Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

18 May 2016 23:53:32
So eds,

Klopp has had a free run this season. I feel the summer and next season is when he will be really judged.

Here is my thoughts and I would love your opinion on this.

Firstly needs to reduce the squad and get rid of players like ballotelli, llori, skrtel etc.

Also benteke needs to go as we can't have a 32 million striker being 4th possibly 5th choice.

Secondly needs to get the right players in.
I feel we need gk and lb immediately.
Also a cm who can dictate play, tempo and provide defensive cover.

A striker who can replace benteke. Maybe Someone like milik of Ajax.

Thirdly an effective preseason.

It's impertive we are smarter and more successful with our transfers in and out.

What's your feelings eds on areas we need to strengthen and why?

Game wasn't about judgement of Klopp. Players just didn't show up.

19 May 2016 00:13:23
I had a read through and I see some posts in relation to transfer targets etc. I guess what I am getting at is when we have had world class players we were successful. I. e Torres on form, Gerard, agger, alonso Suarez etc.

These players were bought from clubs like Ajax, brondby, real socidead etc.

So is there any gems we should be looking at to help us be successful.

18 May 2016 23:30:07
well done to all the lads and the manager. This season threatened to be another humdrum season of 'what could have beens" but in the end was a thrilling European campaign with a lot of our youth/ reserves getting a bit of first team action.
2 finals - 1 domestic and 1 European bodes well for Kloppo.
You only learn from your defeats and he will have learned a lot from tonight.
Next season we will be stronger, next season we will be more competitive.
We are on the right path, keep the faith. YNWA.

I hope so.

18 May 2016 23:46:57
Some great nights and despite the upset it only showed what we already know. We need a new LB desperately and some steel in midfield as as good at box to box Can is when it comes to defending, especially when we're under the kosh a bit he disappears.

18 May 2016 23:47:22
On to next season.

19 May 2016 00:02:09
Agree. I know people often look starry eyed toward next season, but our best league performance for some time was 2013-2014 when we had pretty much one game per week. Players stayed fit and had plenty of time on the training pitch. It's a shame the Euro's will interrupt preseason. I know we often talk about new signings being attracted to the CL, but I believe they're equally attracted to a team regularly competing at the top end of the table.
On another note, I can't believe Toure came off instead of Moreno.

19 May 2016 00:32:20
Poolie let's remember can is 22, the whole team were lost for the second half not just him. Can return from injury the 2nd leg of the europa semi everyone including myself thought he was class. To say we need someone instead, to me, is silly. Normally he's very solid bar tonight as the whole team were poor in the second half. To pick him out as being lost, out of the 11 on the pitch is abit harsh imo.

19 May 2016 02:53:51
I think our subs weren't brilliant to be honest, I felt we should have moved Milner to LB and brought on Hendo to control midfield alongside Can. We should have put on Origi or Benteke for Llalana (who had a good game but tired) and played Can/ Hendo/ Coutinho midfield with Sturridge/ Origi and Firmino behind them and Clyne/ Milner making the width. Easy in hindsight to criticise but Can needed help, we needed someone more effective at LB and we needed someone upfront to hold up the ball.

19 May 2016 04:50:54
JR1, can has been very inconsistent. So when he has very good games the team seems to be playing well. He is not consistently good enough to be our best midfielder, the fact that fans actually think he is our best midfielder should show you how average our team is. Good player with great potential but he makes many errors. Tactically he doesn't understand being a midfielder, this is actually where Henderson is ahead of him. Positioning is always a problem especially without the ball. He is only 22, and that is exactly the point, we need someone that can lead and that has more experience and more quality there, either to partner him or partner Henderson. Cans stats also work against him, Henderson has been injured the majority of the season yet still has been assists/ goals than him, it's even worse the season before. Yet all of this somehow equates to can being miles better than Henderson which is not true. Henderson when fully fit and on form is miles ahead of can. So a new midfielder is certainly required, just not zielinski, as he is not an improvement on either can or hendo.

{Ed001's Note - for once I agree with you, Hendo is our best midfielder by a long way. We really missed him last night.}

19 May 2016 07:40:08
Firstly, Ron, thanks mate! Needed that!

Secondly, completely agree on Can/ Hendo. We need a wise old head there, and unfortunately Lucas didn't play. In Hendo's absense, I think he was the missing link, albeit the legs going meant it would've been a risk in a 2 man midfield. If it wasn't for the fact that Milner has the armband, I would've played Can/ Lucas, with Hendo to come on later on.

But hindsight's 20-20.

18 May 2016 23:13:01
Well that was sad. But not the end of the world. We did well to progress to the final with a team still adjusting to a new coach. I think in Klopp we have a really special manger, someone to inspire players and fans together. Hold heads high and support the team ready for next season. Good luck to the players and to all fans out there.

The best thing to come out of this season was the report on Hillsborough. Liverpool football club has great fans, a great history, a team which can compete and now an inspiring manager who we have dreamt of for a long time. Bright things are coming the clubs way.

Enjoy the summer one and all. Thank you eds.

Long live the (lion) king.

Unai Emery. The difference.

19 May 2016 01:49:45
The difference is english core players sark technically.

18 May 2016 22:56:27
Evening eds dissappointing end to season tonight for me we looked to be lacking a little mentally when the game turned second half anyway for me no point in dwelling on it, I am thinking about next season. Ed02 based on your info that we have been scouting left backs who in your opinion would be best choice to sign as someone who could be attainable would be ready for the first team and suit our style of play.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Left Back:

Previously of interest to Manchester United and Spurs, Roma and Manchester City see Schalke's Sead Kolasinac as a target who both Chelsea and Liverpool have also had watched.

Lorient left-back Raphael Guerreiro has been of previous interest to Newcastle, Milan, Arsenal, PSG, Manchester City and Sampdoria. Marseille, Liverpool, Sunderland and Swansea have had watched the player this season. I understand from an Arsenal scout that they are looking again. Liverpool interest would certainly come to the fore if Moreno were to leave.

Fenerbahce and Caner Erkin again struggled in their discussions over extending his contract and the club accept this summer he will move on. Liverpool have certainly considered him in the past when Rodgers had scouts look at him. Chelsea, Stoke, Hannover 96, Everton, Arsenal and Roma have also had him watched in the past and a deal with Inter was previously scuppered by very high signing on fee and wage demands. However, Inter are confident that a deal can be done for this summer and that they will have the funds in place.

Leicester’s Ben Chilwell has been attracting the attention of a number of sides with Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool and Norwich all attending Huddersfield Town games to watch the loanee after he impressed in the academy last season. Spurs and Newcastle have also been keeping a watchful eye. However, to cover for an injury, Claudio Ranieri recalled Chilwell but matters are seemingly being taken out of his hands as Arsenal has made a formal approach to Leicester about a transfer. Leicester fought off that approach but will have to do the same in the summer.

Jonas Hector would be a very odd choice if Liverpool were interested, and I am not aware that they have declared any interest. He is very much a defender who doesn't get forward too often and that does not seem to fit the kopflose huhn style of play Klipperty prefers.

Out of contract in the summer, Besiktas' Ismail Koybasi is attracting the attention of Valencia and has been watched by Empoli, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Kiev. There is an unconfirmed suggestion by the player's representative that Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in him but I find that a little far-fetched.

Approaches to the MLS have been made by Genk, Reading and Shimizu S-Pulse in respect of LA Galaxy's Gyasi Zardes. I suspect the interest of Liverpool left with Rodgers. The Reading interest likely left with Stevie Clarke.

18 May 2016 23:45:00
Attracting players will be a problem after tonight.

Sadly that is the harsh reality of being 8th in the league and nothing else.
Losing two finals will count for nothing.

I like Klopp but his record at winning in finals is not good.

I have to say he may be with us for only two more seasons at best.

There are a number of possible scenarios.
It is all about money these days, unfortunately.

19 May 2016 00:18:59
His record is not flash no, can't argue that. But if our full backs and goalie could do what is required of them we would have won, it's that simple. I can't blame Klopp for the on pitch performances we saw, that lands squarely at the players feet.

19 May 2016 00:52:44
Not really klopps fault tonight. Maybe he could have brought on a midfielder at 2-1 to regain control, then origi once we got a foothold, but it's a brave call to take off an attacking player for a cm when losing. The team were rocked and everything he said at half time when out the window. In the end we had to go all out attack and he did, but it was too late.

18 May 2016 22:37:52
Hi eds,

Big supporter of your work. Thanks for all the updates.

I am the first time poster. Just a short message for my fellow disappontend and sorrowful reds, disappointment is immense but we live to fight for another day. We will and for surely to come back stronger the next season. Sky is the limit and we are Liverpool. We will never walk alone.

P. S after loss my wife thinks I am a psyco and need a specialist. I just have never been able to make her understand what it's like to support Liverpool. Hoping for more exciting times in the next year, 22 years of support is just not diminishing. Proud to be a Liverpool supporter and hopefully I will have many opportunities to be happy for my truely first love I. e LFC. Think red, live being a red n support red.

Thanks and cheers
Northindian red from India.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Thanks for the post Northindian and welcome. A difficult day as you know. A few changes in the summer and perhaps the coach taking a look at himself and I am sure there will be an improvement next season.}

18 May 2016 23:06:25
Ed, in what aspects do you think Klopp needs to take a look at himself?
Personally I think you could see we were letting them through the midfield too easily and too often, you could see the goals coming and he waited too long to change things- and he should have subbed coutinho first.
But like all of them, he'll learn from tonight.

{Ed002's Note - The running after people until they give the ball away or are fouled system (the well named kopflose huhn style of play) that exhausts players in the first half was found out some years ago - hence he has won nothing for some years. He needs to adapt and have better options - he needs to pick players on criteria other than running really quickly - which has been pointed out on many occasions. A good coach and generally a likeable guy - but somewhat tactically naive.}

18 May 2016 23:07:54
So true ed 002. Jk is the best thing that has ever happened to LFC in a long time. I just hope he realises that left back position is a no joke. He finds a solution to fill in the gap and not leave anything for a chance. Alberto moreno is a joke of a left back and i have no more words to describe him. I trust in klopp n hope he breaks his jjnx of finales losses n I ong with the flow reds don't have to endure the frustrating losses in the finlas anymore beyond tonight's loss. Just a frustrated lfc supportet. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I understand man. Enjoy the summer and the rumours. They need to get over tonight, and a couple of matters being dealt with tomorrow, get away for what break they can and then most of the players have a busy summer. As long as Klipperty never mentions the words "I never had a proper pre-season with my players" as an excuse, a good opportunity next year to get in what will be a tough mix.}

18 May 2016 23:22:57
Thanks for the eds2 version of a Klopp hug, on wards and upwards hey, without the lows there'd be no highs.

18 May 2016 23:24:21
Apologies Ed002, I posted a reply earlier asking where you think Klopp needs to look at himself, but I typed Ed001 by mistake.
I'm honestly interested in your viewpoint.

{Ed002's Note - See above.}

18 May 2016 23:26:39
Sorry for my pathetic English. Just been too high to drown out another sorrow within 3 months. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Your Englsi is better than anyone from Liverpool NI. Please don't apologise for such things.}

19 May 2016 00:05:51
anonymush: spot on mate (someone who actually sees the game) . I love klopp but Unai Emery is tactically superior to him. can and milner were struggling from the start and giving away fouls every other minute - how klopp didn't see this is beyond me. Hopefully, (like Ed002 said) he learns from this and we improve next season.

19 May 2016 00:10:50
Aaaarrr eh, that's not fair :)

19 May 2016 00:40:08
Klopp has won nothing for some years because Bayern built arguably the best club team in the world, particularly by pinching some of Klopp's best players.

Tonight had nothing to do with players being 'tired'. They just bottled it. It's as simple as that.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, it doesn't help when the other team are allowed to play with rush keepers, it was a big advantage for them.}

19 May 2016 05:12:58
What do you mean ed?

{Ed001's Note - rush keepers is when any player near the ball is allowed to act as keeper. They were clearly playing under those rules judging by the number of clear handballs they got away with that the ref plainly saw and decided were ok.}

19 May 2016 05:53:06
Ah right. Yeah I'm always reluctant to blame referee decisions, but my god, you'd think at least one of those 2 penalties would have been a goal, 2-0 at half time, lots of momentum into the second half. I know we've blown 2-0 leads countless times, but at least having the residual 1 goal buffer in a final would have enabled more composure to settle down and continue on our good work from the first half. Also, do you think that non-offside call was correct?

{Ed001's Note - I want to check, as I am so bunged up and was not really 100% sure, did the initial pass come from one of our players or one of theirs? The replays focused on whether Moreno deflected it, which is irrelevant. It is only relevant whether he was offside or not when the initial ball was played. If he was offside then, the goal should not have stood, regardless of deflections, they are irrelevant, because the moment a defender went for the ball they were playing him offside and making him active, as they are attempting to clear it because he is behind them.}

19 May 2016 06:02:47
Haha I like that. Rush keepers. So true.

19 May 2016 06:08:39
Ed, I don't think the goal should have stood. He was offside when the ball was initially played, but was in an onside position after it flicked Moreno. In what universe is that onside?

{Ed001's Note - in a universe where the ref was changing his decisions to suit Sevilla (and UEFA). Having said that, it was not why we lost, the players were not good enough and that was the real issue. Can you imagine Souness or Hansen or Dalglish folding like that when decisions went against them? They would have grown another foot and played harder and run faster and improved.}

19 May 2016 07:47:58
To be fair to the ref in that decision for their 3rd goal, he was right.

Its not that it flicked Moreno, its that the 'pass' to their player was from Coutinho. He kicked it, it flicked Moreno and ended up with their player to cross for Coke to score.

Ref was to blame for not giving at least one penalty, and we were unlucky with our offside goal (if Studge had not gone for it, if their LB had been a fraction further bact etc), but he was right to let their 3rd stand.

As for Ed001's last comment, I can't remember watching any of Souness, Hansen or Dalglish playing with 3 feet, but it certainly would've given them quite the advantage in the dying minutes of a game! Is that why they were nicknamed clever dicks? ;)

{Ed001's Note - that is because they never got into this kind of position or you would have seen the third foot....}

18 May 2016 22:35:02
Well that was underwhelming. Any hector rumours flying around we definitely need a left back.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

18 May 2016 22:50:35
If there wasn't before, there will be now after that performance by Moreno.

18 May 2016 22:59:00
No Hector rumours but that was hectic if that makes any diffence.

18 May 2016 23:15:56
Can was terrible tonight shocking performance by him, he was nearly as bad as Moreno.

18 May 2016 23:18:18
It wasn't just Moreno that was the problem, most of the team bar Toure went to sleep in the second half. The aggressive pressing that caused Sevilla so many problems in the first half was sadly lacking in the second. The team lost control of the game and paid the price.

19 May 2016 00:52:33
ACB, that is my biggest problem. What team trying to win a final gives up a goal after EIGHTEEN seconds at the restart? bThis game was a microcosm of our season. Great today, Bad tmrw. Good first half, awful second half and vice verse. Our usual suspects like Moreno have struck again. Klopp has been great but it seemed the team used up all it's energy in the first half and had nothing left in the second. He needs to look at that and adapt.

18 May 2016 18:41:50
question on managers. Both Brendan Rodgers and Martinez had few coaching stint before breaking into big time in bpl. so they actually learn thru several job experience but still wasnt as successful. Then there are managers who came from nowhere like Simone, pep and straightaway begin something special in a club.

Do you think its a matter of emotional intelligence or that these managers are players who have played at highest level? Klopp did not play at highest level but he does have that personality to influence though.

Believable2 Unbelievable13

18 May 2016 19:21:49
Pep was a coach and youth team manager at Barca.

{Ed001's Note - Simeone had other jobs before Atleti. Pep was manager of the B team, which play in the second/third tier in Spain, so he had experience.}

18 May 2016 19:30:25
Thanks Eds for enlightening. Enjoy the match and Cheers.

18 May 2016 21:44:55
What happened in the 2nd half. Klopp was completely out coached. Mercy!

19 May 2016 00:53:52
Simeone was already successful at Racing Club in Argentina. How else do you think, he got the Atleti job?

18 May 2016 22:17:43
Utter capitulation in the second half. This, rather than losing the game is why most fans get so annoyed. We were on top, dominant even for the whole first half. But the second half they never got started.

I just don't understand why? How can a team of highly paid professionals go from being completely in control to utterly hopeless like that? It wasn't just a change in sevilla's attitude.

We were second to everything in the second half, like they just gave up after their 1st goal. The effort and attitude disappeared. 45 minutes of hard work and decent play undone in 17 seconds. Forget the countless handball decisions in the first half, they deserved to win by our performance 2nd half.

Disappointed doesn't describe it. I honestly would have preferred we just got battered 5-0 than see our team of schizophrenic's show how brilliant and awful they can be in 1 game.

Eh no Lord Twit, tale of 2 halves and an ex Sevilla left back that I know we shouldn't have signed onioned out on the first goal and the team lost confidence, don't forget we lost a couple of 2 goal leads in the last few weeks, we need a spine to our team that we havnt had in a few years. Give the boys that played tonight a LITTLE round of a plause, you got to 2 finals that you never thought you'd be in under Rodgers.

18 May 2016 13:43:01
Hello guys, what do you think of the apparent discussion about having 9 subs instead of 7?

Personally I think it's about time, in Italy I believe they have 11 on the bench?

Believable5 Unbelievable8

18 May 2016 14:35:05
If anything 7 is too many. Plenty of leagues only have 5. That is enough for a keeper, defender, midfielder, striker and utility player.

Subs are there to change tactics or replace injured/ tired players. Not to give you a like for like replacement for absolutely any player who needs/ wants to come off. The richer teams who can afford to have two teams if 11 seniors will be the only ones to benefit from an increased bench. Some poorer clubs in the lower leagues can't even fill the current bench allowance. In fact in January time, we only had 6 on the bench due to such a severe amount of injuries.

It's just a pointless change. You can only use 3 subs, so why do you need 9 to 11 players on standby?

There are more pressing matters in football to be addressed such as retrospective punishments, crack down on diving, getting decisions correct, squad limits/ quotas, financial fair play enforcement etc.

18 May 2016 14:36:09
How many in a match day squad? Is it still 18?

Don't see why like the international tournaments the whole the remainder of the 25 man squad be available as subs. Obviously not those that are injured.

18 May 2016 14:39:10
I would only increase it if the extra 2 subs were, for example, home grown and under 21.

18 May 2016 17:11:18
Agree with Tristan there. Have as many on the subs bench as you can as long as they are youngsters.
That way when teams are winning comfortably they can give some game time to the kids.
Saves putting only squad players on the bench and then only using them because they are there and the kids aren't.

18 May 2016 18:12:37
Yeah tristans idea would be the way to go if there was a increase and mikey improved on it I was thinking the exact same great way for young players to get some experience.

18 May 2016 13:27:08
Hey eds and reds hope you are all well, just been having a conversation with a friend and was wondering if Liverpool did win the Europa league does anyone know how much or even a rough estimate on how much they would make from it was just curious!
Many thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Not a greatr deal. I haven't got time to work out the exact amount.}

18 May 2016 14:41:13
About 16m.

18 May 2016 15:12:10
I looked into this a while ago, the prize money is fixed, we'll get a little over £11m if we win Plus £2.4-3.2m more for appearing in the Supercup.

What's hard to figure out is what share of the television rights we'll receive. UEFA have a complicated system where the money you receive is based on the market you're from and how well you did in the competition compared to other countries from that same market. As both Utd and Spurs went out in the last 16 we can expect the lion's share of that money which could be £10m+.

Ultimately we could receive around £26m in price money and tv rights which is about the same as we received for our Champion's League adventure last year.

{Ed002's Note - The prize money varies by result.}

18 May 2016 15:46:49
Working out the money from the wins/ draws in the group and group participation money then any prize money from reaching each knockout stage and eventually winning it from the UEFA website, it looks to be just over 14.2M euros in prize money which is about £11M for this season if you win, last season it was just under 10M euros. I don't know if there are any revenue streams on top of that.

18 May 2016 15:48:10
I'd taken that into account Ed2, if we won every group match the total prize money would be €15.31m or £11.84m at today's exchange rate. As we only won two games our prize money is less meaning if we win we'll receive €14.35m or £11.1m :)

{Ed002's Note - So it is variable, not fixed.}

18 May 2016 17:12:47
Plus if we win it then extra money from champions league next season rather than nothing.

18 May 2016 14:39:21
Is it on BT Euro?

{Ed002's Note - Try the TV guide where you live. Even the simplest tasks seem to be a struggle for many.}

18 May 2016 16:19:56
Yes its free view on bt europe on sky or tv3 in ireland.

18 May 2016 15:38:15
Ed002 i was just thinkimg the same. maybe you should change your names to google001 and google002.

18 May 2016 16:51:21
Thanks for posting exactly my thoughts 002, some require total spoon feeding.

18 May 2016 18:17:29
Does anyone think bt did this out of the goodness of their hearts or to be slightly more cynical maybe the advertisers insisted it was shown so the viewing figures were a lot higher I think someone posted the other day how disappointing the viewing figures are on bt surely the advertisers can't be impressed with that and its a good look for bt also.

18 May 2016 17:27:26
Ed002, can you please tell me how to turn my TV on?
Also, what's a TV?

18 May 2016 12:22:32
Well Red's this is it. This is the day this great club was made for. We've got a great couch, we've got a great squad and we've got a great believe going through the squad. I really believed after the 1st leg against Villarreal that we would win at Anfield and we did. So as I got out of bed this morning and put my left shoe on first then switched the light on and off 20 times made sure that I woke everybody in the house just like I did that very same morning in 2005.
I STILL BELIEVE!

Believable6 Unbelievable1

18 May 2016 13:10:04
How did you know I have a great couch?

18 May 2016 13:34:19
You can tell someone's got a great couch from their syntax - a little know fact ;-)

18 May 2016 13:40:52
Is that not your add on DoneDeal?
Great coach😁.

18 May 2016 14:02:38
Completely lied. My couch is utter rubbish. Sorry for misleading you lads.

18 May 2016 14:45:18
It should be great though, it cost 2 grand from DFS.

18 May 2016 15:04:07
Better deals in Harry Norman Waro. Isn't that out your neck of the woods as well Redrooboy?

{Ed002's Note - I am with Waro here. I am pretty sure all of the Liverpool fans shop at DFs.}

18 May 2016 15:28:50
Redrooboy, I didn't want to be the one to point it out, but your syntax indicates that you have a really crap couch.

Sorry :)

18 May 2016 15:50:05
Don't tar everybody with the same brush Ed002😋.

18 May 2016 16:53:25
Hahaha like it Ed2.

18 May 2016 17:28:27
I'd like a lazy couch, if they exist, like the lazy boy armchairs with build it speakers and fridge etc.

18 May 2016 12:03:44

18 May 2016 11:53:44
So the boys march on Basel tonight as we seek to claim the iron throne from those Sevilla bandits. I like old Graeme Souness' optimism but I don't think we'll win "in style" as he so gruffly put it. I'm plumping for a tight affair all things considered perhaps a 1-0, I certainly think we'll win but I'll tell you boys one thing. it ain't going to be easy.

Dreaming of a team of James Milner's for tonight's game, I'll be watching down the old Ship and Mitre, I hope the-real-deal will pop in for a pint (or ten! ) but I'll be drinking with my son's best friend who supports Everton, we've developed something of a friendship in recent months ha.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

18 May 2016 13:46:48
Well Joe I won't be with you but I'll certainly will be having a pint with you. As for the result, well let's just say that we never do things the easy way. You won't be on chat tonight then?

18 May 2016 14:33:50
I certainly will be it all depends on if my date/ bezzy the-real-deal stands me up at the old Ship and Mitre, my intention is to log onto the chat with me old Liverpool lahs and buddies.

18 May 2016 11:47:17
This is a request to all the fans attending the match inside stadium. DO NOT KEEP QUIET.

18 May 2016 09:30:26
One for Ed001 if you have time today mate.

I thought I would ask this question before the game tonight, to avoid the rose or brown tinted glasses associated with the result of a European final.

I was wondering if you could do a run down of Klopp's first season albeit not full season) in charge.

How has he done in relation to results and performances?

But also how he's done in relation to player relationships, transfers, integration of youth, training, media work. etc etc.

Just an overall view on him so far.

Cheers in advance Ed.

All the best.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I will try and write it as an article for you. Hopefully get it done before the match.}

18 May 2016 11:06:20
Tbh ed, I was hoping for the same but in a podcast so maybe more fun for you an benny maybe a guest do a quick game summery and then lead into the seasons review.

{Ed001's Note - that will have to wait a bit, I have a stinking cold and can barely talk at the moment.}

18 May 2016 13:56:11
The problem with stress and moving mate 😔, hope you feelin better soon an the Reds help cheer you up tonight or lose your voice totally.

18 May 2016 17:10:27
ed001 you will have no voice left at all after tonight pal! hope everything is going well for you mate and tomorrow's posts are all full of joy and positivity.

{Ed001's Note - fingers crossed.}

Could barely sleep thinking about tonight! We'll do it I'm certain, well, i'm certainly hoping so anyway!

18 May 2016 10:16:32
Karius edged Migs on saves last season with 86 to 52 eh harry?

Come on mate, edging it would be 55 to 50. 86 to 52 is a difference of 34 which effectively works out at 1 more save per game.

All of that's irrelevant anyway. The only relevant stat for a keeper is errors leading to a goal and Migs probably has the second worst in Europe just behind some guy called Bogdan.

All the other stats can be twisted so the only real way to judge a keeper is to watch them. As I have barely seen Karius I will reserve judgement!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

18 May 2016 10:49:56
MK my only worry is our GK coach. He has done very little to improve any of our current GK so is he going to be good enough to help Karius reach his potential?! He is without doubt a young GK with bags of potential and more than capable of pushing Migs all the way for the No.1 spot.

18 May 2016 12:40:02
I know buddy. Personally I'd have a look at the Athletico Madrid goal keeper coach. I couldn't even tell you who it is, but they just bring in a new young keeper every other season and bring them on leaps and bounds. Courtois looked like the best in the world there. Then he came to Chelsea and fell to bits.

That is assuming we can't just get Valero back anyway.

18 May 2016 10:21:18
Absolutely Adam, I am with you on this.
BTW, Where is Danny Ward who was supposed to replace Migs bought back in the middle of a nice loan spell some 6 months ago. You were the first one to bring up stats on this page.

18 May 2016 14:43:56
Pablo Vercallone? I think that's the Madrid GK coach. Should be having a look at Bayern's, we seem to like their backroom staff lol. Anyway MK let's hope for a positive result tonight!

18 May 2016 09:44:40
Good morning Ed's and reds.
I'd like to ask a question or two if I may?
1. I think we are all aware of mr klopps past success in the transfer market with seemingly unheard names in the footballing world. Again we kinda seem thus far to be going down the same avenue. Now I like most (judging by the posts) hold a high regard for his judgement in the transfer market. Question is though, he doesn't have the same scouting team now though does he? Has he changed the clubs philosophy on scouting or is he the type of man who does a large amount himself?
2. We're one game away from champions league. Big IF, but IF we are successful tonight does the likes of Karius, grucic, matip please fans in terms of signing proven quality. like the majority I know little or nothing about these players, so is there an air of dissapointment that the players coming in are not higher profile?
3. Are we as fans expecting too much too soon. I personally think our current group of players need to do a bit more going forward so that we put an end to conceding daft goals, and become more prolific (not being negative, just think the level needs raising)
4.our actual current starting strongest eleven, who needs replacing?

All this aside buzzing about tonight and hoping for an awesome evening in Switzerland and Liverpool celebrating victory. Good luck lads.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - 1. No he doesn't have his own scouting team nor has he change dthe philosophy of the Liverpool scouts and nor does he do the scouting himself.
2. Liverpool fans are traditionally obsessed with two things - "marquee signings" and the club spending as much money as possible - it doesn't really matter who on.
3. All football fans expect too much too soon.
4. The fans would like to see them all replaced by expensive players - it really doesn't matter who they are.}

18 May 2016 10:08:35
Think I walked in to them answers. Peraonally I am neither, a quality player can cost nothing, its the coaching and attitude that are most important, a price tag has no relevance. However if we signed Messi I'd be doing cartwheels for the next 12 months. Last question then please if I may? does the transfer commitee still exist, and have we heard if they put their two pennies worth in to our ppending transfers.

{Ed002's Note - Yes the transfer committee still exists.}

18 May 2016 10:30:48
Just on point 4, I think it's more about upgrading than replacing. Obviously, we could do with a better Number 1 between the sticks. Also, we need a long-term CB solution and another LB to play on the odd occasion when we actually want to defend properly.
I think there are players out there that would be an upgrade on Henderson, Milner or Lallana but there's no guarantee that we can get them, so that could be a slightly longer term process.

18 May 2016 07:25:14
Today's the big day! Work is going to drag! Hopefully this time tomorrow Liverpool will be European championship once again! COME ON REDMEN!

18 May 2016 14:56:45
When a woman takes on a liverpool man she should have an understanding of how the first love will always come first!

{Ed002's Note - Try not to sound like a complete flake.}

18 May 2016 15:30:38
To be fair, the football club has never offered free earmuffs (to the best of my knowledge? ), so I may disagree with you slightly there, Swanseared!

18 May 2016 18:08:27
Lol, eds.

It's always good to squeeze in a couple of 'earmuffs' a week!

18 May 2016 07:22:16
What are the thoughts on our transfer dealings at the moment, based on the Zielinski and Karius deals almost done (press talk) plus moves for Gotze and N'iang (again press talk) . Is it too early?

Clearly players Klopp rates and wants, so I have no problems and this banter question isn't to knock these four.

My question is is it too early? If we win tonight we are in the group stages of the CL. More money, bigger draw of players as all want CL football right. So shouldn't we be waiting? Could we be looking at a Lacazette like West Ham are over N'iang, etc.

Karius sounds good, is he better then previous link Ter Stegen? Would CL football have made that move possible?

Again, this isn't to bash any player, just a general transfer policy question and whether we should be waiting.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

18 May 2016 08:27:43
True who knows who would be available if we win tonight. But then again Klopp and the team will have identified players who will execute his style best (hopefully. ) so in that sense it'd be irrelevant whether they're signed now or later. Plus the early purchases seem like squad players to me.

18 May 2016 08:53:45
From admittedly very little knowledge, I would say matip and grujic will be starters and bring more energy and a bit more quality.
Karius again will be a safer pair of hands and an improvement, but we will have to give him time to fully develop as a player.
Gotze is a gamble- great pedigree and top quality when fit and ready, but poor form in recent times, and a bit injury prone.
Zielinski looks to be a but raw still- very energetic but lacks a bit of composure and touch, but I think he is a player Klopp will develop over the coming season and ease in over time, in the hope he will become a very good player in a year or two's time.
What they seem to have in common is youth and energy, and mostly good quality on the ball. Fingers crossed!

18 May 2016 09:30:12
A highly rated Karius for around 5 mil, or a barely played, bench warmer Ter Stegan for 20 mil? I know which one I have always preffered. That's the cheap one.

18 May 2016 09:33:30
Furthermore, I think being in the CL or not, it won't make one iota of difference to who Klopp is targeting. Klopps targets will remain Klopp's targets whether we win tonight or not. I highly doubt we have ever been interested in Ter Stegan or him in us.

18 May 2016 10:10:50
I don't think Klopp would change his targets whether we're in CL or not. If we were after big name signings then obviously CL would be more attractive but that isn't the way Klopp works. I have high hopes on us getting Gotze but if your expecting lots of big names I think your going to be upset. Klopp prefers to make names rather than buy them and I don't think that will change, CL or not so timing is therefore irrelevant, in that regard I would say the earlier the better. The more players in and having a full preseason under Klopp the better in my opinion.

18 May 2016 12:00:17
Thanks for the replies. I'm not expecting big name signings and trust the players Klopp goes for, as you've all said regardless of CL football. I just wondered as there must be players we thought might be out of reach or been told by agents not to bother as we didn't look like CL contenders. For example Reus and Hummels. Always linked and always laughed away, only a couple of months ago it looked like Dortmund would knock us out and we were so inconsistent in the league although we could maybe reach 4th it never looked likely.

I'd imagine these players would be most coaches first choice and maybe especially Klopps. As it was maybe we looked at other targets and now suddenly we are one game away and IF we win, why would it be laughable Augembanyang (erm? ) Reus, or others you'd put in their category could be signings.

As I said, not knocking Zelinski or Matip etc, these guys surely fit what Klopp wants, it just made me think if we knew CL football was very much on the cards would we be looking at the type of players Utd, Arsenal, Madrid, Bayern etc are linked with?

18 May 2016 08:36:55
I would share my view on the deals so far.
Matip was done some time back as a replacement for Skrtel / Toure IMO. While it looks like Toure would be staying and we don't know what will happen with Sakho.
Grujic is certainly one for future ( There were host of clubs looking to sign the kid ) He might get some playing time but I expect the kid to go out for a loan to get the taste of the league. Was he needed? I don't know.
Zielinski is a myth I am still trying to unlock. A predominantly offensive midfielder who has scored goals in Italy certainly not a disciplinary Center midfielder.
He might be coming in for Allen in all honesty. ( Not sure how we would play him in the team )
I haven't seen much of Karius and I am pretty sure many sher wouldn't have either. Is he better than Ward ( apparently he was certain to replace Migs 6 months ago and by some means he isn't kicking a ball )

CL wouldn't attract any big players to the club as our record in the completion over past 10 years is as good as Leicester City.

We need to identify the weak spot in the team and bring in the right players. I however expect a LB to come in. It seems we will go into the new season with Can and Stewart as the holding midfielder ( I am not satisfied )

That is my opinion on the transfer so far mate.
Cheers.

I broke me finger about 8 weeks ago in a scooter accident and, as per doctors orders, have been off the booze. Every EL game I've watched since then has been without alcohol - right now the recovery is going well and I can definitely have a few beer again. However, I'm a superstitous sort and wondered if I should have a few beers tonight or swerve it? In my position what would you do?

p. s. Drinking after the game, should worst come to worst, is also not an option as it will be after 5am an I have work a few hours later.

Hi fellow fans
I am getting excited. Right now here in Eastern Australia it is 240pm. I am watching a local club match tonight with my two young boys - then off to pick up my nephew and back home to settle in for an early night (if we can sleep) .
The final kicks off at 445am my time so it will be an early rise, replica kits on, coffee and hot chocolates made and settle in hopefully for a good victory.
Not the wildest plans, but the only other way I would have it would to be live at the ground.
I hope you all have a great time no matter how you plan on watching.
Cheers form Newcastle, Australia!

Rise and shine, my fellow Reds an as today we approach the arena of our TWELFTH European final in a roller coaster season that has brought some highs and lows but all that could be forgotten tonight if we seize the great opportunity we have to add another European trophy to our cabinet. If I had the opportunity to speak to the players before the game, here is what I would say,

"Nothing on this earth can light a fire in an athlete's belly than playing with a chip on your shoulder. Through out this season, you have been reminded of all the things you could not do. Everyone has been telling you about what you can't achieve. Many thought and still think that some of you are worthless and aren't fit to wear the LFC shirt. Throughout this European journey time and again, you have proved them wrong. You have defied all the odds. You have made all the doubters eat their words but still they are out there rooting for your own failure. I say to you, today is not that day. For today, they will be fed like fat cows as they will be served their own words on a platter and will be forced to eat them.

However, this will only happen if you seize the moment tonight in that stadium. When you walk on to that pitch tonight, remember all those who hated on you, who mocked you, said you weren't good enuff, said you would never get this far, said you were worthless and not worth the bother. Remember all this words because that will be your edge tonight as in, make that chip on your shoulder as big as a bolder, to remind you of how you got here. Sevilla don't know what you have been through to get here. Tonight, let them know. Do not worry about the fans, nor the manager. They will be with you till the end. All you have to do is focus on the game. Stick together no matter what, play fast, play smart and most of all. No regrets. WE ARE RED TILL WE ARE DEAD!

18 May 2016 07:19:13
if we win this it will be so big. Some people i talk to still don't know why ( mostly united fans) . But it will be huge and not just a trophy , the momentum, the spirit, the feel good feeling, we would carry into next season with a manager like Klopp guiding us, it can be a dreamland for us in coming seasons. Today i just wish our players show what it means to them, what i means to the manager, would it means to the club and most importantly what it means for us fans. They carry our best wishes for tonight and i hope it drives them, gives them that extra they need. We can run them ragged tonite. we will run them ragged tonite. Its Liverpool they best club in whole world and for the current players it is a chance to be legends. tonights the night, and here we go again all behind our club . YNWA. let's all together Win it.

18 May 2016 11:58:10
Don't mind the Utd fans. They are still bitter that we thumped them in the same competition without even breaking a sweat.

18 May 2016 05:16:04
@ redohio: Brilliant post!

Pls God let this be it and while what we fight for is not the biggest trophy in the footballing world, it is the most important for us at this point in time.

18 May 2016 17:31:54
Thanks, Pank.

18 May 2016 02:54:41
Ed001, its looking like Skrtel and Kolo will be off in the summer, along with Ilori. Mama is prob looking at a minimum 6 month ban so that leaves Lovren, Matip and Gomez as the available CB's for the start of next season. i'm just wondering if we have looked at bringing in any other CB this summer? I can't see Klipperty going into the season with 3 CB's available. Thanks for all your hard work and patience!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - what makes you think Kolo is going? He has said he is very keen to stay.}

18 May 2016 05:52:12
And Lucas plays at CB too nowadays.

18 May 2016 07:01:08
Must keep Kolo. Player coach maybe or just player, he looks like a motivator in the dressing room, wife's bathroom cabinet aside he seems a model professional. Kolo, Milner and Lucas are the sort of pros we need and the youngsters need to see what training, lifestyle etc rewards you with.

18 May 2016 07:52:33
I'm guessing Lovren and Matip 1st team, Kolo and Lucas backup with either Sakho to be retained and return after 6months hopefully, or sold and replaced by a new recruit depending on clubs view of his situation.

Gomez may get the odd chance but more likely he'll get cup games and/ or his games at FB until has more experience. Wouldn't mind seeing him given some game time at RB.

18 May 2016 06:47:59
All the crap in the media ed001, all saying tonight is his last game and and fitting send off etc. I will stick with what you said originally, think it makes perfect sense to give him an extra year/ coaching role, the blokes so well liked it pays to have him round the squad never mind the fact he's been immense recently!

{Ed001's Note - he has the option to stay, he wants to stay, it seems unlikely he will go, unless someone comes in with a huge offer. It must be remembered his family are settled here, which means any big payday would have its consequences.}

18 May 2016 11:13:45
Toure will stay but it's still possible another CB will be signed. Whether Sakho has any future at Liverpool or not is far from certain and if we're in the CL it would be preferable to have 4 senior CBs. Although, a LB who can play CB may be an alternative solution. Perhaps a certain Bosnian that the Eds have already made us aware of.

18 May 2016 01:32:10
Personally I can't see us keeping Sturridge Ings and origi past next season. Three good strikers, which we are lucky to have, but really fighting for one spot. Albeit we haven't had two fit for ages, but it doesn't look like we are going to play 2 up front. Not many teams can keep 3 strikers happy, if they do the third is normally a youth player or a veteran. Origi is staying in my eyes, he offers the most alround. Sturridge is the best finisher, and we haven't seen enough of Ings in a red shirt, but he was quick fit and could finish. I think origi could establish himself as a real force next season, his finishing needs to improve, but he is young and raw. I hope Sturridge stays so much, the best goalscorer we have, can't afford to lose him. I worry Ings may take time to get his pace back, but really I think it will be the other two fighting it out for game time. Ings is a great third choice, but will he be happy with a bit part? Or will he earn more and force out Sturridge? Even with two games a week, you're only really starting two.
Could we see a front three of Sturridge origi and coutinho with firmino on behind? That I would like, very attacking mind.

18 May 2016 07:07:31
If we are successful and they enjoy football under Klopp, we win trophies or at least compete until the end, why would they leave? We pay top wages, we are a top side and include the criteria I've just mentioned, which in recent past was a reason to leave.

Klopp could get us regular CL football, he uses his squad and these three will all play a part. Also consider none of them can stay fit and we always look after our injured players.

We win tonight, we improve and are stronger next season, play CL football, it'll be the club not the players anymore who decide when they leave.

17 May 2016 18:45:04
Just had a look at the comparison between Migs and Karius.

Karius has conceded 42 goals this season while Migs 40. They both have poor distribution accuracy of 60% to the former and 66% to the later.
Migs has kept 11 clean sheets while Karius has 9. Karius edge Migs on the Saves 86 to 52.
Mignolet has had 18 successful punches while Karius clocked at 16.

And boy we never had a solid defense, LB or even a CDM through out.

These stats either might be pointless or a reference bar. It's our call to look at.

I am pretty sure he is just a cover. I would personally sell Migs bring in a top class keeper and play Ward as second choice.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

18 May 2016 00:54:53
Stats can be manipulated however you want.

This is just another poor attempt by yet another account of yours to incite an argument over nothing.

Eds, is it possible to have an ignore function added to the site? So we don't have to view posts by certain posters?

{Ed001's Note - Karius played for a struggling team, Migs played for one that should have been near the top, but for his 'contribution'.}

These are the sort of stats I simply do not see as relevant. Does Karius play in a team of similar quality to us? Would Karius' distribution have improved if he had played with better ball retention players like Coutinho or Firmino? I would think yes, and this is just an example of the specious nature of the stats you bought up.

I am sure he is coming in initially as the 2nd choice 'keeper, but no doubt he will be a better player to push Mignolet than Bogdan, while the club feel Ward needs more experience.

I think a lot of people have put blind faith into whoever the manager wants. I think it's been like this ever since klopp came in, as if he's the saviour of this football club without actually doing what he wants to do. I think it's a poor mentality, it shows how average we have become as a football club. We have to remember that it is his privilege to work for Liverpool fc not the other way round. With that said, every manager makes mistakes and klopp is certainly no exception. I think recruitment might be a problem by the looks of things. I truly hope klopp manages to create the same sort of players he helped make at Dortmund but people have to remember that this is not Dortmund. We don't have the quality of football that they have in Germany. Developing young players in Germany is a lot easier than it is here. Bigger pool of talent and better grass roots football. So with all that being said, it's great to see a few additions that have great potential but when most of your signings are cheap risks then is that much different to some of the signings Rogers made. All the signings we have made thus far would have not suprised me if they where made by Rogers and the transfer committee, because that is the sort of calibre we went for. We actually haven't gone and got anyone that clearly improves our first team and I'm not even talking about household luxury players, because that is not what we need at all. Loris karius is the only one I'm remotely interested in and your post about the stats does not suprise me at all. Matip is no upgrade on sahko, grujic is no upgrade on any of our midfielders, zielinski is probably only better than Allen. I'm really scratching my head at some of these transfers as I really thought we would want to improve the underachieving first team we have. Maybe due to a shortage of money or we may have to sell to buy.

Of course all of what I am saying could end up being predetermined nonsense and most if not all the players brought in actually flourish under klopp, I doubt it but it's possible. I do believe in klopp, I think we have a top quality manager, but I am not covering my eyes with tinted glasses, when I think a mistake has been made by the club and anyone within it I will speak my mind as I love Liverpool fc over everything else.

{Ed001's Note - better grass roots football? Is that a wind up? Bigger pool of talent and better coaching, but no country in the world has a grass roots base that can hold a candle to the English game.}

i don't think that is how you should judge a keeper harry.

stats don't tell the whole story mate.

I love stats! But like others have said, it's important how they are used. Sometimes just selecting stats from squawka and then regurgitating them can lead you astray.

Some key things from your #s and some others fron squawka:

- Mainz have been under the pump! Of the 128 attempts on their goal, Karius has saved 67% of them. That's compared to Mignolet's 55%

- of all those attempts it seems Karius has not made an error that directly lead to a goal this season.

- karius saves to goal ratio is a tick over 2:1 and migs about 1.2:1 read into that what you will.!

- Karius distribution accuracy is slightly worse than Migs but on average is distributin the ball 18m further than Migs. So obviously that is about playing style and Karius accuracy naturally being lower if he is sending the ball upfield more of the time.

All in all I've never seen the lad play. But based on #s all I can say is that it desnt look totally depressing.!

harry's been reading too many jaimie kanwar articles.

Im hesitant to agree with what you are saying about the transfers. From what I've heard and seen, both Karius and Matip will challenge straight away for first team action, Zielinski and Grujic look like they have been bought for the future but should fit on the bench. So yes they aren't Messi like transfers but so what. The team is more than the sum of its parts so as long as they strengthen the squad without sending the club broke, i'm happy. And all 4 look like they will suit Klopp's philosphy which should see us continue to improve. Sure the club could go for broke, sign Messi, Rues and whichever other superstar you want to buy the league nest year but i'd rather build for long term success (and not do a Leeds) . Besides, they haven't even started playing for the club yet so let's give them a chance - actually several chances because I can't see them all setting the world alight at the start and even then I expect inconsistency.

Its a fact that 78.4% of statistics are simply made up on the spot.

18 May 2016 07:03:18
Ih no, not that complete berk Kanwar. He'll deliberately writes a click bait headline like 'Deal officially announced by LFC for top international striker'.
You look and its a 5 line story about jerome sinclair joining watford.
How many times are people going to fall for this cheap phoney tactic? Wise up people!
Its 'Utter garbage', as he would say with his get out jail trademark quotes.

18 May 2016 08:07:15
There's nothing wrong with trying to analyze a potential signing and as none of us are particularly familiar with him stats are add good as a way to go as any. We all know these stats don't tell the full story but it's useful information regardless. Thanks Harry.

18 May 2016 08:09:25
Stats are useless for goalkeepers. If we played crouch and the green giant up top, unsure mignolets distribution would be a lot higher. Saves will depend on how many shots are faced etc it's almost pointless typing.

18 May 2016 08:43:05
Ignoring the stats completely, I have similar concerns about Karius as I do Migs. Both are dodgy with any ball over 6ft in the air, neither of them have good distribution and they don't organise their defenders.
Personally I don't think Karius is the answer. I don't know why he left City but if he couldn't displace their keeper then that tells you a lot of info.
He probably is a "decent shot stopper" a la Migs but he is not suitable for the premier league. Premier league keepers need to be able to catch a high ball under extreme pressure. He can change obviously, but I don't hold much hope with our coaching staff. Maybe we could poach Man Utd's goalkeeper coach?

18 May 2016 09:11:59
I have similar concerns about him, i guess klopp sees migs as no 1 and if karius is to be bought he would simply take the place of the outgoing bogdan.

If that is the case i have doubts abouts klopps ability to judge a decent keeper. Ward can do just as good a job as karius who for me has jittery handling.

We will see how he pans out, he may surprise us and be the new neuer or maybe not!

18 May 2016 10:49:46
ed, are you sure that Karius is playing for a struggling team? Mainz finished 6th and qualified for Europa League. Not Bundesliga's best, but far from struggling.

Karius may have lower distribution accuracy, but as faithinworks touched on, that could be influenced by the variable of playing style. Also, half the reason why Migs' distribution sucks is not because of its accuracy but because of how delayed it is. He takes too many touches on the ball, which in effect gives the opposition more time to settle (and puts himself under more pressure) ; and also, after getting the ball in his hands he never opts for an instant punt to catch the opposition off guard, and instead drags it out to the point that he was once actually fouled for it (! ) - the only time he instantly releases the ball is when he chucks it to a team mate nearby.

{Ed001's Note - everybody bar Dortmund and Bayern are struggling in Germany mate.}

Thought we all knew he was back up? That's been said for ages now.
