Hi Ed's and Reds

IMO as a red for 34 years..i hope the trust we all have in KK doesnt go pear shaped..cause i would hate to think what will be said on here if it does..but i still think we will be still well involved in the transfer market right up to the final hours and KK will..i hope..have us back where we deserve to be

Here we go again judging a pre season friendly.... noteable one that was played out of respect , afyr recent events. a match with six goals an adequate run out for some of the senior players and its doom and bloody gloom. aquaboy has a ten min cameo and hes stevie g in disquise. Are we not LIVERPOOL SUPPORTERS ? Bloody SUPPORT JEES some of u are acting like spoilt br

This 'Aquaman' thing is cringeworthy. Let it go. If Suarex isn't playing then Carrol needs a front partner with pace. movement and acceleration to drag the players off - he can't perform miracles with the whole of the defence on his back.

Think it's clear to see why rafa bought aquaman, real class about the player, another great cameo performance, if only he knuckled down this season I could see him being a great success this season, is it more of a case of liverpool wanting to let go a want away player rather than wanting to sell a player who wants to stay?
On football ability he could be a top player for Liverpool next season especially with gerrard's problems, he could play the attacking role in a 3 man midfield with downing and Suarez on wings an Carroll up top, Adam and Lucas with Aquilani in centre.
What do Eds think, any chance he could be convinced to stay and fight for the club? {Ed002's Note - Read the other posts please.}

Get a grip people Aquaman may be a quality player but he wants out Never showed any fight before only fighting to get out So called fans slating new signings before they've barely kicked a ball.....we are Liverpool fc We get behind our team our players our manager and our club Wake up start showing some respect......come Aug the 13th against sunderland we will be ready .....You'll Never Walk Alone

i have a question for the eds or anyone else with aqualaini presumably on his way given the info from the eds why is it no one seems too interested in him as he is obviously a gifted player and at 10m a bargain considering what we have paid for some of our signings. I cannot understand why no one is biting our hand off
stuart {Ed002's Note - AC Milan or Juventus may after the recent performances. He appeared to be certain to go on loan to Fiorentina and that is still possible.}

not a rumour but plus sides tonight johnson and reina getting game time . downing looking good , and aquaman looks like the £20 million we signed hope kk can work a bit of magic and turn this situation around and keep him , doubtful but he looks a happy player

Liverpool need a new left back, 2 center backs and a right winger. in my opinion we should go for:
Left back - Aly cissohko
Center back - Gary cahill
Center back - Mammadou sakho or Matz hummels
Right wing - Theo walcott or James milner or Andei arsahvin.
Once we have got these we can focas on getting a back up striker.

Some thoughts before I got to bed:

I hope we get a CB and LB or even a pair of CBs
before the season starts.

I can only imagine liverpool to make
a slow start to next season given all of the squad changes,
must take some time for new players to gel. It's not like bringing in one or two changes from last year. This is my real concern. I think we still have a good chance of making top 4 and I'm really looking forward to seeing a new Liverpool next season.

It does'nt MATA that we've not bought certain 'flair' spanish players - although I don't mention any specific names.

Aquaman's gone. Ciao Bello. And so should everyone else without exception who don't want to play for Liverpool.

Hope I dream about Monica Bellucci tonight.

Hi EDS Surely we must keep Aquillani, at least till jan, now that he is 100% fit he would be the player we thought we bought 2 yrs ago U say he wants to leave but selling him on the cheap will not benefit us Its not a rumour eds but given a run in the side he could be the difference, WHAT U GUYS THINK? {Ed002's Note - I think it is simply pointless dragging this out. There is no point asking the same question over and over again - the answer will not change.}

Hi guys, i know Aqualani isnt happy at Anfield but isnt there something the management can do to turn that around because everytime he comes on he seems to light up the field. Hes had a real positive impact in every game hes played and to be quite frank hes looked one of the best players on the pitch with the exception of Downing. Why oh why do we always keep the crap and sell the good guys?. While im on that subject can someone please explain to me why so many people refer to young Spearing as the new Gerrard cause to be honest i think hes another Player like Ngog, useless. On a lighter note if think if we can make just one or two more quality signings then we have a real chance of a top 4 position this year. Cant Wait. YNWA

Hey Ed who is talking to Zarate's agent in London? Spurs I bet because I hear he could be cheap {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

01 Aug 2011 22:47:31
I know this is a friendly, but aqualani a class cameo once again. Closest player we have to a gerrard type player.Johnson again shown how to defend by the teenagers, only place to accommodate him has to be right wing - better players in every other position. Downing if sticks to wing may do s good job, but need suarez/support for carroll based on todays game. Was isolated

The way I see it, if we want to or are in the process of getting rid of Aqua, then why do we keep playing him? I know he only had 10mins today, but why risk the chance of him getting injured?

If he were to get injured (unlikely I know), surely that would stop any possible move away from us in this transfer window?

10mins played today, 2 assists and 2 thunderous shots. The guy is a very gifted player who just needs to play.

The majority of us on here can all see how good he is and that he could well be an ideal replacement for Gerrard, while he is injured, playing in that free role.

As for the people suggesting he is a money grabber, well, I can't comment as I have no idea how much he is on a week, but all I can say is that if you look at all the other clubs, their best players are on top wages; given enough games, Aqua could be one of our top players to warrent the wages he gets.

Let's put the matter to bed.

You 'fans' are such hypocrites. One second you call for a guys head, the next you are singing their praises.

Okay, prior to pre-season everybody wanted Aquilani sold. Now, he has a decent display against (with respect) a nobody team and he is suddenly our "second best midfielder"?

Facts on the table.
Aquilani has no desire to play for LFC or in England whatsoever.
He isn't suited to it, and thrives in Serie A where he belongs. All the best to him their, he has my best wishes.
The recent performances are not inclinations that he will be a LFC player next season as we have a plenitude of talent in midfield. It's to 'advertise', if you like, the player to clubs interested in him since we are eager to sell him.

He may have played well today, but he is non-existent at best in your average premiership game, wherein you have your Boltons and Stokes lumping the ball up field for 90 mins and the rain belting down. Fancy pants wont like it then.

01 Aug 2011 22:40:16
God you guys all you do is complain about our players all the time It's pre season who gives a hell on the score line it should be used for spotting positives in every player. Aquaman does not want to be at our club - sell him end of (eds you are spot on) Torres had 2 years of not trying yet you lot stood by him and yet Johnson has a under average game and you slate him same with spearing, carrol and the legend carra Get over yourselfs and realise reina looked class and Adam was great doing what alonso did the solid job and getting his eye in for an attacking pass. What happened to supporting every player even when they had an under average game? Let alone in a pre season friendly. Oh another thing Gerrard if he never plays again will be a true legend on a par with kenny Even if he only plays 10 games that might be enough of a contribution to get in the champs league or blow me down to win the league. Forget the finished rumours If it happens it happens he will always be involved at LFC. So you negative fans grows some balls and see the positive side of Liverpool fc and remember kenny has never failed us yet with silverware
LETS concentrate on the quality things our players are doing and not the under par things our players are doing before the season even starts

Another thing I went on the stadium tour 3 weeks ago and asked both tour guides if they new what was going on and they said nobody has a clue at all But what they did say was if we moved grounds that the pitch itself could not be built on for houses etc based on sacrificial grounds because a number of players/fans have had there ashes scattered on the pitch itself, so a positive out of a negative.

Love the new look kenny team downing is a total breath of fresh air- come on the Liverpool

As far as i know United have first option on Shawcross since he moved to Stoke from there, is that right ed's ? Hope we dont sign him anyway rather have Dann and the likes

Well, I don't really no what to say about that performance. If I had my pessimistic head on I could pull certain individuals and the ballance of the team to pieces but there again if I hd my optimistic head on I could say there were glimpses of potential. Nevertheless, a million miles from a title winning squad. Top four will be an achievement.

01 Aug 2011 22:27:39
Surely we have enough midfielders now. We don't need another in Barton.

Heard Dann on SSN earlier. He was playing down rumours, but although he said things like "I'm still a Brimingham player" and "focused for next season", but it was clear from the way he was referring to his aspirations to play for a 'top club' that he wants to leave Birmingham for, presumably, his hometown of Liverpool.

01 Aug 2011 22:23:16
Liverpool are one of 4 clubs that have shown interest in Joey Barton prior to his placing on the transfer list. If Liverpool can offload the likes of Poulson, Meireles/Aquilani. Freeing up wages of around £160000pw wages. Then getting Barton on around £50000pw would be good business. Plus he's a Scouser, he's good friends with Gerrard and Carra, and knows what Liverpool are about. Arsenal may go for him if they sell Fabregas.

Hi Ed's and Reds

If Aquaman is leaving or about to leave..why play him and risk an injury..imo something doesnt seem right here..personally i would like him to stay and i think KK wants him to stay.does any1 else think the same or am i way out of the ball park with this.

PS ed002 think my post about possible owners was put across wrong by me the other nite..so sry for that and to fellow reds

This is just more of an opinion. I do not rate Dann and Cahill at all. They are too over priced and other clubs are interested in them. I don't get why kk isn't going for shawcross. He is a top quality defender, very young and Stoke only paided a couple of mill for him.

Put a bid of £9 mill and they will snap our hands off

Dann and Cahill are not the standard we want, shawcross is the guy we need to boost our defence.

Guyss dont be too hung up on the LFC results there are many reason, jetlag, we have travelled all round the world in the past few weeks, witha different team every game so have no chemistry and alot have never played together as they are either youth new signings or dont play much, anddd alot of ppl are away, suarez being no 1.

Peace.

Tonight we played a 3-3
am not worried as we had
gerrard suarez lucas and a 1st team LB missing.
Thats 4 players plus johnson half fit.

Gerrards our 1st main man captian and leader,
we will not sign a cb to replce carra as he
is the vice captian and 2nd leader as
gerrard is out, but if i was the gaffer
id sign scott dann.
Hes the faster & young version of Carra & play
him along side aggar and
make riena the vice captian. I think we will bid
for the lad 70% yes 30% no.

Suraez is the 2nd main player and made us
look like a different team 2nd half of season
also he can chance a game in a sec jus like
gerrard.

Glen johnson had a bad game but its his
1st game on pre season and he will get better.

Spearing? the guys 2 lightweight
he needs loaning. Hes had a bad pre-season
and in my eyes have only seen him play 1 good
game, arsneal away.

So with riena in nets at the bck
johnson dann aggar and enrique
midfield lucas and adams wih
suarez downing on wings rotating and
gerrard off carroll

We be much much better and be top3 99%

In Dann Enrique
Out Poulsen and the deadwood gang

Sorry to sound like a sycophant Ed01 but you are right about Aqualani. No stomach for EPL and no heart for LFC so he has to go. He was an I'll conceived buy and we should cut our losses and move on. Others may be dazzled by his talent but I could never see him putting a shift in on a cold and rainy Wednesday night at The Britannia against the cloggers from the potteries. I am inclined to suspect that his gearbox has six in reverse and one going forward.

To everyone talking about aquaman nobody is saying he isn't a good player with bags of talent the matter of fact is that he doesn't want to be at liverpool and his agent has said this on numerous occasions

KK needs to look hard at the defense we have. We need a new LB and CB. Far too many goals conceded in pre season. Although I try not to read too much into friendly's we must have a bit of concern in this regard. We need to get these players in fast so KK and SC can have a few weeks to work with them before the Sunderland game. does eds worry about the amount of goals we have let in against poor teams?? please respond

Ed....change my last entry to Robinson if you post it instead of Flannagan please before I get slated....got distracted.....

01 Aug 2011 21:50:58
If we don't keep Aquilani then I think the club is making a big mistake the likes of poulsen, spearing, shelvey and Henderson are not good enough players for us to make the top four the five clubs that finished up us have better squads, we should bring in Dann or Shawcross at centre half, Baines or Enrique at left back and try and bring in Adam johson and a back up striker and get rid of the crap at the club but on some of there performances in pre-season no one will want to buy them thanks for leaving the deadwood rafa and roy {Ed001's Note - Aquilani is the number one deadwood.}

01 Aug 2011 21:46:46
Here's my summary of tonight. A fair result and a good work out for the lads:
Reina - Normal solid, reliable self
Carragher - Worryingly slow, positionally poor.
Johnson - Same old, dangerous going forward, average defensively.
Agger - One of the best games he's ever had.
Flannagan - Good endeavour and definitely one for the future, but poor distribution tonight.
Spearing - Garbage. Will never be good enough while ever I've got a hole in my arse. Would love to see him succeed, but he won't.
Henderson - Good energy and desire to get forward, simple use of the ball, more to come from him.
Downing - Impressive runs, good crossing and I think he'll prove me wrong.
Adam - Good distribution, switched the play quickly and always looking to move the ball forward.
Kuyt - Same effort as ever, looked a bit jaded though and this effected his quality.
Carroll - Isolated a bit and this will get him frustrated. Some nice touches and always a threat when the balls played into him right.
We desperately need a new centre half and left back, that is obvious I know, but highlighted more so from the friendlies. As for all the Aquilani supporters, this guy looks neat and tidy in a friendly but he just can't hack the premier league. Nor does he want to play for us. We should just cash in and use the money to strengthen areas we need strengthening. We've got Gerrard, Suarez and Lucas to come back in yet too so keep the faith

01 Aug 2011 21:45:54
It clear we need a centre back Jamie C is a legend but we have to be realistic he was at fault a few times tonight. I think it's time to bring someone proven in such as Cahill or Dann and move Jamie into a squad player/coaching role. I hope i am wrong and he has a storming season

01 Aug 2011 21:45:51
Lets just get one thing straight...I think aqua man is only playing out of his skin cos he knows it will help get his transfer back to Italy.....what do you think ed? {Ed001's Note - yes, that is exactly it.}

01 Aug 2011 21:43:15
Why does everyone want Raul Meireles to leave?
He was our best player last season, not Lucas.
Has everyone forgot all the important goals he scored last season, if he wants to leave then yes, b

01 Aug 2011 21:42:03
Aquilani is our second best midfielder apart from gerrard

01 Aug 2011 21:35:49
just got to say young henderson watching him tonight and for england u-21s needs to inprove his all round game before hes a first team regular, which i am sure he will.....lfc

His nickname is - The Water Sausage.

Ed,

Sorry wasnt logging for the past two weeks.......

But why has Meirelles not been played in the matches.......

I saw today's match and he wasnt there.....

Is something wrong??

01 Aug 2011 21:05:38
3 goals per match. Fellow LFC fans. Where are we really going ?

01 Aug 2011 20:55:09
Hi ed(s)..just a quick question..eo xout think kenny has been playing Aquaman in order to persuade clubs of his quality and hopefully push through a permanent deal? There is no doubting his quality but the fact remains he doesn't want to be there and the club are actively trying to find him a new club. Also, could all those who are branding aquilani as world class and that we shouldn't sell him wake up..it's pre season and he just isn't made for the epl..and could you please stop harassing the ed's with the same questions over and over..great site by the way eds..totally addicted.
Ballina Red {Ed001's Note - we are desperate to offload him and his terrible attitude and that is why he is playing.}

01 Aug 2011 20:52:11
People will have to admit, we were great defending the end of last year, poor in pre-season, hmmm im trying to think of the player missing from the end of last season in pre season.....oh could it be lucas? lol

15 goals conceded in 5 games, wow wee, it may be pre season but that's a little worrying, is it lack of concentration because of the nature of these games, is it the constant subs disrupting the flow, or is simply the defence needs sorting,
i don't feel we should go into the season with our defence as it is now, johnson and kelly are our 1st choice left/right backs, other than that we'd be relying on flanno and robinson, that seem's a very light solution to any possible injuries, we can't rely on teenagers in high pressure games when expectations are as big as ever after spending 100 million on forwards and midfielders, what a waste of money it would turn out to be if our defence let us down because we did'nt go and spend maybe 10 - 20 million pound on a quality full back and centre back, i feel scott dann should be brought, a good defender, young, hungry, scouse, he wants it, jose enrique, a good full back, just over 20 million for both, why not??
carra's getting no younger and no quicker, and Kyrgiakos has had it, he's to old, to slow, to clumsy, and is'nt really a quality player, skrtel and agger are good but i think both are a little rash and hasty, so surely we need to sure up our defence, but there is only 2 weeks before we kick off the season, i would be very dissapointed not to see a couple of defenders brought in to complete a good summer transfer window, no defenders coming in seem's to signal a very worrying and nervous season hanging on to wins or draws and fans nails being bitten to the root lol, i'm dying for the season to kick off, but a little worried at goals conceded, come on KK and DC, sort it

01 Aug 2011 20:48:15
ed do you not understand that aquaman is wanted by lfc fans the guy looks class and i hope to god he stays with liverpool {Ed001's Note - do you not understand that there is a very good reason he has failed to feature in many games for us? I really couldn't care less what a few fans have decided based on a few meaningless friendlies.}

01 Aug 2011 20:46:43
If we the fans can see it then im sure kenny can too, Aquilani is a quality midfielder and keeping hm would bt great... Bt if he really does want to leave we cant stop hm

I always always have said that aqua would prove his quality if given a chance. But thanks to his poor treatment in previous seasons he now admits he dosnt want to play for us. We have no choice but to sell him know as we cant afford to have players unwilling to fight for the club. If he had been used better last season I believe he would have proved to us that he is one of the most quality players in our midfield. A real shame.

E.H LFC {Ed002's Note - There is no doubt about his ability and I would contest that Liverpool have treated him poorly aside from possibly when he was bought over when injured.}

01 Aug 2011 20:42:48
ed your thoughts on the game.also the player who shall not be named was playing well to get a move dont you think surely some more clubs will be interested.DORSET RED {Ed002's Note - I saw the second half and although Aquilani looked good and Reina confident, the others looked clumsy and trying to do too much using their physical strengths. Other clubs are interested in Aquilani, not least Juventus and AC Milan.}

01 Aug 2011 20:42:03
THIS IS HUNCH I THINK ITS LIKELY THAT LIVERPOOL WILL SELL NGOG AQUAMAN TO FUND DANN AND ENRIQUA.
AS I THINK KENNY HAS BEEN TOLD TO SELL BEFORE BUY ANYMORE

01 Aug 2011 20:40:14
It's a pity aqua doesn't want to play for the best club in the world. He could come in handy for the season ahead. I think Downing will be a very good signing. Another good week of training and a good hard match vs Valencia and I will be looking forward to the season ahead. What you think Ed? {Ed002's Note - Aquilani will go; the fans are overly worrying about a poor pre-season; Liverpool should be challenging for a European place next season.}

01 Aug 2011 20:39:56
Adam is going to be a flop signing, Aqualiani is clearly better than him and so is Meireles and Lucas he really wasnt needed :/

01 Aug 2011 20:38:46
{Ed001's Note - ARGHHHH No more, the lad wants out and we would be mad to keep him anyway, so what if he looks good in a game that is only about fitness?}

==========================

Ed001 Missed your presence on these pages, where were you?.
I'll have to disagree with you, its not all about fitness, yes pre season dont win or loose you titles but its often an indicator on how your season will pan out, many in here in the past couple weeks consoled themselves, with "its only a friendly" "Its pre season game for fitness etc etc", but we should be asking why the likes of United / Chelsea / City etc win most if not all of their pre seasons, also looking back at our own , the last decent pre season was in 2008/2009 where we won 6 out of 8 games (including beating this very same Valerenga 1-4) and drawn the other 2.

Eds PLEASE POST THIS

Aquilani's 10 minutes of class.

1. Forces great save with volley outside the area .
2.Takes the corner straight onto Agger's head 2-2.
3. Forces great save with drive from again outside the box.
4. Takes his second corner and Agger finishes again 2-3.

I am very glad to say that downing is proving me wrong. Looks a quality buy up till now. Johnson should be played as right wing because he's great to watch going forward but makes me twitch when he "defends". Henderson has one hell of an engine on him and as im typing this agger's just scored

liverpool bought charlie adam to do what aquilani can do 10 times better the man is gifted hes a super player and has shown great attitude towards the games hes played this pre-season with gerrards injury why not keep him? if he leavges for 8 million and has a great season which he probably will do get into the italian side for the euros and have a great tournament hes going to be regarded as one of the most technichally gifted footballers in europe and will have a big transfer price think it would be a mistake to leave him go...

01 Aug 2011 20:20:18
well after watching tht match i can see alot of positives did think carroll looked a bit sluggish but settled down well downing looked great brilliant cross for carroll to get the goal back in the first half did notice kuyt seemed quite tired, henderson definately has an engine defence still shaky johnson just wasnt rele with it today understandably kelly looked good when he came on decision making needs to be addressed as i felt on a number ocasions the wrong choice was made but wow when aquilani came on if hes in the shop window for around ten million im surprised there arent a handful of teams lining up for completely changed our style of play all in all a good entertaining match but if we produce tht against sunderland i can see us loosing valarenga impressed me tonight especially tht young cb cant remember his name now, good to see sterling get a run out but i think hes maybe a season off breaking into the 1st team properly i can see valencia being a great match but theres no way we will see mata swapping teams at half time ;)

We should try our best to convince him to stay he is the only player who has been consistently good so far. {Ed002's Note - There is simply no point in having this same discussion over and over again.}

hi all great site just watched the norway match and am shocked to say but the only time we looked threatning was when aqua was brought on................ i know alot of people want him out of liverpool and think hes not good enough for premier league but in all fairness hes a decent player and i think he is far better on the ball than adam and downing......if this game was anything to go by i think we should keep him til january at least to help settle in other players .....on another note our defence is shocking johnson needs a fast kick back to reality......well done to the team tho good preformance in the second half but work still needs to be done and with the season fast approaching it needs to be done now to get them working as a unit.i think in time all our new arrivals will prove them selves but they need to do it quick.

Jay Spearing is not LFC quality He is good at emergency situations like last year People will say it's moaning time after a draw today but the reality is he is not good enough to play for LFC though a local lad We miss Lucas, Sell Spearing or send him on loan somewhere else The lad has determination & runs all over the pitch but he lacks the physical strength need to play as a DM & his tackling is awful. I think it won't do any harm if LFC buys another Defensive midfielder as we only have one class player in that position (Lucas) what if he gets injured we are left with nothing - Raul can play their but he lacks once again that defensive strength to cope with the ball.

I think we should PRIORITIZE sign a CB who can also play as a Defensive midfielder (eg: Stephen Mbia of Marseille, Verthogen of Ajax.. ETC)

Our defense still needs to improve & hope it will
Great play from the likes of Downing & Henderson Carroll was looking lively & if he can get those type of crosses he would be just like a firing BIG RED MACHINE.

eds what do u think of the way aqualani has just just played for the last 20 mins or so against vallerenga??? i think he could do a cracking job for us this season ,
he had some good shots , which ended up with the resulting corners of two goals {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to know exactly when he will leave. Perhaps Liverpool might even get a league game out of him before he goes.}

01 Aug 2011 20:11:24
I've got to say tonights game wasnt all that bad for us, all of our starting XI got 60mins+. Carroll isnt obviously fully match fit yet but not far off it, hes creating problems. Its gonna be a lethal pairing wether its him n suarez, him n kuyt or suarez n kuyt.

Also im not a big fan of the italian aqua, but if he sorts out his attitude, he could be a real asset for us.

Hopefully we're in the mix around mid october time when gerrard will be back and in full flow we're definatly going to be a force this coming season, even though i don't think we'll be winning the title this year but top four is definatly a possibaility

Quite an awful performance tonight and very worrying. There was brief signs of promise and a couple passages of good play but this was mixed in with poor tackling, silly miss-placed passes and horrendous defending.

Reina - looked good considering it was his first game back. Made a couple good saves and nearly got to the penalty. Had very little chance with both goals.

Carra and Agger - were both very poor in defense and Johnson was nothing short of terrible at RB. Robinson was also sloppy but considering his age and experience was not a bad game for him.

Adam - made some decent passes, good corners and a great effort on target but gave away possession and made some bad tackles. Was not at fault for their penalty (which should not have been given).

Spearing - did not have a great game and made a lot of miss-placed passess.

Kuyt - gave the usual solid Dirk performance but in the first half was not involved much, however this was not his fault as it was an odd decision by Kenny to start him on the left.

Henderson - looked bright and made a lot of decent movement. A few good passes but was not overly involved much of the time. He did track back well and helped with defense.

Downing - made some decent crosses and some good movement, again was a strange decision to play him down the right in the first half as he did not create a single cross for Carroll.

Carroll - felt very sorry for big andy this evening. He looked lonely and dejected up front and consequently very frustrated, no one from midfield got near him for him to knock balls down too and he failed to win many headers.

Was great to see a lots of the younger lads given a chance such as Sterling etc. Aqua had a great 30 mins, whether he was just trying to look good for AC Milan or not im not sure.

Although it was a sloppy and poor performance, it has to be remembered that the liverpool team tonight had only about 30 mins together in the Hull game and thats it, so its not surprising they did not gel effectively. The Norwegians have played a lot already and looked sharp. There was some promising play and moments which looked promising. However, this close to start of the League campaign it is worrying and our defense HAS to be looked at and addressed. But it is too late now for them to get any pre-season games if anyone is brought in.

Cheers lads, and I hope for a much better performance a week Sat against Sunderland.

After watching the match, I am sorry for the rant but the performance was pretty poor in my opinion. Valerenga dominated in possession and passing, and completely dominated the first half.

I think that it is blindingly obvious that LB, CD and backup striker positions NEED to be filled before the window closes.

People who were very impressive were Agger and Kelly. They were energetic, showed great skill on the ball, and weren't afraid to get into good spaces and take their chances.

Though on for 10 minutes, what an impressive display made by Aqualani If Liverpool let this guy go, it will be a massive mistake. If he can stay fit for the season, he will be a force to be reckoned with. The play opened up and the goals started to flow as soon as he came on.

Carroll I think is yet to show anything impressive. I think he has a lot of work still left to do with regards to fitness, and I hope that he can develop a partnership with Downing quite quickly, so that the 35million is actually worth it. I think if Downing works with Carroll and then bring in the trickiness of Suarez, we will have an amazing attacking team. However, all the attack in the world means nothing, if we keep conceding goals. Flanno looked inexperienced and was consistently outpaced.

Big defensive improvements needed.

After watching the game against Valarenga, the Liverpool hierarchy will have a look at Harmeet Singh. A Norwegian player but of Indian descent. Tapping into thee Indian market is huge, LFC already has a loyal Asian following in the UK (I can imagine Blackburn going in for him).

BTW. Why are we getting rid of Aqualani? The guy is a quality player, Suarez would benefit from his style of play. Hodgson loaned him out, now he probably doesn't want to play for us.

Really enjoyable game of football that was. Now we would be foolish if we let Aquaman go on loan - instead we should put a £20m price tag on him. He was certainly worth that today.
Another good workout and finally some first - teamers got a run out. Keep up the good work, Eds. This is by far the best LFC related web site on the web. Have you thought of adding "donate" to the interface. I would gladly donate a "couple of quid" now and then to keep the site going/improving. Much better use of money than buying membership of useless "Koptalk". God bless.

we were winning 3-2 with two minutes to go and they scored a good goal. game ended 3-3 and overall we have played ok, defensively still a bit dodgy though. Agger and Downing were men of the match, and agger scored two. Yet again aquilani made a big difference and both won and delivered the corners for agger to score twice.

He's been dynamite yet again. Why we getting rid of him again ed - he's been our most consistent player pre-season.

I really dont see aqua man going despite interest from Italy. His agent is a waste of time he should sack him.
I dont think enrique is going to come in because that is not the Liverpool way to let the press have it.
We do need a left back, centre back and striker if Ngog goes unless he really proves himself but i doubt it.

1. Left back pereira, or cissokho < since things gone quiet

2. Centre Back Dann or Cahill but i think Shawcross

3. Striker i do think if bueno shines he will be back up, if not a young english striker

just watching the game at the moment and
aqua playing good since he has come on. is there any chance of keeping him till xmas until gerrard is back and fully fit as we dont know how long he be out {Ed001's Note - ARGHHHH! No more, the lad wants out and we would be mad to keep him anyway, so what if he looks good in a game that is only about fitness?}

Aquaman man of the match, he's only been on 10min, we can't sell him, good replacement as Gerrard is injured, midfield of downing on left aquaman, Adam in middle Henderson on right.

I've been away on hols for a while and have fallen behind on the stories going around
I M O i think we would be foolish to get rid of Aqulini(By all acc he wants to leave but talk him round) the pre season has shown his quality and guile that i think we're lacking in the midfield in that dept i might be wrong for what we get for him we wont replace him with a player of the same quality

01 Aug 2011 19:49:54
Anyone else thinking that Aquilani has done well in the 15mins since coming on. Chances of keeping him ed?

Preston Wool {Ed001's Note - please stop asking about Aquilani, the question has been answered numerous times day after day. The player doesn't want to stay and that is all there is to it. Good riddance of a player who is simply not up to the task.}

01 Aug 2011 19:51:42
Not so much a rumour, but KK needs to do all he can to keep Aqualani. In 8 minutes tonight he completely outclassed and contributed more than both Henderson and Adam did in 70/80 mins.

Just wondering that it just goes to show if Big Andy gets the right service what a handfull he is. Nice to see Henderson and Downing all 3 of the above questioned to the max, happen to have been our best 3 player's in the first half. We're missing Lucas like a hole in the head and Kelly has to be right back the way Johnson performed in the first half, centre back, left back, back up forward and our 2 Copa player's back and things are not as bad as the seem to some. Jonson6

01 Aug 2011 19:06:11
Dear god we are missing Lucas He tries his best but Spearing is no replacement. Lots of running around to no avail.

I hope to god Kenny decides to pick Kelly instead of Johnson as RB against Sunderland, Johnson is absolutely clueless when it comes to defending, he plays with zero intelligence.

also..........we miss lucas controlling in midf.......too....
other than that...good workout and test for the guys coming back from injuries....

01 Aug 2011 19:02:07
Just watched first half of match in Norway. Getting beat 2-1 at moment but my comments are:
Downing playing well, henderson ok but not as involved. Charlie Adams looking tidy, but little subdued for some reason. Johnson getting ripped apart, Carra playing ok. Agger looks fit and comfortable on the ball and Robinson looks tidy and is getting some nice tackles in but the whole game is being allowed to be played in our half, and were backing off them too much. Spearing and henderson not closing central midfield and theres just no magic in the centre.

Carrol and Kuyt not getting any service, but Carrol scored decent goal following knock on header from Agger.

We looked Ok at the start but we backed off them after 10 mins and they started ripping us apart. Summary: Central midfield not closing down at moment and there is no real intelligent play or incisive passing. The defence looks a bit disjointed despite having 4 decent players who should know each other, Strikers working hard but not getting any real service. Considering the fitness levels we are playing OK but KK will be frustrated with them.....no guile

Who said our defence would be ok with Carra and Agger back in there. Well conceded 2 goals in the first 45 min. At least big Andy got one back. Deffo need centre backs though.

01 Aug 2011 18:57:01
Carroll--Decent. He needs service and will score if he gets them.

Wings--Looks perfect. The problems in wide positions are solved.

Midfield---Adam and Spearing lacks defensive quality. Though Adam can pick players out wonderfully. People should now understand what Lucas brings to the team.

Defense----Terrible. Johnson looks out of depth.(Though it's understandable, first start in preseason). Carra looks rusty. Agger brilliant going forward. Robinson is doing a great job but we need an experienced left back alongside a commanding CB (Dann, Cahill, Shawcross, Vertonghen, Godin).
Maybe Kenny is trusting Skrtel to provide that.

Reina----It's a relief to have him back

Not a Liverpool rumour but javier pastore on verge of moving to PSG for 43 million on espn 417 sky ( suarezs left ball ) whats your thought ed ?? Has football gone mad do you think there will ever be a cap on transfers stupid money ed you got to agree {Ed001's Note - they have put a cap on it of a kind, the FFP ruling. Joey Barton available on a free transfer. Liverpool are expected to make a £20 million bid later on today.

ha ha ha

Also, The reason the Arsenal and Mata deal has broken down is because Mata has a statement in his contract that says if he is still a Valencia player on August the 1st, a buy out clause of 60 million euro's is activated.

So you won't get him.

my vote wud be on heung min son

barton to liverpool on a free? hes a bit of an person but the lad can play football, and with gerrard injured id take him for free all day

01 Aug 2011 17:25:40
Joe cole is to be given one more season to prove his worth after talks with Kenny Dalglish. I dont think we should get rid of Joe, I still think he can be a good asset to the squad, he can play almost anywhere over the midfield. We need to get rid of Poulsen, Insua, Ngog and jovanovic ASAP. Bring in Enrique, G Cahill, A Johnson and a back up striker, possibly Shane Long. YNWA

News: Sought-after defender Scott Dann is ignoring the ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from Birmingham and focusing on the season ahead.

Source: SSN

Is this just nonsense? Given the fact that teams are after Dann, and Birminghams financial situation, isn't it likely he will be elsewhere next season, regardless of whether its Liverpool or another premier league team?

Joey barton available on a free, gotta be worth a punt surley, 100% thug, but a decent combative midfielder, could be just what we need, especially the fact he's on a free

John Henry has warned that he expects to see CL football back next season. I Think this will be more difficult than last season. The so called mid table teams are getting stronger.
Also the fact that we are unable to attract big names. There is so much dead wood in our squad, none of them are real match winners are not fit the wear the red jersey.
Required CB - I would settle for nothing less than GC, LB - Sissoko or Baines.
Aqua man is another centralised attacking midfielder that can open defenses,
one of the stand out performances on our poor pre season tour.
I would personally keep him then when G man returns find a formation that will suit both. W
inger- Aarron lennnon would inject some more direct pace and another CF with pace that knows where the goal is to cover suarez if he get injured or needs rest.

Afternoon eds. whats the chances of Juan Mata joining up with Liverpool? Is this right that he wont be joining Arsenal or Spurs? i no Liverpool need to get rid of players but whats the money situation? Do we have money to spend still? {Ed002's Note - Very slim.}

Guillem Balague tweeted earlier that the release clause in Matas contract has now expired. As a result his price will now jump upto 60mill euros. He is now most likely to sign a new contract at Valencia.

I've been watching the videos of the Liverpool Under 18s on LFC.tv... Some of the strikers are top quality, very attacking minded side, won 8-0, 3-0, 4-0, 6-0... Some quality build-up play for some of the goals, great to see the future is bright...

I feel very happy today coz King Kenny is the Liverpool boss, Since he took over from a man called hedgehogg, things have been ever so great and very Ngog, so i sit here with glee over my keyboard , waiting for Ed to break news before skysports And hoping we bid for Mata or Hazard or even Cavani or Cahil or Baines... Who knows what the outcome, come september the 1st but i'm shure we'll hear it first, from one of the Ed's.

hi there ed how u doing.i said a week ago that we will get scott dan an i so think that is the case i think its 90% done.but ed i thnk there could be 3 or 4 new lfc players coming in with what is going on with steve G, carra, agger sick note.we are very poor at the back with the CB roll an we need big time cover for are back line, i think the owners an kenny now know that its time an has to be sorted , 1, dann, 2 ryan shawcross, 3, An it could be there is some legs 2 the swap deal with the ski over sturridge good back up i like the boy if not, then why not this ed it's a big twist but why not have a swap west ham want j.cole an could that be c.cole coming the other way.now i know kenny would like more player's an us as fans sure would, are owners will back kenny its not about money to spend its about the wage bill an balance witch is spot on.but we are looking so much better than what we were with all are new player's, i like it looks good for us top 4 hear we come. the team tonight kenny has said will look more like what we will go with when we kick off for real so i cant wait to see how we look cant wait for the prem to kick off...stll more twist's an turns to come 2 weeks of the window to go COME ON...JAY ESSEX RED FOR LIFE RED TILL DEAD

Eds,

I haven't posted in a while because of work travel and commitments. I have to admit I haven't read much on here either because since the Hull defeat in a pre-season friendly with a hodge-podge team of ressies, U-18's and fringe senior players with very little chemistry between them. This site has become the equivalent of reading the obituaries in a local fish wrap. The new season is a couple of weeks away and we are blending the new players in. The Copa player of the tournament is on a wee break but will be back to help us to 4 points out of the opening 2 games IMO.
If we get a result tonight that makes all the "managers" happy, then all will be good again for at least a day. Such a shower of fickle bastages we have that follow our team. Thankfully I have fully figured out how to use this site. I read the Eds comments first and only read the posts that are signed. Macca's page is always getting 2 daily visit. 001, 002 and 009 have been in great form all summer and I can't wait for the in season banter from those lads/lassies.

Mata move to Arsenal off due to new 30m buy out clause

01 Aug 2011 14:19:55
Dann is as average as Downing, paying 12m for him is as bad as going to pay 18m for Downing who would do that? OH wait...
Seriously Ayala is a better CB ask any Hull or Derby fan yea it's in the championship but even Dann has had only one season in the prem.
Jordan Henderson will be a great player mark my words, will be a fat frank for us without being fat

01 Aug 2011 14:05:41
Juan mata and silva are very similar players....remember when we had the chance to get silva, now look at him at city....he is epic.....letting mata slip away into arsenals hands will be a big mistake...dalglish needs to buy a non-british player

01 Aug 2011 13:39:21
Personally Liverpool have spent well this transfer window. The players they have signed will strengthen the squad. It will come as an advantage that no big name player has signed for us this season, along with the fact that we have not experienced or seen the best of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in a Liverpool shirt.

01 Aug 2011 13:33:19
Apologies in advance if I have missed the news but what is the position of Fabio Aurelio ?

Kenny does not even mention him among the injured players these days . Has he left the club or retired ?

Hey Ed's/Fellow Reds,
How r ye all today? Not reading too much into the pre-season friendlies r we?
I wish people would lay off Andy Carrolls case.
His main aim is to get 100%fit and trim the excess weight he was carrying before end of season.The excess weight didnt help his recovery.
I for 1 think he's lookin sharp an to see some of the poor lineups hes had to play with to be fair doesnt help you score goals.I mean J.Cole treading through balls to him to run onto is not ideal for him. Wait to see him with a full team, Downing, Suarez etc. playing around him he will be good.If anyone was at Anfield to watch him in the Man s**tty game then you will all agree he was unplayable that nite, Kompany(best CB in Prem last season) and Lescott(better known as the elephant man)couldnt cope with him.Us fans always gave players time and now we need to be patient as he will prove to be a quality signing for us.
Also I see some people calling for the Prem title, this will also require patience.AS long as theMacs dont win it I dont care who does as we need to grow and evolve into a quality squad.This will not happen over night.I think Champs league qualification and a domestic cup would be fantastic season.One thing for sure is that Kenny will take every comp serious unlike previous managers.We need take it in our stride as over expecting will only disappoint.Champs league qualifications will then make us stronger again.We have had 2 dissappointing campaigns and cannot expect over night success, all we can keep asking for is to continue to improve.Tlk soon fellow reds and see some of you at the Sunderland game.Feel free to slate or comment if ye will but I think this is a season for us to unite even stronger.We have great responsible owners and management team and a strong squad to be proud of and it will be a good season.

Cheers

01 Aug 2011 12:06:40
Hi EDs
We all know the likely 2 players coming in to fill CB & LB but What about up front & right wing, I've heard if we do sign Adam Johnson we wont bother with a striker as KK will use Kuyt & Maxi as support for our main 2 of Carroll & Suarez but if he gets a lesser winger say more of a squad player ( a good quality squad player not like what we have now ) then we will look at the possibility of a striker. now just a thought but what about Defoe, he's always in the goals & don't think his fee would be higher than £10million plus he is rumoured tobe unhappy at spurs and asked for a loan or transfer if he's not gonna get a game...what you think ED's? {Ed002's Note - It all sounds unlikely I am afraid.}

01 Aug 2011 12:09:28

Starting to get sick of so called Liverpool fans slagin Big Andy off. It was Lucas now its Carrol. Give the guy a chance, he's been here half a season and come with an injury. I agree with a few posters on here he will score close to 20 goals next season, but also he will put defenders through hell, god knows how many assists and create space for the one and only Luis Suarez. The guys young and will be a massive hit at our great club. Maybe at this moment in time he's not worth 35 mill, however he's young, British and will probebly be worth more than what we paid for him in 5 years time.

FERNANDO TORRES + 7 MILL?
OR
LUIS SUAREZ + ANDY CARROL?

I know who I'd rather have..

We should all be optimistic and hope that when Gerrard is fully fit he will be unable to regain his place in the team (or even on the bench, for that matter). He's been unmissable for a long time and it's about time that that situation came to an end.

My assesement of our squad

Brad Jones - sell/release
Fabio Aurelio - sell/release
Joe Cole - sell
Maxi - wants to go home - sell
Soto Kyrgiakos - sell - too old and offers nothing anymore
Jay Spearing - loan out
Christian Poulsen - sell
Jonjo Shelvey - loan out
El Zhar - sell/release
Milan Jovanovic - sell/release - (hopefully gone already)
Insua - sell
Wilson/Ayala - loan out
Philip Degen - sell/release

Aquilani - should convince him to stay - best passer in squad along side Stevie G, and wants the ball.

That would release alot of wages and hopefully able us to sign what we need

International Standard required for LB, CB, RW.

Kelly/Coady/Wisdom/Pacheco/Flano/Robinson can be used sparingly during the season to develop properly rather than rushed.

CB is an issue have we no one to dominate ? Carra getting slower. Skrtel - Solid but does concentrate fully, Agger - injury prone.

hi eds fellow reds

been reading some things being said about our owners, they cant afford us there in it for the money etc etc

ive siad this before i remember listening to radio 2 dj chris evens, whom was talking about being at f1 race around same time fsg was trying to buy us, he was talking about seeing the people fsg have backing them, anyway chris evans knows one of the backers to fsg and he says the guy alone could buy liverpool and throw money at it without problems, he assured all the worried liverpool fans at the time that we was going to be in very good hands, fsg is a very wealthy set up with mega rich backers

next thing is, how many times have our past owners been willing to interact with us as fans? none. fsg have tried time and time again to gain peoples trust by interacting with us through media and live events, everything they have said they will do upto now they have done it, so as they say KEEP THE FAITH

WE ARE IN GOOD HANDS1 {Ed002's Note - FSG is a business and the money the investors personally have is not and never will be available to Liverpool.}

Everyone saying that if we sign Dann or Cahill, then expect Dagger or Skrtel to leave, to me just doesn't make sense. If we're lacking defensively surely we should look to keep to of our best CB's and look to sell Kyrigakos n put Wilson on loan.

01 Aug 2011 09:31:50
All but four weeks of the transfer window left, and still no offers for the deadwood, my fear is we will be stuck with them and there wages, they are holding back the progress of our youth playersand are not Liverpool standard.

Is it me or does anybody else find the 'infection in the groin' press release a little odd. Gerrard had his op before the end of the season if I remember correctly, however somehow developed an infection local to the injured site 2/3 months later. That is pretty unlikely unless the wound never healed, which I doubt they would have left it this long, or he developed a systemic infection like cellulitis or blood poisoning however this wasn't stated plus the reports of him being up walking would make this impossible. It would lead me to the conclusion that a) there was no infection and that he was actually going into hospital for more work on his groin (another op) or b) he has already had another op, possibly to tidy up debris/excess scar tissue around the injured site and since developed an infection. Of course I could be completely wrong but I have never seen patients diagnosed with local infections at injured sites months after an operation, this is something that would normally be picked up much sooner. If it is the case he has gone under the knife again then a 6 week lay off would be likely give or take a couple of weeks dependent on his condition pre-operatively. My guess is we wouldn't see Gerrard until at least mid September.

Onto tonights game hope we see a much better performance and higher intensity from the start. It will be good to see a stronger line up leading up to the start of the season.

Greggers {Ed002's Note - It was (b).}

Hi all,

with the Valencia friendly coming up soon i was wondering if there were any Valencia players (not mata) that Liverpool could potentially be after or keeping an eye on during the game?

I think Scott Dann is most likely CB option. A talented Liverpool lad and would only cost about 8m. However on the left back front i know Enrique is most likely but i honestly don't get what Kenny sees in him.

Hi Ed, do you have anything on the status of Aurelio? {Ed002's Note - Nothing at all right now.}

01 Aug 2011 07:38:01

Dave Moli looks like a great prospect mate. I think he's scored 10-15 goals in the U-18's, in the last 3-4 games. If he is only 15, then we could have another gem on our hands.

Blair Mayne YNWA

---

Its hard to tell if he will actually be any good considering he's 6ft + at that age playing against lads small than him even at u18 level. Have to wait to see him against reserve defenders who he can't push about.

01 Aug 2011 03:40:41
Why are people making so much of Adam Johnson he would cost way too much were as we can have Marko Marin for a much lesser amount.

I know that we are taking players who have premier league experience , but Marin wants to get back to his national team so he would be motivated to do well here.

Marin has contract that runs till 2013 so he has two yrs left and its not known if he has signed any extension to this contract.

WB may be willing to listen to offers for him to strengthen their squad with other signings.

Marin is younger than A.Johnson, and in My opinion better option than A.Johnson.

01 Aug 2011 02:35:28
Raheem Sterling's chances of first team football would have been completely eliminated if we had signed Aguero. Players like Raheem should & will be given opportunities at the highest level. Suso, Morgan etc just need to be blooded responsibly. We know that we have an excellent coaching staff who won't burn them out too early. But if Wilshere & Walcott are good enough than Suso is comparable to Wilshere & Sterling is better than Walcott.

Personally, I just don't see the appeal in joining any of these clubs, perhaps excluding Chelsea and Citeh, as they are in the EPL and have a higher chance of success, but Anzhi? Malaga? PSG? None of these clubs are big, and are never going to make it to the very top.

Anzhi - no question there really, awful league, Russia - not a great place to live - no appeal.

PSG - Paris is a beautiful city, but the French league is absolutely awful.

Malaga - I doubt will beat Valencia and Villareal to 3rd/4th and no question of title-winning...

But most of all (including Chavski and Man Sh*tty) they have no history or tradition like US THE MIGHTY REDS, or Juve, Madrid, Milan clubs, Barca, dare I say the Mancs and Arsenal.

Good reply mate, i think we should all see the common theme here, the clubs that are having the massive cash injections are all clubs that are either young clubs or older ones that really don't have the soul and traditional support base that the clubs like LFC, Juve etc. This is because the buyers of these clubs know it's a clean slate, where they can try and buy supporters, this rarely works however, and i doubt we will see any of these clubs being labelled a "big club" any time soon, yes chelsea are a big club by way of financial pulling power, but when it comes to tradition, support and a bit of graft, they're nothing. Also, just thought i'd add, the Russian league is not so terrible these days, and don't picture russia as it is portrayed in american films as a snowblown, wintery hell-hole with peasants lining up for a loaf of bread in the middle of a blizzard dodging falling bricks from run-down buildings, it's actually very different to that. also PSG i think are trying to be as big as Lyon, which IS a big club, although not in a big league, but i think they're going the wrong way about it and it will fail soon, same story with Malaga.

El juego hermoso.

------------------Reina-----------------
Johnson---Carra------Dann-----Enrique
Henderson---Adam-----Lucas-----Downing
-------------Carroll---------Suarez/Kuyt

Starting 11 vs Sunderland?
P.s, the reason its kuyt or suarez depends on suarez's fitness...
