Did Jurgen call raheem graham?

I think he did lol. Could just be the accent but it definitely sounded like Graham.

He definitely called him graham! Ha
Good news about Sakho at the end!

Who's going to take the new login "Graham Sterling" 😄.

Think the best line in that was "this is football so there is a chance and that is all I need" I think this is a fantastic attitude to have!

"its normal that former players play against their old clubs"

classic - he must sit there and think "how thick are these reporters? "

ED001, Do you see Rositer taking the back up role for lucas and learning the position. Or would you rather buy a defensive midfielder in the summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - personally I think Chirivella is the player for that role and no need to buy. Rossiter is better with more freedom.}

19 Nov 2015 13:47:14
Hey eds01, I saw that in a previous reply u said that u will be satisfied with Ward in goal.
My question was that is he really that good. Because I have not seen him play aside from YouTube. and he has never been mentioned among the best prospects.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I really like him. I think he has the potential to be a number one, he just needs to be given the chance to show it.}

19 Nov 2015 15:02:47
Thanks mate.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate, fingers crossed he gets in and proves me right!}

19 Nov 2015 17:16:10
Ed1 is Ward producing the goods for Aberdeen then mate? Also are the club trying to tie Sinclair down to a new contract? As the club hold him in high regard don't they?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes and yes.}

19 Nov 2015 19:08:54
Ed1 I see also that Brad Smith is back at the club, good enough to challenge Moreno for a first team place? Surely a better option than Enrique?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he had a lot of potential, we just have to hope it has not been stymied by missing out on first team football recently.}

20 Nov 2015 14:35:09
I'm hoping it will teach him a tough lesson that a player is not bigger than the club and to not push his luck in the future. I think it's a good example to all the upcoming young talent we have that if they tow the line they can have a future but if they feel they are bigger then they actually are then they will be dropped full stop. A rare thing but I'm Proud of how the club conducted itself in this matter.

Pleased to see Brad Smith has signed a new contract. Maybe he'll finally get some gametime under Klopp. Haven't seen much of him in the last year but if he's still the same player he was, Moreno might finally have legitmate competition for his place instead of an overweight Twitter addict and an 18 year old centre back.

On the Liverpool Echo site, there is a list of 22 players who will be available for 'free' in the summer. They are not saying Liverpool are going for any of them, but imagine a starting 11 made up of some of them! Zlatan to LFC anyone. ha.

I know this thread is a bit of fun but there is a serious point. The thing is, fans are crying out for youth to be brought through and yet we want to sign all these mature professionals.
The 2 approaches are mutually exclusive in my opinion. At least there needs to be balance.
Sheyi Ojo is just one who needs to be given an opportunity and that won't happen if we keep signing players.
We need strategy going forward, whether that means bringing through youth or not there needs to be more joined-up thinking.

Agree8 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - Ron stop making sense with your comments! There is no place for sensible footie fans on the internet, you know that....}

19 Nov 2015 11:14:28
The academy has also cut numbers from the U-9's up to the U-21's from 240 to under 200, with Inglethorpe saying more cuts will be made. they are trying to have more 'quality over quantity' to push more academy players through. makes sense in my mind, talented players playing with equally talented players only improves them.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is about time that happened, more coaches to less players is the way to go.}

19 Nov 2015 11:22:50
Sorry Ed, I think I must be coming down with something.

Agree5 Disagree0

19 Nov 2015 11:50:20
Ed, what is our Academy like these days? How do we compare with the rest of the PL teams? I know Carras lad is in there, what are the thoughts of the coaches on him, and any other players/former players kids in there?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The obvious way to draw a comparison is to look at performances of the U21s, the U18s etc. against the other sides and in competition over the past couple of years - it will be a reasonable guide. I don't have the time to do it but I am sure others would appreciate the results - it will be interesting. Any volunteers?}

19 Nov 2015 12:38:30
Ed002 said he/she will be forever in your debt to whoever does it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you can't compare academies by results on the pitch, only by the quality of the players it brings through.}

Liverpool U21s

2012-13: 3 groups from which the top 2 or 3 teams would qualify for the phase 2 where teams would again play each other from which the top 4 would qualify for the semi-finals.

Finished top at 1st phase group stage (W9 D3 L0) in a group that contained Chelsea (3rd) and Man City (7th) and qualified to the 2nd phase of the tournament where they finished behind Spurs and Man Utd in 3rd place (W6 D4 L4), before losing to Man Utd 3-0 in the semi final in a tournament that Man Utd won against Spurs in the final.

Total: W15 D7 L5 GF53 GA34 (2nd highest scorers in the whole tournament behind Spurs (82))

2013-14: Finished 2nd behind Chelsea in a 22 team league where each team played once against each other either home OR away. The top 4 finishing teams would play in a semi-final where Liverpool lost to Man Utd again 1-0, in a tournament Chelsea won in the final against Man Utd.

Total: W13 D3 L6 GF55 GA31 (Top scorers in the division)

2014-15: Two divisions with 12 teams in each division. Liverpool were in the "top" division with Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Southampton etc. Arsenal strangely not good enough to be included in the first division and played int he 2nd division.

Liverpool finished 2nd behind Man Utd in a home and away leg.

Total: W11 D3 L8 GF45 GA35 (2nd highest scorers behind Man City (50))

2015-16: Similar format to the previous season. Liverpool are currently struggling and sit 10th in a 12 team top division which is difficult to judge as some teams have played fewer times and some teams have played more times at this point. (Sunderland top, Spurs 2nd, Man City 5th, Everton 6th, Chelsea 8th, Man Utd 9th) .

Current total: W1 D2 L4 GF7 GA13

Liverpool U21s have done really well over the past 3 seasons and was among the best in the country while they brought through the likes of Sterling, Ibe, Suso, Tex through to the first team while plenty have been loaned out. While Liverpool have always gradually introduced players from U18s to U21s over the course of the season, Perhaps they have loaned out too many players this season (12 players currently out on loan from the U21s) as they are struggling now and have a very large contingent playing for the U21s who are being promoted from the U18s. Also, previously they got together and kept a core group of players for the U21s level for 2-3 seasons with the exceptional players stepping up (Sterling, Ibe, Suso as examples), but this season, players who were promoted into the U21s last season are already loaned out after one season (Kent, Wilson, Canos, Ojo etc), and that has certainly had an impact on their league performance too.

Agree8 Disagree0

19 Nov 2015 13:15:20
But isn't what Ed002 is saying a comparison of the quality of teams academies by comparing the head to head results over several years? Though that won't compare individuals quality I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but it has no relevance. The only job of an academy is to produce players to play for the first team. Results are irrelevant and are one of the issues that has held back English football, because the youth teams were all about winning matches, rather than producing the best players for the future.}

19 Nov 2015 13:54:20
How do we marry cultivating good players and winning? Oops. its been question of ages.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we managed it for years. The problem is that we spent a while focusing on winning at the wrong level. Everything should be geared around the first team winning matches.}

19 Nov 2015 14:11:33
Could you include the Under-9's now AG. haha. Good work. Interesting reading, goals have dried up this season by the looks of it. See what you're saying Ed001, I guess the only way to compare is see how many each PL team has brought through over the last so many years. But that still doesn't give a true comparison as I imagine teams like Bournemouth etc use more academy players due to stricter budgets. On a very basic level Ed, would you say our academy, in your opinion has improved since the like of Owen came through?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - All academies have improved immensely in recent years due to investment. The facilities are musch improved and academies produce good players - just not that many who make it at the higher level clubs.}

19 Nov 2015 15:00:15
If and big if, if Ibrahimovic is willing to do the "Henrik Larrson" role like it was for manU, it will be awesome even if it is 1 season. Imagine able to call him Ibrahimovic as impact sub.

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed002's Note - And who would pay his signing on fee and wages?}

19 Nov 2015 21:15:04
Henrik Larrson Role? He's still one of THE top forwards in Europe.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Nov 2015 07:14:14
Lee - you marry winning with cultivating players by having a strategy. Forward planning. For years we have just splurged tens of millions of pounds on players when our youth players had the opportunity to come through and do a better job with a bit of patience.
The transfer window doesn't help plus the short term nature of managerial appointments. However, we need to stop indulging managers in my opinion. New signings have to be able to fill a gaping hole in the squad and that needs to be thoroughly tested. I think the owners/chairman needs to get tough.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have said for years the transfer window is one of the worst things to happen to football. It makes it difficult to place faith in youngsters, as you can't wait and see how they get on before making a decision on whether to bring in a player. You have to make that choice immediately, as otherwise the option to buy is gone. Very few managers will take a chance on the youth players, as their future is also dependent on performances.}

20 Nov 2015 10:27:03
Its less about the windows and more about the fan, media and owner pressure on managers.

A young player has about 2/3 games and that's being kind for them to shine.

Also a lot of us would now but what's the feeling on the next example

Finish 6 with Sinclair up front, Tex cam, branno cm.

Finish 4 with benteke up front, firmino cam, can cm

Finish 2 with lacazette up front, firmini cam, gubdogan cm

Now one is patience with youth the other is patience with the current group and the other is immediate success.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - you are missing the point, it is because of the windows that the pressure is magnified. The young players have only 2 or 3 games to shine because they have such a short period to replace them. So your whole post is agreeing with what I said, but without understanding why.}

19 Nov 2015 08:25:42
Eds,
If funds become available what positions would you like to see filled/ or a back up brought in.
And secondly who would you like to see brought in, obviously taking the amount of funds we'd likely have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the defence is the weak point for me, I would be happy with Ward in goal, and Smith is fine as a back up left back now he has signed a new contract. Right back is a worry for me, Wisdom I like, but I still remain unconvinced by Clyne, but it is not the priority. Centre half is the main weak spot. Skrtel has improved under Klopp, but I would still like to see an improvement brought in, plus we defo need cover for Sakho.

As for who, I am really not sure, I have not seen anyone who stood out recently.}

19 Nov 2015 09:29:16
I take it if we need cover for Sakho, you would like Lovren gone 001?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - no, I would like him to step up and prove himself over the course of the season, but I don't think it is going to happen, sadly.}
