18 Feb 2016 23:34:43
I know others may disagree but Coutinho should be our no.10 and Firmino out wide IMO. Coutinho would link up better and is wasted out wide (if he isn't allowed to cut in on his right he's lost) while Firmino can go insid our out and has a bit more pace.

Either way we definitely need to sort the other side, would love to have seen Ojo get a run out wide. were desperately short of pace out there and Ibe struggling. Hopefully Llalana fit again for the cup final.

19 Feb 2016 00:14:54
Yeah I disagree. I feel coutinho is better on the left, he seems a better crosser than firmino so will be more usefull there, however I would have them interchanging during a game anyway to get the best of both worlds as either can do a job in either position.
I agree the other side needs sorting so maybe a right winger in the summer as Milner or Ibe isn't really working out although I would keep Ibe as his potential is still there, just needs to be coached into the player he can be.

18 Feb 2016 23:34:16
I think we are being a bit harsh tonight on team performance. To suggest we should have walked over Augsburg is silly, and reflects recent win over Villa and not our recent form. We got a draw, and should be able to pull out a win at Anfield. I only hope the fans have similar fervour for their team that Augsburg's had.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed003's Note - first team to keep a clean sheet against them in this comp this year,positivity and all that.}

19 Feb 2016 01:36:07
It was an average performance. No more, no more less.

18 Feb 2016 23:22:59
This is just a thought but the way footy works and all the bizarre little things that seem written in the stars I can see a Liverpool v Valencia final . I know it's a long long way to go but it's the sort of thing you can see happening.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

18 Feb 2016 23:26:41
Or united Valencia?

19 Feb 2016 00:12:25
Possibly fencey . But I am thinking more along the lines of paco now at Valencia with Neville and Neville having the obvious rivalry with us . Also the ex Monday night football team of Carra for us Neville for them . I don't see the mancs doing much until the LVG stuff is over .

18 Feb 2016 22:57:47
Am I one of a minority of a majority with Ibe, I just don't see it in him? For me his decision making is poor, he struggles with beating his man 1 on 1 and on the rare occasions he does his final ball is usually a waste? I hope I turn out to be wrong and I'll support him as long as he wears the shirt regardless but he just doesn't do it for me! Would be interesting to hear others thoughts/ opinions?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

18 Feb 2016 23:45:39
He seems very predictable.

19 Feb 2016 00:03:09
I have been saying this for about a year now and always been slated here by everyone. One of our most overrated players ever.

19 Feb 2016 00:26:49
2nd season syndrome. He's going to be a great player. 😎.

19 Feb 2016 01:38:35
He is VERY predictable. Before the FB gets to him, he already shows where he's going then checks inside where the crowd is and wonders why he has no end product. I love him as a player BUT he really needs to improve or he won't play because Ojo, Canos and others are waiting.

19 Feb 2016 02:31:35
theres a fine line in what makes a player good vs his opponents. I feel doubt in ibes mind everytime he gets the ball, which instantly loses his edge he used to have. At the moment it seems he's trying to showboat (perhaps to prove a point to klopp ) even when the odds are clearly against him. He needs to focus on the teams performance and make the right decisions and stop trying to take on the world everytime he gets the ball. he's young, he will learn and will see he is being self destructive. I think any opponent realises by now that ibe will try to take on his man. Ibe needs to keep his opponent guessing instead of them being instantly prepared for what ibe is about to do. Ibe will be one of our best players, or another clubs best player. it wouldn't surprise me.

19 Feb 2016 02:53:37
I think he needs to learn to cross the ball. He's weak on crosses which means he's one dimensional and always having to take on players to get to the byline or into the box.

A few dangerous early crosses and opposition will have to get closer and shut him down quickly, opening opportunities to dribble or knock it past them, at the moment they can hang back or double up on him with relative impunity.

If markovic comes back and we sign another winger, might even be a good idea to send him on another loan into championship where he can get the game time he needs.

18 Feb 2016 21:00:49
Going through the motions, it's games like this were we should try to improve our game, pass and move but pass and move going forwards.

piss poor game.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

18 Feb 2016 22:04:33
This team has no real leader in games like these, our midfield was poor but there is no stand out presence in the team at the moment. Seems so disjointed to be able to put 6 past Villa then play like this. Not asking for another 6 but this has been our situation the whole season. Players lacking ability and intelligence.

18 Feb 2016 22:05:53
Team was jaded tonight. 3 games in a week, stuffed Villa.
Travelling to away game in Europe against a team that was playing their biggest ever game.

Avoided a banana skin, kept a clean sheet, set up for the home leg.
No dramas, no injuries, week off 😀.

18 Feb 2016 22:24:35
I suppose a draw isn't a bad result. but really disappointed that we didn't go for it more against a very average Augsburg .
Origi should have started, in my humble opinion.

18 Feb 2016 22:45:12
Didnt think much of the team tonight especially milner hendo.

18 Feb 2016 22:47:11
lets hope grucic and stewart get a chance to pair up next season. hendo / can not worthy.

18 Feb 2016 22:53:20
I think the game tonight showed mainly how poor Aston Villa were. Both teams tonight had chances in the last third but the finish of both was poor. 50/ 50 next week imo.

Even if we pass them I cannot see us win this competition, sorry. Our midfield going forward is very 'hopefull', it does not put a real pressure on defences and we are never really dominant in possesion. Our defence is also hopeful, we are quite exposed at times at times and better teams will take advantage of that.

18 Feb 2016 23:16:17
3 games in nine days, plus no one who played 90 mins plus against West Ham was really involved in the other two, bar a couple, mainly defenders. With no game for a week now, we should have put a little more into it in my eyes. Boring was the best worst for it.

18 Feb 2016 23:28:51
That was a team we should have go a result from. They are in a relegation battle n their league - it's not like we were playing Barcelona or Juventus or Midtjylland.

19 Feb 2016 01:40:10
I have never thought we would win the EL. Especially not after this perf vs one of the weaker sides in the competition.

The big question why bring back ward?

Believable4 Unbelievable3

18 Feb 2016 20:02:57
Let's face it Bogdans done so he had to be brought back I no he's not playing but that's how it goes, I've said before I reckon the next clanger or 2 by Migs and he will play him, but I'd have given him a go tonight tho.

18 Feb 2016 20:34:26
Because we can't rely on Bogdan as backup.

18 Feb 2016 21:33:57
He should of had a game tonight Imo.

19 Feb 2016 01:41:16
Isn't he cup-tied after playing for Aberdeen in the qualifying stages?

18 Feb 2016 19:44:22
Not liverpool related but is anyone watching the united game? . what are their defence doing and the manager is just sat there.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

18 Feb 2016 20:56:14
We ain't doing great either.

18 Feb 2016 23:18:05
Saw someone mention 'at least United lost' either way, we both have to win really, 1-0 will do us both, a draw (except 0-0 for us) will see us both out. If argue that Augsburg is a harder game.

18 Feb 2016 19:34:14
Unchanged team for the first time under klopp! Hoping for a decent win, team wasn't pushed at all against villa so should be fresh! Never know what you're gunna get but if Sturridge gets 60 mins I'm sure we'll create chances!

I don't want to dwell on the past but how wonderful is it that the team sheets are not being leaked anymore. Just one more reason for my man crush on Klopp stay in place. He is slowly but surely putting all the building blocks into place and I truly believe that when he assembles his own team we will be a winning force. I feel he needs another two transfer windows and we will see a genuine Klopp team around February 2017. Hopefully we can even challenge for the title next season if where in the mix during the January transfer window who knows?
Also Ed's 001/ 002 and fellow Reds, what are your thoughts on us being in the Champions League next season do you feel that it would hinder our natural evolvement as a team or do we need the experience and the revenue?

Believable4 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - it would be a bonus.}

Ilori, Sakho, Skrtel, Gomez, Lovren and Matip. 6 CB's fighting for two spots next season.

So which of the above will be moved on as surely we only need 4?

I believe it is time that we moved on Skrtel as we will still be able to make a decent return on him. Gomez showed so much promise before he got injured. Ilori, well, he still has much to prove but deserves to be given a chance. Lovren has improved but is he good enough? Sakho for me still our best all round CB and Matip joining in the summer.

For me move on Skrtel and Lovren and go out and buy a decent GK?

Believable2 Unbelievable9

18 Feb 2016 18:56:01
Move on Skrtel, Ilori and Sakho, all a liability, release Caulker, keep Lovren and Gomez who still has much to learn, Matip will come in and hopefully adapt well, but we need another solid CB also, with leadership qualities and let the four of them fight for a place.
From the three sales, I would expect a return of at least £22m.

18 Feb 2016 18:57:22
I know people seem to dislike Skrtel, including Ed001, but I think he is one of our top CBs. I think we have looked shaky in the back during his absence. Lovren and Skrtel for me.

{Ed001's Note - we looked shaky with him. Funny how people forget that when they are trying to claim an average player is suddenly not so bad just because he is not playing.}

18 Feb 2016 19:05:02
I believe that Joe Gomez will be eased in and by the end of next season will be first choice with Matip.

18 Feb 2016 19:15:03
We've looked worse without him. Can you actually argue that our defense has looked better with him out? I'm not saying he isn't an average player, but I do think he's better than Sakho, Toure, and Llori. I have never seen Matip play so I can't comment on him.

{Ed001's Note - yes I can argue that it has looked better without him, I am not sure how anyone can argue otherwise. We have conceded a lot less shots without him, it is simply down to Mignolet conceding them all that we are not doing much better.}

18 Feb 2016 19:20:05
No matter who wants to say what. Sakho is by far our best passing defender. He is made to look average because he has Moreno next to him who cannot defend and Lovren and Skrtel who have more brain farts than any other. Southampton are not missing Clyne either.

Is it not strange that the only proper interest in any of our CB's from other clubs recently has been for Sakho? Meaning that no other clubs are keen in our other CB's?

18 Feb 2016 19:40:03
Migs has been terrible all season including when Skrtel was playing. I'm not a stats guy but I just really don't think that Toure, Sakho, or Lovren are much of an improvement on Skrtel. Am I really the only one who think Skrtel belongs in the team?

{Ed001's Note - I am not a stats guy, but the fact is that Skrtel is the worst of them four defenders. He offers nothing bar a slightly threatening look. The issue is getting the others a settled run, then they will look better.}

18 Feb 2016 19:58:06
Skrtel is very good at clearing the ball and hanging onto attackers by pulling at their shirts. Do you ever see Skrtel closing the ball down?

He waits for the attacker to come to him and then makes a split decision which either pays off or doesn't. It is called being reactive instead of proactive. We need proactive defenders, not defenders who wait for the crap to hit the fan.

18 Feb 2016 20:14:13
Manahawkin red, your not the only one who thinks Skrtel should be in team, I do too and I think Sakho is terrible.
Logan, Skrtel has actually cut a lot of holding out in the pSt season.
Ex01, disagree with your views on both Skrt and Sakho, not saying Skrtel is top CH but I think he's best we've got, 2nd is all ten. Your can't blame all Sakhos deficiency a on Moreno or anybody else for that matter.

{Ed001's Note - he is simply not the best, quite the opposite.}

18 Feb 2016 22:25:03
Manahawkin, I am with you on this, I also think that Skirtle is the better player out of the 4 mentioned. I have seen no improvement since he has been out, the opposite in fact. And I don't see anything to suggest that Sakho is our best CB, my heart is in my mouth every time he has the ball. When we next play Chelsea I know who I would want to play against Costa, and it wouldn't be Sakho.

18 Feb 2016 22:48:12
Skerts is better than sakho by a country mile, sakho makes me so nervous at times.

19 Feb 2016 01:00:06
Skrtel is better with his head, but that's it, and even then at corners and set pieces he is a liability because of the shirt grabbing.

19 Feb 2016 01:48:02
Go watch the Martial goal vs us at OT where Skrtel drops so deep, he nearly ended up in the net before Martial scored, and you'll see how "great" Skrtel is. Skrtel is and has always been a poor defender. Even Carra couldn't stand the sight of him because he was a horrible partner who just did his thing and never listened, has no pace, never communicates, gets bullied a lot, the lot. I'll take his op on Skrtel over other experts on here who think making last ditch tackles for YouTube makes you a clas CB.

18 Feb 2016 16:20:41
if as expected kolo toure leaves Liverpool in the summer I thought I would post my views on him. yes he made some mistakes but that was down to being made to "play" out of defence. when he could just defend as he liked to he was great. A leader in the dressing room as well as being a positive character in the squad, and unlike his brother "where's my birthday cake"? toure, kolo has given back to the country of his birth as well as other charity events. A top man. Thank you kolo.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

18 Feb 2016 17:37:56
Seems very humble does Kolo, a polar opposite of his brother.

18 Feb 2016 18:10:54
I have never understood why everybody has given him so much flak for being a 'bad defender'.

I just remember him being an absolute beast at the start of the 2013/ 14 season, then he scored an own goal against west brom and there has been some kind of bizarre stigma ever since that he is terrible, when in fact he has barely played.

Im probably outspoken in my opinion that i think he has been a good servant and very underused, particularly when players like lovren and skrtel dissapointed for so long.

He has shown nothing but enthusiasim and in my opinion hasn't been anywhere near as dodgy as people have made out, its a shame.

18 Feb 2016 18:25:14
He is not a bad defender. He is slow and that effects the game in PL.

18 Feb 2016 18:53:03
Top lad Kolo, chuffed he got his goal against Villa. He'll be missed in the dressing room.

YNWA.

18 Feb 2016 18:58:28
sammi hyypia never had any problem with a lack of pace, mind you his reading of the game was superb. also aw kolo scored the own goal vs Fulham, it was his backpass against west brom that lead to him being unfairly maligned.

18 Feb 2016 15:46:58
Watching the CL game last night, and Nainggolan was quite simply a class apart.
If LFC are serious about adding some real quality to the midfield hairstyles, we simply cannot ignore this magnificent specimen.
There are many players we could target whose eccentric hair might warrant a squad place, but this summer has to be about improving the starting 11 haircuts, and on last nights evidence Nainggolan would walk straight into the first team.
As one wag put it on the FIFA site, even his mohican has a mohican.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

18 Feb 2016 17:41:33
Would still prefer his friend Pjanic over him, but let's be honest, neither will ever happen.

18 Feb 2016 18:53:53
We need to start producing players like this instead of buying them. That's the way forward.

18 Feb 2016 19:06:07
Pjanic is their best player in my opinion.

18 Feb 2016 11:44:05
Ed001 or knowledgeable posters, anyone watched much of Bradley dack? Is the media coverage just in light of success of delle ali, vardy etc. That have come up and done well or is he the next along this line?
Interesting age for him to come to light at 23/ 24 obviously a lot older than a youth prospect and someone that you would think is at a stage wanting to play week in week out.
So the question for debate is. is Bradley dack going to be this summer's bargain? Does he have the quality?
Should add I've seen nothing of him but supposedly from midfield 15 goals 9 assists is impressive no matter the level!

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed003's Note - Seen a bit of him being a fan of a league 1 club- attacking mid as your stats show reminds me a bit of Matt Richie as in beats a man and likes to get a shot in early, good set piece delivery.
Whether he is good enough to be a success in The Premier League is very much up for debate - I'm of the opinion maybe at a mid to lower team but that's just my opinion - oh and he needs a haircut :) .}

18 Feb 2016 15:00:05
Bad haircuts have never bothered LFC, Ed.

{Ed002's Note - Gillingham's Bradley Dack has drawn scouts from Bristol City, Newcastle, Arsenal, Brighton, Liverpool, Ipswich Town and Spurs to watch him this season. Gillingham rejected an offer from Bristol City in January. And Liverpool are definitely interested in him and he managed a couple of goals when watched a week or two back by representatives of Liverpool and Ipswich Town. It would not be a surprise to see Dickory be the target of an offer.}

18 Feb 2016 18:13:37
Wow, a completely random player someone has suggested that, as ed002 has confirmed in detail, we actually ARE interested in?

What is going on here. The end is nigh?

18 Feb 2016 18:54:48
Next thing everyone will RTFP's and the universe will implode 😄.

18 Feb 2016 19:03:06

0-3 to LFC.

18 Feb 2016 11:45:15
Ah Ron! You're better than that, has to be comfortable 5+!

18 Feb 2016 12:43:34
2-1 to Liverpool!

18 Feb 2016 12:50:52
Get on it in the bookies Ron, Liverpool to win is just over even money.

18 Feb 2016 15:31:58
You guys are foolish

It's either going to be a draw 0-0. Or 1-0

This is a very tough game for Liverpool. I hope klopp plays all the hard workers today such as Milner etc and not play Sturridge tonight
Lfc still have that second leg to play so he can play in that I just think he would be better suited for that.
Tonight lfc need to graft in order to leave with a win

For me is play origi or benteke upfront.

18 Feb 2016 15:58:33
as long as we are still in the tie when we play at anfield I will be happy. I have a feeling we will draw 1-1 tonight. difficult to know how these type of games will go.

18 Feb 2016 16:18:40
Good old lobster, definitely "chief doubter"😉.

18 Feb 2016 16:43:24
I think we will dominate posession and if couts and sturridge play we have a chance of winning the game. Not taking account of the villa game because they turned around and bent over for us so it was a false result for me. We will see what they are really made of tonight.

18 Feb 2016 18:14:32
Or we could just play our best team and kill the tie off now, and stop pussyfooting around?

18 Feb 2016 18:53:05
in that case aw I would start the same team that started vs villa, and make the subs at around the same time as the last match. It would be nice to gain some winning momentum going into the cup final. I would be happy with a win and no injuries to any of our players.

18 Feb 2016 13:49:44
Hi all
I am hoping for 0-4 to Liverpool but I think it will be 1-3.

18 Feb 2016 11:17:07
Hi Eds. A lot of the user posts about players to go in the Summer are including James Milner.

I don't disagree but would it even be possible to get rid of him? Is it true that we gave him £130k p/ w with a £6 million signing on fee?

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - it was something around that mark yes.}

18 Feb 2016 11:46:14
Wow! .

18 Feb 2016 12:24:44
The club will struggle to offload a no of players including him. There wouldn't be too many parties interested in our players. And even if they do the club will have to take a massive loss on their transfer.

18 Feb 2016 13:26:55
I'm pretty sure Milner would attract interest and at his age (and lookin at the likes of Jonjo as an example) transfer fee for someone of his caliber would have to be at least 10-15mln. If his wages would be too high for some clubs, maybe we'd just have to discount the transfer fee to make the deal attractive.

I suspect he'll stay though and fills a very useful function in certain situations, especially as someone who can provide support to an attack but also has the energy to track back to shut down a particularly dangerous opposition fullback. Just make sure you have other attackers who provide the flair and pace!

18 Feb 2016 14:37:06
Zimbo

His age is 30+ and I extremely doubt anyone would pay 10-15 mill for him.

18 Feb 2016 17:39:02
He's only just turned 30 - Google it, it's easy - and whilst i don't think we'd get the numbers quoted above I do reckon we'd get back not far off that signing on fee (if that is the correct figure) .

18 Feb 2016 13:45:35
Might he leave in summer then ed?

{Ed001's Note - it is entirely possible, nothing is set in stone right now and no one is sure of staying.}

18 Feb 2016 19:12:02
Don't suppose it really matters what we paid for them and what we are likely to get back, if the player isn't wanted/ needed by Klopp then he will be gone eventually.
If we lose a ton of money on selling say Lallana, Moreno, ballotelli etc then it's Brendan's fault and the clubs for letting him waste it.

18 Feb 2016 08:01:25
BALOTELLI: Can't the club put Balotelli up for sale to the Chinese clubs? Surely Balo would look into that with all the money on offer and media hype around the league now.

Believable13 Unbelievable8

18 Feb 2016 08:25:13
There should be an interest in the player mate. You cannot force the Chineese to buy Balotelli. Yes they have bought some players paying over the odds, But all of them had proper conduct on and off the pitch.

18 Feb 2016 09:59:46
If jelavic can go for 4 mill ish to the second division and AC Milan's buy clause is for 4 mill ish then you'd pray to god we'll get our 4 million pounds at least and be done with him ha.
I do have a funny feeling Milan might buy him and sell him to China for double the price! It'll just still be good to move on though!

18 Feb 2016 07:21:50

"Lescott Challenges Critics to meet him at the training ground" - he knows he will get there first in his £125k car ;o)

Hopefully someone deflates his tyres while he's "training".

On a note of ed001s comments about Paisley building teams: only 6 of the starting lineup of the 1977 final, featured in the 1978 final. Basically half a team, incredible in my eyes, to rebuild the best team in Europe so drastically, and win it again the following year. Well before my time, so may have missed something, but I remember reading something about it, and decided to look it up! Quite a feat.

Hi eds, just want to say that I and many others really appreciate the effort that you put into the site.

I read it regularly and have done for years still can't believe how many people ask the same questions over and over (RTFP)! And still question the validity of 'completed deals' even though you explain the reasons why they won't happen etc

You all have the patience of saints. Think I would go insane.

{Ed001's Note - I wish I really did have the patience of a saint, then I wouldn't have gone insane!}
