Hi ed past few days have been quiet regarding things apart from the snjeider rumour and nice dealing stalling, can I ask you is there going to be any more deals and who's most likely if any ? {Ed052's Note - there are. Probably surprises}

There will be no deals

Just seen an article by the guardian about BR agreeing with SG and LS. Could be something interesting in the pipeline, all the talking to the press is hinting at one thing for me... fingers crossed!

K79

It will be the "smokescreen" ;-)

JOHN A

That one things being that they would like the opportunity to compete for more experienced players

Is anyone else having doubts about BR .....?

Lots of rhetoric..... Flatters to deceive in my view- the jury is still out for me unfortunately - but I hope I'm proved wrong in time.

I'm in the pro-BR camp, it's not getting immediate results but it's more strategic than RH, KD and the end of Rafa's spell. At times I get annoyed and want him gone, but how would thatmake things better? At least BR's philosophy is based on technical attcking football, GH ad RB's wasn't. I can take a season of 6/7th if we move on next year...

Whatever. Same old tired tune. Too many so called 'fans' have been slating Rodgers since he became the manager, before we even kicked a ball in the league. They go quiet for a minute after a good game, sitting in their corner waiting for anything that hints at a chance to moan again.

It's been half a season. At least give it 2 summer windows and 10 games in to the next season. Judge then. Support now.

SpudRed

You will be

Will always be doubts, until such time as he delivers something tangible.
I still think he is wrong for LFC, there are far better and more experienced managers that should have been considered.

Under BR it seems to be ok to lose on a regular basis as we are a so called team in yet another transition.

A team that struggles against any slightly superior opposition.

Long way to go for BR and FSG, not sure either have the ambition.

Doubts about BR - not me
i think he is doing ok - it was always going to be a tough season but the signs are good. I like the number of chances we create, the way we play and to be fair to him he got stitched up in the summer. youth has been given a chance(maybe forced due to injuries and senior pro's not being good enough)but he has blooded them. I like the way he speaks with respect about all things LFC and our history and believe that he will get it right over time - quick fixes won't happen as we won't spend £300m on a new squad - the squad will evolve and grow together and when we look at the U21's there is a conveyor belt of talent being prepared for 1st team action over the next 5 years, players like Ibe will be great, Wisdom looks as if he will be a full international over the same time period.
the future looks bright the future looks red - so give BR some time and look to the future whilst revelling in the glory of 5 european cups etc. we are a club with a great history and with a little patience a great future.

gra2966

Nope. None. It's just difficult to turn around years of decline, on and off the field, in half a season.

I have my doubts about you as a true Liverpool supporter.

Red Machine

Has he Been in the job long enough to have a jury Yet!!

In answer to the last post, who are the better managers available that could have been appointed?

At the time I really wanted AVB, and obviously Pep would have been a dream.

But in the real world who would have been better? Harry? O'neil? I'm confounded...

18 Jan 2013 22:38:32
thought I would just mention theo walcott has signed a new contract with arsenal.the reason I mention it is because his name has been banded around on this page for the last 4 months by everyone and his dog and I don't see his name anywhere today, so just in case you all miss seeing his name on here i, ll say it again THEO WALCOTT HAS RENEWED HIS CONTRACT WITH ARSENAL

True, he has signed a new contract, but there are still two weeks left to the window so we could still sneak in with a cheeky bid and sign him. Eds, if we sign him by midnight tonight could he start against Norwich tomorrow? ; >

Were we ever in doubt?

19 Jan 2013 10:04:46
Congratulations, you guessed right all along! Clever thing aren't you!

Every other new born girl in Liverpool will now be name delfina (Suarez daughters name) because its a anagram of anfield lol

...and the others will be named Pongo Is A Dork after Everton's ground?

Yep, haha, I can see it now, knowing my luck as soon as my baby girls born and I name her that, the naming rights to Anfield will be sold!!
I'll have to rename her Heineken or Pizza hut or something

Kelly Red

Well, Sir Alex Ferguson is an anagram of Ass Groin Flexure... Coincidence? I think not.

HazRed

LMAO if my memory serves me right, delfina was the name of the island in the fantasy game super-mario sunshine world.that would be about right for liverpool fans LLF, fantasists living in a fantasy world, god knows what it also says about saurez LLF

18 Jan 2013 22:28:43
Eds,

Regarding the Wesley Spider situation if Liverpool were to make a bid for him do you think others such as mancs, spurs, arsenal will make a bid for him or be interested.

GAM#

If Liverpool do make a bid for him then so will Spurs.

Interesting strategy. Spurs sign Liverpool targets and have a better team than Liverpool. Guess their strategy works!

Well we should make a big bid, then pull out and let Spurs have him

hello eds, I am 17 years old and supported liverpool since I was about 7 or 8 and absolutely love LFC. but I have not been to any of the game watch them on tv if there on and don't know any of the songs am I still classed as a proper true fan. I dream for the oppurtunity to go to anfield in the near future and most likely I will go becuase I was planning on going with my best mate

appreciated any replies. LFC YNWA

William weir {Ed052's Note - of course mate. Just because you dont go to games doesn't make you an untrue fan. As long as youth live, breath and bleed Liverpool!}

It's sad that people have made you feel like you have to question yourself as a fan. With a club as large and great as Liverpool football club it is inevitable that millions of fans won't be able to attend a game ever in their lives. Ticket prices now-a-day are astronomical and if I was in a position were I lost my job I would not be able to maintain my season ticket. Live the dream my friend, that journey one day will be worth it. LFC Family

Did not get to my first game till I was 25 lad I was mad about them before I went that's why I went and I try to go twice a year now but it hard in this cliamate but it dose not make you or me any less a fan youll get there some day and thanks to fsg it will still be anfield so no worrys about it not been some were else
red rrab

Haha wait till you go to anfield mate, you'll be hooked and it won't take long for you to go back as you'll do anything to get there! Lol YNWA

Ashy

Just mime and pretend you know like we all do at weddings etc.

God loves a tryer pal.

Get to the game and go for a scran in good old Bohemian city centre.

There's plenty of time.

Don't doubt your support but be grateful you're not a whinger like many of the pessamist glory-hunters on this site.

DaveyBootle

I live down south but have been a Liverpool fan all my life. Never been to Anfield to see a game although have been on the tour.My son who is 11 is also a fan and I have promised him that one day we will get to see a game, but tickets are hard to come by. Although I live down south I feel LFC in my blood.Yes we are so called armchair supporters but will support them through thick and thin.

Nobody sings at the matches anyway these days. The only song we sing is the fields of Anfield road and the Suarez song.

18 Jan 2013 23:47:41
lol daveybootle, none of us csn be glory hunters anymore. We've red-through and through, the next generation that are waiting for success or just the offspring of true fans.

I'm 18 pal born in Liverpool but live in Manchester, never got to many games as my dad could never afford tickets. Always been a mad fan though and this season signed up as a member on the website and got a job to fund buying tickets to all the home games, and even some away which are awesome! Off to study at Liverpool uni next year as well so won't need to save up petrol to drive myself down! Just because you can't get to games doesn't make you any less of a fan than anyone else, even when I couldn't go to games I was still mad about the club, its not the going to the games that matters, some people are just lucky enough to live near liverpool or be lucky enough to have a season ticket, keep on supporting pal!

Alan Partridge

There are over 11 million likes of liverpool fc on FB, anfield only holds 45, 500 don't feel left out!

Being a liverpool supporter is not dependant on attendance at Anfield. If its in your heart, then you will always be a liverpool supporter. Stay proud and loyal, you will get to Anfield one day i'm sure.

Tel 1949

Don't ever worry about being a true fan and not going to games. As long as you always defend the club to supporters if other clubs and still be there in the bad times not just the good you'll be doing your bit.
I'm 43 and have only been to Anfield once, I've seen a few cup finals and have watched them 3 times at OT! As you see my son is a Utd fan. I know it's the biggest failure if my life but I blame the ex wife. However, to stand up behind the players family area when El Niño put his header in the net and scream out loud made me realise they were in my blood. Stick with it son and wear your liver heart in your sleeve and nobody will question you.

Sorry a bit away from the OP. Regarding the poster who says we only sing Fields of Anfield Rd and Suarez song is interesting. I live just up the road from the Swansea ground and their fans are definitely their 12th man. I remember back in the day we had all the songs for 91 minutes. Now not so much. Why do other clubs seem more motivated nowadays?

Mate A fan is a fan weather he goes the game or not I am just like you a tv fan I have not entered a football ground since 1989 and never will again but I love Liverpool FC till the day I die I trully hope you get to Anfield son it is the greatest ground in the world

Hey don't sweat it, I'm an american who's never even been to England let alone Liverpool but I consider myself as big of a fan as anyone because I haven't missed a game in years regardless of the 5 hour time difference, seeing every american called "yonk", "yonk" or whatever else... and paying extra for the tv channels to make sure I'm front and center in front of my big screen for every match. I think the real fans always recognize real passion regardless of location.

phillyred

Ur a fan but it doesn't take long to learn a song so why haven't you bothered?

Really hope the crowd tommorow are going to make it a great home debut for our new danny boy! Sometimes when we play teams that everyone thinks were going to win easily, the crowd become anxious when we don't score early, its going to be a chilly afternoon, so wrap up well, and be patient. And let's give daniel a home debut he won't forget! Also having read some crazy comments about suarez this week, all because he owned up for something he regretted and was apologising about, he should of been praised not slaughtered! So get behind our best player, and show him how much he is appreciated! Good Luck Boy's

The tune is from an old song O Danny boy if you don't know it ask your mam or dad or gran and grandad

"44 months with a pair of cowboys".... Read it and weep

The title is, AN EPIC SWINDLE, 44 months with a pair of cowboys (Brian Reade, 2011).

This book provides great context about the challenges that we faced, and FSG continue to face, in order to bring this club back to the top.

Special day tomorrow for me....first trip to Anfield with my 6 year old son.

After travelling up to Liverpool this morning (took the boy out of school and set off early just in case the weather cause havoc on the roads) we are now in our hotel room ready for tomorrow's game.

I was planning to give him the full induction, he has learnt all the songs and we were meant to go to The Academy in the morning to watch the kids (all Academy games have been called off) before making our way to Anfield.

Looking forward to the day; with our first stop the club shop to buy him this seasons kit, hat and scarf! Get into the ground early to watch the boys warm up and soak up the atmosphere.
I hope we get three points and we get plenty of goals!!

His first Liverpool game was Spurs away last year disappointing game but we sang and cheered until the last Liverpool player left the pitch!

I hope I will be reading positive comments on here tomorrow!evening!

GGK {Ed052's Note - have a great time mate. Hope the little one has a ball. First trips are almost amazing}

Dad of the year! Have a great day!

Have a great time

It's sounds the perfect weekend for you both. Good on ya, have a great day at anfield.

Hey sounds great - wrap up warm both of you and best wishes to your boy ... And tell him - welcome to the Kop family from all LFC fans!

These are the days and memories that he will cherish long in to adulthood. Hope you a fantastic day from beginning to end.

Good luck to you both. It will be special for him.

18 Jan 2013 23:11:13
Know you'll both love it, hope you've got seats in the heart of the Kop or down at the far end of the main stand where the chants and atmosphere rule.

Can't wait to get my lad there (only 2 now) going to be amazing.

Still remember my first game even tho it was at 15 and a walkover (QPR) enjoy it mate!

Try and do the tour.
May I ask how did you go about getting tickets as I have found it near impossible.
Hope you enjoy it with your son as 1 day I hope to do the same.
Paul

Did the very same couple of years ago for europa league match with benfica with my then 6 year old, in middle of kop, club shop, cafe for beans and chips, pub for a pint..... you'll have a great day! atmosphere amazing!

You never forget your first time at Anfield. Truly is a magical place. Mine was LFC v FC Zurich in 1979. I'll never forget it. Enjoy!

Gordy

Although I live in London I grew up in the North West. I have a couple of Friends who have season tickets who still live in Liverpool so I have managed to get a couple in the main stand.

I am sure some of the guys on here will be able to help you.

Also keep an eye on some of the message boards on LFC Fan sites, occasionally fans advertise tickets available for games they cannot make.

GGK

Have a brilliant time, I remember taking my boy all those years ago, you will never forget it and neither will he YNWA

The easiest way to get tickets is on the Liverpool website mate. If you become a member it's even easier but that'll cost you around £30 each membership. Sadly it's all about money these days but I'm sure it'll be priceless for you when you and your boy are in the famous Kop with your scarfs singing YNWA

19 Jan 2013 10:13:51
With all the positive/negative banter going back and forth it's made my day a post like this gets the most replys!

We're all fans here and the first time at Anfield is amazing, enjoy!

Have a fantastic day both of you hope it is everything your son has dreamed it would be have no doubt it will be best ground in the world and best fans and best city you two will have a ball

18 Jan 2013 21:22:29
Hey Eds, thanks for all the work you guys are doing with the site, the fans greatly appreciate it.

My question is regarding the transfer policy at Liverpool, do you believe that we will sign any experienced players if they were the right fit for the team, no matter if they were late 20s or early 30s? Or will we only ever sign players under 25 for cheap? With Gerrard and Suarez coming out saying you need a good balance there, do you think some of the senior players are getting tired of our "youth Policy"?? {Ed052's Note - we will sign the most suitable players. There is NO transfer policy. And players are not fed up.}

18 Jan 2013 23:17:57
ED052, you clearly state players are not fed up.... What evidence do you have of starving players, is it something to do with horseburgers???

Heerenveen's attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic has turned down a move to Russian giants CSKA Moscow in order to stay in Holland.

The 20-year-old Serbian star was reportedly the target of Manchester United and Liverpool last summer and has previously said he will leave Heerenveen at the end of this season.

Djuricic now seems intent on remaining at the Abe Lenstra Stadion for the foreseeable future until a 'dream club' comes calling after rejecting CSKA's overtures.

"I don't want to leave for a top club just yet, " he told De Telegraaf. "In about four years from now I have to be at a club like PSV Eindhoven, Twente, Ajax or Vitesse.

"If I'm not at any of these clubs, then I think I will be playing in Spain, England, Germany or Italy."

Suarez Vs Newcastle by a country mile!

RedSpud

+1 on the Suarez goal against Newcastle. I can watch that one over and over again.

Teach that one in training. Ok kids, Running full sprint with a defender on your heels, control a ball coming straight down over your shoulder using your collar bone, dance it around the on rushing keeper with a little right foot left foot control, then walk it into the net. Easy.

John W Henry is on twitter saying there is no money and he is broke.

His account may have been hijacked or he is fed up with fans asking about transfers. Either way makes him look like a joke.

It's a fake image, and was pretty poorly done tbh, the guy making the fake response shoulda ensured the text was the same, (the letter be is a massive tell tale sign) also the lack of verified account tick

He hadn't tweeted for ages prior to this. I reckon someone has hacked his account.

Feeling rather excited about seeing if Borini emerges as a talent in the coming weeks. Does anyone else share this optimism? I can't help think the boy will deliver.....

18 Jan 2013 21:56:08
I kinda do, just before he got injured he started playing a role that seperated the oppo's CB's or created space between CB's and Full Backs. He's going to at least be a distraction for teams trying to pick up Luis and Danny, I think he's going to also weigh in with goals.

Defo borini is a great talent & was played out of position at the start of season & prob for the rest of this season.

He has great movement & is a very accomplished finisher, fans just need to be patient with him.

Jimbob

Your joking right? Did you ever watch him play before he got injured. I think he's awful

Hope Sturridge coming in will take all the pressure off Borini and he gets a chance to shine.

Here's the full story on Celtic rejecting Norwich's bid for striker Gary Hooper. An unimpressed Neil Lennon said: "There's a bid, but it's very disappointing it has been made public knowledge. We do our business as privately as possible and it's been leaked out somewhere, so I'm not happy about that."

should Liverpool have a try ?

hhh {Ed052's Note - no. He is simply not good enough}

19 Jan 2013 08:35:23
Stupid ignorant comment, you say he is not good enough, celtic are in champions league something liverpool are not, this guy is doing the buisness against European finest

He doing well in CL

18 Jan 2013 20:09:54
Sterling needs a rest. I also think It would be good to rest Gerrard but BR can't do this because our bench is poor. Big home game tomorrow a must win seen as its the 'easier' game of the this tough month. Sturridge must start no excuses

Not lfc related but what a terrible decision from Southampton. Back to back promotion and a more than decent chance of staying up.

Amazing lack of loyalty, kinda hope they go down now.

And hopefully Stoke below them

That would effect the Fans and it's not their fault!!

Hay ed's and reds. Thanks eds for all the patience. Well I don't know how patient you are vocally when editing ;-) can we please stop with the sneider roumers. The eds i'd say are dreading coming onto this site. Other reds really need to stop asking the question over and over. Otherwise we will have to name the page sneider rumours.

In regards to salaries if you need to ask the question your not going to understand the answer. Rant over hope we get another Suarez hattrick tomorrow and I hope Suarez and Sturridge start upfront tomorrow. I hope he drops Allen also, no disrespect to the lad but I thought we played better when he was out of the team recently.

Thanks.

All the talk of wages, ages and other subjects need to stop. It's time to talk about the match. It's been a week, since our last disappointment and I'm excited about what tomorrow may bring.

Think we'll put out an exciting team (bar Downing), with a strong bench. Suarez to have a field day, but only bag one. Sturridge to score also, plus Borini from the bench. 3-1 my prediction.

Accorrding to the training bibs, sturridge sterling borini and sturridge will all be starting against norwich

BR said the squad is thin yet 3 have gone out and only 1 in.Ince looks a difficult deal to push through so I hope we have something in the pipe line but my contacts are v quiet

Only small info I have is a bid for Danny rose late in the window

wes would come and board would allow it but BR doesn't want him.

4 out now including Wilson. Cole, Sahin, Morgan and Wilson.

Yes but none of the above, apart from sahin, are good enough at this moment to play in the first team.

Morgan will be back in Feb, it was a month loan

Would love to see sturridge and Henderson both start tomorrow need the tempo to be high. First half last week br got all wrong. Need to start attacking both home and away from the get go. I still do bit expect us to finish in top 4 but the league is so bad that a few wins I a row and anything can happen. 3 pts clean sheet . And we give ourselves a chance. Also vital to win at anfield and make it a fortress once again.
Come on you redmen .

Great sentiments mate, but going balls-out against Norwich is a little different than against Utd yes?

18 Jan 2013 19:17:21
Two players that would enhance and balance the squad in my opinion: Tom Ince and Alonso. Just think Ince has the confidence and character to come back and succeed. Xabi would be my 'new' Gary Mac. He allows others to perform and again like Ince would fit seemlessly into our style of play.

i was talking to a middlesboro' youth team coach and he said we've enquired about a 19year old left winger of theirs, didn't say who though, any ideas eds? {Ed052's Note - have a look at their squad list}

Downing poor and Johnson poor, so maybe it's third time lucky?

18 Jan 2013 18:36:09
Anyone who questions whether sneijder would cope in EPL, are you serious? This guy is one of the worlds best, of course he'll cope! If we could sign him, we have the possibility of having a very good 2nd half of the season. Who cares if his wages would be quite high (even with the wage cut), we've just moved Sahin on so he can just replace his high wages (except actually put in performances to justify his salary). Just imagine Gerrard, Lucas, Sneijder behind Suarez, Borini/Sterling and Sturridge...frightening. Please FSG, if you are serious about getting us back to the big time, buy sneijder because you will never again get a chance to buy a world class star for as little as 6 million. Dont waste this opportunity!

RDR

Shevchenko was a better player than Sneijder in Serie A. He didn't get on too well in the EPL.
Daniel YNWA

What happens if we sign Sneijder and he turns out to be a spectacular flop just like old Aquilani?

And what right does Sneijder have to earn more than Luis Suarez let alone Steven Gerrard?

If it did happen and we put a bid in for him then rightfully he should join to play for the shirt, not money. In that case he can go and retire somewhere else.

Max

Mate I couldn't agree more! The odds might be smaller me winning the Nigerian lottery on a Tuesday morning but we can dream! Hope I'm wrong but time will tell.

World cup final, CL, Sera A he win everything

19 Jan 2013 00:15:39
sneijder's record of games played over last few years is not very impressive, doubt he would hit ground running like sturridge appears to be doing. also heard from a dutch mate that he comes with "issues". for me any deal would have to be right for pool. spend in haste now, repent at leisure (as inter now continue to do!) now alonso would be an entirely different matter...

Just to change the subject, have any actual negotiations taken place between WBA and us regarding the loan on Coates, would be a great move for both parties as he is more likely to gain a starting spot giving him first team football, but also allowing Rodgers to see him and a huge chance to impress. Agreed it would be a good move. I think Coates will do well working under Clarke.

It makes me sick the criticism that BR gets from some on here. One of the sticks they use to beat him is how SC is doing at West Brom or how well Swansea are doing.
Their new managers aren't exactly creating a new style of playing are they. They're working with what was already there.
However, no disrespect to them, but they not exactly expected to challenge for the top 4 places any time soon or on a regular basis, so the fans are not on their backs and they know how to actually support the team and encourage them to play.
We had a very defensive minded manager in Houllier. Rafa was probably even more defensive miinded and also changed to zonal marking. Woy was well out of his depth, had a very limited playing style and then KK & SC didn't seem to know how to play.
The players are now learning a new system. Something like how the great Liverpool teams of old used to play and had in their nature.
It will take time to change.
I remember when I was in the primary school football team. I was a right winger and was made to play fullback. I was not allowed to cross the halfway line. If I did, I was given laps at the end of the match. My natural play was to go forward, take on the defender and head towards goal. It's hard to change what comes naturally and after a while you question what to do rather than do what comes naturally.
Then the cubs team I played as a right winger and it took a while to gain confidence and not worry about losing the ball or being so far up the pitch.
If this affected me so much after only a short period of time and at such a young age, imagine what it will do to a player that has been playing for years and has had a certain way of playing or not playing ingrained into them. It might takes a very long time to reverse the damage if it can even be reversed at all.
BR will be identifying the players that can/will adapt and identify players to come in that will do the job needed in the system being played.
It is only at the point that the ideal player is playing in the ideal position in this system that we will see consistency with the results.
There have been glimpses of how it will be once things are in place, but it will take time.
I remember when Rafa first introduced zonal marking, the results were very inconsistent, like the defending. After a while it seemed to click and we had probably the best defensive record for about 3 seasons, were very hard to score against let alone get beat.
I believe all true fans will allow BR time and they can see how things are improving.
I think we should ignore the plastics on here that seem to be spam posting - moaning and complaining about everything.
Get behind the team and club, make some noise at Anfield and encourage the team to play without fear.
Where's the 12th man gone that used to be the Anfield crowd?
Where's the famous atmosphere?
It's embarassing the amount of times the away support out-sings the home support these days.

"Creating a new style of football" He hasnt invented the wheel you know.

Perhaps he meant implementing a style of football and creating a new philosophy within the LFC.

Have you watched any games recently

The tempo of our play is very slow and all about possession

A lot of the game is played around our box between the CBs and the Keeper.

It is more of a chess match rather than roaring end to end football.

Defensively we are set up too thin.
With the FBs pushed so far up, we need to play with 2 deep midfielders especially when teams are happy to push and press us high up.

The games I have been to I have noticed the volume has been turned down but there is no much to sing about or get excited unless the referee awards a free kick for a foul on Suarez.

Get of his back, Biggest mistake was letting Dalglish back

I'm a BR fan and happy to be patient. But the poster who describes our usual mode of play is right. It's slow possession football that relies on Luis to do something remarkable. I don't think there's anywhere near enough support for the man on the ball allowing him to pass and move forward to receive it again. I'm bored watching the ball popped forward to a man with his back to goal who then passes it first time back to the man who just passed to him. This is why we haven't beaten a top side all season. Too ponderous and we concede against anyone half decent.

Great 1st post, a bit of positivity for once, for gods sake people, brendan has only been at liverpool since last summer, how many fans kept saying last year, kenny needs 2-3 years, I know the thrase " rome wasn't built in a day " gets use a lot, but seriously let's give him a season to bed in, then we will see the big improvements, because I can see them in the 1st 6 months, another point is, we are starting to beat the bottom half teams on a more consistent basis, which in recent years was are downfall, when we start winning the top teams, which we will, we can beat out are chess once more loud and proud (I do anyway) that we are the greatest team the world as ever seen, and its liverpool, liverpool fc, they're by far the greatest team the world as ever seen, and its......... Sorry got carried away there! Come on the boys, let's beat them canaries 2morrow! Y.N.W.A
I reckon its going to be a 3-0 win, got a feeling, glen johnson to get the 1st, sturridge 2nd and suarez the last!

I couldn't care about BR, his limitations as manager will become more apparent as the season wears on.
We could and should have got better.

Thanks.
Quigz23

Both Allen and Sterling need a game or two off, total game day rest and a light week of training. Allen didn't have a summer off and has had nothing but massive stress and expectation since coming here, fans on his back and Lucas getting re-injured. Sterling is still a kid and needs careful handling.

Spot on spud - both stepped up big time earlier in the season when our squad was thin on the ground. They've proved themselves to be valuble squad members and regular starters.

Allen definitley needs a rest, the confidence has gone and a few games on or from the bench will get him right.

With Sterling I'm not so sure, I don't want to see him burn out but I'm not sure if being dropped will be the answer - might break that confident swagger he has. Strange to say but it would be nice if he picked up a dead leg or bruised foot to enforce a short break without hurting the confidence.

Give Allen the rest of the season off, he is another one of BR's super buys - lets hope DS bucks the trend!

sneijder is available at a decent price, &we won't even make abid for him, so much for person head ian ayre saying we can atract top quality players& if any become available we, ll try & sign them, well we've got 2weeks left to see what happens, & we all no that nothing will happen, sneijder would make our team far better & he's available but as usual he, ll go to another team & do well, while we fall futher behind again, hope i'm proved wrong,

18 Jan 2013 16:47:51
I just want offer my opinion in to the interview BR gave in where he stated that the club where not going to go hard after desired short list of players this window and have the attitude "if there still available in the summer we will try again". My concern with this atttitude is that I don't really believe we have enough depth to further position on the table, therefore finishing in a position that does not appeal to our short listed targets for the summer. So eds I was just a thought would it be beneficial to really attack one more marque signing this window to provide some advantage to set us for summer?,

All right then; Name me some truly good January EPL transfer signings by anyone, ever.

I can think of Suarez for us, and maybe Adebayor to Arsenal in 2006, and Young to Villa in 2007, and Maybe Vidic to United in 2006.

as much as i hate to say this but messrs hicks and gillet certainly knew how to spend money on world class players ie alonso mascherano torres arbeloa etc making lfc a very strong candidate for the prem title, where are we going now mid table we so badly need the likes of snjeider if we are going to challenge and win games cmon fsg put your money where your mouth is!!! listen to the fans sign snjeider before mufc do!! ynwa

I give up...

They never spent money you complete donut! That's why LFC had £300M worth of debt around it's neck when they left! They saddled it on the club. How can you possibly claim to be a fan & not know this??

The only big mistake Hicks & Gillet did was to borrow the money to Purchase the club and recession hit them very badly

Unbelievable, I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but my god that must rank up there with one of the most stupid comments iv'e ever read. Hicks and Gillets years of mismanagement is the reason FSG have such a mess to clean up.

18 Jan 2013 16:09:30
I was wondering what people think about our transfer policy of signing younger aged players for the future...The problem that I have with it is it will take time for young players to develop and grow, and as our main target is Champions league football the longer we miss out on a top 4 finish the harder it will be to catch up with say a spurs. Now if they are to finish in 4th place then I am sure that they will splash more cash on players who have vast experience and who are ready now i.e Damiao, Moutinho and others, now as we are biding our time without champions league football in the long run we will lose our best players Suarez and co that is a fact! we need to buy quality and buy quality I mean players who are ready now with the experience needed to get us into the champions league places...So sneijder would be a good shout but the chances of that happening are zero . Instead we spend all of January chasing Thomas Ince a player who I don't think we really need. I would like to see us try and go for the Sneijders of this world and continue to add youngsters then let them grow with players of his calibre..training and playing with world class players will make you a better player overall.

Thatracoonstolemybacon

It is insane! They fail to address present weakness which will limit our ability for future success, they have said themselves they know nothing of football their actions continually affirm that!

I agree brilliant post Antrim Red

I am behind it although now I think we have enough potential in our squad, I agree ince is a bit of a pointless signing on paper as i'm sure for the money there could be better options. we do need another forward 3 player for rotation. I think that it could be wise to buy a bit of experience but rodgers is the boss.
derryred

I haven't seen a great deal of Ince and therefore don't have an opinion either way however I believe there is a real need for another wide forward, given Assaidi is away and has barely been played, which I believe Ince is. If Suarez is dropped behind Sturridge liked we finished against United with Steve and Lucas as the back two midfielders. The two wide options we have been using are Sterling, who is looking tired and we are only about to start the hard run in now, and Downing, who is too rarely to standard. Assuming you could interchange Borini there as one and then I believe we need another option for the otherside. That being said, BR may play Luis wide in which case every thing I said may be a waste of your and my time.

I dunno what to think regarding Schneider coming to us. But in terms of comparison. VDV was untried in EPL made an instant impact to spuds, and helped in more ways in regard to teammates stepping up etc etc.

Personally I see him as ideal RIGHT NOW, ok he may not be bargain bin buy, but experience he could pass on could help BR in 6 month, rather than 2-3 years of the young-uns playin week in week out.

Another reference, RVP similar age, ok EPL proven, but he is the link between the young uns and the experience.

I just cannot see how BR/FSG could miss at least a bid, with decent package for Wesley, he is in his prime, genuine world class talent with heaps of experience to pass on.
He could be our VDV, Cantona etc for 3 years easily.

Piddy.

VDV lasted about two seasons in the prem - that's really how to build for the future.

We can also compare him to joe cole, a world class talent who everyone was excited about signing.
Look I would love to see sjneider signed but we can easily see why fsg aren't going for it.

18 Jan 2013 15:51:54
I know there are other factors to consider but, given the chioce, who would you prefer - Hooper, 24 years old (69 goals for Celtic since 2010) roughly £5-6m, or, Ince, 20 years old, at least £6m

Agree - Hooper
Disagree - Ince

Neither, what we have already is better and with Ibe hopefully progression to the first team next season I think buying ince would hinder his developement.

I pressed disagree because you have no means of knowing what Hooper's price would be - besides, he would no longer fit in with Sturridge coming in and Borini getting better.

Still, not that keen on Ince, but we do need another wide striker.

Drigan

Norwich had a £10m bid rejected so you can scrap your valuation of him. Celts have cl and we don't. Defo no move til the summer.

Isn't he in last 6 months of his contract!!

I think its time some people on here stop blaming the owners for the clubs troubles and take a long hard look in the mirror. The 'FSG out' group seem to constantly over look the fact these guys saved our club from going into addministration and this is the thanks they get, another point that's over looked is the amount of money they gave Kenny to build a squad, is it their fault that money was wasted. I'm sure when Sneijder doesn't sign they will get even more abuse, the lad is nothing more than a merc, i'd imagine he would play for any club that's willing to pay him enough. In an ideal world no club will take him until he see's some sense and drops his demands.

One thing no one seems to mention is why would he want to come to Liverpool, the same goes for Cavani or any other player of that quality. Imagine trying to sell the club to the player and his agent, we can't offer you the same money as City, United or Chelsea nor will we be competing with them for the Premier League. We used to be able to offer amazing fans that will back their players to the hilt, where as now we have fans that abuse our own players shattering their confidence. The once famous Anfield atmosphere has disapeared coincidentally around the same time champions league football did. Yes this is hard to hear and i'm sure plenty will disagree but it needed to be said. One other thing that needs to stop is the shamefull abuse the eds have to suffer just because they say something you don't like, really grow up some of you.

always a red

Don't buy a mercedes if you can't afford the petrol to run it.
But whatever feeling you or I have on them I didn't realize that john henery has not tweeted for six months only to say he was broke.
By no means should anyone abuse our owner's, its a discrace that the man had to walk away from his account

Hi Ed,
This is not a rumour but I would be grateful if you post please even though it may not be too palatable.
It appears to me that Liverpool are in a process of cut and mismanagement. Ian Ayre saying we can compete with anyone in Europe money wise yet stating we are changing are contract negotiation policy i.e. less wages more image/bonus incentives, should work. Rodgers suddenly realising Suarez fell over against Stoke, and will deal with it internally, why comment in the press. We have signed three players who Rodgers has worked with in the past, two might work out, one is only a squad player at best and I do not mean to be disrespectful to the player involved but FSG will hope to make money out of the Sky deal and Liverpool FC might benefit possibly.

Forget the greedy Dutch wizard Iker Muniain and Dries mertens is all I fell we need at the club these boys would certainly make a huge difference! just saying lol

Muniain is having a shockingly poor season, and would still command a huge transfer fee. Mertens would be a damn good signing. But as ed002 says, if bayern want him, i'm afraid we do not stand much of a chance.
Indian Buzzer

Muniain may be having a poor season but his talent is unquestionable he is strong and skillful also has a never give up attitude something we need in our team, a driving force along with suarez in the attacking third.

I agree that he may demand a healthy fee but not much more then Downing cost us.

Anyway it won't happen it was just wishful thinking.

what do people think about the suarez situation? I am a massive fan of him as a player and would love to see him stay for years but I can't see that. I watch a lot of barca and think he would fit in so well to their team with his work rate and skill (messi, suarez, pedro etc would be amazing even more so than it already is!)so if it is as inevitable as it seems that Luis does go I think br should bite the bullet and do it sooner rather than later 25- 30 + Tello (going to be a great player poss 8m buyout) go and get him and move on unfortunately and wish luis luck playing there you couldn't blame him !

on a side note,

People question players loyalties but I think it would be fitting to single out Lucas for praise

He has been fully commited to this club since the day he got there, he has nothing but good things to say about the club and has never demanded anything of the club

The fact that he acts like this, even after being booed by supporters shows just how priceless his loyalty is in my opinion

A true proffesional and a credit to the club.

I completely agree, it also proves why people should show a little patients sometimes.

Well said SR.

The likes of Lucas, Agger and Gerrard are the heart of LFC. They've shown time and time again their loyalty to the club. Gerrard and Agger have both had the chance to move on, but they've stuck by the club.

I understand the situation with FSG trying to be forthright with LFC and getting them to be self sustaining but the Squad is suffering again we have move on 2 more players Cole and Sahin and no replacements. Talk of Coates going as well on loan but time is ticking again and no replacement how many 20-30 year olds are going to go and just leave us with 17-19yrs olds yes they look like the business eg Sterling but I agree with SG they need showing how to do it week in week out. In FSG we trust In Brendan we Trust but does FSG have the right advisors they don't know Football themselves long term anyway. I just don't think they are getting the best advice. Brendan didn't want a DOF when he started I think its this mistake that's not helping us to get the best for LFC. Bren has limited experience himself I mean from doing it himself only seeing others doing it eg Mourinio. I am not saying a DOF is the right way forward but someone to give FSG Football knowledge and help Bren out if he has any questions. LFC has always had support for the manager, that's what the Boot room was for and it worked. What do you all say I'm slagging any one or being negative I am voicing my concern.

QuantRed

Rodgers has very specific types of footballers and skill sets that he needs to implement his footballing philosophy at Liverpool. And, like it or not, Liverpool does not have the budget to buy players that the manager didn't ask for or doesn't think he can use in his system. It makes more sense, once you decide to grow the team in the direction of a managers specific methods, that you allow that Manager to decide on what player types/skill sets that he wants/needs in the team. You are either all in or all against when you are making a change like this. Anything else is just silly.

He just smiled and winked and said watch this space, then he slipped on some ice, then none other than sneijder rushed out the front door to help him back inside. He was whispering something in cavani's ear along the lines of "be quiet he might be from the press".
Cavani was limping badly, do you think this will affect his medical eds?
Or is the whole thing just a smokescreen? Maybe they where clearing the path so ronaldo could make his way up to the house and he has a tendency to fall and badly hurt himself for several seconds.

All these speculations are ridiculous, guys we have captured our main target for this window being Sturridge. And also kept FSG happy by reducing the wage bill. Everyone is falling into the same trap where all these marquee signing names i.e Sneijder etc are being touted and giving false hope just like the pre season transfer window.....and what happened ? Nothing. So Fella's lets just get behind our squad as you are all just setting yourselves up for disapointment as per pre season . There will be no more signings

But you have to allow the fans to dream a little, that is what these transfer windows are for if you team is not where it is meant to be.

Eds and fellow reds do you think that roy evans could do a job for us as a similar role to dof? I was only 16 when he became the manager so I didn't realy appreciate how good a manager he was. Could he be persuaded by the club to take on such a role?

18 Jan 2013 13:27:14
Sneijder is coming. FSG see it as a marquee signing that will appease the fans and Brendan Rodgers and put to bed any doubts about their management of the club as they really do want to bring success to LFC. Club also hoping to appoint a UK based CEO before May.

Does his wife know....., ?

I think FSG are done trying to 'appease' the fans. Remember £35 mil that went down the swanny because we wanted a signing? They're now trying to stabilise the ship. Lets not capsize again on a whim.

ed's can you stop posting anything about sneijder unless there's something to report. that or change your url to www.wesleysneijderwetdream.com. this is out of control and it's almost to the point where it's not worth coming here. thanks {Ed002's Note - Another no win situation for the Eds, sorry. Do you think this poor weather will hinder Sneijder's move to Anfield ed ?
That's the real story today.

we are not in for sneijder. suso will be played in midfield from now on, hence the reason we let sahin go.

ince will come in, meaning either one of downing sold or assaidi will go out on loan. the hold up in the transfer is not ince or blackpool, but our need to remove downing or assaidi to make space.

unlikely: another wild card loan may take place, but looking less likely. either a mid or forward. expect a forward or mid to leave accordingly. if mid comes in, shelvey on loan or hendo out. if forward comes in, assaidi or downing out whoever is left after ince transfer.

Suso probably best suited to a number 10 role yes

Reading the posts about suarez are so embarrassing it's un real. Someone who has been nothing but a legend for Liverpool and people are turning. Absolute disgraceful supporters if our fans were actually like this outside of this page I would say we deserve to lose them players. Steven Gerard has stuck with all these years is a great caption and when his form dips people slate him. Feel ashamed! Please go support Chelsea and you can moan about the manager and be happy that their owner thinks throwing money everywhere is the answer. Most of you are a disgrace except a few of the minority fans on this page.

London red

Blindly supporting someone like Suarez during his least classy moments does not make you a proper Liverpool fan mate, sorry.

Suarez is a talnted player YES.
he alwyas give his 100% to win Yes
he is a bit chilidish Yes.
after watching thouse comments about his won act. he is a bit Stupid Yes.

We should back our players through whatever. Yeah he admitted he did which was stupid. Only because it's him though no other player would get so penalised for it it's unfair on him. I love it people moan about the loyalty of players yet we have one of the most loyal group of players in my opinion yet people on this site slate them if they have a bad game! Look up the term support.

London red

I think a key point of the Suarez interview was missed though because journalism is lazy. If he admitted to diving once, and they are all so keen to believe him, how come not one of them has mentioned that he is shockingly under protected by referees?
I know it doesn't matter in the games you win but Zat Knight's hand round the ankle last year, and the Norwich one this season. Those are just two in a long line of shocking decisions he hasn't got. Less shocking but we've seen them given agaist us this season alone... United, Arsenal, Sunderland... the list goes on.

My only point to Luis would be that admitting something is clearly not the way to behave in football. Young and Bale deny diving and that's as it should be apparently.
Suarez admits to using the words. 8 game ban. Terry there's video evidence. 4 game ban. Ferdinand puts them (re-Tweeting and saying 'classic' is an endorsement surely?) in writing. Only one of them has a case (but not a good enough one in my view) for not understanding the meaning, because only one of them doesn't have English as a first language, but that was still the guy who came off worst...

Message to Luis then, unfortunately, isn't about what he does, but what he is honest about in retrospect.
(I should point out that United and their ex's seem to be immune. Roy keane admitted to deliberately injuring a player in retrospect didn't he? Ok he'd retired but no-one banned him from management. Neville admitted diving for the Bitters and it was amusing)

Of course I don't mean this. I prefer his honesty. I'd prefer it still if he wasn't always caught up in this stuff. But he's just a young lad, making mistakes while plying his trade in massively publicised industry followed by a knee jerk loving media.

Oh and he's pretty good too...

Now that Suarez has come out and admitted to diving, so what, maybe a few more top players should do the same instead of just hiding away, lets see what their manager says to them. I don't agree with anyone diving and even swear at Suarez when he does it but he's not the only one. We got a point from that game where as others have got all 3 points for their team by doing it.
Support the team because diving is not exclusive to Liverpool.
KernowRed

To me lying is the biggest form of cheating. Atleast Suarez has been honest enough to admit, he dived while he is playing. He knows what the consequences can be, but he admitted it while he was playing not like others, who will write it in an autobiography citing that everyone does it.

Kudos to Suarez, it is people like him who give everything for what they believe in. They say things to the face and not manipulate like a crying baby we once had.

Respect for Suarez went up another notch for me. I think we should once sing it at Anfield - We want a team of Suarez.

mgz

Two things I want to say...
1. When Suarez did dive against Stoke the whole world was against him. It was as clear as day, everyone knew it was a dive, and in every news paper about how much of a diver he was and people hated him. Now a couple of months later because Suarez admits he dived the same thing happens. It's not a huge deal, everyone knew he dived against Stoke then all of a sudden everyone is going on as if they didn't know in the first place, which makes a bigger deal of it!
2. I'm sort of proud if Suarez in a way. Managers and others saying he should get a big ban, why should he? He came out and admitted he was wrong and that is what I'm proud of. Why get a ban for telling the truth when you have someone like Bale and Ashley Young who are just as bad as Suarez but don't have the nerve to admit it? They should be the ones banned, not Suarez. Everyone has dived at some time in their career, if bans are introduced, don't start with Suarez. Start from next week or next season, either way I'm proud of Suarez and am far from embarrassed by him admitting he did wrong!
Cheers,
DublinRed.

These Snieder rumours are great, it stops all the nutters spouting Torres will sign.

However someone ITK told me Kun Aguero is looking to get out and wants a move to Liverpool. Also Alonso was seen in the pound shop and he was with Tom Werner, both buying the cheap Jaffa cakes.

No he was buyin raffa cakes to butter him up to get torres on the cheap

Tom was in the pound shop looking for players to fit our new wage structure.

I like the article on the Liverpool FC website, 'Why Luis celebration has added meaning'. He explained why his trademark goal celebration of kissing his wrist is not only a tribute to his daughter - but to Anfield as well. His daughter's name is Delfina, and she was born before he moved to Liverpool. By a spooky coincidence, Delfina is an anagram of Anfield. He obviously belongs here and long may he stay!

He will not be here in 12 months unless silverware is won

Suarez should sign up for the program splash that would stop all the media getting at him, is he the only player to dive in the history of football or is it because he courts controversy, brilliant player but needs to manage image better. the club should sit him down and explain how things work.ray.3037

To these people who claim they are ITK go take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and stop making BS rumours up. Anyway a friend of mine who is ITK and he has told me that the Sneijder deal is close to being completed and that LLorente will arrive for 5 million on deadline day.

Did your friend have a long hard look at himself in the mirror? Seriously though, the staff at the club know very very little about what ges on players-wise anymore. It is all very secure and need-to-know. RED LENIN

Not a rumor but what's happening with Isco of Malaga. In the summer he was linked to everyone and now nothing. Also any interest in Ganso from Sao Paulo, I've been a massive fan of his for years {Ed001's Note - in the summer Malaga were in money trouble, that has been sorted for now and so they don't need to sell. Hence it going quiet, they can now afford to ask for top dollar.}

Eds - I think Liverpool are in for Sneijder providing they can thrash out a deal which does not go beyond their wage structure, to many coincidences:

- Gerrard voices his concern that experienced players are important
-LFC has been very quiet, no information coming out of the club. Even the Eds are struggling to find anything concrete at the moment
-Lots of publicity about Sneijder taking a possible pay cut
-Available for a cut price fee and could potentially be worth more in the future if Liverpool buy him and he performs as we know he can
-Liverpool confirm buying older/experienced players is not set in stone
-Sneijder suggests football not money is his current motivation

However, if Sneijder does lower his wage demands, a whole host of suitors will be vying for his signature. Fingers crossed....

Dirk has told him to come to us

18 Jan 2013 10:12:22
Call me a pessimist, but I have this concern that if we are in negiotions with Sniejder, that when we agree a fee and reduction in wages, the Mancs will come in with a slightly better offer at the last minute.
Media will have another field day mocking us

That's why LFC need to work quicker. Not specifically on this deal, but for transfers in general.

LFC_SA

If LFC are in for him (and it's a big if) they need to be dealing as they are, carefully, because it would be very easy to used like Gala were, i.e. as a piece of bait to get a champions league team.

Po

They did do their work quicker...they signed Sturidge at the start of the window and probably have no plans to sign anyone else....it's only everyone on here that thinks they're dragging out signing the likes of aguero!

Isnt it usually spurs these days?

Was the Sturridge deal not quick enough for you!?

Actually it was spurs that were linked with him first!

Your a pessimist

King luis

If we were in for Sneijder, but his desire was to play for a CL team, then we would be used as bait regardless of how careful and quiet we were about it, as his advisor would leak the info on Sneijders behalf!

Few point to make on wesley sneijder.

Why do they not make a statement we all know we can't pay £200000 a week but we should at least have him on par with suarez and gerrard if that doesent do it then ok. But it worrys me that the way today is world class talent are all highly paid so if we want them then we need to break bank once or teice we have people off the wage bill yes I know they don't want to now go and wack it all on one player if that's unsuccesful were in trouble again but wesley on one leg is a better player than j cole and and sahin. Why are we not willing to pay above the likes of 70000 a week these days we want to win stuff we can't attract players on that if we are not champs league then sorry but we have to attract players other ways like it or not.

Lawro on tv says a midfield 3 of gerrard lucas and enrique in mean time? Sounds rather odd a left back at midfield he is capable with range of passing and strength.

Everyone who kmows liverpool are saying this policy of youth needs to be relaxed. Jan molby, steven gerrard, ray houghton to name a few. Get players for present then in 10 years doing that we will be back competing again bigger revenues more cash for better players if people retire we can't just build on youth cause what happens is while we redevelop big teams will tempt our youngsters and were back to square one.

In all everything seems wrong in so many ways youth policy, rewarded contracts not attracting top players, lack of backing, the teams balance, owners seem stubborn on changing there style

Greetings to all on your planet.

Performance-related bonuses would work if there's a possibility that he wouldn't be up to speed. that way he can still get a top wage, he just has to earn it.

If you want my advice, listen carefully to everything Lawro says, then dismiss it in its entirety.

Nick

I'm completely fine with Liverpool being careful with salaries.

18 Jan 2013 10:39:28
Not being funny but there must be some truth in the sneijder transfer because Liverpool are not saying much bout it neither is the player. Got a feeling Liverpool are being quiet so the likes of man you or especially spurs don't try to snatch him. There's to many story's for it to be a lie!

You will saying the same thing in 2 week then spurs will snatch him.

Aaaah yes....just like when Liverpool and Gaston Ramierez kept quiet about him coming to us.

Tristan

Liverpool must be buying Messi and Ronaldo as its all quiet, and neither the club or the players are saying much, it must be top secret!

Its a massive smokescreen or it may just be really foggy outside my office!

I like other reds all over would love nothing better than to see wes.s wearing the red jersey but we don't seem to want any quality players which I find very strange under fsg is it they haven't got the money or jus not interested on bringing us back to glory I do respect and always will that they more or less saved us from doin a leeds but we need to get a few top players for now not for future because wat I see of the 21s our future is rosie JON96 YNWA does HMV going into adminastration have any effect on the charity money for JUSTICE REALLY HOPE NOT

I had wondered about the HMV money for the Justice CD as soon as I saw the news. Does anyone know about this? Or had the money mostly been moved already?

H.M.V. in Ireland still owe a cancer charity money from last year and as it stands that money will have to be written off, though this is still not certain. Not sure of the situation on mainland Britain but I would be very concerned.

What Suarez has admitted to is worse than Lance Armstrong! To achieve damage limitation FSG must get Luis on Oprah to cry and tell the world he was wrong and is just a humble family man.

Tom Werner was married to Oprah in the 80s so he can make this happen. But LFC must act quickly as LUISGATE is putting off top big names like Sniegder, Schwinestieger, and Dela tolinoasuri from joining!!

Didnt the dirty blue Neville admit to cheating when he dived against us. didn't see that all over the back pages with headlines CHEAT did we...

I genuinely feel this is part of an exit strategy

Wow, can't believe the OP got 7 disagrees .. what happened to sense of humour ....
To the second poster, Neville is different from Suarez, everything Suarez does like Bottlelily is watched, analysed and dissected .. Its unfair on them yes, but superstars have responsibilities which include above else "Keep your mouth shut"

What style is this? passing the ball to each other for f**ks sake. Liverpool have always played possession football, the difference being that we used to have a ruthless streak as well.

David

18 Jan 2013 13:41:05
Rafa didn't play posession football, neither did Woy.
Dalglishs game hardly centered around it.

The style has changed, like it or not.

Remember Mankini saying Richards couldn't play as 1 of 3 CBs? I know Richards is young but not all players can adapt to all systems and still produce their best work.

Food for thought as to why we havn't signed Sniedjer yet...

A SNEIJDER COMMENT!

The media have launched into another frenzy as the transfer window creaks in the cold. Struggling for serious in-depth news they are content to probe further into Loic Remy's "astonishing decision" to join QPR rather than Newcastle (wouldn't you want to earn 48% more from an employer than the one you're talking to now? Not an issue is it?) and the "outrageous wage demands" of Wesley Sneijder who may or may not be on Liverpool's radar.

Sneijder earns very, very big money at Milan; Balotelli and Tevez, Toure Yaya the same - so what's so outrageous about a player in his prime asking for a large salary to join another club? They can always say no - as Arsenal often do. This is simply a smokescreen to obscure the fact there's very little movement in the transfer market.

Remy to QPR is a sideshow as they will plummet along with Reading and Aston Villa; Cisse at Newcastle is heading for a major strop and at the end of this season the likelihood of David Moyes moving on increases. Jurgen Klopp (monster crowds, big investment and players to smile about) is about as likely to manage Chelsea as is Tommy Smith not sounding as bitter about the game and his old club as he seems to have been over the past few years.

Wesley Sneijder may well be an ideal player for us: Gerrard is by common consent playing too deep and both he and Sneijder are the sorts of players that surge forward and burst into the box to score. If you look at his prowess and goals over the past three years, then Sneijder might well be worth the £100,000 or so being asked for. After all, Walcott would cost not far off that in wages and he is half the player Sneijder is - and a mere five years younger.

I'm still waiting for Blackpool to grow up and complete the deal for Ince. Announcing a double signing that could well push us into the top four (the way the others are imploding helps) would bring many fans round to believing in the BR project. Project? Bit like the way mobile phones are sold these days - everything is about "the experience."

I tend to shy away from this transfer nonsense and wait until a player has signed to be truly elated. But in this case I don't want to see us frightened off by wage demands that for his experience and guile, seem reasonable (in the context of football finance!) compared to some of the lightweight players earning vast amounts from limited abilities.

Surely Sneijder wouldn't have left Inter if he had taken a wage drop, but considering the fact he hasnt played this season are there other issues between him and the club? surely he knows no club will pay £200,000 a week nowadays. and if he is willing to take a pay cut to play premier league football at least it shows he is commited to something more than money?

I don't know what to make of the wages saga....

Or maybe he knows that of the few clubs that can afford 200k p/w, none of them need him. he has to either stay where he is or take a pay cut.

18 Jan 2013 09:06:30
Personally, I think a loan to West Brom would be a good thibg for Coates. Steve Clarke will know what he's about from his time with us. West Brom play some good football and a long spell playing week in, week out would benefit Seb. It'll allow him to adapt to the physicality and pace of the EPL. I know he's been with us for about 18 months but he's hardly played in the league enough to adapt to it. Of course we should only allow that to happen if we can get someone in first.

I know the Ed's (particularly Ed002) take on the Sneijder situation. A lot has been written in the press today from numerous different journo's. James Pearce from the Echo being one. There must be some interest from us. Whether we can do a deal, still think it's unlikely. Would be a good addition, particularly after Gerrard and Suarez's call for more experienced players.

so liverpool are interested in sneijder, this is either lazy journalism on behalf of media outlets who have probably been checking this site or Liverpool have already started negotiations (probably the former) or could it just be his agent trying to get clubs interested and using Liverpools name coz that's never been done before. On the Suarez interview he admitted simulating (he never said diving) to win a penalty against an anti-football team who had been hacking him down all game, big whow everybody and their blind dog knew he threw himself to the ground on that occasion and all the media frenzy since then has proved Luis correct the name Saurez makes the headlines and sells papers notice thay never glow about him as a wonderful footballer which is what he is.

I've been looking this website for some time now and think it's great. The eds do a great job, I don't necessarily agree this but the majority of the morning papers are stating that if sneijder takes a significant paycut he will move for him again I don't believe it myself but are they all wrong. cheers

I think spurs will get him, as they normally try to steal the players Liverpool are going to sign, Its about time Spurs scouts started doing there own work

Why would sneijder take a paycut to join us, but refuse one at Inter?

I think it may have more to do with the way inter have treated him. What right do they have to hold potentially their best player to ransom in saying sign a lower wage deal or you don't play.

Perhaps they needed to talk with him and see what he wanted... If he was going anyway why not play him while you still have him?

Morning Eds & Reds!

Am guessing every red across the world is intently on every footie website trying to find out wats the latest on the Sneijder saga. Meanwhile Suarez is trying to become a better human being by admitting to his dive and in doing so is grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In recent times football clubs has become far less about the game and more of a coffee table conversation topic. Players, Wages, Management, Owners, Stadiums etc.. Where does the buck really stop?

The only reason I point this out cause we all know football is the biggest sport in the world and in the recent past its proven to be a fabulous business. But there has to be some kind of leash put on these media hounds cause it instigates the fans of a football club based on their lousy standard of journalism.

We need to have our new generation of fans more insulated than the current crop. It would ensure that in the years to come football becomes more about the game and less about the other aspects surrounding it.

Cheers
Ani

Poor suarez.. Neville admitted to diving and it was seen as honesty.. Suarez admits and they want him banned for cheating

Hi fellow Reds,
This is my first time posting, but I come on here everyday to see if there's anything new. I am surprised to see how much negativity there is toward BR, the players and anything relatively related to Liverpool and this is coming from our own supporters.

I for one believe BR has done well for the players and money that he has had available. He was left with KK flops and the players that would have worked for him (Kuyt & Rodriguez) wanted to leave. On top of that he wasn't supported as much as he would've wanted by the owners in terms of transfers. So to be only nine points off 4th place is pretty good.

Henderson, Enrique, Reina, Gerrard and Downing all had very average first halves of the season but everyone of them even Downing have been looking a lot better. I believe in terms of Enrique, Henderson and Downing it has been down to the man management skills of BR and because he wasn't afraid to criticise them. Obviously the change in form of all these players will make the team a lot better for the second half of the season.

Before the Man you game Liverpool had 15 points from 7 games which was the third best in the league behind Tottenham and the scum. For a team that's in a transition period that's a very good points return, not to mention it happened with only 3 forwards and one was 17. If we can carry on with this form especially with sturridge coming in, borini returning and any other people coming in whoever it may be, the second half of the season can and will be a very good half.

I believe that we can get top 4 especially because of all the teams above us have been inconsistent. If we can get that consistency that's been missing then we can get it. But even top 5 would be good.

We are Liverpool Football Club supporters we aren't fake supporters like other clubs have. We need to get behind our great club not criticise it and argue among ourselves. Liverpool is a great club that is on the rise and we can get that top 4. Keep faith in Brendan Rodgers and the rewards will come.

Before I started using this website I would have said all those things about our fans being the best, but unfortunately you come into contact with a lot of very negative stuff on here. With my illusions shattered I comfort myself with the fact that the silent majority of the LFC fans I meet are generally as good as they used to be - they just can't be bothered, or are too busy living lives, to come on here spreading bile. Just be glad these sites didn't exist back in the golden days, because Paisley would have been hounded out of the job after six months for not being a name and we'd have a lot less silver in the cabinet. (It's the same on every club page you visit, if that's any consolation.)

No CL from years...No CL seen in another 4-5 years...What are you expecting?..We are not newcastle fans....Liverpool only fought at the highest level...

Please stop saying we are in transition. That excuse has been used for far too long now. Apart from that - great post.

cozinoz

It was very easy being a good fan when we were winning things wasn't it, nows the time to show you're a true fan?

Po

I know the term transition has been used far too much for far to long but that's what you get when you change manager 3 times in 3 years and there styles of play there has to be some sort of transition from one style to the other.

hi eds and reds am a fan from ethiopia. I read that ed02 is trying to list players to watch out at the AFCON cup. I have one player for you to look out his name is Saladin Said, he is 24 and wears the no.7 shirt for the etiopian national team. he has talent and definitely need to be watched. ted YNWA

Liverpool to sign no more players and maybe try for a loan because our owners are arl arses. This club will stay midtable until an owner invests proper money in the team.We need action not words, one 8 million pound player as our BIG signing is pathetic. We are getting out muscled by West ham and QPR.Joke

COME ON GUYS!!! Don't you get it that Liverpool is the ONLY part in the Sneijder deal, who is NOT in a hurry. Inter needs to know where they stand, so that they know their budget to move on other players. Same with Galatasaray. Sneijder himself is surely not immune to this pressure, but so far has played hard to get towards Inter.
The more time that goes by is to Liverpools advantage, because the other parties are likely to accept a lower deal. Ayre came out yesterday and outlined our new salary focus. It was not a coincidence that it was yesterday, because they can now refer to their new policy in the Sneijder negotiations. If all plays out as it should, then this seems to have been poker at a very high level from Liverpools side. Risk is of course that we could miss him altogether, but that I am sure we are willing to live with. Good things cometh to he who waits..... :)

We are not getting Sneijder. Deal with it.

We are really missing Enrique as LWB, Johnson at his favoured RB... and our versatile future England defender Kelly as defensive cover in RB/CB.

ed's, aside from the outlandish rumours (sneijder messi torres pele etc) do we have any serious interest other than ince? it seems as though (as expected) it's shaping up to be a quiet transfer window. I know you said a loan, but who are our loan targets? {Ed002's Note - You need to read the posts - where there have been enquiries or interest shown that we know of, we have said.}

Regardless of how unlikely it is, I'd still wanna see sneijder in liverpool shirt.

knightza AU

Absolutely, I'd love him, whatever may be agreed to pay him we can obviously afford. Guy remains class and I would live to see him play for us.
FowlerisGod

I want to see Kate Moss in a Liverpool shirt...

May I summarize the transfer window?

Walcott, Sneijder, Ince, Torres, Butland in. Oh yeah, and Sturridge.

Suarez and Reina out.

Not exactly the quiet window Rodgers was preaching! Can't wait to see Torres crying in Red again. Also looking forward to Sneijder counting his cash on the bench (BR would never start him over Allen....).

2013 looking peachy {Ed002's Note - You have forgotten Lampard and Villa.}

And aguero is nailed on pending a medical

Most people here are either completely negative or completely positive. Not sure what it means for my loyalty as a fan, but I agree with most negative comments and also most positive ones. I think our beloved team has shown two faces this year, validating the good as much as the bad. I am only pointing out that everyone's opinion is correct from a certain perspective. Except the Torres rumours. They are ridiculous. He wouldn't start for a Highschool girls team anymore.

If all this talk about Sneijder being available for as little as 6.2 million plus he's willing to reduce his wages by half then I'm sorry but we cannot turn this offer down, please please buy Sneijder, at this price he's a bargain.

Just look at what RVP has done for Man Utd at the age of 29yrs and a 24 million tag. Granted RVP is a top player but I wouldn't say he's in the top 10 strikers in the world, players like Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Falcoa, Cavani, Zlatan Ibraslamthebitch, Kun Aguero, Higauin, Benzema, Robbie Fowler (Legend) are all ahead of him...

But Sneijder is a different animal he's definitely in the top 10 attacking midfielders in the world he's top 5..
Gerrard, Xavi, inesta, Alonso, Sneijder.

A midfield of

Sneijder... Lucas..Gerrard..

With a front three of

Sturridge.. Suarez... Sterling/Borini

Would be awesome,,, top 4 would be achievable.

Curled1

Of course van persie is one of the top 10 strikers around even as a liverpool fans we have to admit that! and Alonso is not an attacking midfielder at all:L your really clueless hahah

Id put Pirlo ahead of Sneijder and Alonso even though I love Alonso!

Nath

Lucas would be Busy!!

Lyndon

Not top ten? your seriously deluded, are you kidding me?

You showed you are clueless with that list of players better than RVP, astonishing!

Eds what's your view on the work of Rob Scfhneider could he be an option ? {Ed002's Note - Poor left foot.}

How about Roy Scheider?

We should get Daniel Day Lewis as well to balance it out, he has a cracking left foot.

Christie

We'd need a bigger boat

Actually just decided that kuno Becker might be a better option although he's a bit old so we will have to change his name to something that sounds younger like Santiago munez and probably use CGI to edit him into our games, but probably a better option than Rob Schneider

How about John Schneider? Would love to have a look around the General Lee and if he could bring Daisy Duke too that would keep me happy when we were playing bad!

Roy is at Melwood now, with Ken Aguero.

Please someone tell me how admitting to a dive merits being sold. Bale admitted to diving and he didn't even get media attention. It's an absolute farce. Why ask for Suarez to be sold? He's the main reason why this club is in the top half.

BthekingB

If it was not for suarez we would be in the bottom 3, but the ones who want to sell him should tell us what other world class player they would get to replace him, or another player like him, with the skill the engine on him and the goals he scores plus the assists he gives his team mates, he was big enough of a man to admit it, people should applaud him for being honest and if he would have got a pen and we won would you all say give the points back, the fact is he is not the only one who dives, but he's the only one who gets the bad press for it,

mickey b

I think the most sensible thing to have happened would have been to ban Suarez from giving ANY interviews from the time of the Vera incident. The boy cannot see that everything he says will get pounced on. The problem is an 'educated footballer' is an oxymoron - these lads do nothing and think of nothing but football from the age of 10, education goes out of the window.
Never mind any discipline from the club or any attempted sanction by the authorities, Luis has ensured that he will rarely now get ANY free kicks and will almost certainly be booked a
couple of times during the remainder of the season for 'diving'. Allowing him
access to the media was an accident waiting to happen It has happened

Puzzled

18 Jan 2013 10:12:02
Lets be fair. It's not like we needed him to admit it.

We knew full well it was a dive, so why all the hate?

I'm sure he took all this stick after the Stoke game.

WelshBoyDave

Don't watch this hand, watch this one. It's called misdirection.

17 Jan 2013 23:42:15
So Suarez doesn't score for 1 game and everyone thinks we should sell him? If he scores an hatrick against Norwich on Saturday you guys will be on here saying he's the best thing in the world and irreplaceable. You fickle fans actually drive me insane.

BthekingB

The sad truth that post is

Uzi

Define everyone, you tool. I don't know anyone who wants him gone (any true fan that is).

Joe Allen has won back possesion more than any other Liverpool FC player so far this season which is vital to how we want to play

His form has dipped a little but he's only 21

He will make you eat your words like lucas and henderson are doing

In other news Sturridge is going to be a kop ledge and borini looks hungry and added an edge when he came on

Add an eriksen in the summer (or a sneijder if the cry babies get their way) and we will slowly BUT surely get where we want

YNWA

Im sure he will come good as Lucas and Henderson did unfortunately we need to progress and Stevie G hit the nail on the head we need some players who are ready and experienced we have the youth that's the future but P.Ince and G.McAllister showed that experience players can help the young players (Stevie, Owen & Carra) with development and help them manage the expectation that is so prominent at LFC.

So Allen for now should not be involved in every game and used wisely like Sterling, Wisdom, Shelvey and Suso...

For me another attacking midfielder with experience would be a must this window!

NS

18 Jan 2013 08:50:00
joe allen on the banter page....
the ball he won back from opposition is thhe one he gaved away...

And what does Allen do with that procession?Incisive football creating chances wins games. Not crab like passing(stats

Gerrard was far from the finished article at 21, lots of people seem to forget this. If we get Aleen playing anywhere like he did for Swansea he'll be a great signing - the step up in pressure affects a lot of players. Give him time.
