one for you all to mull over, start of 2013/2014 season: manager-rodolfo borrell Director of football-rafa benitez first team coach-jamie carragher defencise coach-sami hyypia striking coach-robbie fowler

not likely at all bit just thought id see what everyone thought.. with the DoF role looking like it could stay, i think that would be a good setup to take us forward for a good few years

also ed's or anyone, what is the situation with jack robinson? read a few things to suggest he might not have the future at the club that we thought he could have had

TomKop7 {Ed001's Note - he has had injury problems.}

Thanks ed. what kind of priblems if u dont me asking

TomKop7 {Ed001's Note - mostly related to growing up, he is likely to go out on loan next season, if he is fit.}

Maybe Sammi once/if he proves himself in Germany.

Otherwise, no thanks. Why should jobs be reserved for former Reds?

Klopp has to be first choice for manager, by a country mile. Then there is Guardiola, Bielsa, etc.

We need to show imagination, like we did when we hired Rafa.

There's been far better players than Carra over the years. Why do a lot of posters believe he would in any way make a better coach than he was footballer? Is it because he's a local lad like Phil Thompson who was a far better player than Carra by the way. Using Phil as an example it's never obvious who will make a good manager or coach. See most managers or coach's playing careers.

Ed,

There is talk of bringing in a creative midfielder.

What about Sergio Canales from Valencia?

He was very light weight when he made his debut for Racing Santander and then went on to sign for Real Madrid.

Though they have loaned him to Valencia but I do believe that he can be bought for 12-15 euros, which is what Valencia have to pay to buy him.

Though he may be brought back by Real, due to Kaka looking to move on in summer and Maurinho not entirely happy with Ozil, what do you think should be our chances if we decide to go for him?

His improved physical strnght means he wont be bullied as he could have been when he was in Santander?

LiverBird {Ed001's Note - I am not a fan myself, his attitude leaves a lot to be desired whenever I have watched him.}

If Mou doesn't like Ozil, i'd say buy him, but he'd cost a ridiculous sum of money, high wages and just not realistic. In saying that, if it could happen i'd be over the moon! one of the classiest players to grace a football pitch at the moment.

Not sure if Ozil would take to EPL. Seems a little delicate. I can see him pulling an Aquilani . . .

He is a German and def stronger than Ozil....

But Ed I do like Canales :P

LiverBird {Ed002's Note - And Canales likes you.}

Usually Ed001 is the one with the humour punch but coming from you, this one is a surprise because some idiots seem to be giving you a rough ride today.....

Dont let these fools affect you.....Working a major part of the day replying to these sadistic views and messages can make any1 go nuts.....All of you are doing a fantastic job in providing us a fantastic platform to share our views as fans....Sad tht some fools do not appreciate the hard work and graft putin by the Eds on this site.....

Thank you Eds

hey ed im just curious because im not sure of this. Is there u15,16,17 age groups for the liverpool youth academy or is it just u18 because i never here about any of the other age groups other than u18s and the reserves!
Cheers,
josh {Ed001's Note - there are younger age groups, Jerome Sinclair, who has played the last few U18 matches, is actually an U16. They just don't play full competitive matches on full size pitches.}

Anyone else think the winners of the Europa league should get a place in the champions league? It would certainly make the teams in the premiership take it more seriously because the rest of Europe do. Just a thought. And no im not saying it because im a Liverpool fan but because it makes sense

There was a small piece on the Echo's website that the Council are finally demolishing the houses that LFC owns on Lothair Road. Don't know about finances, but maybe the wheels are starting to turn. That would allow the main stand to be redeveloped ?

Doubt it, as macca said we are staying at anfield. might be news bout that.

hi eds all reds watching athletico madrid v valencia . i was about to post, saying , i can see why we were interested in diego last summer, could really see him alongside lucas! then , falcao scores one of the goals of the season! fantastic! i was one of us who , when most , were talking about hulk etc , falcao was the one for me! if we were able to pull a big one out the bag falcao would be the one for me. adam johnson would be a great signing too in my opinion. i hope andy carrolls good form continues and gets even better, heres to a big finish to the season redmen! godbless 96 and all redmen steviep48.

He will cost at least 45 million.

Plus he is predominantly very good in the air thereby meaning that we have to play to his strength to get the best out of him.

We have Andy Carroll who is very similar though younger as well.

Great player but we have a similar player in Carroll.

LiverBird

I was watching the Sporting and Bilbo game! hoping to have a good look at who we've been linked with! Wolfswinkel Munian but the player who caught my eye was Diego Capel! He is a good player! He scored a good goal!

Wolfsswinkel is good and so is Muniain.

Though I am a big fan of many Athletic Bilbao players and would love if we were to bring them in but I think it would be the strangling of a philosophy on which the club works plus the ideals and immense hard work of Marcelo Bielda, my favorite coach/manager.......

He is a genuinely innovative coach/manager and brings something new/exciting to the game like Guardiola, Klopp, Dalglish, Fergusson, Rinus Michels, Cryuff.....He is a genuine man and it is unfortunate that he wont be interested to come to England.....I wanted him to come to Liverpool when Roy was in charge but some things are never meant to happen.....

But Dalglish is no less...... A real legend who thinks about the game and is dedicated to playing with an attacking mentality and positive attitude......As a Liverpool fan we cant be happier with him in charge......

LiverBird

Muniain will be an absolute superstar if he can keep his head right, he's shown glimpses of real arrogance over the past 2 seasons, but given his age and how hard he seems to be working on his football, i think he'll soon come good. But a player i'd really like to get a hold of - and i've said this for quite a while now - is Susaeta, he's getting better and better every match he plays, is versatile and when given free reign on a match is a very very dangerous player. De Marcos is killing it lately too.

While most are going on about chelski win over barca wpould just like to say that it was a gutsy performance but have to say that barca play a very sterile type of football and only play in short bursts and mainly when messi has the ball and chelski did well to keep him quiet for long periods. Personally i would prefer to watch a more dynamic approach to the game and think that is what kenny is trying to do with the reds so for me we are goin in the right direction.

Also has to be Mcdermots goal against spurs pure pass and move football best goal ever at anfield

TC YNWA

It was Catenaccio football.

The pitch in Stamford Bridge is smaller and narrower compared to Nou Camp where implementing the same strategy will be a Herculan task and the pitch will also be much wider and well watered for zipping passes....

Barcelona made one mistake though....They ignored that Mascherano may well takea battering from Drogba which he did...Had that been Pique we would be talkingabt a diff scoreline...Though Pique is not the player he was last season, still he would have dealt better with Drogba because of his strength and height.

LiverBird

That goal was just pure class!

Chelsea for the cup, come on you blues. from a rangers fan.

Pique has just had a much more interrupted season that's all. but he's still every bit the player he's been since his return to Barca. Basically Chelsea got lucky. but luck often runs short at Nou Camp... i hope...

Eds just wondering if you thought Fernando Hierro was a possibility for Director of football, with his connections in Spain i think he would be an interesting option. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea. Sorry.}

19 Apr 2012 21:17:20
EDS, some feedback please. if there is to be change of the manager in the near future. if not do you think someone like klinsman, would be a good choice given that a large number of young talent is being produced in germany at the moment and in the next few years the valuation of these players to increase. this is the supposed business model and footballing policy trying to be put into play by the owners. baring bayern and dortmund there really isnt a german team stronger than LFC so attracting the better german youth to the prem with a german icon at the helm. the romantic in me would love to see kk and the boys challenge for the title, but given the way football has changed as a business in the last 10 years, its hard not to think thats impossible especially without investing vast vast sums

Whats wrong in adopting the same model with our own philosophy instead of looking for short cuts.....

If you look for more homegrown talented players there are less chances that they would want to move abroad like Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Meirelles etc.

David Fairclough v St Etienne in the Champions League was my most celebrated ever goal. Another fabulous European night at Anfield. I never gave up on the Reds even at 1 v 3 down.
Best ever celebratory night was in Paris on the Champs Élysées in 1981.
Most hoarse after a win was Istanbul.
Come on Red men let's extend the trophy lead over the mancs as we continue to be England's most decorated football club.

I'd rather not forget him. I'm still a little surprised at his leaving Sevilla last season, he's too good to be in Lisbon as far as i'm concerned. Would be happy to have him in a red shirt.

Hi Eds haven't posted in a while (how have you been?), but have enjoyed watching Sone Aluko for Rangers this season. He is a talented, quick winger who really excites people when he plays. Do you know of any interest from LFC? Fits the young, quick winger we should be looking for and wouldn't be expensive given the financial woes at Rangers.

Thanks

I hope guys going to the game against West Brom give their respects to Roy Hodgson. He took over Liverpool in their worst year ever - financially. Just give him the respect he deserves with no bitter chants please. We're better than that.

BthekingB

Completely agree. Roy is not a bad fella he was just the wrong choice.

88

Here here

Roy Hodgson spent 6 months scratching his head, praising the opposition, sucking up to Taggart and playing for draws. He left with £7m in back-pocket.
ANFIELDPETE

I wish I could be as gracious as most LFC fans, BthekingB mate. So I will say nothing.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

We sacked Raffa for him lol. Roy was the turning point and it has been downhill ever since.
Ill never forget "van der vaart" not his type of player, Scary days. Untill kenny spent 35million on caroll :(

I love the way you have to say the worst year 'financially' ha.

Liverpool have fallen so far lol

CnM

Hodgson sold Insua for £500k, re-signed Aurelio for 2 years & bought Konchesky for £4.5m plus two make weights. He also wanted to get rid of Lucas... Top business!

Roy's a lovely bloke, it just wasn't a good fit at the time... i think he's moved on though, so let him put his time here behind him yeh?

Weve had a better year than Chelsea so far :)

Hi Eds & Reds,

I heard earlier that Victor Moses has rejected an extension at Wigan, I think he'd be a great signing, he's young, good pace, more importantly he can actually cross a ball. I think it would be great to have 2 natural left footers on the wing, okay so if we did sign him, we would loose him for the ACON, but still have Downing.

This would allow Bellers or Maxi play down the right, Henderson is not a natural winger.

IMO, I think Henderson, could be a long term successor to Stevie G, now before every one starts berating me, the kid is only 21, hes still learning, he plays his best through the middle.

Now this brings me to my next point, G Box mate I think you took me up wrong the other night, with the league a dead rubber as it stands, give the like of Sterling, Silva, Coady or Morgan 30 minutes or so maybe in a couple of the games, if they make mistakes, so be, Flanno did against Blackburn and was wrongly criticised by many on this forum, they are young, they will make mistakes perhaps, but giving them the opportunity to step up to highest level and seeing what it takes, can only be of benifit to their fledgling careers.

Rebel_Red

Shelvey is far better than henderson, in order to be good as gerard you got to be as good as he was at 1

Shelvey is far better than henderson, in order to be as good as sg ,you got to be as good as him as he was at 18 never mind 21, henderson im afraid aint an lfc player, hardly notice him in games , he had 2 good ventures up the wing when he filled at right back, but got passed too many times.
5gold stars

Fair enough mate, each to their own opinion, you could argue if Shelvey is that much better, he'd be getting his game ahead of Henderson.

Any ways,I think next season, if we have a fully fit Gerrard and Lucas for the whole season, there will a hell of an improvement, also i think we Skertel and Agger to be fully fit. I've questioned Aggers fitness on a couple of occassion and I think could well think the same if he continues getting injured, so possibly signing an experienced centre half is a possibility.

Rebel_Red

@ Rebel Red

I didn't mean to come across funny but i meant everyone on here wants something to happen, then when it happens and goes wrong they are the first to criticize.

I would love to see the young ones come through and have the odd appearance here and there, but only when they are ready and i don't think most of them are yet, they are still only 17-18 years old.

G BOX

Just because Henderson was bought for tht kind of money doesnt mean that he is a player who has already developed....He is still learning and has to work on his finishing and shooting.....You dont have to be a Gerrard to score goals....But he is a very hard working guy and will definitely contribute more andmore asthe time goes by, like Lucas

I personally believe he plays more similarly to Lampard than Gerrard.....He prefers the inside of his right foot like Lampard where as Gerrrard smashes the ball through the laces or out side of his foot.....This is not to say Gerrard is no good with the inside part of his foot.

But have patience and he is notsimilar to Gerrard as so many have been led to believe.

LiverBird

Moses is english and right footed

Seen a quote today from ferguson ( what a hateful old sh*te) about Benitez calling him a clown, Benitez must have got really under his skin. I just wish the year we finished second to them that Benitez had of had the financial backing to really challenge old blue nose the following season.

Love the fact were getting abused on here by Chelsea fans like that shed end guy who's action after his team beat Barca was to come on here and start an argument.

Seriously man you won just enjoy it

But personally I couldn't care less if Chelsea won and it doesn't suddenly make them a better team because they did. (thats not a dig either cause if Liverpool beat Barca at home in one game they would not suddenly be amazing)

Ignore bell end, even when his team are playing in a cup semi final he still posts on here, not a fan just a crank.

Noticed Sterling wasn't in the reserve team again this week. Does this mean he could be in the 18 for West Brom.

I don't think he's injured as he was with the first team last week against Blackburn, just didnt make the final squad.

Any info?

Just wondering what everyone's most memorable LFC goals are, not the best, just the ones that made you love Liverpool!

Some examples for you...

Collymore v Newcastle 96, to win 4-3 in an epic
Mellor v Arsenal 04, to win late on
Fowler v Aston Villa 96, pass, pass ,pass, turn, screamer!
Torres v Blackburn stunning volley
Owen v Arsenal FA Cup Final 01, to win FA Cup
McManaman v Celtic 97 run 3/4 the length of the field
Riise v Man Utd 01, stunning freekick
MacAllister v Everton 01, another stunning freekick
Gerrard v Man Utd 01, just because!
McDermott v Spurs 78, Johnson to Heighway to McD!

For me the first memorable goal would be McD's but Mellors and Collymore's are always in the back of my mind!
I'm sure Dalglish, Rush and Keegan should be in there somewhere, but may e I'm showing my age.

Your thoughts...

Gerrard's goal when we we were 3-0 down in Champions League final.....

Gerrards 2006 fa cup final equaliser. Take a bow son.Take a bow

For me, Smicer's in Istanbul... The turning point from dread and despair, through to optimism and hope that maybe, just maybe... Nick.

Djime Traore's own goal for burnley. Single funniest thing I've ever seen, didn't even care we lost. I mearly wet myself.

Crouchs bicycle kicks vs Bolton and Galatasaray. Both hilarious and stunning in one bizarre moment

Either one of Alonso's goals from inside his own half vs Luton and Newcastle. Such confidence and audacity, one of a kind player.

Luis Garcia's 'phantom goal' should also get a shout.

Danny Murphy vs leeds. didnt get free kick, got it back and lobbed keeper from deep wide position. Legend.

Mr controversy

For me mate (I have said it before on here) its definitely McDermott against Spurs in 78.
My favourite goal ever

Kenny's goal at Stamford Bridge. When he was player manager and it wrapped up the league.

Or, David Fairclough's against St. Etienne.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Tommy Smith in Rome,Alan Kennedy in Paris,Kenny v Bruges,Jimmy Case v Spam(77 Cup Final thought we were going to win then),Stevie's equaliser v West Ham and of course Sandy Browns two o.gs in the Derby.

Too many to choose from...... Alonso goal against Newcastle
Tizer red

Dudeks point blank save in injury time when you kinda new it was gonna be ours......i love all our goals so cant pick but that was a save and a half

There's a lot of great recent ones but one of which I have a particularly strong memory is Hamann v Portsmouth. Can't remember what year it was but it was a game at Anfield, Owen crossed from the left to Hamann on the edge of the box and he hit the most beautiful swerving volley plum into the top corner. I was sitting in the Anfield Road end, right behind the goal as it went in, so I probably remember it as better than it was, but still a wonderful goal

Red Ollie

Souness volley against the mancs at the Anny Road end comes to mind early eighties, also Terry Macs volley against Spurs in the Cup 1/4 final at White Hart cul-de-sac anyone remember them?

Paul Stewart's 4th Minute goal against Apollon Limassol in 1992? I was asked the same question by a Scouser this afternoon here in Calgary. I mentioned both Gerrard's goal v Olympiakos in the CL 2005 and his goal in the 2006 FA cup final v West Ham. Truth is, it's too difficult a question to say. I remember Jan Molby's goal when we beat united 2-1 win in the league cup in 1985. Classic solo run.

Like a couple of others posters, I pick Garcia vs Juve 2005 because of the commentary:

John Aldridges volley against Forest in the F.A. This is the problem with Diving...It has become part of todays game (sadly) we can name loads of players in other teams that dive Young, Drogba, Ronaldo Blah blah blah and the other teams will go on about Gerrard, Suarez and Carroll the argument cannot be won as more and more players fall over for no God Damn Reason its getting beyond a joke... Also i think we will win against Chelsea 3-1 Suarez, Carrol and Maxi and for them believe it or not Torres...I think we will have more reason to win and that is to shove it up the ass of the small amount of chelsea fans who had no respect for our 96 angels..Gerrard and Carra always tell the new lads about what LFC and its history means to them and what it should mean to all squad members and i think they will go all out to win it for all the fans in this life or the next...Y.N.W.A

Shed end and pinky you make me laugh giving it the biggun! Concentrate on that 2nd leg before coming on here, it's the only game I don't mind carra in defence. He can keep all ur oaps in his back pocket

I clearly said on my post, REGARDLESS of the second leg. Its hilarious how obsessed you all are, every 3rd or 4th post on here is about Chelsea. Your 8th in the league, no CL in seasons and your giving us stick about just scraping through a first leg semi win against BARCA, who do all think you are, the lot of ya have a major god complex, your history means nothing, your club is irrelevant

Well SHED END our club is much bigger then the russians play thing. We are a much more popular club maybe thats why you seem to spend all this time on the Liverpool banter site.

Only an person would say 'your history means nothing'. How else can a team's greatness be described by any other means? I'm sorry, but history is everything. If Chelsea were to win the CL, I would say that you would have every right to boast about it. According to you, you wouldn't be able to, because you did it in the past. Surely even you can't be that thick. (P.S. you can come onto these pages gloating when you have won 5 of 'em!) Nick.

Mate wembley south it's called..... U need to recognise!! How many rejects have you bought from us now? Talk on this page when you can keep a manager for more than a year. Mourinho?? How many years ago was that? Your not a club your a Russian play toy..... God help you when he gets bored

Can't wait for next week to come round. Its going to be hard to stomach the Chelsea fans this week, but it will all be worth it when they get knocked out next week, oh and get beaten by Arsenal at the weekend. On a separate note, did anyone hear Iniesta complaining about not getting a pen yesterday? or how Drogba dived fdor 90 mins, or how Ashley cole dived? No we didnt but we keep on hearing about the injustice of 2009! El Pistolero

Press reports are notoriously inaccurate when it comes to signings. Journos are lazy and rehash old stories frequently. Piers Morgan wrote that when he was editor of the mirror the journos would make up lots of Arsenal rumours to please him as he is a Gunner (poor Arsenal).

Kalou, I am sure is a rehash. Hopefully our scouts are working overtime in Europe finding some gems. I really don't want to be linked with Moses, Kalou et al.

Another advantage of foreign players is that when they are new to a country/city they have relatively few friends outside the club and so are more likely to spend time with their families and not be out on the town.

Its the same in top finance jobs, companies prefer to hire clever French or German blokes who are more dedicated to their jobs as they have less of a social life compared to their domestic competitors.

Suso is technically the best player in our academy. Rodelfo Borrel shud develop him into a left footed version of iniesta.

this is to edd1, who out the crop of youngsters are liverpool hopefull of breaking threw?,obv sterling, i watch the lfc channel, i deffo think robinson is nailed on more so then flannagan, suso has something about him but i really like that kristian adjozen (spelling), just your thoughts.
frankyscouse {Ed001's Note - the young right back Mclaughlin, and Ngoo, Jerome Sinclair and Nacho are also held in high hopes. Oh and Coady.}

I think Wisdom could be a star also.

I wonder why Mclaughlin was not involved with the reserves . Was he injured or involved with the first team ( i dont see any reason for being involved with the first team with johnson and kelly back ) . So any information ED?

Enrique = munian - these sound good lol

Seems exactly like last season!

What on earth are you talking about?

How on gods green earth can you say enrique=munian?
That is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever read. They are completely different players that play different positions.

its maybe just my opinion but if i got the chance to bring on new players in summer i would bring a winger who can score goals, a goal poacher/fox in the box type player and a young replacement for gerrard for future.

my choices would be straight roberto soldado, pedro rodriguez and strootman from psv.

i think its much easy to sign pedro than muniain.

collins

If I got the chance to bring in a new player it would be Messi

Starscream

I'd even have C.Ronaldo at Lfc he might dive and cry like a bitch every now an again but he knows where the back of the net is and has crazy skills...I hate him as a person but cant doubt his abilities

If i had a choice I'd bring in a Goalie who can score goals (Rogerio Ceni comes to mind), a right back who can score, a centre back who can score and finally a holding midfielder who can score too. So what if the scoreline ends up looking 10-8 or something?

Maybe pedro could come and be like LuisGarcia

I'd just like to say I agree with Kenny and I hope Roy Hodgson gets a good welcome this weekend.
It didn't work out for him with us but that doesn't make him a bad manager, just wrong club wrong time, and it certainly doesn't make him a bad bloke

Chris in Tamworth

His philosophy didnt match what we want to implement

Sorry can't bring myself to wish him a welcome... I just want to forget he was ever our manager. Despite the stress of this season those six months of his reign were the worst in my life... from the awful press conferences to the atrocious football. I'm still in therapy because of it... forever he will be Bodgson to me...

Richards

Look, I wasn't a fan of his tenure either, but it's not like he did it on purpose.
Let's remember who we are and extend a little warmth

Chris in Tamworth

I don't expect him to be booed Chris, just a polite round of applause. I don't blame him for taking the job, but he certainly wasn't the right man for the job.

Unfortunately his buys were atrocious, his playing style was diabolical, his press conferences unforgivable and his points tally/league position was just not good enough!

I think out of all his buys we only have Jones (£2m+!) and Aurelio (what was he thinking!) left, not including the loans we can't get shot of!

dmedly

Agree with dmedley chris... i wont be saying anything derogatory about him, i just won't mention him again... ever.

The moaning about Chelsea really needs to stop, yes Drogba's diving was embarrassing but i'm sure even the Chelsea fans will admit that. Lets face it they beat Barca which takes some doing, maybe they rode their luck a bit but the final score was 1-0. This is all happening while we cant even qualify for the competition, i'm confident champions league will come back to Anfield but for now maybe we should just respect what other teams are doing and focus more on Liverpool instead of sounding bitter.
One thing i did find quiet funny was the commentator described Barca as the best team on the planet yet they are currently the 2nd best team in Spain.

always a red

Mate first of chelsea rode thier luck 3 attempts 1 goal secondly thier 2nd but were how many points behind o ye 8 were are they now 3 points behind and they are the best team on the planet probly the best team to ever grace a pitch

The thing is with this diving you are in danger of real injuries being missed ,in the wake of the guy in italy dying and Fabrice muamba nearly dying I think ALL players should have a long hard look at it and for the sake of football and respect for fellow proffsional cut it out ,not that it will ever happen but if i was playing against drogba i would never kick the ball out when he was down injured

Brillaint response by 3rd poster.. the PFA should have a word but the players need to take a long hard look at themselves. Carrol for example dived against Newcastle yet he claims to still be a huge fan... lack of respect gets my goat. Drogba last night was a disgrace, he had the beating of 4ft2 Mash all night but kept hitting the floor like a sack of s**t. On a lighter note though it's nice to see Surez keeping on his feet more in the past few games. If your good enough why dive? Messi gets tapped all the time and 9/10 stays on his feet

Mourinho previously called our goal chelski a phantom goal, so what was the second goal for chelski called?
Mourinho also said teams park bus when playing chelski, i would love to know what they parked against barca yesterday?
Drogba man unbelievable how does he keep getting away with it?
Ashley young is the best diver in the prem, what should we call drogba?

What's this got to do with LFC? If all you have to talk about it Chelsea, go over on their page.

Hi Ed after chelsea semi final victory last nite i thought what a change of fortunes for chelsea after managerial change. I pray when lfc bring new manager our fortunes and luck will change like that. Ed do u expect managerial change will take place at lfc. and who u reckon is strong candidate for lfc. {Ed002's Note - We will see in the summer but I suspect there is a good chance of a change.}

If reach0ing two Cup Finals and winning our first trophy for six years constitutes failure, what on earth would a new manager have to achieve in his first season to be regarded as a success? Nothing short of winning the league would do. Impatience has its price.

Just a random question to the other readers
There's always stories about players diving and making the odd bad tackle but I never hear any complaint about fallaini every time I see him play and I mean every single time he smashes his elbow into the nearest players head and I can't recall any punishment for him if there's one player in world football who should be banned for life it's him. Sorry for the random post and please correct me if wrong. It's just whenever I see divers I just think there's no need to do that but I'd rather diving than a chump with a stupid Afro trying to break everybody's face.

I remember seeing Rooney do that and all he got was a cuddle from the ref!

Keith

Keith, it always has to come back to Utd with you lot, get over this silly obsession, the post was nothing Utd related, Rooney once, Fellaini does it every week

19 Apr 2012 13:16:52
I agree with the other posters about drogba diving. He has the skill or at least did a few years ago to be one of the best in the world if he just stayd on his feet but Suarez is the same but Suarez is almost ten years younger I think than drogba so he still has the potential. Drogbas lost it all now so the only real skill he has anymore is diving. Think of it this way we only have to put up with drogba till the end of the season probably but hopefully the chelski fans will be complaining about Suarez for the nex 6-7 years. And don't be bitter about them beating barca. They played crap but the effort was immense and if they play like that in the next leg they will be knackerd for the final against us. Easy pickings another trophy in the cabinet and nothing for chelski at the end of the season.

And il think you find we were the only english club to beat barca in the camp nou.

We need to be realistic abt players who we can sign I can't see the owners taking any more risks on players like Carroll they will want to sign proven goalscorers or proven wingers probably from the premier league so players like kalou r a possibility because he has premier league and champions league experience n maybe demba ba if he does have a minimum release fee

Rubbish

Tom recently said we have the financial power to compete with everybody!
And please don't tell me players won't come to Liverpool because we have no CL!
A club like Liverpool has and will always attract "big" players with or without CL!
You just must have an exciting project in which the players are interested and the financial power!
We have both! {Ed002's Note - He said nothing of the sort.}

I dont think we will be able to attract europa league players to be honest

The original poster is right actually. I simply dont see FSG spending more than 25million+sales. Forget world class players, they all want ucl. Suarez was an exception. I dont see us spending 35 million on a player for the next 3-4 seasons.

Chelsea new they had to play that way, Everytime Barce win the ball back go down stop them getting into a rythem, Plus chelsea's goal wasnt a great counter attack in open play, All credit to them for out thinking barce, Yes barce are and were better but its about winning and Chelsea won, well done CFC

he is very stong and quick and feel his body is probably more ready than the likes of suso/sterling/adjoran, but what i have noticed is his decision making, if the guy got his head up sometimes would be more of a complete player! think hes got a better chance than morgan imo! just an opinion guys before u slate me!

if those deluded chelski fans with their plastic flags think they have a chance or beating barca in the nou camp then they they really need a dose of reality. Their awful tactics of hoof and dive was disgusting to watch.drogba should be banned for life for his antics.he has been geting away with it for years and refs turn a blind eye.they will never win the call.played off the pitch in their own ground there will be only one outcome in camp know.justice will be done. From drogba the biggest diver the world has ever seen

I think they got there tactics spot on, if you play a beautiful pass and move game against barca they'll tear you apart, the way to win is to smother them, be compact and him them on the break, which is what chelsea did, well done. I understand the frustrations of fans that find it hard watching other english teams in the CL, i too want to hear "CHAMPIONS" ring out around anfield once more, i too want the european nights to remember, but the hard truth of it is, we are'nt good enough yet. Lets not be bitter, lets get behind an english team in the compitition, lets show some national pride. well done chelsea, good luck in the nou camp

Chillout mate they set up well last night and won the leg. Drogba was bad but then so are half the Barca team usually and so are many others in the modern game. Anyway a great result for Chelsea last night - are you jealous because L'pool arent in the CL or something?

Gav

Barcelona would play any team off the pitch. I think you and a few of your ilk need to get on the Everton page. Talk about bitter. Stop being jealous. Whether they go through or not, it was a fantastic result.

Taffytel

Bad mouthing other teams comes across as bitter, or hypocritical. Why do it?

We have our share of divers. As does Chelsea. As does Barca. Some Barca players' behavior in the past has been shameful.

And Barca the club is as cynical as they come. Do you remember the sprinklers turned on at half-time in the Nou Camp a couple of years ago?. And now they complain about the pitch at Milan?

Real poor of the original poster. Come on man, we need an english team doing well in the ucl, or one day a time will come when only 3 teams from england will be allowed to qualify, which isnt good news for us. The result is more important than how u get the result. So well done to chelsea. But they r due a spanking at the nou camp and wembley.

The ITV commentators summed it up perfectly at the end of the 1st half when talking about the goal by Drogbar (that's how his name gets pronounced by them for some reason - in a similar way to us previously having to endure Bennynoon).

Anyway.........They said something like "Drogbar rose majstically to his feet to score".

Chillout mate they set up well last night and won the leg. Drogba was bad but then so are half the Barca team usually and so are many others in the modern game. Anyway a great result for Chelsea last night - are you jealous because L'pool arent in the CL or something?

Watering the pitch is very common, and once wet it is still predictable, it doesn't really benefit one team, as both teams have to play on it, it just makes passing a little more swift.
As for Milans pitch, that was just ridiculous, loose patches and massive bobbles, unpredictable and just not good enough for CL football. Even Milan would've hated playing on that aswell, but were not so outspoken against their own ground staff.

Red7.

"it doesn't really benefit one team"

Of course it does. It benefits Barca. Why do you think they did it? lol. Pure gamesmanship to tinker with the pitch halfway through a match.

The FA are a frickin' disgrace !!
-Semis at WEMBLEY?!
-s**t referees?!
-TV coverage to the highest bidders
-Pathetically low number of coaches
-Disregard to proper fans re tickets
-Incompetent control over foreign-ownership
All of the bodies governing our game in this country are unfit for purpose.
I won't get a Cup-Final ticket yet a third of the crowd will be "spectators".....people granted attendance via their association to the FA.
I've booked the day off work and will resign myself to watching my beloved team on telly.
Win,lose or draw I'll be pissed off to varying extents.
The Football Association are guilty of biting the hand that feeds them and they will regret it!
ANFIELDPETE

Mate, it's always been the same down there. In fact, when the ground was 100,000 capacity and there was terraces, I think the two clubs only got about 22,000 maybe ?
Having said that, you were guaranteed that, if Liverpool were playing. there would be double that number of Reds there. I was at the 88 Cup Final and I have never seen as many Liverpool supporters, maybe 60,000 or more that day.
So you could always get tickets that were floating about. But the difference was, they were still relatively affordable.
These days mate, it is silly money. They're available on the web, starting prices about £550. For a £50 face value ticket !
The Real KB

Went down in 89 on a coach from Kenny Fields, think only about 10 on the coach had tickets but we had a rope which the lads dropped down in the corner of the ground and a load of us scrambled in before the bizzies came. The stewards in the ground just seemed to turn a blind eye. Maybe it was because of Hillsborough? I don't know? They just told us to stand at the back with the rest there was 100s of us. Wouldn't happen this day and age. Great memories of that day and the atmosphere in and around the ground. Though it would never happen this day and age, you would get arrested.

I say, well done to Chelsea, they had a game plan and stuck to it.
Thought Cahill and Terry were outstanding in defence, and Drogba had a great game (did everything a striker should, in contesting each and every ball).

It was great to see Barca beaten (for once), and I say good luck to Chelsea in the 2nd leg.

Food for thought.

Getting a bit fed up with criticism of Carra, Dirk and now Flanno. Always thought giving your all deserved respect.

I would give my all if picked to play for the Reds. It's not enough, is it? You have to be good enough, as well as giving your all.

Carragher is being done a disservice by being picked by the coaching staff. He is well past it, and now it is tarnishing his legacy.

Being good enough is more important than giving a 100 percent every game. If working hard was the only criteria for making it in the liverpool team, u can bet i wud be playing week in week out at anfield coz that wud be my dream. On the point with Drenthe, I have heard the rumour about not playing due to speaking with us,however yesterday I heard something entirely different. I was told he will not play for Everton again as he was witnessed leaving a restaraunt with the wife of a member of the board or upstairs hierachy?
He does have a bad image but he can play lwb or lw, with Aurelio going and Downing struggling this year I think it would be astute business to poach the lad, and droph his wages to more like 60k.

What is the condition of shelvey development ? Will he able to drove liverpool midfield like gerrad done ? I have seen his one quality he never loses the ball and play very calmly. Hey honourable eds and fellow readers posters we need to debate on it like we done on flanno...
INDIAN RED

I really don't want another player to become the 'new Gerrard'. The old Gerrard has been an exemplary player for the club yet his undisciplined positioning unsettles the structure of a team. I would rather have a 'new Alonso' type.

Long live the King

The second poster is right. Rather have the next alonso than another gerrard. Alonso was more disciplined in the centre and had better composure. He made the entire team tick. Dont get me wrong, gerrard is a fantastic player, but xabi is more consistent.

Liverpool are clearly a selling club who have no idea how to find value for money in the market place. They are also a club that has stripped the squad of any value. So who will leave at the end of the season for big money so we can buy new players? Liverpool reputation must make it extremely difficult for them to find a bargain. Other teams see us as a big team with money. So put up their prices.

i could wait forever for a 1st pl title, i will still love the club. though, i can see us challenging for it again within 2 years. after the way the club has been handled for the past 20years, im not surprised its taking so long to sort out.. but we have a foundation, now we build...
i think if we can just get a goal scorer and a winger in the summer, we will push into top 4 next season. the ideas are there and chances are plentyful..
we dont concede many..
we just need a goalscorer, badly..!

2 cups this season (i think we will beat chelsea), with europa league next season.. that will do me.

what will chelsea have by the end of this season.. and next? any ideas folks? :)

ryan c belfast ynwa

You think we will beat the team who has just beaten barca last night..!!

Very wishful thinking...! we might have crushed them thrice already this season but they have the quality and more important , momentum with their side..

Musicnation

They may have beaten Barca, luckily? But it doesn't alter the fact they are slow with more than a couple of dim witted players.
Also let us wait and see how they get on in the Nou Camp.
kidmillions

I'm pretty sure chelski won't defend for 90 minutes against us, we'll deal with their long ball better too.. They might have momentum but do have we. We'll beat them and rub it in the faces of the few disgusting disrespectful fans they have!

Aldos tash

Think we should all be realistic here.
If Chelsea go through, it might be good for us, it will distact them, their focus is CL and CL qualification, the FA cup is a distant 3rd.

They will fear us less than barcelona. they won't play so negatively which may well end up being their downfall. they also might be in the champions league final which may in turn mean they have one eye on another prize. let's just wait and see how it unfolds.....

I'm not sure why Reds fans are rooting for Barca. If Chelsea make the CL final, that will benefit us in the FA Cup final. And winning that match is all I care about.

kh if u think im off because barca had most chances and most of the ball i have a memo for you LIVERPOOL COULDNT WIPE THE AR E OF BARCELONA. Our defence was solid all game, we showed unbelievable discipline and most importantly scored. Something barca couldnt do. When we get a 2 1 at the nou get your knife and fork ready mate because you'll get the first serve of humble pie. melbourne cfc

Ahh melbourne, been readin your posts for a while now, if thats melbourne victoria, , sporting capital of.......melbourne, fellow reds let me explain about melbounites, arrogant, egotistical, self obsessed hated by the rest of australia, and for good reason.
Played well against Barca, i'll admit that much, but looking at Barcas home record you lot have got a snowballs chance in hell of winning the tie, then of course there is the second kick in the goolies that will be the 3-1 defeat at Wembley you will suffer at the hands of King Kennys Krusaders. Anyway keep postin mate, i love havin a laugh at your posts, your imagination is first class.

West Aussie Red.

P.S go the Perth Glory in sundays Grand Final ( melbourne didnt make it boo hoo ) {Ed003's Note - I wont even bother editing your posts in future if you carry on using that sort of language,children read this site aswell }

Nobody cares, the fact you're from Melbourne which is the other side of the world renders anything you say invalid anyway, gloryhunter.

You going to put your European cup next to the other one you have ? Ohhhhh wait i've forgotten ........ you haven't won it yet have you ? Awkwardddd.

We will see...But don't worry you won't have to eat the humble pies. Frankie will devour all of them.

Sorry ed 003,didnt think it was too bad, but i'll take that on board, thank you for your understanding.

Im from New Zealand mate, does that make me a glory seeker because i support liverpool? No, i support them because I love them. It doesnt matter where you come from in the world, he supports chelsea and thats fine. He is a tool but not because he lives in aussie and supports Chelsea.

Melbourne CFC Their's only one English team to beat Barca at the Nou Camp! do you know which team that is?

Does anyone know why LFC are playing at 4pm on Sunday even though we're not on the tv?

dmedly {Ed003's Note - So I can catch the 2nd half on a stream after work :-) my powers within the FA are good ;) }

Lfc must of been tv game when fixtures where done, but both blackburn and liverpool kinda have nothing to play for. so it hasn't been picked up.

hey eds I think daniel sturridge would be a great signing for liverpool and just one or two more good signings will do it. what do you think eds? {Ed003's Note - Not for me}

Plz do not sign sturridge!!
leave him where he is thank you.

Sturridge is a quality player (But I don't think we'll get him)

if i was manger of liverpool this summer:
Out:
Henderson
Adam
Aurelio
Downing
Kuyt

In
Falcoa or Hulk or Cavenni or Laverrzi
Adam johnoson
Hazard
de jong

oh and rather than believable or unbelievable lets go with Agree or diagree if you would od something similar

Question, do you think you'll be able to get decent money for these players. I don't see man city or man utd paying for these players. Aston Villas, evertons wouldn't want to pay for them. So it really comes down to fact who is marketable.

Who can we sell for a profit.

Falcoa, hulk, and cavani are completely unrealistic. Lavezzi is a slim possibility if suarez leaves and hazard no way. And thats just your ins, let alone your outs.

KiwiRed

Well we are all entitled to our opinions, here's what I make of what you said, in my humble opinion:

Henderson will be class, it's obvious. Eng U21 captain, showed his versatility, has a strong desire to win, just needs to learn to be more vicious around the box when shooting and get into better positions in the box, showing great ability for a player at his age.

Adam I agree with you he's not going to improve much. But I'd give him one more season, using him more sparingly from the bench.

Aurelio is more or less gone already

Downing, he's been getting better and better and been playing extremely well as of late. I would keep him.

Kuyt is great when coming on from the bench, a world cup finalist and seems like a good player to have in the dressing room, but I'd only let him go if he wanted to for first team footy...he deserves that

Falcao would be an excellent signing and what we need.

Hulk is very overated and wayyyy too selfish on the ball to fit into the Liverpool way.

Cavani would be a fantastic signing but is too similar to Carroll who in my opinion will be just as good as cavani when he's his age. Hard to believe now I know but I can see his immense potential, it's down to him how far he goes, but he seems so much more focussed, and has an aura of a point to prove since being booed off at the newcastle match, hence his two winning goals (hopefully another at the FA cup final).

Lavezzi would be a perfect signing as he's just what we need, it'll be like having two suarez's imagine:

Suarez Lavezzi
Carroll

Adam Johnson I'm a big fan of and is extremely skilful for an English player, would welcome him with open arms.

Hazard from what I've seen can be world class but he also has a world class ego and will likely end up at the Real Madrids and Man City's of this world.

De Jong is one of the best in his position, think he would be an excellent signing, although I prefer Lucas but having both would be make us so much more stronger.

RMUK

No way will we or should we sell Downing, Henderson or Adam after a shakey first season at a new top level club.

With that kind of short term thinking you would probably have had Man Utd sell Evra and Vidic, Chelsea sell Makelele after a poor first season.

RMUK

I had to read 3 times to make sure I read it properly...

"Cavani would be a fantastic signing but is too similar to Carroll who in my opinion will be just as good as cavani when he's his age"

Taxi!

I guess time will tell Gav, I hope I'm right!

eds out of the realistic targets we have, who would you like to see at the club? ty
{Ed001's Note - to be honest I have no idea who I would want, not out of the realistic ones.}

G.ramirez - M.sissoko - matias suarez would be 3 at the top of my list unsure if they are all realistic targets but i think they would greatly improve us
