Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

19 Dec 2011 23:01:53
Eds, I have heard and seen many rumours regarding torres returning to Liverpool. I would not be opposed to this as I think he could really help the team and the team could help him regain his form. I have noticed that every time a question regarding this comes up, you simply reply with a basic no he will not be coming back. For what reason are you so sure that he will not be returning? I do not mean to offend or sound like I am doubtful, I would just like to know your reasoning. thanks

John, USA

The way he left and his huge wages plus the money we have to spend to buy him?

Thanks, KickingBro

John, do you think it is worth investing millions (most likely more than 30m) for a player who didnt want to play for LFC.....to see if we could 'help him regain his form'? Financially, it's about as big a risk as you could take in football. In addition, he has been out of form for over two seasons and the same money could buy us a very high quality striker instead of a has-been. No offence mate, but I think the simple answer to your question is that he won't be coming back because Kenny and John Henry are not stupid enough to blow multi-millions on sentimentality and maybes.

cozinoz

Torres is currently not even worth 5m. His mojo is gone for good.

Chuck Norris

John, I don't think the concept is ridiculous. Would only make sense if Torres was obtainable as a loan or cut price, in the hopes of him regaining form. I suspect the problem is the price. Chelsea aren't desperate, so they would probably hold out for 30 million (plus) which would be a real gamble, one that I am sure the management are not willing to take. I think he would also have to go back to his old wages, and actually work for his money, so that would be tough sell.
Most fans were bitter when he left, but I am sure most will eventually come to the realization that he thought his career goals could be reached at Chelsea, and that's why he left. If he admitted mistake, most fans would take him back.

That being said, I think there is zero chance he is coming back...

Coop

Plus it is very unlikely that Chelsea will want to sell in January considering drogba will be unavailable due to the African Natuons.

Does anyone know the chances of signing Xabi Alonso? I know this probably wouldn't ever happen, but there's nothing wrong with having the slightest of hopes... Also, does anyone know where the likes of Edison Cavani could end up? I've heard rumours. Thanks in advance.

Alonso will cost too much and is too old to spend big money. Higuain will go to Chelski and Cavani to Real imo.

I'm thinking I know it's dangerous it's been said enough lol any ways were a good side and now a consistent top 4-6 team but in my opinion if we buy well in jan this will kick us on to even win the league or at worse finish 3rd because we don't fear playing the top teams anymore it's just the sides that park the bus we are troubled with, and so we need a trickster player to break them up and a fox in the box as they say lol anyways not asking for much am I cheers and have a good Xmas to all PK

How many south American players have played in europe over the years?
Suarez has been playing in Europe for a good few years already.
My point is, how come no south American has been charged with using this word before? Despite it being acceptable and commonplace in south America.
And how would suarez not know by now it's not acceptable to use that word in Europe after living here so long? Again despite it being a common and acceptable word where he is from. Are we to believe it's the first time since coming to Europe he has used it? Because he would get a quiet word or a mouthfull of abuse the very first time he used it.
Is evra the first black man he has come across in Europe?
His defence looked quite solid at first but too many holes in it for me.

Thanks

MIKEY

There are reports (from somewhere) that the word he used was being used by Evra's team mates .

I suppose the truth and explanations will have to come out in due course .

1977

Perhaps he used it before and people did not mind?

No but Evra plays for the team that has the devil in their logo :)

Agree with you Mikey, my mind has changed on this the more you think about it the defence seems very dodgy.

However Mikey, although I agree with you I also find it strange that Evra and the rest of his team waited untill the end of the game to report this? their not usually shy with getting in the Ref's face. Think I'll just wait and see what happens as up to now were just reying on what the press are telling us.

I was a bit young at the time, but does anyone
remember the fans feeling at the time when Keegan
left Liverpool? I'm thinking about the fans reactions about
Torres now. Some want him back and some same say never again. Clearly Keegan leaving was a kind of blessing because we got Dalglish as a replacement. I'm just wondering if Keegan
ever came out and said he regretted pissing on his chips
at Liverpool? Are there any similarities in the two stories?

RedAce

History is repeating itself! Feels like it anyway!

Thanks, KickingBro

I was only a kid at the time mate, and Keegan was my idol.
What you have to remember back then, was it was unheard of a player in his prime leaving Liverpool. It was always the other way round. The club got rid of the player when the time was right.
So there was quite a lot of anger around. I think I remember reading in a paper that he got booed at Anfield, cos remember he gave a year's notice that he was going.
I'm not totally up on it all tbh, cos I only went to the odd game when my dad could take me. But I think, in the end, it came down to this - Liverpool were champions of Europe and anywhere else was a step down.
That, and we played Hamburg in the European Super Cup not long after Keegan joined them and gave them a massive stuffing.
And of course Kenny joined. So the supporters quickly got over it.
Mind you, it still rankles with some older supporters. I've forgiven him though. Suarez reminds me of Keegan.
The Real KB

Keegan had his head turned by rumours of Barcelona and Real Madrid wanting to sign him. He thought that he had only had to make his choice out of these two. He was so certain but when the time came neither wanted him. He had bigged himself up so much about playing abroad that he had to join the only club that wanted him - HSV. The best thing about him going was that Kenny Dalglish joined and also that when HSV played at Anfield as part of the deal Liverpool won 6-0. The one thing that you can say in his favour is that he told Liverpool at the start of the season that he would be leaving. McManaman and Owen didn't give Liverpool that courtesy. They both said throughout their last seasons at Anfield that everything would come good - it did - for them! McManaman went for nothing whereas a season earlier he would have cost 5 or 6 million and Owen went for 8 whereas Liverpool (trusting him) turned down an offer of about 25 million a year earlier.
Dutchmal

Torres for Suarez, a blessing in disguise too.

maka

Aldridge for Rush wasnt too bad either

Not to mention Owen for Luis Garcia!

At least Keegan never gave up giving 100% to force a move to a rival English team and then start shouting his mouth off about how good it was to be at a more professional club. Also Keegan won the bundesliga in his 1st season and also won European footballer of the year in his first 2 seasons with Hamburg so it wasn't such a huge step down. Keegan deserves to be remembered as a LFC legend, FT had his chance and blew it and now he's paying the price for that.

Merf

Don't you mean Luis Garcia for Owen?
DM

Keegan did win the European Footballer of the Year twice but the 1st time was for his exploits at Liverpool. It just happened that the voting came after his move to HSV. McManaman and Owen also gave 100% on the field of play - just not off it. McManaman signed a pre-contract in January and there were a lot of fans who thought that he shouldn't have been selected any more for the first and that someone else should have been given the chance to claim a regular place.

hey eds has there been any hints of youngsters like nathan eccleston or david amoo getting a look in at the first team, im just wandering why we are going to buy all these youngsters when we're not giving our own a chance cheers {Ed002's Note - It will be on an as and when basis but obviously those out on loan cannot play.}

19 Dec 2011 20:28:50
Hi eds. A slightly different question as you must be getting bored of answering the same old questions. I keep hearing that Kenny is only interested in signing British. Now I wouldn't mind that as long as 'British' = quality players, but when the name Scott Sinclair gets floated about then you have to question Kenny's judgement. Please re-assure me that we wouldn't compromise signing quality foreign players (such as Gaston Ramirez) just for the sake of signing average British players (such as Scott Sinclair)? {Ed002's Note - Obviously we cannot answer such questions.}

When did Scott sinclair sign?

MIKEY

Scott sinclair is a really really good talent iv watched him a few times and i have been impressed hes abit rough but so was hendo hes turning into a talent also shelvey

jayblair89

Could it perhaps be that Sinclair would bust a gut for lfc and have a long successful career where Ramirez might use lfc as a stepping stone to Barca, Real or for mega bucks at Chelsea or City? Think about it.

P.s. I think Sinclair is a very good young player.

Just want to give some praise out to Kenny, when a few weeks ago some posters were saying he only had until January and some were even calling for him to be sacked.

I don't think Kenny is the right man for the job because of his previous success with Liverpool, or because of his legend status or the fact that he is a safe pair of hands etc. I'm not someone who would back Kenny blindly regardless of what he did. But the reason I think Kenny is the best man for the job is because of the qualities he brings to the team.

We were a shambles prior to him becoming manager, dropping out of Champions League, exiting tournaments to lower league teams. in fighting between owners and managers and players. Every bit of bad new made it into the media, all the tantrums from players paid mega bucks, the bloated but sub standard squad that drained resources from the club and at that point little progression from the youth team and reserves.

What Kenny has done (aided by the owners and backroom staff) shows how good a manager he is.

Players like Henderson, Downing, Carragher, Agger, Bellamy, Carroll, Maxi have all been left out for periods this season - have you heard one player moaning or complaining - no all recognise that Kenny doesn't have favourites but picks the best players and also the best players for that particular game.

If he thinks you're good enough he plays you - see the promotion of Kelly, Robinson, Flanagan, Shelvey - but not only that he gives the young players confidence.

He gives the players absolute support regardless of their form and takes the pressure off them - see comments when asked about not scoring enough he stated he "trusts his players implicitly" - how he has shielded Carroll and Suarez from the media when they have been unfairly criticized.

Tactically he's no slouch either - changing formations and personnel for different teams and resisting the need to make a substitution just for the sake of it.

He has stonewalled and dealt with media fantastically, always protecting the club, the players and putting down the media without resorting to rants or I was justified.

Also we play attractive football, the team is growing, we are getting better and he has a long term vision of the players and style he wants.

So thank you Kenny for the last eleven and a half months, for turning this great club around from when it nosedived, for making Liverpool a great team and for giving us our dignity back. And here's hoping that this is just the first chapter in a long glorious story.

I couldn't agree more with this post - absolutely bang on.

Po

The only thing Kenny can improve on is his subs in my opinion. He needs to use all 3 if he is considering winning the carling cup as well as the fa cup and then getting into fourth. But, I trust him 100%!

Thanks, KickingBro

Ahh...i like this post
well reminded
thankyou

I think Commoli and Clarke should be praised also, Clarke as much as Kenny if not more. In addition the Aussie medical team has done very well to keep the players fit and on the most part injury free. Remember how badly struck by injuries we were in Rafa's last season. Agger and Johnson being injury free has given them a good run of games built their confidence up and their true qualities are now being displayed (skrtels too). We no longer panic playing the ball from the back, the 2 centre backs know spilt like Barca and thank god we no longer have to watch Carra hoofing out of defence or playing at right back. We are more compact when defending and more expressive /exciting in attack. The team plays as a unit for the first time since 2009 but with more fluidity of movement and vigour. I agree with Hansen when he says we are perhaps only a couple of quality players missing from a top side and with 5-6 players still intergating into the team we can only improve. The owners are winners and will no doubt be backing Kenny in the market, however if there is no one out there that is better than what we have in the starting 11 there is no point IMO diluting the quality of the squad. Gerrard is close to a return and if back to near his best, he adds a massive attacking threat, like Suarez his play is unique he is a geniune talent that on form creates chances at will and IMO could transform the already focused attacking side we have into a relentless attacking force to be reckoned with. Lets hope we take our chances against Wigan, Blackburn and Newcastle and the players make it difficult for Kenny to add to the squad in January.

Anyone who has the balls to drop carra then build the best defence in the league using what we already had (bar Enrique)
Is alright in my book.
Defence is sorted, midfield will be the strongest in the league next if kenny continues to get the support he needs.

MIKEY

We're lucky everyone respects kennys desicions. you can feel the pressure villas boas is under for not playing lampard

Reina
Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique
Tiote
Gerrard Adam Ramirez
Suarez Soldado

So when did they play for LFC?
Kenny been keeping them under wraps I guess

That team would conquer the world!
Is that really what you want or us
just to start winning the EPL again?

Lucas is 10000000000000 times better than tiote! And forget soldado, we have bellamy

We don't need Tiote. We have great crop of youngsters coming in at centre midfield position and we've got Lucas, who is younger and better than Tiote. So spending anything on Tiote wouldn't be quite sensible. YNWA

10 killion times ;)

Raheem , Morgan , Suso future is bright. 2 years time they will Rock EPL.

19 Dec 2011 18:47:16
hopefully 1 or 2 of these players will come

. bent
. defoe
. solado
. fletcher
. doyle
. ba
. de jong
. huntelaar
. zamora
. adam johnson
. padolski
. nikica jelavic
. rodellega
. barrios

Fletcher, Doyle and Zamora please.....

Thanks, KickingBro

Wouldn't want any of them

KickingBro, did you pick the worst three players on the list just for a laugh?

Yes I did, haha. I thought some people would have gotten the joke. Obviously not.

Thanks, KickingBro

Those are some appalling choices for players to add to our team. The only players I would even think of taking from that list are Adam Johnson or Podolski. The other either aren't good enough or we'd pay a LOAD of money and they may not cut the mustard in the prem!

Is there any chance of Liverpool loaning out Sebastian Coates?

I think a loan move to Newcastle would be perfect for him because i can't see him getting many games this season, and a loan move wouldn't hamper his potential

I also think a loan move for Danny Wilson would do wonders for the lad!

I can see Kuyt, Fabio Aurelio and Maxi leave along with Joe Cole and Aquilani

If we qualify for Europe, i wouldn't be surprised to see Liverpool beef up there squad as you need a bigger squad with good strength in depth if we are challenging on all 4 fronts next season

Dan

Who would cover Carragher if Agger got injured?

Why do you think Coates would get in our team ?

mag {Ed001's Note - because of your injuries obviously! Have you not noticed that Perch (who wouldn't get into most League 1 teams) has had to play at centre back last couple of games?}

Do you guys rate him then?

He's going to be a better tackler and defender than Phil Jones, although I don't know about his skill in bringing the ball out of defence

Definite talent don't win the young player in the cope for nothing. He's had a tough start but a good run of games would get rid of that. Looked good in the few games he he had. I also read that Suarez says he is the o ly player in the Uruguay training that stops him mist times.

Quigz 23

I tough start? hes played in 3 carling cup games and we are still in it. the only bad game was spurs but then everyone had a bad game on that day.

Anyway he's off to Napoli so them rumors about him coming to us can be put to bed :)

Feeling a bit nervous about this Suarez verdict tomorrow... If he kops a ban just before this run of games we could be in a bit of bother, I would rather he had got the ban weeks ago ! Still thank god(KK) we have a better squad now and can seemingly handle what ever premiership life throws at us... Come on the boys lets have a cracking christmas session topped off with a win over Citeh in the new year ! YNWA Tobiwan

I have that gut feeling too mate. Something doesn't sit right with the whole scenario and I think there's a possibility Suarez may be used as a scapegoat in some way. The FA isn't really filling me with confidence right now, but I hope I'm absolutely wrong and we have him available for the Christmas fixtures. We'll see tomorrow.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

He's got a double charge, don't forget lads.
1. Abusive words / behaviour and
2. reference to another player's race / ethnicity.
He'll defo get pinged for number 1. Dont know about number 2.
I reckon he may get a ban.
The Real KB

Be no doubts if is banned for while,we'll have to buy

You've hit the nail on the head Real KB mate, I just hope he's not 'hung, drawn and quartered' so to speak and the FA go overboard with it. Who knows, I'll just keep stum and wait for it to run it's course.

Ed002 in particular... and the other Ed's.. Thanks for persevering, especially in the periods outside of the transfer window.. You do an amazing job, and if you didn't do so well we wouldn't rely on you so much.. So remember, the stupidity, questions and abuse are partly down to the quality of information you bring, and us Liverpool fans are more desperate for success than any other club, hence the stupidity.

All I ask is please don't lose faith with what you do, the majority of us appreciate the little snippets and inside tracks... As foe the inane questions? Sarcasm is probably the best response, the idiots that ask the questions aren't bright enough to understand.

Finally... thank you, I applaude your strength and tolerance.

Yes indeed, best Lfc site. Fair play.

Hi Again Ed's
Does the Irish lad, Rory Donelly just have to make his mind up between us and Swansea, or is there a little bit more to it than that?

Thanks
Burnsy {Ed002's Note - I really don't know Burnsy.}

19 Dec 2011 17:43:32
We should be going out t sign gary hooper or billy sharp both proven goal scorers at average teams so would thrive on chances created week in week out

Both championship players no better i like sharp but i cant see him in he prem.

19 Dec 2011 17:36:14
I know it's not important yet, but anyone know why Arsenal are placed fifth in all the league tables above Liverpool despite the same goal difference? Is it just alphabetical? The only other reason I can think of is that down to goals scored counting more in this type of instance?

Po {Ed002's Note - It is goals scored.}

Unbelievable

Believable

Thats not fair!

Absolutely unbeliveable

As a matter of interest, anyone know
what it goes on if goals scored and goals conceded are also the same? Does
number of times hitting the woodwork start to count then?

Unbelievable tekkers! Who cares? We have a number of games to go. We should start scoring more!

Thanks, KickingBro

And I believe it is away games won after goals scored and conceded.

Thanks, KickingBro {Ed002's Note - Try not to be so silly. It is Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock.}

No meant unbelievable you didnt know answer ffs

Who would u like to see us sign up front. We need a striker who can score consistently that's our only Down fall at the moment too many times we have hit the post or squandered chances so who is best fitted for the job and I would sell any Carroll back to Newcastle for 20m and go all out for a prolific striker to guarantee us the best chance of a top 4 finish. If we leave it to the summer it may b too late if we don't start converting our chances and turning those draws into wins

Kagawa and De Jong

Shaqri , Podolsky, Munian, Ozil.

Re Carroll we dont want him back we dont play like that anymore you'll see next week
You got a seriously s**t manager wasted money at newcastle gets 1 in every 4 transfer right
Mag {Ed001's Note - are you for real? He never got allowed money at Newcastle, because your 'messiah' Keegan had dismantled the youth system and overspent to the point of putting the club into severe money difficulties.}

Newcastle already starting to get nervous about the prospect of facing LFC? Carroll will come good for us in the end and Kenny got it spot on for Enrique.

Dont know what you are on about he bought some absolute rubbish turned a title chasing team into crap in two seasons Des hamilton 3.5 million ring any bells?

Enrique is class I don't know why Spain don't give him a go, I thought the move would help.We got a good replacement though in Santon.
Looking forward to the game .

I thought Des Hamilton was pure class. Could have played for England

When he gets as bad as Shearer or Kinnear i'll start worrying. Easy 3 points, slipping down the taale week by week.
J.C

19 Dec 2011 17:25:08
If we did get a new player or two in jan who would they replace in the team because there all playing really well apart from Carroll but he just needs a bit of time and a gaol or two for confidence. Or would they mainly be for more options for different games {Ed002's Note - I suspect that you are correct - they would be squad member. Remember Gerrard will soon be returning and will need to be accommodated already.}

Thanks ed I did forget about gerrard hopefully he will come back in good shape and he's been out for so long he could be like a new signing because he hasn't played much with this new look Liverpool under kd

Still need skillful quick magician to fill the No. 10 shirt.

My first away game of the season yesterday and what a crcking three points the whole team really played well.

I really like hendos energy and is really important for the team, shelvey also had a good game. Back 5 was superb and going forward we looked like scoring all the time just a shame suarez piece of magic hit the post.

Isnt it great that we scored from two corners as well. One is a rarity but two in the same game. January just around the corner always a dodgy time to buy. I just hope if we buy its a long term target like a de jong or sissoko and not someone bought in just to make numbers up but i alwayst trust the king.

What a Difference a year makes.... remember how you felt this time last year? Petitions for the capture of Hodgson Dead or Alive? A misfiring miserably Torres in the papers constantly. Letting goals in for the sake of it. While we prayed for some saviour to come in January to lead us into the future and we got Kenny AND Suarez.

Now look we have one of the most feared strikers in the land. One of the greatest defences in the league, as well as a team full of youth and a ability. All hail the King Kenny Revolution and long may it continue, the best thing of all I wouldn't mind if we didn't get anyone this transfer season...of course I wouldn't mind a few new faces but it doesn't particurly bother me. -McMenemy

Lets give Adam Morgan a chance in the first team. Rush, Owen, Fowler, Stevie were all given a chance as teenagers.

'He is nowhere near a Premiership player at this present time. Why not let nature take its course. Don't forget Owen and Fowler suffered injuries by there mid twenties and where never the same players after.I hope the lad turns out to be special, But What i've seen of him he doesn't possess Owen's pace or Fowlers class.
Nojay

Morgan hasn't had a great season this year. Especially considering the high amount of praise he got last year. I think we should buy Jordan Rhodes and then a major striker. I don't know who though because who would want to move in January unless you are underperforming or the team has been knocked out of the champs league?

Thanks, KickingBro

And what do they all have in common? Incessant injuries throughout their careers that have in Owen's case completely ruined his ability and potential. Morgan is nowhere near ready.

Martin

Too young to cope with EPL. if he did bad then may lost his confidants. can have 10 to 15 minutes to get some experience.

I agree McMenemy - I am not fussed whether we get anyone or not either. I guess I am hoping for Andy to find his stride and hit form this season. All we need is for Downing, Enrique and Adam to start swinging crosses in from the left for him to get on the end of. Gerrard, Hendo and Glen can swing them in from the right.

Ed001 i saw you talking about luuk de jong. I personally see us more likely bringing in a fast agile poacher like doumbia rather than another target man. De jong seems like a decent prospect when i have watched him but he is a target man like carrol. Just wondering whether you thought that we would be less likely to buy him as he doesn't suit our style of play eg just like carrol? I think we need quick players like lavezzi etc {Ed001's Note - I am sure the club have a reason to watch him so closely, he is certainly capable of playing a quick passing game.}

Leroy Fer plays for Twente? have we been looking at him whilst over there Ed? {Ed002's Note - He has certainly done well since his move to Twente but I don't know if he has been looked specifically.}

Hes not just a target man, he can play out to the right and ss aswel. he is also quick and has the same birthday as me.

Was out with a few dutch lads saturday night and they all rate De Jong, I've not really seen that much of him so who in recent years in the prem would you say he is similar to in style?

Have watched him a couple of times,

A bit like Kuyt but with out his work rate & with little bit more pace & trickery than Kuyt. Tall but seems physically weaker than Kuyt.

W all know Dirk very well, & De Jong was called the next Dirk Kuyt by Dutch Media
thus used Dirk to compare him.
He is still young & can improve but not sure of if he is the striker we are crying for & we need ATM....

Hi eds, wondering how much you know about this Rory Donnelly? Are we seriously interested or just sniffing around? And does our interest in him signal a reluctance to spend big on a striker in January? Or is it simply a case of snapping him up before someone else does?

Red Ollie {Ed001's Note - he is a young lad with a huge amount of potential, but he is being eyed up as one for the future, if he does choose to join us, it will not be at the expense of another striker.}

He is very good at the level he is playing and can become very good here, indeed. Wouldn't cost too much, too. So can be a very good signing for us. YNWA

He is twenty in feb, Swansea seemed to have agreed a deal worth £100,000 but he has not agreed personnel terms yet. Believe he's got great potential but his old coach says he will need building up as they don't do any weights programme.-apparently

So like shelvey? not a starter but talented and we just trying to catch him young.

I for one can not think of one player who performed badly yesterday.
I think Bellamy yet again was absolutely sublime
Our defense looks stronger in each game we play.
We where creative and made lots of chances, as well as holding on to possesion. Lots of great pass and moves.
I think we are really gelling together quite well.
what a marvellous turn around from last year, so a massive well done to kenny, steve and damien.

We just need a few more additions.

LTP The Red

I think we played well and were very unlucky not to have atleast 4-5 goals Suarez and shelvey were superb the only issue i had was when Carrol come on Downing had loads of chances to go wide and cross the ball in but he kept cutting in so Carrol was not being used to his main assets

not really a liverpool question as such, but just wanted to know who everyone thought was the most unlucky players and why, mainly asking this because i see keiran dyers injured again. Can be bout players who had the talent and was mis managed os wasted their chance.? Red head

I thought the young LFC players of the early 1990's were unlucky that Kenny Dalglish had resigned by the time they were ready to compete .

Jamie Redknapp , Robbie Fowler , Steve Mcmanaman , Don Hutchison , Mike Marsh etc , were all part of Keny Dalglish's long term vision but , alas they had to make do with second best . A pity .

1977

Rob Jones was a great full back and very unlucky with injuries. Red Kenny

Rob Jones was unbelievable all things considered . It looks like Jose Enrique is settling in just as well .

1977

Owen Hargreaves. England's best player till he moved to the manks and destroyed what I think would have been a fantastic career

Andy Carroll's been pretty unlucky. One of the most talked up players in the Prem, tipped for England success halfway through his first season in the top flight. A huge club comes in with a big money bid for him, obviously he's not going to say no so he joins. A bad injury mars his form and then the other striker we signed, Suarez, plays so well that he can't help but look poor in comparison. He's now criticised after every performance by people who would have praised him had he played like that for Newcastle. Hugely unlucky

Red Ollie

Jim beglin

Hi can we stop talking about carroll its old, everyday its carroll bashing its very sad. Christmas spirit time. Good post only for now after xmas once he gets some games then lets talk about him then. Please ban negative comments on him. J

Brad Jones. Nuff said.

Dib Cisse

Since you did not specify football players
I'd go for Pete Best.

Bobby Graham for me.. Was settling in to be a great midfielder for us and broke his ankle in the mud of the centre circle with no one near him. If it had happened today he would have got better medical treatment I think but he was never the same player after that and I think it pretty much ended his career.

I Love the club , Torres made a mistake and we can forgive him for that. He is a world class striker who deserves a second chance and i truly believe we not a club that is packed with arrogant supporters. I for one will completely support Torres's move back to Anfield!

Hate him for leaving us for bigger club ha ha but if he was to come back I think he would fit in well with the style and Suarez was bought to partner him. Think he could come good again and salvage his euro hopes with Spain

Thats good to know, I'm sure he will be delighted. Shame he's not moving back to lfc, pure fantasy.

Every window we have a name that the kids just grasp onto, and if sheer blind belief was in charge of our transfer policy we would have Villa, Mata and Auguero lining up for us. And obviously Torres back in Jan.
Q

I don't care about all the leaving the club thing the truth is he is absolutely rubbish.

Ed I am sick of the papers linking us to different players every day, which paper is the most reliable for transfer gossip.
Thanks

we are playing good football but we need another striker to match our style of play.
Caroll is a good player but with the style that KK wants to play(touch and move) he will never fit in.
Our defence is rock solid,we need a bit more class upfront.
it will take some time we cleared players last season that did not fit into KK plans.
Mark my words kuyt maxi aurelio will be replaced.
if we get the class replacement needed we will play for the league next year.
if we get the striker and winger we need januari we will end up in the top 4.
KK needs the owners support and time.

No need to replace maxi. He brings the best outa suarez. Kuyt, carra n aurelio have to go though. N carrol if he doesnt improve till may.

I did mangene cara because we brought in coates and kelly can play in middle too.

Carra wont be sold he'll retire at liverpool

I meant carra to retire at the end of the season.

Forgot to ask Ed!,
There are lots of rumours about the construction of a new stadium, instead of a extension of Anfield. Does this seem to be the case, as i know lots of people expected an announcement before to long. Also, if a new stadium is constructed, would it have sponsorship deals, such as the Emirates?

Thanks again Ed,

19 Dec 2011 13:01:30
Was reading ed001s comment last night about how he wants us to move for higuain.
Any move in my opinion would happen in the summer and only If we get top 4.
But I would find it very interesting to see if the owners would splash out 35-40m on a player. I know we did for carrol but we did have 50m burning a hole.
I can't see many players leaving this summer that would bring in enough funds to soften the blow of the transfer fee.
And we are not exactly rolling in it.
But higuain would fit in with the transfer policy and he would fit into the team like a glove. It would catapult him back into the lime light and give him the starting place he obviously craves.
Would be a great move for both clubs and the player concerned, I just hope higuain sees it the way I do.
Or maybe Alonso could sell us to him.
What does everybody think? Realistic target or pipe dream?

Thanks

MIKEY

I personally think the same as you he would be a perfect fit to play in front of luis and put some of the many chances away we seem to be missing.
However like the eds have said i cant imagine higuin wanting to leave for a team who are not in the CL so we need to get top four.

Pipe dream I reckon.
We've got the stadium / redevelopment issue on the horizon to pay for as well mate.
Bringing through youth, and spotting value for money young players is the way for us for the foreseeable future. With the occasional splurge on a big signing, though Andy Carroll is that man at present.
The Real KB

...like the young lad Donnelly from Cliftonville.

I don't want players who will only come to us only if we are in CL. Total waste of money, imo.

Our Away Support vs Our Home Support

Such a difference between the two its frustrating.

Reasons why guys? Off you go....

Kris the Red

Away form is better than home form. Last game I went to was Swansea I was in the kop. Really nothing to shout about.

MIKEY

Agreed MIKEY about form but surely the idea is to encourage the team and sing no matter how they are playing on the day? Just a thought..

Kris the Red

I did my best. But the players could also make an effort on the pitch to encourage the crowd. It goes both ways. We need a bigger stadium so more of a mix can go the game. Too many people are either priced out or can't find tickets. If people could get tickets next to there mates it would be a lot easier to get a song going. I was surrounded by strangers so felt a bit stupid singing on my own. Didnt stop me but can understand why people who are a bit more shy would stay quiet.
Cheap beer might get the crowd going a bit more as well ha

MIKEY

There wasn't a great deal of atmosphere against Swansea right from the off. We just never got going that day and the crowd knew it was going to one of those days, you could sense it.
The Goathertder
JFT96

In home we are a bit too aggressive . in away we are well defiance then go to attack.

I am a LIverpool and Aberdeen supporter from Scotland and in my opinion the away support is better because it is usually the diehard fans that go to the away games thus usually all the singing element. At the home games you have a mix mash of all types and not every body sings. Thats my humble opinion anyway.

Gazza

Too many tourists at home matches and in my opinion the ticket arrangements over the years have excluded locally based fans,in my early days we had to queue at the ticket office for match tickets. Before tickets I used to queue from half twelve to get in to the Kop.

Since the introduction of telephone and internet sales for tickets local fans have less chance of success, the cynic in me would say the club prefer the once or twice ayear tourist fan because they spend a lot more money in the Club Shop.
We need the local passion back but the economics of football is killing it.

Fellow Reds - another great win. This keeps us right there in the mix and shows the fantastic progress we are making as a club and a team to be challenging for honours again. Great to see and it'll make my Christmas & New Year if we continue like this into 2012.
As for the Pony Tail. I truely believe the lad will come good, he just has to adapt to a different way of playing. He is showing signs of improvement each time he gets on the park. I'm also certain that Kenny and the coaches are working hard to keep that improvement going. HOWEVER, was it just me or did the lad send out the wrong message yesterday - sat on the bench looking a bit 'tired' necking a tin of Red Bull !
What do the Ed(s) reckon?
The Goatherder
JFT96

Not a great sigh to see the red bull out

He used to mix it with jeagermeister so at least it's an improvement.

MIKEY

Andy Carroll has not shown any improvement at all. Yesterday he headed the ball once and I believe made 1 pass (correct me if I'm wrong). I know we need to support our team but this guy is NOT the answer or even a stop gap answer for us. I say to drop him now and get it over with!

Andy Carroll is a good footballer but the style of play we have now will never fit in. We are not playing Tosh and Keegan style, we are playing more Rush and Dalglish. The problen is we don't yet have a Rush type player as Andy won't ever be that. Don't be too hard on him, we are not playing to his strengths and he needs to move to a team that does. All we need is a lethal finisher/poacher.

19 Dec 2011 11:56:49
Liverpool need a David Silva type player to support Suarez up front. Suarez is isolated at times so do u think we will go for david silva type player in January/summer?

No they need a finisher someone like hernandez(obviously not hernandez though)...saurez creates the same amount as silva just has trouble finishing

We only notice Suarez missing so much because the rest of the team isn't scoring. If the pressure was off him a bit then he might not try so hard.
But I do think we see the best of Suarez when he is isolated and needs to beat 6 men and curl a shot into the top corner.
But if we had someone up front with him he could play 1-2s with he would score a hatfull more.

MIKEY

I think suarez and Bellamy are working well together such a shame AC doesn't seem to be stepping up to the mark so that front three would have it all pace power skill height. I'm putting mario Gomes on my Xmas list but there is not much chance of that. Let's hope whoever comes in can complement s and b

Another dynamic will be there when Gerrard returns.

Team to play wigan..

---------------Reina------------------
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
Kuyt-Henders-Adam-Downing
--------Bellamy---Suarez----------

Predicted score: 3-1, to us.
Suarez to get 2, and Kuyt to get 1.

Paul.
(the 1st paul, there is now a new one?)

Wigan seem to be our bogey side !
I'd be happy with a 1-0, off Andy Carroll's left buttock if needs be.
The Real KB

I reckon carroll will start this one..kenny will be looking to give him some game time

Suarez wil be serving game 1 of 6 then wont he

Why would you Kuyt in? I would rather even start Maxi, and Shelvey deserves another game, he was great.

Call me old fashioned but Darren Bent's choice to to go shopping rather than watch his team play us yesterday, sums up a lot of modern footballers. I honestly find it incredible. We're always reminded of the importance of the (unpaid )12th man, yet if the players couldn't care less!?!?!?

dd

I think it says something about his commitment to the fortunes of the club in the longer term, and it would be awful to see an LFC player shopping if they were fit enough to get to a home game even just to watch.

It worse than the 12th man being unpaid the twelfth man actually pays, compared to bent who is paid and can't be arsed

Last year at VP, Gerrard was in the crowd with mates watching LFC play. That's the difference.

Can we please, please stop with the Torres rumours! He was a quality buy for us and served his purpose. He had the hero worship and the club bought Suarez to play next to him and show there intentions. Torres then forced a last minute sale (forcing us to pay way over the odds for carroll). He then went to chelsea and made sly digs at us (the fans who hero worshipped him), including "I've moved to a bigger club"....). Most fans would have loved to see him play next to Suarez but it will NEVER happen. He sulks and moans, he is disrespectful, and he can stay in chelsea, 50 million was daylight robbery by us lol. I dont want him back, on top of a loss of form he is injury prone! Lets go get the NEXT Torres and move on.
(Eds any chance you can stop posting Torres rumours, its getting a bit boring now!)

Tommy

I agree Tommy I was taken in by all this Torres returning stuff but having thought a little bit more about the way he treated LFC shows his heart is not with the club. We need players who are commited to the long term goal of new management team.

Steve068

He is also crap and not worth the £20million they are asking for {Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not asking £20M for Torres.}

SAD.

'sadly..I think the time is up for Andy Carroll..' the tone of this poster is so arrogant. thats whats so aggravating about these people, that they are so certain that Andy Carroll will fail. For all I know , he might fail, and never make the grade. but it doesnt make sense to me to make up your mind about him at this stage ,and worse, go on to public forums telling the world how he wont make it. Arrogance. What does make sense to me is to wait and see how he'll turn out, and the meantime support the lad 100%. surely that gives him a better shot at it than knocking him. When Lucas 'came good' I didnt feel one bit satisfied or smug that I was right about him and so many were wrong. I just felt sorry for the player that he had to endure all that stick. and ashamed of fellow reds. I was wrong about lots of players , I thought smicer was going to turn out to be world class! but i had faith in the manager at the time, and with hindsight that faith was a bit misplaced. But my faith in our 'new' manager is not. He is a proven winner, and a real legend.I trust him 100%. and its time others started getting behind his team.ALL of his team. Im also very concerned about
anfield being so quiet. and i think the two topics are related, its to do with the trend of fans (and society) wanting instant gratification. Its scary how little joy there are in some peoples hearts that not only can the not remember how close to the brink we were how bleak things were at our 'beloved' club...but now that things have swung around so dramatically, we have new owners, money WE HAVE KENNY DALGLISH BACK AS MANAGER FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!!!!!!!! ....that people still piss and moan...that is what is sad my friend.

Dara D

Get off Carroll's back, He came on as a sub for the last 20mins at Villa, in that time we only got 1 cross in the box and that came in from Kuyt. I'm sure even Messi or Ronaldo would struggle to score. It's so stupid we cross the ball so much when carroll is off the pitch but the minute he comes on we stop and we play it at his feet it looks like we forget how to cross the ball.

Dara d. have you never had an opinion other than positive about every player who has played for liverpool? can you answer the question honestly please and not give an answer that may back up your post. p.s. i will dumb this down for you i am not slagging the player off but merely pointing out he does not fit into the way we play, that's not his fault. ibrahimovic went to barca and was bombed out after a season yet is fantastic in italy, some players don't fit in at certain clubs that was i was putting across in the original post.

waro

Fair enough Waro, didnt mean to lump you in with the mindless drivel of the pointless moaners. i see what you mean and i agree (to a point) and i apologise. I do still feel that it is far too early to judge him and whose to say what system the king has planned to incorporate Carroll. we are still a work in progress. I do tend to think the best of players , foolishly thinking they are just about to turn the corner! And i will put my hands up also to admit I thought Benayoun was absolute carp .

Dara D

Yet again a fairly level headed poster is knocked down by the overly fanatic and unreasonable. Some posters here are like the Dalglish Gestapo. Easy there Dara D.

Agree with waro. Carrol shudnt be at liverpool. Doesnt fit into our system. Wud be a good player for another club. But at liverpool, he looks lost n out of sorts.
Indian Buzzer

Dalglish Gestapo! You're right. I think I suffer from the fact that dont post that often, then when I do it just spews out in a mess of frustration
Dara D

The problem with carroll is that we have to play 442 with him in the side. In my opinion at the moment he could not hold onto it long enough to make the most of that formation. I am sure that the club are working to make him better in this regard and I am willing to give the lad a chance. I think that carroll would flourish in a 352 system with enrique and johnson at wing backs providing extra crosses. The 433 we are playing is working because of having 3 quick mobile forwards able to stretch defenses. Merry Xmas to all the editors... absolutely love this site! Fingers crossed for the next 3 games... If we win them then we are on the march!!

I have to say I'm really impressed with our defensive displays in recent weeks. Agger, touch wood, is staying fit which allows Srktel to play with confidence and he is looking back to the form he was producing when he first joined. I wasn't one of those joining in and jumping on the 'Carra is finished' bandwagon, however it does appear at this present moment in time, Carragher will slip behind Coates before the end of the season. He didn't need that awful mistake to happen at the end of yesterday's game, as that would show up as a bright beacon against the backdrop of Agger and Srktel's recent performances and highlight even more the clamour to finish him off and put him out to grass.

The other massive improvement has been in the left back department. This has been a problem not just recently but for many a year. The purchase of Enrique I wasn't that sure about as I didn't really focus on him that much and as he didn't 'stick' out at Newcastle, gave the impression he was just a run of the mill left back.

However, as a supporter you have to trust the manager and the backroom boys with their undoubted judgement which is far higher than any of us on here. They do their homework and he obviously ticked enough boxes to purchase.

When a player comes to your club, you can straightaway put him under the microscope, however to do so you must ensure that first impressions are not branded into your brain. I watched Enrique and I still wasn't sure for 4 or 5 games. I suppose the old Shanks theory kicks in for some? Yes he was certainly an upgrade from Konchesky, Dossena, Aurelio etc. but was he the player to turn the left hand side into a potent attacking threat with the ability to be solid and sound defensively, something we have badly lacked?

Well it started for me in the City game where I thought he was head and shoulders the best full back on the day and that bursting run he made in the second half was superb. He was again excellent at Fulham defensively and yesterday he was solid, compact and efficient.

I've warmed to him and he does appear to have improved markedly since the start of the season, so has Adam, Henderson whilst Downing is now picking up. If we continue this scale of improvement with so many players, keep Agger and Suarez fit, Gerrard coming back in, the World is our oyster as they say.

I can still see a golden horizon, it only gets brighter as we get nearer. Keep the faith and the support of all and we'll get there sooner rather than later. We are on the cusp of something special in the next few years.

Bob the Red

Love your posts Bob the Red
Always a good read.

Enrique (imo) has been the stand out performer 4 us from the first minute of the first match of the season, he must surely go down as being 1 of the buys of the decade for LFC considering the price also,

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

Also Enrique knows that playing well at LFC will put him in the thoughts of the Spain manager.

I hope, that if the joke that is the FA find sauarez guilty and hit him with a ban then it's no more than 4 games, beacuse looking at the next for games, wigan away, blackburn and newcastle at home in the league then oldham at home in the FA cup these are 4 games that we could cope without suarez and games that will probably suit carroll.
paul

Hope they dont ban him at all

Dude, how could you miss a small trip to the etihad in between?

Sorry forgot the man city game
paul (noy sure if the other paul can claim to be to original or not, from now on maybe we should both put our surname initial, mines d)

Thinking a point is been missed here, if he is found guilty (big if still) the FA will have branded him a racsist, and every other team will keep reminding us of the fact. The question is then what do the club do? do they stick with the player and risk allienating certain fans and sponsors? it is not as simple as a few matches suspended. {Ed002's Note - That is simply not true. There are two charges, he could easily be found culpable on the first and they could let the second drop.}

Ed thats fair enough and would be probably a good result, I was trying to make the point that this may not just be as simple as a suspension. I hope he gets nothing and that they recommend the FA implemments a cultural training course for all overseaes players coming here to play? {Ed001's Note - I would think that would be overkill, considering it is one incident.}

19 Dec 2011 10:59:19
is the decision on Suarez to be announced before the Wigan game Ed?
(irishred) {Ed002's Note - As I understand matters, the parties involved will be told the outcome tomorrow and subsequently I would expect a press release.}

Cheers ed002. If he is found guilty, will he be banned for the game on Wed {Ed002's Note - Why don't we just wait and see what happens?}

Hi Edd's

Stupid ?? But how come Arsenal are 5th ahead of us in the league table?? we're both on 29pt & 7+ goals each. But we have a better head to head this season. {Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with "head-to-head" - Arsenal have scored more goals.}

If the crossbar as higher we would probably be in the top 3. We have hit the posts 17 times. We just need a bit of luck and the fa to go easy on Suarez and i still think we can get top 4.
Red-raj

If the goal difference is the same I thought it was put in alphabetical order. I always bug my Arsenal friend before the season starts by telling him: "You're top of the table. Enjoy it because it won't last very long!"

redkenyan {Ed002's Note - No, it is goals scored.}

Thanks edd i always thought it down to head to head...

It doesn't matter how high the crossbar is if we are continually hitting the post!

Not really a transfer rumour as such, but I just heard Carra will be retiring at the endo of the season. No extra cover will be brought in due to other options like Wilson getting a chance and Coates getting acustom to the premiership.

With Agger being injury prone Imo, i would still like one more, Wilson needs more time i think, Coates is a future star tho,

Ska-oop

Ps. Would be good for my stress as last 2 or so seasons carra has been scaring me s**t less, with tackles or races for the ball, hopefully becomes a coach or something as certainly was a top of the pile CB

Ahoy - excellent performance yesterday and not one complaint from me.

Please can all the negative posters take a break from their negativity and use yesterdays performance as the bench mark of how far we have come in 12 months due to a couple of reasons.

The back 5 have played 7 consecutive games together, look solid composed organised and most of all appear comfortable with each other. We haven't been in this position for a number of years at the back.

Infront of a settled back four/five we had - Adam, Henderson, Downing, Shelvey, Bellamy, Suarez - who if you wind the clock back 12 months the only one at LFC was an 18 year old prospect called Jonjo.

The past 12 months has seen an amazing amount of progress - all acheived with new signings, better attitude on and off the pitch and most importantly better management.

Take a minute to reflect on how much we have moved forward in 12 months I have and it makes me happy and proud.

BOILED ONIONS

Agreed, we have the best defensive record in the league and the most clean sheets

..and theyve done it without our captain, and now our player of last season.

It was hardly an excellent performance. It was decent enough to get the 3 points thats the important thing. We have played much better previously to only come away with a draw.
Steve

U sure we have most clean sheets i thought the swans had

Corrected, it is swansea, trust me to believe what BBC sport write!

Sadly I think time is up for Andy Carroll, I do feel for the lad but I think it's plain to see it will never work out for the kid with regards to us. I am sure there is a decent player there and if he goes to a club that play to his strenghts they will get a decent player but he does not fit into our pass and move style because plainly the lad can't play on the deck end of. But we need to get off his back because it's not his fault how much we paid and the fact he cannot fit into our style of play. A move away will suit both partys I feel.

Waro

Yeah shouldve got rid of Crouch after 8 months of football too. And Rush. And Lucas. Carroll's 21 now so he wont improve and, lets face it, if he isnt LFCs top scorer after 8 months of football we should get rid. I cant believe Andy selfishly demanded that Liverpool pay 35m for his services too.
I cannot wait for Andy Carroll to start scoring for Liverpool so Waro, Ash, Redturkey and Ray Burmeister can publicly admit they are poor supporters.

Try reading the posts (to the anonnymous poster above.) No one said he dictacted his price tag. In fact, Waro said it's NOT his fault. Liverpool play pass and move football and Rush, Crouch etc. all had a good touch on them to aid the flow, albeit not hitting the ground running. Andy Carroll is simply a round peg in a square hole. And you cannot wait for him to come good so we can "publicly admit to being poor supporters?" A year in and guess what? I'm still waiting...

And he's 23 in under 3 weeks! Not 21!

Ash

We already know they type of 'supporters' they are mate. They are an embarrassment to our great club. Their posts are utterly pathetic and so against everything being a Red means. They don't care about Liverpool at all, only in seeing their little words spewing out online.

Milamber

Milamber and the anonymous poster, read my post again very very very slowly, far from slagging the lad I am backing him to turn into a decent player I just feel sadly it will not be with us. season ticket holder since 1984 so I put my money up so I will ALWAYS voice my opinion regardless of clowns like you 2.

Waro

He should train harder and harder like Henderson is doing, i:e Early in training and last to leave the training ground and not to enjoy life like he used to do. he has a responsibility towards Liverpool for drawing a cheque of 35Mil to have his service, whether he likes it or not he has to change his attitude (a la henderson/beckham/henry ect ect to become good) and playing style (look at Robbie Fowler, he was not that quick plus he was unable to play with his rigth foot, but he developed that killer instinct in him which we all knows. May be Carroll should start to practise playing with his right foot for example. There are other techniques/skills that he should learn and stop the lazy attitude i:e i know only to turn and shoot or the ball should be be placed on my head to score.

Budashow {Ed001's Note - Rush took 3 years to get going, why do so many people act so childishly and so impatient? He is working harder in training, he is doing far more now than he ever did at Newcastle.}

I wouldnt call fowler one footed. He definitely had a preference but he scored goals with his weak foot that even some of the best strikers couldnt score with their strong foot.

DO NOT INSULT GOD IN MY PRESENCE

LTP the red

Fowler could score goals in his sleep. It will be a long time till we see his sort again.
Fowler lover

What about the right footed chip over smeichael in the 2-2 at old trafford quality finish, and i remember a right foot volley against i think leicester? maybe a hat trick in that game too? might be wrong tho

@kop_bailey

Were 3/4 players away from an Excellent side(Striker,"link"player to open up defences,Midfielder,Right winger.)Now weve been saying this numerous times over the years(1,2 players away)Surely board and K.K will get this time!Wether now or Summer(obviously,-sooners better)Then just question of steady progress, evoloution, replacing injured,or lost form players. In the words of Del Boy-"come on Liverpool, you know it makes sense!"

Ridiculous post. We have the players (bar maybe another striker)...we just need them to play together regularly. We've been playing some great football and dominating most teams - we need a bit more luck not wholesale changes. 3 or 4 signings will disrupt the side and start us back where we were in August.

So 1 striker and all be well?God he must be made of Kryptonite.

Who would you guys prefer and would be available at the better price in jan?

Shinji Kagawa or Honda?

None of them

I'd prefer Kagawa but I know that he will not be moving anywhere until the summer. He will stay at Dortmund until then. We probably have more chance of Honda.

Rewflo

That s a difficult one, but im edging towards Kagawa

Gaston Ramirez.

Chuck Norris

I think we've missed out on Honda, no interest last January. I've been watching Kagawa a bit more recently here and there and wouldn't mind seeing him in Red next season. Would be a great addition.

Surely we have an eye on Adam Maher? The boy is class, eds know anything? {Ed001's Note - a lad in his first season? No, I don't know much about him sorry.}

Great win today. We were dominant, and picking off passes like crazy. We truly dominated mid field, even without Gerrard and Lucas. Only sore spot for me is Carroll. I am not part of the hate squad, but I really don't know how he fits in with this team.

He has no confidence at all, he'll definitely come good, and if Suarez gets a ban you'll see a different Andy Carroll, with some confidence he's quality, he hasn't had much of a chance so far this season cos Suarez is playin so good and the team is designed to play ball to feet to suit the way Suarez plays...

I actually couldn't agree more with this post. I am cautiously optimistic over Carroll, but I think he needs a change in his life - whether it's new scenery, new habits, (maybe even a new haircut!), etc. I think he's just in a funk right now, and he looks completely out of place in the team.

He has shown promising signs with his touch getting substantially better as the season has progressed. In addition, a few weeks ago he was tied for first in the league with Grant Holt for most headers on target, which isn't too bad considering the limited playing time he's had this season.

Carroll, along with Downing, just needs to get a goal. He needs to stop trying to avoid playing a bad game and focus on just playing a good one.

I'm sure he'll be sorted out by the end of the season, but if we want a top four finish then we need a striker who is in form now. Bringing in another striker would take a huge burden off of Carroll and allow him to actually surpass the low expectations everyone currently has for him. I couldn't care less about who comes in January - just as long as that person knows where the goal is, rather than the frame.

Thanks!

CSeiling

Ye i think you are the only one who thought Downing had a shocker. Thought he played very well barring a couple of stray passes in the last ten mins when he was getting tired.
Best game i've seen him play in a while. His corner that led to first goal and his 40 yard pass to. Suarezwhen if hit tho post after chipin the keeper was sublime.
Jonson.

Andy needs a mentor ON the pitch. This could be Gerrard. Remember Gerrard saying how he was helped by team mates when he was younger.

Am I the only one who thinks Downing had a shocker? Very poor, he looked nervous. Apart from that we played well for 70 mins there abouts, Suarez left and we looked very ordinary going forward. If Villa had enough about them and scored a goal it would have been a nervous 20 mins. I hope the side shows a bit of consistency and puts the next few games away. Need a new striker or start playing young Sterling.

I wouldn't say he had a shocker mate, after all he was back at Villa Park for the first time since joining Liverpool in the summer so a bit of nerves would be common in those circumstances... We created plenty of chances to win the game by 5 or 6, we just need better finishing really, a bit of composure in front of goal, Charlie Adam had a chance to make it 3-0 and instead of passing it to Suarez or Shelvey who were in better positions un-marked he wasted it, Suarez also hit the crossbar and the post so we just need to be more clinical

Downing started the game well, set up the first, and looked a threat. Like the entire side, he went into cruise control after that.

Dirks Engine Room

I dont think anyone can deny that his 40 yard pass for Suarez to his post was a fantastic pass. Put it this way if Alonso had done it we would all be saying it was pass of the season.

Rewflo

He had a 93% pass rate, what more do you want, blood? Get behind our team and they might just repay our faith in them!

Keith

I thought he was superb actually, one of his best games for us. Still lacking a clinical finish but he always looked dangerous in the final third

Red Ollie

If the villa fans cheered their own team as much as they boooeedd Downing, it may have helped AV. I guessed 0-2 score, should have been more.

People are taking these next 3 games too light-hearted.
Our 'achilles heel' if you will is our inability to kill off games and sides that should be dead and buried long before we they score and we lose points. Fulham, Norwich and Swansea are key examples. Never took the crucial chances, and got 2 points out of a very winnable 9. That's 7 points that could've put us into 3rd. It has to be said that we have been up against some heroic goalkeeping displays, and hitting the bar a frustrating amount of times, but still, these are games we should be winning, and must put this into consideration for the next 3.

Wigan away - don't ever underestimate struggling teams at home. Wigan will have momentum after their point against Chelsea. I like Martinez as a manager, he has produced something out of nothing with this Wigan side and I'm betting he's gunna keep them up again this year. Fortunately, we've been strong away this year but this still won't be an easy one.

Blackburn home - Blackburn have been woeful this year, but we have been uncharacteristic at home this year too. Need to get straight into them or they will not hesitate to bring it to us. Can't afford to lose points against bottom 3 sides.

Newcastle home - Newcastle will be eager to beat us to leapfrog us, and avenge us in spite of the Andy Carroll saga. They are a great team but have got to recapture the fortress of Anfield.

These are three games that I think Andy Carroll in particular can thrive under. Three physical games, and with a run of games, we might see his best. Be interesting to see if he lines up against Newcastle, and if so, how. I think Carroll could link up well with Bellamy.

Great performance today, even though Villa were never really in gear. Particularly delighted with performances of Adam, Shelvey and Henderson in the middle. Barely put a foot wrong and it's just astounding that some of you are still faulting them. Want to see Carroll get more game time!

Mr Controversy

Definately mate, good post that.
You may be right about Carroll too, especially if Suarez gets a ban (which I feel he may do, unfortunately).

i would hope any talk of a new defender is untrue as i hope to see robinson/flanagan/coady an wisdom become our new back 4 in next couple of years-i know only the first 2 have played regular for first team but its wisdom who impresses me most-eds what is your opininion on whether these lads can become lfcs answer to the famous arsenal back 4 i realise coady could become a mc {Ed001's Note - Coates in with them and Coady in front of them, that would look a great future defence. For me, Robbo looks the outstanding player, Kelly is ahead of Flanno on the right for me by a mile.}

Bit harsh on Kelly, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique and Coates!! Are any of these over 30 even?? Maybe not a couple of years, maybe 4 or 5 years time... I'm sure those players you've listed will no doubt be used in the coming seasons by Kenny but the defence we have playing the way they are at the moment i dont think we'd change the back line too much... I'd love to see Sterling and Morgan introduced into the first team by the end of this season and maybe Sama in the coming seasons aswell...
Ed, what's your opinion on David Moli? think he has alot more quality than Carroll, its obvious we need a new striker in January, who would you like to see make the move to Anfield (realistically of course) {Ed001's Note - the only player I really really want to see us move for is Higuain, other than that no one stands out for me.}

Yea he's a quality player, i think we'd have a very good chance of getting Pato with Aquilani looking to move to AC in the summer, i dont know if he'll be good enough doh...

eds do you think henderson is good on the wing? {Ed001's Note - I prefer him central.}
