Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

19 Aug 2016 21:25:26
Is it true Allen didn't know of his transfer until a mate texted him about it? If that's true I find that a little disappointing from the club. Great win at the weekend hopefully we can keep the momentum going.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

19 Aug 2016 21:37:03
Allen never seemed the sort of guy to bad mouth a club after leaving so I'd almost believe it to be true, really hope it's not though!

{Ed001's Note - I don't get why it matters. He knew he was surplus, he didn't have to sign there if he didn't want to. Players never used to know about moves until the last second. I can remember saying to one then Liverpool player about his move to another team one night and him being all confused and thinking I had lost the plot. He didn't believe me that he was being sold until he phoned his agent.}

19 Aug 2016 22:22:10
The fact his mate knew before him is far from great it is just common courtesy that the club should inform him before others. It's probably not intentional though by the club to leak it wonton speak.

Hmm but let's flip this on the head, half the reason this site exists is so we can access rumours and news first. That in itself drives these very leaks that we are complaining about. Can't have your cake and eat it.

19 Aug 2016 22:23:17
I personally have to agree with the OP, i think its disrespectful to say the least not to at least inform them of the offer being accepted. Same thing happened to Tony Hibbert after 25 years at Everton, who was understandably hurt by the lack of humility. He may not have been a world beater but like Hibbert, i think Joe deserves better.

19 Aug 2016 23:19:31
I would think the club would have at least contacted his agent indicating they were accepting an offer? Or is it up to the buying club to make that connection? Either way, it's hard to imagine he was too surprised by it happening.

19 Aug 2016 23:10:59
I don't care, as the Ed said he didn't have to go if he didn't want to. At the end of the day each player is the clubs asset to sell so why should they be included in the offer/ acceptance process as this part of the transaction is between the two clubs.

Their contract will mean that when it comes down to it they have the choice to go or dig their heels in. I'm sure little Joe will be fine he's a good player and will thrive at Stoke.

20 Aug 2016 00:04:36
I think it's more his agent not keeping his client informed of the progressing situation.

Allen knew he wasn't first choice, he must have known he was up for sale, especially after being so good in the Euro's. I just find it a bit rich coming from him that he wasn't given a step by step update on the situation. Sky Sports reported that Stoke were bidding and the next few days he was gone.

But then Allen seemed like a stand up chap and always seemed to carry himself professionally, so i'm not going to moan about him, more so i'm surprised by his naivety around his sale to another club (which i believe he had to agree to) . But then that being typed, i do need to point out that i'm not up on how the finer points of transfers work.

20 Aug 2016 00:47:50
Ridiculous. Allen was the first to know when he agreed to the move and when he actually signed. Or did his mate forge his signature and said you're off to stoke?

20 Aug 2016 03:57:16
Well he talk as if he did not take part in salary negotiation and was ship off after news of transfer.

{Ed001's Note - load of rubbish, just like the Tony Hibbert moans when he had been told months before he was not getting a new contract. Players need to grow up.}

20 Aug 2016 04:08:49
Couple things for me - loyalty and integrity should go both ways. And secondly and more related to the OP, I think the right thing to do is at least communicate with the player first once confirmed. Would justseemthe prudent thing to do. Imagine going to work and then finding out on the news you'd been let go lol (i know that isn't a perfect analogy! )

{Ed001's Note - but that didn't happen. He was not going anywhere until he agreed terms with Stoke, so no move could take place without his agreement. He is just being childish, expecting the club to chase him round the world with news of every bid and the details. Grow up Allen! You knew you were up for sale, you were happy to go, the club informed you the moment they agreed a deal so that you could choose whether or not to leave. That is how it should be.}

20 Aug 2016 07:08:03
Couple of things for me- loyalty and integrity. Are you having a laugh, 99% of both left football when Rick Parry 'invented' the premier league just after the FI*A world cup in 1990. They changed our sport into one of the biggest businesses on the planet. I'm over it now, I just try to enjoy the footy.

20 Aug 2016 08:40:50
I would have thought Stoke would have been in touch with his agent to see if he was receptive to the move and what kind of wages he would expect . He knew it was on the cards long before the club accepted the offer.

20 Aug 2016 09:15:58
Serves Allan right for not coming to this site! The Eds would have told him! Lol.

20 Aug 2016 09:42:26
Cheif - that may be so, but doesn't mean ya can't have integrity. I think going off of eds comments, that lfc would be far better received at negotiation time if they acted with more integrity.

20 Aug 2016 09:41:14
Ed001, is it possible tgat allen learned of a fee being agreed as per his story? So he may have only had known he had negotiations comin up after the fact. Anyways, it does seem a bit of a funny one to be questioning it now. I remember a few weeks ago in some articles that it seemed allen knew he was surplus and klopp had suggested as much publicly. Gone now anyways!

{Ed001's Note - how else would it happen? Do people expect the clubs to employ fortune tellers to let players know that a bid might be coming in for them in the future?}

20 Aug 2016 10:22:37
It still doesn't alter the fact that his mate knew before him that the club had accepted an offer for him. If his mate could contact him to let him know, then surely the club could have done the same. In my opinion it showed a lack of respect for one of their employees and a lack of class from the club, which won't have gone unnoticed by the rest of the squad.

20 Aug 2016 10:28:18
Who was his mate Mark Hughes?

20 Aug 2016 11:56:59
i get what you're saying ed. for me, i see it as 2 separate events, and in both cases the club are responsbile for both - they should advise players they deem are surplus to requirements. and then I think they should ensure that the player or his reps are first to know that they have accepted a bid either way, players shouldn't be finding out these kinds of things via the public. or maybe they should!? I'm speaking from an outsider's point of view of course :)

{Ed001's Note - for one, Allen knew he was surplus the moment Rodgers got the boot, as no other manager would want a player so hopelessly mediocre at Liverpool. He was also told so before the Euros. So he knew that he would go, if there was anyone interested in taking him.

Secondly, his reps were the first to be informed when a deal was done. How else could the club complete the deal if the player doesn't agree terms? This is an absolute non-story. The lad is making a fool of himself trying to pretend he was hard done by.

If anything he was lucky to get a chance to join such a great club when he is so utterly mediocre as a player. He earnt a huge amount of money in return. He should just be glad he got the chance, very few do. No one can fault his effort, but he was simply nowhere near good enough.}

19 Aug 2016 17:04:01
Hey Eds, given the recent tour (s) in America, It would seem that clubs are trying to promote the game overseas, including Liverpool. I know that lots of clubs host academies overseas (Liverpool has one in India that I'm sure of) . I was just curious, given our American ownership, are we, or any other clubs for that matter, looking to start academies in the United States? What is the purpose of these academies? (Don't recall any players recently who have come from foreign academies. )

(There may already be one in the US I'm just ignorant to it) .

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Clubs already have academies in the US.}

19 Aug 2016 17:29:00
Apologies Ed. Not real familiar with how it all works.

20 Aug 2016 04:28:48
Main purpose is to promote the clubs brand overseas, I can't recall any incidence of a player joining the club from one of these academies.

20 Aug 2016 07:14:05
Anyone can pay LFC a fee to open an academy anywhere in the world under the LFC 'banner'. LFC also fund certain academies in certain areas of the world (china and india for example) two of the richest countries on earth with billions of unknown talent and potential supporters.

19 Aug 2016 16:43:40
Hi all, I'm just wondering what everyone makes of Brannagan's loan falling through, apparently it's because Wigan wouldn't guarantee that they'd play him in 75% of games. This clause seems odd and a bit self defeating to me. If you're the loanee club the beauty of the loan system is that you get a risk free player, best case is you get a quality player at a cheap price, worst case is you get a bad player which you didn't have to pay for. With the 75% clause the worst case is now that you have a bad player that you have to play or face a fine, that's not a good position for the loanee club to be in.

If you're the loaning club you want your guy to get games, scaring off a potential loanee club because of your demands is against your own interests. Surely you want to find a club where the guy will play because he's good enough to get in the team on merit not because the club's hands are tied. I realise that sending a guy on loan to a club and seeing him sitting on the bench is frustrating but to me that just means the loaning club have messed up by sending him somewhere he wasn't ready for.

Believable2 Unbelievable12

19 Aug 2016 16:57:20
I'm a little on the fence on this one but allow me to present you with a counter argument.

This tactic prevents us from sending a player on loan to club who are merely looking to add depth to their squad, Wisdom springs to mind, which as Klopp said is useless for the player when they'd be better off here training with the squad back at home.

19 Aug 2016 17:05:45
The game seems to be shifting towards these "I play this many games at least or I'm not coming". Personally think it's a silly system. I don't understand the whole guarantees thing (the infamous glen Johnson clause that I don't think existed lol) . What happened to earning your place?

19 Aug 2016 17:09:44
If your picking the right team for the player to go on loan to then I can't see it being an issue.

19 Aug 2016 17:32:03
You don't want to end up in a situation where the guy goes on loan and not only weakens your squad depth, but never gets an honest chance in the loan team. It's quite right and natural to seek guarantees over how much game time the player will get to ensure that the loan is actually worthwhile you the parent club. Wisdom was given as a great example - went to a club, was way better than the parent club owned player but as soon as the club got into trouble he was frozen out because the manager felt their own player had more to lose. Its up to our club to judge how much gametime the young player will need to make it worthwhile and look for guarentees for that to happen. It's only self defeating if really we want them off the books but are putting in barriers to stop them doing so.

19 Aug 2016 17:33:59
Dan, I sort of alluded to that, in Wisdom's case I think Liverpool have some responsibility because they organised a bad loan. In Brannagan's case if Wigan weren't looking at him as a starter why were we even talking to them?

19 Aug 2016 18:27:15
You can no longer recall loans except during the transfer window. Hence the clause, which is to stop clubs just padding out their squad with 'free' players as the correspondent above makes clear.

Previously if a player was just warming the bench you could recall but that option is obviously no longer open.

19 Aug 2016 20:58:30
I agree with muscat, Brannigan needs to go to a team that's going to play him every week, the wee boy deserves that.

19 Aug 2016 21:02:17
Here is an idea. Clubs should just stop stockpiling players. You rarely ever had loans 30 years ago because clubs only had about 15 senior players. If they got into an injury crisis they just pulled a kid out the academy/ ressies. Now you have to loan the kids because squads have gone from about 15 players to more like 30!

{Ed001's Note - I totally agree. For starters they should scrap the window system, as that encourages stockpiling in case of injuries, as you can't just go and buy when you need a player. Instead you end up getting them just in case. Then scrap loans.}

19 Aug 2016 22:28:30
To the op I disagree the point of a loan for club whose is loaning out the player is for the player to improve and gain match experience. It would be self defeating for a club to loan out a player without a guarantee of playing time. As for your loaning in a crap player argument, loans are pretty easy to terminate if they go wrong; a club shouldn't end up loaning in a crap player in the first place if they do their due diligence beforehand.

19 Aug 2016 22:31:33
Correct me if I'm wrong eds but I'm pretty sure clubs such as Chelsea already put playing-time-guaranteeing clauses in loan contract. So I'm pretty sure it's the norm for clubs who are any good at operating in the loan market.

{Ed002's Note - All clubs want loan players to have the opportunity to improve.}

19 Aug 2016 23:40:43
I hate the window system also Ed. Personally, I think telling a human being he can only change job in two set windows in a year is a complete violation of basic human rights, but I won't go in to my opinions on the contractual side of the game!

Purely focusing on the football side, I completely agree with you. The windows force teams into "building a squad" capable of making it to the next window! It shouldn't do, they should just give the youth chances to cover injuries. There is so much money in the game though that they probably think it is more financially safe to have a £100k a week bench warmer than take a risk with a youth player. Totally wrong in my opinion, but sadly I think it will only get worse. This U23 league seems like it will just be abused and used as a way to keep an even bigger squad happy.

I miss a brand of football that I wasn't even alive to remember haha.

20 Aug 2016 08:49:12
It's fairly obvious that our prior loan system wasn't working so needed an overhaul, now people moan about us inserting clauses that address that very issue. If Wigan wanted him for their first team they wouldn't be complaining. The purpose of a loan should always be to develop a player. If they can't guarantee that he's better staying and developing with ourselves.

20 Aug 2016 09:52:45
What everyone seems to be ignoring is that, because of the clause, Brannagan won't get ANY game time. We've shot ourselves in the foot.

19 Aug 2016 15:10:33
Hello,

I've been reading this site for a long time and I really appreciate the amazing job that the eds are doing here.

Ed002 I just had a question about finances and transfer fees and I was wondering if you could shed some light on this. When clubs spend as high as 80 million pounds for a particular player as transfer fees (Temporarily setting aside all the other fees) apart from huge wages, how does a club calculate it's return on investment. I mean winning titles does get you money and maybe greater revenue through sponsors but will the club ever completely recoup such a massive investment? Moreover what is the criteria for measuring the ROI on a player?

I've written a lot and I don't completely understand football finances. It would also be extremely helpful if you could guide me to a few books.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Clubs don't calculate a return on investment against individual players or transfer fees Monosaur.}

19 Aug 2016 19:09:55
Simplistically, clubs account for players in the same way as an insurance company accounts for a chair. If he costs £80m and signs a 4 year contract then he'll be treated aa an asset with a 4 year life in the clubs books so will show as costing £20m in each of 4 years. Look up asset depreciation (or amortisation) . It's never quite that simple TBH but in one paragraph it tells the story.

19 Aug 2016 19:17:44
As people have alludedicated to its beneficial for the parent club and the player but not for the club they're playing for as the manager wants to pick his best 11 for each game. Reminds me of Glen Johnson who at one time had it stipulated in his contract that he had to start at right back when fit. A situation which certainly didn't benefit the club. I think that a suitable loan needs to be found by the club where they feel that the player is good enough to get into the team when fit. It should then be up to the player to make himself first choice.

19 Aug 2016 22:35:02
From what I can gather (never worked in football but am an accountant) - They don't treat players as investments as such, more as assets. The transfer fee paid (and possibly other associated costs) are added to the balance sheet and depreciated over the life of the contract.

This hits the p&l along with the players wages each year (plus any transfer costs that can not be capitalised in the first year) . If a player is sold they take the sale price less the net book value of the player (amount paid less amount depreciated to date) plus any associated costs (agents fee etc) and put that through the p&l as a profit / loss. I presume if a contract extension is agreed the useful life of the asset is extended.

20 Aug 2016 02:52:15
Sounds like you've been watching money all too much monosaur.

20 Aug 2016 09:21:18
My sincere apologies for muddling up names.

20 Aug 2016 08:58:16
Hello

I'm an actuary myself, not much of an accountant, but employees of companies are generally not reported as assets on a company's balance sheet and their wages are treated as expenses on the income statement. When it comes to football would transfer fee treated as an expense or would the club treat that as an asset is my question.

The latter approach would be hard because market value in terms of such an asset would be very hard to determine and it could very easily be overstated or understated. @Tom36 amortizing that would be very difficult and moreover if they treat the transfer fee as an asset it would be hard be hard to present a true and fair view I think right, especially for listed clubs like united.

Ed002 so now am I correct in thinking that transfer fees are just and expense in the income statement and hence the club doesn't calculate a return on investment?

Thanks a lot Ed002 and fellow posters.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Clubs do not calculate a return on investment on the fees paid for players, nor their wages. (b) Clubs can choose to amatorize transfer fees should they wish - some do and some don't - but they must take one approach or the other and cannot mix them. (c) The cost of transfers are listed as capital expenditure on the accounts as the purchase (and disposal) of players' registrations. (d) Players are not tangible fixed assets of the club, they are simply intangible assets.

I hope this helps.}

20 Aug 2016 12:08:17
Yes, that makes things clearer. Thanks a lot Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

19 Aug 2016 15:32:38
Eds. The original Benteke transfer is surely a case of poor judgement on the player's suitability to play in a system. Unfortunately this was the case for Balotelli etc. Who was at fault for all this?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - the manager at the time was making the final decision on all transfers, so the buck rests with him. However, it must be said that the scouting system is very poor at the club, identifying the wrong players completely.}

19 Aug 2016 16:13:25
Is that going to be overhauled any time soon?

{Ed001's Note - has been in a constant state of overhaul for a while now.}

19 Aug 2016 16:49:01
I often think of our scouts as being like that old program on tv "Lost". Instead of being stuck on a weird island, our scouts are stuck at St Mary's. Either "Lost" or "planes, trains and automobiles"

19 Aug 2016 16:48:32
Are you confident it's going in the right direction ed001? Getting the right people in etc?
It does look like it is on first glance but the chilwell fiasco would suggest there are still problems.

{Ed001's Note - but at least now the club are targeting the right kind of players, the ones that would suit the system Klopp wants to play, so it ia step forward.}

19 Aug 2016 17:10:54
Good point ed.
Suppose it's just a case of getting those players in and not messing other clubs about.

19 Aug 2016 13:59:19
Question for Eds about Benteke transfer. My understanding is we paid £16mil upfront to Villa with the rest spread over 5yr contract. Palace are meant to be paying £27mil upfront with add-ons. Given he's only been here a year or so, have we made money on this?

Believable0 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - No.}

19 Aug 2016 14:45:41
I would assume villa would still want their money lol!

19 Aug 2016 15:02:23
Post of the day! 😕.

19 Aug 2016 15:34:16
Ffs 😳.

19 Aug 2016 16:14:59
If you bought let's say a washing machine on a spread the cost deal that amounts to £300 and when it arrived you sold it for £200 would you make money? I mean c'mon this is primary school maths.

19 Aug 2016 16:49:43
Oh wow.

19 Aug 2016 16:49:54
what if you inserted a buy back clause in the washing machine .

19 Aug 2016 16:50:32
Having only paid off 30% of my mortgage, if I sell my house now am I going to make a 70% profit? 🤔.

19 Aug 2016 17:13:02
Red I did, I've ended up paying £3,000 to buy it back, is this what it feels like to be a united fan? ;)

19 Aug 2016 22:34:24
If anyone was offered such a complex deal for a washing machine my advice is to find another seller.

20 Aug 2016 00:37:53
What if you loan out the washing machine with a clause in the contract that it must clean 70% of all clothes?

It could be good for its development, and then we'd finally be able to keep clean sheets.

20 Aug 2016 04:34:39
Careful there Jolly. You're pushing it with the 70% of clothes clause, may cause the deal to fall through.

20 Aug 2016 10:43:27
This thread is gold!

19 Aug 2016 13:57:23
Would anyone else like to see what a midfield 3 of Hendo, Can and Grujic could do this weekend?

Especially with Coutinho, Firmino and Sturridge ahead of them.

Believable17 Unbelievable2

19 Aug 2016 14:22:52
No I think the team should only rotate through loss of form or injury. Everyone bar moreno deserves to keep their place on form and just mane to replace due to injury.

19 Aug 2016 14:24:02
Isn't Sturridge injured Toon?

19 Aug 2016 14:37:57
Welshred84 I'm suing you ;)

19 Aug 2016 14:39:50
Hendostheman, do you not think it should change depending on the opposition?

Welshred, not too sure mate, it was more wishful thinking to be honest. But he has been training with the team this week so who knows.

19 Aug 2016 15:29:21
I can't believe he's stolen your name Welsh Red!

Reading down then I had to have a double look at the names.

It reminded me of the scene from the legendary Zulu

'This is a Welsh regiment, man! Though there are some foreigners from England in it, mind. I am Jones from Bwlchgwyn, he is Jones from Builth Wells, and there are four more Joneses in C Company! Confusing, isn't it, Dutchy'

19 Aug 2016 16:19:57
I think the team should be picked based on form and training. We don't see training so we only have form to go by.

But I would definitely like to see Grujic come in for the injured Mane, with Lallana pushing on into the vacated right forward position.

I hope Milner is fit as well, as I despair when Moreno has to play.

19 Aug 2016 16:50:53
I think the team should be picked on who we are facing as well. Not just fitness and form.

19 Aug 2016 19:25:33
Toon red. No I don't. I believe that perhaps the system should change but not the personnel. Top players should be able to adapt to different systems. Keeping the same team which naturally rotates through injury and loss of form helps to create competition for places and rewards players for maintaining a high performance level. Only my opinion though.

20 Aug 2016 09:11:57
I'd like to see origi come in for mane. Firmino dropping behind origi up top. I think origi has allot of goals in him this season.

19 Aug 2016 13:41:50
The situation with Sakho is has been clearly stated is if we receive a sufficient bid then we will sell him, if not we won't! Simple!

Believable7 Unbelievable5

19 Aug 2016 13:13:56
Hi Ed's, thanks for the good work you guys do. So can you shed any light on are troubled LB area. Is there any genuine players being looked at? Or do you think the position will just be Moreno / Milner. Also are we looking at getting another midfielder? If so who are we looking at? One last thing what is the situation with Sakho will he stay or go after his recent issues over behaviour getting sent home. Kind regards Will Bloxham.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Man, this has been done to death over and over already. I am not sure that there is anything else that can be said. Even Klipperty has spoken on the subject.

The situation with Sakho is as I have explained Will. Try the search engine please.}

19 Aug 2016 15:35:44
When Milner is fit he will be LB if a good enough bid comes in for Sakho he will go RTFP.

19 Aug 2016 12:55:27
Hi ed, thank you so much for the response re my dissertation. My current email is:

--------

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Ok man, I have it it. I have a mass of stuff to get through over the next couple of days but will give you a reply.}

19 Aug 2016 14:09:55
No worries ed, a response isn't urgent as term doesn't start for a while just thought i'd get an early start on my work.

19 Aug 2016 19:53:52
Why the flippin' heck has someone disagreed twice on these posts. get a hobby and get out of your mums box room for a while and see if you can get a girl to talk to you.

19 Aug 2016 22:36:42
Not something to get worked up about Waro, if some weirdo gets a kick out of disagreeing with posts on a banter page I say let em, not really hurting anyone.

19 Aug 2016 09:35:55
Eds, does Klopp rate Moreno, and think that he can bring the best out of him?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you mean by "rate" but Klopp has spoken about him recently.}

19 Aug 2016 11:26:03
What answer do you expect to get to this question? They don't have a hot line to klopps office, listen to his interview wait and see his team selection then form your own opinion on whether he rates him or not. These questions really get on my nerves! Having said that, ed002 does klopp like fresh oj in the mornings or is he a an Earl Grey man?

{Ed002's Note - Actually I like your English Breakfast Tea Waro - I even travel with it.}

19 Aug 2016 11:52:36
Hey Waro, I think you are being a bit mean buddy, it is obvious the Eds have a psychic link to Klopps dog, and via their Dr Doolittlesque magic get all of their inside information from him, as when Klopp has these opinions or thoughts, his magic Goldfish telepathically picks up on it and whatsapps his dog with all the information, his dog has a secret congregation point with the Eds, where they meet once a day, Ed01 turns up with dark shades, a fake moustache, a trench coat, Ed02 in doc martens, a matrix style long leather jacket, and a fake beard up to his ankle, oversize glasses, and a thermos full of tea, they then gather all of the information whilst constantly looking out for people throwing sticks, whilst doing the hoki poki; all of this just so they are ready for these types of special questions! :P

Ed02, I would have thought Chamomile would be more your cup of tea; I don't know how you guys stay so calm!

Peace out to all :)
YNWA.

{Ed002's Note - I have an occasional fruit tea in the afternoon.}

Anything other than PG tips is blasphemy.

19 Aug 2016 12:04:07
Jaffa cakes.

19 Aug 2016 12:06:06
English Breakfast is a good choice ed.

19 Aug 2016 12:09:03
A peppermint tea and watching the dvd EVERTONS 50 GREATEST CORNERS. What better way to spend a ☔ afternoon.

19 Aug 2016 12:29:21
Waro, Maybe a pint of old milk whilst watching the DVD special "Alberto Moreno's 50 greatest drop kicks"?

19 Aug 2016 12:39:05
Can't beat lyons original blend tea from Ireland😀.

19 Aug 2016 12:40:34
I think I'm more into a mug of Horlicks and a DVD of 'lallana's top 250,000 cruyff turns'

19 Aug 2016 12:44:24
Ed002 likes Klipper tea.

19 Aug 2016 12:59:31
yorkshire tea. reet good stuff.

19 Aug 2016 13:23:42
cant believe everyone's talking about tea. I'm with Irish red. Lyons is hard to beat. Someone mention Jaffa cakes?

19 Aug 2016 12:54:21
What did you make out from his recent interview and he got it spot on regarding the first goal. Lallana got dispossessed in the middle and Arsenal squared it. The hate affair on Moreno on this page is utter disgraceful.

19 Aug 2016 13:39:03
Lyons Tea. A man after my own heart. :)

19 Aug 2016 13:43:06
Personally prefer Long Island.

19 Aug 2016 13:55:32
Paradise City, that was class!

19 Aug 2016 14:28:42
Harry, what I made from his recent interview was that he is unsure between Rons suggestion about taking Klipper tea, or Waro's peppermint suggestion, he also liked the suggestion of Lyons, but not too sure on the PG tips tea suggested by MK, as he is against animal cruelty and exploitation of animals in general, hence having a magic goldfish, and a talking dog; as he doesn't want to create friction amongst the LFC supporters he is also staying well away from the Yorkshire tea.

Now the biscuit debate! Jaffa cakes vs Digestives vs Hob nobs; this is a difficult one, but Klopp has said he prefers the rigidity of the hob nobs when dunking, hence his preference for this (that is according to his dog via his magic goldfish) . I hope that clears that up.

As for Moreno, according to Klopps dog, he likes Jammie dodgers, not trying to create controversy, but the dog has spoken!

Ed02, fruit tea eh, always thought you were a bit fruity ;)

peace out :)

I'm with you on Yorkshire Tee. best cuppa going 👍🏼.

19 Aug 2016 15:44:16
Sainsburys Assam for me, but I've always been a little left field.

19 Aug 2016 20:38:56

Hi all, I know the Eds get numerous questions on how a player is transferred etc, so for anyone that hasn't seen it, there is a link on the BBC gossip page at the end to a Web page describing the 7 steps a transfer goes through in the modern game, written by a current football agent. Enjoy.

Ed002 explained it far more eloquently about 5 years ago, and every transfer window since!

19 Aug 2016 12:22:53
I never said it was gospel. Just an interesting read I thought I would share if people are interested.

19 Aug 2016 13:56:26
Yeah no worries buddy. I read the article you suggested. I was giving my opinion on it :)

19 Aug 2016 09:05:34
Best transfer window I have seen from LFC in my lifetime. I'm 21 btw! The only one that comes close for me is 2007 when Torres and maschersno was brought in. In addition benayoun and Babel were also signed.

Sold players that weren't going to play regularly. Recouped more then probably spent! FSG deserve a pat on the back!

I have to agree. Especially on our outgoing moves. In years gone by moving on our unwanted players has been very difficult and often we have had to take embarrassingly large hits on the fees or even release them for free.

I'm also very happy with our incomings as weak areas have been addressed too (GK, CB, Winger) .

Well done Klopp and team.

19 Aug 2016 10:06:55
Not a bad window

Personally feel like we could have done without wijnaldum though.

19 Aug 2016 10:19:47
Hopefully there's more outgoings. We still have a fair few who are no longer getting or will get game time. Still a long to go before we can judge the players who have just arrived but overall i'm delighted with the business we have done.

19 Aug 2016 10:27:49
Im am generally happy, but can't help thinking the £25m spent on Wijnaldum, would have been better spent on Hector, who in my opinion is way ahead of Chilwell.

19 Aug 2016 12:00:00
Are we still slating Wijnaldum? Not our best player Sunday but had an assist and did a fair bit of tidy work. I thought and still think it was a good move. giant upgrade on Joe allen with the versatility to play three or four positions for us. I too would have been pleased to see a left back but I believe in the wiz.

19 Aug 2016 12:35:58
Amerigo

I don't see anyone slating wijnaldum, just people questioning if he was really needed when there's other obvious areas of the team which we need to improve.

19 Aug 2016 12:56:24
@Lavers, Wijnaldum and and left back are completly unrelated.

19 Aug 2016 14:05:52
I think people just saying we could have spent the money in other areas.

19 Aug 2016 14:14:02
It seems Klopp has him marked Wijnaldum for playing on the left of the CM (whether in a midfield 2 or 3). He has played him there in every game pre-season. I like what I've seen so far. As Amerigo said, he has done some tidy work there.

Based on pre-season and the Arsenal game, his role is to play as a box-to-box midfielder - but not quite so 'gung-ho' as a Gerrard type. He has a range of duties. Helping to protect the defence; offer them a passing option/ outlet; picking up the ball from the defence and linking the play through midfield to attack; controlling the midfield; spotting a pass/ through ball/ counter-attack opportunity; getting forward with runs from deep into the box; offering support in attacking transitions. Think the kind of role that Rakitic plays for Barcelona (what a player btw) .

He seems very strong technically, like Allen - but he's more dynamic and direct with his running and passing. He's stronger and faster too. Klopp must rate him highly to give him such an important role - which demands great game intelligence, fitness, work-rate and technical ability. He looks to have a great engine. Seems very fit.

It will take him time to adapt, but he gave a good account of himself. He worked hard to close the opposition when we were without the ball too.

Quietly impressive on his debut. Looking forward to seeing more of him. He could prove to be a great signing. :)

19 Aug 2016 19:36:57
sebrusbass nice one cheers.

19 Aug 2016 22:39:35
Agreed, a left back would've been the icing on the cake.

20 Aug 2016 00:51:07
KloppDaKop - You're welcome.

19 Aug 2016 05:51:53
Mario Balotelli at Port Vale or Wolves will be a sight to behold.

Believable8 Unbelievable4

19 Aug 2016 15:03:21
It looks like Wolves to me, as Balo has a relative living there, also a super agent is now involved in this transfer, or loan deal, only downside is that they want Liverpool to pay a portion of his wages . but I would go with that .

{Ed001's Note - the relative is his father, but as he was given up for adoption, I would not think they are particularly close. Also the agent involved is Mendes, who is not Balotelli's agent and has plenty of his own clients he would prefer to get into the club. So it seems to be just nonsense based on his father being in the Wolverhampton area and Mourinho advising him to drop down a level.}

19 Aug 2016 00:26:10
Looks like the Benteke saga maybe over with a 27m (plus addons) to Palace . Does this effect your status on it not being likely that we bring anyone else in Eds or is it still looking like we're done . Great work on here during the transfer window by the way Eds, a couple more weeks then you can chill for a bit ;-)
