Hello all! I've been following this site for years and it's always been a usual/ reliable source of information. I'd just like to have an update on our possible and most likely purchases this summer.

Please and thank you.

{Ed002's Note - And you can't be bothered to RTFPs? You sound like a glifnard.}

18 Jun 2016 15:55:41
More of a dirante than a glifnard, I would say 002.

18 Jun 2016 16:12:08
A retromingent one at that. where would we be without your lyrical stylings Ed002?

17 Jun 2016 21:40:11
With all the images of Loew doing the rounds, i'm surprised Emre Can hasn't had a sniff in the Germany Team.

Nice 1.

17 Jun 2016 21:23:37
Liverpool are interested in signing right-back Gabriel Mercado, according to River Plate president Rodolfo D’Onofriohas.

Know it's Twitter but anything guys? Never heard of him.

Believable0 Unbelievable6

17 Jun 2016 23:49:40
A 29 year old who most likely wouldn't be eligible for a permit. Don't think he is a very realistic option.

17 Jun 2016 20:49:42
Who is Gabriel mercado. River plates president says "klopp likes him" but " it hinges on Argentina winning the cops or not to get a work permit". Do you know anything of him?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - She is a nice girl.}

17 Jun 2016 21:31:48
Seriously though so you know anything about him he's 29 so seems a strange option also a right back.

17 Jun 2016 18:01:38
With all these talks going on over a potential takeover, one name that was thrown about in 2010 was Kenny Huang, was he ever close to securing the club? Is he an interested party at this time? Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - God I hope so.}

17 Jun 2016 22:45:26
😄 be nice ed002.

17 Jun 2016 23:11:34
It's been covered several times. Try searching.

17 Jun 2016 23:35:19
You make me feel a fool, ed 002!

17 Jun 2016 20:46:08
Eds quick question for you/ ye as the case maybe.

Watching the Spain turkey match now and seeing all the barca/ real Madrid players playing for Spain and seemingly putting on a united front.

My question/ observation is how do rival players such as Ramos and iniesta or Gerard and Gary Neville unite for international games?

I know Gerard alluded to this in his autobiography but just wondering how players put their personal dislike of rival players aside and team up for international s.

Regards.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - they very rarely have that big of a personal dislike for each other.}

17 Jun 2016 20:57:02
Was it the Ukrainian left back and left mid the commentators said strongly dislike each other?

17 Jun 2016 22:22:56
Sheringham and Cole disliked each other a lot and got on the football pitch fine.

18 Jun 2016 07:43:22
It's about professionalism I guess - they're paid a lot of money to kick a ball about and they should be able to do so even if they do not like everybody they work with. We've all, no doubt, worked with somebody we don't like before right? You grit your teeth and get on with it - on the salary of a footballer I would imagine it pretty easier to do this.

18 Jun 2016 08:56:08
Ballotelli doesn't get on with football and throws a strop any time the pair are near so there's the other side of things as well!

18 Jun 2016 18:46:00
Freddie Ljungberg and Zlatan Ibrahimovic absolutely hate eachother. Zlatan calls Ljungberg "The Primadonna" in his autobiography. It really showed on the pitch at tha later stages of Ljungbergs international career in my opinion.

18 Jun 2016 21:11:02
Happens in club football too. Tommy Smith hated Emlyn Hughes, but he was professional enough to put it aside on the pitch.

17 Jun 2016 20:24:33
Evening Eds/ Reds

Wondered opinions on a couple of things
One being matip I've not seen him live I've seen videos of him looks good but that's youtube. Is he ready? Will he start?
Also with some peoples want for a winger maybe continue to use Origi on the wing and not spend crazy money we have Sturridge, Firmino, Ings, Lallana and don't forget coutinho we really are stacke up front.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

17 Jun 2016 20:59:08
I wouldn't mind a front three of sturridge right origi and coutinho left, firmino just behind. Very attacking I know, a lot of discipline needed from the two in midfield. But games where we are expected to have a lot of the ball, but struggle to break them down, which is a lot for us, I think it'll work.

18 Jun 2016 00:14:31
Apparently he is being 3.5m sign in fee (matip) and 100k per week so he better ready.

17 Jun 2016 22:05:23
Sturbridge wants to play centrally. He is poor on the flanks.

17 Jun 2016 20:09:25
Linked with lewandowski now, save the money and just go after messi. On a serious note though, Jonas hector?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

17 Jun 2016 20:13:26
Hector is out of our reach.

18 Jun 2016 00:00:38
Ehh studge and suarez clearly didn't like each other but got on with the job anyway.

17 Jun 2016 18:37:56
Just a quick shoutout to ed001, you're a legend mate love your work.
Please tell me that you're going to be making your podcasts with Benny Baller for the upcoming season!
Used to cure the boredom of my one hour drive to work each week.
Have a great weekend Eds and reds.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, we have been saying we will do another one soon for ages. It is just really difficult finding the time during the window. Plus Benji is out in France earning extra money providing massages with happy endings to desperate fans......}

17 Jun 2016 20:24:36
I heard he's been held captive by a few Irish fan's.

17 Jun 2016 16:45:47
I know there is sales to come and purchases still but who are you looking forward to most next season Ed001-Ed002?
For me it's Danny Ings. Think he's going to push on and have a ledge season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I tend not to look forward to young men Gazza.}

17 Jun 2016 18:28:59
😂😂😂.

17 Jun 2016 17:46:35
Hanging head in shame. Ha.

17 Jun 2016 17:50:45
Corr blimey Ed002 you don't know what you're missing it really gives you a rush I really do urge you to give it a go who knows you might like gazing upon a young man or three ann frankly it's a pleasurable experience.

{Ed002's Note - Anne Frank was a cool chick but never to my taste.}

17 Jun 2016 19:07:11
You don't know what you're missing out on then, Ed002 ;)

17 Jun 2016 20:01:45
You look back to them then ed? 😳.

17 Jun 2016 16:52:05
I'm also looking forward to see what Danny ings has to offer. And hopefully Karius has a good season.

17 Jun 2016 15:55:38
Hey ed001 was wondering if you could give your opinion on John Arne Riise as a player. Both on and off the field. I am from Norway and Riise is considered as a huge profile, but also had his flaws, especially considering him always being in the news for doing all these silly things. His mother was his agent and made sure her sons (both football players) always had their faces in the spotlight. All she cared for, seemingly, was publicity. Not sure how beneficial that was for him to be honest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Search engine please.}

17 Jun 2016 18:06:21
He gave away his European medal didn't he? Hear he is a golf fan too.

17 Jun 2016 20:29:56
Funny you should mention that Max cause I believe so to was Craig Bellamy.

17 Jun 2016 15:55:12
Happy Birthday to our captain Jordan Henderson! 🎉🎉.

17 Jun 2016 20:48:36
Happy Birthday Jordan. 🍾🎂.

17 Jun 2016 00:41:15
This one might seem weird but clubs employ scouts all over the world, spending a lot of money doing so on all sides of the game.

Would a club ever just monitor other clubs who have a proven track record of finding good players and just try and outbid them. Sounds ridiculous and don't say Tottenham with us other posters or ed2 will go mad haha

Just Southampton, Leicester, Dortmund etc are all getting very good players in, yet were spending ridiculous amounts giving them funding to buy what look like better players.

The top teams just have the money to let someone unearth kante and buy him the year after for 30 mil but we don't.

Leicester are after this lad mendy to replace kante, should we not just buy him and trust that they have done there due diligence. He looks good on paper playing some 4o odd games last year and they see fit to replace kante with jim.

Jota st Madrid. Kostic at Southampton, medina at Dortmund there mane replacement and they got weigl for 2 mil last year watch this lad take same path.

Oh and another one is what about double agents. Like offer the leicester scout 50 grand a player he tells us about that leister want.

I'm lacking sleep and bored but just thought it might be an innovative change for football lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable12

17 Jun 2016 15:37:17
U forget all the bad signings these clubs make.
Any transfer is a risk regardless of who it is. Remember Inler? Me neither because he didn't play hardly at all and was loaned out, Leicester also signed a winger for big money that never played.

Southampton signed the jonny Depp lookalike for a large sum.

It's just the big clubs get bad signings highlighted more.

17 Jun 2016 17:33:28
Transfers are not exact sciences. Every one ia a risk whether big or small. Clubs with less money invest more in scouting while those with money just buy, buy, buy. We do neither. We don`t invest in scouting and we buy, buy, buy, mostly average players on the back of one or half a season`s performances (Carroll, Adam, Downing, Bogdan, the list is pathetically endless) . Now, we are trying to do the same thing with Mane, a man who went 18 games in the first half of last season w/ o a single goal and scored 11 in the last 15 games of the season for 30m. This is why we are where we are. LC found Kante after extensive scouting of him at his former clubs, his attitude, durability and of course, his quality for over 2-3 years. I watched a French documentary on his rise to stardom and it will blow your mind. Do you think the Bayern`s, City`s and Chelsea`s of the world would waste their time doing the leg work that LC did to get Kante? This is where we need to improve.

17 Jun 2016 13:32:16
Ed001 seeing as you're about. Could you explain in plain talk what exactly happened with the Loic Remy deal please.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - deal was agreed, he past his medical, then Rodgers changed his mind about wanting him.}

17 Jun 2016 13:38:38
Did BR ever give a reason mate?

{Ed002's Note - No Barry.}

17 Jun 2016 14:02:46
Cheers Ed's thank you.

17 Jun 2016 16:38:04
Logic Remy or Balotelli and Rodgers changed his mind on a agreed deal.

17 Jun 2016 17:54:43
Another example of BR`s ditherings. Yet he told the medial that he never wanted Balo and that it was never his choice. Now, he just came clean in the media saying he actually signed Balo because he thought he could change him and make him better. The man`s lack of honesty and inability to tell the truth are stunnining.

17 Jun 2016 17:27:45
Dudnt remy go to the amerucan tour only to be told br had changed his mind?

17 Jun 2016 12:00:57
PLease ed 001 Was still a bit young back then but can you tell me the overall reaction when we signed Michael Thomas and your opinion on him as a player while with us, and if you have time on mark walters as well as I loved walters as a player back then
Thank you sir.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I can only vaguely remember it as mixed, due to him scoring that goal against us in the last seconds. He was a good player, never stopped running, but lacked real quality on the ball. Great attitude and nice guy, but it was difficult to look past him taking the title on the final day!

Mark Walters? Great skill but no idea how or when to use it, so would often just offer nothing to the game. When he did manage to turn it on, he was unplayable, but it only happened once every 5 or 6 years that he did.}

17 Jun 2016 13:08:53
Cheers ed much appreciated.

17 Jun 2016 13:14:04
Kind of forgave him when he scored that belter in the cup final v Sunderland.

17 Jun 2016 11:19:25
Any update on Jonas hector? After watching him play for Germany I've come to the decision he's a must have, he's calm on the ball, his positioning is brilliant, he's no slouch, oh and moreno is poor. I think I'm having him on the back of my brand new sexy black kit.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No - Cologne has made it clear that they have not been approached for the player by Liverpool and that they value very highly indeed. If Liverpool wish to make an offer which would be well over the odds then Cologne might listen.}

17 Jun 2016 13:37:11
We move on.

17 Jun 2016 11:15:05
Would leaving the EU have any implications on Liverpool? Would work permits be harder to get?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is not actually clear what would happen. There would certainly not be any overnight change but the eventual position would likely be a need for work permits and residence permits. In terms of existing EU citizens already working in the UK, there is no plan but I would think an amnesty would be the likely decision followed by a quota system of some type. A good question but no firm answer I am afraid.}

17 Jun 2016 11:57:33
Is it fair to say they would if they became a requirement for all non-british players, to have played 30% of the internationals for their country over the last two years?
Don't really understand the legislations with regards to permits.
Question please Ed. I know in the 90's there was a limit on "foreign" players, did they have issues with work permits on them days or was it literally you could only register a number of foreign players?

{Ed002's Note - The Work Permit rules are rather more complex than that. The limits on players within various countries is to do with non-EU nationals. Different countries have different rules.}

17 Jun 2016 13:37:35
As a consequence of leaving, Liverpool Football Club would cease to exist and the price of French Cheese would rocket through the roof as a consequence of strict trade tariffs.

Oh yeah, the Eurovision song contest (which includes our European neighbours - Israel) would fizzle away at the tick of a ballot vote; so for all the above I urge you all to vote remain.

17 Jun 2016 11:01:28
Hi eds hope your enjoying your Friday
Just a quick question. Who would you like us to sign for the new season and realistically be able to get over the line. Thanks in advance if you reply cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I will not waiver from my original list that I suggested way back Masso. The players I previously suggested as my picks of who I would have looked to bring in to Liverpool were: Begovic (G), Gaya (LB), Sule (CB), Diawara (DM), Riechedly Bazoer (M), Ousmane Dembele (W).

All were available but that, of course, is no longer the case and none will be joining up this summer.}

17 Jun 2016 11:23:17
Cheers pal I wanted begovic aswel. Just hope this karios does the bizz let's face it he got to be better than migs. That Goetze ain't impressing me at all if I'm honest. Firmino looks a much better player in my opinion. Hector looks solid enough tho?

17 Jun 2016 12:33:04
Ed02 in your list of recommended players - can I ask which diawara for dm? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Amadou Diawara}

17 Jun 2016 13:17:43
Cheers ed02.

18 Jun 2016 08:17:56
Ed I also remember you, in the distant past, recommending Morgan Sanson as a possible addition who would do well at Liverpool - would you still say he would be a good acquisition or has he not developed as expected?

{Ed002's Note - He was injured much of last season.}

17 Jun 2016 10:46:28
Out of curiosity what was your opinion on Torres when he was with us? Did you love him as much as we all did? And how would you compare him with Suarez, ability wise?

Thanks and hope all have a great weekend.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Ed001 is very much tied up so I will give this a shot. There is no doubt Torres was a very good player who clearly did a lot of good for Liverpool - they got the very best out of him and I understand that he very much enjoyed his time at the club. It is always very difficult to compare one player to another but Suarez was and still is a very good footballer. As for the other question, I suspect that Ed001 would be a little shy about listing all of the men he has loved over the years - but I am sure he always has respect for them afterwards.}

17 Jun 2016 11:39:27
Thanks for the reply ed002, much appreciated.

17 Jun 2016 12:54:59
This is my first time reading Ed02's opinions and views on specific players. Short, but a great read.

Been reading about posts about ex players, to be honest, most of em I didn't even know they were once a Liverpool player. I started to follow the team around 2008 I think. Strangely, I followed this team just because back then I hated Manchester United. And I hated them just because that time almost all of my mates and family members love them. I hate them still though. ;)

Have a great weekend guys and eds.

{Ed002's Note - Enjoy.}

17 Jun 2016 17:38:33
Ability wise suarez is a better player, but in terms of enjoyment to watch i just loved torres. His alarming loss of form was distressing for me even when he went to chelsea.

Prior to his antics suarez was one of my favorites but he never endeared himself to me in same way as torres did.

17 Jun 2016 11:01:31
I just could not avoid to notice, that Danny Ings all of a sudden, have become in favor of a move to Glasgow Rangers. Skybet been slashing the odds for a move from 7/ 2 to 8/ 13 today. Are these bets just based on pure speculation, or is there somthing in this "rumour" we just have'nt heard of yet?

Danish regards
M. Smedegaard.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

17 Jun 2016 14:08:45
Oh no a dreaded betting post. As I'm sure many here are aware betting odds are manipulated by both people making bets and by bookies who want people to make more bets - reality does not really matter. It would be surprising, after the tribunal stuff to decdie a fee, if we let Ings leave on loan. Given our business acumen as a club never say never! We did loan out Markovic (a £20mil signing) a season after signing - the same with Balotelli (£16mil) and Aquilani (£17mil) . Hopefully we have learnt our lesson.

17 Jun 2016 10:54:59
Rumours have us linked with Lucas Moura again any truth behind this?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

17 Jun 2016 08:02:38
Ed01, if you don't mind I was wondering if I could get your opinion on Jamie Redknapp as a player as I was discussing with a friend players who could have been better or even top class for us if they didn't have continuous injury problems, e. g Aurelio (loved him), Kewell, cisse even Sturridge and Flanno so far etc.

But JR played in a team, that although I was old enough to support, I wasn't old enough to understand the game tactically, yet I've seen highlights of him spraying passes and scoring some spectacular goals, so I was wondering how you rated him? Do you think he could have gone on to be a top player without the injuries?

Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he was a fantastic passer of the ball but did not work hard enough for my liking, plus he had the ridiculous habit of dropping back onto the toes of the centre backs to take the ball and pass it out from there. If he had just stayed a few yards further forward, then his passes would have had more danger to them, but when you are passing from your own half, most of the time, while the opposition has had time to set up a defensive shape, you are going to lack incision.

It was definitely work rate and desire that was his main problem though. He had all the tools, he could tackle, shoot, cross, pass and hit a dead ball, but he just did not have the drive of a born winner. He was more interested in looking good and would often strut around like we were 5-0 up. When he did turn up and try though, he was fantastic.

A game that stands out for me, as to why Redknapp is so lacking but what could have been, is the second 4-3 against Newcastle. From the start, against a Dalglish-led Toon, he clearly had a point to prove, and he dominated the game as Liverpool strolled to a 3-0 lead. Then he decided the game was won and stopped working, allowing Newcastle to snatch 3 goals in the last 5 minutes. Luckily, in those days, we had God on our side to bail us out with a last ditch goal.}

17 Jun 2016 10:39:12
Cheers for the detailed reply Ed, much appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome mate. He could have been a legend, but he lacked the desire to work hard enough to make it. That probably explains the injuries as well, he was not working at quite the intensity required in training to toughen up his body to cope with actual matches. Similar to this red zone rubbish, if you are not pushed beyond your level, then you are almost certain to get injured when you are forced to do so in a match.}

17 Jun 2016 10:55:46
I was in the kop when Robbie got the winner! Great game,

{Ed001's Note - it was an amazing moment. My aunt and her family had left five minutes early and missed 4 goals!}

17 Jun 2016 11:06:12
I'd say I'm probably a similar age as you smplfc, I use to love redknapp, I remember going to the barbers as a youngster and asking for a hair cut like Jamie redknapp but I can't ever remember redknapp with the bowl haircut treatment.

Morning Eds/ Reds

I was wondering with sturridge at the euros and with the possibility of progressing far how will this impact on the pre season for the player? I mean i remember reading klopp likes a strong pre-season to get the player ready for the season ahead, but are players returning from tournaments given more time to recover and how will this impact on his (and others) pre-season. I wondered if i could get your thoughts thanks!

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Not as much as anyone playing in the Olympics, but it is a summer of tournaments so pre-season for many clubs will be impacted.}

17 Jun 2016 10:15:46
He'll be home soon enough don't worry 😁.

17 Jun 2016 11:09:55
Hey eds quick question along the same lines, there are players right now playing in the euros and the copa America who also intend to play in the Olympics just for e. g zlatan who I have heard wants to play in the Olympics as one over 23's not sure if its true, but for these players will they be expected to come straight back into the team when the Olympics end or will they be given a longer leave period?

{Ed002's Note - Yes there are a number who will play in both. Some players have been left out of Copa America squads in order to play in the Olympics (e.g. Neymar, Oscar, Firmino) but others will play in both. Again, a number of players from the Euros could play in the Olympics as well. There is one very high profile player whose club are arguing with his Nationals side about this as I write.}

17 Jun 2016 01:27:25
Eds i'm reading that lfc could sign mateo kovacic from real madrid for the price they paid inter milan - £24mill- is this correct? ?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - why would the price be in pounds?}

17 Jun 2016 07:27:02
Ed01 no idea mate just what it says. But is there anything in this?

{Ed001's Note - the fact that it is listed in pounds should tell you that it is nonsense.}

17 Jun 2016 07:42:15
That is going to make Harry very happy.

17 Jun 2016 08:14:55
I think the source of that Rumour might just be Harry.

17 Jun 2016 08:34:24
Gazzetta dello sport vua the mirror have it aswell. Presumably not reliable. Thanks ed.

{Ed002's Note - Mateo Kovacic has been offered by Real Madrid as part of a deal for another player and have also discussed him with two other clubs. None of this involves Liverpool.}

17 Jun 2016 09:14:55
Just another daft, untrue rumour.

17 Jun 2016 12:01:41
Ok thanks eds.

17 Jun 2016 11:16:25
May Liverpool could turn to him late in the window if other targets ain't coming in.

17 Jun 2016 18:02:34
He`s not coming here last season, this season or the next. Let it go.
