Gotta love derby days! Well that is the red half of Merseyside that is.
Thought we thoroughly deserved the win and apart frm some shameful refereeing would have won by a better 3-1 score line. Barkley is a disgrace and would love retro respect action taken against him. A few awful 'tackles' today then had the cheek to throw himself to the ground and dive what a bellend! Enough of me talking about that the game should be remembered for a true lfc legend in 'Bugsy ' YNWA.

Since we need a good keeper is there any motive Liverpool aren't looking into Benfica's Ederson? The guy is worldclass and probably the next Oblak or even better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - But of zero interest.}

01 Apr 2017 22:22:29
I would say that the ones we are apparently looking at are no better than Mignolet or Karius.

02 Apr 2017 06:01:00
Migs has been in decent form recently while Karius will no doubt improve next season. The likes of Pickford, Ruffier etc we are looking at are no improvements on what we already have so I say we stick with what we have for next season where both GKs rotate and share responsibilities. Breeds healthy competition and hopefully will push both to work on their weaknesses. Unless we get someone like DE Gea, Oblak, Neur or Courtois, i think we should reevaluate the GK situation after a couple of seasons.

02 Apr 2017 06:36:40
I think it's the team's biggest weakness.

02 Apr 2017 09:08:46
Th team's biggest weakness is at LB and CB. A left footed LB will bring out the best in Coutinho and provide more width than Milner. Matip also needs a more consistent partner who can handle pacy strikers.

02 Apr 2017 10:21:11
Has anyone seen Ruffier play? Haha. The guy is a monster of a keeper. Probably in the top three keepers in Ligue 1. Maybe even the best.

Pickford I agree overall probably isn't massively better than Mignolet or Karius (though he is definitely better), but he would be a long term investment rather than an instant massive improvement.

Why do people always moan about whoever we are interested in? Pickford will play for a top 4-6 team one day. Either we get in there early, or he goes to Chelsea or United and we can all bemoan"the one that got away" when he starts winning league titles there. As for Ruffier he is not quite world class but definitely in that bracket just below.

02 Apr 2017 10:57:01
the next Oblak? he's only 24 haha.

02 Apr 2017 15:11:31
I've seen Ruffier play for years in the French league and he's not good enough.

01 Apr 2017 19:47:13
Just wondering if the eds have any idea of who would be Lfc's back up plan to Brandt? Assuming the Brandt deal to Bayern goes through?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I previously suggester Max Meyer.}

01 Apr 2017 23:27:11
Hey ed - sorry, but can you confirm if Bayern have actually started negotiations for Brandt?

{Ed002's Note - Nothing is finalised and it would not be out of the question to see this as a deal for 2018.}

01 Apr 2017 17:03:54
Hey ed Match review please?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - still working on it, just trying to do it in breaks in the play of the south coast derby.}

01 Apr 2017 18:51:20
Let's be patient with Ed. Remember he's got to do stuff for all the other sites as well and he's up to his neck in work.

Hurry up Ed we haven't got all day 😏.

{Ed001's Note - it's done now mate and on the others page.}

01 Apr 2017 18:28:42
Ed1, know you're a busy man but would really appreciate your take on a few things. 1) What is your opinion on Ronaldinho? Thought he was a wonderful player and seemed a nice guy, shame he seemed to peak earlier then decline rather quickly. 2) If you could only pick one player in their prime between Ronaldinhio, Messi and Ronaldo who would you pick and why?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Ronaldinho was obscenely talented but more interested in partying than playing football and that is why his career peaked so early. He simply lacked desire and application to match his supreme talent.

Ronaldo is, or rather was, the perfect physical ideal of a footballer, incredibly fast, explosive acceleration, strong, great in the air and has fantastic technique to match. Unfortunately, while a genuinely nice guy off the pitch, on the pitch he is far too selfish and is not a team player on it, so he would be my third pick of them, for that reason.

Ronaldinho would be second choice, despite being the more naturally talented of the trio. Winning was not everything for him, he was more interested in looking good and having fun than winning.

Messi would have to be the choice, even though I do not like him or anything he stands for. He has that nasty win at all costs mentality that you need to win titles, as well as being more of a team player than Ronaldo.}

01 Apr 2017 18:54:48
Thanks Ed1 much appreciated. Totally agree with you regarding Ronaldo, really selfish player on the pitch but has/ had all the attributes that you envisage with the perfect footballer. Regarding Ronaldinhio, if only he applied himself he could have gone down as the greatest, sad when you think about it.

{Ed001's Note - it feels like a waste of talent. When you look at someone like Kante, who gives 100% from the moment he steps on the pitch, never stops running and chasing for the team, can you imagine if he had Ronaldinho's talents?}

01 Apr 2017 19:20:42
Ronaldhino is my favourite player of all time, but i think what if he had aplpied himself further.

01 Apr 2017 21:16:32
Inesta better than both.

01 Apr 2017 21:54:48
Who would you guys say was the best number 9 between Brazilian Ronaldo and Suarez?

{Ed002's Note - Measured how?}

01 Apr 2017 22:24:31
At their peak? Ronaldo. He was devastating.

01 Apr 2017 20:05:18
Ed where would you rate zidane with them 3.

{Ed001's Note - below, way below. He was even more of a showboater than Ronaldinho, in that it was all about the tricks and flicks for him, rather than being effective first. Great player but those three are on a whole other level to him.}

02 Apr 2017 02:33:30
Brazilian ronaldo, Suarez will go down as one of the best strikers of our generation but ronaldo is probably the greatest striker of all time at his peak. Pele statistically but let's face it ronaldo was far and away a more talented player than pele. He would be my striker in an all time starting 11.

{Ed001's Note - the 'fat' Ronaldo, at his peak, was probably the best player I have ever watched play in my lifetime. Everything he did was effective, it made a difference.}

01 Apr 2017 22:29:56
Ed2, who'd win in a fight between lion and a bear?

02 Apr 2017 06:24:45
A bear, like literally every time.

02 Apr 2017 15:12:32
"Ronaldo is the best player I have ever seen" - Clarence Seedorf. I second the motion and agree with your appraisal of O Phenomeno, I also agree that he was selfish on the pitch BUT a caveat was that he did not really have good teams to play with tho I agree that that is my opinion as someone who watched his career from beginning to end. He like Messi, had that nasty mean streak about him too which may explain his selfish attitude on the pitch.

He is actually mentally tougher than Messi and Ronaldinho cos if not, he would never have recovered from his multiple devastating knee injuries, to play and still win titles especially the World Cup in 2002 with one good knee. Again, Ronaldo is the best player I have ever seen in my 35 years of football and IMO, Messi does not come close to him.

02 Apr 2017 16:15:18
I hate it when people call him fat Ronaldo (I'm not disputing that he put a few pounds on. ), I just find it ridiculous considering how incredibly talented he was that people would focus on his weight gain. My fave non Liverpool player ever, I'd have him in my team over that selfish, stroppy ego with the same name any day. Ronaldo was absolute class, such a shame he struggled so much with injuries.

{Ed025's Note - eating couches done him no favours.. :)

01 Apr 2017 18:23:09
A great result and what I feel like was a good performance when it was most important. Everton's defending will get a lot of attention for the second and third goals but both of them were top class.

Coutinho was back to his usual devastating self with the pass for Origi's goal only bested by the run and finish beforehand. Origi did really well in that situation to take the shot on almost immediately as it completely stupefied Robles, with the shot literally travelling over his right shoulder. Poor man.

Today showed all the signs of a good team as although we weren't at 100% all of the time (apart from Lucas perhaps) in the decisive moments we showed that we are the better team, no matter what @RoKo may tweet in fury about Herr Klopp and his band of 'crazy' men tonight around 10:30pm tonight. One word: Boom!

Top performance from the fans in attendance today, especially for a fitting tribute to Ronnie Moran.

If you watched the match it makes it all the more embarrassing. Utd didn't deserve to win at all. A point was a fair result.

02 Apr 2017 15:13:06
Mou's losing it, men. He's losing it.

01 Apr 2017 17:52:59
Great win today, so important as everything is so tight in the top 6 now. I hope Mane's okay!

Sorry about my U23 updates lately, I've been so busy so I haven't got round to posting on here lately.

The only news is that the youngsters reached the final of Premier League Cup on penalties against hull. That was about 10 days ago so sorry everyone for that!
Sit back and enjoy the weekend now reds, and hopefully see our rivals drop some points along the way!

Really winnable games next 4 and with what the other teams have to play we could really kick on for top 4.
Weve got to be ruthless and see these sides off.
Good result today YNWA.

01 Apr 2017 17:41:38
Just got to keep doing our job. Forget everything else including games in hand. They mean nothing. Greay if you win them all but when it starts getting to sqeaky bum time ots better to have the points on the board than in fantasy land.

02 Apr 2017 06:33:01
You're right Ritchie, a win and a draw against city and Everton and then into very winnable matches. It's time for the lads to stand up and deliver against the so called smaller teams. With the other top 4 contenders all set to play each other over the coming weeks it's now or never time. Come on reds, don't blow this!

01 Apr 2017 16:39:35
Great result today, huge win. Thought we really dominated them and suffocated them through the middle. Coutinho was back to his best, what a perfomance. Emre and Lucas both were very good. Not Lovren's biggest fan but he really dominated Lukaku alongside Matip. Clyne needs to be replaced, absolutely awful, so bad on the ball and blocks ever passing lane. Hopefully TAA takes his spot. Praying Mane is okay.

Believable5 Unbelievable8

01 Apr 2017 17:27:01
What did clyne do wrong today that no other player did? Nothing! Yes he made one or two rash challenges and gave the ball away but I don't see anyone complaining about Can doing that? Apart from that clyne was decent today! Put a few good balls into the box too. Undeserved criticism there sakho!

01 Apr 2017 17:38:19
He's so average only his pace saves him, been at fault for several goals this season. Slows down every attack and is dreadful going forward, he'll be replaced in the Summer.

01 Apr 2017 17:50:49
Every attack? Bold statement that. lovren has been at fault for several goals but where's his criticism? He didn't nothing majorly wrong today. But I suppose you'll blame him for the goal we conceded too?

01 Apr 2017 17:57:14
Clyne was not the reason we conceded one today apparently. He offerns nothing up front. His crossing is terrible for an international. How is that we just can't defend any set pieces. It's like the opposition is playing for corners to score one against us.

01 Apr 2017 18:03:31
It is not just about what Clyne does wrong. RedTed21 can you please explain what Clyne actually offers to the team other than pace?

01 Apr 2017 18:28:05
I never said he was a quality player was just stating the fact there was no need to criticise him today. He did nothing wrong had a decent game but still gets criticism his delivery today was failed good but isn't usually this standard. He do agree he should be replaced but no need to criticise him after today's match which sakho was doing.

01 Apr 2017 18:49:12
Redted, there's no agenda here. I don't rate Lovren at all he'll be replaced like Clyne.

01 Apr 2017 18:54:41
I am not basing my opinion only on today's performance RedTed21. You will hardly find any post of mine taking a dig at our players but Clyne simply is not and will never be good enough to take us to forward.

The fact is that fullbacks are one of the most important ingredients in Klopp's setup and Clyne simply does not live up to the standard. The only thing he has got going for him is pace and a good engine. The desire Clyne shows on the pitch is nowhere to be found. You would think that he can improve his game but shows absolutely no intention of doing so. He offers nothing to this team unless you can point out where he was deserving of selection in todays matc irrespective of us winning.

02 Apr 2017 02:45:25
I'm convinced people criticise clyne now because a certain someone doesn't rate him. I know he's not the best fullback going forward but he is decent defensively, and I think people are trying to make RB a priority in the summer when other areas need much more investment than right back. If TAA was given proper opportunities I would be all for him getting a few games there to see if he's ready but he's not, just like Gomez and ojo they aren't getting opportunities and there must be a reason for that. I must say I didn't think clyne was the right back we should have went for when we signed him but he hasn't been as bad as some have made him out to be. On the right you have people attack clyne because he's not that great going forward or can't cross, on the left you have people attack Milner because he gets exposed defensively it's almost like an oxymoron, your damned if you do your damned if you don't. Don't get me wrong sometimes the criticism is justified but sometimes, like today, it's just random nitpicking.

{Ed001's Note - when has decent defensively been good enough when you are crap on the ball? Clyne gets criticised because he is not good enough going forward or defensively. If you are happy with mediocrity, which is what you are describing there in Clyne, then go right ahead and be happy. Liverpool, however, should not be and Clyne is a mediocre right back who is not good enough to get in the England team, let alone our team.}

02 Apr 2017 15:14:31
Kman2, I know Clyne is not good enough. Clyne is not good on the ball, can't cross, is a ball watcher defensively and clearly a FB with that much wrong with his game is good enough for you BUT don't expect us not to push back against your notion. TAA is a much better player than he is and has better end product to his game and can defend.

If he was 3 years older and more experienced, Clyne would be gone. BTW, Klopp disagrees with you as he wanted Clyne replaced last summer.

01 Apr 2017 15:38:55
So where are the Lucas dictators now?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

01 Apr 2017 15:49:14
Everton were crap mate.

01 Apr 2017 15:49:40
They have no place in our democracy lol. You meant 'detractors'.

01 Apr 2017 16:17:28
You cannot accept that Lucas was in control of the game and then go onto to say that Everton were crap when we outclassed them in every aspect.

Everton were not crap, they just had no ideas and Liverpool were the superior team.

So put that on your plate and eat it.

{Ed001's Note - Lucas was excellent and dominated the Everton players. He was a big part of them being 'crap'.}

01 Apr 2017 16:43:14
Sounds nice, Ill put it in the fridge for later.

01 Apr 2017 17:53:23
I am here Max. Thanks for calling me. He played well. I would still play Stewart ahead of him every time if Henderson is out injured.

01 Apr 2017 18:04:46
Why would you stick Stewart ahead of Lucas, Harry? What makes Stewart a better option than Lucas?

01 Apr 2017 18:22:29
Can't we just praise the team for winning the derby - AGAIN 🤠.

01 Apr 2017 18:32:55
Agree Ron don't see why people are putting downers about the team again!

01 Apr 2017 19:47:16
Lucas was excellent, as were Lovren, Can, Wijnaldum and Matip which meant the core of our midfield/ defense were strong.

Coutinho though was the absolute difference. a brilliant goal and excellent assist and looked back to his best. A lesson for all those saying we should sell him - we should never sell our best players if we have any choice.

01 Apr 2017 20:08:42
Three reason Max If you are patient enough.

1. Younger and one for the future If he is truly destined to be the cover for Henderson. A proper out and out stopper who badly needs game. Energetic and has got plenty of legs to run around.

2. Lucas as much as he was bloody good today is severely error prone. Mirrallas running through our entire midfield in the end is one of those examples.

3. Lucas is terribly slow for a midfielder in Klopp's system. Late challenges means free kick in out outside the area. ( we have seen it plenty during this season and last season)
I have seen players running past Lucas plenty this season!

If not today then I don't see him playing any games this season.

I am not a big Stewart fan but He would be gutted not play ahead of a player who is certain to move out in the summer.

Well no complaints from my side as it's the same man who keeps picking Clyne over our own fav TAA.

Lucas is a top class professional and one of the most loyal football player in the country right now. Emotions aside!

01 Apr 2017 23:41:59
why can't people just be happy with a very good win and team performance. I'm not Clyne's biggest fan and agree TAA needs to replace him, but he's done absolutely nothing to deserve the negativity today, everyone did their jobs well. Saying Stewart should have played instead of Lucas?

What? The guy was awesome, was obviously sent out with a clear job of picking up loose balls infront of Lukaku and done it to perfection. Lukaku didn't have a sniff.

Enjoy it for what it is, speak of the positives for a change and look forward to the up and coming games!

01 Apr 2017 15:28:33
Yano what i loved about today.

Neville comments when can tried to burst past jags.

Neville when you get them in your older days your thinking "oh no"

Just reminded me there humans not robots.

Funny that its going through there head like the fans when something like ronaldo would square up to carra. Where going oh no and so is he. Haha ticked me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Apr 2017 15:35:27
Phil Neville should stick to what he knows best. Dreaming of what he achieved at UTD. Gary is a much better commentator.

01 Apr 2017 15:56:13
Both pillocks if you ask me. lol.

01 Apr 2017 17:06:57
Bit complimentary there canadian.

01 Apr 2017 20:06:20
Do even like Gary as a pundit to be honest. I think he is utterly out of touch with the modern game. Most of what the Neville brothers come out with only sounds good because they speak with passion and constantly cite their playing careers as if it gives there points a legitimacy.

You only have to look at their coaching records to see how totally clueless both of them are. Being a good player doesn't make you knowledgeable about football and it certainly doesn't make you a good coach or manager. To be honest, Phil wasn't even a good player either. It is not even club bias that makes me say this; Collymore, J. Redknapp, Murphy, Owen and McManaman are probably worse than the Neville's!

Top 3 pundits on English TV for me are Thierry Henry, Ruud Gullit and Jamie Carragher.

01 Apr 2017 15:27:52
Everton players were keen to show James Bond that they are tough too but they forgot that he, like Liverpool players, is also skilful.

Believable14 Unbelievable0

01 Apr 2017 15:30:33
Liverpool mean business mate. The pressure on UTD has increased 10 fold now, especially with all their injuries and suspension of Zlatan.

Music to a Liverpool fans ears.

01 Apr 2017 14:34:54
So my take on the game. Origi, take a bow son! Mane, please give us good news that you are not injured.

Matip and Lovren, two towers who did not take any sh*te. More of that please.

Lucas you beauty. Would not surprise me if Klopp switches to a midfield two now of Can and Lucas should Mane be injured. Both these players were monsters today.

Barkley is a dirty bugger. He is lucky to not been sent off for the challenge on Can and what a pathetic tackle on Lovren. Disgrace.

Coutinho was a demon. Firmino showed why he is our most important player.

Everton simply ran out of ideas and what a save by Mignolet who had virtually nothing to do throughout the match.

Bottom line, Klopp simply outclassed Koeman tactically today. 3 points. Come on you REDS. Top 4 is there for the taking!

Believable13 Unbelievable0

01 Apr 2017 14:46:10
Oh and banging on about Clyne. He is useless to say the least. I would bring in TAA any day of the week for Nathaniel. How Clyne is still starting matches is beyond logic. I know I am moaning about him but he simply offers f all to the cause. The sooner we are rid of him the better for TAA.

01 Apr 2017 14:58:57
We have a great chance for top 4 especially as on paper our run in is easier than United's, city's etc, still a long way to go but today was a huge result.

01 Apr 2017 15:11:16
Funny enough, the win at Everton earlier this season made me say that it would be our most important 3 points of the season. We are now level on points with Spurs so things are looking really good for us. What an improvement we have seen this season under Klopp compared to last season.

We should be thankful that Klopp decided to join Liverpool as I see big things for us next season. Fingers crossed.

01 Apr 2017 15:36:08
TAA looks so assured for someone so young oozing confidence maybe a future captain . Hopefully Manè injury isn't too serious TAA might be the answer to fill in temporarily. Thought Lovren and Lucas were immense today and Origi was well up for it Today.

01 Apr 2017 17:53:56
Klopp said meme's injury doesn't look good, massive blow if he's out for any length of time.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks Max.}

01 Apr 2017 08:31:55
Busy watching the 98/ 99 Derby at Anfield. Steve McManaman has to be one of my all time favourite Liverpool players. He had absolutely everything. Vision, passing, the best dribbler of a football, pace, deadly finisher and scored some of the most mind blowing goals I have ever seen.

Then there is Fowler, one of the most natural finishers you will ever find. Patrick Berger, pity things did not turn out well for him as he was another great player who's career went down the pan because of injuries.

Those oversize football kits where ghastly though. Players ended up swimming in their tops.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - macca was very good but never produce it at international level, i suppose the same could be said for robbie but he was a great player and one of the most natural finishers i have ever seen..

01 Apr 2017 08:51:29
International football has to be the most irritating thing for majority of football fans. Whether Macca was good or mediocre for England does not really matter. Who cares how well England do?

He went on to have a successful career when he left Anfield and I was pretty miff with his departure. Top player!

{Ed025's Note - running his contract down left a bit of a sour taste max but the guy was certainly talented mate..

01 Apr 2017 13:16:19
Lots of people care about England. I've never understood why people can't enjoy both club and country.

01 Apr 2017 06:42:25
I am pumped up for the Derby. Watching the seconds tick by!

Must win today. Get beaten and we could very well kiss our target of a top 4 finish goodbye. This is a 6 pointer with UTD and Everton breathing down our necks.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - these games are always too cagey max, expect a boring 0-0 draw or a sneaky 1-0 for somebody..

01 Apr 2017 07:02:38
Derby matches are not supposed to be pretty yet they always seem to bring the animal out of everyone. The team which does not turn up today though will be the losers.

{Ed025's Note - injuries to key players from both teams will be a factor for me max, i hope im wrong but i see a lack of quality in both teams mate..

01 Apr 2017 07:20:04
Coleman is a massive loss for Everton, much of a bigger loss than Lallana for Liverpool. Henderson has been out for a while but reckon Everton's injuries could see Koeman having to make quite a few tactical changes which could complicate things for them.

Form and quality not going to matter today. Bragging rights the be all and end all of Derby matches.

Klopps decision about what to do with Llalana and Hendo both out will be the key I think - does he go defensive and put in Stewart or Lucas (pushing Can forward to provide physicality but limit creativity) or go for Origi upfront and push Coutinho back into LM (my preference) . One other less likely option which I would be OK with is Clyne to LB, TAA at RB and Milner in midfield.

That is what I think will determine the pattern of the game and I suspect he may go for safety first and bring in Lucas or Stewart and push Can forward which could make the game a bit more of a battle in midfield.
