Great to see carra out there today I still really feel he has got a season or 2 left in him look at hyppia and how well he done for us, our defence over recent games has looked dodgey so I'm glad carra came in he might not have the legs but he still has the brain and he's very vocal which helps everyone,

I was not able to watch the game because of work but I was able to see highlights. The thing that caught my eye, besides his goal, was Henderson's pass to Downing for Sturridge's goal. It was superb and he seems to be improving much more with each game.

if aston villa where to get relegated this season would you expect their to be intrest from Liverpool for Christian Benteke {Ed002's Note - No idea.}

Why do we need him with Sturridge showing so much promise

19 Jan 2013 23:13:02
Reading about Sturridge scoring 3 from 3 today and him being the first player since Ray Kennedy to achieve this, we must pay tribute to Ray - a great, brave man and one of the best players we ever saw.

Me auld fellas favourite player of all time - and he's a blue!

Surely this talk of a certain dutchman (i'll refrain from using his name as I'm sure the Eds are sick of it by now) signing is nonsense. I'd be happy to see a youngster with talent and guile coming in over a player who hasn't seen a kick of the ball for a few months and when he was playing before that he wasn't even in great form, not to mention his astronomical wages.
Just an opinion.
Much rather see Coutinho coming in through the Melwood doors, at least with him he has the time to adapt and hopefully reach his potential while having the likes of Gerrard and Suarez there to help him along.
Again an opinion.
Galway Red.

Gerrard and Suarez have both stated the team needs more experience! So I presume they would prefer a player like the Dutch one you have mentioned over another young unproven talent..

Apart from Wisdom, we played most of the match without the kids and had plenty of EPL and international experience on the pitch today, and it worked.

We don't need the Dutchman.

I think if goalkeeper Ochoa arrives to Liverpool, would be the best movement on 2013 ($$) after Wesley Snijder,

Is that jj ochoa. prob to old to play out field now

with regards sneijder

a) we havnt even contacted inter over him (as the EDs continousely state)

b) when people talk about his wages not being an issue because he is on 6.5m per year and Gerrard is on more etc. you need to realise this is after Tax, Tax in england is near enough 40% and is even less in Italy so the wages being postulated are way off the mark

c) he is hardly going to be prepared to take a wage cut either - why else is he leaving Inter Milan (who are 2nd in Serie A, its not like they're doing badly) who asked him to reduce his wages by 1m per year?!

SO ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Basically he's a greedy wa****! I wouldn't want him near our team should be privileged

Stevie's return to form hasn't coincided with Lucas' return just by chance. By god we look so much better, not only defensively, but as a unit. One of he best things about this is he played quality today, and we still all know he isn't back to his best! Excited. HullRED

Strangely since lucus came back he hasn't yet reached his best form but he seems to get the best out of others.. He made Charlie Adam look like Steven gerrard.. He even made spearing look like a player

I personally feel that Gerrard is at his best when Henderson playing and it has nothing to do with Lucas. Henderson is full of energy and takes some of the work load off Gerrard.
Wish people would see that rather than constantly assuming its down to a Lucas (who was very poor against utd) return!

Agree with both of you above

we ve found our current stringest midfield

gerrard lucas hendo

tom1975

20 Jan 2013 09:50:18
disagree...
wen you see the stats...70-30% possession...
it means one thing...lucas and gerrard are doing execptional...
the pass for the second goal...was sublime...
i really like this guy lucas...one for his job..two for his commitment to LFC...

Port lad posted earlier, just back from game.Great 90 minute performance for ONCE! Jones more assured on set pieces.Though Pepe brings other qualities.Weve ALL said Carras finished, myself included.Hes always organized and led on the pitch, through being a talker.Sorting everyone positional wise(even though his own in past, he struggles with, cos've pace) LFC need modern day leaders/Winners as shown today. He had good game as. Did other old vet(though never talked or organized enough) review.Stevies passing and game reading superb. Why today? Two reasons for me-The excellent Lucas reading, intercepting, tackling, driving us forward. And because Stevie had pace in gap between Strikers and Midfield in form of Hendos runs. Therefore Brendan Fella stop paying maintaince to your bit on side by playing your love child Allen! Agger had goog game against dirty excuse for player-Holt.Front twos movement and pace excellent.Midfield now have options to pass too.Hendo who I gave loads stick to deserves huge credit and a prolonged chance. But today showed despite Brendan's protestations Experience is essential as is leaders ON the pitch.Get in boys.Side kept similar, Sterling rested etc.And we shouldn't fear anyone! city/Arsenal whoever.Just DON'T over do changes in Cup

So you've switched from giving Hendo stick to Allen. Why not just let Allen be as he wasn't in the starting 11 and just enjoy a fabulous performance.
Players are not robots and will have fluctuations in form? That's one of the puposes of a squad, is to be able to manage this.
The whole squad seems to me to be an excellent group that has a real togetherness.
We havn't had that for a long time.
A few games from now Allen could be the star performer or not?
But for me, he is either way an important member of the set up. All of our players are now very capable which I think is going to bring the results and performances we all desire.

Aright eds,
Please allow my question must be bored of Sniejders name. If Liverpool are to make an offer for him and all this perosnal terms busines happens do you think Spurs will intervene and he will choose them over us.

Callum Parks LFC {Ed052's Note - Spurs will probably not get involved}

What about other teams??

20 Jan 2013 00:07:38
Okay, are we at the point where we check under our beds for Daniel Levy before we go to sleep?

Spurs will be interested in who they're interested in. They don't just go "ooh, Liverpool have bid for someone. Let's hijack it!!" No club does that.

- Something Red -

19 Jan 2013 22:27:28
eds do you guys think Coutinhos bid is just to scare blackpool into thinking we having other targets or do you think the interest is genuine {Ed052's Note - no, we have interest in him}

Skilful littleplayer is coutinho, could be a good addition to the squad

Brendan Rodgers asked if e has any comment on Wesley Sneijder signing he said 'no comment'. Also hearing that we have submited personal terms offer for him which has been rejected and another offer will be made soon. Just passing on anything I hear.

Eds just seen on twitter from a source who is usually spot on with things is saying that we've JUST this second agrees personal terms with Sneijder? (£110,000 a week) if Spurs (which is unlikely because they won't pay that) or United come in then we don't stand a chance.... Any of this true or is the situation still as it was earlier? {Ed052's Note - no. Its not true. We haven't even spoken to Inter about him.}

Eds if you don't mind me asking how do you know we haven't spoken with him?

Paul the red {Ed052's Note - thats what I've been told. Up to you whether to believe. I'm 100% confident its correct}

We really do need agree wit ed & Disagree with ed on top of the Agree & Disagree as I agree with the eds about spoken to him.

Just thought I'd post this before MOTD. I predict that the pundits analysis will be how badly Norwich played and not that Liverpool were great. Our other two excellent performances against QPR and Fulham were shunned and put down to the opposition being poor, but when Liverpool had a bad day at the office against Villa they 'played us off the park' only us Liverpool fans truly know when the team has preformed and today we were absolutly fantastic. Well done the lads

Totally, TOTALLY agree.

Well said

Red. machine

I agree in general but that game vs QPR was a disaster, QPR had the worse 1st half I can remember in my years of looking at games, so in that instance agree 100% with the pundits

Ska-oop

That wasn't the case at all. Credit where credits due Luis Suarez ran riot chasing down squaring players up and taking them on. Within 15 min he had destroyed them. It wasnt they played bad just Luis caught them cold and put it out of sight. QPR then went on to beat Chelsea away the next game so they couldn't have been in that bad form

Can't wait for sneijder to sign for galatasaray so we can put this to bed
Davros

19 Jan 2013 22:03:51
More of a theory, Sniedjer is a bargain at the price inter are willing to sell him for, we've let one expensive midfielder go off our wage bill, BR is asking for experience, and we have reportedly made a bid for Coutinho who's 23, I believe, that doesn't make sense, could this not be a smoke screen so we can discuss term with inter for Sniejder without the likes of spurs stealing him at the last minute?

Do you not think that any parties interested in sneijder would be connected enough to know if we made an offer?

Coutinho is only 20
btw

a very very impressive performance today was really refreshing I sensed it in air at anfield today sturridge has changed our dynamics. outstanding performace and great to see the kop singing br name he deserves it he's proving people wrong and hopefully gaining trust of owners

Great site! Love reading the rumours but I wish Sneijder would put everyone out their misery and join a club, i, d love him to come to Lfc but like Ed keeps saying we can, t afford his wages. He, s leaving Inter cause he won, t take a wage cut, so why go to lfc with a wage cut, we are not challenging for the league yet and not a established Champs league ream like Inter already are. Put all these rumours to rest Wesley. Think he, ll go to someone like Malaga, if Redknapp was still at Spurs they, d have more chance than us. Sorry for bein negative but we, ve got to be realistic. Hope i, m wrong though and chooses to wear the Lfc shirt over money.

Sturridge buy of Jan 3 in 3 keep it up mate

19 Jan 2013 21:28:42
Hi eds, just wanted to say with all this talk about sneijder doesn't anyone realise the damage signing him could do to us? yes he is a great player but at what cost, bringing him in could hinder any future signings in the summer and if he doesn't perform what then with a huge salary brendan's hands would be tied for the next few windows! and lets not forget he's 28 now on his way out of his prime should'nt we be looking at players like ericksen or innan young talented players that don't command 200k a week.

jacko

There is that argument but on the other hand we got Cole and Sahin off the wage bill as well as many other high paid players since last summer. And our squad is thin and lacking experience. I think he wouldn't be a hinderance and strengthen a position in need of strengthening..

The Coon

More likely to get WS than Christian Eriksen

Dear Danny Boy,
U've proved me wrong, and I'm happy. I'm so impressed with you so far both on the pitch and the way u've conducted urself before the press. Well done! Keep your cool and hopefully, your goals will become as 'humongous' as Liverpool. Now a result agaist gooners and the spuds tomorrow will make my weekend a blast.

There was a lot of critacism of Henderson last season but people need to realise that he was mostly played out of position on the right wing, he did a job there and never once complained about it unlike some, but this season he has been given a chance in his preferred position in the central role and I for one am so glad he's grabbing his chance with both arms and proving all the people who called him every name under the sun wrong! Jordan Henderson does a huge future at Liverpool f.c

Great win today lads! I think all we need is someone to play where downing is he's good but not top quality... Dries martens would be my best choice... We just need someone there to add a bit more an we'll be unstoppable

Totaly agree I think the money should be spent on a decent player for downings position... Not sure who but we'll be strong with downing sterling borini coming off the bench

We have a young squad with great protential and we have only been lacking goals.
Sturridge brings in a direct threat to goal and he and suarez could compliment each other and put fear in defences.
Henderson is a fine player and this season he looks like he's got the dreaded monkey off his back and is showing his worth.
Downing just needs consistancy now and Allen is a talent and will settle in to prove it.
We forget that thess players move to a big club with a massive judgementle fan base and a price tag that brings out the critics in their hundreds. These players are only young and this is a scary and daunting time which only experience can help. We should support these kids and understand that football isn't as easy as it looks on the tv. 40 odd thousand fans surrounding you in touching distance, screaming and shouting at you. Then there's the media spotlight and the public forums with 24hours a day millions are watching you and judging and critizing your every move, word and lifestyle.
This can take time for a young lad to get used to.

Well said, post of the season!

redjohn79

Yep well said, look at Henderson last season passing back no confidence he's settling now and looking like a player! Same thing is going on with Allan passing back and slow is not his game guys just give him time..

Agree well said.

It was well worth the rather precarious downhill slide to the East Lancs road today and the blasts of ice on the air during the trudge to and from the ground. It was an excellent all round team performance, with Liverpool's passing being extremely good from the off and Norwich failing to cope and failing to pose a significant threat to Brad Jones's goal. Alongside being able to listen to some decent music before the match, rather the Swedish House Mafia played before the Sunderland game, other welcome highlights today included the sight of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez combining to excellent effect, and both clearly relishing the occasion. I must admit, I was unsure about the Sturridge dance prior to his arrival, but that too was a highlight that even the rather quiet Anfield crowd seemed to enjoy, particularly as confirmation of the fact that Liverpool have finally found somebody to score a few tap-ins. The combination of Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva and Stevie G was extremely effective too. Stewart Downing provided further evidence that he does have a role to play, as of course did the much-maligned Jamie Carragher. Were there any negatives today? If there were, I'm struggling to remember them, so they're probably best forgotten. How nice would it be for Liverpool to carry today's form into the Oldham, Arsenal, and Citeh games? I think I might have a sip of one of my better malts now to provide another nice highlight.

Red Owl {Ed052's Note - Swedish House Mafia are fantastic. I was devestated when they announced their split!}

Ed 052, I suspect I may have proved my age. Oh dear. I defer to your better judgement with regard to SHM.

Henderson has been unbelievable for a couple of months now in my opinion, I've had many an argument defending the lad, I don't think i've heard one pundit give him any credit as yet, he isn't the most fashionable name I understand but he is maturing for sure and with confidence will be a great player for us.

totally agree with your post, the only thing wrong with hendo is the price tag over his head.he is a young lad and lacks a bit of confidence. he never asked for someone to pay 16 mill for him, instead of people having a go every time he makes a mistake get behind the lad, remember lucas!

Agree 100% - the lad has class and he's improving in confidence with every game. His passing is terrific - as good as Ronnie Whelan was with those 20-30 yard defence splitting passes.

Good performance today really looked good in all areas. Personally couldn't believe our no.7 coming out with what he said this week, most saying his not the brightest and all that but maybe it was a stroke of genius! Now anyone going near our main man in the box will go in as soft as possible thinking he will go over and he'll be off and past them before they know it. Keep it going lads we can get 4th just stay positive.

We can only beat teams below us in the table.
So it's simple, next year just go top early and stay there. Lol
The good news is we are now 7th and not 8th, so that's one more team we are guaranteed of beating.

Well done sturidge, 3 in 3.

So if chelsea beat the rubbish out of arsenal tomorrow (3-0) and west ham manage to win the derby by a goal, then we can beat Arsenal also, as they will be below us on the table.

Did get to see the game today so 10.30 tonight can't come quick enough! As well as the result being a huge positive and from what I hear the performance as well another positive point was that we had 9 shots on target and scored 5 times. This is far superior to last year where we couldn't hit a barn door.
Another interesting stat is that Sturridge is the first LFC player to score in his first 3 games since Ray Kennedy in 1974.

All still going on about kk and his transfers .. well i'd have to say Henderson was a England under 21 captain and regular who has been praised by every coach who has worked with him. Hendersons reputation was equal to Lampards at the same age.
Downing is a pacey winger who has vision for a pass, hardworker and can influence a game.
Carroll is big and strong who is a nightmare to any defence. He is a majestic headerer of the ball, fearless and has the sweetest left foot in the game. His time at Newcastle made clubs look with interest. Protentialy a star.
The one thing that could not be foreseen with these players is time it would take to feel confident and fit in with the team. Huge price tags carry a weight that can take a while to take off.
Henderson will this season gain the confidence for next season to show you what he can do.
Downing is a useful squad player who will come good on a more regular bassis and carroll will be a great when he finds his confidence and footballing home.
The only wrong that kenny done was over paying on these players but then kenny wasnt incharge of fees.
All three of these players was worth between 8 to 10m each at that time we bought them but we payed to much. It was a mixture of panic buying and the clubs name the reason why we payed over the odds but we stll payed far too much.
I think the pressure is easing on players and soon kk will prove he was right all along.

The above is my opinion

The king is always right.

I agree apart from the part about Carroll. Sweetest left foot in the game? Big call there....

Beating either City or Arsenal away is doable, Arsenal is the one we really need! Great performance from the lads and all the Hendo haters have crawled in their holes... the boy just needs a bit more time, he top premiership class.

Lets get it in perspective here.. we played a very poor Norwich team team today and lets not forget the fact that this season hasn't been great so far.however lets bask in our glory today and praise a good performance fom the team especially Henderson and Downing who deserve their credit after the unreal and unjustified abuse they got from so called liverpool fans.

That norwich team beat arsenal & man utd at home and got a good point at goodison. no has rolled them over for a while. thanks

Don't you worry I'm here, yes it was a good result and by all accounts a very good performance which I was hoping to watch on sly later, but typical of them they are showing Newcastle, so will watch the highlights at 10.15pm.

Let's just wait until after the next 2 league games before you get carried away, don't forget we have NOT beaten any team above us, I still stand by what I have said 7-10th finish this season with Suarez to leave in the summer.

alan50

That's the spirit alan50, keep your fingers crossed !!

Fitzy

There are less and less teams above us now?

Christchurch Paul

Well done Alan50, keep in line with the sheep and regurgitate old media fed nonsense. We still have 6 games against the teams currently in the top 8 places. 4 of those games are at anfield.

Not a lot of the top teams get wins away against the other top 10 teams, a draw is seen as a good result. We've drawn w Chavs and Bluenoses at their place, but any honest man will tell you we could have easily win them with a decent ref.

The Arsenal gave us a good kicking at the start of season, but whilst nowhere near the finished article we are still a very different team now. Bring 'em on and Citeh too.

I'm not one to say players are bad or anything. But I do believe that we play so much better with Allen not on the field. and that showed today we were more positive with our passing and it showed we were passing forward a lot more then sideways and backwards like Allen usually does. I just don't get his role at all... I'm not trying to bash him just want others opinions. I think Hendo really has played his way into the team as well as that cracking goal.

AndyKopLiverpool

I would totally agree Allen offers little if nothing offensively

Give him time - the same things were once said about Lucas and Henderson. The former came good and the latter is on the way.

I completely agree mate, it's obvious isn't it?

I said the same earlier and got slated for it!

I've nothing against Allen either but we play better without him, not just today.

Players should be picked on form, Allen needs a rest, hendo's playing well, so merits a starting place in the side

You are bashing him, I bet you did the same to hendo and lucas, players take time to settle, just like hendo did and lucas, why mention him if he hardly played today why can't you just be happy with the result and our teams performance, you'll probably jump on the bandwagon when he starts playing well too, they our players they don't need to be criticized when they not even playing. Leem

Give the lad a chance, his form has dipped (like gerrard's did) simply because they've both been playing pretty constantly since the start of last season, basically no rest in the summer(olympic team). I shouldn't imagine moving to a massive club like lfc and having a first born child a couple of months into the season has helped much either!
and just for the record, he's still in the top 3 players in the league for regaining possession this season in the premier league. that stat suggests that despite rodgers stating it's not his natural game, he is one of the best in the league at doing so, despite playing badly.....in many fans eyes! give him time like all lfc fans should, many years ago we gave ian rush a year to settle and the rest is history!

Allen isa liverpool player, he s off form but still a red, support him not bash him..... he ll come good again

hai ed great site..and great result...

wen the stats shows 70-30% possession...
it means one thing...lucas and gerrard are doing exceptional...
i have never worried who scored..and how much scored...
when lucas have good game...we just play incredible..
the guy is irreplaceable....I mean he and Gerard were actually walking through the park..not even an ant passed through them..

If lucas play the same way next game at emirates...we gona get something...

from makelliele ...to mascherano...
from yaya toure to lucas...
this position is so vital..

and good job by hendo..
if he plays same week in week out..

forget snidjer...we already spend 20 mill for this man...

hey ed's this isn't transfer related or anything but there was just this thing in my mind and I wanted your oppinion regarding that, since Coates hasn't really been our first choice at the heart of defence don't you think BR should experiment with him by playing him as a holding midfielder because face it the lads got skills I have got to hand to him we all remember his scissors kick last season so why not try putting him alongside lucas just like RAFA has done with Luiz at chelsea? {Ed052's Note - he doesn't have enough pace to play as a CDM, and is not good enough forward. Luiz does well there as he has a bit of pace and skill about him}

19 Jan 2013 19:05:03
The only disappointing thing for me today was that the OG didn't run through to Borini for a tap in. Probably the best I've seen the team play all season. Keep it up and good things are bound to happen!

Anyone notice how sad and subdued Suarez was after the game...?

Stop sounding so desperate, he's not leaving!

Anyway he was probably just sad because he didn't score a hatrick.

Papa G

Not true. I was at the match and was keeping an even closer eye on Luis than normal to see whether he appeared unsettled. Thankfully, he was absolutely fine and any fears I had were allayed.

Regarding Henderson. I don't know the lad personally, but everything I've read about him says he is always trying to learn and improve his game. The lad had a hell of a lot of skills (I remember him winning 'skill school' on soccer am when he was a young un at Sunderland!), has a great engine, and can tackle. He has been playing and training with the likes of SG and Suarez - he was bound to improve. What he was missing mostly was confidence, and I don't think playing him out of position on the right wing helped that at all. With BR's formation, he is not being asked to play out wide, and I think it has helped him enormously. I'm delighted for the lad that he has started showing what he is capable of. Even better than that, I think he has shown glimpses that he can possibly reach an even higher level. One thing I know for sure, he will keep on putting in 100%. Just the type of player we need.

Nick

Were did he play today ?? he did play on the wing! just support the team... great win
red turning green

Downing played on the right. Henderson played just ahead of Stevie & Lucas.

On the wing? Absolutely not, he was through the middle. He was constantly dropping back deep into the midfield and carrying the ball forward. SG and he would switch with this role. He was rarely out wide. Great goal, great game. Hopefully more to come. YNWA

I think he started on left wing

19 Jan 2013 19:53:04
totally agree with you I think last season he was played out of position but under BR he has really shown improvement .credit must go to BR for improving the game of some of the players he is a good coach.
AYUSH

We did play 442

I was at the game we kind of played 4-2-3-1 with Hendo starting on the left of the 3 until Lucas went off!

However he was far from stuck there, he gerrard, suarez etc were constantly swapping but he always got straight out there when Norwich got the ball!

Great engine and think he's going to be a great player for us! People just need to get behind him more! Agree his best postition is in the middle but one thing is for sure he always runs his socks off and if you notice Gerrard always plays better when he is playing with Henderson as I feel Henderson takes some of the worklaod off Gerrard.

CHickey.

Suarez sturridge and downing played in three up top, with sturtidge and suarez interchanging middle and left. Henderson played in middield

The way we played today can't really fit into any of the normal formations. I'd describe it like this:

Sturridge mostly played as a #9, with Suarez playing in behind him, with freedom to roam. Sometimes they'd swap but mostly it was Sturridge up top and Suarez behind him.

Downing played as a fairly traditional wide man on the right.

Henderson played sort of a left-central attacking midfield position. He certainly wasn't playing wing but also wasn't truly playing centrally.

Johnson played very much a wing back role on the left, running into the space provided by the fact that there was no real left winger. He was given a lot of responsibility down that left hand side.

Gerrard and Lucas played as holding midfielders, although Lucas stayed deeper than Gerrard and didn't have the freedom. Gerrard was given freedom to support the attack when warranted.

Wisdom played more of a fullback role on the right, compared to Johnson who was more of a wing back. Wisdom wasn't given nearly as much responsibility as Johnson was because Downing helped him out.

Agger and Carragher played pretty routine roles as center backs.

I'd agree with the previous poster. It really wasn't any sort of traditional formation. More like wing back + forward on the left, winger + fullback on the right. Lucas deep, Gerrard slightly less deep, Henderson like a tucked in left winger, Suarez and Sturridge doing whatever they want. It was all rather entertaining, honestly.

19 Jan 2013 18:50:26
Great win today I hope we can still sign a couple of more players to add to this team. We played really well today and i'm glad to see Sturridge score again I have to admit I was not he's biggest fan before he arrived but he seems to have proved a lot of people wrong. Even though its early doors he looks like a great buy. I loved the dummy that set up suarez just as good as an assist in my eyes.

want to start of by saying what a great performance today, thought every player played well.would just like to ask a couple of questions though, would really like anyone's comments on two things.1. went to my first game in 1970 and in my opinion the atmosphere at today, s game was the worst I have known, why?. 2. Is the something I don't know about that happens between 80-85 minutes and people start leaving the ground, this is not just today but happens every game. my God the team has just won 5 - 0 the least you can do is applaud them of the pitch. jIr63

Supporters do leave early(which they shouldn't when the team plays well)so they can miss all the traffic

Totally agree

19 Jan 2013 20:36:17
I've only ever tried to leave Anfield once before a final whistle, we were 4-2 down against Arsenal and my brother kicked off on me. He was proved right (even tho we needed a win) and the game changed.

Never leave early

True - the atmosphere was awful today! Needs improving somehow but I'll be honest and say I have no suggestions for how to do that

19 Jan 2013 18:34:15
Good win and reflection on how we played 2nd half against united. Happy for sturridge and hopefully this is start of wonderful partnership between him and Suarez. Henderson and even Downing had decent game and I guess BR putting them on sword and challenging for place in Liverpool has made them work hard. Henderson does look better then Allen but again I Allen is good option to have on bench and means we have stronger squad. Don't know if we will sign any more players but I hope its not for sake of adding number but strengthing from what we have already.

19 Jan 2013 18:30:12
Great result today with good performances from Henderson, Downing, Sturridge.
All with a point to prove and done it today.
Thought Sturridge all round play was superb. He was linking up play, spreading it wide, making intelligent runs but most importantly scoring again, 3 in 3.The dummy for Suarez goal was superb, he knew exactly where Suarez was.
One thing I noticed was about 3 or 4 times balls were being crossed into the box low around the 6 yard line and no one in there. Will need either Suarez or Sturridge to get in there and take a chance when the ball is played wide. The partnership with Suarez and Sturridge looked promising.
One last note old whisky nose can't stop talking about us, that tells me he can see a threat building to his little empire. All I got to say is keep talking Fergie keep talking we will do ours on the pitch.

Please can we sign 2 or 3 world class players because I really don't think were that far away from challenging for honours, if we can add one in this transfer window and add again in the summer, class performance from Henderson today he's becoming the player kenny thought he was. Ed what's your view on signings? {Ed052's Note - we have signed one great player this Jan. And if we bring more in, I am confident BR will get the right men}

Kenny did not sign Hendo

Kenny did sign him, he also said in his autobiograhy before he took over lfc that he was a future talent

Heheee On the 30th we might loose and then the so called x, y, z haters will come out and and you will hide ..
Excellent win today with lots of goals and good team play ... but did n't the so called Rodgers haters asked for Allen to be dropped .. Brendan finally dropped/rested him the result we had a solid midfield knew what they doing the team scored 5 goals and kept clean sheet.
Now I have to admit, I did n't think Sturridge will be a good signing, but I am so happy I was very wrong about him (I am having my humble pie for dinner); but its not because he scored again, its the nature of today goal and the one against united, he had the vision to be in the right place, chased and got there first ..

Great show by the lads today hendo gerrard and lusas all on top of there game. lucas brings the best out of captain fantastic. suarez and sturridge looking like a real partnership. 4-4-2 is definitely the way we should be playing as it allows us to get more players in the box and give the likes of gerrard more space for long range shots. Really good to see a great team performance and some great goals, what a difference it makes to have another player uptop that can recieve and control the ball with confidence and conviction, to often we have fell down this season being light weight in the final third,
Even the bench just gives me more confidence.
A few more editions to the squad I reckon with time this team can achieve.

Downing again excellent today can't see why we should sell and take a gamble on a new signing.

Ince will be a last minute if at all Blackpool chairman he is a right spanner.

Danny Rose still expect a bid.

I'm informed Sneijder is a non starter as BR doesn't want him.

A bid for Coutinho is unrealistic in January

Coates to go on loan if a replacement can be found but not be sold.

Genuine info guys as always

Clee Red

We don't need ince.. I'd even let Assaidi leave which would bring in about 4 million.. Hopefully we receive a few million for ince.. Let Pacheco spearing Carroll and Wilson also leave which should bring in about 20-25 million.. If a big offer comes in for downing we should take and replace but he is a useful player.. Buy sneijder and at the right price coutinho but only at the right price.

Can't believe it surely were the only fans that win 5-0 yet still slate our own players. I mean jeez apparantly it's all Allen fault that we haven't been winning like that all season? I mean give the guy a guy a break he's young and just joined a massive club who's fans are on your ass every second. I wonder if next season if everyone will be kissing his ass and a new player would get stick even when he aren't playing.

Sturridge haters need to be named and shamed as well! You guys must feel like right muppets.

I think people are stating the obvious mate. I don't see it that Allen is being slated, people are just pointing out he's not been a great signing so far.

I'm sure that'll change in time but I see no harm in people airing their opinions about a player who hasn't really performed yet.

Spot on London red: Was just going to post something similar.

How refreshing to be putting so called 'low teams' to the sword instead of being found wanted.

Brilliant to sustain the attack rather than sit back and defend a 2-3 goal lead and we're much more effective when we are pushing constantly.

Sturridge looking sharp but also showing good vision to link with johnson and suarez - plus 3 in 3 can't ask for more than that.

Classy performance from hendo, great goal and what a ball to downing for sturridge's goal.

Gerrard being a legend as usual and a trademark goal.

Kenny was a unfortunate that none of the signings other than Enrique initially in the 1st half of last season hit the ground running it does take time sometimes, but not many are prepared to give people time these days, great result & performance today pleased Sturridge has got off to a flyer I think some of the accounts of him being greedy may be understandable when he was Chelsea/man city & it may have been due to him trying to keep his place in the team shooting as a oppose to passing (can be a problem in a large squad) & pleased for Henderson the lad has talent & will still need a bit of time to grow & learn, & for those criticising Allen, look at Lucas & Henderson let's support all the players & each other y.n.w.a jft96 keep well keep red
Paisley's genius

Henderson is doing really well, but that is thanks to Rodgers. He said shortly after joining he was looking forward to spending some time on Hendersons game.

Yeah again well done Downing, but also down to Rodgers, who gave him the kick up the bum he must have needed (lets not get to carried away with 2 assists in a season and a half +) but credit due he has stepped up.

Suarez and Enrique also playing well but yet again, BR plays Luis up front and being the main man grows confidence (would have been big AC under Kenny)

Credit BR who is making you post praise about these players not Kenny, as regardless of a few games Hendo and Downing were over priced buys and no one mentioned played like this with Kenny

A.C was KK biggest downfall.

Hi. Got a couple of question for the Eds.

BR have said "If we bring in an experienced player of the right quality, there would be no question of Steven Gerrard getting a boost from it; Luis Suarez, Daniel Agger and the young players would feed off it. That is the importance. If you are going to be up there fighting for titles, you need the right blend."

My questions are:

1. Do you think that FSG will listen to BR and consider this?

2. Have you heard any experienced players that the club is looking at?

Cheers. {Ed052's Note - FSG will buy the players BR wants, who are within reason, e.g. no stupid fees etc. And no, not at the minute. Actually, yes, Sneidjer ;) }

great to see us score 5 today, although it was a bit reminiscent of the fulham match in that they gave us a lot of room to play. great to see a fox in the box at last, instead of seeing crosses fizz across the box and not one liverpool player there. it looks like sturridge and suarez will be a good partnership, hopefully borini willbe fully fit again soon and start scoring although I think it might be next season before he starts to fire properly. downing was good again, starting to show his form again and hendo was a driving force today, really impressed with him, hope he gets a good run of games now.

Brilliant game & performance, Hendo was absolutely superb.

I had Swansea 3 - 1 Stoke, Owen scored last kick of the game to keep my £7, 500 accumulator alive, is it a sign? I damn hope so.

Class, sheer class! Fantastic 5-star performance! Hendo and Stevie were magnificent, Suarez and Sturridge - wow! what a potent strikeforce we have on our hands - their link-up was telepathic! That's 3-in-3 for Sturridge my MOTM & on his Anfield debut! It's happening, folks, it's happening! Singred

The return of the SAS strikeforce hey....reminds me of the days of shearer ada sutton lol

19 Jan 2013 17:02:58
Sturridge looks like he's been here for two seasons! Always going deep to link the ball up. Not as selfish as initially feared, making timely runs to the box when it matters. Great business for 12m pounds! Now a front three of Suarez, Danny and Sterling is amazingly talented.
RedBeer.

I'd stii have borini instead of sterling
jaycee

I'd play downing.. Did I just say that

I'd definitely stick with suarez & sturridge. Then I'd give sterling & borini a fairly even amount of playing time as the 3rd forward because they both draw defenders out of position which creates space for us. Sterling does it with pace & tricks where as borini does it with intelligent running off the ball. slodge

19 Jan 2013 17:02:27
That's why I was so confident after the second half of the Utd game, thought we were different class today, Sturridge is making a massive difference.

12 million for a Chelsea reject, what a waste!
Jordan Henderson? Over rated British player!
Gerrards past it.
What is glen Johnson doing running at defenders? He is supposed to be defending!
One man team Suarez!
God sake playing Norwich and we only bet them 5-0, terrible! ;)

That was the best all round team performance of the season I reckon. Every player put a shift in except Brad Jones, and it says a lot when the keeper has to do next to nothing the entire game. Great confidence boost for the lads, especially Henderson (who was fantastic) and they should all be proud of themselves. Bring on Arsenal.

I know it's against so called weaker opposition but we are a different team when Allen doesn't play.

I really want it to work out for him but it's such a crucial position where he plays you can really tell the difference. Majority of teams have players who either out muscle him or are more aggressive.

Hendo's no world beater but with our squad at the mo I 'd start him over Allen every time

I'll get slated by the Allen lovers now
"Get behind him, you're not a real fan"
It's a banter/discussion site, get over it :)

We won 5-0 because Allen didn't play? Lol oh dear.. I'm sure Allen would of played well against Norwich (no disrespect to them).

London red

To be honest mate, I don't really think it maters if it was hendo or allen in midfield, norwich were so open we would have still spanked them.
huddz red

I honestly think there are games when you must start with allen for ball retention, and games when you play someone else. Getting the balance right is essential
jaycee

I think there is some truth in Bren's statement that he's jaded and needs a break.
All players go through it including Lucas and Hendo.
He's new to the club and he did well at the start of the season. I think the Olympics are catching up with him.
Don't lose faith in him yet.....

M.Aurelius

19 Jan 2013 17:56:23
i think allen could not have scored the goal that hendreson did not because he has bad technique but he will never be in that attacking position outside the box I hope in future he will sort it out.
Ayush

I haven't lost faith nor at any point did I say we won 5-0 because Allen didn't play!

I prefer Hendo at the mo, and yes it depends who we're playing but overall Allen is yet to prove himself.

I hope he comes good (i don't want the club to have wasted £15m!) and i'm sure he will.

It's obvious to me that we're a different proposition without him than with. That's all.

I respect everyones undieing support of the lad but if it's costing us games you have to ask questions.
He started ok and got worse. I hope he's used sparingly now until end od season then hope he kicks on next.

Well done lads! 5 nil... 12 goals last 3 home games.... clean sheet and more than likely last on match of day :-p

Hey lfc fans

Good win

I have a question for the eds...and fans

It seems steven gerrard is still our most creative mid.. Even today all his passes were forward and setting up play

So if he doesn't play..where do you think the creativity is coming from?

Johhny

Suso?
Suarez, if played deeper, with Borini and Sturridge further in front?

Peter M

Lucas

KUMBER

Shelvey BOOOOOM
jaydee ynwa

Yeah, you still get the odd poster still wanting Gerrard benched tho. They know who they are.

The Irish Rover

Suso doesn't have Gerrard's mobility nor lungs. It'd be a complete waste to expect Suarez or Borini to play behind or too close to the half way line. The only alternatives are Allen or Henderson. Or look for one while the window is still open. ra1969

Thanks BR and thank you all the team

Absolutely brilliant performance by the reds. Everyone had a great game even sterling when he came on. Best game of the season for us in my opinion. Needed this result for the games we got coming up. Man of the match is far to hard to say, so I won't even bother. Hopefully borini starts again oldham, he needs a good run out in the team because he can make a difference.

Nay sayers be quiet because i'm enjoying my teams win today.

Think today shows Henderson is in far better form than Allen at the moment and that the system BR plays we need that balance of Lucas, Gerrard and Henderson is excellent!

I'm a big fan of Joe Allen, but Hendo is the man in form, no question. Deserves his place in the side, and what a goal son!

Great to see him hitting the target again. Now all we're waiting for is Downing. All the early chances fell to him and he couldn't hit the target. Brilliant team performance.

I have to laugh at these "Id bring" rumours eg i'd bring torres(no thanks, bad when he left, even worse now), alonso, mascherano . This is not championship manager people. If the latter 2 were actually available then BR might attempt to sign them at the right price. Most people on here would love to play for liverpool but that doesn't mean that every player does. Assist will probably be from Lucas, no one touched the ball between his pass and Suarez collecting it.

He deserves the assist, but agreed it'll go to Lucas. Clever play by Sturridge, good ball by Lucas, great finish by Suarez.

Without exaggerating, I think Sturridge's dummy for Suarez is the best dummy i've ever seen.

Fantastic piece of intelligence.

Oh, great goal from Hendo!

Too cover for a dummy.

Oh you can't have watched Beardsley play much then, he was a master of dummies and nutmegs.

Best ever dummy is Pele for Brazil, dummies the keeper then runs round the keeper and just knocks it past the post from tricky angle-legend!

Hope you're a trolling Utd fan because if you're a Liverpool fan you should be ashamed of putting any sort of negative spin on today.

19 Jan 2013 15:47:45
Ed's any chance of us finding someone to take downing. His touch is dreadful an he is very one dimensional. Would love to get rid of him so our younger and better players can play.

When will you learn to stop foolishly commentating on a player match day performance befor the match is actually finished?

Downings one touch volley accross the 6 yard box was an excellent touch and we finally have a goal Poacher with instincts to get on the end of it.

SpudRed

Downing is a useful squad player IMO, if rogers was looking to sell him he would have done so already. If anyone out of our forwards, assaidi needs to go to make room for someone rogers will actually start. I would like to see a lot more of assaidi but obviously something has happened.

19 Jan 2013 16:02:31
Big question-

So who gets the assist for Suarez's goal?

Lucas? But the pass was to Sturridge, not Luis...

Sturridge? But he didn't touch the ball...

Really think we have the makings of a top young team here. It won't happen this season, and probably not next season but will will make CL soon. The owners need to stick with Rodgers and the fans need to understand he and the team will make mistakes. Most of all we need to keep Suarez, he is a class apart. The future is bright - and I've been saying this all season, nothing to do with today's performance!

Tom Werner's at Anfield today, he's flown over primarily to sit down with Brendan. Can only assume that it's about the transfer window. Especially with comments being made about experience being needed.

I'd throw down a cliché and say that anything can happen in football. Sneijder especially is not done until it's announced by a club that they've signed them. Unlikely is a term to use, but in that there's always the word 'likely'.

Also heard today that the offer for Coutinho is actually an enquiry for loan with option to buy. I'd reckon that's for 'safety' sake.

Great work so far Eds this window, you've been as helpful as always! Keep it up!

If you ever go to watch sport in The States one thing that strikes you is the availability of refreshments.

Why is it that whilst we have American owners and have done for a number of years now it is so frustrating to get served refreshments, either before the match and especially at half time at Anfield?

To stand a chance of getting served at half time you need to leave your seat at least five minutes before the end of the first half (upsetting the people who have to tand up to let you through) to stand in a line in front of some half witted oink who if lucky will serve you.

If you are lucky to get served then you invariably have about minute to eat or drink whatever delights you ave purchased before the second half starts.

In summary with us having American owners and knowing how well they do it " over the pond" why can they not employ more staff behind the counter as surely this would increase the match day revenue and experience greatly?

Jack the Groove

Perhaps we should have 1/4s as well as 1/2 times to give your "half witted oinks" (that's not very nice is it) more time to serve you!!
kidmillions

Yeah and while FSG are at it, why don't they get some Cheerleaders to perform through out the game and have a half time show too, I'd prefer if the game was stopped every five minutes to show a tonne of advertisements also.

Seriously, you're going to Anfield to watch Liverpool play and your biggest concern is not being able to get a hot dog quick enough? How about we sort out problems on the pitch first?

If Rodgers was given £25m for the rest of January and then given £40m in the summer he could be able to get 4 good first team players.

1 striker - £7m
1 attacking midfielder - £10
1 defensive midfielder - £8 (rotate with Lucas until Coady gets in on the act)
1 defender at left back and can play center back - £12

The rest can be used to offer wages and bonuses and anything left can be used for back-up players and youth players.

FSG would make the money back from selling players like Carroll, Downing and maybe Reina if we did sell him. Also the money from TV rights, Ticket sales, Prize money and If we get a champions league place. Which if Liverpool play as good as they can play then we should easily get 4th place.

Why didn't you get the managers job? We would be 20pts clear by now.

Like FSG's strategy of not spending other than what comes in from sales, reducing the wage bill anyway they can, while stripping the club of the little quality we have, all in the hope the LFC youth system will support us and take us into the top 4. {Ed002's Note - I thought the Liverpool fans were meant to be knowledgeable?}

Hi Eds

Just a question about our transfer policy.

The media are always stating that FSG have a policy of only buying players aged 25 or under, which has been denied by Ian Ayre and Brendan Rogers in the past.

Yet we have seen both Rogers and Steven Gerrard talking about the need for experience.

Do the Eds know if there are restrictions as to what players we can buy based on age? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know what this "policy" is.}

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has conceded that the club need to bring in a couple of experienced players during the transfer window.

wesley sneijder maybe?

I heard its kaka

I heard Tiki Taka

Id bring either alonso back or mascherano to partner lucas because are defensive midfield is poor this season.

Hope we get him then we can play tika taka kaka !

All this talk about sneijder or Coutinho for the CAM role, I think we should give the opportunity to Suso and Shelvey, and maybe Gerrard taking the role now and again for the bigger games.

This money can be used for better prospects.

IMH

IMO I think all this talk about these players are just media induced rubbish. I can't see inter selling Coutinho if they sell Sneijder (which looks 100% certain).
I can see LFC signing one more player but I can't see it being either of them two players.

FowlerGod.

Our team is already brimming with prospects, even the senior players are coming out and saying we need experienced players right now.

Jed

Work permit issues notwithstanding coutinho would be a good aquisition for us (assuming we have even bid) he possesses great vision & has got the imagination to unlock stubborn defences, would like to see him in red a kind of brazilian terry mcdermott..thanks to the eds for their continued patience & work, keep well keep red! Y.n.w.a jft96
Paisley's genius

The way our season is going we really need to pick up and go on a run till the end of the season and that is way too much pressure to put on younger players like suso and shelvey in our No10 role as they would be expected an goal or an assist each game. An experienced head who was done it before is needed, particularly one who can get the best out of both Suarez and Gerrard and hopefully provide another matchwinner in our team.

I was in a restaurant in Heswall, Wirral last night and Paul Ince was in there with his wife. I didn't speak to him myself but I did hear him telling somebody else that he didn't think Tom would move anywhere this month.

Do you think this is his only window to sign for us Eds? (I.e. if we can't have him now we will get somebody else instead and forget him altogether).

Also I personally don't expect much to happen until the last couple of days of the window, when the usual madness and merry go round happens. I note BR said as much yesterday and also Wenger said players become cheaper towards the end of the window as selling clubs realise they have to let go. I guess then there will be a lot more names linked between now and then Eds!

Re: Rodgers V Kenny.

Look, I love King Kenny and will defend him to the end, but he's not manager anymore and without a change in ownership and another short term backward step, he's not going to be manager again.
The reason we're in transition from Kenny to Rodgers is not because we've drastically changed football tactics from KD to BR, but we have changed personnel.
In my opinion we are in "managed decline". We are taking a backward step in order to take a huge forward leap in the future. Part of that process involves chopping away all the older experienced squad players and bringing through all the young inexperienced players we have developed.
That requires a backward step and that is where we're at.
Gone are the days of signing Downing, Cole, Adam, Poulsen etc. If we stuck to that plan our talented youngsters would never get a chance in the first team and would never get experience needed.
I'm yet to be won over by Rodgers and I think the
road to the top 4 will be very tough, but I see the vision and it makes sense to me. Every draw/defeat I'm desperately trying to tell myself is a good lesson, and every win is a big confidence boost.
Confidence and experience are the 2 things we're short on, but they will only come with time, patience and inconsistent results.
Strap yourselves in for a bumpy but necessary ride.

Marcus Aurelius

A very good and balanced argument, you should post more often. The reason we aren't in the top 4 is because our squad as a whole isn't good enough. We have some players such as agger, suarez, gerrard (contrary to popular belief at the minute), johnson, skrtel etc. who would grace any of the top 4 teams so we have a great spine. We now just need to add quality; allen, borini, sturridge, sterling, suso, hendo, shelvey, coate, s robbo, yesil etc. could become thoses players but they need time to develop. I am still of the opinion that we are only 2 or 3 good players away from a top 4.

Hello eds and reds I saw earlier on that one of the eds said that the stadium could only be expanded to 60k. And that it isn't possible to expand it further in the future to 70k is this true ed. Antrim Red {Ed002's Note - Sort of. The 60k limit is there because expending beyond that would incure significant costs for the club to incur in terms of additional improvements to the infrastructure and transportation links.}

Do you believe that we will ever expand to over 60k so we can compete the mancs. Antrim Red {Ed002's Note - Liverpool's stadium plans are nothing to do with Manchester United.}

I think we will go to 60k like the ed says then see how that goes for a decade or 2. If we can still expand further we might improve transport links etc and make the leap.
I remember an ed or maybe a poster saying attendances at games may decrease in the coming years due to prices, good Internet streaming etc.
We might be able to fill 70k seats now especially in bigger games but what happens in 10 years time and we can't even get 50k at anfield? We have a big empty expensive stadium to run and that's no good to Liverpool in the long term.
Anyway a 60k anfield is going to be great.

I read a lot lately saying shirt sales do not go to Liverpool FC. Who do they go to?

Golfzilla {Ed002's Note - The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Warrior, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}

This may sound daft
But why don't Liverpool make there own shirt with there own brand, distribute and sell themselves, or do warrior make a big loss on the deal just to get there name out there?
Paul the red {Ed002's Note - Warrior has admitted that it is unlikely they will get their investment back but are using it as a loss leader to get other clubs interested in their products. I am pretty sure Liverpool as no plans to go into dressmaking at this time. Back in the 1800s Seattle had something like 3,000 registered "seamstresses".}

Eds,

But Lfc do get money out of the brand they use don't they. I heard 25m a year for the deal with warrior sports.

....and people pilloried me about BR showing this man too much respect at the end of the game.....you guys just don't get it do you?

To be fair, old whiskey nose knows how to deal with troublesome players: Cantona, Keane. 2 players who've done far worse than anything Luis has done. (not that I condone the Evra incident, I don't)
Fergie never sold Cantona and Keane until their legs had gone and we should follow his example, not his poisonous words, and keep Luis until his legs have gone(5-6 years)

We'll Marshy in all fairness had BR had an argument with ferguson the ap*e licking media would've put rodgers in dim light damaging his and our clubs image.

Hey Eds, great info coming our way as usual. I wish people would stop talking about money when they have very little grasp of what they are saying though. Tax laws, bonuses, wages, agent fees, etc all need to be taken into account. It's not the transfer fee that really matters.
Nice to see BR talking about experience, he's spot on about needing that boost for the second half of the season, just as Gerrard said earlier.
Are we to take it that our next signing could therefore be an experienced player?

So, both Gerrard and Suarez have recently mentioned getting in more experienced players. Now a couple of days later, BR goes against the grain and says likewise.
Is it tail wagging dog ?

Or simply a hint at the policy the club have.
Get the youth in and then back them up with some experience. Sounds good to me

Look its like this if liverpool shouted from the rooftops we, are trying for this player and that player then you would have the likes of the spuds Man Utd ect coming in and stealing them or upping the price, it has to be kept quiet.as for stevie coming out with what he said he was probably told to say it.i believe it has always been the plan to fetch some experienced talent in this window and still believe it will happen, like the eds say one more signing and one on loan lets wait and see is it.

Let in a lot of sloppy goals maybe we need new defenders and a GK with a clear mind

Begovic is a good shout and a defender that has a loud voice and a leader like kompany we need in the summer

Well said lad
reina has to be moved on
johnson is a really poor defender he's a liability,
enruique can't defend
skrtyl is error prone
agger is the pick of them but even he is not world class

majestic69

19 Jan 2013 12:27:20
What?

Reina - Bad patch, wouldn't sell at his age because he will come good again.
Johnson - Only "journo's" say he can't defend because he attacks so well, his positioning and, when needed, tackling are above the average full back.
Enrique - Similar to the above, I just get frustrated he punts a ball every now and again, but to balance that he can hit a 40 yard pass as well.
Skerts and Agger - By far the best two Central defenders in England and both could walk into Barca, RM or PSG's team tomorrow.

We're conceding because of our style of play, not our personel. And that's not a dig at BR, we just need to realise our chances up front to move on.

Reinas been in bad form for a while IMO, we never sell players at the right time (apart from torres) maybe this is the right time for reina to go while we can get good money for him.
Johnsons defending is average at best, his positioning and tracking back is very poor. He is a good attacker and that's why he is playing at such a high level.
Enriques main problem is his inconsistency, when he's on form he picks up man of the match awards easily and looks world class, the next match he is a complete liability.
Agger and skrtle are decent enough for me, not one of the best defensive partnerships we have ever had but not enough of a problem to start messing about with it. We have some great youth centre backs coming through that will eventually replace them anyway so I see little point in getting in replacements.

Hi Eds

Although I am in agreement with you that the Sneider transfer won't go through, part of me holds out a small hope that it does, even if its to show some members of the squad ( namely Suarez) that we do match his ambitions and can attract the major players still.. Guess we'll have to on that one.

My question is how highly do you rate Tom Ince and is he needed in January ? We have a number of players that can play in the wider roles ( downing, Sterling, Suso, Assaidi, Stevie G, Enrique) at least until the summer transfer window where we might be in a position to use the money with greater impact. My thinking would be to avoid buying Ince and maybe moving our attentions to Gaston Ramires, which we could potentially get at a cut down price should the saints go down ? That's one potential option at least..

My preference for the summer, although potentially unrealistic, would be Eriksen of Ajax, he never stops moving and makes things happen, plus he fits into the young player FSG are always specifically saying is needed.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the above and keep up the good work !

Ryan in Oz {Ed052's Note - I neither rate ot yhink4 that we need Ince. He has improved massively since he went to Blackpool, but he isn't tearing up the championship by any stretch of the imagination. When he has played against Premiership teams this season, he has been poor again. But I neither think we need him at this momeng intime. We have around 6 or 7 players who can play in our front three, with a mixture of pace, flair, age and goals. I dont see what hewould add towhat we already havr}

19 Jan 2013 10:32:08
With Stevie Suarez and now the manager all pushing for quality experienced signings Eds who do you think would be available? You all are certain it won't be Sneijder Lampard or Torres so I speak for all the fans in asking who? Come on Eds your keeping something from us ! DBol {Ed002's Note - I'll stick with what I have said all along.}

19 Jan 2013 10:31:36
Coutinho would be a better alternative to ince.. Plus it would allow us to let assasidi go for about 4-5m.. However sneijder is there for the taking.. We are talking about a real top player.. By the way if sneijder and coutinho came we should let downing go which would balance the books to a reasonable level.

i don't get why people on here keep saying "so called fans" just because they have a dig at the club or manger. every fan of any football clubs take digs all the time that's just the way it is in football. not everyone agrees the way there football clubs are being run or manged. what a few of you need to think about before you have a go at the so called fans is when you surpport a club like lfc they expect the club to be winning and bringing in the best players that are about. as nether are happening and changes are happening a lot of fans are just not taken to it. the liverpool job as a manger is one of biggest you can get in football and as br as not really got the cv for a job like this the fans are worryed.
stu

Well the fact is that we all want to see liverpool finish top of the league and get in top players in but the reality is that we are a fair way off that at the minute.
There are some people who take everything for granted. Signing the likes of sjneider will be a massive bonus but some people see that if we don't it is the owners not backing the manager, which simply isn't the case.
When a player breaks into the team at 17, that is a massive bonus but now people are getting on Sterlings back when he doesn't perform like a top class winger. I think he got shortlisted for Gary Neville's team of the Year so far. That is a massive bonus.
The fact is that people are always looking for what is wrong rather than the positives aspects of this club. It seems they even want us to get beat, just as an excuse to rant about how FSG and BR should go out as well as dropping Gerrard selling downing, hendo, allen etc. Thay are not true fans.
derryred

Probably because this is the time that the fans need to unite in adversity. The club needs the fans to pull together more than ever at this moment in time. The more people that have a go, the more difficult the job becomes. We would all love Falcao, but it isn't going to happen. We need to support the players we have got, and hope that the club strengthens over the next few windows. Sacking the manager or whinging at the owners won't help, it will only set us back further and make the road more difficult.
Just my opinion.

Healthy Disagreement

I am not sure if I admire BR more for coming out and saying he has had a healthy disagreement with the owners over the transfer policy (BR recognises the need for signing experienced players as well the youngster we have bought or brought in)

I just hope it doesn't become an unhealthy disagreement like the rafa and G&H relationship

It is obvious the pressure and cracks have begun to show with BR (league position / Suarez sagas / Scrutiny of his signings - Allen and borini form / Sahin and Assaidi situations / thin squad vs strategy to strengthen)

I think he needs the support of fans more than ever
If the fans turn on him it will be bad news for the club

A good win today will definitely change the mood all round

Coutinho might be a good player for the future but LFC need to stop buying players that need a few years to get to the level where we can be top 4 again. We need to sign players that are experienced first team players like SNIEJDER. We should try our upmost to sign him to come in and make a impact straight away. Coutinho will be on and off the bench. Sneijder will be a key player

I would imagine Sneijder would have very little time for playing at all, what with all the time he will spend counting the money we would have to pay to get him. Rather have Coutinho!

Here we are again approaching the end of another transfer window and we're panicking our way around europe scratting around for a last minute deal. Why can't we sort more deals in the same manner as the Sturridge deal?- straight in.
Eds please enlighten me. What is it about transfer deals that makes the process so long? The stereotype of many players being mentally simple may actually be true but are the agents and club representatives as unintelligent? Surely negotiations and paperwork shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to do? I mean what is there really? The player, club and agents have to agree on a fee and contract, with its clauses etc and then submit the necessary paperwork to the FA? What else lare they actually doing? Ok, I maybe have belittled the amount of paperwork but seriously, unless your r*******, it shouldn't take very long to fill in some details.

Why don't we just go out and buy players if we big on players and they are a big name signing we will get the money back we paid for him from shirt sales and stuff plus we will end up finishing higher in the league which means more prize money at the end of the season and we could qualify for champions league which would bring in even more money so to me it's all worth it to go and buy big and get the dead wood out like downing, Allen, assiadi, Coates, Pacheco, Wilson and Carroll.

Remember that the 'ship named' Liverpool has been sailing in the wrong direction for a few years.

BR must turn the almighty Liverpool ship around before we can steam ahead in the right direction.

That transition includes buying players that make financial sense for now, then we can create momentum towards the top 4. Only then, will we attract a variety of World Class players.

How long are you prepared to wait for the return of Champions League football at Anfield? 1 year, 2 years, 3?

BR is on course and we need to judge him at season's end, when we can expect the ship to be back on course.

BR has stated that it may take 3 years for a Liverpool return to greatness. As much as I would like for it to be quicker, I think of how good it will feel to be on board at that time, with everything that is good, directly in front of us.

Levans.

I don' believe a manager has 3 years to get it right these days. It was different in Shank's day. BR's comments yesterday about his fight with FSG to get experienced players is revealing. The owners need to get real and back the manager

Another die hard BR supporter. KK did turn the ship in the right direction and we were playing good football, beating top sides and looking like we could win against anybody. We finished the season badly but everyone knew we needed some better frontment over th summer and we were almost there. BR has come in and decided to turn the ship again and in a completely different direction. It has taken him 6 months to realise that all the players KK bought were actually ok, and now he is playing them with better results than earlier in the season.
However, he has wasted the best part of 30M on players that are not good enough (Assaidi, Allen, Borini). We have not beaten a team in the top 10. When has that EVER happened at LFC ?
We do not look like beating a team in the top 10 which is more worrying.
Apart from the 6 months in charge under Roy Hodgson, this is the worst ever season I can remember being a LFC fan (since 1977) both for the league position and most importantly the quality of football played.
Can anyone really say that the current manager inspires the fans that he has the knowledge and technical know how to bring back the success to this club ?
G

Had a discussion at work with mates and predicted
this season finish 6th - 8th
next season 4th - 6th
season 14/15 champions league
season 15/16 challenge for title
i would sooner wait and challenge for years to come rather than a quick fix and have to start 5 years down the line. my mates slated me saying rogers wasnt up to the job but the second half last week showed what we can play like we just need to turn up for 90 mins week in week out but this will take time to build the squad required for this without spending stupid money and as we've proved with some of our signings it doesn't always workout.

Hi Ed's and fellow reds
Once again - thanks to all the Ed's for your unstoppable effort.
No rumours, just some general comments on some of the posts + 1 question.
A lot of boring posts here about known and unknown players from all corners of the world. But then again - it's a rumours page;-)

I have to say that I'm starting to get pretty tired of all the fuzz around Thomas Ince. After all that have been said and written about Ince Jr. & Sr & Blackpool & LFC lately, I don't believe he will be joining us. Not now, and not later.
And honestly, - I really don't care.
I don't consider him as good as some people in here seem to think. And I don't think the winger position is critical for us anymore either.

I agree with Macca that Wesley Sneijder would be an unbelievable signing if we're able to pull it off.
I join the masses that are dreaming of this, but we just have to wait and see.
But I do share the concern some posts here have expressed that certain clubs in Manchester or London will wake up if LFC should be closing in on Sneijder.
I think there's a pretty good chance that Sneijder would accept an offer from LFC, but if the clubs I mentioned above contributes to increased interest around him, it can easily change the whole picture.
I believe Sneijder when he says that he's willing to reduce his wages if he gets to play in the PL.

Just one question for the Ed's; If this ends up with a bid from LFC that Sneijder can accept - How real is the threat - that some of the clubs I mentioned - will renew their interest and snap Sneijder in front of us?

YNWA!

RedHoffa {Ed002's Note - If Sneijder were to accept his wages being more than halved then I would expect there will be interest from a number of other clubs.}

Agree.
I think this is the press just building it up so to cut us down again when Spurs or man united get him. They will have another field day mocking and belittling our great club
I don't think his wife would want to come to Liverpool anyway, even if we can agree deal with him

You Rogers haters are a strange breed of fans. The guy is doing reasonably well considering what he was made to work with this season. Granted we arent 4th or higher yet but the push is on, we are seeing much better football in every game. We have a striker who is looking more and more like a world class player every week and we have a team of youthful exciting players.

At least wait 1 full season before you don the "Out banners".

Noshbag mate one season is not going to break or make our season the pace which we are buiiding nothing is going to change next season unless major changes happen or else forget top4 for 5-7 years, teams above us are already strong and have financial clout to blow us at the sametime they can choose players where we wait for players which are left

Whenever the majority of our squad are players of the future, is there really any sense in judging them now.

Hi Ed's,

What is your take on Danny Wilson?

I know we brought him and a lot was expected; I also believe we brought him to play in England between the ages of 18 - 21 so he counted as home grown; would the loan to Hearts put an end to that?

Hoola

P.S. replied to a few posts this week (one on the losses and stadium) from my work address - didn't get posted; not sure if it was because it wasn't recognised, irrelevent or just bored you to tears ;o) ). {Ed002's Note - I suspect the club will let Wilson go in the summer. I have not noticed other posts from you so perhaps you work blocked the posts.}

Ed2 - do you believe that the liverpool owners are broke? Someone on twitter asked Henry to buy sniejder and he replied I'm broke and then deleted the tweet {Ed002's Note - If it was on Twitter it has to be true.}

"OK Theo, you've finally signed the contract, now, back to the wing" - Arsene.

Would love kenny to cOme back as manager
Doesnt feel like liverPool at the moment
Love the club but no connection with the manager and fans at the moment

Cone back kenny

Show him some respect and have some patients and we will see what happens.
A true LFC supporter does not slate the manager while still a manager

Yeah if only he was here to buy le fondre for 40 million

I'd rather look forward to be honest!

Mike S

"Cone back kenny"

CoNe but not forgotten.

He won't be back as manager, but he will always be our King.

i believe BR won't get btter players in because he can't coach them, we have so called targets, but we don't know these targets, who they are what experience they have or their quality, to me I backed BR at 1st but after letting so many good players go to other teams then I started to worry for our great team, we has liverpool should expect better players than allen or borini, dempset who we neve got thank god anf the sig, who all where ok for swansea, but no way on this planet are they good enough for liverpool football club, what the owners and BR have done is lowered our expectations, if we carry on buying mediocre players hoping they get better then we are in for a big fall, all
BR is doing is doing what he knows and that is buying players for the likes of swansea and reading, can anyone come on here and say they accept the players bought by BR are liverpool football club type of players, I say they are not, and from now untill the owners leave they will buy 1 or 2 players per window, you have heard it here of me mickey be 1st

mickey b

I really don't care about expierence.. I care about quality.. We are not doing as well as we should not because of young players but because of not enough quality.. Allen wouldn't get near any of our rivals midfield.. Downing although not as bad wouldn't either.. Suso and sterling will be top players but would they get playing every week at any of our rivals.. Probably not.. Sneijder is such a great player that he could have a massive impact if he came but not because of his age it's his class.. If hazard or mata etc had of come they both would of had a similar impact.. If they don't want to buy sneijder due to age they are very foolish but two alternatives would be Isco or eriksen but they will cost a lot more!

Mickeyb mate Rodgers is inexperience if we start bringing some experience players then the situation is going to be like Avb at chelsea, Rodgers neither can attract class players or convince class players that he is right man to manage them, Rodgers has long way to go before he gets respect from class players or some of our fans, don't forget he has only one year of experience in Bpl at best he should be our reserve coach but our owners decided to appoint him as our manager

Are you saying that only BR`s signings are not LFC standard? I`m afraid if you are you`re wrong. Look at the money wasted by KK for a start, spent wisely that should have set us on the right path, it didn`t and we have gone way backwards.
LFC squad has probably 5 or 6 players that should be there.
Matt b

There wad a time when all we had was ngog upfront, poulsen in the midfield and konchesky on the wing

Stop being a spoilt brat

What "great" players has BR let go?

Mike S

To be fair I could list many recent managers of LFC that have bought poorly!!

Who have all had different owners !

Being in Australia eds I don't really know what's going on with the game against Norwich. Does it look like it will go on or postponed? Could you share some light on it please {Ed002's Note - I can't help sorry. In most cases if there are issues with local transport and access then the police will advise against games going ahead.}

pre season 2011-2012 we were supposed to be chasing moussa sissiko as steven gerrards replacement. rumours suggest he is available for approx 2.5 million. at the time we were prepared to pay 15 million.

surely this cannot be a gamble or do we pay over the odds when some lesser team take the oppertunity to buy him and then sell to us for a massive profit. fed up paying over the odds for average players. someone on the scouting needs to brought to to task, when was the last bargain Gary McCallister.

Seems like a fair point

My two cents on Sneijder:

Great talent. Likes money, but who doesn't. I don't blame him for not wanting to take a salary cut from Inter. How many of you working would voluntarily take a pay cut? Its not like they were lowering wages to help a third world country.

In meantime, while he is a talent, and would do well in red, all signs are pointing to Spurs signing him. They are in contention for CL. They play exciting football. They need a replacement for Modric, and Dembele is not quite the one. They clearly can pay high wages. Finally, Spurs love Liverpool targets.

Sneijder to Spurs. Bank on it.

Redder than Red

The thing is although sneijder is holding out for a spurs move! Spurs are not rushing to sign the player? Eriksen is another who has hinted that he also favoures a spurs move? But that's probably a summer thing? I'm told their no1 target is moutinho and by all accounts it might and should happen? If not then they will turn their attentions to eriksen? But schnijder is probably their third choice?

Dembele is world class.. What are you talking about plus he can play anywhere!

Borini, Suarez and Sturridge to run riot tomorrow v Norwich. Needs to play joe Allen to boost his confidence, the boy is a great player but suffering liverpool 1st year jitters which has affected all signings over last 3-4yrs bar Suarez. If you don't believe me just ask joe cole, Carroll, Enrique, Lucas, Adam, downing, Henderson, aquilani, Coates, borini, assasidi, sahin, jovanevic, konchesky, etc etc
The realisation of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world with a history of unbelievable success definitely affects the modern day players who sign for us. Each one of those mentioned was a big success for their previous team and we need to get behind every single one of them and BR to give them the confidence to get even better. It's not hard fans just back them all.

Why does Allen deserve to play.. Henderson is playing better than him.

I agree, Henderson is playing better, but they do different things, and would cause the team to be set up in different ways. When you're looking at little picture, don't forget the big picture!

Hi everyone, big liverpool fan

Do you think that lfc need to buy more players?

Good job with the site eds, i'm going to watch my beloved club tomorrow and can't wait

I don't think we do.

I think we need to see how this lot develop over the 2nd half of the season then reassess in Summer.

Too many fans are obsessed with new players.
