Seems the "campaign" for Gerrard out (off the starting line up) is gathering pace with a few sheep latching on, hold your horses boys and girls there is plenty left in the tank. If anyone includes Henderson in any position on the pitch over Gerrard they are asking to finish outside top four and maybe inside top eight. I am not slagging Henderson but even though he's improved (truthfully he couldn't get any worse than last season could he) he's just not good enough if we have lofty ambitions. It seems everyone is getting carried away with hendersons contribution in games, apart from working like a Trojan what else does he do merit to the aclaim? Score? not a lot, create? not a lot, he may well go on to be a decent player as he matures but he doesn't pull any trees up for me.
Henderson is a good player. He's the type of player you need in CM to keep harassing the opponents and giving that extra bit of energy on the break.
When we counter, he's usually starting the attack via a tackle or interception, making a run and opening up space for more potent strikers of the ball, or giving a bit of extra cover while someone else breaks forward.
I'd say he's just like Milner, except he's technically better and has a little bit more about his game. Henderson is still learning and developing at 23 years of age, who knows, maybe he'll add a passing range to his game, or goals, he's versatile so he has no problem learning a new trade.
Do you know what hsf I hope he does come good as his attitude is great, but I think you sort of confirm my thoughts when you say he may go on to add a passing range to his game and add goals, he is a centre mid after all and not really what we think of as a soley defensive mid (Lucas), but a box to box centre mid so when he gets to their box you want him to be productive. Anyway that's enough from me about Henderson as I really don't mean to slag him, i'm just not convinced.
Apart from the fact that I don't think you are right but I think it was the season before last when Henderson struggled and not last season.
I do rate Hendo, but he does lack something, and will never be as good as Stevie G or the likes of jack wilshire
Irish rover, you think Henderson Never struggled last year? He did! And the year before, he was offered as part of deal with Dempsey valuing him at about £5 million max 2 years or so after costing us £16 million plus! Any further thoughts after today's (newcastle) game? My last word on this as it's boring me to f**k, Henderson has to play to his MAX to justify a place in the team, he doesn't play at his max anywhere near enough! {Ed001's Note - he cost less than £16m for one. For two, he was offered ON LOAN as part of a deal for Dempsey at the start of last season, so was in no way valued as anywhere around the £5m mark at all.}
Red forever, not many will ever be as good as gerrard, right now I'd settle for someone as good as mascherano, alonso, hamman, whelan, houghton, wark etc etc
I replied earlier but don't think it sent so apologies if duplicated, this was the jist of it anyway
Ed001, I've read fees of between £16-£20 million for henderson so I aired on the side of caution, you seem to know the fee, what was it? And I never heard any loan mentioned with the Dempsey deal but you seem yo know so I will concede on that but being offered in a deal to leave is hardly a ringing endorsement is it! Also with you seemingly in the know I am sure you heard the story of how Steve Bruce and Niall Quinn being delirious with the fee they received. {Ed001's Note - £15.6m and it was a loan deal only, which he rejected as he wanted to stay and fight for his place. You seem to forget he is only young. The story of Quinn and Bruce is nonsense.}
Ed001, so I said £16 million and you pulled it as it was according to you, which I accept £15.6 million, sorry I was 2.5% out, bit petty that I am sure you will admit ( maybe you won't ) and I know he's young(ish) but he's playing NOW, if he's not good enough which he isn't it doesn't matter how old he is. Again you seem to be in the know about Bruce and Quinn about the fee, ok, let's say the story is bull, do you think a. They were WELL ****in happy with the £15.6 million and b. do you think he is worth £15.6 million? And do us all a favour don't tell me my punctuation was wrong or something else to hide the ****in truth. {Ed001's Note - it was 15.6m if all conditions are met - in other words a lot less paid so far, that is the figure with all potential add ons. I am just not sure what the amount is we have paid so far, but it is not £16m. By the way, is there a reason you feel the need to swear over nothing? As well as make false accusations when you were wrong. Bruce was not happy, which is why previous enquiries from Man Utd had been rejected before we bid. I don't know why idiots want to lie and stir crap, like you are doing too, but they did NOT want to sell him and Quinn was not celebrating him leaving. That is one of the stupidest stories ever told by bitter mackems trying to make themselves feel better over losing their best prospect.}
Maybe no need to swear but maybe it was because you we're petty about the fee. Apologies if it makes you feel any better, you say I am stirring crap! No I'm not stirring, just saying what I heard and as you prove many people heard and isn't what this RUMOURS page is all about? Actually I suppose we all have to take your word for it bruce wasn't happy but I think he would have been well pleased with he fee, if he wasn't happy with potentially £15.6 million what fee do you think he would have cracked a smile with? And what was it you said one of the craziest stories you've herd the mackems making it up to make themselves feel better, If you think that's a crazy story I think you've led a sheltered life. By the way, you never answered, do you think he's worth the fee? {Ed001's Note - why would Bruce be happy with the deal? Did he get to improve the squad with the money? Or did they get worse for losing him? As for do I think he is worth it, I don't care how much he cost, that is irrelevant. I really don't understand what difference it makes. How do you decide what is a fair fee? I mean we could base it on Gerrard, in which case, as he was free, no player is going to be worth paying for. Or perhaps we base it on the price Mascherano cost? That was fairly similar, but Henderson has been better for us than Mash, as Hendo hasn't gone on strike when we needed him to force his way out. He has shown an excellent attitude and work ethic, with a willingness to improve his game and clear signs that he has done so. Yet still we have boo boys like you on his back! We need a player like Henderson, willing to put himself out for the team, just as much as we need top class players like Coutinho. As for sheltered life, don't talk soft, that is just you being an arse now because your nose is out of joint.}
