Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

Doesn't come as a shock but it's annoying the fact we've done nothing about it. We KNEW Sturridge was a liability and don't get me wrong the lads an enigma when he's fit, but we all saw this coming so why didn't we spend the Suarez money on a GoalScorer?!!
He's made of glass and Balotelli Lambert drop dead they're not going to be a threat. Don't say Borini. We're stuck here, I could see this coming along with every other single Liverpool fan so why didn't the transfer committee?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Your spot on mate, he is brilliant, when he plays, got him, well did have, in my fantasy team, and they go and give him a big pay rise, who gets a pay rise, when there out sick, there is only one solution, we have to sell a couple of fringe players in january, and buy what they should have, a pacy forward, who scores a lot of goals, and who hardly ever gets injured, sorry, but we just don't have anyone up front that will get us top four, or anything from real madrid, what I would give for the SAS back again .

Hey lfc fans

Well I did have something else to say but now that Sturridge is out for another long period

Il change my predictions to 1-1 over the weekend

And basically the same type of results over the next seven games so it's going to be another rough month so strap yourselves in

Unless Liverpool have a forward who actually stays in the box and stays on the last defender because this dropping deep crap to pick up the ball is causing liverpool to have weak attack docs no one is in the box

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Gutted. News is Sturridge has suffered calf injury in first training sesh and out for up to four weeks. If there is a fairytale ending to Lamberts journey let's hope it starts here. well i'm a red, I dream, its what we dare to do

Believable4 Unbelievable0

We can dream, but that won't put the ball in the back of their goal, yes its going to be a difficult season, never mind the next month, were going to be hard to watch, and teams like QPR will now fancy their chances, BR and his transfer team will have to change the way they operate, maybe listen to what the fans say, because this was always going to happen, and will happen again, I really do think that Sturridge is a great forward, but every fan knows he only lasts a few games, then he is out, so, next time we have money to spend, SIGN A TOP STRIKER .

1st time poster but been a regular on the site for a few years now. Would love to know everyone's opinion on the recent saga concerning sterling, chamberlain etc playing for England u21s? While I wouldn't have an issue with sterling going to the tournament I think it's pretty clear he wouldn't be a part of the squad for the qualifiers. Is it then not a tad unfair to replace players that have been part of that squad to bring in sterling, chamberlain etc. however surely it would benefit the other players to be playing with England first teamers? What's everyone's take on this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed013's Note - Glad you are getting involved mate}

I heard a really interesting interview with the Belgium manager during the World Cup who put his sole reason behind his team's recent emergence to the fact that they opted to play the U21 talent together at U21, rather than cherry picking the best for the senior team. That way they all mature together and learn to play as a unit. They gain experience and by the time they get to a senior tournament they are a team. The less-talented members are just as much part of that team. For the sake of future success if sacrifice watching the likes of sterling and the ox in the senior team at present.

I remember being told a story (from someone inside the club)that Bill Shankly wanted to buy Frank Worthington and the board wouldn't back him and that was one of the reasons he left the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Worthington failed a medical, that is why he wasn't signed.}

Worthington failed a medical, through high blood pressure . He was told to go on holiday, rest up and to come back and have another medical. He went on holiday partying every night came back
had a second medical and his blood pressure was higher. Worthington admitted this on numerous interviews and after dinner speeches

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed well that's another story bites the dust LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

It wasn't high blood pressure. Some of us old timers know what the problem really was. He was a party animal.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was high blood pressure caused by his life style. They told him to go on holiday and rest hoping the blood pressure would come down. He went on Holiday and had a party every night, like I said. He had 2 medicals and failed them both with high blood pressure.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was also around at time and know all the rumours of him allegedly having this, that and the other. The truth is he was a party Animal, but he failed 2 medicals because of high blood pressure

Regarding the poll about lallana was there a poll on Henderson or has there been and can anybody remember the result.

Hey, sorry to have a moan but I really don't like the fact that people feel it's acceptable to put Hodgson down based on his speech impediment. I've seen numerous posts, from eds too, condemning the use of 'Woy' in reference to him but it's turned up in today's poll question. Shall we start hunting down those with mental illnesses and we'll start calling them 'the mentals?' I thought the eds on this site were above all this name calling. Obviously I was wrong.

Believable10 Unbelievable9

If I was Woy Hodgson I'd be fair more offended by people like you comparing my speech impediment to a mental illness than I would be by some harmless internet banter.

I have a speech impediment myself. Can't say the letters F or S for my life. I just end up spitting at you or hissing like a snake! Everyone takes the mick but I just embrace it.

It is nowhere even close to taking the mickey out of someones mental illness and you are being way too sensitive mate. It is no worse than calling Rooney Shrek. I veryy much think that the 'banter' page is perhaps not for you mate.

Just stop being so soft mate. No body is viciously discriminating against him for it, just maknig a few jokes.

Agree10 Disagree12

Agree with you bud he's a prat but taking the Mickey out of his so called speech impediment is out of order.

Agree7 Disagree5

17 Oct 2014 13:19:40
Totally agree, I had a speech impediment as a kid and after a lot of work with a speech therapist, I'm 90% over it, so agree to the OP and yes, I thought the Eds were above this too! Sorry Eds, but I usually worship every word you say, but not on this one! I'm not a Roy fan though and he makes so many mistakes, it's worrying the FA stick with him!

Agree6 Disagree1

Fair point to make Angrychef, it's not on when you start accepting the mocking individuals for any differences or impediments they may have.

Adam, you're missing the point mate. Just because you're strong enough to deal with it doesn't mean everyone else is.

As for just making a few jokes, fair enough, it may seem harmless, but there are many sociologists that would disagree, George Allports' scale of prejudice for example shows that it is often the thin end of the wedge.

I don't mean to come across as self-righteous, but I have to agree with the OP, in that there should be some editorial responsibility taken when overseeing a forum that is open for millions to view.

Agree5 Disagree1

I didn't compare any impediment to mental health issues. I was trying to put things into context. Obviously, I failed. There are a lot of people in the public eye with speech impediments yet it seems it's only mentioned, in a derogatory fashion, when we talk about RH. Almost every time he's mentioned somebody pipes up with 'Woy' this and that. I'm pretty sure RH doesn't think it's banter. Otherwise we wouldn't have had the big hoohar with the s**. If banter is about alienating people and making them feel crap then please forgive me. One man's banter is another's insult. Maybe we should concentrate on the poor football England play or his stone age tactics failing to get the best out of our youngsters. Although this has always been an England problem.

Agree6 Disagree2

People who think name calling is a joke are usually the ones who don't suffer the indignity of having a any imperfections, well as long as it's not aimed at them! shame on you, it's a form of bullying and not funny, i think it's time grow up no matter who you are don't you?

Agree2 Disagree1

I agree Jack. Not every person is the same. Therefore you can't teat everyone the same way. Ems might find it a bit of a laugh but others wont. that's life.

Agree3 Disagree1

17 Oct 2014 18:02:09
There a lot of things I find funny about ems, his posts are normally 1.

17 Oct 2014 18:09:23
Well said Angrychef.

Regardless of age, stature etc it's still a form of bullying.

Personally, I've never found it funny.

Agree2 Disagree0

Well each to there own. Nicknames are a part of society in my opinion though and they usually play on something about you. My best mates were called Fatbob (Robert, overweight) and Wiggles (because he ran like he had spaghetti arms). I think people are just too sensitive nowadays and need a dose of 'man up' but I am willing to accept that others disagree and if it makes you all feel better I won't use the name 'Woy' on here again.

People take things to heart too much nowadays though.

Agree1 Disagree1

The funniest thing about it all, in my opinion, is that Roy Hodgson apparently said Wayne Rooney's scouse accent was possibly a reason he wouldn't come across too well in interviews.

Glass house, stones, you do the rest!

Agree1 Disagree0

Guys, this really isn't for a footy banter page.
The "one persons banter is another persons insult" is very true.
Who determines the difference between the 2?
Lets leave the PC to the day jobs and enjoy the banter page.

Agree1 Disagree0

Mocking his speech is a bit ignorant when you consider the man is fluent in 7 languages. How many of those mocking can match that?

is pointing out that he looks like an owl acceptable?

{Ed001's Note - obviously not, this is the pc-era and nothing is acceptable.}

Everybody

but the owl is the most wise of all the winged creatures

That is so twue, twit twue

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing is acceptable to these lot Ed001. Oh, except calling Fergie purple nose, Gary Neville ratface, Suarez a donkey, Rooney shrek, Bale a monkey, Jan Molby fat, Rafa a fat Spanish waiter.

Just ignore it Ed. It is literally every social networking site you get a group of hipocrites who jump on the PC bandwagon every so often and try and make themselves look like model human beings so for a split second they can feel better than us normal folk. I'm sure none of these posters are hipocritical enough to have ever used the phrase purple nose though. Loved your comment Digger Barnes lol.

When is emre back ?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I understand that he has been doing a little training this week - so soon.}

16 Oct 2014 23:17:59
Question for Ed001, a bit of a random question, but I remember reading something a while back about Carragher saying that Rafa thought that Luis Figo was going to sign for us in 2005, only for it to fall through. I was just wondering if you (or anyone else reading) knows of any deals that weren't well documented but fell through.

Told you it was random! Haha

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure what is well documented, there have been so many deals that have fallen through over the years. I have just woken up and so my mind isn't awake yet, I honestly can't think of anyone. Hopefully someone will post something that will job my memory.}

C. Ronaldo? didn't we follow him and were ready to make a deal, before we decided that he was unexpeirenced and to expensive?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I would consider it well documented that we had a deal with his club set up for £3.6m, only for Rick Parry, in his infinite wisdom, to decide that was far too much to pay for him.}

Correct on C Ronaldo, I remember that. I also remember we did not peruse a deal for Van Persie and we also went in for Robben but can't recall if Chelsea stole in on that.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Oct 2014 09:39:27
Weren't we poised to sign both David Villa and David Silva at one point, only for H&G to pull the plug?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Rafa did have deals set up for them with their club, and yes it was blocked by H&G, due to the funds not being there for them.}

17 Oct 2014 10:09:34
A few others, although perhaps ED001 could comment as to whether he remembers them or not as they don't come from the most reliable of sources!

Simao in 2005 - flew to the UK for a medical but £10m deal didn't go through

Anelka - although this was high profile!

Mario Gomez - apparently it was a toss up between Gomez and Carroll, and we chose the boozing Geordie rather than the German who scored 28 goals that season.

Gotze - when we signed Henderson we had to choose between him and Gotze. Comolli and Dalglish wanted Hendo and he's certainly repaying his fee now, but could this Mario have had a more immediate impact?

Alves - in 2006 we were offered him for £10m but the board thought that too much to pay. He was sold a couple of seasons later to Barcelona for £30m!

Vidic - he said he spoke to us first in 2006 but the meetings just stopped, so he continued to talk to Man Utd and the rest is history.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Houllier didn't want Anelka, though he was very keen to join. Gomez turned us down, as did Toivonen and a few others, Llorente for instance. Not true on Gotze. Vidic and Alves are correct though. Oh and Simao is correct, though I am unsure on the date.}

17 Oct 2014 10:11:21
As an aside, does anyone know of any Doh! *slaps forehead* moments from other teams too where they have turned down future superstars?

Is it just an urban myth that Stoke had a deal in principal in place to sign Messi before he moved to Barcelona, only for an unfortunate incident in a motorway service station to put his parents off from a move to the potters?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Begovic nearly joined Spurs, only to turn up at their training ground and find Stipe Pletikosa there in talks too. There are hundreds if you go back far enough, like Sheffield United deciding not to buy Maradona and instead signing Alejandro Sabella. Though I am sure the club have never regretted that decision in anyway, shape or form!!!}

17 Oct 2014 10:27:03
Roy Evans said he wanted to sign sheringham but the board didn't back maybe it was near a time they knew they were going to bring Houllier in and treat a legend of the the club very badly.Also remember us being heavily linked with rui Costa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alves, Ronaldo, Villa. Bloody hell. Rafas team would've been:
Reina
Alves, Carragher, Agger, Arbeloa
Alonso, Mascherano
Ronaldo, Gerrard, Villa
Torres
I think we'd have won everything. Literally our only problem under Rafa was burying lesser opposition. I think with Ronaldo and Villa we probably wouldn't have struggled!

Agree3 Disagree1

Ed001, Weren't aguero and Robben keen on joining us as well on sperate occasions? But our offer for them were very late in the window?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not aware of Aguero ever been even close to joining us, that I can remember anyway. As for Robben, there was some interest, but I don't think it was ever close.}

17 Oct 2014 13:20:24
I may be wrong but around the time the Villa and Silva deals fell through, didn't a deal for a young fella named Jovetic fall through? He may be plagued by injury a little but he is very good when fit

Agree0 Disagree0

Shevchenko was part of the youth team at west ham but harry let him go because he thought he wasn't good enough

Agree0 Disagree0

Roy Evans was in for a 3 million pound move for Zidane, but the board wouldn't back him.
Souness turned down Cantona when offered him by Platini.
Micheal Laudrup agreed a three year deal with Liverpool in 1983, then Liverpool tried to change the contract to 4 yrs because of his age, so Laudrup walked away because Liverpool went back on their word.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Oct 2014 20:01:13
I'll obviously defer to your wisdom if you disagree Ed001, but I remember hearing the issue with Fake Ronaldo was his wages rather than the transfer fee. He wanted as much as some of the first teamers which might have caused all of Houllier's new Zidanes to make similar demands.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that's not true mate, Parry 100% pulled the deal over the transfer fee. Ged tells the story very well....}
