There are so many rumours going around which ones are actually even a slight possibility, it's not possible they all are?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And it's only may! I'd say the World Cup will prove a nice distraction but we will just have all the bellends saying go for this person or that person after watching 1 match. Me included ;-)

Ayre said there will be a very different squad next season, maybe he ment he will work somewhere else :p!

Agree0 Disagree0

We got second this season.
Next season this young squad will be a year more experienced an the manager a year wiser.
I'm not worried who we bring in, the squads not too shabby.
Going to enjoy the World Cup :)

{Ed002's Note - Do you think Brendo will start losing his hair? Have you noticed how Brendo is losing weight but his nose keeps on growing at an alarming rate?}

Sorry ed not noticed his nose, I just can't look past them new teeth. Haha

This has not been the most ridiculous summer for rumours.

We are interested in Can (although we haven't made a bid at this time), Parejo & Lallana (a bid roughly at half of SHFCs asking price has been rejected) thus far.

I can't find out for sure who the target for LB is as we haven't actually made any solid enquiries for a while. Bertrand was of interest, however that has likely waned.

The wide forward position is just as up in the air at the moment. Konoplyanka was of significant interest in January, but we will likely pursue other players this summer as it'll be difficult to get him halfway through the season in Ukraine. I would not be surprised if we rehash interest in Sanchez as he is available, or perhaps Tello as per Ed002.

Hello Eds and Reds,

Many articles in the press this year have featured Liverpool players talking about how much Dr. Peters, their Psychiatrist, has helped them and their game play. I am just curious on the future role of Sports Psychologists in football and sports. Do many teams have them, and are they something the players want in their org. or is it the club providing them?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Some teams use them - it suits some players not others. I know several players who would benefit from a psychiatrist. I recall Dr Steve made an appearance on #WonderDogSparky not too long ago.}

I wonder what a psychiatrist would make of Mario Balotelli and his antics

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I understand that many of the Liverpool players were surprised he didn't want to examine their feet when he arrived.}

19 May 2014 22:03:15
If the players read these pages after a draw or god forbid a loss they must need a psychiatrist!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - At least their feet will be healthy.}

19 May 2014 23:45:12
i didn't know a foot-rub was part of a psychiatrist's job prescription ;) Hehe, or is it?

{Ed002's Note - The Liverpool players are not the brightest.}

Good evening Ed

Any update please on anything what so ever as regards to incoming players at all?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The transfer window isn't open. Surely you are happy with Can and Carvalho already having signed and talks progressing about Hazard?}

Lol yes more than happy with them 3 especially in the close window
I really really want Tello though.

I wish I knew what you know Ed
infact I wish I was you at times.

Cheers Ed ill have a look fella, keep up the good work and do tell when you can. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Are you related to Dezi Arnez?}

Never seen that appreciation site before, just had a look, some absolute crackers on there, you should get your own stand up show.

Got me curious with the reference Ed, just looked him up on youtube. What a pair, him and Lucille, best of American/(Cuban), seen clips before of I love Lucy but never really gave it much time, my mistake. As for the appreciation society, highly, highly recommend to everyone. Had tears rolling down my cheeks with some of the comments/replies. Respect, keep up the good work Ed, brightens up my day.

Good evening Ed

How are you bearing up under the strain and Lallana/can questions every few minutes? Do you, like me try and not drink alcohol during the weekdays a and wait for Saturday night?

Well I've cracked allready mate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am on the road right now drinking the Hilton's complementary gin.}

You mean to say there's no complementary gin in the LFC rumours office?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You mean the Liverpool Rumours Half Way House. The Child Detention Service frown upon alcohol.}

19 May 2014 20:12:37
Are we interested in Stefan de Vrij?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - May well be heading to Italy. I assume you are just finding players on some fantasy football game and asking at random.}

No ed he has been linked with us over the years and yet again this season on the newsnow site his name pops up a lot from the sites they use and also I am not on twitter or Facebook or fantasy football sites far to busy nice cheap shot though that free gin kicking in at the Hilton

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Newsnow is nothing more than a news feed. Other sides will run with one story and it looks like it is appearing everywhere. An example will be Bild running a story saying that "Emre Can had signed for Liverpool" gave us the usual collective orgasm. It has been confirmed that Liverpool have not even spoken to his club about him.

However, a year ago Liverpool spoke with Feyenoord about the availability of the De Vrij and a suggested figure for a transfer was well above what Liverpool would consider paying and no offer was made,. If interest remains in De Vrij, I don't know about it.}

19 May 2014 19:42:46
Hi eds just a looking for a quick update do you believe(think) we have now dropped our interest in lallana and have now moved on to other targets due to the asking price or is there still a chance haven't heard owt in a while really got my hopes up bout this 1 again jus like salah and kono thanks a lot for all the work lads

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The window is not even open yet.}

19 May 2014 19:42:28
Feeling the excitement of new additions and the fever us reds love every year, as do all clubs, let's slow things to the present and be mindfull.

The buddhist would say a man who holds a lantern needs to move slowly, aware of his decision, to light up his path. The unwise would rush before his route is illuminated thus follow the wrong road.

Hi eds.
I know there is not a lot of chance, but this is what I think a great transfer window would be:
Transfer fund = 70 million
PLAYERS OUT:
Reina (5 million)
Agger (15 million)
Assaidi (7 million)
Lucas (10 million)
Aspas (3 million)
Alberto (2 million)

Total transfer fund = 112 million

PLAYERS IN:
Emre Can (10 million)
Alexis Sanchez (18 million)
Thomas Muller (30 million)
Lallana + Lovren (40 million)
Alberto Moreno (14 million)

Overall money = 0 million

What do you think the chances are for this to happen (or at least some of the players)? Who is the most likely to sign out of these? Is Muller a possibility?

Thanks in advance,
LFCRED

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I think you Math needs some help.}

I think he just needs help!

Agree0 Disagree0

My maths is fine? 112-112=0?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Why not increase the transfer fund to £100M and then make £30M profit on the summer - or why not go all out and increase it to £150M and make £80M profit - will look great for FFP. I assume you haven't been listening at school?}

19 May 2014 21:16:23
this was great fun:) first off mate, just a question, where would you play Sanchez, Muller, Lallana, Sturridge, Suarez, Sterling, in the same team? Or would Sturridge & Suarez move to the bench? haha

When we sell a player, let's say Agger for 10 million he would have payments owed to him by the club and a % of the fee. So around 25 % of that fee is gone into Agger & his agents pockets.

Then when we buy players we have to pay a lot of taxes pluss very expensive agent and signing on fees which are around 20% of any transfer fee.

If we sell players for 50 million and buy players for 50 million it doesn't equal 0

It means around 37 million in and 60 million out which in reality much bigger than 0, actually 23 million dollhairs more than 0.

And why do we have a 70 million transfer budget? That is a number taken out of thin air as eds has said we never have a fixed budget.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This is a prime example of why we do not discuss finances - I believe the technical term for what you have written is "bollocks".}

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Day release is a tough thing to predict. He can't afford the coffee inside Costa and it is a patchy connection outside.}

19 May 2014 23:30:50
hilarious site. but I don't use that stuff, and since when do we discuss finances,?

i read on the saints page or sunderland page a while back about clubs having to pay 25% of any fees they recive to the players and there agents of remaining wages, signing on fees etc. And we pay fees and taxes of at least 10% when buying players so I thought I would give it a try, obviously I shouldnt, my bad! and ed001 doesn't like me I think:/ because I don't think Mignolet sucks and defend him because I used to be a GK and it's not easy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No man - it is not like that - way, way off the truth. Ed001 likes all young Liverpool supporters. Actually just young guys generally.}

I have a feeling i'll be shot down for this, but I really think (no really!) that we should think about brining James Milner in. He manages to get better every year, even though he seems to get less and less playing time. He changes games and right now, we don't have anyone on the bench who can do that. I know he's perhaps a little older for the $10m or so he might cost, but I think he'd be a VERY good acquisition for us.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with you on milner. I think he could cover several positions, has tons of experience esp. in the Champions League. Milner and Hendo in the middle would be very strong. always seems to put in a great shift.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ready.

Take aim.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 19:16:38
I rate Milner, And he would be a great addition. Anything under 10 mill would be a steal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with all of you, Milner ould be a great addition, much needed experience in all comps and works incredibly hard for the team

Agree0 Disagree0

Great' squad player. Quailty addition.to bring on but isn't he.leaving city for first team football? For that reason, not.likely

Agree0 Disagree0

Milner is a top top player would only add to our team may finally start a few games also for us

Agree0 Disagree0

He's in the "players I like but wouldn't want at Liverpool" category.

I must have missed the last 4 years he was improving.

hi eds just a quick question,

if lallana want to come to us at no matter what, could he then force the saints to accept our bid, I know it won't happen but can he go on strike untill he is let go, thanks for any answer as I know you are all busy this time of the year

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is the close season, how would they know he is on strike?}

Hidden camera?

Agree0 Disagree0

Straight answer is "no" he can't force a transfer.
He won't go on strike either because then it becomes a battle of wills and a player who wants a transfer won't want bad publicity, labelled with a bad attitude, unprofessional and trouble maker. They also won't want a spell in the reserves as that does nothing for your value and ability.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 19:17:51
Downing did hand a TR, So As Suarez, RVP and Most.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes you can hand in a transfer request like Suarez and Rooney did last summer.
Doesn't mean jack if the club don't want to sell.

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course if he went on strike then he would be no better than Mascherano. Or what if Suarez done it? If he comes great, if he doesnt? Then move on.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Suarez has done it before and also taken a club to court.}

Was the club that Suarez took to court the one he was at before Ajax? I think Groningen is their name or something.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Right.}

There is a lot of false assumptions in this post!
Lallana has not said he wants to join LFC. He has said he wants to play CL, but he also said he would like to do that with Saints. Remember he is captain at Saints and such statements are not made without consideration of the current contract negotiations between MoPo and the board. The players are desperate for MoPo to stay as they see the squad as our version of the class of 92 and see that he can add strength and success to the team and help them fulfil their potential, which they view as top 4. Equally, a fee, if he was for sale, would be set by Saints and the media suggested fees DO NOT COME FROM SAINTS! What would Saints value him at? Difficult one because we have a newly formed board and they may turn out to be "persons" but I suspect not, and the old board would have placed a value akin to Mata-so I suspect you are a long way adrift. Don't waste time knocking this valuation, it is about right IMO and if the club set that they would have no need to accept less, and stories about him being unhappy would be laughed at.

I have posted before that if MoPo stays at Saints there has been a club statement that he WILL NOT be asked or expected to sell any players he wants to keep and he will get a budget to strengthen the squad. Yes, he could say I want a bigger budget so I will sell one of my high value payers to achieve that-but not his captain who he has recently compared to Iniesta!

Of course all this could change if MoPo leaves, but that is starting to look less likely now.

Just trying to help you out as there seem to be a lot of posts on this subject that are only speculation.

And as far as Dejan, well he has made his views fairly clear today. You may want to see that as a smokescreen, but then booking your child into a school could be exactly the same, and I don't see Adam jumping ship until that smoke has cleared, which I suspect will be after the WC!

As we all know, what happens in football can surprise us all, but I would seriously suggest you watch out for what happens re MoPo, because until that is sorted the rest is speculation mixed with fantasy football.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are clutching at straws. If players perform well there will be interest. And there is certainly interest in the manager.}

Why would we want a player who has that kind of attitude. All very well trying to push through a move, but for me, I would't want him if he was willing to strike for a move. A player signs a contract, they are grown men, live with the contract you sign.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Lallana not threatened to strike. Maybe a swap for the Liverpool player who has done that in the past?}

Why would Mascherano want to go to Southampton?

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2014 00:44:07
loved that long dedicated post from the saints fan:) it was passionate alright!

look mate even if we don't sign Lallana someone else will, Chelsea and Utd (for now) have deep pockets and he will leave regardless of Ponochio stays or goes! Lucky Luke will leave if MP goes, that French guy with a German name will leave (Arsenal or Napoli) Any Although we have no confirmed interest in Lovren obviously half of Europe is after him.

Foozball is a crazy game, but hey you'll have a lot of $$$ and half new team, not all bad. Now watch out for the fall because I don't think the straws are strong enough. Even that GK is about to sign a new deal at his newly promoted club, surely that's an indication that there's some issues regarding saints which won't be resolved for a little bit?

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 17:22:37
hi eds

i think the situation with lallana is that southampton want a bidding war to start, they won't let him go cheap s they know they can afford to keep him, then with us we always put a low 1st bid in, but when the new owners took over they said they won't buy over the odds for players, I know we have in the past, but with the carrol and downing signings they got their fingers burnt, so I southampton give a valuation which does not match ours we won't budge and we will then walk away, I think its a good thing that the club does this as we won't get ripped off for players who get sold for cheaper to other clubs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 May 2014 17:09:47
Imagine this
Ins:
Javi Martinez -30m
Sanchez -18m
Rojo-15m
Monero-15m
Total : 78m
Then if we sold a few players we could raise the funds eg. Borini -10m, aspas-7m, and If we sold a cb we would probs buy Lovren

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will be a waste of time to imagine such stuff.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we sold Suarez maybe yeah.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't want Martinez for 30 million, would rather a younger dm for less! Dreaming anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love Martinez but it ain't going to happen and I think Sanchez would cost a fair bit more than £18 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Imagine this is key here methinks

Cue the new founded optimism among supporters! They're already saying now that Van Gaal has signed that the league is in the bag! Can't wait till we do the double over them again next season! How's that for optimism!?! Bring on the fixture list.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They might want to check his complete history before jumping to conclusions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lots of fun to look forward too.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 17:39:53
Isn't Cleverly still at UTD?

Agree0 Disagree0

It will take them a good few years to challenge for the league again. I think Liverpool will get one before United.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah he's a winner alright. He won the Dutch league with Ajax, the German league with Bayern and the Spanish league with Barcelona.
I reckon he could take Celtic to the Scottish premiership title too.

Agree0 Disagree0

LvG is also Dutch under 65 champion of shooting fish in a barrel.

Agree0 Disagree0

Should we look at past records of managers? How does the record of BR compare?.

Van gaal has a fantastic record of shaping teams philosophy for future years.

Got you lads worried anyway!

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha nice one ken.

Agree0 Disagree0

The only thing worrying about van Gaal, is when will he do something or say something ridiculous again.

United have a depleted squad, he'll not be able to replace your entire midfield and defence in 1 window, sorry to burst your bubble but even United can't do that, especially with out CL football next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whom said it will be replaced in one window? Its obvious it will be done over the next 2-3 windows.

Still plenty of quality in the squad, and with a top manager in charge whom is to say he can't get the best out of these so called 'average' players like Sir Alex did last year!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You are absolutely right it will take some time.}

I like the way the are carrying on the film star theme, going from Gollum to Sloth from the Goonies. Google it if you don't know who I mean!

It will be interesting how things pan out. I still think thing will get worse before they get better. It is going to take a couple of years to get the team he wants, will they remain patient? We will have to wait and see. He has a hell of a Job on his hands.

We have been through the rebuilding phase, we just need to stay ahead by adding 2 or 3 quality player each window and let everyone else worry about us.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I can't imagine anything but a year of transition.}

Been through the rebuilding stage? U haven't won anything yet! Yes you have had an exceptional season, but all will be lost if u can't keep hold of Suarez this season!

I think united and Liverpool will be battling for 3, 4 & 5 with Arsenal next year. however in the league, it's advantage united as we don't have CL remember. ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

LvG is also Dutch under 65 champion of shooting fish in a barrel.
Ken Aguero

Sorry Ken - he isn't - I am and have been since I got barred out of all the coffe shops in Amsterdam

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2014 00:02:41
funny how a team that scored 101 goals still is called a 1 man team! that without Suarez it will all be lost,? lol, not really though, that team scored 70 goals without his goals. And the 10 matches he was banned we won 7 and lost only once. Oh did I forget to mention if he were to leave which is unlikely we will have £ 100 million to invest in the squad! And that maybe just maybe we won't do a spors and sign a lot of fancy names but players which we actually need and will fit right in?

I don't know I think Utd will struggle a lot next season as well. Maybe finish 5th, at best. Believe me because I'm being completey honest boca lad I don't even think of UTD when I think of next season, they are irrelevant! Enjoy a couple more years of transition buddy :)))))) hopefully for ever ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Or the money could be used to nail some of the debt.}

We have a decent squad that will get better. 5 out of the top 7 will get stronger in my opinion with doubts over the other two (spurs and Everton). depending on the manager situation at Totenham and how well Martinez can work the loan system and transfer window.

You are correct we have had a good season but we haven't won anything, we need to add a few quality players to improve, our young squad will be stronger next season.

Before you draw conclusions as to who has the upper hand, I would wait until September 1st to see how the squads are shaping up.

The longer you are out of the top 4 the harder the job to get back in but I am sure utd will get back up there over the coming 2/3 seasons, it is our job to make sure it isn't at our expense.

Afternoon Ed's

Just passing this on, no doubt others have seen it already and not sure how true it is either.

Raphael Honigstein is reporting that the release clause that Emre Can has, is overruled by Bayern's buy back clause, and apparently needs Bayern to approve the deal before it may/can go through.

Keep up the good work, and sorry for another post on Emre Can!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think we should rename him Emre Can't.

{Ed002's Note - It is pronounced Chan rather than Can.}

Ed, when a player is out on loan how closely are they watched by their parent club? Suso at Alemeria for instance .

Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It varies. I can best use Chelsea as an example. Chelsea have people responsible for player liaison - these as sometimes ex players. They will have the responsibility for ensuring the players have anything they need, deal with any issues arising and will watch some, but not all, of their games in person. They will also report back to the club on progress.}

19 May 2014 14:24:01
If Liverpool are looking to replace Migs in goal, do you think BR would fancy going for someone like Peter Cech? If Chelsea are to bring Thibaut Courtois back from AM as their no 1 then I think Cech would be a good shout. He's still only 31 and I don't see him sitting on the bench. He has a wealth of experience from winning Premiership's to Champions League football

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Edds, will courtouis stay at athletico as part of the chelsea deal for costa?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Putting aside Costa, Atletico would like to keep Courtois another year but Chelsea are planning on brining him back this summer.}

19 May 2014 14:15:23
When looking at the last few matches of the run in a lot of ex players (Kenny, Rush, etc) were shown on TV attending the matches. I was just wondering does Kevin Keegan ever attend Liverpool matches? I haven't ever seen him on TV in the crowd. Was he ever seriously considered to become a Liverpool manager? How do you think he would have got on?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 May 2014 17:43:19
Keegans team was very attack minded and exciting to watch but the defence was a let down, keegan wore his heart on his sleeve with the famous line "i would love it if we beat them, just love it "i beleve if had of managed Liverpool he would of done it much the same way :)

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 13:47:49
What do eds and posters see in Brad Jones future at Liverpool, do u see him staying to fight for a place, or going and migs staying and fighting for a place with a new keeper, also do u think toure will stay as he started good but haven't seen too much of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

19 May 2014 14:08:25
If he stays, No keeper is coming in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I see him at LFC for another season.

Agree0 Disagree0

In all honesty I think he'll leave we need another keeper who is going to challenge Mignolet for next season and make him perform more.

If Reina was willing to take a pay cut he'd be ideal but I don't see that happening in all honesty.

A decent up and and coming young keeper would be ideal. A bit like when we had Scot Carson as understudy to Reina.

Hi Ed1 why do you think Liverpool are bidding for lallana it doesn't look like we will match what southhampton are asking especially if we are looking to strengthen in 3/4 other areas too? are we just wasting more time on a player that won't come? appreciate your thoughts on this! cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - because we still haven't sorted out this value thing. The same reason we failed with our January signings, we just don't seem to understand what kind of price our targets will cost before we make moves for them.}

19 May 2014 13:50:02
Ed01, I know you don't like to discuss the finances, But How much you rate him in terms of money?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is not up to my opinion. He is an excellent player though.}

I disagree. I think the club have a valuation and will walk away if saints don't agree. We're not desperate for good homegrown players like other clubs in the champions league and ultimately I don't reckon he's worth more than 20 mill if indeed that is what we offered. If Lallana wants to come, like rogers said, let's see how much he wants it and how hungry he is. Is he just another Charlie Adam? In Rogers we trust, this season it will fully be his team and watch out the rest. YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 14:09:54
I agree, Not a penny more than 20 mill, we had enough expensive flops already. What we need is sensible buying. There aren't too many clubs who going to buy him at 25 mill, If so, they would turn to Barkley.

Agree0 Disagree0

Barkley would cost way more than 25 million in my opinion. Even then they would never sell him to us, and also I doubt the player would join us also.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it's a case of negotiation. It depends on how much we want the move. I don't think we'll sign him though because Southampton's price is unrealistic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ross Barkley would not be available for less than the £30m they sold Wayne Rooney for. Realistically Ross would command a similar fee to what we paid for Andy Carroll if not more.

Agree0 Disagree0

It also seems to be more complicated due to this 25% sell on clause with his previous club. It may depend if Southampton are looking for £20-25M plus the 25% for the previous club. That would scupper it instantly I would have thought.

I hope something can be negotiated as I think he is a quality player and will be in demand post a World Cup

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The sell on clause is nothing to do with Liverpool.}

Obviously it would not be possible but who would people choose out of say lallana for 25 mill or barkley for 35? for me its barkley but just curious to know if everyone else thinks the same

Hi Eds,
Bit of an odd one, but do you know of any journalists that regularly follow the site? As most of what is reported in the media is just trash, I find it strange that there aren't more journalists reporting information that is relayed by sources, such as yourselves, that actually know of where interest is and isn't!

Hi all

First time poster but I expect no sympathy.

I've read a lot of rumours recently about goalkeepers who we are 'going to sign' (Vorm, Marshall, etc.). They all seem average and not much of an improvement on Mignolet. Can you suggest whether we are even in the market for a new 1st choice keeper? If so, presumably Reina and Mignolet will move on. Can you shed any light on why Rogers replaced Reina with Mignolet anyway? Reina has Euro experience and is proven at the highest level; at the time Mignolet had one decent season under his belt in the prem. I am thinking whether Reina returning is even an option?

Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well from my own point of view Renter Reina seemed disinterested for a good 12 months before he went on loan. Disinterest cannot produce good performances

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 13:51:18
Reina was having an awful couple of years. And he wanted to go to barca. We were linked with Begiovic and Mignolet and in the end we bought Mignolet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reina wanted to leave and said his goodbyes to the fans when it seemed he might get his dream move to FCB. But they didn't want him and he moved to Napoli for a year on loan as Reina had hoped he would get him move this summer. Napoli only wanted him on loan for a year until Rafael settled but now they are keen to make his transfer permanent.

The above has not gone down well with BR and I see no chance of Reina returning. Besides, he has been slipping and was poor for about his last 2 &1/2 years at LFC. He was on massive wages at LFC (among the top earners) and wasn't justifying his wages with performances. Also he is now 31 and we need to look forward.

Personally I think he wanted to leave when Rafa left. That summer or the summer after Rafa left, Arsenal bid 20 million for him and he said he wanted to leave, but we didn't sell him and since then, he has been poor.

To me it look like rodgers wants 2 midfielders.

A verstaile holding midfielder (unfortunately, although Lucas is great in the holding role, he is limited in terms of versatility). That is where I think all this interest in Parejo and Can is coming from. They are both capable of playing 3 or more postions including the holding role. I think we will sign one or the other, but not both.

The other postion we seem to be keen on strengthening in midfield is the left side of the diamond. I think Rodgers wants this player to be capable of also playing as an attacking midfielder or a wide forward as well though. Hence the interest in Lallana and Shaquiri. Both fit that description to a tee. I again though don't see us signing them both. Our shift to more of a diamond formation than a 4-3-3 to me explains why we've gone from looking at out and out wide forwards (Salah, Tello, Kono etc) to more versatile wide midfielders who can tuck inside or push further forward.

I'd like Can and Shaquiri purely because they would both be better value for money with a future sell on value if we pull a rabbit (player) from the hat (academy) who is better. Parejo and Lallana are both 25/26 years old and although that brings valuable experience, a £45m pound outlay on two players who might not even succeed is not god value for money. We'd never make that back when we sell them. I think Southampton and Valencia rely on these two players very heavily and for that reason, want heavy compensation. Can and Shaquiri though would likely cost half of what Lallana and Parejo would command.

I know it seems harsh pushing out the likes of Lucas for Can and relegating Coutinho/Suso to the bench for Shaquiri, but did we learn nothing from Paisley? You don't win anything by being loyal to people. If there is a player within your reach who is better or closer to what you need than what you have, you don't pass on them. Paisley was ruthless towards some of the clubs longest serving players, and he won 3 European cups in 9 years as well as 6 league titles. There is no place for sentiment in football. If the current players are good enough, they wil up their game and beat competition out. Henderson has done just that with Allen, and now Joe Allen is the squad player, and Hendo the one who is crucial to our side. That is how it should be. Sterling did the same to Downing. Flanagan did the same to Cissokho. Even Carragher last year at 35 years old, still forced Skrtel onto the sidelines. The list goes on.

If Suso in particular is as good as everyone (myself included) thinks, signing Shaquiri will make him knuckle down and show us why he's better. If he can't be bothered and would rather run away without a fight, he doesn't deserve to play for us anyway. It really is that simple.

We might get none of these players, but Rodgers sems to have outlined the type of players he wants to add to his midfield.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good read Adam. How about some analysis on possible targets. Enjoyed them when you wrote them.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 13:53:17
Can would be a decent adition, considering the money and what he ahs been doing in the league ( luckily he need not score goals, which will take his pressure).
I would love us to sign Shaquiri. I don't see it coming. We might end up paying 25 quids to get Lallana and then wait till whole summer to raise cash from sales.

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent post, my thoughts exactly. Emre Can would mean Lucas possibly moving on and I completely agree on Shaqiri; I think he is an excellent player and he would be a super addition to the squad.

If Lallana and Parejo are going to cost too much, Shaqiri or even Konoplyanka can be bought and we can give that attacking midfielders role to Suso and see if he can be the player we all hope he could be.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe a mixture then of Can at a reasonable price and Lallana a bit pricey but almost guaranteed to fit right in from the first whistle. He is a quality player and less of a gamble than Shaquiri. At that price you don't want to gamble too much, you want assurances and I believe Lallana would give us that.

However, I would just add that I don't see the need for Lucas to be sold even if we sign another central midfielder.
More games obviously brings more injuries and more peaks and troughs in terms of player's form.
I think we should keep disruption of the squad to a minimum where we can and I think that we should go into next season with at least 3 players who specialize in that DM position.
With regard to the attacking players. I don't mind any of the players we are linked with in those positions to be honest they are all good quality (All 3000 of them:).

Talking Mignolet by the looks of things, so heres my thoughts.

Yes, he made a few mistakes this season and its clear he needs competition but at least we now know how to fix him. If we had a better defense in front of him, the weaker part of his game would not have been exposed giving us a false impression of him. At least now he can work on those areas of his game that need improving. Overall, I think he's a great, young shotstopper who just needs to grow a set of balls.

Skrtel, I think, is a different matter. I personally believe that this season was his window display. He sticks out like a sore thumb with our style of play. Yes, he has made some cracking tackles and blocks but how many of those was because he was out of position in the first place? Its Agger and Sakho for me. I think Rodgers was just giving Agger some prolonged rest this season, playing him only a few times as to not aggravate any injuries so that he would be fresh for next seasons title challenge. No doubt a few clubs will enquire about Skrtel this summer after some good displays this season but I think that was exactly what Rodgers hoped for.

We need to buy well in the transfer window. When I say 'buy well', I'm not talking about £30m players on £150k a week. I mean anybody who fits our style of play. This could mean a £150k, 19 year old striker from the Irish league who could go on to score 100 goals in 3 seasons. Or a 32 year old free agent who can still bomb down the wings and put a cross on top of a 10 pence piece. Talent comes from anywhere and everywhere. It is not exclusive to big clubs and high wages. It is not always televised on a weekly basis and sometimes its hard to find but when you find it, its worth it. I believe Brendan knows who he wants. who fits. And on the other hand, who needs to go. Roll on August. Round 3.

YNWA! RT96!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree with you.

We should let Mignolet iron out his faults in the pre season, give him another season and he could turn out to be a very good goal keeper

Skrtel needs to go to. I don't think rodgers planned anything but they way it has all gone is beneficial if we want to sell him. We'll get good value for him.

And there is no harm in buying good players at smaller prices. Someone like caulker good turn out to be a very good buy. Shouldnt judge him based on cardiffs relegation

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree on Mignolet needing competition to improve. very rarely do teams let 'keepers fight it out for spot. We have given Mignolet the 1st choice 'keepers role and he will stay there next season IMO.

I still think Agger will be the one leaving and that Skrtel will stay atleast for another season. I also disagree with BR giving Agger prolonged rest this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 May 2014 13:54:52

But we certainly need 2 GK, And If Mignolet gets injured (which is rare), We need another good one with us. Sorry Brad Jones wouldn't play in any CL matches or PL match

Agree0 Disagree0

When was the last time we had 2 "good" keepers in our squad?

Brad Jones will stay for another year IMO and really I don't see any need for another 'keeper now, even a 2nd choice one.

We have other areas to concentrate on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with AG re: Agger. We were going for the PL and the only constant CB was Skrtle. If BR rated Agger so highly there is no way he would have left him on the bench.

Hey fellow reds and eds, hope everyones keeping well after a long great season! Its that time of year again when the rumours start flying around! Anyway I see everyones having there say on transfers so heres the players i'd love to see at Liverpool!

Shaqiri--I think he could be an unbelievable player if given a chance! Has the same background as coutinho and sturridge in that he has something to prove. I've seen people saying he is too similar to sterling but its a long season and a lot of games will be played! For 10-15 million I think he'd be a snip!

Emre Can--Looks very good on the ball and also looks like he likes a tackle too! Could be a very good player for the midfield three especially when were under pressure!

Moreno--Again looks very good on the ball and left back is one of our main priorities! If reports are true that madrid want him than Liverpool should go for coentrao!

Medel--A very good defensive midfielder who might come cheap with cardiff going down

I think these four players on top of what we have would provide a very competitive squad! We also have Borini, Suso and Illori returning from loan! Does anyone think Illori may be ready for the first team?
I mean him and sakho could be a great partnership! Sakhos a beast and is going to get better and Illori is very good with the ball on the ground and is very fast! Not sure if he's ready yet tho! Would love the eds and other fans opinions

Anyway great work as always eds!

A question for ed 001 and all fellow posters
Since over the last couple of days has seen us being heavily linled to can and shaqiri
Was hoping you guys could provide some input on these players
Any views appreciated

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - not seen much of Can and not seen Shaqiri since before he moved to Germany.}

Shaquiri is not an improvement over sterling . sterling is already top quality and should only get better. shaqiri apparantly has pissed off bayern as I have read in various ed comments. I am not sure we need players who would shout over gametime. and then again I don't think players from bundesliga can do any good in epl .
the closest I can relate this to is marko marin, he was pretty good at bremen, but never did much at chelsea . I would still prefer someone more seasoned like kalou in our wing positions

Agree0 Disagree0

I've seen Leverkusen twice this year and both times my focus was on Lars Bendar and Sam so Can kinda slipped me by. From Youtube (I know) he looks strong and pacey and I'm guessing he's got good stamina considering he ran the length of the pitch and scored against Aufsburg (apologies for spelling) in the 83rd minute. He started that game. Tackling also looks quite good and fiesty.

Touch and passing looks a bit sloppy on youtube although some touches are sublime so difficult to tell fully without focussing on him in a game. I think with 1 or 2 years of Brendan's coaching could be a great signing. Hopefulley he can be a khedira type.

Being 21 and coming to a new country and culture he'll probably have a "Flop" season but come on strong 2 season's time. I personally like the idea of him but I'm more patient than most fans.

Im quite happy for brendan to develop the skills of a young strong athlete player than take someone like Parejo who physically I would worry for in the Premiership. Parejo's passing is awesome though but it's Emre Can for me. Long, No mid-term, the guy will be a star IMO. 1 or 2 years max. Short term, like I said he may struggle

Shaqiri is ready to go straight into first team IMO. He is so strong and with a low centre of gravity. Strong dribbling and good shot. Good positional sense also. Really high work rate and good defensively. Sometimes makes the wrong decision when in possession but I'm certain he'd be a success. I think he's ahead of sterling in his development but this isn't an either/or scenario. It's a squad game. Like the poster said above, attitude is the slight worry. He wants to play every game.

Still think it's likely neither player joins but I'm happy for shaqiri to join at least. I like the idea of Emre Can and am hoping he joins too but am happy to hear the opinion of someone who's watched him more.

You would rather take Kalou over Shaqiri as the winger we are looking for?. Are you serious? haha!

I really don't see Lallana signing for us, don't get me wrong I think he'd be a great addition to the team but surely Southampton will price us out of any deal, I think people should start bracing themselves for 'Lallana snubs Liverpool' stories especially if he and his manager end up at Spurs. Its hardly the end of the world though there are plenty of great players out there and more importantly not all are wanted by their clubs, Sanchez for one although a return to Italy seems most likely.

I see Suarez is linked to Real and Barca again this morning, surely Barca would have to win their appeal in order to buy players? For all their success Barcelona is a good example of how not to run a football club, I know its not very popular but i'm glad the owners of Liverpool are trying to make the club self sufficient.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona can and will be buying.}

19 May 2014 09:41:58
Its almost close to impossible that Suarez will go anywhere. But I agree I don't see Lallana coming to Liverpool now either, .but definitely I don't see him moving to spuds either. It will be the mancs most probably! I bet I could have made a starting offer that wouldn't insult the Saints.

I personally don't see a bidding war for Lallana.
Arsenal don't need a Midfielder, Spurs might come into pic, But not a chance they would pay 25 for him, Chelsea is a strange situation, Unless they offload Oscar, don't see them coming for him As they are in need of a high profile striker and LB which would fetch atleast 50 mill. UTD has a real chance to sign him, But I expect LVG to buy Dutch players, Kroos, Shweinstiger.
Apart from Liverpool and UTD, No other teams are in real need of him.

Barkley is good but I still cringe everytime I read his name, they are our bitter rivals and we will never do business, imagine Everton enquiry about Henderson or Coutinho, we would tell them to put their offer where the sun don't shine. I feel so many here don't understand what bitters mean. There's a movie which would make you understand, it's called the reds & blues I think. It would give you a hint of what the bitters are like and that it's the same up to their owners etc. they despise us, therefore I despise them and all there players, They lost on purpose to, city ffs, that should show how bitter they are?! and if you say they didn't loose on purpose you're having a laugh, they were playing at 70% intensity tops and Howard let in literally the first 2!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, their chairman does not despise Liverpool at all. Though those that work under him in the theatre would disagree, he is a very nice chap on the whole and has done a lot to try and end the bitterness between the two clubs.}

The only team that will not deal with us is Man Utd. If Everton made a bid for one of our players and it met our selling criteria then it would be down to the individual to decide and vice-versa. After seeing how good Everton treat players who they take on loan, how many of us wouldn't mind allowing some of our players to make the temporary move.

It's so disappointing adults will say I hate them because they hate us. Yes there was seemingly a lack of atmosphere, but this was a chairman chasing championleague and quite frankly a bunch of foreign players who have no personal attachment in the derby.

Kotomoto and Big Al, Ross is going nowhere even if Stevie "oop I didn't mean to do that" attempts to bend his ear in Brazil. Roberto Martinez is under no pressure to sell and the lad is happy at Goodison. What is it with you and the Mancs assuming that if you click your fingers, players will come running?

Dave is doing everything he could to convice this page and himself, That Barkley would be Everton.
Mate 25-30 mill and he is off. Simple as that.

Barkley will go sooner or later, not to LFC however. Most likely to your senior club, Manchester United or Chelsea.

Same goes for Martinez, he will leave when a better job comes along and he will already have had increased his myriad of admirers. he is way to ambitious to stay at Everton.

Over rated. Just like the other one who went to City

Watched the Bracelona v Athletico Madrid game other night and really impressed by Mascherano's performance.
It was a tough and stressful game but he handled the Athletico strikers very well.
If Liverpool can get him even for 2 years I hope it will be fantastic.
Ed's your thoughts.

After 5 minutes the only striker leti had on was a past it david villa and 6 midfielders. don't think he'd cope quite as well in tge prem with all the big pacey forwards these days

{Ed001's Note - how is Villa past it? He was one of the best players on the pitch and gave their whole backline a torrid time in the second half on his own. As for Mash doing well, he only did well when they dropped deep, he was awful when they went out to equalise. Though he wasn't the only one, the whole Barca team were completely over run when Atletico attacked them, even though Costa and Turan had gone off injured. By the way, is that Neymar's usual game? I don't mean his ability to roll for 40 yards after someone passes within 50 yards of him either. I mean his total lack of any ability to play football. He was embarrassingly poor. I was beginning to wonder if he had his boots on the wrong feet or something, as no one who costs that much could surely be that poor, could they?}

Have to say I agree with Ed01 on Neymar. One of the most grossly over-rated players on the planet.

Ed01, Have to agree with him, If therz one striker I would sign considering the age, Its Villa. He is a Natural Goal scorer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Ed about Neymar and I doubt that he will ever reach the footballing ability that David Villa still has.

Agree0 Disagree0

To play devils advocate, wasn't neymar rushed back from injury for this game? I also admire David villa but I understand he's in a two month goal drought so to say neymar will never reach the level villa is still at may be a stretch. Both great players and I can't wait for neymar to find the form that justified his move but can't help feeling barca was not the right club to do that at

Sure they can be Ed001; we did buy Andy Carroll didn't we? ;)

Atletico deserved to win it over the course of the season. Mascherano had a mix game, as he usually does these days.

I feel the problem with Liverpool with this season, was obviously the goals leaked! However, this was not against the big teams as such, our deep lying counter attacking football helped protect against the big teams from scoring against is! The games we leaked goals in was the lower teams where we had a lot of possession, made silly mistakes and got counter attacked against! It seems as though defensive changes will occur, but this will probably be in vein unless we add a bit more structure to our midfield. Not slating stevie, he's had a cracking season but he is stol learning the role and maybe our flamboyant attacking play has hindered our defence! We have been a joy to watch, especially vs teams in the top 6/7 teams (mostly.) that's most my thoughts anyway, so, yes it would be nice for attacking one, playmaker 2, but I'd rather win 2 nil vs the likes of Cardiff than 6-3.
