Hi Eds ,

I just wanted to say a big 'WE TOLD YOU SO ' to Ian Ayre and who ever else is responsible for the striker fiasco at the moment .

Borini out until next year ( at least) and with only Suarez available we are down to the bare bones.

The up side is that hopefully now Yesil ,Amoo & Morgan may get the chance to prove themselves worthy for a regular place.

I have accepted that this season progress is the big target.I have to say all those deluded people comparing BR to Rafa and King Kenny should take in to account the fact that BR does not have a trophy winning legacy behind him so comparisons are futile.

I live in Scotland and have heard that Hooper is wanting out in Jan and would favour a move to a club where he has a good chance of playing as opposed to Europe etc.

We could use him and he does have potential if he can improve his fitness and work rate , that being said I would settle for a finisher and he is that.

kobi {Ed001's Note - Amoo? Do you mean Ngoo?}

Underwhelmed by Ngoo

Eds.is shelvey available for reading game and do u expect yesil to feature atleast on bench {Ed001's Note - yes and yes.}

Ed's, I know it was discussed a couple years ago but do you ever plan on creating the option for people to sign in with user names? Would be a nice change from the horrid anonymous on the site, Thanks!

JK_LFC {Ed001's Note - yes, when time allows.}

Decent, Thanks again!

Just a question that came to me whilst watching dreary England.... Who is the best English player around at the moment ? No one springs to mind for me. I thought that they were all pretty poor and thank my lucky stars that Roy isn't destroying our talented youngsters with that sort of play . Ne'er a truer word was said than by Barnsey the other day saying we need a philosophy to go with the new flashy training centre....YNWA tobiwan

Probably Joe Hart, but it's not exactly a star star studded array of talent. England are so far behind the top footballing nations, but perhaps Wilshire, Sterling, Shelvey and the Ox give the future some promise.

Papa G

I think the problem with our style of football has much to do with the players and how they are brought up to play. Maybe it's in our genes I don't know, but let me explain. My eldest was in an U-16 football team a few years ago and out of the 18 or so players, there was one who was Portuguese. It was apparent from the moment I saw him play for the first time, he had a different technique compared to the rest and yet they all had the same coach. I wonder if we just have to accept that you can't make a pure English player play like a pure Spanish/South American player, well not easily anyway. Whether a Spanish coach could get a bunch of English players playing like he would want is another question, but I don't think Roy is the answer right now anyway.

Ed, is there any truth in the rumour that BRs record as a coach reflects an average of 1.7goals conceded per game. and that no team has won anything with such a leaky ship.

Have just checked last season, and goal conceded per game was 1.05, with Citeh under 1.0

I know which won title, because they had strikers who hit the net, but does show there was nothing major wrong with the defence last season. So why screw it up?

if these stats continue it seems to be a recipe for mid table goals against. Jmac

17 Oct 2012 21:47:22
Rodgers is good but I think Liverpool job is too big for him. Expectation are very,very high and resources are small at the same time results are not going our way which makes more difficult for him. Time will tell

Not sure what you are trying to say mate , we have had a sound defence for a number of years and yet we have moved further away from the prem title.

Our issue has beeen a lack of quality , creativity and...goals.

The defense has been poor this season but you need to look past the stats and watch the games mate.

If we won every match 3-2, we'd win the title, fact! Tbh, I don't care (too much) for clean sheets, as long as we are banging more in at the other end it shouldn't matter, except for the keeper that is! That has been our problem for a while now.

Keith

18 Oct 2012 01:07:42
Mate results are more important then statistics. Big worry is Rodgers can't grind scores if we continue to lose points every game then will be in big big trouble. Just hope we start to get results before owners or players or fans at anfield start to doubt Rodgers ability to manage Liverpool

Football question based on some stats from Book called Science and Soccer, By Tom Reilly (pg 249). It states¦

* A study of 3213 games showed that 80% of goals resulted in 3 passes or less.
* Also another study at all levels of international football found that 94% of goals were scored 4 or less passes.

These stats mean the moment a team have more than 4 passes their chances of scoring has reduced to only 6%.
Would an average of 3-4 passes to score be the golden ratio s you would have an 80%-96% chance of scoring¦

How do these stats fit in with possession football? I'm asking for people with proper footballing brains, I don't know the answer.

One answer would be that so many goals come from corner kicks and free kicks. The real stat for possession based football would be what % of goals come from 3 or more passes of the total goals scored from open play?

The other question to look at would be how many of the free kick or corner kick goals were created from plays of 3 passes or more.

The stat alone would not be an indictment of the possession philosophy in my opinion.

Lee
YNWA

The most important stats will always be how many youve scored and how many youve let in. how you acheive it is irrerelevent

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

A lot of goals are scored from set pieces, corners, free kicks- usually less than 4 passes.
Your idea that once you take more than 4 passes your chance I scoring drops to 4% is muddled maths and not accurate. It's just less goals are scored that way proportionately because a) set pieces and b) it's more difficult and lower league teams ( of which there are many more) won't score that way.

Football isn't about stats. Football is a simple game made complicated by persons.

17 Oct 2012 20:01:58
Also you woulda got a lot more goals if Suarez stopped cheating

Never trust statistics unless you've fiddled them yourself

The stone roses no number 1 single the who no number 1 single jimi Hendrix just 1 number single boyzone 6 number 1 singles some statistics that have no bearing on artistry
Paisley's genius

I don't think Barcelona score all there goals with just 4 passes between the team

I'm guessing that Suarez comment was made by a dirty manc. However, unfortunately there may be a little truth to it, if he could stop flailing his arms about and rolling around when he gets fouled we would get a few more goals, penalties mainly.

18 Oct 2012 00:13:30
This will tell you all you need to no. Free kicks and corners are not good for goals. the bit about 3 or 4 passes is old tactic from 1950s, by theorist Charles Reep in England, and is basically long ball football.

Eds, with the announcement coming from Liverpool that they are officially looking to stay at Anfield and refurbish, does it mean we're going to be less active in the transfer market in order to keep funds available for the stadium expansion or will we still see money being spent in the transfer market? And by money I don't mean 200million a season, I mean 30-50m per season. Cheers. {Ed002's Note - I would not expect that the stadium will have any significant impact on what happens in the transfer market but would not want to suggest a figure that would be regularly spent.}

England are like watching Stoke. I think we should count our blessings having Rodgers in charge with his possession football. A joy to watch compared to this s***e. RL.

-At least England didn't start wrestling and assaulting the opposition however it still was horrible to watch! I actually think stoke are too violent for the rugby league at least they can put 3 passes together.

I posted this earlier, but it seems it didn't make it, so here it is again:

Alright Eds, if you don't mind, I'd like to get your opinions on the story.

The Independent is now reporting the Jen Chang is set to meet with Ian Ayre in the coming week. It's also confirmed, with photo evidence, that Chang and Jenkins met in Manchester.

Andy Heaton, of The Anfield Wrap, recently came out stating he met with Jenkins and thought his story was genuine.

Ultimately it's one man's word versus another's, but it seems there's more credibility to Jenkins' story than most(myself included) gave it at first glance. {Ed002's Note - I don't have any particular opinion - it is nothing more than a blog which somehow led to the club being pissed with the author of it. Whether or not "threats " were made or "misunderstandings" occurred is of little interest to me as it will be very difficult to ever get to the "truth" or even the intent of what happened. I have come across much worse over the years. May be something for the conspiracy pages.}

17 Oct 2012 18:01:47
Hello Eds,
I`ll say that again - even though I live in Poland, I ask you : don`t waste money on Lewandowski. I like him, but he`s not good enough to play for Liverpool. {Ed052's Note - Dont worry, Liverpool wont be moving for him}

More like, We couldn't even get him. ha

Anybody else notice the slogan on the advertising board at the England game? The car one?

"with a roof that can close in 19 seconds"

Haha dunno if it's intentional or not but made me laugh.

Watching England is so dull these days.

Lucky I'm scouse and I get to watch tiki taka every week now. :)

Nice one MIKEY! People complaining about Rodgers style of football,who would really want to watch that hoof it from deep to a big static forward the football equivalent of root canal work!
Paisley's genius

Carrick,cole,rooney were bad but james milner was absolutly rubbish and has been for ages.

Milner's not a winger for me. Not too sure what he is really but its not a wide man lol, strange decision especially when you have got the Ox on the bench.

Hi eds hope you all happy today

I was just thinking should liverpool employ a just retired ref to advise on how to behave what to expect in certain situations and oversee training methods to avoid stupid sendings off. ps that ref that cheered years ago when we scored will do.Tommy Irish Red {Ed002's Note - In the big scheme of things I am happy today. The Refs Association keep the clubs abreast of rule changes and expectations. In case anyone is wondering, "abreast" is not a dirty word.}

Irts like going to the chipper ansd saying can I have a bag of chips and abreast of chicken

That is what Brendan Rodgers is paid for mate.
We should employ that skydiver to coach Suarez to dive properly.

Instead of speculating how good the squad "will" be in future, put the crystal balls away and support their hard work now. Ain't no value in leaving your voices at home until the superteam falls out of the sky and in to our lap.

17 Oct 2012 14:21:02
Eds I'd like to know who you want to see bought in January? Thanks {Ed002's Note - I think it is necessary for Liverpool to bring in a forward. However, Rodgers must not buy for the sake of it and if a player who Liverpool wants is not available then the club should consider looking to take someone on loan through to the summer rather than make an impulse buy.}

Ed002 is spot on there. Let's not moan if nobody is bought. We need to buy the right player not the right now player.

MIKEY

We've seen countless reports suggesting Sturridge joining, most recently on loan. As a Chelsea fan Ed002, do you think it is likely we will attempt to get him in January? I know there were attempts of some sort in the summer but do you have any inside info to suggest if he is potentially looking to move on and if so would he consider Liverpool? {Ed002's Note - In the summer all that happened was his agent was asked to enquire if he would be available on loan - the answer was no. However, should the player wish to leave and should an acceptable bid be made, Chelsea would not stand in his way.}

17 Oct 2012 16:05:20
Ed002, just a few questions. In a nutshell, a) how is the £150m for Anfield's redevelopment likely to be sourced? b) How much of the cost do you expect a naming rights deal to cover?
c) how long would such a deal be in place for?
d) Could the owners also pump in a portion from their own pockets?
e) when is the work likely to start and be completed? I understand that capacity will be reduced during the works, so what measures do you see the club taking to off-set the resultant losses?

Also, would it be fair to assume that this will significantly eat at the transfer budget, perhaps by as much as 60%/70%? Considering that we are running at a loss (£50m, is it?) and don't have the benefit of CL revenues, I would expect it to.
Cheers, bud!

Ray Burmeister {Ed002's Note - (a) I would think some will come from a loan secured against sponsorship and the balance secured on a loan against future earnings. (b) I am not absolutely certain there will be a naming rights deal (although I do expect it), but much would depend when it kicks in and what else is it linked to - would it be a deal replacing Standard Chartered for example? (c) It may be structured over 10 years or less if it covers shirt sponsorship as well. (d) I would think it unlikely. (e) It is a little speculative on my part, but I reckon it will be completed and open for the start of the 2015/2016 season. I don't see the transfer budget being impacted by the refurb.}

The major funding would presumably be in the form of a commercial loan secured on the property supported by a business plan which shows the increase in revenue which would be generated by an additional 15,000 on the gate. At a conservative average of £30 per additional seat per Premier League game this would around an additional £8.5m pa which would put it into the realms of a normal building capital investment project with a 25 year term.

This is completely different from loans incurred on revenue items such as the purchase and salaries of players.

The losses from reduced gate takings whilst the improvement takes place would be factored in as part of the overall costs.

This is why redevelopment is a more commercial proposition than new build because an increase of 15,000 capacity would not support the likely costs of £300m+.

I cannot see why we would expect owners to dig into their own pockets. The club has to become self sufficient as this is the only the way to a sustainable future. Why should we expect other people to use their money to provide us fans with the success we crave. How would we feel if the owners asked the fans half way through the season to pay a second season ticket payment to fund the replacement of failed purchases? That's what we are in effect expecting the owners to do.

17 Oct 2012 15:25:26
Just wondering, I was interested in your opinions on who is actually a better player, Johnson or Arbeloa(when he played for us)

Also hope to see Shelvey get a run out tonight!

HullRed

Arbeloa. Easy
Johnson is a crap defender.

MIKEY

Arbeloa by a country mile, there are so many things wrong with Johnson as a full back for me to even start!

Arbeloa was and is still a much better RB than johnson, though there is no doubting that johnson is quality at LB.
Indian Buzzer

Harsh on Johnson that. He's been showing signs of improvement over last 8 months so be fair.

I thought Arbeloa was a steal for the fee we paid, and was a coup by Rafa that he doesn't seem to get praise for.

Jonesred

And arbeloa was bought by, so.... This is wat we misssssssing

Johnson has a bigger game but is prone, much less frequently these days, to mistakes. I personally think he is best right back in league btw. Arbeloa maximised every aspect of his game and maybe made one mistake a season. We are lucky to have had both, Johnson is class though and I love him under BR

Best right back in the league?

He's not even the best right back at Liverpool.

MIKEY

He is far better than Kelly, who whilst can be impressive is destined to be a centre half. Name someone better than Johnson? Rafael's fairly shocking at defending, Walker is sloppy and lazy. Sagna is still injured and Ivanovic hasn't got the finess of Johnson, but is a top centre half. The closest in ability is Zabaleta, whose possibly a greater all rounder much like Arbeloa was.

Papa G

Steve finnan it took rafa 5 or 6 attempts to replace him or should i say steve pele finnan

The best RB at LFC

Gerrard when he played there

17 Oct 2012 14:57:05
Ed002, as a Chelsea fan Id like to get your opinion on the current situation at Liverpool, ( an outsiders point of view if you will) do you think were heading in the right direction or have we fallen further behind the chase for champions league. Do you think be is the right man for the job? Do you fear Chelsea playing lfc or see it as an easy win? thanks {Ed002's Note - (a) The club is heading in the right direction but not getting the results. Whether this is down to the style of football being played or bad karma I don't know. (b) Rodgers is a nice guy but I had a fear that the Liverpool job may have come a couple of years too soon for him - so the jury is still out to a certain extent. (c) Everyone will continue to "fear" games against the likes of Liverpool as Liverpool are a good side and capable of taking points from anyone.}

Tbh mate with liverpool recent records playing Chelsea, I don't think anyone would be affraid. We've beaten you 5 out of 6 times. I don't doubt we can do it again.

17 Oct 2012 20:29:09
None of those 5 wins against Chelsea were with BRs system. Hardly think anyone at chelski is quaking at the thought of it. Jmac

17 Oct 2012 14:44:10
How can you compare the likes of Henderson, Allen, Downing, Enrique, Johnson with players of the past - absolutely no comparison at all. The above mentioned players are average at best.

17 Oct 2012 15:31:43
Bar Ivanovic, I can't name a better RB in the league

Henderson & Allen are both only 22 and have come with big price tags that is not there fault but they will both be big players for us.

BigD

Why put Allen in with those players, he's only been here 7 games and has been excellent while the others have had over a season, players like downing who I don't rate highly but will support him for as long as he's a liverpool player but don't hate them just because they are not xabi alonso, mascherano, riise or torres, I also feel that is why rogers is been targeted by some fans cos he isn't rafa, FACT of the matter is that if rafa was so successful then he would still be managing us, give all the lads and rogers a chance and who knows they may surprise a lot of people, I for one am excited with how it's going, ok we are 14th but I think everyone knows we won't finish there, we are easily top 6 material ynwa boomer81

Yep i guess England's first choice right back who's played for both Chelsea and liverpool is pretty damn average...can't complain bout the rest though.

Welsh player of the year...winning the award ahead of the likes of bale and Williams and England's first choice right back? Honestly how can you call Allen and Johnson average, I'm sure you'd much rather have dossena and Aquilani

17 Oct 2012 13:33:30
Can we all spare a thought for LFC, they are in such a mess and in all fairness are a club heavily in a transition period and are unlikely to be in contention for silverware for at least 5 years. I have taken the liberty to set-up an emergency charity, absolutely all donations would be appreciated on
stopdolphins.co.uk.

Mick

Two finals last season or do you have a short memory?
Lee73

17 Oct 2012 14:29:59
Lee mate haven't finish in top 5 for 3/4 years neither will this year at the same time our rivals are getting strong every year where we are getting weak if you compare. At the same time they buy class players who have impact immediately where we buy pontential to wait 3/4 years for their impact. We have got owners who are happy to finish midtable rather then spend to get champions league. Our rivals have owners who spend to get champions and are not happy with mediocrity. Big example is we still are strugling for striker and have been for 2/3 years where united just solves in one go with RVP that's a big difference.

17 Oct 2012 14:48:00

Why are people posting that the current side has the potential to be as good as the title challenging team. We are miles behind, just look at the last match against Stoke. Just look at our record at home this season. Just look at our wins ratio this calendar year. Just look at the league table - it never lies.

Pretty sure in our title challenging season we drew at home with stoke as well. We have always struggled against them so lets get behind Rodgers and the team instead of dwelling in the past and thinking what might have been.

Jay

The title challenging team did not beat Stoke at home or away that season, bad example

Just look at the age of the squad. Just look at the age of the first 11. Just look at the age of the subs. Just look at how I'm typing just look.

Didnt that title challenging team draw 0-0 with stoke twice that season?

BthekingB

First of all stoke do not play football they try to upset play break it down by being rough and they are not a bad side in a sense they are hard to beat because they do not play football.

Who do we want

Daniel Sturridge - agree

Darren bent - disagree

BigD

We don't need either!

Chaki

Who do we want the least?

Sturidge agree

Bent disagree

Square tomato

Its times likes these were a neither button would be good!

The Irish Rover

Neither thanks.

MIKEY

Should of got sturridge in the torres deal we would of saved £20m instead of the censored carroll. Yes his obnoxious and doesn't understand the word pass, he has movement and goals unlike Carroll whose only movement is when his had a dodgy curry (bowel). redevon

What's the button to chose square tomato?

Bent scores goals, but would get battered on here every week, simply because he does nothing else in a game at all! We need a goal scorer so id have him if we could get him for 10-12m, sell Carroll for 17, gives us a chance to buy another striker too.

17 Oct 2012 12:21:46
Rey has hit the nail on the head. The current side has the potential to be as good as the title challenging team and we are certainly stronger in certain positions that the champions league final in 2005 ie Djimi! However, the team in 2007-2010 a lot of our players were at the top of their game and in the top 5,10,20 in there positions in the world. Torres, Gerrard, Alonso, Masch, Reina, Carra, Arbeloa (very underrated and in my opinion the best RB we've had for 15years) were all top 5 in the world at doing their job at the same time. Look at the week we beat Utd 4-1, Real 4-0 and Villa 5-0 we were unplayable. Even players like Yossi, Crouch, Riera, Babel, Pennant etc despite not being the best in some most cases, we got the best of their careers.
As of now, as I (and a lot of others) have said we have the potential but we need a goalscorer to keep us ticking over, Llorente if he could be persuaded, until a Yesil (again who I think will be Magic) or Morgan are ready.
But certainly the future is bright.
Good post and good debate!

Benji

17 Oct 2012 13:49:42
Nope no where we are taking small steps where our Rivals are taking Giant steps at the same time have got owners who are happy to finish midtable rather then spend to achieve champions league compare to our rivals. Liverpool should forget to compete for league titles or champions league for 10/12 years as money talks any of our younger players who turns star they will be gone as russians or Arabs will buy them same as torres or fabrigass or mascharano

Owners who don't want to spend? Some people do have short memories, look at the amount of money we wasted, money they provided, can you blame them for being more cautious now?
Also we seem to be getting somewhere with the stadium finally which will cost money.
I would have liked the owners to have backed Rodgers more in the summer too but we need to remember we owe FSG a lot.

Jay

I do agree that a lot of our squad has the potential to be a very good and competitive squad, we all know we need a lot of investment but I feel that alot of people are to quick to put down a lot of our players, yes it's not as good as the squad from 07-10, that was a very expensive assembled squad, but cos we haven't hit those height now for 3 seasons doesn't mean we can blame Allen, borini or rogers for everything, i mean he only spent 30m, chelsea spent more on one player, we are behind the likes of chelsea, man u/city, arsenal and possibly spurs and everton but thats been the case since rafas last season, I for one feel we are going to have a great future under fsg and rogers and least we can say we done it the right way

I know that 'stability' is everyone's favourite word at the moment but I think theres no conincidence that the squad of 07-10 was the best for a while coz Rafa had nearly 5 years to put it together.
We had stability then and it clearly paid off. I am a Rafa fan but he was given time, given some finance (some of which he did waste) but also bought some great players.
I think if we give BR time he could have us strongly challenging for top 4 in 2 or 3 years.

Tried posting yesterday from my phone and it was not posted as far as i can find. Slightly annoyed as i have an awful HTC and sending in a rumour via mobile for me is like decoding the pentagons firewall.

Wasn't anything important, just a bit of a joke post tbh, so never mind.

Anyway though, I hope Samid Yesil plays against Reading this weekend. If Reina is out Jones in goal. I'd start Wisdom at right back with Skrtel and Agger in the centre. Enrique or Robinson at left back (because Johnson is playing today now). Allen and Sahin in midfield. Suarez and Sterling out as wide forwards, Shelvey behind Yesil up top. Would like to see Suso, Assaidi and Gerrard as the substitutes.

We need not youthful ambition in the final third, and Yesil looks like he's on fire right now.

If and when (I hope) Downing moves on how much will be get for him. Many people on this site say we will receive 6-8m. I dont think so at all. 3-4m at best. Agree?

Downing is a class act on the pitch off the pitch its a little different

However we should get 6-10 Million

He would be better used in a swap deal to raise his valuation slightly

Jonesred

Downing has been a big big disappointment but i hope he improves drastically bewteen now and Jan so if we sell(which looks likely) then we can get £8 - £10m, i would hope to get closer to £10m for him.

BigD

We could perhaps use Downing in a deal for Bent, but would Villa take him back. I know that we are not looking at Bent it was a hyperthetical situation.
Scouse_Pride

We might get about 5million..!

Chaki

I dont see us getting rid of Downing coz who would want him? He has hardly played for us this season and when he has he's been a passenger. Possibly a loan in January with a view to buy in the summer?

Hi Eds,

Just a quick question, our local press here in ireland have been stating for the last 2 weeks that Liverpool are serious contenders in getting Hopper from Celtic in Jan, to add to the story they state that Wanyama is also getting looked at, any thruth in this story that you know off? {Ed063's Note - Ed002 is convinced we are interested - I have no reason not to trust him}

We should all (eds included) refer to ed002 as female unless (s)he instructs otherwise. Too funny when noobs believe it.

17 Oct 2012 09:03:04
Ed, with regard to any Daniel Sturridge rumours: if (as all evidence suggests), his contract expires in June 2013, who in their right mind is going to give Chelsea 15m for him when they can sign him on a pre-contract in January and wait for the transfer to go ahead on July 1st. Lets face it, he's worth 3.5m-4m tops, and would be worth no more than a 7m investment even if he had 3 years remaining on his contract. He has a lot to prove and from what I've heard he has a big attitude problem. Wish we'd taken Park Chu Young off of Arsenal, his talent was wasted at the Emirates and Celta Vigo are lucky to have him on loan

Eds Is there a chance Liverpool could get Sturridge on loan in Jan with a view to buy next summer? Also does he have 18 months left on contract?

Cheers
Mighty reds {Ed063's Note - No - he has 1 year (a little under now) left on his contract. By the time Jan rolls around he will have 6 months left. Chelsea would have to be idiots to let him go on loan and run his contract down}

£12m will be enough to get him in January. I think he's a quality player, Sturridge in, Stewart Downing (sell for around £6m-£8m) out IMO

Rocky

I agree with Rocky on this, Downing out for £8m - £10m and Sturridge in for £10 - £12m but no more than £12m as he is out of contract in the summer, I also think although selfish he is a quality player remember when he played as the main striker for Bolton he did well scored something like 16 goals i think, with him as the main striker and Sterling & Suarez alongside him he would be marvelous.

BigD

Guys can some one please tell me whats that great about sturridge. we are speaking of 10-12 mil for a guy with 6 months left on his contract, why wont we get lorrente for that price.Like most of the English player he is over rated,max he is 3-4 mil. he he was that good Chelsea would renew his contract.I would be really unhappy if we go for him

Torres made some comments recently about something fishy in his sudden move in Chelsea and that we got the wrong info about it(probably the owners wanted to preserve their relationship with the fans).

Anyone know the real truth behind this?

I'm inclined to believe that the owners pushed him out of the door in order to restructure the team with younger blood and players who didn't have patience should of have moved on. But I also believe that Torres wouldn't have moved on if they just assured him that things will take time but there will be challenge for glories. {Ed002's Note - Torres wanted to leave. Chelsea paid a price acceptable to Liverpool.}

Torres tryin to cover his arse for bein a judas no one twisted his arm the worse thing to come out ofit was k.k bad signings

Why is Torres a Judas? For doing what professional football players do? Like changing clubs for a better paying job and higher honours?

BrisbaneLFC

He changed clubs because liverpool are in free fall

Ed002

Torres said the truth will come out in time and he is not "allowed" to talk about it at the moment. There is no reason to believe he is trying to look good in our eyes because whatever the reason, going to Chelsea removed him from a Liverpool great.

The point of my post is that if anyone of you knows the real truth behind his departure. Your comment doesn't add anything on what we already know and I don't believe it is as black and white as you present it. He also said that winning trophies was not the only thing that made him wanting to leave.

So anyone knows the real story or not?

Also Macca said in the past that there was something much more on Comolli's sacking that what we were told. That something never came out. These answers will help the fans understand what went wrong in the last couple of years under this ownership(honest mistakes) and put as in the same frequency as the owners. Otherwise we blame them for all their mistakes without having the entire picture. {Ed002's Note - In respect of Torres, it had been on the cards since the previous window that he was not 100% happy and an exit was likely. I rathger doubt there is much of a story to tell. As for Comolli, it is caveat emptor and it is not like there were not warnings. I don't recall any hints from Macca, but again doubt that there is much of a story to be told now.}

We should go out of our way to sign this kid luciano vietto for the 8million if they want it as his going to be the best thing to come from Argentina. He reminds me of a young aguero that we interested in before Madrid came so let's not let another Madrid team bet us to the next star of the future

Totally agree m8 but problem is talent from south America usually go to Russia/Portugal or Italy as the are often part owned players which makes it extremely difficult for us to get them, also i think Madrid are after him now.

BigD

BigD you are totally right about the talents landing in Russia or Portugal, What we should do is get them like benifica or napoli or the other team does and loan them to a football playing team like Swansea or even Blackpool and when they start getting settled or adjusted after a season or so get them to play for us or sell them for a higher price. Nothing to loose this way. But I know there are complication in getting young players from outside EU. They other idea is to intensely scout European talents from Spain or Belgium or Germany like many bundesliga team do and in this way you are not concerned about the EU rule

Yesil scores again for German under 19's now 4 goals over 3 games over the weekend
C'mon BR give the lad a chance against Reading otherwise Leverkusen will be taking that option to recall him
Could be the striker we really need looks class to me {Ed063's Note - I will say this one more time only. Yesil MUST agree to go back to Leverkusen, if he refuses they can't do anything about it. Why would he move to Liverpool to then move back to Leverkusen??? He will refuse them, he himself said he is aiming to break into the first team "in a couple of years" he is a patient lad. Leave him be for now}

Hi ed you are saying leave him be for now lad is 18 he knows where the net is,get him in there now and see how he goes this lad could be good enough to keep us in touching distance till jan,we have no 1 else same age as owen was has to be giving a try,these are desperate times as regards goals we have to do all we can to sort this now not wait till jan when we no hope chps lge.ray {Ed063's Note - I'm not saying don't play him - but everyone on here saying he 'must play' and even you saying he will keep us in touching distance with champs league need to calm down a bit. He is a talented lad with an awful lot of potential, but do not bill him to be an absolute superstar straight away otherwise you will most likely be disappointed, then everyone will start bashing him and that does no one any good - especially Yesil. We need to be patient and nurture his talent}

Hi ed i said he "could"keep us in touching distance' could not would'for chps lge ed i hear all your saying about taking it easy but these are desperate times goal wise we need to try everything..ray

He cant be any worse than Borini- he got a chance- now let's give this young lad a chance- you never know till you try him.

Mate lets not talk about borini he has been extremely unlucky so far. I have seen more movements and runs or even half chances created by borini in like 10 games for LFC then I have seen in a year and half by Carroll.

Hi Ed's loving the site as more and more January stories are coming in, anyway to the point, have we ever been interested in Erik Lamela formerly of River Plate, not of AS ROMA. He fits FSG's bill of young, talented players with a sell on value, and can play behind the striker at CF, a winger on either side, or as a attacking midfielder in a 3, so seems to fit the utility style of player Rodgers likes to have. I know he only moved in the summer of 2011 but would he ever become available? {Ed063's Note - I think he would cost an awful lot mate}
