Hi Ed, to be fair Utd won leagues year after year on the back of scrappy wins like that.

I agree with Kevin Kilbane's comment that if a team was ever going to score it was Liverpool. Hard game against a good team at a difficult ground to play, well played the reds!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i will have that statto mate..

20 Dec 2016 00:51:31
Cheers for saying that ed 025

I thought that was a hard fought game that probably deserved a draw for both sides.

As it stands, that's a very important result for the club. Whatever happens with Studge this season, he's made a big impact on that game and we need him to stay. Thanks to the red machine tonight.

Made us all proud.

{Ed025's Note - you have a good side mate and an excellent manager, good luck for the new year..

19 Dec 2016 23:15:15
The much maligned trio of Klaven, Migs and Lovern have kept two clean sheets in back to back away games. Felt we looked fairly solid tonight and I am pleased they all performed well tonight doing all that was asked of them.
Given Everton were unbeaten at home since March, that was a decent, hard earned result. Well done to all the lads.
Seasons greetings to all reds and the Eds. Hope you all have a peaceful Xmas and fingers crossed we push on again from Tuesday and into the New Year. Much love x.

{Ed025's Note - and you bobby..

19 Dec 2016 23:09:47
Those saying Hendo shouldn't be our captain just watch his reaction to a horror tackle from Barkley. Class reaction from a class fella.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - and what was that reaction pip if you dont mind me asking mate?

19 Dec 2016 23:32:09
To say he's a good lad and it was mis timed. Rather than what it actually was which was a dirty tackle from an inferior player.

{Ed025's Note - oh right, respect to him for that even though it was a diabolical challenge he should have got a red imo..

19 Dec 2016 23:36:16
He did not roll around of try to get Barkley sent off and the talk after the game with the press was class. Unlike Koeman crying about the ref.

{Ed025's Note - hes a decent bloke hendo..crap at footy..but a damned nice bloke.. :)

20 Dec 2016 00:03:54
He's works hard that's good he can pass the ball 50 yards to and has a great shot on him like the goal against Chelsea but being Everton fan you think Barry a great player. Banter.

20 Dec 2016 00:24:20
Hendo is class, such an underared player. I'm happy for other teams to underestimate him he's better than anything the blue noses have in midfield and proved it tonight.

20 Dec 2016 02:45:30
Hendo is fit as f@#k.

Barkley could have ended thel ads career with that tacklfor. He should be banned fir 8 games. It bordered on assault.

Although a great second half the first showed us slightly hesitant but we defended better as a group

I thought when llana came back in around the centre circle to recieve the ball he was too slow in putting out to the wing where Klyne had made his run.

In previous posts I've said what an impact player Sturridge could be to frighten tired defenders in the last half hour and he wss unlucky not to score but thank God SUPERMANNE was quickest to react even though Everton set out to batter him all game.

I thought young Origi has had better games and will have again though Sturridge back challenging him in training should perk him up.

I loved Klopps reaction to the goal.
He's a red through and through alright.

Sorry for the long winded post but we are back
If any of us were offered 2nd at Xmas at the start of the season we'd have grabbed it with both hands.

20 Dec 2016 01:01:26
All the blues around me in the everton end were up in arms at that challenge, they couldn't work out what was wrong with it and it was obviously a referreeing conspiracy against them.

{Ed025's Note - then they are idiots wooly..

19 Dec 2016 23:09:33
Superb performance from the lads and great great win. Klavan and Lovren were both outstanding today and Mane, we'll surely miss him in January but glad Daniel is back and hope Couts also next week. Happy xmas to everyone.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - it was not a superb performance salim, you probably deserved it in a scrappy game, but if you think that was superb then its a sad indictment of how far you have fallen from grace mate..

19 Dec 2016 23:24:55
Love it Ed 25! The bitters living up to their name!

{Ed025's Note - thats not bitterness pip..its realism in a world of rose tinted glasses mate..

19 Dec 2016 23:43:23
Happy xmas to you Salim, don't worry about the bitter reply. It wasn't a superb performance but we wholeheartedly deserved it.

{Ed025's Note - then why are you calling me bitter if i was telling the truth...idiot!!

20 Dec 2016 00:15:11
The game was pretty dull devoid any flair in the first half from our side. Everton were playing with very good controlled aggression and it took a toll in the 2nd half where we were just above.

Not sure if they took pedal off the gas or it was a deliberate tactic to score on the counter. It did not work and the goal in extra time deflated them completely.

From our side, Firminio was a passenger last time and this time he did have two attempts to say the least. One from the corner and the other I don't recollect.

Wijnaldum - I am not sure what his role in the team. Did not even see him most of the game except when he got the ball he took it away from Everton's goal instead.

Lallana . nothing much to show except some turns thrice or four time in the 2nd half. But did more than Firminio and Wijnaldum combined.

Hendo is playing quite deep and takes up the position of center half in a 3 man defense and Klavan and Lovern are on his side. Looks like this is a ploy to push Clyne and Milner further up.

I don't think we can see the dashing Hendo of 2014 anymore as his role is more subdued and is being used as more of defensive mid allowing Wijnaldum and Lallana to go further up.

Klavan was decent and Lovern was OK.

Clyne and Milner were very average and Origi was not helped by pushing/ positioning him in the right.

It was a dull game from Heavy Metal football of Klopp's standards but he was saved by some little spark from Sturridge for taking that shot and quick thinking from Mane to go for it.

Actually that impulse to go towards the goal anticipating a chance come natural to few strikers like Suarez and other top pros. But it was good from Mane who put it a good shift and got the apt reward.

sorry for the long post.

Cheers.

20 Dec 2016 00:46:54
One of Firminho's shots was a blistering volley which Robles did well to keep out.

20 Dec 2016 02:01:00
It's a derby, Sami. If you were expecting great football then you will be disappointed every time at a derby game as only the result matters. Nothing more.

20 Dec 2016 02:52:03
Well said Hamilton.
Any win at Goodison is special.

You'd think it was Christmas.

20 Dec 2016 04:20:19
1-0 away to everton, perfect result.

20 Dec 2016 00:04:34
you've misunderstood me mate, there's no need for your reply to dampen our spirits after a great win. I'm the idiot when you think hendo is an awful player, he'd start over every midfielder at Everton. happyy xmas ed25 :].

{Ed025's Note - maybe not gana mate, have a great holiday..

19 Dec 2016 23:04:32
What a brilliant win, absolutely buzzing after that. Thought we deserved to win, they offered nothing in the second half. Klavan was MOTM for me, big game for him up against Lukaku and he dealt with him with ease. Sturridge was the difference, he showed his class when it matters. Mane was quite throughout but he came up with the goal, he's having a brilliant season. Someone who rarely gets credit, wijnaldum was very effective tonight. YNWA.

19 Dec 2016 23:02:29
LOL no one even try compare Barkley to Henderson unless of course you are joking. Is Barkley the new Walcott for the next 10 years (potential) lol.
Sorry but Henderson is miles ahead, Barkley should look upto him and will maybe just maybe improve his game, however no chance of a comparison between the two. Barkley could be compared to Charlie Adam or Livermore of Hull.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i have to say that ross was woeful tonight alsky, total waste of space but i do have to ask you if henderson was actually playing tonight mate?, another perrenial under achiever..

19 Dec 2016 23:33:57
Lol Ed025 yea Henderson was playing. He is the one that could have had his ankle brocken by Mr Barkley lol. Tbh weren't the greatest of games Everton had the first 35mins then after that was mostly Liverpool but with no real threat, was frustrating up until the moment Mane scored then it was relief. 3 points is 3 points though hey.
Also I got to be honest you got me at perennial looool.

{Ed025's Note - that was a bloody awful challenge by ross alsky and he should have been sent off, you surely have to admit that im right about hendo now though mate..nice fella but a dire footballer..

19 Dec 2016 23:55:40
Hendo is a fine footballer. He's the player that let's the others do their flashy jobs by keeping calm, spreading around the ball and anchoring the attack as well as starting the defense. To compare to the recent Spanish WC and Euro winning team, he's like Marcos Senna - easy to overlook surrounded by the flair of much more talented players but boy do you notice what is missing when he's not there.

20 Dec 2016 00:02:50
Haha I give you 10 out of 10 for trying to convince me, but we're going to have to agree to disagree mate. I actually like Henderson I know he don't score half as much as he should but I've seen that we play much better with him in the team as appose to when he is not available. I know a lot will talk about Gerrards slip costing Liverpool the prem title but I think it was more Hendersons 3 game ban that cost us more. I'm not saying he is amazing and one of the worlds best, but I feel more confident of a result when he is playing. I don't leave many messages on the page, so while I'm here merry Christmas and happy new year to you and all the other Eds. You all do a fantastic job and I am always here checking the page at least 10 times a day, great for news and a good laugh haha. Have a great 2017 everyone.

{Ed025's Note - its ok to disagree alsky, it would be a dull old world mate if we all thought the same, have a good one fella..

20 Dec 2016 02:05:57
Ed, Hendo is a very good player and has proved himself at LFC after being slated and being on the verge of being sent off to Fulham. He was was critical to our title push in 2014 and rose to being club captain . These aren't rose tinted comments. These are facts. Do get back to us the day Barkley achieves even a quarter of what Hendo has become. Till then, you are just blowing smoke, bro.

{Ed025's Note - if you can list his achievements i would be very grateful hamilton, yes hes industrious but that wont win you anything without quality and hes devoid of it mate..

20 Dec 2016 04:54:44
Ed025…. you are so right in terms of talent but the difference between Hend and Bark is that Hendo is a way better professional and makes the most of what he has. Barkley needs to knuckle down or move. Not to stir the pot, but Barkley would do great with someone like Klopp. And again, that wasn't mean't as an anti-everton comment. I didn't grow up in Liverpool. Pool is my team and I want to always finish above Everton but Martinez just pandered to players and Koeman has inherited that mess.

{Ed025's Note - im with you all the way on that RJB mate..

So much class from Hendo in post match interview.
Puts thug Barkley to shame!

Well done lads.

19 Dec 2016 22:13:33
Thought both teams were awful tonight. Wijnaldum in particular had a stinker. None the less this win pleases me more than any other this season. Ed1 if you don't mind please. What was the latest sturridge injury?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - not sure mate, all I know is it was his calf, but no details.}

19 Dec 2016 22:20:25
What was so wrong with Gini. feisty fast paced game. 3 points. Merry Christmas Reds and eds. see you boxing day.

19 Dec 2016 22:31:45
Wijnaldum stinker? Thought he was one of our stand out players, kept it neat and tidy in a scrappy game. Held up well.

19 Dec 2016 22:42:51
Gini played well imo. First merseysode derby and all. Many have lost their heads in heated battle, but he kept his cool and was steady, if not spectacular. Not sure wheee his goal threat has been this season but he is doing a decent job miblbing the ball, defending and most important, Klopp believes in hkm.

19 Dec 2016 23:01:13
Had to read that twice thought Sturridge was injured again for a second! GW played well understated performer. There were worse performers but like you say a good win indeed.

19 Dec 2016 23:17:38
Haven't been his biggest fan so far this season but I'm with the others in saying his was one of the calmest heads out there, recycling the ball well and playing some neat first time passes. He just seriously needs to work on his shooting though like Coop said.

19 Dec 2016 23:21:34
Gini's experience was vital today as he a, ways kept his head and was tidy in possession. I liked him a lot today, along with Klavan, who was outstanding.

19 Dec 2016 23:32:09
Wijnaldum was man of the match in my opinion. Kept the ball flowing all game and hardly wasted a ball. Every move we put together went through him. Not sure what match you were watching, mate.

19 Dec 2016 23:34:32
I thought Gini was terrible tonight he was so rusty it's unreal but not bothered, we won, 3 points on to the next.

19 Dec 2016 22:10:07
After reading a debate on the rumours page of this site between Barkley and Henderson I think the match illustrated everything that needs to be said. Horrendous challenge by Barkley, moments later Henderson had the perfect chance to clatter him, yet he simply nicks the ball away. Great maturity, him and Gini kept the ball well and played it nice and simple to keep the crowd quiet. Mane was electric too and say what you will Sturridge has a habit of making things happen one way or another.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he was given an absolute lesson by a far better player. Barkley is just an overrated drunk.}

19 Dec 2016 22:20:49
Barkley proved a lot of points made about him tonight including his native ability and his thuggish tendancies but one moment stuck out for me; about 20 minutes in they had every player except the GK in our half, piling on the pressure, our defense was beginning to shake and he got the ball at the corner of the box, 35 yards out. Instead of continuing to pull us around, or try and play in a teammate, he aims for the tiny square of goal he could see from that distance, with 2 LFC players en route, and completely wastes the pressure and the chance. That to me is him in a nutshell - much like Whilshere, he's not matured a moment past the talented 20 year old we saw years before and all that's happened since is loosing the innocence behind the wild moves. Sadly, another career of a talented English player likely to be wasted by being treated like a member of the x-factor generation.

19 Dec 2016 22:45:58
Trying all his life emulating Steven gerrard while the reality is he wouldn't lace the boots of Gerrard.

20 Dec 2016 02:12:35
His boots? He can't even wash SG's car he's that awful.

19 Dec 2016 22:12:11
Excellent win, a lot of grit in it and not so much quality but getting the result, keeping pushing until the end, was admirable. We can play much better, no doubt, but sometimes winning ugly is the name of the game. We were by far the better team, . we deserved 3 points and we managed to get them. I'd usually critique players but its 6am in my part of the world and to be honest just want to enjoy the afterglow of a derby victory.

p. s. Barkley's tackle was an absolute disgrace. He got a yellow and due to the FA's stupid policy on retrospective punishment nothing will happen be he should be banned for 3 games at least - could have easily broken Henderson's leg.

{Ed001's Note - it is not an FA policy.}

19 Dec 2016 22:18:35
Is it not? I thought the FA's rule was, if the refereee has seen and dealt with an incident during a game it cannot be retrospectively looked at and punished - have I got this completely and utterly wrong Ed?

{Ed001's Note - it is from above the FA, can't remember whether it is UEFA or FIFA off the top of my head.}

19 Dec 2016 22:25:09
Oh OK I get you now Ed, cheers.

{Ed001's Note - welcome.}

19 Dec 2016 23:21:17
Why everyone obsessed with clean sheets. I think we can defend as well as anybody when it starts as that kind of gsme but shen it opens up that's when we have to score more than opposition. it just must be the shape. I would rather high scoring game as i really didn't sèe where our goal was coming from. Bit o luck tonight hopefully chelsea worrying.

Well not really is it. We may not have threatened a lot but to say they are running us riot seems a bit OTT to me.

19 Dec 2016 22:38:35
We had 68% possession and they had only 32%, for the entire game. Who was running riot on whom?

19 Dec 2016 23:07:12
Yep, ran us riot with their one shot on target.

19 Dec 2016 23:23:06
Everton played for 25 mins, created nothing, then spent the rest of the game trying to kick Liverpool of the pitch. Barkley should have been off but i guess that's all he has in his locker. Another waster Everton "superstar"

Looks like David Wagner might be leaving Huddersfield. I guess that would make it very unlikely that we will commit more players like Gomez on loan there. Great for a manager who looks better than most and deserves a go at a top flight team but I hope they will get someone in who will keep improving Ward!

Hi guys, How is Danny Ward getting on at Huddersfield? I know he started well, but I'm sure Carra posted up that he's been looking a bit shaky lately (apologies if it was someone else! ) .

From people who have seen him play, is he in the conversation to be 1 or 2 for us, or is he not at that level?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

19 Dec 2016 13:26:00
Hi Zeddicus,

I've been commentating on Town at home games this season and have been posting Danny Ward updates after matches.

To answer your question, I'd say that his form has dipped and peaked with Huddersfield's really. Whilst he hasn't got the best of clean sheet ratios, he's been generally solid if you ask me, bar the odd blip! He does lack that experience and consistency, but that will come with more game time of course.

For me he's not at a level to be our No1 but he's a good No2 option.

For me selling Mignolet and using Ward as Karius' backup would be the best option!

His shot stopping has at times been excellent - he's looked most vulnerable when left exposed by Town's back four - he's not the best sweeper keeper, so to speak!

His kicking isn't the best but not the worst either, whilst he is commanding of his area for crosses if you ask me.

I will post more about him as the season goes on - I think it would be best to judge him when he's gained as much experience as possible!

Hope that answers your question Zeddicus!

19 Dec 2016 13:31:17
Thanks very much for that Reid. I do think that 2 No 1s doesn't really work well, doesn't really give the confidence to either keeper. Most recently, we had the Kirkland/ Dudek rivalry which unfortunately was answered through Kirkland's injuries.

I think Karius with Ward as backup sounds decent, if Danny is indeed happy to be a LT No 2, a modern day Mike Hooper!

19 Dec 2016 13:55:27
Spot on, Reid. I think Ward has been solid overall, but not much more than that. Karius will get his opportunities to prove himself as Klopp thinks he`s the future and his issues are to me, adaptation issues relating to a new league and it`s physical and mental demands. Migs is not the answer and never was because if that was the case, Karius wouldn`t be here. A Karius/ Ward combo as 1 and 2, wouldn`t be a bad shout. As for those calling for a top class GK, those like Navas, DDG, Oblak, Lloris, are all taken and NO, Joe Hart is pants. Therefore, you create your own and Klopp will do that with Karius.

19 Dec 2016 12:08:07
Is another wise player in the mould of Mane likely to be a a target moving forwards? I only ask as I see him as a massive part of how we play, with his pace and directness pulling teams apart at time. He seems to have a lot to do with all our goals build up play and although we have a others in the squad, no one else is really like him.

Couts is a different sort of player with less pace, Bobby hasn't been at his best since moved out wide, can't see Sturridge playing well out wide, Origi I prefer leading the line and the likes of Ojo who i'd love to see given a chance when mane is away relatively unproven.
I just think mane brings something no-else does or can and we should have another player like him, not only to cover injuries / ACON but to actually make a first team spot his own, especially if some of our better players may be on their way at the end of the season ( we all know who! ) Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

19 Dec 2016 12:41:00
You answered your own question - Ojo is the next target to bring into the first XI to replace Mane as required.

19 Dec 2016 14:00:17
Mane is going nowhere.

19 Dec 2016 10:24:47

19 Dec 2016 17:44:01
I have never inclined a draw or loss is not possible and never would . Everton showed during the week they are a good team and the three points are definitely not ours it's upto the team to fight and collect the three points hence the game faces on.

Hey ed001

not really liverpool-related, but what do you think of David Luiz right now? He may be very decent offensively, but I still have my doubts about him defensively. I know a Chelsea fan raving about him, but I feel he's just another Van Dijk made to look good in a very effective defensive system. Players with a centre back either side of him, another 2 wingbacks who drop back when need be, and has Kante and Matic in front of him. That's a lot of help.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I like him, he was always a quality player with lapses in concentration, rather than a stroller like Van Dijk. Experience has improved him massively, as he now makes a lot less lapses, having learnt not to. He never lacked in desire, it was just sometimes he would be thinking about what to do with the ball when he got it, rather than just concentrating on dealing with it first. He still makes the odd error, everyone does, but he is much better defensively than the media ever gave him credit for. Luiz has a good attitude, works hard, has pace, strength, decent in air, attacks the ball well, it is just those lapses that are the issue.}

19 Dec 2016 05:54:09
Do you think that their system could help prevent him making mistakes? 3-4-3 is very strong against central attacks.

{Ed001's Note - it is more that it provide him cover with two other centre backs to mop up errors.}

19 Dec 2016 06:12:40
That's also true, but I just feel that when you have two centre backs decide you and Matic and Kante ahead of you, decision-making is made a lot easier.

{Ed001's Note - true.}

19 Dec 2016 06:23:29
beside* (! )

19 Dec 2016 06:31:51
Luis is an excellent passer of the ball at the back. Not a big fan of his defensive abilities but he is strong and doesn't get bullied by physicality.
3-4-3 compliments him to move around and roam around without much positional play.

Part of the beauty of Chelsea's system it allows luiz to stroll forward with the ball or even join the odd attack with kante or matic slotting in to cover. Certainly is a perfect system for him imo!

From all reports it seems that Luiz is also massively important in the dressing room and a real positive influence when things are not going well. We could use a few of those.

DL is a very good footballer, no doubt and his qualities are rare for a CB. He just seems to go walk about at times and his decision making under pressure can be baffling. But as a footballer and CB, he is class. Now, I will say that even Skrtel (an inferior CB to DL) looked good at times when BR switched to a back 3 as he had two other CB`s to baby sit him, just like Cahill and Azpi are there to cover for DL`s occasional brainfarts. The diff is that DL is a much better CB and passer of the ball than Skrtel ever hoped to be.
