Don't think Roy learnt much from that shambles tonight- we knew England were an average team and it was proved tonight. Sturridge looked tired towards the end and I hope he recovers by Sat lunchtime.
Also hope Gerrard is fully fit

Sakho. Rock solid at d back. scores a brace. puts his side in d world cup. he has to be one of the prefered cb for france
don't see why d arsenal guy should be ahead of him

on another note. sakho is indeed a monster. with such a stellar performance I doubt he will be on d bench dis saturday

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So drop our best center back this year in skertel for him or vice captain both who played well last match

Agree0 Disagree0

Superb offensive and defensive display by Sakho tonight and was voted MOTM. I think he should replace Skrtel on Saturday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Do u remember how easily lukaku manhandled agger last time out.
don't gt me wrong, agger is one of my fav player. and by no means i'm suggesting that he should be droped. neither m I suggesting that our best defender dis year should be droped. bt when someone puts in a performance in such a crucial game. its hard to ignore.
i have dis feeling that rogers will play a 3-5-2 again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agger and Skrtel got bullied time and time again last season by the likes of Lukaku and Benteke.
To not play Sakho against Lukaku would be irresponsible.
It's my opinion we bought a powerhouse centre half to nullify the big lumps threat.
I also think Sakho vs Lukaku will be a key battle on the pitch. If we can keep him out of the game, Everton will struggle z
I expect a 3-5-2, to accommodate Sakho.

Agree0 Disagree0

We shouldn't alter a formation that has just brought us our biggest win of the season so far, and out first clean sheet since September.
Just because Sakho had a good game for France doesn't mean we need to accommodate him.
Sterling scored 2 for the under 21's last night, should we drop somebody to make room for him after one good game?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeno what we have toure sakho both trying to get into the team its a headache for Rogers this weekend at the back but as a fan its nice to see

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay91 do u think that Everton away and Fulham at home is the same affair?
sterling scored 2 in a game where everyone knew England will crush san marino
sakho in such a crunch situation led his team in d world cup wit a motm display

Agree0 Disagree0

All I know is that in our crunch game against Arsenal Sakho was caught out of position for their first goal, because he rushed out of the back line. And he has done it before (Swansea game).
I don't think Sakho has been bad since he joined us but he hasn't been a rock like Toure and he certainly hasn't looked like a £17 million CB just yet although I do realise its early.
If we wanted to change the defence to deal with Lukaku's power then Toure would be the man to go to in my opinion.
But I would still keep a back 4 rather than a back 3 as we look more comfortable in that formation and it has brought us the most clean sheets.
If we play 3-5-2 Everton will get in behind us in the wide positions as they play with wide forwards and only 1 recognised striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we play 352 we will get bullied and let's face it, it's not 352 it's 532 because when we play that formation all we do is defend.

Just something that I was thinking of so not a rumour. I wonder how long it
will be before players will sign sort term contract with teams who will pay them the most money? A peculiar one I know eds. I mean like bounty hunter. Stupid quote and question I know. {Ed002's Note - The rules prevent it happening.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was just thinking about it cause some of the wages these days are huge! Then I had the idea of rent a player! Please don't take much notice of the question eds.

Agree0 Disagree0

How long? It will be a very long time.
I can only see 2 or 3 clubs benefitting so don't expect a rule change to allow it.

Loss of form, injury etc. a player will end up out of work potentially paying his own medical bills. Can't see many agents going for it either.

Heard a great bit of news this morning. Steven Gerrard will continue to play for Liverpool for another three years and be a coach at Liverpool. Can you shed any light on this please eds? {Ed002's Note - I am not aware that any such agreement has been reached. It would strike me as a very naïve move by the club if it were true.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Was it not long ago that gerrard signed some sort of lifetime contract with the club? Not sure of the details but I would guess it would be some sort of ambassadorial role after he retires. Can you shed any light ed? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about. He is contracted as a footballer for a while and they might extend it at some point. As for the future it has zero to do with his contract as a player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I remember something about that guarateed ambassadorial role when he's done playing aswell.

Good evening everyone:) just wanted to share with you that Luis Suarez will be back at Liverpool on Thursday afternoon after John W. Henry offered his private jet to pick him up so he is back almost a day and a half earlier to get ready for the derby in time:) Good news. Hopefully Gerrard & Sturridge are fine after tonight and we will be in a good position to beat everton.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If true, well played Mr. Henry, that doesn't come cheap. Hope Suarez gets a hat trick, on Saturday.

Agree0 Disagree0

Considering Suarez's wages are about 15k per day, having him home a day and a half early is a shrewd move by JWH.

Eds reds was just wondering who's better

Will Hughes or James ward Prowse

Just love to know everyones opinion

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Living in Southampton, I can vouch for Ward-Prowse being a solid young player. He's composed and is very good with set pieces. If Hughes is close to that, I'd think that if we got him we'd have signed a good player.

Ed001, do you happen to know how Coady is getting on? {Ed001's Note - not particularly well so far, he struggled to break into the first team there, and they were struggling so he was never able to really play to his strengths. Hopefully he can establish himself under Nigel Clough, as David Weir was unable to get anyone playing well for him. I would think this loan move could be good for his mental strength, if nothing else, as it is completely different from what he is used to.}

Will Alberto, Illori, Yesil and Aspas ever be given a proper chance in the first team?
Will Hughes looks a great prospect, but that's all it is at moment, a great prospect. He may well turn into a fantastic player (I hope, hope and hope) but don't we need strengthening the first team? I trust BR but we keep buying players for the future and not now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thats Ok, If they come in Cheap, But we keep paying pretty hih money, I thnk it would cost us 15 mill to land Hughes.
Necessary?

Agree0 Disagree0

The main problem with people like will hughes is that it will inevitably be a gamble. he could either be an expensive flop or someone that everyone cries out we missed out on if someone else pays the price tag and he turns out to be great.

alberto & illori wl have to be patient for their chance as the team is 2nd in the league at the moment and we are out of the carling cup. aspas was given his chance until he got injured.

in BR I trust!

We could have bought Christian Ronaldo for five million pounds but we didn't. Sometimes you have to take a gamble.

Agree0 Disagree0

They have a chance every week. If they impress in training they will get picked to play. If they don't, then they don't deserve a place in the team.

Competition for places is healthy.

Will Hughes looks a great prospect. Looks like he has the right mental strength to succeed unlike some non-British players who are more of a gamble as they often don't settle.

Looking forward to the derby sat. but also Suso against Real Madrid sat night on sky 7pm. I think he will be a much improved player when he returns in the summer.

Hi guys.
So it looks like Hughes is nailed on for January, I'm just a bit worried that were blowing our money, a bit like Benitez did, buying unproven players for a lot of money hoping they turn into the next coutinho. Anyone else feel the same? I trust Rodgers completely, obviously he sees Hughes as an outstanding prospect otherwise there's noway the club would spend 12m on him. But my point is 6m Alberto 8m aspas 12m Hughes, that's 25m spent on guys who are not going to improve the starting 11 atall. (Right now).

I'm just thinking were in a good position, we've started strongly, why not add to it by bringing in someone who can really improve us, and push us on to be right up there with the city's and the arsenals. Instead of blowing 25m on guys who won't really be ready for another 3 years.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I take your point, but also see that 25m on 3 players now, could become 50m in a few years. Then again, it could also become 10m. On the three players you've mentioned, I see Aspas as the biggest risk, and the oldest. I like Alberto and would love to see him get a few starts at home to the "weaker" teams. We need to trust that BR sees enough in Hughes to splash the cash, assuming he will. You mentioned us competing with Arsenal, have you forgotten the cash spent on really young players by Wenger over the years? Often, they were in the junior and reserve teams for quite some time. If I had my choice of Alberto plus Aspas plus Hughes for 25m, or 35m on Willian, I know which way I'd go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well as long as Rodgers has the same success as Rafa i'm sure the owners won't be too fused.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't get the Benitez reference. When did he waste money on unproven players? I think that's a poor reference.
Let's not forget the Rafa/Parry combo refused to 'waste' 18 million on an unproven teenager called Sergio Aguero before he went to Atletico.
Hughes looks very good to me. He has great vision and a great touch/technique. Looks like a Paul Scholes type player IMO but I haven't seen his tackling. He'll do well playing for Rodgers team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rafa wasted a lot of money on unproven and poor players. There is nothing wrong with that reference.

Agree0 Disagree0

Insua, Josemi, Kromkamp, El Zhar, Degen, Ngog, Babel, Paletta.
Rafa did waste money, they were gambles that never paid off

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Nov 2013 12:55:20
Rafa did got us some real quality players, And most of our bet payers in past 10 years belongs o rafa era.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats because the majority of the last 10 years WERE the Rafa era

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not sure if you can count insua, kromkamp, el zhar, degen, ngog or paletta as wasting a lot of money. as far as I can remember degen was free, ngog cost about £1mil, paletta £2mil, kromkamp similar (not sure if eds can put weight behind this?)

babel was an expensive mistake but everyone could see the frightening potential he had, he is just one of those players who didn't realise it, it happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

I see your point 87red and I did consider that before I posted, but I think that as fans we need to realise that there is a lot more money going into transfers than we realise.
Even if Degen (as an exampe) was a free, then he would be on inflated wages because of this, with a big signing on fee and bonuses.
Insua was here for a while so we have paid his contract for a few seasons, we have probably subsidised his wages when he was on loan then got no transfer fee when he left.
I am a big Benitez supporter but I do agree that he made a lot of bad buys as well as the great players he bought.
My criticism of him was that he always bought too many players each summer, rather than one or two world class players

Agree0 Disagree0

Aquilani and keane where very expensive flops by rafa. You could say he overpaid for Johnson as we'll but he's not a flop. One big problem of rafas was he brought in just far too many players, it's all very we'll saying they are prospects but we seemed to have so many that we couldn't actually develop them properly.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take all the crap players Rafa bought (and the good ones) for the success he brought us. Look at the whole picture, not just part of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Didn't rafa bring in Alonso, luis garcia, torres, glen johnson, reina, mascherano?. the only mistake he did in my eyes was selling Alonso, and wanted barry, which didn't go tho. which was a big mistake and made us go down in a stepping stone very dramatically.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do people try to justify current signings that add no-little value to the starting 11 with similar signings in the past by previous managers? BR doesn't get a by because rafa did the same in his day. it doesn't work like that.

The only way signing Hughes will work is if Allen and Aspas are sold and we have a £40m Net spending allowance so we can buy el Shaarawy and Mohamed Salah. After all we are pushing for champions league it would be an act of miss management not to use our current campaign as a means to attract world class talent and spend (on good players) while we can

Hughes £12m, Mohamed Salah £15m, el Shaarawy £25m (future Suarez replacement.) reported fee's suggested by media.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate Rafa made lots of mistakes in the window, as has mourinho, ferguson and any coach. Rafa bought us success and some fantastic players but the football at times was woeful on the eye and although he renovated the academy he did block the path into the first team. End of the day he is a great manager but he did in a way destroy what he built with his poor relationships with the players.

The 2 new Spanish under 18's look great, add that to around 4-5 potential first teamers in the under 21's the future is very bright for the reds, YNWA

Been reading that Adam Morgan is to be released on a free. This initially came as shock to me as he was touted as a potential future star, however the more I think about it, it is probably the best for him to seek a new challenge as he seems to have stagnated in the last 18 months. Think if he was going to break into the first team he would have done it by now. I know he has had chances with the first team, albeit limited and been out on loan but he never quite seemed to have that "wow" factor to me. Thanks Adam and good luck for the future, now go and prove LFC were wrong to release you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was confident he would be let go in the future. He had not developed as much as people around him who are making bigger strides. Its best for him to realize his potential somewhere else and a make a good career of himself. All the best!
