Evening Eds
Do u expect sturridge to be sold in the summer and what about Danny ings future at the club if both were to go do you see us buying a replacement .
Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I expect Sturridge to go and Ings to stay. Sturridge will be replaced.}

18 Apr 2017 20:49:51
studge has lost his way and pace, he will do well somewhere but he is too lazy for our style o play, on another note I see the echo has some ambitious local architect plans how anfield could develop in the future to 108000.first thing doing re-routing slightly Walton breck road so the KOP can be enlarged. really needs doing, is dated and small, esp compared to the main stand. i know there is infrastructure problems but as the article says, they are about to develop much of it as houses but now would time to revise it so the stadium can be made bigger.

18 Apr 2017 20:52:43
Going to be sad to see Sturridge go. On his day one of the most potent finishers you will find.

We unfortunately cannot rely on players who will feature for two minutes here and there. Pity.

18 Apr 2017 21:00:07
Cheers ed for the quick response can I ask is there real truth in the Ox Camb links hope not waste of money always injured and poor final ball would not improve 1st team one bit and would it be too much to hope that Klopp could unearth another Maltip I hope these VVD rumours are a just that £50 million for a player that Celtic paid 2/ 3 million for only a few seasons ago let city or whoever wants to overpay for him go ahead we need to spend our money wisely not waste it .
Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine Zippy.}

18 Apr 2017 21:21:59
Will be sad when Sturridge leaves. Injurys have really affected his career. Has to be said though he doesn't suit Klopps style of play and even when he comes on off the bench he looks slow and like he is just going through the motions. Hope we replace him with an out and out Striker. Dembele would be my pick.

18 Apr 2017 21:30:13
Local Architect?

Are you talking about an architect who most probably lives in the leafy Tory suburbs of Wirral?

If you meet her, ask her to update her Amiga 1200 and put a roof on the design, after all it does rain in Liverpool.

As for rerouting a road, what would she care?

It's not going to affect her abode, is it?

18 Apr 2017 21:42:11
Let's not forget, Dembele is playing in the SPL. Scott Sinclair seems to be the next big thingbut could not cut it in the EPL.

Chelsea apparently made a £40m bid for Dembele in the last window and failed. Liverpool are not in a position to take risks of epic proportions anymore.

£40m for Lewandowski and I will personally drive him to Anfield. Unfortunately he will cost more than that.

{Ed025's Note - i would say double that max, hes excellent...hes not lukaku but hes a hell of a player mate.. :)

18 Apr 2017 21:07:52
Sound Ed thanks.

18 Apr 2017 22:49:51
Chelsea couldn't offer him the game time he demands. Maybe we can with Sturridge leaving.

18 Apr 2017 23:45:25
You're right Ed. Lewa is definitely not Luka-who. Lewa is the player Luka-who wishes he was in his wildest of widest dreams where only unicorns exist.

{Ed007's Note - Lukaku wishes he was Moussa Dembele, isn't he demanding CL football? Come up to Celtic for £25/30k a week and we'll give you CL football every year or is it the 'big' CL club wages he wants?
I've never bought into that garbage about a player wanting CL football, there's plenty of teams can near enough guarantee CL participation but for some strange reason they can't afford the wages so transfers are a no go and it is glaringly obvious that it's nothing to do with the prestige, it's all about the money.}

18 Apr 2017 23:01:13
Dont think you can really dismiss the quality of dembele. There have been great players playing in the scottish league and cut it in the english league. Henrik Larsson being one and the most pertinent one being King Kenny. Good players are allowed to play in weaker leagues.

19 Apr 2017 08:51:39
Be a shame to see Sturridge go but on top of injuries it always seemed he was a front 2 player, where both were a constant goal threat so he got a bit of time and space to use his speed and natural finishing. Maybe I've misread but being the main attacking threat never seems to suit him.

19 Apr 2017 08:38:52
I'd be really happy with Dembele as a guy who gets in the right place and finishes. It is syrely about what they do and how they do it. Ed007 that is the best commentary on the bull droppings some spout I've seen.

{Ed007's Note - Remember a few years back when Russian teams were paying crazy wages to guys like Eto'o etc? Suddenly living in a country where if it doesn't snow it's a heatwave wasn't a problem to the pampered prima donnas.
If Liverpool offered Messi £400k a week and Celtic offerd him £500k a week he'd be up here drinking Irn Bru and telling the support all about his Irish granny before you could sing the first verse of The Fields of Athenry!}

19 Apr 2017 12:10:58
Thanks Ed007 Messi drinking Irn Bru image made me laugh.

{Ed007's Note - :-D

18 Apr 2017 17:34:52
Hi Eds
Do you see Liverpool signing First team players (someone who is playing regularly) or just backup squad players this coming summer?

The system or the way or the training Klopp wants players to follow makes me feel that even if we get a First team player he may need to adapt and prove his fitness to Klopp before he is included in starting Eleven.

Do you think the current starting eleven players need to be replaced with another ones? Except for natural Left Back position?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - we are looking for first team players.}

18 Apr 2017 18:06:01
Especially in defence.

18 Apr 2017 19:44:10
One thing you can be sure of is that there are not going to be no signings like Markovic at £20m and them see him fail.

Every signing Klopp has made so far for us have had an impact on the first team bar Grujic who has been riddled with injuries. What is the bet that if it weren't for Grujic continues injury issues he would have racked up the minutes as he looked pretty damn good preseason and whenever he made apps for the first team.

Klopp has really taken the current squad to the next level without a Suarez and fully fit Sturridge scoring left right and centre.

Just about each and every player Klopp took over from Rodgers has improved bar Moreno. Even Joe Allen who was moved on seemed to pick up his level under Klopp.

I am looking forward to the summer and expect the squad we currently have to be improved. Fingers crossed.

18 Apr 2017 18:48:05
What players that we are interested in do you think will be starters ed? Pereira Maybe, the rest of them like Azmoun, Marega, Rafa, Brandt, Sessegnon, etc are all squad players and all they will do is block the path of our youngsters. Brandt is viewed as a marque signing for some people but how is he going to fit in the team as he isn't getting ahead of Coutinho that's for sure. I hope what happened last summer will happen again, be linked with a zielinski all summer and end up with a Wijnaldum who is the standard of player we need. We will have champions league if we don't Improve the starting 11 this summer while the rest of the top 6 are we will miss out next season.

{Ed001's Note - how are they squad players? Sessegnon would walk into our side. When have I even mentioned Azmoun? He has been looked at but we look at thousands of players.}

18 Apr 2017 19:58:51
brilliant post, Max re: Klopp's improvement of players. Also, those who could not cut it are out the door and got them for good prices as well so credit to him there. He knows what we need and I trust he will do what is right. What I will say is that those looking for us to pay 45 -60m for players had better get over it. Klopp doesn't and won't roll like that.

18 Apr 2017 20:02:46
The term 'marque signing' irritates the living daylights out of me.

What is the bet that there will be a complete fan meltdown with the players Klopp signs in the summer.

If we do not sign VVD then all hell will break loose. Would VVD be a 'marque signing' :-O.

18 Apr 2017 21:20:52
Don't see that our front three can improved next season, maybe a back up winger.

18 Apr 2017 23:50:54
Spot on, Harry. Brandt is NO squad player and those who think so had better go watch him play. He is special, severely hightly-rated and EXACTLY what we need. He is part of the next generation of German young talent along with Sane, Kimich, Sule, Ruddy, and dare I say, Gnabry.

As for Lallana not being the same after his injury, how about we wait and see what happens before writing his semi obituary.

19 Apr 2017 04:28:34
Can I just add being a first team player doesn't mean starting every match - if you play in the CL you 15 first team players all ready to compete, rotate and come on from the bench, not just a first 11 and a few youngsters.

Brandt doesn't need to replace anyone 1 for 1 in terms of position, he's just there as a different option to choose from and will still play regular first team football even with Coutinho and Mane in the squad.

19 Apr 2017 05:00:09
Well said zimbo. People on this site simply cannot understand the concept of squad depth especially when we will be challenging on 4 fronts. Klopp's 'heavy metal football' can be extremely energy sapping and we need at least 5 first team players fighting for 3 starting spots both in the forward line and midfield.
We have Mane, Firmino, Coutinho and Origi right now. Sturridge will be replaced with Brandt, making it 5 first teamers slogging it out for 3 places. In midfield, Hendo, Can, Gini, Lallana, Grujic will likely be there next season and possibly Keita so 5 first team players and one youngster (Grujic) competing for 3 slots.

19 Apr 2017 08:22:09
Lallana won't be the same after his injury. crikey we best get replacements lined up for all our players that get injured and will never be the same. Correct me if I'm wrong Eds but his injury is nothing particularly serious compared to knee injuries etc we have seen. It will take a while to get firing on all cylinders as with all injuries for that period of time but that's all as far as I was aware?

{Ed002's Note - All Liverpool said yesterday about the injury is that it is a muscular injury of the thingh and they hope he will be available in two weeks. I can only really go by the press releases. The manager may give an update when he does the pre-game briefing to the press.}

19 Apr 2017 10:16:36
Cheers Ed.

19 Apr 2017 13:57:03
RE Zimbo and buzzer, klopp does have a defined first 11 who play every game they're fit for. That may change next season but I wouldn't be sure.

19 Apr 2017 14:45:18
Sure PutneyRed, but the chances of Klopp's first 11 all being fit at the same time for more than 10 games next season are extremely slim. We need adequate cover (2 quality backups for both the midfield and forward positions) to avoid drop in quality due to injuries or rotation.

19 Apr 2017 14:45:31
I'd agree with that however earlier in the season he did show willingness to use Firmino in some games and an out and out striker in others. likewise tried Can in some games even when Llanlana/ Wiji were fit (presumably for his physical presence) . I suspect he's had a settled first 11 more by force than design at times, and we may see him being a bit more game by game in midfield/ upfront if we get European Football.

18 Apr 2017 15:36:04
Eds, I saw Woodburn was among other young players like Donnarumma and Renato Sanches up for the European Golden Boy this year. Is he really seen as that promising?
For me our best youngster has to be Trent Alexander Arnold who I can really see making the step up soon as a regular in the starting 11.
As for Woodburn I know he's came off the bench a few times this season for us and even got a goal but never realised he was so highly rated in world football. From watching the under 23s I was far more impressed with Harry Wilson and he hasn't gotten ahead of him in the pecking order, so Klopp must see something I dont. For the future where can you see him playing for us? He played behind Origi against stoke but for most of his games in the youth set up he played upfront as a striker?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is ahead of Wilson, which is why he made more appearances in the first team. He has been kept from making so many appearances for the first team and U23s due to his age, not quality.}

18 Apr 2017 16:07:57
I'm I right in thinking woodburn only 17.

18 Apr 2017 17:32:06
He was actually quite good vs Stoke and should have won a penalty had we not had "Mr Hollywood" Mike Dean as the ref. I have high hopes for Woodburn.

18 Apr 2017 22:47:59
if ryan sessignon was bought, their games have to be managed and that's because of their age and they can't train as much either if i remember rightly. Its also why i suspect taa has been held back too not because they are not good enough.

Woodburn has also shown he can play with the big boys so to speak and hold his own which wilson i don't think has developed to that stage yet. But am i also right in thinking that they play in different positions too, wilson is more of a central creative player is he not?

I think wilson will make it as a professional but maybe not with lfc long term.

19 Apr 2017 04:31:24
Wilson plays on the right wing or RM. personally I think both can make it. Wilson suffered a setback a while ago but has really shone this year and deserves a chance in cup games to show he can back up Mane.

19 Apr 2017 06:02:41
Keep an eye on Rhian Brewster. He has been brilliant this year - I wouldn't be surprised if he makes an appearance on the bench next year.

For me, I reckon Wilson needs to be a bit less predicable- it would help if he realised his right foot is good for something other than standing on. However he has been very good since coming back from injury and hopefully will kick on.

19 Apr 2017 08:07:40
Surely the odd speed bump and set back us what the club and the developing players need. Need to see how well they cope with adversity to see real potential.

19 Apr 2017 08:10:09
Has anyone for any team scored more at u23 level than Wilson? Believe he has 28 so far. seriously impressive.

19 Apr 2017 09:18:07
Agree on Brewster - another season at u23 perhaps but if continues his learning curve at this rate could be something very interesting indeed.

19 Apr 2017 10:36:13
Woodburn is being handled properly.

Klopp said earlier this season that he would leave the young lads develop until there performances reached a standard where he couldn't ignore ignore them.

Woodburn if handled properly is going to be a top top player.

From an old fogey like me (55) he reminds me of a young Mr Dalglish who was also handled properly as a youngster by the legendary Jock Stein at Celtic. They won 9 titles in a row. I think he was captain 24.
Here's hoping young Ben has half the success that Kenny had.
If he has even half of Kennys talent he will be world class.

Yes Kenny was that good. and a gentleman as well.

LFC through and through.

18 Apr 2017 13:21:14
A question for Ed001 if I may, or any other poster who has an opinion.

I recently read your article on the worlds best managers and you pointed out there weaknesess. You have also done so in the past with shankley being to loyal to ageing players or players who lost there desire for winning. So id like to ask what was Paisleys weakness.

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I honestly don't know if Paisley had one. The worst thing I can think of is that he didn't want the job and didn't stay long enough as he hated the limelight.}

18 Apr 2017 15:02:32
He was too greedy (for success) 😉🏆🏆🏆.

18 Apr 2017 17:55:35
3 European cups in 9 years, no manager will ever beat that!

18 Apr 2017 22:28:19
!977, 1978 and 1981 makes three European Cups in five years.

19 Apr 2017 04:21:31
he was in charge for 9 years winning 20 trophies that included 3 European cups.

19 Apr 2017 08:09:34
Sadly his greatest weakness was he did all that in an era before the great god that is the premier league came along so far too many today don't get how significant his success was.

18 Apr 2017 13:10:17
Ed001

Wanted you opinion please on Emre Can's recent improvement on the field. Do you think he is now thinking more and trying harder or does it come down to his injury? Or if course the fact he wants a new deal? He has certainly upped his game of late that's for certain.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he has just been learning to play the system and getting the rust out of his performances. That's all it is.}

18 Apr 2017 14:01:21
Ok mate. Do you think him and Henderson can play the system together or best if one or the other?

{Ed001's Note - they can easily play alongside each other, it is about developing partnerships. Any pair can play together, they just need to spend time learning each other's game. Gerrard and Lampard, for instance, could have learnt to play together given regular games together, but they never got them.}

18 Apr 2017 14:23:28
Fair enough mate. Plenty of options for Klopp hopefully soon then. A few people have said Hendo won't play again this season. Have you anything on that? Im thinking he is probably a week to 10days away?

{Ed001's Note - they are saying he is due back at the same time as Lallana, the 1st of May. However, it has been pushed back a few times already, so I am not convinced.}

18 Apr 2017 15:16:26
I always thought some of Cans best games were in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Hendo where Hendos athleticism and experience complemented Cans physicality and bullish runs forward. I'd happily see a return there if we choose to play it again.

A couple of months ago I wasn't so sure where Can fit into the 4-3-3 as wasn't sure he had the defensive nous to play deep, or the skills needed to play further forward, but he's proving me wrong on both accounts last few weeks. I do think he's been helped a bit by the subtle tweaks (as I percieve it) to Klopps system where we seem to be sitting the midfield a little deeper and giving the opposition a little less space.

18 Apr 2017 17:37:19
Can had been struggling for form and to relies where his true position is. Credit to Klopp for figuring out how to use him especially in Hendo's absence.

What Klopp has done is focus more on what Can is good at (high tempo, high press, better passing and vision) instead of working on his weaknesses (dictating play, anticipation and awareness tactically) . This has helped him have better performances and grow his confidence. Ed is also right that any pair can play together and we are seeing it right now with Can and Wij.

They are learning each other's game and improving every time as a pair. This is what good coaching and good work on the training pitch does cos money cannot fix that. Credit to both Can and Klopp for figuring it out.

18 Apr 2017 22:49:17
Can will be replaced going forward and I truly expect Keita or another midfielder to stamp his authority in the most fragile midfield in the league. Not sure what is Can good at if not using his upper body to penetrate players. His passing is dreadful in the first place hence he doesn't sit deep.

Pressing is running and Can is guilty of slowing the game down coz he doesn't gets his heads up in time to pick the players who has moved on to the space that creates itself when we counter.

He is ridiculously overrated! Brought to replace Lucas and now play alongside Lucas! Makes two rash challenges every game one he gets away and one he gets a booking. He must be in the top of the list ( Most yellow cards for stupid fouls by any midfielder after Garett Barry )

If you want to talk about class midfielders then talk about the likes of Vidal, Thiago, Modric, Herrera, Kante etc.

19 Apr 2017 00:00:03
Ok Harry we get it. You can't stand Can even tho the guy has been great for about two months now all while playing with an injury BUT I guess the kid can't do anything right. Nobody called him a class player and even he does not say that. He's a young guy with great potential and upside still learning the game.

Comparing him to other players who are older and more experienced than him means absolutely NOTHING cos none of them play for LFC and only you seem to care about non LFC players on this forum cos NOBODY else cares.

We love Can and he is playing great right now with the hope that he can be the best he can be for us. He doesn't have to play like anyone else to be great. Thank heavens you're not a coach. You would totally destroy players cos they don't play like whatever player idol your obsession is at that time.

19 Apr 2017 04:36:05
I'd take him over Herrera any day - the rest are fully matured world class midfielders and an unfair comparison for a 23yr old.

Can has some weaknesses for sure but let's give him time to mature and prove he can eliminate them or work around them - his strengths are impressive enough to warrant a bit of patience while he learns his craft. His last few games have been outstanding and I'm sure many sides would be happy to have someone like him to strengthen up their midfield options.

19 Apr 2017 05:12:56
Harry, u need to accept the fact Can will be a LFC player for quite a while and support him. No doubt he will get better as his prime years are yet to come. Like u, there are many LFC fans (including me) who want us to sign Keita but no need to degrade Can's ability for that. If Keita does sign, then he will be a regular starter for sure and Can may probably be simply a backup for Hendo but squad depth is important and he will play an important role in next season's title challenge (fingers crossed) .

19 Apr 2017 08:12:02
Good point zimbo, his age is significant here as he is clearly a player still learning and developing and having to do it under a lot of scrutiny.

19 Apr 2017 18:01:03
All good points, lads BUT we all know Harry. If one of our midfielders or players don't play like "insert non LFC player that NOBODY else cares about on this site here", the player is crap and needs to be sold.

18 Apr 2017 10:05:36
Just a little observation. We are playing three games in a row against teams either previously or currently managed by tony pulis.

We've always had a tough time against his team but hoping we go on and make it 3 wins from 3.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

18 Apr 2017 17:37:36
That's the hope Pak.

18 Apr 2017 09:06:42
Bentekers is going to be up for it this Sunday. couple that with 'play it direct' Big Sam, should be an interesting time.

Will there be space for Couts and Firminho?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

18 Apr 2017 09:37:16
There will be space, palace play with 3 players zaha benteke and Townsend (less so of the three) who don't particularly track back if our passing from the back is good and quick there should be plenty of space for our midfield and forward line to exploit.

18 Apr 2017 09:53:34
Never seen benteke up for anything to be honest.
Lucas will nullify him anyway.

18 Apr 2017 10:04:18
Palace will definitely score. i just hope we score more.

18 Apr 2017 10:09:12
I wouldn't be surprised if big Ben scores 1-2 against us. When he was at villa he made a habit of it.

Baz.

18 Apr 2017 10:40:31
Also, Sakho has been their rock in defence recently and will not be eligible to play.

18 Apr 2017 14:25:36
They will try to hit us on counter. They have pace to do that. People who called Zaha average will eat their words!

18 Apr 2017 14:28:28
I hope they do lump it up.
Rather than pa
rk the bus our lads can deal with that
Benteke looked sluggish last weekend let's hope it continues,
Zaha is a threat with his pace but at least gayle is not there anymore.

Tough match at a ground with great atmosphere from the home fans.
I'd take another 1-0.

18 Apr 2017 17:45:56
And we have guile and movement to hurt them in tight spaces as well, Harry.

And so what if Zaha scores? Will that suddenly change the fact that he's been bang average his whole PL career? NOPE!

Zaha is still average cos he's been average his whole PL career and having a half decent season after 3-4 years of abject mediocrity does NOT change that.

19 Apr 2017 08:43:19
Sakho being unavailable is significant but I wouldn't expect the lazy forwards of the Pardew regime to turn up. Zaha and Townsend have been putting in shifts for BFS and they have sorted a proper left back now. Plus they are playing for survival and in some cases for a move elsewhere. This game potentially carries more risk than pkaying one of the top 6.

19 Apr 2017 08:46:28
N Red you do know Zaha is 24 and the previous few seasons has been time developing and having made a disastrous transfer choice? I wouldn't sign him for LFC but dismissing what could be him coming into his prime and playing to potential as more or less a blip, based on being average during his formative years is a bit harsh.

19 Apr 2017 12:30:45
Looking at Palace last week it seems to be not only Zaha but Andros Townsend as well who is a threat.

19 Apr 2017 18:03:29
Fresh, you are making my point. He indeed is very talented and I never disputed that. I said he's been average and lazy up until now hence, does not warrant any accolades coming from those crowing over him to come to LFC. , I will give him his due, no doubt. he needs to do more in the next 2 seasons and if he does.

20 Apr 2017 06:45:24
Get you now N Red. I think he definitely wasn't making most of talent previously. Can't see how he'd fit at LFC unless he fancied bench warming and giving Mane 20 mins rest at end of most games. The Africa Nations thing stops him being viable. Supposedly Spurs are very interested but again would he get to start many games.
