Evening all,
My eldest son has finally reached an age where I can take him to the game. I think he would be overwhelmed at Anfield watching the first team at the minute so want to take him to some U23 games.
Does anyone know if I can buy tickets online or do I just turn up to Prenton Park for home games and then whichever ground for the away games and pay on the gate?

Cheers in advance guys, looking forward to beginning to inspire the next generation of Kopites!

As far as I know you just turn up and pay, last season it was a fiver entry, Google Jake Joe, his the academy corespondent and deals with U23 right down to U10's plus loanees, he has a Twitter account with which to get in touch with him and where he reports all the games etc.

19 Aug 2016 02:27:07
All U23 games at Prenton Park will be pay on the day. Look out for three fixtures at Anfield, also pay on the day. Arsenal on December 11 at 1pm, ManU on Jan 15 at 1pm and Spurs on Feb 5 at 1pm.

19 Aug 2016 02:42:40
Great times.

I moved to Liverpool last year and I took my son with me to watch our first match at Anfield, we even sat front row in the Kop and thought this couldn't get any better.

Unfortunately that match was against West ham and we were beaten 3-0 πŸ˜….

18 Aug 2016 23:18:41
I know you hate money questions, but is Milner the highest paid left back in the world now haha?

Believable4 Unbelievable4

19 Aug 2016 05:48:19
I'm sure Marcelo's on more.

19 Aug 2016 10:56:29
Would that make ballotelli highest paid boot washer then?

18 Aug 2016 23:11:40
What's the truth is mario leaving to join wolves? Surely it's only going to be on loan?

Believable3 Unbelievable6

19 Aug 2016 01:06:08
No he's not but I've heard it's Sampdoria and Ajax who have enquired about him.

19 Aug 2016 15:07:15
wherever he goes, it will be a loan deal, with Liverpool paying some of his huge wages . come on, who in their right mind would sign Balo .

18 Aug 2016 22:40:41
Does anyone else think it's weird that Crystal Palace are willing to pay so much money for Benteke when they could probably sign Ings for a much smaller cost.

Don't get wrong - I like Ings, a lot. But it does look like he is available for transfer if a bid is made.

I just think he is a far more hard working player, and don't understand it. Anyway, maybe it's just me.

Believable2 Unbelievable15

18 Aug 2016 22:49:45
Ings has been injured a whole year. Not many clubs would be willing to take a risk, unless it's a loan.
Benteke is pretty much ready to go and will get you goals if you play to his strengths.

18 Aug 2016 22:54:30
Not really Big Ben fits they stayle.

18 Aug 2016 23:15:56
Completely different players for a start and, if you're willing to play entirely to Benteke's strengths, he is a proven prolific goalscorer which Ings is not.

19 Aug 2016 07:45:52
Ings wouldn't be for sale anyway he HSS shown glimpse of being an able player and injury has stopped him establishing himself.

18 Aug 2016 22:19:23
Benteke to Palace for 27+5. Good deal, hope he does well barring against us. Good player in the wrong team with us.

Believable18 Unbelievable0

19 Aug 2016 01:21:41
Agree, a good deal for us but also fair given the prices in this market for a very good striker.

Wish him well (except for games against us) . Never a player that made sense as he's nothing like our style of striker, but not his fault he was signed and I felt a bit sorry for him in the end.

19 Aug 2016 10:51:27
You would have thought we would have learnt that lesson from Andy Carroll.

18 Aug 2016 22:09:51
Agreement reached with palace for benteke.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2016 21:46:25
I know we have ings origi sturridge and firmino but i would really loke to see klopp buy a striker just to see who he brings in.

Believable5 Unbelievable23

18 Aug 2016 22:22:12
Has to be a joke.

18 Aug 2016 22:32:22
"Just to see who he brings in"?

Dear god, yeah let's spend millions of pounds we don't need to just to see who it might be even though we agree we don't need one.

18 Aug 2016 22:51:17
I don't think you got what the OP was saying.

18 Aug 2016 22:55:45
Hopefully we get cl football this year and he's can sign reus or the polish st .

19 Aug 2016 05:43:46
Agreed, better get more strikers in just in case the ghost of vorinin cripples the ones we already have.

18 Aug 2016 20:23:31
If it is true Edds about Benteke being sold do you think Klopp will be buying other players, because if he doesn't buy anyone else he would not of spent anything this transfer window, wouldn't we be plus a few million this transfer as it stands if Benteke goes.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Forget the money.}

18 Aug 2016 21:19:59
Why 'forget the money' ed002? It wasn't too long since you were explaining we were on thin ice regarding FFP - or has the new tv contract improved the situation to the point where it no longer matters? Thanks. A M.

{Ed002's Note - You need to forget the money or understand it.}

18 Aug 2016 21:49:11
Unless you pay stupid money on players that don't even really want to come then it's better for the club to keep the dosh in there pockets, Arsene Wenger is taking a lot of abuse because he isn't spending stupid money on players that really don't want to come to Arsenal, foreign clubs are aware of the tv money now in England now and are taking the piss, I feel sorry for Arsene for that reason. And for LFC, if Ther isn't a left-back out ther that's good enough for us to sign then don't sign anyone just for the sake of it, even Ed001 says Ther isn't a great deal of left-backs out ther, so if it's Milner or Moreno just support them πŸ‘ rant over I think πŸ™Š lol.

18 Aug 2016 21:59:29
if we have broken even this window it makes a change considering the vast amounts that have been spent over the last few years so well done liverpool maybe even a few more to leave, balo, Alberto maybe markovic good business if all works out.

18 Aug 2016 22:56:20
If we have broken even this window then we have done really well considering the exciting players we have brought in. We haven't lost our main man like usual and got rid of the players deemed not needed. The squad looks healthy. Except for the position we're all craving to improve!

18 Aug 2016 23:02:30
Yes if you think 50million on Baloteli and Benteke 😣 joke, save the money LFC πŸ‘ youth is the way forward #MarkoGrujic.

18 Aug 2016 23:12:55
I think the squad klopp has are good enough for at least top 4 and if he can have done that while turning a profit in the transfer market that's great business.

As we saw with gotze the lure of klopp alone isn't enough, players nowadays want CL football.

My point is with the profit this year and the cash from this season coming we will be able to compete financially and I don't think many players even at the top level will say no to klopp in the CL.

18 Aug 2016 19:00:59
Reports saying a fee has been agreed with palace for benteke, he wasn't at training today either, on his way to London apparently.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

18 Aug 2016 19:07:45
Good luck to the lad shame it never worked.

18 Aug 2016 19:08:46
Good luck to him, scored some belters for LFC but never seemed to fit in to the team.
What a surprise, Pardew has changed his tune from last season's game at Selhurst.

18 Aug 2016 19:17:17
He will do well at palace. Good luck to him.

18 Aug 2016 19:25:46
Assume the add-ons have been changed from first man on Mars, winning the Tour de France and Palace winning the Champions League.

18 Aug 2016 20:31:08
I hope he does well. Still not entierly sure why he was so poor with us. He jas a lot of talent but on addition to not suit our system he lost his confidence to a frightening level.

18 Aug 2016 20:39:10
Good luck Christian, pretty please be gentle when you come to Anfield.

18 Aug 2016 16:57:06
Balotelli to United?

Really? The media are really putting that out?! AHAHA!

Believable4 Unbelievable9

18 Aug 2016 17:08:43
Just to cover myself, I've no idea which paper this has come from, but it's on SSN at the minute.

"Top stories from the back pages of Wednesday's papers, as Mario Balotelli is linked with a sensational move to Manchester United. "

Is what it reads.

18 Aug 2016 17:31:47
If its an option, can someone drive him there? Ibra and Mario in same dressing room can surely only end in tears.

18 Aug 2016 19:10:36
Mourinho, Zlatan and Mario in the same dressing room πŸ˜‚.

18 Aug 2016 20:54:32
why would he drop down a level .

18 Aug 2016 21:33:13
Wasn't they all together at inter?

18 Aug 2016 16:44:57
Klopp has come out full throttle to defend Moreno. While many of us including me are worried about the left back situation, Klopp's Moreno stance is either quite admirable, or just complete foolhardy on the other extreme.
Either way, if Moreno doesn't get better with such full-blooded suppprt, I wonder if he ever will. We'll see. Saturday will give us an indication where Klopp's heart really is. Stick with Moreno or play Milner?

Believable4 Unbelievable4

18 Aug 2016 17:21:37
He'll play Milner if fit. Of course he'll defend his players. What's the use of a public vilification. It only serves to make Klopp, and the club look stupid and puts the lads nose out of joint. We all know he's not the answer. A time out might do him good. And Klopp was right, yeah he gave the penalty away but Lallana (Klopp didn't mention names) lost the ball in an important area. He is rash and his positioning is crap at times but he shouldn't be publicly flogged for his actions. He just needs to start learning from them and maybe a time out will help that.

18 Aug 2016 17:02:14
Surely he is doing what he should do and defending one of his players who is getting slagged off left right and centre. He's not exactly going to join by throwing his own kicks and punches is he? I feel sorry for the lad, he's not the best at defending but if he goes anywhere near social media he will know exactly what all the supporters of his own team think of him. He needs support if he is going to improve. I'm not convinced he wouldn't make a good attacking player.

18 Aug 2016 18:43:37
Or just maybe he's supporting a Liverpool player while he plays for Liverpool like us as fans should. He may not have a future here, may not be good enough or make too many mistakes but at the end of the day while he's here he's a red.
Many players are deemed not of the quality required but constant abuse of said players is unnecessary and disrespectful. We all have opinions but there's also a respectful way of presenting it.

18 Aug 2016 19:01:10
We saw him do the same exact thing last year with Mignolet, remember? So I wouldn't place too much importance to it. He's just trying to deflect all criticism away from the players, as Mourinho routinely does. Just last week he said the team played badly because it was his fault in celebrating too early after getting to 4-1 against Arsenal. Again, pure deflection exercise.

18 Aug 2016 19:11:31
As long as he doesn't give Moreno a five year new contract like he did with Migs 😑.

18 Aug 2016 19:52:55
Klopp is doing what a good man-manager should. Acknowledging there is something less than perfect, whilst defending his man.
How refreshing that we'receive not getting meaningless platitudes.

18 Aug 2016 20:01:33
Klopp has proven he'll publically criticise players he doesn't believe are pulling their weight (Sturridge injury dig, and pretty sure he said something about Benteke's efforts last season), but I doubt very much he'll ever come out and lay into someone for having a bad game.

Don't think it means Moreno's first on the teamsheet, but he's still a Liverpool player, and the manager obviously feels he should be supported. at least in public, who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

18 Aug 2016 21:01:26
He'll play Moreno. Moreno is his first-choice. And he "don't care what you think. " I love this guy. Glad to see him defending LFC players' from abuse. Treatment of Moreno has been pretty shameful in some quarters.

Terrible 'support' - hammering players for making mistakes. Only from a minority thankfully.

17 Aug 2016 23:09:00
Hi eds, I'm starting my dissertation this year aiming to look into the barriers that exist within English football with regards to ethnic minorities attaining managerial positions and panel positions within the FA and other smaller footballing organisations. I was hoping, with your vast footballing knowledge, you would be able to point me in the direction of some relevant literature or other similar topics.

Any response would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Send in an email address for me JC and I will deal with it when I get back to the office tomorrow.}

18 Aug 2016 20:04:45
Good choice! I did my dissertation on "discrimination within the accounting profession", very interesting researching it, and had so much material at the end I ended up writing a 30,000 word beezer!

Good luck with it JC, and if you remember in a years time, and once it's all submitted and marked, see if you can post a link to it because I for one would like to read it.

Hi,

can anybody (Eds, Square Tomato? ) Update me on Gomez fitness?

I look forward to seeing the lad back on the field.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

18 Aug 2016 16:00:15
I heard this morning that there was good news on four senior players, but Joe Gomez foot injury is not healing as fast as they thought, so I don't expect him back to full training soon .

18 Aug 2016 14:46:33
Hate to say it, and perhaps I am a glass half empty fan? But I am more worried about the Burnley game than I was about Arsenal. This is where we get to see if consistency will be an issue again.

Believable4 Unbelievable12

18 Aug 2016 15:06:54
I sort of get your point, but we'll only know in 2-3 month's time. I'll take a scruffy 3 points now.

18 Aug 2016 15:37:58
Burnley will park the bus unlike Arsenal so it will be a completely different challenge for LFC.
Score early and it will be a massacre otherwise it could be a frustrating affair.
Ultimately 3 points for LFC 99 times out of 100.

18 Aug 2016 16:35:19
I disagree. Burnley will play a good game and won't necessarily pack the bus. It is for us to be patient and not lose our shape. What will be more interesting is how Klopp adjusts the formation with Mane out injured. Will he bring in Can and play Lallana in Mane's position in a 4-2-3-1? Will he instead bring in Origi? Then you have Danny Ings who no doubt would like to be involved against his former team. All that would be nice to watch. Also, will he stick to Moreno or go with Milner?

With the attacking options we have, we'll have ourselves to blame, not Burnley's tactics, if we don't win.

18 Aug 2016 16:44:16
Unless burnley score 4 they we get beat πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜€.

18 Aug 2016 18:00:53
Wouldnt get to cocky tbh its another day and we are not sure which lfc will turn up.

18 Aug 2016 14:21:50
Hey ed001. What would you say the best signing we have made In the past 15 years is? Torres? Suarez? Klopp? Alonso? Mignolet? (Dalglish in the dugout may have had the potential. We really bugged that one up) .

Gotta say, it's early to say it, but I can't really explain how big of a refreshment having Klopp in the dugout is. Klopp for me is the biggest one.

Don't say Rodgers either Ed I know how much you miss him 😏.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - Xabi Alonso was genuinely world class and we never replaced him. Klopp will be the one who takes it in time.}

18 Aug 2016 14:54:54
Alonso is the best player to have played for Liverpool in the premier league era. Only just. Suarez, Fowler, Owen, Gerrard and Torres were all the best in their positions in world football at some point. Owen one of the only Premier league players to have won the Balon D'or.

Alonso plays one of the most thankless positions in the world though and does it better than any other player in modern football history. Very few players win the CL at 3 different clubs. He was the mainstay in the Spain midfield across their years of international dominance. A very special player. The one that got away for sure.

18 Aug 2016 14:55:12
I loved Alonso. Such a classy player. Great positional sense and his range of passing was too draw. I'm so pleased he's done well at Madrid and Bayern after leaving.

18 Aug 2016 15:17:53
Totally agree with Ed, Xavi was the best and worst transfer in the last 15 years ( Best In, Worst out )

I think Stewart will prove to be a very good transfer, especially for a free .

Klopp was actually an amazing transfer, especially when you consider how bad we are in general at conducting our transfer business.

When you look at the transfers over the last 15 years its not always great reading .

Kobi.

18 Aug 2016 16:32:06
Remember going to a Liverpool v Arsenal game under the lights a few years back. We won 1-0 Garcia with a last minute winner. anyways, Alonso was unreal that night got took off with 15 left and it was crazy the difference in the game. Never had a man within 10 yards of him had time and space constantly. sign of a world class players when he can create space in a packed pitch.

18 Aug 2016 17:34:35
It's Xabi, kobi.

- Krishna.

18 Aug 2016 18:20:52
Have to agree with Ed001 here. Alonso was probably the most naturally talented midfielder I've ever seen at LFC. Made the game look easy, a real class act. I was gutted when he left, and as pointed out above we've never quite filled his boots.

18 Aug 2016 19:37:12
Alonso is and probably always will be in my opinion the best player to ever play for Liverpool.

18 Aug 2016 19:57:20
Brave words Chubney.

18 Aug 2016 20:34:39
Love alonso he was superb but pretty sure he never won champions league at Bayern he did for us and Madrid.

18 Aug 2016 20:46:10
Agreed, Xabi for me.

18 Aug 2016 21:41:11
Alonso legend was cheap enough aswell absolute bargain Rafa't showed his stupidity by not building around him and trying to sell him

Personally Mash Alonso and Stevie

We're up there with the best in the world.

18 Aug 2016 22:45:12
My favourite ever player - an impeccable midfielder.

18 Aug 2016 22:13:04
MK Scouser.
I always look forward to your insightful and well worded comments.
I think Alonso may have only won it with 2 clubs. Was nt he suspended fir the Munich Final. Seedoef has won it with 3.

On another point, I remember trying to explain after one of Alonsos' many fantastic performances how Alonso was a better " Footballer" than Gerrard but for Liverpool Gerrard was the better player. I am not going to start a debate on this but I believe certain fans amongst you would understand were I was coming from.

Just like I was explaining to some of my more unfortunate everton friends how Williams is a better Defender than Stones but Stones is a better player.
On Sats game. No idea were Ron Keague is coming from saying Burnley will park the bus. He does realise this game got re arranged and is away from home or is Ron not aware of that massive new stand of ours.
Shame about The Beatles splitting up eh Ron!

18 Aug 2016 23:52:31
what a strange post mickey πŸ€”

You obviously don't think Burnley will park the bus because they're at home. We will find out on Saturday.

19 Aug 2016 00:02:14
I'd just like to point out for the benefit of mickeyboy Burnley's last 10 home games have yielded 7 clean sheets and 3 goals conceded.

18 Aug 2016 13:11:13
Eds, a question if i may, was reading a post earlier regarding Grujic and him having to play or risk losing his work permit.

My question is, how many games/ minutes does a player need to play to keep their work permit? Is it measured on games played or mins played?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - No, Grujic does not qualify for a work permit but the club has put forward an argument that he will be regular member of the first team this year. If he isn't the club know he will lose it.}

18 Aug 2016 13:25:14
Ah ok, makes sense, think i misinterpreted the original post! Thanks.

18 Aug 2016 13:02:54
Hi Eds, Just saw where Jay Spearing played and scored last night, assume the payment issue must have been resolved. Good to see him getting on with his career.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

18 Aug 2016 13:41:08
There should have been no payment issue. The club handled this quite disgracefully.

18 Aug 2016 16:03:48
Think he scored in the first League game also .

18 Aug 2016 12:18:01
Hi Eds,

You've noted that the club are happy to move Sakho on and also that they expect to see their investment returned, are there any clubs in particular which are both actively looking for a new CB and are also happy to spend Β£15m+? The pound is very weak at the moment so he's probably more attractive to foreign clubs than he would otherwise have been, you mentioned Besiktas but I can't see them having the cash for him?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - The situation is as explained.}

18 Aug 2016 16:49:27
Arsenal?

18 Aug 2016 12:33:10
Jurgen says Mane's shoulder injury is not too serious and he won't be out for long. Good news. With Milner, Ings and Gomez back and Karius a cppl of weeks away we are relatively injury-free or have i missed someone?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

18 Aug 2016 12:39:31
Anything on Sturridge Annie?
Thanks for that news πŸ‘.

18 Aug 2016 12:45:03
Ojo.

And Karius isn't back till October.

Tell then atleast Sturridge will get injuered :p.

18 Aug 2016 13:02:23
I got that from the first part of the presser. In the second part, Klopp addressed all the other injuries in the squad (so i'm guessing he ducked out halfway through to visit this site and read this post) . Cheers Jurgen.

18 Aug 2016 13:40:09
If notice we're usually top of the PhysioRoom table! :- (

18 Aug 2016 16:08:09
Annie, think Gomez will be out for another few weeks, maybe back same time as our new goalie Karius, who I rate highly . Hope Mane is back for the game next week, Sturridge can make a good impact on sat.

{Ed002's Note - That is not what the club has said.}

18 Aug 2016 22:42:07
Lucas, sakho, ojo, matip, sturridge, all recovering from injuries!

18 Aug 2016 12:24:03
BBC sport announcing that Riise is coming out of retirement.

Just saying.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

18 Aug 2016 13:03:02
Wasnt he plaing in the Indian league?

18 Aug 2016 13:27:52
He already retired after playing in one of the Scandinavian leagues which was after playing in the Indian league.

18 Aug 2016 17:30:40
Poor Riise. He seems to miss the limelight. He's always on social media looking for attention. Most ex-pros take up golf. But the sight of golf-clubs gives him night-terrors.

18 Aug 2016 17:31:48
I bet he can still belt one from 35 yards.

18 Aug 2016 20:29:25
Bass brilliant mate love it.

18 Aug 2016 08:58:51
Klopp is using Milner to solve a (hopefully) short term left back problem. But I wonder if in the back of Klopps mind does he also want to see if Milner can adapt to being a full back. He likes and trusts Milner but the way his midfield is evolving Milner might not get game time in midfield. However if he can play full back it wouldn't surprise me if Klopp hopes he could be a future right back.
Milner looks like a full back, we'll see if he can play there I guess.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

18 Aug 2016 09:24:31
Klopp is probably thinking Joe Gomez as the first choice left back during the course of this season.

He's using millner and moreno as back up and doesn't want to bring in anyone that would affect joe gomezs growth.

Has to be that.

18 Aug 2016 09:40:32
I think Milner could have been/ could be a great fullback. Has many of the attributes you want in defense and attack from a full back. Not the ideal solution, maybe, but not ridiculous.

18 Aug 2016 09:47:27
From what Square Tomato has said though, Joe Gomez is regarded as a centre back and was told he would be 4th choice this year, albeit that was before Klavan signed.

18 Aug 2016 13:30:28
Gomez will not be a LB as that has already been explained. If he was seen as a LB, why did we try signing a true LB in Chilwell? That makes no sense. Gomez will struggle as a LB as he doesn`t have the tools to play there long term. The tools he has are for the CB position and that is where he should play and not be shoe-horned into a position where we all know he will struggle and eventually fail, longterm.

18 Aug 2016 14:58:20
Whilst I agree Gomez was bought as a CB and should play there, he did a good job at LB considering his age and experience. In that respect he could still develop into a LB. Players can switch positions it's not set in stone, he has the physical tools it's only his attacking prowess that is debatable for me. I'd rather him play and get game time than Moreno or Milner but that's just me :-)

18 Aug 2016 15:00:42
We just need to identify the right left back and buy him. If he's not available now then happy to wait. All the clubs will be upping their prices to us as they know we need one. There are stop gaps available until then.

18 Aug 2016 16:55:47
While we're at it why don't we throw Milner in goal too? Some of the tripe I read hahaha thanks.

18 Aug 2016 17:55:38
The right left back? My head is spinning!

18 Aug 2016 08:28:37
Hi ed, just imagine if we would have got a lb over the line early in the transfer window, you could have had a nice little break from this site lol, only joking I know it would have still kept you busy! πŸ˜ƒ.

It would just be full of Arda Turan rumours again.

Morning redmen,

The football is coming thick and fast at the moment!
Here's a mid week loan update.

Ryan Kent played the full 90 and appears to of established himself in the starting 11 as Barnsley beat qpr 3-2 thanks to a last minute winner.

Danny ward helped Huddersfield to a 1-1 draw away to villa.
Villa had 15 shots in the game so by all accounts ward was kept busy.

Bogdan had a much quieter night against Birmingham with not much to do other than a booking and picking the ball out his net.
Wigan went on to salvage a 1-1 draw equalising in the last minute.

Two early goals helped Morecambe beat Portsmouth 2-0. Jack Dunn played for the first 60 minutes.

And Ryan Fulton kept his first clean sheet of the season helping chesterfield up to second as they beat Walsall 2-0.

And there's your lot.

Spot on as ever, Carra!

18 Aug 2016 09:52:09
Bogdan conceded a penalty, saved it, but they scored from the rebound I believe.

18 Aug 2016 10:19:00
Ryan Kent was voted man of the match.

18 Aug 2016 12:18:15
Nice one Carra la.

18 Aug 2016 12:20:02
Bogdan did a Bogdan and completely took a player out in the box.

Saved the pen but couldn't get the rebound.

18 Aug 2016 12:21:04
I know that the guy who was covering Barnsley on Sky Sports Special was singing Kent's praises.

18 Aug 2016 01:55:44
Klavan looks to be a good signing. And lovren is still for me a good player who is improving. The problem is, where does that leave new guy Matip? New league, new team, you don't exactly start to mesh with the team by sitting on the bench!

We are very deep except on the wings. So many players I wanna see get good game time. It hasn't felt like we were this deep in a long time.

Seems like he hasn't really had a chance to gain form or mound properly in his position, with the few little injuries he's had. I think he'll be first choice by October.

18 Aug 2016 03:13:53
I'd try Lovren and Matip in the middle and Klavan on the left. He couldn't do worse than Moreno .

18 Aug 2016 06:30:42
There is reason y klopp nit playing klavan lb. He wans moreno to attack.

{Ed001's Note - or it could be because Klavan is so good at centre back..... Moreno will be replaced by Milner when he is fit.}

18 Aug 2016 06:33:52
Klavan has said himself that he hasn't played at LB for over 5-6 years, so it makes little sense playing him there.

Matip's untimely injury has cost him a place in the starting line-up but I am sure he will get chances.

18 Aug 2016 06:35:45
klavan has done really well so far, i'm starting to think itll be klavan and matip partnership soon.

{Ed001's Note - that is the plan. Lovren will have to play very well to hold onto his place.}

18 Aug 2016 07:19:40
if that doesn't bring out the best from lovren, nothing will ed001. atleast now, assuming Matip performs well, if one of them is out of form or injured we have an able an adequate replacement, especially considering lovren has played at both sides of the CB position.

we are in a good shape now.

{Ed001's Note - exactly.}

18 Aug 2016 08:18:00
From what you've heard so far ed is Klopp definitely decided on selling Sakho or will he get the chance to redeem himself? I think it was Ed002 who said the club were open to offers for him. - Apologies if this is an unanswerable question btw.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation - and you have obviously read it.}

18 Aug 2016 09:17:03
Bit early to judge any of the new signings IMO.

18 Aug 2016 12:20:40
Matip will replace Lovren I think. Even if Sakho wasn't being sold and we didn't buy Klavan I thought that Matip was being bought to compete with (and hopefully usurp) Lovren. Don't get me wrong Lovren has improved from those disastrous early days with us but he still doesn't look great - I'm OK with Matip being given the nod ahead of him, or at least proving himself a better option. Time will tell I guess.

18 Aug 2016 14:18:44
Lovren is still susceptible to rash challenges and trying to win balls he obviously can`t win. Klavan on the other hand, is such a good player to watch if you like to watch defenders. he is one that may not be pacey BUT his sense of position, anticipation and all round awareness of what to do and when to do it, is just amazing. he is such a calming figure back there that when he has the ball, I don`t even panic as I know he will do the right thing. not saying that he won`t make mistakes but I haven`t seen him make any that has even remotely put us in peril. He is the starter for me and the others had better pull their socks up because Klavan is NOBODY`S back up.

18 Aug 2016 07:46:09
I can't see how we can call any of our defenders good yet. We have played 1 league game and conceded 3 goals so there is massive improvement needed by everyone.

18 Aug 2016 07:48:28
I don't really remember Lovern from his southampton day. Can some tell me if he was good while at southampton?

19 Aug 2016 03:03:25
One issue I've noticed with Klavan is that a few times when under pressure, he has passed the ball to a teammate who was in a worse position than him. It could just be due to them both needing to develop an awareness of each others play but I hope its not because he panics under pressure and just wants to get rid of the ball even it it means another player will lose it. But yes so far he looks like he has good positioning and anticipation, solid in the air, distributes quite well, basically a safety first kind of CB which helps provide a calming influence on those around him (eg Lovren)
