The guy who say abt liverpool was sold. where u get tat info. .liverpool is a big club and if really is sold than it will be in the news and media. From wat i know the management are still looking at a prospective bidder. according to lfc website they don't want to make the same mistake as they did to G&H.

18 Aug 2010 22:53:14
To Giuseppe Sculli was 4.1m not 25m! . . dude if mascherano clapping is ur evidence then torres gerrard jovanavic every1 in lfc team r leaving as well u epicly fail

It looks like ruis might be going to Sevilla. so is there any chance fabiano comin to Liverpool. any info ed and anything abt takeover situation?

{Editor's Note: A post from another site has been copied regarding the takeover - it should be on the web site somewhere. As for Fabiano, I would not antipate seeing him at Liverpool this coming season.}

Liverpool team to play Trabzonspor:
Reina
Kelly Carragher Kyrgiakos Aurelio
Poulsen Lucas
Maxi Cole Jovanovic
Babel
Bench: To be confirmed, but Torres, Gerrard, Aquilani are sure to be on it

I guarantee this is the line-up, I also got the Arsenal line-up correct.

I hear that some Liverpool news is about to break in the Times and the Telegraph. No idea what though.

18 Aug 2010 22:42:58
Hey all.
is it just me or is it a bit of a coincidence that Mascherano is out of tomorrow's Europa league game due to a 'calf strain'. Could it be that Roy doesn't want him cup tied and hamper any future transfer or that a deal is already in place for the sale of Masch?
Anyway the reason i came on here is, iv'e heard from a friend who has 'reasonably' good contacts within the club and he told me that we're on the verge of signing a striker, he couldn't get a name but my money's on Ola Toivonen.
Feel free to make comments.
Thanks

To this guy:

Will Masch be unable to play in CL if he plays in Europa?

Does anyone have the answer (those that KNOW only please).

Ta.

No mascherano cannot play in the Cl if played in the EL, maxi played in the EL for Ateltico and came to LFC whilst we were in the CL and then went into the EL

18 Aug 2010 22:39:12

Turkey is not in the eu it has applied to join it it's still on going. Cheers Jodie. Also Liverpool have sold the club behind closed doors

Latest from RAWK - LFC takeover - BAMBA update

Just to bring a little sanity to the guessing-games as to who I'm 'working for'. No-one. I'm certainly not cheerleading one particular bid. I salute the work Jack Slater and others are doing in urging caution and proper detailed scrutiny before we welcome a new bunch of well-heeled saviours through the Shankly Gates. That said, the Huang bid is the one I know a lot about; have done for a while; and am satisfied, via friends, colleagues and contacts inside and outside LFC and the City of London financial community, that his bid and his proposal for the future development of the club stacks up. If there's another bid of substance that is currently on the table complete with proof of funding, then neither myself or anyone I rely upon for a credible inside track knows about it.

There was definitely a feeling on Friday afternoon that Huang was to be named preferred bidder. It remains a mystery as to why the club advised, around tea-time last Friday, that an official statement was coming within the hour, only for the non-committal statement we all saw to be issued some three or four hours later. It was also odd listening to Christian Purslow state on 5Live that no bid was jumping out as being particularly attractive at the moment, and none had supplied proof of funding. Huang's bid came complete with the necessary proofs, though a well-placed financial journalist thinks the club has asked for more documentation.

The same journo is convinced that Huang's proposed takeover has come down to a blinking match. Martin Broughton is looking for a richer valuation than Huang is prepared to pay. Huang is adamant he'll put as little profit as possible in the current owners' pockets. Something has to give, and it could be that Huang retires for the time being, if a deal can't be concluded in time for Roy Hodgson to invest in the current transfer market.

In terms of my gagging, Alan F has it spot on. By a process of elimination, those closest to the sale process will work out who is giving classified information to the likes of myself. For my part, I've passed some of that on to the moderators of this site, so they're satisfied there's no skulduggery or stealth PR going on. There's a lot of fascinating detail to reveal, and in time it will all come out. For now, I really am going to shut it. I want Hicks and Gillett gone, and I'm not saying anything more that might in any way stop, or delay that happening.

Keep checking The Times. The two Tonys speak to the same people, and they're the only journalists who keep calling this takeover accurately

Would appear H&G have started playing dirty since being caught on by other 3 board members and are trying to force price up. Lets hope progress is happening and we can close this chapter.

PS - no Man City player is likely to be at LFC - if Bellamy not allowed to clubs (and listening to Savage on 5L top Prem clubs wanted him) there is no way Cruz SWP etc. . will come.

It would be a pity if babel left

18 Aug 2010 21:47:55

Babel? He's playing in the Europa this week:

Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Aurelio, Poulsen, Lucas, Maxi, Cole, Jovanovic, Babel.

18 Aug 2010 20:34:14
Not much of a rumour but i've heard this is to be the team for the match tomorrow

Reina,
Kelly, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Aurelio,
Poulsen, Lucas,
Maxi, Cole, Jovanovic,
Babel

Torres and Aquilani will be on the bench but i aint heard who else will be

*BRAVO*

Ryan Babel will join Wolfsburg within the next 48 hours. Expect him to be omitted from the Europa League game tomorrow as he will travel to Germany to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. The fee is a straight £9million rising to £11m (the amount Liverpool paid for him) depending on appearances and goals.
As soon as this transfer is completed, Liverpool will use the money and lodge an upfront offer of £10million plus future incentives for either Arda Turan or Bryan Ruiz. I would expect it to be Turan though as Liverpool would have to apply for a work permit for Ruiz as he is from Costa Rica and therefore would have to apply for a work permit which potentially could hold up a move. Hodgson wants a replacement signed quickly and a work permit is something the Turkish Turan wouldn't need. {editor's note - Turkey is not in the EU, a work permit would be required for him to play for us as well.}

I love how the Editors think they know everything! Look up the facts, like Rafa Benitez would do and I think you'll find that Turkey are part of the EU.

{Editor's Note: I am pretty sure none of the Editors would claim to know everything. However, I am sure Rafa would have looked Turkey up as you suggest - and he would have found that Turkey is NOT in the
European Union.}.

The editor is quite correct on this, Turkey are about a third of the way through the application progress, which probably won't end until about 2015

Pity The Editor Wasnt Right About Who Liverpools Current Manager Is!

Easily EDITed Tho :) {editor's note - where did anyone mention the present incumbent? Somebody else mentioned Rafa, and so his name was used, no one suggested he was the current manager.}

Oi dingbats Turkey is NOT in the EU.

Will Masch be unable to play in CL if he plays in Europa?

Does anyone have the answer (those that KNOW only please).

Ta.

Yes he would be ineligible for the CL if he plays in EL for us , however he's rather ominously been omitted from tommorrow nights squad with an injury

HE WOULD NOT BE ineligible AS A TEAM IN A DIFFERENT COMPETITION (IN THIS CASE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE) CAN REGISTER 1 PLAYER WHO HAS PLAYED IN ANOTHER COMPETITION AS PER CHAMPIONS LEAGUE REGULATION 17.18
as stated before the guy asked for answers from people who know!

Ta.

yeah ur now only allowed to play for one club per season in UEFA competitions, which includes both the champions and the europa league, but not the intertoto and the super cup. You can be on the bench but as soon as you set foot on the pitch then that's your european club for the season end of. So yeah maybe masch was being sly, i dunno i doubt woy would cup tie him anyway to be honest hes too nice! Duckula

My, some of the people on here have far far too much time on their hands and are very imaginative. It's just all wishful thinking. Don't expect any top signings, let's face it we already have bought Mascheranos replacement and that was the cut price poulsen. I will tell you what will happen with the rest of the money we get for him. . nothing. maybe a cheap left back and a cheap forward. Stop your dreaming and accept it, we are skint. Thank you mr moores and mr parry!

18 Aug 2010 19:15:31

Just accept what we already have ? we have brought in J.Cole, Jonavovic, Poulson, Shelvey, Wilson, Aurelio & Brad Jones. Gerrard & Torres are staying .we have a decent team already considering we are SKINT.
Babel & Mascherano are not going to be sold
And do not hold your breath for the take over !

Please get a grip.

TAKEOVER NEWS
the reason the takeover as gone quiet is because the only credible bid is from sheik mohammed.he has offered £420 million which matches the other serious bids and is the bid that broughton, purslow and ayre favour however the 2 planks have sought legal advice about being over ruled on their objections.they do not want to sell at that price as the bid is £80 million less than the sheik offered 12 months ago.the sheik is prepared to sit back and wait because he knows the price is only going to decrease however he would prefer to tie up the deal as quickly as possible because he does not want to prolong the agony of a club he loves dearley as he has been a fan for many years.he has already had encouraging feedback about a new stadium with hotel, shops, restaraunts and a casino being built on the site from liverpool council.this was a condition he required before he submitted a formal bid.a soon as the bid is accepted which should be within the next 7 days expect funds to be made available for this transfer window and work to start immediatley on developing the new stadium.these guys can build a 100 storey hotel in 12 months so expect things to take shape pretty quickly.good times ahead!

18 Aug 2010 18:42:14
Liverpool scouts were sent to watch PSV games but they are not for Ola Toivonen, Carlos Salcido is Hodgson target. He is not traveling to russia where psv play next because his signature is required at anfield.

{Editor's Note: I think there is a chance he will sign if the price is right. But will he want to sit on the bench when FT is fit?}

Doubt that he will want to be one of 5 strikers at Spurs either.

{Editor's Note: But Spurs play two up front and he would be a probable starter.}

18 Aug 2010 17:50:49
Lol the guy who thinks david luiz is bryan ruiz . . .also liverpool will definetely sign artem milevskiy for 15m and turan if babel leaves, and also expect to see scott parker if masch goes and insua leaving and koncheskey coming in.

Wrong wrong and wrong again. Not one thing in what you say is going to happen.

18 Aug 2010 17:46:26
Mash has been left out of liverpool's sqad to play trabzonspor because a calf injury this is probally minor but it could put off buyers

18 Aug 2010 17:45:41
I thought Hodgeson would have a look at Babel in action before selling. Makes me think the owners could be forcing this. I have heard not all of the money from sales will be going into the squad. Takeover won't happen before the deadline shuts either.

Catch a wake up, Roy has said Babel is not for sale.

in response. . .
as per Champions League regulation 17.18, one player per club who would normally be cup-tied can be registered and eligible to play, so long as his previous club did not field him in the same competition, meaning that this player can represent two different clubs in the UEFA Cup and Champions League. However, if the first club fielded him in the Champions League, but would later play in the UEFA Cup through finishing third in the group stage, the transferred player is ineligible to play in the UEFA Cup.
hope this helps! !

I believe liverpool should definatly go for a striker but not a huge name striker as i personally don't believe any big named striker would like to sit on the bench even if it is behind nando. . babel to fc twente and get brian ruiz in exchange he is a very adaptable player and can play in more than one position which would surely help? konchesky for 2.5 million a good bit of business as he is a very capable left back and can actually defend something we have been missing for a few seasons now. and liverpool should play kelly at right back and play johnson as right midfield as he clearly happiest when attacking.

18 Aug 2010 16:44:51

Im starting to think the ed is Benitez

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

18 Aug 2010 16:20:57
I don't see why we need another central midfielder, i would say its the one area we are completly covered in.

I think if we have any money left at all, then it should be spent on a striker. Quite like the thought of someone who isn't a lump!

I can see ruiz coming in!

18 Aug 2010 15:38:50
Anyone else think we will do well this season? theres a real sense of confidence surrounding the club already, even without any additional signings we look strong. provided torres stays fit we should be fine but we have lots of players who can play there if he does get injured again. kuyt ngog babel jovanovic pacheco not to mention a few in the academy: dalle valle eccelston nemeth amoo brouwer saric and simon. who says we need a striker? if FT gets injured why not play 442 so whoever is up front doesn't have to have that pressure on them to score as he will have a strike partner to help? torres may be able to play the lone striker role but the rest would benefit with a partner. so the money from any deals made this window should be spent on a proper good LB (capdevilla, personally for me, is 1 of the best in the business.) (forget bridge, couldnt make it at chelsea or man city why do we want him?) and another LW (turan has always been rumoured. we would do well to get him) together would cost around 25m?

18 Aug 2010 15:33:52
It is looking more and more unlikely that a takeover will happen before the transfer window shut's, so i suggest woy get's his arse in gear and get's a much needed striker.

If LFC are looking at a player then spurs usually become interested. i suppose it is a good way to save money on scouting, just let other teams watch the players, tottenham find out who has been watched, then that player automatically becomes a tottenham target. they must be linked to every pro-footballer on the planet.

Don't be surprised if Mascherano isn't in the squad for the Europa League match tomorrow night and don't read too much into it. He left the field on Sunday with a 'tight' thigh muscle and I suspect he will not be used at all. On his pending / possible transfer options don't be surprised either if there is an announcement that he is staying at Liverpool and will be signing a contract extension. His current contract expires in February 2012 and we would be foolish not to tie him in for a couple more years to keep the jackals away. Surely we wouldn't let a player of his quality run his contract down and go for free? He's probably had a Roy Hodgson arm round his shoulder anyway- what a different style of management !

18 Aug 2010 15:06:39
1) Riise
2) ola toivonen
3) gignac
4) romelu lukaku
5) artem milevskiy
6) Ricky van Wolfswinkel
7) Scott Parker
8) SWP
9) Remy
10) Carlton Cole
11) Turan
12) Ruiz

None of these players will sign for Liverpool.

Why do people come on here and post things that aren't true; they then get credit where it's not due - and then people who actually post genuine stuff don't get any credit. Is there really any point in saying things like: 'Sergio Aguero is on his way to Melwood for a medical' when he's probably sitting in his house/ training with their team etc.

Ed, are you thinking of any ways to improve the site in this aspect?

{Editor's Note: The whole point is that it is for rumours. Abusive and dumb etc. posts can be filtered out but the whole point is to give folks the opportunity to share their rumour. I am pretty sure that a large proportion of Liverpool fans can't wait for the day when 'Sergio Aguero is on his way to Melwood for a medical' - and perhaps one day he will be. So for now we can post rumours and dream - and perhaps some will come true.}

18 Aug 2010 14:44:38
Surely it won't matter how long masch stays for. if he leaves now with 18 months left we will get around 25m. that will do nicely for now, that we are skint. if he stays to the end of his contract we will already have been taken over therefore won't exactly need the money. win win

Milner is just finalising his move to city, so just wondering if you are 'in the Know' about any other players so that we can categorically rule them out. That way we might be able actually work out who we have a chance of signing.

Beleive what you want but I used to be Roys driver when he was at Fulham. I still chat to him and we get along quite well. Spoke to him last night and he said he is still looking for a striker but for max value of £8m. One of the potential new owners has been in touch with him and promised him £150m to spend on transfers this is to me split between the Jan and next summers transfer windows. (this potential owner has revealed him self to Roy as the leading bidder, but roy won't tell me.) This is the reason no big money signing have been made this summer. Ed, what do you reckon we should do with the money??

{Editor's Note: £150M is a lot of money and I would be tempted to say that we should keep the squad we have and look to the long term by investing the money in property.}

"i would be happy with someone like james beattie, who ill admit, is getting on a bit (32) but lets face it, the guy has plenty of PL experience"
Beattie's already signed for Rangers this summer so wouldn't be going anywhere.
I hope the rumours about Konchesky are just rumours as I reckon we'd be better off playing Agger there or keeping Insua. The 3m could be spent much better than on him.

To the person who said

"Masch has 2 years left on his contract. that's the reason woy is holdingout for 25m. he will go for a half of dat next year"

He'll go for half of that this year unless two clubs get involved in bidding for him.

18 Aug 2010 11:58:43
I personally hope ryan babel doesn't leave. granted he was very inconsistent under benitez, but he was played inconsistently. i think with cole suspended babel should step in. a more central role could bring out the best in the lad. pace to burn, can get past players with minimal effort and has a venomous strike on him (remember his strike against chelsea in CL from kickoff after the chelsea goal couple of seasons ago?) he just needs someone to build his confidence and i think roy is excellent at doing just that (how do you explain taking FULHAM to the final of the europa league?)
my team for 2010/ 11
reina
kelly carragher skrtel agger
gerrard mascherano

cole babel jovanovic
torres
cole and babel alternating postions
subs: jones wilson aurelio lucas kuyt shelvey ngog
with the exception of other players that may come in
i think its a decent squad who can challenge for silverware this season. believable/ unbelievable?

CAN WE GET IT STRAIGHT. .

""Masch has2 years left on his contract. that's the reason woy is holdingout for 25m. he will go for a half of dat next year""

Half right. .
NO HE DOES NOT. . .F F S . .HOW MANY TIMES, HE HAS 18 MONTHS LEFT ON HIS CONTRACT, IT ENDS FEB 2012, and if he leaves this window we could command around 18-23m max for him, if he stays another year we will be lucky to get 8-10m for him as he will only have 6 months left on a contract, A sticky situation for any club, as theres always the danger of him seeing out his contract and leaving for free.

Hey ed, if Liverpool sign Gignac, where will he fit into our squad. . starter?, bench?, foil for torres? {editor's note - I doubt very much Roy would spend that kind of money for a player to sit on the bench, I would expect to see the team reverting to 4-4-2.}

Liverpool would be stupid to offload ryan babel

I am really happy Skirtel has signed for another 2 years. He was a slow starter after his bad injury, but now is looking like getting back to his best and is only 25 yr old, exactly the type of player to be I want to be here for years to come, (same as Agger, although if someone had offered decent money for him before the Arsenal game, I wouldn't have been disappointed, but anyone who is prepared to play on through concussion for the good of the team gets my vote).

On another front, is it just me, or does Glen Johnson lack the most basic of control and kicking skills, that even low league footballers seem to possess. Seriously, I've watched him for Liverpool and England over the past year and he has real difficulty bringing a ball under control, lacks composure, can't pass accuratly and strugles positionally. He has a good engine and is good going forward, and also knocks in a decent ball, but come on!
I reckon he is one of the first out the door NEXT season, as Roy likes his steady Eddies at the back.

To the person who said

[ I don't think its they can't afford him, its more about a waiting game. he wants to leave, he is in his last year of contract, that makes him cheap! and the teams interested will hold off till they can get him for a bargain. .I wouldn't expect to get anywhere near 25m. more like 18 if we are lucky, it don't matter how good he is or what he is worth, its what we will get for a player that becomes FREE next year]

Masch has 2 years left on his contract. that's the reason woy is holdingout for 25m. he will go for a half of dat next year

Liverpool Rumours
Liverpool will NOT sign bryan ruiz. .benfica have said they will not let him go for anything less than ?40m
i apologise for this i meant to say david ruiz. who feels like a dumb s* t? me! {editor's note - David Ruiz is a centre back and has not even been linked with Liverpool.}

Not to make you feel like an even more dumb s* t - but his name is actually David Luiz. Benfica are doing all they can to hold onto him, hence the £50m price tag, but Chelsea, City and Real are all still keen to sign him.

Being a benfica fan and liverpool fan myself, his transfer to anfield would be the only move i'd welcome although the least likely to come true

Think its about time Liverpool treated Ryan Babel with a bit of respect and play him in his proper position, He might actually be a good striker, which is the reason we bought him. Having said that if Wolfsberg come in with 10mill then you can't turn that down. Any truth in this rumour you think ED?

Masch isn't in the last year of his contract, he has 2 years left on his contract so 25m is a fair price to pay.

Liverpool will NOT sign bryan ruiz. .benfica have said they will not let him go for anything less than ?40m (approx £33m) which we can't afford, even if we sell mascherano for £25m. dutch under 21 striker ricky van wolfswinkle has been linked although utrecht have slapped £8m price tag on him which could be a little costly for a 'yet to become' household name. i would be happy with someone like james beattie, who ill admit, is getting on a bit (32) but lets face it, the guy has plenty of PL experience and he knows where the net is. at £2.5m he could be just what we need until the takover happens, then, hopefully we can get who we want

This Man/ Child does not know his football! James Beattie has moved to Rangers? and like the ed said, Bryan Ruiz does not play for benfica and if you meant David, we have never been linked with him!

In response to the above, Masch actually has 2 years left on his contract. This means that he will not go on the cheap, at least not until next summer, when we would still be able to get around 15 million.

"On Kuyt . . . He, like N'gog, for me is so frustrating cos he does lots of good in a game, works hard for the team and gets in decent soring positions, however he seems to score only important goals and is far too incosistant in front of goal."

I think they are the exact opposite. Kuyt is experienced, has a good character and tactical awareness. but is limited in pace, technical ability.

ngog on the other hand is still young and developing his character. but he is technically gifted and has pace

Quick question to anyone who can answer it. . .

Editor you might know?

If Masch plays in Europa tomorrow does that mean he will not be able to play in europe fixtures for say Inter are Barca?
Or is he still eligable to play for them in Europe as it's Europa not Champions League??

{Editor's Note: My understanding is that it does not cup-tie him.}

I'm thinking if he plays then he ain't going anywhere.

As doubtful as I was about Roy Hodgson's appointment at first, I am now convinced he could be the best thing to have happened at Anfield in years. "Unloved" players who looked poor under Rafa - the type who occasionally need an arm around them to play with confidence, will possibly strive under the very different Hodgson.
I'm thinking specifically of Ryan Babel who, although currently being linked a great deal with a move away (possibly part-ex for Ruiz) should be kept at least till January to see if he can blossom under RH. The lad obviously has talent but that has, in my opinion, been misused in his time at Anfield. A more central role perhaps, and a bit more "warmth" might yet see the sulky Dutch s*d become an asset to us !
The Hodgson effect also seems to be spreading to other, more senior players and there seems to be a mood of optimism and togetherness in the ranks. I thought we were defensively very good against Arsenal and grew as an attacking force in the second-half. Glen Johnson looked good going forward and I liked the look of Jovanovic.
If the current plight of the Club means we won't be able to add to the squad then so be it!. . . . Kelly and Shelvey have looked very impressive so far and I'm sure Wilson will be an excellent addition aswell. Pacheco, Dalle Vale, Amoo, Suso and Sterling are amongst the brightest prospects around and we have others waiting in the wings.
I'd rather we developed the talent we've got (even if it took a couple more years) than have a situation like they've got at City where they are playing a real-life computer-Manager game with real money but very little class. They've got over 300 "world-class" strikers on their books and are paying 20 billion squid a week in wages. Their car-park looks like a Bentley showroom but the only use they have for silver polish is for the overpriced mercenaries bling! Balotelli ??. . . I'd honestly never heard of him a couple of months back yet he's supposedly World-Class! They've lost the ever-loyal and likeable Bellamy who at least had enough desire to play football to move away (. . but CARDIFF! ?) knowing full-well he wouldn't get a game at City.
I dislike Man.City nearly as much as their neighbours now and this bo* ocks-to-the-rest attitude. Oh, and James Milner ??. . . . £10m at the very most !
Like Everton they've had an inferiority complex for decades and now they've got a sugar-daddy they're acting like a Lottery winner from a Council-estate!
Whatever happens with our supposed takeover I hope we focus on bringing players through and giving them a chance rather than having a dozen £30m + foreign players for every position, all on £200,000 a week !
Our current plight means we have to look at players like Konchelsky, Riise, Cisse, Luke Young and Carlton Cole. . . . all of them seriously crap! To sign players of this ilk sends out the wrong message to the fans and other players. We don't need a left-back. We've got Aurelio, Insua, Kelly (my first-choice) and Agger. Konchelsky ?? Don't be ridiculous!
We don't need cover for Mascherano either. Amongst others we've got the very impressive Jonjo Shelvey but we need to get away from the mind-set of playing 2 holding-midfielders in every game. Especially at home to Blackpool, Fulham etc.
Our greatest need is cover or support for Torres and that brings me full-circle back to Ryan Babel. .just a thought !

With the arrival of brad jones today there will be no place for cavaleri as roy will use gulacsi as no3 keeper he is lined up for a return to south america for 2 million [Cavalieri has stated his intent to leave for reasons similar to Mach, that's why we have got Jones in]

paul koncheskey will be snapped up for 3.5 million and insua will go to make way for this deal

[cant see how that's a better signing than keeping Insua to be honest, Id rather continue with Agger at LB than waste money on the Konk]

babel is off to birmingham for 10 million expect that cash to go towards the signing of connor wickham from ipswich

[Id be interested to see if Roy can work his Zamora magic on Babel and get him fireing again. . We need a striker and both Babel and Kuyt were originally strikers till rafa made them wingers. ]

there is cash for a striker lots of suggestions in press but will have to wait and see

[I doubt theres a lot of cash unless someone comes in for Mach, My guess would be a 5-8m player coming in]

plessis/ el zhar/ rodriguez and lucas are all avaliable to buy if they go and only then will steven defour and shaun wright phillips come in.

[Lucas was captain the other day, I reckon he is staying. Plus we have Gerrard, Aqualani, Shelvey and now Poulsen, why would we need to spend money on Defour?]

liverpool looking for cash for mascharano and at present nobody can afford him

[ I don't think its they can't afford him, its more about a waiting game. he wants to leave, he is in his last year of contract, that makes him cheap! and the teams interested will hold off till they can get him for a bargain. .I wouldn't expect to get anywhere near 25m. more like 18 if we are lucky, it don't matter how good he is or what he is worth, its what we will get for a player that becomes FREE next year]

I think Ola Toivonen will come and that will be it."

Mascherano has two years left on his contract. Everyone knows that. He will only go if Liverpool get close to what they want for him. Credit to Masch in the game the other day for giving his best and looking genuinely delighted to be involved in Ngog's goal.

I think the club will definitely bring in another striker to help out Ngog and Torres and then Kuyt will be cover after that. Pacheco, Amoo, and others are enough to use in a pinch.

I have a feeling the striker will be a surprise and not necessarily the ones being mentioned, although Koivinen looks to be a possiblity. I would expect somewhere around the 7 million pound mark for him.

I believe a number of people have already stated what I'm about to say, but once more can't hurt; Mascherano has 2, I repeat 2 years left on his current contract, which is why Roy has insisted on the club receiving top dollar for his services. This also explains why the club are prepared to wait for this offer.

Don't know who were gonna buy then ed: we seem to be stuttering again, or can it be that we are in fact skint. {editor's note - we are skint, that's why our signings are cheap or free. Not such a bad thing, better than spending £18m on a right back who can't defend.}

Ed, am i right in saying Masch has 2 years left on his contract?? if that's the case, and we don't sell him this year, he's hardly going to sign a new contract and we may even loose money on the £18m we paid for him selling in his last year of contract. . :-?

I given ngog alot of stick since hes put on the red shirt . but i'll be honest and say that this chap migth be finally starting to show wot he can do . i thought he played very well against arsenal and that goal he banged in was bleeding super . if he can score , i think was it 8 goals last year when the teams was playing poor . i reckon he cud prob bang in at the most 15 to 20 if the team is playin well. does anyone else share my views

GEORGIE

Think your right, he's playing with a lot of confidence at the moment, think that is what he needed, not bad 4 in 3 games
