Hi ed

Im not sure if you know mate but there were know pictures of Lallana Wijnaldum Firmino or Sturridge today at training. Do they all have knocks?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - off the top of my head I don't know sorry.}

18 Sep 2016 19:20:10
Hi eds, was just going to ask your opinion on who the best ever player from the UK is?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - the best I have seen in the flesh, or live on TV etc, is Kenny Dalglish, but it is hard to look beyond George Best as the best ever from the UK if you include those I have only seen in video form.}

18 Sep 2016 19:37:32
Best I've seen in my lifetime is Bale or Gerrard.

Best I've seen based on Videos is John Barnes!

18 Sep 2016 19:57:38
Zidane, all day everyday.

18 Sep 2016 20:04:12
Could be wrong here but I'm sure Zindane isn't from the UK.

{Ed025's Note - he could play football sid...which automatically rules him out from being british.. :)

18 Sep 2016 20:07:28
That must be the other zidane and not the French one. Has to be Barnes for me.

18 Sep 2016 20:09:26
Didn't realise Zidane was from uk mate . Where we talking? Leeds? Glasgow? Gerrard is the most complete player I've ever seen in 30 years .

18 Sep 2016 20:16:12
Ed025 that's very true mate.

18 Sep 2016 20:48:09
Bestie for me too.

18 Sep 2016 21:35:52
Zidane for me too.

18 Sep 2016 22:38:15
Got to be Zidane, travesty he never got the England call up.

18 Sep 2016 22:43:25
Kevin Keegan.

19 Sep 2016 00:54:44
Funny how defenders and keepers rarely get a look in when talking about best ever players. Shilton would be up there for me.

{Ed007's Note - Jimmy Johnstone.}

19 Sep 2016 02:41:01
Dietmar hamman.

19 Sep 2016 04:49:31
My vote goes to Chris Waddle, he form a great partnership with PAP in. Oh well. from past era.

19 Sep 2016 05:14:55
Has to be Best Or Gazza.

19 Sep 2016 06:56:13
Pele for me. oh no, you mean he's not english?

19 Sep 2016 07:57:19
George best all day long.

19 Sep 2016 10:09:36
The rocket Ronnie O'Sullivan most naturally gifted and Stephen Hendry a close second.

19 Sep 2016 19:01:08
Wayne Rooney.

19 Sep 2016 23:55:46
Carlton Palmer.

18 Sep 2016 19:18:13
Funny to see how the mood has changed on this site, 2 weeks ago everyone was saying we'll be finishing mid table again. But now only city are above us in ability. Let's wait and see.

Believable13 Unbelievable6

18 Sep 2016 20:35:03
the nay sayers nowhere to be seen as usual. they will be back next time we lose.

19 Sep 2016 07:01:09
It is quite amazing how ever win makes the side unbeatable but every loss means everyone is rubbish, our transfer policy is broken, we don't have any world class talent etc.

Think it's going to be a great season, think we have a good shot at top 4 and a cup win myself.

As Rudyard once said (with a bit of poetic license), if we can treat wins and defeat the same along the journey well be a lot stronger for it.

19 Sep 2016 07:22:58
+1 zimbo. Anyone for a bit of Kipling?

19 Sep 2016 08:08:05
Would never say no to a bakewell tart andy. Thanks for offering.

19 Sep 2016 11:08:25
Or as the other Kipling said "midnight feasts taste better with cake". equally inspiring stuff.

19 Sep 2016 10:50:22
Hi zimbo and AndyM. I'd rather have a bit of 'kibbeling'. You must try it next time you are in Holland. I'd wouldn't argue with slowdog though as there are some nice tarts in Bakewell.

19 Sep 2016 13:10:51
Whatever could you mean papetwee ;)

Makes me nervous to google kibbeling now, not sure what sort of website it'll take me to.

18 Sep 2016 17:40:14
Hey Ed. If you've got the time, I'm sure a lot of us on here would love to hear what you made of the game against Chelsea on Friday.

Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - did I not already do a match review yesterday morning?}

18 Sep 2016 18:03:12
My apologies ed. I always make an effort to read everything posted here daily. No idea how I missed that ha. Thanks anyway, was a good read.

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, thank you.}

18 Sep 2016 18:05:35
Not sure Ed. Rtfp! šŸ˜‰.

{Ed001's Note - hahaha.}

19 Sep 2016 02:47:02
was good reading your pre-match too ed001, bt didn't have the time to respond to it.

{Ed001's Note - ok cheers mate, I will try and make sure to get one done before each Prem game.}

19 Sep 2016 13:13:43
Likewise good read Ed, I also expected Klopp to go with Firmino upfront and was glad Sturridge got another run in the end, even if wasn't at his best in the end.

Hope he uses Llalana vs Derby and Coutinho in midfield vs. Hull leaving Mane, Sturridge and Firmino upfront again.

18 Sep 2016 16:10:27
Who are we picking for Tuesday then lads?
I'm assuming Firmino will be given more time to recover and will not play and perhaps ManƩ will be given a break?
I feel we can stick with the same defence, they are developing a good understanding but I'd quite like to see Karius given a game.

I'd also like to see Grujic, Ojo (if fit), Ejaria and Ings.
Really hoping and expecting we win in 90 mins, need to maintain momentum. šŸ˜Ž.

Believable17 Unbelievable4

18 Sep 2016 16:29:41
Perfect chance to play some of the fringe players
Win the game in the first half and make some changes or win it in the second half, with a strong bench.

18 Sep 2016 16:50:53
Grujic, can and stewart in . Can mainly to get his fitness back . Origi up top with ings . Sakho into the backline and karius to get him ready for a season of footballšŸ˜.

18 Sep 2016 16:56:09
I see u winding the mancs upto on the live chat al.

18 Sep 2016 17:03:31
Keep the back line exactly the same except karius in. Bring in Grujic and can for Hendo and lallana and play Ojo, couts and Origi up too. Would leave GW in.

That's what I would do although I may be tempted to play Mane instead of origi or ojo. However I don't expect that many changes but one change I think will happen is Moreno to give him a chance of redemption against a lower team.

18 Sep 2016 17:57:54
Sandon
Ofcourse. Nothing like abit of bait mate.

18 Sep 2016 18:08:45
Karius
Randall, lovren, matip, moreno
Stewart, can, grujic,
Origi, ings,
And someone else too!

18 Sep 2016 18:52:50
Would be a decent starting 11 Unicorn but is Can not injured? Maybe Lucas and Klavan will start at centre back?

18 Sep 2016 19:05:51
I'd go

Karius
Randall, Matip, Klavan, Moreno
Stewart
Llalana, Grujic
Mane, Origi, Firmino

Strong forward lineup to hopefully lock down the win (with Stewart holding midfield to break down any counter attacks) then bring on Can for Stewart towards the end to ease him back in, and also sub Brannagan for Llalana and Ings for Mane after 60 to give them a rest for the weekend.

18 Sep 2016 20:17:57
Both Firmino and sturridge are injured I've been told but both should be ok for the Hull game.

19 Sep 2016 00:54:38
Karius
Clyne Matip Lovren Milner
Can Stewart Grujic
Ojo Ings Origi.

19 Sep 2016 23:47:12
Id like to see karius brannagan ojo and origi in.

18 Sep 2016 15:13:15
Any of you guys going the derby game? I live about a 10 minute walk away from pride park if anyone's about for a drink before hand?

18 Sep 2016 14:29:14
Interesting watching mourinho and united. It will be a long season for them if they're isn't a massive improvemenT. Man City is the only side right now that's the team to beat and they have yet to be really tested. Consistency is key to were we end up. We're certainly offensively miles ahead of united and arsenal.

Believable10 Unbelievable10

18 Sep 2016 15:03:34
He tried to change it today with Rooney and it still didn't work, looks like Rooney is bigger than the club. Can't be dropped but it just getting in the way. It's great to watch. Combining 2 of the best things in football, mou loosing and manure loosing.

18 Sep 2016 15:40:00
Great to see United sinking again. City are a league of their own though. I don't see anyone getting even close to them.

18 Sep 2016 16:13:17
On our day we can match city stride for stride. Firmino is our Dell Brunner equivalent.

18 Sep 2016 16:16:56
It look like the top 4 will be this going off the season so far. City Liverpool Spurs Chelsea.

18 Sep 2016 16:44:53
I think we can more than match city fellas. De byrune is currently their star player. We'll real know when we face them but I don't think we face them until December?

18 Sep 2016 16:53:50
Reus, you've changed your tune from 2 games ago! I thought you said we were heading for another 8th place finish?

18 Sep 2016 16:54:45
Matta rooney is truly awful . I'm not English nor any England fan and I took offence with big sams comments on rooney playing wherever he wants for England . Why does such a terrible underperforming overpaid player get soo much privilege both for England and united? I love when rooney plays however for united, it makes them a weaker team šŸ˜Ž.

18 Sep 2016 17:11:01
I think we're the only team that could match city at there own game and it will be an absolute stonker of a game. Wouldn't be surprised if it becomes an instant classic (ala lfc v nufc) - I think us, arsenal and mcfc will be 3 of top 4 and coin toss for the other spot. That is as long as we sweep aside the lower teams like we should. At this point though hard to predict anything but Citeh winning the league at a canter!

18 Sep 2016 17:45:15
We are the team city least want to play at the moment.

We can definitely beat them, but over the course of the season i expect them to drop less points. Hopefully, starting with Hull, we can put an end to following great performances with horrible slip-ups.

18 Sep 2016 19:17:24
Although we've started well and got some of our supposed harder away games out of the way.

I think its a bit early to be talking final league positions.

Though I do feel not being in Europe will aid our chances of getting top 4.

19 Sep 2016 07:32:07
Top 4 going off the Season so far will be. well, read the table. City Everton Spurs Arsenal.
Sorry, my inner pedant coming out.
We do look like we can mount a very good challenge though. Very good early signs for Everton under Koeman.

19 Sep 2016 13:00:11
Could you really see Everton getting 10 points from the fixtures we've had? No way.

19 Sep 2016 19:05:34
Possibly not Swish, but they look a sight better than they did under Martinez, and you can only beat what's in front of you.
Should be cracking derby games this season.

18 Sep 2016 14:21:58

Seem to remember some suggestions we were interested in moussa dembele or was that just paper talk, anyone know? Cheers.

Believable0 Unbelievable13

18 Sep 2016 12:55:06
Was it not the young lad at Fulham we had a look at, one of the other dembeles.

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

18 Sep 2016 13:22:56
Which one?

18 Sep 2016 14:56:42
We've been linked with both moussa dembeles and ousmane dembele in recent months.

18 Sep 2016 10:57:30
hi Ed 001
saw your comment about Gerrard and youth players not making it, if he did not like them and just wondered if this was any youth player in particular or just in general, and also if this stopped when Rafa took over which is maybe why Gerrard and him didn't always see eye to eye.

Believable1 Unbelievable11

{Ed001's Note - I should have phrased that better, it wasn't always personal dislike, sometimes it would be because he decided he didn't rate them, for whatever reason. Gerrard and Rafa didn't always see eye to eye because Rafa would look to make Gerrard improve and point out the flaws in his game, rather than praise him. Rafa also wanted him to work harder defensively and would have preferred him to continue playing on the right, which Gerrard refused to do.}

18 Sep 2016 15:13:39
You got any examples Ed?

{Ed001's Note - of what?}

18 Sep 2016 16:37:52
Of players Gerrard didn't rate and was given the heave ho?

{Ed001's Note - I can't give out names mate, it is best not to in case it causes issues. Anyway, the issue was not with Gerrard or those he did not rate, the issue was with the club allowing Gerrard too much power. The important thing is that the club do not allow a player that much power again, as it always leads to problems. That is the lesson to be learnt, not individuals who have suffered or gained.}

18 Sep 2016 09:38:56
Ed001 not Liverpool related, but knowing you don't rate Fabregas, it got me thinking about who is the most over rated player in the premier league. I have never seen what Oscar adds to Chelsea, but for some reason managers keep picking him. Thoughts all?

Believable2 Unbelievable9

{Ed001's Note - there are so many just at Chelsea, let alone the rest of the league. Moses, what does he offer? Pedro, never a footballer. Cahill, not good enough. Choosing the most overrated is difficult because different people rate different players.}

18 Sep 2016 10:28:07
De Gea for me. I think he is a very good goalkeeper. Arguably the best in the Premier League (although I have high hopes for Karius and personally much prefer Begovic, Cech and Lloris) .

But he is always referred to as world class and occassionally even branded the best in the world which is frankly ridiculous. Buffon, Neuer, Oblak etc are the only keepers right now who deserve to be in that discussion.

Best shot stopper in the world? Yeah I can entertain that argument. I'd say he is the best at blocking shots with his feet as well. But i still think his kicking is erratic and he is still dodgy on crosses. Not only that but he does not organise his defence at all.

As I say, I do not think he is over rated because he is bad. I think he is over rated because he is not world class; yet.

I'm going to put Courtois here as well. Often considered world class, but his problems are the complete opposite to De Gea. Terrible shot stopper, but very good at claiming crosses and the best distributor in the league (only because he can throw it so far and accurately) . He is also a fairly poor organiser though.

I think keepers just need to look good in highlights nowadays to be considered top class. The fact Mignolet has made it to the top kind of sums that up!

18 Sep 2016 10:39:04
Seems like Conte is a bit of a one trick pony. He will make Chelsea defensively sound but whether his system is going to work to get his team to come back from being a goal or two down to winning a match is yet to be seen.

18 Sep 2016 11:04:23
MK, I'm sorry mate that's a terrible shout, he's a fantastic keeper who if he played for us would make us really serious title contenders, he'd save us between 15 and 20 points a season! He's definitely world class.

Mine (and I've said it countless times before) is ibrahimovic or to a lesser extent harry Kane, that bellend Jason cundy last season was saying he could well end up in the Messi Ronaldo suarez class, hahaha laugh I nearly bought my own šŸ».

18 Sep 2016 11:11:43
James McCarthy, imo.

Does literally nothing on a football pitch. He's decent technically and he's a big enough lad, but he has absolutely no bottle to put his body on the line, demand the ball or try to do anything remotely difficult with it when he does have it. As a result he doesn't tackle, doesn't pass the ball forward, doesn't get on it enough to dictate tempo, doesn't block off space or runs, doesn't intercept, doesn't get assists and doesn't score goals. Only for the fact that Martinez loved him, he'd have dropped out of the Premier League at least 2 years ago.

Koeman might sort his head out and get him to play, but I think it's more likely he'll just sell him.

{Ed001's Note - Wanyama is another one. Big lump but can't pass and has no positional sense at all.}

18 Sep 2016 11:58:16
Hate to sound like a typical English/ lfc fan but Rooney has to be up there for me. Was once a brilliant player but has fallen so far in recent years and both English and Man U managers keep trying to shoe horn him into a team.

Bit like Gerrard in his final years, but he lacks the discipline and positional sense to play midfield and he lose of pace means he can't play up front effectively anymore. Can still play Hollywood balls but doesn't have the technique to put players through or create space in tight areas (like an iniesta) plus can't shoot from distance anymore so don't see how he can be a number 10 either.

Both England and United have far better players suited to playing number 10 and thing both would be miles better dropping him full stop tbh.

18 Sep 2016 12:10:13
A year ago I'd have agreed with you Roland, but a handful of media outlets and commentators have caught on to the fact that he's not very good these days, so I'd say the tide is slowly turning in terms of Rooney still being highly rated. Although most of them go on about him needing to recapture his form rather than his lack of fitness and tendency to gain weight every summer, which he now struggles to lose, permanently ruining him.

Stephen Hunt has suggested in the papers this weekend that Mourinho's only still playing Rooney so that someone will still see the occasional bit of quality he can come up with and be fooled into buying him.

Wanyama's a good shout too.

18 Sep 2016 12:34:40
I'd also add Ross Barkley to that list. Reminds me a bit of Rooney. He does have a lot of natural talent but doesn't know how to use it properly. Constantly makes the wrong decisions by trying to make something happen meaning he loses the ball constantly! Though Komen could coach him and make him into a real class player.

18 Sep 2016 12:58:47
Chris smalling, there were people putting him amongst the best CBs in the league last year, he's terrible.

18 Sep 2016 13:02:17
Definitely Willian for me. Fantastic from a dead ball but offers nothing from play, all the pace in the world, yet I don't think I've ever seen him take on a man. He'll do a couple of stepovers and pass it back into midfield when there's the opportunity to beat a man. Can't believe anyone rates hin highly.

18 Sep 2016 13:27:13
Just my opinion Waro. I didn't say he was a bad keeper. I just don't see him as world class. For me, world class is being in the top 10 players in your position across world football. I'd put Neuer, Buffon, Oblak, Leno, Loris, Begovic, Cech, Bravo, Trapp and Sirigu above him right now. That's 10 just off the top of my head.

I'm not under sone illusion that he is a bad keeper. Definitely top 5 in the Premier league. But world class and In some peoples opinions already the world's best? No sorry. Not for me!

The definition of over rated is people thinking you are better than you are, not being a bad player. De Gea is almost universally over rated because he looks great on match of the day and the media have hyped him up to be far better than he really is. For me he is the bracket below world class, and not even worth discussing when it comes to the best keeper in the world debate.

18 Sep 2016 13:45:24
Jack Wilshere has to be one of the most overrated players in football, yet alone the Premier League, only manages to stay fit for a couple of games a season and when he isn't injured he's bang average.

18 Sep 2016 14:57:43
Wasn't having a pop at you MK, just think its a dodgy shout, he's absolutely top rank and is definitely the best keeper in the premier and in the top 3 in Europe. Of course your entitled to your opinion.

18 Sep 2016 15:32:22
You would say Begovic is a better goalkeeper than De Gea? Seriously?
The last three managers at Chelsea have all said Courtois is better than Begovic and the argument that Courtois is better than De Gea is not a strong one at all. De Gea is only challenged by Keylor Navas and Manuel Neuer when it comes to being the best goalkeeper in the world. Without De Gea, United would have finished at least two places further down the table in both of the last two seasons, in fact I thought DDG should have won player of the year when Hazard did. Shockingly bad United side he took into the top four.

In reply to the main post, Cavani is not in the PL but I've always seen as massively overrated. Wilshere, Favregas and Rooney all good shouts, too. Kyle Walker is for some bizarre reason rated by many pundits, Benteke we know is not actually a very good player. Zlatan doesn't do enough to be considered as highly as he is, although is obviously hugely talented. Hazard, likewise, I think is a great player, but drilled up as better than he actually is. Hazard has moments of magic, but doesn't control a game like KDB does.

18 Sep 2016 18:12:17
@MK Surely you can't think Sirigui is a better keeper than De Gea? And Begovic too?

I'm not his biggest fan but he's far better than those two. I'd say they're both past their best.

18 Sep 2016 19:15:55
Rooney for me - good when younger but he's now well past it. Nowhere near as dangerous a striker as the likes of Aguero, Sturridge, Kane, Ibrahimavic, nor as creative as Firmino, De Bruyne, Hazard, Sanchez, Ozil, nor as effective in midfield as a whole string of others who can also pass, tackle and have better engines.

No idea why he's thought to be I undroppable apart from his length of service - thought Mou would be more ruthless than he has been. Surely with Pogba, Ibra etc. now they don't need him in the squad just to add character to the dressing room?

18 Sep 2016 21:20:27
Alberto Moreno, some one told me he was a defender lol!

18 Sep 2016 22:26:46
I would say Wilshere I mean I've heard the phrase your always better when you don't play but he takes it too another level. but this got me thinking of overrated managers and looking at our own doorstep and I was born in 1992 so never got a chance to see him manage the club the first time, but dalglish is always bigged up by our fans but all he could do was finish 7th after spending a load and with suarez which you all say is the sole reason why rodgers finished second so I don't know what Kenny was, doing to finish seventh with suarez.

and of course his league title at Blackburn was only won because he had all the money I mean by what many claim even hodgson could win a league title with suarez in his team so I don't know what your all insinuating about the king.

18 Sep 2016 09:24:25
It's only Sunday and people here are fearing the worse against hull

This is the season to put the smaller teams to bed and break this hoodoo.

Believable10 Unbelievable0

18 Sep 2016 10:17:28
Looking at our performances last season in the EPL excluding wins under Klopp starting from his first match

Tottenham Hotspur - away D0-0
Southampton - home D1-1
Crystal Palace - home L1-2
Newcastle United - away L0-2
West Bromwich Albion - home D2-2
Watford - away L0-3
West Ham United - away L0-2
Manchester United - home L0-1
Leicester City - away L0-2
Sunderland - home D2-2
Southampton - away L2-3
Tottenham Hotspur - home D1-1
Newcastle United - home D2-2
Swansea City - away L1-3
Chelsea - home D1-1
West Bromwich Albion - away D1-1

Looking at the above, I do not see it as putting smaller teams to bed. Our aim should be to significantly improve our home form this season. Far too many points dropped at home last season. Make Anfield a fortress and keep the points ticking away from home and a place in the top four will be ours.

18 Sep 2016 12:24:16
Didnt realise home form was that bad Max, spot on.

19 Sep 2016 09:31:45
when you actually realise how many games we were leading from that list, and lost them or drew them. i think that was part to our fitness level. southampton game where we played best 45 minutes of football in long time, leading 2 0 at half time to lose it later, or sunderland game. hope those things don't happen again.

17 Sep 2016 22:04:11
Ed you mentioned Gerrard sometimes made it difficult for youth players? And also Owen used to. What would they do to them and also why? Why would they want to make potential future team mates feel uncomfortable? Jelousy? Fear?

Believable0 Unbelievable9

{Ed001's Note - Owen just wanted to take their money off them. I don't think he was even bright enough to realise he was a bully to be honest. I think he thought making them gamble away all their money in high-stakes card games was just a bit of fun. He only ever cared about M. Owen that lad.

Gerrard was hard on everyone, he expected everyone to do things like go out partying when he decided etc, without thinking about whether someone else just might not want to. Again I don't think he saw it as being a bad influence and a bully, along with Carragher, the pair of them thought they were bringing the team together as a unit. It wasn't like that though, all they were doing was establishing dominance over the rest.

I am sure they thought it was old school, everyone out together etc, but, even in the old days that never happened. There were always some players that would rather go out for a meal with their family than go out on the lash. For instance at Man Utd they had Bobby Charlton and George Best at one time. Best would be out hellraising, while Charlton's idea of a night out was a meal with his wife and a couple of the other players. A good team unit not just copes with these different ideas of how to live, it lets them be and understands the differences. Sadly that was not how the 'Scouse Mafia' saw it, though I don't think it was all down to them. A lot of the problem was down to the modern weakness of character due to living in a PC-world, where kids are protected as they grow up from a lot of the kinds of jokes and abuse they would take from other kids in the past. So when they got that stick in the club, as was always usual in the past, it was a shock to the system.

The main issue with Gerrard was his power within the club, if he didn't like a youth player, they would have no chance of making it. If he didn't like playing alongside them, they had no chance. Managers pandered to him.}

18 Sep 2016 10:09:03
Is it really true that Sahin wasn't played because Gerrard thought he was too handsome then? šŸ˜³.

{Ed001's Note - no.}

18 Sep 2016 11:56:27
I heard Gerrard was glad he didn't play with Peter Beardsley because he was to much of a good looker and a ladies man!
