd rather play them over 2 games than one.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

And come to think of it if we win then we'll have a championship side in the final

After the last match, I wish we
could play city every week. Its a
case of your got loads of money,
have some of this...

I think that with with citys commitments to the premiership there is no way they field anything like their strongest team against us over two legs, wembley here we come
