Can't believe all the negativity or petty bullis**t that some people have posted today. Carra is the vice captain,which means if he's on the field and Gerrard isn't he'll get the arm band. If it was Gerrard coming on as sub he would've assumed the captaincy just like Carra did. What also really pisses me off that instead of giving credit for a great performance by every single player,people go on about how s**te Villa was instead of praising us for making them look ordinary. Think we've got the perfect balance between youth and experience,and this team just gets better and better with every game. Hope we can keep the back 4 plus Reina fit. Still got best defensive record in the Prem despite the 4 goals we conceded against Spurs which goes to show how important it is to keep the best centre half partnership in the league fit. Think its the first time since 2009 that Agger has started 7 league games on the trott,let's hope he's over his injury problems now. No doubt that i think we can cope with any team we come across with our pass and move game as we've shown already. So next time we batter a team,can more credit be given to us dominating them rather then how poor they are,it happened after the ,Arsena and

One of my dogs jumpefabeandcbefore i'd finished writing my post,next thing it sent it. AS I was saying it happened after the Arsenal game were some folk were saying we only did em because they were gash.

If we win the next 3 games, wigan, blackburn and newcastle we will be very close to top 4. The problem is we have been close before only to suffer a setback due to poor finishing, I hope this time we take are chances and win all 3 games.

With regards to the window, i hope we go for Kagawa and Luuk De Jong.

Kagawa has the pace, dribbling and passing ability to win us games, is only 22 and a marketable Asian player. He is also versatile and confident young lad - hopefully he would be interested in a move, as he would certainly fit into our pass and move tactics.

De Jong is at 21 a very promising prospect that is in good form. He is more mobile and a better footballer than Carroll has been so far. He is a hard working team player that can finish well in addition to assisting and can play wide right or up front.

I hope we sign these 2 as they add quality to the starting 11, Kagawa adds pace, flair and finishing and can provide a bit of magic whilst De Jong = in form finishing ability to our front line.

-----------Reina-----------
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
-------Gerrard-Adam--------
Kagawa---Suarez----Downing
----------De Jong----------

Squad: Doni, Kelly, Coates, Carra, Aurelio, Spearing, Shelvey, Henderson, Maxi, Bellamy, Carroll, Kuyt

Why do we care that he is Asian? We don't get money from the shirt sales. Is there any benefits of getting a player in just because they are Asian? We should be going for the best players who won't upset team rhythm. I think if we just sign Jordan Rhodes then loan him back for the season then we will be fine until the Summer.

Thanks, KickingBro {Ed001's Note - you do have other merchandise other than shirts to gain money from. When AS Roma signed Hidetoshi Nakata, they released a run of polo shirts designed around his name, they sold enough to pay well over half of his transfer fee.}

Kagawa would cost a great deal more than people think, i think he'd fetch more than honda at this stage, young and obviously talented, but Dortmund surely don't need to sell at this point which will make it tough. IF we're even looking at him.

Personally I don't think Kagawa would be good enough for the EPL, then again maybe he could prove me wrong but I would look elsewhere.

HK

It's no about shirt sales having an Asian player exposes and promotes the club in the fastest growing world market. Kagawa though is first and foremost exactly the type of player we need. He is what Joe Cole should have been but never was. Hewould provide that bit of creativity that Mata does for Chelsea. {Ed002's Note - I don't think having a Japanese player will open up any of the Asian markets aside from Japan.}

Good player though, worth chasing if not a non starter

Hey lfc fans...
Yes I agree we need a striker cos maybe we need a better goal difference at the end but more importantly cos we need to kill teams off

Also do not underestimate wigan!! Its stil a very very tough game

Iv just been watching the valencia game soldado looks some player I know we have been linked with him what sort of fee would we be looking at to prise him Away not that I think valencia would want to sell him is there real interest in him from us or is it paper talk and how many other clubs are interested I would have thought a fair few thanks. Giblet

30mil MINIMUM

I think an offer of 25m and a Pepe talk would do it!!

There aren't really any good forwards out there at the moment we could go for.

18 Dec 2011 22:02:33
It's no secret that we are looking for a forward to sign in the January window- I am just watching SOLDADO (he's bagged two goals already)- I think we could get him and whilst De Jong also looks good, Soldado is a much better bet IMO. Admittedly he may be a tad more expensive but if we got him, it would signal our intent. We need to improve the squad in Jan if only cos this season looks like it's going to be the tightest yet for whose going to finish in the top 4.
Once we get the CL spot , then we will be able to attract the likes of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in the summer.

Kagawa

Who in the world actually believes Ozil is not good enough for Real Madrid, he's one of the smartest players in La Liga and will only get better. Then again, Mourinho is a complete nutbag and is just as likely to sell him.

El juego hermoso.

He hasn't been in the greatest of form and I think Jose wants Ronaldo to play just off the CF.

Chuck Norris

Agree Saldado looks amazing, but twice the
price of de Jong - is he really twice the player?

You have to pay for quality.. De Jong may turn out like Dirk Kuyt (for goals) and you may not get the return on your investment you expect whereas Soldado has shown that he can score goals at a high level. He third highest scorer behind Messi and Ronaldo who are arguably the two best players in the world.

A question for ryanthered. Did you even watch the game to-day ? You obviously did not because of that bull you posted. Both shelvey and henderson had good games. So go back under the rock you came from.(rdred)

Agree, henderson is much better towards the centre of the park

What complete tosh from that lad. We owned the mf against villa. Shelvey, Hendo an Adam all excellent.

If the league was based on the amount of times to hit the woodwork, I think we'd be top.

Good post. We would be top, bar none.

Comolli still pursuing a CB, wasn't he watching Mamadou Sakho closely in the summer? Any chance of that or one of; Hummels, Subotic, Albiol?

18 Dec 2011 20:56:53
Came on here tonight to see some of the fans eating another bit of humble pie regarding Jordan Henderson, yet he's still getting stick and not much mention of his performance today and Charlie Adam getting a little bit of criticism as well. What game were you lot watching?

Henderson and Adam ran the show today, completely bossing Petrov and Delph. In fact with the busy Xmas schedule, it's of paramount importance you do what you can and if can get away with only putting 50% of effort in then it's a bonus. Villa were truly, shockingly woeful today.

I am convinced that had we needed for Adam and Henderson to bust a gut second half and press for a goal they would have done it, time after time. They didn't need to. They coasted through the second half, as did Agger, Srktel, Enrique and Johnson.

That shouldn't detract from their performances. I was very, very impressed with Henderson. He is certainly growing into a mature, fine, top quality footballer and whilst calls that he plays within himself are justified, you can see he is getting more and more confident on the ball as he looks so much more at ease when on it.

The same should be said of Shelvey. I posted last week after his performance in the reserves verses Wigan of the difference in his demeanour and quality. Today he looked far more confident and looks like he has accepted he can be part and parcel of this squad and can contribute to it.

Downing worked hard and showed why Warnock is a poor, average defender. Suarez and Bellamy again showed they work/link better in tandem than Suarez/Carroll and the acquisition of Bellamy is proving to be a masterstroke by Dalglish and making me eat my words.

But seriously how poor were Villa? Absolutely amazed at how utterly carp they were. I will say though that the absence of Bent and Agbonlahor must have given the players a huge lift. When you spend days listening about the two main dangers and how you're going to combat them, to turn up, read their teamsheet and find both are missing is an opportunity you do not pass up, and we didn't.

The atmosphere at Villa was also dire, whilst our away support was excellent. It makes a crucial difference. So away at Wigan we will be loud and proud and at home we will be as bad as the Villa fans today. We need to sort this out.

I suppose we'll be last of the four games tonight on MOTD2, or even we'll be on after yesterday's highlight's?

Agbonlahor was suspended so I suspect we knew in advance he would be missing.

Nice post Bob.

Personally I thought Adam did have a quiet game today - don't know if he was asked to play a bit deeper than usual?

But I don't see how anyone can see this as a negative. If one of best performers so far this season can have a quiet game and yet we still comfortably win 2-0 away from home then surely this should be seen as a positive?

Only part your wrong Bob-didnt have to bust a gut to score more.Just be less careless.Goal difference can mean a lot mate,Remember 89?

I'm really really happy with the win today.

And the fact that hendo n jonjo, who are ONLY 20 n 19, had such composed perforamces was juz sweeeet.

Is this the same jonjo shelvey we had last season? Gd job, lad.:-)

I really think we need to make the next 2 months or so count. Esp the next fortnight.

ManU, Aresnal n the spuds will all be losing playess thru injury or the African cup of nations.

We will probably not have a better chance to consolidate a top 4 place.

Winning the title is not impossible but realistically, our objective is top 4.

We must take our chances when the other teams start dropping points.

Kenny n the boot room staff have done a tremendous job.

Juz the way we play the game now is so much better than it has been for a long time.

Pass and move, pass and move.

And the best thing is we're still a work in progress, so the football could get even better!:-)

All I can say is...
Long may the king reign.

Yes, its the same shelvey. young players generally improve with experience.

Man United lose: ?
Arsenal lose: Song
Tottenham lose: Adebayor and Assou-Ekotto? [not sure]

Not much of a loss to be honest - maybe Adebayor but they can buy in January or have other strikers fill in.

Thanks, Kickingbro {Ed002's Note - Adebayor is not going.}

Hasnt Adebayor retired from international football after what happened with the Togo team bus tragedy? {Ed003's Note - He had a change of heart,Togo did not qualify for the ACN finals anyhow}

Oh right. So hardly any teams are missing out. What players are going from the top 6 teams eds?

Thanks, KickingBro {Ed001's Note - the two Toure brothers should be going, United will probably lose Diouf, Drogba from Chelsea and Kalou, and Gervinho and possibly Frimpong from Arsenal. Oh and Chamakh.}

Hi eds, I didn't watch the Wigan v Chelsea game but I live right next to the Dw stadium and spoke to a few friends as they was walking home from the game, they told
Me that Kenny was at the game.

Any idea if he was just preparing for the Wigan game or was he out scouting somebody?

Ashy {Ed001's Note - as has been said multiple times, the whole management team was there to watch Wigan.}

Ashy,don't you watch MOTD?
DM {Ed001's Note - oooo thank you! I had forgotten about MOTD2 until I saw your post.}

hi ed, watching liverpool today showed how desperate we are for some signings in january. while enrique, adam and bellamy all seem to have been inspired transfers. henderson just isnt good enough and shelvey is possibly the worst player to wear a liverpool shirt since salif diao! given this, is it possible we will attempt to sign jadson after his transfer to srenal fell through. he would give a much needed boost to the midfield. also i think a striker is a necessity in january, are there any you think we have a realistic chance of signing (the torres rumours seem to be gathering steam with dalglish not ruling it out.

Cheers, RYANTHERED {Ed001's Note - you clearly aren't a good judge, Shelvey played some fantastic passes and Henderson did some good stuff too, both are young and have potential. Why don't you just try supporting our players?}

RYANTHEREDEVIL by any chance? Did you watch the game or just read the match report? "Shelvey hit high wide and not very handsome" is all you heard right? And probably no mention of henderson? Pfft.

Thanks, KickingBro

Worst post i've read today. henderson and shelvey were as key to today's performance as any other lfc player on the pitch. neither rarely gave the ball away and shelvey as kenny said after, "He's done particularly well and can be very pleased with his first start."
his full debut in the premier league, if kenny credits the boy then who's to argue. definitely not the original poster!

'RYANTHERED'

Well done for writing off the careers of the 21-year old Henderson after only 6-months at the club and the 19-year old Shelvey after his first start for the club in the Premier League. What chance have any of our players got with this kind of support?

If you cannot see the potential in either of these players than you're watching the wrong sport.

JRG

Well said Ed.

Sorry but you are an idiot! This is by far the worst post ive read on here and ive read a few ( fair play how you cope EDS) But do you actually have any clue about football?? Do us all a favour and go and watch netball.

Sorry for expressin an opinion. maybe i was wrong with henderson he is developin but he'll never be as good as gerrard. and shelvey just isnt good enough to play for liverpool, his first touch is shocking, his passing is poor and hes not very quick for a 19 year old. aand i watched every minute of the game, as i do every week thank you very much.
RYANTHERED

Ryanthered, these really are bad posts and maybe you should start supporting the team, we aren't playing that badly right now and we will only get better! How can you compare young players to Gerrard, as you must know (if you even support Liverpool) that not many players can compare to our captain!

Keith

Seriously? There is subjective thinking and then there is complete stupidity. How has Shelvey got a poor touch? How has he got poor passing? I think your analysis or reading of a game is terrible. Shelvey has played one game and you are judging him off of that? He played well! It just goes to prove that my post about people judging players on their last match is true.

Thanks, KickingBro

If I had a pound for every time I heard ED001 say 'why don't you support our players' I'd probably have enough to pay for next month's rent. If I had a pound for every time I read a positive RedTurk post (or posters in the same vein) I'd still be struggling to buy myself a McDonald's happy meal.

prem proven and possibly available strikers: bent, saha(maybe loan till the summer), agbonlahor, doyle, long, drogba, defoe, pavlyuchenko, odemwingie, owen, berba, ba. nothing you'd call 'marquee' but i wouldn't mind one or two of the above. surely some of their experience could benefit carroll also. they all know how to finish too, something we have lacked this season. possibly the only thing. cant see any of them breaking the bank either.

Tomkop7 {Ed001's Note - Bent I will give you, but the rest are either dross or injury prone or both. Except for Agbonlahor, who is not interested in leaving the team he supports and Odemingie, who has only had one half good season, which means he is far from proven}

Someone earlier asked about any tested prem strikers so thought i'd have a go. was just sayin that there is some players there that could add something to our squad for a relatively low price or until the summer on a loan deal when other targets maybe more open to a move.

Stedz, I'll hold hands up. Thought Villa would be a far sterner test. From set pieces they were found wanting. We could and should have had a number today. Got ticket for Wednesday so hope for a few then.

Nothing to hold your hands up about, Dirk. As I said earlier, I would normally have agreed with you; I'm just glad that my 'feeling' wasn't wind ;)

Ed,

How serious are the injuries to Bale, Lennon and Defoe? Do you see Tottenham/Arsenal having a good second half to the season?

I feel very strongly that we are in a position to compete for the third spot at least......

Tottenham are a club which are traditionally known to be "not very good" in the second half of the season......
I also feel that they have been very fortunate with injuries to their first 11.....
They good have good backup in Huddlestone, Sandro and Corluka but apart from them its not very deep
Bale/Modric fizzled out in the second half after a good first half last season......

The same for Arsenal as well....If RVP/Song/Walcott (of handle with care variety) get injures they will have a tough time maintaining the results though I agree they are suffering long term injuries with Wilshere and Sagna.....

We could get a good shot at the top 3 this season....

Just some thoughts but will support our team irrespective of where we finish....We have really come a long way in the past 1 year......

LiverBird {Ed002's Note - I have no idea how serious the unjuries are and there is no way to judge how they will do in the second half of the season. Momentum appears to still be with both.}

Bale "fizzled" out last season as Adam nearly broke his leg.

I think we have a very good chance of 3rd. Spurs are playing well but if you look at there fixture list the second half of the season is alot harder for them. The hard away games are us, City, Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Stoke, and Arsenal. Spurs will have to play 5 of these after xmas where as our run in is much easier with only 2 of them but we have to be more consistant against the weaker teams at home. Arsenal all depends on keepin RVP fit for a whole season somethin they havnt done for a while. Chelsea are like ur can beat anyone on the day but inconsistant and Utd to me have been poor and have been lucky against alot of teams if there luck runs out could start to drop quite a few points after xmas especially if they pick up any more injuries over a busy xmas

18 Dec 2011 19:50:21
Does anyone know what the current rules are regarding Champions League qualification if, for example, Arsenal or Chelsea were to win the tournament but finish outside of the top four?
Would England get five places next year or would the team in fourth lose out?

Redjinal {Ed001's Note - there would still be 4 places, the rules were tightened up, now it would be the reigning champions and the top 3 placed teams other than the champs.}

18 Dec 2011 19:49:31
Picture the scene, Liverpool v Newcastle, Downing cuts in from the left unleashes an unstoppable piledriver from 30 yards,, beats Tim Krul all end up and hits Demba Ba !!! It's gonna happen.

True, true.
Then when we play Everton again, beats 8 x men only to be denied on the line by their squad striker tracking back - aPOSTolos vellios.
You know it's gonna happen !

Or when we play any team and the keeper just saves all the shots.

Ed(s) are there any premier league tested known goal scorers who liverpool could realistically sign {Ed001's Note - like who? They aren't many of those at all, let alone available ones.}

Defoe,or bent all i can think of

I would say the above could be signed but neither score much or are really worth the effort, Defoe is pretty streaky(scores in bunches) and over is pretty poor imho, Bent only looks good due to Peno's,

With Carragher getting older and slow by the day and Skrtel still prone to the defensive blunder has Cmolli and Kenny highlighted a CB as a priority? Any chance of; Neven Subotic; Mats Hummels; Raul Albiol; Mamadou Sakho?

What should we do with Coates, Kelly and Wilson in that case?

LiverBird

A fan that doesnt know much about our squad...

Surprised you never mentioned agger, prone to injury too

This is how I feel about buying a new DM when Lucas will get better and we have Spearing and Coady waiting in the wings.

besides ED, how is Wilson doing... I've not heard much of him -McMenemy {Ed002's Note - I think I am missing something here I think. Wilson is part of a squad. I am sure he is doing fine and I am sure he wishes you well.}

What are you on about?

Hummels, here's a plan mate, you put up half the absolutely disgusting fee dortmund would want for him and i'm sure the owners would look into it

Have you seriously been watching Skrtel the last few games! He has become an excellent CB. Wake up lads and give him some credit.

would be 5th if hadve(and shouldve)been more clinical.Good that we won,but 5 wouldve been fairer reflection

Would be at least 3rd if we had been more clinical all season in terms of shots on target to goal ratio

If we hadnt of hit the posts 17 times , what position wud we be in now in the league standings!

I heard it was 21 times this season , the post has been hit .

Would of been 1st if we had of won all our games, get over it, shoulda woulda coulda. pbabb

True but shouldve buried them today

18 Dec 2011 18:55:44
Fantastic performance today - in that we beat a poor side away from home with minimum effort. We never looked like we would concede, scored from corners ( at last converting set plays into goals) and pushed on with some good forward play but again not clinical enough.

However this is the beginning of the weeks where fixtures come thick n fast so maybe it will stand us in good stead that we were able to win without expending all our energy.

Oh and i'd happily go all season without battering a team if we can keep getting 1 and 2-0 wins away from home.

Finally can we put a bloody plank in nets for Luis to aim for, it's freakish how many of his shots hit the woodwork. Can he speak to Rushie as I'm sure he said he used to aim for a keepers water bottle/kitbag they kept in nets to get his accuracy.

Come on you mighty reds .. and Merry Christmas.

D 2308

Our away form this season is commendable and the away support the equal of it .

Before today we had scored only 1 goal from a corner - that corner has now been turned (guffaw guffaw) .

Hopefully more improvements are on the way - goals to chances etc , etc , etc .

Hi fellow reds. I think we where good for the 1st 35 minutes of the Villa game but then lost the plot a bit towards the end of the 1 st half. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal. Downing for me is over rated so too is Henderson. Very poor crossing at times not taking his man to the touch kine or beating him and cutting in. For 20 mil I expect a lot more. Henderson needs more time. He left the defense exposed at times and that is where Villa got in a few shots at goal which lucky for us didn't go in. Bellamy is a great player but can't last the distance in a high tempo game. We need young blood on the right wing and we are screaming out for a defensive minded midfielder. Sandro from Spurs is perfect. Hard in the tackle. Not a bad passer and good engine on him also fast and has a good shot on goal. Dalglish could tempt old Harry with a 10 mil punt then all we need is a right winger who is fast,can beat a man and can cross a ball. Look how spurs labored for a win without Bale and Lennon. We need a striker as well to push on for a top 4 spot or all the hard work will be in vain!

Why not just buy a hole new squad

^^ Or even a whole one.

Theres truth in your post.But far to harsh

Have had to tell myself off this evening, found myself dissapointed after winning 0 -2, should off been 4/5 , what a difference a year makes, this time last year I would of been singing from the roof tops, Dalglish has turned this team around some of our football is pure quality, we just need to score more goals, well done team great again today !!

Our away record for last year:

P19 W5 D3 L11

Our away record so far this year:

P8 W5 D0 L3

So we have already equalled our away wins for the whole of last season. That's progress.

JRG

Only need another 3 draws and 8 losses this season and we equal it, hope Kenny can manage it, (the reserves could prob do it)

18 Dec 2011 18:36:14
Sooner rather than later Liverpool are going to absolutely batter someone. Amazing goalkeepers, bewitching woodwork and a few hollywood shots rather than a simple pass in the box - have kept LFC to respectable rather than mouthwatering scores.

You can see the Kenny influence re passing and Clarke's solid defensive work bedding in now. Next, a 10% increase in finishing and shooting - and we have the making of a very solid team that on their day can beat the best and really seriously slaughter the average.

In the next four weeks LFC will put five or six past someone.

Drew

Hopefully in the next 4 0r 5 matches

Level on points and goal difference with Arsenal, and three points behind Chelsea who are away at Spurs midweek. Every chance we'll be in the top 4 come Thurs! Just need to hit a few past Wigan to help goal difference.

I find it so frustrating that people judge players on the last game they played. Last week everyone was saying Charlie Adam was amazing. Now they are bashing him saying he isn't Liverpool quality. Get a grip and support them when they do well as a team. It is a disgrace !

Thanks, KickingBro

I always give maximum support to whoever we put on the field,but to be honest mate Adam had an absolute shocker today!

Don't know which match you were watching, but Adam was playing deep, where he had obviously been asked to play so that Shelvey could push up more. You think he had a bad game because he didn't spent the afternoon rushing into the Villa box? Why was that a shocker? Don't know if the legion of moaners noticed but we actually won today at a canter. FFS stop whining.
ND

I didn't see pepe reina in the opposition box playin' thru-balls either, he must've had a shocker also...

I've always wondered whether kenny will really ever give the kids a chance to play.

So I was pleasantly surprised to see jonjo start today.

And I have to say that he did really really well.

I'm really looking forward to some of the other kids coming thru in the near future.

Today's game has assured me that when they are ready and gd enuf, kenny will give them the chance.

Long may the king reign.

Great win, lads.

Christmas is a time of giving. Let's give wigan, blackburn and newcastle a gd mauling!

Thought with Carrol coming on Downing would switch to the left to provide crosses. Was a bit pointless playing Carrol there alone as there was no service to him and he aint the quickest to beat defenders 1v1

Trishan

Yes, i rell for caroll as he is getting nothing in term of supply.

I agree mate - can't see the point in bringing Andy on and not playing people in positions in which they can feed him - especially when he is up top on his own.

Ed, some question here.
1. Do you think we will sign a RM this window because ive heard rumours that Kuyt will be going?
2. Will be buy a striker because we only have 2. And if suarez gets injured or has a lengthy ban then we are done for.
3. Do you think there is a realistic chance of us getting Alonso back? I know its stupid. {Ed002's Note - Possibly but I don't see Kuyt leaving before the summer; Liverpool have more than two strikers, but I do expect another to join; No..}

Got to get quality striker in.ENdve

Ed is true that managers have gentleman wagers on who's club will finish higher?
I mean .. Could it be possible that (for example) Dalglish bets Rednapp that Liverpool will finish higher than spurs ( example only)?
It's not illegal if its backing your own team is it.
Anyway what's your thought Ed? {Ed002's Note - It is not illegal and it is not prevalent as far as I am aware. I don't know of any wagers involving money but am aware of a good bottle of wine of case of hard liquor changing hands of the outcome of a game. Generally gambling is very much frowned upon and players can no longer bet on their own games. One team was caught betting and influencing the results of the bet a few years ago, and whilst hushed up it did result in one particular bet being removed from the Bookmaker's lists.}

Is that time of the first throw-in Ed?

Thought Glen Johnson was absolutely fantastic today.. He has come on a bundle under Kenny, and a great win today another 9 points before the new year and i can smell that champions league place.

For some reason Glenn Johnson gets a lot of of grief on here due to the fact that they believe Martin Kelly should start instead.

Glenn Johnson has been been very reliable this season defending and going forward. Good to see someone giving him credit for once.

Well done on the win today lads.

Vinnie LFC

He is getting better with each passing game....

He is very vital to our game because our right sided midfielder, be it in 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, tends to remain narrower than the left sided midfielder. So we need Glen bombing down the right wing.....But good to see him back in form......Now that there is lesser focus on his transfer fee and with no injuries (touchwood!!), he is playing very good football.......

I hope fans have at least the same level of patience with Carroll and he wil perform well for us much quicker than that......

Thought cara shudnt hav took the captains armband as he won't be getn many games and pepe is and will be the future captain CASTER TROY YNWA

No because gerrards the captain and he will be on the bench against Wigan

Don't be petty. Carra is a legend.

But carras not the captain he's the vice captain, gerrards the captain and it's probably that type of " im ghe big i am behaviour that forced many decent players out. The gerrard/carragger mafia, well I for one am glad that it's the end of that era, were looking more like a team now than any other time I can remember for a long time and the main reason is because those two are not playing

Behave,

Carra has earned that Vice Captaincy. To strip him of it would be very disrespectful.

Rewflo

To come on with ten minutes to go when your only vice captain and take the armband off the player who has been deputising for the last 80 mins is also very disrespectful, I would of told him to h--k off

We are playing like a team because of KK and SC, nothing to do with Gerrard and Carra. Have some respect.

He didnt just take it off reina. At the start of the season each club much name a captain and vice captain. Should either of these enter the pitch premier league rules require them to take the armband from whom ever has it as the players named as captain and vice should be wearing the arm bands. He wasnt being disrepectful he was just following rules.

Rewflo that's bollox and you know it

I was sure that was correct, perhaps an ed can correct me as after researching it just now I cant find any info on this.

very good 1st half.Well done lads.Only criticism is Villa had their problems,we shouldve put them well and truely to sword.Couldve and shouldve gone above Arsenal on goal difference.And though professionally done,tad blase,and wasteful 2nd half.Overall more positives.Bit greedy at times,and players shouldve slotted others in better positions.Adam in particular(to Shelvey)Suarez guilty also.Shelvey got better and better.Hendo did well,all did(except sadly Carrol in short time,looked clueless again,im afraid)Hard period,but setting quick tempo and going at teams(with Bellamy involved)is way to go.Same again please fellas v Wigan,and then Blackburn

Looking like its between Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea for forth spot.
Man U have a massive injury list. Man City haven't the experience yet and Tottenham are due a bad patch so I think the league is still open.
Congratulations to us today

It's funny how Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are fighting for 4th when it was only a couple of years ago that these teams would garuntee a champions league.

It was only this summer I thought Chelsea and Arsenal would be garuanteed a place but now we look favorites as they are both crumbling.
Interesting what this january transfers are going to be for teams. These could be the factors of a top 4 spot.
I must say' you gotta hand it to united' they have injury issues and I wouldn't say they have a particuly good squad but they still win.
I'm loving our football under Dalglish

If we win Wigan on Wednesday and spurs draw with Chelsea on Thursday then it makes it mouthwatering 2nd half to the season

If my auntie had b@ll@cks she`d be my uncle , its all ifs and maybes , you freally are clutching at straws , you wont finish top 4 , your not that good anymore , i feel sooo proud that The mighty looserpoo are watching for THFC results ! your in our shadow now !! COYS

18 Dec 2011 16:35:06
not taking anything away from the victory but does anyone else think suarez should be more of team player, countless times this season he's opted to shoot instead of passing to a teammate in a better position

martynlfc

Agree until teams our out of sight he and adam do it every game should just pass to player in better position

Kuyt, Downing and Bellamy all do it more than Suarez so i dont agree. I think suarez should play wide in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-3 as he is caught offside far too much as the lone striker. We just need a mobile No9 with pace and accuracy and will be banging in 3+ every game.

Yeap them two annoyed me,good though all were today.Shouldve slid Shelvey in twice

When you are as good as Luis is, why not shoot? The only thing I would change is, staying on his feet. He still goes down too easy, in my opinion.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Luis was getting up very quickly today, his hands must have been green at the end.

They ae both just trying to take some initiative whilst their settling into to their long term LFC careers .

They'll work it out for the better soon enough .

1977

A player that scores at least 3 every games thats at least 114 a season. Whos is he and how much would he cost

Luis is good Blair but his shooting isnt amazing is it. He had over 50 shots and 4 goals, thats an appalling conversion rate. Skrtel conversion rate is better. Until he gets his shooting boots back he should always think of the team and take the option which has the greatest chance for a goal.

Rewflo

Let him play , let him play .... he is having fun and the team is getting better bigtime .

They all have certain areas worthy of addressing for the good of the team , they'll sort it out together soon enough .

Luis Suarez is Hoot !

1977

I agree Rewflo mate, his shooting isn't amazing. But how many points has his goals got us? What would've have happened if he did pass it, instead of shooting? All good, confident players/forwards will always be that little bit greedy and shoot instead of taking an easier option, that's what they get paid to do. That's what makes them fantastic players, so why take this from their game and change who they are?

If he scored 2 today instead of hitting the post twice, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

But Blair he did hit the post when a player was in a better position as he has done all season great player he still needs to basics right

No pleasing some people, we should sell him in January to the highest bidder. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Dont be silly Blair, I wasnt saying that he is an important member of the team. I was simply saying that if its more likely that a team mate will score then Luis (or anyone for that matter) should pass as the purpose of playing is for the team to win. If Luis had scored the two that hit the framework I would still be saying it as its always more important for anyone to score rather than Luis to score.

A key thing in football is knowing when to release the ball. Most of the time he gets it right but when he does get it wrong it usually results in a missed chance which should have been scored.

Rewflo

Glad this topic has been posted, there is a differencei. lS working with the team. KK and SC will be spring to get it right, iveno doubt at all...

ATM the back looks solid (faith payed in DA not in vain at all). Forward we are less potent, in fairness we're no better off Thant this time last year with FT, but we're £15 m in advance. Look at it another way...

£15m+ no difference; LS £23.5 major difference: £8.5 for a world wide star and the potential of AC which will come, that great business... Kk all the way

Great win today, I can't for 1 minute fathom why kenny brought carra on in midfield for the last 10 minutes, it's obvious agger an the skytleator are the 1st choice pairing now, in just showed in those 10 mins how much of a liability carra is, he should of brought Coates on given him a run out, also I would of liked Carroll to of had a full half hour with another striker. It's pointless playing him up front on his own, but the signs are very good, the teams gelling and quite frankly look frighting at times, I think with a couple of quality winter signings we will be title contenders next season, also thought shelvey played really well bear in mind he's only 19 Jaydee ynwa

It's not a case of slating him all the time, it's the fact that we're disappointed with him. As long as he's wearing the red shirt we'll all support him but we can be disappointed. I think Carroll will come good myself, he just needs confidence. I'll always support him but he does need to play better or at least get better service

Completely agree well doe jonjo great performance

This Andy Carroll hatred has to stop. He got nothing, we did not attack when he came on, just one "pathetic" ball aimed at him from Kuyt. Face it, better service and he would be a much better player. There were times when Downing and Johnson could have crossed but did not therefore not presenting Carroll with a CHANCE to SCORE or IMPOSE himself on the game. You cannot call yourself "fans" or "supporters" if you constantly slate one of OUR players, who was bought by Kenny. I am dumbfounded by how many people slate him for various reasons, when clearly he is does not possess the pace of Suarez and not the same touch, yet still people criticise him!

It is not only depressing for Andy but for all the fans that WANT to support him. All who slate Andy, disgust me.

LG.

Andy carroll CANNOT score if he is on the bench can he? we won today and put in a good performance so enjoy.

Danny

I agree. He hardly ever gets a decent cross. He certainly didnt get any today, and the passes that came across the floor to him were fired at him like shots.

Rewflo

Carroll should play from the start with Luis and while Downing is still fresh. Give Andy 45 mins, at least he will give the 4 defenders a run around.

Maybe its just me but I dont see De Jong as the answer to our striking prayers. I dont see him as any more of a clinical finisher than Suarez or Kuyt. He has the physical side and great stamina but I think he is more of a forward than a striker.

Rewflo

Agree fully Rewflo, ive never seen De jong as a good enough fit for us, we need more of a Soldado or Vargas type player to push us on, even Hunterlaar (imo) would be a better LFC fit..

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

Im not saying he is not good enough because he is a talented player. What I meant was that if we are looking for a striker then I dont think De Jong is our man. He will be an excellent replacement for Kuyt when he either leaves or hangs up his boots but he is not a poacher.

Soldado would be a good choice, although I dont think he is fully tested as he has only had 1 and half good years at Valencia. Podolski might be good also but his finishing is also not really clinical. I think given time Carroll will fil this role but he a good year or so away from it.

Hello Liverpool fans. A question from a Rangers fan here. How is Charlie Adam shaping up for the Pool, is he rated or slated for his performances so far?

Gerry The Ger

Charlie is coming along nicely, he adds a range of passing to our midfield which has been missing since Xabi Alonso. His tackling is a little bit rash, but that will get better the more he gets to know where our other players are. He is an excellent midfielder and is first name on our team sheet.
Scouse Pride

He's a good player and one of our best on the pitch so far this season

Rated by me

To put it simply he has been brilliant -McMenemy

Some fans do not think charlie is good enough as we signed him form a currently championship side. I personally think he is a very good player who gives it his all in the red shirt. I am very happy with the way he is playing.

Danny

I think he has slotted in very well. Was poor to start with and didnt look fit enough.

Since then he has shed a bit of weight and looks the part. Mostly I've been impressed with his willingness to run forward with the ball through defences, very surprising as I thought he would just be a passer.

Rewflo

He seems a lot slimmer and more mobile now compared to his Rangers days. Always knew he had talent, when he first broke into the Rangers team he looked like he was going to be a class act then he had a big dip in form and a lot of moronic fans got on his back, even booing him despite him just being a young lad at the time. He was a nervous wreck after that. Glad to see he's doing so well now, can't believe we were stupid enough to sell him for £500k.

Gerry The Ger

18 Dec 2011 16:13:11
Good result from a very average performance,we've turned an attacking midfielder in Charlie Adam into someone who passes the ball BACK MORE than Carra,and as for HENDERSON the less said the better contributed NOTHING,and must NEVER be aloud to play again,players to sell in jan, CARROLL,HENDERSON,KUYT,JOHNSON,ADAM

Anonymous poster spouting crap. Carroll & Kuyt played around 10 minutes, Adam & Johnson played well and Henderson never had a bad game. We won and kept a clean sheet as well as hitting the woodwork several times.
Scouse Pride

You are obviously not a Liverpool fan I have never read such a ridiculous summary of a game in which the boys have done the job and got 3 points from what could have been a tricky fixture.
You should stick to playing FIFA with your mates from school.No wonder it was an anonymous post.

Derek

Who are you? Clearly not a liverpool fan. Was a good performance today, just as usual wasted too many chances.

Adam was always pushing forward with the ball, might not have pinged any 30 yard passes today but his link up play was good and he was always positive. Henderson was very similar.

Rewflo

Did you actually watch the game, FOOL,

RED4lifeNOTjust4XMAS

As ed2 puts it "Troll" all the best.

KNEE JERK

I would like to reply to some of the comments above regarding MY statement on the teams performance and players who I think should go in Jan

1, I am a LFC fan and have been for the last 40 years

2, Did I watch the game? yes I did,and I have commented on what I have seen today. To those who thought Henderson had a good game today PLEASE tell me HOW,again I say he CONTRIBUTED NOTHING

Did he make ANY good forward runs- NO
Did he make any TACKLES-NO
Did he close down-NO
Did he have any shots on target-NO
Did he make ANY POSITIVE FORWARD PASSES-NO

Regarding Charlie Adam- He either passed back to Reina or passed sideways

He made 1 good forward run all game in which he should have passed to a team mate to score rather than being greedy

He got booked AGAIN

Jonjo done MORE than both of them put together

As for Carroll,he is a flop and I am by no means the only one with this opinion

Dirk, well you won't find anybody who grafts so hard for the team,
However will he get you 15 goals a season-NO,
Is he creative-NO
Has he got good ball control-NO
Can he take people on-NO

As for Glenn Johnson, He is NOT good at defending,allows too many crosses in
Doesn't have good ball control
Yes he can go forward and take people on but most of the time his end product is not good enough

I thought Bellamy,Enrique,and Jonjo all had good games with the rest mediocre against a poor Villa side

What we need is ANOTHER STRIKER to help Luis up front or give Maxi a go and also a CREATIVE MIDFIELD player or 2
We need to close down much quicker and get alot more tackles in rather than standing there looking at the opposition play,and most of all when we do go forward we should go forward as a TEAM,we play far TOO deep and allow teams to have the ball

Will we finish in the top 4 this season? with the current squad I don't think so Utd+City aside ,Arsenal,Chelsea and Spurs have better squads than we we do and above all more consistent

Alan50 {Ed003's Note - Alan, sitting deep and allowing the opposition the ball is how the away tactic was meant to work,as villa go forward make a mistake/lose the ball there is then space to attack,most teams play like this away from home,it seems to have worked a treat today.}

Only agree with needing another striker,and Carrol at moment.Rest rubbish

Don't lie. Any self-respecting Liverpool fan who has been a fan for 40 years wouldn't bash the team like this. "Old school" liverpool fans know that they should back the team no matter what. You are a liar and an idiot. Barcelona is VVVVVVVVV that way.

Thanks, KickingBro

Love watching us play, at the moment. Another fantastic performance, from the whole team. It's hard to pick a MOTM today, Downing, Luis, Hendo, Glen, Bellamy all played very well. But i'd give it to Shelvey. He was fantastic in his 1st game back, the kid could have a bright future.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ah blair, good to see you on here, why arnt you over with all your mates on the manc page? ghl

Good post, Blair. It's disappointing to see the moaners out even though we won. We've played better this season and not come away with three points so today's result is great. Two goals, no red cards, a clean sheet and some solid performances.

It would have been great to score more but we have to remember that we have a run of games coming up including Newcastle and City so why use more energy than necessary? I'm guessing this is why Kenny took Suarez off, before anyone comes on and slates him for this.

Mr Benn

I agree Blair. Good performance to day by the whole team. I would give MOTM to bellamy but jonjo was also very good.Aston villa didn't offer much attacking threat but a mentio to skrtel and agger. there turning into a great cb partnership. great defense altogether to be honest.

Danny

I wouldn't call them 'mates' on the Manc page ghl. They are more of a fan club and are loyal followers, they hang on my every word.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Agree Blair - I have been hoping that Shelvey would get a game in the 'Gerrard' role since he's been recalled and he didn't disappoint today. His passing and set-up play was great and some of his positioning was fantastic but was let down by his shooting, that will come though.

Also thought Carroll was looking really mean and lean.

JRG

If you give him a bit of space he has a gerrard style rocket shot, just his accuracy which is lacking a little. I think that will come with time.

Good result today. Clean sheet and we have finally started scoring from corners. Again we scored less than we should have but we are making progress and picking up points. When gerrard comes back I can see us scoring more goals as in shelveys position today he would have been immense. Downing was poor today it will be interesting to see how he does when sg comes back and finally our defence is WATERTIGHT even carra looked a liability when he came on just for the last 5. Bring on wigan because if we can control games like today away from home we can look for more big wins away from home.

In Kenny we trust

Downing poor, what match were you watching? Great result, but a few more goals would have helped, but I would have taken a 2-0 win before the game.

Keith

I think Kenny had obviously told the team to get their shooting boots on as everyone was willing to shoot. The only criticism (well two actually) that I have of todays is that we were a bit too eager to shoot when better options were available, and secondly our strikers (luis included) need to start hitting the target more.

That is just disrespectful nonsense - he did exactly what KK had obviously asked him to do. Sort of comment I'd expect from a bitter.

He's not being disrespectful, carra isn't the player he was in istanbul and that was 6 years ago, it's time for him to step aside, the same as big sammi did. Agger skyrtle and Coates never hoof the ball that is all carras does, his style of play has never suited Liverpool and never will, it's time to move on fella he is simply not good enough

18 Dec 2011 15:56:43
Carrol looks awful. Poor touch, lack of awareness and looks slow. I know
It's difficult coming off the bench but the lad needs a serious boost of confidence, just not sure how he is going to get it though with hardly any game time.

From what I saw he only got one cross into to him in the box and that was from Kuyt on the 92min. Downing kept cutting back...
Some players need service to perform.

dmedly

The big Geordie will come good, he needs game time.

He horribly misplaced one pass after coming on, but apart from that his passing was good and he held the ball up well. Only one cross into him and that was too high. I have every confidence that next time he plays 90 minutes he'll score

Red Ollie

18 Dec 2011 15:56:36
Good win, decent performance. More talent and composure in Shelvey's left toe than in the whole of Henderson, Downing and Carroll though. They'll forever be decent squad players, Shelvey can be something special. Always looking to create something and fearless, just what we need.

-Shane.

You mean the same Downing that tore Villa apart?
The same Henderson that hardly missed a beat?

Oh i see, you're one of those fans that look at price tags to use as a stick to beat them with.

KT!

Lo i agree about henderson, but he will always get a place a head of jonjo probably coz he cost more. i cant help but feel we blew some money in the summer.

Can't please some people, both players had great games, suarez is tooo greedy for me though.
martynlfc

KT, read again, I didn't slate any of them. No need to be so defensive and start shouting accusations at people. I said they'll forever be decent squad players, which is the truth. They're good players, had decent games, but if you can't see that Shelvey has more potential than any of them then you must be bananas!

-Shane.

I disagree Shane. I think just Henderson's (sharp) improvement already this season shows he has plenty of potential.

Rewflo

Shane
It was a sly dig at them, which was not needed.

As for Shelvey, i think he has huge potential but, like i've said once or twice he needs to work hard on his defensive game,

Also think Hendo could become a star, see more potential in him than anyone else.

KT!

Cant wait for Stevie to come back, he would have scored and setup at least 2 or 3 today!

I reckon that Macca is Steve Mcmanaman. {Ed002's Note - No, and speculation about the identities of both Macca and Ed007 is completely futile. We are not going to let on.}

Macca is our very own Stevie G!

Macca is Craig Hignet

I thought we all knew Ed007 was James Bond.

KT!

No to obvious of a name... Or is it?

Steve Mcmanaman

All the best.

Macca is clearly Peter Crouch.
You never see him post when Stoke are playing, it'sobvious.

Ed do you know who Macca is?

I think its Aldo

I reckon its either John or Steve McMahon. John is the reserves manager and Steve still has close links inside LFC. Either that or Macca is someone inside LFC or has very close links to someone inside LFC. How else would he get that info?

Ed have you met Macca in person? Oh, and can i become an ed? {Ed002's Note - No and we have a suplus of Eds at present. If you kill Ed001 and Ed007 there my be a space.}

18 Dec 2011 15:42:14
what is up with Andy, no control and an aweful stray pass, he is just not with it at all

Why haven't you posted earlier about any other players who made stray passes? Or were you just sitting there waiting to criticise him the minute he came on? Pathetic.

Mr Benn

He hasn't played regularly so its expected he will have a bad touch until he feels himself back into the routine. Give a f-ing chance.

The whole team has given a good account of themselves for 90% of the game, and we have a mis placed passes! No doubt Kenny said "Get out there son, give a good account of yourself and if you can, stick the ball in the net" before giving a bum pat as he runs on the pitch. So he comes on, mis controls it and plays it into touch. He shows no desire which to me is pathetic. I know form is temporary but he shows no desire. I watched the lad for Newcastle on many occations, both in the prem and the championship, and he is not at the races, nor does he look like he wants to be. Its my opinion the same way you have yours so rather than sit there behind your key board, let us know why i'm wrong and justify the lads position in our squad!

I saw him terrorise defences playing for Newcastle last season, including ours, which admittedly wasn't great at the time. If terrorising defences means he's not at the races then i'll be happy with that. You've written him off, despite the fact he's not has much of a chance to string together a run of games. He made a mistake today and you're on here having a go.

Johnson, Shelvey, Suarez, Bellamy and Adam all misplaced passes today but you haven't had a go at them, just Carroll, who's a much easier target because he's having a hard time of it at the moment. Sure, we're allowed to criticise but you're not giving him much of a chance.

I guess you're unhappy that he didn't score today, even though he only had one half-chance, if you could call it that (the header he couldn't reach from Kuyt's cross - shame on Andy for not being tall enough). Suarez had several chances yet failed to score but you're not having a go at him, just a player who's struggling and needs some confidence and support.

Top man you are, anonymous one, kicking our players when they're out of form and not getting a chance to prove themselves and gain form in a run of matches.

Mr Benn

So this time last season, Andy Carroll was joint top scorer in the Prem for no reason...

Clearly he has the ability you fool!

, unsigned as per.

LG.

Not to mention he clearly isn't up to it at training either, because if he was blowing them away at melwood he'd be pushing for the starting place in the team! He has been with us for 12 months now, so to mention fitness in the equation is pathetic! I know match fitness is different to training but the lad should be coming on and making us ask why is he not starting games, when he has had a start he is below poor so giving him a chance? I think he needs to start giving himself a chance!

I think you, nameless wonder, need to start giving him a chance. We won today and he had a wee cameo at the end: I'd worry for your health if he'd played and we'd drawn or lost. Can't you be happy that we won and hope that Carroll comes good or does it make you feel warm and fuzzy inside to have such a downer on a young guy trying to prove himself at a bigger club after a shaky start. Yes, he's been at the club for nearly 11 months (not 12 as you say) but remember he was out injured for several of those and we seem to play better with Suarez on his own at the moment: why change this?

Andy's chance will come, I'm sure, and I hope he takes it to help us progress. But I'll also take pleasure in his success proving you, and his many other critics, wrong.

Mr Benn

I think when Suarez is suspended and Carrol gets a run of a few games under his belt you will see a different player.

Hard to get your match sharpness when you rarely play a match.

Rewflo

Me remaining nameless has nothing to do with it, i have been a regular on the site for a couple of years, i rate Carol, as i said i watched him many many times for Newcastle, he doesn't show the same commitment for us, and he has been with us 11 (sorry 2 weeks shy of 12) months and he has yet to convince any of us as to why he is in our squad, he is a young lad and he has lost of potensial, and i pray he becomes a liverpool legend, but it would be nice to see him show any sign of wanting too, which he doesn't. Everyone barked on about them forming the new Toshack, Keegan partnership, i fail to see that even materializing. If he showed in training and on the field that he deserves to start games he would!
Shelvey comes back from loan and they say on you go lad and he plays his heart out. Suarez may have missed (hit the woodwork) on two occasions but that is hardly a comparison to Caroll. Suarez bleeds himself dry on the field week in, week out and is a constant threat. Caroll looks as if he finishes his pint, stubs his fag out and runs on for a pay day. I have seen him terrorise defenses with far more explosion, at the moment there is more fire at sea.

What everyone else is trying to say but you continually ignore, un-named blinkered one (as a name would help), is that Carroll hasn't exactly had the chance to prove himself. Yet. Maybe if he was playing week in, week out we might see him grow into his role in the team. Even if he's brilliant in training, Kenny won't change what's working fairly well at the moment.

You're showing some amount of ignorance with some of your basic football analysis. And your counting is just as terrible: Carroll arrived at the end of January, not the beginning.

Keep up the doom and gloom. We'll all keep hoping Andy gets there. Remember: YNWA. It might do you well to think of that where Carroll is concerned, rather than slagging him all the time.

Mr Benn

Actually 2 weeks short of 11 months, as he joined us on 31/01/2011. I really hope he gets a long run alongside Luis, in a 442. He has all the weapons, great in the air, and a cracking shot on him. We just need to utilize him better, with better deliveries, as our crossing is shocking.

Crossing can be poor,bar bellamy,and enrique when he gets forward

18 Dec 2011 15:33:18
We have now it the post or bar 17 times this season!

Since Suarez signed, if my memory serves me correct, has done *at least* 7 times, may even be over 10. If those had gone in he would have a similar scoring ratio to his time at Ajax.

I for one, am really enjoying this season and do expect us to be in the shake up for 4th at the end of it.

In Kenny we trust.

Now come on lads, stick another couple in and hopefully AC can come on and score to keep RedTurd quiet for a while :-)

i know i'm going to get grief for this but i think that being honest we will be lucky to come 4th. don't get me wrong, if we had just a half decent finisher we would have an extra 8 points. my point is i don't know whether it was kenny or comolli who made the decions or a bit of both but on this summer's signings, i just dont want more money wasted cos these yanks are no arabs, i think we are we at the point where the money is running out. who am i? i know nothing but i do know that apart from the bull not 1 of are signings would justify half what we paid 4 them (summer signings and caroll). i just dont understand why people are getting paid and getting wrong what i could tell ye 4 nothing, that they are average at best. its a joke. i would love 2 see the stats that i have missed. say what u want but if any1 wants 2 name 1 of our transfers i will name a better player who has gone 4 less money on less wages in there position. they played 4 b/pool and sunderland for a reason. lets not get on to the fact we paid an extra 8 mil for downing 4 the 12 we could of had him for at the boro. what did he do to justify it.

Shut the H up.

Are you watching the game?

Players don't decide the prices they're bought for.

If you're going to include Carroll then please name players who are cheaper and with better stats than:

Adam
Suarez
Enrique
Coates

Good luck.

Great 1st half.ok their not getting tight.But our movement,one touch passing=very good.Only complaint is we should have finished this.Skrtel and Agger excellent.Like how we now play ball out from back.Bellamy offers that movement creating room,on same wavelength as Suarez..Hendo done well.And Shelveys visibly grown in stature,after a nervy start.Adam silly booking,if bit harsh,though was 2nd poor challenge.no way was Bellamys a booking.Hutton jumped about 5feet.Just DONT drop deep,Reds.See them off,and may/should get goals"for"column up.Giving us some badly needed'finishing'confidence.Downing by the way seems spurred on by'their'taunts

Solid first half all round Shelvey is playing well, so is everybody else. Bellamy is amazing. Playing all over the pitch and already has both a goal and an assist, what a signing. I hope we get another 2 and keep a clean sheet as this would put us fifth for the time being at least. I hope Carroll comes on as the defensive frailty from set pieces shown by Villa would give Andy a great chance of scoring today. Keep it up reds!

Excellent lead at the break. Been frustrating since the second goal, struggling to get past half way with Villa playing so tight and chasing everything. Might be a game for Carroll (although he looked pretty happy sitting on the bench drinking red bull). He'd let us get up the pitch quicker and allow Suarez to get into the game. Adam having a bit of a dodgy game. Positive result looking nailed on though!

what did downing do wrong other than leave?

Said he was committed to Villa and they bought him when he was injured and saw him through the recuperation. The latter's not his fault but that's football fans for you. You would think the Villa fans might bear in mind the fact they got an over-inflated price for him.

eds, how are we lining up as Adam, Hendo and Shelvey are playing in midfield with Downing, Bellamy and Suarez so is it a 4-2-3-1, 4-4-3, 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 cheerz {Ed002's Note - No idea, sorry.}

Or 4-4-2 with Bellamy up top and Shelvey on the right?

Im guessing 4-3-3

I hope we play 4-4-3 as the first poster suggested. Villa would have no chance. Unless they cunningly play 4-4-4.

Doubt it shelvey is a central midfielder as is adam and henderson so i presume downing will be on the right with bellamy on the left or prehaps 442 but henderson playing with suarez?

Really interesting to see Shelvey play out of position today . It looks like a 'nice & tight' midfield .

Aston Villa 0 : 2 Liverpool

He wont be out of position if we play a 443

Someone will be pretty severely out of position if we try that...

I'm sure you meant 4 -3 -3

No because sabremetrics will not work in football and the owners and manager are intelligent enough to understand this

Chris in Tamworth

I was fairly certain Sabremetrics did work in football to a certain extent, Wenger wanting both Toures (kolo and yaya) even tho they played mhe in the initial trail games for arsenal etc. I certainly isn't as good for football as baseball, but certainly worth looking at and considering,

I am bemused at the choice some footballers make in joining teams such as Manchester City, Chelsea or even Real Madrid.

I was reading that Darren Fletcher has numerous premier league titles and a champions league under his belt. Does this make him a footballing legend. No!

Going to a team and winning medals does not make you a footballing great because most of the time you will do it by not playing football, rather you will warm the bench.

Compare Steven Gerrard to Darren Fletcher. Who is the footballing legend here? (thats a rhetorical question if any mancs are reading).

He would still be a MUFC legend . If he moved to a club like 'QPR' and had a good career , he would not be regarded as a footballing legend anyway .

LFC have had many players necessary to the clubs history that did not start every game and were there for the clubs best interests - those players are Legends in our eyes .

1977

18 Dec 2011 11:10:04
An earlier post made me think about Torres- instead of staying and trying to up his game to become an all-time legend at LFC (who he thought were unlikely to win the title within his playing career), he left to become an unpopular squad/bench player at a club he thought stood a chance of winning the title, before he got too old.

But think how many players make that choice to play at a club with a very strong squad, such as Barca or Real, or even City.
They go to the very strong clubs knowing they won't get first team footy very often, and they spend the majority of their playing career on the bench, but they do it because they want a winner's medal more than they want to play actual football.

The sad thing is that footy fans hardly get to see these players- I don't follow City much, but I'm sure we don't see Johnson plying his trade up and down the wing on a weekly basis- and so a major talent is basically limited to a bit part role.

TC

Ll the successful have there quota of first class back up , LFC's history is littered with top quality that could not play every game .

I see your point and will welcome a return to such a strong LFC squad winning Titles and Trophies .

I keep reading about Torres and that he should not have left and should have given Kenny a chance, and i agree he should have from a fan point of view
However to understand only a few things you can understand why he went to a degree
we apparently had villa-silva & alves (spelling) all ready to sign but the plug was pulled by the previous owners so he must have felt let down there- we sold Alonso and mash not to mention his two strike partners he had crouch -Keane, he had some bad injury's -a crap world cup in his terms not the team, Raffa went and we were in turmoil with a buy out, then a masterstroke of the owners appointing the greatest manager we have ever had in Roy Hodson.
Dont forget we got 50 million for a player that spent two years injured and was out of form,
He came over here to win things and play for a great club but was let down badly by the owners
Come home now son we are all fixed i for one would love to have you back.

Paul the red

Actually, when Torres left, Kenny was in the charge & the owners were the current ones.
And whilst we may well be 'fixed' as you put it, Torres is most definitely broken.

Redjinal

We're all fixed yes, but torres is far from it. do you think it was acceptable for him to jump ship when we needed him the most?

He was / could have been a great for LFC but when the chips were down he did the dirty on us.
I dunno why so many fans think he's coming back anyway. Macca said he's not, thats good enough for me.

however he was going to leave when Roy was given the job but he stayed to give it a chance and it wasn't working, a football career is short and sometimes you have to make a decision, sometimes its the wrong decision but he had to give it ago, double his wage and play for the champions i think at the time full of star players-champions league guaranteed or carry on playing with David Ngogg
No body new Suarez was going to be so good!

Anybody else got the feeling that today could be the day that the team wears their finishing boots, and we properly roll Villa over?

Stedz 11

Villa will be no roll over. They are well organised and tough to crack, especially at home. Hardly adventurous, but McLeish does not set up his teams that way. I'd take a one nil.

Dirks Engine Room

I have a sad feeling its going to be 0-0.

Normally, I would absolutely agree with you, Dirk; but I just have a feeling that we could see some goals today. Either way, I'll take any kind of win.

Stedz 11

Stedz, I'll hold hands up. Thought Villa would be a far sterner test. From set pieces they were found wanting. We could and should have had a number today. Got ticket for Wednesday so hope for a few then.

'Ed002's Note - There will be a couple of signings but we do not know who'

It was no more thn a couple of weeks ago that some Eds were suggesting we would only bring players to cover injuries and any leaving (cover for Lucas I understand).

Ed002 you seem very sure there will be a couple of additions?

Cheers

The Booter {Ed002's Note - Clearly you didn't understand. Just go back and read what was written. I have said all along that what I would expect in January is replacements for anyone leaving, cover for injury if it did not already exist and any obvious shortcomings addressed. I have suggested due to the repeated ridiculous questions that this would be one or two players. We do not know who will arrrive. We have explained who the players are that the club has shown some level of interest in. It really is near hopeless us trying to repeatedly explain this.}

I meant no offence or to cause irritation and I understand it must be frustrating to have to repeat yourselves over and over.

I do not have the time to read every post on the site and I have used the search function whenever possible but I was merely interested in your opinion.

I don't post very often but very much value the insight of you Ed002, not to mention Ed001 and of course Macca.

Read rather than participate would seem to be where you're going with this response to my 'ridiculous question'.

My apologies

The Booter {Ed002's Note - It is no offense and I was too harsh on you. Overnight, the question was left about a dozen times and some people seem to think we have the Liverpool squad list for February 1 and are holding back on telling them who is in it. Have a great day.}

'Some people seem to think we have the Liverpool squad list for February 1'

That was going to be my next question!

Thanks for the response.

The Booter {Ed002's Note - Leave an e-mail, I'll send you a copy!}

So what does Liverpools Feb 1 squad list say, Ed? :)

Torres- what I'd say is..he must of thought he'd be automatic first team choice when he arrived at Chelsea yet under two managers he's been only a squad player and nothing special to the club or fans.
His ego must be dented considering he was not only first name on a Liverpool team sheet but also loved and adored by the Liverpool fans and now he is merely just a player.

I think his head was turned after Benitez left and it has been proven money isn't better than legendary status.
Pitty he left. Pitty his head was turned to money. Pitty he burnt his bridges at Liverpool. Pitty he lost his legendary status. Pitty he diddnt give Daglish a full season.

He should of stayed and become a great.

All his choice though

Torres wasn't up to much the two seasons before for us either,glad he went,glad his ships sunk as well,just like owen..Karma always comes back and bites you in the ass.

Legendary status.. really?

Legendary.

Yes.

Don't you remember.........

I'm expecting a couple of teams above us to slip up so we must get the win to close the gap... hoping to see the same starting line-up as against QPR

Hey ED! With Bolton manager under immense pressure, do you think the Bolton job would interest raffa benitez? Bare in mind he's comfortable and settled in Merseyside so he wouldnt have to up sticks and move his family. I know the rumours of him joining City in the summer but surely Bolton would be an option should it become available.
It would be interesting to see what he can do at a less pressure club and may show his skills he had at Valencia. What's your thoughts Ed? {Ed002's Note - Obviously Bolton have a manager right now, but I suspect Benitez would want a higher profile role should the Bolton job become available.}

Maybe Benitez to Chelsea! Let's face it, Chelsea really really want a champions league medal and Benitez is as good as Mourinho in Europe. Benitez is a good manager and with the Chelsea fan against RVB right now then maybe Bentitez next Chelsea boss.

I still think he's Man City's next boss.
What do you think Ed? Your a Chelsea fan, would you have him? He may bring the best out of Torres again. {Ed002's Note - Chelsea have a manager and are in the middle of refreshing the squad. Certainly in the short-term nothing will be changing. As for personally, I don't suppose I would have objections to having RB as manager but I suspect that it will not happen. I would not be at all surprised to see him vying with Ancelotti for the PSG job, but again it depends what happens at Real Madrid this summer.}

Surely Bentitez wouldnt want to follow Mourinho again!
Then again maybe he would be better there.

The problem with Chelsea is ... Even if you get past the ego players ( those who think they are bigger than your club) then you have to contend with the owner and board buying the players they want.
Chelsea don't have a manager but a coach.
Your club go through managers for fun so there is no job security there. Who would want the job?
ED002 you'll be lucky to finish 5th this season and for that reason, plus the fact that the fans are turning, suggests to me that AVB may well soon be gone.
Theirs not that many free world class managers out there. {Ed002's Note - I would expect that Benitez would jump at the chance of the Real Madrid job if and when it becomes available. Plan is it goes to Ancelotti but as the PSG job is likely to be available soon he will be favourite for that. I am not sure which players you are referring to in respect of being bigger than the club at Cheslea and how that manifests itself. I also think that your knowledge of how players are bought and sold is lacking rather a lot of detail.}

Who wanted Torres, shevchenko, veron to name a few! Wasn't they the choice of Ambromovic rather than the managers? {Ed002's Note - No. It really is not as simple as that at all.}

My 7th-day-b4-Christmas wish today is...

Spurs to lose today

ManU to lose today

Citeh to beat the Gooners(puts us nearer to a top 4 place n ManU further away from the top)

But most of all, Pool to aeat Villa.

Any win will do but 0-3 would be nice.:-)

Chelsea and Newcastle dropped points. Hope we can capitalise on it.

Come on you Reds!

Hi eds, anyone hear the situation with 'Ken Aguero' ? heard he went AWOL, but I remember our interest from a couple seasons back, would be an absolutely brilliant signing if you ask me. It's time to stop all this torres talk, Ken Aguero is top notch

Sorry to seem stupid or not? who is this guy? {Ed002's Note - It was a joke, don't worry.}

Love the fact ken still pops up. Great player. Lol

Matty b

I remember when word first got out and we looked to be seriously interested in Ken Aguero. Good call from the OP. I would love to know where Ken is these days. Looked a real prospect!

Hi Eds, Firstly you all do such a great job and don't get the appreciation and credit you deserve. I saw before that you said Defoe could come if we made a bid but won't FSG see him as too old? we do need a clinical finisher though. Do you think Luuk De Jong is one because i don't think he is myself?
Thanks
Dale {Ed001's Note - I have never said Defoe will come! I don't see a chance in hell of us moving for him. Not good enough. I am not so sure De Jong is clinical, but he does score goals.}

18 Dec 2011 00:58:34
hi ed, is it true that liverpool are interested in signing Mesut Ozil in the january transfer window and if not who is the most likely replacement for Gerrrard in the long run? {Ed001's Note - Moussa Sissoko has already been told he is seen as the long term replacement for Gerrard.}

When do you think we might try for Sissoko, Ed? January? Summer? {Ed001's Note - probably summer I would expect.}

Henderson? shelvey?

18 Dec 2011 00:45:44
Eds I have read from somewhere that mezut ozil is not having the best of games in Madrid and mourinho is not too happy with him either. I'm not suggesting he will come to Liverpool hut do you think Madrid are willing to sell? {Ed001's Note - possibly, like Higuain he is not on good terms with Ronaldo.}
